- 0:07Speaker 1: Hey folks, Welcome into the IRIS Students podcast, the home
- 0:10Speaker 1: of the Pittsburgh Steeters for Steelers fans across the island
- 0:13Speaker 1: of Ireland and em thenny around the world as well.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Michael McQuaid delighted to be here with co hosts Jimmy
- 0:19Speaker 1: English and Dalvog McKee after the Steeters get a novel
- 0:23Speaker 1: w to run to seven and two on the season
- 0:27Speaker 1: and as far as the first ten games or the
- 0:31Speaker 1: first ten weeks of the season, sorry have went. It
- 0:34Speaker 1: couldn't really go much better. So hopefully you're feeling as
- 0:36Speaker 1: positive or as good as we feel on this podcast
- 0:40Speaker 1: to them, whenever you're listening to us, As I said,
- 0:42Speaker 1: Jimmy and Davog are here with us this afternoon of
- 0:45Speaker 1: this morning, whenever you're listening a bit rusty from Munich. Here, Jimmy,
- 0:48Speaker 1: how are you doing? Man? You good? Good win of
- 0:49Speaker 1: the weekend.
- 0:51Speaker 2: I'm fantastic, Michael, good to see you. Great to see
- 0:54Speaker 2: you in Munich as well. A great weekend. A fair
- 0:56Speaker 2: play once again to the NFL in Germany just for
- 1:00Speaker 2: putting on an absolutely all around fantastic show. The game
- 1:03Speaker 2: wasn't too bad, surprisingly enough, not as good though as
- 1:06Speaker 2: the one we had in Land over Maryland. Great to
- 1:09Speaker 2: get the win, a convincing win despite the scoreline I
- 1:12Speaker 2: think with the Steelers definitely the better team on the day.
- 1:16Speaker 3: And shout out.
- 1:17Speaker 2: To the Irish lads I met in the Irish Pube
- 1:19Speaker 2: watching Red Zone. We couldn't get them. We couldn't convince
- 1:22Speaker 2: the bar staff to put the actual game on the
- 1:24Speaker 2: Sky Sports, so we had to make do with watching
- 1:26Speaker 2: highlights on our phone and seeing what bits you could
- 1:28Speaker 2: on Red Zone. But no, overall, a great weekend for
- 1:32Speaker 2: Irish NFL fans, a great weekend for Steelers fans, and yeah,
- 1:36Speaker 2: looking forward out to the Ravens, the real real test coming.
- 1:40Speaker 3: This weekend, so the interesting to see what happens there.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a huge weekend coming up. I know we'll
- 1:46Speaker 1: talk about it later in the week, but we'll also
- 1:48Speaker 1: start to talk about it a little bit today. And
- 1:50Speaker 1: just when you've joggled, you've jogged my memory that it
- 1:52Speaker 1: was good to see you as well.
- 1:53Speaker 4: Man.
- 1:53Speaker 1: But walking down from the Alliance were in the transition
- 1:58Speaker 1: around there where I got a taxi, I met a
- 2:00Speaker 1: father and son from Pennsylvania who were dressed up in
- 2:05Speaker 1: Steelers gear and they actually had seen or heard the
- 2:09Speaker 1: podcast as well, so they were talking about there, which
- 2:11Speaker 1: was which was really really cool as well, So shout
- 2:13Speaker 1: out to them. Definitely appreciate it that. Well, your WiFi
- 2:16Speaker 1: is as good as I don't know how. I don't
- 2:19Speaker 1: know how to compare it to the moment. I just
- 2:21Speaker 1: think the matter ten is playing up. Can you hear us?
- 2:23Speaker 1: Welcome in? How are you doing?
- 2:26Speaker 5: Yeah, hear you, Michael. Apologies again for that. County is
- 2:29Speaker 5: her own WiFi. It seems to be it's dip since
- 2:32Speaker 5: the start of the year. Don't know what's happened. Maybe
- 2:34Speaker 5: brags up kicking in finally, I don't know, but it
- 2:36Speaker 5: is working just about. But no, I have to say,
- 2:39Speaker 5: I'm very jealous of you, as you know. Although I
- 2:42Speaker 5: got to watch you know, the game live and stuff
- 2:44Speaker 5: I got it was very jealous to see, you know
- 2:46Speaker 5: how the whole event went on on Sunday in Germany,
- 2:48Speaker 5: so it said definitely something I've ticked off my boocket list.
