- 0:00and just before we started recording Dan you mentioned something about like home
- 0:04alone and have you ever noticed that the bandits names look quite sexual in
- 0:08nature you got the wet Bandits and the sticky Bandits it's a
- 0:15show well you know the name they were called the wet Bandits because they used
- 0:19to leave the Taps on right it wasn't you know but then they became the sticky
- 0:23Bandits because he he had a sticky hand sticky tape no he put sticky tape on his
- 0:27head okay I foret that's the one with Trump right it is no they removed him
- 0:33remember there was a whole thing about it oh yes yeah dig removed some of our
- 0:38favorite films have had some stuff added into them but we can talk about that
- 0:41later on have they there you go I love it when they do that I'm not saying that
- 0:46Home Alone 2 isn't one of your favorite films saw of the movies along with uh
- 0:53Edward hands double feature oh that's a good double feature I Christmas movies
- 0:58yeah I got did a I can give you a mcau culan double feature I went two on I saw
- 1:03Uncle Buck oh yeah and Hunt Hunt for Red October as a double
- 1:08feature is M cin in Hunt for Red October no he's in Uncle Buck oh okay no no no
- 1:14I'm sorry you did say m no just to toe to what Matt was saying I know because I
- 1:20just I was just he's not in Edward S hands either so he
- 1:27possibly I don't know the submarine welcome to multiple
- 1:33nerdgasm with your hosts Matt Luke and
- 1:37Dan multiple nerdgasm your guide to All
- 1:43Things [Music]
- 1:49nerdy do you remember Hunt for Red October do you remember the the the
- 1:53audacious device cinematic device they use to make sure no one I was going to
- 1:58mention that this podcast episode anyway what yeah I was literally going to
- 2:03mention exactly that thing that you're talking about so what go on then fine I
- 2:07watched what is it I watched Mission Impossible dead reckoning this week the
- 2:11latest Mission Impossible I didn't get to see it in the theaters even though I
- 2:14wanted to I finally watched it it's just it's a two hours of a bike jumping a
- 2:19kasm it's three hours of a bike doing what it's three hours of the bike does
- 2:24that in the middle and then they sticky taped some plot to either side of it so
- 2:30um but at the beginning of it it opens on a Russian submarine called the saster
- 2:36pole where it's not the same as Hunt for Red October because in Hunt for Red
- 2:40October they zoom in on the mouth of the person speaking Russian and then it
- 2:44switches to English and then it zooms back out it's Tom Cruz movie so they
- 2:48they zoom in on the nose well no they zoom in on a key that
- 2:53is that is a featuring thing in and then and then the languages just start in
- 2:58Russian with with subtitles and then and it's switches to English and I was like
- 3:01yeah it's such a good device that they stole it is it is because yeah it's
- 3:05totally stolen it's good I can see why yeah but also I can also see why
- 3:10everyone just doesn't do that because that would become a cliche that we were
- 3:14tired of very very quickly yeah but uh it works it makes more sense because it
- 3:20says audience we understand you don't speak Russian and that this movie needs
- 3:25to be in English you are far too late and we know you're far too lazy to read
- 3:30the entire that's right however we want you to know that we know that these
- 3:34people should be speaking Russian right it's not that we think they speak
- 3:38English all right this is one of those movies where we're not aware that people
- 3:41in other countries might speak a different language the funny thing is so
- 3:44I was um I was working at World movies Channel years ago and you know you take
- 3:49for granted I guess because we're native English speakers and I mean speaking for
- 3:53myself that's the only language I speak right but see when in movies you see yeah
- 4:00in movies where you see people go to other countries and have other people
- 4:03speak to them in English I've encountered that enough that when I see
- 4:06that in movies it makes enough sense to me right but then when I would watch
- 4:11French movies where they would go to Japan and all the Japanese people would
- 4:13just speak to the main characters in French I was like it is silly yeah that
- 4:18seems very unlikely well I have noticed that other countries
- 4:25do make an effort to try and cater for other languages like even in Japan when
- 4:30you go there and there's like pictures of the food and stuff like that and make
- 4:35it very easy I went to Boger King and they saw was and they pulled out like a
- 4:39menu for me so I could point at it easy yeah we got a very easy one in
- 4:45Australia it's just not yeah as long as you're not a dick then yeah you you get
- 4:50you can speak English most places in the world and most places too if you if you
- 4:54try if you learn please thank you and hello you use that and then switch back
- 4:59into your dumb Australian they will go okay well you tried so we'll also try
- 5:04yeah exactly it's when you talking louder at them you you in their own
- 5:09accent that's what my dad used to do um you guys will remember though in in
- 5:13France when I got myself into trouble by trying to speak to a that's right a
- 5:18beggar in French um you told you didn't speak in French French yeah I thought
- 5:24that was more polite you you really did he got really angry yeah
- 5:30speak French yeah which you weren't able my accent must have just been perfect
- 5:34yeah cuz I know how to say one thing he's watched that big train sketch with
- 5:38siren Peg where's like somebody around here must yeah there's a village up
- 5:43there just over the hill a few miles if you head on up that way someone there
- 5:46probably speaks English excuse me this lady doesn't speak English and neither
- 5:50do I do you no I don't speaking of Simon Peg he's in this
- 5:56movie dead reckoning of course he is now here's the thing right when they popped
- 6:00him into the third was it the third one it must have it was JJ Abrams one I
- 6:04thought okay funny that he's there and you know it kind of made sense that they
- 6:08would just have a techy friend I had no idea he was just going to become a
- 6:13staple of this franchise from now on there was a great interview with him and
- 6:16uh Elliot Goldsmith where he was talking about they're talking about uh Hot Fuzz
- 6:20I think and he was saying um you know like the Sha of the Dead took off and
- 6:25Hot Fuzz was was hyped up and and all of his friends were saying oh you're going
- 6:29to leave us go to Hollywood and then he said it's not like they're going to call
- 6:32me and ask me to be in the next mission impossible movie and JJ called him and
- 6:35said hey do you want to be in the next mission impossible movie was like
- 6:39yeah he's also in of Star Wars that's
- 6:43right so this movie is it good I enjoyed it it's good it out of
- 6:50all of them this is the one where I've
- 6:52most felt like this is they just made up some stuff they wanted to film Tom Cruz
- 6:59doing and then they they like I said sticky taped a plot to it and it like it
- 7:02really felt like that to me and I know it got good reviews and I mean it's not
- 7:06bad it's just it's cheesier than I remembered the others being and it
- 7:10really is like the plot is so convoluted because it's just a way to get him into
- 7:16they often are though yeah it's just a way to get him into these situations and
- 7:21it got me thinking about like kind of the point of these movies almost now the
- 7:26marketing about around these is based around the fact that Tom Cruz does the
- 7:31stunts and he does this crazy stuff like he rides literally rides a bike off a
- 7:35mountain in this I'm sure you've seen the promotional stuff and I can't help
- 7:40thinking does he really need to do that because him doing that is surrounded by
- 7:47a bunch of stuff that isn't practical effects like it's not all practical
- 7:50effects I do not I don't believe for a second that everything that happens in
- 7:54this movie is a practical effect it's not possible immediately after jumping off the cliff
- 8:00parachutes down and because the timing happens to be perfect manages to kick
- 8:06the henchman that's about to shoot Haley atwell's character smashes through the
