- 0:00Welcome to Loud and Lifted, the podcast for women
- 0:02in leadership who want to grow their careers
- 0:04without shrinking themselves in the process.
- 0:07Today's episode is for the woman who keeps thinking,
- 0:09it's my messaging. I need to say it better. I
- 0:11need to offer more. And you're feeling scattered,
- 0:15overstimulated, and like you're spinning. My
- 0:18guest is Kayla G. And she's known for helping
- 0:20high performing women get precise about what
- 0:22actually matters so they can stop doing the most
- 0:25and too much and just start getting results.
- 0:29We talk about why It's My Messaging can be a
- 0:32trap, how to create coherence when your brain
- 0:34feels like you have 37 tabs open, and a super
- 0:38practical way to think about intuition. Not as
- 0:41woo -woo, but as a signal once you remove the
- 0:45noise. Let's get into it. Welcome to Loud and
- 0:48Lifted. Kayla, thank you so much for being here.
- 0:51How do you feel being on the other end of the
- 0:53microphone for a podcast today? I'm so excited
- 0:56because obviously I've done so many interviews
- 0:58and I had you on my channel, but it's so fine
- 1:00to be in the chair and be like, what are you
- 1:02going to ask me? Where is this going to go? And
- 1:04it kind of takes the pressure off and I love
- 1:05it. Nice. Oh, don't worry, the pressure is going
- 1:08to be on because we have a lot of questions for
- 1:09you. So you have a very different business and
- 1:13approach to business. So first of all, before
- 1:15we get into it, let's talk about who are you
- 1:17and what do you do and how do you help women?
- 1:20So I am a human design, Gene Keys, AI business
- 1:25coach for spiritual women who specifically are
- 1:28growing their business online and they really
- 1:31want to understand how to leverage social media
- 1:33courses, emails and create an entire ecosystem
- 1:37that works for them based on their energetic.
- 1:40So there's zero bro marketing like. pretty much
- 1:43anti cookie cutter approach altogether. And so
- 1:47I've been in this business now for seven years,
- 1:50and I've been podcasting for seven years and
- 1:52I've been an entrepreneur for 10 years. And so
- 1:53I just I really love the work that I do. And
- 1:55obviously, being here and having this conversation
- 1:57with you, I know there's a lot of corporate women
- 1:59listening to this, but there's going to be some
- 2:00golden fucking nuggets for you today. So I'm
- 2:02really looking forward to this chat. Yes, I love
- 2:05it and you have such a different approach because
- 2:07it's the spiritual piece of it, right? And we
- 2:09get so hung up on our checklist and professional
- 2:12development and that's all great and there's
- 2:13a place for that. But for a lot of people, they
- 2:15need to see that other angle to it. So when you
- 2:19first start working with someone, where do you
- 2:21start? Do we start with the orientation or how
- 2:24do we get moving when you start working with
- 2:26a new person? Yeah, I find that when women come
- 2:30to work with me, what typically happens is they're
- 2:32aware that they have a blind spot, but they don't
- 2:34know what the blind spot is. They're going to
- 2:36say things like, oh, I have this offer and I've
- 2:38been showing up on social media and my messaging
- 2:40and I'm doing all these things. I'm doing all
- 2:42the things. I'm podcasting, like they're just
- 2:44pulling their hair out. And what's really interesting
- 2:47is that what I noticed, so you use the word orientation
- 2:50and this is like a very non -sexy word that has
- 2:53been brought into my vocabulary in the last several
- 2:55months as it's popped up for me. is I notice
- 2:59the biggest blind spot that women have is that
- 3:03they don't realize where they're standing when
- 3:05they're looking at the problems of their business.
- 3:08So when something's not working, they'll oversimplify
- 3:11it down to, it's my messaging. If I get my messaging
- 3:14right, then everything else will work. And it's
- 3:16like, if that's not. how it works. So I help
- 3:19women rather than being so honed in on like one
- 3:21or two things and making everything wrong, or
- 3:24if things are quiet, automatically assuming it's
- 3:26not working, step back and look at where they're
- 3:31standing, the orientation, you are stepping back
- 3:33and you're looking at, okay, sure, here's the
- 3:36messaging, but then there's your offer. But when
- 3:38somebody comes into your ecosystem of they got
- 3:40your lead magnet and they're on your email list,
- 3:43how are you nurturing them? Do you have six different
- 3:47offers because you haven't been able to sell
- 3:48the first offer. So you chuffed it up to try
- 3:51and sell it better. And now your audience is
- 3:54confused. It doesn't matter how good your messaging
- 3:56is. Like if that's just one example of like the
- 3:59through line of you want to get people into your
- 4:02offer, but then look at how all of these things
- 4:04are actually. incoherent and so when you pull
- 4:07back and step out it helps women stop taking
- 4:11the unworkability of their business as a personal
- 4:13attack on themselves and thinking oh my god i'm
- 4:16not working hard enough and it's my identity
- 4:18and i have to do all the subconscious work it
- 4:20actually gets to be a lot more simple and less
- 4:22personal and it just like regulates the fuck
- 4:25out of our nervous systems when we approach business
- 4:28this way so that's kind of a you know kit and
- 4:31caboodle of what i do with women from a a farsighted
- 4:34perspective. I love that. And I feel like you're
- 4:37talking to me because I have totally done that.
