- 0:26SPEAKER_00: next week's main story.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Welcome to episode three, three of my rinky dink little podcast.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Today is Wednesday, May 22nd.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: And this week I actually got the date right.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: See, we're very professional here at the Opinionated Ogre.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: I am thrilled at how many people have listened to the podcast so far.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Both episodes have had around 500 downloads apiece,
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: which is about 450 more than I was expecting for each episode.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: So thank you for all of the support,
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: even if you're just listening for five minutes and then throwing your phone out of
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: a window.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: I get why you might do that.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: My daughter says I drive her insane pretty much any day.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: So, you know, it's all good.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Anyway.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Let us get into this week's Ogre Nation update.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: So,
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: unintentionally,
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: this week's theme for the update mostly turned out to be how the press is helping
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Donald Trump murder America.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: So, good times ahead.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Now, I did not want to start off this week's show with a hair on fire story, but what the actual fuck?
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: This ad from Donald Trump with the not really all that hidden unified Reich message
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: is completely disgusting.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: If you have not seen this yet,
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: it's a 30-second clip of how wonderful things will be during a Trump second term.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: The economy is booming, as if that were already happening.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: The border is closed.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Mass deportation begins.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: And using clips from old newspaper, it comes up on the screen.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Quote, industrial strength significantly increased by the creation of a unified Reich.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: With the word MAGA right above it.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: The Trump campaign tried to claim that this was an accident.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: Fuck you, you lying sacks of shit.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: No, it wasn't.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: It was 100% deliberate.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: Just like every other Nazi reference Republicans have been making,
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: and they make a lot of Nazi references.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: If it was really so easy to slip up and say,
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: whoops,
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: I did a Nazi thing,
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: you'd see it happen a lot on the left too.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: But you don't.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: It's always the right, and it's been happening a lot more frequently.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: It's all dog whistles to the GOP's white nationalist base.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: But this wasn't even a dog whistle.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: It's an ear-shattering scream of hate, and we all heard it.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: And you know who else heard it and immediately started masturbating?
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: The KKK.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: neo-Nazis,
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: the Proud Boys,
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: all of the white nationalist militias we're supposed to keep pretending don't exist,
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: even as they march in the streets begging for the chance to be Trump's brown shirts.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: The Biden-Harris campaign put out the following statement after Trump took 19 hours to pull the ad down.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Donald Trump thinks Adolf Hitler did,
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: quote,
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: some good things that neo-Nazis who chant Jews will not replace us are very fine
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: people and now dreams of a unified Reich if he wins.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: He has called the heroes who died in the war against tyranny suckers and losers.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: He echoes the words of fascists and promises a bloodbath and possible violence when he loses in November.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: Not if, when.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Donald Trump posting a unified Reich video is part of a pattern of his praise for
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: dictators and echoing anti-Semitic tropes.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: He's a threat to our democracy,
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: and Americans must reject him and stand up for our democracy this November.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: That is a fantastic response, and that's kind of what the press should be doing too, but they don't.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: They don't want to because that would be biased, which, you know, of course it's biased.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: Why call a fascist a fascist?
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: Now, Biden also put out a short video.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: It's you know, it's on YouTube.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: It's on.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Well, it's all over the place.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: And this is what that went like.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: What's next for America?
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: This on his official account.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: A unified Reich.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: That's Hitler's language.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: That's not America's.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: He cares about holding on to power.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: I care about you.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: I love that he said it.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: I love that he said, that's Hitler's language.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: And just making it super, super clear.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: This is Nazi shit.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: This is just Nazi shit.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: And I'm tired of people dancing around it and saying, well, you know, we don't know if he's a fascist.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: We don't really know if he's aping Hitler.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: It's like, no, he's directly aping Hitler.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Now, amazingly, the press barely acknowledged this story.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: Was it on the front page?
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: No.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Above the fold?
