- 0:37Speaker 7: Go to sleep.
- 0:39Speaker 6: Everything is all right.
- 0:44Speaker 7: I close my eyes.

- 1:17Speaker 7: It's time for Sofa Theater. Detective Williams?
- 1:24Speaker 10: Yes?
- 1:25Speaker 7: My name is Jeffrey Beaumont.
- 1:27Speaker 8: I live near you.
- 1:28Speaker 7: I believe you know my father, Tom Beaumont, Beaumont's hardware store?
- 1:31Speaker 4: Sure, I do.
- 1:32Speaker 7: I understand he's in the hospital.
- 1:33Speaker 9: How's he doing?
- 1:35Speaker 7: He's okay, I guess.
- 1:36Speaker 6: I hope.
- 1:38Speaker 1: They're doing tests.
- 1:38Speaker 7: That's why I'm home from school.
- 1:40Speaker 11: Anyway, I was at the hospital this morning and coming
- 1:42Speaker 11: home through the field behind our neighborhood, there.
- 1:44Speaker 8: Behind Vista, I found an ear.
- 1:49Speaker 4: You did?
- 1:50Speaker 12: A human ear?
- 1:52Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:53Speaker 7: I thought I should bring it to you. Yep, that's right.
- 1:56Speaker 14: Let's take a look at it. Yes, that's a human ear,
- 2:04Speaker 14: all right. Let's take it down to the coroner's office
- 2:07Speaker 14: and see what they make of it. Then I want
- 2:09Speaker 14: you to show me exactly where you found it.
- 2:12Speaker 3: All right.
- 2:14Speaker 7: She wore blue.
- 2:17Speaker 12: Velvet Bluer than velvet was the night Softer than satin
- 2:37Speaker 12: was the light From the stars.
- 2:44Speaker 8: Welcome to Movie Meltdown Sofa Theater. Once again, I am Brian.
- 2:47Speaker 1: I am still Misty.
- 2:48Speaker 7: I'm still Jay.
- 2:50Speaker 15: I'm still Marlena.
- 2:52Speaker 8: All right. This week's Silver Theater feature is Blue Velvet. 1986,
- 2:58Speaker 8: director David Lynch. The plot's, again, not too terribly bad
- 3:02Speaker 8: this time from IMDb. After finding a severed human ear
- 3:06Speaker 8: in a field, a young man soon discovers a sinister
- 3:08Speaker 8: underworld lying just beneath his idyllic suburban hometown. So, with that,
- 3:14Speaker 8: spoiler alert, because, once again, hopefully you've seen this because
- 3:18Speaker 8: it's pretty damned impressive, but if not, You may not
- 3:22Speaker 8: want to hear us go on and on about it,
- 3:23Speaker 8: because I'm sure we'll ruin everything. So, go watch it first.
- 3:27Speaker 8: With that having been said, where should we begin?
- 3:31Speaker 7: I forgot the whole beginning of this movie even existed.
- 3:34Speaker 11: I saw this movie a long time ago, and apparently
- 3:38Speaker 11: the first quarter of it and the last quarter of it,
- 3:42Speaker 11: I'd completely forgotten and only remembered the middle part.
- 3:46Speaker 7: And mostly it was all the Dennis Hopper stuff.
- 3:49Speaker 10: And if any listeners out there can tell us what
- 3:51Speaker 10: exactly happened to Kyle McLaughlin's dad.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Did he get stung by a bee?
- 3:54Speaker 10: Did he have a mysterious neck pain that caused him
- 3:57Speaker 10: to go to the hospital?
- 3:58Speaker 1: What exactly happened? Did the water spigot shoot off and
- 4:02Speaker 1: hit him? What happened?
- 4:03Speaker 15: I have no idea.
- 4:04Speaker 7: I don't really elaborate on that.
- 4:07Speaker 8: I don't think it mattered for you.
- 4:09Speaker 1: To me, it mattered.
- 4:10Speaker 8: Well, because you get obsessed with weird little things. But
- 4:12Speaker 8: I think it was one of those, even, you know,
- 4:14Speaker 8: especially David Lynch, he's like, there's a medical issue. It
- 4:17Speaker 8: brings him home. That's really all they needed.
- 4:19Speaker 1: But couldn't they have made it a little bit more explained?
- 4:22Speaker 4: No, no.
- 4:22Speaker 10: It would have been more of a heart attack, at least.
- 4:25Speaker 10: We can understand that.
- 4:26Speaker 8: See, originally, yeah, I was thinking back, thinking maybe it
- 4:28Speaker 8: was a heart attack. But, yeah, watching it this time,
- 4:30Speaker 8: I was like... And then he had the huge, like,
- 4:31Speaker 8: thing on his head, like that whole metal piece on there. So, yeah,
- 4:35Speaker 8: it doesn't really.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Would you have that if he got stung by a bee?
- 4:38Speaker 7: I don't know. I thought he had a.
- 4:39Speaker 10: Did he get hit by an invisible car?
- 4:41Speaker 7: No, I thought he had a... What is that called?
- 4:43Speaker 4: Tracheotomy.
- 4:44Speaker 15: Tracheotomy.
- 4:44Speaker 7: It kind of looked like a tracheotomy, but I.
- 4:46Speaker 15: Couldn't... Yeah, I think so.
- 4:47Speaker 7: I couldn't tell.
- 4:48Speaker 8: Because he couldn't talk either the entire time. But then
- 4:50Speaker 8: later he could, so.
- 4:52Speaker 7: I'm so confused.
- 4:54Speaker 15: Welcome to the world of David Lynch.
- 4:56Speaker 8: Yes, if that's what you're confused about in David Lynch's world,
- 4:59Speaker 8: that's the least of your problem.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Everything else made sense.
- 5:01Speaker 10: That's just confusing.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Me.
- 5:05Speaker 15: It's weird that everything kind of made sense.
- 5:08Speaker 8: Yeah, that's what I noticed going back and re-watching this.
- 5:11Speaker 8: I'm so used to everything Lynch touches just being a mess.
- 5:16Speaker 8: Like genius, but at the same time, so confusing and so, like,
- 5:21Speaker 8: just overlaid with all these weird symbols and images and,
- 5:25Speaker 8: you know, stuff that means something to him but doesn't necessarily,
- 5:28Speaker 8: you know, it's really hard to piece through what he's
- 5:31Speaker 8: going through. This is about the most straightforward Lynch is
- 5:35Speaker 8: possibly ever. I mean, maybe Elephant Man. It's been a
- 5:37Speaker 8: long time since I've seen Elephant Man. It was sort
- 5:40Speaker 8: of normal for a movie about something as weird as
- 5:43Speaker 8: that was, but... stylistically and a lot of his other stuff,
- 5:47Speaker 8: it wasn't near as convoluted as some of his other
- 5:49Speaker 8: projects get. So, yeah, I was amazed at just how
- 5:54Speaker 8: almost normal, yeah, it's almost a normal plot line and
- 5:59Speaker 8: a lot of the other stuff, you know, it's still
- 6:01Speaker 8: relatively normal for David Lynch, again, to put it in perspective.
- 6:06Speaker 8: There's not weird Lynchian things all over this movie.
- 6:08Speaker 15: Other than him giving the weather report.
- 6:11Speaker 4: What?
- 6:12Speaker 10: Oh, the weather report, the David Lynch weather report.
- 6:14Speaker 9: Yeah, I remember that.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I do, man.
- 6:17Speaker 8: I missed that, actually.
- 6:18Speaker 7: You know, I think I must have become more warped.
- 6:21Speaker 11: Actually, I know I've become more warped as time has
- 6:23Speaker 11: gone by, because I remember when I first saw this movie,
- 6:25Speaker 11: I thought this was just the weirdest fucking thing I've
- 6:28Speaker 11: ever seen.
- 6:28Speaker 7: It blew my mind. I completely didn't know what to
- 6:32Speaker 7: think of it. Weirdest thing I'd ever seen. Creeped me out.
- 6:37Speaker 7: and going back and watching it is like, man, yeah,
- 6:39Speaker 7: I enjoyed it.
- 6:41Speaker 8: And I think everybody had that reaction. Like going back,
- 6:43Speaker 8: looking at people's response to it in 86 was just like,
- 6:47Speaker 8: they were appalled by what was going on and just the,
- 6:50Speaker 8: the weird style and all the weird things that touches on.
- 6:54Speaker 8: It's like, people weren't really ready for that.
- 6:56Speaker 11: And, and how whacked out Dennis Hopper was mommy, mommy,
- 7:00Speaker 11: don't look at me type thing.
- 7:04Speaker 7: Crazy.
- 7:05Speaker 8: Yeah, pretty much.
- 7:07Speaker 1: To me, he made the movie.
- 7:08Speaker 10: Everything else would have failed if it hadn't been for
- 7:11Speaker 10: the amount of bucket loads of crazy that Dennis Hopper
- 7:13Speaker 10: was able to portray in this movie.
- 7:14Speaker 7: Good God, he was fucking nuts.
- 7:16Speaker 8: I like the rest of it. I like what else
- 7:19Speaker 8: is going on there. It would be captivating without that.
- 7:23Speaker 1: If it was anybody else, I don't think it would
- 7:26Speaker 1: have had the amount of pull that it did.
- 7:28Speaker 11: Dennis Hopper has that ability to seem like he's that
- 7:31Speaker 11: fucking nuts, that he was that fucking nuts in real life.
- 7:35Speaker 10: When I read, wasn't he actually inhaling whatever that was
- 7:38Speaker 10: in there? Just more of a realistic feel?
- 7:40Speaker 1: Because it was supposed to be.
- 7:41Speaker 7: Nitrous oxide or what?
- 7:43Speaker 15: I checked.
- 7:43Speaker 8: I'm trying to think. Because he actually says... Because it
- 7:46Speaker 8: was his idea to make it this... Because he knew
- 7:49Speaker 8: so much about the drugs. He was like, no, it
- 7:51Speaker 8: shouldn't be that. It should be this.
- 7:52Speaker 1: And when I read, he actually was inhaling it during
- 7:55Speaker 1: the movie.
- 7:55Speaker 8: Wouldn't surprise me. Except he had just gotten out of
- 7:58Speaker 8: rehab at this point. So it wouldn't be good for him.
- 8:00Speaker 8: But yeah, it is nitrous oxide is what it's supposed
- 8:02Speaker 8: to be. to be in the storyline i don't know
- 8:04Speaker 8: what it really was probably was probably was nitrous but
- 8:07Speaker 8: even weirder is lynch wanted it to be helium which
- 8:10Speaker 8: helium does nothing to you other than affect your voice
- 8:14Speaker 8: and so we should shrink your lungs in the original
- 8:17Speaker 8: screenplay like that's what it was he was supposed to
- 8:20Speaker 8: just his voice was supposed to get weird and that
- 8:22Speaker 8: was again part of just his craziness and yeah they
- 8:24Speaker 8: were they showed that clip of dennis hopper talking about
- 8:27Speaker 8: it and he's like He told him he thought he
- 8:29Speaker 8: was wrong. He thought he needed to have nitrous oxide
- 8:31Speaker 8: so he would be getting sort of this little euphoria
- 8:33Speaker 8: off of it. And he said it was like 20
- 8:35Speaker 8: years later he stopped and thought about it and went,
- 8:38Speaker 8: how weird is David Lynch that all he wanted it
- 8:41Speaker 8: to do was just make his voice higher?
- 8:44Speaker 7: Well, he was doing the mommy-mommy thing. It was like
- 8:47Speaker 7: a child to have a child's voice. It's so weird.
- 8:51Speaker 15: I think that would have made equally as much sense
- 8:54Speaker 15: as the nitrous oxide, personally.
- 8:56Speaker 7: It would have made it even creepier.
- 8:57Speaker 8: It would have made it creepier.
- 8:59Speaker 7: Mommy, mommy!