- 2:51Speaker 5: Well I'm going to try and tick off next year.
- 2:53Speaker 5: And yeah, at least I got to watch the Steelers
- 2:57Speaker 5: pick up a win on Sky Sports anyway, so I
- 3:00Speaker 5: was happy enough on what we've seen and I'm looking
- 3:02Speaker 5: forward to breaking it down with you guys.
- 3:04Speaker 1: If anybody knew where darry Tresk was and they've seen
- 3:08Speaker 1: where this young man lives, they get what he just
- 3:11Speaker 1: said in terms of the wife, mine's not too bad here,
- 3:12Speaker 1: and then negan to be fair and draw this holding
- 3:14Speaker 1: up the thank God at the minute. Yeah, look, obviously
- 3:17Speaker 1: a huge win of the weekend, and it's one of
- 3:19Speaker 1: those things. It's the first one in a while, Jimmy,
- 3:21Speaker 1: that I've had to look back on and watch on
- 3:22Speaker 1: the Monday because of just traveling I've seen. It's funny
- 3:26Speaker 1: because when I landed on the plane, there was four
- 3:28Speaker 1: or five odds that literally were saying about I row
- 3:30Speaker 1: up the Staeers beat the Commanders, and I think I
- 3:34Speaker 1: was saying to you at the half and Sunday, you know,
- 3:36Speaker 1: this was the first one of the season where I thought, oh,
- 3:39Speaker 1: you know, this could go either way here. I know
- 3:41Speaker 1: we were really confident on the preview podcast last week,
- 3:44Speaker 1: and of course we are. We always are, especially when
- 3:46Speaker 1: you see a team and the way that they've played,
- 3:48Speaker 1: especially since bringing in Russell Wilson. But we had seen, Jimmy,
- 3:52Speaker 1: just how much, just how impressive the Jid and Daniels
- 3:55Speaker 1: was going down the stretch over the first few weeks
- 3:56Speaker 1: of the season and in a run game that just
- 3:59Speaker 1: couldn't get start on Sunday. And yes, they had many
- 4:02Speaker 1: players in games where they look good, but this team,
- 4:06Speaker 1: and I guess I'll start off with my player of
- 4:08Speaker 1: the game here, Russell Wilson looked like his old self.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Yes he had a pick on the day, but this
- 4:14Speaker 1: guy was making huge plays. Big play at the end
- 4:18Speaker 1: summed up his performance for me. The confidence that he
- 4:21Speaker 1: has genuinely excites me going into the stretch. And we
- 4:25Speaker 1: will talk about the Ravens later on this podcast a
- 4:29Speaker 1: little bit, but I think for the first time in
- 4:32Speaker 1: a while, yes, I've had confidence in guys under center,
- 4:36Speaker 1: and you always believe in guys under center to me,
- 4:38Speaker 1: but I have real confidence in what Russell can bring
- 4:41Speaker 1: this team, and he's really turned it around, and please God,
- 4:44Speaker 1: he can get there going forward and just continue this
- 4:46Speaker 1: sort of form.
- 4:48Speaker 2: I think the biggest thing for me, Michael, is the
- 4:50Speaker 2: fact that Russell Wilson seems to have really unlocked our offense.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I think the missing piece over the past couple of seasons,
- 4:56Speaker 2: and you know, justin feels did a great job in relief.
- 4:59Speaker 2: And look, we all had our various opinions and thought
- 5:02Speaker 2: on Russell Wilson. I'm more than happy to eat my
- 5:05Speaker 2: words based on the previous couple of performances.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Look, he looked rusty enough against the Jets.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Again, it's the Jets, so I wouldn't really, you know,
- 5:13Speaker 2: give much weight to that performance. Looked a lot better
- 5:16Speaker 2: against the Giants, but I think the Commanders was the
- 5:19Speaker 2: first real test he was going to have, in the
- 5:21Speaker 2: first real opportunity. He had a couple of games to
- 5:23Speaker 2: warm up, and that touchdown past the George Pickens to
- 5:27Speaker 2: start the scoring off was just absolutely sublime.
- 5:29Speaker 3: And you know, George Pickens did the hard work on that.