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Definitely not.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: That would be biased.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: Trump literally put an ad with Nazi shit in it, and the press just kind of went, eh, again.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: Washington Post had just three articles with headlines that mentioned unified right,
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: or just the word right at all.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: The New York Times had just one.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: One, I will never stop repeating this.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: These are two of the papers that published over 80 articles in three days about
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: Biden's age based on the statement of a clearly biased Republican trying to score
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: political points.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: The New York Times by itself keeps throwing temper tantrums because President Joe
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: Biden won't take them to the fucking prom.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: But Donald Trump going full Nazi?
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: Meh.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Not worth getting excited about.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: The press is putting its thumb on the scale so hard for Trump, it's obscene.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: That brings us to our next story.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: Again, this is the theme for the day.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: The press.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: Politico,
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: the already right-wing news site pushed further into extremism by its new far-right owners,
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: actually wrote this in an article about Trump's court case.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: This is the quote.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: It's impossible to know exactly how Trump will behave if he returns to office.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: By all accounts,
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: Trump has professionalized his 2024 campaign,
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: suggesting he learned something from his slapdashed first campaign and his 2020
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: re-election loss.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: The question is whether his views on presidential prerogatives have changed or
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: whether he intends to be guided by loftier principles.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Are you kidding me?
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: The person who wrote this, Calder McHugh, is either terminally stupid or breathtakingly dishonest.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: And working for Politico suggests that both could be true at the same time.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: There is exactly nothing Trump has said or done in the three and a half years since
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: he was voted out of office that suggests he has learned anything except how to be a
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: better monster and grifter.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: His campaign is still shit,
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: hemorrhaging money to pay for his lawyers,
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: and leaving the state parties and down-ballot candidates without leadership or money.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: When Trump loses in November,
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: he's going to lead the GOP to a historic massacre,
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: and an unusually large amount of the blame will be laid at his feet.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: Professional?
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: Professional at stealing tens of millions of dollars, maybe.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: And I am looking forward to Lara Trump,
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: Trump's daughter-in-law,
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: being arrested for embezzlement in a few years after she's ousted from the RNC.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: So, as for the rest of it, loftier principles?
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: What the fuck is McHugh even talking about?
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: What loftier principles?
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: Dictator for a day?
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: Suspending the Constitution?
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: Selling his office for a billion dollars?
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: Using the Department of Justice to arrest his political enemies?
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: How about opening concentration camps and murdering millions?
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: Or kicking off World War III by allowing Russia to invade Europe?
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: These are all things Trump has explicitly said he will do immediately upon becoming emperor for life.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: What loftier principles could you possibly think Trump would adhere to?
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: The thing about gaslighting is that it only works if people don't know they're being gaslit.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: This, this is so sloppy and ham-handed, it's fucking insulting.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: And Politico can kiss my entire ass.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: All right, we're going to move on.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: And again, continuing today's theme of what the fuck is the press doing?
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: Let's take a look at Kevin Drum's post of the Washington Post is very, very wrong about the economy.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: I touched on this today in today's post, today being Wednesday.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: But it's worth going over again because it was so egregious.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: This is from Drum.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: The Washington Post reports today that consumer sentiment softened this month.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: That's true enough, but they also say this, and this is from the Washington Post.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: That pessimism is altering consumers' spending habits.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: McDonald's,
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: Home Depot,
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: Under Armour,
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: and Starbucks all recently reported disappointing earnings as people cut back on
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: fast food,
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: kitchen renovations,
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: sneakers,
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: and afternoon lattes.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: Employers are adding fewer jobs,
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: wage growth has decelerated,
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: and Americans are holding off on big purchases like homes,
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: cars,
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: and washing machines.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: Back to drum.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: Come on, folks.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: Do we have to keep doing this?
