- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, what's up guys. Happy Monday, and thanks for having
- 0:02Speaker 1: me back. I'll say this, I've been out and about.
- 0:04Speaker 1: I've been around. I was out Saturday. I got out
- 0:07Speaker 1: of there fast. I was just in Union Square this morning.
- 0:12Speaker 1: NYPD And even like the sanitation and other like I
- 0:16Speaker 1: don't know departments that helped clean up. They must have
- 0:19Speaker 1: been more prepared than ever for this, Like the city
- 0:22Speaker 1: burned down Saturday night. They literally burned buses that were
- 0:26Speaker 1: used to transport fans of Brazil and Morocco from the
- 0:30Speaker 1: city to East Rutherford and back. Like that's why those
- 0:32Speaker 1: buses you saw were on fire. Like there's no kids
- 0:35Speaker 1: in school on Saturday night using those buses. Those were
- 0:37Speaker 1: buses that were forty nine dollars. That was the cheapest
- 0:39Speaker 1: way to settle from Times Square to East Rutherford, New Jersey.
- 0:43Speaker 1: And the bus drivers abandoned those buses because they got overrun.
- 0:48Speaker 1: The buses were gone. Everything was cleaned up in Times Square.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Everything is back to normal, which is crazy because when
- 0:55Speaker 1: you see those videos, it looks like something out of
- 0:57Speaker 1: a movie.
- 0:58Speaker 2: And they're gonna have a parade third up the Canyon
- 1:01Speaker 2: of Heroes up Broadway right ten am. What people are saying,
- 1:05Speaker 2: that's gonna be the biggest parade, tick or tap parade
- 1:07Speaker 2: New York's ever had. What you going to that or
- 1:10Speaker 2: you stand out of that?
- 1:11Speaker 1: Keith, No, I'm going. I'm going because I mean I've
- 1:15Speaker 1: been on the radio at night telling people how great
- 1:18Speaker 1: a New York Yankees parade would be, how big a
- 1:21Speaker 1: New York Yankees parade would be, for years, and then
- 1:25Speaker 1: slowly over the last maybe two three years, we started
- 1:27Speaker 1: to think about a Knicks parade and the Knicks being
- 1:30Speaker 1: the one team in the city that unites all the
- 1:34Speaker 1: fans Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jet Islanders, Rangers, whatever, even people
- 1:39Speaker 1: from New Jersey coming in through the bridges and tunnels.
- 1:42Speaker 1: The biggest possible parade that New York City could have
- 1:45Speaker 1: on display for the world to see. In four k
- 1:48Speaker 1: is the Knicks Parade, and I don't know if we'll
- 1:50Speaker 1: get another one. So I'm out there. I'm going. I'm
- 1:52Speaker 1: gonna go early as soon as I dropped my son
- 1:53Speaker 1: off at daycare. I'm going.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Keith mcpherrison joining us from New York City livel on
- 2:00Speaker 2: he'p Beacon Plumbing Hotline. After the Knicks won the NBA
- 2:02Speaker 2: title for the first time since nineteen seventy three.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Keith, where does this Knicks championship rank amongst the most
- 2:11Speaker 3: meaningful titles in New York sports history?
- 2:18Speaker 1: Now that we've sat with it for a couple of days,
- 2:21Speaker 1: it's starting to rank as like the most significant. And
- 2:23Speaker 1: it's not just recently biased the New York Knicks at
- 2:27Speaker 1: fifty three years. You know, some of us have family
- 2:32Speaker 1: members that were born and passed. My brother was born
- 2:35Speaker 1: in seventy eight. My brother passed in twenty fifteen Knicks fan.
- 2:39Speaker 1: And I mean he had a shorter life and only
- 2:41Speaker 1: lived to be thirty seven. But like people have family
- 2:44Speaker 1: members that lived and died as Knicks fans in that time.
- 2:47Speaker 1: There are a lot of posts and videos of people
- 2:50Speaker 1: going to grave sites and celebrating with their kids and
- 2:53Speaker 1: their families, and like I said again about it uniting
- 2:56Speaker 1: the entire city. For eighty years, the Knicks have played
- 2:59Speaker 1: in the middle of Manhattan, and for Jalen Brunson and
- 3:04Speaker 1: Karl Anthony towns them being local guys, and Leon Rose
- 3:07Speaker 1: and what he did, and and just so many people
- 3:10Speaker 1: said it couldn't happen, right, so many people said it
- 3:12Speaker 1: wouldn't happen it couldn't happen the way that they did it,
- 3:14Speaker 1: you know, Jalen Brunston taking one hundred and thirteen million
- 3:16Speaker 1: dollars less the making the trades that they made to
- 3:18Speaker 1: get ogn Andobi, you know, to get Josh Hart, to
- 3:21Speaker 1: get Michale Bridges. So like the level of significance like
- 3:25Speaker 1: this is right now the most significant championship in New
- 3:28Speaker 1: York too because just the last few years, you know,
- 3:32Speaker 1: obviously with political issues going on, with Wars going.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Oh, we lost Keith. We'll get him back in a
- 3:42Speaker 3: sec here, Sorry about that guy. So yeah, I'll call
- 3:45Speaker 3: Keith back. We lost him there. He was getting he
- 3:47Speaker 3: was telling us some good stuff there, So give me
- 3:49Speaker 3: one second, Greg, I'm gonna call him back, Okay. Yeah.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Keith mc ferrison former Wfan host, he's now host the
- 3:54Speaker 2: Mike Check podcast of sports streaming podcast. He's been talking
- 3:59Speaker 2: to his three or four times during the playoffs and
- 4:01Speaker 2: talking to us about how the Knicks unite the city.
- 4:03Speaker 2: The Brooklyn Nets are not I mean, they're barely a blip. Yeah,
- 4:07Speaker 2: they rose up a few years ago, but they're compared
- 4:09Speaker 2: to the Knicks, not even close. Of course, they used
- 4:12Speaker 2: to be in New Jersey and the Meadowlands. They recently
- 4:15Speaker 2: moved back and playing in Brooklyn. But unlike baseball, the
- 4:18Speaker 2: Mets and Yankees fans divide baseball allegiances or football Giants
- 4:23Speaker 2: and Jets, although far more Giants fans in my time
- 4:26Speaker 2: going to school with the New York area, far more
- 4:29Speaker 2: Giants fans the Jets, but they tend to split, of course,
- 4:32Speaker 2: the fan allegiance of the sport, but not so with
- 4:35Speaker 2: the Knicks, I mean basketball Knicks and Keith Macpherson talking
- 4:40Speaker 2: to us from New York City about how unifying the
- 4:42Speaker 2: Knicks in particular are Go ahead, Keiths, We'll get you back.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Yeah, call dropped, you know, across the country, but I'm back.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I'm not sure where I left off, but I was
- 4:51Speaker 1: talking about the significance of the championship for generations of
- 4:55Speaker 1: fans and then the city. You know, I've been up
- 4:57Speaker 1: here since twenty fourteen, and we've gone through COVID, We've
- 5:01Speaker 1: gone through this political climate since twenty sixteen, We've gone
- 5:06Speaker 1: through wars and all types of even like you know, attacks,
- 5:10Speaker 1: and you know, there just was a stabbing and penn station.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Like there's just a lot of crazy things that go
- 5:16Speaker 1: on in New York City that make us all kind
- 5:19Speaker 1: of you know, look around and look over our shoulders
- 5:21Speaker 1: and be worried about things. And the Knicks run the
- 5:26Speaker 1: watch parties and the bars being alive, and the clubs
- 5:30Speaker 1: being alive, and just the unity in the city and
- 5:33Speaker 1: people talking to each other once again. Just Nixon five,
- 5:36Speaker 1: Nixon four, Let's go, Niggs go New York, Go, New
- 5:39Speaker 1: York Go. You're seeing that everywhere. You're seeing Nicks logos
- 5:42Speaker 1: and paraphernalia and merts everywhere. I think it's the most
- 5:45Speaker 1: significant because all of those things combined.
