- 1:38Speaker 2: go to your order story first. Well, you know I've
- 1:40Speaker 2: met him.
- 1:41Speaker 5: By busting, you know, killing polls, almost going crazy about killing.
- 1:46Speaker 1: When I was a rookie the Hawks, we didn't have
- 1:49Speaker 1: summer league.
- 1:49Speaker 5: We had many camps, right, so we had a mini
- 1:51Speaker 5: camp and they had some veterans coming.
- 1:53Speaker 1: He was a veteran of the league.
- 1:54Speaker 5: He was you know, he was trying to work his
- 1:56Speaker 5: way on the team, will make the Hawks team a
- 1:58Speaker 5: roster or whatever it was with mini camp and it
- 2:00Speaker 5: was my rookie year. I never been to the NBA nothing,
- 2:03Speaker 5: and me and him got in a battle. So we
- 2:05Speaker 5: get to playing, me and him, going back and forth.
- 2:07Speaker 5: He giving me the blues. I'm doing my thing. At
- 2:11Speaker 5: the end of the day, I ended up getting the
- 2:12Speaker 5: best of him a.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Little bit, right, But in the middle of the game,
- 2:15Speaker 1: this nigga started coaching me.
- 2:18Speaker 3: This is what I knew.
- 2:18Speaker 1: He was gonna be my guy. He's gonna be a coach.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I'm going away. I'm doing my.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Thing, calling picking rolls. He's like a young fella when
- 2:26Speaker 2: you when you go on that pick and roll and
- 2:28Speaker 2: you goring it, don't.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Turn your head because I'm just gonna blow. I'm gonna
- 2:31Speaker 1: blow by you.
- 2:31Speaker 5: I'm looking at this nigga like, man, what like we're
- 2:35Speaker 5: playing against each other.
- 2:37Speaker 1: I'm like, who this nigga talking to him?
- 2:39Speaker 5: So I go to Red Dolph Morris right, I'm like,
- 2:41Speaker 5: who is this nigga? He was like, no, he can
- 2:43Speaker 5: play man, this nigga Nah. Then the rest of the day,
- 2:45Speaker 5: this nigga just kept talking to me. That's how I
- 2:48Speaker 5: met this nigga. He was killing though I ain't going
- 2:49Speaker 5: ahead on either. I had about fifty though. That's fat Okay.
- 2:55Speaker 3: You know you get drafted, you get take every shot.
- 2:58Speaker 1: You want to that's the fact.
- 2:59Speaker 3: You get to take every shot you want to take.
- 3:02Speaker 3: So I just like I remember because I was like,
- 3:05Speaker 3: you know, we all had to pull up in the
- 3:07Speaker 3: little van of the busted pickles of a hotel here.
- 3:10Speaker 3: It's like maybe I think I'm like maybe five. I'm
- 3:13Speaker 3: going through my sixth year. And he pulled up and
- 3:16Speaker 3: he got he brought himself a brand new dies challenging.
- 3:20Speaker 3: He called it a dope boy card. My man, look
- 3:27Speaker 3: at this little I said. I used to always try
- 3:30Speaker 3: to find something if I had to go against somebody,
- 3:33Speaker 3: like if I didn't know him, I had to find
- 3:35Speaker 3: something I didn't like about him for me to like,
- 3:38Speaker 3: just like what I don't like about him, which is
- 3:41Speaker 3: gonna make me like when we step on that corner
- 3:43Speaker 3: turn up. So I just like off me. I was like, oh,
- 3:47Speaker 3: his swagger is like to like. I was just like,
- 3:52Speaker 3: it's swag. Like he's walking down. You know, he had
- 3:54Speaker 3: little little speakers in the trunk, like that's cute. You
- 3:57Speaker 3: know we've been doing that.
- 3:59Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 4:00Speaker 3: You know he doing this and doing that. He walked
- 4:02Speaker 3: out he acting like he don't acknowledge like the old heads,
- 4:06Speaker 3: you know, and we have we had some hitters in
- 4:09Speaker 3: there though, like the guys who like Literfi, who was
- 4:12Speaker 3: like probably on the edge, like I was just like
- 4:15Speaker 3: six years in like I said, but we had guys
- 4:17Speaker 3: that was at like ten twelve years that still trying
- 4:19Speaker 3: to fight, still could play. But everybody know when the lead,
- 4:22Speaker 3: the older you get, the more you kind of get weeded.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Out, right.
- 4:26Speaker 3: So once I started seeing that, I just started playing
- 4:29Speaker 3: the game. I was like, all right, cool, Like I know,
- 4:33Speaker 3: I probably ain't gonna make the min you know, make
- 4:35Speaker 3: the Atlanta Hawks team. You know, they drafted tea point guards,
- 4:39Speaker 3: they had Mike Bbie Steele. Who else was on You
- 4:41Speaker 3: had nothing, Jamal, you know what I'm saying. So it's
- 4:44Speaker 3: just like, okay, it's a mini cap. Let me just
- 4:47Speaker 3: do what I gotta do whatever, get up out of here.
- 4:51Speaker 3: So once I seen Woody, he was like mad him
- 4:55Speaker 3: take every kind of shot. I'm like like, damn, Like
- 5:00Speaker 3: if he like he wanted to like turn backwards from
- 5:04Speaker 3: the three and throw it like this, it wasn't gonna
- 5:05Speaker 3: say nothing. I'm like, oh, they really gonna try to
- 5:08Speaker 3: build this team around this young you know, young boy.
- 5:10Speaker 3: So I'm like, all right, let me figure it out.
- 5:14Speaker 3: And my dad always taught me change lives, you know,
- 5:18Speaker 3: paying forward, and I was like, he fast, stupid athlete.
- 5:24Speaker 3: I got a crazy right there, like Craig, Like he
- 5:26Speaker 3: kept hitting me with this one simple move. I could
- 5:29Speaker 3: never stop. Always bid on the crossover and it was
- 5:31Speaker 3: a step back to the three jumper too. But his
- 5:35Speaker 3: pick and roll game was trash. He didn't know the game.
- 5:40Speaker 3: He was a one on one player. So in the
- 5:43Speaker 3: picking roll, I just started we icing it. He turning
- 5:45Speaker 3: the ball over, and I was like, yeah, I'm just
- 5:47Speaker 3: gonna start talking. Turned them up because I was like,
- 5:51Speaker 3: I'm basketball to me is eight percent mental to physical.
- 5:54Speaker 3: So I was trying to rookie ain't never been in
- 5:56Speaker 3: no situations. I'm getting that, like, yo, we icing him.
- 5:59Speaker 3: He ain't got it. No, man pulled over, he turned
- 6:01Speaker 3: them he turned it over, lefting right now, damn. And
- 6:04Speaker 3: so then I was like I felt kind of bad
- 6:06Speaker 3: because I'm getting frustrated.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Fifty no no, no, no, no no no.
- 6:11Speaker 3: You had fifty off, like twenty five free they started
- 6:14Speaker 3: cing now he took about twenty five free thoughts and
- 6:22Speaker 3: then the other twenty five was legit. The other was legit.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I would tell you what start and they had y'all
- 6:28Speaker 2: had that big slow dude on y'all.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I was in no win situation, a big man
- 6:34Speaker 3: situation by him.
- 6:36Speaker 5: I figured it out. I was like, oh the icy,
- 6:38Speaker 5: I'm just keep the ball in the middle of the floor.
- 6:40Speaker 3: You know, yeah, I can't. I But what I noticed was,
- 6:44Speaker 3: I was like for him to have like longevity, right,
- 6:48Speaker 3: and you could see it, like you can see like
- 6:51Speaker 3: Mike Bibi was on his way out older, you know
- 6:53Speaker 3: what I'm saying. He was, And I'm like, it would
- 6:56Speaker 3: be selfish of me not to like it for help
- 7:01Speaker 3: help somebody else along the way, because that's what Nick
- 7:03Speaker 3: Naxley did for me, That's what I did for me.
- 7:06Speaker 3: That's what Bubba Chuck did for me. West Side Tennis Club,
- 7:10Speaker 3: Houston text everybody used to come to Houston to train
- 7:13Speaker 3: in the summertime. So as a high schooler, it was
- 7:16Speaker 3: who I'm playing again, and they did the same thing
- 7:18Speaker 3: to me, and I just was like, I got to
- 7:21Speaker 3: pay it forward. So I did it with Tyas Jones,
- 7:24Speaker 3: I did it with t I try to do it
- 7:26Speaker 3: with Chris Dunn, you know what I'm saying. So it's
- 7:29Speaker 3: just like for me, I was like, I know, I
- 7:34Speaker 3: know I can go to bed at night and lay
- 7:36Speaker 3: my head down the pillow and be like, Yo, did
- 7:37Speaker 3: I get did I was? Was I better today? Did
- 7:40Speaker 3: I get somebody else better as well? And that was
- 7:43Speaker 3: and that was just that was just my way of like,
- 7:45Speaker 3: because I want no superstar in the league, you know
- 7:48Speaker 3: what I mean. But my whole thing was like I
- 7:49Speaker 3: wanted to play ten years in so I got to
- 7:51Speaker 3: be that locker room guy. I gotta be that guy
- 7:53Speaker 3: that's always ready. So when the opportunity presented itself, I
- 7:57Speaker 3: was ready and that's I took full advantage of it
- 8:00Speaker 3: here playing for Chicago Bulls. Those two and a half
- 8:03Speaker 3: years I was here was probably the best years I
- 8:05Speaker 3: had besides the Pistons year. I came in and I
- 8:10Speaker 3: just stay ready.
- 8:11Speaker 2: We got to talk about let's start to the origins
- 8:13Speaker 2: of it. You gave us an interest before recording. You
- 8:15Speaker 2: never play AU basketball.
- 8:17Speaker 3: You already played one tournament and AU is the eight
- 8:24Speaker 3: was it uh out in Vegas, Adidas big time and
- 8:29Speaker 3: I didn't play. I played for this team called the
- 8:33Speaker 3: Houston Superstars John Yury, they had TJ. Ford, Daniel ewing Room.
- 8:41Speaker 3: But I played tennis in the summer. So I was
- 8:45Speaker 3: top fifte in the country in tennis. Every every weekend
- 8:49Speaker 3: I was playing in the tennis tournament. Everybody else was
- 8:52Speaker 3: playing basketball. But this year I was just like, all right.
- 8:56Speaker 3: I told my dad. I was like, man, I want
- 8:58Speaker 3: to play. Yeah, I do both. He didn't want me
- 9:01Speaker 3: to quit tennis. My dad didn't really want me playing basketball.
- 9:04Speaker 3: He wanted me to play tennis, like, yo, you little motherfucker,
- 9:07Speaker 3: you're only five. It's gonna be so hard for you
- 9:09Speaker 3: to make it. And I was just like, yeah, but
- 9:13Speaker 3: this is what I love. So I quit tennis one
- 9:16Speaker 3: day Like this though, I go back, Man, you know
- 9:22Speaker 3: what's crazy, play tennis. That's what like I said, And
- 9:27Speaker 3: that's who trained my pops. So my people don't realize
- 9:30Speaker 3: my pops played professional tennis. And yeah, and he won
- 9:34Speaker 3: the n C Double A tournament and the n C
- 9:36Speaker 3: doubles and he won the singles. He a national championship
- 9:40Speaker 3: in tennis and while he was at University of Maryland,
- 9:42Speaker 3: and the one pick. So for me, my dad loves tennis.
- 9:47Speaker 3: So when I picked up tennis. It was for because
- 9:49Speaker 3: I was living in Philadelphia at the time. I was
- 9:52Speaker 3: a kid that never wanted to be in the house,
- 9:54Speaker 3: like if they was outside playing street hockey. I learned
- 9:57Speaker 3: how to ride skates and play hockey, played the cross.
- 10:00Speaker 3: I never wanted to be in the house. I just
- 10:03Speaker 3: wanted to be active. So when my dad found out
- 10:06Speaker 3: I was gonna go out for the tennis team, bro,
- 10:09Speaker 3: he turned into a monster, like the way that kids
- 10:13Speaker 3: trained now for basketball. We was like that for tennis,
- 10:17Speaker 3: like Serena, Daddy worse, damn Pops. Yeah, you know what
- 10:22Speaker 3: I'm saying, Like, imagine playing tennis with a forty pound
- 10:24Speaker 3: weight Benstone, damn and hell. And he knew I loved basball.
- 10:29Speaker 3: So when he was like, it's all going transition, but
- 10:31Speaker 3: he knew it's all gonna make sense. Trust the process.
- 10:34Speaker 3: That's all he's to say. So now, lateral movement angles.
- 10:37Speaker 3: All basketball is geometry. All Kyrie do is just geometry,
- 10:41Speaker 3: just angles on the glass. We're doing that in tennis.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Tops me in slice. If you're hit, if I if
- 10:48Speaker 3: I overhead and he goes to the right, just know
- 10:50Speaker 3: the whole left hand side of the court gonna be over. Now,
- 10:52Speaker 3: I got my bad hand going cross court, I got
- 10:54Speaker 3: my forehand run around.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Nigga.
- 10:55Speaker 3: We play tennis, but I played on the video game.
- 10:59Speaker 3: You know, it all translates, it translated, it all translates
- 11:07Speaker 3: over the basketball though. It all translates over the basketball.
- 11:11Speaker 3: So then the game of the basketball game starts slowing
- 11:14Speaker 3: down to me. And I was like, oh, you know what,
- 11:18Speaker 3: if I'm having a bag a bad match in tennis,
- 11:21Speaker 3: now I got tap into my psychic I gotta wheel
- 11:24Speaker 3: my way into like whatever I got going on tennis,
- 11:27Speaker 3: I gotta because I don't have four other players to
- 11:29Speaker 3: depend on to get me out this home. But now
- 11:32Speaker 3: in basketball, if I'm having a bad game, I can
- 11:35Speaker 3: lean on somebody. So Tennant tell me with my mental
- 11:37Speaker 3: game to where I could wield my way to be like,
- 11:40Speaker 3: let's check the boxes. I'm missing a couple of shots.
- 11:43Speaker 3: It's my elbow tucked in. I got a pincake goose neck, like,
- 11:46Speaker 3: I just start checking the boxes and then I would creak.
- 11:48Speaker 3: I would correct whatever mistakes I'm making.
- 11:51Speaker 5: Crazy, I'm gonna say that because even when you helped
- 11:54Speaker 5: me my rookie year, but then when I see you
- 11:56Speaker 5: throughout the league, then when I got with you in Minnesota,
- 11:58Speaker 5: like I know I'm skipping ahead. We want to talk
- 12:01Speaker 5: about your journey. But when I got to Minnesota, you
- 12:03Speaker 5: know I was I was turned like, and you like,
- 12:06Speaker 5: yo's get some extra shots. I'm like, nigga, no, no,
- 12:11Speaker 5: I didn't come here for extra shots. I can't here
- 12:13Speaker 5: to pass about the Jimmy and Wiggy Cat.
- 12:15Speaker 1: But you like, come on by.
- 12:17Speaker 5: You got locked in on what we're gonna be good
- 12:18Speaker 5: is if you do this. And then that first year
- 12:20Speaker 5: I was doing that ship with you and we had
- 12:22Speaker 5: a good season. Jimmy got hurt, but we was having
- 12:25Speaker 5: a successful season. And then you was like you're too
- 12:27Speaker 5: you gotta keep going and like you would push me
- 12:30Speaker 5: in the de I seen you doing it with de Rose,
- 12:32Speaker 5: and like your mental always just been different. I'm I'm like,
- 12:35Speaker 5: I'm gonna show love to that because obviously Tennison helped
- 12:39Speaker 5: you a lot. So maybe I should start putting some
- 12:41Speaker 5: people in tennis on my team.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Not just for me, it's more like for me, it's like.
- 12:46Speaker 1: We needs.
- 12:49Speaker 3: No for me. I think I think I saw something
- 12:51Speaker 3: in you that you didn't really see yourself. I think
- 12:53Speaker 3: you was already kind of planning your exit and in Minnesota,
- 12:58Speaker 3: I'm like, bro, you got about food five years left.
- 13:01Speaker 1: And I would be like nah.
- 13:02Speaker 3: I was like, don't let these people discourage you and
- 13:06Speaker 3: have you have you be in a role that ain't
- 13:08Speaker 3: really you, Like, yeah, you gotta play the game. But
- 13:10Speaker 3: I said, Yo, this ship don't move without you. You
- 13:12Speaker 3: are starting PG the point guard control everything the FU
- 13:16Speaker 3: And he I'm like, yo, you don't realize you can
- 13:18Speaker 3: get another big deal, I said. He to say that,
- 13:22Speaker 3: I said, bro, you can sign another eighty ball. His
- 13:25Speaker 3: goofy self used to be like, man, I'm cool. I
- 13:28Speaker 3: got I'm straight, and I'm like, yep, I'm like, what's
- 13:33Speaker 3: wrong with you? They giving money out too comfortable.
- 13:41Speaker 5: But when I when we started, like when it started happening,
- 13:44Speaker 5: and I started caring, like we're doing these workouts.
- 13:47Speaker 1: I'm gonna come off the bench, remember the bench. I'm
- 13:49Speaker 1: gonna get another bagby the six man I was hooping.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Then I get hurt. I said, what the fuck? He
- 13:55Speaker 1: was like, see when you play with the game, the.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Basketball guy, I'm dig on that.