- 4:39In the last year of doing my own business, you
- 4:42know, you kind of start off, you think you're
- 4:43here and then you're not really getting traction.
- 4:45So you go in another direction and then you add
- 4:46more shit and all of a sudden you're like, I
- 4:48am just throwing spaghetti at the wall and I
- 4:50don't even think anything is sticking, but I
- 4:52just keep throwing more. So it's easy to get
- 4:55overwhelmed on that and you know how it happens.
- 4:58So then it's just like... Okay, let's fix it.
- 5:00Let's approach it. You know, when you talk about
- 5:02that, obviously you're talking about it from
- 5:03a business perspective, but I couldn't help think,
- 5:06how does that impact? We talk a lot about personal
- 5:08brand, right? Like in our image, how do we, how
- 5:12does that impact that? Like just women struggle
- 5:14with that piece too of, you know, I feel like
- 5:16sometimes we try to be all things to all people.
- 5:19And, you know, we try, we try to do all this
- 5:21professional development to be better. And we're
- 5:22just kind of like spinning versus just like.
- 5:25Stopping and focusing. So how do you see that
- 5:28play into to women personally? Yeah, I think
- 5:31this is so huge because what you said specifically
- 5:33actually is something doesn't work so that we
- 5:35think something's missing so then we keep adding
- 5:36more shit and a hundred percent of the time a
- 5:41hundred percent of the time When I work with
- 5:43women we end up taking things away. I'm like
- 5:46you don't need six freebies You actually don't
- 5:49need three different offers. You don't need to
- 5:52be on five different platforms, like we subtract,
- 5:55I take things away, which is crazy because if
- 5:58you actually look at the coaching industry as
- 6:00an example, it's rooted in you are not enough,
- 6:02therefore you need this thing and here's this
- 6:04next program and this new identity and you have
- 6:06to work on this identity. So coming back to the
- 6:07identity piece, what I notice is that when there's
- 6:12a lack of coherence, I use this word a lot as
- 6:14well, is like coherence is when It's like a living,
- 6:17breathing, like things are working in harmony
- 6:19and things are connected in the way that they're
- 6:21meant to be. They're in the correct sequence,
- 6:23therefore they work. When there's a lack of coherence,
- 6:27and again, it comes back to women thinking it's
- 6:29not working and suddenly becomes personal. It's
- 6:31like, well, I must not be the woman who can hold
- 6:33it. I must be living more into the future version
- 6:37of me who has the money and the clients and so
- 6:39on. So then what happens is women will start,
- 6:43even though they think they're doing identity
- 6:45work and they're starting from within, they start
- 6:48building their business from the outside and
- 6:50they start borrowing language like, oh, I need
- 6:53to be more activated. I'm going to start talking
- 6:55like this or they start thinking, oh, look how
- 6:58that person made that $33 offer. I'm going to
- 7:00make a version of this and that's who I am now.
- 7:02And so there's a reaching in a borrowing from
- 7:05the outside and we think that's identity work
- 7:08because it's still rooted in pressure, need to
- 7:11get people to buy these things, I'm going to
- 7:12do X, Y, and Z. It's still rooted in momentum.
- 7:16I'm only successful if I'm consistently making
- 7:19sales. So everything is based on this reactionary
- 7:23experience of running a business where it's constantly
- 7:26looking for the instant external gratification.
- 7:29And that's not identity work. That is like...
- 7:32the effort to try and build infrastructure, but
- 7:34you're holding up walls that aren't yours, which
- 7:37is something that I'd mentioned to you earlier.
- 7:39Identity work is when you find things actually
- 7:42get a lot more quiet, something that I've been
- 7:44doing the last couple of months where I'm not
- 7:46announcing every single thing that I'm working
- 7:47on. I'm not trying to build hype to do a big
- 7:50launch to get people into a program. It's very
- 7:52much focused on, okay, How can I cultivate the
- 7:56coherence of my business? And if I have this
- 7:59offer, if I'm posting in this way, does it actually
- 8:02connect to the next process or the next journey
- 8:05of where my clients are going? How are my clients
- 8:08actually experiencing this specific funnel leading
- 8:11into this program? Like it's looking at the coherence
- 8:14of what it is that I'm building and it actually
- 8:15doesn't require any external noise or validation.
- 8:19But it's like a part of your ego dies because
- 8:22you realize that you're building in silence and
- 8:25there's no external, hey, you're doing great.
- 8:29Keep going. You have to trust yourself. Right.
- 8:32So that's where deep identity work comes in.
- 8:34And I hope that that was a really big explanation.