- 5:50Speaker 3: I'm curious there, what would you say, based on this
- 5:54Speaker 3: entire season was the pinpoint? The biggest factor for the
- 5:58Speaker 3: Knicks winning the title was Jalen Brentson's leadership, Leon Rose roster,
- 6:03Speaker 3: construction of some of the guys you mentioned, Kat Bridges
- 6:07Speaker 3: or Mike Brown's coaching, and this team's resilience to win
- 6:11Speaker 3: in comeback fashion, because every single game they were down,
- 6:14Speaker 3: they found a way to come back and win.
- 6:18Speaker 1: You know, shout out to Tom Thibodeau because he made
- 6:22Speaker 1: this team tough, he made this team gritty, and the
- 6:24Speaker 1: way that you see them play at the end of
- 6:26Speaker 1: the games like that was him. He wouldn't take them out.
- 6:30Speaker 1: No lead was safe in his mind. But what they
- 6:32Speaker 1: realized with him was that he would leave his starters
- 6:35Speaker 1: in for so long. There was too much tread on
- 6:38Speaker 1: the tires, too many miles on these guys' legs. He
- 6:41Speaker 1: would literally play Brunton and Cat and Hart and Michale
- 6:45Speaker 1: and Oji like he would play these guys the entire game.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Eight points, ten points is not safe to him. So
- 6:50Speaker 1: I want to start there with that. But then they
- 6:52Speaker 1: followed the NBA model of firing a head coach and
- 6:55Speaker 1: bringing in a first year head coach, and they checked
- 6:58Speaker 1: on everybody else's coach. They wanted Kidd, they wanted Quinn Snyder,
- 7:03Speaker 1: you know, they wanted Billy Donovan. And then they ended
- 7:05Speaker 1: up with Mike Brown. And they gave Mike Brown a
- 7:08Speaker 1: better bench, and Mike Brown changed their style of offense
- 7:11Speaker 1: and through the season played guys like Landry Shammitt. Duce McBride,
- 7:16Speaker 1: played guys off the bench so that they would get
- 7:19Speaker 1: reps like Jordan Clarkson, even a Jeremy Sohon who joins
- 7:23Speaker 1: the team like these guys would be ready, Ariel huck Forty,
- 7:26Speaker 1: Mitchell Robinson, so this year, I think everyone knew, Okay,
- 7:31Speaker 1: they are going to have the legs, they're going to
- 7:33Speaker 1: be rested. They won the NBA Cup and that was
- 7:35Speaker 1: the first look into like, okay, championship, medal, championship caliber team.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Then they ended up facing the same team that they
- 7:42Speaker 1: beaten the Cup and they become the first team ever
- 7:44Speaker 1: to win the Cup and win the title, and they
- 7:46Speaker 1: did not raise a banner for that NBA Cup. James
- 7:49Speaker 1: Dolan went on my station WFAN and he literally said,
- 7:52Speaker 1: we're not raising that banner. We planned on raising another banner.
- 7:56Speaker 1: It was written. They all knew it, they all focused
- 7:59Speaker 1: on it. They locked in, and I think the biggest
- 8:00Speaker 1: thing they got over was like trade rumors of Giannis
- 8:03Speaker 1: or moving a guy or you know, a lot of
- 8:05Speaker 1: heat was coming mckel bridge's way. They locked in, and
- 8:09Speaker 1: for me, once I saw how they played after that
- 8:12Speaker 1: second loss against the Hawks, I'm like, Oh, they're gonna
- 8:15Speaker 1: steam roll everybody. They're gonna beat everybody. They are the
- 8:18Speaker 1: most senior veteran, just locked in team, and they've done
- 8:24Speaker 1: it now in a historic way. They had the highest
- 8:25Speaker 1: point differential in NBA history on this run.
- 8:28Speaker 2: And they did it while trailing by double digits in
- 8:31Speaker 2: every game of the five in the finals against the Spurs,
- 8:34Speaker 2: Jalen brunts are really cool scene Keith on the stage
- 8:37Speaker 2: after winning Game five in the title and getting the
- 8:40Speaker 2: MVP trophy to bring his dad, Rick Brunson. We've talked
- 8:42Speaker 2: about him and the assistant coach for the Knicks, who
- 8:45Speaker 2: himself a former NBA player, Brunson. In particular, though Jaalon Brunson,
- 8:50Speaker 2: they sent Wembin Yama after him, They sent double teams
- 8:53Speaker 2: after him. He would split double teams, he'd fall away
- 8:56Speaker 2: shots in the lay. What in particular that Brunson did
- 8:59Speaker 2: that the Spur had no answer for? And what did
- 9:01Speaker 2: Brunton show you in the finals in particular.
- 9:06Speaker 1: He's a lion, He's a dog. He's got the heart
- 9:08Speaker 1: of a champion. He's the smallest guy on the floor,
- 9:11Speaker 1: but he's the most polished. You know, you can't measure
- 9:15Speaker 1: his heart with his height. And when it's closing time,
- 9:19Speaker 1: he's the clutch player of the year from twenty twenty five.
- 9:21Speaker 1: He's a killer. He's Mamba like he's Jordan like you know,
- 9:26Speaker 1: we all knew because if you watch the Knicks like
- 9:28Speaker 1: we all do around here, for years. We knew it
- 9:31Speaker 1: was closing time. We knew if they're in striking distance,
- 9:34Speaker 1: with striking distance for them, even if you go back
- 9:36Speaker 1: last year when they beat the Celtics, they were down
- 9:39Speaker 1: both of those first two games twenty points and they
- 9:42Speaker 1: didn't worry. They know that in the fourth quarter, if
- 9:45Speaker 1: it's closed, they're gonna make every play, every possession, every stop,
- 9:50Speaker 1: and Brunton is not gonna miss too much. So I
- 9:53Speaker 1: just knew. And I actually did a live stream with
- 9:55Speaker 1: Mitchell Anets and I called it. I was ten points
- 9:57Speaker 1: off on the total, but I didn't know he was
- 9:59Speaker 1: gonna half the points. He had forty five points. He
- 10:01Speaker 1: had half the team's points for the most part. But
- 10:03Speaker 1: I said, listen, Brunch is gonna have thirty five points.