- 14:00Speaker 3: I'm that I never disrespected the game.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Yeah, and I was disrespecting it.
- 14:07Speaker 5: And then when I tried to get serious, and he like, yeah,
- 14:09Speaker 5: we locked in.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I get hurt. It's like, damn, but.
- 14:12Speaker 3: We got back right. We got back right. But I
- 14:15Speaker 3: was a see my pops raised me and my whole
- 14:18Speaker 3: me and my brother and my sister that he raised
- 14:20Speaker 3: us on principals. Yeah, and he was like, you never
- 14:24Speaker 3: want to disrespect the game host. So like when my
- 14:27Speaker 3: teammates in high school, they all wanted to wear hot socks.
- 14:30Speaker 3: I never wore high socks before. I always wore like
- 14:32Speaker 3: either ankle sace or little crew. So I was like,
- 14:35Speaker 3: I'm gonna wear hot socks because the whole team wearing it.
- 14:37Speaker 3: I want to be a team player. Yeah, what did mama?
- 14:41Speaker 3: He crazy, like he crazed, like, so we warming up.
- 14:45Speaker 3: You see, I got high socks on. He walked in
- 14:47Speaker 3: the middle of the court. I was like, what you doing,
- 14:50Speaker 3: Go put your socks on. Damn, I'm a junior in
- 14:54Speaker 3: high school. I'm like a junior in high school.
- 14:57Speaker 1: And nobody gonna say the pops not damn.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Nobody said, And I was like all right, but he
- 15:02Speaker 3: was like, don't be no followed. But he was also
- 15:07Speaker 3: saying that's that's that's not you. So now mentally you're
- 15:11Speaker 3: not even ready to play because you're so worried about
- 15:13Speaker 3: how you look and making sure you fit in with
- 15:15Speaker 3: everybody else that you ain't even ready to go seek
- 15:18Speaker 3: and destroy. That was his whole thing. This whole thing
- 15:20Speaker 3: was like my print. I think it was protect. His
- 15:24Speaker 3: thing was protect my last name every game. You used
- 15:27Speaker 3: to tell me that.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's a hell of a lineage, though, tell me.
- 15:32Speaker 3: That because I didn't play au like I said, so,
- 15:34Speaker 3: I'll go back. So when I played high school back,
- 15:36Speaker 3: I only played basketball for four and a half months.
- 15:39Speaker 4: When did you get cold?
- 15:41Speaker 3: I always been cold? I'm telling you. You know you
- 15:52Speaker 3: was doing good. No, I've always been called listen.
- 15:55Speaker 6: I understand that, bro, I'm understand. When did you be like, damn,
- 15:59Speaker 6: I can do this? You feel me?
- 16:01Speaker 3: You was Arthur to day. I came out my mom.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Then that's what I knew I was called. I came
- 16:06Speaker 3: out like this, that's my daddy. I came out with
- 16:08Speaker 3: my hand form like this. They got pictures what you
- 16:11Speaker 3: call when you make that dog sneeze.
- 16:16Speaker 1: My neighborhood? You said, make that dog.
- 16:21Speaker 3: You know you know that made that You ever heard
- 16:23Speaker 3: of dogs sneeze before? No? So every time I shoot,
- 16:28Speaker 3: that's the next I'm a country boy.
- 16:31Speaker 6: I understand that. I was saying, when when did you
- 16:33Speaker 6: have to feel like? Damn, I can do this for real, like.
- 16:36Speaker 3: My whole life. I'm telling you.
- 16:39Speaker 1: What you gotta tell.
- 16:39Speaker 2: You gotta say how you grew up because he grew
- 16:42Speaker 2: up differently than.
- 16:45Speaker 3: You. Don't really, I let the whole stadium scoring. I
- 16:48Speaker 3: got what year every year I played?
- 16:52Speaker 1: He went to He went to bell there like real life.
- 16:55Speaker 3: I was a fresh principal there before real smith one
- 16:58Speaker 3: of them bullshit. School's a public school. See. People always
- 17:01Speaker 3: thought I grew up in a private school. My pops
- 17:03Speaker 3: won't for that. We published I'm a public school. Will
- 17:09Speaker 3: So will So. Bel Air is like, yeah, the bel
- 17:13Speaker 3: Air is like the Baylor you would think of. I
- 17:15Speaker 3: grew up nurse. I grew up next to the iron people,
- 17:18Speaker 3: next to the Chevron people, ex people.
- 17:22Speaker 4: We was good.
- 17:23Speaker 3: What year did you play with America? All through high school?
- 17:27Speaker 3: We graduated all one together. Okay, he zoned to my school.
- 17:31Speaker 3: I had Lawrence Roberts.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I don't know if you remember.
- 17:34Speaker 3: We end up going to Baylor Gain We always zoned
- 17:36Speaker 3: to the same school. See my school, My school is
- 17:39Speaker 3: a public school. But like bel Air, people think I'm
- 17:42Speaker 3: from the suburbs, I'm from the center of the city.
- 17:45Speaker 3: But we are own city inside of the inside of Houston.
- 17:49Speaker 3: But when you go over here, every school we played
- 17:52Speaker 3: was in the hood. Madison with Vince Young went, that's
- 17:54Speaker 3: herm Clark. We had Sterling, Worthing, little Flip with the
- 17:58Speaker 3: Worth and that sunny side shot. All our schools was
- 18:01Speaker 3: in our district was all hood schools. We only had
- 18:03Speaker 3: one other school that's kind of like because that was
- 18:05Speaker 3: La High School. Who went there, Lawrence Robertson, transferring our
- 18:09Speaker 3: freshman year and he went to our rival school. But
- 18:11Speaker 3: they had a guy out there named Corey Smith who
- 18:14Speaker 3: end up playing at Vanderbilt in the SEC. He was
- 18:16Speaker 3: nice too, so we had a lot of hoopers.
- 18:18Speaker 4: How was that playing with the mcado? But was he
- 18:21Speaker 4: always good?
- 18:23Speaker 3: He was trash? He was he was. He was trashed
- 18:27Speaker 3: like the greatest big ever. He was trash. Our fresh
- 18:31Speaker 3: he won't trash, but he couldn't. He was uncoordinated, but
- 18:35Speaker 3: he wanted to be a doctor. He's smart. He graduated
- 18:39Speaker 3: our junior year in high school, he already graduated, so
- 18:41Speaker 3: our senior year he was taking courses for college already,
- 18:45Speaker 3: so make it was smart. He he didn't think about
- 18:47Speaker 3: even playing in the NBA. He didn't think that. He
- 18:50Speaker 3: was like, I'm just gonna use basketball and get into
- 18:52Speaker 3: medical school. Like get into that's crazy. That so my
- 18:56Speaker 3: dad one day, because I always did player development. My
- 18:59Speaker 3: dad trained my whole life.
- 19:01Speaker 4: He was.
- 19:01Speaker 3: He was in my life though. You know, it don't
- 19:03Speaker 3: matter if he had a job in Denver. I used
- 19:05Speaker 3: to be all fly for the weekends to Denver, and
- 19:09Speaker 3: I'm practicing with the team. Are I'm practicing with n
- 19:12Speaker 3: like I'm working out? So A Mecca ended up going
- 19:15Speaker 3: from being like six four in freshman year to six
- 19:20Speaker 3: seven our sophomore year. Then he kept going my dad
- 19:23Speaker 3: one day, come home. He was like, a Mecica, you'
- 19:25Speaker 3: a pro. He was like, you got a chance to
- 19:28Speaker 3: make eighty million. He said, you got a chance to
- 19:32Speaker 3: make eighty million and a Mecicas oh, and then even
- 19:36Speaker 3: a Mecca Dad didn't see. He was like, no, he
- 19:37Speaker 3: need to focus on his books. He gonna be an
- 19:40Speaker 3: engineer adopted, you know, he not. You know, so that's
- 19:42Speaker 3: what they think.
- 19:44Speaker 4: Man.
- 19:44Speaker 3: We get to our junior year, he started playing with
- 19:46Speaker 3: the Houston Hoops having success summertime. Every day we in
- 19:50Speaker 3: the gym six am. I used to go pick him
- 19:52Speaker 3: up from from his place. Pops had us. It was
- 19:55Speaker 3: the workouts was crazy because it'll be me a Mecca.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Lawrence Daniel Ewing, T J Ford, Carlos Hurt, Phiel Williams,
- 20:07Speaker 3: guys you don't know of like that, and and it
- 20:11Speaker 3: was like my Papa's like, yeah, they better than you.
- 20:14Speaker 3: And I used to be like.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Better than you.
- 20:17Speaker 3: They were, but at the time my mental game was
- 20:23Speaker 3: like I'm the best, I'm the best thing on the court,
- 20:25Speaker 3: but aren't. But I didn't realize what my pops is doing.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Iron Shoppers aren't. So we was all getting each other better.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Were at the same time, we was all kind of
- 20:36Speaker 3: dissating each and each one of our games, so we
- 20:39Speaker 3: was gonna all play against other at one point.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Yeah, that's an interesting you say with that, just like
- 20:44Speaker 2: you're talking about both your obviously coach and you see
- 20:46Speaker 2: it now like a lot of kids now duck that competition.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Back then, y'all had their brass. How do you kind
- 20:51Speaker 1: of translate that now for kids?
- 20:52Speaker 2: It's just like you at some point you have to
- 20:54Speaker 2: show up and play against the top man.
- 20:57Speaker 3: You know what, kids scared a competition. Now kids are
- 21:01Speaker 3: so worried about if they're gonna get posted on social media.
- 21:05Speaker 3: Kids are scared of being embarrassed. I grew up to
- 21:09Speaker 3: where if you ain't been dunked on, crossed over, or embarrassed,
- 21:13Speaker 3: you ain't playing at a high level.
- 21:16Speaker 4: That's real.
- 21:17Speaker 3: So all my best friends aren't from the neighborhood I'm from.
- 21:21Speaker 3: All my best friends are from the other side of
- 21:23Speaker 3: the tracks. Yeah, that's where the best ball is at.
- 21:27Speaker 3: So when I used to leave high school, I'm in Sunnyside,
- 21:30Speaker 3: I'm in third ward, I'm in fifth word. That's what
- 21:32Speaker 3: the ball is. It didn't matter. I wasn't worried about
- 21:35Speaker 3: going over there. I won't worried about It's like, it's basketball,
- 21:37Speaker 3: it's a universal language. Now. I knew how to conduct
- 21:40Speaker 3: myself when I was over there. So where I can
- 21:44Speaker 3: you know, I can come back, you know, get back
- 21:46Speaker 3: to the crib. But at the end of the day,
- 21:48Speaker 3: like I wasn't gonna get better playing against my neighbors.
- 21:52Speaker 3: Are are staying in my neighborhood while I'm playing against
- 21:55Speaker 3: Billy and Tommy and John. I had to go and
- 21:58Speaker 3: play against against Tyree Wait Caref or somebody like that
- 22:03Speaker 3: at thet But I'm just using like at that game.
- 22:10Speaker 3: But I'm just saying, no, no, I'm just using that
- 22:14Speaker 3: name as an example. I'm saying I had to go
- 22:16Speaker 3: play against like a Kareem or or somebody like that,
- 22:20Speaker 3: because no, no, not right kre like that that. But
- 22:24Speaker 3: I'm just saying I had to go. I had to
- 22:25Speaker 3: go what the kids called trenches. Now, I had to
- 22:29Speaker 3: go get that so I can get better at basketball.
- 22:33Speaker 3: I don't know it just you know me.
- 22:36Speaker 7: I'm just gonna say, yeah, you know me, I'm gonna
- 22:46Speaker 7: speak that's the name that popped up in my head.
- 22:48Speaker 3: I just said, But that's why I got better at
- 22:53Speaker 3: I don't know. That's like, I'm not even I wasn't
- 22:56Speaker 3: even thinking about the football player what I'm saying that.
- 22:58Speaker 3: I was just saying the name under saying the name.
- 23:01Speaker 3: But that's why I got better at and am you
- 23:04Speaker 3: know you and Daniel the same class though we all
- 23:08Speaker 3: one class. He probably had the best class coming out
- 23:10Speaker 3: of the United States, the one. It's oh, I'm saying
- 23:16Speaker 3: that year Texas as a state seven had the coldge class.
- 23:21Speaker 3: My little Oh yeah, yeah, little bro McDonald's American. Yeah yeah,
- 23:27Speaker 3: we can talking. You know, that's the first thing. That's
- 23:30Speaker 3: the first thing he goes, you know, your little better
- 23:32Speaker 3: should I make McDonald's I said, how look what he
- 23:35Speaker 3: was doing, Look what he was doing.
- 23:38Speaker 6: But he he had a lake you know, pause coming
- 23:41Speaker 6: out party, So I mean, you know he did.
- 23:46Speaker 1: He's doing great things he's doing.
- 23:47Speaker 3: And you know what, he the only Lucas that can
- 23:50Speaker 3: brag about being the McDonald's American possible to McDonald's American.
- 23:54Speaker 1: I wasn't he the only one that.
- 23:57Speaker 3: He's doing this thing. I'm proud of he's doing. He's
- 23:59Speaker 3: doing his thing.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Talk about opening the show up. You know what?

- 26:08Speaker 3: And I remember I verbally committed to Coach Watkins at
- 26:14Speaker 3: Texas and Him. I said but I don't want to
- 26:15Speaker 3: sign early because I want to make sure my guys
- 26:19Speaker 3: that I came in as a freshman. They all get
- 26:21Speaker 3: scholarships as well. But me and a meccha ogle for
- 26:24Speaker 3: signed early. Ain't no more schools gonna come to our game.
- 26:28Speaker 3: So my pops, my pop set us down. So we
- 26:30Speaker 3: talk of Mecca because he was supposed to go to
- 26:32Speaker 3: Georgia Tech originally.
- 26:34Speaker 1: I could see that though.
- 26:35Speaker 3: So he was supposed to go to Georgia Tech originally.
- 26:37Speaker 3: So every time I see coach he out of LA
- 26:40Speaker 3: because you know he's part of the Ontario Clippers. He
- 26:43Speaker 3: get mad at me because I had a mecha ogle
- 26:45Speaker 3: for it to you and your daddy taught him not
- 26:47Speaker 3: to sign out. So that's when Yukon came in. But
- 26:50Speaker 3: my dad was like, bro, y'all came in like everybody
- 26:53Speaker 3: got to eat. Everybody need to So he was like,
- 26:56Speaker 3: y'all don't sign early. Y'all gonna have all the colleges
- 26:59Speaker 3: still come in. And after that, I took a visit
- 27:01Speaker 3: to fam you because if I wouldn't wanted to fam you, now,
- 27:05Speaker 3: if I took a visit fan, that was gonna get
- 27:07Speaker 3: one of my teammates a scholarship just for me coming
- 27:09Speaker 3: on campus, and by far, and by far, that was
- 27:12Speaker 3: the best visit I ever took it in my life.
- 27:13Speaker 3: A right to state right across the street.
- 27:20Speaker 1: You know.
- 27:20Speaker 3: But my pops is all about you bring somebody along,
- 27:24Speaker 3: which you never and that's just how we grew up
- 27:25Speaker 3: as a family. So we talked to Mecca, So I
- 27:28Speaker 3: really want to go to A and M because I
- 27:30Speaker 3: wanted to play for a black coach. Uh And I
- 27:33Speaker 3: gave him my word and he was, okay, we got you.
- 27:35Speaker 3: You know, we're gonna wait on you. Seven days later
- 27:38Speaker 3: they signed a point going at the jew Coop.
- 27:41Speaker 1: So so then now going to Texas A and.
- 27:44Speaker 3: I'm back at square one. So I had Baylor, I
- 27:47Speaker 3: had Rutgers, I had everybody really recruited me for basketball,
- 27:52Speaker 3: but I had more offers in tennis.
- 27:55Speaker 4: Okay.
- 27:57Speaker 3: So and everybody who was recruiting me wanted to rid
- 27:59Speaker 3: show me because I didn't left waste. I don't. I
- 28:01Speaker 3: was only one hundred and forty pounds my senior year,
- 28:04Speaker 3: damn right. But I was just like we always. All
- 28:09Speaker 3: we did was push up, dips and pull ups. We
- 28:11Speaker 3: didn't touch the weights because My dad was like, you
- 28:13Speaker 3: touched the waist's gonna mess with your shot. Yeah, argue
- 28:17Speaker 3: with at eighteen, it's crazy. Yeah.
- 28:21Speaker 6: Yeah, I was five d one athlete, but you came back.
- 28:24Speaker 6: They put you on that shot.
