- 0:03Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Catch twenty two podcasts with Evan
- 0:07Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex Bars, Blazar and Lazarre.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Everybody nailed it, joined us always by our bar Gas.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Here is Evan Lazar and Alex Bars.
- 0:20Speaker 2: I'm getting kind of annoyed with this notion that this
- 0:24Speaker 2: draft doesn't mean as much or as an exciting and
- 0:28Speaker 2: like like this. But this is for other type of people,
- 0:32Speaker 2: for our people are listening for us, For our listeners,
- 0:35Speaker 2: I don't care if they're picking first or thirty first.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Like the draft is, it matters, it matters, there doesn't matter,
- 0:42Speaker 2: and they're gonna pick somebody. This is not you know,
- 0:45Speaker 2: my feeling is about drafts and other sports besides football
- 0:47Speaker 2: and basketball. It's not like a baseball draft or you
- 0:50Speaker 2: draft the guy and you see him four years later,
- 0:52Speaker 2: right like this is. You're gonna get this player at
- 0:55Speaker 2: thirty one, and even though it's not gonna be the
- 0:56Speaker 2: players that you were getting at three and four over
- 0:59Speaker 2: the last two that player is still gonna be good
- 1:01Speaker 2: enough to hopefully contribute to the Patriots. Immediately, I think
- 1:10Speaker 2: I'm going to immediately contradict myself from last week and
- 1:14Speaker 2: open to this show on my thoughts on this Patriots
- 1:17Speaker 2: draft that that's kind of what we do though sometimes
- 1:20Speaker 2: at least what I do. You know, I try not
- 1:23Speaker 2: to live too much in the moment, and then I
- 1:24Speaker 2: get caught up in the moment, and you know, it's
- 1:27Speaker 2: the whole It's why we do recency bias. You know,
- 1:30Speaker 2: it just is who I am. Hello, everybody, It's Evan Lazar,
- 1:33Speaker 2: It's Alex bart Is behind the glass. Patriots Catch twenty
- 1:37Speaker 2: two with you for the next couple of hours here. Obviously,
- 1:40Speaker 2: we're gonna be talking about the Patriots twenty twenty six
- 1:44Speaker 2: draft class. All nine picks, will rattle through all nine,
- 1:48Speaker 2: maybe get to some UDFA talk by the end of
- 1:50Speaker 2: the show, but we might hold off on the udfas
- 1:53Speaker 2: for the most part till next week, kind of spread
- 1:55Speaker 2: it out between the two shows. Obviously, the Patriots just
- 1:59Speaker 2: announcing that Rob Gronkowski is going to be a Patriot
- 2:02Speaker 2: Hall of Famer, the thirty eighth inductee yep into the
- 2:06Speaker 2: Patriots Hall player thirty eighth total, and a first ballot
- 2:11Speaker 2: Patriots Hall of Famer, just like his buddy Julian Edelman.
- 2:14Speaker 2: So that's pretty cool too. So we'll give a thought
- 2:16Speaker 2: on that as well here today, but we're going to
- 2:19Speaker 2: be mostly draft focused, of course, and recapping this twenty
- 2:23Speaker 2: twenty sixth draft. And I said, you know, we played
- 2:26Speaker 2: on the from snippet from last week of me saying,
- 2:30Speaker 2: you know, this isn't a boring draft, ALX. I haven't
- 2:33Speaker 2: come up with a great way to describe how I
- 2:37Speaker 2: feel about this Patriots draft. I didn't. I didn't hate it,
- 2:41Speaker 2: like I'm not like down on it as a whole.
- 2:44Speaker 2: But I'm also not, you know, over the moon about
- 2:48Speaker 2: what they did either. I'm kind of somewhere in the
- 2:50Speaker 2: middle with it. And I think some of that has
- 2:53Speaker 2: to do with the fact that I feel like some
- 2:56Speaker 2: of their picks were made for twenty twenty seven and
- 2:59Speaker 2: beyond the first round pick. And I would even say
- 3:03Speaker 2: to an extent Eli Raridan as well, just because of
- 3:05Speaker 2: the nature of the tight end position and the developmental
- 3:08Speaker 2: you know, timeline there at tight end. I kind of
- 3:12Speaker 2: just feel like it was sort of ho hum. You know,
- 3:14Speaker 2: we knew that going into it. Tackle, edge, rusher, tight
- 3:18Speaker 2: end were sort of the three big positions that we
- 3:22Speaker 2: thought they were going to attack. That's exactly what they did.
- 3:25Speaker 2: So I'm not I'm not saying they had a bad draft.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I just think that this was kind of okay, you know,
- 3:33Speaker 2: like I'm cool with it, but I'm not like over
- 3:35Speaker 2: the moon about it, you know, And maybe the last
- 3:38Speaker 2: couple of drafts I had a little bit more of
- 3:39Speaker 2: that over the moon feeling, well.
- 3:41Speaker 1: This was kind of my realization. It's like, you have
- 3:45Speaker 1: to recalibrate from them picking in the top five. Sure,
- 3:50Speaker 1: if they'd had this kind of draft, picking in the
- 3:52Speaker 1: top five, that would not be good. If they had
- 3:54Speaker 1: last year's kind of draft picking at the end of
- 3:56Speaker 1: each round, I'd be you know, that would be unbelievable
- 4:00Speaker 1: where they were picking for what was available to them.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I think that they had a solid draft. I think
- 4:03Speaker 1: they got three guys in the top one hundred who
- 4:06Speaker 1: realistically should be starters by call it the start of
- 4:10Speaker 1: the twenty twenty seven season, so maybe not starting right away,
- 4:13Speaker 1: but the start of the twenty twenty seven season. The
- 4:16Speaker 1: crown Over pick is good. They added depth to tackle,
- 4:18Speaker 1: they've needed that, and then yeah, the rest of Day
- 4:20Speaker 1: three to me is pretty much just special teams and
- 4:23Speaker 1: then obviously more than you're just adding quarterback depth. But
- 4:27Speaker 1: you know, I look at that top one hundred, and
- 4:29Speaker 1: I think they did a really good job in the
- 4:30Speaker 1: top one hundred and then day threes just kind of
- 4:32Speaker 1: will see. I think that was more just project players
- 4:35Speaker 1: and building out the special teams units.
- 4:37Speaker 2: So welcome to being a contender, right, I think it's
- 4:41Speaker 2: what we're saying. I know that that sounds silly coming
- 4:44Speaker 2: from an organization that has six Super Bowl championships and
- 4:48Speaker 2: knows nothing but winning for the last twenty plus years.
- 4:50Speaker 2: But it's been a minute since people like us and
- 4:55Speaker 2: people that you know, we started covering the team in
- 4:58Speaker 2: twenty eighteen. You know that it's been a minute since
- 5:01Speaker 2: that has been the case. And they made a lot
- 5:04Speaker 2: of draft picks along the lines of just pipeline players too,
- 5:09Speaker 2: you know, like Caleb Lomou is a guy, is a
- 5:11Speaker 2: pipeline player that is a get ahead of the tackle
- 5:14Speaker 2: thing with Morgan Moses and Will Campbell. That's Eli Rardan
- 5:19Speaker 2: is to get ahead of Hunter Henry aging out of
- 5:22Speaker 2: the program. Gay Bacchus is a little bit more immediate impact,
- 5:26Speaker 2: I would say, but even still, you know, that's more
- 5:29Speaker 2: getting ahead of Harold Landry. But like Landry might be
- 5:32Speaker 2: towards the end faster than some of the other guys
- 5:35Speaker 2: like Moses and the injury and Henry because of the injury.
- 5:37Speaker 2: The other thing, I would you know, I had a
- 5:39Speaker 2: few nitpicks. I want to bring those up, but yeah,
- 5:43Speaker 2: that's kind of how it feels, is like they're back
- 5:45Speaker 2: to sort of drafting for long term development versus the
- 5:50Speaker 2: last couple of drafts. You were drafting those guys to
- 5:53Speaker 2: make immediate impacts, and that has to do with where
- 5:55Speaker 2: they were picking the round, but also where they were
- 5:58Speaker 2: as a team, you know, coming off off of four
- 6:00Speaker 2: and thirteen and all that good stuff. I had a
- 6:03Speaker 2: few nippicks. Did you have any other thoughts?
- 6:04Speaker 1: I would just say it's just funny to see people react.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Like the last couple of years, it was like, Wow,
- 6:09Speaker 1: this guy was a fourth round pick, third round pick,
- 6:12Speaker 1: and they got him in the fourth because they were
- 6:13Speaker 1: picking at the very top of the round. Yeah, you
- 6:15Speaker 1: can do stuff like that. And now this year was Wow,
- 6:17Speaker 1: this guy's a fourth round pick and they drafted him
- 6:20Speaker 1: to a third because they're drafted with like the last
- 6:21Speaker 1: pick in the round. So I just thought that was
- 6:23Speaker 1: funny because, yeah, it's a different we talked about this,
- 6:27Speaker 1: it's a different range of the draft. It's a different
- 6:29Speaker 1: approach when you're picking where they are.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Yep. All right, so a few of my nippicks. I
- 6:34Speaker 2: think the biggest nitpick that I probably have here about
- 6:38Speaker 2: this draft is I really thought that they would benefit
- 6:42Speaker 2: from the having at least one pick in the fourth round.
- 6:45Speaker 2: I kind of wanted I wanted to come away with
- 6:48Speaker 2: this draft with at least four guys in the top
- 6:50Speaker 2: one fifty, and they had this big gap. They pick
- 6:53Speaker 2: a guy at ninety five and then they don't pick
- 6:54Speaker 2: again until one seventy one, and just looking at the
- 6:57Speaker 2: guys that went off in the fourth round, you know,
- 7:00Speaker 2: guys like Genesis Smith, Price, Betcher, Kyle Lewis, Trey Moore,
- 7:05Speaker 2: who I kind of came too late that I liked
- 7:07Speaker 2: a little bit. I wasn't a huge Elms or fan,
- 7:10Speaker 2: but a lot of people were. There was some defensive
- 7:12Speaker 2: linemen also in that round that came off of the
- 7:14Speaker 2: board in the fourth round, right around where they were
- 7:16Speaker 2: gonna pick. I just thought, you know, obviously, you have
- 7:21Speaker 2: to take into account that you're either getting Lomu and
- 7:23Speaker 2: Jacket a.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Guess or you're not.
- 7:25Speaker 2: You know, like it probably was worth it in terms
- 7:28Speaker 2: of the trade off there of securing those two players.
- 7:32Speaker 2: But I was a little bit disappointed that they traded
- 7:35Speaker 2: out of the.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Fourth round completely.
- 7:37Speaker 2: And I don't know if they tried to get back
- 7:39Speaker 2: in with some of those sixth round picks, moving back
- 7:42Speaker 2: from you know, one point seventy one into the fourth
- 7:44Speaker 2: round again or up I should say, I'm not sure
- 7:47Speaker 2: if they tried that or not. But I just felt like, yes,
- 7:51Speaker 2: we were in the position where they were better off
- 7:54Speaker 2: drafting for long term need and they had that luxury
- 7:57Speaker 2: and all that kind of stuff. But just in terms
- 7:59Speaker 2: of adding talent to the roster still, I would have
- 8:02Speaker 2: liked to have seen them come away with at least
- 8:04Speaker 2: four guys. They had five picks in the top one
- 8:06Speaker 2: fifty to start with, yeah, and I would have liked
- 8:09Speaker 2: to at least seen them come up with four, and
- 8:11Speaker 2: they weren't able to do that.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I disagree with you on that. I just what would
- 8:17Speaker 1: the draft of It's really easy to say that sitting
- 8:19Speaker 1: here with the players they got at the top. So
- 8:22Speaker 1: if they don't take if they don't trade up to
- 8:24Speaker 1: twenty eight right low mu goes. I think there was
- 8:26Speaker 1: some reporting that, like the Chiefs were interested him, had
- 8:27Speaker 1: them in a thirty visit whatever. Yeah, so he's off
- 8:29Speaker 1: the board. Do they end up taking Acis at thirty one?
- 8:34Speaker 1: You know, based on the reaction in the draft room
- 8:36Speaker 1: when they got him, it certainly seems like they he
- 8:38Speaker 1: was high II on their board. Yeah, you know, Okay,
- 8:40Speaker 1: so they take Acis or another edge rusher there, you know,
- 8:43Speaker 1: then they don't trade up to fifty five. I don't
- 8:45Speaker 1: know is do they end up with Oscar delp or
- 8:47Speaker 1: Sam Roush at sixty three? Then at ninety five you're
- 8:51Speaker 1: not taking the tight end. There is that where they
- 8:54Speaker 1: maybe get one of the guys you were talking about
- 8:55Speaker 1: them taking in the fourth round, and then you add
- 8:57Speaker 1: somebody else, so there's a little more depth. But I
- 9:01Speaker 1: the fact they came out of this with the tackle
- 9:03Speaker 1: and then got gay back is to me is worth
- 9:05Speaker 1: whoever you were picking in the fourth round. I think
- 9:07Speaker 1: it's really easy in the immediacy after the draft. You know,
- 9:11Speaker 1: we had so many players we liked in that range.
- 9:13Speaker 1: I think we were surprised some guys fell ye that.
- 9:16Speaker 1: It's easy to say, yeah, I wish they would have
- 9:17Speaker 1: had one of those other players. I think when you
- 9:19Speaker 1: step back and you will get what it would have cost.
- 9:20Speaker 1: You give me the give me the starting caliber tackle
- 9:24Speaker 1: over whatever rotational linebacker they were going to. Like, think
- 9:27Speaker 1: you got I think about it in that sense, and
- 9:29Speaker 1: it's like a no brainer. Now my big nitpick is
- 9:33Speaker 1: and I flashed a little bit back to I think
- 9:34Speaker 1: it was twenty twenty one was like an awesome or no,
- 9:39Speaker 1: it might have been. Twenty two was like an awesome
- 9:42Speaker 1: linebacker draft. Yes, and we were talking about, well, they're
- 9:45Speaker 1: going to come out with somebody, who's it going to be?
- 9:48Speaker 1: And they ended up not taking a linebacker and we
- 9:50Speaker 1: were all like, what they needed a linebacker? That was
- 9:52Speaker 1: super weird. It was twenty two and then you know,
- 9:56Speaker 1: ironically they ended up with one of the guys you
- 9:57Speaker 1: really like and Chad Muma, like that did end up
- 9:59Speaker 1: being that could have last My point being like, yeah,
- 10:01Speaker 1: this kind of felt like that. Wherever it was. I
- 10:03Speaker 1: think even with trading those picks, I thought they could
- 10:06Speaker 1: have done more at the linebacker position and didn't. That
- 10:09Speaker 1: would be my nitpick. But again I don't think that
- 10:12Speaker 1: that's I don't think they need to hold on to
- 10:14Speaker 1: one of those fourth round picks.
- 10:15Speaker 2: To do that. Maybe not, but I just read off
- 10:18Speaker 2: a couple of the guys that I like. There are
- 10:19Speaker 2: other linebackers that weren't. I wasn't a tie on that
- 10:22Speaker 2: one in the fourth round, And the fourth round was
- 10:24Speaker 2: a big linebacker round in this draft. And that's exactly
- 10:27Speaker 2: what Elliott Wolf said. He said that the draft sweet
- 10:29Speaker 2: spot on linebacker was going to be Day three. Yeah,
- 10:32Speaker 2: and so a lot of those linebackers ended up going
- 10:34Speaker 2: in the fourth round. I probably come out in the
- 10:38Speaker 2: wash saying, yeah, I would rather low Moon Atcus than
- 10:42Speaker 2: a fourth round pick. Yeah, but I think that that's
- 10:45Speaker 2: a fair It's still to me they're still building and
- 10:50Speaker 2: this draft feels very top heavy to me. They got
- 10:54Speaker 2: three guys in the top one hundred that should be
- 10:56Speaker 2: good developmental players for them and maybe even starting caliber
- 10:59Speaker 2: town and then they have everything else they did on
- 11:02Speaker 2: Day three, which I am sort of just not putting
- 11:06Speaker 2: any eggs in any of those baskets and expecting those
- 11:09Speaker 2: guys to be bottom of the roster, special teams types
- 11:13Speaker 2: of player. And there could have been a better middle
- 11:16Speaker 2: class to their draft, I suppose. Yeah, way to put it, crown.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Over would be the one exception for me, even if
- 11:20Speaker 1: he doesn't I think there's value in having that swing tackle,
- 11:23Speaker 1: you know, maybe Adrie and Wattle two point zero. Yeah,
- 11:26Speaker 1: which I say is a compliment if you've listened to
- 11:28Speaker 1: the show. But yes, yeah, I'll take the top. I
- 11:31Speaker 1: think they picking it at what was assigned thirty one
- 11:35Speaker 1: and still having a top heavy draft is you don't
- 11:38Speaker 1: usually see it go that way, Like that's where you're
- 11:40Speaker 1: usually trying to take advantage of the middle rounds they
- 11:42Speaker 1: were able to have. I'm fine with them having a
- 11:43Speaker 1: top heavy draft after the season they just had. If
- 11:45Speaker 1: they'd won like five games again, maybe i'd feel different.
- 11:48Speaker 1: You know, I'm okay that they kind of sacrifice the
- 11:51Speaker 1: middle of the draft and moved up.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Okay, we're gonna come back to that. I know, we
- 11:55Speaker 2: don't have to keep laboring in that point. The other uh,
- 11:57Speaker 2: midpick that I had or not midpick, I guess I
- 12:00Speaker 2: would more call them coin flips, right, And these are
- 12:03Speaker 2: the things that we do in this draft, in the
- 12:05Speaker 2: draft process, and and they're late. You know, I didn't
- 12:09Speaker 2: really have any coin flip picks early because I thought
- 12:11Speaker 2: Lomu and Acis were just so clearly the best available
- 12:15Speaker 2: players at their position at the time that they picked
- 12:17Speaker 2: that I wouldn't have gone in different directions there. But
- 12:21Speaker 2: on day three obviously Caleb or Karen Prontia and Caleb
- 12:26Speaker 2: Karen Prunty was one of their guys. I you know,
- 12:28Speaker 2: they drafted him earlier in consus.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Catch twenty two told you last week.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Yeah, good point. I also I give them the benefit
- 12:38Speaker 2: of the doubt because of Craig Woodson. They kind of
- 12:40Speaker 2: drafted Craig Woodson way ahead of consensus and they were
- 12:43Speaker 2: ended up ended up being one hundred percent right about
- 12:45Speaker 2: that one. That was a good evaluation by them. But
- 12:49Speaker 2: Karen Prunty in the fifth round, Zeke Massis was my
- 12:54Speaker 2: guy in that range of the draft, the cal corner. Yeah,
- 12:57Speaker 2: and he went a couple of picks later. So I'm
- 12:59Speaker 2: not picks later earlier later, So I'm not saying so
- 13:04Speaker 2: I'm not saying that these are there are one hundred
- 13:07Speaker 2: percent wrong and I'm one hundred percent right. But this
- 13:10Speaker 2: is what the draft ends up coming down to, is
- 13:12Speaker 2: these coin flips, and there's a chance that both of
- 13:14Speaker 2: them can't play right right. But at the end of
- 13:16Speaker 2: the day, that was one. The other the bigger one though,
- 13:19Speaker 2: I thought was obis or over Harold Perkins, which I
- 13:23Speaker 2: would just love to know, true Sierum Elliott Wolf, Like,
- 13:28Speaker 2: what was it about Harold Perkins that I think we
- 13:32Speaker 2: can kind of say maybe he was off the board
- 13:34Speaker 2: altogether because they had multiple opportunities to draft him, he
- 13:37Speaker 2: didn't what what what did they see in Obis or
- 13:41Speaker 2: that they favored him over Perkins because Perkins went a
- 13:44Speaker 2: few picks later, right, Or I'll throw.