- 10:06Speaker 1: He's gonna lead them to victory down the stretch and
- 10:08Speaker 1: b MVP. I've seen this episode before. He's got no
- 10:11Speaker 1: problem doing this on his own, and that's exactly what
- 10:14Speaker 1: he did. Wemby and Castle. Those guys, they're boys, their babies,
- 10:18Speaker 1: they're young, and I hope they learned something from what
- 10:20Speaker 1: they saw in these veterans, specifically Jalen Brunson. They went
- 10:24Speaker 1: out sad, they went out low class. They went out
- 10:27Speaker 1: in the way that you teach kids to not go out,
- 10:30Speaker 1: you know, shake hands when it's done, and go meet
- 10:32Speaker 1: the media and don't have an attitude. You took an
- 10:35Speaker 1: l You got the gentleman sweep. You know, they'll have
- 10:37Speaker 1: to figure it out in the offseason. But again, kudos
- 10:39Speaker 1: to Jalen Brunton, the leader of that team and the
- 10:41Speaker 1: cast of characters around him.
- 10:43Speaker 2: I was gonna ask you about that, Keith. Do you
- 10:45Speaker 2: just chuck up when and Yama stomping off the court
- 10:47Speaker 2: without shaking hands as youth, what'd you make of.
- 10:51Speaker 1: That immature green a baby? They said he was an alien,
- 10:58Speaker 1: he's baby Yoda if he's any I look at this
- 11:01Speaker 1: guy and I'm like, yo. They just said he's the
- 11:05Speaker 1: best player in the world, the face of the league
- 11:07Speaker 1: going into this final series, and he wilted over and
- 11:11Speaker 1: over and over again, whether it was miss free throws,
- 11:13Speaker 1: whether it was turnovers, whether it was clanking shots off
- 11:16Speaker 1: the rim or the backboard. Not there yet. He's twenty
- 11:20Speaker 1: two years old. He's a freak. You know, he's trained
- 11:22Speaker 1: with monks and he does all his other stuff. Yeah, well,
- 11:25Speaker 1: you better get in the gym. Lift some weights, but
- 11:27Speaker 1: really he's got to work on himself mentally upstairs, he's
- 11:30Speaker 1: got to work on himself and being a professional, being
- 11:34Speaker 1: a pro and literally grow up like this was the
- 11:38Speaker 1: Varsity versus jv when it came winning time, when it
- 11:41Speaker 1: came to closing time, at the end of the game,
- 11:43Speaker 1: and the way that Wemby carried himself, that's not who
- 11:46Speaker 1: you won. Is the face of the league? The way
- 11:48Speaker 1: that Wenby, even at the end of the press conference,
- 11:50Speaker 1: he goes, see you guys, never, what are you talking about? Bro?
- 11:53Speaker 1: See you guys never? You're the face of the league.
- 11:55Speaker 1: You're twenty two, You're gonna play for another fifteen years.
- 11:58Speaker 1: You see a lot of media. You better earn how
- 12:00Speaker 1: to handle yourself. You better go shake hands when you lose.
- 12:03Speaker 1: That's gonna stay with you for a long time. That
- 12:05Speaker 1: you walked off the court a sore loser after getting
- 12:08Speaker 1: the gentleman broom.
- 12:10Speaker 3: I'm curious you said face of the league. Does Jalen
- 12:13Speaker 3: Brunton hold that spotlight now? Or are you saying that
- 12:17Speaker 3: other guys are worthy of it as well? But I
- 12:19Speaker 3: thought Jalen he might be the face of the league.
- 12:22Speaker 3: What are your thoughts on it.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Well. I mean, I would say that the face of
- 12:26Speaker 1: the league is SGA after winning back to back MVPs.
- 12:30Speaker 1: But when by defeating him, they immediately put this kid
- 12:33Speaker 1: on the on the throne, they crowned him. Yeah, and
- 12:36Speaker 1: everybody told us all playoffs doesn't matter who comes out
- 12:39Speaker 1: of the West, or it doesn't matter. You know, if
- 12:43Speaker 1: the Knicks win, they won't they won't beat whoever comes
- 12:45Speaker 1: out of the West. Okay, I just look at it
- 12:48Speaker 1: like this. Now Brunston is King of New York. They're
- 12:51Speaker 1: talking about building a statue for him. And I just
- 12:55Speaker 1: was listening to something. I'm a huge Yankee fan and
- 12:57Speaker 1: I love Derek Jeter. I came up on Derek Jeter.
- 12:59Speaker 1: They're already saying, and he's Jeter now. And I had
- 13:01Speaker 1: a take where I was like, slow down. Jeter came
- 13:04Speaker 1: out Rookie of the Year. Jeter came out, won five rings.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Brunston has to win one. Before we even have the conversation,
- 13:10Speaker 1: They're like, nope, he's a new Derek Jeter. He's on
- 13:12Speaker 1: Good Morning America, he's everywhere. You know. This is iconic.
- 13:16Speaker 1: So I think because of Madison Square Garden, the mecca
- 13:19Speaker 1: of basketball, the size of the New York Knicks fan base.
- 13:22Speaker 1: How everybody you know talks about New York City and
- 13:26Speaker 1: him being everywhere and his dad and everybody learning the
- 13:29Speaker 1: story about him and what Becky Hammond had to say
- 13:31Speaker 1: about him. It's literally the like story of like, you know,
- 13:35Speaker 1: don't let people underestimate you and count you out. Anything
- 13:38Speaker 1: is possible. He is gonna be the face of the
- 13:40Speaker 1: league right now. And if people are sick of the
- 13:42Speaker 1: New York Knicks, they better get get ready for a
- 13:45Speaker 1: long summer. They're gonna be everywhere. They're the Beatles now,
- 13:47Speaker 1: those five guys the paratest Thursday, and this is gonna
- 13:50Speaker 1: carry on all the way through this summer. It's lit
- 13:53Speaker 1: for New York.
- 13:54Speaker 2: All right, Keith. Every time someone wins a title, it's
- 13:56Speaker 2: can they run it back? And man, they're coming right back,
- 13:59Speaker 2: And then it rarely happens. It's it's tough to do
- 14:01Speaker 2: to repeat. Everyone guns for everyone, studies, you guys get paid.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Who's in danger of leaving? Who are they gonna make
- 14:09Speaker 2: a priority to bring back? It's all around Brunson, of course,
- 14:12Speaker 2: but who in the supporting cast could be leaving? And
- 14:15Speaker 2: Kenna Nick's run it back? With almost the same.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Crew Mitchell Robinson, but I feel like he's such a
- 14:22Speaker 1: part of the fabric of this team. He's he's the
- 14:25Speaker 1: longest tenured nick. He had a huge rebound at the
- 14:29Speaker 1: end of that game that was just such a typical like,
- 14:31Speaker 1: that's why he's there, Mitchell Robinson is that That's why
- 14:34Speaker 1: Mitchell Robinson is the guy that they could potentially lose.