- 8:37But I think it's really important because there's
- 8:39so many layers where we can see ourselves operating
- 8:41from. No, that's so interesting. I love the word
- 8:43coherence. I can't say that I've ever used that,
- 8:46and I might start using it. So how many of these
- 8:48women that you work with come from corporate
- 8:51originally and are now starting entrepreneurs?
- 8:53And how fucked up are they because they're coming
- 8:55from a corporate background? So funny. I laugh
- 9:00from familiarity. It's like not a laugh of judgment.
- 9:05It is, uh -huh, I get that. I would say that
- 9:08100 % of the women that I work with will literally
- 9:13say themselves, like, I've been a terrible employee.
- 9:16I cannot be employable. Like, I just this doesn't
- 9:18fulfill me. Yes, I was good at being a teacher.
- 9:21Yes, I was good at being a VP. Yes, I was good
- 9:23at doing X, Y and Z. And it's like, I can't do
- 9:25that anymore. Like, there's something pulling
- 9:27me. There's a purpose inside of me. I can't fully
- 9:29articulate it. This is what I want to do. I don't
- 9:32know what it looks like. But I feel the fire
- 9:33like that. That's literally the women that I
- 9:36work with. And that's also a version of me as
- 9:38well. And so when you say fucked up from corporate,
- 9:42what I do notice is, this is the biggest thing,
- 9:46women who leave corporate to start a business
- 9:48are so caught up in the structure and the ecosystem
- 9:53that they may have not noticed within the corporate
- 9:55space and they associate the amount of effort
- 9:59and hard work that they're doing should produce
- 10:01results within a specific timeline. Yes. Right?
- 10:06So I'm going to get more specific with this,
- 10:08believe it or not. So in corporate, we show up,
- 10:12we do our job, we get a salary. There's a very
- 10:15clear description of when you do X, Y happens.
- 10:18Here's a promotion, here's a conversation, here's
- 10:21constantly being witnessed. This is me assuming
- 10:23that we're in person at this point and now we're
- 10:25working remotely. So you're in person, people
- 10:27see you every day, you have conversations. There's
- 10:30constant external feedback from the environment.
- 10:34But when what you don't realize is that there's
- 10:37an entire ecosystem within a corporation that
- 10:39is structured that when you do x you get y when
- 10:41you work you get money when you go into a business
- 10:44that ecosystem and structure literally does not
- 10:47exist so we have to build it that's why i talked
- 10:50about coherence because you have to build something
- 10:52coherent that's how businesses create corporations
- 10:54because they have coherence within their company
- 10:56it's not perfect obviously but it's stable because
- 10:59they can pay their employees and hire people.
- 11:01So you are your own employee to your business.
- 11:03So if there's no business structure, how are
- 11:05you going to get paid? Like that's really what
- 11:06it comes down to. So that's why I've done so
- 11:11much personal deconditioning from corporate and
- 11:12even over the last couple of years, where it's
- 11:15not about how much action I'm taking, it's about
- 11:17the action that I'm taking and whether or not
- 11:20it makes sense for what it is that I'm building.
- 11:22And the crazy thing is that you cannot outwork
- 11:26timing. That is the most painful truth of them
- 11:32all. You literally cannot outwork timing and
- 11:36I think that is the hardest pill to swallow as
- 11:38an entrepreneur and that's probably the biggest
- 11:41thing that women have to deal with when they
- 11:44leave corporate because it's like You know every
- 11:46six months you get a raise and after two years
- 11:48you get this and it's going to retirement and
- 11:51here's your 401k and it's like very dialed in
- 11:54but it's not like that business at least not
- 11:56in the beginning now. Oh my gosh, you're so right
- 11:59in that you can't outwork timing. And that's
- 12:01probably one of my biggest challenges in this
- 12:03last year. I mean, 20 plus years in a corporate
- 12:06structure and environment and consistency and
- 12:10a couple months into doing my own thing. And
- 12:11I'm like, why is this not taking off? Why am
- 12:13I not doing this? Why don't I have more business?
- 12:16And a solopreneur said to me, she's like, you
- 12:18just need to be. patient, like it's going to
- 12:20come, but it doesn't come in three months. She's
- 12:22like, you're doing the work, you're planting
- 12:24the seeds, like your garden takes time to grow.
- 12:27I was like, I'm not patient. So I'm still learning
- 12:29the timing piece of it, but you know, it's, I
- 12:32love the D conditioning, D programming. I love
- 12:35that because that has been core. When I went
- 12:37from a really big corporate organization to a
- 12:39much smaller, it was, it felt entrepreneurial,
- 12:41but there's still a structure and people and
- 12:44team and consistency to now this level. On my
- 12:48own, as we were joking at the beginning, you
- 12:50know, my own IT person, own whatever, it really
- 12:52does change you. And you do have to decondition
- 12:54from those structures and the confines that a
- 12:58lot of us grew up in and became used to. So let's
- 13:01switch gears a little bit. Let's talk about intuition.