- 13:46Speaker 1: In there a different gotten player, but a linebacker that
- 13:47Speaker 1: we thought was a fit for them, Maiden Fisher. Right.
- 13:49Speaker 2: So those sort of again I'm not saying that they're
- 13:53Speaker 2: right and I'm wrong, or I'm wrong and they're right,
- 13:55Speaker 2: but those are the coin flips of the draft that
- 13:58Speaker 2: if any of those guys that they could have had,
- 14:01Speaker 2: like if Harold Perkins ends up realizing his potential in
- 14:04Speaker 2: the NFL and takes off and is a great player
- 14:07Speaker 2: in the league as he has the athletics, ism and
- 14:10Speaker 2: raw measurables to do, then we're gonna say, you know,
- 14:13Speaker 2: they're gonna be kicking themselves a little bit that they
- 14:15Speaker 2: didn't draft him when they had the opportunity on Day three?
- 14:18Speaker 2: Did you have any any like those? Because that those
- 14:20Speaker 2: are the two that stood out to me in terms.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Of yeah, I think it's obi Izor especially, Yeah, was
- 14:26Speaker 1: the one for me, and again noting who came after him, Yeah,
- 14:31Speaker 1: probably the same too, And then PROMPTI not just that
- 14:34Speaker 1: that Zeke Masses went right after. But I know it's
- 14:36Speaker 1: a different position. But Adam Randall, like those are guys
- 14:38Speaker 1: that they were tied to. Those are guys they had
- 14:41Speaker 1: for visits. So and I also just think with with
- 14:43Speaker 1: Prunty two, he probably I don't think it's fair, but
- 14:47Speaker 1: like it was three hours and sixteen minutes before the
- 14:50Speaker 1: Patriots picked on day three. Yeah, and I wonder if
- 14:52Speaker 1: there was an element of people waiting, like the people
- 14:54Speaker 1: actually follow it, waiting around all day and getting a
- 14:56Speaker 1: guy who, again, if you listen to the show, you'd
- 14:58Speaker 1: heard of, but if not, you might not of that.
- 15:01Speaker 1: But yeah, those were the two. Obiisor was probably the
- 15:04Speaker 1: biggest head scratching me again because of what else was
- 15:06Speaker 1: on the board, and just overall, I thought they'd be
- 15:08Speaker 1: able to do more at linebacker. Ye.
- 15:10Speaker 2: But yeah, So before we get into the picks, I
- 15:14Speaker 2: also just wanted to talk a little bit about you know,
- 15:17Speaker 2: what's left on this roster with some of the holes
- 15:19Speaker 2: that were left. I think we're both in agreement. Number
- 15:23Speaker 2: one right down to me with a bullet as linebacker.
- 15:25Speaker 2: You know, they I was expecting because I kind of
- 15:28Speaker 2: downplayed the need at linebacker because I was expecting them
- 15:30Speaker 2: to draft one pretty early, maybe not top one hundred,
- 15:33Speaker 2: but top one fifty. That doesn't end up happening in
- 15:37Speaker 2: this draft. And so now Roberts Blaine, Christian Ellis, kJ,
- 15:42Speaker 2: Britt Obis or as a sixth round pick, there's not
- 15:46Speaker 2: a whole lot there in terms of depth behind Roberts
- 15:49Speaker 2: plain because even to me, Britt and Ellis are not
- 15:52Speaker 2: really true. Mike's like, you're not gonna those guys are
- 15:55Speaker 2: weak side linebackers, special teamers, you know, running Chase type
- 15:59Speaker 2: of linebacker's splaying. I feel like is the only guy
- 16:02Speaker 2: on the roster that kind of fits that prototypical mic linebacker.
- 16:07Speaker 2: So what do they do there at linebacker? I wouldn't.
- 16:10Speaker 2: I don't know anything, not inside info, but just looking
- 16:13Speaker 2: at the free agency market, it seemed like the free
- 16:16Speaker 2: agency market was a little bit slow at linebacker because
- 16:19Speaker 2: of how good the linebacker class was in the draft.
- 16:21Speaker 2: So I actually think there are some names out there
- 16:24Speaker 2: that are kind of intriguing in the veteran market, you know,
- 16:27Speaker 2: Bobby Wagner, Matt Mulano, you know, players like that that
- 16:31Speaker 2: maybe they could go target now, and you know, you
- 16:33Speaker 2: get into the whole compic formula thing and how that
- 16:36Speaker 2: goes out the door after the draft and all that
- 16:38Speaker 2: good stuff too. But I look at linebacker, I look
- 16:42Speaker 2: at nose tackle. I was a little surprised. You know,
- 16:44Speaker 2: there's a couple of those coin flips at the end
- 16:46Speaker 2: of the draft where they could have had like a
- 16:48Speaker 2: Timmy Keenan for like multiple rounds, they went in a
- 16:51Speaker 2: different direction. And then I would say safety is the
- 16:55Speaker 2: third one, maybe a little bit guard, But based off
- 16:59Speaker 2: of what Elliott Wolf said, do they feel like lou
- 17:02Speaker 2: In a Pinch could kick inside and play guard if
- 17:05Speaker 2: they needed him to as a rookie. Maybe, But yeah,
- 17:09Speaker 2: I would say those four spots linebacker, guard, safety, nose tackle.
- 17:15Speaker 2: If they were to add a veteran, maybe they'd look there.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I'd agree with you. I think guard more so.
- 17:20Speaker 1: The worry for me is the long term and you're
- 17:22Speaker 1: not gonna move Lomu to guard like full time.
- 17:25Speaker 2: No, I am sort just saying you lose multiple layers.
- 17:28Speaker 1: No, they well, they really only have one proven layer
- 17:31Speaker 1: of depth. It's it's it's Ben Brown. I'm not sure,
- 17:33Speaker 1: you know, if we want to get to some of
- 17:34Speaker 1: the u DFA's a guy like John Darius Morgan is
- 17:37Speaker 1: maybe gonna have a shot to make this team. He
- 17:39Speaker 1: has experienced specifically at right guard, has played a little
- 17:42Speaker 1: tackle as well. Uh, you know, defensive tackle. It's David
- 17:46Speaker 1: Blay right is the defensive tackle they signed. Like this
- 17:49Speaker 1: is where I look at the u DFAs. They need
- 17:51Speaker 1: a nose tackle, they need a run stop or not
- 17:53Speaker 1: like an attacking guy they have like blay Is in
- 17:58Speaker 1: theory that kind of player. It's we played, but he's
- 18:01Speaker 1: six two two ninety two. That's probably too small to
- 18:04Speaker 1: play that role in the NFL. So, you know, can
- 18:06Speaker 1: he put on fifteen pounds between now in training camp
- 18:09Speaker 1: and maybe put himself in the mix. And then we're
- 18:12Speaker 1: the linebacker yes? And then safety yes? And I know
- 18:15Speaker 1: you know they didn't sign any udfa is there. I
- 18:17Speaker 1: know some people have asked about Pronti playing safety. I
- 18:20Speaker 1: could kind of see it me too, But I asked
- 18:22Speaker 1: Ryan Counting about it. He didn't. He kind of sounded
- 18:24Speaker 1: like they just wanted to develop in the corner for
- 18:26Speaker 1: right now. So maybe not something to expect, but yeah,
- 18:30Speaker 1: that's another spot. But that's another one. Like I think
- 18:32Speaker 1: del Pettis is okay as a backup, is okay as
- 18:34Speaker 1: a third guy. That's more of like a long term
- 18:37Speaker 1: ye one byed thing. Yeah, you're not really getting that
- 18:41Speaker 1: guy in free agency.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Yeah, they'll only get safety. And this was kind of
- 18:44Speaker 2: in the the cluster of fourth rounders I mentioned, you know,
- 18:46Speaker 2: Genesis Smith goes in the fourth round, maybe you know
- 18:49Speaker 2: guy I really liked. I don't know how they felt
- 18:51Speaker 2: about him. I wasn't really expecting them to go safety
- 18:54Speaker 2: in the top one hundred though, and so that once
- 18:56Speaker 2: we got outside the top one hundred and they didn't
- 18:58Speaker 2: have they had a huge gap and pitch. You know,
- 19:00Speaker 2: I didn't really feel like there was many safety coin
- 19:04Speaker 2: flips that I was like, why didn't they draft this
- 19:07Speaker 2: guy here?
- 19:07Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 19:08Speaker 2: Like through the first one hundred and seventy picks, let's
- 19:12Speaker 2: call it, I felt like all those safeties I kind
- 19:14Speaker 2: of liked were gone. Yeah at that point, So that's
- 19:17Speaker 2: the you know, that was the one position that sort
- 19:20Speaker 2: of slipped through the cracks a little bit. Just the
- 19:22Speaker 2: way to approach the draft.
- 19:23Speaker 1: All right, real quick, I'll give you one more because
- 19:25Speaker 1: you said we might not get to u DFAs in
- 19:27Speaker 1: terms of the needs. Uh. Jordan Kuitikowski from Central Michigan.
- 19:31Speaker 1: He's not even a UDFA. He's a mini camp invite. Yeah,
- 19:33Speaker 1: going a little in my bag here you are. He
- 19:37Speaker 1: flies around, man, he he just gets to the football
- 19:40Speaker 1: and you know he's a little in smaller side six
- 19:42Speaker 1: point two thirty five. But that guy that's kind of
- 19:44Speaker 1: the clean up crew.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Now he did it in the MAC. It's a long
- 19:48Speaker 1: cry from the NFL. So we'll have to see. But
- 19:51Speaker 1: in terms of the prototype, we'll see at what level.
- 19:53Speaker 1: But in terms of the prototype, I do think he
- 19:54Speaker 1: is the guy that fits that prototype. So it'll be
- 19:57Speaker 1: interesting to see. They have three open roster spots now
- 20:00Speaker 1: right after they.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Yesterday, they're at eighty seven. Yep.
- 20:03Speaker 1: So you look at those mini camp invites quick Kowski
- 20:06Speaker 1: and then they signed a punter too, which they ended
- 20:08Speaker 1: up batting Mitch McCarthy.
- 20:09Speaker 2: So there you got, you got your punter.
- 20:12Speaker 1: A couple. Uh, maybe they're not even on the roster yet.
- 20:14Speaker 1: We'll have to see this is going real deep. But yeah,
- 20:16Speaker 1: you know it positions in need a couple guys to
- 20:18Speaker 1: keep an eye on.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Yeah, well, well we'll definitely talk more about the DFAs
- 20:21Speaker 2: I've gotten through a couple of them, uh today and yesterday.
- 20:26Speaker 2: But Rookie Mini Camp is two weeks away, right, two
- 20:29Speaker 2: weeks two weeks from Friday, Well it starts. It starts Friday,
- 20:34Speaker 2: Laturday Saturday. We have access to day two of Rookie
- 20:37Speaker 2: Mini Camp. So I figured we'd talk about those guys
- 20:40Speaker 2: a little bit more as Rookie Mini Camp got closer,
- 20:42Speaker 2: because there'll be a highlight at a Rookie Mini Camp
- 20:45Speaker 2: for sure, because last year Rookie Mini Camp is when
- 20:48Speaker 2: we were introduced to fin Chisholm and Land Thearrison and
- 20:51Speaker 2: they were immediately annointed stars in Patriots Land.
- 20:55Speaker 1: So CJ. Deprie remember people, Yeah, he looked.
- 20:58Speaker 2: He does like fit the suit. He was just a
- 21:00Speaker 2: big dude, look to the part. Okay, let's get into
- 21:03Speaker 2: the picks. Let's go pick by pick as we do here.
- 21:06Speaker 2: We only have nine so this is like we've done
- 21:08Speaker 2: way more in two hours eleven or twelve last year.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Let's start with Lomu first round obviously twenty eighth. Overall, Here,
- 21:18Speaker 2: here's where I'm at with Lomu, because I admit I
- 21:22Speaker 2: was a little lukewarm otted on this on the stream
- 21:24Speaker 2: on Thursday night. Wasn't the tackle I was expecting them
- 21:27Speaker 2: to pick, wasn't It wasn't my guy, you know in
- 21:31Speaker 2: the tackle class, And that probably you know, skewed my
- 21:35Speaker 2: reaction at right.
- 21:36Speaker 1: We were just bummed that we didn't hit the pick. I
- 21:37Speaker 1: think we were that was objected that onto him.
- 21:40Speaker 2: That was our conversation after Thursday night was let's not
- 21:44Speaker 2: let's not do that. Let's not make our feelings that
- 21:49Speaker 2: we missed not having.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Him on our board, in part because it was kind
- 21:53Speaker 1: of like Gonzales, but we had kind of hedged Gonzalez
- 21:55Speaker 1: a little.
- 21:56Speaker 2: More like Gonzalez was my number one player on the
- 21:59Speaker 2: big board.
- 22:00Speaker 1: This was like we were like, let's not let the
- 22:01Speaker 1: fact that we missed on this like that doesn't make
- 22:03Speaker 1: him a work.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Now sounds terrible I had walking back from that one
- 22:07Speaker 2: a little bit after the draft. Sounds super cocky, but yeah,
- 22:11Speaker 2: that's that's true. I think that the you know, the
- 22:14Speaker 2: best way to describe below MoU until we can actually
- 22:17Speaker 2: break down his play. I think it's better for me
- 22:19Speaker 2: to explain why I didn't have him on the board
- 22:22Speaker 2: versus why he was drafted by the Patriots. It was
- 22:25Speaker 2: really a couple of different factors. Number one was I
- 22:30Speaker 2: would say, just playdemeanor, play style, whatever you want to
- 22:35Speaker 2: call it. He's just not a violent blocker. And they
- 22:39Speaker 2: make so much stress, they put so much emphasis on
- 22:44Speaker 2: finish in violence and all that different type of stuff,
- 22:49Speaker 2: Like how many times do we hear the coaching staff
- 22:51Speaker 2: use the word on the field violence? Right, and then
- 22:54Speaker 2: they draft kind of a finesse tackle, pass blocking tackle.
- 22:58Speaker 2: It just didn't feel like that. And then I thought,
- 23:01Speaker 2: what was interesting not to jump the shark to the
- 23:03Speaker 2: next pick here, But like then they pick Atkis, who
- 23:06Speaker 2: is just a absolute animal.
- 23:09Speaker 1: A little more of a program fit.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Yeah, right, And so like I just I feel like
- 23:13Speaker 2: we weren't totally off with that mattering, Right, it just
- 23:18Speaker 2: didn't matter in this case. Well, I think it's we
- 23:21Speaker 2: probably would have considered it more if we thought he
- 23:22Speaker 2: was gonna fall.
- 23:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:24Speaker 1: That was the big thing for me, was that tackle.
- 23:26Speaker 1: That was the young guy.
- 23:27Speaker 2: That was the second part I was gonna get to
- 23:30Speaker 2: was it felt like he was probably gonna go where
- 23:34Speaker 2: Miller and I on a chore ended up going. And
- 23:38Speaker 2: I wonder if some of the reason why he didn't
- 23:41Speaker 2: go there are some of the reasons that I wasn't
- 23:43Speaker 2: super on him.
- 23:45Speaker 1: You know.
- 23:45Speaker 2: I think the the grit, the finish, the play strength
- 23:51Speaker 2: is something that teams looked at with him.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Well, we did this with Christian Gonzales three years ago.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Yeah, Christian Gonzales was more about the alpha, right, like
- 23:59Speaker 2: he didn't have that aura.
- 24:00Speaker 1: It was all kind it was kind of the same conversation.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I remember.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Like he doesn't want to tackle, yeah, you know, shamming
- 24:07Speaker 1: at the which didn't it Like, look at him this year,
- 24:09Speaker 1: he's right laying the lumber this year.
- 24:12Speaker 2: How funny is it not to go on this socide
- 24:14Speaker 2: about Gonza, who did get his fifth year option picked up.
- 24:17Speaker 2: So it's kind of relevant. If I had to describe
- 24:20Speaker 2: one of the players on the team that has the
- 24:23Speaker 2: most aura, he might be number one.
- 24:26Speaker 1: I mean, their quarterback. He's break may but like his
- 24:31Speaker 1: name it.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Just but just in terms of pure like.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Aura, like he's up there yeaheah.
- 24:36Speaker 2: And I think it's so funny that that was the
- 24:39Speaker 2: big knock on him coming in was that he didn't
- 24:42Speaker 2: have that like edge to him and he wasn't, you know,
- 24:45Speaker 2: like that kind of player.
- 24:46Speaker 1: So let me ask you this because it relates to Lomu. Yeah,
- 24:50Speaker 1: was it there and we made and maybe it's a
- 24:51Speaker 1: little bit of both. Was it there and we missed it?
- 24:55Speaker 1: Or did they coach that into him? And did Rabel
- 24:59Speaker 1: coach that in them? And can that be coached? And
- 25:03Speaker 1: can they coach it into Lomu to be a little nastier?
- 25:06Speaker 1: Maybe he's never the glass eater. Will Campbell is right,
- 25:08Speaker 1: but and look, I don't think you need five absolute
- 25:11Speaker 1: bullies on the line. You can't have zero, but I
- 25:14Speaker 1: don't think you need five. And they have a couple
- 25:16Speaker 1: guys that are nasty, So I don't think Lomo needs
- 25:19Speaker 1: to be the tone setter. They have tone setters. But
- 25:21Speaker 1: can they coach Lomu to be a little more nasty?
- 25:23Speaker 1: Like maybe did they coach Gonzalez to be a little
- 25:25Speaker 1: more nasty?
- 25:27Speaker 2: Absolutely, it's absolutely something that they could technically coach into him.
- 25:31Speaker 1: I I just think.
- 25:33Speaker 2: That eventually the trenches become a fight, right, Like, eventually
- 25:38Speaker 2: the gloves have to go on and it becomes a
- 25:41Speaker 2: little bit of a street fight in there, and I
- 25:45Speaker 2: just don't know a lot of guys. And I think
- 25:47Speaker 2: that typically a first round picks. When you see tackles
- 25:52Speaker 2: that don't succeed in the first round, it's not usually
- 25:56Speaker 2: measurables or raw talent or athleticism because you don't usually
- 26:01Speaker 2: get drafted at that position if you don't have the
- 26:03Speaker 2: athleticism and the raw ability. It's more just this stuff
- 26:10Speaker 2: like nasty and like you know, play strength and grit
- 26:13Speaker 2: and finish and that kind of thing. Like you have
- 26:17Speaker 2: to you have to play with an edge at that position,
- 26:21Speaker 2: and I think that they are going to have to
- 26:23Speaker 2: maybe push that a little bit with him. He'd kind
- 26:26Speaker 2: of force it out of him, and we've seen that.