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: Nobody has to guess at consumer buying habits by looking at fast food,
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: kitchen renovation,
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: sneakers,
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: and afternoon lattes.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: Because every month the government publishes a nice, tidy summary of all consumer spending.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: Drum includes a chart that shows consumer spending from January 2022 to March of
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: this year,
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: which is like that's when they have the most recent data.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: There are a few minor dips and a few minor spikes, but the trend is an unmistakable upwards curve.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: Drum then goes to point out that housing sales are up, car sales are up, consumer sentiment is up.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: All of this data points to the exact opposite conclusion the Washington Post article draws.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: So what the hell are they doing?
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: They're doing what the press has been doing for over three years now,
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: trying to convince the public that the economy is actually terrible and on the
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: brink of recession.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: It's insanity that they're still doing this.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: The fact that we're in the middle of the strongest economic boom since World War II,
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: and they're still trying to sell this narrative that the economy is not good.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: If you want to dig deeper into this, I would suggest reading today's article on my newsletter called
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: Again, Wednesday, whenever you're listening to this, this was Wednesday's article.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: These people are actively working to help Trump.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: And I am so very, very over it.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: Moving on.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: Just to wrap up this section of the podcast on a positive note after a parade of blah,
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: here's a fun story.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: True Social,
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: Donald Trump's shitty Twitter ripoff,
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: posted its first quarter numbers of the year,
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: and they are amazing.
- 12:55SPEAKER_00: And by amazing, I mean amazingly bad.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: Like, holy shit, wow, are they terrible.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: This is from Variety.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: Trump Media and Technology Group, the company affiliated with former U.S.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: President Donald Trump that operates TruSocial,
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: reported $770,500 in revenue for the first quarter of 2024.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know, three quarters of a million dollars in revenue, I guess.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: Oh, wait, there's more.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: And a net loss of $327.6 billion.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: that's one third of a billion dollars set on fire.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: The fact that the stock is still trading for more than a few pennies tells me that
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: it's being propped up by foreign investors as a way to put money in Trump's pocket
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: as payment for services rendered.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: There's no way that this stock is doing even remotely well.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: I mean, last I looked, it was floating around like,
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: $40, I think.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: There's no way it's doing that well on its own.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: Oh, actually, hold on.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: I got it on screen.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: Let me take a look here.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: La, la, la, la, la.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: Oh, here we go.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: It's currently at $45.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: Now, that's way down from where it started, but it's still...
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: not a terrible stock, but this is a company that is just awful.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: I mean,
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: they're not making any money whatsoever and they're hemorrhaging and they don't
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: have a business plan.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: It's not like they have some thing in the future where they're going to turn a
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: profit and it's obvious that they're going to start.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: No, there's nothing here.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: which means that stock is being propped up by foreign countries pumping money into
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: it because that money is going to go into Trump's pocket.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: Maybe someone should investigate that.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: Just saying.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: once Trump cashes out in a few months,
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: that stock is going to drop faster than Donny Boy's eyelids while he's taking his
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: mid-morning nap in court.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: Just as a quick aside,
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: Trump hasn't continued to fall asleep almost every single day of his case.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: Sometimes he just nods off a little bit, but sometimes he's passed out completely, like just completely.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: Totally dead to the world.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: At one point, he was so asleep, his head was all the way back.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: He would be staring at the ceiling if his eyes were open.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: He was that asleep.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: His lawyers have given up trying to keep him awake.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: That's how much he falls asleep in court.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: It's really important to remember that the press lost its fucking mind for several
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: months about Joe Biden's age and how he didn't have the stamina for the job because
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: he was so old.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: Have you seen any front page articles about Trump being unable to stay awake?
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: No.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: The press just forgot how important it was just 10 seconds ago for the president to have stamina.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: How fucking convenient.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: Anyway.
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: I really, really want as many maggots to invest their life savings in true social.