- 14:36Speaker 1: But I think they're gonna do what they can to
- 14:37Speaker 1: bring him back back. And Mitch his personality, he don't
- 14:40Speaker 1: want to go anywhere. He's gonna he's gonna work with
- 14:43Speaker 1: them to get that done. Landry Shammitt got hurt at
- 14:47Speaker 1: the end of the game, where I was like, wait
- 14:48Speaker 1: a minute, now, let's see what this does, you know,
- 14:51Speaker 1: because without Landry, everybody really knows it's only Brunton that's
- 14:54Speaker 1: gonna score the ball. Landry Shammont will probably disappear somewhere.
- 14:58Speaker 1: But for the most part, they're intact, right Michel Bridges,
- 15:02Speaker 1: og Nanobi, Karl Anthony Town still has some time, Brunton
- 15:06Speaker 1: is not going anywhere, Heart is not going anywhere. They're
- 15:08Speaker 1: pretty much intact with their starting five and even some
- 15:11Speaker 1: of the younger guys on the bench, they could potentially
- 15:14Speaker 1: run it back in the East. I just had this
- 15:17Speaker 1: conversation on my own show. We always do this as
- 15:19Speaker 1: an immediate conversation. Are we watching the birth of a dynasty?
- 15:23Speaker 1: I would just say this, the NBA has so much parody. Now,
- 15:27Speaker 1: what is it like the last eight nine years as
- 15:29Speaker 1: a different champion. I wouldn't bet on them to run
- 15:31Speaker 1: it back and win it, but maybe they could be
- 15:33Speaker 1: back in the championship. But now I'm looking at the
- 15:36Speaker 1: Pacers that'll get Haliburton back? And where's Gianni's gonna go?
- 15:39Speaker 1: And what are the Celtics gonna look like? And who
- 15:42Speaker 1: knows the Pistons maybe they grow up some more. And
- 15:45Speaker 1: the Cavs are trying to run it back with the
- 15:47Speaker 1: guys that they have. It's hard to win in the NBA.
- 15:50Speaker 1: It's hard to go back to back in the NBA.
- 15:53Speaker 1: So I would just, you know, kind of pause on
- 15:55Speaker 1: the Knicks being a dynasty and winning back to back
- 15:57Speaker 1: champions championships, just you know, living them being champions right now.
- 16:02Speaker 1: It's hard to go back to back in this modern
- 16:04Speaker 1: day MDA.
- 16:05Speaker 3: How many times are you caught yelling at the TV
- 16:07Speaker 3: because Karl Anthony Towns is committing silly fouls because I'm
- 16:10Speaker 3: not gonna lie. I was very upset and how he
- 16:13Speaker 3: finished Game five with fouling out. But to give him credit,
- 16:17Speaker 3: he was balling throughout the playoffs. I thought in the
- 16:19Speaker 3: finals he really attacked the rim and was more aggressive.
- 16:22Speaker 3: It wasn't settling, but I think he just got caught
- 16:24Speaker 3: in the moment and just committed too many silly fouls.
- 16:26Speaker 4: So was you yelling at the TV like I was?
- 16:30Speaker 1: Now, I'm just used to it, Like I said, part
- 16:32Speaker 1: of the job being, you know, the first voice on
- 16:34Speaker 1: the night in New York for these last couple of
- 16:36Speaker 1: years with the Knicks, Like you know, you gotta watch
- 16:39Speaker 1: every game, and he gets into foul trouble early, they
- 16:42Speaker 1: hunt him. Yeah, it was funny. My wife said about him,
- 16:45Speaker 1: like like how many how many fouls does Carl Anthony
- 16:47Speaker 1: Towns have? I'm like, he got five. You got the sound.
- 16:49Speaker 1: But I'm used to that with him. He's he's just
- 16:52Speaker 1: like a little bit of loof and goofy and sometimes
- 16:55Speaker 1: can't control his big body. But yeah, he came up
- 16:57Speaker 1: clutching this series the first two game as people were
- 17:00Speaker 1: saying he was going to be MVP. Shout to Carl
- 17:02Speaker 1: Anton Towns. I'm from Jersey. He's from Jersey, and I
- 17:05Speaker 1: literally just learned yesterday that his dad played at my
- 17:09Speaker 1: college where I played football. Like, how come nobody ever told.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Me that, Keith, enjoy the parade. We appreciate all you've
- 17:17Speaker 2: given us out here in Seattle, the New York flavor
- 17:19Speaker 2: of the NIXT run and don't don't burn a bus
- 17:21Speaker 2: or anything Thursday.
- 17:22Speaker 1: All right, No, I'm not like that. Like I said,
- 17:25Speaker 1: I got out of there between the World Cup chaos
- 17:28Speaker 1: and the Knicks fan chaos at ten o'clock. I put
- 17:30Speaker 1: two and two together. I'm like, I'm going to be
- 17:32Speaker 1: trapped here. I live in Hoboken, which is one stop
- 17:34Speaker 1: away from downtown. I'm like, I'm crossing the river. I'm out.
- 17:37Speaker 1: This is going to be out of control. So thanks
- 17:39Speaker 1: for having me, guys. I appreciate it, and shout everybody
- 17:42Speaker 1: out there in Washington. I did pick up a couple
- 17:44Speaker 1: followers and some people that hurt me on this show
- 17:46Speaker 1: that kind of went out and look for me, So
- 17:49Speaker 1: that's odd. I appreciate it.
- 17:50Speaker 2: I appreciate thanks. Give Keith McPherson for WFEN host now
- 17:56Speaker 2: hosts of the mic Check streaming show. As he says,
- 18:00Speaker 2: it comes on the show right after Knicks games. He
- 18:02Speaker 2: was a watch party in the one of the early
- 18:04Speaker 2: finals games, talking about us of the scene in New
- 18:07Speaker 2: York and would have seen it'll be on Thursday when
- 18:10Speaker 2: they had the victory parade of ticker tape parade up
- 18:13Speaker 2: the Canyon of Heroes, they call it up Broadway from
- 18:15Speaker 2: Battery all the way up to Central Park. He brings
- 18:18Speaker 2: up a good point about eight consecutive years now in
- 18:20Speaker 2: the NBA, eight different champions. That's a league record. They
- 18:24Speaker 2: never had eight in a row with eight different champions.
- 18:27Speaker 2: That's how hard it is to repeat. If you miss
- 18:30Speaker 2: that from Keith McPherson, If you missed our talking with
- 18:32Speaker 2: mas Vita Morrera about the World Cup, you can go
- 18:34Speaker 2: the iHeartRadio app download nine through three KJR or go
- 18:38Speaker 2: to nine three three kjr dot com. Chris, we'll have
- 18:41Speaker 2: that up for you on our podcast right after the show,
- 18:43Speaker 2: up next to your chance to be a part of
- 18:44Speaker 2: the show. Asked at the top of the show, you
- 18:48Speaker 2: interested in the World Cup? You turned off, You're fired up.