- 8:10wall of the train and kicks him like he didn't do that no you're not going to
- 8:13convince me that Tom Cruz did that so I just don't understand here's the thing though does
- 8:20he need to do this does he need to is probably the biggest box office drawer
- 8:25in the world and has been for for many years but he's not good even then I
- 8:30think he's a good movie star I'm not going to say he's a great character
- 8:33actor but I think he's a good movie star and I'll watch just about anything he's
- 8:36in but I don't I don't think he can phone it in I think he still has to try
- 8:41just as hard as anyone else to Market his movies yeah I think his name alone
- 8:46is not enough he's made enough he's not made bad movies but he's made enough
- 8:51average movies that I think yeah this is still there has to be a gimmick but I'll
- 8:57say this the first mission impos I movie is one of my favorite movies I started
- 9:02rewatching it so good it's really good yeah I'm about halfway through it now
- 9:06and it's not a I mean it's you know it's it's a bit camp but it's it's like it's
- 9:10just a good movie if they made no more after that and it wasn't a franchise you
- 9:14would still just say do you remember that movie Mission Impossible from the
- 9:17'90s but it is still this is the thing I noticed rewatching it is that it
- 9:20actually is still kind of centered around action moments in a way that
- 9:27these are and so it's like I guess it's not not like a stretch in the new ones
- 9:31are also like that I [ __ ] convoluted they talk about this knock list the
- 9:36whole time and I'm like do they ever say what NOC stands for they just say that
- 9:41it's the list of all the it's non-official cover right it's
- 9:46people who it's people whose pseudonyms aren't listed okay I had to look that up
- 9:51on the Internet after the last time I watched it are listed there's a list of
- 9:55them in that list yeah right yeah yeah that's the main thing that came away
- 10:00from this thinking is that the movie's fine but like I just don't know does Tom
- 10:03Cruz need to do that anymore like because I was thinking about that and I
- 10:05was thinking about Maverick right you know they he stopped production so he
- 10:08could learn to go and fly a fighter jet so that he could be in the planey in the
- 10:14shots but like he doesn't need to be we can the whether he was in the plane or
- 10:19whether they made it look like he was in the plane the effect is the same yeah
- 10:22yeah like if you told me do you know that F Ray really got taken up the
- 10:26Empire State Building by Gorilla I wouldn't be like well I've got to see
- 10:30this actually maybe I would maybe I would the other thing is like with this
- 10:35this in particular right there was a lot of marketing beforehand to show the
- 10:39riding a bike off a cliff thing right because I think if they didn't do that
- 10:43you would assume that he didn't of course but it also wouldn't have
- 10:47mattered and and to me it's the same as when they were saying yeah you would
- 10:51have either seen it or not seen it and I would have said I'd seen it anyway ex I
- 10:55haven't seen it because to be honest I think there's too many of these now yeah
- 10:59I think he does you're look what I did look what I'm doing yeah he likes to be
- 11:06Hollywood's dood you know like if I if we don't start doing these stunts no
- 11:10one's going to believe it well we will like it's called the Willing suspension
- 11:15of disbelief we all do it when we not not to PO but like they do even in the
- 11:20the Practical stunt it's touched up because he jumps off ramp yeah like in
- 11:25in real life and they made it look like he's jumping off the mountain which I
- 11:28mean I again I don't begrudge him he actually did it and it doesn't matter at
- 11:31the end of the day I just question does he really need to do that yeah like if
- 11:35in the end of Temple of Doom they said to you that was actually the the actor
- 11:39who played mam falling from that by alligators and being eaten by alligators
- 11:44yeah no again that would make me go and see it to be honest but you know I'm
- 11:49just talking myself out of my my own here it's not real it's a movie so I
- 11:54don't know I think he just wants to do them mate I think he's [ __ ] fine B
- 11:59doesn't want anyone else to do them and I know space this movie we've been able
- 12:04to fake space since the 60s that's what I mean and it's convincing but yeah the
- 12:09the movie suffered because of Co I know that and maybe that's why the story is a
- 12:13bit you know and again it's not bad it's just
- 12:17like so many scenes where a big action thing happens and and you're like oh
- 12:21that was cool and then they talk for like 10 minutes to explain the plot
- 12:25because the the the action scenes are independent of plot yeah to get to
- 12:30another action scene yeah it's just very obvious in and they do have good action
- 12:34scenes generally speaking they're very good but yeah I know what you mean it's
- 12:39just set pieces joined by Exposition correct yeah and I felt it more in this
- 12:43one but I still enjoyed it and I'd recommend checking it out it was fun has
- 12:48there been one in [Music] between uh Henry Cav's mustache and this
- 12:55one no I think this is the next one miss impossible Fallout was okay in that case
- 12:59I am up to date for some reason I held out seeing this because I thought I
- 13:03needed to watch one on home video first you wouldn't anyway it's not sure I mean
- 13:09you know you know Rebecca Ferguson's in them right you've seen her in them yeah
- 13:13you know Ving RS is in them you know pegs in them that's all you need to know
- 13:16really that's it right it's The Usual Suspects yeah correct do he still talk
- 13:20about the dead wife from the JJ Abrams one that was a that continued on for a
- 13:23little bit Yeah there's there some there's actually there's some
- 13:26interesting call backs to things yeah yeah again it's not it's not terrible
- 13:32it's just like clearly it's it's been out on streaming for a little while now
- 13:35too so you see they renamed it actually it was originally called Mission
- 13:39Impossible dead reckoning part one and they were going to make the next one
- 13:43part two and then I guess they were like oh actually this a movie so we don't
- 13:47know what the new name is but they've just renamed this now okay but is it
- 13:51going to be called like dead reckoning Armageddon or is it just going to be
- 13:53called like Mission Impossible Miss impossible saster pole which is the name
- 13:57of the submarine or something yeah Sebastian from The Little
- 14:02Mermaid I allow to do that voice probably not you've done it now well you've
- 14:08acknowledged that you didn't know so I think that you know indemnifies you
- 14:12somehow I think that's how you can get out of any crime right yeah I didn't
- 14:15know it was illegal I didn't know that was illegal yeah I'm pretty sure it
- 14:18doesn't work that way no so you're saying that uh that Hannah Gutierrez
- 14:25couldn't have just said I don't what are you what are you bringing Hannah into this for
- 14:29my attempt a stunning stunning attempt at a segue she couldn't have said I
- 14:33didn't know we weren't allowed to have real bullets in the G I didn't know
- 14:36shooting people was frowned upon so New Mexico I thought this was
- 14:42Old Mexico where anything go goes I knew you gonna say that how did I know you
- 14:47gonna say that I don't know I don't know is that a thing is there is there a song
- 14:51where that's the lyric or something cuz that's it was fully formed like that in
- 14:55my mind yeah but yeah so hna
- 14:59found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for the death on the rust they believe
- 15:05she herself is responsible for there being she literally is that's whether
- 15:11she's wrong or not she is literally responsible no but I think unless unless
- 15:15I'm misreading this they think she physically the bullet in there which is
- 15:20obviously now to be fair they didn't say she put it in there so that she could
- 15:25inadvertently murder the dop by the proxy of Alec Baldwin they're just
- 15:30saying she was an idiot who was [ __ ] around with real bullets yeah I guess
- 15:36understood either I guess I don't know whether they I I said physically maybe
- 15:39that's not what they meant she's responsible that'ss on the set well I