- 26:29Speaker 2: I would also say with mike're able to an extent
- 26:31Speaker 2: with Drake May. You know, I think he's pushed Drake
- 26:34Speaker 2: May in that way too, So that's possible. So play
- 26:37Speaker 2: style where he was going to go, I think we
- 26:41Speaker 2: both thought he was going to go higher, which is
- 26:43Speaker 2: a feather in the Patriots cap that they were able
- 26:45Speaker 2: to get him at twenty eight versus where we thought
- 26:47Speaker 2: he was going to go. The last thing that I
- 26:49Speaker 2: was concerned about was that he exclusively basically played left
- 26:53Speaker 2: tackle in college. So whether you are and I know
- 26:57Speaker 2: there are a lot of people out there that are
- 26:59Speaker 2: in favor of moving Campbell, or you're saying nope, Campbell,
- 27:04Speaker 2: Like the team is right now, Campbell's our left tackle,
- 27:07Speaker 2: he's not moving. Well, now Lomu has to be the
- 27:10Speaker 2: one that's moving. Somebody's got to move. And some of
- 27:14Speaker 2: the things that you heard pre draft and read pre
- 27:17Speaker 2: draft about Lomu was that Utah discovered that Finol was
- 27:22Speaker 2: more comfortable playing on the right side and that's why
- 27:25Speaker 2: he played on the right side and Lomu stayed at
- 27:27Speaker 2: left tackle. So I guess that's a long winded way
- 27:31Speaker 2: of saying you're creating sort of a musical chairs here
- 27:35Speaker 2: of sorts. And the easiest thing to do is Lomu
- 27:37Speaker 2: just develops as a right tackle and plays as a
- 27:39Speaker 2: right tackles. That's the straightest path here. But if he
- 27:45Speaker 2: plays at right tackle and he's ineffective or not as
- 27:47Speaker 2: effective as he would be on the left side, well,
- 27:51Speaker 2: now we're starting to get into the musical chairs of
- 27:53Speaker 2: the offensive line. And does that mean Campbell's flipping? Does
- 27:56Speaker 2: that mean Campbell's kicking in? Like? Where what are you
- 27:59Speaker 2: doing there, You're messing with the guy you just drafted
- 28:01Speaker 2: fourth overall. So that's why in summary pre draft I
- 28:09Speaker 2: was really big on I didn't really love the idea
- 28:11Speaker 2: of taking a red shirt tackle.
- 28:13Speaker 1: I didn't, but I.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Sold myself on it because I really liked Blake Miller
- 28:17Speaker 2: and Eonitor. I thought they were both really good players.
- 28:20Speaker 2: They went a lot higher than even some expected, I
- 28:22Speaker 2: would say, both of them, especially Eonotor. So now we're
- 28:27Speaker 2: getting into a mix of they drafted a left tackle
- 28:30Speaker 2: to potentially play right tackle, and then they're going to
- 28:32Speaker 2: move Campbell around. None of this is Lomu's fault, by
- 28:35Speaker 2: the way, Like this is about Lomu necessarily, right, It's
- 28:38Speaker 2: just about their roster construction. So that was sort of
- 28:42Speaker 2: my take on why I was a little bit lukewarm
- 28:45Speaker 2: on it. Then I do want to talk about what
- 28:47Speaker 2: he's good at, because I don't want this to be
- 28:49Speaker 2: all the things that he's bad at, because again, this
- 28:51Speaker 2: is not This is less about Caleb Lomu and more
- 28:54Speaker 2: just about the asset and the construction and the roster
- 28:58Speaker 2: than it is about him as a player.
- 29:00Speaker 1: No, I think that's fair, and I wonder I think
- 29:02Speaker 1: it might be as simple as they wanted to come
- 29:05Speaker 1: out of this with the tackle. And I we remember
- 29:07Speaker 1: this last year with the arm On members, Like, I'm
- 29:09Speaker 1: not a big fan of tackle switching sides. I think
- 29:11Speaker 1: that that's a difficult thing to do if you are
- 29:15Speaker 1: going to have somebody do it. Athleticism is maybe the
- 29:18Speaker 1: biggest tool you can have in your bag to pick
- 29:20Speaker 1: that up. Low Moo and for what it's worth, Campbell
- 29:22Speaker 1: or both athletic. I think low Moo's probably just built
- 29:25Speaker 1: a little more with his length to be a guy
- 29:27Speaker 1: that can switch than Campbell is. But like at the
- 29:31Speaker 1: end of the day, I would rather have like last year,
- 29:35Speaker 1: they had the option where they had a right tackle,
- 29:38Speaker 1: they had a left tackle. They both had questions. They
- 29:40Speaker 1: took the left tackle to play left tackle, which I
- 29:42Speaker 1: still believe was the right pick. You know, this year
- 29:44Speaker 1: the only option was a left tackle or coming out
- 29:47Speaker 1: of it with no tackle, And I wonder if it
- 29:49Speaker 1: was as simple as we got to come out of it.
- 29:51Speaker 1: We have a chance to come out with a tackle.
- 29:53Speaker 1: We got to come out of this with a tackle.
- 29:55Speaker 1: We believe in our coaching staff will get him to
- 29:58Speaker 1: you know, we'll work on him flipping sides he's the profile,
- 30:01Speaker 1: he is the body to do it.
- 30:02Speaker 2: The positive that you mentioned there about flipping sides, because
- 30:06Speaker 2: I asked the Round about that process and what exactly
- 30:10Speaker 2: goes into that. The number one thing that was pointed
- 30:12Speaker 2: out to me was that you don't get really concerned
- 30:15Speaker 2: about that with great athletes. If guys aren't great athletes,
- 30:19Speaker 2: and then you throw into a fact, you know, now
- 30:21Speaker 2: they have to retrain him. On the other side, that
- 30:24Speaker 2: gets a little bit more complicated, but it's less so
- 30:27Speaker 2: when you know that the guy is really super app
- 30:29Speaker 2: and it's.
- 30:30Speaker 1: The football IQ too. And what he talked about after
- 30:32Speaker 1: the draft about how he's kind of a film It
- 30:34Speaker 1: was funny is he's asked after the pick, like can
- 30:37Speaker 1: you lomu, can you describe your game? And he gives
- 30:41Speaker 1: this whole answer about how you know, he tries to
- 30:43Speaker 1: be very technically sound and he likes to study a
- 30:46Speaker 1: lot of film because he wants to know what the
- 30:48Speaker 1: defense is going to do so you can play with
- 30:49Speaker 1: the anticipations, we can play quick, which is all awesome stuff,
- 30:53Speaker 1: great stuff to be doing, and then he kind of
- 30:55Speaker 1: throws it at the end, Oh, you know, I'm alignment,
- 30:57Speaker 1: so I gotta be be physical and be tough and
- 30:59Speaker 1: all that. Not really an afterthought, but yeah, kind of
- 31:02Speaker 1: just like, oh yeah, I'm alignment likes I gotta make
- 31:04Speaker 1: sure I say the linement stuff.
- 31:06Speaker 2: Yeah, but I not exactly I'm gonna fight and die
- 31:10Speaker 2: for him.
- 31:10Speaker 1: No, but he seems like right, he seems like he's
- 31:14Speaker 1: a like a studier.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Yeah. I think that that's how he's just.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Just from the very brief conversations I had with people
- 31:25Speaker 1: who like worked with him in college, like, yeah, wants
- 31:28Speaker 1: to learn, wants to be coached. I think he's somebody
- 31:32Speaker 1: that understands. And this isn't a knock on him. I
- 31:35Speaker 1: think everybody there's no perfect prospect, right, everybody who comes
- 31:39Speaker 1: to the NFL needs to get better. I think there
- 31:41Speaker 1: are some guys that look at it, especially like in
- 31:44Speaker 1: the high rounds or like I just got drafted. I'm
- 31:46Speaker 1: that dude, like I'm just gonna And then there's some
- 31:49Speaker 1: guys who have the recognition of I need to get better,
- 31:52Speaker 1: like I'm not good enough yet. And I think he's
- 31:54Speaker 1: a guy just from hearing him talk this is just
- 31:57Speaker 1: very service level, but has the recognition of of there's
- 32:01Speaker 1: room to improve and wants to put the work and
- 32:02Speaker 1: to improve versus just like I can come in and
- 32:05Speaker 1: do exactly what I was doing in college and be fine.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Because that's the case for maybe kickers and punters or
- 32:11Speaker 1: the exception. Outside of kickers and punters, zero point zero
- 32:14Speaker 1: zero zero percent of all players who've ever been drafted
- 32:17Speaker 1: can come into the NFL change nothing and be successful.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Yeah, so I feel, you know, on the positive side,
- 32:25Speaker 2: the player itself has done nothing wrong here. I think
- 32:29Speaker 2: he's a very athletic player. We can all see that.
- 32:32Speaker 2: The athletic testing is through the roof. I have a
- 32:34Speaker 2: take on that here in a second. But the one
- 32:37Speaker 2: thing that I really liked about his game was his
- 32:40Speaker 2: ability to protect inside out, Like I felt like he
- 32:43Speaker 2: did a really nice job of mirroring in past protection
- 32:47Speaker 2: both inside moves and high side pressure as well. You know,
- 32:51Speaker 2: guys that are trying to go around his outside edge,
- 32:53Speaker 2: you can just see it, like it pops off the tape.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Atu how smooth he is, how much range he has
- 32:58Speaker 2: at that position. You know he can get up you know,
- 33:01Speaker 2: backside reach, combo block, get up to the second level,
- 33:05Speaker 2: get out in space and block, and really unlocked that
- 33:07Speaker 2: athleticism in multiple, multiple ways. You know, there's some past
- 33:11Speaker 2: pro technique stuff that I think he's going to have
- 33:14Speaker 2: to work on. You know, every once in a while
- 33:16Speaker 2: he drifts or kind of like fades off the top
- 33:19Speaker 2: of the set, which opens the inside. He'll also open
- 33:22Speaker 2: the hip a little bit early on the outside against
- 33:24Speaker 2: high side speed. But in general he's I mean, he
- 33:27Speaker 2: didn't allow a sack last year. It's a Milwaukee offense
- 33:29Speaker 2: and that was a part of it with me as
- 33:31Speaker 2: well as you know, Utah ran the ball sixty percent
- 33:34Speaker 2: of the time. It's it's a read option like RPO
- 33:37Speaker 2: heavy offense that they ran last year. But I actually
- 33:40Speaker 2: went back and watched him in twenty twenty four. You're
- 33:42Speaker 2: welcome because good job doing drafted. Somebody told me to
- 33:46Speaker 2: do that. My friend Brandon Thorn said, hey, you know,
- 33:49Speaker 2: it might be worth going to watch twenty four because
- 33:51Speaker 2: they had a little bit more of like a spread
- 33:54Speaker 2: drop back scheme in twenty four. It wasn't as RPO
- 33:57Speaker 2: centric in twenty four, and so he did have a
- 34:01Speaker 2: few more I think last year he had one hundred
- 34:04Speaker 2: and five true pass sets, which take out like screens
- 34:07Speaker 2: and RPOs and play action and just looks at straight dropbacks,
- 34:11Speaker 2: so I think he had one hundred and five last year.
- 34:14Speaker 2: He had one ninety nine the year before, so almost double.
- 34:17Speaker 2: So it was a little bit more NFL style straight
- 34:20Speaker 2: dropback in twenty twenty four compared to twenty five. He's
- 34:24Speaker 2: a very skilled pass protector. Already very good pass protector.
- 34:28Speaker 2: I mentioned the athleticism, the movement blocks, the reaches, the
- 34:32Speaker 2: combos up to the second level. He can pull a
- 34:34Speaker 2: little bit too. If you want to pull the tackle,
- 34:36Speaker 2: he can do that. They have now added Alex over
- 34:40Speaker 2: the last two offseasons, Will Campbell elite athlete, Jared Wilson
- 34:46Speaker 2: athlete at center, Caleb Blomo elite athlete, and even though
- 34:51Speaker 2: it's been a couple of years of him in the league,
- 34:53Speaker 2: Elijah Veritucker e lead athlete. So the four super athletes
- 34:58Speaker 2: on the offensive line. I asked Elliot Wolf about it
- 35:02Speaker 2: after the draft on Friday, and he said that that
- 35:05Speaker 2: was a initiative, like that is an objective of THEIRS
- 35:09Speaker 2: to get more athletic off the offensive line. There's a
- 35:12Speaker 2: lot of layers to pull back of that on that onion,
- 35:15Speaker 2: you know, like there's different directions you could take that.
- 35:18Speaker 2: But he mentioned a couple of different things. A obviously,
- 35:21Speaker 2: box number one is pass protection and protecting Drake May, right,
- 35:25Speaker 2: So the more athletic guys you have in theory, they're
- 35:27Speaker 2: better pass blockers. The number two thing, though he mentioned
- 35:30Speaker 2: was movement, you know, multiple run scheme, but also moving
- 35:35Speaker 2: the pocket a little bit with Drake May as well,
- 35:37Speaker 2: and they feel like those athletes will help that. So
- 35:41Speaker 2: I do think that they're trending in that direction. Now.
- 35:43Speaker 2: Maybe it won't be twenty six because they're still gonna
- 35:45Speaker 2: have Moses and on when you on the right side
- 35:47Speaker 2: in twenty six, But I think their long term goal
- 35:51Speaker 2: is to have an offensive line that's built more on
- 35:53Speaker 2: athleticism than power. But with that has to come changes
- 35:56Speaker 2: in scheme. Right, You're not gonna run you know, gap
- 36:00Speaker 2: on hill gap schemes with athletic offensive linemen like that's counterintuitive.
- 36:06Speaker 2: So I do think that long term they're going to
- 36:09Speaker 2: have to shift maybe to more zone blocking. And we've
- 36:14Speaker 2: heard that before, We've heard them try to do it before.
- 36:17Speaker 2: I don't think that anybody that is of the level
- 36:20Speaker 2: of Josh McDaniels in terms of a coordinator, has tried
- 36:23Speaker 2: to do it. But they have tried to do it.
- 36:26Speaker 2: The other thing I would just mention in that similar
- 36:29Speaker 2: bucket is I look at Mike Gonwenu, who is in
- 36:33Speaker 2: the final year of a three year contract, expensive at
- 36:36Speaker 2: twenty five million dollars cap hit, and is a three
- 36:40Speaker 2: fifty pound road grading offensive lineman. So on the one hand,
- 36:45Speaker 2: you could say, okay, well, maybe the left side's going
- 36:47Speaker 2: to be athletic and the right side's going to be
- 36:49Speaker 2: more power for this year. But long term, if they're
- 36:54Speaker 2: trying to get more athletic, if they're trying to do
- 36:56Speaker 2: more of the zone boots and all that kind of stuff,
- 36:59Speaker 2: you know, is on when who really in the long
- 37:02Speaker 2: term plans they're at right guar because that doesn't fit
- 37:05Speaker 2: him either. So those are of the two kind of
- 37:08Speaker 2: like domino scheme effects that I sort of saw from
- 37:11Speaker 2: this pick. But it is interesting to mean that they
- 37:15Speaker 2: are making it very clear that they want athletes on
- 37:18Speaker 2: the offensive line over road graders like an on win who.
- 37:23Speaker 2: Let's move on to your favorite pick of the draft.
- 37:25Speaker 2: I'm sure yeah, and I think most people's clearly the
- 37:28Speaker 2: player that has the let's call it cleanest path to
- 37:33Speaker 2: contribute right away, easiest path to contribute right away. That's
- 37:37Speaker 2: gay Baccus with the fifty fifth overall pick. In the
- 37:40Speaker 2: second round, they trade up again with the Chargers this time.
- 37:44Speaker 2: I believe it was right Bill's first time Chargers, second
- 37:47Speaker 2: time gay Baccus. I don't know what else to say. Besides,
- 37:51Speaker 2: this guy is just a textbook rable guy. I mean,
- 37:54Speaker 2: he's he's mean, he's physical, he's violent, he can I
- 37:59Speaker 2: think win in enough of a wide variety of ways
- 38:03Speaker 2: in the pass rush. The one thing that I would
- 38:06Speaker 2: kind of ask tru Sierra Mellie at Wolf again, he's
- 38:09Speaker 2: not the speed guy that they said that they were
- 38:11Speaker 2: trying to naget. That's the one thing that I found interesting.
- 38:16Speaker 2: But he overwhelmingly fits the profile and every other way
- 38:20Speaker 2: that I think that's probably why we got here.
- 38:22Speaker 1: I would also rather truth Sierram Meliot Wolf about that
- 38:25Speaker 1: speed rusher comment. Yeah, was that really how they felt
- 38:28Speaker 1: or was that just the smoke screen? Smoke screen, Yeah,
- 38:31Speaker 1: because I remember when he said that at the time,
- 38:33Speaker 1: thinking like they might need a little more than just
- 38:36Speaker 1: like a designated pass rusher speed guy. They might need
- 38:38Speaker 1: a three down guy, which I think achis, if not
- 38:41Speaker 1: could be right now, will be by the end of
- 38:43Speaker 1: the year. You talked about the development of his rush plan.
- 38:47Speaker 1: I think you can see Joe Kim's fingerprints all over that. Yeah,
- 38:51Speaker 1: and that's something that improved a lot from twenty four
- 38:53Speaker 1: to twenty five. A guy that I think can get
- 38:55Speaker 1: to the quarterback but also play the run needs to
- 38:58Speaker 1: be a little more disciplined, but that coachable against the run.
- 39:02Speaker 1: They have had Evan I So at first I'm going
- 39:05Speaker 1: back and looking at this, and I'm like, all right,
- 39:07Speaker 1: they really haven't had a lynchpin pass rusher since they
- 39:10Speaker 1: moved on for Matthew Judon. Yes, that's only two years ago,
- 39:13Speaker 1: but they've been trying to replace him. Harold Landry did
- 39:16Speaker 1: get to eight and a half sacks last year, but
- 39:17Speaker 1: dealt with the injury. Now we don't know. But then
- 39:19Speaker 1: I actually went back and looked a little further. So
- 39:23Speaker 1: Matthew Judon had two double digit sax seasons when he
- 39:25Speaker 1: was here. Joshua Ucha had won. That came because he
- 39:30Speaker 1: was in Parks. He's rushing opposite Matthew Judon, who was
- 39:33Speaker 1: getting an attention. Do you know the last double digit
- 39:35Speaker 1: sax season before Judon Chandler Jones. Chandler Jones. Yeah, in
- 39:39Speaker 1: twenty fifteen. So it's been in some ways. They've spent
- 39:42Speaker 1: the last ten years still trying to replace Chandler Jones,
- 39:45Speaker 1: which is wild to think about. And they did for
- 39:47Speaker 1: a little bit there with Judon. But I don't I
- 39:51Speaker 1: don't think Acis is gonna be like a seventeen or
- 39:53Speaker 1: eighteen sack guy in the season. Can he be a
- 39:57Speaker 1: guy that maybe not in his rookie year, but after
- 39:59Speaker 1: his rookie year, once he get some experience under his belt.