- 18:50Speaker 2: American win got you fired up for the Americans and
- 18:52Speaker 2: Australians playing here in Seattle on Friday four nine four
- 18:56Speaker 2: one and to come to dot Texan Alma. Also, you're
- 18:59Speaker 2: of all the injury as the Mariners had the one
- 19:01Speaker 2: that worries you the most and why worry back your text? Next,
- 19:04Speaker 2: I'm live but Jimmy's on First, where we're about forty
- 19:07Speaker 2: minutes away from the kickoff of the first ever World
- 19:09Speaker 2: Cup game Belgium and Egypt on ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Welcome back Greg Belt Show with Christopher Kidd, live from
- 19:19Speaker 2: Jimmy's on First right along Occidento across the street from
- 19:23Speaker 2: Lumenfield called Seattle Stadium. Now, don't Joe Chris. There's a black,
- 19:28Speaker 2: black tape over black tarp over Lumens which just field
- 19:33Speaker 2: down here at the stadium for all the stadium signings
- 19:36Speaker 2: because Lumen didn't pay FIFA, so FIFA's not going to
- 19:39Speaker 2: let him ad. But we're here because Belgium and Egypt
- 19:41Speaker 2: are about to kickoff in thirty minutes time, the first
- 19:44Speaker 2: World Cup match ever in Seattle. First of six matches
- 19:47Speaker 2: four group stage. The next one is a Biggie US
- 19:51Speaker 2: and Australia Friday noon. Right back here, we'll be broadcasting
- 19:54Speaker 2: again live from Jimmy's on First you know what time
- 19:56Speaker 2: it is. Music means it's time to read back your
- 19:58Speaker 2: text at four nine four five on under the Komadage text.
- 20:01Speaker 3: Line from the five to eighty five. Hey, Greg, you've
- 20:05Speaker 3: spoken a lot about the importance of team coach from
- 20:08Speaker 3: the past, since integrating new personnel is vital to building
- 20:12Speaker 3: a cohesive unit. What does the offseason onboarding and acclamation
- 20:16Speaker 3: process look like for the Seattle Seahawks, both on and
- 20:20Speaker 3: off the practice field?
- 20:22Speaker 2: Five A five Rochester, Thanks man. Yeah, the first of all,
- 20:26Speaker 2: the all rookies go through a rookie symposium that the
- 20:29Speaker 2: league puts on, and that's a gamut of things. That's
- 20:33Speaker 2: how to manage your finances, teaching them how the fact
- 20:36Speaker 2: that NFL players only get paid during the season. I
- 20:39Speaker 2: don't know a lot of fans realize this, but NFL
- 20:42Speaker 2: players don't get paid all year long. They get paid
- 20:45Speaker 2: eighteen game checks, seventeen games plus the one bye week,
- 20:49Speaker 2: so their salary. Say, man, let's just for mass sakes,
- 20:53Speaker 2: say it's a million dollars. You get a billion divided
- 20:56Speaker 2: by eighteen over eighteen weeks of the regular season. Then
- 21:00Speaker 2: for the preseason and for offseason workouts. When you're in
- 21:03Speaker 2: the facility, you get a stipend, a daily stipend for
- 21:07Speaker 2: being there for the mandatory events. But that's it. A
- 21:11Speaker 2: lot of they've gotten better about teaching players about this,
- 21:16Speaker 2: but in the past, players would sign contracts and not
- 21:18Speaker 2: realize that they didn't get money all year long, and
- 21:20Speaker 2: they'd spend all their money during the season and then
- 21:23Speaker 2: March rolls around or whatever, and they haven't had a
- 21:25Speaker 2: check for a couple months, and they're like, what's going on.
- 21:29Speaker 2: And sometimes they would get into rears in financial little
- 21:32Speaker 2: bit of the tight spot because of that. So they
- 21:35Speaker 2: also I've talked about mo Kelly in the past, but
- 21:37Speaker 2: Moe Kelly is pretty much the big brother and dad
- 21:42Speaker 2: for the players. He's a community and engagement guy. He's
- 21:45Speaker 2: a real life guy. He sets them up with help
- 21:48Speaker 2: to get housing and connections he has in real estate.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Anything that comes up in a personal issue that they
- 21:54Speaker 2: have problems about, they go to Mota. Talk about mo Kelly.
- 21:57Speaker 2: You talk about an elmer's guy, a glue guy around
- 21:59Speaker 2: the Seahawks for onboarding and acclamation, especially new players. Guys
- 22:04Speaker 2: that get traded there in the middle of the season
- 22:06Speaker 2: talk about how instrumental mo Kelly was to get them
- 22:08Speaker 2: all their off the field stuff squared away so they
- 22:11Speaker 2: could focus on football. That's also part of the acclamation
- 22:14Speaker 2: process for the Seahawks. Mo Kelly is often everybody's MVP,
- 22:18Speaker 2: every coaching staff's MVP. He's been there, he's an institution.
- 22:22Speaker 2: He and Eric Kennedy in the equipment room or institutions.
- 22:25Speaker 2: They're spanning multiple coaching staffs. But there's a lot of
- 22:29Speaker 2: behind the scenes stuff with the Seahawks and names that
- 22:31Speaker 2: you don't necessarily are familiar with. Who are really are
- 22:35Speaker 2: I call them Elmer's guys, the blue guys who really
- 22:37Speaker 2: keep the operation going and keep the players focused on
- 22:40Speaker 2: their job because all the other stuff gets taken care
- 22:43Speaker 2: of by them.
- 22:45Speaker 3: All Right, this is from Jason now the two to
- 22:49Speaker 3: zero six. Let's see what your attitude is after getting egged.
- 22:53Speaker 3: And I think that's his response to keep talking about
- 22:57Speaker 3: shaking hands after losing and all that.
- 23:02Speaker 2: You know, until you brought up this morning, I hadn't
- 23:04Speaker 2: even really heard about it. I didn't even pay attention
- 23:06Speaker 2: to what the post was from Game five. But did
- 23:09Speaker 2: Webb and Yama just storm off the court I mean, like,
- 23:12Speaker 2: went straight to the locker room, or do you like
- 23:13Speaker 2: a show of it.
- 23:14Speaker 3: Or he just walked straight to the locker room as
- 23:16Speaker 3: soon as he lost, he just be lined. A couple
- 23:18Speaker 3: of players followed him Castle I think was one of them.
- 23:21Speaker 3: I'm not sure who all stayed on the court and
- 23:22Speaker 3: shook hands, but yeah, Winby walked off and yeah.
- 23:27Speaker 2: That was that, And then he's catching flak for it
- 23:30Speaker 2: since obviously publicly.