- 28:26Speaker 3: You came Yeah. When I went to college, I was
- 28:29Speaker 3: only I was like one fifty, and then they made
- 28:32Speaker 3: me like you had to eat a peanut butter and
- 28:33Speaker 3: jelly soundwich like every four hours, and I would gain
- 28:37Speaker 3: like three pounds and then I'll run it off and
- 28:41Speaker 3: I'm right back. And I just was like, and I
- 28:43Speaker 3: had to run anyway because they tried to make me
- 28:46Speaker 3: left waist and cause and I was fighting against not
- 28:48Speaker 3: lifting waist in college, so that the knockoff was well,
- 28:52Speaker 3: you're gonna have to run for punishment because you don't
- 28:54Speaker 3: want left wists. I said me, I'm just I'm my
- 28:57Speaker 3: mental game. I'm like, I'm just gonna be I can
- 29:00Speaker 3: run everybody. Yeah there, And I still got my burner
- 29:03Speaker 3: because I U said, if I live waits and I
- 29:05Speaker 3: missed my first three shots, I will always blame the
- 29:07Speaker 3: waits because I'm stiff. I'm sore now, shooting like a
- 29:11Speaker 3: running back in the football. See the football players played
- 29:14Speaker 3: the rereck Center game. Yeah, you know it looked like yeah,
- 29:18Speaker 3: you know what I mean.
- 29:19Speaker 2: But for me, I had to be No, I was nothing.
- 29:22Speaker 2: I was one fifty. I came back one eighty five.
- 29:26Speaker 2: That could have been some niggas.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Was like it was in three months. Fact, she game
- 29:31Speaker 1: thirty something pounds.
- 29:32Speaker 4: It was like a wrong man coming back to the city.
- 29:34Speaker 8: No man.
- 29:36Speaker 3: Baylor was like, I said, the worst because it was
- 29:38Speaker 3: too close to home.
- 29:40Speaker 1: And I had You went back home a lot every day. Damn.
- 29:43Speaker 3: I used to take that two hour drive like it
- 29:45Speaker 3: was like forty five minutes away. Damn you had a
- 29:50Speaker 3: lady or something. No, I just I was home. I
- 29:54Speaker 3: had the whole house with myself and my pop. Took
- 29:55Speaker 3: the coaching job in Cleveland. Yeah, it was that's like
- 30:03Speaker 3: you're not having fun somewhere. When you're not having fun somewhere,
- 30:08Speaker 3: and me and the coach started end up having problems
- 30:10Speaker 3: and issues Coach Dave Bliss. Uh, you know, I was
- 30:14Speaker 3: just trying to find comfort, trying to be around love
- 30:19Speaker 3: really and all my boys back home, cousins, best friends
- 30:24Speaker 3: that I grew up was all back in Houston, and
- 30:27Speaker 3: I would rather be there than that. Baylor, like miserable.
- 30:31Speaker 3: I mean, Waco, Texas nothing to do the first of all.
- 30:34Speaker 1: And I watched it.
- 30:35Speaker 5: I watched your show based out of Waco, Texas may
- 30:38Speaker 5: be selling homes, and yeah.
- 30:44Speaker 3: I think they split up. Actually think they Baylor Longs.
- 30:47Speaker 3: I think.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Got back together. I don't know why he knows that.
- 30:51Speaker 3: But yeah, because now they do some good work. But
- 30:57Speaker 3: I just hated. I just hated. Like my freshman year
- 31:00Speaker 3: was cool. I let I let my team scoring and
- 31:03Speaker 3: assist as a first man, big twelve. You know, TJ
- 31:08Speaker 3: obviously did his thing. Sure, So it was just like
- 31:12Speaker 3: and then my sophomore year, it just got tricky. It
- 31:14Speaker 3: got weird all sudden. Just it's like everything shift. It's
- 31:19Speaker 3: like I come back as a starter, still leading the
- 31:22Speaker 3: team and scoring assists, were playing, and then I think
- 31:25Speaker 3: we got like teen games left for the season. All
- 31:28Speaker 3: of a sudden, coaches like just own me all day
- 31:30Speaker 3: in practice, on me all day in practice. And we
- 31:32Speaker 3: had a we had a point guard I back up.
- 31:35Speaker 3: His name was Matt Sainman, and I like, in practice
- 31:40Speaker 3: if it was born to me, Like I told Jeff,
- 31:42Speaker 3: I had to find something bad about something. So I
- 31:45Speaker 3: just started talking trash. The whole practice. You can't hold
- 31:48Speaker 3: me like hold that like And that's when Jeanne came out.
- 31:51Speaker 3: So every time I shot, like y'all used to do
- 31:53Speaker 3: like that, and so coach coach pulled me, coaches like
- 31:58Speaker 3: cursing me out. He's talking abou you think you so
- 32:01Speaker 3: and so wooy woo. It was like you grew up
- 32:03Speaker 3: with a silver spoon in your mouth. I was like,
- 32:07Speaker 3: what silver spoon? I said, man, that my spoon is platinum.
- 32:17Speaker 3: Kick me out of practice, Kick me out of practice.
- 32:20Speaker 3: He come in the locker room. We get into this
- 32:21Speaker 3: full blown argument and I don't play for the next
- 32:25Speaker 3: eight games. I want from starting not playing. They playing,
- 32:28Speaker 3: I walk on they playing. Everybody here that people like
- 32:31Speaker 3: asking questions like why this, why that, and nobody could
- 32:35Speaker 3: get the answer.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:37Speaker 3: So then now I'm like, damn, what I do?
- 32:42Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 32:43Speaker 3: I said, it can't be that bad for me, just
- 32:45Speaker 3: you know you're trying to be this to me. I'm like,
- 32:47Speaker 3: it's not silver is platinum because platinum?
- 32:53Speaker 1: Yeah, it was better what.
- 32:56Speaker 3: You think like you like, because I just felt like
- 32:59Speaker 3: you can talk to me another way if you're trying
- 33:02Speaker 3: to like just say no like instead of trying to
- 33:05Speaker 3: put me down in front of everybody because of my
- 33:07Speaker 3: background where I come from. I was like, okay, and
- 33:12Speaker 3: me being who I am, I could be an asshole
- 33:15Speaker 3: a little bit. I was just like, nah, it's platine
- 33:18Speaker 3: and I was ready to hoop again, but he just
- 33:20Speaker 3: took it to hold on another kick me out price.
- 33:21Speaker 3: So it just went downhill from there, and I just
- 33:24Speaker 3: was like calling back home because my post was living
- 33:26Speaker 3: in clean They was in Cleveland coaching at the time,
- 33:28Speaker 3: and I was telling him how I was being treated
- 33:30Speaker 3: and this, and he was like, be professional. My dad
- 33:33Speaker 3: was all about, don't disrespect the game. He coming to
- 33:35Speaker 3: practice stuff like that. So I did. And you know,
- 33:40Speaker 3: one day I had a next Tael phone because I
- 33:42Speaker 3: had two phones in college, so I had the next
- 33:43Speaker 3: Tell the church and you could record, and I was like, yo, damn,
- 33:47Speaker 3: I'm telling you he'd be talking crazy to me. I'm
- 33:49Speaker 3: gonna snap on him one day, like he's just talking crazy,
- 33:53Speaker 3: and I just recorded. I let my dad hear it.
- 33:55Speaker 3: My dad still and then my dad eventually got fired
- 33:58Speaker 3: from Cleveland, so he started coming to the games around
- 34:00Speaker 3: me more, making sure my mentor is making sure everything
- 34:02Speaker 3: was straight. And when he first got there, he said,
- 34:04Speaker 3: behind the bench, and we was doing so bad that
- 34:07Speaker 3: the wac On newspaper people don't know this fake with
- 34:10Speaker 3: new papers like yo, when need to be a trip?
- 34:11Speaker 3: If coach Lucas ends up becoming the head coach of
- 34:14Speaker 3: the Fairs because he already had it, because he's already
- 34:19Speaker 3: training all of us in the summertime and he was
- 34:22Speaker 3: man the next game, next home game we had they
- 34:24Speaker 3: had my mom and pops in the note damn they
- 34:28Speaker 3: had my mom and pops, my dad who is He
- 34:32Speaker 3: grabbed my mom said, man, come on, we're going back down,
- 34:34Speaker 3: said that down right back to his normal sea. But
- 34:36Speaker 3: they had had our ticket. My ticket was all the
- 34:38Speaker 3: way in the those.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Beleeve that that's crazy.
- 34:43Speaker 3: Yeah, And then all of a sudden, you know, unfortunately
- 34:48Speaker 3: what happened, What happened, you know RP to my teammate Pat,
- 34:51Speaker 3: then all that stuff happening in the summer and obviously
- 34:55Speaker 3: you know we went through you know what we went
- 34:57Speaker 3: through right right right, you know it's that was a
- 35:02Speaker 3: crazy time. That was a real a real dark time.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:08Speaker 5: I can ask the question, like when that time happened,
- 35:10Speaker 5: like to go through that or whatever, with your teammate.
- 35:13Speaker 5: It's a tough I can't even imagine what that feel
- 35:16Speaker 5: like to even go through that, Like where.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Would you think? What you thinking?
- 35:18Speaker 5: Like, Yo, I'm getting out of Baylor, like I gotta
- 35:20Speaker 5: lead this place like it ain't for me, or would
- 35:22Speaker 5: you like damn.
- 35:23Speaker 3: Let's well, before before all that happened, i was already
- 35:27Speaker 3: checked out, okay, yeah, and I'm like, man, I'm transferring.
- 35:31Speaker 3: He was like, you ain't transfer I'm holding your paper.
- 35:32Speaker 3: You stuck here for two years, that type of vibe. Yeah,
- 35:37Speaker 3: So I was like, I'm like, I'm transferring. I don't
- 35:41Speaker 3: know what's gonna happen, you know what I'm saying, Like,
- 35:43Speaker 3: but I know I'm I ain't playing for I ain't
- 35:45Speaker 3: playing here no more. And then that situation happened, and
- 35:48Speaker 3: it was crazy because like everybody was in Houston training
- 35:51Speaker 3: with us that day, and then we get the phone
- 35:53Speaker 3: call asking if we seen Pat. I was like, now
- 35:55Speaker 3: he's not down here lift it like that. Then we
- 35:59Speaker 3: ain't think nothing of it. We just thought, okay, so
- 36:02Speaker 3: we're still going there. Now. Weeks go by. Now, all
- 36:04Speaker 3: of a sudden, you see on CNN, you see the
- 36:06Speaker 3: FBI involved. You see all that's going on, and my
- 36:09Speaker 3: teammate Artie Gwynn started like recording like all the conversations,
- 36:15Speaker 3: and like one of the conversations popped up. I never
- 36:18Speaker 3: forget this when I got when my name got cleared
- 36:21Speaker 3: from everything from like you know, if I accepted any
- 36:23Speaker 3: money or anything like that is they got on tape,
- 36:26Speaker 3: said well we can't go to Lucas cause he ain't
- 36:27Speaker 3: gonna lie for us. And wow, boy, like that was
- 36:32Speaker 3: a bet, like seeing my dad chest poked out all
- 36:35Speaker 3: the teaching and the principles and stuff he taught me
- 36:38Speaker 3: about brother and you.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Ain't with him at this point either.
- 36:42Speaker 3: And I ain't talking. I'm just this. I like I
- 36:45Speaker 3: just wanted to hoop. And it was like when that
- 36:48Speaker 3: came out, I remember getting that phone call saying you cleared,
- 36:52Speaker 3: Like you enjoy the rest of your college career. You
- 36:56Speaker 3: don't have to worry. Because they started like how did
- 36:58Speaker 3: he get his car? Like I had my car myself
- 37:00Speaker 3: when you're in high school. How he gets his rooms
- 37:03Speaker 3: Steve Francis brought my rooms. How he gets how you
- 37:06Speaker 3: get your life? How you how you get your system
- 37:08Speaker 3: in your car? Like you know what I'm saying, Like
- 37:12Speaker 3: those are my big brothers. So they saw me doing
- 37:14Speaker 3: good and they like, I'm training every day with them.
- 37:17Speaker 3: I'm in it. So they like man like different, you know,
- 37:21Speaker 3: a regular. It was just like I grew up different.
- 37:26Speaker 1: It's like back to we didn't even get to the
- 37:30Speaker 1: good ship. Yeah, when he grew up in Philly. Let's
- 37:33Speaker 1: talk about it here.
- 37:33Speaker 3: That I grew up in How old are you when
- 37:37Speaker 3: you moved to Philing sixth grade middle school? I went
- 37:39Speaker 3: to balakan With middle school. It's only two NBA players
- 37:41Speaker 3: ever come out of Balaquan with middle school. And who
- 37:45Speaker 3: is that the goat first of all? So Jordan Kobe Dean.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Oh okay, you look at looking at me.
- 37:54Speaker 3: Look it's only two that came out ball in middle
- 37:58Speaker 3: school Kobe Brian, John Lucas the third h J three
- 38:01Speaker 3: since the w Y. I'm telling you, it's just like
- 38:05Speaker 3: it's crazy because we like we just literally moved to Philadelva.
- 38:09Speaker 3: My dad was the president and the general manager, president
- 38:12Speaker 3: and head coach of the seventy six ers when he
- 38:14Speaker 3: was there. What hold on?
- 38:15Speaker 1: This is just me like what what is that? Like?
- 38:18Speaker 2: Like I grew up my mom and dad worked down
- 38:21Speaker 2: the street and ship, like you.
- 38:22Speaker 7: Know what I mean, I be Yeah, I get you,
- 38:25Speaker 7: you know, my man, Yeah, I get you.
- 38:27Speaker 1: You're my nigga.
- 38:28Speaker 5: But like, what is that like to know, like your
- 38:30Speaker 5: dad is like an NBA coach, your dad played in
- 38:33Speaker 5: the league, but like he the guy.
- 38:36Speaker 3: What's that? What's that like normal? I ain't think that
- 38:38Speaker 3: was just normal? That every day to me?
- 38:40Speaker 1: That shi it was.
- 38:41Speaker 3: I mean, bro, when I was like five years old,
- 38:43Speaker 3: I remember going to the barbershop with Michael Jordan and
- 38:45Speaker 3: my dad. Michael Jordan picked us up in the corvette
- 38:47Speaker 3: and I'm sitting my dad's left we driving on the
- 38:49Speaker 3: South side Chicago while they go get haircuts during the
- 38:51Speaker 3: Eastern Conference playoffs and my poster playing in Milwaukee.
- 38:55Speaker 1: That's all right.
- 38:56Speaker 3: Like I got every Michael Jordan's shoe he ever played
- 38:59Speaker 3: and signed.
- 39:00Speaker 1: I know, I listen, I know, I know.
- 39:02Speaker 3: I'm talking about the shoes he played in sign like
- 39:04Speaker 3: the shoes he got crossed up in against Allen. I
- 39:07Speaker 3: got it in my garage sign. I know I was
- 39:10Speaker 3: a ball boy.
- 39:10Speaker 2: I'm just speaking for the people who know, so I know,
- 39:15Speaker 2: I know, yeah, I know, I'm.
- 39:18Speaker 3: Yeah the coat, Yeah I was, I was. I've been
- 39:20Speaker 3: a ball boy my whole life. So I've been around.
- 39:24Speaker 3: I've been around like my dad. I was like, you know,
- 39:28Speaker 3: every kid who just want to be around. So when
- 39:31Speaker 3: my dad went to the gym and met her, I
- 39:33Speaker 3: was a ball boys. I used to mop the floor
- 39:35Speaker 3: like free throws. I was that kid mopping the floor.
- 39:37Speaker 3: I was that kid, you know, doing everything. I learned
- 39:41Speaker 3: how to talk to girls by going into the into
- 39:43Speaker 3: the stands, get numbers, and I used to I used
- 39:47Speaker 3: to the players. You give me like fifty dollars, go
- 39:49Speaker 3: get a number, and then you give me one hundred dollars,
- 39:50Speaker 3: go get a hot dog and and preszels and be like.
- 39:53Speaker 3: I was like, here, you're change. But now, Luke, you
- 39:55Speaker 3: got it, keep it change. I changed eighty five dollars.
- 39:58Speaker 3: I'm walking home three four hundred, like six years old.
- 40:02Speaker 3: Seven years old as a ball boy and getting paid
- 40:04Speaker 3: on top of that as a ball boy.
- 40:06Speaker 6: Was What was it like first seeing Kobe hooped up?
- 40:09Speaker 6: When was your first glance at Kobe Bryant?
- 40:12Speaker 3: Amazing?
- 40:15Speaker 1: The biggest Kobe fan in the world.
- 40:18Speaker 5: You can't say nothing, but I love Kobe too, not
- 40:21Speaker 5: as much as I love Jordan, but you I'm gonna
- 40:23Speaker 5: let him go.
- 40:24Speaker 3: You got let me get up. Amazing, Broy, give me
- 40:29Speaker 3: that time. We want to story time with. My mom
- 40:32Speaker 3: is the one who discovered Kobe, not like overall, but
- 40:35Speaker 3: she the one who is newspapers and everything. So I
- 40:37Speaker 3: can give you all all these off facts. I never
- 40:39Speaker 3: lie saw facts. My mom comes home one day. I
- 40:43Speaker 3: just got back from tennis practice with my dad. She
- 40:45Speaker 3: come home one day and tell my pox, I think
- 40:48Speaker 3: I seen a better high school player than you.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Mm hm. My dad like, what this is funny?
- 40:56Speaker 3: Like he low key about to bring a drug test
- 40:58Speaker 3: out to test. My mama makes just he's straight. So
- 41:01Speaker 3: my dad was like, next time they play, we going
- 41:04Speaker 3: to the game, like my mom, come in. It's a
- 41:07Speaker 3: king named Kobe. King named Kobe Lloyd Man had to
- 41:10Speaker 3: go to my sister. My sister graduated Lord Marry and
- 41:15Speaker 3: so my dad I never give it a Friday, So
- 41:17Speaker 3: we go liewdle Men in high school. They had a
- 41:18Speaker 3: home game, so my dad packed me and my little
- 41:20Speaker 3: brother up in the car. We just got done working out.