- 15:43mean there should before we knew all the details the one detail we did know was
- 15:49that the crew were like well yeah we were shooting at [ __ ] cans and stuff
- 15:52on the weekend like we knew that I know and then everyone just quiet about that
- 15:58oh I like Bal there was a bullet in there like yeah what
- 16:05world and then and then even worse they were like oh he should have known by the
- 16:09weight like that it was a bullet instead of a blank [ __ ] off like if you think he
- 16:14intentionally murdered that woman I don't know what's wrong with you like no
- 16:18it was it was clearly an accident he clearly didn't know there was a if he
- 16:22didn't like that woman he would have strangled her to death in a hotel room
- 16:25like any self-respecting man would that's right yeah if they come out they found out
- 16:31that she was pregnant with his child or something maybe this would have blown
- 16:34something wide open but as far as I know it was a horrible horrible accident yeah
- 16:39and an avoidable accident yeah turns out if you don't have bullets in the guns
- 16:44this is less likely to happen I will say I did know that before this it didn't it
- 16:49didn't take this for me to know that why didn't you tell them this is on you I oh
- 16:55[ __ ] I'm responsible so has she been sent in [ __ ] or is it just uh I don't
- 17:01think so I think she well she also can probably appeal right cuz didn't Al
- 17:04Baldwin have a manslaughter charge uh menaugh charge stick and then unstick
- 17:10later yeah her defense was it's his fault because he was the producer and he
- 17:15pointed the gun at her and pulled the trigger I'm not sure that's going to
- 17:18hold up given that he was told there wasn't any reason that he couldn't do
- 17:21that and it was a film and they were filming it yeah cuz I think I think what
- 17:25what the the gun people on YouTube don't understand is that yes everything you
- 17:30say about gun safety not pointing checking the gun knowing all this stuff
- 17:33is absolutely true when you're going shooting but this was not that supposed
- 17:38to be controlled environment what happened is not supposed to ever happen
- 17:44yeah and because of that they have a person called The armorer Who literally legally takes
- 17:50responsibility yeah that is there one job is to make sure job weapons are safe
- 17:56on the set they'll just ban it now now I'm sure they will no movie is going to
- 18:01risk the insurance claim sure of having even the chance now it doesn't make any
- 18:07sense why they still do it back in the past yes you do need it to look real we
- 18:12don't need that we've got technology that make it's fine I mean you could do
- 18:16it all digitally but even so you can got airsoft guns that blow back the hammer
- 18:21and everything when you shoot like it's it's perfectly acceptable to do that
- 18:26yeah I guarantee you've seen it in movies and you didn't even no also I'm
- 18:29sure actors could act like the gun's doing something just go like like that
- 18:33yeah yeah we I did it in uh in jab jab Russian betrayal yeah that's right with
- 18:39a a blue was here in court to prove that I hadn't shot myself to death yeah
- 18:45that's right yeah you you were one of the few people that's appeared as both
- 18:50the the victim and persecutor of the same crime
- 18:54right um was that the Time Crisis gun what was that it it was two Time Crisis
- 18:59guns we were lucky enough to get our hands on two of them bright blue
- 19:05guns with cables with cables I no I talked about my sleeves yes the audience
- 19:10had no idea and that's the magic of movies that's right but I will say
- 19:15sideways on a chair you recall and when you put little lens flashes on that in
- 19:21After Effects it looked pretty good I thought to myself that looks real it
- 19:25looks good tell look as real as I as anything else in that movie looked and
- 19:30you know what for the for the video listeners I'll pop a cheeky cheeky
- 19:34little clip in here for you so you can see what talking yeah memory was the
- 19:39music in that 9 each nails they're not going to sue us I think it's Ramstein in
- 19:43oh R it is it is you're going to hear it in a
- 19:49minute you the hard barain
- 19:57Wesley [Music]
- 20:14[Music] [Applause]
- 20:22[Music]
- 20:27oh yeah so I don't know if this helps Alec
- 20:33Baldwin it seems like it probably give him some
- 20:37leverage um I don't think I don't think so because they could still even though
- 20:43she is they could still go after him as well it's he could also be guilty yeah
- 20:47yeah supp so cuz it's it's not about it's about like yes she's responsible
- 20:52but then he's as her boss is also has some responsibility it does give him to
- 20:57say no no no it's her fault the bullet was in there I basically can't be held
- 21:01responsible for that part of it and then his defense could argue in that in that
- 21:05their argument will then be he had no reason to suspect there would be any
- 21:08issue but manslaughter is different because you don't have to have any
- 21:12premeditation or or any culpability so like my my mom's friend and this is just
- 21:17anecdotally um someone jumped in front of her car to commit suicide like with a
- 21:22suicide note pinned to them right just ran into traffic on the highway she was
- 21:27the one that hit him and she was charged with manslaughter and I remember at the
- 21:30time I was thinking like how is that fair and my mom had to explain to me
- 21:33like manslaughter doesn't mean you did anything wrong but somebody has to be
- 21:37accountable for the death yeah right A friend of my dad's I found a friend of
- 21:43my dad's had been convicted a man slaughter and I was like oh we're just
- 21:46going to go around to this crime boss's house are we understand we're all we're all not
- 21:51safe now D what do you mean you're friends with this guy yeah slaughtered a
- 21:56man we had we had an opposite I told you about our friend Lester didn't I and
- 22:01then one day somebody said you know that's not his real name and I'm like
- 22:04what they're like oh no his name's Chad we just call him Lester because he went
- 22:08down for rape years ago and I was like what what why are we making light of
- 22:13they just call him Lester the Molester ever since he got out of jail yeah right
- 22:16and I'm like I'm I'm not going to that house yeah yeah but in with your mom's
- 22:21friend I think reason why she probably Char because even though the person
- 22:25dropped out if she had been driving unsafely speeding and could have still
- 22:29prevented it that's where well yeah
- 22:34possibly yeah and she was yelling die [ __ ]
- 22:39but but that's German for ger the [ __ ] the [ __ ] run in front of the
- 22:45car yeah yeah
- 22:51sorry I've got a hat on
- 22:56um your dep perception no because I realized the audio listeners
- 23:02are just going to hear this bump oh sorry like and they're going to wonder
- 23:05what happened my hat hit the microphone listeners I'm sorry oh okay I actually
- 23:08didn't realize it was the hat that hit the microphone I thought it was your
- 23:11hand that hit the microphone and you just saying that you're all you're all
- 23:13skiff today because you're not used to wearing a hat um I have some good news
- 23:18and bad news go cuz Matt you weren't able to get the popcorn bucket with I
- 23:24was not able to get the popcorn bucket I have seen that a flashlight do fit in
- 23:29the bucket I also love how Luke says I have
- 23:34seen online
- 23:39yeah it fits in perfectly so you could
- 23:42which one Stoya almost if it was designed to do that Brandy Bell you
- 23:48you've conjured another one I don't know I I didn't want to use the same one as I
- 23:52know who did you say Riley yeah Riley Reed I
- 23:56said Hannah Gutierrez that's the oh yeah okay I see what
- 24:00you're doing I'm trying to do a bit yeah got you got you gotcha yeah yeah I
- 24:05didn't see shoot your load into no I didn't get the bucket I did get uh
- 24:11to see the movie though I have seen doe part two does does he [ __ ] a worm in the
- 24:18movie uh I don't want to disc spoilers I can neither confirm nor deny that a worm gets
- 24:24[ __ ] I think you know that a worm does get [ __ ] in a man speaking though Dan
- 24:29wink wink that's the story of Dune yeah That's how little worms get made that's
