- 0:03Speaker 2: We're going to be playing some shows here in February
- 0:07Speaker 2: in Australia and New Zealand, celebrating along with the head
- 0:12Speaker 2: Pe Boys. They're celebrating Broke and we're coming off our
- 0:18Speaker 2: twenty fifth anniversary twentieth twenty fifth anniversary shows of Statement
- 0:24Speaker 2: into the Pains, So we're going to have some pieces
- 0:28Speaker 2: of that show coming along with.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Us to Australia.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Fantastic man, thanks for joinning you today. It's a pleasure
- 0:34Speaker 3: to speak with you.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Hey, thanks for having me.
- 0:37Speaker 4: Chris No right, bro.
- 0:38Speaker 3: So, as you say, Non Point return to Australia for
- 0:41Speaker 3: the first time since twenty nineteen early next year, four
- 0:44Speaker 3: run of shows with Headpa, starting in Sydney on the
- 0:46Speaker 3: sixth of February, before hitting Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth and
- 0:49Speaker 3: finishing in Adelaide on the eleventh. So the first question is, mate, like,
- 0:53Speaker 3: twenty nineteen is a long time ago? Why have you
- 0:56Speaker 3: neglected us for so bloody long?
- 0:59Speaker 2: Well, seen, it was after the pandemic. Travel has been
- 1:03Speaker 2: a little wacky since then. We've also uh you know,
- 1:08Speaker 2: gone through uh quite a bit of a of a change,
- 1:13Speaker 2: you know, not only structurally, but you know we we
- 1:16Speaker 2: uh we started our own label.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Uh and and.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Uh with the success of the music that we've been
- 1:23Speaker 2: dropping on that label, H we've we've gotten quite a
- 1:26Speaker 2: bit of of uh opportunity here in the States, and
- 1:31Speaker 2: you know, we we've grown that into uh uh you
- 1:35Speaker 2: know this this lovely little animal now that allows us
- 1:39Speaker 2: to uh venture out uh in in ways that we
- 1:43Speaker 2: were doing on on on our on our major label.
- 1:46Speaker 2: So it's it's uh, it's it's been a great journey
- 1:50Speaker 2: and and we're excited to get back.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Your first store of Australia was a part of soundway
- 1:56Speaker 3: back in twenty ten. Mate, So what are your memories
- 1:59Speaker 3: of your first story?
- 2:00Speaker 4: Was it daunting?
- 2:03Speaker 1: Uh?
- 2:03Speaker 2: It was it was very go, go go, you know,
- 2:07Speaker 2: the the tours there to involve.
- 2:09Speaker 1: A lot of flying and and a lot of travel.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Uh. But I what I do remember is that same
- 2:15Speaker 2: type of you know, uh hanging with the same people,
- 2:20Speaker 2: traveling with the same people.
- 2:21Speaker 1: In other bands. Uh.
- 2:23Speaker 2: So you know, got got to befriend and and and
- 2:27Speaker 2: and uh you know.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Become friendships.
- 2:31Speaker 2: You know, forged some friendships there with with some bands
- 2:35Speaker 2: uh that I never would have expected, uh, you know,
- 2:39Speaker 2: everywhere from Primus to to slip Knot to you know, a.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Million bands in between.
- 2:45Speaker 2: But it was it was a good time, you know,
- 2:47Speaker 2: newfound glory, all those boys from from even back back home.
- 2:52Speaker 2: So it's it definitely was was a great experience and
- 2:57Speaker 2: and and some really fond memories.
- 3:00Speaker 3: And as you said before, mate, you were coming over
- 3:02Speaker 3: with the headpa like, that's an absolute dream touring team
- 3:06Speaker 3: if ever.
- 3:07Speaker 4: I've had one.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Yeah, those guys put on a great show. We're glad
- 3:12Speaker 2: to uh to team up with them again.
- 3:13Speaker 1: The last the last run was really really fun.
- 3:16Speaker 2: So we're gonna definitely do uh be enjoying some some
- 3:20Speaker 2: good times on this one.
- 3:22Speaker 1: No.
- 3:22Speaker 3: I think YouTube bands both sort of cut your teeth
- 3:25Speaker 3: together around the turn of the centry and you've toured
- 3:27Speaker 3: with each other a bit, you had each other's backs,
- 3:29Speaker 3: But what are your memories of those days?
- 3:31Speaker 4: Was it us against the world sort of thing?
- 3:35Speaker 1: Uh?
- 3:35Speaker 2: At that time, it was it was everything was really
- 3:39Speaker 2: really moving in a in a big way.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Uh, there was there was a lot of bands touring
- 3:47Speaker 1: at that time.