- 13:05Tell me how we can best, hardest utilize our
- 13:09intuition in business. Yes, I love this question
- 13:13because obviously I feel like up until now I've
- 13:15been like, here's the structure and the masculinity
- 13:17of all of this, but then I can also swing so
- 13:19hard into the femininity of intuition. I think
- 13:23the biggest thing when people say, well, what
- 13:25is your intuition? How does this work? It really
- 13:30is prioritizing removing noise so that you can
- 13:35feel and hear the signal from your body. And
- 13:39what I mean by that is what I find is when there's
- 13:43too much noise happening, let's say for example,
- 13:46let's use a house as an example. So there's a
- 13:47lot of clutter. They've got things in the kitchen
- 13:49and there's chaos here and there. And it's like,
- 13:50you're not actually going to see the surface
- 13:52area of the space because it's covered. So if
- 13:56I were to ask you, how much surface area do you
- 13:57have in your house? You'd be like, I don't know,
- 13:58but there's a lot of shit everywhere. So when
- 14:00you look at clearing the noise, clearing the
- 14:05shit, then you can say, oh, here's the surface
- 14:07area of this counter. Here's the surface area
- 14:08of the couch. Here's the surface area of the
- 14:10dresser. And suddenly you can see the spaciousness
- 14:12and you can feel energetically how you can. walk
- 14:16into a room and your shoulders feel like they
- 14:19drop and you can just feel oh my god this smells
- 14:22so good or look how the light is coming through
- 14:24the window right now and you know the bed is
- 14:27made and things feel peaceful and calm so your
- 14:30intuition as much as you can try so hard to listen
- 14:34to your intuition be like what does my intuition
- 14:36have to say but if your environment physically
- 14:40or even mentally like you have too much on your
- 14:43mind and maybe you need a calendar to take things
- 14:45out of your head. If you really want to connect
- 14:48your intuition you have to create the space for
- 14:50it and that is so important because people say
- 14:53I want to connect to my intuition and immediately
- 14:55go to that but then it's like you got to create
- 14:57that again, literally it's the same conversation
- 14:59as earlier creating that ecosystem of your business
- 15:02around your business. You need to create that
- 15:04spaciousness around yourself for your intuition
- 15:06so that you can hear it and connect to it. And
- 15:09I think that this has been something that I've
- 15:12worked on the last couple of months. And like,
- 15:13if you're like, what does it mean? You know,
- 15:14obviously, we use the house metaphor. But if
- 15:16you're in the online space, for example, or even
- 15:18in corporate, it's like, how can you remove unnecessary
- 15:21noise that isn't actually helpful? Like I went
- 15:24on Instagram, I followed everyone on Instagram
- 15:26in the last couple of months. I also unsubscribed
- 15:28a lot from my email list. And I'm not listening
- 15:30to any other podcasts right now. I removed Instagram
- 15:32from my phone. I only go on my iPad. And it's
- 15:35like very intentional, like I'm posting these
- 15:36stories and doing X, Y and Z. So it's really
- 15:39simplifying. What input is coming in because
- 15:42the less input you have the more space you have
- 15:45the quieter It is the more you can hear and feel
- 15:48that little voice inside of you So that's kind
- 15:50of the first Process of how I would like create
- 15:53the structure for connecting to your intuition
- 15:55because some people are probably like I don't
- 15:57know if I'm connecting to my intuition But if
- 15:58they're all of a sudden they're like, oh my god,
- 16:00I have so much noise Yeah, get rid of the noise
- 16:02and then see what happens Oh, that's so true.
- 16:05And especially with our phones, right? Like we
- 16:08can't just sit. And I catch myself doing it.
- 16:10I could be like at a stoplight that I know it's
- 16:12going to be really long. Instead of just sitting
- 16:13there listening to the radio, doing whatever,
- 16:15I pick up my phone. I'm seeing if anybody texts.
