- 0:02Speaker 1: College football with Stu Gatz and the Bear.
- 0:05Speaker 2: And, of course, everyone knows the exact right time to
- 0:08Speaker 2: start a college football show is week four of the
- 0:11Speaker 2: college football season.
- 0:12Speaker 3: There's T-Bob again.
- 0:13Speaker 4: That's right. Special guest. Glad to be back, guys. Love
- 0:17Speaker 4: coming to hang out with Stu Gatz and the Bear.
- 0:19Speaker 1: College football.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Mario Cristobal, head coach at the University of Miami. Thank
- 0:24Speaker 3: you for joining us.
- 0:24Speaker 4: I just don't find any value in it. Humans, like,
- 0:27Speaker 4: just spewing.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Diarrhea out of their mouth. With Stu Gotts. I can
- 0:31Speaker 1: give a rat's fat ass about what he says or does.
- 0:34Speaker 1: And the bear.
- 0:35Speaker 4: The f * * * ing bear is awesome. You're
- 0:37Speaker 4: listening to College Football with Stu Gotts and the bear.
- 0:41Speaker 2: It is the College Football Show with Stu Gotts and
- 0:44Speaker 2: the bear.
- 0:46Speaker 3: And T-Bob is here again. Wherever we go, he goes.
- 0:51Speaker 2: T-Bob is with us as we come off maybe the
- 0:54Speaker 2: greatest College Football Saturday ever. of all time, and we
- 0:57Speaker 2: head into a Saturday that shouldn't be nearly as eventful
- 1:01Speaker 2: as last Saturday was, T-Bob.
- 1:03Speaker 3: But take it away here.
- 1:04Speaker 1: My man.
- 1:05Speaker 4: Yeah, Stu, but, you know, as you know, as Bear knows,
- 1:11Speaker 4: as all of our other fellow college football autists know,
- 1:16Speaker 4: a lot of times, like what happened last week, you
- 1:19Speaker 4: could argue that was more the exception than the rule,
- 1:23Speaker 4: where a lot of times the hyped-up weekends can end
- 1:25Speaker 4: up being a bit disappointing. Chalk rules today.
- 1:28Speaker 5: It is what it is.
- 1:29Speaker 4: These sneaky college football weekends, where it doesn't look like
- 1:32Speaker 4: there's much on paper, tend to deliver in very unexpected ways.
- 1:37Speaker 4: So I am very excited to see where we end
- 1:41Speaker 4: up in that regard this weekend. Um, real quick though,
- 1:44Speaker 4: before you did the games, I want to start with
- 1:45Speaker 4: a piece of news and I want to let, I
- 1:47Speaker 4: want to see how y'all are interpreting it, what it means.
- 1:49Speaker 4: And that is the Julian saying news. So we now
- 1:52Speaker 4: have it confirmed Julian saying out for multiple weeks, further
- 1:56Speaker 4: reporting says that Ohio state is preparing. Like they're not
- 1:59Speaker 4: going to have him for the rest of the season bear.
- 2:04Speaker 1: And we kind of hinted at it the other day
- 2:06Speaker 1: that this was probably the direction this was going to take.
- 2:09Speaker 1: And I think it is a major shakeup. in the
- 2:13Speaker 1: national title race. We don't know if Fahey or St.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Clair can come in and give Ohio State a viable
- 2:22Speaker 1: quarterback in the passing game. I think we're looking at
- 2:25Speaker 1: the Big Ten race, the Heisman race, the national title race.
- 2:28Speaker 1: The Sane injury changes everything. Now, did Sane have the
- 2:31Speaker 1: type of year we thought maybe he could have? Maybe not.
- 2:35Speaker 1: He showed some flaws, but clearly this Ohio State team
- 2:39Speaker 1: is a much different team moving forward. This is This
- 2:45Speaker 1: is not exactly like Florida State 2023 because the Buckeyes
- 2:50Speaker 1: are going to have a half a dozen games or
- 2:52Speaker 1: so to try and show what they are without saying.
- 2:57Speaker 1: But I'd be concerned right now. The Ohio State defense
- 3:00Speaker 1: is great, but there are a couple of teams coming
- 3:02Speaker 1: in where defensively they're very, very good. And we could
- 3:06Speaker 1: be seeing Ohio State involved in some games here that
- 3:09Speaker 1: you wouldn't have thought they'd be involved in at the
- 3:11Speaker 1: start of the year.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Stu, I'm going to go, you know, again, I've been
- 3:15Speaker 4: a massive fan of Stu for years and years now.
- 3:19Speaker 4: And so I'm going to pull right from the school
- 3:23Speaker 4: of broadcasting. Just throw it at Jeremiah Smith.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I don't care who you are.
- 3:28Speaker 4: It can't be that hard. It's all Julian Zayn was doing. Yes.
- 3:33Speaker 4: Jeremiah Smith had 80% of the productions. How about you
- 3:37Speaker 4: just shut up, you're recruited to get a quarterback, you're
- 3:39Speaker 4: recruited to a scholarship at Ohio.
- 3:40Speaker 1: State, just throw it to four.
- 3:42Speaker 4: Yes.
- 3:42Speaker 2: It seems like he's the type of receiver that can
- 3:44Speaker 2: make bad quarterbacks good quarterbacks.
- 3:46Speaker 3: He can make good quarterbacks great quarterbacks.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I am just amazed at what it is that Bear
- 3:51Speaker 2: is saying because I would imagine in the transfer portal era,
- 3:54Speaker 2: where guys can go anywhere, there's money to be spent,
- 3:58Speaker 2: that the drop-off from Ohio State's number one quarterback to
- 4:01Speaker 2: their backup quarterback, the gulf is that big, where Bear
- 4:05Speaker 2: has legitimate concerns about Ohio State moving forward here.
- 4:09Speaker 1: And that's what we need to look at and appreciate.
- 4:13Speaker 1: The St. Clair kid was thought to be a massive
- 4:18Speaker 1: recruiting boon. He was a highly thought-of guy. And for
- 4:22Speaker 1: him now to... probably by presumably being that Fahey came
- 4:26Speaker 1: in and played last week for him to be number three.
- 4:29Speaker 1: That's a problem. But, but the issue with the portal
- 4:33Speaker 1: is when you've got someone competent at quarterback, who's a backup,
- 4:37Speaker 1: they want to play there. They're going to go somewhere else.
- 4:40Speaker 1: So I don't think this is a 2014 type deal
- 4:43Speaker 1: with Ohio state where you've got a Cardale Jones on
- 4:46Speaker 1: the bench, who's going to come in and be fine.
- 4:48Speaker 1: And you've got an Ezekiel Elliott at running back to
- 4:50Speaker 1: help you win the national title. This is, This isn't
- 4:54Speaker 1: the case here.
- 4:55Speaker 3: And fortunately, for.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Ryan Day and Ohio State, they've got an off week
- 4:58Speaker 1: this week.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Yes, that is interesting, T-Bob, because what he's saying, the
- 5:02Speaker 2: talent is spread out more. It is spread out across
- 5:05Speaker 2: the country more, where in years past, if you're, you know,
- 5:09Speaker 2: Miami would have three great quarterbacks, right?
- 5:12Speaker 3: And they had to stay in school. They couldn't transfer.
- 5:14Speaker 2: But now a guy, I think it was Kyle McCord, right,
- 5:16Speaker 2: from Ohio State, once he learned he wasn't starting, he
- 5:19Speaker 2: transferred to Syracuse.
- 5:20Speaker 3: He didn't want to be a backup.
- 5:21Speaker 2: He wanted to start at Syracuse, led the country in
- 5:23Speaker 2: passing yards that year, and he got himself drafted, you know?
- 5:27Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I mean, it's a theme. It's actually one
- 5:30Speaker 4: of my favorite parts about the portal era. It's one
- 5:32Speaker 4: of the main reasons why I actually don't want something
- 5:35Speaker 4: like the Protect College Sports Act to pass is that
- 5:39Speaker 4: inability to hoard talent. Right. That was one of the
- 5:43Speaker 4: worst parts. It's why you're seeing the increased parity. And
- 5:46Speaker 4: there are interesting strategies to handle it. Like, you look
- 5:48Speaker 4: what Lane Kiffin did last year. He goes and gets Trinidad.