- 5:32Speaker 2: The way he can tour to his body to reel
- 5:34Speaker 2: in that past, I mean, that was probably the play
- 5:36Speaker 2: of the week for me. But you're absolutely right, Russell
- 5:39Speaker 2: Wilson has just come on in leaps and bounds since
- 5:41Speaker 2: he entered the starting lineup as our starting quarterback. Didn't
- 5:45Speaker 2: have the best game statistically on Sunday, I think he was.
- 5:48Speaker 2: He was eleven of twenty two Ford for two hundred
- 5:51Speaker 2: and something yards, so on paper, not fantastic, but in
- 5:56Speaker 2: terms of what he did with the big plays, extending
- 5:59Speaker 2: play and throwing receivers open, and it's all well and good.
- 6:05Speaker 2: That touchdown to George Pickens was absolutely fantastic, but the
- 6:07Speaker 2: late TD passed to give the Steelers the lead to
- 6:10Speaker 2: Mike Williams was just absolutely incredible. And I think that's
- 6:14Speaker 2: the old Russell Wilson we're now seeing. He's able to
- 6:16Speaker 2: just conjure a little bit of magic. I mean, I
- 6:19Speaker 2: watching that game back, I was like yourself. I couldn't
- 6:21Speaker 2: watch the game live because obviously it was on Sky Sports.
- 6:24Speaker 2: But watching the game the game back the next day,
- 6:27Speaker 2: watching that actual touchdown pass, I thought Russell Wilson was
- 6:31Speaker 2: about to throw the ball at a bounds and then
- 6:33Speaker 2: out of nowhere, Mike Williams enters my screen and hauls
- 6:36Speaker 2: it in for his first Steelers touchdown in his first
- 6:39Speaker 2: Steeters game, on his first Steelers and his first reception
- 6:43Speaker 2: just absolutely fantastic. So I mean, overall, I think Russell Wilson, yeah, look,
- 6:48Speaker 2: he's done a great job, and I think I think
- 6:51Speaker 2: we're slowly beginning to have a little bit of faith
- 6:54Speaker 2: that we might in fact make the playoffs and progress
- 6:56Speaker 2: past the wildcard round, this year one keep some kind
- 7:00Speaker 2: of caution, but we're I think we're beginning to dream
- 7:03Speaker 2: a little bit now.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Yeah, just on the slider caution. Obviously, we've got a
- 7:09Speaker 1: huge game of the weekend against the Ravens, and I
- 7:11Speaker 1: can exclusively reveal for anybody who listens to this on
- 7:13Speaker 1: a Tuesday before it comes out, the game is on
- 7:17Speaker 1: Sky Sports this Sunday. So the Staters getting their primetime
- 7:22Speaker 1: come up ins for US prime Time two weeks in
- 7:25Speaker 1: a row. Great to see the Staters on on television
- 7:27Speaker 1: over here as well. So when yeah, that that will
- 7:29Speaker 1: be confirmed on Wednesday, but it's definitely on Sky Sports.
- 7:34Speaker 1: That bog A name was mentioned there. Mike Williams, Welcome
- 7:38Speaker 1: to Pittsburgh. Talk about reading that new stuff.
- 7:43Speaker 5: I mean, first catches Stael, the first touchdown a Steeler,
- 7:46Speaker 5: I mean he's had more action in a space of
- 7:49Speaker 5: a couple of seconds, and he had in New York
- 7:51Speaker 5: all all all seasons. So obviously delighted for him. And
- 7:56Speaker 5: we did sort of break it down last week. We did,
- 7:58Speaker 5: of course, meself and Jimmy had I mean, he wasn't
- 8:01Speaker 5: number one on our wish list, but at the same time,
- 8:04Speaker 5: whatever comes along we're gonna take it. And the good
- 8:06Speaker 5: thing about the Steelers is we make you know, the
- 8:08Speaker 5: receivers come in and we sort of tend to make
- 8:11Speaker 5: the receivers better. That's just sort of how we rolled.
- 8:14Speaker 5: We're so good at producing, like getting the best out
- 8:16Speaker 5: of players, whether the people think he's mediocre or not.
- 8:19Speaker 5: He was a first round draft pick and he had
- 8:22Speaker 5: an amazing season with Justin Herbert under center. And he
- 8:25Speaker 5: comes in first game and he has that massive, big
- 8:27Speaker 5: of an impact. It was just fantastic see. So I
- 8:29Speaker 5: was delighted to see that. And because he's had a
- 8:32Speaker 5: tough time in New York, our Rodgers, I believe, called
- 8:35Speaker 5: him out after one game and he said he was
- 8:37Speaker 5: running the wrong routes. Well, he run the right route
- 8:39Speaker 5: on Sunday and it ended up being the win and score.