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: Please do it.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: Take your hard-earned savings,
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: your retirement money,
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: and invest it in your faith in Donald Trump and his wonderful,
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: wonderful,
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: shitty Twitter ripoff.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: Self-inflicted misery for Republicans is the best kind.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: All right,
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: we have now come to the end of the Ogre Nation update,
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: and it is time to move on to the Ogre Opinion.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: That's the part of the show where I focus on a single story and dig a little deeper.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: This week's topic,
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: picked by you,
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: my alarmingly brilliant audience,
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: is about America's problem coddling right-wing terrorism.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you're aware of this, but America has a domestic terrorism problem.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: Always has, probably always will.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: Some of it's from radicalized Islamists.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: Some of it is from other extremist identity groups.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: A very little bit of it is from the left.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: But the vast overwhelming majority is from the far right.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: Now, technically, radicalized Muslims are far right on the political spectrum.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: But in the United States, would we say far right?
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: We're talking about,
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: and we mentioned them before,
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: the KKK,
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: the neo-Nazis,
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: white nationalist militias like the Three Percenters and the Oath Keepers,
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: fascists like the Proud Boys,
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: the mobs of white men who lynched thousands of black people throughout the South.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: The other mobs of white men who burned Black communities to ash because they were
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: jealous of their success and because they fucking well could.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: The other,
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: other mobs of white men who stormed state capitals with their guns,
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: threatened to kill Democrats,
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: and went home that night without a single police officer cracking a single skull.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: The other, other mobs.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: Other mob of white men and women who attacked the Capitol on January 6th beat cops unconscious,
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: smeared shit on the walls,
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: left several dead bodies in their wake,
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: and were allowed to go home while the entire nation watched.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: That's the kind of domestic terrorism problem America has been dealing with for literally centuries.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: We, as a nation, really, really do not like to hold this kind of terrorism accountable.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: We don't even like to talk about it.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: We love to use euphemisms like lone wolf and talk about how video games and social
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: media are to blame because holding right-wing terrorism accountable means holding
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: white conservative men accountable.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: And America has a grand tradition of never fucking doing that.
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: In the aftermath of the Civil War,
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: We couldn't hang every Confederate soldier as the treasonous murdering piece of shit that they were.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: There were simply too many.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: And that kind of mass murder is not how you end a civil war and rebuild a democracy.
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: But we didn't hang their leaders either.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: or even put them in prison for the rest of their lives.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: Jefferson fucking Davis, the president of the Confederacy, spent two whole years in prison.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: And then he got to spend years rehabilitating his reputation and helping to create
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: the lie that the Civil War was not about slavery.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: Fuck that asshole.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: He should have swung from a rope until his neck snapped.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: But this is what America has done time and time again.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: It took years to put down the KKK.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: And then it took years to put them down a second time when they reemerged.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: We let Jim Crow run unobstructed for decades.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: Lynchings?
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: Oh my fucking God.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: I've written about this so many times because, A, I still can't believe it's real.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: And B, people never quite seem to understand the mindset necessary to do this.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: I'm not talking about the lynchings themselves.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: I'm talking about the fact that white men were so unafraid of being punished for
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: lynchings that they took pictures of themselves doing it.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: Lynchings were family entertainment.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: People bought their fucking kids to watch black men being tortured and then burnt alive.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: Take a few pictures for the photo album.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: Smile for the fucking camera, kids.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: And why not?
- 20:59SPEAKER_00: They're not really people and no one will ever be arrested or spend a single day in jail for it.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: Hell.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: A lot of the time, the police helped.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: In the Tulsa,
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: Oklahoma race massacre,
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: the police,
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: quote-unquote,
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: deputized civilians,
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: telling them to,
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: again,
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: quote-unquote,
- 21:18SPEAKER_00: get a gun and get a N-word.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: The police hopped in planes flown by deputized citizens to shoot black people from
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: the air and drop firebombs on buildings,
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: giving Tulsa the dubious distinction of being the first American city to suffer
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: from aerial bombardment.
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: Tulsa was just one of over a dozen black communities put to the torch by white mobs.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: Very few, if any, of the murderers saw the inside of a jail cell.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: We don't like to hold white, far-right domestic terrorists accountable.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: Fast forward a few decades, or more than a few decades, and we have a growing militia movement.
