- 0:01Speaker 1: Thanks. Mike Layne did not mince any words following the
- 0:04Speaker 1: loss to the anaim Docks. Just take us through your
- 0:07Speaker 1: disappointments and your frustration with that four two loss.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Uh. Yeah, I didn't think we were very good in
- 0:11Speaker 2: the first forty minutes. I thought we played better in
- 0:13Speaker 2: the last forty although you know, like I've talked about
- 0:16Speaker 2: in the last couple of weeks, the trend in the
- 0:18Speaker 2: league is when you get a lead, you tend to
- 0:20Speaker 2: sit back and protect it. I thought we did that
- 0:23Speaker 2: a little bit against the Islanders as well, which made
- 0:25Speaker 2: it difficult for them. Or you know, in the third period, Anna,
- 0:29Speaker 2: I'm sat back a little bit allowed us to get
- 0:31Speaker 2: a little bit of momentum going. But the first two
- 0:35Speaker 2: periods we weren't very good. Game's over, it's past history.
- 0:38Speaker 2: We've got to be better today.
- 0:40Speaker 1: You talked a little bit in the past about chasing
- 0:42Speaker 1: leads and chasing teams. Now six times in the last
- 0:45Speaker 1: seven you have faced either a two to nothing or
- 0:47Speaker 1: a two to one deficit. How can you get off
- 0:49Speaker 1: to a better start here tonight and limit those opportunities
- 0:53Speaker 1: from Jersey?
- 0:54Speaker 2: Just focus on getting pucks in behind their knee, making
- 0:57Speaker 2: their defense turn. We turned the puck over too many
- 1:00Speaker 2: times in the first five minutes against Anton, I'm and
- 1:04Speaker 2: when you do that, they transition back and you end
- 1:06Speaker 2: up spending time in your own zone. Not a recipe for.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Success when you're trying to get off to better starts.
- 1:13Speaker 1: As we've talked a lot about, is it a mentality
- 1:16Speaker 1: off the face off? Is it a you know, not
- 1:18Speaker 1: being ready for that opening push from other teams? What
- 1:21Speaker 1: can you point to as maybe a reason why Seattle's
- 1:24Speaker 1: not been able to get off to the type of
- 1:26Speaker 1: starts recently that you would like.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Well, you know, you can couple it with a few
- 1:31Speaker 2: different things. Four times are you know we've let the
- 1:33Speaker 2: first shot in so that doesn't help. You know, we
- 1:37Speaker 2: need to get some saves right off the hop and
- 1:41Speaker 2: you know, build some momentum from there. You know. But
- 1:45Speaker 2: at the end of the day, you know, we have
- 1:47Speaker 2: enough guys in this team, and enough better than guys
- 1:49Speaker 2: in this team that they know that the starts haven't
- 1:52Speaker 2: been good enough and we have to be better.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Probably my last negative question, I promise you here with
- 1:57Speaker 1: the short handed goals cracking them allowed in recent games,
- 2:00Speaker 1: noticed about that on the power and play side of things.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Is it a breakdown, is it a lapse? Is it
- 2:04Speaker 1: something the other teams are doing. Is there something you
- 2:07Speaker 1: can point to as to why the Cracking have allowed
- 2:10Speaker 1: a handful of penalty urber I guess short handed goals
- 2:12Speaker 1: in recent games.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Well, it starts with battles. You know, in those situations,
- 2:17Speaker 2: you're not going to win all the battles. Obviously, pentally
- 2:20Speaker 2: kill teams are going to click blocks out of the zone,
- 2:22Speaker 2: but we've lost some battles and then trying to win
- 2:25Speaker 2: those battles, we're getting trapped and you know they're they're
- 2:31Speaker 2: managing to get themselves in to advantageous situations, whether it
- 2:36Speaker 2: be two on one or a couple of breakaways. So
- 2:39Speaker 2: you know, we just have to be a lot better
- 2:40Speaker 2: in that area. You know, as far as scoring goals
- 2:43Speaker 2: in the power play, we've done very well since December first,
- 2:46Speaker 2: But it's these four shorthanded goals we've given up in
- 2:49Speaker 2: the last few games that seem to be the focus
- 2:52Speaker 2: of everyone, you included, and you know, we have to
- 2:56Speaker 2: eliminate those because other than that, we've had some huge
- 3:00Speaker 2: power pulay goals for us.
- 3:01Speaker 1: My sincerius apologies, you've challenged the top nine forward group
- 3:06Speaker 1: to continue to be better, to pick up their offense.
- 3:08Speaker 1: And now we've seen in recent games the McCanns, the Schwartzes,
- 3:12Speaker 1: even the Duns in the back end, your best players
- 3:14Speaker 1: have been your best players offensively. What have you liked
- 3:17Speaker 1: about those top three forward groups that you've seen here recently.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I've liked spits and pieces of them.
- 3:26Speaker 2: I don't think that I've loved them as much as
- 3:28Speaker 2: you're saying that I should love them. You know, we
- 3:32Speaker 2: have to win those matchups, and I feel like our
- 3:37Speaker 2: top six forwards are getting out shot every night by
- 3:39Speaker 2: their top six forwards, you know. And if you look
- 3:43Speaker 2: at our plus minus, if you look at Chandler's plus
- 3:45Speaker 2: minus and Vince's plus minus, you know, some of those
- 3:48Speaker 2: are obviously empty net goals. But at the end of
- 3:51Speaker 2: the day, we've got to have more out of these guys.
- 3:53Speaker 1: You've got Jersey here tonight. You've seen them five games ago,
- 3:57Speaker 1: so they're fresh in your mind. What do you want
- 3:59Speaker 1: to see downe differently to night than what we saw
- 4:01Speaker 1: there the Rock?
- 4:02Speaker 2: Well, I thought the game itself was an interesting hockey game.
- 4:04Speaker 2: I thought, I think they had just come back from somewhere.
- 4:08Speaker 2: We were in New York, sitting in New York for
- 4:11Speaker 2: a couple of days, and I didn't think it was
- 4:15Speaker 2: an over the energetic hockey game. I thought it was
- 4:18Speaker 2: played pretty hard by both teams, but I thought there
- 4:22Speaker 2: was more. I just really felt like we left something
- 4:24Speaker 2: on the table there, and you know, ended up losing
- 4:28Speaker 2: an overtime on a nice goal by Hesher. But you know,
- 4:31Speaker 2: I just I'd like to see us bring our a game,
- 4:34Speaker 2: that's all, to a man, bring our a game to
- 4:35Speaker 2: let's see what happens