- 5:52Speaker 4: Chambliss is his backup behind Austin Simmons because it's a
- 5:54Speaker 4: proven winner on a lower level of football. Right. So
- 5:57Speaker 4: not as sought after as some of the other guys.
- 6:00Speaker 4: This year at LSU, he has this cat, Landon Clark,
- 6:03Speaker 4: from Elon. Same thing. Proven winner, lower level. Every time
- 6:06Speaker 4: he's played, he's played well. So it's like, okay, how
- 6:08Speaker 4: do you handle this? I'll say this for the Ohio
- 6:10Speaker 4: State situation. I love the facts, Bear, that Luke Fahey,
- 6:16Speaker 4: a true freshman three-star, beat out the five-star sophomore for
- 6:21Speaker 4: the job. Because that, well, and it could be that St.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Clair's a disaster and can't learn the playbook, I guess. Like,
- 6:27Speaker 4: if that's the case, then everything I'm about to say
- 6:29Speaker 4: is wrong. But there is potential that that means that
- 6:33Speaker 4: this coaching staff is being very objective in how it's
- 6:36Speaker 4: measuring their quarterbacks. And that, yeah, this kid was unheralded.
- 6:40Speaker 4: This kid is undersized. but he's better, but he's playing
- 6:43Speaker 4: better and he gives us the best chance to win.
- 6:46Speaker 4: I think that kind of makes me a little excited
- 6:47Speaker 4: to see what Fahey has to do when he's not
- 6:49Speaker 4: just thrown in there at the end of a top
- 6:50Speaker 4: five matchup. And again, you got four. Look at what
- 6:55Speaker 4: Julian Tate did on fourth and one.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Right.
- 6:57Speaker 4: The play was a bust. They'd already made the call.
- 6:59Speaker 4: He just threw it up there and said he's going
- 7:01Speaker 4: to go get it. And Jeremiah Smith into double coverage
- 7:03Speaker 4: made him right. So let's see if Fahey has like
- 7:06Speaker 4: a little Maybe like a little Stetson Bennett in them.
- 7:08Speaker 4: That said, I'm not knocking Ohio State off of playoff status,
- 7:12Speaker 4: but they are firmly out of my national championship status.
- 7:16Speaker 1: I'm glad you said Stetson Bennett because as you were
- 7:19Speaker 1: saying about this whole... three-star, five-star deal. Remember the hole
- 7:23Speaker 1: to do at Georgia. How is Jake Fromm, the starting quarterback,
- 7:28Speaker 1: how is Justin Fields not playing and Stetson Bennett? Obviously,
- 7:34Speaker 1: it worked out pretty well for Georgia, the couple of
- 7:37Speaker 1: national championships they wanted to win in that area in
- 7:40Speaker 1: that period.
- 7:42Speaker 4: Georgia is still missing Stetson Bennett and Todd Munkin. The
- 7:45Speaker 4: closest they've gotten here is Gunnar Stockton, but him coming
- 7:47Speaker 4: off the bad week. Let's get into some games coming
- 7:49Speaker 4: up this weekend. I'm going to frame this as a
- 7:52Speaker 4: triple pack, guys. I want to know who you think
- 7:55Speaker 4: is most in danger. You've got three ranked teams hitting
- 8:01Speaker 4: the road in what could potentially be considered tricky spots.
- 8:05Speaker 1: You've got No.
- 8:05Speaker 4: 11 Tennessee heading to South Carolina. You got number 15, Iowa,
- 8:10Speaker 4: heading to Minnesota. You got number six, Indiana, heading to Michigan. Bear,
- 8:14Speaker 4: what's the trickiest spot there? The trickiest spot there, I think,
- 8:19Speaker 4: is Indiana heading to Michigan.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Oh. I'm glad I surprised you with my response.
- 8:24Speaker 3: You did surprise us, yes.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Well, good. Keep the listener and the viewer on their toes.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Keep my guest host, my guest and my host, I
- 8:33Speaker 1: should say.
- 8:33Speaker 4: Yes, yes.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Thank you. Yes. How many times do you see kind
- 8:41Speaker 1: of like that air of invincibility, like you finally lose,
- 8:46Speaker 1: and then it's like, okay, we're not invincible, we can lose.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Maybe there's a little of that at play with Indiana.
- 8:52Speaker 1: I think Michigan having Tommy Carr start now, I think
- 8:57Speaker 1: that probably shows a little bit more of a trust
- 9:00Speaker 1: factor now with Carr. They didn't ask him to do
- 9:02Speaker 1: much last week. I think he only threw the ball
- 9:04Speaker 1: seven times, but Probably a good thing that he's going
- 9:08Speaker 1: to be starting. I think there's a little bit more
- 9:09Speaker 1: of a steadier hand there now with Carr. The Michigan
- 9:12Speaker 1: defense is still very good, and I still am not
- 9:15Speaker 1: sold on the Indiana offense. We've seen Hoover the last
- 9:19Speaker 1: couple of weeks barely completing 50% of his passes. The
- 9:23Speaker 1: running game has not gotten going. This is a spot where, again,
- 9:27Speaker 1: the gulf between what the Michigan program and the Indiana
- 9:31Speaker 1: program has been over the last, eternity is massive, but
- 9:37Speaker 1: not a place that Indiana's had a ton of success.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I think Michigan's kind of a live dog here.
- 9:42Speaker 2: For me, it's an easy answer, T-Bob. It's got to
- 9:44Speaker 2: be Tennessee. Just because of the letdown game, it keeps happening.
- 9:47Speaker 2: It happens in that conference. It's been happening the entire season.
- 9:51Speaker 2: They beat Alabama. I know South Carolina beat Florida last week.
- 9:55Speaker 2: They look a lot better. I know they got blown
- 9:56Speaker 2: out by Alabama earlier in the season, but Tennessee coming
- 10:00Speaker 2: off that win against Alabama, big win for them, big
- 10:04Speaker 2: win for Hypel and that program. And then they travel
- 10:07Speaker 2: to a South Carolina team, which is sneaky good. Listen,
- 10:11Speaker 2: they're not great, but it looks like they have NFL
- 10:13Speaker 2: players all over the field.
- 10:14Speaker 1: South Carolina. Yeah, they always do.
- 10:17Speaker 3: It's so weird. Right. And so it's weird.
- 10:19Speaker 2: And so I think the easy answer is Tennessee let
- 10:21Speaker 2: down spot against South Carolina.
- 10:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, look, I see a lot of merit
- 10:26Speaker 4: in both answers. Obviously, Tennessee still kind of doesn't have
- 10:31Speaker 4: a quarterback, which is crazy that they're as good as
- 10:33Speaker 4: they are, but it's because they have a top-ten defense
- 10:35Speaker 4: as dominant as anybody else in the entire country. The
- 10:38Speaker 4: only thing about Indiana Bear where I feel pretty comfortable
- 10:42Speaker 4: with them is I like to try to not make
- 10:48Speaker 4: the same mistake twice, right? And going into last week's
- 10:52Speaker 4: Indiana-Ohio State game, I was very guilty of dismissing Brian Haynes,
- 10:58Speaker 4: the coordinator, in that Indiana front seven. And I got
- 11:01Speaker 4: it shoved in my face. I thought they played great. Again,
- 11:04Speaker 4: Smith had the one play. So now it's like, okay,
- 11:08Speaker 4: last week they knew Jeremiah Smith. That's what we got
- 11:10Speaker 4: to say. Now you're going to tell me that Haynes
- 11:13Speaker 4: and this crew gets to look at this hapless Michigan offense?
- 11:17Speaker 4: with a guy making his first ever start under center,
- 11:22Speaker 4: an offense that is already discombobulated. He can't move the
- 11:25Speaker 4: ball against anybody. And I feel you. Michigan's defense makes
- 11:29Speaker 4: this a game because Indiana's not been good offensively. I
- 11:32Speaker 4: think they're only averaging like 20 points in these big,
- 11:35Speaker 4: big 10 matchups. But I really struggle to see how
- 11:39Speaker 4: Michigan's offense is going to have any modicum of success
- 11:42Speaker 4: come Saturday.