- 9:01Speaker 8: Because it wouldn't even make sense in a normal... At
- 9:03Speaker 8: least the drug aspect of it makes sense to someone
- 9:07Speaker 8: who's that much of an addict. He's constantly getting his fix,
- 9:12Speaker 8: and he also equates... Everything he does, once he gets
- 9:16Speaker 8: into these sexual situations, it comes out. Once he gets
- 9:19Speaker 8: into the violence situations, it comes out. So his two
- 9:22Speaker 8: main things, they're both equated with this euphoria that he
- 9:26Speaker 8: kind of inhales. Another nut job is Dean Stockwell. God,
- 9:31Speaker 8: I love Dean Stockwell. He can play the creepiest, wackiest.
- 9:35Speaker 11: He's just fucking nuts.
- 9:37Speaker 8: He's so awesome in this movie. He's very creepy. So awesome.
- 9:41Speaker 7: And I think I know a guy like this.
- 9:43Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 9:43Speaker 11: I can't remember what his name is. But, yeah, he's
- 9:46Speaker 11: just so, the whole singing into the drop light.
- 9:49Speaker 8: That's so, I mean, again, that makes that whole scene,
- 9:52Speaker 8: I mean, it's already an amazing scene to look at. But, yeah,
- 9:55Speaker 8: the song.
- 9:56Speaker 1: And to me it's watching Dennis Hopper's face while.
- 9:59Speaker 7: He's singing because he's kind of lip syncing at the.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Same time just the look of just like I can't
- 10:04Speaker 1: even describe.
- 10:04Speaker 8: What it's just pain it's heartbreaking just to watch his
- 10:09Speaker 8: face during that because it's like he's so messed up
- 10:12Speaker 8: and it's like I don't know.
- 10:13Speaker 11: Like maybe the song affects him on some kind of
- 10:17Speaker 11: Inner turmoil.
- 10:18Speaker 7: Yeah, I don't know. Who knows? Maybe he was hearing
- 10:23Speaker 7: that song when he was getting beaten as a child.
- 10:25Speaker 16: I don't know.
- 10:26Speaker 8: It definitely does. I mean, it's the only... few things
- 10:30Speaker 8: that ever sort of break with him it's like the
- 10:32Speaker 8: only things that that make him like human the only
- 10:35Speaker 8: time that it appeals to the side of him that's
- 10:37Speaker 8: not crazy and not violent is the the music and
- 10:41Speaker 8: in the the velvet the little scrap of velvet that
- 10:44Speaker 8: he that he carries around with him it's like those
- 10:46Speaker 8: those are like his his only ties to humanity really
- 10:48Speaker 8: other than that he's like an animal like he just
- 10:51Speaker 8: whatever he wants to do whatever like like just that
- 10:54Speaker 8: that in that same little scene there like That second
- 10:58Speaker 8: that he looks at Kyle MacLachlan and he doesn't do
- 11:00Speaker 8: what he wants him to, he punches him in the face,
- 11:02Speaker 8: like out of nowhere. That scene is so awesome. And
- 11:05Speaker 8: he's just like, and it is, it's like instinct. He
- 11:08Speaker 8: just like, he didn't do what I wanted and just cracked.
- 11:11Speaker 8: Just like, oh, that scene is so amazing. Just watching him.
- 11:15Speaker 8: And then the weird little power play that comes into it.
- 11:18Speaker 8: How much of this whole plot line is about power, really.
- 11:21Speaker 8: And as he says, he can get him to do
- 11:24Speaker 8: whatever he wants. And then the even creepier thing is
- 11:27Speaker 8: the look on Dean Stockwell's face, that he also sort
- 11:29Speaker 8: of gets off on knowing that they both have this
- 11:33Speaker 8: power over him. So it's kind of, ah, there's so
- 11:36Speaker 8: many levels twisted in this movie.
- 11:38Speaker 7: That doesn't scare me.
- 11:46Speaker 2: I'm Paul, what's your name?
- 11:50Speaker 15: Jeffrey.
- 12:03Speaker 12: Where's the glasses?
- 12:04Speaker 7: That beer's gonna get warm.
- 12:06Speaker 5: One thing I can't fucking stand is warm beer makes
- 12:09Speaker 5: me fucking puke.
- 12:10Speaker 7: All right, darling, where's the glasses?
- 12:12Speaker 3: Here, Frank, here come the glasses.
- 12:16Speaker 12: See, here are the glasses.
- 12:19Speaker 7: Raymond, where's the fucking.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Beer, man? It's right here, Frank.
- 12:23Speaker 1: You want me to pour it?
- 12:27Speaker 7: No, I want you to fuck it. Shit your ass,
- 12:30Speaker 7: pour the fucking beer. Thank you. Let's drink up. Here's
- 12:43Speaker 7: to your health. Let's drink to something else.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Let's drink to fucking.
- 12:52Speaker 7: Yeah, say, here's to your fuck, Frank.
- 12:55Speaker 4: If you like, Frank.
- 12:57Speaker 7: Here's to your fuck.
- 13:00Speaker 4: Cheers.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Cheers.
- 13:04Speaker 7: Wow, suave, man.
- 13:06Speaker 8: You are so fucking suave.
- 13:12Speaker 7: Hey, we love Ben.
- 13:13Speaker 12: We love Ben.
- 13:14Speaker 8: Here's to Ben.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Here's to Ben.
- 13:21Speaker 7: Here's to Ben.
- 13:23Speaker 8: Here's to Ben.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Be polite.
- 13:29Speaker 7: Here's to Ben.
- 13:31Speaker 10: I kept waiting for Paul to tell me there was
- 13:34Speaker 10: a fish in the percolator.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Isn't his name Paul in this one and Pete in
- 13:37Speaker 1: Twin Peaks? I kept waiting.
- 13:39Speaker 8: I think so.
- 13:39Speaker 1: There's a fish in the percolator.
- 13:42Speaker 8: You've got to love Jack Nance. That guy is so awesome.
- 13:44Speaker 1: He's so awesome.
- 13:47Speaker 10: It's just so different from his character in Twin Peaks
- 13:49Speaker 10: in this one. It just threw me off a little bit.
- 13:51Speaker 10: He's lovable in the first one. He's just kind of, hey, dude.
- 13:55Speaker 1: In this one, he's like, hey. In his face, yelling
- 13:57Speaker 1: at him.
- 13:58Speaker 11: Yeah, he had all of Dennis Hopper's little gang. None
- 14:02Speaker 11: of them really seemed very threatening. They all seemed like
- 14:05Speaker 11: a bunch of, I don't know, they seemed like a
- 14:07Speaker 11: bunch of my dad's friends.
- 14:09Speaker 8: Yeah, and they're weird that they're hanging out with him,
- 14:11Speaker 8: number one. But I guess really if you hang out
- 14:13Speaker 8: with Frank Booth, you don't have to be very threatening.
- 14:16Speaker 8: He's threatening for the whole state.
- 14:19Speaker 7: They're pretty much all in fear of him. Yeah.
- 14:22Speaker 8: But yet everybody gets along. He never really crosses the
- 14:25Speaker 8: line with any of them. He's just such... Aside from
- 14:28Speaker 8: yelling at the guy to pour the fucking beer. Well,
- 14:30Speaker 8: that's just because he likes to yell at everybody. But
- 14:33Speaker 8: it never becomes that power play with them, really. He
- 14:35Speaker 8: just yells about everything, basically. So it's weird how okay
- 14:41Speaker 8: he is with just his little group. Other than that,
- 14:43Speaker 8: he's just horrible to everybody else. Him and Ben, you know,
- 14:46Speaker 8: but they love some death.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Just don't say Heineken.
- 14:50Speaker 10: You're all set.
- 14:52Speaker 7: I'm with Hopper on that one. Fuck Heineken.
- 14:57Speaker 8: I just like all the women hanging out with Ben.
- 14:59Speaker 15: Oh, yeah.
- 15:00Speaker 1: They were a classy group.
- 15:01Speaker 8: I'm so not sure what's up with that whole bunch.
- 15:05Speaker 8: There's so many things going on there.
- 15:07Speaker 7: It's like a bunch of Seventh and Hill hookers is
- 15:08Speaker 7: what they look like.
- 15:09Speaker 8: Well, and just the older, like, hefty women. They were
- 15:13Speaker 8: just there.
- 15:13Speaker 7: Yeah, they looked like people's moms.
- 15:14Speaker 8: They did. And half of them sitting on the couch.
- 15:17Speaker 8: They all looked like they were, like, even older than
- 15:19Speaker 8: Dean Stockwell.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Like, everybody.
- 15:21Speaker 7: Yeah, like you got them out of a bingo.
- 15:22Speaker 15: I was going to say, like, a bingo party. Yeah.
- 15:25Speaker 15: I thought there was going to be bingo here.
- 15:27Speaker 8: So the fact that they're hanging out with, you know,
- 15:30Speaker 8: Frank Booth in general, and then, like, this guy who's
- 15:33Speaker 8: obviously working drugs, trafficking, or just selling, or what all
- 15:38Speaker 8: he's doing, we're not even 100% sure. But, yeah, they're definitely...
- 15:42Speaker 8: Probably more or less just selling.
- 15:44Speaker 7: Because he's got that whole party house going on.
- 15:46Speaker 8: Yeah, he's involved in kidnapping and drugs. So, yeah, it's
- 15:50Speaker 8: really weird these people are in the room with him.
- 15:54Speaker 8: Makes no sense to me. And yet that's kind of
- 15:56Speaker 8: why it's genius. Just that shot as he walks in
- 15:59Speaker 8: the door, I'm just like, what the hell is this place?
- 16:02Speaker 10: I think the more nightmare-inducing part of the movie was
- 16:05Speaker 10: the chick dancing on the car. Yeah.
- 16:08Speaker 1: That was just absolutely frightening. There was lace in places
- 16:10Speaker 1: I didn't need.
- 16:11Speaker 10: To see lace.
- 16:11Speaker 11: I think it was between that and the cop's daughter's
- 16:15Speaker 11: cry face.
- 16:16Speaker 10: Oh, yeah, the cry face was not good.
- 16:18Speaker 9: It is a frightening face.
- 16:19Speaker 10: I can't make that face.
- 16:21Speaker 15: I can make that face.
- 16:22Speaker 7: Nor should you.
- 16:23Speaker 3: No, ever.
- 16:23Speaker 10: I don't know as a baby if I could distort
- 16:27Speaker 10: my face in that fashion.
- 16:28Speaker 11: Oh, my God, I haven't seen a face like that in, jeez.
- 16:31Speaker 10: Her face in general was no good. Her nose was
- 16:34Speaker 10: far too large for her face.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Sorry, Lauren Dern.
- 16:37Speaker 8: No, I like Lauren Dern. She's actually a really good actress,
- 16:39Speaker 8: but it's funny, it's always sort of struck me as this,
- 16:42Speaker 8: and it's one of those weird things that if you
- 16:44Speaker 8: get this, I guess you'll get it. If not, I
- 16:46Speaker 8: just sound like I'm crazy, too. You know how when
- 16:48Speaker 8: somebody wears glasses, and you get used to seeing them
- 16:51Speaker 8: wear glasses, and then when they take them off, They
- 16:53Speaker 8: kind of look weird.
- 16:54Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 16:54Speaker 8: Laura Dern has always looked like that. I've never seen
- 16:57Speaker 8: her in glasses, I don't think, but she always looks
- 16:59Speaker 8: like she doesn't look right. Like, she just took her
- 17:01Speaker 8: glasses off and you're like, not even that so much,
- 17:04Speaker 8: just that look of like, something's not right.
- 17:06Speaker 15: You know?
- 17:06Speaker 8: Something's different with you.
- 17:07Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 17:07Speaker 7: You change your face.
- 17:09Speaker 10: Like, what's up with that?
- 17:10Speaker 8: I wish she would change her face.
- 17:11Speaker 1: She has to get a nose job.
- 17:14Speaker 8: That's uncalled for.
- 17:15Speaker 1: If you're listening, look into that shit.
- 17:17Speaker 8: They just do it wrong.
- 17:18Speaker 1: It couldn't make it any worse than it already is.
- 17:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:22Speaker 7: Joan Rivers.
- 17:23Speaker 8: Joan Collins.
- 17:24Speaker 9: That too, probably.