- 23:32Speaker 4: Uh yeah, A.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Lot of people think that you should man up and
- 23:35Speaker 3: shake hands, but I don't think. It's not a rule
- 23:39Speaker 3: we learned at a young age. It's called sportsmanship, and
- 23:42Speaker 3: when you become an adult, you can make a decision.
- 23:45Speaker 4: You got your ass.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Beat for four quarters, you lost, do you want to
- 23:48Speaker 3: go out there and shake hands? Yeah or nay? If
- 23:50Speaker 3: you do, good on you. If you don't, good on you.
- 23:53Speaker 3: I don't think it'll hurt him in any new way.
- 23:56Speaker 3: Maybe he'll learn from it and he'll do it in
- 23:57Speaker 3: the future, but it doesn't bother me. I don't take it.
- 24:03Speaker 3: If I beat you and you don't want to shake
- 24:05Speaker 3: my hand, that's fine.
- 24:06Speaker 2: I get it.
- 24:07Speaker 4: Losing is as tough as it is.
- 24:09Speaker 3: It's not fun, But to make it like it's some
- 24:12Speaker 3: rule that has been in that's just like mandatory.
- 24:16Speaker 4: Is like, eh, not really, go ahead.
- 24:20Speaker 2: I'm sorry. Here's the thing though, I mean, maybe this
- 24:22Speaker 2: could make me sound like an old dad, because I
- 24:24Speaker 2: am an old dad. But a lot of kids are
- 24:26Speaker 2: watching that. Oh, a lot of kids, and a lot
- 24:29Speaker 2: of people who are early in their competitive sports careers
- 24:32Speaker 2: are watching the NBA Final, especially on a Saturday night,
- 24:34Speaker 2: no school the next day, and they see that, and
- 24:38Speaker 2: I officiate. I coached high school. I told you, I
- 24:40Speaker 2: coach high school baseball. I officiate high school football. I
- 24:44Speaker 2: see kids all the time on the football and baseball
- 24:47Speaker 2: fields emulating what they see on television through the pros
- 24:51Speaker 2: and bat flips and strutting after a routine five yard
- 24:55Speaker 2: out catch and spinning the ball on the field for
- 24:58Speaker 2: a gain of three. And they see that on Tellby.
- 25:01Speaker 2: They're very impressionable about that stuff. So if they see women, y'all,
- 25:04Speaker 2: as Keith Macpherson told us, the face of the NBA
- 25:07Speaker 2: just walking off the court without shaking hands, they think
- 25:10Speaker 2: that's what a pro does. Some do and some will
- 25:14Speaker 2: then do the same thing, and then it's on some
- 25:16Speaker 2: parent or coach to correct that kid and say no, no, no,
- 25:18Speaker 2: that's not how you do this. I get it. As
- 25:20Speaker 2: a competitor, Chris, that probably wouldn't bother you.
- 25:23Speaker 4: I just know and not probably wouldn't I.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Growing up, I have been around guys where I was
- 25:30Speaker 3: taught for my parents to always show love even in
- 25:33Speaker 3: a tough loss. But as I got older, I'm like,
- 25:36Speaker 3: the hell with all that, you just beat me. Now,
- 25:38Speaker 3: there are ways to do it. As I mentioned, maybe
- 25:41Speaker 3: I'll do it later. I'm not saying I'll never do it.
- 25:44Speaker 3: For instance, if Wimby had walked off and then Jalen
- 25:48Speaker 3: Brunson was like, oh yeah, by the way, me and
- 25:50Speaker 3: Wimby caught up later, you just don't get to see
- 25:53Speaker 3: it per se.
- 25:54Speaker 4: So I'm not sure if he did that at all.
- 25:56Speaker 4: Maybe he didn't.
- 25:56Speaker 3: Maybe he's never going to shake hands, but he's going
- 25:59Speaker 3: to look to beat them when they play next season.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Like I get it, it's competitive, and that's another thing.
- 26:06Speaker 3: Like for boxing, it's so annoying to me that these
- 26:09Speaker 3: guys will talk smack talk about their families and then
- 26:12Speaker 3: at the end of the match, after almost trying to
- 26:13Speaker 3: kill you to tether, they hug it off. I thought
- 26:15Speaker 3: you hated that man. But I understand they're trying to
- 26:17Speaker 3: sell tickets. But if I really hate somebody, Greg, I'm
- 26:20Speaker 3: not gonna shake your hand afterwards and be like, oh,
- 26:22Speaker 3: great fight.
- 26:23Speaker 4: I'm sorry.
- 26:23Speaker 3: Now, I'm not saying Winby hates Brunson and Brunston hates him,
- 26:27Speaker 3: but there's a level of competitiveness that I have that
- 26:29Speaker 3: I'm just like, if I don't like you, I'm not
- 26:31Speaker 3: shaking your hand.
- 26:32Speaker 4: Regardless of if you beat me or I beat you.
- 26:35Speaker 4: I don't like you, so I'm not about to show
- 26:37Speaker 4: you love. I'm sorry.
- 26:39Speaker 3: But I do understand to your point, Greg, where there's
- 26:43Speaker 3: children watching, and I think parents they have to have
- 26:46Speaker 3: honest discussion like, hey, you're a child, you're playing a
- 26:49Speaker 3: sport for fun. You're not at that level where you
- 26:52Speaker 3: get to decide, oh, I don't want to shake this
- 26:53Speaker 3: person's hand. No, no, no, no, no, you're going to do that.
- 26:56Speaker 3: I think that's the discussion we should be having with
- 26:58Speaker 3: our kids. Because these guys or pros, and even in college,
- 27:02Speaker 3: I think they do it the right way. I think, yeah,
- 27:03Speaker 3: maybe you should go down the line and shake hand,
- 27:05Speaker 3: but once you become a pro, you make your own decisions.
- 27:08Speaker 4: How that reports on you.
- 27:10Speaker 1: It is what it is.
- 27:11Speaker 4: You live with that decision. So woman's gone to live
- 27:13Speaker 4: with that and maybe he'll learn from it quickly.
- 27:16Speaker 2: I wanted to mention about the World Cup tickets. It
- 27:18Speaker 2: was curious to me what the market would be like
- 27:20Speaker 2: the day of the game here in Seattle. Well, I've
- 27:23Speaker 2: been checking the last twenty minutes and you can't find
- 27:25Speaker 2: any on the secondary marked take off. They said the
- 27:28Speaker 2: event has ended. Oh my, So that's just a quick
- 27:32Speaker 2: anecdotal check of about six or seven sites, stub hub
- 27:36Speaker 2: and tickpic and name your ticketmaster, name your secondary online site.
- 27:42Speaker 2: But if you were one of those who wanted to
- 27:43Speaker 2: wait right till the last minute and see if the
- 27:45Speaker 2: prices would create, well they're gone. They're not even available
- 27:49Speaker 2: to buy, and we're still twenty minutes before kickoff. So
- 27:54Speaker 2: and I will try to find out when they went
- 27:57Speaker 2: off and see how much before a game you better
- 28:00Speaker 2: do that, and before they won't be able to do it.