- 11:43Speaker 1: You do bring up a very valid point in one
- 11:46Speaker 1: that has been proven in a couple of instances this
- 11:49Speaker 1: season where sometimes the backup quarterback comes in, everybody loves
- 11:53Speaker 1: the backup quarterback, comes in, does great, win, and then
- 11:57Speaker 1: you get the week. You get to look at him
- 12:00Speaker 1: from a defensive standpoint. And then this Tommy Carr now
- 12:03Speaker 1: knows he's the starter. He goes in prepping in a
- 12:06Speaker 1: different fashion. So it could ultimately turn out the way
- 12:09Speaker 1: it did, obviously, with Dylan Arreola. after the USC win
- 12:13Speaker 1: was awful against UCLA. So I can totally see it
- 12:17Speaker 1: going that way. Just a lot of faith and a
- 12:20Speaker 1: lot of confidence, I think, in that Michigan defense right now.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Feels like a very low-scoring game.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Bear, you said earlier, Indiana hasn't been, they haven't been
- 12:28Speaker 2: great in these spots. And I would maintain these are
- 12:30Speaker 2: spots they've never been in.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Also true.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Every spot's a new spot for Indiana.
- 12:39Speaker 1: What T-Bob said at the top of the show, though,
- 12:41Speaker 1: he brought up these three games specifically. Yes. We've got
- 12:45Speaker 1: eight ranked teams on the road against unranked teams. We're
- 12:48Speaker 1: going to get at least two or three. No. I
- 12:54Speaker 1: have these unranked dogs at home that are going to win.
- 12:56Speaker 3: Yes.
- 12:57Speaker 2: I wish I started the show a different way because
- 12:59Speaker 2: you guys are both right about that. When you're not
- 13:01Speaker 2: expecting a great week in college football, that's when the
- 13:04Speaker 2: chaos happens because you're right. There's going to be upsets
- 13:07Speaker 2: this weekend. We know that there's so much parody in
- 13:10Speaker 2: the sport right now. And for me to suggest, because
- 13:12Speaker 2: the matchups aren't that sexy, it's not going to be
- 13:15Speaker 2: a great college football weekend.
- 13:16Speaker 3: That's usually when you have your best college football weekends,
- 13:19Speaker 3: you know?
- 13:20Speaker 4: Yeah, and I'm looking around more Bayer now. There's other
- 13:23Speaker 4: ones that I considered putting in, like BYU-UCF I didn't
- 13:26Speaker 4: quite put in there. The obvious miss here is USC-Wisconsin
- 13:30Speaker 4: feels very much like the three we just discussed. So
- 13:33Speaker 4: let's do this. We've got a lot more games to
- 13:34Speaker 4: get to. Let's take a quick break, and we'll be
- 13:36Speaker 4: back with more College Football Show with Stu Gatz and
- 13:38Speaker 4: the Bayer. All right, welcome back to College Football Show
- 14:05Speaker 4: with Stu Gatz and the Bear. Stu had to go,
- 14:08Speaker 4: which is fine because now, you know, the real college
- 14:12Speaker 4: football nerds get to chop it up here.
- 14:15Speaker 3: That's right.
- 14:15Speaker 4: This is a little two bears, one show right here.
- 14:19Speaker 4: So I hope you enjoy it. Let's start here, Bear.
- 14:22Speaker 4: There's been a lot of hand-wringing. over BYU this week,
- 14:27Speaker 4: because suddenly here the Cougars sit and they're ranked number
- 14:31Speaker 4: two in the entire country. And a lot of people
- 14:33Speaker 4: are saying, we got to look at how we do polls.
- 14:35Speaker 4: How are they number two? They're not that, like, they're
- 14:38Speaker 4: not the second best team. They beat underdogs on a
- 14:41Speaker 4: neutral field against eight. Correct. Where do you fall on
- 14:44Speaker 4: that idea, BYU number two team in the nation?
- 14:47Speaker 1: I don't mind putting them in number two right now.
- 14:49Speaker 1: They've got one of the best wins in the country,
- 14:52Speaker 1: beating Notre Dame on your home field. again, this is
- 14:55Speaker 1: the difference between polls and using resume strength of record
- 15:00Speaker 1: quality wins, as opposed to just power ratings, which don't
- 15:04Speaker 1: necessarily have a kind of a knee jerk, immediate reaction
- 15:08Speaker 1: and adjust on the fly. Like, like the, the human
- 15:11Speaker 1: mind potentially can. I don't mind putting them to, I
- 15:15Speaker 1: think reward them for the win over Notre Dame. Would I,
- 15:19Speaker 1: pick them to win the national title? Would I pick
- 15:22Speaker 1: them to get to the college football playoff championship game? No,
- 15:25Speaker 1: because there's a massive difference between the makeup of a
- 15:28Speaker 1: team that could win one game as a 10-point home
- 15:31Speaker 1: underdog in primetime in a great emotional spot and a
- 15:35Speaker 1: team that can now win three or four of these
- 15:38Speaker 1: types of games against those types of opponents on a roll.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe we'll see what happens, but maybe
- 15:44Speaker 1: it'd be why you'll get in the playoff and do that.
- 15:47Speaker 1: But this is a very tricky spot This week for BYU,
- 15:52Speaker 1: having to handle one of the biggest wins in program history,
- 15:56Speaker 1: going all the way across the country to Florida, where
- 15:59Speaker 1: it's going to be wet and hot and humid against
- 16:03Speaker 1: UCF team, which has some talent. Played Oklahoma State really
- 16:08Speaker 1: tight a couple of weeks back in Stillwater. This is
- 16:12Speaker 1: going to be a really challenging week for Kalani Satake.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Like you said, everybody patting him on the back now. Congrats,
- 16:18Speaker 1: big upset. You're in the mix now. Change the narrative
- 16:21Speaker 1: for you. Change the narrative for the Big 12. I
- 16:26Speaker 1: don't know. We've seen situations where BYU has been doubted
- 16:31Speaker 1: and they've come up with the win here. We'll see
- 16:33Speaker 1: if they can do it again. My guess is that
- 16:35Speaker 1: they will get out of the bounce house with the win,
- 16:37Speaker 1: but it is not a game that they should be
- 16:40Speaker 1: taking lightly.
- 16:41Speaker 4: Well, okay, and first off, to go back to the
- 16:44Speaker 4: original question, that was my overall point, people. I'm glad
- 16:47Speaker 4: you said it. Guys, the AP poll, it's just how
- 16:49Speaker 4: the poll works. If you win, you go up. These
- 16:52Speaker 4: are not power ratings. That's a separate conversation. Talk to
- 16:55Speaker 4: me a little bit more about UCF, though, Bear, because
- 16:58Speaker 4: I'm just going to admit ignorance here. I haven't thought
- 17:04Speaker 4: about UCF in a long time. I don't know if
- 17:06Speaker 4: I've thought about UCF since... maybe getting excited about them
- 17:09Speaker 4: with Gus Malzahn? I mean, is Scott Frost doing things
- 17:13Speaker 4: there that we should be worried about?
- 17:17Speaker 1: Well, we're not talking like 2017 undefeated regular season fake
- 17:23Speaker 1: national champs of some computer ranking. We're not talking about that.
- 17:28Speaker 1: They do need to get a little bit more out
- 17:29Speaker 1: of the running game, and their offense has been– A
- 17:32Speaker 1: bit sporadic. Oklahoma State lit them up offensively, moved the
- 17:37Speaker 1: ball up and down the field. But it's just kind
- 17:39Speaker 1: of the situation where you would expect. The atmosphere that
- 17:44Speaker 1: we saw, the emotion that BYU was able to generate
- 17:47Speaker 1: last week, it's not going to be that type of scale.
- 17:51Speaker 1: But UCF is going to see an opportunity here to
- 17:54Speaker 1: get over 500, get closer to bowl eligibility. Scott Frost
- 17:58Speaker 1: not having the same amount of success that he had
- 18:01Speaker 1: in the first 10 years, but it's much better than
- 18:03Speaker 1: what it had been last year. So just anytime you're
- 18:07Speaker 1: going on the road after a big win, you need
- 18:11Speaker 1: to figure out different ways to push your players' buttons
- 18:14Speaker 1: and make sure that they are fully motivated and fully focused.
