- 0:00Speaker 1: Let's go to Miami for just a few moments. Miami
- 0:03Speaker 1: beats Florida State in double overtime, 43-35. I was down
- 0:09Speaker 1: in South Florida for this one.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Fun night.
- 0:13Speaker 1: It almost got even crazier than it already was. Cole
- 0:18Speaker 1: and I picked this, Tom, this week, presented by PrizePix.
- 0:21Speaker 3: And.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Neither one of us had this super close. I went
- 0:24Speaker 1: on State of the State. None of us had it
- 0:26Speaker 1: very close. I went on Double Fries No Slaw. None
- 0:28Speaker 1: of us had it very close. Every Canes person that
- 0:31Speaker 1: I went on their show this week, none of us had.
- 0:33Speaker 2: It very close.
- 0:35Speaker 1: And then football happened. So I've talked about this kind
- 0:38Speaker 1: of ad nauseum. Obviously, the last two plays will get
- 0:41Speaker 1: brought up. Maybe that's a good place to start because
- 0:43Speaker 1: I've given my opinion. I think the hold was probably
- 0:46Speaker 1: a bad call. I think the interception was hard to see.
- 0:49Speaker 1: And I don't anybody that anybody that has a definitive
- 0:53Speaker 1: answer on what happened on the interception touchdown is probably
- 0:56Speaker 1: speaking with some level of bias. I, even as a
- 1:00Speaker 1: FSU guy that tries to be somewhat unbiased, I can,
- 1:03Speaker 1: I can see pretty good arguments and I've seen pretty
- 1:05Speaker 1: good still shots that would, that would favor both opinions,
- 1:09Speaker 1: but thoughts on Miami and Florida state boys.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Something about Mike Norvell, he plays down to lesser competition.
- 1:20Speaker 4: He plays up to greater competition. It's a very strange
- 1:23Speaker 4: cycle you guys are dealing with in Tallahassee.
- 1:25Speaker 5: And I feel for you. I really do.
- 1:27Speaker 4: For this to go to overtime, first of all, Miami
- 1:30Speaker 4: should be looking at this tape, tearing it apart this
- 1:32Speaker 4: upcoming week because this was just not the type of
- 1:35Speaker 4: football that they're capable of playing. We knew going into
- 1:38Speaker 4: this season that Miami's defense was going to be less
- 1:41Speaker 4: than what we saw last year. The number of pieces
- 1:44Speaker 4: that went off to the national football league was.
- 1:45Speaker 5: Very, very clear.
- 1:46Speaker 4: So I think they're realizing like, Hey, we have to
- 1:50Speaker 4: probably outscore people in order for us to walk away
- 1:53Speaker 4: with wins defensively. They, they haven't really been tested so
- 1:56Speaker 4: far this year and shockingly Florida state gave them a test.
- 2:00Speaker 4: It's really surprising to see Ashton Daniels with four passing
- 2:04Speaker 4: touchdowns blows my freaking mind. The loss of chroma is
- 2:08Speaker 4: heartbreaking because that was the engine of that made this
- 2:12Speaker 4: Florida State offense move at all.
- 2:16Speaker 5: And now with his absence, I.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Still have some faith in Florida State to be able
- 2:21Speaker 4: to run the football, but Croma offered you this hard-hitting,
- 2:25Speaker 4: never-go-down type of approach that just kept things alive. You
- 2:30Speaker 4: could always rely on him. So now the rest of
- 2:33Speaker 4: the way for Florida State, I don't know where there's
- 2:37Speaker 4: a ton of positivity in that you're fortunate You've got
- 2:42Speaker 4: at Boston College, at Pitt, NC State on your schedule
- 2:45Speaker 4: for the rest of the way, but you will play
- 2:47Speaker 4: at home against Clemson on Halloween, and you will play
- 2:51Speaker 4: the Florida Gators at home to end the season. A
- 2:54Speaker 4: rivalry game, I understand crazy things can happen in that situation,
- 2:58Speaker 4: but without Croma the rest of the way... Clemson, the
- 3:01Speaker 4: Florida game especially, I don't think I'd give Florida State
- 3:05Speaker 4: the edge to win that game, but they could play
- 3:08Speaker 4: up for sure. It's kind of up is down, down
- 3:10Speaker 4: is up when it comes to the Seminoles. And then
- 3:12Speaker 4: Boston College, Pitt, without really much of a quarterback, and
- 3:15Speaker 4: NC State is just, you know, blah.
- 3:17Speaker 3: It's NC State.
- 3:18Speaker 5: It's NC State, yeah.