- 16:17It's like, I'm sitting here for 20 seconds. Why
- 16:19can I not just sit? And I did that recently actually
- 16:23on the way back from yoga. So I already felt
- 16:25like I was like in a good spot. I'm like… I didn't
- 16:27turn on any music. My drive was like five minutes,
- 16:31but it was five minutes of complete silence,
- 16:34which at first was a little uncomfortable. even
- 16:37though it's by myself. But I try to do that more
- 16:40and more because there is, there's so much noise
- 16:42and we just never stop. We can't not be on our
- 16:45phones or have music playing or the TV in the
- 16:47background. And, and you're right. It's just
- 16:49so much constantly at us that there's, there's
- 16:51no time for that silence or quiet just to actually
- 16:54think. And I guess that's probably why people
- 16:56always would say about like good ideas coming
- 16:58in the shower or on a run, because you're like
- 17:00just. not focused on that. You're focusing on
- 17:04running or taking a shower. So I love the intuition
- 17:07piece and that makes sense. Are there any other
- 17:10tips like that to be able to like tie into your
- 17:13intuition more? Yeah, I think that when it comes
- 17:17to There's so many different ways you can connect
- 17:21with it, whether it's meditation or journaling
- 17:25or even just walking and like you said, not listening
- 17:28to music and seeing what comes up. I think there's
- 17:31even been times where in the last couple of weeks,
- 17:33I was in the kitchen, I was cooking and I wasn't
- 17:35listening to music. I was in the kitchen for
- 17:37like two hours in silence cooking. When the door
- 17:43is open, that's when things can drop in. I'll
- 17:47give you an example. I was sharing with you before
- 17:50we hit record that I went pretty fucking deep
- 17:52into feng shui in the last two months. I'm really
- 17:56excited about this. one of the the last couple
- 17:59weeks what we've had to do is you know lay the
- 18:02bagua map on our house figure out the directions
- 18:04get really clear on like what's supportive in
- 18:06each room that kind of thing and one of the other
- 18:09things we had to do was to do a clearing in the
- 18:12house so it was like i bought you know some smudge
- 18:15and some palo santo and i did like a salt cure
- 18:18in the corner like we're going full voodoo here
- 18:19and last night i spent an hour doing a Cleansing
- 18:25and a clearing of the house and I put on some
- 18:26like hurts binaural beats and I was before this
- 18:29I had set intention and I was like My intention
- 18:32for the home and just for my life this year is
- 18:35just to create and cultivate and hold more harmony.
- 18:39That's something that it just, hmm, harmony in
- 18:41relationships, harmony with money, harmony with
- 18:43business, that feels really fucking good. But
- 18:45there was still something there that wasn't fully
- 18:48landing. And I was like, okay, I'm just going
- 18:50to take this and run with this because this is
- 18:52what happens. Your intuition doesn't necessarily
- 18:54tell you. everything right away all at once.
- 18:57Sometimes it comes in pieces. So I'm like, okay,
- 18:59I'm gonna go, I'm gonna clear and cleanse the
- 19:01house and I'm going around with my smudge and
- 19:04like figure eights all over the place. And all
- 19:06of a sudden, one sentence drops in. Let it be
- 19:12easy. And I thought, oh shit, that's the sentence.
- 19:18It's not cultivating, create harmony, because
- 19:20then that is doing something. And I'm a doer.
- 19:23I'm like an over -functioning, high -achiever,
- 19:26freaky type A person. I will do shit until the
- 19:29cows come home. And when this dropped in and
- 19:32it was just, I'm in the middle of smudging, listening
- 19:34to my binaural beats, and it was like, let it
- 19:36be easy. And I actually got so emotional because
- 19:38I thought... Wow, I can see where I'd been trying
- 19:42to control things and clean this and do that
- 19:45and organize this. And then I thought, well,
- 19:48what do I do if I let it be easy? And I'm like,
- 19:50holy fuck, I have to take my hands off the steering
- 19:52wheel. So it was just like three little words.
- 19:57And that came straight from my intuition and
- 20:00I wasn't doing anything crazy. I'm not telling
- 20:02everyone you have to go clear your house and
- 20:04cleanse and whatever, but I am saying that you
- 20:07got to trust your intuition in layers. It's not
- 20:09always going to be a straight shot, but it's
- 20:11quiet and it will not be loud. That's the trick.
- 20:16Well, that's a great point, right? If someone
- 20:18is trying to declutter their brain and they feel
- 20:20like they're tapping into her intuition, how
- 20:22do they know they're doing it? I don't want to
- 20:25say right because there's no right way. But to
- 20:26your point, it's kind of that quiet. Like how
- 20:28do they just kind of extract that once they feel
- 20:30like they're doing that clearing out of their
- 20:32minds? Yeah, I think coming back to the coherence
- 20:36thing, like when those three words dropped in
- 20:38my head, let it be easy. It was like sliding,
- 20:41like the satisfaction of when you've done like
- 20:43a thousand piece puzzle and you go to sliding
- 20:45that last piece and it just fucking clicks and
- 20:47you're like zero explanation, zero proving energy.
- 20:52This is the truth. I don't care what anyone says
- 20:56or what anyone thinks like it's just pure and
- 20:59you can trust it but if it's something that comes
- 21:02to you and you're like Hmm, I don't know. What
- 21:05about this? What about that? And then you take
- 21:06it and you talk about it with three different
- 21:07people and they gave you four different perspectives
- 21:09and you're like Well, what if I did this? No,
- 21:11I'm not gonna do that anymore. I need to go do
- 21:12this So notice that there's like a restlessness
- 21:15there and it's it's it does take a level of trust
- 21:18of like, okay this clicked for me, what if I
- 21:21just left it and didn't touch it and I didn't
- 21:23need to go and tinker and fuck around and and
- 21:25put it here and put it there. This is what came
- 21:28through for me. What is it going to look like
- 21:30now if I just let it be and let it show up for
- 21:32me rather than than going and bringing in external
- 21:35noise because you don't trust yourself. So that's
- 21:37the thing is like I look for that very specific
- 21:40feeling of this feels like truth and I literally
- 21:43don't care what anyone else has to say about
- 21:45it. I love that. That's great. So we're at the
- 21:48beginning of the year still. And, you know, you
- 21:50mentioned that's your intention. How often are
- 21:52you setting intentions? Do you have a word of
- 21:54the year? Like, how do you sort of set those
- 21:57tones, I guess, for your year? Yeah, I let things
- 22:00unfurl, but I do set points that I like to come
- 22:05back to. And every December, I always record
- 22:08a podcast episode about, you know, choosing your
- 22:10gene keys for the year and your word of the year.