- 18:18Speaker 4: Well, yeah, and to your point, and I think Stu
- 18:20Speaker 4: referenced it as well at one point in the show today,
- 18:22Speaker 4: but that's a common theme that we have seen in
- 18:25Speaker 4: college football this year already a lot. This year are
- 18:27Speaker 4: these letdown spots. Uh, let's head over then next, because
- 18:33Speaker 4: I think the opposite could potentially be true as well.
- 18:37Speaker 4: Let's head over to Texas A & M and Alabama
- 18:39Speaker 4: A & M hitting the road, uh, to Tuscaloosa. Speaking
- 18:44Speaker 4: of spots here, bear, I think I hate this spot
- 18:49Speaker 4: for A & M. I feel like you are going
- 18:51Speaker 4: to have a desperate back against the wall at home, angry,
- 18:57Speaker 4: locked in Alabama team. for an A & M team
- 18:59Speaker 4: that is deeply, deeply flawed.
- 19:03Speaker 1: I agree with you. What A & M has done
- 19:06Speaker 1: against ranked teams the last four games, outscored 99-32, and
- 19:10Speaker 1: it's 62-12 this year. Marcel Reed, those four games, no touchdowns,
- 19:16Speaker 1: seven interceptions. He's been sacked 16 times. They have problems
- 19:22Speaker 1: all over the place on offense. Like I said, this
- 19:24Speaker 1: is not going to be a situation where Tennessee was
- 19:29Speaker 1: able to run Alabama last year. A & M is
- 19:31Speaker 1: not going to be able to handle Alabama up front
- 19:35Speaker 1: the way Tennessee, which is amazing to say given how
- 19:38Speaker 1: good the Aggies were up front on both sides of
- 19:40Speaker 1: the ball last year. This feels like a pretty good
- 19:43Speaker 1: bounce back spot for Alabama coming off of those consecutive losses.
- 19:47Speaker 4: All right, now let's talk about one of the only
- 19:49Speaker 4: recorders on ranked matchups that we have. We have a couple,
- 19:52Speaker 4: the one with the bigger brands though is Ole Miss
- 19:55Speaker 4: at Texas. And this is a tough one to parse
- 20:02Speaker 4: because you have two teams come in, like could not
- 20:07Speaker 4: be entering different teams. with more different vibes, right? Ole
- 20:11Speaker 4: Miss has completely righted the ship following their Florida debacle.
- 20:15Speaker 4: They beat Mizzou 31-3, and the entire storyline there is,
- 20:20Speaker 4: oh my God, if they have a defense, the Rebels
- 20:23Speaker 4: are like national championship good with Trinidad Chambliss and Kiwan
- 20:26Speaker 4: Lacy and that entire offense. And here you have Texas,
- 20:30Speaker 4: whose offense looks completely hapless, couldn't take advantage of that
- 20:34Speaker 4: terrible Florida Gator pass defense. They're talking about benching Arch Manning,
- 20:37Speaker 4: but Texas is at home here. But there's no Colin
- 20:40Speaker 4: Simmons for Texas. So it's like I look at this
- 20:42Speaker 4: game there and I just find myself ping-ponging back and
- 20:47Speaker 4: forth between the different elements at play.
- 20:50Speaker 1: I hate this game from a wagering standpoint. If we
- 20:54Speaker 1: had a category on this show, like the game you
- 20:57Speaker 1: want no part of betting, this would be it because
- 21:01Speaker 1: that Texas offense is deeply flawed. And while Arch has
- 21:04Speaker 1: taken his fair share of the blame, that offensive line
- 21:06Speaker 1: has not been good at all. I was shocked last
- 21:11Speaker 1: week defensively how Will Muschamp's unit did not respond against
- 21:14Speaker 1: a a Florida team with a first-time starting quarterback. I
- 21:19Speaker 1: do worry, though, about Ole Miss now. It kind of
- 21:22Speaker 1: feels a little bit like the spot the Rebels were
- 21:25Speaker 1: in going into that Florida game. They beat LSU, and
- 21:29Speaker 1: people started talking about them. Now you get another dominant wing.
- 21:32Speaker 1: You shut down Missouri like no one has done this year,
- 21:36Speaker 1: and now you're on the road, and you're a three-and-a-half-point dog. Like,
- 21:43Speaker 1: I like talking about dogs with fleas, meaning everyone's going
- 21:46Speaker 1: to jump on and think the line looks too good
- 21:48Speaker 1: to be true, and ultimately those games lose. Ole Miss
- 21:52Speaker 1: is probably going to be a very popular underdog this
- 21:56Speaker 1: week because it's over a field goal. The narrative around Texas,
- 21:59Speaker 1: we know Trinidad Chambliss is one of the more dangerous quarterbacks,
- 22:03Speaker 1: the most dangerous quarterback in the sport. But typically Texas
- 22:07Speaker 1: has not been good in these games. Like under dark,
- 22:11Speaker 1: they haven't covered any of the times they've been favored
- 22:14Speaker 1: at home against top 10 teams. So I am going
- 22:17Speaker 1: to be sitting back and watching this game on Saturday night.
- 22:20Speaker 1: I will have no play on it. No result here
- 22:23Speaker 1: would surprise me, but it's going to create a narrative
- 22:26Speaker 1: now for the rest of the year. If you are
- 22:29Speaker 1: looking for a way to maybe attack this, if you
- 22:30Speaker 1: are looking for a wagering suggestion, like the no price
- 22:34Speaker 1: on Texas to make the playoff is probably, I think
- 22:37Speaker 1: it's only around minus 185 or so. Another loss is
- 22:40Speaker 1: going to find them at some point this year. So
- 22:43Speaker 1: I'd be looking at the Texas Dome playoff.
- 22:45Speaker 4: You know what you could call it, Bear? You call
- 22:47Speaker 4: it a Grinch game. You know, there's the line in
- 22:50Speaker 4: the Grinch song, you know, I want to touch him
- 22:52Speaker 4: with a 39 and a half foot pole. It's a
- 22:56Speaker 4: classic Grinch game here. Do you know the name of
- 23:00Speaker 4: the singer? from the original Grinch cartoon.
- 23:04Speaker 1: I've heard it. Oh, God.
- 23:07Speaker 4: It's the most beautiful, august-like old school. It's Thurl Ravenscroft.
- 23:16Speaker 4: Thurl Ravenscroft. What an incredible name. Shout out, Thurl. This
- 23:20Speaker 4: is a Grinch game, which, though, I'm going all the
- 23:22Speaker 4: way back around on because you're right. This is one
- 23:25Speaker 4: where you'd be like, okay, I just have to bet Texas.
- 23:27Speaker 4: I want to bet Ole Miss so madly that I
- 23:29Speaker 4: have to bet Texas, but even though it seems so
- 23:35Speaker 4: hard to fathom Texas losing three in a row, right?
- 23:40Speaker 4: It's like taking a multiple choice test and you're like,
- 23:42Speaker 4: is the answer really C for a fourth row? I
- 23:44Speaker 4: think it is, but I don't know here. I'm just
- 23:47Speaker 4: going to choose Ole Miss. Now from a gambling perspective,
- 23:51Speaker 4: I'm going to choose Ole Miss to win this game
- 23:52Speaker 4: because I'm just going to like, I've consistently said all
- 23:55Speaker 4: year long, Trinidad Chambliss is the best gamer in the
- 23:59Speaker 4: entire country in terms of being at his best when
- 24:02Speaker 4: the stakes are the highest and the pressure means the most.
- 24:06Speaker 4: And again, I believe in that Ole Miss front seven.
- 24:08Speaker 4: And if Keewon Lacey's healthy, then that changes everything for
- 24:13Speaker 4: Ole Miss. I'm going to take Ole Miss. This sounds
- 24:15Speaker 4: so crazy to go on the road and beat Texas,
- 24:17Speaker 4: hand them a third loss in a row, and knock
- 24:19Speaker 4: the Longhorns out in the playoff.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Not talking about Texas, but the state of Texas, that
- 24:26Speaker 1: Houston-Utah game has me really intrigued this week at Wilkins.