- 17:26Speaker 7: Rhinoplasty.
- 17:27Speaker 9: Jesus.
- 17:28Speaker 1: I'm full of Heidi Montag's whatever.
- 17:32Speaker 15: I think it's normally fine if you stop after one
- 17:35Speaker 15: nose job. That's when you have multiple nose jobs.
- 17:39Speaker 8: They're like potato chips. You can't have just one.
- 17:41Speaker 9: Look at Michael.
- 17:43Speaker 11: I think the level of stupidity on Kyle McLaughlin's character
- 17:46Speaker 11: is just mind-blowing. He gets involved in this shit, but
- 17:50Speaker 11: then he just keeps going back because he's so, I guess,
- 17:53Speaker 11: I don't know, maybe he's a glutton for punishment or
- 17:56Speaker 11: he's that damn curious about it, but I would never
- 17:58Speaker 11: have gotten myself in the situation he was in.
- 18:02Speaker 7: He's just like, I want more.
- 18:03Speaker 10: You're breaking into a chick's apartment and she tries to
- 18:05Speaker 10: give you a blowjob.
- 18:06Speaker 1: At night point, he's back.
- 18:09Speaker 4: I mean, yeah.
- 18:10Speaker 8: See you tomorrow night.
- 18:11Speaker 10: Exactly.
- 18:13Speaker 15: Sounds kind of dangerous, but also kind of sexy, so.
- 18:16Speaker 8: I think it's both. I think initially it's just that innocence. Like,
- 18:20Speaker 8: he really... doesn't seem to have a clue on so
- 18:23Speaker 8: many levels and i guess you know bring everyone up
- 18:26Speaker 8: in that little town because both of the kids there
- 18:29Speaker 8: seem pretty wide-eyed and don't really have any idea what's
- 18:32Speaker 8: going on and then as they get into it i
- 18:34Speaker 8: think he gets kind of seduced by it and he
- 18:36Speaker 8: does get into that.
- 18:36Speaker 11: Even gets the taste of part of what frank is
- 18:39Speaker 11: yeah where she's like hit me and he doesn't want to.
- 18:41Speaker 7: Hit her and then finally he just hauls off and slaps.
- 18:44Speaker 8: Her he does and it's it's one of those i
- 18:46Speaker 8: think it's it's sort of, that's, that's why by the
- 18:49Speaker 8: end of it, he's like falling apart because he sees
- 18:51Speaker 8: himself becoming that. He sees himself, you know, kind of
- 18:54Speaker 8: going down that path.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Doesn't even Frank, Frank even say that? He's like, you're
- 18:58Speaker 1: like me.
- 18:59Speaker 8: And he kind of is, but I think it's, it's
- 19:01Speaker 8: that weird relationship that they immediately have between, between Cal
- 19:05Speaker 8: McLaughlin's character. And then the Dorothy is that it's that
- 19:10Speaker 8: he immediately wants to like savor. He's got this, like,
- 19:14Speaker 8: I want to, you know, take care of you. And,
- 19:16Speaker 8: But at the same time, I think he, as they
- 19:18Speaker 8: get into that, within that next time that they're together,
- 19:21Speaker 8: he also sees that power of once he's taken care
- 19:24Speaker 8: of her, he can, he has control over her almost.
- 19:27Speaker 8: And especially because she's just like that. I mean, he's
- 19:31Speaker 8: probably never experienced anything like this. So, I mean, he,
- 19:34Speaker 8: it's probably the first time he's been thrown into something
- 19:36Speaker 8: like that, but she's so weird. And she's at this
- 19:42Speaker 8: point has been so abused through her whole life. We're
- 19:45Speaker 8: assuming that like, she doesn't know how to have any
- 19:47Speaker 8: relationship that isn't like, there is no, pleasure without pain
- 19:51Speaker 8: everything is tied to pain at that point and just
- 19:55Speaker 8: being abused so it's kind of weird that yeah then
- 19:58Speaker 8: he gets sucked into that and and sort of seduced
- 20:01Speaker 8: by that same thing and i think if i.
- 20:03Speaker 11: Was a colin mclaughlin's character too i'd be a little
- 20:06Speaker 11: leery of uh Of Dennis Hopper putting on lipstick and
- 20:10Speaker 11: then Frenching him and then punching him until he passes out.
- 20:12Speaker 7: Because you know what? Once you pass out, you don't
- 20:15Speaker 7: know what's happening to you. Especially with a guy wearing lipstick.
- 20:18Speaker 8: Especially with Frank. Frank? I don't know what was going
- 20:21Speaker 8: on with Frank. Well, I've heard many theories, actually. But Frank?
- 20:26Speaker 4: Frank?
- 20:27Speaker 15: I'm going to argue that Kyle Glockland's character could not
- 20:30Speaker 15: have possibly turned into Frank. Or Dennis Hopper's character. Because...
- 20:35Speaker 15: You don't get to be that way unless something happened
- 20:39Speaker 15: horribly wrong in your childhood or something horribly wrong happened
- 20:43Speaker 15: to you. You don't just, like, wake up and decide
- 20:46Speaker 15: to be that crazy.
- 20:47Speaker 10: But yet he still didn't seem to mind hitting her
- 20:49Speaker 10: all of a sudden.
- 20:50Speaker 8: Yeah, he still had it inside of him. And I
- 20:53Speaker 8: think that's why he is, like, falling apart and crying
- 20:55Speaker 8: at the end is that he realizes he does have
- 20:58Speaker 8: part of that in him. He'll never be as crazy
- 21:00Speaker 8: as that. Yeah, never that crazy, but there's still just
- 21:03Speaker 8: that little part. You know, there's that evil that's kind
- 21:07Speaker 8: of inside of him.
- 21:09Speaker 14: I think Frank cut the ear I found off her
- 21:12Speaker 14: husband as a warning for her.
- 21:13Speaker 9: To stay alive.
- 21:17Speaker 7: Frank is a.
- 21:21Speaker 9: Very dangerous man.
- 21:25Speaker 7: My God.
- 21:28Speaker 15: Should you tell my father?
- 21:30Speaker 9: No, I can't do that.
- 21:33Speaker 8: I can't prove any of this.
- 21:34Speaker 7: I found out my information illegally. You could get into
- 21:38Speaker 7: a lot of trouble.
- 21:42Speaker 1: It's all on one night.
- 21:43Speaker 3: It is a strange.
- 21:50Speaker 18: World.
- 21:57Speaker 9: Why are there people like Frank? Why is there so
- 22:00Speaker 9: much trouble in this world?
- 22:04Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 22:04Speaker 10: So what does that mean for Laura Dern's character? Is
- 22:09Speaker 10: she going to be getting her ass kicked around a lot?
- 22:11Speaker 8: Probably.
- 22:11Speaker 10: Or has he managed to, by not getting rid of,
- 22:16Speaker 10: by not going that way, can he go the normal way?
- 22:20Speaker 7: Probably.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Will he always have that dark side?
- 22:22Speaker 7: He'll just find hookers to take it out on.
- 22:24Speaker 8: That's many people. As the story plays out, I think
- 22:28Speaker 8: we should assume that she's okay, and he's okay by
- 22:32Speaker 8: the end of it, because, I mean, they work in,
- 22:35Speaker 8: and again, this is where the symbolism comes in, and
- 22:37Speaker 8: to me, it's not really veiled at all. I mean,
- 22:41Speaker 8: everything within it is pretty straightforward, almost. It's like, the
- 22:45Speaker 8: whole question, I mean, they just blatantly ask, why is
- 22:49Speaker 8: there evil in the world? Why are there people like Frank,
- 22:52Speaker 8: you know? Because of the robot robins.
- 22:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:56Speaker 8: Terminator Robins.
- 22:58Speaker 7: They're Terminators. They're Robins from the future. They're robotic.
- 23:02Speaker 8: They're liquid metal.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Oh, Lord.
- 23:05Speaker 8: But that's what it is. It becomes that whole, you know,
- 23:07Speaker 8: good versus evil thing. And so in the end, as we,
- 23:11Speaker 8: you know, get further into it, we do see the,
- 23:13Speaker 8: you know... the whole white light comes out and you know,
- 23:16Speaker 8: that's sort of the, everything's all happy goodness in the world.
- 23:20Speaker 8: And then, you know, the, the Robin wins over the bug.
- 23:23Speaker 8: I think that's, that's kind of cool. Cause he uses,
- 23:25Speaker 8: he uses bugs like almost right off the bat in
- 23:28Speaker 8: the beginning. You get that little thing and it dives
- 23:30Speaker 8: down into the grass and it's kind of cool because it's,
- 23:34Speaker 8: It sets it up with the very thing that the
- 23:35Speaker 8: whole story is built on, is we have this nice,
- 23:37Speaker 8: you know, perfect little lawn, and then you dive down
- 23:40Speaker 8: below it, and there's just these bugs, and it's dark
- 23:43Speaker 8: and dirty and violent just below the surface of what's
- 23:47Speaker 8: seemingly perfect.
- 23:48Speaker 7: Yeah, this seemingly nice little town.
- 23:50Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 23:51Speaker 8: Is just, you know, there's corruption and violence and evil
- 23:54Speaker 8: just lurking like everywhere else in the world. It's something
- 23:57Speaker 8: that Lynch is obsessed with anyway and has continually, you know,
- 24:01Speaker 8: worked into all of his stories almost.
- 24:03Speaker 7: Yeah, watch Twin Peaks.
- 24:04Speaker 4: Jeez.
- 24:05Speaker 8: It is funny.
- 24:06Speaker 1: At least the first season.
- 24:07Speaker 8: And a half. Yeah, well, it's not all there was.
- 24:09Speaker 8: The first season, just until they find the killer, really, but... But, yeah,
- 24:13Speaker 8: it's funny how close to Twin Peaks this seems, really.
- 24:16Speaker 8: Because in other directions, he gets further away. Like, his
- 24:20Speaker 8: earlier stuff is just way crazy and weird. And then
- 24:23Speaker 8: further on, he gets into different areas that he wants
- 24:25Speaker 8: to tackle. But yeah, this came right, you know, one
- 24:29Speaker 8: right after the other. So there's a lot of similarities
- 24:31Speaker 8: and a lot of familiar stuff.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Well, there was one shot.
- 24:34Speaker 10: I'm like, did they take this shot directly out of
- 24:35Speaker 10: Twin Peaks? When they were going to the diner and
- 24:39Speaker 10: the log truck drove by.
- 24:40Speaker 8: That goes by a couple of times.
- 24:42Speaker 7: Well, that reminds me of it.
- 24:44Speaker 11: So is the part in the nightclub where she's singing
- 24:47Speaker 11: and there's that red curtain in the background with the
- 24:49Speaker 11: light coming up at the bottom.
- 24:50Speaker 7: You know all of his dream.
- 24:52Speaker 11: Sequences they always had that kind of background what was.
- 24:55Speaker 15: That song that was always in uh twin peaks and
- 24:57Speaker 15: the voices carry was that in twin peaks.
- 25:00Speaker 8: What am i thinking this just really occurs it's yeah
- 25:02Speaker 8: all of her songs sound like all i can remember.
- 25:04Speaker 11: Is the crazy crazy midget guy dancing that just was freaky.
- 25:09Speaker 8: He hadn't run into him yet i guess because he
- 25:11Speaker 8: wasn't in this but ouch Wow. That was awesome.
- 25:14Speaker 7: That was. And then he talked backwards, too.
- 25:16Speaker 8: He's got so many of his other, you know, normal...