- 41:23Speaker 3: So we go all the way to the game and
- 41:25Speaker 3: he see Jelly, you know, Jelly in there his pops
- 41:28Speaker 3: and my dad was like, Jelly, what you doing here?
- 41:30Speaker 3: Like oh, he was like a man, I'm here to
- 41:31Speaker 3: see my son play. He's like, yeah, man, my wife
- 41:33Speaker 3: come on home talking about it's a kid up here
- 41:35Speaker 3: named Kobe that's supposed to be I didn't me in
- 41:36Speaker 3: high school, like she he the next best great thing
- 41:39Speaker 3: ever to play the game. And he was like, oh man,
- 41:40Speaker 3: that's my son, right. So we so he was like
- 41:43Speaker 3: for real, like you know what, my dad. So we're
- 41:46Speaker 3: sitting there watching and then the game start. Kobe starts
- 41:49Speaker 3: out at the five. He went the jump ball till
- 41:52Speaker 3: they throw the ball a head, he out run first,
- 41:54Speaker 3: played the game. He win me damn. And that day
- 41:59Speaker 3: I was locked dean because you know, you don't see it.
- 42:03Speaker 3: So he was like eleven, not twelve. Twelve, yeah, sixth grade.
- 42:07Speaker 3: I think like eleven too about the turn to I
- 42:09Speaker 3: got late birthday, so I probably wasn't that about to
- 42:11Speaker 3: turn to okay, but yeah, and then we start. Then
- 42:14Speaker 3: we started going to every high school and my dad
- 42:16Speaker 3: and then then my dad started having him come practice
- 42:19Speaker 3: with the Sixers because they didn't have a practice cility
- 42:23Speaker 3: at the time. They used to Saint Joseph University was
- 42:25Speaker 3: the practice cility. That's why I say basketball is a
- 42:28Speaker 3: full circle for me. Yeah right, So I live right
- 42:31Speaker 3: down the streets in Saint Joe's used to go hoop.
- 42:33Speaker 1: Every day and.
- 42:36Speaker 3: So now we you know, my dad got him practicing.
- 42:38Speaker 3: And what my dad used to do is he big
- 42:41Speaker 3: on competition. So he used to match Kobe up against
- 42:43Speaker 3: all of the draft workouts. So Jerry stad cows all
- 42:50Speaker 3: those guys who got drafted, right, Kobe beat them all
- 42:52Speaker 3: one on one, damn. And they was like, man, what
- 42:55Speaker 3: school he went to school? Like what cos he want?
- 42:58Speaker 3: My dad like, man, he a junior high. This is
- 43:00Speaker 3: junior year man.
- 43:02Speaker 1: And Jerry say, yeah, it was phenomenal, amazing.
- 43:06Speaker 3: So like like y'all have y'all had, y'all had my
- 43:10Speaker 3: O g on here Vernon Maxwell, I got stories about
- 43:13Speaker 3: him for days, but we ain't gonna get in there shot.
- 43:16Speaker 3: But vern what he said about Cole ready to fight,
- 43:19Speaker 3: he was ready to fight up. Coke didn back down
- 43:21Speaker 3: from there. I was there. I was at that part.
- 43:22Speaker 3: Cole was ready to get his like Vernon crazy.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Bro, we know, like got the record for it. Motherfucker's
- 43:30Speaker 1: on her.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Yeah, Vernon said the first five minutes, he said thirty
- 43:33Speaker 2: seven motherfuckers in the first Yeah, Vernon crazy forty seven fucker.
- 43:37Speaker 3: So Vernon was ready to fight Kobe, Like Kobe was
- 43:40Speaker 3: really going.
- 43:41Speaker 1: At him and he was seventeen seventeen.
- 43:44Speaker 3: He ain't back down, and I was just like, oh,
- 43:48Speaker 3: and then I started, Like then I started. He started
- 43:49Speaker 3: picking me up from school. He was picking me up
- 43:51Speaker 3: from my house. You're life different, I remember, I'll never
- 43:54Speaker 3: get when he got his car. He got a forest
- 43:57Speaker 3: green Toyoda land Cruise.
- 44:00Speaker 1: This nigga life different.
- 44:02Speaker 3: Remember he picked me up because he was going to
- 44:04Speaker 3: work out the city. I was like this call and
- 44:06Speaker 3: he had like two trash bags in the trunk of
- 44:08Speaker 3: his car. I was like, man, what you got in
- 44:10Speaker 3: the trash bag? He was like young bull. You know
- 44:13Speaker 3: in Philly they said young bull. It was like young
- 44:15Speaker 3: boys a game everywhere in Philly. I ain't got time
- 44:17Speaker 3: to go back home and get my gear and then
- 44:18Speaker 3: come back and the game might be over. I gotta
- 44:20Speaker 3: be ready right now.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Boy.
- 44:22Speaker 3: When I got my Dodge d Ringo my sophomore year,
- 44:25Speaker 3: I ain't putting no trash bags in my back. Had like, hey,
- 44:36Speaker 3: that's first thing I in the trunk of my car.
- 44:40Speaker 3: I put four pair of hoopy shoes and a bag
- 44:44Speaker 3: of just hoop gear.
- 44:45Speaker 5: But this is a fact because when I went to Minnesota,
- 44:48Speaker 5: this nigga was retired from the league. Nigga still had
- 44:51Speaker 5: a back of shoes in the back of his car.
- 44:53Speaker 3: Did you wear who shorts on your under your pants? Absolutely? Yeah,
- 44:58Speaker 3: when he was getting busy at lunch time, like you
- 45:01Speaker 3: didn't have time, like you had your shorts on them.
- 45:03Speaker 3: I was living in Philly at time, so we always
- 45:05Speaker 3: wore tim so you'd be hooping in tim you know,
- 45:10Speaker 3: it was just different. But yeah, you had shorts on underneath.
- 45:13Speaker 3: That was normal.
- 45:14Speaker 1: That's just kids.
- 45:15Speaker 6: I just like bring it up for the nostalgia. But
- 45:18Speaker 6: like kids, our kids don't understand that ship.
- 45:21Speaker 4: Bro.
- 45:22Speaker 1: We always want to parties with my shorts. Like I'm
- 45:25Speaker 1: not about to go hoop. I'm really about trying to
- 45:26Speaker 1: go get something.
- 45:27Speaker 3: But like.
- 45:30Speaker 1: Shorts, definitely. Yeah.
- 45:32Speaker 6: Yeah, you're supposed to put your opinions down a little

- 46:39Speaker 3: didn't wear like how like how now NBA kids went
- 46:43Speaker 3: like the Gucci and all, but like take that million.

- 47:26Speaker 1: That's yeah.
- 47:28Speaker 3: So it was just like for me, I just I
- 47:30Speaker 3: just was like a sponge soaking up all the games.
- 47:32Speaker 4: Is that the best high school basketball player you ever? Said?
- 47:34Speaker 3: Yes?
- 47:35Speaker 4: Because you saw Lebron too? Ye you saw him? Do
- 47:39Speaker 4: you speak on that?
- 47:39Speaker 6: When we see Lebron in high school with his workout
- 47:41Speaker 6: with the pros, that was a better showing Kobe's showing
- 47:46Speaker 6: with the you got.
- 47:48Speaker 3: Kobe had an impact on me as an individual, So
- 47:52Speaker 3: I saw different work at that. I saw what it
- 47:54Speaker 3: what it took to be a pro yea. So the
- 47:58Speaker 3: impact was a little bit different than like, now, that
- 48:00Speaker 3: could be my little brother's story about Lebron, you know
- 48:04Speaker 3: what I'm saying. But for me, I was in college
- 48:06Speaker 3: when I first saw Broun. Understand, my post was coaching
- 48:10Speaker 3: in Cleveland, and I never remember coming. I just got
- 48:14Speaker 3: done with my second year when I was going through everything,
- 48:18Speaker 3: and my past was still in Cleveland. So I used
- 48:19Speaker 3: to fly back on like holidays or the summers and
- 48:22Speaker 3: was in Cleveland, and you know, I trained with the
- 48:25Speaker 3: guys like that, and my dad was like, man, it's
- 48:28Speaker 3: a kid up here better than Kobe. And I was like, man,
- 48:33Speaker 3: whatever like that. He was like, well, take your little brother.
- 48:36Speaker 3: So my little brother's playing on Lebron's high school coach
- 48:40Speaker 3: Jruce Jordan, he had an AU team called Actling Superstars.
- 48:44Speaker 3: My little brother played on that team, okay, and they
- 48:46Speaker 3: practiced at the University of Akron. So I took my
- 48:49Speaker 3: little brother to a practice one day and they were
- 48:51Speaker 3: hooping in the back gym. Come and find out a
- 48:54Speaker 3: lot of these guys, a local acting was hooping in
- 48:56Speaker 3: the back gym while my brother knew was practicing. I
- 48:58Speaker 3: was also hooping too. So that's when I first saw Lebron.
- 49:01Speaker 3: And when I first saw him, it was just, you know,
- 49:04Speaker 3: it was some mile sauce. That's just my opinion. Wasn't like.
- 49:11Speaker 3: But then my dad started inviting him like he did
- 49:14Speaker 3: with Kobe, because he was like, man, you know, I'm
- 49:15Speaker 3: just gonna get in the game and let him just
- 49:18Speaker 3: come work out. I don't think I ain't trying. I
- 49:20Speaker 3: don't want nothing from this kid, just you know, let's
- 49:23Speaker 3: get some good bump in. So we had a little
- 49:26Speaker 3: mini camp and my dad used to fly in guys
- 49:28Speaker 3: from Ohio State Kansas, you know guys, and we have
- 49:32Speaker 3: a mini camp and we'll play against the you know,
- 49:34Speaker 3: the rookies who was already there getting ready for some
- 49:37Speaker 3: believe it's a little screamage little mini camp. And bron
- 49:39Speaker 3: came and like nobody was passing Broun the ball because
- 49:42Speaker 3: everybody knew was in high school. And we was all
- 49:45Speaker 3: like not passing the ball. My dad like stopped practice, like, hey, y'all,
- 49:50Speaker 3: little motherfuckers back, get him the ball. He the best
- 49:52Speaker 3: one on the court, like not talking about his players,
- 49:54Speaker 3: but he was just talking about guys on our team,
- 49:57Speaker 3: and we like, man, whatever. So I had the ball
- 49:59Speaker 3: on the point so I can control everything. So I
- 50:01Speaker 3: was just like discussed. I was like, man, here, like
- 50:04Speaker 3: through the ball to him, like like he ain't gonna
- 50:06Speaker 3: do nothing then, so we'll get it right back. Hey,
- 50:09Speaker 3: bro we he on the right seating, right hand side
- 50:15Speaker 3: of the court. He's being guarded by Ricky Davis. He
- 50:19Speaker 3: make a move, just do something, go baseline. So now
- 50:23Speaker 3: you got Chris mill siganad ya.
- 50:27Speaker 1: The whole calf scene. By the way, they all help.
- 50:30Speaker 3: Sign so they all come up. He jumps outside the
- 50:33Speaker 3: paint like jumps like and like Cigan and this man
- 50:40Speaker 3: underneath the rim reversing hoes it in without looking at
- 50:45Speaker 3: the rim was a ball and you know he like
- 50:50Speaker 3: this and just keep going. Man, he got to put
- 50:55Speaker 3: ball every possession out of there because it was unbelievable.
- 50:58Speaker 3: He's like, what else can he not? What else can you? Yeah?
- 51:00Speaker 1: He unbelievable.
- 51:03Speaker 3: I got the coaching, like you know what I'm saying.
- 51:06Speaker 3: So I'm seeing that and I'm like yo, he like
- 51:10Speaker 3: and then all the time you get to see and
- 51:11Speaker 3: then then I'm around Maverick, I'm around Rich like like
- 51:16Speaker 3: before Rich became clutch. Rich sold everybody the throw back
- 51:20Speaker 3: jerseys out the trunk. Every throwback I got I brought
- 51:23Speaker 3: from Rich, like every throw back Mitchell and that jerky
- 51:26Speaker 3: I brought from Rich. In Cleveland, he had a van
- 51:29Speaker 3: he suosedld sell out the van. That's where I got
- 51:31Speaker 3: my jerseys from. He overcharged me too, but you know
- 51:35Speaker 3: we had to get him. Yeah, real stock. But yeah,
- 51:39Speaker 3: so Mark and then all of a sudden, you know,
- 51:42Speaker 3: my pops get fined two hundred thousand because all the
- 51:45Speaker 3: other teams started complaining saying he had you know, cause
- 51:47Speaker 3: he's gonna be no. One pick and then you know
- 51:50Speaker 3: he got fired, you know, and then you know Ron
- 51:54Speaker 3: end up getting drafted by Cleveland.
- 51:55Speaker 1: But what the moments do for you?
- 51:56Speaker 5: Because I know, you leave Baylor and you go to
- 51:58Speaker 5: Okay State and this is what we like I felt,
- 52:02Speaker 5: I like fell in love with your game and found
- 52:03Speaker 5: out who you was because okay, stay, you had a
- 52:06Speaker 5: squad and you was hoping you was killing. But I
- 52:09Speaker 5: love Saint Joe's and we don't get to that game,
- 52:11Speaker 5: Jamr and Nelson Delonze. I wore T shirts under my
- 52:13Speaker 5: jersey like I hooped in Barkley's bronze and all that
- 52:17Speaker 5: ship because Maar and Nelson and.
- 52:21Speaker 1: Go ahead, because you you fucked up.
- 52:22Speaker 2: You fucked up my momental because them niggas was cold
- 52:25Speaker 2: and they was undefeated.
- 52:26Speaker 3: They were called they like my g So when I man,
- 52:31Speaker 3: it was a blad like God had my back, bro,
- 52:33Speaker 3: That's all I can say. Because I live walk on.
- 52:36Speaker 3: I was literally going to Memphis. Well you talk about you, Yeah,
- 52:41Speaker 3: like I had Memphis Rutgers in Georgia and I was
- 52:46Speaker 3: already like I'm going to Memphis called Caliperry already been
- 52:48Speaker 3: out there summertimes. You know, Like now that I coach.
- 52:52Speaker 3: You know, you do go to different places and pick
- 52:53Speaker 3: each other's brain. So my pops was doing that, like
- 52:56Speaker 3: in between like jobs. He'd be like, I gotta go
- 52:58Speaker 3: to Memphis, and would go to Memphis. He in there
- 53:00Speaker 3: talking to coach Calibery. They talking x's and o's, and
- 53:03Speaker 3: now I'm practicing with the team, shooting, getting my workout.
- 53:05Speaker 3: So everywhere we went, I've always worked out, you know
- 53:08Speaker 3: what I'm saying. So I was like, man, Memphis, you
- 53:11Speaker 3: know that'd be a great look Coach cal it was
- 53:14Speaker 3: gonna be a Darius Washington was coming in. He'll be
- 53:16Speaker 3: coming in my senior year. But then Victor Williams was
- 53:25Speaker 3: He went to Oklahoma State point guard. He was He
- 53:27Speaker 3: was the man at Old State too. Victor wins was
- 53:30Speaker 3: a point guard and he did his draft work out
- 53:32Speaker 3: with my pops and he kept saying, like, Yo, you
- 53:35Speaker 3: should go to Old State State. By the time, like
- 53:38Speaker 3: I was wild and I had braids, I used to
- 53:40Speaker 3: wear grill.
- 53:41Speaker 1: Like I.
- 53:43Speaker 3: Was Houston. So Paul Wall one of my one of
- 53:45Speaker 3: my really good friends. So when that song let Me
- 53:47Speaker 3: See Your Grills came out, he made me six at
- 53:49Speaker 3: the bottom all diamon out so and I was in
- 53:54Speaker 3: a rap song. So people don't even realize. Paul Wall
- 53:56Speaker 3: and Chameleon, they had this group called Color Changing clip
- 53:59Speaker 3: Bro Still My Money and yeah, and Paul Wall said,
- 54:04Speaker 3: he said, I swerved down the Baylor to watch John
- 54:06Speaker 3: Lucas score and Jordan came back to the game because
- 54:09Speaker 3: the game was bored.
- 54:10Speaker 1: It was on a mixtape, so that.
- 54:13Speaker 9: Was like, my man, don't forget you know, you don't
- 54:22Speaker 9: forget stuff like that, right, you niggas don't never forget
- 54:29Speaker 9: you are said you.
- 54:31Speaker 3: Don't forget it because at the end, I wasn't even
- 54:33Speaker 3: inspecting it because the mixtapes you just come out every
- 54:36Speaker 3: every Friday. So I'm up here driving make the bailing.
- 54:39Speaker 3: I just brought the mixtape that Color could and I
- 54:42Speaker 3: hear it. I said, hold on, what do he saying?