- 24:31Speaker 1: That Houston offense, With Hughes and Sanford and Wegman and
- 24:35Speaker 1: the way they utilize Overmeyer and that offense with the
- 24:39Speaker 1: tight end, Houston's good. Houston could very easily be undefeated
- 24:42Speaker 1: right now, losing on that two-point conversion at Texas Tech.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Utah hasn't beaten a soul. We're in a game in
- 24:52Speaker 1: the second half last week with Colorado, which kind of
- 24:55Speaker 1: surprised me. So I have my eyes on this one, too.
- 24:57Speaker 1: I was surprised from a handicapping standpoint to see Houston
- 25:01Speaker 1: that big of a dog here. Because I think Rice-Eccles
- 25:06Speaker 1: is a tough place to go. It's going to be
- 25:08Speaker 1: at night. It's going to be raucous and rowdy. But
- 25:12Speaker 1: I think Willie Fritz is a hell of a coach.
- 25:14Speaker 1: It would not surprise me to see Houston go on
- 25:17Speaker 1: the road and get this win. This is like one
- 25:18Speaker 1: of the only other ranked versus ranked games of the
- 25:21Speaker 1: week besides that Texas Ole Miss game.
- 25:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:24Speaker 1: We all had to stay up until about 3 in
- 25:26Speaker 1: the morning last week for Oregon, Nebraska. Stay up late
- 25:29Speaker 1: on Saturday night. You won't be disappointed with this one.
- 25:31Speaker 4: Yeah, and this is a game where right now you
- 25:33Speaker 4: look at the Big 12 and you could argue that
- 25:36Speaker 4: they're a bit inflated. But again, these things are going
- 25:38Speaker 4: to shake out over time. This is like functionally, maybe
- 25:41Speaker 4: not mathematically, but in many ways, you could almost view
- 25:44Speaker 4: this as like a Big 12 elimination game when it
- 25:47Speaker 4: comes to potential playoffs. I am with you. Willie Fritz
- 25:52Speaker 4: is one of the more proven winners in the entire sport.
- 25:54Speaker 4: I got to watch him firsthand when he was down
- 25:56Speaker 4: there at Tulane. I was working the Louisiana beat. And,
- 26:00Speaker 4: you know, he's got that... Hi, man! His voice is
- 26:03Speaker 4: already fucked up. He can barely ever talk 24-7. Never
- 26:06Speaker 4: heard him with the... So, like, I love all of that.
- 26:09Speaker 4: But this is purely just a time and stadium play
- 26:13Speaker 4: for me. Utah at home, 9.15 at night, Rice-Eccles.
- 26:18Speaker 1: It's just.
- 26:19Speaker 4: I think it's going to be such a foreign environment
- 26:21Speaker 4: for Houston. I think Utah's going to pass their first
- 26:27Speaker 4: major test of the season this year, though I'd probably
- 26:30Speaker 4: feel better if they still had two first-round tackles like
- 26:33Speaker 4: they did last year with Caleb Lomu and Spencer Faneuil.
- 26:37Speaker 4: So I think this is a great opportunity, though.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Utah's been winning.
- 26:41Speaker 4: We've all been down, and they haven't played anybody. Go
- 26:43Speaker 4: prove it.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Go prove it.
- 26:44Speaker 4: They're like, Utah, you've heard the noise. Everybody's saying you're overinflated.
- 26:49Speaker 4: Go prove that you're good. Go take care of a
- 26:50Speaker 4: Houston team that just had a very impressive win over
- 26:52Speaker 4: Oklahoma State. Bear, a game that we referenced in passing earlier,
- 26:56Speaker 4: USC at Wisconsin. We are not very high on Lincoln
- 27:01Speaker 4: Riley or his tenure at USC as a show here.
- 27:03Speaker 4: I think it's fair to say it's not been good
- 27:06Speaker 4: for Fickle at Wisconsin, but they showed a little bit
- 27:08Speaker 4: of life lately. Do you think the Badgers could pull
- 27:12Speaker 4: the home upset here at night?
- 27:13Speaker 1: I was really concerned with how poor they looked offensively
- 27:17Speaker 1: last week. against UCLA. It was a really good spot
- 27:20Speaker 1: for Fickle and Wisconsin against the UCLA team that just
- 27:25Speaker 1: pulled it upset, broke into the rankings, talk of the town,
- 27:28Speaker 1: and they went out there and laid an absolute egg
- 27:31Speaker 1: on offense. Look, I'm going to give USC a ton
- 27:36Speaker 1: of credit here. They went on the road into a
- 27:38Speaker 1: ridiculously difficult environment in that whiteout, held Penn State without
- 27:42Speaker 1: a touchdown in the second half, so the defense played
- 27:44Speaker 1: a lot better. Granted, it was against an offense that
- 27:46Speaker 1: can't move the ball against air. But the way the
- 27:52Speaker 1: schedule kind of breaks down here for USC is going
- 27:55Speaker 1: to be really interesting. Maybe you get a little bit
- 27:58Speaker 1: of a look-ahead spot because you got Ohio State coming
- 28:00Speaker 1: to your place, and then you got a week off
- 28:02Speaker 1: and you go to Indiana. That's where the rubber meets
- 28:05Speaker 1: the road here. You end with UCLA. That's when we'll
- 28:09Speaker 1: know more about the Trojans here. But I have very
- 28:14Speaker 1: little faith in Wisconsin, in this offense, to put up
- 28:19Speaker 1: a bunch of points. I know it looks like a
- 28:22Speaker 1: tricky spot. It feels like one of those games that
- 28:24Speaker 1: everybody is going to be on Wisconsin, the home dog.
- 28:27Speaker 1: I think the Trojans go on their own and get
- 28:30Speaker 1: it done here. I think Maiova and the offense is
- 28:34Speaker 1: going to be a problem for Wisconsin, and I just
- 28:37Speaker 1: don't think that Wisconsin's offense is equipped enough to really
- 28:42Speaker 1: expose and do the things that can really hurt, uh,
- 28:45Speaker 1: USC on the defensive side of the ball.
- 28:48Speaker 4: I think I'm with you bear because it looked like
- 28:49Speaker 4: Wisconsin had gotten maybe that first fickle signature win with
- 28:53Speaker 4: the comeback coming out of 17, nothing against Penn state. Uh,
- 28:56Speaker 4: but it's a win that is just aged like, like milk. It's, it's, it's,
- 29:00Speaker 4: it's not good. Um, Yeah, okay, I think the Trojans survived.
- 29:05Speaker 4: Even though, again, you want to talk about great stadiums,
- 29:08Speaker 4: Madison at night in a game like this is going
- 29:11Speaker 4: to be absolutely electric. Oman is going to be worth
- 29:13Speaker 4: tuning into this game just to get some of the
- 29:16Speaker 4: kind of vibes and energy from what's going to be
- 29:19Speaker 4: coming to your television. uh how about let's head over.
- 29:23Speaker 1: To head over to mickey's get yourself and get yourself
- 29:25Speaker 1: a nice little shake mickey's dairy.
- 29:27Speaker 5: Barn what is mickey's oh i don't know anything about
- 29:30Speaker 5: them i don't know you gotta talk to big cat
- 29:33Speaker 5: about this go get yourself get yourself a shake get
- 29:37Speaker 5: yourself a burger what kind of.
- 29:39Speaker 4: Shit guy are you?
- 29:40Speaker 1: Try and get there for breakfast. Yeah. Any vanilla. Vanilla
- 29:44Speaker 1: is fine.
- 29:45Speaker 4: I'm a vanilla guy too, Bear.
- 29:46Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. Very simple, underrated. Yes. Yeah. Mickey's is where
- 29:53Speaker 1: it's at. I'm glad Mikey A has my back there.
- 29:56Speaker 1: This is the show that I want to do.
- 30:00Speaker 3: I want to do.
- 30:03Speaker 1: A show about travel, college football, food, where to stay,
- 30:09Speaker 1: where to eat, airline, all the ancillary stuff. I remember
- 30:15Speaker 1: when Stanford Steve and I had the pod, we would
- 30:19Speaker 1: always do like, he would just say travel, and I
- 30:23Speaker 1: would always say like, Hartford mini Eugene two and a
- 30:28Speaker 1: half or Hartford mini Portland two plus hour death drive
- 30:33Speaker 1: stop it five guys stop it Nike like all of
- 30:36Speaker 1: the little details on there and people ate the shit up.