- 40:01Speaker 1: Can he be a guy that reliably gets you like
- 40:04Speaker 1: eleven to thirteen fourteen sacks a year. Yes, and they've
- 40:08Speaker 1: needed that guy. And I think all the Judon comps
- 40:11Speaker 1: are funny. He said himself. He's talked to Judon. He
- 40:13Speaker 1: models the game after jud On, Like if he can
- 40:15Speaker 1: be again, I don't think he's gonna be prime Judon
- 40:18Speaker 1: as a rookie, but over the course of however long
- 40:20Speaker 1: he's here. They got Judon at what age twenty nine? Yeah,
- 40:23Speaker 1: they got him kind of at the peak and on
- 40:25Speaker 1: the downturn. If he can be Matthew Judon here what
- 40:28Speaker 1: Judon was for two years, for five, six, seven, eight years,
- 40:32Speaker 1: that's a hell of a pick. And maybe I don't know,
- 40:35Speaker 1: maybe that's too high of an expectation. That's kind of
- 40:37Speaker 1: where I'm at with him.
- 40:38Speaker 2: I and maybe again maybe Manifest is a rookie, but
- 40:42Speaker 2: sure I see some of the Judon comps in terms
- 40:45Speaker 2: of his pass rush. Yeah, I think he's a lot
- 40:48Speaker 2: heavier of a player, just like in terms of his
- 40:51Speaker 2: play strength and like his.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Power, because I was gonna say, Judn is two sixty
- 40:54Speaker 1: five and.
- 40:54Speaker 2: Judon, like I don't Judon was running the like he
- 40:57Speaker 2: was running the arc right, he was just running around
- 41:00Speaker 2: tackles like I see. Accus is a guy that was
- 41:03Speaker 2: a little bit sturdier and played the run a little
- 41:06Speaker 2: bit better than Matthew Giohon, but didn't have quite the
- 41:10Speaker 2: burst and the bend that Judan does off the edge. Obviously,
- 41:13Speaker 2: his his foundation is power, both in the run in
- 41:16Speaker 2: the past. But he's a bull rusher, you know, like
- 41:18Speaker 2: he's gonna have that foundation. I think that one of
- 41:22Speaker 2: the things. And it's something real quick on that.
- 41:24Speaker 1: Sorry you talked about the toughness thing with and the
- 41:27Speaker 1: anchor thing with Lomu. Yeah, Acus is going to put
- 41:29Speaker 1: him through the gauntlet in training camp.
- 41:31Speaker 2: Right, It's gonna be very important to see Campbell too,
- 41:33Speaker 2: I think yeah, And Draymond Jones is a lunch pale
- 41:36Speaker 2: guy too. I got to bring your hard hat to
- 41:38Speaker 2: that fight. Also. Uh So with Akis, though, I I
- 41:43Speaker 2: feel as though and I myself included, we probably overrate
- 41:49Speaker 2: the like finesse, like twitchy speed guys a little bit
- 41:52Speaker 2: too much. Yeah, because it's just fun to watch, right,
- 41:55Speaker 2: It's fun to watch a guy off the edge that has,
- 41:58Speaker 2: you know, the ability to just completely make a tackle
- 42:00Speaker 2: with you know, in a pass set and he can
- 42:03Speaker 2: go inside out quickly and his bendy and bursty off
- 42:06Speaker 2: the edge. But then you get up into the pros
- 42:08Speaker 2: and like all of the really good pass rushers in
- 42:12Speaker 2: the Pros still can still win with power in some capacity,
- 42:16Speaker 2: and it's it's really only a few guys that win
- 42:19Speaker 2: at a high level. I think the one guy everybody
- 42:21Speaker 2: always points to is like a T. J. Watt who
- 42:23Speaker 2: win at a high level with more finesse, being like
- 42:26Speaker 2: their their number one card that they play. Most guys
- 42:30Speaker 2: win with power first and then compliment power with finesse.
- 42:34Speaker 2: So I think Acus is that kind of guy. He
- 42:36Speaker 2: wins with power. He's going to go right through people
- 42:38Speaker 2: with the bull rush. I think he's got enough of
- 42:41Speaker 2: like an inside move though with some a little bit
- 42:43Speaker 2: of That's where you see the twitch come out a
- 42:45Speaker 2: little bit is with the swim move, especially where like tackles,
- 42:48Speaker 2: they kind of come out to get them because they
- 42:50Speaker 2: want to, you know, close the space between the two
- 42:53Speaker 2: of them to eliminate the bull rush. And then he's
- 42:56Speaker 2: got a little bit of twitch to his game to
- 42:58Speaker 2: jump inside the tackle with an inside move. And then
- 43:01Speaker 2: he does have a little bit of like a rip
- 43:03Speaker 2: move off the edge, so when he gets hands on him,
- 43:07Speaker 2: he can kind of come through and secondary you know,
- 43:09Speaker 2: counter with a rip move and then bend around the corner.
- 43:13Speaker 2: The other thing that I think is really valuable about
- 43:15Speaker 2: his game that needs to be mentioned, he's really effective
- 43:19Speaker 2: on stunts. Yeah, last year the Patriots ran stunts on
- 43:22Speaker 2: their defensive line at the second highest rate in the NFL.
- 43:25Speaker 2: And this is a guy whether it's just classic T
- 43:28Speaker 2: and E you know, tackle end stunts or longer stunts
- 43:30Speaker 2: where there's multiple interior penetrators and he's looping around as
- 43:35Speaker 2: the rap rusher, he's a very effective rap rusher. And
- 43:38Speaker 2: he's got a nice closing gear to him that we
- 43:41Speaker 2: saw with that like four to six whatever it was
- 43:43Speaker 2: in the forty yard dash, So he has that ability
- 43:46Speaker 2: as well that on third down. I'm not sure he's
- 43:49Speaker 2: like a natural speed winner that's gonna be able to
- 43:52Speaker 2: just win one on ones all game long. I'm not
- 43:54Speaker 2: sure that's really going to be a strength of his.
- 43:56Speaker 2: But if you put him in a line that uses
- 43:58Speaker 2: a lot of different pressures, you know, whether they're stunts
- 44:01Speaker 2: or schemed rushes or whatever the case may be, I
- 44:04Speaker 2: think he's got a lot of like feel and timing
- 44:06Speaker 2: to his game to be able to do that.
- 44:08Speaker 1: He's a three year starter, four year starter, right like
- 44:10Speaker 1: he sees it. Well, that also remind me something just
- 44:12Speaker 1: to go back to Loman real quick. Sorry, I forgot
- 44:13Speaker 1: to say this. The thing about him like studying and
- 44:16Speaker 1: trying to get head all that. Yeah, you know what,
- 44:18Speaker 1: he was very good against that at Utah line games.
- 44:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:21Speaker 1: What did they really really struggle with last year on
- 44:24Speaker 1: the offensive line line games? Yeah, So that'll be a
- 44:27Speaker 1: fun But again, Akus is almost like the perfect player
- 44:31Speaker 1: to test a guy like Caleb Blomu and even Will Campbell.
- 44:35Speaker 1: So I'm not saying that, oh great, their second round
- 44:37Speaker 1: picks A good pick. Because he'll push the first round
- 44:40Speaker 1: pick in camp.
- 44:40Speaker 2: But if you draw up the guy, iron sharpens iron.
- 44:45Speaker 1: Right, if you draw up the guy like who's going
- 44:47Speaker 1: to give Lomu the biggest kind of problems, it would
- 44:50Speaker 1: be Gabe Acus. Now the other side of that, And
- 44:54Speaker 1: this goes to something you text me about this I
- 44:55Speaker 1: think was this morning. As much as I'm raving about Akis,
- 44:58Speaker 1: I will say, like, what worries me the most with him?
- 45:02Speaker 1: As is the case with a lot of these power guys,
- 45:04Speaker 1: what is going to happen when he faces the behemoth
- 45:07Speaker 1: tackle that you just can't run through, right, the Trent
- 45:10Speaker 1: Brown type like you, I don't care who you are,
- 45:12Speaker 1: You're not getting through him. And that's where you know,
- 45:15Speaker 1: people knock his quickness. I think he's got a quick
- 45:18Speaker 1: first step where his quickness to music concern is like
- 45:21Speaker 1: his foot like like we talk about with the receiver,
- 45:23Speaker 1: like the change of direction. So they don't really have
- 45:26Speaker 1: one of those guys, Yeah maybe not, No, it's not
- 45:30Speaker 1: really they don't really have one of those jumbo tackles.
- 45:32Speaker 1: I guess lorenz Mets would be as close as they have, right.
- 45:35Speaker 2: So that's going deep on my roster.
- 45:36Speaker 1: I thought I had was like, all right, like him
- 45:38Speaker 1: and Proctor in Miami is gonna be a good battle
- 45:42Speaker 1: that Proctor is gonna play guards. So you you you
- 45:44Speaker 1: were raced out. Who are like the jumbo tackles on
- 45:47Speaker 1: their schedule? Patrick Paul was also on Miami Happy. Yeah,
- 45:51Speaker 1: Patrick Paul's up, there's huge. Would you put on Dawkins
- 45:55Speaker 1: in that category?
- 45:56Speaker 2: He's I mean just good, that's true. Yeah.
- 45:58Speaker 1: I don't know if he's the biggest guy the sewel
- 46:03Speaker 1: I guess, but he's also just good.
- 46:05Speaker 2: Yeah. Suell's not like a huge guy though.
- 46:07Speaker 1: Yeah. They don't just they don't play a lot of
- 46:09Speaker 1: those like true oversized.
- 46:12Speaker 2: No. I mean that's the concern with Akus. You know,
- 46:15Speaker 2: obviously we both like the player, but like if it
- 46:17Speaker 2: doesn't work out or it doesn't hit as high as
- 46:20Speaker 2: we think it might. Uh, the reason why he's going
- 46:22Speaker 2: to be a little bit of stiffness, not a ton
- 46:26Speaker 2: of It's not so much that he doesn't have that
- 46:28Speaker 2: first step. It's more like the second and third step.
- 46:30Speaker 2: He doesn't like gain speed around the arc. He's not
- 46:33Speaker 2: the bendiest of players. He's a little bit rigid. He's
- 46:36Speaker 2: a little bit stiff in his movement and that you know,
- 46:38Speaker 2: if the power doesn't fully translate from the college to
- 46:43Speaker 2: the pros against the grown man up here in the pros,
- 46:46Speaker 2: then there might not be as much pass rush juice
- 46:50Speaker 2: as you'd want. I still think he's gonna be a
- 46:53Speaker 2: perfectly fine first and second down player, yeah, you know,
- 46:55Speaker 2: but in terms of the third down double digit sacks
- 46:59Speaker 2: like that sort of thing, if the power doesn't translate
- 47:02Speaker 2: to him being you know, not to put him on
- 47:04Speaker 2: this pedestal. But like the one guy that I can
- 47:06Speaker 2: think of off the top of my head that it just
- 47:08Speaker 2: translated and he's a stud is Jared Verse, right, But
- 47:11Speaker 2: Jared Verse has Jared Verse quicker and Jared very well
- 47:15Speaker 2: that you know, he was the first round pick and
- 47:16Speaker 2: he's a stud. But Jared versus power translated like that
- 47:20Speaker 2: directly translated to the league act is to be hit
- 47:24Speaker 2: his ceiling as a pro, he's gonna have to be
- 47:27Speaker 2: as stronger than everybody up here too, which is gonna
- 47:30Speaker 2: be a little bit harder. That's just that's the bottom line.
- 47:33Speaker 2: You know, I was watching him even against some you know,
- 47:35Speaker 2: some of the blocks that he went up against against
- 47:38Speaker 2: tight ends, will Kes, Merrick the guy the Dolphins drafted
- 47:41Speaker 2: in the third round. He kind of pants him a
- 47:44Speaker 2: couple of times, like, you're not gonna be able to
- 47:46Speaker 2: block this guy with the tight end regularly, right unless
- 47:48Speaker 2: your tight end is like Gronk, you know, like unless
- 47:50Speaker 2: it's like a really good blocking tight end. If it's
- 47:53Speaker 2: a regular run of the middle tight end, like good luck,
- 47:56Speaker 2: which is good.
- 47:58Speaker 1: He's one of the guys you talk about the play strength,
- 47:59Speaker 1: like they talked a lot about and Wolf made a
- 48:02Speaker 1: point of saying, like Weman needs to get in the
- 48:04Speaker 1: weight room, put on mass, Rareden needs to get in
- 48:06Speaker 1: the weight room, put on mass.
- 48:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I think.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Gabe Jacks physically is probably That's not to say he
- 48:11Speaker 1: can't get bigger, but he's probably NFL ready physically.
- 48:14Speaker 2: Oh yeah, That's why I think he has the best
- 48:16Speaker 2: chance to contribute right away, along with the depth chart
- 48:19Speaker 2: obviously at the position. I truly believe in, you know,
- 48:23Speaker 2: just my last thing on Akis and then we should
- 48:25Speaker 2: move on. I truly believe Akis is gonna start putting
- 48:28Speaker 2: pushing Harold Landry early, like maybe even out of the gate.
- 48:33Speaker 2: Like this might be something in training camp where we
- 48:35Speaker 2: watch these these edge rushers Draymond Jones is gonna play.
- 48:38Speaker 2: We know that, but we might start watching these guys
- 48:41Speaker 2: and say, the second best guy on the team at
- 48:43Speaker 2: that spot is is Acus already oh yeah, and he
- 48:46Speaker 2: might have to play over a guy like Harold Landry
- 48:49Speaker 2: h eli Arden next pick here in the third round,
- 48:52Speaker 2: ninety fifth overall, a guy even more so than Lomu.
- 48:57Speaker 2: In some ways, I think we can or else speak
- 49:00Speaker 2: for myself. I think I could honestly say I was
- 49:02Speaker 2: not going to get Lomu, like I just it wasn't
- 49:05Speaker 2: my guy, the left tackle, thing, all of it, just
- 49:07Speaker 2: the whole combination where I thought he was gonna go.
- 49:10Speaker 2: I just don't think I was ever gonna end with
- 49:13Speaker 2: him on any of my big boards. Rared In I'm
- 49:19Speaker 2: kicking myself over because I watched him and the two
- 49:23Speaker 2: things that I really liked about him were his ability
- 49:26Speaker 2: to stretch the field vertically from inside the numbers and
- 49:30Speaker 2: those giant ten and seven five ten and three quarters
- 49:34Speaker 2: inch hands with the catch radius and the size, and
- 49:39Speaker 2: I was like, this is a perfect drake may tight
- 49:42Speaker 2: end like a guy that has that a seventieth percentile
- 49:45Speaker 2: catch radius, gigantic hans and four six speed to get
- 49:49Speaker 2: up the field. He is a true like deep threat
- 49:53Speaker 2: tight end that exists right like that, that's really what
- 49:57Speaker 2: he is. Like he had eight catches on deep ball
- 50:00Speaker 2: last year. He catches on passes over twenty yards in
- 50:03Speaker 2: the air, he was eight for eight. He got all
- 50:05Speaker 2: eight of his targets on throws down the field last year.
- 50:08Speaker 2: That led to class he is a true seam stretcher
- 50:12Speaker 2: at that position. It fits Drake May perfectly. I'm not
- 50:16Speaker 2: really overly concerned about the knee because he played twenty
- 50:20Speaker 2: eight straight games at Notre Dame and without the injury. Like,
- 50:23Speaker 2: if we want to hold it against him that his
- 50:24Speaker 2: senior year of high school, in his freshman year at
- 50:27Speaker 2: college he had the ACL I mean that was multiple
- 50:31Speaker 2: years ago. I think the second one was in twenty
- 50:33Speaker 2: twenty twenty two.
- 50:34Speaker 1: Well, he missed some time in twenty three coming back
- 50:37Speaker 1: from it. That would be more where I'm at with
- 50:40Speaker 1: it is not oh and like, look we'll be every
- 50:43Speaker 1: time he gets hit, we'll be wincing a little bit.
- 50:45Speaker 1: I think that's just the reality of it. Yeah, it's
- 50:48Speaker 1: less that, Okay, I'm worried about him getting hurt again
- 50:52Speaker 1: and more that like he lost two really important developmental years. Yes,
- 50:58Speaker 1: and so you know he's already twenty two, just turned
- 51:02Speaker 1: twenty two in February, and he's maybe a little behind
- 51:05Speaker 1: developmentally where you'd want to player that age taken in
- 51:08Speaker 1: that spot to be. That's more how the injuries hurt
- 51:11Speaker 1: him in the draft because he just hasn't played as
- 51:13Speaker 1: much football as you would expect, like he's a projection pick.
- 51:15Speaker 1: He only is the one year really a production. Now,
- 51:18Speaker 1: it was a good year. It was a really good year.
- 51:20Speaker 2: I was gonna say, to be fair to him, his
- 51:22Speaker 2: peak season was on par with the other tight ends
- 51:25Speaker 2: peak season, right, but it was only one. It was
- 51:27Speaker 2: only one. He doesn't have the career production. Like we
- 51:30Speaker 2: held the career production against Oscar Delp, and Delp still
- 51:33Speaker 2: had way more career production. But Raredan's draft eligible season
- 51:40Speaker 2: still topped Oscar Delp's season.
- 51:43Speaker 1: Last year significantly. But I think he had won three
- 51:45Speaker 1: catches before last year's.
- 51:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it wasn't a lot, and he has He only
- 51:49Speaker 2: has three career touchdowns too, He had zero, sorry.
- 51:51Speaker 1: He had sixteen total before last year.
- 51:53Speaker 2: He had zero touchdowns last year too, thirty two catches,
- 51:57Speaker 2: zero tds. So I would have liked to have seen
- 52:00Speaker 2: maybe a little bit more of a red zone presence.
- 52:03Speaker 2: Maybe it was more Notre Dame's problem than it was
- 52:05Speaker 2: Eli Rariden's problem.
- 52:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean when you have those running backs, you know,
- 52:08Speaker 1: they did the red zone.
- 52:11Speaker 2: The other thing that I, you know, had sort of
- 52:13Speaker 2: questioned with him was not necessarily upside as a blocker,
- 52:17Speaker 2: because I think the upside is there. Yeah, Uh, the
- 52:20Speaker 2: effort wasn't always there, I would say politely, you know,
- 52:24Speaker 2: there were moments where I thought I was asking for
- 52:28Speaker 2: a little bit more in terms of some of the
- 52:31Speaker 2: same stuff that we talked about with Lomu. Honestly, you know,
- 52:33Speaker 2: like effort, grit, nasty, you know, not really that kind
- 52:38Speaker 2: of blocker. But when he gets some momentum into his
- 52:42Speaker 2: blocks and he's able to move his feet a little
- 52:44Speaker 2: bit into generate power, I actually think that he he
- 52:47Speaker 2: creates some movement, especially on down blocks inserts. They would
- 52:52Speaker 2: insert him a lot, and they have him lead up
- 52:53Speaker 2: to the second level coming off the wing. He was
- 52:56Speaker 2: pretty effective at that. He can kick out a little bit.