- 22:13And my word for this year is precision. And I
- 22:17love this word because I mean, again, it's not
- 22:19a sexy word. It kind of goes in with orientation
- 22:21and coherence and like the words that people
- 22:23don't typically use. But precision for me means
- 22:26if I'm going to be precise, then I can't entertain
- 22:28noise. I have to get to the point, right? And
- 22:32with precision, other mantras that came through,
- 22:35again, I guess, let it be easy is now one, but
- 22:37do less, say less. Like the things that I'm telling
- 22:41myself and holding the standards to are just
- 22:43smaller, but very intentional. And so that's
- 22:48my word of the year. My gene key of the year
- 22:50is a 60 second gene key. I know we didn't talk
- 22:52about gene keys today, but the gift of that gene
- 22:55key is precision. So it really is about, you
- 22:58know, what is it going to take to be precise?
- 23:00What do you need to take away to keep that simplicity?
- 23:03And I just find that Having those little anchors
- 23:06can be really helpful, whether it's a word, whether
- 23:09it's a gene key, whether it's something in astrology
- 23:12or whatever resonates with you in affirmation
- 23:14or if you have a very specific goal. It's whatever
- 23:17is going to anchor for you. When you create it
- 23:20and it feels coherent and you have that click
- 23:22and you don't feel like you have to justify or
- 23:24explain to anyone, that's when you know that
- 23:26that's your truth. That's how I love to choose.
- 23:30Usually I choose a word. and then I'll reflect
- 23:32on it in the December. I'm like, wow, so here's
- 23:34what I thought was going to happen, and then
- 23:36here's what actually happened, and it's a whole
- 23:38story, but it's really fun. Right. But I love
- 23:40that, but there's a theme. And what's so crazy
- 23:42is you're building a business, you're growing,
- 23:44but your theme is about simplifying and stop
- 23:47trying to do so much and being over the top.
- 23:49And I love that. And I actually saw somebody
- 23:52else on LinkedIn post that too, and with very
- 23:54similar rationalization. It's like, we get so
- 23:57overstimulated with our goals and to -do list
- 24:00and increasing revenue and just all the things
- 24:02we want to achieve that it just like, ah, it's
- 24:05like total chaos. So I love the fact of like
- 24:07just dialing it back, which I unfortunately went
- 24:10the other direction with my word this year, so
- 24:12I went with Ignite. Again, year two of a business
- 24:17of trying to get things moving. I wanted everything
- 24:19to come to fruition really this year and to ignite,
- 24:23so I'm kind of rethinking that, but it's all
- 24:25right. I'm going to go with it. It's the fire
- 24:27horse, so it all goes together. Yeah. No, I think
- 24:30go with it. Because sometimes, like, OK, last
- 24:33year, my word in 2025 was ascend. This is what
- 24:36came to me. And I was like, where the fuck? I
- 24:37was actually in charge of the key and I was playing
- 24:39with the gene keys, like doing my thing. And
- 24:41I was like, ascend? What the hell? And I thought
- 24:43this. Oh, I don't know if I like this because
- 24:45it felt very like pedestal like ascend. And I
- 24:49thought, no, I'm just going to sit with this.
- 24:50And I stuck with it the entire year. And by the
- 24:54end of the year, what happened was I realized
- 24:56I did have to rise above my shit. And there's
- 24:59so much that I had to let go. It was a snake
- 25:01year, right? Everything was shutting. I changed
- 25:02my software, my platforms. I let go of offers.
- 25:05I'm like, oh, that checks out. So it surprised
- 25:08me. So stick. If you like Ignite, stick with
- 25:11it and then see what happens. That's the fun
- 25:13part. That'll be fun. Yeah. I always try to do
- 25:16a word of the year and some years I'm like, well,
- 25:17that didn't quite work out. It's fine. So you
- 25:21mentioned Gene Keys and I think to this audience,
- 25:23this is probably a topic they don't know a lot
- 25:25about. So tell us what that is and how you utilize
- 25:28it. Yeah, I'll share like gene keys and human
- 25:31design like an overlay of this. So obviously
- 25:33I feel like everyone's heard of astrology. That's
- 25:35like the big thing that people are most familiar
- 25:37with. And so these systems, human design and
- 25:41gene keys are two different systems that they
- 25:42have crossover. So talk about human design first.