- 3:19Speaker 4: So you have three more chances, in my opinion, to
- 3:23Speaker 4: grab wins, and then it's coming back to the dreaded
- 3:27Speaker 4: situation for Florida State fans entering the season is, Well,
- 3:30Speaker 4: what if we finish 6-6? And that doesn't create any
- 3:34Speaker 4: sort of movement for Mike Norvell. I want to credit
- 3:37Speaker 4: Bud Elliott because he said it on a Cover 3 saying,
- 3:40Speaker 4: you don't see this program building in the right direction.
- 3:44Speaker 5: I think that's the right verb to talk about.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Every time I see Florida State out there, it's not like, hmm,
- 3:49Speaker 4: this is something that they can build on their sustainability
- 3:51Speaker 4: here to move forward.
- 3:53Speaker 5: They don't have it.
- 3:55Speaker 4: Right now, the fact that they're competitive in games– it's
- 3:58Speaker 4: a head scratcher like for them to play up to Alabama,
- 4:01Speaker 4: up to Miami.
- 4:02Speaker 5: It's, it's bizarre in my mind.
- 4:05Speaker 4: And then you go out and other games this year,
- 4:06Speaker 4: we're like, yeah, they'd be like dead even, or maybe
- 4:09Speaker 4: a little bit favored and they can't seem to get
- 4:11Speaker 4: out of their own way.
- 4:12Speaker 5: It's a six and six football team.
- 4:14Speaker 3: TJ, what would you grade at the performance of Florida state.
- 4:18Speaker 5: In this matchup?
- 4:18Speaker 3: Cause you and I both talked about when we did
- 4:20Speaker 3: the preview, even if you played an a plus version
- 4:23Speaker 3: of football, you would need to have some breaks, go
- 4:25Speaker 3: your way in favor of my, in Miami shooting itself.
- 4:27Speaker 5: In the foot.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I'd probably give them, I mean, offense, defense,
- 4:34Speaker 1: two different worlds. So offense, certainly an A. Defense, defense,
- 4:39Speaker 1: probably a B-ish. I mean, that's the number one offense
- 4:43Speaker 1: in the country. And you held them to 28 in regulation, right?
- 4:47Speaker 1: I'm not going to give them too much crap for
- 4:49Speaker 1: the 15 points in overtime, right? Compressed field game goes
- 4:54Speaker 1: later than you expect. ultimately you held him to 28 points.
- 4:57Speaker 1: You had a turnover in the red zone. You picked
- 4:59Speaker 1: off Mensah. I would say that was a B level performance,
- 5:02Speaker 1: maybe even maybe a minus, but probably not good enough
- 5:05Speaker 1: for a minus. I mean, you still give up 43
- 5:07Speaker 1: points even with compressed field. So overall I'd say, I mean,
- 5:11Speaker 1: if you told me before the game that Florida state
- 5:13Speaker 1: was going to take this double overtime, I would have
- 5:14Speaker 1: probably said that's got to take an a level performance.
- 5:16Speaker 2: So something like an a or B for sure.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I'll get right back to this clip of the power
- 5:21Speaker 1: to here on the college football addiction network. But first
- 5:24Speaker 1: I want to tell you about our friends over at

- 5:39Speaker 1: on Jordan love. We took the more on Dak Prescott's
- 5:42Speaker 1: passing yards, expect a lot of points in that Dallas
- 5:45Speaker 1: versus green Bay game. you can get on the Price

- 6:09Speaker 1: the NBA starting back up. NHL's going. MLB postseason.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Shout out my Rays.
- 6:13Speaker 1: And then, of course, college football, the most important thing
- 6:16Speaker 1: that happens in this country.
- 6:18Speaker 2: We appreciate PrizePix for their support. Now back to the clip.
- 6:22Speaker 3: I go A-, and they played a C- game, and
- 6:25Speaker 3: you still lost.
- 6:26Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:26Speaker 3: I think of that, and I'm pretty sure that Bud
- 6:29Speaker 3: Elliott was the one to say it. But just to
- 6:31Speaker 3: be clarified. When you play A-level football or you're A
- 6:35Speaker 3: and they're C and you still find a way to lose,
- 6:38Speaker 3: that's the ultimate sign that you got to go ahead
- 6:40Speaker 3: and pull the clipboard at some point. This is over.
- 6:42Speaker 5: This is done.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Now, I want to give credit to Miami because of
- 6:47Speaker 3: as much as I can sit here and say, yeah,
- 6:50Speaker 3: it was sloppy. It was downright disgusting. On a weekend
- 6:54Speaker 3: where everybody found a way to mess it on.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Up and lose, you didn't.
- 6:58Speaker 3: You still were able to survive. And credit where credit's
- 7:02Speaker 3: due to a lot of guys not named Malachi Tony
- 7:05Speaker 3: being X factors in this game. How about Mallory getting
- 7:08Speaker 3: over 100 rushing yards in this performance?
- 7:10Speaker 2: He was the difference.
- 7:11Speaker 5: Yeah, on the ground.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Phenomenal today. Daylon Upshaw stepping on up on the outside.