- 52:59Speaker 2: I just wouldn't really expect him to stand in there
- 53:02Speaker 2: against a defensive end or a pat you know, a
- 53:05Speaker 2: edge rusher and just dig him out, you know, Like,
- 53:08Speaker 2: I don't think that that's necessarily gonna be his game,
- 53:11Speaker 2: but with the receiving upside, I think he has enough
- 53:14Speaker 2: blocking chops yeap. I also really like that he has
- 53:17Speaker 2: a complimentary skill set to what they currently have, so
- 53:21Speaker 2: twenty six, like this is definitely more of a pick
- 53:23Speaker 2: for twenty twenty seven and beyond developing him behind Hunter Henry,
- 53:27Speaker 2: he can make an impact this year. I think he
- 53:28Speaker 2: can too, because Henry's your chain move. He's like a steady,
- 53:32Speaker 2: chain moving tight end. Julian Hill is a blocking specialist.
- 53:36Speaker 2: Rareden brings a vertical element that the other two guys
- 53:39Speaker 2: just don't have, and and Henry might have had it
- 53:41Speaker 2: at one point in time, but he's thirty one, thirty
- 53:43Speaker 2: two years old.
- 53:44Speaker 1: I also think just rared in his ability to block
- 53:46Speaker 1: like they should, he's he's a better blocker Noutin Hooper.
- 53:50Speaker 2: He might be, so I think we'll see if it translates.
- 53:53Speaker 2: Austin Hooper was an okay block.
- 53:54Speaker 1: They should be able to run twelve more reliably. Oh
- 53:58Speaker 1: that was it, I'll say, when we get that's the hope.
- 54:00Speaker 1: Another idea for them, But that's the same gets crown over. Yeah, No,
- 54:03Speaker 1: I think he can be a well rounded, well rounded player.
- 54:06Speaker 2: The hope is is that last year when they played
- 54:10Speaker 2: two tight ends or more on the on the field,
- 54:13Speaker 2: I want to say they were twenty sixth in rush EPA. Now,
- 54:16Speaker 2: their passing numbers were still great, but their passing numbers
- 54:19Speaker 2: were great against everybody you know in the regular season.
- 54:22Speaker 2: So their ability to run the football out of those
- 54:26Speaker 2: heavy personnel groupings was not good enough to get defenses
- 54:30Speaker 2: into binds with it in terms of personnel matching. So
- 54:34Speaker 2: then once you got and played the better defenses in
- 54:36Speaker 2: the playoffs, now the twelve personnel package or the full
- 54:39Speaker 2: back or whatever it was, it was a waste, right,
- 54:41Speaker 2: It just didn't do move the needle at all. With
- 54:45Speaker 2: Hill's ability to block, Henry's reliability and just comfort level
- 54:49Speaker 2: with Drake May and now a guy like Raridan who
- 54:52Speaker 2: isn't a nothing blocker. He can block a little bit
- 54:55Speaker 2: and he can stretch the field vertically, I think you
- 54:58Speaker 2: have a group that is like maybe even capable of
- 55:01Speaker 2: all three guys being on the field in certain packages,
- 55:03Speaker 2: which is fun. Yeah. So I think they have enough
- 55:05Speaker 2: complimentary skill sets in that respect that all these guys
- 55:08Speaker 2: can kind of play together, which I think will be
- 55:11Speaker 2: really cool. Maybe that gives reared In a little bit
- 55:14Speaker 2: of a faster path to contributing in twenty six because
- 55:17Speaker 2: most of the time rookie tight ends, especially ones that
- 55:19Speaker 2: aren't drafted super high. Yeah, you're talking about a developmental current. Yeah, no,
- 55:23Speaker 2: he's They're still gonna have to ease him in, but
- 55:25Speaker 2: I think he can. He'll be what did so Hooper
- 55:28Speaker 2: last year? At the start a year was on the
- 55:30Speaker 2: field like fifty percent of the time. Yeah, and then
- 55:32Speaker 2: the second half of the year that got cut to
- 55:33Speaker 2: like the high thirties. Yeah, I mean like a thirty
- 55:37Speaker 2: five to forty percent usage rate for rared in assuming
- 55:39Speaker 2: everybody's healthy.
- 55:40Speaker 1: That just that feel it feels about right to me. Yeah,
- 55:43Speaker 1: I think that's unrealistic.
- 55:44Speaker 2: I think the question for him is, you know, what
- 55:48Speaker 2: was the reason for the fact that he wasn't a
- 55:50Speaker 2: big red zone factor, because that's an obvious way for
- 55:53Speaker 2: you to get on the field. Now, maybe he was
- 55:55Speaker 2: just blocking the whole time because they ran the ball
- 55:57Speaker 2: so much with those backs, but in general, you know,
- 56:00Speaker 2: you look at a tight end who's six six two
- 56:02Speaker 2: forty five with that kind of wingspan in those hands
- 56:05Speaker 2: and that athleticism and movement skill, you would expect him
- 56:09Speaker 2: to be like a huge mismatch down there, right, and
- 56:11Speaker 2: it didn't really feature him in that way. So that
- 56:14Speaker 2: would be another area of his game that if it's
- 56:16Speaker 2: either untapped or needs development, maybe that could get him
- 56:21Speaker 2: on the field quicker too, you know, if he is
- 56:23Speaker 2: able to develop in the red zone. So exciting pick. Like,
- 56:26Speaker 2: I really liked him when I watched him initially, I
- 56:28Speaker 2: wish I had him on. I was kicking myself about that.
- 56:31Speaker 2: He's got a lot of things that I think translate
- 56:34Speaker 2: really well to Drake. May you know this is not
- 56:37Speaker 2: a he doesn't necessarily have that underneath separation quickness Like
- 56:41Speaker 2: he's not He's not a change of direction guy. He's
- 56:44Speaker 2: a straight line athlete. But Drake Maylex thrown to those
- 56:47Speaker 2: kinds of guys, big target, fast. I really like him.
- 56:50Speaker 2: Let's do one more and then we'll take a break.
- 56:53Speaker 2: Big gap almost one hundred picks, eighty picks. Karon Prunty
- 56:58Speaker 2: from Wake Forest, I'll give you flowers. You mentioned him
- 57:02Speaker 2: on the show My Fires. He won't give me the
- 57:03Speaker 2: retweet I didn't give you. You wouldn't share your own
- 57:08Speaker 2: show talking about it. Guy they had in for a visit,
- 57:13Speaker 2: A guy that I did a couple of minutes of
- 57:15Speaker 2: homework gone because they had him in for a visit,
- 57:17Speaker 2: and I tried to know all those guys you mentioned Safety, like,
- 57:21Speaker 2: I maybe they developed him at Corner. I just look
- 57:24Speaker 2: at him as length his physicality. I think his best
- 57:27Speaker 2: trait might be his ability to blitz. He has a
- 57:29Speaker 2: couple of really good blitzes on the tape that I
- 57:31Speaker 2: watched of him coming off the short side. I maybe
- 57:36Speaker 2: safety is in the future. Maybe Corner. Obviously he's here
- 57:39Speaker 2: to cover kicks like that. That's number one. At Corner.
- 57:42Speaker 2: I thought he was a little, not a little, a
- 57:45Speaker 2: lot raw, you know, very like green player, more than
- 57:48Speaker 2: I would have liked. But okay, you know some of
- 57:52Speaker 2: the things that stood out to me. He gets a
- 57:53Speaker 2: little high in his pedal and a little bit off
- 57:56Speaker 2: balance at the top, which kind of leads to lags.
- 57:58Speaker 2: So like when guys change directions on him, he kind
- 58:01Speaker 2: of has to gather and you know, get his feet
- 58:04Speaker 2: underneath them and change directions, and that puts him behind.
- 58:07Speaker 2: He also bit a ton on double moves, Like every
- 58:10Speaker 2: single time a guy hit him with like a stutter
- 58:12Speaker 2: or a fake. He was biting on it. So there's
- 58:15Speaker 2: some little technique things, nuances, route anticipations, things like that.
- 58:20Speaker 2: But he's long, he's got some speed, it has some
- 58:22Speaker 2: ball skills. He made some plays on the football at
- 58:25Speaker 2: Wake Forest and even before that, so he's got some traits.
- 58:30Speaker 2: I think number one is obviously covering kicks and playing
- 58:34Speaker 2: in special teams, But where do you see his upside
- 58:36Speaker 2: on defense?
- 58:38Speaker 1: I mean, he's the kind of guy like if they
- 58:40Speaker 1: you know, when they were turning anybody and everybody into
- 58:42Speaker 1: a starting caliber cornerback back in the day, you get
- 58:45Speaker 1: a guy with these physical tools and we'd be like, oh, yeah,
- 58:47Speaker 1: he's the next one, right, new coaching staff not saying
- 58:50Speaker 1: they can't do it, but we just haven't seen it.
- 58:52Speaker 2: You know.
- 58:52Speaker 1: If you're gonna bet on traits, good traits to bet on.
- 58:55Speaker 1: I was definitely surprised they took him as high as
- 58:57Speaker 1: they did, but that's kind of your textbook day three pick. Yeah,
- 59:00Speaker 1: I see him coming in right away, playing a pretty
- 59:04Speaker 1: significant role on special teams. Then we'll see where he's
- 59:06Speaker 1: at at corner. Right. Can he compete with Kendallvilldor and
- 59:12Speaker 1: Charles Woods and Kobe Minor for the third fourth boundary
- 59:16Speaker 1: corner spot. Yeah yeah, I mean he'll be in the
- 59:18Speaker 1: mix there. His path to the roster will be, well,
- 59:21Speaker 1: he's gonna make teams a fifth round pick, but like
- 59:23Speaker 1: he'll be playing special teams, and then it's just can
- 59:26Speaker 1: he develop at corner. Can he kind of hone the
- 59:28Speaker 1: technical side of it enough that he pushes for that
- 59:31Speaker 1: third or fourth boundary corner spot, and you know, can
- 59:33Speaker 1: he get there within the next couple of years. Ago
- 59:35Speaker 1: four years to work with him. He's a little bit
- 59:36Speaker 1: of an older guy, but that's kind of where I'm
- 59:39Speaker 1: at with him. Definitely special teams, core core, core, special teamer,
- 59:42Speaker 1: and then we'll see what he gives him On defense.
- 59:43Speaker 1: I like the safety thing, but Ryan Cowden kind of
- 59:45Speaker 1: shot it down. He did.
- 59:47Speaker 2: I think what's funny about him is that he had
- 59:50Speaker 2: some really high level reps both in press and off coverage.
- 59:53Speaker 2: He's got a pretty good trigger out of his penulticum
- 59:57Speaker 2: drive the ball from off coverage. I thought he had
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: some good pass breakups in press coverage too, but it's
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: just wildly inconsistent with him right now. He's either in
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: the guy's hip pocket or he's getting burned and there's
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: no in between. So maybe you know there's some upside
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: there if he kind of rounds out his game and
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: gets a little bit more consistency. I think that's the
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: number one thing at a lot of positions, but especially
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: at corner. Consistency is always the key, right, Like you
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: can't have these huge peaks and valleys where one player
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: in the guy's you know, sweater than the next play
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: you're getting burned. Like you can't play like that, so
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: you have more consistency there. Let's do one more and
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: then we'll take a break. I lie because this next
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: one's maybe my favorite pick of the entire draft, and
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: that's Demetrius crown Over from Texas A and M. I
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: just thought that it was weird to me Ales had
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: when we started this process in February. This was a
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: fringe top one hundred prospect. Yeah, and then he fell
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: to one ninety six in the sixth round by the Patriots,
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: and no one really had a great reason for it.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: Older older prospect tackle tight end to tackle conversion maybe
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: a little bit raw for that age, I think is
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: probably the biggest thing. You know, he's got a lot
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: to work on and he's an older guy, so maybe
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: that coupled with the fact that he only really played
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: on the right side. Like that, those are the only
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: reasons I've heard. I haven't heard anything, you know, nefarious
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: or anything like that as to why he dropped from
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: really you know, when we started doing this in February,
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: I was like putting him on preliminary lists of top
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: one hundred guys, right, and then he falls all the
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: way to the sixth round. I love this. This is
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: the exact kind of guy that I would always pound
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: the table for taking in the sixth round. Tons of traits,
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: tons of upside. Get him to Doug Morone and have
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: him coach him up and see what happens. Like it's
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: not gonna happen right away. There's a lot of developmental
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: curve there. But even just the measurables like six six
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: three seventeen thirty five plus inch arms like these are
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: the types of guys you want to take flyers on
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: in the sixth round. Like this is exactly to me
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: what the end of the draft is about.
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: No, it's a great pick, and I just don't think
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: you can have enough tackle depth. This is a guy
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: that can play both tackle spots. You know, again has
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: the athleticism to do that. They'll get him there. He
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: mentioned he's been training at left tackle on the draft,
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: kind of knowing he might be asked to be a
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: swing tackle. You mentioned the ceiling of potential top one
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: hundred pick. I just go back to Evan, how many
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: times do we make the joke the last couple years?
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: That a lot, as long as we'd covered the team,
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: tackles always conversation. Yeah, not only do I think this
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: is the best spot they've been in a tackle since
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: they covered the team. Dare I say it? It might be
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: the first time we've said it on the show, and
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: the first time either one of us has said it professionally.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: I feel good about where they're out of tackle between
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: Will Campbell, you know, Will Campbell and Morgan Moses this year,
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: that's your immediate with Caleb Blomu as your swing, and
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: then in the long term Campbell and Lomu with crownovers
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: your swing. If Lomu like hits that starting caliber ceiling
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: we think he can hit. I feel pretty good about that.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: That's a good place to be in and they may
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: be set a tackle for the next three to five
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: years at least. So this pick just you know, it's
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: not just because this pick. The LOWO picks a part
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: of that too, but this pick absolutely helps reinforce it.
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: It was my favorite pick of the draft because I
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: thought they had this big gap in the top one hundred.
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: Then they took Prunty, who I thought was kind of
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: a reach where they took him frankly, and they came
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: back and they pulled me right back in with this
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: is one of those things, all right, this is this
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: is one of those guys that this is who you
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: pick in the sixth round.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: I feel like we do this every year with like
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: two of their picks. If they had taken crown Over
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: at one seventy one and then, yeah, nobody really looked
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: twice at it. Yeah, so it's just kind of a
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: weird thing.
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: Do have a take on the consensus board nonsense.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: Already sucking. I think they're helpful leading up to the
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: draft to kind of visualize it, But teams don't go
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: off the consensus board. They have their own board, and
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: the thing you have to rememory.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: Grading off the consensus board. But it's good to fodder
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: to start.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: With, right, Good fodder is a good way to put it. Yeah,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: because especially in this draft, with how weird this draft was,
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: it was weird. I know for a fact talking to people,
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: there was one player in this draft at least. I
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: mean there might have been multiple, but I know there
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: was one player in this draft that some teams had
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: graded as high as the second round, some teams had
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: graded as low as the sixth. So that shows up
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: is what a fourth round pick on the consensus if
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: you were to average that out right, So if he
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: goes in the second, it's like, oh my god, they
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: overdrafted him. If he goes in the sixth, it's like,
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: oh my god, what a steal. He went in the fourth. Yeah,
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: like or I actually forget where he actually went, but like,
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: if he goes in the fourth, it's like, oh, he's
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: on the consensus. So that's just like, it's not a
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: it's not a perfect tool. It's helpful going into it.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: And yes, I'm the I'm mister respect to the board guy.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: And if you were doing a mock draft and to
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: crown over in the sixth, I say that's kind of nuts.
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna sit here today and say it's kind of nuts.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: The Patriots got him in the sixth round and to
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: see that one coming. So it's a useful tool going in.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: But I don't yeah, I'm not. I don't think you
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: necessarily grade off of it, especially as you look at
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: you know, what else happened at the position in the draft?
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: Did information come out late about him? With the information
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: we didn't know? I always go back to what was
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: his name the Eagles draft, Nolan Smith. We all thought
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: Nolan Smith was the first round pick, no doubt, no doubt,
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: Nolan Smith.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: Was the first round pick. You mean the Georgia linebacker,
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: not Nolan Smith. I know whom I thinking of the
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: other guy? It's on the tip of my tongue, and
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: I said.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: Nolan Smith.
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: Nolan Smith also on the Eagles. But you're thinking about
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: the linebacker that fell, yeah, a couple of years ago,
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: also from Georgia.
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: No, it was Nolan Smith. No, it was Nolan Smith
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: went in the first round. You're right, Who was it?
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: Kobe Dean?
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: Kobe Dean.
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: Wow, that was already like five years ago.
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: My god, remember that. I don't know it was it
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: was literally I could see him, I could It was.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: Like Kobe Dean was no question, first round pick. Something
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: thought he was the best linebacker in the draft. He
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: starts falling in up the eighty third. It was like,
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: what the hell happened? And then it gets reported after
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: the pick he had a older injury, like he was
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: refusing to get surgery on it or something. There's like
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: a weird thing in there about shoulder injury that wasn't
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: being handled right. The consensus sport doesn't account for that
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: because we, or at least the vast majority of people
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: don't know. So there was somebody I remember the Cold
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: Strange here, one guy on had Cole Strange in the
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: first round, and that was factoring in the consensus board.
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: So I think it goes to various degrees. But here's
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: my other thing about about Crownover. Before we move on
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: sneaky fun, nobody but else is gonna care a position
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: battle and camp Jumbo tackle jumbo tackle low Mover's crown Over.
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: And then I have an even even add on to
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: this table. Right, the Lowmu's the higher pick. Here's my
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: one B. Do we get a formation both of them?
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: You put crown Over next to Moses, You put Lomu
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: next to Campbell with Gilliam and Stevenson. You make mac
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: Hollins the wide receiver. You're ready, Here's what we're gonna
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: call it. We're called the Henderson package. You know why No,
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: because they're just gonna snowplow their way down the field.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: Shout out Mark Anderson.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: But they have it, doesn't Travion obviously throws that off
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: like they have a trade. They have a Henderson on
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: the team.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: Oh, I forgot about that. So that's not you know,
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: because original I was gonna call the Originally I thought bulldozer.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: Packaged, but that was what about snowplow?
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: That's disrespecting Blake Bell's snowplow. But then I patriot to
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: fight it.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: But I mean, this is New England, this is Massachusetts.
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: It's snows.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: But if I say Patriots and snowplow, there's a certain
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: thing that comes to mind.
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: I know it's hanging in the team Hall of Fame, okay,
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: but that that it's going to confuse the No, I
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: forgot about that. Yeah, wait, why why is this about Trevion?
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: He's not even on the I did I did forget
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: about that? Yeah, so maybe we called the snow your
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: thoughts on the snowplow pack?
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: I love it? Yeah, I mean, you know, I'm all
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: four point and that kind of I want to see.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: I want to see that. Put both of them out there,
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: make them both eligible.