- 24:36right that's how little worms get
- 24:40drowned read the book see the movie um Dune 2 very good I won't spoil anything
- 24:46even though it's been around long time June one the movie I think better than
- 24:50June one movie excellent movie they gonna make another one yeah they have a
- 24:56lot of shots of Timothy shalamay standing in a in a wide screen shot
- 25:02looking thoughtful that's that's what I like about some of him and Dia doing
- 25:08that some of them sitting together there some of him and um what's he the guy
- 25:12from No Country for all men doing that yeah some good it it's got some good
- 25:18comedy in it too I got to say does it in not in a not in a like kind of way no
- 25:24funny bits like stillar is pretty funny in it like yeah yeah I thought was funny
- 25:29in the other one I don't remember him I mean he's not cracking jokes but you
- 25:33know like there's no it's just and and the the I mean the I mean you probably
- 25:37somewhat familiar with the plot of June I won't spoil anything but the the the
- 25:40the the thing is that they they some of the freman think he's like a a
- 25:46fulfillment of a prophecy right and there's a a faction amongst them and
- 25:50it's played for Laughs sometimes in a way that I didn't expect but not in a
- 25:54bad not in a like they're like this guy it's not like Wakka Waka Waka it's a
- 25:58joke but they just do like you know oh he denies it like the true Prophet would
- 26:03stuff like that that's just like it's good that's a bit mon python actually isn't it yeah
- 26:09so any it's great yeah I want to see this want to see it at IMAX did you see
- 26:14it at IMAX I did see it in IMAX I actually want to see it not in IMAX
- 26:18because I saw a comparison video uh on YouTube a couple days before IMAX is
- 26:25square oh the film wasn't shot Square and it's uh shot by what's his name
- 26:31Aussie guy Rogue one yeah what's his name Greg Fraser
- 26:38Greg Fraser is that who I'm thinking of Greg I have no idea Greg
- 26:45Frasier Greg Riser no I've spelled that wrong Greg Frasier Australian
- 26:51cinematographer did he do this one or have I made that up no he did he did June yeah Greg
- 26:56Fraser and uh and I now I want to see it in WID screen so you can see more of it
- 27:02now huh just
- 27:07bigger so when
- 27:09um Nolan shoots IMAX he shoots tall
- 27:14screen right yeah yep I think you got to I mean maybe they did
- 27:20frame because I know Stanley kubri used to do that he used to frame so it works both ways
- 27:26like he to go both ways that's for sure so maybe they did that but I just think
- 27:32I mean yeah I I like widescreen cuz I'm I just like that we are from a
- 27:37generation that what witnessed the change from Square screen to wide screen
- 27:43and so I think that's why we have value for it yeah when I see a beautiful WID
- 27:47screen shot of Timothy shallow in the desert makes me happy
- 27:52yeah all right I might watch the first one some point well I've got a listener
- 27:57question for you no you know what you should do Luke watch half of the David
- 28:01Lynch movie up until where it ends yeah and then go and see June 2 I watched
- 28:07some clips from the David Lynch one and I got to say it's not it's not that bad
- 28:10it's bad oh no no it's not that bad but it's also good like it is bad but you've
- 28:15got to put it in context as well of 80 Sci-Fi movies it's no worse than Masters
- 28:20of the Universe and because people are like oh it's so weird I'm like the
- 28:22[ __ ] book is weird as hell there's no worse than zard do yeah you know super
- 28:27weird one of the one of the one of the things I really appreciate about Den vu in this
- 28:33case is that he knew when to just don't we're just not going to go near that
- 28:38we're not going to show the [ __ ] engineer Space Engineers right yeah
- 28:42we're not going yeah like a we're not going to show a jar of some alien
- 28:45controller ship with its mind the the spice allows space travel move on right
- 28:51we're not going to show how that works cuz it's weird and then things like that
- 28:54and like yeah they just he he knows what to skip and then what to and also I I
- 28:59think I said this to you guys on messenger some some of the stuff in it
- 29:03is like how are they going to film that and obviously they had issues with it
- 29:06but because people have always said it's unfilmable there's stuff in this that's
- 29:10like bizarre like it is a bit weird and it turns out the secret is just don't
- 29:16show it too much yeah that's the trick yeah because I think that was Lynch's
- 29:21problem because he was like space guilt build it for me yeah you know and it's
- 29:25like that's a big puppet from the 80s that's going to date very quickly
- 29:30subtlety let the person's imagination feeling that's Clive Barker's big thing
- 29:34is just the less you show them the more they're imagination or fill in the Gap
- 29:37get a better pay off yeah that's accidentally why Jaws was so popular you
- 29:42know yeah there you go they were gonna they were going to have 50 shots of that
- 29:45shark and they ended up with three and it was much scarier it didn't [ __ ]
- 29:49work yeah the other reason that this book is so unfilmable in quotes is
- 29:55because a lot of it is just talking about the plot you know there is a lot
- 30:00of talking in this but they it's like I said because in the in the book too
- 30:05usually authors will kind of have someone's point of view as the kind of
- 30:09hero point of view and that doesn't mean that they'll speak in the first person
- 30:12necessarily could still have that voice of God but if the author knows about one
- 30:16person's story then side things will kind of just be on the periphery of that
- 30:21whereas the way that Dune is written it's like I'm know everything about
- 30:25everyone just telling you what's happening now I'm in this scene you
- 30:28everything that happened in this room and now I'm in this place and I'm
- 30:32telling you everything about this so it's it's a different it's not a book
- 30:36that feels like a movie some books when you read them you're like oh I can see the movie
- 30:42yeah yes I'm glad it's good I will say it oh yeah so I have a listener question
- 30:47some somebody listen to Nate I don't even know why I said somebody I'm used
- 30:50to not I'm used to not naming people now cuz people some some people don't like
- 30:54some people don't want to be named yeah it's cuz we've we've we've embarrassed
- 30:57people before by I mean even if Nate wouldn't didn't want
- 31:00to be named I'd still name still name you Nate you're being named right now
- 31:05Nate wants to know right Luke you claim to have only read the page of Dune in
- 31:11which Paul L trates recognizes jny H's
- 31:15footsteps as he as far as I can get that
- 31:19occurs in chapter four I got I knew that somebody would call him out on that at
- 31:25and so what he wants to know is did you just find a tattered cop of Dune in the
- 31:28same tree stump as Cindy's new love yeah or did you yeah or did you read all the
- 31:34bits about the quiz arts hatak and all of that first before we get to that
- 31:39point I don't know in my head that's where the book starts all I can remember
- 31:44boring that's the most memorable part of what I've read stuff is all before that
- 31:50he's right I do not recall any of that there's yeah there's a whole bunch of
- 31:54stuff before it so no some pretty intense stuff in fact some stuff that
- 31:59when I finally read this book in you know 2015 or whatever it was many years
- 32:05after I been hearing about how good it was I was reading that stuff going oh
- 32:09this is good you know yeah I read it um during my exams in I think year 11 or
- 32:16something in high school and uh I knew already about the movie but I'd never
- 32:20seen the movie cuz in our school library we had the the making of Dune book about
- 32:26the movie and actually I think that and Batman is probably a big reason that I
- 32:29got so interested in film because I just read this whole book about the making of
- 32:33June having never seen it then read the book and so I already knew that Patrick
- 32:37Stewart was gy HCK for example and so he literally just always has been in my
- 32:43head like an interesting side effect of that like I've seen what P I've seen