- 3:48Speaker 2: The big festivals were were and and the touring festivals
- 3:53Speaker 2: we were really popular, especially with Ozfest and Warped Tour
- 3:57Speaker 2: and and and and festivals like that. Uh So being
- 4:01Speaker 2: a part of that and and being a part of
- 4:04Speaker 2: the the meld of of you know, hip hop and
- 4:07Speaker 2: rock uh that was happening at our time.
- 4:11Speaker 1: That was that was an interesting culture.
- 4:13Speaker 2: That that that you know, uh, you know, a different
- 4:16Speaker 2: type of fan gravitated towards. So so it's it's good
- 4:21Speaker 2: to you know, tour with bands like that, uh that
- 4:24Speaker 2: that you know, share those type of fans and and
- 4:27Speaker 2: and and share that type.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Of show.
- 4:31Speaker 3: That the hip hop rock hardbrid like that that's sort
- 4:33Speaker 3: of stolen metal that you play now was nowhere near
- 4:36Speaker 3: as popular back then, so you can almost say it
- 4:38Speaker 3: was still sort of an experimental phase. But how difficult
- 4:41Speaker 3: was it basically trying to get people listening to something
- 4:44Speaker 3: that new and innovative, like historically people don't like change.
- 4:50Speaker 1: You know.
- 4:50Speaker 2: It was it was just us doing what we felt
- 4:53Speaker 2: like we did well and what our fan base that
- 4:56Speaker 2: that we were growing were responding to. You know, genres
- 5:01Speaker 2: are what they are because it's it's it's definitely those
- 5:04Speaker 2: that it's for the people that have that taste in music,
- 5:08Speaker 2: and uh, you know, we found that niche following and
- 5:12Speaker 2: and and they followed us throughout the years.
- 5:17Speaker 3: You mentioned that hed P celebrate in the twenty fifth
- 5:19Speaker 3: anniversary of their landmark album Broke, So what are your
- 5:23Speaker 3: memories of that album when it came out? What did
- 5:24Speaker 3: you initially think of it?
- 5:26Speaker 2: We were actually did a tour with them when they
- 5:28Speaker 2: were on that that run, so it was it was
- 5:31Speaker 2: a big time for them. Again, it was during that
- 5:34Speaker 2: festival season run and and those boys were we were
- 5:39Speaker 2: definitely moving mountains with Bartender, So it was it was
- 5:44Speaker 2: it was one of the more popular tracks of the
- 5:46Speaker 2: of its time, and and that record was was a
- 5:50Speaker 2: breakout record, especially.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Amongst the other the other bands of that era.
- 5:58Speaker 3: And one point release your debut album Statement in the
- 6:00Speaker 3: same year. So with the two albums similar anyway and
- 6:03Speaker 3: the like, how did that one album for you help
- 6:05Speaker 3: shape the rest of your career.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Uh, well, we had only had an opportunity to listen
- 6:12Speaker 2: to that that album. Just before that, we didn't you know,
- 6:16Speaker 2: that's we had only had about a year and a
- 6:18Speaker 2: half of of of uh head pe So we were
- 6:24Speaker 2: more I guess getting influenced by you know, the earlier.
- 6:32Speaker 1: You know, the Corns, the nine Inch Nails.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Those those types of bands that were coming up and
- 6:38Speaker 2: and even had Peu were relatively new, so we were
- 6:41Speaker 2: only catching their music here and there. It really wasn't
- 6:45Speaker 2: something that, you know, we really got to be inspired
- 6:50Speaker 2: with until we got on tour with those guys.
- 6:54Speaker 4: Do you go a bit deeper into that?
- 6:55Speaker 3: Made like you formed one point with Rob Rivera and
- 6:58Speaker 3: fort Load of Theale back in ninety ninety seven. So
- 7:01Speaker 3: what was a musical climate like around that sound that
- 7:03Speaker 3: gave birth to the band and where did you fit in?
- 7:05Speaker 2: Initially there was the scene down here, there was It
- 7:10Speaker 2: was definitely the rock scene down here was a mix
- 7:14Speaker 2: of a lot of different things.
- 7:16Speaker 1: You know.
- 7:16Speaker 2: We had Latin rock, we had hip hop rock, we
- 7:20Speaker 2: had rap rock, we had like so many different types
- 7:23Speaker 2: of rock that and we all played together. So everybody
- 7:30Speaker 2: was inspiring everybody and there was really no rules to
- 7:36Speaker 2: what anyone was really doing.
- 7:38Speaker 1: We just all kind of dug each other.
- 7:40Speaker 2: And had similar fans, so we were pairing up and
- 7:44Speaker 2: and you know, being inspired.
- 7:49Speaker 3: I actually found something that stretches longer in time than
- 7:52Speaker 3: your last visit to Australia, and that's your last album X.