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: The FBI has known about them since the 90s, and they did nothing.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: A heavily armed and violent racist anti-government movement setting up terrorist cells,
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: and the FBI looked the other way.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: We do not like to hold right-wing terrorists accountable.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: After 9-11, we had a great excuse not to look too closely at right-wing terrorism.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: There were Muslim terrorists everywhere.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: Except there weren't.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: While we spent billions to spy on every mosque in the country looking for a
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: terrorist network that didn't exist,
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: we kept ignoring the growing militia network right in front of us.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: When Obama became president,
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: the number of militias doubled and then doubled again as totally not racist white
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: men flocked to grab their guns and declare their hatred of the government.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: But not because they were racist.
- 22:54SPEAKER_00: No siree, Bob.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: One of these groups, the Oath Keepers, caught my attention way back in the day.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: They were ex-military and ex-law enforcement,
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: and they swore on a stack of Bibles a mile high that they were patriots only
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: interested in defending the Constitution against government overreach and tyranny.
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: To say I was suspicious is an understatement.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: To my utter lack of surprise,
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: when Trump was elected and immediately started to shit on the Constitution and
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: abused the civil rights of everyone he hated,
- 23:29SPEAKER_00: the Oath Keepers were nowhere to be found.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: No protests, no outrage, no Oath Keeping.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: And wouldn't you know it,
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: they were there on January 6th,
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: ready to overthrow the government of the United States.
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: Now, after all of this, here's the big question.
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: why do we coddle right-wing terrorists?
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: We don't coddle any other group that we call terrorists, even if that group is entirely peaceful.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: The FBI foamed at the mouth over Black Lives Matter.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: This was long before the violence of the George Floyd protests,
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: which,
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: let's not kid ourselves,
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: were not actually caused.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: The violence was not actually caused by Black Lives Matter.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: But still, the FBI went
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: fucking crazy and infiltrated Black Lives Matter chapters all over the country.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: Occupy Wall Street, the FBI was all up in that as well.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: And those were a bunch of college kids smoking pot and banging drums.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: I don't give a shit what the papers say.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: I was there as a Dallas reporter when that was happening.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: I was living in New York.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: I was at Zuccotti Park in Manhattan.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: It was clean.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: There was no violence.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: There was no screaming lunatics.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: Definitely no weapons.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: But the FBI was absolutely freaked out.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: In fact, every single left-wing protest movement freaks out the FBI.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: But not right-wing protest movements.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: And those are the ones that gave off more violence than all the left-wing protest movements combined.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: And if the FBI had two agents assigned to keep an eye on the Tea Party,
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: that's two more than I would have guessed.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: The Proud Boys, were they even under surveillance before January 6th?
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: What about all the neo-Nazi groups popping up in the last decade?
- 25:28SPEAKER_00: Never mind the ones before that.
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: Are they being infiltrated nearly as much as Black Lives Matter was?
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: Unlikely,
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: although they're no longer being as aggressively ignored like they were in the 90s
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: up until a few years ago.
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: So, I mean, that's an improvement, but still.
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: So why?
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: Why are we always so quick to overlook domestic terrorism from the right?
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: I have a theory and I wrote about it a few years ago.
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: So far, no one has shot it down or even come up with a better theory.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: So I'm going to run it past you now.
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: We ignore right-wing terrorism because right-wing terrorism does not threaten the
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: status quo of white supremacy.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: In fact, right-wing terrorism reinforces that status quo.
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: When racist white men bomb an abortion clinic or shoot up a synagogue,
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: it's terrible,
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: but it doesn't challenge the power structure of the United States.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: It impacts those who already have less power.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: When the KKK sets a black church on fire or the Proud Boys attack a pride parade,
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: nothing in the United States changes on the fundamental level.
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: Groups that have lived in fear for generations continue to live in fear.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: Those who hate those groups get to keep on hating them without consequence.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: The status quo is maintained and reinforced.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: This country belongs to white men, white Christian men, heterosexual white Christian men.