- 25:20Speaker 8: I mean, there's so many specific tie-ins in all of
- 25:22Speaker 8: Lynch's stuff, and piecing together some of them is really
- 25:26Speaker 8: kind of weird. But, I mean, you've got the log
- 25:28Speaker 8: truck going by many times. You've got the fire. He's always, like,
- 25:32Speaker 8: even as far back as, like, Elephant Man, he does
- 25:35Speaker 8: these big close-ups of fire. He's got this weird fire
- 25:38Speaker 8: obsession that in this almost does... like represent the evil
- 25:42Speaker 8: like it cuts to it when things are like at
- 25:44Speaker 8: their worst the fire you know the light still sort
- 25:47Speaker 8: of shining is sort of the hope end of it
- 25:49Speaker 8: and as it gets worse and worse is when it
- 25:51Speaker 8: cuts to those shots of it going out and it's
- 25:53Speaker 8: Dennis Hopper going now it's dark yeah so it's yeah
- 25:57Speaker 8: that one's there the red curtain is worked in there
- 26:00Speaker 8: and then it's also worked in in like the apartment
- 26:02Speaker 8: they keep showing that curtain blowing back and forth so
- 26:04Speaker 8: the red curtains there uh the road going by when
- 26:07Speaker 8: frank's driving is that comes back to the lost highway
- 26:11Speaker 8: he totally comes back to that same little thought there
- 26:15Speaker 8: and then the the glowing white light kind of thing
- 26:17Speaker 8: that he definitely worked in a lot on twin peaks
- 26:19Speaker 8: yeah And just in general, I think he likes that
- 26:22Speaker 8: kind of shot.
- 26:23Speaker 10: I was disappointed that he didn't order pie at the diner.
- 26:26Speaker 1: There was no.
- 26:27Speaker 10: Pie and no coffee.
- 26:28Speaker 7: No coffee.
- 26:29Speaker 15: It's like a sandwich or something.
- 26:32Speaker 10: There's no pie, I'll tell you that right now.
- 26:34Speaker 8: No coffee. And no David Lynch sitting there yelling out
- 26:37Speaker 8: the order.
- 26:38Speaker 1: That was awesome.
- 26:40Speaker 8: He's so awesome on Twin Peaks.
- 26:41Speaker 1: God, I want to go home and watch Twin Peaks now.
- 26:43Speaker 11: I think the funny thing is the boyfriend shows up
- 26:45Speaker 11: ready to kick his ass until he sees.
- 26:48Speaker 7: naked isabella rosalini and he's like i'm so sorry man
- 26:51Speaker 7: i'm sorry.
- 26:51Speaker 11: I didn't know is that your mom it's funny when
- 26:55Speaker 11: it's the mom line but after that it's funny because
- 26:57Speaker 11: he almost has that same reaction and that's what i
- 27:00Speaker 11: was noticing this time it.
- 27:01Speaker 8: Was like nudity especially because i had that same reaction
- 27:05Speaker 8: as soon as she comes wandering around i was like
- 27:06Speaker 8: holy shit it was like nudity can be frightening i
- 27:09Speaker 8: mean as much as they use it in movies to
- 27:11Speaker 8: just be like nothing but sex and hot and you
- 27:14Speaker 8: know if you don't set it up that way, you know,
- 27:16Speaker 8: they set up your very traditional love scenes and, you know, your,
- 27:20Speaker 8: your stupid sex comedies. But like when you shove it
- 27:22Speaker 8: into a movie where it doesn't fit normally or in
- 27:25Speaker 8: a way that it's unnatural, it's unnerving and it looks, yeah.
- 27:30Speaker 8: And it looks scary. It's like, I was thinking the
- 27:32Speaker 8: other thing, the other one that always, like I saw
- 27:35Speaker 8: probably way too early, uh, the opening of Carrie, I'm
- 27:39Speaker 8: still kind of trying to recover from the, Scary naked
- 27:42Speaker 8: sissy's face covered in blood running at people.
- 27:45Speaker 7: Oh, yeah, I remember that.
- 27:47Speaker 8: Jesus, that is frightening.
- 27:48Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 27:49Speaker 8: And then I was thinking The Shining, too. Oh, the
- 27:52Speaker 8: old lady? The creepy old lady naked.
- 27:54Speaker 7: Oh, God, yeah, nobody needs to see a creepy old lady.
- 27:56Speaker 8: But just the fact that she's naked, it's just like,
- 27:58Speaker 8: what the fuck? Like, your brain can't process it.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Kathy Bates naked.
- 28:02Speaker 7: Oh, God.
- 28:02Speaker 8: There you go. That, too.
- 28:04Speaker 7: Donald Pleasance.
- 28:05Speaker 8: Other things we don't need to see.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Donald Sutherland falling naked.
- 28:09Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 28:11Speaker 8: So once again, it's like it catches you off guard
- 28:17Speaker 8: and it's like it's just unnerving and it has that
- 28:20Speaker 8: shock appeal that they're kind of going for in this
- 28:23Speaker 8: sort of story. But I think that was another one
- 28:26Speaker 8: I think was based in reality and you start to
- 28:28Speaker 8: see why Lynch is so messed up. I think that
- 28:30Speaker 8: was one of the ones that he... Like, and his
- 28:32Speaker 8: brother were walking home from school one day, and there
- 28:34Speaker 8: was just a naked woman out on the street. And
- 28:36Speaker 8: they weren't, oh boy, a naked woman. They were just,
- 28:38Speaker 8: they started crying. They were frightened. Because they knew, like,
- 28:41Speaker 8: something horrible had happened, you know? You don't end up
- 28:44Speaker 8: in that situation without something horrible going on, more than likely.
- 28:48Speaker 8: So it's, yeah, it's funny that that ties in so much.
- 28:52Speaker 8: You know, how many years later is he making this,
- 28:54Speaker 8: and he's still carrying these weird little images and thoughts around.
- 28:58Speaker 8: So it's, yeah, you start to see why Lynch is
- 29:00Speaker 8: messed up.
- 29:11Speaker 10: Hello, baby.
- 29:12Speaker 3: Shut up.
- 29:14Speaker 7: It's daddy, you shithead. Where's my bourbon? Can't you fucking
- 29:21Speaker 7: remember anything? Now it's dark. Spread your legs.
- 29:46Speaker 3: Wider. Now show it.
- 29:53Speaker 8: It touches on so many different versions of perversion that
- 29:57Speaker 8: it's like, where do you even begin?
- 30:00Speaker 7: You can't.
- 30:00Speaker 8: The voyeurism aspect and then the violence aspect.
- 30:06Speaker 7: The infantilism aspect. Yeah.
- 30:08Speaker 8: And he was almost, like, schizophrenic at the same time
- 30:11Speaker 8: because he's baby and daddy.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:14Speaker 8: She's always mommy, but he switches off midway through because, yeah,
- 30:17Speaker 8: you thought he just had a weird mommy thing, but
- 30:19Speaker 8: then initially he wants her to call him daddy, so
- 30:21Speaker 8: then it's ancestral. Yeah, daddy's here now. Yeah, it becomes
- 30:25Speaker 8: so many levels of messed up. Yikes.
- 30:29Speaker 7: You have no idea.
- 30:30Speaker 8: It's frightening. But in that same scene, it's funny that
- 30:35Speaker 8: this was one that I think on that Pervert's Guide
- 30:37Speaker 8: to Cinema they brought up, and it almost makes sense.
- 30:40Speaker 8: I think he poses the theory that Frank is more
- 30:44Speaker 8: than likely impotent, which would explain why he's so fucking
- 30:48Speaker 8: angry all the time, and most of his sexual interaction
- 30:52Speaker 8: turns into violence. It's all out of complete frustration, and
- 30:58Speaker 8: this has kind of led him to that point, because
- 31:00Speaker 8: you never really see him do anything with her other
- 31:02Speaker 8: than sort of attack her and hump her which yeah
- 31:06Speaker 8: it doesn't even seem like anything would be going on
- 31:08Speaker 8: at that point which it probably wasn't so yeah it
- 31:11Speaker 8: does lead to many other levels i don't know of
- 31:15Speaker 8: when the more you watch the other things going on
- 31:17Speaker 8: and how weird he is about everyone it's like maybe
- 31:21Speaker 8: that's why he's so messed up and so twisted and
- 31:24Speaker 8: so angry and violent is because he he's lost this
- 31:27Speaker 8: other part of his life and all he has left
- 31:29Speaker 8: is just violence and insanity now. But yeah, I thought
- 31:33Speaker 8: that was kind of interesting. I was just, even his, um,
- 31:37Speaker 8: just the way that he looks at the, the whole
- 31:39Speaker 8: relationship as he's sitting there, like watching her sing and
- 31:42Speaker 8: crying half the time. It's like, or when he's watching
- 31:45Speaker 8: Dean Stockwell do that, it's, it's the whole relationship as
- 31:49Speaker 8: he looks at it. He's not even like, he's not crazy.
- 31:53Speaker 8: He's not in the wrong. Like in his mind, This
- 31:56Speaker 8: is like a great love affair. And he's just doing,
- 31:58Speaker 8: you know, what he feels he needs to do to
- 32:01Speaker 8: keep the woman he loves with him, even if it's
- 32:03Speaker 8: fucking crazy. And, you know, kidnapping her husband and cutting
- 32:07Speaker 8: off his ear and kidnapping her child and beating the
- 32:10Speaker 8: hell out of her. You know, he uses whatever tactics
- 32:14Speaker 8: he thinks he needs to keep her there. But at
- 32:15Speaker 8: the same time. He's thinking this is some sort of
- 32:19Speaker 8: normal relationship on some level. He's still totally in love
- 32:23Speaker 8: with her in this weird way.
- 32:24Speaker 15: I hope that never happens to me.
- 32:27Speaker 8: Let's hope not.
- 32:31Speaker 11: This is one of those weird movies where I'm not
- 32:33Speaker 11: sure if you could go on and on for hours
- 32:35Speaker 11: and hours and talk about.
- 32:36Speaker 7: I mean, you probably could, but.
- 32:38Speaker 11: It's one of those where you just kind of like
- 32:40Speaker 11: turn off the TV and you sit there and go, God,
- 32:42Speaker 11: I need to go for a walk.
- 32:44Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 32:44Speaker 1: Or I need to.
- 32:46Speaker 7: Go watch something else.
- 32:48Speaker 8: Pretty much. I mean, it's got a lot of really
- 32:52Speaker 8: heavy stuff thrown at you and a lot of it,
- 32:54Speaker 8: you know, some of it doesn't make sense and the
- 32:57Speaker 8: ones that do, you kind of wish you didn't know anymore.
- 32:59Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 33:01Speaker 4: Oh, man.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Makes me wish we would have chose space truckers. That's
- 33:03Speaker 1: at least fun.
- 33:04Speaker 3: It is fun.
- 33:04Speaker 8: I'll give you that.
- 33:06Speaker 3: Black lock!
- 33:07Speaker 10: God, I love that movie.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Granny panties.
- 33:11Speaker 10: Come on now.
- 33:12Speaker 8: Those are awesome.
- 33:13Speaker 15: Debbie Mazur has a weird face.
- 33:15Speaker 10: She does, but it's still kind of hot.
- 33:17Speaker 8: She's still hot.
- 33:17Speaker 15: Yeah, yeah.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Stephen Dorff, before he was weird looking. And a jacket.
- 33:25Speaker 10: She's always been a jacket.
- 33:25Speaker 8: Come on, he's always been a jacket.
- 33:27Speaker 10: But he wore bike shorts in himself.
- 33:30Speaker 8: He's a panda.
- 33:30Speaker 7: Towards the end, I couldn't understand it. It seemed like
- 33:32Speaker 7: they could get Hopper to do anything.
- 33:36Speaker 8: As far as what? As far as movies?
- 33:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 33:40Speaker 7: I didn't know.
- 33:41Speaker 11: Was he hurting for money that bad, or was he
- 33:43Speaker 11: just kind of like, hey, I'll do that?
- 33:45Speaker 8: That's the thing. I mean, he had a lot, especially
- 33:47Speaker 8: by the end, because once he cleaned himself up and
- 33:50Speaker 8: started getting real roles, I mean, he kind of did
- 33:52Speaker 8: okay and quit blowing all his money on drugs and
- 33:55Speaker 8: spent it all on art and started, like, accumulating all
- 33:58Speaker 8: this stuff that I mean he was creating art but
- 34:00Speaker 8: at the same time I think just his collection is
- 34:02Speaker 8: what had so much so I mean by the end
- 34:04Speaker 8: he shouldn't have been hurting for money.