- 7:15Speaker 3: They've been waiting for that other guy to really be
- 7:18Speaker 3: an enforcer. And Cooper Barkey has had some flashy moments,
- 7:21Speaker 3: but he certainly feels like now a wide receiver. Upshaw
- 7:24Speaker 3: having four big catches in this game. Tony's still doing
- 7:27Speaker 3: Tony stuff. Fletcher's still being involved. Mets is still throwing
- 7:30Speaker 3: three touchdowns. I mean, they still were able to respond.
- 7:34Speaker 3: And what was it? 500 total yards of offense still.
- 7:38Speaker 3: And you didn't, almost 600 yards of offense.
- 7:40Speaker 5: And you didn't lose.
- 7:41Speaker 3: And even if you want to say on the last play,
- 7:44Speaker 3: which again, the last play is certainly a factor. And
- 7:48Speaker 3: it's one to where I think that unlike in the
- 7:50Speaker 3: Notre Dame game, you can truly say that last play
- 7:53Speaker 3: did have an impact on how this game ended up.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Bottom line, it's the way it is. But to me,
- 7:59Speaker 3: the fact that you were able to still get 26
- 8:01Speaker 3: first downs, throw for over 300 yards, rush for nearly
- 8:05Speaker 3: another 300 yards, it's enough to say that you did
- 8:09Speaker 3: your part to still remain a team that you do
- 8:13Speaker 3: not want to mess with when they're able to play
- 8:16Speaker 3: C- football. When they play A-level football, they're almost unbeatable.
- 8:21Speaker 3: But when they play C- football, it still is almost
- 8:24Speaker 3: impossible to get them to fall apart entirely. Because for
- 8:28Speaker 3: a majority of this game, they left so much out
- 8:32Speaker 3: there on the table. And yet still found a way
- 8:34Speaker 3: to respond. You don't apologize for winning in college football.
- 8:37Speaker 3: And you don't apologize for winning in conference games. And
- 8:39Speaker 3: you don't apologize for winning ugly. And you don't apologize
- 8:41Speaker 3: for winning in rivalries. It was not your best performance.
- 8:46Speaker 3: But you're sitting here undefeated still. And your pathway to
- 8:49Speaker 3: the college football playoff is still very much in your hands.
- 8:51Speaker 3: And your pathway to winning the ACC is still very
- 8:54Speaker 3: much in your hands. And while a bunch of other
- 8:55Speaker 3: teams are unraveling this morning, you get to sit here
- 8:58Speaker 3: and say somehow we didn't shoot ourselves in the foot
- 9:00Speaker 3: enough to where we're sitting with the loss next to
- 9:02Speaker 3: our name. So credit to that. For Florida State again,
- 9:06Speaker 3: you gave a beautiful performance at times and it still
- 9:10Speaker 3: wasn't enough. It's a sign of where you are underneath
- 9:14Speaker 3: Mike Norvell. And if there was any bit of where,
- 9:16Speaker 3: I mean, to me, yeah, you're going to keep him
- 9:19Speaker 3: around for another week. But that doesn't change the fact
- 9:22Speaker 3: that at this point, guys, if you want to be
- 9:24Speaker 3: taken seriously as a football program, you delivered an A-level
- 9:29Speaker 3: outing and still lost in double overtime. Fair or unfair
- 9:32Speaker 3: by officiating, this is who you are as a program.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that you needed.
- 9:37Speaker 1: If you're a Florida State, and I'll talk about Miami
- 9:40Speaker 1: in just a second, then we'll wrap up and get
- 9:42Speaker 1: thoughts from Tom or wrap up and go on to
- 9:44Speaker 1: our next one. But if you were a Florida State,
- 9:47Speaker 1: you played mostly well enough.
- 9:50Speaker 2: And maybe at times to win this game.
- 9:52Speaker 1: You had an opportunity up seven with the ball in
- 9:55Speaker 1: Miami territory and fumbled it away. You had two opportunities
- 9:58Speaker 1: to go get three points and you went for it
- 10:00Speaker 1: on fourth down again, just like that Louisville game. And
- 10:04Speaker 1: you squandered opportunities there. I will say not that I
- 10:08Speaker 1: think it makes the decision.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Okay.
- 10:10Speaker 1: But the second one did, they, they did force, you know,
- 10:13Speaker 1: they did force a Miami punt three and out, get
- 10:16Speaker 1: the ball back.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Thanks to penalties, they scored a touchdown. So the second
- 10:19Speaker 2: one did kind of get undone.
- 10:20Speaker 1: I don't think you could, I don't think it would
- 10:21Speaker 1: be fair to say you should have six more points,
- 10:23Speaker 1: but had you get to field goal on the first
- 10:24Speaker 1: one or, oh my gosh, God forbid, go convert a
- 10:27Speaker 1: fourth down for once.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Um, you know, you, you don't go to overtime, right?