- 7:55Speaker 3: It came out in twenty eight eight. My look, I
- 7:58Speaker 3: know you probably could ask this a lot better. I'm
- 8:00Speaker 3: asking because I'm interested, Like, is there a reason that
- 8:03Speaker 3: you've stopped writing and releasing new museum like it because
- 8:05Speaker 3: you're happy with your back catalog or you don't think
- 8:08Speaker 3: you can improve on it all.
- 8:09Speaker 1: No, we we released music throughout that time.
- 8:12Speaker 2: We when we went independent, we dropped an EP literally
- 8:15Speaker 2: a year and a half later and out of the pandemic.
- 8:18Speaker 2: So we continue to write music. We just haven't put
- 8:21Speaker 2: out a full length since that time, but we've had
- 8:25Speaker 2: three EPs since.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Okay, okay, it's the plan to get any full length
- 8:29Speaker 3: other the EPs of the way to go these days,
- 8:31Speaker 3: aren't they, like people's attention spans on there for a
- 8:34Speaker 3: whole album.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Well, that's the At the time, we we wanted to
- 8:39Speaker 2: to write a couple of EPs. You know, we had
- 8:43Speaker 2: already written ten records. A lot of people don't get
- 8:45Speaker 2: an opportunity to write ten records in their career, so
- 8:49Speaker 2: you know, it's a case of, you know, are we
- 8:52Speaker 2: going to put out another full length record just for
- 8:56Speaker 2: the sake of putting out another full length or are
- 8:58Speaker 2: we going to wait till we have the.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Right music and then what we decided to do before
- 9:02Speaker 1: I let you.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Go, Bro, I've got a new segment I've started called
- 9:05Speaker 3: photo Bombs. So basically, I've gone through your social media
- 9:07Speaker 3: before you got a chat, I've found a couple of
- 9:09Speaker 3: photos I want to know a little bit more about. Okay,
- 9:12Speaker 3: so the first one arc bound. What was this one? Like?
- 9:20Speaker 3: Coming from someone who will probably never ever get over
- 9:22Speaker 3: to Stonehenge, bro, like, how how awesome is it?
- 9:26Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 9:26Speaker 4: It was?
- 9:27Speaker 1: It was pretty magical.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Stonehenges is an interesting place that that has a lot
- 9:33Speaker 2: of history and and has a lot of uh, it's
- 9:38Speaker 2: it's it's it's different when you're standing right there with
- 9:42Speaker 2: it and you know, knowing how how old it is
- 9:46Speaker 2: and how uh you know, monumental it was for for
- 9:50Speaker 2: the time and and and the time that it is now.
- 9:54Speaker 2: It's it's it's one of those bucket list things that
- 9:57Speaker 2: that you get pretty uh you get it was firing
- 10:01Speaker 2: just being there, just being there.
- 10:03Speaker 4: And that's a band.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Do you make a point of visiting like relics and
- 10:08Speaker 3: things like that if you go around the world just
- 10:10Speaker 3: all the time?
- 10:11Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 10:11Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, we venture out as much as the weather
- 10:13Speaker 1: allows us to.
- 10:16Speaker 2: And you know, in proximity of the venue, but we
- 10:20Speaker 2: definitely like to get out and see the cathedrals and
- 10:24Speaker 2: see the castles and all that good stuff for sure.
- 10:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:27Speaker 3: The second photo I founded a great shot of you
- 10:30Speaker 3: and Chad from mud Vane belting out a song together
- 10:32Speaker 3: a lot.
- 10:33Speaker 4: Do you remember what song you were singing?
- 10:35Speaker 2: Yeah, we were singing a bullet with a name, and
- 10:38Speaker 2: that was during ship Rock.
- 10:41Speaker 1: We were sharing sharing some time together on ship rock.
- 10:47Speaker 2: The hell yeah, boys were on ship rocked and so
- 10:51Speaker 2: we're the noun point guys and chat and I go
- 10:53Speaker 2: back twenty years, twenty plus years and he came out
- 10:58Speaker 2: to join me on that one.
- 10:59Speaker 1: That was that was That was pretty.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Awesome, great fighter be like you can.
- 11:03Speaker 3: You can see the passion, you can see the love,
- 11:05Speaker 3: you can see the respect. Like it pretty much says
- 11:08Speaker 3: it all in one photo.
- 11:09Speaker 4: I love it.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, no doubt. He is definitely a brother.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Wait, all right, well thanks for your time today. Your
- 11:16Speaker 3: life has been absolute pleasure speaking with you. One point
- 11:19Speaker 3: will be in Australia in February with Headpe and I
- 11:22Speaker 3: can tell you made the buzz on the street is
- 11:24Speaker 3: people are so fucking keen to see you, mate, Like
- 11:27Speaker 3: it's good to see he's coming back.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Yeah, we're excited.
- 11:30Speaker 2: We're going to bring a we're going to be bringing
- 11:32Speaker 2: a whole new show with us, so we're excited to
- 11:34Speaker 2: play it for uh, for Australian fans,