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: But when the left performs protest movements, that's dangerous.
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: That challenges how things are.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: Black Lives Matter is a direct challenge to the power of the police.
- 27:24SPEAKER_00: Occupy Wall Street was a direct challenge and a threat to the rich.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: Whatever you think of the college campus protests,
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: allowing them to continue risks those groups congealing into a larger protest
- 27:37SPEAKER_00: movement against other things,
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: things that are more threatening to the status quo than being anti-Israeli.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: Why do you think the police keep being sent in to crack skulls when white kids are
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: allowed to riot after basketball games with zero consequences?
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: It's a preemptive move before something dangerous forms.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: dangerous to who exactly?
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: Not Israel,
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: but the status quo of white male power,
- 28:05SPEAKER_00: that would be threatened because those groups would definitely move on to something
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: that would threaten the white male power status quo.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: That's why dozens of armed white men can storm a Capitol building and the press
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: will marvel at their first and second amendment right to threaten to murder Democrats.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: But a bunch of idiot college kids screeching anti-Semitism is the greatest threat
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: to democracy of all time.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: Not, however, Nazis marching in the street and screeching anti-Semitism.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: They have to be protected by the police because freedom.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: The college kids, though, they gots to go.
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: See the difference there?
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: One group.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: Big problem.
- 28:52SPEAKER_00: The other group, the Nazis, oh, well, you know, it's their right to scream violence.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh-huh.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: As long as the right-wing terrorism upholds white power,
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: they will be protected by a system that defends white power.
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: Remember, when, oh, God, what was that little bastard's name?
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: Oh, Rittenhouse.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: When Rittenhouse showed up, he wasn't the only one.
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: There were several other people who were running around with guns and the police
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: helped them because they were there to maintain white power.
- 29:37SPEAKER_00: If a bunch of black people had showed up with guns, the police would have lost their minds.
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: But if you're a white man and you're there to defend property, blah, blah,
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: The police are more than fine with you going full vigilante.
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: They'll welcome you with open arms.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: So,
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: anyway,
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: as I was saying,
- 30:03SPEAKER_00: as long as right-wing terrorism upholds white power,
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: they will be protected by a system that defends white power.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: It's only when the system is not quite so protective of white power anymore,
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: like when a certain President Biden told the FBI to stomp out domestic terrorism
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: and he didn't give a shit what color it was,
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: that the FBI will target right-wing threats with the appropriate amount of vigor.
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: That's something to keep in mind this November.
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: If Trump gets back into power,
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: he will shut all of that down in two seconds flat,
- 30:37SPEAKER_00: and the Nazis will be free to murder and kill as many people as they want.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: True brown shirts at last.
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: The paramilitary arm of Trump's fascist government.
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: Your other choice is to keep Biden in office and to continue hunting down and
- 30:54SPEAKER_00: eliminating domestic terrorists in the United States.
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: And the FBI is starting to do that now because they have been instructed to do so.
- 31:03SPEAKER_00: So now they have created an anti-government extremist campaign.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: division,
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: which has completely freaked out Republicans who are screaming that it's political harassment,
- 31:18SPEAKER_00: which of course begs the question,
- 31:21SPEAKER_00: well,
- 31:22SPEAKER_00: if you're saying that anti-government extremists are all Republicans,
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: whose problem is that?
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: They're anti-government extremists.
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: If they're all on the right, well, that sounds like a you problem.
- 31:34SPEAKER_00: Just because you guys are violent terrorists doesn't mean that we just have to sit
- 31:39SPEAKER_00: back and let it happen.
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: Maybe try not being violent terrorists.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: So what are you going to do?
- 31:47SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 31:51SPEAKER_00: That's why it's important.
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: That's going to be it for this week's show.
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: It's a little on the short side, but there are 166 days left until the 2024 election.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: vote blue like your life depends on it, and vote Biden and make Nazis afraid again.
- 32:08SPEAKER_00: The Opinionated Ogre podcast, like the Substack newsletter, is free.