- 32:48pictures of what these people look like so even when I read the book having not
- 32:50seen the movie that's what they look like that's what they are yep did you
- 32:54see that Super Bowl ad just now where um Patrick Stewart kicks that little
- 32:59cartoon boy up a hill no what just just
- 33:04CLE it after this all right okay uh and yeah they're probably going to make
- 33:09another Dune yeah so this one's doing very well which which the third one will
- 33:14be very very different won't it like if they do it the same as the book yeah oh
- 33:20yeah yeah oh yeah now Matt you don't have to spoil it but you also don't have
- 33:23to avoid it but how how far beyond the boundaries of June does this or not it
- 33:28was inflated it do okay yeah no no no no
- 33:32right it no doesn't
- 33:36yeah yeah yeah I mean I already know there's some stuff from the first half
- 33:42of the book that wasn't included in the first movie that is now put in the
- 33:47second half because Florence is in this there's some stuff that's different over
- 33:52the book do you know they never say her name we were we were talking about they
- 33:58only refer by her characters no I mean they never say princess IL I don't think
- 34:02the word princess the words princess irelan occur at all in the film I don't
- 34:05think either that or they talk about her when she's not there and it's
- 34:09unclear I know who they mean but I'm not sure the audience would much narrates
- 34:13the book yeah because it's it's and the David Lynch movie I was about to say and
- 34:18I think the first line of the David Lynch movie is I am princess Iran yeah
- 34:22she Pops in in space and tells you about it yeah um who is that who plays her in
- 34:27that is that uh [ __ ] I know this um Joan
- 34:33Wy cuz I know that um Rachel the
- 34:37replicant is uh Cheney right yes sha young yeah yeah Virginia
- 34:43Madson the junor Madson that's it yeah yeah she's hot in June just putting that
- 34:49out there oh it's super hot out there in that desert yeah
- 34:53um cuz afterwards I went and I I went and saw I bought tickets with Jenna and
- 34:58then Jordan wanted to come too so she got tickets she couldn't sit with us so
- 35:01but she got tickets to the same session so we met up afterwards and had a beer
- 35:05and she's Jordan has read the book Jenna hasn't and I said something about
- 35:09Princess Aina Jenna was like who's that and I was like yeah they didn't say
- 35:14interesting they just you just know that's the emperor's daughter I don't
- 35:18think they ever said her name okay um yovi was going to cast um Orson Wells as
- 35:24the emperor I would love to have seen that I although honestly I think the
- 35:30documentary hoski Jos do is better than the movie would ever have been
- 35:34absolutely well for starters he admitted he'd never read the
- 35:40book yeah the documentary is so entertaining that I worry that we would
- 35:45have got a bad G St his own son as Paul trades yeah but the story about Aon he
- 35:51goes to he flies to I think France Paris where Aon was just living at that time
- 35:56to ask him to be in the movie and aw was in this restaurant having lunch you know
- 36:01just [ __ ] gorging himself with some kind
- 36:04of the French waiter bring me the um and
- 36:09uh and Yosi was saying I want you to come come and be in this movie and he's
- 36:13like no I don't I'm not doing movies anymore I want to come and eat lunch in
- 36:18this restaurant every day and he's like what if I hire the chef from this
- 36:21restaurant to fly to Los Angeles to cook for you every day would you do it he's
- 36:25like if you did that I'll do it I never made the movie so oh
- 36:31man I watched something set in the desert this week uh in the dunes but it
- 36:37wasn't Dune uh it was sand job the latest installment in uh The Grand Tour
- 36:43The Grand Tour very what' you think I liked it very much but I will agree
- 36:48they're not even pretending that they're not reading lines now are they no it's
- 36:54like what there's so many times where there surprised by the entrance of one of
- 37:00their colleagues and I'm like he must have been standing there the whole time
- 37:05like you're in the you saw that car approaching that's right
- 37:10yeah I mean it was all good I mean the foreshadowing of they want to explode
- 37:14this tank well let's let's not let that happen you're like [ __ ] cannot wait
- 37:18till the second and like they're in like another country and then that [ __ ]
- 37:22snowmobile comes in and it's like I mean obviously we're not meant to believe
- 37:26that's real but it is funny right yeah yeah definitely good yeah it is a shame
- 37:32that we've only got one more to go but it's also I think it's time CU probably
- 37:36is yeah they're looking their age now yeah they've been doing it for a very
- 37:40long time and their Standalone shows oh not Hammond's Hammond's shows have been
- 37:45a bit of a m but I think
- 37:48um yeah and James May's travel shows very good too May's YouTube stuff is
- 37:54[ __ ] funny too oh really he's got one he's got one little series called unpimp
- 37:59my ride and um he's telling people what to take off your car that makes you look like a
- 38:06[ __ ] I've seen a clip of that because I think that must be what he was
- 38:10doing he had a there's a YouTuber I like called Matt Armstrong he's a British guy
- 38:14who does up like fixes crashed cars and he was he's got a a Maserati and James
- 38:19May called him a [ __ ] of the way could be it yeah yeah well now I have to watch
- 38:26that yeah it's just short it's like he comes up someone's got a BMW and he's
- 38:31like this is not a bmwm series and he takes a chisel he's like so don't put an
- 38:36M sticker on it
- 38:42nice um so I see there's a link here for a new game that we should play together
- 38:48but we never will no well maybe there's there's been a fairly recent example of
- 38:53a time that we did play a game together this game is made by the people who made
- 38:57that game I'm talking about June Awakening is made by funcom the people
- 39:02who made Conan XL which is a game we did play together I played two hours of
- 39:08Conan Exiles this week play it but on arus well see that's the funny thing was
- 39:14because there there was a game that came out on switch last year that I also got
- 39:17which was basically conand B June yeah the sand star sand or whatever the [ __ ]
- 39:22star sand yeah something like yeah spice worm the movie but um i
- 39:29s uh wormy spice the yeah yeah the one that's not married
- 39:35to Christian hor although the plot thickens there I
- 39:40know we've got leaning that after party follow up okay um yeah I'll play this I
- 39:47played uh I suddenly realized that I could play Conan on my on my U absolute
- 39:53and so I was like I could literally just be in bed at night playing Conan what a
- 39:57[ __ ] time Burg that a good game a game with no aim that is a fun yeah I struggle with
- 40:03those games but I'm good at Mining and get Gathering resources that's it this
- 40:08Juna weekend looks pretty cool I reserve the right to for it to be [ __ ] and I
- 40:14think they probably also leared a lot from Conan as well so yeah yeah
- 40:21yeah true like how to destroy Villages I mean they've remade Conan
- 40:26from the ground up at least twice lifestyle you know like it's
- 40:32it's there's still it's still huge updates every time you play it but at
- 40:37least it's the same game now whereas the game mechanics changed at one stage and
- 40:41then the the way that the whole point system changed at another stage and you
- 40:45reverted everything back to zero like it was was a bizarre oh that would be
- 40:52painful there was a point to the game it would be but there wasn't so it really
- 40:56doesn't matter yeah all right I'll wait for it to come
- 41:01out if it comes to Xbox I might play it it is on Xbox that's how I saw it it was
- 41:05in the this trailer was in the uh in the Showcase they did the other day so that
- 41:10means it's on Game Pass maybe it's on Game Pass that'll make it even easier
- 41:13for us to play together uh except Dan because he doesn't have Game Pass
- 41:17anymore but I I there there are ways there are ways to one thing is made
- 41:22quite clear you can't kill a sandworm well yeah can you ride one though
- 41:28good question can I impregnate one there's a there's a base building system not