- 8:41Speaker 5: So I was delighted to see that.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Just before we go on forward, let's hear what Mike
- 8:46Speaker 1: Tomlin had to say after this huge win in Maryland.
- 8:50Speaker 6: Man, I'm really appreciative of the efforts of the guys.
- 8:53Speaker 7: You know, from a technical standpoint, I was really aggressive
- 8:56Speaker 7: today and didn't always serve us well. We took the
- 8:59Speaker 7: ball to start the game, we didn't do anything with it,
- 9:02Speaker 7: and that probably positioned them to book in half the
- 9:05Speaker 7: way that they did. They got the last possession the
- 9:07Speaker 7: first half, the first possession of the second half, and
- 9:10Speaker 7: I thought those fourteen points really changed the you know,
- 9:13Speaker 7: the texture of the game.
- 9:15Speaker 6: But but you live, man.
- 9:16Speaker 7: You can't come in hostile environments versus good people and
- 9:19Speaker 7: not be aggressive, aggressively pursue victory. We're not gonna live
- 9:22Speaker 7: in our fears. That's just how we get down. Same
- 9:25Speaker 7: thing on the fake punt, that is me. I own
- 9:29Speaker 7: that I'll do it again. But we didn't execute it,
- 9:33Speaker 7: and so it was a bad idea. But our guys fought.
- 9:36Speaker 7: They didn't blink. We got contributions in all three phases.
- 9:40Speaker 7: We got contributions from old Steelers like Cam has been
- 9:43Speaker 7: around forever. We got contributions from new Stealers man like
- 9:46Speaker 7: Mike Williams and Preston, and we disappreciative of all parties involved.
- 9:50Speaker 6: It's a good team win.
- 9:51Speaker 7: When you're coming into a environment like this, man, you
- 9:53Speaker 7: find a way to get it done. Not only is
- 9:56Speaker 7: it a well runed victory, Man, but there's some real
- 9:58Speaker 7: growth associated with it. Knowledge is self individually and collectively
- 10:03Speaker 7: Man is a component of this thing as we push
- 10:05Speaker 7: through this journey, Man and we learned a little bit
- 10:08Speaker 7: about ourselves, hopefully in a positive way. Today. We had
- 10:11Speaker 7: a lot of bumps and bruises. Some people were able
- 10:14Speaker 7: to go back here. Two that I think did not.
- 10:17Speaker 7: Dante Jackson with a hamstring did not. Alex high Smith
- 10:20Speaker 7: with an ankle did not. I think everybody else kind
- 10:23Speaker 7: of in some form of fashion got back in the game.
- 10:25Speaker 8: Questions, aggressive mindset and Mike assume you aren't going to
- 10:29Speaker 8: go for it, Darren for them to try.
- 10:31Speaker 6: We'll never know, will we? You know I'm a degenerate.
- 10:36Speaker 8: You seen that Russell Wilson throw like that over the
- 10:39Speaker 8: years that just throw it up there?
- 10:41Speaker 6: Any connection?
- 10:41Speaker 7: I've seen it a few times on highlight shows, just
- 10:44Speaker 7: a little better in person.
- 10:45Speaker 4: Believe it?
- 10:46Speaker 6: How graps did?
- 10:47Speaker 7: Mike?
- 10:47Speaker 6: Will youam have the entire off that?
- 10:50Speaker 1: What was he you think he would be able to
- 10:51Speaker 1: give you today?
- 10:52Speaker 6: He's a veteran guy, he's a quick study.
- 10:55Speaker 7: We didn't throw everything at him, but we threw enough,
- 10:57Speaker 7: particularly the one dimensional ball though you know, the passing circumstances.
- 11:01Speaker 7: We didn't want them over there standing with us at
- 11:03Speaker 7: the wayiest of moments.
- 11:05Speaker 6: Was coming binged up or herd or any or or
- 11:09Speaker 6: yeah big man one on one ball.
- 11:11Speaker 9: Yes, sir, it's the closest NFL team.
- 11:13Speaker 8: I know it's seven.
- 11:15Speaker 5: You're so focused on the game day and everything like that,
- 11:17Speaker 5: but it's nice to come back here.
- 11:20Speaker 7: You're right, I'm focused on the game. I appreciate my home,
- 11:24Speaker 7: but I'm working today.