- 54:44Speaker 3: I rewinded and I was like, so I walked on
- 54:47Speaker 3: campus now everybody so everybody like, oh, like Paul Wow,
- 54:50Speaker 3: shot at you. I'm like, I'm playing it cool when
- 54:54Speaker 3: I'm no key hyped because he don't put me on
- 54:57Speaker 3: like I'm at Baylor. We trash, yeah, like maybe ten
- 55:04Speaker 3: we were, but we had a great squad. We just
- 55:07Speaker 3: was running flex so we had horses. We should have
- 55:09Speaker 3: been running, but he's no, that's here and there. So
- 55:13Speaker 3: Victor Winim was like, man, you should take a visit
- 55:15Speaker 3: to Oklahoma. Say it'd be a perfect fit for you.
- 55:17Speaker 3: They don't got a point guard ba Boom. But at
- 55:19Speaker 3: the time the n C double A said we couldn't transfer.
- 55:22Speaker 3: When they said all this, we couldn't transfer into conference,
- 55:25Speaker 3: so I could go anywhere and not sit out. But
- 55:27Speaker 3: if I went like and then like two weeks later
- 55:31Speaker 3: they said, y'all can transfer in the conference and you
- 55:33Speaker 3: won't be penalized. Okay, So originally transfer before the transfer.
- 55:38Speaker 3: So originally I wanted to go to Texas. No TJ left,
- 55:43Speaker 3: he just got tracked. TJ he was in there with
- 55:46Speaker 3: Booby was on the way in there. Booby came with
- 55:49Speaker 3: my senior. So Rebarns kept the buck with me. I'm
- 55:53Speaker 3: like trying to like yeo, Rebarns, like, I want to
- 55:55Speaker 3: come to Texas. You already know I can do well.
- 55:57Speaker 3: My other teammate, Kenny Taylor, who was a shooter, he
- 56:01Speaker 3: ended up going to Texas and Rick Barnes kept the
- 56:04Speaker 3: Buckers like yo, we committed to Daniel Gibson and we
- 56:08Speaker 3: don't want to bring you in because we might de commit, right,
- 56:12Speaker 3: But he wanted to come in into my senior year,
- 56:15Speaker 3: so then I had to respect it. So then I
- 56:18Speaker 3: was like cool. So then the legendary Adie Southern called
- 56:22Speaker 3: me one day because of Victor Williams, and I go
- 56:25Speaker 3: up there. I had a I never forget. I went
- 56:27Speaker 3: up there. I had my braids, just my mom used
- 56:29Speaker 3: to brave my hair, so I had fresh braids. I
- 56:31Speaker 3: had an Iceman San Antonio throw back Jersey on.
- 56:35Speaker 1: Like you know what.
- 56:38Speaker 3: And I go visit and I go by the campus, right,
- 56:40Speaker 3: I'm like, man, it's the middle of nowhere. But I'm
- 56:42Speaker 3: a city boy. Like now, I'm eight hours away from Houston.
- 56:45Speaker 3: I ain't that. I'm not getting on no highway driving
- 56:47Speaker 3: eight out you know what I'm saying. And then the
- 56:49Speaker 3: next best city is Oklahoma City. Come on exactly. They
- 56:54Speaker 3: didn't have a team out there then, So I went
- 56:57Speaker 3: out there and they ain't tell me I had to
- 57:01Speaker 3: cut my hair, damn. Like my dad Ben wanted me
- 57:04Speaker 3: to come here because that's when the big like the
- 57:06Speaker 3: NBA was changing over to like appearances and you know,
- 57:09Speaker 3: it's a business and stuff. But I was fighting. I
- 57:12Speaker 3: was fighting. I was I ain't cutting my hair where
- 57:14Speaker 3: my AI was like I'm watching it, you know what
- 57:16Speaker 3: I'm saying. And then TJ cut his hair like right
- 57:20Speaker 3: before the draft. And then TJ my dad had TJ
- 57:24Speaker 3: called me to like kind of taught me and come out,
- 57:27Speaker 3: y'all go. So I went to Oklahoma State first braids
- 57:30Speaker 3: and everything. I'm like, man, all right, you know, I'm
- 57:33Speaker 3: looking at the team. I don't know who Tony Allen is.
- 57:35Speaker 3: I mean, I know playing against him. I ain't know
- 57:37Speaker 3: the Grams cause they was coming off a redshirt year
- 57:39Speaker 3: cause they transferred. I ain't know who Daniel Bobby was.
- 57:42Speaker 3: I ain't know who a couple, but something in my
- 57:45Speaker 3: spirit was like this is where you need to be.
- 57:48Speaker 3: So when I was like commit, they never said nothing
- 57:51Speaker 3: about cutting my hair. So now I was like, man,
- 57:54Speaker 3: you know what, coach, I want to come here. So
- 57:56Speaker 3: he was like, oh, you know, I got a couple
- 57:57Speaker 3: of rules. I was like, okay, I'm thinking, like you know,
- 58:00Speaker 3: he was like, one rule, I can't have braids, you
- 58:04Speaker 3: can't have facial hair. Then you go back and look
- 58:06Speaker 3: at our team number guys rue and my dad was
- 58:11Speaker 3: like so I went back home was like, well, let
- 58:14Speaker 3: me think about that. I flew back to Houston and
- 58:17Speaker 3: I'm near my Barbara Marquette. I walked in there. I
- 58:21Speaker 3: just firstly picked it up, and you know, you have
- 58:23Speaker 3: braids for a long time, you still get the lines.
- 58:26Speaker 3: I was like, chop it off. What my mama was man,
- 58:30Speaker 3: because she was like, that's somebody, that's another man trying
- 58:32Speaker 3: to control you. Like she barely. She very militant, and
- 58:37Speaker 3: my dad was all for it. So I ended up
- 58:39Speaker 3: cutting my hair and I committed in Oklahoma State and
- 58:42Speaker 3: they didn't have no scholarships, so I didn't even care.
- 58:46Speaker 3: I was like, gonna pay for school. So I ended
- 58:50Speaker 3: up my junior year. Of the year, I won the
- 58:51Speaker 3: Big Toy Player of the Year, John Nate Smith Award,
- 58:53Speaker 3: First Team all the married. I'm just giving you a
- 58:54Speaker 3: little bit of accolades.
- 58:56Speaker 8: But but but I was a walk on respect greatest,
- 59:05Speaker 8: greatest walk on ever and people didn't know I.
- 59:07Speaker 3: Was walking on. I paid my ju go do it.
- 59:10Speaker 3: They already came out with the facts. They already did it.
- 59:17Speaker 4: So shouts to the Texas Place.
- 59:20Speaker 3: So so I ended up paying my junior year. So
- 59:24Speaker 3: the year we went to the Final four and stuff
- 59:26Speaker 3: like I was a walking I always have been on scholarship.
- 59:28Speaker 3: I didn't go on scholarship until my senior year. To
- 59:31Speaker 3: my senior y'all went.
- 59:32Speaker 2: On scholars boosters out of pocket. That should have made
- 59:34Speaker 2: that happen. Walk On, walk On, he's the greatest.
- 59:39Speaker 3: I gotta get it.
- 59:40Speaker 8: I gotta get it.
- 59:41Speaker 3: You know I got but hey, I gotta get it
- 59:43Speaker 3: to in Chicago. So yes, gott he might be the
- 59:45Speaker 3: best walk On ever.
- 59:48Speaker 1: Shot to get him to the Final four.
- 59:49Speaker 6: Though Shout looked at the elite lead. A game was
- 59:54Speaker 6: was big.
- 59:54Speaker 2: Though it was about to pay My favorite thing we
- 59:58Speaker 2: was talking before the podcast, and that one was definitely
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: fresher than you in college when it came to the shoes.
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: But you had a good game that game, you know what, Jami,
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: and now that every time you see me, curse me out.
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: But his shoe game one better.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: Nah, you're crazy.
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: I mean you you could just.
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: You had a Nike deal.
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: I didn't have a Nike deal.
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: You Jordan deal.
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: I didn't have a Jordan deal because you know, it
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: wasn't no n I l at the time, so Pops
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: had that. So I just took advantage of what Pops had.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: So I'm trying, like, now you can go on Nike
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: Elaite and order could you get a little back then
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: they used to bring your magazine and you had to
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: go in there and order the magazine. Yeah, I'm I'm
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: forty two. So it's like, you know, and seeing the transition.
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: So I used to I used to make a point
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: that when I first got the old said I was
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: gonna wear a different pair of sshoe every game. Yeah,
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: but then if I would have cooked, like you go
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: to my locker. I had over thirty pair of shoes
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: in my locker at school. But if I cooked in
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: a shoe, I would stay with that shoe. I was superstishes,
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: so I were the same socks, and then I end
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: up put the socks on the same way. So if
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: I ever put my right sock on first, it was
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: always be my right so first, then my left shot,
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: and then I'll go who and I I scored another
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: twenty ball, I'll do the same thing. But them two
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: K four as will always saw so much the two
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: K four as I had. You know, it's something about
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: my step back in the two K fours, I got
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: so much separation.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: I can only go right though.
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: Right would be a fade away away my left to
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: gather the gather step, and then my left would be
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: a step back. Like I it didn't matter what however
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: you want, but it was gonna be a step back.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: But I wasn't that tight player. I wasn't a one
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: on one player like the ice My ice O game
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: was trashed.
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: You ain't had no shame or nothing.
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: I ain't had none that. I'll just put you in
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: the pick and roll, hit my hip and I had
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: Iron May Fall and Joey Graham come to a pick
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: and roll and then I bump you, put you on
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: my hip. Read read read, and then I see the
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: low man he might be.
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: And that's what she was teaching youngster.
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: I was trying to want to listen. Yeah, yeah, he
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: wanted to be Jamal Crawford. But I just learned, like
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: like I didn't have that one on one game.
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: And I asked you to see this, nigga, now you have.
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: Put him on your I'm serious, like I just used
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: to right though. But he right though. But the things
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: that I was trying to tell him back then, it's like, bro,
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: that's the game. And I said, I was just trying
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: to make the game as easy as possible for me. Yeah,
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: that's like if I came out there, because my dad
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: was like, you got a point five decision, making easy
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: to catch you to go. He was like, you ain't
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: no coach. You're gonna give you five seat dribble to
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: get your ship off.
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: So my catch it if I was ware doing for
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: three was going up. If I saw you close out,
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: I was going back. If I was going right, it
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: was gonna be a gather fade away to my right
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: because I wasn't going all the way in the pink
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: because I probably got a block. If I go left,
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: it was a step back, and I make sure I
- 1:03:24Speaker 3: had the right angle just in case you showed me
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: any kind of content. I was going off the glass.
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: So its like I knew my spots. I want to
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: move to your overseas run. How was that like?
- 1:03:34Speaker 6: Did you feel like you had a transition your game
- 1:03:36Speaker 6: when you went overseas for a little bit?
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: Yes?
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: Yes, so you do all this Oklahoma state, Yeah you killing.
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: I went undrafted, drafted every seventeen crazy seventeen and five.
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: Imagine coming out right now, Avery, I'm a liar of
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: me now, I mean people want to lie. Are you
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: getting drafted with six points coming out eight points? Yeah.
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: So it's like I was like if my dad told me, like,
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: I was like washing it. I know I'm getting drafted.
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: Work out with my dad told me you ain't getting drafted,
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: Like he was like shut up. He was like, you're
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: not even drafted. I ain't even gonna watch the draft.
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: He went to the casino him my mom went to casino.
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: He knew.
- 1:04:29Speaker 5: That's about words. That my situation, my bod worst in
- 1:04:33Speaker 5: yours inside school.
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I think he already knew I wasn't gonna get drass.
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: So I'm up here sitting in front of the TV
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: like this, waiting like this. I'm like, oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: The Rockets twenty twenty fifth they took Luther head shout
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: out Luther's head. But I'm like, uh, like, I'm like
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: I worked out for like every team. My agent at
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: the time was David Folk, who was MJS, but my
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: dad was David fowks first client ever, so it was
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: like that was family. So I went with him off top.
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: So it was just like okay, and then like David
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: was like, oh, back in the day that you supper
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: you with whoever the super he had everybody. So just
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: imagine like Jeff t is the man, right and I'm
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: a rookie, but he'll a rookie, he'll a free agent,
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: but he the highest free agent. So the agents used
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: to be like, Oh, if you want Jeff, you're gonna
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: have to take here and here, So paggage deal. So
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: that's what it was like. When I came out, it
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: was package It's not like that anymore, but it was
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: like package deal. So I was like, oh, David before
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: got KG, he got everybody, so I didn't get drafted.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: So then I want to go what happened? I want?
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: I played in three different summer leagues. I played in Vegas.
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: They had one in Minnesota at the time, they had
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: New York, Minnesota, New York, they had Boston. Boston was
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: the other one and they had long been so it
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: was New York. In the Minnesota, it was Cleveland, New York, Indiana.
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: Minnesota is just a four team summer league at the targets,
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: and that was my rookie here. And then I left
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: there and I ended up playing with Cleveland Cavaliers in
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: Vegas for their summer league. Okay, but I ended up
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: signing with the Minnesota Timberwolves as the rookie right. So
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: my rookie year, they drafted Bracy Right and they drafted
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: Rishard mckins. Those are they two for the two picks.
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: And then I was the third rookie, but I was undrafted,
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: you know, I signed a camp deal. Yeah, And so
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: we had Mario Marco Yarrich, We had Lionel Charmers who
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: played Xavier, who's a dog. And we had Troy Hudson
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: with the bread and but then Kate kg was there,
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: whilely Zerbiad you know, Fred was there. We had Mad
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: Dog was there. So I'm a rookie, so I'm there
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: all summer. Dwayne Casey's the head coach, he just got
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: the coaching job. So I'm there all summer. I'm training
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: boom we godrinking. I'm actually doing. I'm like averaging like
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: seven eight points when I'm when I'm getting my times
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: only in the fourth quarter. I'm very efficient. So I
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: ended up making the team. And then I went to
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: bed that night. And matter of fact, you're not gonna
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: believe this because but Floyd Mike, I think it was
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: like Floyd Maywroth somebody had to fight, and I was
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: staying at the Ratising Hotel, you know, the Rasting hotel
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: right there, and that's what they had off the rookie
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: staying at. So one day KG was like, YO, come
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: to my house. We're gonna watch the fight.
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: I'm like all right, cool. So at the time his
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: wife Brandy yep, and she was like, YO, where are
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: your stuff at I'm like, huh, I thought I was
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: just doing to watch the fight. He was like no,
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: KG said, you moving with us?
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: Nah?
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: I know you know. So I'm like huh. So I
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: go upstairs pack my bags real quid. So KG house unbelieving.
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: So I had the whole guest house to myself. His
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: best friend is like t Lou and Chauncey Bill. So
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: the guest house was called the Bill Ups to stay
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: because I guess when you know his family come there,
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: that's what they would say. So I stayed in the
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: guest house. So I didn't have my card at the time.
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: He just brought this brand new CLS cherry beans for
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: his wife. She hated the color, so he so much buddy,
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: she threw me the key. He threw me the Key's like, yo,
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: this is your car. Young fellow at paper place and everything.
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: I'm the only person in Minnesota rookie with the CLS
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: twenty two inch rel driving and I'm like, I'm not
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: on contract, you know what I'm saying. I'm living. So
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: we planning. I'm doing my thing like and so I
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: make the team. I go to bed that night, I'm like, man,
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: I'm like like, thank you God, Like who I go
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: to be? I wake up next morning they made a trade. Yeah,
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: they made a trade. So I'm walking into the facility
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: getting ready for the first day of official practice. They
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: make a trade for Ronald Dupree from the Piston. So
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: Kevin McKell pulled me to the off and they had
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: to cut me KG cause a fit like that was
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: like the fall of like KG like leaving Minnesota. So
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: Kg's like, you ain't going nowhere, Lord, Lord, you ain't
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: going nowhere like that. So he got me staying in Minnesota.
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: He got me staying in Minnesota for two weeks. They're
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: trying to figure it out, and my dad come, It's like, man,
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: you don't bring your ass, like you know what I'm saying.
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: I'm kids, you know. So I go home to Houston,
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: right and we get back to training. Now I'm into
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: My name ordinarily goes into the as the D League
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: at the time, but I didn't even go through the
- 1:09:40Speaker 3: draft because my name was so big in Oklahoma. They
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: allocated me to go to Tulsa with the sixty six ers,
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: and so I ended up playing like the first two
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: months of the season in Tulsa and I'm averaging like
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: eighteen twenty. I get my first call up. So I
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: get a call up to my hometown team, Houston Rocket. Yes, sir,
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: played against the Warriors. I never forget it. Play against
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: the Warriors. That's when they had stack five, they had
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: Baron Davis, you know what I'm saying. So I chick
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: in at the game, like last two minutes of the games,
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: like I'm like running out there with my head cut off,
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: like a chicken with his head cut And I got
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: a rebound on and stole the ball like I'm just
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: moving so fast, I'm going crazy, and we end up
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: losing that game. So then I ended up going and
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: this wasn't the ten day. I just got called up
- 1:10:31Speaker 3: because ten days haven't started yet. So we end up
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: my next game is in DC. A lot of people
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: don't know I was born in d C, so I
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: got family in d C. I'm possibly playing for the
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: Wizard the butt of the Bullets at the time, so
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: me and my sister are born in DC originally, but
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: I don't associate myself with DC because we moved when
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: I was like two years old in Houston, so I'm
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: from Houston. I scored my first NBA bucket gets Chuckie Atkins.