- 28:02Speaker 2: For Friday, when the US and Australia play. Those tickets
- 28:05Speaker 2: have doubled. Now they were oney eleven hundred dollars last week.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Now since the US beat Paraguay, they're twenty two hundred bucks.
- 28:12Speaker 2: I'm seeing to get in price now for Friday's game.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Friday's match here at lu Midfield in Seattle. So just
- 28:18Speaker 2: a little anecdotal word. Otherwise, if you're like a lot
- 28:22Speaker 2: of friends of mine, say well, I'll just get tickets
- 28:24Speaker 2: right up the game time and the crowds are starting
- 28:27Speaker 2: to send out and headed because most of them are
- 28:29Speaker 2: in the stadium already. A crowd of expected around the
- 28:31Speaker 2: capacity of sixty six nine hundred that's the FIFA of
- 28:34Speaker 2: World Cup capacity in the stadium. A couple hundred shy
- 28:37Speaker 2: of the capacity for Seahawks games are expected to the
- 28:40Speaker 2: Belgium Egypt match twelve o'clock, first ever World Cup match.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Fans filing in behind me into the stadium right now.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Up next in for nass I believe he's back in
- 28:49Speaker 2: the studio, the Mayor and Maple Valley will join us
- 28:50Speaker 2: and tell us what's next on his show on ninety
- 28:52Speaker 2: three point three KJRFN. Welcome back to the show, Greg
- 29:00Speaker 2: Bell Show live from Jimmy's on First right across the
- 29:03Speaker 2: street from the first ever World Cup game for Belgium
- 29:06Speaker 2: and Egypt. Playing in the first World Cup game in Seattle.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Chris kidd is back in the studios and Elliott Bay,
- 29:12Speaker 2: and so is I for ness who joins us? Hello, sir, Hello,
- 29:16Speaker 2: I'm okay. I'm kind of enjoying the very eclectic scene
- 29:20Speaker 2: and vibe down here, very fun and festive. And there's
- 29:23Speaker 2: a tiny I posted it on Twitter, exit g bel Seattle.
- 29:26Speaker 2: There's a tiny little designated protest zone that the Seattle
- 29:30Speaker 2: Police have set up. It's just this, I mean maybe
- 29:34Speaker 2: ten yards by three yards rectangle. Yeah, temporary barricade. Nobody's
- 29:40Speaker 2: in it, right, It's just sport down here. You miss it?
- 29:44Speaker 2: You should be down here, man.
- 29:45Speaker 5: Well Friday, Yeah, I'm not there Friday. We have a
- 29:49Speaker 5: show Friday, so it's nice.
- 29:51Speaker 2: Actually we don't have a show Friday.
- 29:53Speaker 5: Well I don't. We're carrying the game at noon. Yeah, right,
- 29:56Speaker 5: you're off at eleven thirty. Yeah, what would be? I
- 30:02Speaker 5: drove down and drove through the waterfront just to get
- 30:05Speaker 5: here and kind of bit the bulder wasn't too bad actually,
- 30:08Speaker 5: but yeah, I mean, there's no reason for me to
- 30:10Speaker 5: be there when the game's going on next door. But
- 30:14Speaker 5: it looks awesome. I mean, it looks cool, the vibe
- 30:16Speaker 5: looks cool. We've already had an incredible upset today with
- 30:20Speaker 5: a tie with a draw.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't mention it. Yeah, zero zero cape Verde.
- 30:25Speaker 5: Where the hell is Cape Verde? And what is a
- 30:27Speaker 5: Cape Verdet? I'm like, come on, man, what is it, Kate.
- 30:30Speaker 2: It's off the west coast of Africa. Okay, coast of Senegal. Okay,
- 30:34Speaker 2: it's five hundred and thirty thousand people as the population. Wow.
- 30:38Speaker 2: And yeah, they go zero zero with one of the
- 30:40Speaker 2: tournament favorite world power Spain. It's nil nil draw.
- 30:45Speaker 5: They just blew up a ton of people's betting slips.
- 30:47Speaker 5: I can tell you that right now.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Yeah, for individual match being yeah, I mean, Spain's gonna advance,
- 30:52Speaker 2: and it's.
- 30:52Speaker 5: Right, right right. But like the early parlays, are different
- 30:55Speaker 5: things going on. There's a lot of juice on these games.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Suddenly, the US Australia game Friday here Ian is a
- 31:02Speaker 2: big deal because both teams won their opener. Yeah, the
- 31:04Speaker 2: winner of that game, the winner that match Friday gets
- 31:07Speaker 2: control of the group and could have a really favorable
- 31:09Speaker 2: round thirty two seat. And I mentioned it earlier. People
- 31:12Speaker 2: don't know if the US wins their group, and they
- 31:16Speaker 2: probably would get, like I said, a third place team
- 31:18Speaker 2: in that round of thirty two, the round of sixteen
- 31:20Speaker 2: match for the US if they win their group is
- 31:22Speaker 2: back here in Seattle.
- 31:23Speaker 5: Wow, okay, it.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Could be against Belgium if it goes out that way.
- 31:26Speaker 5: How was just for those that are gonna make their
- 31:29Speaker 5: way down there, like as a public service? How was
- 31:32Speaker 5: getting there for you?
- 31:34Speaker 2: I got here mas Vitamurrara and I drove in from
- 31:37Speaker 2: the Green Lake and we got here about eight fifteen,
- 31:40Speaker 2: and the roads were closed by then. They'd already set
- 31:43Speaker 2: up a barricade on First Avenue of a metal white barricade,
- 31:46Speaker 2: like you know, it was legit, so they it cut
- 31:50Speaker 2: it off right at the corner of Edgar Martinez driving
- 31:54Speaker 2: First Avenue South. That's where First Avenue South was closed.
- 31:56Speaker 2: You couldn't go north or there. So the parking for
- 31:59Speaker 2: the media was the Mariners, A lot south of the Mariners.
- 32:02Speaker 5: You had media parkings.
- 32:03Speaker 2: You're okay, I didn't, but did. Yeah, But anecdotally I'm
- 32:08Speaker 2: hearing that the light rail is the way to go.
- 32:10Speaker 5: I don't know about that. I'll be honest with you. Yeah,
- 32:13Speaker 5: Like I I drove by their first of all, like
- 32:18Speaker 5: we're well, we most of us, most of us don't
- 32:21Speaker 5: have light rail. I mean, if we're being honest, like
- 32:23Speaker 5: most people, the majority of this city doesn't have it.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Like if you live in West, live in north, South
- 32:28Speaker 2: or East corridor, Yeah that's.
- 32:30Speaker 5: Yeah, right, Like if you live west, you live north
- 32:33Speaker 5: or I mean say north, but south far enough east right,
- 32:36Speaker 5: just yeah, it's it's we have. We still the worst
- 32:39Speaker 5: public transportation of any city I've ever lived in, by
- 32:41Speaker 5: by a lot, like not even close Salt Lake so much. Yeah,
- 32:46Speaker 5: but that's like saying you're the tallest short person. It's awful.