- 25:46When you get your birth information, so your
- 25:48date, time and location, you can literally go
- 25:50to Google and type in like human design chart
- 25:52and there'll be different platforms where you
- 25:54can put your information in. I like to use genetic
- 25:56matrix. So you put your birth information in
- 25:59and what you're going to see on the screen will
- 26:00be very confusing. I'm not going to lie. but
- 26:02you'll probably be very curious about it. You're
- 26:04gonna see a body graph, okay, and there's gonna
- 26:06be shapes, and there's gonna be channels connecting
- 26:09the shapes, there's gonna be a lot of numbers,
- 26:10you'll see information that'll say, you're a
- 26:13generator, you're a one -three, you're an emotional
- 26:15authority, there's gonna be information about
- 26:17what human design is. Human design is an energetic
- 26:21blueprint on how you're designed to show up and
- 26:24operate in your life or, for example, in your
- 26:26business. And so I use this as a tool with my
- 26:29clients so that when we go to build, their business.
- 26:32It's very specific to their energetic gifts and
- 26:35capacities. So it's an integrity and coherent
- 26:38with their being. Right. Now the gene keys is
- 26:43there's a component, there's the astrology component
- 26:46from human design that pulls over into the gene
- 26:48keys. And then the gene keys also has a system
- 26:50with human design. called the I Ching, and it
- 26:53comes from the Chinese divination text. And there's
- 26:5564 streams of consciousness, as we call it, 64
- 26:59numbers that represent very specific energetic
- 27:03experiences that we have as people. And so your
- 27:06gene keys, there's like... three different sequences
- 27:09that show your energetic experience of how you
- 27:13move through life. So human design gives you
- 27:15more of the, here's my strategy and how I make
- 27:17decisions. And Gene Keys is more of a contemplative,
- 27:21meditative experience of, oh my gosh, I can see
- 27:23how this specific energetic expression shows
- 27:26up in this area of life. And so it helps you
- 27:29see patterns. It helps you see triggers. It helps
- 27:32you see shadows. And then you can integrate this.
- 27:35So I love to use this as a tool as well with
- 27:38entrepreneurs in business. So obviously, we talked
- 27:40a lot about structure today, but I use a lot
- 27:43of energetics within the structure. And that
- 27:46creates the integrity for people to be aligned
- 27:48with themselves and how they move through their
- 27:50life and their business. I love that. And, you
- 27:53know, it's funny, for those of us who grew up
- 27:55in a professional corporate world, you take 800
- 27:57assessments, right, from like Strengthfinder
- 28:00and Predictive Index and Disc and all that stuff.
- 28:04And that information's good to kind of help to
- 28:07know how you operate. But this is a different
- 28:09perspective and level, and I got to find out
- 28:11what time I'm born so I can do this. I asked
- 28:13my mom the other week. One thing I want to say,
- 28:16what you just said is so important. I actually
- 28:18recorded a podcast episode. I think I'm going
- 28:20to find it and we can put it in the show notes
- 28:22for you because there's probably a lot of corporate
- 28:23women who are like, yeah, I know disc. I know
- 28:25the enneagram. I know this. You do all these
- 28:27tests. Human design and genki's are not a personality
- 28:30test. It's like your energetic expression since
- 28:33the moment you were born. That's the difference.
- 28:36However, what I find is really, really interesting
- 28:39is that Those personality tests, they're based
- 28:42on your behavior and your motivation, so they
- 28:44can change. I used to be an ENFJ, and now I'm
- 28:47an INFJ. Like, why did that happen? I don't know
- 28:49why that happened. I mean, I can speculate. But
- 28:51with human design, it doesn't change, and your
- 28:53gene keys don't change. Yes, there's transits,
- 28:55like you hear in astrology, oh, we're in Pisces
- 28:57season, or we're in Aries season. There are those
- 29:00influences, but your core remains the same. So
- 29:03I just wanted to share that because it's actually
- 29:05really cool to leverage. You can leverage human
- 29:07design, especially in corporate, which is really
- 29:10awesome. So anyways, that'll be like an additional
- 29:12nugget. That goes back to just understanding
- 29:14who you are and how you operate. And we all have
- 29:16our strengths and leaning into that versus trying
- 29:19to be someone or act totally different than you
- 29:22are. So I think that's where people get hung
- 29:23up on like, I've seen people be upset about like,
- 29:26you know, their disc assessments, like, no, it's
- 29:28okay. Hey, like it's who you are, it's your strengths.
- 29:30Like let's lean into that. This isn't like, oh,
- 29:33you have to be this to be in what position or
- 29:35whatever it is. So I love stuff that gives you
- 29:38insight on who you are and how you operate. And
- 29:40then just using that to, I don't know, be better
- 29:43essentially, or at least understand what the
- 29:45hell you're thinking about or why you're thinking.
- 29:47So is there anything else that as you've worked
- 29:50with these women through the last 7 -10 years
- 29:52that you see women get tripped on that if you
- 29:55think they pay a little bit more attention to,
- 29:57they would be able to make an impact and be better?