- 10:31Speaker 1: You win the game in regulation and you have the
- 10:33Speaker 1: greatest upset to ever happen in this rivalry's history. You
- 10:36Speaker 1: also knock Miami off and you take them off out
- 10:40Speaker 1: of number one, out of everybody's poll and you put
- 10:41Speaker 1: BYU up there. So, um, you know, I, I think that, uh,
- 10:46Speaker 1: on Miami side.
- 10:47Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Like I want to be critical and there are certainly
- 10:49Speaker 1: things they have to clean up in this secondary on
- 10:51Speaker 1: this offensive line, but man, I'd rather have things to
- 10:55Speaker 1: clean up with a win than have things to clean
- 10:57Speaker 1: up and be Alabama or Georgia or, you know.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Notre Dame or Indiana or these other teams too.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Like you found a way to survive Indiana's loss a
- 11:05Speaker 1: little more acceptable just being against Ohio state, but he
- 11:09Speaker 1: found a way, you know, and, and pay said this
- 11:12Speaker 1: about Indiana after the Nebraska game, he said they were
- 11:14Speaker 1: hard to kill. That's a good way to describe Miami
- 11:16Speaker 1: because they really should have lost at times in this game,
- 11:20Speaker 1: but they made the plays. They got the strip. It
- 11:22Speaker 1: wasn't just like a fluky fumble. They got the strip
- 11:25Speaker 1: on that. They stopped Florida state multiple times on fourth down.
- 11:28Speaker 1: They somehow survived those long Hail Marys, both at one,
- 11:33Speaker 1: you know, they're not super long, but those 30, 40
- 11:35Speaker 1: yard Hail Marys.
- 11:36Speaker 2: That you need to be better there.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Like you don't need it coming down to the ACC.
- 11:39Speaker 1: It was shades of Virginia tech a couple of years
- 11:41Speaker 1: ago in 2024. But, um, you still won, right? And
- 11:47Speaker 1: that's all you can ask for. If you do that
- 11:49Speaker 1: six more times, you're golden, right? If you do it
- 11:53Speaker 1: three more times after that, then you'll probably be a
- 11:54Speaker 1: national champ. Well, I guess four with the ACC championship.
- 11:57Speaker 1: But Tom, final thoughts or you want to move on here?
- 12:00Speaker 4: I just would, to wrap up Miami's schedule the rest
- 12:02Speaker 4: of the way, like home against Pitt next week, favorable
- 12:05Speaker 4: at North Carolina. North Carolina is looking far more competent
- 12:09Speaker 4: than they looked last season, but I still like Miami
- 12:11Speaker 4: in that game.
- 12:11Speaker 5: You shut your mouth. We hate Bill Belichick here. We
- 12:14Speaker 5: hate Bill.
- 12:16Speaker 4: They're definitely a more competent football team at Chapel Hill.
- 12:18Speaker 4: And then at Notre Dame, kind of the points we
- 12:20Speaker 4: were making about the Notre Dame-BYU game, I believe in
- 12:23Speaker 4: Miami's ability to score. So if they can jump out
- 12:26Speaker 4: early on Notre Dame and they can kind of force
- 12:28Speaker 4: the same type of offensive production that CJ Carr and
- 12:32Speaker 4: company had to put up against BYU and kind of
- 12:34Speaker 4: make them play from behind, that's a good situation for
- 12:37Speaker 4: Miami in that game. But still, that's a tough one,
- 12:39Speaker 4: nearly a coin flip. against Duke at home, against Virginia Tech,
- 12:43Speaker 4: which is feisty, and you finish the year against Boston College.
- 12:46Speaker 4: You have three straight home games to end the season.
- 12:48Speaker 4: So it's a favorable run. It's not the gauntlet stretches
- 12:52Speaker 4: that you see for some teams in the Big Ten
- 12:54Speaker 4: and the SEC, certainly, but there's going to be some
- 12:57Speaker 4: competition for them to deal with the rest of the way.
- 12:59Speaker 4: You're allowed a, I wouldn't call this a mulligan, but
- 13:03Speaker 4: you're allowed not your best game against a rival. I'm
- 13:07Speaker 4: very okay with that. I think there's a chance Miami
- 13:09Speaker 4: finishes undefeated. It's a very strong chance.
- 13:13Speaker 1: That Miami Notre Dame game is going to be phenomenal
- 13:16Speaker 1: coming up in a few weeks.
- 13:17Speaker 2: I believe that's the same day as the Holy War.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Are those both on the 7th of November?
- 13:21Speaker 3: I believe, and then LSU and Alabama.
- 13:24Speaker 2: LSU, Alabama as well.
- 13:25Speaker 3: What another great weekend.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Feels like a playoff eliminator there.