- 32:50Speaker 2: I'm spoiled I live, yeah, I.
- 32:53Speaker 5: Mean, but most people don't. I mean that's just like
- 32:54Speaker 5: if you look at the density of our country, of
- 32:56Speaker 5: our city. And so I drove by Sea Tack because
- 33:00Speaker 5: I come by that way all the time where there's
- 33:02Speaker 5: a light rail station there. There's also an Angel Lake
- 33:05Speaker 5: right down south, and i've traffic was crazy, like it
- 33:10Speaker 5: was nuts, and I'm don't and I drive by that
- 33:13Speaker 5: every day. I don't think it was flights. I'm sure
- 33:15Speaker 5: people were trying to do that, like jump and light
- 33:17Speaker 5: The problem in light rail there's no parking it those
- 33:18Speaker 5: like the one at Cetech there's zero parking. Like zero parking.
- 33:22Speaker 5: On a good day, there's zero parking. So yeah, I mean,
- 33:25Speaker 5: I know it's I always like when our media, especially
- 33:27Speaker 5: the TV people, Oh, you know, take transportation, take a by.
- 33:30Speaker 5: If I took a bus, i'd have to leave it
- 33:32Speaker 5: four in the morning to get to Seattle. And we
- 33:35Speaker 5: have a parking ride in Maple Valley that has a
- 33:37Speaker 5: guy sitting there with a little sign that says, you know,
- 33:39Speaker 5: World Cup Transportation. I'm like, okay, buddy, like super like
- 33:44Speaker 5: you drove you take a bus from there to Kent Station.
- 33:47Speaker 5: My my son's daw my son's girlfriend. She's interning at
- 33:52Speaker 5: a law firm or actually not with a judge. Actually
- 33:54Speaker 5: it Kent normally Ailing Center and they kept people home
- 33:57Speaker 5: today because it's it's so crazy, like the light rail parking,
- 34:02Speaker 5: there's no place to park for the people down there
- 34:04Speaker 5: and stuff like that. So I'm glad you got down.
- 34:06Speaker 5: I think I figured it if I was going to go,
- 34:08Speaker 5: I think I figured out how. But I'm not going
- 34:10Speaker 5: to give that information up just in case I ever do.
- 34:12Speaker 5: But uh, it looked awesome down there, Greg. It looked
- 34:16Speaker 5: the vibe just driving on the wall because I want
- 34:17Speaker 5: to drive the waterfront it looked. I was like, damn,
- 34:20Speaker 5: I wish I didn't have a stupid show right now
- 34:22Speaker 5: because I want to go to this game. And I
- 34:25Speaker 5: don't care about beja Elgem actually Belgium. I kind of
- 34:28Speaker 5: they're kind of a fun team Egypt, you know whatever.
- 34:30Speaker 5: But I I'm looking at inside the stadium right now
- 34:32Speaker 5: they're showing it and all I see is lower level.
- 34:35Speaker 5: It is jam packed, like jam packed. I can't tell
- 34:38Speaker 5: upper level. Can't see is it because like most like,
- 34:42Speaker 5: we've had a lot of empty seats around the country,
- 34:44Speaker 5: so that this looks like it's Seattle's a soccer town. Man.
- 34:49Speaker 5: Of course it's going to be full, which is awesome,
- 34:50Speaker 5: really cool.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Yea, I was told they're expecting the crowd approaching the
- 34:54Speaker 2: capacity of sixty six.
- 34:56Speaker 5: I want Seattle to show out.
- 34:57Speaker 2: Let's go, let's do it, and then Friday's gonna be
- 34:59Speaker 2: off the hook. Take out a.
- 35:01Speaker 5: Second mortgage if you want to go to.
- 35:02Speaker 2: That game exactly. The prices went from eleven twenty two
- 35:05Speaker 2: hundred after the US won their match Friday.
- 35:07Speaker 5: Well, and like you said, with Australia winning too, like
- 35:09Speaker 5: that's right, you win. Whoever wins Friday is is onto
- 35:13Speaker 5: the second round, right yeah, yeah, yeah, right, yeah, I
- 35:16Speaker 5: under stays yah, yeah, because you're you'll finish no worse
- 35:18Speaker 5: than second in the in the in the group. So yeah,
- 35:20Speaker 5: you're onto the second round. So that's a massive Okay,
- 35:22Speaker 5: I'm looking more of a wide shot right now. Oh yeah,
- 35:26Speaker 5: oh yeah, it's.
- 35:27Speaker 2: And most of it's red. Yes, both teams are red.
- 35:31Speaker 2: But the Red Devils in Belgium, they just marched down.
- 35:33Speaker 5: The only the only place it's not jammed right now.
- 35:36Speaker 5: There's a few spotted looks like a few empty seats
- 35:39Speaker 5: in the hawk's nest. But you're just getting beaten upon
- 35:42Speaker 5: by the sun right now, So I can understand that.
- 35:45Speaker 5: Go last second. The spectacle of the two flags on
- 35:48Speaker 5: the field and the player it is.
- 35:50Speaker 2: It is.
- 35:50Speaker 5: What a cool scene, man, what an absolute kick ass scene.
- 35:54Speaker 5: I can't wait. You're lucky man getting in there. That's
- 35:56Speaker 5: that's worked for you today, for you and Moz, that's work.
- 35:59Speaker 2: It is spoiled. My son is my soccer love and son,
- 36:02Speaker 2: my soccer playing son is just inviews. What do you
- 36:05Speaker 2: got going today?
- 36:06Speaker 5: Well, we'll talk a little bit about this, just a
- 36:08Speaker 5: whole a spectacle of it, and honestly, you know, and
- 36:11Speaker 5: we live in a day and age of negativity with sports,
- 36:15Speaker 5: and we've tried to finally what's wrong. This has been
- 36:17Speaker 5: pretty cool. I know FIFA is corrupt and all kinds
- 36:19Speaker 5: of stuff. I think what's going on here is pretty
- 36:21Speaker 5: cool in our country and especially in our city. We'll
- 36:23Speaker 5: touch it on that a little bit. Anders will give
- 36:24Speaker 5: us a little low down since he and Jackson are
- 36:26Speaker 5: spirit hitting all of our I heart coverage on what
- 36:28Speaker 5: you we just talked about a little bit, the big upset,
- 36:31Speaker 5: what that means Today We're gonna molly wop at one
- 36:33Speaker 5: o'clock we'll talk put a recap on what's what went
- 36:36Speaker 5: on obviously over the weekend with the NBA and NHL
- 36:38Speaker 5: finals as well, So all of that's coming up.
- 36:41Speaker 2: And forness Anderson Hurst joining you from noon until three.
- 36:43Speaker 2: I'm heading across the street into the stadium to watch