- 30:01Yes. I think this is actually kind of like a
- 30:04loaded thing to share. I, and I've been there
- 30:06like so many times where I felt like a victim
- 30:08and I was fucking pissed. Like, why is this taking
- 30:11so long? I've spent this money. I'm holding debt.
- 30:14I want to pay this off. I want to move forward.
- 30:16I'm doing everything. And I get really righteous
- 30:18about how things are going. And I think you can
- 30:20relate to this in corporate too. It's like, I
- 30:22broke my ass off. Where's the promotion? Very
- 30:23similar. And I think that when, especially as
- 30:28entrepreneurs or even in corporate too, when
- 30:31we put that pressure on, I need this to work
- 30:34and Once this works, then I will relieve X, Y
- 30:38and Z like retroactively. The hard truth to swallow
- 30:42is that there is an avoidance of responsibility
- 30:45that's not being looked at. So when I've looked
- 30:48at, let's say financially, if I had certain goals
- 30:50in my business where I'm like, I want to make
- 30:52X a month, I want to do X, Y and Z because then
- 30:54I can do A, B and C and that doesn't happen.
- 30:57If I actually look at A, B and C, it's like,
- 30:59well, Kayla, how can you better manage your finances?
- 31:01Like budget sheet this, learn about this conversation
- 31:04here. how can you actually look at the things
- 31:08that you can control, instead of thinking once
- 31:10you achieve X, Y, and Z, that's going to neutralize
- 31:14A, B, and C. That's not how it works. So there's
- 31:16always the irony is that there's actually always
- 31:19more that we can control. But sometimes we avoid
- 31:23looking at the thing because we just want the
- 31:25easy way out. And that's like, literally such
- 31:28a hard pill to swallow. I say that with compassion.
- 31:30I do it. I've done it. It's very human. But I
- 31:33think that that's something is like, where am
- 31:35I not looking that I'm avoiding that would actually
- 31:37make a difference now rather than waiting for
- 31:39this other thing to show up where I can't control
- 31:41the timing. Oh, that's so true. And it's funny
- 31:43you mentioned corporate. I think of that about
- 31:45women that I know who are stuck in corporate
- 31:48and they say they want to get out. They kind
- 31:50of sort of have a plan. But the things that they
- 31:53really need to do to be able to get out, they
- 31:55won't address. So it's like, do you really want
- 31:58out? Like, you know, the way it's not easy, not
- 32:01claiming that it's easy, but you just get stuck
- 32:03in and just kind of in that rut of well, I'm
- 32:06doing this, I'm just going to keep going until
- 32:07maybe something dramatic changes. Maybe it's
- 32:09not their decision to leave. So it's just interesting
- 32:12to understand that. Well, this is awesome. This
- 32:16has been super insightful. And we'll put everything
- 32:19from links in the show notes. But where's the
- 32:21quickest way to find out more about you and connect
- 32:24with you? You can find me on Instagram at Kayla
- 32:27G Mike podcast built for the edge. And we had
- 32:31a beautiful conversation on their bed seat, which
- 32:33I'm really excited to be sharing with everyone.
- 32:35I'm going to add, I can't remember the name of
- 32:37the episode off the top of my head, but the one
- 32:39that compares human design against, you know,
- 32:41the strength finders desk like awesome put that
- 32:43as an additional resource in the show notes.
- 32:46And I want to share another resource. This is
- 32:48called your business reoriented. So whether you're
- 32:51an entrepreneur or you're in corporate, this
- 32:53is there's these are five select podcast episodes
- 32:56from my channel that are really going to compliment
- 32:58the conversation we had today where what it looks
- 33:00like to orient yourself to create coherence,
- 33:03leveraging your human design and gene keys. So
- 33:05it's not just here's what Kayla did to do X,
- 33:08Y and Z and you do it too. It's very much How
- 33:10does this show up for you? Where are you standing?
- 33:13What needs to shift so that you can move forward
- 33:17and regulate your nervous system and build what
- 33:19it is that you want to build? So that will also
- 33:21be in the show notes as a gift for everyone.
- 33:24Awesome. Kayla, thank you so much for being here.
- 33:27Thank you, everyone. Kayla is the kind of guest
- 33:29that makes you want to close your laptop, take
- 33:31a breath and immediately delete three things
- 33:33off your to do list in the best way. If you want
- 33:37to connect with Kayla, I'm linking all of her
- 33:39info in the show notes. And if human design and
- 33:41G keys made you curious, start there. Don't overthink
- 33:44it. That's literally the point. And if you're
- 33:47a listener who's building confidence, presence,
- 33:49and a stronger leadership identity in real time,
- 33:52make sure you're following Loud and Lifted on
- 33:54Instagram and share this with a friend who's
- 33:56been feeling a little scattered lately. We all
- 33:58need the do less, say less reminder sometimes.
- 34:02Until next time, stay loud and stay lifted.