- 41:34even just [ __ ] one he wants it to bear his child
- 41:39yeah that looks cool does a worm a worm only has one
- 41:45orifice right
- 41:50um I don't know real I don't I'm not saying that frankt no you just made me
- 41:55think of something that was in the movie This Is Not spoiler spoilers to that
- 42:00like no no I had questions right because I don't think they ever explained this
- 42:03in the Dune the David Lynch movie and I I worried that this was going to be
- 42:08a the fact that they ride the worms is a little weird except they do explain it
- 42:13in the book right how why the because why doesn't the worm just go undergr
- 42:18again it's because the hooks pull open the pull back armor plating and then the
- 42:22sand gets in and it so therefore it literally kicks you up top and then you
- 42:26can steer because you pull the plates and it steers the worm right so actually
- 42:30is moves so that that stays out and the way that they show that in this is that
- 42:36he they pull it up and you can see there's these little holes where the
- 42:39sand goes in I was like oh okay good they like like I could [ __ ] it there
- 42:42yeah I could just like I think in the David Lynch one it's just they're just
- 42:46on the worm and it's like unclear why the worm is allowing this like you know
- 42:51where yeah horses could Buck you off you
- 42:55know so could do it could W me off oh also I saw an interview with Denny
- 43:01vill where he's talking about how um one of the things that's left vague in the
- 43:06books is how do they actually get onto the worm in the first place yeah yeah
- 43:11yeah how do they climb up the worm and they have to basically to come up with
- 43:14that and it's it's I it's pretty good like it's a good just wait till it's
- 43:18only out of the sand a little bit and then just get on when they can no it's
- 43:22it's like it's a thing it's it's pretty got a worm ladder yeah he's he's he's a
- 43:26good he's a good good movie making man denam he is he is I like his stuff you
- 43:30should watch sario I should I've got I actually have it on uh Apple I bought it
- 43:34on apple to watch it you should watch it I mean I don't like movies about drug
- 43:40cut I don't give a [ __ ] about that crimes Crim I just don't like crimes ha
- 43:44crime that annoys me yeah yeah doesn't pay um but this he just it's very it's
- 43:51not about that it's not about that what it's about is do the tactics that the
- 43:55Americans have to use in order to fight the cartels make them just as bad as the
- 44:00cartels like it's a it's it's an evil versus you know it's a spectrum of evil
- 44:05kind of movie and what I love is that when you watch Zario 2 you're like hang
- 44:10on where's the continuity here and there isn't any because he wrote two scripts
- 44:15they picked one they weren't sequels to another he just wrote two versions of
- 44:19the script then when that was successful they went he's like do I need to change you
- 44:24like no it'll be fine H approved characters that are dead are
- 44:31suddenly alive because it's just an alternate universe of the same characters that's very
- 44:37[Music] strange no I will watch that after I
- 44:43watch all the mission Impossibles yeah yeah yeah either of you seen Rebel Moon
- 44:49yet no no still not no but apparently a
- 44:55lot of people have according to Z Snider yeah he um he was on Joe Rogan
- 45:02this week talking about stuff uh I listened to the start of it it's pretty
- 45:05interesting I will listen to the rest I do think I do find Zack Snider
- 45:08interesting and it it's an interesting insight into his point of you because one of the
- 45:14things this article mentions he says on Netflix when you look at the numbers I
- 45:20think what did he say something like 90 hang on let me get the number right he's saying
- 45:27um it's at 90 million views on Netflix right 80 or 90 million yeah and then he
- 45:34says and when you watch something you're usually with somebody right so double
- 45:38that right yeah just double it so there if it had been in the movies it would
- 45:44have beat Barbie fact
- 45:49yeah I don't numbers don't lie yeah he says $60 million people at
- 45:54$10 a tickets would be what does that matter I don't know 160 million time 10 that's 1.6
- 46:00billion so that's how much so that's his that's his box office taking out yeah exactly
- 46:05he that's right so top of the charts yeah I don't know it's just funny like I
- 46:10mean I get where he's coming from he's promoting his movie but yeah I mean but
- 46:14and he's always arguing that his movies are more popular than they are it's
- 46:19Netflix compl he's the most unpopular popular director that there is yeah but
- 46:24he so mainstream and he worked he makes so many movies and gets all this money
- 46:29to be making these movies and yet somehow he still has to fight his way up
- 46:33but like he's he he like it's crazy like Netflix is very different there are
- 46:37plenty of stuff that we will watch that we would definitely never go to the
- 46:41movies to see there's a big difference between I'm going to go pay 10 bucks to
- 46:44go to the movies to see this thing to H I'll just Chuck this on while I'm doing
- 46:48the eying yes like yeah yeah yeah big difference yes but I do like how he just
- 46:55goes 89 million then you ticket You've Got a Friend you got at
- 47:01least one friend so a lot of people have sex during Netflix movies so that's a
- 47:06baby so triple [Laughter]
- 47:12it now I did tease early on yeah I should watch this too and I should watch
- 47:16the Creator as well I just don't want to watch any bad sci-fi that I know Creator
- 47:21is not bad I just overhyped it in my own head no it is good I just hyp up too
- 47:27much it's my fault it's not gareth's fault it's my fault I still think you
- 47:31should watch 65 although Luke will disagree don't oh that's the one with um
- 47:36kylo Renos kylo Ren fights dinosaurs Planet I said kylo Ren you said kylo Ren Luke said
- 47:43dinosaurs and none of us were
- 47:47right very good maybe I should give it another try
- 47:52I just did it wasn't good I'm not going to convince you to watch it if you you
- 47:56don't think a man a space man crash landing on another planet which turns
- 48:02out to be Earth and then fights dinosaurs with his laser gun if you
- 48:06don't think that's interesting that's on you mate maybe you like dramas and
- 48:09romcoms I don't know well oh speaking of dinosaurs have you heard about the
- 48:14rumors for the next Jurassic world movie because they're making another one I
- 48:18know Gareth Edwards is directing it yeah what's the rumor hybrid dinosaurs and humans oh
- 48:25they've finally done it they've talked about that
- 48:29before someone's [ __ ] one yep that's the
- 48:36tagline Jurassic world
- 48:40[Laughter]
- 48:46seven the same it's it's directed by Den villain and he's had to figure out how
- 48:51you climb up onto it they just took the script for the howling three and they
- 48:55said swap the with dinosaurs and they're like but we'll make it more realistic
- 49:01he's like don't you [ __ ] dare make me some puppets make me some [ __ ]
- 49:06puppets just put a lot of backl on them the Hing three is a movie I have to
- 49:12watch again yeah did I ever tell you Matt that Burnham Burnham the First
- 49:18Nations man who stars in that movie yeah yeah came to our school warber Primary
- 49:24School wait what no you haven't told me this to tell us about the makings of
- 49:28that movie now obviously none of us had
- 49:32seen it right this is an R-rated action horror movie to be fair I think it I
- 49:39think that movie was bigger in Australia than it was anywhere else in the world
- 49:42because it was filmed in the outback of yeah and if you're wondering if
- 49:45listeners don't know what we're talking about howlings one and two not
- 49:47Australian nothing to do with it yeah yeah just werewolf movies and then
- 49:51somebody was like what else can we do I think it was the Canon group was it the
- 49:54Canon group that that that used to buy wres and they just make shitty sequels
- 49:58probably yeah um which is the reason we got Superman 3 and four by just a
- 50:03completely different team yeah etc etc uh but yeah so he just came to our
- 50:07school in like 1986 or whatever it was that that movie wow was made hor and I