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: We just talked about that was that was my.
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: First NBA bucket. Gets Ruckin Atkins, y'all mean comes to
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: the side picking roll for me, coming to my right hand,
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: and I hit a floater and my aunt, my dad's
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: sister at the time, she was in the stand, so
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: I had a family members and so that was my
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: first NBA bucket was a floater at the arena. But yeah,
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: and then I got cut the next Then we got
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: cut the next day. I got cut the next day
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: because no but I got cut the next day because
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: they had to let me go. So they went and
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: pay extra in taxies. So I ended up flying back
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: with the team to Houston. I had to miss one
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: day of practice and then ten days started. So then
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: me and Chuck Hayes both signed ten day contracts and
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: then I signed another ten day after that, and then
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: they had to make a decision or where They're gonna
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: keep me for the rest of the year or they
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: was gonna let me go. So they ended up letting
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: me go. They kept Chuck Hayes, So I ended up
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: going back to Tulsa finished up that year and then
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: that's when I went to Europe. Then a team in
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: Italy called me to go play in the playoffs, and
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: that's when I played with Poor Allen, Yeah Street, you
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: know poor Allen University coach.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: He coached me in Boston.
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: Correct, So cool was I replaced? I didn't replace him,
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: he was injured, so I was kind of like coming
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: in on his spot. And I've never been overseas a
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: day in my life mm hm, And so I was like,
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: oh no, I was ready to check out. They put
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: me in a hotel, you know, you in the NBA
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: us A, and they put me in a hole in
- 1:12:25Speaker 3: the wall. And then I was like, I'm calasophobic a
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: little bit, so I wanted to go raise the window.
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: No light coming in because they had a metal sheet
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: over the window. I'm like, oh, man, got me in jail,
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: Like that's why but I didn't know that was their
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: blind So it's a metal sheet to keep the you know.
- 1:12:39Speaker 3: So so if I would have went like this, then
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: the metal sheet goes up. I didn't know that, like,
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: and the bed was fall out out and my dad.
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: I called my dad. I was like, man, I'm about
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: to swipe the car. Just know I'm about to swipe
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: the car, and I'm coming home. They can keep this
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: bread like. I'm just gonna get ready for some leg
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: My dad was like, just go to the first practice.
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: He was like, just go to because you know, when
- 1:12:59Speaker 3: I get around ball, I'm in my conference zone straight.
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: So I went to my first practice and I was, okay,
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: let me, I can do one more day. And then
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: I just kept letting, and then I just that was
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: my first time playing Europe and I played only played playoffs.
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: I got thirty five thousand for seven games. That was
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: more than my G League contact, my D League contact
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: because at the time, that was a year in G League, right, No,
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: less was my biggest contract in the in the D
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: League was we had. So this was I feel like
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: they should bring it to the NIL because this shit,
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: you know what I mean. I was just speaking about
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: this like in the D League at the time. You
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: had three contents. You had an A contract, you had
- 1:13:38Speaker 3: a B contract, and you have a C contract. This
- 1:13:41Speaker 3: is the game. Yeah, two top dogs got the A
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: contract in the A contract with twenty five thousand dollars. Oh,
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: that was the That was the A. The B contract
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: was eighteen to five. The C contract was around fifteen
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: something games.
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: You played a week energy week.
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: Three played three and so me and but Noard King
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: was on the A Contractard King went to Texas A
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: and l boy no, no, no, and then we and
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: then we had our Will Conroy who was doing this
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: thing at USC. He was he had Washington now he's
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: at USC. He was a teammate of mine, right and
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: he was a point guard. So Will and I used
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: to bump his all time because he thought he should
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: be playing more than me. But he just made each
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: other better, you know what I'm saying. And when I
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: get called up, he will start. But when I come back,
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: I get my spot back, and it will always call
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: friction because he'll be hooping, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: But I coach at the time, coach myers when it
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: be like, oh, we're gonna ease you back in. I
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: was like, now you can, You're coming back. You just
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: get your spot right now. Yeah, so it called out.
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: I only made twenty five thousand my first year as
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: a professional, first of all player. Then I went to
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: Italy and made the thirty five. So my man, I'm
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: looking at I made like seventy thousand, a little bit
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: and some change my my first year is profession athlete.
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: And so I was like, man, I'm not going back
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: over whatever it is. But I'm just saying, but I
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: mean other money besides that, we have we have bonuses. Though,
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: I have bonuses in my in, my in, my thing,
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: so yeah I have I have bonuses and stuff like
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: if I score a certain mound points. I got like
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: this because Europe is different, get bonuses. So I told
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: my part I ain't going back overseas.
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: What was your I mean, what was the difference stuff?
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: What you mean lifestyle? And I was home. I couldn't
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: understand nothing.
- 1:15:30Speaker 6: Nobody was saying to Italy, Oh yeah me either. What's
- 1:15:33Speaker 6: the game, Like, huh, the game?
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: The game is very strategic. The game is very strategic.
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: They wanted to be a playmaker, like they want they
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: really want me to be a point guard. Oh okay,
- 1:15:48Speaker 3: but I'm a points guard. Points I got points, and
- 1:15:54Speaker 3: I usually get frustrated because would be losing. They put
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: me in the game and I scored quick fifteen, then
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: they take me the game. I'm like, yo, I'm on fire,
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: Why do you take me out the game? They'll go
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: back and so I would be like, you know what
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: I'm saying, he playing like with me? So I never
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: I didn't fit Europe, but I played euro League like
- 1:16:16Speaker 3: we lost in the final. For I played on some
- 1:16:18Speaker 3: good teams, but I was like, like, y'all put me
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: in the game when we down, and then when we
- 1:16:23Speaker 3: when I get us back in the game, y'all take
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: me out. Ye who was the cold that you saw
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: over there when he was across the water Bell and Nelly?
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: Nelly?
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: He was the person he played and then the other
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: one was the other one was.
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: He was playing in New Orleans about ten screens?
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: What's the one that? And the big man who got
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: drafted by Toronto first round? Nelly Yanni was the other one.
- 1:16:49Speaker 3: I played him in Italy was nice, but in Spain, Spain,
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: my teammate was talking to Iago splitter y'all, so we lost.
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: So that was the year I won, so people don't
- 1:17:03Speaker 3: even realize I won a D League championship with the
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: Colorado fourteeners.
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: I left them, so it's me.
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: Colorado fourteen. They got better, but I had Sonny Wims
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: on my team, so we were We had an NBA
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: team like Sernie Hamilton was on that team. You probably
- 1:17:31Speaker 3: play against Vernon Dam so we always team. We we
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: ran through. We end up beating Salt Lake City Stars
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: in the championship two days. Two days later, I'm in
- 1:17:41Speaker 3: Spain playing for the U League Championship and then we
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: end up losing in the final four, and then we
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: end up losing to Barcelona in the A C B Championship.
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: So I could have tried to win three championships in
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: one year. That's fine, But back to like my first
- 1:17:56Speaker 3: year after I came back from Italy, I'm not going
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: back to Europe. So I ended up playing Summer League
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: with the Rockets. I should have got MVP of Summer League,
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: but technically I wasn't a rookie because I played so
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: Randy Foy that year is when Nate Nate went crazy
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: in that and then Randy Foyd was a rookie that
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: year with men of Minnesota. I averaged twenty eight, eight
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: and eight in summer with the Houston Rockets. Guess who
- 1:18:21Speaker 3: my coach was, your dad? No, I guess you. My
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: coach was Tom Thibodeau. Tims read every play for me.
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: If you know Timms, if he like you, you're gonna
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: get every play call.
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: Every play I had angle, I had side pick and roll.
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: Everything was me coming off the pig into all my
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: sweet spots and he said, if you see the rim,
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: you let it go.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: Ti.
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: I had Pat Carroll who played for He was on
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: my team, so I got a lot of from him.
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: And then if you look like people you've been with.
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: Tim tis my favorite coach Till. I love coaches like Tills,
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: my favorite. My best career is in the NBA was
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: coaches that fell unneath the same unbro So Tills, Ben
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: Gundhi and Stan Benga.
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: They are all the same. They wanted the same.
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: They wanted played for Jeff Yep Houston. Jeff was my
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: coach and then Tims was my workout guy. So every
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: day I worked out with Tills.
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: They wanted the same.
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: Every day until y'all me step some court and I
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: had to move to the side and it was time
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: for y'all mean to get his work. But yeah, ray
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: for Austin load. They wanted, you know, we so Tims
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: ended up coaching something league. I aver twenty eighty eight.
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: I signed my contract in the bathroom. I signed a
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: three year contract from one point nine. And that ain't
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: that's bro, That's no bread.
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: From what point you're just trying to get.
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: That's no bread. It's bread, but it's no bread. But
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: at the time, you know, I'm like, you're trying not
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: to go back. I should have won the New Orleans
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: I should have been Chris Paul Backer. What they wanted
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: to do was I should have just left to see
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: Houston when I was got three for three. It was
- 1:20:07Speaker 3: too much.
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: He was in love. He was in love with being
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: at home.
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: I'm home.
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: That was a great time in Houston.
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: It was a great Timmy. I'm I'm the prince of
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: the city, like you know, out every night.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: In the president of city, pent.
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: City, being like Jesse. Imagine, like I don't know about
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: three to have about night clubs. I don't go to clubs,
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: but I was him.
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: I was him before everybody saying week in the bitch
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: on uh.
- 1:20:50Speaker 3: You know, just some heat. You know, I keep trying
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: to tell you. It was crazy and we had a
- 1:20:57Speaker 3: good team.
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: Though.
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: Color the which one of.
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: The Kobe your phone, you could be sick of it.
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: It was blue.
- 1:21:03Speaker 4: It was like.
- 1:21:05Speaker 3: It was blue blue. It was like the different. It
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: was different. You know, you know I can tell you exactly.
- 1:21:18Speaker 3: Let me show you step back.
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: Was coming on that one.
- 1:21:25Speaker 3: Color right that coming on that? How was going left?
- 1:21:28Speaker 6: I see the feed, I was going left, say man,
- 1:21:31Speaker 6: shout out to the fourteen I had.
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: I had a nice little hairline. Then it just disappeared
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: one day disappeared.
- 1:21:37Speaker 5: So you're going from Houston and now you got to
- 1:21:41Speaker 5: make your way in the NBA. You know, you signed
- 1:21:42Speaker 5: your three year deal. You're back at the city. What's
- 1:21:45Speaker 5: that journey like.
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: In Houston?
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: I mean you get you get to Houston, you got
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: your three year deal.
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: Man.
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: I stayed at my parents' house.
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: You ain't the only one.
- 1:21:55Speaker 3: Like my dad was like, you ain't gonna get no spot.
- 1:21:56Speaker 3: I was like looking for places. He was like, no,
- 1:21:59Speaker 3: you gonna stay right here. You're gonna say you're gona
- 1:22:02Speaker 3: say right here. I'm gonna stack your money up.
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: I had girls and my mom and daddy when I
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: moved back then, No, I just.
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: You know, hotel room about two hundreds, you know, yeah,
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: you know, you know I probably got a little paper
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: in my podcasting forty he going to a trap house,
- 1:22:21Speaker 3: but I got but my dad was. But the thing is,
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: my dad I didn't realize. He was like, bro, you
- 1:22:29Speaker 3: ain't really making money like that because taxes and everything
- 1:22:32Speaker 3: come in. It was like, you just stay at the house,
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: your mama cook every night. We ain't gonna bother you.
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: We I don't give it them when you come home,
- 1:22:40Speaker 3: no matter if you come home. And now you've grown.
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: But he was like, you stack your braid. So what
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: I used to do with my my first check, I
- 1:22:46Speaker 3: used to keep a check and then I send a
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: check to my financial. I keep a check, send the
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: next check to my financial. So it's just like I
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: was the Thacond. But my habit was out by jewelry.
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:22:59Speaker 3: Like my thing was like I was like, okay, I'm
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: gonna get a new change. So my dad was like
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: he'll let me make those mistakes. He was, Oh, you
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: got a new chain, Oh you got a new watch.
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: I ain't got a new bracelet. Like he just kept
- 1:23:11Speaker 3: it was okay, like he'd just let me, you know,
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: because he was like he's gonna everybody got to go
- 1:23:17Speaker 3: through them. But he was like it was a teaching lesson.
- 1:23:20Speaker 3: But I'm thinking, like I'm doing good saving. But then
- 1:23:23Speaker 3: when you go to jew or you see a new
- 1:23:24Speaker 3: chain you want and you try to trade in your
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: chain and it's the same change you just brought frohim
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: like two weeks ago, but he trying to knock off
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: three thousands of the price. So I was like, the
- 1:23:33Speaker 3: value di, So you just learned as you go. My
- 1:23:35Speaker 3: path is like everything my pops did for me was
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: a learning lesson. I called it. I call him the
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: blueprint is definitely, I call him the blueprint. But yeah,
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: I stayed home. And how long did you stay home?
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: You stayed home years? I stayed I got there. I
- 1:23:51Speaker 3: stayed two years. And then they fired Jeff. They brought
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: in recounted me, and we brought back Steve Francis, We
- 1:24:01Speaker 3: brought back Mike James, old school Mac James, and then
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: we had then we just drafted Aaron Brooks, we had
- 1:24:09Speaker 3: we had myself, we had Rafael Austin.
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: Shot the world with you.
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: So then we had seven point guards all in the
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: guaranteed contracts, so I and so I tried to get cut.
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: I was like, I'm gonna go play for another team,
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: but they owe me like seven hundred, but they wanted
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: me to give money back, and my daddy always told me,
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: don't get no money back. So I just went into
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: training camp and I just played my heart out like
- 1:24:37Speaker 3: I was about to change their minds. They just brought
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: back Steve Francis before me and gave Mike James for me,
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: and then they trying to trade Ray for Austin. They
- 1:24:46Speaker 3: drafted Aaron Brooks, you know what I'm saying. So it
- 1:24:48Speaker 3: was like I went in there and then I had
- 1:24:50Speaker 3: a hell of preseason and they kept me all the
- 1:24:52Speaker 3: way to the end, and Rick Adaman was trying to
- 1:24:54Speaker 3: figure out a way to keep me on because I
- 1:24:56Speaker 3: actually was playing football and I just got first D
- 1:25:00Speaker 3: and when they cut me, I was still getting paid,
- 1:25:03Speaker 3: and I was just like, you know what, I'm going
- 1:25:07Speaker 3: to enjoy the holidays. So I enjoyed Thanksgiving, Christmas and
- 1:25:13Speaker 3: New Year's and then I was itching to play. And
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: then that's why I called my agents, Okay, I'm ready
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: to go play, and so I did my second stint
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: in Europe with a euro League team called Benetton. It's
- 1:25:24Speaker 3: not there anymore. It was in Treviso and Reach Games
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: was a teammate of mine, Royo Austin, and then Lionel
- 1:25:33Speaker 3: Charmers was a teammate of mine who I went against
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: in Minnesota and Minnesota. Yeah, so it was just like that,
- 1:25:39Speaker 3: and then we ain't gonna talk about that situation. But
- 1:25:43Speaker 3: I ended up leaving that situation. I got picked up
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: by the Seattle SuperSonics. But the way I left in
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: Italy that held my release papers. So I took my
- 1:25:52Speaker 3: physical on everysteine to play the last year with the
- 1:25:54Speaker 3: Seattle SuperSonics, which was Jeff Green and Kd's year, and yeah,
- 1:26:02Speaker 3: I'm about to run out on the court and Sam
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: Precy pulled me to his side, said they won't. They
- 1:26:07Speaker 3: won't give us your release paper. So they end up
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: signing the boy from your hometown, Eddie Gill Little.
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: Oh he's talking about he worked with he worked with
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: the patients.
- 1:26:18Speaker 3: But Eddie, they end up and Eddie Gill got that
- 1:26:21Speaker 3: get them last thirty days when I was supposed to
- 1:26:23Speaker 3: get that cost me, Like I'm being at least to
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: seventy five three. So then then okay See and then
- 1:26:31Speaker 3: Seattle end up moving to ok See and I ended
- 1:26:34Speaker 3: up playing on ok See team.
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: Yeah, listen, mate, I had a couple of great So
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: we got to ask you a couple before we get
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: out of here. Let's talk about the Bulls situation in Chicago. Obviously,
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: great weekend, Honor and d Rose. I wasn't playing in
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: the city of Chicago, man, best city ever.
- 1:26:50Speaker 5: It ain't the best city ever, but it's really nice
- 1:26:53Speaker 5: for basketball Indianapolis.
- 1:26:55Speaker 4: Don't let them.
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: Actually, it's nothing like walking on the same hallway Jordan's
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: and Pipping and all them walk in every night. And
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: then it sold out that you yeah what I'm saying,
- 1:27:07Speaker 3: and it so and it sold out every game and
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: we was the number one team in the NBA.
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: I killed y'all though, but y'all, we still.
- 1:27:15Speaker 3: Won the battle. You know what I'm saying. I whole award.
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: We want, we want everything about it. We want everything.