- 34:06Speaker 1: What was the explanation for the crow movie because I think.
- 34:09Speaker 8: He just likes to work I mean you look at
- 34:11Speaker 8: that list of movies he made well before he was
- 34:13Speaker 8: on drugs he made 50 60 movies I mean so
- 34:17Speaker 8: even before he got on the hard times when he
- 34:20Speaker 8: was probably just using a good amount recreationally because I'm
- 34:22Speaker 8: assuming you have to go back pretty far before he
- 34:24Speaker 8: was on some sort of drugs but Even then, I mean,
- 34:27Speaker 8: go back and look at how many movies he was in, like,
- 34:30Speaker 8: way back when, I mean, he was just on set.
- 34:32Speaker 8: He was just some random side character, but, I mean,
- 34:35Speaker 8: I think he just liked working. Even by the end,
- 34:38Speaker 8: it's like, I guess even if it wasn't the best project,
- 34:41Speaker 8: I think he just liked making movies.
- 34:43Speaker 15: It was.
- 34:45Speaker 8: What he loved doing.
- 34:46Speaker 1: And nobody could play crazy like him.
- 34:48Speaker 8: That's true.
- 34:49Speaker 10: I mean, River's Edge, I mean, that's like somebody mentioned,
- 34:51Speaker 10: you know, somebody suggested we do it, which we already
- 34:53Speaker 10: did it, but I mean, we touched on that again.
- 34:55Speaker 7: Love River's Edge.
- 34:55Speaker 10: Just the level of craziness that he had in there
- 34:58Speaker 10: was just, you can't beat that.
- 34:59Speaker 1: I mean, nobody can be that crazy. Maybe Christopher Walken.
- 35:03Speaker 8: But that's... No, yeah. But he's almost, well, I mean,
- 35:05Speaker 8: they both have this nature of being over the top,
- 35:08Speaker 8: but I think I don't know, it works on both levels,
- 35:11Speaker 8: because that's what I was thinking with this one, because
- 35:13Speaker 8: Hopper said he didn't improvise any of that dialogue. All
- 35:17Speaker 8: of that is how Lynch wrote it, which is even scarier, actually. So,
- 35:20Speaker 8: to me, I think the fact that, because to read that,
- 35:24Speaker 8: and even just listen to what is supposed to be said,
- 35:28Speaker 8: you would think it would just be funny. I mean,
- 35:30Speaker 8: the stuff that he rattles off, and the stream of
- 35:34Speaker 8: obscenities thrown together... Should be, like, completely ridiculous to the
- 35:38Speaker 8: point that you would start laughing, but he's so intense
- 35:41Speaker 8: and so frightening that, like, he makes it still, on
- 35:45Speaker 8: top of that, he makes it fucking scary. And it's, yeah,
- 35:49Speaker 8: I think that's just such a testament to him as
- 35:52Speaker 8: an actor, because Lynch was almost working against him, writing
- 35:55Speaker 8: this silly dialogue for him, but he's so fucking good
- 35:59Speaker 8: in this that he sells it. I mean, he makes
- 36:01Speaker 8: it still scary. On top of the constant fuck.
- 36:05Speaker 17: You know?
- 36:06Speaker 1: Every other word.
- 36:07Speaker 8: And they make that joke all the time in many movies.
- 36:09Speaker 8: But no, literally here. Every other word out of his
- 36:11Speaker 8: mouth is fuck. Sometimes two in a row. And he...
- 36:15Speaker 8: I mean, it just.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Who else is going to pull off? I want to
- 36:17Speaker 1: fuck it in in the mood! I mean, seriously.
- 36:19Speaker 10: Who else is going to pull it off?
- 36:20Speaker 8: A lot of people wish they could deliver that line
- 36:22Speaker 8: and pull it off. But no, only Dennis Hopper.
- 36:24Speaker 1: I mean, back to his character in River's Edge.
- 36:26Speaker 10: I mean, I was going to talk about his character
- 36:28Speaker 10: in that one.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Because it was just.
- 36:30Speaker 10: Another one of those that if with any other actor
- 36:32Speaker 10: would it have been as, you know, awesome as it
- 36:34Speaker 10: was within a, you know, anybody else have pulled that
- 36:36Speaker 10: off as well. Cause I mean, yes.
- 36:37Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 36:37Speaker 7: Did you do research for that?
- 36:39Speaker 11: Because I know some old crazy bikers that are like that,
- 36:41Speaker 11: that you're just completely fucking nuts.
- 36:44Speaker 8: Well, it's funny that these were like one after the
- 36:47Speaker 8: other almost, I think. And his other big role, he
- 36:50Speaker 8: did like blue velvet Hoosiers and then river's edge. So
- 36:53Speaker 8: it's like, he came back with like these three massive
- 36:56Speaker 8: roles right out of the gate of rehab and.
- 36:58Speaker 10: They weren't even that big of a part. They weren't
- 37:02Speaker 10: about him. He wasn't the main character.
- 37:04Speaker 1: In many of those.
- 37:05Speaker 10: But yet his character takes the movie, and he becomes
- 37:08Speaker 10: the most memorable part of the movie. He owns the movie,
- 37:10Speaker 10: even though he's not the main character.
- 37:13Speaker 8: Definitely in this one, Hoosiers, he got an Oscar nomination,
- 37:16Speaker 8: and he's not the lead.
- 37:17Speaker 7: He's just.
- 37:18Speaker 8: kind of one of the dads and becomes an assistant
- 37:21Speaker 8: coach or something.
- 37:21Speaker 1: He's the main thing i remember about that.
- 37:23Speaker 8: Movie and it's a different it's funny because he's so
- 37:26Speaker 8: crazy in blue velvet and river's edge but it's a
- 37:29Speaker 8: totally different kind of crazy it's like it's kind of
- 37:31Speaker 8: crazy it's more sad in river's edge where this is
- 37:33Speaker 8: just frightening it's it's so i mean to be able
- 37:36Speaker 8: to play that level of crazy and play it nuanced
- 37:39Speaker 8: you know to play it very differently.
- 37:40Speaker 10: Has the sad look the sad aspect in blue velvet
- 37:43Speaker 10: like when the guy's singing you look at him you
- 37:45Speaker 10: can tell how damaged he is yeah it's it's You know,
- 37:48Speaker 10: it's almost heartbreaking at that point, even though you know
- 37:50Speaker 10: how fucking insane he is and all the things he's done.
- 37:52Speaker 10: It's like, for a moment, you almost feel sorry for
- 37:55Speaker 10: him because you know bad things have happened to him
- 37:56Speaker 10: to get him where he is at that point.
- 37:58Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 37:59Speaker 8: I mean, you can't ever truly hate him because you
- 38:02Speaker 8: know how damaged he is, and that's... But.
- 38:04Speaker 10: That's when you actually see it.
- 38:05Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 38:06Speaker 8: Yeah. But, I mean, they're all kind of... Well, I mean,
- 38:09Speaker 8: the Dorothy character is such a mess, too, because, like
- 38:12Speaker 8: I said, with the whole sexual thing, but then you
- 38:14Speaker 8: see her... As soon as she gets the upper hand,
- 38:16Speaker 8: once she's got Kamala Glock on there with a knife,
- 38:18Speaker 8: she becomes Frank. Yeah, don't look at me. Don't fucking
- 38:21Speaker 8: look at me. Don't touch me. And don't touch me.
- 38:24Speaker 8: And then she's also just completely in charge. Where do
- 38:26Speaker 8: you ever see her yelling at or giving orders to Frank? No.
- 38:29Speaker 8: Hell no, because she knows what would happen.
- 38:32Speaker 1: He's got her kid, I mean.
- 38:34Speaker 7: Just in general.
- 38:35Speaker 8: I can't imagine anybody yelling orders at Frank.
- 38:38Speaker 7: That goes with the old rule of the shit rolls downhill.
- 38:41Speaker 8: But it is fair. funny how much she plays into
- 38:45Speaker 8: that little scenario too if she's so damaged and she
- 38:49Speaker 8: i mean that that's kind of what they wanted to
- 38:50Speaker 8: play her as why she's got that scary hair which
- 38:53Speaker 8: is really scary i don't understand but she's.
- 38:56Speaker 11: Wearing a wig obviously she takes it off at one
- 38:58Speaker 11: point but yet she puts it back.
- 38:59Speaker 8: On they wanted to make sure that she took it
- 39:02Speaker 8: off because they wanted people to know that it wasn't
- 39:04Speaker 8: real number one i think because it looks so bad
- 39:06Speaker 8: but at the same time i think because it becomes
- 39:09Speaker 8: part of her whole identity like everything about her is
- 39:12Speaker 8: fake really like her whole you know that she she
- 39:15Speaker 8: puts on the the whole act that everything's okay you
- 39:19Speaker 8: know just to get through all that she has to
- 39:21Speaker 8: get through she puts up with all this but i
- 39:23Speaker 8: mean everything her about her is is fake and this
- 39:26Speaker 8: you know camouflage that she uses to cover up the
- 39:29Speaker 8: fact that all of this is falling apart and she's
- 39:32Speaker 8: just completely damaged and.
- 39:34Speaker 11: Well that's like what you hear a lot of times
- 39:35Speaker 11: about abuse victims and stuff a lot of times they
- 39:37Speaker 11: will in their mind their mind will somehow turn themselves
- 39:42Speaker 11: into someone else or something else to kind of.
- 39:45Speaker 8: Cope with what.
- 39:46Speaker 11: They're going through you know a lot of times they
- 39:48Speaker 11: end up forgetting a lot of things and stuff but
- 39:50Speaker 11: I guess that's kind of where she's coming from. She's
- 39:53Speaker 11: morphed into this person to kind of protect her real identity.
- 39:56Speaker 8: Just, yeah, hiding who she really is to not have
- 39:59Speaker 8: to deal with it almost.
- 40:00Speaker 10: And how messed up is her kid going to be
- 40:02Speaker 10: when he grows up?
- 40:02Speaker 7: I don't know. Who puts a kid in a beanie
- 40:05Speaker 7: with a propeller?
- 40:07Speaker 8: That is the scary part.
- 40:09Speaker 15: It wasn't even a beanie. It was like a party hat.
- 40:11Speaker 7: Yeah, it was a pointy hat. It was like a
- 40:13Speaker 7: cross between a dunce cap and a beanie.
- 40:15Speaker 10: It was a.
- 40:17Speaker 8: I mean, it's fine if you have a sleepover at
- 40:20Speaker 8: Uncle Ben's. That's fine. But don't put that damn hat
- 40:23Speaker 8: on the kid.
- 40:25Speaker 3: Oh, man.
- 40:27Speaker 8: It's funny just looking at the overall layout of the movie, though,
- 40:30Speaker 8: because it's built as this big mystery.
- 40:32Speaker 9: It's a mystery.
- 40:32Speaker 8: I'm like, this mystery isn't much of a mystery, really.
- 40:35Speaker 8: You kind of know what's going on. It's very straightforward.
- 40:39Speaker 8: It's just him discovering it, but it's not like he's
- 40:42Speaker 8: really figuring things out.
- 40:43Speaker 11: It's like him getting thrust in this world of just dark, nasty, violent,
- 40:50Speaker 11: just craziness.
- 40:51Speaker 1: And all you're waiting for is the resolution.
- 40:53Speaker 10: Like, all right, how's he going to get out of this?
- 40:55Speaker 10: How is this going to end?
- 40:56Speaker 11: There's several chances where he has the opportunity to get
- 40:59Speaker 11: out of it.
- 41:00Speaker 8: Just walk away.
- 41:00Speaker 11: He turns around and walks right back into it. Because
- 41:03Speaker 11: for some reason, he's drawn to it.
- 41:05Speaker 8: It's that seduction end of it. Especially once he gets
- 41:08Speaker 8: involved with the Dorothy character. I think in the beginning,
- 41:10Speaker 8: it's just that voyeuristic aspect of, I want to see
- 41:13Speaker 8: what's going on.
- 41:14Speaker 7: I want to, you know, I want to.