- 50:14think they probably thought he was going to be just talking about what it was
- 50:17like to you know be an Aboriginal man and you know all that kind of stuff yeah
- 50:22but he he would just talked about the film and he told the plot I if I was the
- 50:26most interesting thing that happened to him of course yeah but he um he yeah
- 50:32just told us about like told us the whole like just stood there telling us
- 50:35the plot of the film and then the woman turns into and then she gives birth to
- 50:41the like he just told us the plot animal [ __ ] thing and it climbs up into the
- 50:46pouch it's [ __ ] weird but I like it yeah it's extremely
- 50:52weird yeah that and there's another Australian horror movie called body melt
- 50:56that is [ __ ] weird because body melt
- 51:00has got Harold from
- 51:03Neighbors and um Lisa kudro oh Lisa Cudo no Lisa Kudo is from
- 51:10Friends uh who's the Australian girl who was in blue healers the blonde girl
- 51:14little blonde girl woman sorry woman I'm
- 51:17being Lisa mun that's who I mean wow okay I'll be I was I was writing the
- 51:24first name oh it's got Andrew d in it of course yes yes yes and it's it's like a
- 51:30it's like a you know gross out horror movie from the80s in it too oh 80s or
- 51:3590s but yeah super weird okay yeah it's early 90s uh but this looks great and I
- 51:41will watch this for sure oh
- 51:48M amazing remember in Neighbors when Harold when he died and then they
- 51:52brought him back back neighbors neighbors got wild for a while cuz yeah
- 51:57he he they thought he drowned and then he just comes back years
- 52:02later somebody else too like you know what maybe he just didn't drown yeah
- 52:06maybe yeah you know who audience is liked
- 52:11Harold buy the funny thing is though the uh the thing with neighbors
- 52:17is that it ran for so long that by the time you're watching it chances are you
- 52:21don't have Nostalgia for characters from 20 years ago you know like isn't
- 52:27isn't we're losing any listeners who don't know what the [ __ ] neighbors is
- 52:30anyone who's not in England or Australia is not going to know what we're talking
- 52:33about it's a sick not sicom drama show so there you go from
- 52:38Australia um toon I think is the longest running character on that show yeah I
- 52:44can't believe they kept him the guy was a bully at the beginning yeah just
- 52:48became the most beloved character he became a teacher at the school yeah yeah
- 52:53I know funny right and I'm sure he married one of the back
- 52:58again yeah every time they try to take it off people just demand to get put
- 53:03back on I know that uh Kylie Mino was angry that they brought it back because
- 53:08the reason they convinced her to be in another episode was that they said this
- 53:11is the finale You're Gonna Want to be in this yeah book end it my favorite though
- 53:17was yeah probably yeah probably I think so you remember E Street remember that
- 53:22Australian soap E Street you remember how that ended no everybody died
- 53:29everyone went to that Pub on East Street and it exploded there was a gas Le and it
- 53:34exploded excellent that is excellent end of show
- 53:40like what do you do what do you do I told you I met one of the actresses from
- 53:43home I've told you the story I know I have on the podcast before at a sandwich
- 53:47shop because I thought I walked into the sandwich shop with some people from work
- 53:51and I saw this girl there and I was like oh I think I went to school with her or
- 53:54something not out loud I just saw this girl and I was trying to figure out
- 53:57where do I know her from and she obviously saw me looking at her and
- 54:03thought he's a fan because she was a celebrity and you saw her and thought
- 54:07did she go to oh yeah did she go to mam or did I go to school with her and then
- 54:12she said hi and I said oh hey how have you been she oh very good and it was one
- 54:15of those things like yeah we know you know we we think we we know what going
- 54:21yeah and then uh and I knew the score it just wasn't the same score yeah I was
- 54:26like yeah oh well good to see you uh glad you're well bye like she was like
- 54:31yep thanks left and then my friend from work goes how do you know her and I was
- 54:36like I don't remember I think I went to school with her and he goes no no no
- 54:40she's from home and away and you and I was like oh yeah that's she is she is
- 54:46that's right yeah I don't know her my mom did that with Michael
- 54:52sharker the F1 driver yes m not Mick m right obviously years ago like in the
- 54:59'90s OR 2000s or whatever it was saw him at Sydney airport and was like this guy
- 55:04same as you just like I know this guy and she doesn't watch Motorsports so she
- 55:07does not she would not have yeah same thing she was like he was just very
- 55:11famous yeah hey and he was like oh hi how are you and she's like good good and
- 55:15then just went back and her friend or whoever it was was like Michael sha cuz
- 55:20she's like no I recognize him from somewhere but he's probably just used to
- 55:25people coming coming up um I can confirm that home and away is still on and they
- 55:30up to episode 8,225 oh that's a
- 55:35lot that's even more episodes than Matt's A Country Practice yeah who is
- 55:41this girl that I bumped into no not is the Fisher she was a redhead but someone
- 55:46else not Melissa George no no no no see I would know them cuz they were from the
- 55:52era when I was younger and I actually watched it somewhat you know
- 55:58nalo person rebeccca malalo is that a real name that just
- 56:03popped into my head you know why I know that name is because in that uh who sh
- 56:08the floor of my wedding podcast that's one of the pseudonyms someone uses and I
- 56:12was like that's an actress I couldn't get into that I listened to three
- 56:15episodes of that on a road trip and I was like I'm looking this up just
- 56:20looking it up who did it I think I just can't stand New Zealand accents for that
- 56:24that length of time I don't know who this person is no you've got a lot of actresses to go
- 56:31through yeah I'm looking at like it's a lot of redheaded ladies on that show
- 56:36yeah cuz it has been running since 1988
- 56:39so what's that like this might be
- 56:43her Kimberly Cooper that's her oh I recognize that name Kimberly Cooper yeah
- 56:50that's her I saw her at a sandwich shop that's you creeped her out in a sandwich
- 56:54shop yeah that's who it was oh yes yeah but you know what this is going to sound
- 57:00weird this does look like the kind of girl we went to school with you know
- 57:04what I mean like sure yeah yeah like if you saw her she doesn't look like a
- 57:09movie star she just looks like one of the chicks y from net that's I couldn't
- 57:15Place her and I was like she I know her from somewhere and then yeah and then
- 57:18because she engaged I was like no I definitely haven't met this person before
- 57:25anyway tell why did she get if you if you typ
- 57:30in kimil coopa one of the things it brings up is Kimberly Cooper abducted
- 57:36abducted that's not good it might be a different Kimberly Cooper I maybe we
- 57:40shouldn't be talking about this I had nothing to do with it listen I don't
- 57:43know anything about this oh yes no no it's just there's a a little girl got
- 57:47abducted by a woman called Kimberly Cooper but it just comes up that's
- 57:50unfortunate that's I think that's why they usually give middle names to people
- 57:55that they you know this girl is exactly the same age as us
- 58:00too this Kim coer yeah says she was she's like three weeks after my birthday
- 58:06so yeah yeah yeah there you go reasonable for me to think there was a
- 58:10person you school with her yeah yeah look before we before we go into the
- 58:14Afterparty I I did tease at the start of the episode that um there was guys
- 58:20there's been yet another change to Star Wars um I mean not now back in was it
- 58:252003 something like this but it's only just surfaced now that when Star Wars
- 58:31Episode 4 aired in Chile they didn't want to interrupt it it was sponsored by
- 58:36a by a beer company as all things are um and I guess they just paid a little more
- 58:41and so they just edited shots of the beer into the movie throughout the film
- 58:46rather than cutting to ads so for example it is amazing and I thought this