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: But like we they almost they almost had us in
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: the playoffs. They almost had us in the playoffs. Shout
- 1:27:31Speaker 3: out to Smooth. We used to love with Smooth made
- 1:27:34Speaker 3: his first shot because we was like, oh, he gonna
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: take away Jeff's shots. He's gonna take away Johnson shot
- 1:27:41Speaker 3: because he gonna think he owns. And that's what happened
- 1:27:44Speaker 3: in the playoffs, end up being all game six and
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: when he hit that first shot in Atlanta in that
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: game six, we was all on the bench. Oh yes,
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: we got him. We got him, man. But I'm just
- 1:28:00Speaker 3: saying he would be he would be owned. So you know,
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: as any score would be. You see your you see
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: the ball going, you're gonna think you own. But now
- 1:28:06Speaker 3: you're taking shots because Jeff and Joe, Jeff and Joe
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: was cooking us. That's that that's serious. Was it was playing.
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: It was playing great basketball. But we just had we
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: had Pod and and and who would do some humble
- 1:28:21Speaker 3: you know that's m v P year. He did.
- 1:28:24Speaker 5: What like like, you know, you've been a part about
- 1:28:28Speaker 5: some you've been around Kobe, He's been on some great players.
- 1:28:31Speaker 5: When before damn d Rose got hurt, before you got hurt, Like,
- 1:28:36Speaker 5: where did you rank him?
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: Like what did you see? Because niggas was scared of him?
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: Oh bro, we had we used to have this thing
- 1:28:42Speaker 3: called the Rose flew. People was ducking him. Oh god,
- 1:28:46Speaker 3: some of your favorite players was ducking him. I'm gonna
- 1:28:48Speaker 3: say that in the camp, some of your favorite players
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: that was dunking him ship and we've seen him. I
- 1:28:52Speaker 3: ain't gonna say no names because he's all colleagues, but we,
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: like we'll be we used to mess with like the
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: other point guards on the team, because you know, sometimes
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: he'd be playing sometimes, you know, we'd be like, oh
- 1:29:02Speaker 3: he playing today? Are he playing today? We just warm
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: up seeing that, and all of a sudden, like we
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: get to report before the game start, so and so
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: out with an ankle injury. But we just saw him
- 1:29:12Speaker 3: work out a full workout before the game. Nobody, kids,
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: you not, nobody wanted to smoke with that man. The
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: kids today not even gonna realize how much of an impact,
- 1:29:26Speaker 3: but how good d Rose wasivable. He was unbelievable and
- 1:29:31Speaker 3: he practiced hard.
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: Do you think job Moran is comparable.
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: No, he was unbelievable, specially.
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: Job specially two different. I see the similarities and certain thing,
- 1:29:44Speaker 3: but I don't think you can compare anybody him at
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: that time. Animal, I'm just I'm night in and night
- 1:29:52Speaker 3: out practice every day seeing it.
- 1:29:55Speaker 5: You know, you just and at that time, no disrespect
- 1:29:58Speaker 5: to the point guards. Now, it was just like a
- 1:30:00Speaker 5: elite level of point guard.
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: Yeah, Will, everybody is every point guard was called rando
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: CP Steve nash Will, like he said, every team point
- 1:30:10Speaker 2: guard was just nasty, nasty.
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: It was like you had young Kimball, Brandon Jennings.
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: Separated yourself just from everybody.
- 1:30:16Speaker 4: He was just he just.
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: But you had.
- 1:30:23Speaker 3: You know, you just it was just he was like
- 1:30:26Speaker 3: it was just he was different and you could tell
- 1:30:29Speaker 3: how this you know, it was crazy how the city was,
- 1:30:31Speaker 3: how the city showing him love for this, what we're
- 1:30:34Speaker 3: what we're out here for Jesse. Imagine he brought that
- 1:30:38Speaker 3: energy they're giving him now, he brought that every night
- 1:30:41Speaker 3: because he wasn't gonna let the city down. Yeah, he
- 1:30:44Speaker 3: did it more than just for him and his family.
- 1:30:46Speaker 3: He did it for the for the shot.
- 1:30:48Speaker 5: Playing against him at that time, like I had guard
- 1:30:52Speaker 5: like all the fire point guard at this time, and
- 1:30:56Speaker 5: like him, it was just like this nigga just got
- 1:30:59Speaker 5: a different gear, Like I wasn't scared of nobody playing basketball.
- 1:31:04Speaker 5: Was like I wasn't scared of him, Like I played
- 1:31:06Speaker 5: him in high school. And then you get every they
- 1:31:09Speaker 5: used to run his forehead play. They run it every
- 1:31:12Speaker 5: time down You're like what the fuck and he just
- 1:31:15Speaker 5: never stopped you. He missed two shots, like yeah, motheruck,
- 1:31:19Speaker 5: he can't shoot the next four possessions. He's attacking you
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: like he never quit, Like like yo, this that's why
- 1:31:27Speaker 5: I tell you to guard Steph. I didn't guard Kyrie.
- 1:31:30Speaker 5: I didn't guard you name.
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: Him see will cp he Rose was the most like
- 1:31:38Speaker 2: he was crazy, bro. I'm like, yeah, this niggad different?
- 1:31:42Speaker 4: Who next in line?
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: Though?
- 1:31:44Speaker 3: He got here?
- 1:31:45Speaker 4: Who you got next on?
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: Like who?
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: I just couldn't stand the guard because it was just
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: like Steph is annoying because he's not.
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: Even like a point. He like throw the ball and
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: then he started running Kyrie.
- 1:31:57Speaker 4: Kyrie.
- 1:31:58Speaker 5: Kyrie is like guarding a two guard like Guard and
- 1:32:01Speaker 5: Kobe Bryant. He gonna post you up, He's gonna do
- 1:32:03Speaker 5: all that stuff. But like I rather guard Kyrie because
- 1:32:06Speaker 5: I know where he gonna catch the ball. Like d Rose,
- 1:32:10Speaker 5: he bringing the ball up, getting a pick and roll.
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: He might call pick and roll off. He might I
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: sow you know, like you didn't know.
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: And it was all like attacking, like Kyrie might jab
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: you jabby three and if you three, you can test
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: you just got.
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: To live with it. The Rose wants you no threes.
- 1:32:26Speaker 3: He was getting. He was straight at you like you
- 1:32:29Speaker 3: north to south.
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: You either go on getting a foul or you're getting
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: scored on it. And then Westbrook was kind of like similar.
- 1:32:36Speaker 2: The only thing that held Westbrook back is like he
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: had k D and James at this time, and it's
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: like not holding back, but you knew like he had
- 1:32:45Speaker 2: to at some point in time.
- 1:32:47Speaker 5: These two guys touched the rock. Rose had that Lou
- 1:32:52Speaker 5: was gonna cut. He was finding all them. Nobody had
- 1:32:55Speaker 5: no set plays. It was just really d ro is
- 1:32:58Speaker 5: gonna make the place for everybody else.
- 1:33:00Speaker 3: But he was, Yeah, he was, and you know it
- 1:33:02Speaker 3: made us so good that we had great players, but
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: everybody knew they wrong. We all accepted that.
- 1:33:08Speaker 7: Bro.
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: I knew I wasn't gonna play with c J. And
- 1:33:11Speaker 3: d Rose was healthy, you know, but I had to
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: stay ready because tims were always because of my shooting ability.
- 1:33:17Speaker 3: He'll throw me in at the two guard to spread
- 1:33:19Speaker 3: the court out, and now my guy would go help
- 1:33:21Speaker 3: d Rose because he's drawing some more attention kick out
- 1:33:23Speaker 3: of me. So you always had this even though I knew, like, okay,
- 1:33:26Speaker 3: they're healthy, I might not play today, so but I
- 1:33:29Speaker 3: was just.
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: I was just.
- 1:33:32Speaker 3: I always wanted to be one of the one percent.
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: Happen when Lebron jumped over you. I don't know how
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: I got to that, because that's all I have.
- 1:33:46Speaker 6: I was gonna slide to my nigga transitioning from basketball
- 1:33:50Speaker 6: to coaching.
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: We're here, I mean you woke up. That ship was
- 1:33:59Speaker 3: everywhere about like I'm being the Hall of Fame every time.
- 1:34:05Speaker 3: I don't fame every time the playoffs start, and I'm
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: cool with it.
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: Three is what was you thinking?
- 1:34:11Speaker 3: I wasn't thinking. I ain't see it happen until until
- 1:34:14Speaker 3: we called time out and they put it on the jumper.
- 1:34:16Speaker 3: Why didn't you electric slide to the left because of
- 1:34:18Speaker 3: rip him? I can't wait for him to get here,
- 1:34:22Speaker 3: that's yeah, because it was ripped guy. Yeah, he was
- 1:34:25Speaker 3: supposed to drop back. I called to pick out. He
- 1:34:27Speaker 3: supposed drop back. He supposed to be the low man.
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: But you know we so defensively minded. Tips. Okay, you
- 1:34:33Speaker 3: got caught up on the screen, so let me. I
- 1:34:35Speaker 3: gotta take your spot, and that goofy ass play. They
- 1:34:37Speaker 3: still running to this day. Mario, who is one of
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: my really good friends man. When he did that, I
- 1:34:42Speaker 3: he talked to him for like two days he could.
- 1:34:45Speaker 3: I didn't talk to him. It was he jumped and
- 1:34:49Speaker 3: when I when I look, I'm like, dn, who he
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: throwing that too?
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: And then like that.
- 1:34:54Speaker 3: But that is my mind, so I'm like, yo, who
- 1:34:55Speaker 3: he throwing that to? And when I when I looked
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: up and you see me like this, all I see
- 1:34:59Speaker 3: is and I'm like, he dunted it, and he had
- 1:35:02Speaker 3: a nerve to look back at it. So my mind
- 1:35:06Speaker 3: she was like, yo, here, you'll tee the ball. I'm
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: gonna run. I'm gonna run down and get a bucket.
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: But Tims called a timeout. So now when Tim's call
- 1:35:14Speaker 3: So now when Tim's call a time out, we're sitting.
- 1:35:18Speaker 3: Now Tim's in the middle with Andy and all them,
- 1:35:20Speaker 3: and now they got it going over the jumble like
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: and Miami. You know, they were all white at the game.
- 1:35:27Speaker 3: So you're looking up and it's all white and it
- 1:35:29Speaker 3: is Oh, they're going crazy, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:35:32Speaker 3: I'm like, and then he sucked me out.
- 1:35:36Speaker 10: If he wasn't, if he watched the time I'm about
- 1:35:41Speaker 10: to get back in the game, he put pull back
- 1:35:43Speaker 10: in the game, so I ain't really get my look
- 1:35:47Speaker 10: back into.
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: Two weeks later today came here. But what saved me
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: was like two days later. That's when because I was
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: number one for like a lot until until Blake Griffin
- 1:35:59Speaker 3: don't don't Kendrick Perkins and throw the ball man, and
- 1:36:02Speaker 3: then he became No. One and I slid. Yeah, but
- 1:36:08Speaker 3: that's what's saying.
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: For the show.
- 1:36:11Speaker 3: Yeah, but when that happened, Bro, I could like, and
- 1:36:13Speaker 3: now you're like people like you know you got don't
- 1:36:15Speaker 3: know my lebron like you. It's Jason Serry's a lot
- 1:36:17Speaker 3: of y'all in that.
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: Iconic.
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: That's because clear bro he did, but he boomed up.
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: It got it got to the point in that game
- 1:36:33Speaker 3: I thought he was picking on me. Bro First he
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: jumped over me, right, and then I'm picking up full court.
- 1:36:38Speaker 3: He set up screen on me. I thought it was
- 1:36:39Speaker 3: le I tried to fight him. I got up to
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: fight him.
- 1:36:43Speaker 2: I got to slip you feel like I feel about Broo.
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: I just said I can't be Yeah, it's like I'm
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: taking him out.
- 1:36:52Speaker 3: I just ran it.
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: He went to the stands popcorn.
- 1:36:55Speaker 6: That's what happened when niggas get embarrassed on the court.
- 1:36:57Speaker 6: They trying to play extra hard.
- 1:37:04Speaker 3: Nah, bro, I give you not. He said a pick
- 1:37:06Speaker 3: on me. It was a legal screen like once you
- 1:37:08Speaker 3: go back and watch it. But I was just like,
- 1:37:10Speaker 3: oh he picked. I got a little man syndron boat
- 1:37:13Speaker 3: like I feel like, like I ain't never gonna let
- 1:37:15Speaker 3: nobody talk to get Like he's been around me, so
- 1:37:18Speaker 3: he's seen he's seen a different side of me. So
- 1:37:22Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, he gotta see me now. So it's
- 1:37:25Speaker 3: like I'm trying to get up, but it's wet on
- 1:37:27Speaker 3: the court, so I'm slipping his slide and trying to
- 1:37:29Speaker 3: get to him. And when I pushed him, he didn't
- 1:37:32Speaker 3: move and I went back and so now I'm like,
- 1:37:36Speaker 3: oh ok. All I said was like, oh, let it
- 1:37:39Speaker 3: be an NBA fight. Let everybody like, let everybody come
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: in the middle and break it up, and then I'm
- 1:37:45Speaker 3: gonna turn up. Oh you like that. And that's what
- 1:37:48Speaker 3: happened because gets it ran over the room quick and
- 1:37:51Speaker 3: like and like uh ma bo charmers who like get
- 1:37:56Speaker 3: off me, like you know what I'm saying, Like, man,
- 1:37:58Speaker 3: I got that unchecked. I was hot, but I was
- 1:38:04Speaker 3: just like, oh you got and then two weeks later
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: they came back, and for like a whole two weeks,
- 1:38:08Speaker 3: I was just kept seeing there. Yeah, like Poo's one
- 1:38:12Speaker 3: of my bits, like one of my really good friends,
- 1:38:15Speaker 3: like he know how me and Pool. So Pool was
- 1:38:18Speaker 3: really supposed to come back that game when we played
- 1:38:20Speaker 3: Miami here and I knew if he came back. I
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: called him on the phone. I said, Yo, gee, you
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: gotta sit out this game. And he was like what
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: because he was itching to get back. You know, he
- 1:38:35Speaker 3: missed like fos this game. I think he had turf
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: toward it was something one of the injuries that I said, bo,
- 1:38:40Speaker 3: this game, sit out. I gotta get my lick back.
- 1:38:45Speaker 3: Like you don't realize what it been like for these
- 1:38:47Speaker 3: two weeks for me, you know what I'm saying. My
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: dad called me talking about that we about to get
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: put in protective custody, and like he called me talking about, damn,
- 1:38:57Speaker 3: you done make the name fame wors than ever, like
- 1:38:59Speaker 3: he met swe me, and so I'm like, I gotta
- 1:39:02Speaker 3: get my lick back, right man, everywhere I was everywhere.
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: So I'm driving down the hallway right here. I lived
- 1:39:09Speaker 3: out north cause we practice out there. I'm driving now
- 1:39:12Speaker 3: it was I g if you if I sit out,
- 1:39:15Speaker 3: you better kill. I said copy like no more man,
- 1:39:19Speaker 3: I had like three red bulls that I was turnt man.
- 1:39:22Speaker 3: I check in the game, it was got I ain't
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: I missed that one shot. I mean the only shot
- 1:39:29Speaker 3: I missed was a wide open corner three. That was
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: the only shot I missed that I had twenty four
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: points National te game. And then I already had in
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: my mind if he because I was gonna cook Mario
- 1:39:39Speaker 3: and I was gonna cook Norse Cou. I did then
- 1:39:45Speaker 3: my guy, but I had one person in mind that
- 1:39:48Speaker 3: I had to get my link back. But those are
- 1:39:49Speaker 3: the guys that was guarding me. But I knew if
- 1:39:52Speaker 3: I cooked, was gonna switch off.
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: Come over there.
- 1:39:57Speaker 3: Fourth quarter, Bron switched off on me and kids calling
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: to play for lou Out. That play went through everyone.
- 1:40:04Speaker 3: All I saw is like that summer because it was
- 1:40:06Speaker 3: lockout here that summer. I was playing in New York,
- 1:40:09Speaker 3: so I was like really working on my game. So
- 1:40:10Speaker 3: that's summer sifty and Nike New York. I heard about
- 1:40:13Speaker 3: that I had sixty the night KD has sixty one.
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: I played in that game at Rutger. I had twenty one.
- 1:40:19Speaker 3: The next night we played him, I had sixty, he
- 1:40:22Speaker 3: had forty nine, but he won. So you know, but
- 1:40:25Speaker 3: I made I made my name in New York as
- 1:40:28Speaker 3: well by going to cool Hand Loo, Cool Hand Lo,
- 1:40:32Speaker 3: Cool Hand Lou the gun Slinger. And so so when
- 1:40:38Speaker 3: we came back, I started working on a double step back.
- 1:40:41Speaker 3: So I was like, I got it. It's almost like you,
- 1:40:43Speaker 3: you know, like a boxer, you gotta get your jab.
- 1:40:45Speaker 3: So to me, a step back is like to get
- 1:40:47Speaker 3: you separation. Because of his length in my size, I
- 1:40:50Speaker 3: knew I had to.
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: I can't let that keep a gang with you. I
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: didn't with.
- 1:40:59Speaker 11: Grace's crazy that that's David and Ca Williams in Friday, Oh.
- 1:41:24Speaker 4: Yo, or.