- 11:25Speaker 4: I think the quality of the receptions you at from
- 11:28Speaker 4: the received courts.
- 11:30Speaker 7: You know, I've been trying to tell you guys all
- 11:31Speaker 7: year or that they make the plays when called upon,
- 11:34Speaker 7: and you know that's just the mindset and idea.
- 11:36Speaker 6: Their efforts make it real and so keep watching.
- 11:39Speaker 8: Like you mentioned that, this is a team that never
- 11:42Speaker 8: installed on fourth down.
- 11:43Speaker 6: It was a critical stall.
- 11:44Speaker 7: For you guys leading the game big time, you know,
- 11:46Speaker 7: But we did a lot today that you know, they
- 11:49Speaker 7: weren't accustomed to. You know, they only had thirteen three
- 11:52Speaker 7: and outs through nine football games. That was an agenda
- 11:55Speaker 7: of ours. Forty seven percent of their drives reached the
- 11:58Speaker 7: red zone. That was in the gen of ours. They're
- 12:02Speaker 7: dangerous group, they're hot group. But we want to be
- 12:05Speaker 7: the fireman. We want to put that stuff out So
- 12:07Speaker 7: what does to say about this team losing the turnover
- 12:10Speaker 7: battle but still fighting a way when the game you know,
- 12:14Speaker 7: to the guys go to credit they're tough minded, they are,
- 12:20Speaker 7: you know, particularly some of the field position things man
- 12:24Speaker 7: in the second half man they had big kick returns
- 12:25Speaker 7: and things of that nature. Our defense really got tight
- 12:30Speaker 7: when they needed to man And can't say enough about
- 12:32Speaker 7: the efforts of guys like James Pierre and guys like
- 12:35Speaker 7: that had an opportunity to step up because of an
- 12:38Speaker 7: attrition component of play.
- 12:40Speaker 8: You come in thinking you try that early.
- 12:42Speaker 9: Absolutely, Michael, you get some version of this question a lot.
- 12:46Speaker 2: But Washington is trying to get where y'all have been
- 12:49Speaker 2: for forty years in terms of consistency year after year.
- 12:52Speaker 6: What's the biggest challenge to meeting that standard every year?
- 12:56Speaker 6: And how do you how do you go about doing it?
- 12:59Speaker 7: I think, I think I And we just have a
- 13:02Speaker 7: small picture mentality. We don't talk about the challenges of
- 13:05Speaker 7: present day in reference to what's happened. We feel the
- 13:08Speaker 7: urgency of nail that stuff that's on our resume is
- 13:11Speaker 7: just on our resume. There's enough to have your attention
- 13:14Speaker 7: in present day, and that's what we that's where we
- 13:17Speaker 7: state mentally.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Listening to the Irish Series podcast as we look back
- 13:23Speaker 1: on week ten and start to look out week eleven
- 13:25Speaker 1: and Michael McCready delighted to be joined by Jimmy English
- 13:28Speaker 1: and David McKee, but come to hear a little bit
- 13:30Speaker 1: from a couple of guys have played in that big
- 13:33Speaker 1: win on Sunday. We've got Russell Wilson and George Peckins
- 13:36Speaker 1: here given their thoughts after such a big victory.
- 13:39Speaker 10: You gotta love clutch moments, you know, you get guys
- 13:41Speaker 10: that can make blaze and do things for you. You know,
- 13:44Speaker 10: first of all, big Mic over there, just traded for him.
- 13:47Speaker 10: You know, he's tremendous football player. We got GP on
- 13:50Speaker 10: the right, Van on the right, you know, and you
- 13:53Speaker 10: know those guys, you know, Pat showed up in the
- 13:55Speaker 10: big ways. I mean, just guys just stepped up in
- 13:56Speaker 10: key moments and just another great moment.
- 13:58Speaker 4: You know, when you're playing the.
- 14:00Speaker 10: Game is it's a collection I don't know, seventy five
- 14:02Speaker 10: plays and you want to see how many great moments
- 14:04Speaker 10: you can have.
- 14:05Speaker 4: And when we had that one in the key, key
- 14:06Speaker 4: part of the game, obviously you've.
- 14:08Speaker 8: Had a lot of obviously over your years satisfying throws touchdowns, but.
- 14:12Speaker 6: That seemed to be real satisfying to your reaction.