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: So they did that a little bit last year with
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: defensive players like Tonga and Milton Williams were on the field,
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: like for the Tushwin.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: Oh that's right, yeah, that's like one time.
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: Yeah, but like they they had that package in their
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: back pocket.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: I'm talking.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: Defensive players this time. Crown Over used to be a
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: tight end.
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: So he's not right, like very low kind of touchdown, right,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: you have at least be aware of him. Lomu's athletic.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: You know, he's got that Nate Solder vibe to him
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: a little bit. He does crown Over well, So I
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: guess who do you put on which side? Crown Over
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: and Lomu.
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: Oh if you're trying to like put all the run
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: blockers on one side and you'd put crown Over.
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: To Moses, I guess it would depend to which side
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: do you have Mac Collins on? But yeah, this is
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: the this is the I want to see them run
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: this package.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: It's interesting the Nate Solder comp for Lomu, I think
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: works in terms of play style, play demeanor great athlete.
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: Soldier is a lot taller, you know, like that's the
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: big difference, like that much taller tolder soldiers like six
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: nine soldiers six nine. Yeah, oh yeah, solder solders a
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: lot six.
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: There's not that many people get it that much. Yeah
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: older six nine Yeah, So that I is it crap?
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: Maybe not from a full measurement standpoint. Are they a
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: great comparison? But both great athletes, both not necessarily glass eaters,
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: you know, Like right, I think there is a little
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: bit of Nate solar. All right, we gotta take a break.
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: I see your calls lined up. We have four more

- 1:13:11Speaker 2: going to get to the phones. Here in a minute.
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: Uh Namdi Obiazor from TC, the two hundred and twelfth
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: pick in the draft. I remember watching and thinking, okay,
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: the the other linebacker that the gods got not you know,
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: let's mental note, right, this happens where you're watching the
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: main guy and then the secondary guy is the one
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: that the team ends up with. I liked him a
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: little bit. I think the one thing that you know,
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: you point out is obviously, you know, two hundred and
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: twenty nine pounds, so he's not a big dude. He's
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: also pretty sot off, you know, in terms of arm length.
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: He's he's got short arms and he's not very tall
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: or you know, or I should say short arms, and
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: he's not very thick, right, he's not. He doesn't have
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: a lot of mass on his frame. But I did
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: like his motor. I did like his hustle, his his speed,
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: straight line speed, and he's got a little bit of that,
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: like flexibility to scrape and bend underneath blocks and elude
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: blockers and slip blockers in the trenches. I just wish
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: he was a little bit longer, h you know, in
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: terms of his length, so that he could kind of
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: get into passing lanes, a little bit more cast, a
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: little bit of a wider net tackling, you know, like
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: all those good stuff that comes with long arms. That's
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: my guess is why he's a you know, six round
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: pick and not a top one hundred type of pick.
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: But I thought there was a little bit of athleticism
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: there and a little bit of you know, uh, scraping
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: lateral quickness, that type of stuff. Another guy that probably
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: will play a lot on special teams.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: Kind of reminds me of marked him off a little
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: bit a little bit, knows Nate, and I wonder if
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: kind of that same that same path is in store
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: for him, course special teamer mix in a little bit
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: at linebacker. It's gonna be interesting between him. I mean,
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: he's gonna probably make the h I guess two twelve,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: but like, yeah, between him, kJ Britt Chad Muma. If
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: they signed one of these linebackers they brought into rookie
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: mini camp, like that's a battle in camp for the
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: third guy behind Obviously Robert Splaynon and christ Nellis is
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: still your second linebacker at this point. But I know
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: you said earlier, maybe they signed win a free agency
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: it's gonna be interesting. To see how that all that
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: all pans out. I think that's an open competition between
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: all those guys.
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: Yeah, but I think you know that if you're projecting
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: him to play a little bit on defense, Uh, he's
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: got to improve his off the ball reads and reactions.
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: Like there's some times where like the ball's going left
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: and he's going round.
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: It was also just the size too. I think like
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: he's got six three twenty nine is gonna be tough
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: to really gown.
- 1:15:38Speaker 8: For.
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: But then you lose the athleticism or is he just
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: a is he just a third down player? Is he
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: just a blitzer and coverage guy and that's his role?
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: Yeah? Maybe? Uh. Next that two thirty four Baron Morton
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: from Texas Tech, the quarterback. I think we all kind
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: of expected them to be on a quarterback at some point,
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: whether it was a late round draft pick or an
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: undrafted rookie.
- 1:16:00Speaker 10: Uh.
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: They take more in seventh, seventh round, two hundred and
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: thirty fourth overall, so late in the draft.
- 1:16:06Speaker 7: Uh.
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: Little Bailey Zappy? Is that is that incorrect? I kind
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: of saw a little bit of Bailey ZAPPI like he's
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: a little nimble, he's a little jitterbug. Back there. He's
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: got some arm elasticity.
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: Yeah, the kid can change the can change.
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: The arm angles and everything doesn't have the biggest arm.
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: So, okay, this is where I'm gonna cut you off
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: because this is what fascinates me about this pick. Here's
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: you're all say for everbody, Oh, they should take a
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: nus Meyer who was still there. Nus Myer's boring as hell. Yeah,
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: it doesn't mean he's bad, he's just boring. I know
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: exactly what he is. I know exactly what he will be.
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: There's no and like the fact he went in the
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: seventh round, that's just he's gonna be a third quarterback
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: for the rest of his career, will make a lot
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: of money. Good for him. Congratulations. When you're taking a
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: quarterback late, I don't want boring. I want a little
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: something that maybe there's some some unknown Joe Milton. So
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: Joe Milton's the apex of this. They'll never be another
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: Joe mill First off, Taylor Green very interesting. Joe the Browns,
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: which is.
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: So Tailor and Green.
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: He start games there this year, so Browns, it's very Browns. Yeah,
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: here's what interests me about Baron Morton, the big knock
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: you see on him is arm strength. We have to
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: keep in mind he played two full seasons with a
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: sprained ac joint in his right shoulder. Why he did that,
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: I don't know. Very tough guy. Fought through it, but
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: he was dealing with that. Finally gets the surgery after
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: twenty four to fix it, comes back in twenty five and,
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: like Earlish in the season, suffers a hairline fracture in
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: his right leg. That's your push leg. You generate power
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: from there. Yeah, and then playing through that again. Why
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: did he do it? Don't know. I wanted to put
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: the team on his back, right, tough guy. They went
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: eleven to zero with him. Startles, hiss nails. Right, this
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: is vrable guy. But so we're talking shoulder joint, we're
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: talking push leg. That affects how hard you throw the football.
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: I don't know that he can't. Like in the few
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: games where he's healthy, you can see there's significantly more
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: zip on the ball. There's just not enough of a
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: sample size to say definitively I feel good about it.
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: So I don't know.
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: Maybe he's I think he's got more arm strength than Zappy.
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: Maybe maybe there's nothing to it, and I'm overrating this.
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: But if he goes out and balls out in the
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: preseason and you trade him and you turn a seventh
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: into a six, yeah, great, awesome, great use of that pick.
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: And then you know, just like with Milton again, that
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: same thing. So he's not I don't want to compare
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: him to Joe Milton because he's not. Nobody is. Drew
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: Aller went entirely too high. Oh, if you liked Joe Milton,
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: wouldn't you like Drew Aller. I'd like Daler would be fine.
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: It to forty five. I'm not taking Drew Roalary seventy
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: six like the Steelers did. But I'm fascinated by the
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: idea that this guy played through significant injuries for basically
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: the entirety of three years still led Texas Tech to
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: the playoff, which, by the way, I have not mentioned
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: after you dumped on them that one time, and like,
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: let me say, let me see what happens. I am
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: interested in this. This is an interesting pick. This is
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: such a you pick to be interested in it. You
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: don't think there's some sort of something like this guy
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: for three years. You don't want to see what happens.
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: On the other side, there's some gamer mentality in there,
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: and I do think that there's.
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: It's not just gamer mentality, it's literal physical ability. How
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: much was he held back physically about.
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: The countries fair enough? And I also think that there's
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: you know, what I liked most about him was that
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: he's got some nimbleness, Like he can move around a
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: little bit. He's not drake man, He's not a runner.
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: I think he had like negative because in college, a
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: sack counts his negative rushing arts. He had like negative.
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: He can move around in the pocket, he evades rushers. Yeah,
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: he's got that pocket awareness and the nimble is a
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: good word for it.
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: To him. He's not super accurate. I wouldn't say he's
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: more generally accurate, Like I don't think. I think the
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: difference between him and Bailey Zappi is I think Morton's
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: got a little bit more physical talent than Zapi did.
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: Zappi was a little bit more active.
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: Weird thing with Morton is I think he throws with
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: good anticipation, which usually goes hand in hand with accuracy. Yeah,
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: but it doesn't with him. Yeah, he throws his good anticipation.
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: You can see what he's trying to do. But the
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: ball doesn't always get there.
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: Yeah, he's like one of those quarterbacks that's like, that's
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: a catchable ball, but it's not really. It's in the
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: outside shoulder instead of the inside shoulder. It's a little
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: low or it's a little high. Yeah, but technically it's catchable.
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: Real quick.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: After they had all these players drafted and went to
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: college football playoff, will you admit Texas Tech is legit?
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: Now? Listen, It's not my fault that Indiana and Texas Tech,
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: but I and all these schools that we grew up
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: be thinking Indiana was nothing.
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: Indiana was nothing. Texas had some good years.
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: Indiana is a basketball school. Yeah, you can't compare Indiana
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: to Texas. Texas Tech was was the little brother.
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: It's like brother, but they had the Michael Kraft, Tree,
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: Graham Harrold teams were good.
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: Yam Holmes, I guess, but do you want to like, yeah,
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: I can see the backstory. Is I try to explain,
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: but also like Bailey gets drafted, Yeah, Ramelo Hike gets drafted. Yeah,
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: their quarterback got drafted. Like are they gonna still be good?
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: Is this like a are they a machine?
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: So this is what I was trying to explain you.
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: They they have a lot of money invested in the
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: program in Nil so.
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: Mark Cuban is also funding. Because Mark Cubban's funding Illinois.
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's it's oil people in Texas. I don't
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: know that. But so the backstory is Evan one time
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: refused to it. I was like, Texas text legit, and
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: he was like, oh, they're not legit. It's Texas Tech.
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: Like they don't have re alignment. I think they have
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: a tackle next year. It's going top ten. So to
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: answer your question, they did have another really good class.
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: But I don't know if you're seeing this they got
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: I think he was the highest paid transferportal quarterback or
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: one of them. Brendan Soresby from Cincinnati.
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: Yeah good.
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: You probably watched him a little bit because you watched
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: Cincinnati receivers. He got caught up in some gambling stuff
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: in the last like twenty four hours, so I heard him.
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: So like in theory, yes, they built up to be
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: good again. We now have to see what happens with
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: sores By. But that has nothing to do with lack
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: of investment.
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: Okay, Uh. Another big program guy at two forty five,
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: Jam Miller, great name for running back, Like you would
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: imagine that in the movie Draft Day, if there was
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: a running back that was like a projected like top
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: five pick in Draft Day two, they're gonna call him
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: jam Miller because it's just a great name.
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: But as already they're already calling him jam Bam Cunningham.
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: I've seen a couple of people say that.
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: As good as he is as his name is, is
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: he good, Like does he have a chance here?
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: I think he for where they took him, for what
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: he is like as your third back. I think he's
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: a guy. He does a little bit of everything. He
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: catch the football, he can block. He's not like amazing
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: at it, but like you can throw him the football
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: and trust him. He blocked well in college. We'll see
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: how that translates. He's gonna take what's blocked. He's tough
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: to bring down runs with some power. I don't think
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: he's like an explosive play threat. I don't think he's
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: somebody that comes in and pushes rimondro stevensoner Trevion Henderson.
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: I do think he, in theory, represents an upgrade over
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: Terrell Jennings. Like he's kind of similar to Trel Jennings,
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: but I think he can do a little bit more.
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: Like he's similar runner to Trell Jennings. I think he
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: can do more. In the past game, we'll see where
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: Lan Larrison's at, Like, and then he plays a ton
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: of special teams. Yeah, and not as a returner, as
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: a coverage guy. Maybe they have him return kicks. He's
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: got the body for it. But like, I think they
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: do a ton of special team stuff.
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: So he didn't return any kicks in college, but I see,
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: you know, he ran a four four, three or four.
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: I was surprised by that.
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: Yeah. He doesn't have great instant burst or acceleration. He's
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: more of a builder of speed, which kind of is
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: conducive to kickoffs because you have a lot. You know,
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: you have twenty yards before somebody hits you, right, so
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: you can build up that speed. I think he's got
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: a little bit of that. He's got a little bit
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: of jump cut ability, Like his lateral cuts do create
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: some space and he can't elude tackles that way. All
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: the Alabama people think he has no vision. The games
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: that I watched, I watched Georgia, like some of the
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: big games there wasn't a whole lot of room to run.
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: Guys like, I don't know where you wanted him to go.
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: Well, it's not a whole lot of room to run
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: in the NFL.
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: And Alabama did not have a great year up front,
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: I would say in that regard offensively, So, I don't know.
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: I mean maybe there's some vision concerns.
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: There and that that goes into the kickoffs too. You
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: have to have good vision.
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: Yeah, So, but I think the straight line speed in
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: the obviously he carries his frame well and he has
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: got kind of like a squatty frame that he carries
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: some weight on. It looks pretty good. You mentioned the
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: pass catching. The past blocking needs work as most do
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: running backs needs. So if he's gonna play, truly play
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: in the passing game. But I think where he's more
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: effective is like leaking out on like first and second down.
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: Yeah, he's a good check When I say he's good
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: in the passing game, he's not James White. He's like
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: he can handle himself as a checkdown guy. He's not
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: gonna stumble over himself in the route. You know, his
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: hands are reliable, He'll pick up, he gets what's given
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: to him, which is sounds obvious. Not every guy does.
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: Some guys try to overcomplicate it. He gets what's given
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: to him. He's like a decent you know. I think
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: he's an upgrade over twelve Jennings is the third back.
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: I don't think he's somebody that pushes anybody. He further
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: up the depth chart, but I think he can be
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: a fine throw back. And again he's gonna play a
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: ton in the kicking game.
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: Last thing on Jim Miller, then we can move on.
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: Yeah. Uh.
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: In that Georgia game, they ran like a boot flat
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: play where he just went fast to the flat right
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: out of the backfield and the quarterback booted a round
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: and threw it to him. He slid in bounds to
- 1:25:20Speaker 2: keep the clock rolling late in the game and the
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: game I almost clipped it and posted on Twitter because
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: as like Mike Rabel and Stretch just lost it.
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: This guy who remember the time they told Trayvon Henderson
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: to score against Tampa?
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: Yeah right, Like he just the football situational awareness whatever
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: that's called.
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: That was everything was there. He was there for a
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: while and like most Alabama running backs are three years
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: and done, if that he was there for a while.
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: I'm trying to remember what class he was, but he's
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: a smart You don't hang around that long at that
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: program without being a smart player. Yeah, he was there for.
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: I don't think he's the most fluid runner, and I
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: didn't think that he had like a great instant is
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: there for four years accelerator that's gonna be the biggest thing.
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: It's more of like a builder of speed than it is.
- 1:26:08Speaker 2: And you know, he he has that ability to hit
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: one really good jump cut or he's a little bit
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: of a one cut runner too on stretch zones and
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: things like that. But if you're asking him to like
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: stack moves together to like navigate through things, that's going
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: to get a little bit dicey. He's he's a one
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: cut and go kind of guy. And that's okay. That's
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: the type of back that he is. Last one here
- 1:26:30Speaker 2: Quintavious Hutchins from Boston College, right down the street, local
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: school product. He's from Alabama. Actually he's not from here,
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: but Quintavious Hutchins another guy that was a kind of
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: a star special teamer at Boston College.
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: He got asked to describe his game in the post
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: draft call, and first thing he said with special he.
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: Was like, really really good in the kicking game. Bill O'Brien,
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: I talked to him yesterday because I'm writing Hutchins' rookie
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: profile for the website, and he just mentioned the the
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: body type. You know, it's just a nice body type
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: for special teams where he can still run, but he's
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: got some physicality, yeah, and play strain to him. O'Brien
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: also mentioned third down pass rushing. You know that was obvious,
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: you know, watching him play bend and it's got some
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: quickness to him, some bend to him, some inside out
- 1:27:19Speaker 2: ability so he can rush the passer a little bit.
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: He can play in the kicking game. Probably a guy
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: that makes the team on not probably he will be
- 1:27:26Speaker 2: a guy that makes the team on special teams. But
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: if he makes the team on special teams, can he
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: be a in a pinch third down pass rusher type. Yeah,
- 1:27:36Speaker 2: I think so. He's only measured in at two hundred
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: and thirty three pounds. O'Brien said that he probably played
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: closer to two forty last year. I think he lost
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: some weight for the combine, but not the biggest guy
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: out on the edge. But he's got some finesse he's
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: got some burst, he's got some ability to bend the arc.
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: I think that there's something there. They really liked him.
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: They worked him out at the Boston College Pro Dame
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: Mike Frable was there, Mike Smith was there. The Patriots
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: outside linebackers coach Doug Moron worked with him at BC
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: a bunch reverse engineering. Doug Moroon would break down the
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: tackles on the opponent and scout the tackles and then
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: tell him. And you know, the other thing that O'Brien
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: mentioned to me was as Iraku was on the other
- 1:28:19Speaker 2: side a lot. So the twenty twenty four season, Hutchins
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: had some pretty good production because all the double teams
- 1:28:27Speaker 2: in attention were going to as Iraku. Then as Iraku obviously,
- 1:28:31Speaker 2: you know, ages out and goes to the NFL Draft,
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: and then last year the production dipped because he was
- 1:28:37Speaker 2: getting more of the attention. So one of those types
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: of things for a seventh round, last pick of the
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: draft type player, I actually see a path to the roster.
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: Now he's gonna have to beat out like a Branden Switson.
- 1:28:49Speaker 2: I don't think he's gonna beat out Elijah Pon.
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: I do feel like it because they they do need
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: another rusher. Feels like you want to keep five guys.
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: I think it's him and Braden Swinson probably for that
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: last spot. And special teams will obviously play a big
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: role in that.
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, so that's uh, that's your rundown of
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: the draft. Give me one the running back Montgomery Okay.
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: I liked him a little bit fluid, a little bit
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: more fluid than jam Miller. Kind of similar though, like
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: the similar they kind of have some of that late
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: burst and all that kind of stuff. But I saw
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: a little bit more flexibility, a little bit more fluidity
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: to his game than a guy like jam Miller. I
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: tried to get into the receivers. Uh, the kid from
- 1:29:28Speaker 2: two lane North Texas, Texas. I don't know why. I
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: said too lane North Texas Dorner too slow. I I
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: couldn't do it. I think so I think it's too slow.
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: I just what do you think of that offense? Bizarre?
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: What do you think? A mess to maker?
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: And I didn't watch it that close.
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: It's the quarterback. I know that was the highest scoring
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: offense college football last year. Really Yeah, and that quarterback
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: got he was another one like the I love it.