- 41:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:16Speaker 8: Figure things out it was that curiosity end of it
- 41:18Speaker 8: in the very beginning but once he's involved with Dorothy
- 41:21Speaker 8: he really does have this weird relationship with her that,
- 41:24Speaker 8: you know, I don't think he loves her because he
- 41:27Speaker 8: still really does seem to be in love with the
- 41:29Speaker 8: Laura Dern character. He just wants to save her. He's
- 41:31Speaker 8: drawn to her to be, yeah, part of her sick.
- 41:34Speaker 10: You know.
- 41:34Speaker 1: He wants some of that crazy booty.
- 41:36Speaker 8: He kind of does. I mean, part of it is
- 41:38Speaker 8: the sexual thing because, you know, again, he's kind of
- 41:41Speaker 8: a dork in his real life. So you're assuming.
- 41:43Speaker 10: I don't picture Laura Dern's character putting out.
- 41:45Speaker 7: No, probably not.
- 41:46Speaker 8: Especially with a corporate ad. She probably... He better not
- 41:49Speaker 8: be getting any of that. He's gonna get some somewhere.
- 41:51Speaker 3: No.
- 41:53Speaker 8: So yeah, I think it does draw him into that
- 41:55Speaker 8: weird world. And I think my favorite part that they
- 42:00Speaker 8: work into this is the ear thing that sort of
- 42:03Speaker 8: ties it together, much like the bugs. When he finds
- 42:06Speaker 8: it at the beginning, actually everything up until that point...
- 42:09Speaker 8: is all perfect. And you know, with the exception of
- 42:12Speaker 8: his dad, it's like everything else is still pretty perfect
- 42:14Speaker 8: in their little, you get all those shots of perfection
- 42:16Speaker 8: and the flowers and the firemen going by and, and
- 42:19Speaker 8: it's this perfect little town. And then he finds the
- 42:21Speaker 8: ear and.
- 42:23Speaker 9: It, who do I?
- 42:23Speaker 10: It's a perfect little Norman Rockwell thing.
- 42:25Speaker 8: It really is. And, and then he finds the ear
- 42:27Speaker 8: and it does that super zoom close up into the ear.
- 42:31Speaker 8: And then from there, it's just like a fucking roller coaster.
- 42:34Speaker 8: It's like, it takes him into this dark, twisted little
- 42:37Speaker 8: version of hell. Basically. And then in the end, we
- 42:40Speaker 8: get that where the shot comes back out of his ear,
- 42:43Speaker 8: and it's like it's through. It's like everything's good again.
- 42:46Speaker 8: It's like he's made it through this, you know, this
- 42:48Speaker 8: ride of, you know, hell, basically. It's the whole thing,
- 42:52Speaker 8: like the whole movie, once it enters into that part,
- 42:54Speaker 8: it's just like him just being sucked into this evil world.
- 42:58Speaker 8: I think the movie.
- 43:00Speaker 15: Poster should have said, and it all started with an ear.
- 43:04Speaker 8: I'd go see that. That sounds really sick and twisted.
- 43:07Speaker 10: I just find it hard believing that after all that,
- 43:11Speaker 10: that everything's just going to be bright and sunny and
- 43:13Speaker 10: sunshiny and everything.
- 43:14Speaker 8: Especially with those two. There's not going to be any.
- 43:16Speaker 7: Long, lingering trauma.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Everything's going to be sunshine and robins.
- 43:21Speaker 7: He's trying to put it behind him. Mechanical robins.
- 43:24Speaker 1: But still, there's going to be that trauma that's deep inside.
- 43:26Speaker 1: When's he going to snap?
- 43:28Speaker 10: When's he going to, you know, when Laura Dern probably
- 43:30Speaker 10: does put out, is she going to beat the hell
- 43:32Speaker 10: out of her afterwards?
- 43:34Speaker 1: It's a repressed thing. Is it just going to snap?
- 43:37Speaker 8: And maybe that's part of it. Well, maybe that's part
- 43:40Speaker 8: of it. God, I love this movie. It's just always
- 43:45Speaker 8: underlying there. I mean, it really, I mean, even when
- 43:47Speaker 8: things seem nice, obviously they aren't. So, I mean, even
- 43:50Speaker 8: once they get out of that situation, I mean, hell,
- 43:53Speaker 8: as long as you're alive at any given moment, things
- 43:55Speaker 8: can just go to hell. And I don't know, it
- 43:58Speaker 8: is one of those that... You have to fight it,
- 44:01Speaker 8: I suppose. I mean, it is one of those, he's
- 44:03Speaker 8: fighting the demon within him. So, I mean, I guess
- 44:06Speaker 8: he's in charge of, from there on out, trying to
- 44:09Speaker 8: not become like Frank and not give in to the
- 44:12Speaker 8: dark side that everybody sort of has.
- 44:14Speaker 10: I don't know.
- 44:15Speaker 8: I think it's just amazing... Again, this is definitely one
- 44:20Speaker 8: of Lynch's best because it's so tight, and so it
- 44:23Speaker 8: doesn't get sidetracked on his craziness.
- 44:26Speaker 1: It doesn't make your head want to explode.
- 44:29Speaker 8: Yeah, well, it doesn't become so confusing that it ceases
- 44:33Speaker 8: to be a good story anymore, which he gets into
- 44:36Speaker 8: that area in several other movies.
- 44:38Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 44:39Speaker 8: This one is such... Eraserhead? Well, that doesn't even really
- 44:42Speaker 8: have a story. Lost Highway?
- 44:43Speaker 7: Good God.
- 44:44Speaker 8: Lost Highway? I'd almost want to go back and watch,
- 44:46Speaker 8: because that has one, but it's so... Again, it gets
- 44:49Speaker 8: almost to the point of confusion to where you can't even...
- 44:52Speaker 8: I mean, this one is still such a straightforward story. That, yes,
- 44:56Speaker 8: it's messed up all the way through, but the story
- 44:59Speaker 8: itself is really well pieced together and simple. Where, yeah,
- 45:03Speaker 8: so much of his other stuff is just, you know,
- 45:05Speaker 8: gets out of control. This is probably him almost at
- 45:08Speaker 8: his best. And just visually, it's all amazing. Just all
- 45:11Speaker 8: those shots, all the creepy industrial shots over at Frank's.
- 45:15Speaker 8: I mean, he works that into everything. Even there where
- 45:17Speaker 8: you don't necessarily have to have it, but he wanted...
- 45:20Speaker 8: that part of town to be dark and creepy. It's
- 45:22Speaker 8: the dirty part of town. Yeah, he wanted that.
- 45:24Speaker 7: It's always the dirty, seedy, industrial part of town. That's
- 45:27Speaker 7: where I work. It's dirty. It's bad neighborhoods. It's where
- 45:30Speaker 7: you don't want to be at night.
- 45:32Speaker 8: And that's where Frank exists. So yeah, that's just like
- 45:36Speaker 8: a weird.
- 45:36Speaker 7: Kyle McLaughlin wakes up.
- 45:37Speaker 8: So yeah, it's a strange world. I guess what you
- 45:42Speaker 8: take from it. What you do from there is up
- 45:44Speaker 8: to you. I did notice how... I don't think I've remembered,
- 45:49Speaker 8: because I hadn't watched this in forever, how much, I guess,
- 45:52Speaker 8: Tarantino was influenced by this. Because I'd always thought the
- 45:55Speaker 8: Pulp Fiction character was sort of a version of her,
- 45:59Speaker 8: an almost more attractive version of her. I don't get
- 46:03Speaker 8: the Isabella Rossellini thing.
- 46:05Speaker 10: She's just strange looking.
- 46:05Speaker 7: I don't... Yeah.
- 46:07Speaker 1: Made me want to hit her, too.
- 46:08Speaker 8: I mean... I mean... The what, huh? Isabella Rossellini. I
- 46:11Speaker 8: just never got into her as a... I don't think
- 46:14Speaker 8: she's hot.
- 46:14Speaker 7: I'm sorry.
- 46:15Speaker 3: Okay.
- 46:15Speaker 8: I think she's weird.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Not even in a B-cost?
- 46:16Speaker 7: No, no, no.
- 46:17Speaker 8: Not even in a B-cost.
- 46:18Speaker 7: I was trying to figure out what the tie-in was
- 46:19Speaker 7: with Tarantino.
- 46:20Speaker 8: But the Pulp Fiction, the... Butch's girlfriend. To me, she's
- 46:25Speaker 8: kind of got, she's got the dark hair. She's got
- 46:27Speaker 8: the accent. She's got, you know, she, she's sort of
- 46:30Speaker 8: like a, just sort of a minor nod to that,
- 46:33Speaker 8: which I always thought that. See, she's so cute about it.
- 46:37Speaker 8: That's the thing that, you know, she's so good at it,
- 46:39Speaker 8: but in this one, you don't, I don't know. You
- 46:41Speaker 8: don't feel too much for her. You know, she's, she's
- 46:43Speaker 8: still such a weird, twisted, cold character that you, you
- 46:47Speaker 8: don't get sucked in by her. Whereas at least in
- 46:49Speaker 8: Pulp Fiction, she's very likable. But then the, I forgot,
- 46:52Speaker 8: I mean, the ear. Jesus, it's like cutting off an
- 46:55Speaker 8: ear and then at the end you've got a guy
- 46:57Speaker 8: tied to a chair with his ear cut off. I'm like, okay,
- 47:00Speaker 8: that's not subtle at all. So it wasn't but like, what,
- 47:04Speaker 8: a couple of years went by. It wasn't that long.
- 47:07Speaker 7: And you had reservoir dogs.
- 47:08Speaker 8: A decade or so and you get reservoir dogs. So yeah, it's...
- 47:11Speaker 8: He's definitely felt in the Tarantino world. But other than that,
- 47:17Speaker 8: I don't know. I think we've covered many of the twisted,
- 47:19Speaker 8: messed up areas here.
- 47:21Speaker 7: I'm out of stuff.
- 47:22Speaker 14: I'm good.
- 47:23Speaker 15: Me too.
- 47:24Speaker 8: So if nothing else, we'll go to the music world,
- 47:27Speaker 8: which there is a good amount of songs that have
- 47:30Speaker 8: been affected by this movie and have tied it into theirs.
- 47:34Speaker 8: The first one we're going to go with actually is
- 47:37Speaker 8: As a tie, I actually did an interview with the
- 47:40Speaker 8: people who made a documentary about this band, but it's
- 47:43Speaker 8: the Gits, and the lead singer was actually from our
- 47:47Speaker 8: town here and had a bad story herself. Ended in
- 47:51Speaker 8: a very bad way, too. So if you don't know
- 47:53Speaker 8: anything about the Gits, yeah, find out more about them
- 47:55Speaker 8: because they're pretty awesome anyway. But they did a song
- 47:58Speaker 8: called Here's to Your Fuck. I think that's the way
- 48:02Speaker 8: to round out this part.
- 48:03Speaker 15: I don't know if you're a detective or a pervert.
- 48:06Speaker 7: It's for me to know and you to find out.
- 48:08Speaker 13: It's for me to know and.
- 48:23Speaker 5: You to find out.
- 49:13Speaker 2: It's time to stretch and fetch. See what's cooking at

- 49:30Speaker 2: yourself now.
- 49:33Speaker 15: Don't be frightened.
- 49:34Speaker 11: He won't hurt you.
- 49:35Speaker 10: He won't hurt you.
- 49:37Speaker 3: He won't hurt you.
- 49:43Speaker 17: You will feel the chill of horror. Yet this is
- 49:47Speaker 17: not a horror story. You will feel the warmth of love.
- 49:54Speaker 17: Yet this is not a love story. It is the
- 49:57Speaker 17: shocking true story of a very real monster who was
- 50:02Speaker 17: also a very real human being. Ladies and gentlemen, the terrible.
- 50:12Speaker 12: Elephant.
- 50:15Speaker 3: Man.
- 50:18Speaker 17: Man's a complete idiot.
- 50:21Speaker 7: Pray to God he's an idiot.
- 50:22Speaker 17: Supposing he's an intelligent man trapped in some monstrous body.
- 50:27Speaker 3: Where have you been?