- 30:40Speaker 4: It was great okay we might need a Bears travel
- 30:43Speaker 4: corner because you've been all over this country like unfortunately
- 30:45Speaker 4: my college football experience nowadays for years now is just
- 30:49Speaker 4: me locked in my office on my computer watching like
- 30:52Speaker 4: five games at once i'm no longer out there amongst
- 30:55Speaker 4: the people i will say this ever since i moved
- 30:57Speaker 4: to midwest culver's has been a godsend oh that is
- 31:02Speaker 4: good fast food dude that is good fast food yeah if.
- 31:05Speaker 1: We if we get back to uh either wisconsin or
- 31:09Speaker 1: we get to to indy uh yeah i'm gonna i'm
- 31:11Speaker 1: gonna find myself a culver's and get and get a
- 31:14Speaker 1: little something there. Baton Rouge, we always used to stay
- 31:17Speaker 1: at that Embassy Suites right off of the interstate there,
- 31:21Speaker 1: right next to the original Ruth Chris there.
- 31:24Speaker 3: Yeah, hell yeah.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Hey, can I throw something out about Baton Rouge? I
- 31:28Speaker 1: just wanted somebody who went to LSU, somebody who's traveled.
- 31:32Speaker 4: I've done this, and I just want to say one word,
- 31:34Speaker 4: and I want to get your reaction.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Okay, Mikey. Ruffino's.
- 31:39Speaker 4: Oh, dude, that's all right. I, I, I, yeah. Ruffin
- 31:43Speaker 4: Roderick again, rest in peace. Uh, absolute legend. So I
- 31:46Speaker 4: actually played. So Robin played back in the day with
- 31:48Speaker 4: like air candle sec and some old school legendary lines.
- 31:52Speaker 4: he ends up coming to the face of Rafino's runs
- 31:53Speaker 4: that restaurant. And, and he was like the most, like
- 31:56Speaker 4: he was like out of a movie. One of those
- 31:58Speaker 4: guys welcoming you in, he would get drunk and sing
- 32:01Speaker 4: happy birthday. Like we would never, I proposed to my
- 32:04Speaker 4: wife at Rafino's like, like my, my, my, uh, yes. My, uh,
- 32:11Speaker 4: I have a lot of memories there. I had my
- 32:12Speaker 4: graduation from college, like family celebration dinner there. And then
- 32:17Speaker 4: like my mom surprised me with a new car outside
- 32:19Speaker 4: of Rafino's like the craziest day of my life. Like,
- 32:22Speaker 4: So I have a lot of core memories there and
- 32:23Speaker 4: actually played with Chase Claymore, who was Ruffin's nephew. So yeah,
- 32:27Speaker 4: shout out Rufino.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Cedar plank redfish. Yeah.
- 32:31Speaker 4: Yeah. I always liked the seafood.
- 32:33Speaker 1: It was really good.
- 32:34Speaker 4: I used to get the, that's the only place normally
- 32:38Speaker 4: would steak. I'm a very basic, just salt, pepper, Pittsburgh style.
- 32:43Speaker 1: Right.
- 32:43Speaker 4: But I did used to mess around with some Imperial topping,
- 32:47Speaker 4: which I think is like crab. Right. So, so, so,
- 32:50Speaker 4: so good. Um, all right, let's get into, I just
- 32:56Speaker 4: had it here. Uh, Oh, Texas tech, Cincinnati bear, Texas tech, Cincinnati.
- 33:01Speaker 4: How are we feeling about, I mean, I, I, I,
- 33:05Speaker 4: I think Texas tech is going to roll here. Uh, they're, they're,
- 33:08Speaker 4: they're so talented. Like, and, and I feel like they're
- 33:11Speaker 4: kind of rounding it for, yes, they're not. They were
- 33:13Speaker 4: last year. Right. Cause look at David Bailey. He's dominating
- 33:15Speaker 4: the NFL. Look at Jacob Rodriguez. He's dominated the NFL, uh,
- 33:18Speaker 4: But I still think Texas Tech's just too overwhelming for Cincinnati.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Cincinnati's defense is terrible. And they offensively, are they just
- 33:29Speaker 1: going to be able to run the ball up and
- 33:30Speaker 1: down the field? I don't see it at all. Maybe
- 33:36Speaker 1: it's a little bit inflated of a number because of
- 33:39Speaker 1: what we saw Texas Tech do against a bad team.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Arizona state team last week. You talk about a team
- 33:46Speaker 1: agent about with the agent, like milk coagulating and getting
- 33:50Speaker 1: rotten and moldy on the counter that win in London
- 33:53Speaker 1: over Kansas.
- 33:54Speaker 4: Like, Ooh, yeah.
- 33:55Speaker 1: Where, where the hell did that come from? But ASU's
- 33:57Speaker 1: defense is bad. So I think maybe there's a little
- 34:00Speaker 1: bit of an overreaction here to Texas tech. I don't
- 34:03Speaker 1: think Cincinnati offensively is very good. I think defensively they're bad, but,
- 34:08Speaker 1: Texas Tech should go there and win easily. We've seen
- 34:11Speaker 1: Cincinnati with some of these games at home in recent
- 34:14Speaker 1: years where they just, the BYU game was one of them.
- 34:17Speaker 1: They had a couple other games at Nippert as well
- 34:21Speaker 1: that they just couldn't quite hang in there. I would
- 34:24Speaker 1: be in line of laying it here with Texas Tech.
- 34:28Speaker 1: By the way, as a sneaky game at home next
- 34:30Speaker 1: week in Arizona could be ranked versus ranked. We're going
- 34:32Speaker 1: to find out more, and you mentioned it before, about
- 34:35Speaker 1: the Big 12 as we get on in the year.
- 34:37Speaker 1: We're going to learn a little bit more as we
- 34:39Speaker 1: get more of these ranked matchups against each other, even
- 34:42Speaker 1: though for Texas Tech, they could be the beneficiary because
- 34:47Speaker 1: they don't have BYU or Utah. I mean, they got
- 34:50Speaker 1: the game at Oak State, but not having BYU-Utah this
- 34:52Speaker 1: year could be a thing where we look at the
- 34:55Speaker 1: conference standings, and because they missed those two, we could
- 34:58Speaker 1: wind up seeing Texas Tech back right there in the
- 35:00Speaker 1: Big 12 championship game.
- 35:01Speaker 4: Yeah, kind of an injustice that the highest payroll, most
- 35:04Speaker 4: talented team also lucked into the easy schedule. But I
- 35:07Speaker 4: love Coach McGrath, so it's all good. Oh, it's great. Bear,
- 35:10Speaker 4: a theme of this show has been Kirk Ferentz to
- 35:14Speaker 4: the playoffs, okay? And I'm a little fascinated. This is
- 35:18Speaker 4: the last one we'll talk about, but I'm a little
- 35:19Speaker 4: fascinated by their trip to Minnesota here, kind of because
- 35:22Speaker 4: how the season has gone for the two teams, where,
- 35:23Speaker 4: of course, Minnesota has... The win at Washington, into the
- 35:28Speaker 4: win at home against Michigan for the first time in
- 35:31Speaker 4: 50 or 70 years, whatever it was. And then they
- 35:34Speaker 4: turn around and Purdue just dominates him. Iowa, on the
- 35:38Speaker 4: other hand, very impressive in their own road win at Washington, 41-24.
- 35:44Speaker 4: I was kind of scoring points this year a little bit.
- 35:48Speaker 4: They both had a bye to get ready for this one.
- 35:52Speaker 4: Do you think Iowa keeps it going? Friendly schedule. Do
- 35:54Speaker 4: they go on the road to Minnesota and get a win?
- 35:56Speaker 5: I do.
- 35:57Speaker 1: I think they do. I think they showed with Klinsky, right?
- 36:02Speaker 1: Is that how you say it? The backup quarterback who's
- 36:05Speaker 1: going to be the guy moving forward now. I think
- 36:12Speaker 1: that game that I was at with big noon, then
- 36:14Speaker 1: the Michigan Minnesota game was more about bad Michigan than
- 36:19Speaker 1: it was really good. Minnesota. obviously the home field could
- 36:24Speaker 1: make a bit of a difference here. But I think
- 36:26Speaker 1: Iowa is one of those teams that just is kind
- 36:28Speaker 1: of unfazed by the environment. They just have their game.