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: They're called the mean Green that I love good. Yeah.
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: No, their branding is legit.
- 1:29:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: Their quarterback got like big money to go to Oklahoma State.
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: He was like a breakout starlast year. Watch a little
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: More one. I'm just curiously think of that offense. The
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: way they used Dorner reminded me a little bit how
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: Kaishan Boody was used with the Patriots. Yeah, just like
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: get to the intermediate, get to the sticks, run a
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: little bit after the catch. I think Dorner can play.
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: I know a lot of people like Kyle Dixon as well.
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: He got the big signing bonus from them. I would
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: point out, so did CJ. DePree last year and he
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: didn't make the team.
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Dorners.
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: It's gonna be tough, though. They have a lot of
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: wide receivers that should Their room's kind of crowded, and
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: I don't know if there's a spot for one of
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: these udfas to crack it, especially because the guys you're
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: talking about maybe being on the outside looking in are
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: Pop Douglas and Fton Chishom, and those are inside guys.
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: You know. Dorner's kind of both more of an inside guy.
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: Dixon is an outside guy. Six', Four dixon's not playing
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: in the. Slot SO i look At John Darius, morgan
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: the guard FROM uab had played left, tackle moved to
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: right guard last, year was, good and you, know does
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: he give him depth six, four three twenty good. Size
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: and Then Jacob, rizzy who was primarily a guard but
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: has played all five, spots gives him some you, know
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: some extra depths and MULTIPOSITIONAL i look at the two
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: guards as the GUYS i think have have good chances
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: to make the.
- 1:31:06Speaker 2: Team, YEAH i haven't Think montgomery is gonna surprise some.
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: PEOPLE i liked. HIM i think him and Jam miller.
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: Are they could have probably Drafted montgomery instead Of james
- 1:31:16Speaker 2: Jan miller and and we wouldn't have thought.
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: Twice about that special teams.
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: Experience and, yeah so we'll see if those guys can
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: kind of Push, Terrell Jennings Land, therrison you know for
- 1:31:27Speaker 2: running back. THREE i wanted to like the receivers more
- 1:31:30Speaker 2: THAN i. DID i, thought Uh A dorner was just
- 1:31:33Speaker 2: a little bit too. SLOW i like the revel of
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: competition with De journal and those guys is.
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: Tough jernal did play well Against. Oregon i'll give them
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: credit for. That he and he can play a little
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: more on the inside, too so MAYBE i should be
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: looking more at. Him. Yeah, yeah the other two, guys you,
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: Know kibble and and Uh, Dixon like there's some impressive stuff,
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: there but when you consider who they're playing, against and
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: they're both kind of contested catch, Guys, yeah these corners
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: are going to be a lot, better and you're not
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: going to be able to make it As jessic and
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: tested catch guy necessarily at the next, Level so, yeah
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: they'll be put to the.
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: Test all, right let's take these. Calls everybody's been waiting
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: forever a SO i don't know if they're all still,
- 1:32:15Speaker 2: there but we'll. SEE i Think sean was, first so
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: let's go With Seana. Vancouver he.
- 1:32:21Speaker 11: HAVN'T i got a couple of, Things. Alex you have
- 1:32:24Speaker 11: brought up the analogy quite a few times with the
- 1:32:26Speaker 11: baseball player who runs the first like five, seconds which
- 1:32:30Speaker 11: one is? BETTER i think this applies To Eli. RERIDON
- 1:32:34Speaker 11: i think this is a guy who has the physical
- 1:32:38Speaker 11: abilities and he just needs, Coaching he needs. Refining so
- 1:32:42Speaker 11: this is the type of player where you know you're
- 1:32:45Speaker 11: bringing in someone a little more raw and you can
- 1:32:47Speaker 11: make them something special now in terms of the, TEST
- 1:32:51Speaker 11: i don't know if you see it this, way.
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: BUT i see.
- 1:32:53Speaker 11: It there's a good possibility that low move would back
- 1:32:55Speaker 11: up left tackle and over backup right. Tackle have that
- 1:32:59Speaker 11: the road graders on the right side and the more
- 1:33:02Speaker 11: finessicill guide on the left. Side could you see that
- 1:33:06Speaker 11: as something moving?
- 1:33:06Speaker 3: Towards leave you with?
- 1:33:08Speaker 11: That, thanks, Thanks.
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: Sean, YEAH i definitely waiting. There, YEAH i don't. Know
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: our phone lines are all wonky right. NOW i think
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: it's that one, line line two that gets the call waiting.
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: THING i don't know. Why, YEAH i definitely think that
- 1:33:23Speaker 2: that's possible with the tackles in terms of which side
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: they back. Up, obviously you walked up to train both
- 1:33:27Speaker 2: sides and hopefully be able to swing back and.
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: Forth we're gonna even if he ends up being like
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: the second left tackle in the depth, CHART i think
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: we're going to see a lot of low right tackle
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: in the spring and.
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: Summer, Yeah raredan's definitely a guy whose arrow is pointing
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: up like that's the hope you look at him in
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: a couple of different. Ways the, injuries, obviously his freshman
- 1:33:46Speaker 2: year is a senior year of high school freshman year at.
- 1:33:49Speaker 2: College that's that was a developmental. Hurdle he also gets
- 1:33:55Speaker 2: To Notre, dame gets To South, bend And Michael mayer
- 1:33:57Speaker 2: is still At Notre dame his fresh, year then his
- 1:34:02Speaker 2: sophomore and junior. Seasons Mitchell, evans who was a fifth
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: round draft pick in THE, nfl was a pretty good
- 1:34:09Speaker 2: tight end for The. Irish he was, there so he
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: was kind of the guy at that point in, time
- 1:34:14Speaker 2: and then finally he's, healthy there's nobody in front of,
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: him Like raridan is the guy this past, Season so
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: there was kind Of Notre dame's kind of a factory
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: at that. Position it's a sneaky tight end, factory so
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: there was guys at that position that were blocking. Him
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: there was also the, injury and then it probably took
- 1:34:34Speaker 2: him a year to get bounced back from the injury
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: once he was, healthy so he just was. Slower his
- 1:34:40Speaker 2: development was just, slower and he had a later. Breakout
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: but then once he broke, out he broke out pretty
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: at a pretty high. Level so you do hope that
- 1:34:48Speaker 2: the arrow is still pointing upward or that the, guy
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: at least the guy that he was last year At
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: Notre dame is the. Guy he's going to be at
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: THE nfl, level which IS i think a pretty close
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: to a starting caliber player if he if he doesn't
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: get much better than. That all, right let's go To
- 1:35:03Speaker 2: david In. Virginia what's Up? David? No, No. David justin's In.
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: Maine what's Up? Justin? Dope note of that one. Too
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: how About Jane? Atlanta third times a? Charm i'm here
- 1:35:24Speaker 2: if you, guys what's? Up? Jay all?
- 1:35:27Speaker 4: Right, first, first and, FOREMOST i want to, say you
- 1:35:29Speaker 4: guys are absolutely Killing patriots. Coverage i'm gonna mess you.
- 1:35:34Speaker 4: Guys you go, national not. Far and, Lastly drake was
- 1:35:40Speaker 4: killing last year in the passing. Game he, uh he's very,
- 1:35:44Speaker 4: efficient but there wasn't a ton of volume as far
- 1:35:46Speaker 4: as passing the. Topscode so by, product a lot of
- 1:35:50Speaker 4: receivers didn't have a ton of. Opportunities so it looks
- 1:35:53Speaker 4: a little. Weird we look at the. Stats If drake
- 1:35:55Speaker 4: were to increase the, attempts do you think some of
- 1:35:59Speaker 4: the receivers look better instead of being so?
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: Touchdown, YEAH i guess it's a fair. QUESTION i, mean
- 1:36:07Speaker 2: he dropped back quite a few, times BUT i guess
- 1:36:09Speaker 2: if you add the, Running, yeah they were lower and pass,
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: ATTEMPTS i WOULD I i don't. KNOW i feel like
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: this is sort of like A Kaishan Booty Kyle williams. Question, yeah,
- 1:36:20Speaker 2: right if like you increase the volume of the overall passing,
- 1:36:23Speaker 2: game where they'll where there will their volume? INCREASE i
- 1:36:27Speaker 2: look at a little bit. DIFFERENTLY i feel like you
- 1:36:29Speaker 2: also have to they need to expand what their, repertoires,
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: Right like what's Kaish On booty's volume? Route you, like
- 1:36:39Speaker 2: what's the way that he gets to a higher volume
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: that's not just getting thrown deep balls down the? Sideline you,
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: know is there different routes that he can add to
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: his rat tree or maybe he just has them and they're,
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: untapped whether it's a slant to, dig an under crosser
- 1:36:54Speaker 2: like something else that is giving a higher, efficiency higher
- 1:36:58Speaker 2: completion rate type of. Throw And i'd say the same
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: thing About Kyle, Williams, like we Know Kyle williams can
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: get down the field and release and get off the
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: line of scrimmage and stack corners and stuff like that
- 1:37:07Speaker 2: on the, Outside but does he have A i would
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: say THE iq BECAUSE i think that was an issue for.
- 1:37:13Speaker 2: Him we get into the right. Spots but b does
- 1:37:15Speaker 2: he have the ability, to you, know run different routes
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: on the rout. TREE i thought he showed that a
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: little bit in. COLLEGE i thot he add more routes
- 1:37:23Speaker 2: into his game in. COLLEGE i think some of the
- 1:37:26Speaker 2: learning curve there of the passing game might have hit.
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: Him maybe another year, helps, yeah build that out all?
- 1:37:31Speaker 2: Right jeff is In. Missouri what's?
- 1:37:33Speaker 12: Up?
- 1:37:33Speaker 3: Jeff, hey, GUYS i GUESS i got a question on
- 1:37:39Speaker 3: what you think the compensation would be in the event
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: that we did end Upgrading Christian gonzales and number, two
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: the philosophic what's your thoughts on the philosophical approach of
- 1:37:50Speaker 3: using a corner as a foundational building? Block and the
- 1:37:53Speaker 3: REASON i asked, THIS i don't know that anybody can
- 1:37:56Speaker 3: make the case That Christian gonzalez has been that, impactful
- 1:38:00Speaker 3: gets hurt his rookie, year plays amazing his second, year
- 1:38:03Speaker 3: not really much a difference from the. Defense if you
- 1:38:05Speaker 3: go to The Super bowl, itself you can make the
- 1:38:07Speaker 3: argument That seattle's running back was more impactful Than Christian
- 1:38:11Speaker 3: gonzalez playing a perfect game at. CORNER i just don't
- 1:38:14Speaker 3: know that in the twenty twenty six twenty twenty, SEVEN.
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: NFL a cornerback should be a foundational building. Block i'd
- 1:38:20Speaker 3: like to get your thoughts from that and what they
- 1:38:22Speaker 3: think what could they get from compensation in a trade
- 1:38:26Speaker 3: given what the Sauce gardner.
- 1:38:27Speaker 2: Brought, yeah thanks for the. CALL i couldn't disagree more.
- 1:38:33Speaker 2: THAT i don't mean to like be an a hole about.
- 1:38:35Speaker 2: IT i JUST i think the biggest thing about you, know,
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: CORNERS i mean we saw it in The Super, bowl
- 1:38:41Speaker 2: Like gonzales Tookon jason out of the. Game is It
- 1:38:44Speaker 2: gonzalez's fault that they couldn't Tackle Kenneth walker and that
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: they couldn't set the edge and, yeah that the run,
- 1:38:52Speaker 2: game you, know got. LOOSE i don't know how that
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: Makes gonzales invaluable or is that the right, word not?
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: Valuable, YEAH i mean it's about having a complete. Team
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: AND i think corner especially is a position where you
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: don't see you see his you would see his impact
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: more in his.
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: Absence, Yeah like maybe you don't Think gonzalez is as
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: good of a, player but you'd, like we don't Think
- 1:39:17Speaker 2: Patrick sartana is valuable to The broncos Or Derek stingley
- 1:39:20Speaker 2: is valuable to The texans or you, know go right
- 1:39:23Speaker 2: down the. Line you know the ability and you know
- 1:39:25Speaker 2: this goes back to, uh you, know REALLY i think
- 1:39:29Speaker 2: this is true in any decade of, football era of,
- 1:39:32Speaker 2: football but, uh the ability to do one or the
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: other as a, cornerback whether it's take your side of
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: the field away or take an assignment you, know and
- 1:39:40Speaker 2: travel with the receiver more Like gonzalez's. Style the ability
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: to do that is extremely valuable because if all you
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: need to do is put one guy on the star,
- 1:39:50Speaker 2: receiver like let's take for. Example you know there's multiple
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: times that he's done, this but, uh if you don't
- 1:39:56Speaker 2: want to use The Super, bowl remember week one of
- 1:39:58Speaker 2: twenty twenty four when he Guarded Jamar, chase.
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: Yeah By Tyreek hill the next, week, yeah and so
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: that that was twenty, three twenty, three twenty.
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: Four he just Takes Jamar chase pretty much out of the, game.
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: Right and so now, theoretically if you have one guy
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: that can do that on his, own, well now the
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: other ten guys are kind of freed up to do
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: some more of the things that you want to. Do
- 1:40:21Speaker 2: from a, scheme game plan, perspective you, know you can't
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: play they played something crazy like over fifty percent of
- 1:40:29Speaker 2: their snaps and man coverage down in the playoff. Runt,
- 1:40:32Speaker 2: right you can't play that level of man coverage against
- 1:40:35Speaker 2: some of the best offenses in the league if you
- 1:40:37Speaker 2: don't have a player Like gonzalez who can shut down
- 1:40:41Speaker 2: a number one, receiver like a true number one, receiver
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: because you can't live up with your corners on islands
- 1:40:46Speaker 2: if you don't have that kind of talent on the.
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: Outside so the whole basis of their playoff, RUN i would,
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: say was based off the fact that they Had, Gonzalez
- 1:40:54Speaker 2: AND i would also give you, know credit To Carlon
- 1:40:56Speaker 2: davis And Marcus jones, too like their ability to play
- 1:40:59Speaker 2: man demand without much, help allowed them to, blitz allowed
- 1:41:03Speaker 2: them to be more aggressive in their front, mechanics allowed
- 1:41:06Speaker 2: them to do the things that they did that got
- 1:41:08Speaker 2: them to the Super. Bowl SO i don't necessarily think
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: That gonzalez's value is just what he. Does it's also
- 1:41:16Speaker 2: the trickle down effect of how this works on everybody.
- 1:41:19Speaker 2: Else i'm surprised to get a call like, that to be, Honest,
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: yeah because we've seen this so often around, here whether
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: it Was Ty law or the year With Darell reeves
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: Or Stefan gilmour in his, prime if you want to
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: go more, recent you, know like those guys are are
- 1:41:34Speaker 2: extremely valuable for what they. Do SO i, YEAH i
- 1:41:39Speaker 2: don't mean.
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: TO i think some people just see you, know the
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: new the. REPORTS i should say that they might trade
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: a first round pick FOR A. J. Brown i'm trying
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: to figure out how to get a first round pick
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: back or whatever's going on with the contract or. Whatever,
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: no it's incredibly valuable AND i.
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: Actually think and not that he's terrible at. It The sauce,
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: trade to, me always stem from the fact That Aaron
- 1:42:01Speaker 2: glenn really wants to be a man to man.
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: Defense, yeah and they had.
- 1:42:04Speaker 2: A corner and not That sauce can't play man because he,
- 1:42:07Speaker 2: can't but he Had they had a corner that was
- 1:42:09Speaker 2: more built and drafted to play In Robert sala's, defense
- 1:42:12Speaker 2: which was birth from The seattle three and has kind
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: of become like more quarters. Heavy but it's his own, defense.
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: Right this the base and the foundation of what they,
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: do and that tree is zone. Defense so they Drafted
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: sauce to play in that kind of. Defense and Then
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: Aaron glenn comes and he really wants his corners to
- 1:42:29Speaker 2: be man to, man corners in shadow and do all
- 1:42:32Speaker 2: that kind of, stuff and they just didn't really feel
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: Like Sauce. GARDNER i don't think they felt like he
- 1:42:37Speaker 2: was a great fit For Aaron. Glenn now you could
- 1:42:40Speaker 2: make the argument that you probably shouldn't have done, that
- 1:42:43Speaker 2: but you could also, say you, know to go back
- 1:42:46Speaker 2: to one of the things we were talking about, earlier
- 1:42:48Speaker 2: Like Aaron glenn's the type of guy that he wants
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: his corners to be, aggressive he wants his corners to play,
- 1:42:53Speaker 2: man he wants his corners to, tackle LIKE i did
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: not just that none of those things Describe Sauce, Gardner
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: like that's not him at. All SO i just think
- 1:43:03Speaker 2: that that's what led them down that path versus paying.
- 1:43:06Speaker 2: Him was, like is this really a great Fit, GONZALEZ
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: i don't really see that being the. Case SO i don't.
- 1:43:13Speaker 2: KNOW i, mean when you talk about what's valuable in the, league,
- 1:43:18Speaker 2: now just to kind of put peel back that those
- 1:43:23Speaker 2: layers for a, second you always start with the passing.
- 1:43:27Speaker 2: Game so guys that throw the, ball guys that catch the,
- 1:43:31Speaker 2: ball guys that protect the. Quarterback, yeah, right and then
- 1:43:34Speaker 2: on the other. Side it's guys that if you are
- 1:43:38Speaker 2: trying to build it around guys that can throw the
- 1:43:40Speaker 2: ball and catch the, ball then you need somebody that
- 1:43:42Speaker 2: can disrupt the guy that throws the, ball and somebody
- 1:43:44Speaker 2: that disrupts the guy that passes the ball or catches the.
- 1:43:47Speaker 2: Ball so who are those that's, quarterback wide, receiver, tackle pass, rusher.
- 1:43:52Speaker 2: Corner and now we can make arguments that interior pass
- 1:43:57Speaker 2: rush is more important than next tior, whatever but just
- 1:44:01Speaker 2: guys that get after the. Quarterback so that's a premium. Position,
- 1:44:05Speaker 2: yeah that that's a premium. Position let's go To herman D.
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: C what's up Herm?
- 1:44:11Speaker 4: Evan what's going on with my?
- 1:44:12Speaker 2: Boy how doing?
- 1:44:15Speaker 4: Good?
- 1:44:15Speaker 12: Evan you my? God you know What i'm. Saying BUT
- 1:44:17Speaker 12: i gotta give you a hard time real, quick BECAUSE
- 1:44:19Speaker 12: i want to go back for a second AND i
- 1:44:21Speaker 12: have a question for. You Uh, so remember we had
- 1:44:24Speaker 12: the conversation about this whole number one receiver, thing and
- 1:44:28Speaker 12: we talked about The Super, bowl.
- 1:44:30Speaker 10: AND i think it Was fred who basically was saying
- 1:44:35Speaker 10: That gonzo took just send out of the, game and
- 1:44:40Speaker 10: your response, was quote did he?
- 1:44:43Speaker 12: Question?
- 1:44:43Speaker 3: Mark?