- 50:29Speaker 8: What did you do?
- 50:30Speaker 11: Please don't!
- 50:33Speaker 8: I know exactly what you've done to him and he's
- 50:35Speaker 8: never going back to that.
- 50:37Speaker 11: Don't you understand me?
- 50:38Speaker 4: He's a freak.
- 50:40Speaker 8: That's how they live.
- 50:42Speaker 10: We are partners, he and I.
- 50:45Speaker 8: Terrible though his appearance is, he is superior in intelligence.
- 50:49Speaker 10: He can read and write. He's quiet, gentle.
- 50:53Speaker 15: Not to say even refined in his mind.
- 50:55Speaker 9: Can you imagine the kind of life he must have had?
- 50:59Speaker 15: Yes, I think I can.
- 51:01Speaker 8: I don't believe so.
- 51:02Speaker 7: No one could possibly imagine it.
- 51:04Speaker 9: I don't believe any of us can.
- 51:06Speaker 12: Where is he?
- 51:07Speaker 9: I don't know what you mean, sir.
- 51:09Speaker 10: He's gone!
- 51:10Speaker 4: He's gone!
- 51:14Speaker 10: Anthony Hopkins Anne Bancroft.
- 51:16Speaker 7: John Gielgud.
- 51:43Speaker 17: Wendy Hiller and John Hurt as the Elephant Man. A
- 51:50Speaker 17: shattering experience. For the right price, you will see something
- 51:56Speaker 17: you'll never ever see again in your life.

- 52:17Speaker 3: It's part of your problem.
- 52:18Speaker 8: You know you haven't seen enough movies all.
- 52:21Speaker 14: Of life's riddles are answered in the movies and now
- 52:25Speaker 14: on with the show.
- 52:29Speaker 8: Let's fuck!
- 52:32Speaker 18: I'll fuck anything that moves!
- 52:39Speaker 13: Don't you fucking.
- 52:53Speaker 5: Look at me! Baby wants velvet, baby wants the fuck
- 53:02Speaker 5: I rub a little velvet when I watch you sing
- 53:06Speaker 5: Turn on the gas.
- 53:06Speaker 13: You're like me.
- 53:24Speaker 3: Alright, we are back and we've got feedback. Yay, feedback.
- 53:28Speaker 15: Yay!
- 53:48Speaker 8: Are you okay?
- 53:50Speaker 15: No. I'm in exhaustion.
- 53:53Speaker 8: This week we hear back from Metal Mikey.
- 53:55Speaker 10: Aw, hey, Metal Mikey.
- 53:57Speaker 4: Hey, hey, Movie Meltdown. This is Metal Mikey getting in
- 54:01Speaker 4: touch with you again. This is not so much for
- 54:04Speaker 4: a movie in advance. This is just sort of thoughts
- 54:06Speaker 4: that I wanted to catch up on with a recent
- 54:09Speaker 4: episode I listened to, which would be the fantabulous duo
- 54:12Speaker 4: of the Wookie Palooza episodes. And a small aside, I
- 54:18Speaker 4: do have the honor and privilege of having met Peter Mayhew,
- 54:22Speaker 4: I think it was like around last year or the
- 54:23Speaker 4: year before or so, when I was assisting at a
- 54:27Speaker 4: local toy fair that was being run by the 501st
- 54:32Speaker 4: Star Wars Costuming Group. Great gentleman, hell of a nice guy.
- 54:37Speaker 4: But I understand... For some strange reason, it seems like
- 54:41Speaker 4: every time I pick up on an episode of Movie Mountain,
- 54:44Speaker 4: it's like, possibly half of the people are there. I mean,
- 54:47Speaker 4: what the hell's up? God, are you sure, like, having
- 54:50Speaker 4: a rotating roster? That's just crazy, man.
- 54:53Speaker 8: Crazy.
- 54:54Speaker 4: But another side of craziness is a lot of my
- 54:57Speaker 4: stuff in this episode seems to be addressed specifically to Marlena. So,
- 55:01Speaker 4: you know, hey, you might want to listen up. First off,
- 55:04Speaker 4: I think she hit up on an excellent movie concept.
- 55:08Speaker 4: I would love to see a development for Snake-demic coming up,
- 55:13Speaker 4: but also, I'm with her. I love Little Monsters. I
- 55:18Speaker 4: don't get all the hate here, but then again, there's
- 55:20Speaker 4: something else I don't get in this episode in particular,
- 55:22Speaker 4: which is the sort of love acceptance for the Resident
- 55:26Speaker 4: Evil movies. I mean, no disrespect to all of you,
- 55:29Speaker 4: but to me, they're honestly mediocre at best. They're not
- 55:32Speaker 4: really that good movies.
- 55:35Speaker 3: Uh.
- 55:35Speaker 4: the hot rumor of the episode was of course megan
- 55:38Speaker 4: fox not being part of transformers 3 i guarantee you
- 55:42Speaker 4: people all you listeners and movie meltdown i guarantee you
- 55:47Speaker 4: that with megan fox not being in the third transformers
- 55:49Speaker 4: movie give her about a year we won't even hear
- 55:52Speaker 4: about her ever again in terms of filmmaking i mean
- 55:57Speaker 4: what great film role is she going to have And
- 56:02Speaker 4: right now I'm waiting for a dumbass biker to cross
- 56:04Speaker 4: the street. But anyways, yeah, what great world is she
- 56:08Speaker 4: going to be known for? I mean, her big paycheck
- 56:11Speaker 4: is now pretty much out the window. So give her
- 56:14Speaker 4: about a year, I guarantee you nobody's going to even
- 56:16Speaker 4: think about Megan Fox anymore. And I did also want
- 56:20Speaker 4: to bring up the random-ass local Louisville phenomenon, apparently, of having, oh, geez,
- 56:28Speaker 4: Kurt Loder graffiti up around town. I guarantee you it
- 56:32Speaker 4: would be more awesome if Adam Curry received random-ass, you know, graffiti. Oh, shit,
- 56:37Speaker 4: I almost forgot the one other thing about the Marlena Palooza,
- 56:41Speaker 4: which is, Tiny Toons has indeed been started to be
- 56:45Speaker 4: collected on DVD, so rest assured, that is available. Now,
- 56:51Speaker 4: as for the movie of the episode, Terror, you tickled
- 56:56Speaker 4: my fancy. I mean, I watch a lot of incredible
- 56:58Speaker 4: bullshit for my own little podcast.
- 57:01Speaker 8: Extra Traction, but.
- 57:05Speaker 4: I love just the random ass stuff that's just sort
- 57:07Speaker 4: of like, wait, what? This is happening, huh? So you
- 57:13Speaker 4: intrigued me greatly with the concept of this movie, Terror.
- 57:19Speaker 4: or terror, or however you pronounce it. But I will say,
- 57:26Speaker 4: if you need anybody to take up the banner for
- 57:29Speaker 4: making Bad Time with Brenda, if you want somebody to
- 57:32Speaker 4: make Bad Time with Brenda a living, breathing reality film,
- 57:38Speaker 4: Give me a few months, okay? Maybe I'll come up
- 57:40Speaker 4: with a script treatment. You never know. But anyways, excellent job.
- 57:44Speaker 4: Half of the movie meltdown roster on this episode. Kept
- 57:47Speaker 4: me laughing, kept me entertained. And I, of course, will
- 57:50Speaker 4: talk to you again sometime soonish, all right? You take care.
- 57:54Speaker 4: Talk to you later.
- 57:54Speaker 8: Bye.
- 57:56Speaker 1: Snake-demic? What is the snake-demic?
- 57:58Speaker 7: You know, for the phone.
- 57:59Speaker 8: Snake.
- 58:01Speaker 10: Oh.
- 58:02Speaker 7: Oh, I don't know.
- 58:02Speaker 1: I have no idea.
- 58:04Speaker 11: As for the Resident Evil movies, I never actually, I
- 58:06Speaker 11: don't know about Roger, but I never really thought they
- 58:08Speaker 11: were great movies as far as like, you know, cinematic genius.
- 58:15Speaker 11: But you know what? They got things in it that
- 58:17Speaker 11: I like. They got zombies, it's got Mila Jovovich, and
- 58:20Speaker 11: it's got a lot of guns.
- 58:21Speaker 7: And a lot of shit blowing up and people getting shot.
- 58:24Speaker 7: And that appeals to me.
- 58:26Speaker 1: They're fun.
- 58:27Speaker 10: They're, you know, cinematic genius work. She's never going to
- 58:31Speaker 10: win an Oscar for this, but they're fun.
- 58:32Speaker 7: They are fun.
- 58:33Speaker 8: I was not all that impressed with the first one.
- 58:35Speaker 8: I don't remember the second one. I might have seen it,
- 58:38Speaker 8: but I did just, the third one is the only
- 58:40Speaker 8: one I'd watched recently, and I did kind of like
- 58:42Speaker 8: that one. I thought visually it looked a little better
- 58:44Speaker 8: than the other two.
- 58:45Speaker 1: I liked the first one the best, though.
- 58:47Speaker 8: I think well i just i like the outdoors like
- 58:49Speaker 8: we really hadn't got everything was so contained in that
- 58:51Speaker 8: first movie to that one little inside the building that
- 58:54Speaker 8: we finally got outside we got all these cool desert
- 58:56Speaker 8: shots the bird scenes were really cool it's like i
- 58:59Speaker 8: actually liked a lot of what they did with the
- 59:01Speaker 8: third one again it's not great it's not amazing it's
- 59:04Speaker 8: certainly not the best movie of that type or zombies
- 59:07Speaker 8: if you want to consider it a regular zombie movie
- 59:09Speaker 8: but they're fun.
- 59:10Speaker 11: Each his own and it just happens to be one
- 59:13Speaker 11: that i like.
- 59:14Speaker 8: They're entertaining that's really all you ask for and nobody's you.
- 59:17Speaker 7: Know i can like it just me so yeah.
- 59:20Speaker 8: Um what was.
- 59:23Speaker 7: The other comment uh the the change up in the roster. Yeah.
- 59:27Speaker 8: Which as for the crew, dude, dude, we're like.
- 59:30Speaker 7: We're like a basketball team. Okay. Sometimes you got to
- 59:32Speaker 7: have some of them sit out and then bring new
- 59:34Speaker 7: players in.
- 59:35Speaker 15: So, uh, it's hard to get six people to dedicate
- 59:39Speaker 15: five hours every Sunday without fail.
- 59:43Speaker 8: It's, it's hard to do. I mean, that, that's sort
- 59:45Speaker 8: of the one must do have lives.
- 59:48Speaker 7: Well, I'm not.
- 59:49Speaker 8: Included in that, but I got a.
- 59:50Speaker 11: Lot of work to do, a lot of work to do.
- 59:53Speaker 11: So between that and, uh, club stuff and a kid I'm.
- 59:59Speaker 7: Just lazy yeah I got a kid.
- 1:00:03Speaker 8: Oh man it's one of those things it's a lot
- 1:00:07Speaker 8: easier especially for you most of the time I think
- 1:00:12Speaker 8: he's flying solo which on the one hand is a
- 1:00:14Speaker 8: lot easier to schedule but it doesn't give you a
- 1:00:16Speaker 8: lot of interaction you have to feed on your listeners
- 1:00:19Speaker 8: so on that one I don't envy you because I
- 1:00:22Speaker 8: kind of like the conversations that we get into But
- 1:00:25Speaker 8: as far as the scheduling people together, yeah, you got
- 1:00:27Speaker 8: to cut some slack. Because, yeah, you try to get,
- 1:00:30Speaker 8: you know, several of your friends together each week, every week, religiously.
- 1:00:35Speaker 8: It's pretty damned impossible.
- 1:00:37Speaker 7: And some of us work weird schedules.
- 1:00:39Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:00:40Speaker 8: It's hard to find one day period, let alone, you know,
- 1:00:43Speaker 8: once things mix up. Like, next week is a good example.
- 1:00:46Speaker 8: We're going to be veering off for that very reason. Like,
- 1:00:49Speaker 8: nobody could be here.