- 58:51must have been a joke it's not a joke evidently the scene where in Obi-Wan's
- 58:57house on T and he goes to open up the the the chest to get out the lightsaber
- 59:01he opens it up and it's full of ice and beer and then the lightsaber and
- 59:04they''re just superimposed even getting that out like and then again like on the
- 59:10Death Star there's like when he pulls down that tannel is actually just
- 59:13opening a little mini fridge like there's just edited in their product
- 59:18throughout the film awesome yeah and apparently it's just come out now and
- 59:23they are not happy about it who's who's not CH well yeah they perfectly
- 59:29happy about it yeah but the only thing problem I've got
- 59:34with it because all the clips I've seen they show like he and he's a be but I
- 59:37want to know how they continue get transitioned back to the movie well the
- 59:42the one that I saw a full clip of was it was just a cutaway shot so it was
- 59:46basically open up a thing see the beer like that matches the the motion
- 59:53but then when it comes back it's it's not there really need to acknowledge
- 59:58didn't need to build in the continuity yeah like when he goes like your father
- 1:00:02want you something he picks he picks up a be and then he I wonder know how he
- 1:00:06then turns to his a light he just got sh of them having a
- 1:00:11drink first and then anyway now that we're good and loaded have a
- 1:00:18weapon that's funny all right very I got to watch these I'm you do I mean out of
- 1:00:25out of the changes made to this film I mean this is one I it's not my worst
- 1:00:31maybe this is where George got the idea in the first place oh yeah he was like
- 1:00:35wait we can do that or the Chilean saw this and were're like oh I didn't
- 1:00:38realize you could just change this movie like this movie must be in the public
- 1:00:45domain that's funny this was
- 1:00:49back when was
- 1:00:52when 20 years ago the 2000 2003 all right so it's which is also
- 1:00:59weird like because this was like the first time it was showing I was GNA say
- 1:01:03back like the 80s like how the [ __ ] did they even do it but yeah 2000s you could use a
- 1:01:10computer um yeah my first job in TV was to go through because I worked for this
- 1:01:16company that shot concerts and they would shoot them live to edit so they
- 1:01:20would have cameras on the audience and cameras on the thing and somebody would
- 1:01:22just be Vis switching and sometimes they would cut to a shot of people in the
- 1:01:26audience and somebody would look bored or not be clapping or it was a comedian
- 1:01:30and cut to a shot of somebody not laughing or something and then my job
- 1:01:34was to go back later and mark down the time codes of these and then tape to
- 1:01:40tape off of big beta cam tapes other bits of audience to cover those bits up
- 1:01:45yeah so but you would have to it was all analog there was no digital or computer
- 1:01:50stuff but you'd have to be like it was like the cut is at 625 and 7 frames
- 1:01:56until you know this and then play it in real time and it would come on and so I
- 1:02:01mean maybe you could do that but I mean I've probably told you this before but I
- 1:02:05went to a sh they shot live for television uh there was some comedy like
- 1:02:10standup comedy show in in Australia in the in it be in the 90s or early 2000s
- 1:02:16and I went to see it being shot in at Fox Studios and um before they even the
- 1:02:22comedians came out they got us all to sit down filmed they said all right we're going
- 1:02:27to get a few of you laughing right everybody just laugh like okay laugh a
- 1:02:33bit more this time laugh laugh even more laugh hysterically kind of thing a whole
- 1:02:36bunch of shots of that all right everybody swap seats right get up
- 1:02:40Shuffle around like don't worry don't sit next to the same person you can go
- 1:02:43back and sit with your friends after Shuffle everybody around all right let's
- 1:02:46do it again kind of thing all right and then the comedians came out and they just
- 1:02:51obviously were laughing after that because they already had footage of us
- 1:02:53laugh and they were get edit yeah that's yeah yeah I told you didn't I about when
- 1:02:59I was when I was in Norway um and uh we saw a polar bear which was we went on a
- 1:03:05on a track to see a polar bear yeah yeah and the guy was saying oh BBC sent a
- 1:03:09crew out here to do a polar bear documentary and they brought a polar
- 1:03:11bear costume with them I'm like of course they did and like because he was
- 1:03:15really offended but I'm like no no no you don't you don't spend the money on a
- 1:03:18polar bear documentary they will be with a question mark about whether or not
- 1:03:21you're going to have yeah that's right yeah
- 1:03:28wamper I paid good money to go see a wamper you paid good money to see a wamp
- 1:03:33I would pay yeah you know there's a whole deleted subplot in Empire where
- 1:03:39the wampers attack the rebel base yes comes out of the wall yeah yeah and it's
- 1:03:44actually a scene where they actually get it locked away and CIO goes past and
- 1:03:48rips off the sci so stor Troopers go in there and get attacked by the W when
- 1:03:52glad that's been removed that's pretty stupid yeah was like watching
- 1:03:58recently watching some kids show where there was a snowman like a kind of snow
- 1:04:02monster or something in the in in back in his little cave and then just they
- 1:04:06don't even mention it but there's just this little lightsaber just sticking out of the
- 1:04:10snow I can't remember what was
- 1:04:14though all right so we should we head over to the Afterparty what's the about
- 1:04:21that time it's after parties where we will continue talking for good another 10 15

- 1:05:38geek that's a dune joke there's not really someone called shy hulud that
- 1:05:42died as we already covered you can't kill a sandworm but you can [ __ ]
- 1:05:49one I just
- 1:05:54yeah I did see people were like going in with like I'm just here to [ __ ] the
- 1:06:00popcorn box this guy made a very funny video on
- 1:06:07it was just on Twitter it was um it was like it silly it was just a picture of
- 1:06:10like a like a drawing of a sand worm from one of the books and he put you
- 1:06:14know you put the Eyes in the mouth on like and you talk and it was him doing a
- 1:06:18trump impression going hey everybody it's shy hude you know we've all heard
- 1:06:23about Paul tradies is a very nasty man and he's bringing these religious
- 1:06:27Fanatics up from the south into our country we got to put his stuff it's
- 1:06:30very funny that's great my trump impression sucks his is better but it
- 1:06:36good saw somebody's Twitter post that's like I just came out of June just to be
- 1:06:40clear you all are fighting over
- 1:06:43[Laughter]
- 1:06:48cinnamon they yeah I guess they don't touch on how useful spice is they men in
- 1:06:54the first one yeah they kind of but they kind of don't even in the first book
- 1:06:58though even I'm trying to remember where along the line I actually understood why
- 1:07:03spice was so important to them yeah well yeah the space travel thing they do they
- 1:07:07do say it but also it's because they outlawed AI somewhere along the line
- 1:07:12they can't they can't improve technology so they have to use magic instead
- 1:07:16basically so before the movie Jenna was like I want to watch a recap so we
- 1:07:20watched a recap and it was all going fine until they started talking about
- 1:07:23the like Paul's Visions about about the holy war and all this kind of stuff and
- 1:07:27she was like I don't remember that and I said you probably don't need to worry
- 1:07:30about it too much yeah yeah um it'll it'll come up if it if you need to know
- 1:07:34it I'm sure and then I said something about I was like is there anything else
- 1:07:39I should explain or whatever and I started talking about she she said something
- 1:07:42about I mentioned mentats and she goes what the [ __ ] is a Menat and I said oh
- 1:07:46well these humans they do these calculations because they don't have
- 1:07:48computers and stuff like that and she was like stop I can't imagine this being J or I'm
- 1:07:54not coming to the movie yeah I was like all right what's Benny ches doesn't come
- 1:07:59up in the movie my my wife said to me like about a week and a half ago she's
