- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 89! Can you believe it? Lucas: I know. In the last one we were at the night market eating fish balls and egg waffles. Luna: Oh, I still think about that chicken egg waffle. But today, something different. Lucas: Yeah. We're going to a place nobody wants to go, but everyone needs sometimes. Luna: Oh no. Is it... the pharmacy? Lucas: Exactly. The pharmacy. 藥房. That's the word for pharmacy. Luna: 藥房. Sounds serious. Lucas: It's useful. If you're traveling and you get a headache or a cough, you need to know how to say it. Luna: Right. So what's the first phrase? Lucas: I want to buy medicine. 我想買藥. Try it. Luna: 我想買藥. Lucas: Good. 藥 means medicine. So 我想買藥 is I want to buy medicine. Luna: Got it. So if I walk into a 藥房, I say 我想買藥. Lucas: Exactly. And the pharmacist might ask: Do you have medicine? 你有冇藥? Luna: That's them asking me? 你有冇藥? Lucas: Yes. But if you're asking the pharmacist, you say it too. 你 means you. 有冇 means have or not. Luna: So 你有冇藥? means Do you have medicine? That could go both ways. Lucas: Right. Now let's give them a symptom. Last episode at the clinic we learned I have a headache. Remember? Luna: 我頭痛. Lucas: Yes. And I have a cough. 我咳. Luna: 我咳. That's easier. Lucas: So let's put it together. You walk in, say 我想買藥. The pharmacist says 你有冇藥? You say 我頭痛 or 我咳. Then they'll give you something. Luna: Can we do a mini scene? I'll be the customer. Lucas: Sure. I'll be the pharmacist. Luna: Okay. 我想買藥. Lucas: 你有冇藥? Luna: 我咳. Lucas: Ah, then the pharmacist gives you cough medicine. 好. Luna: That worked perfectly. Lucas: Before we practice more, you know what keeps these episodes coming? It's listeners like you who support the show. Luna: Yeah, it really makes a difference. If Fexingo has been helping you pick up Cantonese, buying us a coffee is a great way to help. Lucas: Just a couple of dollars a month genuinely keeps these going. You can find it at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: And it helps us keep making episodes without any ads. Which is nice. Lucas: For sure. Okay, back to the pharmacy. Let's say you also want to ask: Do you have something for a headache? Luna: Is that more complicated? Lucas: A little. You can say: 你有冇頭痛藥? 頭痛藥 is medicine for headache. So: 你有冇頭痛藥? Luna: 你有冇頭痛藥? Lucas: Good. And for cough: 你有冇咳藥? Luna: 你有冇咳藥? Lucas: Perfect. So you can ask specifically. Luna: That's really useful. Let me try the full scenario again, but this time I'll ask for headache medicine. Lucas: Go ahead. Luna: 我想買藥. 你有冇頭痛藥? Lucas: 有. Here you go. The pharmacist says 有, meaning yes, we have. Luna: Ah, 有. So simple. Lucas: Let's do one more round. Then we'll wrap up. Luna: Okay, one more as the customer. Lucas: Go ahead. Luna: 我想買藥. 我咳. 你有冇咳藥? Lucas: 有. 呢度. The pharmacist says 呢度, meaning here. Luna: So I get my medicine. Perfect. Lucas: Let's quickly review the key phrases. 藥房. Luna: 藥房. Lucas: 我想買藥. Luna: 我想買藥. Lucas: 你有冇藥? Luna: 你有冇藥? Lucas: 我咳. Luna: 我咳. Lucas: 我頭痛. Luna: 我頭痛. Lucas: And specific ones: 你有冇頭痛藥? and 你有冇咳藥? Luna: 你有冇頭痛藥? and 你有冇咳藥? Lucas: Great. Practice these and you'll be ready for any minor ailment in Hong Kong. Luna: Hopefully I won't need them, but good to know. Lucas: That's it for today. Thanks for learning with Fexingo. See you next time. Luna: Bye bye!