- 36:31Speaker 1: They have their game plan. They have the style of
- 36:33Speaker 1: play that they have. It's rinse, wash, and repeat over
- 36:37Speaker 1: and over again. So, yeah, I do like Iowa. I
- 36:40Speaker 1: don't know if I want to lay seven points here
- 36:41Speaker 1: or whatever. But Hawkeye– They are super alive. If they
- 36:47Speaker 1: get past this game, their two remaining road games are Northwestern,
- 36:52Speaker 1: which will be difficult. That's way more difficult than it
- 36:54Speaker 1: looked at the beginning, for sure. Yeah, Northwestern might even
- 36:56Speaker 1: be favored in that game. And Illinois, who is not
- 36:58Speaker 1: very good. And then you've got Nebraska at the end,
- 37:01Speaker 1: who you've completely owned over the last 10 years or so.
- 37:03Speaker 1: 10-2 is on the table. Iowa did the playoff.
- 37:10Speaker 3: Still alive.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Yeah, you're alive.
- 37:13Speaker 4: Ferentz making a 12-team playoff before LSU did. Kill me now.
- 37:19Speaker 1: You're not out of it yet.
- 37:21Speaker 4: No, I know we're not out of it yet, but
- 37:23Speaker 4: right now I see three two-loss teams in the SEC
- 37:25Speaker 4: that are not out of it, and I kind of
- 37:27Speaker 4: hate all their chances. Alabama, Texas, and LSU.
- 37:31Speaker 1: I'm looking at LSU's schedule, and we talked on Monday
- 37:35Speaker 1: about The barn fire and the earthquake game and Les
- 37:39Speaker 1: forgetting how much time was left and throwing the fade
- 37:42Speaker 1: to bird and then acting, oh, yeah, that's what I
- 37:44Speaker 1: meant to do. Yeah, had it the entire way. The rank,
- 37:49Speaker 1: the difficulty of the next four games for LSU at Auburn,
- 37:55Speaker 1: home Alabama, home Texas at Tennessee. Because I know what
- 38:00Speaker 1: I think is going to be the most difficult game.
- 38:02Speaker 4: I mean, with a bullet bear, it's home Alabama. I mean,
- 38:05Speaker 4: you've beaten Alabama one time in a decade. Like, I
- 38:06Speaker 4: don't care about who Alabama is. I don't care about
- 38:08Speaker 4: who Texas, who Tennessee. Like, I do not, like, maybe
- 38:12Speaker 4: you could make the argument that at Tennessee is objectively it,
- 38:15Speaker 4: but there is such a mental block with Alabama. You've
- 38:19Speaker 4: beaten them one time since, I guess you won in 2019,
- 38:24Speaker 4: and that was your first time since 2011.
- 38:26Speaker 1: Yep.
- 38:27Speaker 4: And then since then, you only had the one Jaden
- 38:29Speaker 4: Daniels year. So we're talking two times in over a decade.
- 38:32Speaker 4: And you build it over a decade. And a weird
- 38:34Speaker 4: quirk of this rivalry, Bear, you never win in Baton Rouge.
- 38:37Speaker 4: LSU does not. Alabama owns Baton Rouge in the Bear
- 38:43Speaker 4: versus Charlie Mack days in the last month. Like, maybe
- 38:46Speaker 4: not last month. Yeah, no, even then, we would always
- 38:48Speaker 4: go home and win there.
- 38:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:50Speaker 4: We just, I don't know why. So I'm desperately hoping. Like,
- 38:53Speaker 4: I would almost, I'm so fucked up in my head
- 38:56Speaker 4: about Alabama. I would almost lose every other game. If
- 39:00Speaker 4: you meant that you could beat Alabama, I'm not, I'm
- 39:01Speaker 4: not fully there, but like it would, it would legitimately
- 39:05Speaker 4: make lane Kiffin's year amongst the fan base. If they
- 39:09Speaker 4: beat Alabama, but at Tennessee is probably the hardest.
- 39:13Speaker 1: That's the one. Cause you're going to have a circus
- 39:16Speaker 1: just like you did against Ole Miss.
- 39:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 39:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:19Speaker 4: I forgot it. God, man. It turns out getting in
- 39:22Speaker 4: bed with a, a toxic partner comes with a lot
- 39:25Speaker 4: of crazy.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Exes, dude.
- 39:26Speaker 3: Like, Relax, guys.
- 39:28Speaker 4: Geez, sorry he left you.
- 39:30Speaker 3: We're hot.
- 39:30Speaker 4: I don't know what to tell you. All right. Oh,
- 39:34Speaker 4: but real quick, Mikey, if you ever find your way
- 39:36Speaker 4: back to Baton Rouge, spare you as well. Have you
- 39:38Speaker 4: ever been a superior for a superior margarita?
- 39:41Speaker 1: No.
- 39:42Speaker 4: That's a little local ball knowledge. When I go back
- 39:44Speaker 4: for that Alabama game in a couple of weeks, first
- 39:46Speaker 4: time back in Baton Rouge, year and a half, I've
- 39:48Speaker 4: already got a room renting out for me and like
- 39:51Speaker 4: 24 of my closest old friends, and we're just going
- 39:54Speaker 4: to go drink a ton of margaritas.
- 39:56Speaker 1: It's the best. I forget what Stanford Steve said. Like
- 40:00Speaker 1: a supper club or something now? Not the Auburn.
- 40:02Speaker 4: Yeah, supper club's the new hot thing. So the guy
- 40:04Speaker 4: that started Walk On's Brandon Landry, who's a Baton Rouge legend,
- 40:09Speaker 4: he started a very fancy, upscale restaurant called Supper Club,
- 40:12Speaker 4: which is a very good time as well. Very good time.
- 40:16Speaker 4: All right, though, guys, there it is, a little Baton
- 40:18Speaker 4: Rouge travel knowledge. When we get back here on the
- 40:21Speaker 4: College Football Show with Stu Gotsenbeer, we got Stu back,
- 40:23Speaker 4: and we got Bears gold, silver, and bronze medal bets.
- 40:28Speaker 4: You're not going to want to miss it. More College
- 40:30Speaker 4: Football Show with Stu Gotsenbeer. All right, guys, let's wrap
- 40:53Speaker 4: it up. Today's college promotion is you got to the bear,
- 40:55Speaker 4: which is Stu's favorite segment every single week. It is
- 40:59Speaker 4: time for the bear to lead us to the gold,
- 41:02Speaker 4: the silver, and the bronze.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Metal picks, bear.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Yes, I went against bear last week. I felt terrible
- 41:07Speaker 2: doing it, but I was right and he was wrong.
- 41:08Speaker 2: That's not a good way.
- 41:11Speaker 1: There were no medals handed out last week.
- 41:14Speaker 2: It's not a good way to promote the medals and
- 41:16Speaker 2: the picks here from the bear, but I promise you,
- 41:19Speaker 2: His picks, A, he's due, and his picks come with
- 41:23Speaker 2: far more research than mine do. I'm just shooting from
- 41:25Speaker 2: the hip. I have no idea what I'm talking about. Anyway,
- 41:28Speaker 2: with that said, Bear, take it away. The bronze medal
- 41:31Speaker 2: game this weekend for the Bear.
- 41:34Speaker 1: The bronze medal bet. We talked about the Ohio State
- 41:38Speaker 1: injury situation at the top of the show. I am
- 41:41Speaker 1: going to bet a little on Oregon. at 13, 14,
- 41:46Speaker 1: 15 to one, whatever the number happens to be to
- 41:50Speaker 1: win the big tech. Wow.
- 41:51Speaker 3: I love that.
- 41:51Speaker 1: I know that seems crazy with how terrible the ducks
- 41:55Speaker 1: offense has been, but defensively they are playing a hell
- 41:58Speaker 1: of a lot of a lot, a lot better. Yep.
- 42:00Speaker 1: They play Ohio state coming up in a couple of weeks.
