- 0:45SPEAKER_01: Hi, and welcome to another episode of Rise Up, Live Joy Your Way, whether it's morning, afternoon, or evening.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: Thank you for taking some time out of your day to spend with me.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: And today I want to talk about how you are actually the boss of your own life.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Sometimes I know it's difficult for us to remember that we are actually our own boss, we are actually our own CEO.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: Oftentimes I think we feel like we're being run by the things that we have to get done or the people that we are trying to take care of.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: You know, you get calls constantly every single day and pulls on your energy and pulls on your time and your focus and your attention.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: But the question really becomes who's making those decisions?
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: And am I actually taking charge of my own, my own life?
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: And it's important to have your own sort of power moves, if you will, that will help you lead your life.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: So the very first thing that you can do to start uh taking ownership of your life and really being your own boss is to take stock of what's going on, right?
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: Think of your life uh more as a business, if you will, right?
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: So a successful business doesn't just succeed by accident.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: There are uh there's planning, there's strategy, there's regular check-ins and reviews on what is working and what is not working.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: And then when we find something that is working well, we continue to do it when we're running a business.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: And when we find something that's not working well, we ask ourselves what adjustments need to be made.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: And we can apply this to our life as well.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: So when we're taking stock of what's going on in our personal life, it is about taking a look at, you know, what what are the daily routines that you inhabits that you lean into?
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: What are the commitments that you're making?
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: And uh for instance, what are you saying yes to?
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: And also kind of taking a look at am I saying no to things that maybe I might want to say no to?
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: And also taking a look at your relationships.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: What relationships are feeding you in a healthy way, and maybe what relationships might be draining you?
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: So you can ask yourself those really important questions.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: What's really adding value to my life?
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: What's really bringing me joy?
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: What brings me more energy versus drains my energy?
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: And let's keep in mind, we're not trying to be mean or selfish about this.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: This is about coming forth with looking at your life with some intentionality and really bringing to the awareness what is truly working and what is not, because what's truly working means that it's serving you.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: And what's not means that it's not serving you in the way that you need.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: And if we can take a look at this overview of what's happening, right?
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: We almost look at it like with a bird's eye view.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: We actually give ourselves permission to own the ability to make changes, to lean into our value system rather than just um live our life on autopilot.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: So it's important for us to just bring those things to our awareness.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: And I've said this many times in many different episodes that awareness is that that doorway to change, right?
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: And then it's up to you to decide how you want to change.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: So the second thing that I want to bring up is to just kind of have your own personal mission statement, have your own intentional statement.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: This is what I want for myself.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: You know, oftentimes businesses will have a mission statement for the business.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: Well, why can't you have that for your own life as well?
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: Maybe we don't call it a mission statement, but when we say it's a personal vision.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: And that personal vision can change over time.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: It's not to say this is my personal vision and that's the end all be all forever and always, because, you know, your needs are going to shift over time, your values might shift over time, your goals are going to shift over time.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: But allowing yourself to have that for yourself at this and at this point in time, saying, this is my vision, this is my intention for myself right now, allows you to identify where your values are, allows you to identify where your goals are and an ability to set those intentions for yourself.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: The other thing that, you know, oftentimes we'll say, um, you know, I'll hear people constantly talk about their to-do list and it's never getting done.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: And I will often challenge people to look at and create for themselves a completed list or a done list.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: Because oftentimes when we have the to-do list, we beat ourselves up for not what's not getting done.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: And so part of taking ownership of your life is also acknowledging and having gratitude and uh celebration of the things that you haven't you have gotten completed rather than only looking at what you haven't done.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: Which leads me to also creating a list of maybe um stop, a list of I'm not gonna do this anymore.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: This is leaning into this idea of setting boundaries for yourself.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: But when we're taking ownership of our life, we need to also give ourselves permission to identify either activities or commitments or patterns that we no longer want to continue doing.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: They're not serving us, they distract us, they drain us, they uh don't add to our overall well-being.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: That allows you to take ownership and reclaim your time as well as your energy, which is so important for your physical health and also your mental and emotional health.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: And then, of course, it's you know, it's about um taking time to pay attention to what what you are spending your time doing.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: So often I hear people saying, I just don't have enough time in the day.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: And it's really important if you're gonna take ownership of your life, is to pay attention to where you are spending your time.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Where's that output going?
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: Many of us will pay attention to where we're spending our money, but we don't pay attention to where we're spending our time, which does it does lean back into boundaries.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: Where are we saying yes, where we need to say no?
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: But it is about taking stock and ownership of am I spending time doing things that actually bring me closer to where I want to be, either goal-wise or uh relationship-wise, or even just overall life satisfaction-wise.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: You know, when we think about how we're spending our time, often, often we will look back and say to ourselves, where did all that time just go?
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: And it's because we are not being conscious or owning what we're actually choosing to do.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: I say this routinely to my clients, which is you really do have the power to step into your own self-leadership.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: And what that means is you are taking ownership of the choices that you're making and making sure that they are aligned with your values and your needs and not just not just running on autopilot or running on the idea that you know you need to do X, Y, and Z because somebody expects it of you or you're doing it for their validation.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: So if you're thinking about how do you get started, even just spend some time visualizing, you know, what would be my ideal day?
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: Well, how would I want to spend my time today?
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: What would bring me the most joy?
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: What would be aligned with my values?
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: And just see if you can create that in your own mind's eye.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: And then go through the steps, as we talked about, of just, you know, taking that, doing that audit, taking time to figure out where you're spending most of your time, you know, where are you spending your energy?
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: Where are you saying yes instead of saying no?
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: What fills you up versus drains you?
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: These are really important questions to ask yourself if you're going to start taking ownership of your own day as well as your own life and become your own self-leader.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: If this is a topic that you feel like coaching could help you with, is how do I do this?
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: How do I start taking ownership and agency back from maybe feeling like you're an autopilot or feeling like you're constantly chasing the validation of others?