- 1:44:44Speaker 12: Right but NOW i guess you must have come around
- 1:44:47Speaker 12: because the previous, call who said this the other thing About, GONZO.
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: I didn't make that. Comment, no, no What i'm, saying
- 1:44:57Speaker 2: what comments the did he go? One that's that's Snarky
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: paul written all over.
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: It, NO i was.
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: YOU i would not have said, that. Dude now that
- 1:45:07Speaker 2: that's got Snarky paul written all OVER i remember the.
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: Conversation he was saying, that Like Sam darnold TOOK jsn
- 1:45:13Speaker 2: out of the game because the throws were not great
- 1:45:16Speaker 2: throws TO jsn and if they had been good throws
- 1:45:19Speaker 2: and he was. OPEN i remember we talked about. It
- 1:45:23Speaker 2: we talked about, it the broken play where he got
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: you remember the broken player in The Super bowl that
- 1:45:28Speaker 2: Jays n was wide open on the second reaction, Play,
- 1:45:31Speaker 2: DONALD i had mailed. It, yeah that Was BUT i
- 1:45:36Speaker 2: guess that's a good.
- 1:45:37Speaker 12: Well you, know BUT i, MEAN i guess the WAY
- 1:45:41Speaker 12: i remember, it you must have come around because you
- 1:45:44Speaker 12: just admitted That donalson took this another. Game you know
- 1:45:47Speaker 12: What i'm. Saying but, again that's HOW i remember. It
- 1:45:49Speaker 12: BUT i guess my question is this all? Right an
- 1:45:51Speaker 12: excuse my, Ignorance but this whole conversation About Will campbell to,
- 1:45:56Speaker 12: me is this honestly stupid to be with? You BECAUSE
- 1:45:58Speaker 12: i think she's be given an opportunity to show that
- 1:46:02Speaker 12: he can play left. Tackle BUT i guess my question,
- 1:46:05Speaker 12: is and, again excuse my, ignorance but how hard is
- 1:46:08Speaker 12: it to flip someone from the left to the right
- 1:46:14Speaker 12: and vice versa and not take it up?
- 1:46:16Speaker 8: There?
- 1:46:16Speaker 2: Listen thank, you, thanks Thanks, Sirm thanks for the. CALL
- 1:46:19Speaker 2: i appreciate. IT i love those when. Listen it happens
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: all the. Time we say a lot of, things we
- 1:46:24Speaker 2: talk a, lot and, uh you know that doesn't that
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: just you, Know, paul that sounds like a.
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: Sad that clip doesn't end up On? Twitter.
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: Though if he's, right then go back and pull the.
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: Clip but that doesn't sound like. Me though you Know
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: i'm a gonzo. GUY i would NOT i wouldn't give him, that,
- 1:46:38Speaker 2: uh that kind of. Grief the second one was flipping.
- 1:46:43Speaker 2: Sides we talked about that a little bit. Earlier. UH
- 1:46:47Speaker 2: i think it's harder than some do, personally just Because
- 1:46:50Speaker 2: i've seen a lot of guys try it and. FAIL
- 1:46:53Speaker 2: i think you know you're not only the big thing
- 1:46:56Speaker 2: that you have to remember is that everything gets. Flipped
- 1:46:59Speaker 2: both your feet and.
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: Your hands or flipping your dominant. Side people have compared
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: it to me to learning right with your off hand,
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: right and people can do. That there are people that
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: can write perfectly fine with both. Hands, yeah but you
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: have to learn how to do, it and learning how
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: to do that on the fly is obviously not. Easy
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: so it's, yeah that's the COMP i always. Here it's
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: learning how to write with your off. Hand.
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: Yeah and so you're, flipping you, know when you think about,
- 1:47:25Speaker 2: it your inside hand is now outside, right and then
- 1:47:29Speaker 2: your inside foot is now. Outside so like that inside
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: foot is a really important foot because that's the foot
- 1:47:37Speaker 2: you're driving off of when you go to pass, set,
- 1:47:40Speaker 2: right when you come out of your stance and you
- 1:47:42Speaker 2: go into your, set whether you're, vertical setting forty, five,
- 1:47:45Speaker 2: whatever when you go out of, it that's the foot
- 1:47:48Speaker 2: that you're using to push off and explode out. Of
- 1:47:51Speaker 2: so now that foot is, backwards so that foot's on
- 1:47:54Speaker 2: the other side, Now so now you have to train
- 1:47:56Speaker 2: that other foot not only from a muscle memory, standpoint
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: but also just from an explosiveness stand, yeah to be
- 1:48:04Speaker 2: able to explode out of. There you, know some of
- 1:48:07Speaker 2: the guys really struggle with. It, now are they as
- 1:48:11Speaker 2: talented As Caleb blomu Or Will?
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: Campbell probably, Not and more, important not more, importantly be like.
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: Athletic like athleticism lends itself this if you have like a, big,
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: lumbering powerful, tackle those guys are gonna have a much
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: harder job doing. This that's what Makes Trent brown so
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: unbelievable is the fact that he can do this at his,
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: Size like it's. Unreal it's really not supposed to. Happen
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: like a, big, powerful lumbering tackle is gonna have a
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: lot more trouble with this than a guy whose game
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: is more built on athleticism because they're just naturally more.
- 1:48:40Speaker 2: Nimble, now to uh be optimistic about, This, yeah and these,
- 1:48:48Speaker 2: GUYS i will preface this by, saying these guys are
- 1:48:50Speaker 2: all really really elite players at the. Position so it's
- 1:48:54Speaker 2: a little high of a. Bar But Joe all was
- 1:48:58Speaker 2: drafted by The. Chargers slater already IN. La he played
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: left in college At Notre. Dame he's playing right for
- 1:49:07Speaker 2: The chargers right now at right tackle Was slater went
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: healthy on the left And Joe alt is one of
- 1:49:13Speaker 2: the probably ten best tackles in. Football the other guy
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: that has flipped back and forth Is Tristan. Wurf's you,
- 1:49:21Speaker 2: Know Tristan wurfs was drafted by The. BUCKS i think
- 1:49:24Speaker 2: it Was Donovan smith who was still, there the veteran.
- 1:49:26Speaker 2: Tackle he was playing left, tackle And Tristan wharf's was
- 1:49:31Speaker 2: drafted in the first. Round they played him at. Right
- 1:49:33Speaker 2: then When Donovan smith, retired they moved them back to,
- 1:49:36Speaker 2: left where he was in. College so those two guys
- 1:49:39Speaker 2: have gone back and. Forth The, lions he hasn't done it,
- 1:49:42Speaker 2: yet BUT i don't think he's going to have a.
- 1:49:44Speaker 2: Problem The lions are talking about Flipping penny Sewol Penny
- 1:49:47Speaker 2: sewell to the left side because when he was, Drafted
- 1:49:50Speaker 2: Taylor decker was still, there so he was playing on the,
- 1:49:53Speaker 2: Left Penny sewell was playing on the. Right Penny, SEWELL i,
- 1:49:56Speaker 2: think might have played right in college. Also but when
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: you have that kind of, ability and, granted those are
- 1:50:02Speaker 2: three of the best tackles in, football SO i understand
- 1:50:05Speaker 2: them setting a really really high. Bar but when you
- 1:50:08Speaker 2: have that kind of, ability you can do. It and
- 1:50:10Speaker 2: those guys that flip back and, forth no, problem not
- 1:50:13Speaker 2: to pick on, them but when you have the ability
- 1:50:17Speaker 2: Of Vederian, lowe flipping back and forth ain't so. Easy
- 1:50:21Speaker 2: Vadarian lowe was a serviceable left. Tackle he was not
- 1:50:25Speaker 2: a serviceable right tackle right so he couldn't do. It
- 1:50:28Speaker 2: he couldn't. Flip so you like to think as the
- 1:50:31Speaker 2: first round. Pick, Now joel was a top ten, Pick
- 1:50:34Speaker 2: Penny stool was a top ten. Pick wharfs was it
- 1:50:36Speaker 2: in the? TEENS i want to, say like, eleven, twelve,
- 1:50:39Speaker 2: thirteen something like. That in that draft they're a little
- 1:50:43Speaker 2: bit more highly touted than a guy Like Caleb. Loomo
- 1:50:46Speaker 2: but in, theory it's a similar range of the. Draft
- 1:50:49Speaker 2: for not talking about a guy that was drafted in
- 1:50:50Speaker 2: the first round versus a guy that was. DRAFTED i
- 1:50:52Speaker 2: Think Vaderian lowe is a was a late day three. Pick,
- 1:50:55Speaker 2: yeah so in there's that positivity. There when you're that,
- 1:51:00Speaker 2: talented when you're that, athletic most of the time you
- 1:51:03Speaker 2: can play either side and have no big. Problem the
- 1:51:07Speaker 2: other thing THAT i, mentioned and THEN i want to
- 1:51:09Speaker 2: give a thought On gronk before we wrap up the.
- 1:51:11Speaker 2: Show the other THING i mentioned yesterday because this Is
- 1:51:15Speaker 2: paul is proud of me for this. ONE i picked
- 1:51:17Speaker 2: On paul Earlier paul was proud of me BECAUSE I
- 1:51:22Speaker 2: i won't lay down my sword On Will, campbell. RIGHT
- 1:51:25Speaker 2: i think a lot of people are ready to give
- 1:51:26Speaker 2: up On Will campbell because of how the year ended last.
- 1:51:29Speaker 2: YEAR i won't do. It but the one thing THAT
- 1:51:31Speaker 2: i did, say because we're having the conversation of Is
- 1:51:36Speaker 2: lomu gonna Move campbell? Right? Like Is lomu gonna move
- 1:51:39Speaker 2: them either to the right side or inside the? Guard
- 1:51:42Speaker 2: and the only thing THAT i would say is that
- 1:51:44Speaker 2: there is a chance That campbell is just more capable
- 1:51:50Speaker 2: of flipping Than lomu is. Right it's not necessarily That
- 1:51:54Speaker 2: campbell is bad or worse Than, lomu but Maybe campbell
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: at right tackle is a better proposition Than lou at right.
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: TACKLE i hear some people THAT i agree with the
- 1:52:04Speaker 2: line of thinking a little bit that on the right
- 1:52:06Speaker 2: side you typically want to have your glass eaters on
- 1:52:09Speaker 2: the right and your past protectors on the. Left So
- 1:52:12Speaker 2: campbell is a little bit more naturally that, nasty you,
- 1:52:15Speaker 2: know finishing type of run. Blocker so maybe having him
- 1:52:19Speaker 2: on the right side is just a better you, know
- 1:52:21Speaker 2: when you go by that rule of, thumb that doesn't
- 1:52:25Speaker 2: mean that he's not a tackle though, right like the
- 1:52:27Speaker 2: right is still a. Tackle but if they're gonna Move
- 1:52:30Speaker 2: campbell off of left, tackle the only WAY i see
- 1:52:33Speaker 2: that happening is that If lomu is a starting caliber, Player,
- 1:52:37Speaker 2: yeah and they want to Get lomu on the, field
- 1:52:39Speaker 2: But lomu's only comfortable playing on the left, Right i'm
- 1:52:42Speaker 2: not going any further than.
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: That i'm not, Either and then you're still set after this.
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: DRAFT i feel like they can be set at tackle
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: for three to five. Years, yeah you're still set a
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: tackle for three to five years if that's what. Happens
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: so so.
- 1:52:55Speaker 2: Now we just have to figure out what the best
- 1:52:56Speaker 2: five is and what they.
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: Seem insistence That campbells still to be the left.
- 1:53:00Speaker 2: Haack as they should, be Because i've seen some crazy
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: our Buddy Mike, cadley some crazy uh combinations.
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: Out, There tucker out to.
- 1:53:08Speaker 2: Tackle it's Like lomu And campbell at guard and Vera
- 1:53:12Speaker 2: tucker at tackle and a when who's here and when
- 1:53:14Speaker 2: it's not? Here like one of the biggest things That
- 1:53:18Speaker 2: Dante scarnekia always used to say and is really. Steadfasting
- 1:53:23Speaker 2: you don't want to play musical chairs up, Front, no.
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: You don't want to be. Five you don't want to
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: be moving everybody.
- 1:53:28Speaker 2: Around So lo MoU needs to go in. Someplace if
- 1:53:33Speaker 2: it's right, tackle that's the easiest thing to. Do if
- 1:53:36Speaker 2: he can only play, left but he plays it at
- 1:53:38Speaker 2: a high. Level and you want to Flip, campbell, fine
- 1:53:40Speaker 2: but we're not rearranging the entire. Deck like that's not
- 1:53:44Speaker 2: that's not the way to do.
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: This And i'll emphasize it. Again campbell was sallowed last
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: year until he got, hurt and, yeah he struggled significantly
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: after he got. Hurt you got to give another chance
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: because if he can be the guy he was from
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: most the last, year plus you tack on like a
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: second in your, development that's a starting caliber left. Tackle,
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: yeah you don't just blow through that in a year
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: because you want to get wins on. TOO i think
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: a lot of The Will campbell hate comes down and
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: people just want to get wins On.
- 1:54:09Speaker 2: Twitter, yeah so you know there was a little bit
- 1:54:13Speaker 2: of that going. ON i would just, say, like If
- 1:54:18Speaker 2: campbell ends up flipping to right, tackle people are going
- 1:54:21Speaker 2: to take victory laps and, say, see, well right tackle
- 1:54:25Speaker 2: is still tackle first of, all, right and second of,
- 1:54:27Speaker 2: all like, nowadays a lot of guys that are the
- 1:54:30Speaker 2: best pass rushers in the league are lining up on
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: the right side and to the left, like you're still.
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: Fine they drafted tackles in back to back, years and
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: then if they get two starting tackles after drafting tackles
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: and back to back, years, good, Awesome, great you're in great.
- 1:54:44Speaker 2: Shape.
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: YEAH i think THAT'S i don't know why there is
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: worth quibbling over.
- 1:54:50Speaker 2: That, okay five more. Minutes we have four minutes to
- 1:54:53Speaker 2: talk About Rob gronkowski, Here, patriots first Ballot hall Of.
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: Famer my, boss he's gonna be a little bit. DISAPPOINTED
- 1:55:01Speaker 2: i think that we didn't go in order, again and
- 1:55:03Speaker 2: we we Jumped vinitari in the in the order here
- 1:55:07Speaker 2: again in terms of you, know when they retired and
- 1:55:09Speaker 2: all that. Stuff but easily a first Ballot hall Of
- 1:55:14Speaker 2: famer in my, mind first ballot talent that come through
- 1:55:18Speaker 2: here with The. Patriots, uh he's the first Ballot hall
- 1:55:21Speaker 2: Of famer In canton. TWO i, think, so oh, yeah
- 1:55:25Speaker 2: this is the greatest tight end of all. TIME i
- 1:55:27Speaker 2: don't really need to say much more about how good he.
- 1:55:30Speaker 2: Is all of you guys watched him play the most
- 1:55:32Speaker 2: physically dominant PLAYER i might have ever, Seen like he's
- 1:55:36Speaker 2: on the short. LIST i would, say you, know, offensively
- 1:55:40Speaker 2: the most dominant football players on. Offense you, KNOW i
- 1:55:43Speaker 2: not to get into all the defensive. Guys, Megatron Randy,
- 1:55:47Speaker 2: Moss Rob. GRONKOWSKI i think those are the three. MOST
- 1:55:50Speaker 2: i think there's one more person that. Conversation, Okay Derrick, Henry, yeah,
- 1:55:54Speaker 2: okay that's. Fair you JUST i hate running. BACKS i
- 1:55:56Speaker 2: know you.
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: Do BUT i always, say, like, yeah, Sure Rob gronkowski
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: And Derrick, henry and that can be The Mount. RUSHMORE
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: i think that is The Mount. Rushmore Rob gronkowski And
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: Derek henry's.
- 1:56:04Speaker 2: Partly by the, way not going back To.
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: Rob gronkowski And Derek henry are two sides of the same,
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: coin And gronk the positional value. Thing maybe people don't see.
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: This sometimes you're just simply not supposed to be that,
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: big that, fast that, nimbled that. Skilled, yeah nobody is
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: that entire package like you see these. Guys everyone saw
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: who was the tight end we really liked a few
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: years ago that The jets took that had the insane.
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: Combine it was like getting comped To. Megatron but he
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: just like couldn't. Play do you remember that he was
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: like A d TWO d three tight. End there's even
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: somebody this year Like Jeff caldwell had. It this, year
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: we had like The megatron. Combine doesn't have the, skill
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: doesn't maybe have the nimbleness anything like. That who was
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: this tight end a couple of years? Ago Zach. Koontz, oh,
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: Yeah jesus is all going way back is not in
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: the league. Anymore, no it's just physically you're not supposed
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: to be all around, good and that's What gronk. Was
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: and then you add to it the will he didn't,
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: Have like a lot of superstars wouldn't block the way he. Did,
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: yeah because they wouldn't need to deal with. It that last,
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: YEAR i, think even though he wasn't his last year
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: and he wasn't really himself anymore because he's dealing with
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: the back, INJURY i think says a ton about the
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: player he was because he wasn't the same, receiver but
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: he was still going out there every week and blocking
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: his ass. Off and then he makes that one big,
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: catch you, know in The Super, bowl and he had
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: a couple of big ones In Kansas city as. Well just,
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: yeah one of One unicorn, player the greatest tight end
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: in the history of the, sport one of the greatest
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: personalities in the history of the. Sport there will never
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: there was no player like him. Before they will not
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: be another player like him.
- 1:57:45Speaker 2: After absolutely last. Thing i'll, say because he summed it up,
- 1:57:48Speaker 2: NICELY i think it's really, cool, uh That edelman And
- 1:57:52Speaker 2: gronk are going in and back to back.
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: Years to run that. Out, Brady, Edelman.
- 1:57:56Speaker 2: Gronk, Yeah brady was going in no matter WHAT i.
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: Know but that those three going in a.
- 1:58:01Speaker 2: Row, yeah it just it's a nice little run, here
- 1:58:05Speaker 2: especially for you, know our era and you know people
- 1:58:08Speaker 2: that grew up like us with Like patriots fans right
- 1:58:10Speaker 2: in this. Timeframe it's pretty cool to see big hitter
- 1:58:15Speaker 2: after big hitter for those twenty Tens patriots. Teams So
- 1:58:18Speaker 2: gronk is gonna do a press conference live On patriots Dot,
- 1:58:22Speaker 2: com A zoom. Conference he's not, here but A zoom
- 1:58:25Speaker 2: conference at TWO. Pm so in a couple of, minutes
- 1:58:28Speaker 2: we're going to stream that live on our. Platform so
- 1:58:31Speaker 2: you can go ahead and check that out now that
- 1:58:33Speaker 2: we're wrapping up this, show because you wouldn't watch that
- 1:58:35Speaker 2: Over catch twenty two of, course but you can go
- 1:58:37Speaker 2: watch that now in about sixty seconds, here and then
- 1:58:41Speaker 2: next week we'll be back On catch twoint. Two we'll
- 1:58:43Speaker 2: talk about some of these, udfas reset the roster a little,