- 1:41:26Speaker 3: I am a boy, oh my god son. So anyway,
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: I had to go through a double step back because
- 1:41:40Speaker 3: his arm limb right, DJ. So his arm limb so
- 1:41:49Speaker 3: his arm lift DJ. I had because I had to
- 1:41:51Speaker 3: see the rim. So when I hit him with the
- 1:41:54Speaker 3: double and then I hit him him and so then
- 1:41:58Speaker 3: I got my show. And so when I hit the show,
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: I knew what the cameras were. What you do, I said,
- 1:42:02Speaker 3: he can't hold me. It's all facts. Yeah, I said
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: he can't mother fucking hold me either. I look dead
- 1:42:10Speaker 3: in the camera said that he was, and my dad
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: called me, said, you had an out of body experience.
- 1:42:16Speaker 3: He was like, listen, listen. He always humbles you. So
- 1:42:22Speaker 3: he was like, let's keep it a buck. You had
- 1:42:23Speaker 3: an out of body experience. Like you know what I'm saying.
- 1:42:32Speaker 3: He kept the buck with me.
- 1:42:33Speaker 5: So that was I had thirty my first game against
- 1:42:36Speaker 5: high school my senior year against Eric Gordon, and my
- 1:42:40Speaker 5: dad was like, I mean, somebody had to shoot.
- 1:42:45Speaker 3: I coached him too. It's crazy because now coaching, now
- 1:42:48Speaker 3: I'm coaching against guys I want to get into and
- 1:42:51Speaker 3: I play against teammates. Coaching my teammates play against you know.
- 1:42:55Speaker 3: I'm just I always wanted to coach after after I
- 1:42:58Speaker 3: got done, I want.
- 1:42:59Speaker 5: To show love to you because, like we talked about
- 1:43:01Speaker 5: it earlier. But what you did for d Rose people
- 1:43:04Speaker 5: don't know.
- 1:43:04Speaker 6: I know.
- 1:43:06Speaker 5: I know because I was there and you brought when
- 1:43:09Speaker 5: we like not to ship on de Ros because you
- 1:43:11Speaker 5: know he loved him like that. That's my bro, that's
- 1:43:13Speaker 5: my nigga. But when he came to Minnesota, his confidence
- 1:43:17Speaker 5: was gone.
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: He was done.
- 1:43:19Speaker 5: He was telling us he was done with basketball. Yeah,
- 1:43:21Speaker 5: but he was like, I'm done. I'm gonna retire. Tis
- 1:43:24Speaker 5: doing me a favorite kind of thing.
- 1:43:26Speaker 2: And you like, I watched y'all work and put in
- 1:43:28Speaker 2: so much work to where he got back and to
- 1:43:31Speaker 2: the point where I was like, nigga, I need to
- 1:43:33Speaker 2: come off the bench like this.
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: Nigga need to be started. You know what I'm saying.
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: But I watched you and him and his family, like
- 1:43:40Speaker 2: his wife, y'all, are y'all all in the gym. I'm
- 1:43:44Speaker 2: coming late night after drinking doing whatever I'm doing it.
- 1:43:47Speaker 2: Y'all like, come in here. You like till you come
- 1:43:49Speaker 2: in here, pool in here shooting. I'm like, yeah, all right,
- 1:43:53Speaker 2: don't give fuck I come in there. I just see
- 1:43:55Speaker 2: y'all putting in work.
- 1:43:56Speaker 3: And my thing is I wanted him to write his
- 1:43:58Speaker 3: own story and no, don't let nobody else write it
- 1:44:00Speaker 3: for him. Fact and he had a lot left hit him.
- 1:44:03Speaker 3: And when you go through what he's gone through, your
- 1:44:07Speaker 3: mental game. And that's one thing Tennis go back to.
- 1:44:09Speaker 3: Tennis helped me with. But also it also goes back
- 1:44:12Speaker 3: to recovery. My dad's recovered drug and alcoholic. So I
- 1:44:16Speaker 3: used to he used to scare me because I used
- 1:44:19Speaker 3: to scare me. I used to go to a meetings
- 1:44:20Speaker 3: with him. He used to make me standing up like Hi,
- 1:44:23Speaker 3: my name is John Luci third, and everybody like hi
- 1:44:25Speaker 3: John Louser third.
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: Be like I wasn't.
- 1:44:28Speaker 3: Atdeicate anything, but he was just showing me the mind
- 1:44:32Speaker 3: of mental and stuff like that. So I'm looking at Poor,
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: I'm like, bro, you still code like you know who
- 1:44:37Speaker 3: you are, Like I had like kind of reinsuring I'm like,
- 1:44:41Speaker 3: you know, with somebody's confidence and stuff because you like now,
- 1:44:44Speaker 3: I can only imagine playing in today's ere with social media.
- 1:44:48Speaker 3: People always commented about hearing and everything like and you
- 1:44:52Speaker 3: got to learn how to block out the noise. So
- 1:44:55Speaker 3: I'm telling him, like, bro, you you got about five
- 1:44:57Speaker 3: more you like, you can get another big deal like
- 1:45:01Speaker 3: I know you made. I was whit Pool when he
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: signed at eighty nine. Then the next day he signed
- 1:45:05Speaker 3: three hundred and twenty nine with Adder, like I know
- 1:45:07Speaker 3: you got the bread, stupid bread. It was like, fo bo,
- 1:45:10Speaker 3: you got so much more to get to this game.
- 1:45:12Speaker 3: Oh they say you can't shoot, fuck that. We're shooting
- 1:45:15Speaker 3: fifteen hundred shots fact, and we're gonna be we're gonna
- 1:45:19Speaker 3: My goal is for him to shoot over forty percent
- 1:45:21Speaker 3: from the three, and he did in then, So but
- 1:45:23Speaker 3: every night we put that work in. If you ever know,
- 1:45:25Speaker 3: it's in minnesot he starting to elbow shot. So we
- 1:45:28Speaker 3: shot so much right and I'm like, so when he
- 1:45:32Speaker 3: when he hit that fifty ball, he was crying. He
- 1:45:35Speaker 3: came and gave me a hug. That was like the
- 1:45:37Speaker 3: ultimate thing because I'm like, forget what Steven ain't Smith
- 1:45:42Speaker 3: and all what I'm saying. Then ran up and down
- 1:45:44Speaker 3: this court like we ran up and down with I
- 1:45:45Speaker 3: don't know. Yeah, that's a fact, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:45:48Speaker 3: And it's like, no knock on them, but I'm like,
- 1:45:50Speaker 3: they just talking. Yeah, but you gotta you got a
- 1:45:53Speaker 3: chance to prove everybody wrong, which he did and he
- 1:45:57Speaker 3: and he went on and played what six one years
- 1:46:00Speaker 3: after that, and I'm trying to talk. I'm talking to
- 1:46:03Speaker 3: him the same way he rated it, hanging up, but
- 1:46:12Speaker 3: he was.
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: Giving us the same, but I was he won't listen.
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: It was different because.
- 1:46:17Speaker 5: I'm like, like to me, you know, oh seven class,
- 1:46:21Speaker 5: he rolls m v P. When he giving him this spill,
- 1:46:24Speaker 5: I'm like the corner guy like he doing his thing and.
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, get that nigga.
- 1:46:29Speaker 3: Ready right now. He Q, We're gonna be nice the
- 1:46:32Speaker 3: hype man, but in a good way. But he was like,
- 1:46:37Speaker 3: you know, I'm rock with him, like I got his back.
- 1:46:40Speaker 3: Like he was like, I want to come off there.
- 1:46:42Speaker 3: He raises him, looking at him like he crazy, I
- 1:46:44Speaker 3: want to come off the bench. I'm looking at him
- 1:46:46Speaker 3: like huh, I'm just not gonna give him my job now,
- 1:46:49Speaker 3: like if I was playing, I'm like no. But like
- 1:46:52Speaker 3: he wanted to come off the bench because he wanted
- 1:46:53Speaker 3: to go against all the backup. I'm keeping a buck
- 1:46:56Speaker 3: with you. He like he can food him, fool everybody else.
- 1:47:01Speaker 3: He wanted to go against the backup. He ain't want to.
- 1:47:04Speaker 3: He ain't want to guard night in and night out.
- 1:47:06Speaker 3: Guard I did, but you're smarter. But it's smart though.
- 1:47:12Speaker 3: It's smart because it's longevity, like you figure it out.
- 1:47:16Speaker 3: So it was just like for me, I want it
- 1:47:19Speaker 3: all everybody I rock with. I wanted the masses to see.
- 1:47:22Speaker 3: That's and that was my bason. I just want everybody
- 1:47:25Speaker 3: to And.
- 1:47:26Speaker 5: That's why I gravitated because people that I know in
- 1:47:28Speaker 5: my life everybody similar to that, like all of us,
- 1:47:31Speaker 5: we want everybody to win in here. And that's when
- 1:47:34Speaker 5: I gravitated to you, like you don't naturally gravitate people
- 1:47:37Speaker 5: to gravitate the people that you don't rock with, right,
- 1:47:40Speaker 5: you had coaches on that staff where you know me,
- 1:47:42Speaker 5: I wouldn't even you behind the bitch, I'm like, look, man,
- 1:47:46Speaker 5: what the.
- 1:47:46Speaker 3: Fun were running here? Get me in trouble. That's how
- 1:47:51Speaker 3: I get fired. No talking, that's how I get fired.
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: I'm for real.
- 1:47:55Speaker 2: I will really come to the bench because what do
- 1:47:58Speaker 2: you see? And I'll be like, look, what the up?
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: We need to run?
- 1:48:00Speaker 3: And I get fired because now like they're not looking
- 1:48:03Speaker 3: at the main guys, shoot the fucking ball. He'd be
- 1:48:07Speaker 3: wide open. I'll be like Jim said, like fuck him,
- 1:48:13Speaker 3: he'd be wide open. And he was like the defer.
- 1:48:17Speaker 3: I'm like, it's ain't this. Ain't that same kid? I
- 1:48:20Speaker 3: know they get out the challenger. You know what I'm saying, Like,
- 1:48:25Speaker 3: I'm still I'm still thinking like he him like with
- 1:48:28Speaker 3: that mentality, and that's that's like once you give me
- 1:48:31Speaker 3: your first impression, that's who I think you are.
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: But I appreciate that.
- 1:48:34Speaker 4: Yeah, man, we appreciate you.
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: Look, let's show bro obviously. Man, we saw you at
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: the Top hundred camp.
- 1:48:40Speaker 2: We was just like it makes purposes like having your
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: knowledge to help these young youths, especially like you said
- 1:48:45Speaker 2: with the mentals and the social.
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: Media playing basketball at the full part sos have somebody
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: you charge like that.
- 1:48:50Speaker 2: Were really happy to see. Before we get out of here, man,
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: we had a great story in this podcast. We got
- 1:48:54Speaker 2: to reconfirmed, you know. Before we get out of here, man,
- 1:48:56Speaker 2: we gotta talk about the Minnesota man, y'all put up
- 1:48:59Speaker 2: the club shouts some all these they said good in Minnesota,
- 1:49:01Speaker 2: that Google club five twenty.
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: But we gotta get that. We're good.
- 1:49:05Speaker 3: Look, we're always good. We're real good talking about we
- 1:49:08Speaker 3: always the funk with me, we always, we always do it.
- 1:49:16Speaker 3: You always good. Shout for stepping in them, Kirk Franklins,
- 1:49:21Speaker 3: it's tea. I don't even go out. You know, I'm married, you.
- 1:49:28Speaker 4: Know, yeah, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: I don't go out just under the bus.
- 1:49:32Speaker 3: But you know he wasn't you know, he had a
- 1:49:33Speaker 3: bad game that day. Yeah, he had bad games. So
- 1:49:36Speaker 3: we went out to eat. I always go out to
- 1:49:38Speaker 3: eat with the players. I don't go out with the players,
- 1:49:40Speaker 3: but we go eat. I ain't gonna pass up a
- 1:49:41Speaker 3: meal exactly. You know what I'm saying. I'm on the
- 1:49:43Speaker 3: coaching budget.
- 1:49:44Speaker 4: Absolutely, So.
- 1:49:47Speaker 3: So we got to eat. I'm trying to talk and
- 1:49:49Speaker 3: he ready to jump off the ledge. Not literally, but
- 1:49:51Speaker 3: he like mad because of the game he had. So
- 1:49:53Speaker 3: he was like, you know, I just need it. Almost
- 1:49:55Speaker 3: remind me of like that scene and paid him for Hey,
- 1:49:59Speaker 3: I just need be around love. It was like one
- 1:50:02Speaker 3: of them moments. So I was like, he was like, well,
- 1:50:05Speaker 3: we're gonna go out to and so I was like,
- 1:50:07Speaker 3: all right, cool, I'll come out for a little bit.
- 1:50:10Speaker 3: So it's me Jared Baylists, who wore a suit all
- 1:50:13Speaker 3: the time, snow dress. He wore a suit all the time,
- 1:50:16Speaker 3: clean though, right right, And I ain't your normal coach. Like,
- 1:50:21Speaker 3: once I get out my coaching and I'm back, I'm
- 1:50:24Speaker 3: dressed now, Nike, I'm gonna be fly. So he he
- 1:50:28Speaker 3: goes out. So we go out and so you know,
- 1:50:29Speaker 3: all sudden we're just in there chilling in the corner.
- 1:50:32Speaker 3: All of a sudden, like thirty people come walking towards
- 1:50:34Speaker 3: me and they speaking to me in their language. I'm
- 1:50:38Speaker 3: looking at them like what. I guess they ain't like
- 1:50:41Speaker 3: my reaction, so they started getting a little bit hostile
- 1:50:46Speaker 3: with It's just me hum and Jerry.
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:50:48Speaker 3: So see how the bottle right there. I don't even
- 1:50:52Speaker 3: know who bottle it was that I grabbed, but I
- 1:50:54Speaker 3: was just I had a bubble cut on too, So
- 1:50:57Speaker 3: I was like they doing all this time. I just
- 1:51:00Speaker 3: after joint. I'm like, we're gonna get out of there.
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: I gotta get home to my baby, you know. So
- 1:51:05Speaker 3: he doing all I'm woofing back at him like I'm like, bro,
- 1:51:08Speaker 3: I ain't smiling like I'm from Houston, Texas. I ain't
- 1:51:11Speaker 3: from here. And they're like, no, you do, and I'm
- 1:51:14Speaker 3: like no, So what saved us was a whole nother
- 1:51:19Speaker 3: argument happened. A whole nother fight started, and they turned
- 1:51:24Speaker 3: around and turn and all of a sudden, before me
- 1:51:27Speaker 3: and Jeff could turn to walk out the door, we walking, yeah,
- 1:51:31Speaker 3: because I'm like part of my back. I'm like, you know,
- 1:51:33Speaker 3: I ain't really scared of like like whatever going. We
- 1:51:35Speaker 3: see Jared, Jared two blocks away from us, and me
- 1:51:42Speaker 3: and Jeff is like yo, and all you see is
- 1:51:45Speaker 3: them stations at him like he's sliding because it was
- 1:51:47Speaker 3: black ice out there that day, so he running, he
- 1:51:51Speaker 3: like sliding, and I was like, yo, that's curt. I said,
- 1:51:53Speaker 3: that's the last time I go. Like if I go out,
- 1:51:55Speaker 3: he can't come with me because I see I see
- 1:52:00Speaker 3: him all the time and Phoenix when I was coaching
- 1:52:02Speaker 3: with me, he was a man. But that was a
- 1:52:04Speaker 3: crazy night. But I wasn't supposed to be out. I
- 1:52:07Speaker 3: was like, it was his fault.
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: I take the blad, but it is true.
- 1:52:14Speaker 3: But they didn't think they know it's true that Minnesota
- 1:52:19Speaker 3: ship took a toll.
- 1:52:21Speaker 4: Broy be hearing you good.
- 1:52:23Speaker 3: The other niggas they got to check in. But he
- 1:52:32Speaker 3: he messed me all the time because we used to
- 1:52:36Speaker 3: always play one on one and he was coming back
- 1:52:39Speaker 3: from injury one day and I was getting the best
- 1:52:42Speaker 3: of them only for five possessions. Yeah, because I ran
- 1:52:46Speaker 3: out of gas. I'm out of shape, like mentally, I
- 1:52:50Speaker 3: was like done hoopy And they had posted on Twitter
- 1:52:54Speaker 3: at the time. They was like and we and I
- 1:52:56Speaker 3: think you was hurt. Who was hurt? Ties of hurt?
- 1:53:00Speaker 3: So we had to bring a point guard in. So
- 1:53:02Speaker 3: I'm trying to get here ready, I'm not even thinking.
- 1:53:04Speaker 3: It was like, yo, we should bring Luke in for
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: ten day, like that's what the family because it's like, look,
- 1:53:08Speaker 3: what are you doing to Jeff t he gonna tweet
- 1:53:11Speaker 3: back and post another video keep watching like he couldn't
- 1:53:15Speaker 3: let me just have my little fly because after that
- 1:53:20Speaker 3: boy was cook session. Boy I was. I was. It
- 1:53:25Speaker 3: was after that I retweeted the post. Somebody posted like, Okay, yeah,

- 1:53:45Speaker 1: He wanted to do.
- 1:53:45Speaker 3: He wanted the left, he wanted to right. I didn't
- 1:53:48Speaker 3: even touch the ball in the middle of court because