- 42:05Speaker 1: Maybe Dante Moore is back. We don't know what's going
- 42:08Speaker 1: to happen with that. If the ducks can somehow win
- 42:11Speaker 1: in Columbus, they'll hold that tie break. Over Ohio State,
- 42:15Speaker 1: they will hold a tiebreak over USC. Maybe we wind
- 42:20Speaker 1: up with the rematch of Oregon-UCLA in the Big Ten
- 42:24Speaker 1: Championship game. So take a little long shot flyer there.
- 42:27Speaker 3: I love that.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Silver medal, you mentioned it earlier. Tennessee, South Carolina. I
- 42:34Speaker 1: got a better number at the start before this game
- 42:36Speaker 1: flipped across and made South Carolina a favorite. It's a
- 42:40Speaker 1: terrible spot for Tennessee. That was a game last week
- 42:43Speaker 1: where they manhandled Alabama in the trenches, ran the ball well,
- 42:48Speaker 1: made life miserable for Russell on that offense. Now you've
- 42:51Speaker 1: got to go on the road, handle prosperity against the
- 42:55Speaker 1: South Carolina team that clearly has a ton of talent
- 42:58Speaker 1: on the offensive side of the ball. So I like
- 43:01Speaker 1: South Carolina as the slight favorite now. And then gold
- 43:04Speaker 1: medal game, I had Virginia Tech last week, like Virginia
- 43:08Speaker 1: Tech again this week. getting the points at Clemson. I'm
- 43:12Speaker 1: not sold how good this Clemson team is. Virginia Tech,
- 43:16Speaker 1: that win last week, I think gets them back on
- 43:19Speaker 1: the right track. Big recruiting type game. It's a One
- 43:23Speaker 1: of the bigger games James Franklin has had so far
- 43:25Speaker 1: at Virginia Tech. I like the Hokies here to go
- 43:28Speaker 1: on the road and beat Clemson.
- 43:30Speaker 4: I mean, if you're telling me, bet James Franklin in
- 43:34Speaker 4: a big game, I'm in.
- 43:36Speaker 3: Big game games. That's what they call them. That's right.
- 43:41Speaker 3: You're sold. It was that easy to get.
- 43:45Speaker 2: Not the fact that he pours over the research. He
- 43:48Speaker 2: makes far more educated picks than anyone going. It's just
- 43:52Speaker 2: James Franklin, big game James.
- 43:54Speaker 3: I'm in, right?
- 43:56Speaker 4: Anytime something feels so bad in gambling, it's normally right.
- 44:01Speaker 1: Did you realize, by the way, Clemson has lost seven
- 44:05Speaker 1: of their last nine home games.
- 44:06Speaker 3: Right.
- 44:06Speaker 1: It's powerful teams.
- 44:07Speaker 3: Wow.
- 44:08Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:10Speaker 4: There's a similar stat, Bear, that I was shocked to realize.
- 44:14Speaker 4: LSU hasn't won a road SEC game in two years.
- 44:18Speaker 4: It's been two calendar years. And were it not for
- 44:22Speaker 4: Auburn beating Vandy at home earlier this year, Auburn hadn't
- 44:25Speaker 4: won an SEC home game in two years. With that matchup,
- 44:29Speaker 4: you got bad on bad, not good.
- 44:30Speaker 3: Yes.
- 44:31Speaker 2: Bear, I want to give you something. As a gambler,
- 44:33Speaker 2: I want to give you something. It's going to hurt
- 44:35Speaker 2: you as much.
- 44:35Speaker 3: As it hurt me.
- 44:38Speaker 2: I'm going to give you something that's going to hurt
- 44:40Speaker 2: you because you've been here as much as it hurt me.
- 44:45Speaker 2: I had a three-team parlay last weekend. I had UCLA
- 44:50Speaker 2: minus whatever it was.
- 44:52Speaker 1: Check.
- 44:52Speaker 4: Winner.
- 44:52Speaker 1: Yes.
- 44:53Speaker 3: I had Kentucky on the money line.
- 44:55Speaker 1: Winner.
- 44:57Speaker 3: I had Florida State on the money line.
- 44:59Speaker 1: Oh, that was probably a fatty parlay.
- 45:06Speaker 3: I had so many.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Fartisting. Oh my God.
- 45:09Speaker 2: I had so many cash out possibilities and I kept
- 45:12Speaker 2: saying no.
- 45:12Speaker 1: Well, why would, again, I don't know what you're, but
- 45:16Speaker 1: why would you? Yes. Like you got an opportunity for
- 45:19Speaker 1: a great, ridiculous price.
- 45:22Speaker 3: Yeah. It was going to be over $ 7, 000 had I won.
- 45:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 45:27Speaker 4: Bear was, bear was, bear was down in the dump
- 45:30Speaker 4: Saturday night too. When we were texting him, he thought my, I.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Was legit nervous.
- 45:35Speaker 4: Right.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Hopefully I will not be legit nervous on Wednesday, on
- 45:38Speaker 1: Saturday afternoon. Hopefully we'll not, we will not have the
- 45:41Speaker 1: third straight week where AP number one went down to
- 45:44Speaker 1: an unranked team. If we do, uh, we will be
- 45:47Speaker 1: looking for a, uh, another co-host next week to go
- 45:50Speaker 1: with our guests, keep up and the other hosts.
- 45:52Speaker 2: Thank you for making the proper sound there because it
- 45:55Speaker 2: sounded like I punched you in the gut.
- 46:00Speaker 3: It hurt.
- 46:01Speaker 1: It hurt.
- 46:01Speaker 3: I would have rather been punched in the gut. I
- 46:03Speaker 3: got to tell you.
- 46:04Speaker 4: I mean, And that holding call. Oh my God. All
- 46:08Speaker 4: of a sudden, Even worse. Absolutely absurd.
- 46:12Speaker 1: What about the face mask on Chase Smith? That really
- 46:14Speaker 1: wasn't a face mask. What about the goal line stands
- 46:19Speaker 1: at Miami-Made? Stop at Florida State on 4th Avenue?
- 46:21Speaker 3: I didn't mean for you to get all sensitive and defensive.
- 46:24Speaker 1: We forget about everything that led to that point.
- 46:27Speaker 2: The point of me telling this story was not for
- 46:30Speaker 2: you to get all defensive. about your hurricane. You won
- 46:33Speaker 2: the game. The point of me telling you that story
- 46:35Speaker 2: was for you to make the sound that you made
- 46:37Speaker 2: once I told you the story.
- 46:38Speaker 1: G-Bob's the one that started. Our guest that maybe started
- 46:42Speaker 1: talking about holding and this and that.
- 46:48Speaker 4: I mean, it's clear, you know. It fixes in. That's
- 46:50Speaker 4: all I'm saying. They want Miami to win. ACC knows
- 46:53Speaker 4: they need them. Look, you just worry about Wake Forest.
- 46:57Speaker 4: Wake Forest is good.
- 46:59Speaker 3: They are.
- 46:59Speaker 4: Are coming for that ass in an ACC championship rematch.
- 47:03Speaker 1: Yes.
- 47:03Speaker 2: By the way, Taylor has told me via text here
- 47:06Speaker 2: that South Carolina would be his gold medal game.
- 47:08Speaker 3: Lock of the year, he says.
- 47:09Speaker 4: Well, I mean, that kind of goes to the point
- 47:11Speaker 4: where it feels so bad. Like, you see South Carolina's favored, and...
- 47:16Speaker 4: your instinct is how in the hell is that possible?
- 47:19Speaker 4: I have to bet it. I need to rush to
- 47:24Speaker 4: my phone to bet it right now.
- 47:25Speaker 1: Yes.
- 47:26Speaker 3: It's a double reverse trap. Is that what you're suggesting there?
- 47:28Speaker 1: Oh, I love the double reverse trap.
- 47:31Speaker 3: Yes.
- 47:33Speaker 1: All right, guys.
- 47:35Speaker 4: We love you. Thank you so much. Hope you enjoyed
- 47:38Speaker 4: this episode of College Football Show with Sue Gotson-Bear. Please like, subscribe,
- 47:43Speaker 4: share with your friends, your family, your mother-in-law if she's
- 47:46Speaker 4: into that sort of thing. And, yeah, we'll be back
- 47:49Speaker 4: next week with more College Football Show with Sue Gotson-Bear.