- 1:00:49Speaker 15: Oh, yeah, good, because I want to go to IKEA
- 1:00:51Speaker 15: next week.
- 1:00:52Speaker 10: Oh, God.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: I was going to say.
- 1:00:54Speaker 15: I probably won't make it next Sunday.
- 1:00:56Speaker 7: It's Father's Day, so... And then we'll be in Florida
- 1:00:59Speaker 7: for two weeks. And then we'll be in Florida for
- 1:01:00Speaker 7: two weeks.
- 1:01:00Speaker 8: Then we've got vacation coming up for at least two
- 1:01:03Speaker 8: of the crew. So, yeah, it's constant... But even in
- 1:01:06Speaker 8: the beginning, like, from the conception of the whole, you know, show,
- 1:01:09Speaker 8: the whole idea initially was I still, I wanted a
- 1:01:13Speaker 8: group of regulars, but at the same time, I wanted
- 1:01:15Speaker 8: to have the option of bringing other people along the
- 1:01:17Speaker 8: way and just kind of, I think it keeps things
- 1:01:20Speaker 8: interesting if we can. So there's only been a few
- 1:01:22Speaker 8: times when we can, because usually I can't find the victims.
- 1:01:25Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, we had.
- 1:01:27Speaker 8: Jesse, and then we had Eddie.
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: Eddie has pretty eyes.
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: So.
- 1:01:31Speaker 8: We're trying to.
- 1:01:32Speaker 15: You just need a sound clip of that so you
- 1:01:33Speaker 15: can loop it whenever someone says, Eddie.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Eddie has pretty eyes.
- 1:01:37Speaker 7: Sound clip that.
- 1:01:39Speaker 8: As long as you have her around, I don't think
- 1:01:41Speaker 8: you need a sound clip. So, yeah, I mean, and
- 1:01:44Speaker 8: I've actually thrown it out there to several other people,
- 1:01:46Speaker 8: and we're trying to work stuff in. And plus, I
- 1:01:49Speaker 8: just like having different people's opinions, which is why I
- 1:01:52Speaker 8: think we.
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: And sometimes we get tired of Roger's stuff.
- 1:01:54Speaker 8: Well, that too, which is... Which is why we made
- 1:01:57Speaker 8: up that excuse that he's, you know, having illness problems today.
- 1:02:00Speaker 8: We were just like... We're like, dude, you just stay home.
- 1:02:05Speaker 8: We've had about enough of you this week.
- 1:02:06Speaker 15: I took Roger's place. I kind of slept through most
- 1:02:08Speaker 15: of Blue Ball, but that's why I didn't talk very much.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: I think Lauren slept through part of it, too.
- 1:02:11Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 1:02:12Speaker 8: But I'd already seen it.
- 1:02:13Speaker 15: I watched it, like, two to three years ago, so.
- 1:02:16Speaker 10: Yeah, but you stayed awake during the podcast, which is
- 1:02:18Speaker 10: more than Roger can do.
- 1:02:19Speaker 15: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:02:20Speaker 8: And I got up at 4 o'clock this morning to
- 1:02:21Speaker 8: start doing the prepping and everything. This show is a
- 1:02:24Speaker 8: hell of a lot of work, let me tell you.
- 1:02:26Speaker 8: That was after being gone the whole weekend, so I'm
- 1:02:28Speaker 8: lucky to be awake now. So, yeah, it's a lot
- 1:02:32Speaker 8: to piece together. I have to bed. I got back
- 1:02:35Speaker 8: up in four, sadly. So, yeah, it's a lot to
- 1:02:39Speaker 8: piece together, but I think it's worth it. I think
- 1:02:41Speaker 8: we've put together a lot of really interesting stuff along
- 1:02:44Speaker 8: the way, and I like being able to.
- 1:02:48Speaker 8: The Misty is not that interesting. But the shows have
- 1:02:51Speaker 8: been pretty interesting, I think. So, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:02:56Speaker 8: Many people might disagree, but I think we've put together
- 1:02:58Speaker 8: some cool stuff along the way. So that's why I
- 1:03:01Speaker 8: keep fighting to keep it going. It's an uphill battle
- 1:03:04Speaker 8: every episode, but I think it's worth it. So that's
- 1:03:07Speaker 8: just me.
- 1:03:07Speaker 15: So here's the new excuse I'm telling my mom so
- 1:03:10Speaker 15: she doesn't try to find and listen to this. That it's...
- 1:03:16Speaker 15: You can only get it on iTunes, and it costs
- 1:03:18Speaker 15: like $ 60 for a yearly subscription.
- 1:03:20Speaker 8: That'll keep her away. Yeah. She ain't paying money for
- 1:03:23Speaker 8: this crap. I know.
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: Oh, Lord.
- 1:03:26Speaker 15: I just want to sometimes be like, bitch, stay out
- 1:03:29Speaker 15: of my personal life. What's wrong with that? I don't
- 1:03:32Speaker 15: want to be your friend on Facebook.
- 1:03:35Speaker 8: And I'm a radio star, so what do you need
- 1:03:37Speaker 8: to know about? So you've got Tiny Toons now.
- 1:03:41Speaker 15: Sweet. I'm going to have to find Tiny Toons.
- 1:03:43Speaker 10: I knew that one was out.
- 1:03:44Speaker 15: I didn't.
- 1:03:45Speaker 10: I found bootleg copies of the Muppet Babies.
- 1:03:48Speaker 9: There you go.
- 1:03:49Speaker 10: I'm not interested in it, but.
- 1:03:51Speaker 8: I know where to point you in the direction of them.
- 1:03:54Speaker 8: Not that I can know in such behavior, but that's
- 1:03:56Speaker 8: probably the only way you're going to find it because
- 1:03:57Speaker 8: I'm assuming music and video rights are going to be
- 1:04:01Speaker 8: impossible to ever get out.
- 1:04:02Speaker 10: I just got my Daria box set, the complete set,
- 1:04:05Speaker 10: and I read the insert and they changed all the
- 1:04:07Speaker 10: music in Daria.
- 1:04:09Speaker 8: Yep.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: I guess it's not really that disturbing. I love the show.
- 1:04:12Speaker 8: Other than Mystic Spiral. You don't fuck with Mystic Spiral.
- 1:04:15Speaker 10: I still have my Mystic Spiral fan club card in
- 1:04:17Speaker 10: my wallet.
- 1:04:17Speaker 15: I have that diary book thingy.
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: Oh, me too. I have that.
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: It's awesome.
- 1:04:22Speaker 7: Do we have any more feedback?
- 1:04:24Speaker 8: That is actually it. Thank you to Mikey. We wanted
- 1:04:27Speaker 8: to throw that out there for everybody. Keep the phone
- 1:04:31Speaker 8: calls and emails coming in.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: Don't be shy. Just let your feelings roll on by.
- 1:04:38Speaker 9: Don't be shy. We'd like to hear from you. So

- 1:05:00Speaker 9: the forum sections and look for Movie Meltdown.
- 1:05:04Speaker 15: Wait, did he say Marlena Palooza?
- 1:05:11Speaker 8: I believe he did, actually. Awesome. Did you want your
- 1:05:14Speaker 8: own Palooza? Because you've got it.
- 1:05:17Speaker 15: Can it be Marlena Rama instead of Palooza?
- 1:05:19Speaker 8: We'll have to clear it with Mike, yeah.
- 1:05:23Speaker 15: I find myself adding any time... Okay, for example, yesterday...
- 1:05:27Speaker 15: My friend and I were going to Kohl's, and I
- 1:05:30Speaker 15: had this bad habit of saying Arama 2010 or Athon
- 1:05:33Speaker 15: 2010 to everything that I do. I'm like, all right,
- 1:05:37Speaker 15: Shappathon 2010 or, like, Zaxby's Arama 2010. It's really annoying.
- 1:05:43Speaker 15: She's like, for the love of God, please stop doing that.
- 1:05:45Speaker 15: I'm going to punch you in your face.
- 1:05:48Speaker 8: None of this surprises me at all.
- 1:05:51Speaker 15: It's an embarrassing problem I have, but I'm glad I'm
- 1:05:53Speaker 15: over that mama-likey thing that I said a lot.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: The first step is admitting you have a problem.
- 1:05:58Speaker 8: Yeah, that's kind of disturbing, actually. Especially after today's movie.
- 1:06:02Speaker 15: Mama-likey.
- 1:06:04Speaker 8: Where's my bourbon at, bitch? Okay, kids, get out your
- 1:06:08Speaker 8: decoder pins. Dun-dun-dun-dun.
- 1:06:15Speaker 9: Nice.
- 1:06:15Speaker 8: It's hot in here.
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: It's making me old man laugh. God, it's hot in here.
- 1:06:28Speaker 8: Jesus Christ. It is time for the movie meltdown secret
- 1:06:31Speaker 8: circle reveal of the next two features.
- 1:06:32Speaker 15: Holy shit.
- 1:06:33Speaker 8: Kind of, sort of.
- 1:06:35Speaker 15: Possibly.
- 1:06:35Speaker 8: Actually, one and a whole lot of talking.
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: I could tell that tonight's message was really important.
- 1:06:40Speaker 8: Next week, as previously stated, we will be taking a
- 1:06:43Speaker 8: little departure from our regular routine. Thank God. And I
- 1:06:47Speaker 8: will actually, this week, I will be piecing together all
- 1:06:50Speaker 8: the interviews and whatnot from the Flyover Film Festival, so...
- 1:06:54Speaker 8: Next week, we will be getting the coverage from the
- 1:06:57Speaker 8: Flyover Film Festival, including interviews with several of the directors.
- 1:07:01Speaker 8: So that should be fun.
- 1:07:02Speaker 10: Bitchin'. Awesome.
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: Radical.
- 1:07:06Speaker 15: Tubular.
- 1:07:07Speaker 7: Gnarly.
- 1:07:09Speaker 15: I'm out of 80s.
- 1:07:12Speaker 10: I don't know.
- 1:07:13Speaker 11: Rad.
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: Did I already say rad?
- 1:07:14Speaker 15: Yeah, I think so.
- 1:07:15Speaker 9: Oh, wow.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: I said radical. I thought you said short, mid-cooler.
- 1:07:18Speaker 15: Okay.
- 1:07:20Speaker 8: And the following week, by popular demand from the rest
- 1:07:24Speaker 8: of the crew, basically, and even a few of the
- 1:07:26Speaker 8: listeners now, we'll be watching Pontypool.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: Good, because I bought it.
- 1:07:30Speaker 15: I watched it last night, but I'll watch it again.
- 1:07:33Speaker 8: You don't know anything yet. You're still in the dark
- 1:07:36Speaker 8: until two weeks from now.
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: It's awesome.
- 1:07:38Speaker 7: You forgot it all.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: It's not awesome.
- 1:07:39Speaker 9: I don't think so.
- 1:07:41Speaker 8: She don't know what she's talking about.
- 1:07:42Speaker 7: I don't think so.
- 1:07:44Speaker 15: You'll... I don't know.
- 1:07:45Speaker 7: I'll just.
- 1:07:46Speaker 8: I'll save it. You should save it.
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: I'll save it.
- 1:07:48Speaker 8: Save it. All right. I'm assuming that is it for us.
- 1:07:53Speaker 8: So we will go out with Jay's suggestion for the
- 1:07:57Speaker 8: closing song here. We will go out with Now It's
- 1:07:59Speaker 8: Dark from Anthrax. Is it wrong that I kind of,
- 1:08:03Speaker 8: I don't think that's going too far? Because many of
- 1:08:06Speaker 8: the time in any intimate situation, I just kind of
- 1:08:09Speaker 8: want to scream out, don't you fucking look at me!
- 1:08:12Speaker 8: Maybe that's just me, I don't know.
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe that is you.
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: Oops.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: Sorry.
- 1:08:16Speaker 8: I guess. Sharing a little too much information. All right,
- 1:08:19Speaker 8: that about does it. We will be back next week.
- 1:08:21Speaker 8: Same geek time, same geek feed. Thanks for listening.
- 1:08:24Speaker 10: Later, y'all.