- 14:14Speaker 8: After you may have hit that.
- 14:16Speaker 4: Yeah, every time we win, it's satisfying, you know. That's
- 14:20Speaker 4: you know it was. It was a big time catch
- 14:22Speaker 4: by Mike.
- 14:23Speaker 10: You know, I just try to give him a chance,
- 14:24Speaker 10: you know, and let him do his thing, you know,
- 14:26Speaker 10: as the guy's had, you know, three plus thousand yard
- 14:29Speaker 10: seasons over his career, a guy who's made plays, a
- 14:32Speaker 10: guy who's faced some adversity.
- 14:34Speaker 4: You know, you love it when guys face adversity.
- 14:36Speaker 10: And they come through on the other end of it,
- 14:37Speaker 10: you know, And you know, he had a great week
- 14:39Speaker 10: of practice.
- 14:39Speaker 4: I thought all of our guys had a great week
- 14:41Speaker 4: of practice. We battled.
- 14:42Speaker 10: We knew this is a really good football team, really
- 14:44Speaker 10: good football team, and they play.
- 14:45Speaker 4: They play hard, they play tough throughout the game, and
- 14:48Speaker 4: we knew that was gonna come down to the wire,
- 14:49Speaker 4: and we made it when we needed it.
- 14:51Speaker 5: Hard to do that with a guy that they were
- 14:53Speaker 5: just got here, you had that little time with you know,
- 14:56Speaker 5: he's had that little time to get into the off
- 14:58Speaker 5: a top diffic goes that before.
- 14:59Speaker 10: Now you know, I think that when you throw so
- 15:02Speaker 10: many footballs and you play with so many different talented
- 15:04Speaker 10: guys and everything else. But really it's a credit to Mike,
- 15:07Speaker 10: you know, just studying the film, you know, and understanding
- 15:11Speaker 10: all the extra time that we put in this week.
- 15:14Speaker 4: Just having confidence in the people around you. That's what
- 15:16Speaker 4: makes football so great. You know.
- 15:17Speaker 10: We had confidence in the defense to get a huge
- 15:19Speaker 10: stop they did, you know, just guys answering the call.
- 15:22Speaker 10: You know, the ability to respond in the midst of
- 15:24Speaker 10: adversity is really what's important. And we could do it
- 15:27Speaker 10: as a collective effort and do it collectively as as
- 15:30Speaker 10: a team and everybody not blinking.
- 15:33Speaker 4: You know. We look forward to those moments and we
- 15:34Speaker 4: know that we believe that we can win them. And
- 15:37Speaker 4: sure enough we did today leading up to that.
- 15:40Speaker 6: Fourth and one.
- 15:41Speaker 2: And what talking about leading up to that fourth and
- 15:44Speaker 2: one and what's the key to getting that into work?
- 15:47Speaker 10: Yeah, I think the biggest thing is we're trying to
- 15:48Speaker 10: get another first time. We almost got one. CP almost
- 15:50Speaker 10: got it. That was close, and it's just trust is
- 15:53Speaker 10: trust and coach Tomlin what decision he wants to make
- 15:55Speaker 10: and how we want to go about it. You know,
- 15:58Speaker 10: we have the mentality of you know, making a play
- 16:01Speaker 10: and depending on what we were gonna do, and uh,
- 16:03Speaker 10: you know, I'm not gonna tell you guys what we
- 16:04Speaker 10: were gonna do, but uh, you know what we what
- 16:07Speaker 10: we were able to conference. There was huge obviously that
- 16:09Speaker 10: first down, just to celebrate together. Know we won the game,
- 16:13Speaker 10: right there was huge.
- 16:13Speaker 8: Did get them home went up?
- 16:16Speaker 10: Yeah, It's definitely hard counted and try to get them
- 16:18Speaker 10: to go. But I think, you know, got answers on
- 16:21Speaker 10: different things that we want to do, and you know,
- 16:24Speaker 10: I'm gonna play a little cool way and I tell
- 16:25Speaker 10: you guys, what we're doing.
- 16:26Speaker 8: Was the win affecting some of the deep ones.
- 16:30Speaker 4: The win was definitely real today.
- 16:31Speaker 10: But I you know, I you know, I think we
- 16:33Speaker 10: could you know, I could have made a couple more throws.
- 16:35Speaker 4: I mean, the deep one, the GP.
- 16:37Speaker 10: I'm trying to give them a chance, and you know
- 16:38Speaker 10: it's just you know, you try to launch it down
- 16:40Speaker 10: there to them and you know, most of the time
- 16:42Speaker 10: it works, and that time it didn't.
- 16:43Speaker 4: But it was really a long punt, you know, and
- 16:45Speaker 4: says all right, let's go.
- 16:46Speaker 10: You know, but we you know the thing about us
- 16:47Speaker 10: is that you know, I think the biggest thing, and
- 16:50Speaker 10: coach talked about it at the end of the week,
- 16:52Speaker 10: is in these moments, these critical games and these these
- 16:55Speaker 10: fun games that we have coming up and all that
- 16:57Speaker 10: and the battles that we have coming up, it's it.
- 17:00Speaker 10: It's not about worrying about what happens or this, and
- 17:02Speaker 10: that's about being the moment, you know, being so locked
- 17:05Speaker 10: into the moment and loving the moment so much that
- 17:07Speaker 10: you can't miss it, you know.
- 17:08Speaker 4: And and sure enough we were able to do that.
- 17:10Speaker 4: I think the offense line did a tremendous job. We battled.
- 17:13Speaker 10: I thought guys responded in the midst of adversity. Like I said,
- 17:16Speaker 10: I think we we just we needed to answer the call.
- 17:19Speaker 10: And once we got that touchdown, the defense stood up
- 17:21Speaker 10: like the best defense in the world that they are,
- 17:23Speaker 10: and that was huge for us.
- 17:24Speaker 8: George, which of those catches was more satisfying, I bet
- 17:27Speaker 8: you're done. The thirty forty yards slammed or the tap
- 17:29Speaker 8: on the side.
- 17:30Speaker 11: I probably say all of them. They all help the team,
- 17:33Speaker 11: you know, you know, get us a victory.
- 17:34Speaker 9: So all of us.
- 17:36Speaker 8: With your reaction when it's over the years and I
- 17:39Speaker 8: don't know how much you watched Russ over the years,
- 17:41Speaker 8: but you know we've seen that pass from him many
- 17:43Speaker 8: many times a year.
- 17:43Speaker 4: He did it again on the touchdown to Mike.
- 17:45Speaker 11: Yeah, I'll probably just say, you know, letting the ball loose.
- 17:49Speaker 11: That's one of his biggest components of his game, trusting
- 17:52Speaker 11: the receivers. You know, when it's a certain coverage, when
- 17:54Speaker 11: you see certain space front poland, back poland, he's going
- 17:58Speaker 11: to release it. So his mentality for throwing abolished for sure, Superbe.
- 18:02Speaker 7: Georgia is Russ was just saying your relationship out quickly,
- 18:06Speaker 7: it's bro your standboards.
- 18:07Speaker 4: Why is that grows?
- 18:09Speaker 11: I'll probably just say repetition for sure, going after practice
- 18:13Speaker 11: thing before practice, watching means watching films and you know,
- 18:16Speaker 11: other guys so we can get our connection, you know,
- 18:19Speaker 11: to where's a one.
- 18:20Speaker 9: I'll probably say that's the most sting the very press
- 18:22Speaker 9: I've been your prostra offens today.
- 18:24Speaker 7: I get you since coming in so getting had to
- 18:26Speaker 7: put up some numbers off pensivelate today both.
- 18:28Speaker 11: Oh yeah, for sure with the offense they had, that's
- 18:30Speaker 11: you know, it's kind of college base, which is you know,
- 18:33Speaker 11: kind of hot home.
- 18:34Speaker 9: A lot of r PO, you know r PO slants.
- 18:37Speaker 9: We knew that we was not how to put up points.
- 18:39Speaker 3: For sure, George Stewart break another wire receiver to help
- 18:42Speaker 3: free you up.
- 18:43Speaker 6: And to get into another victoria to work into both ways.
- 18:45Speaker 6: What was it like for you? How much did it
- 18:47Speaker 6: help you to have the presence of Michael Ware?
- 18:49Speaker 9: Oh it's great man. He made a big time play too,
- 18:52Speaker 9: So that's that's really all I can say.
- 18:55Speaker 3: Could you talk with him to you know, keep him
- 18:57Speaker 3: in beach, keep him kind of?
- 18:58Speaker 1: He said he hadn't. He was playing a lot to
- 19:00Speaker 1: that point.
- 19:01Speaker 3: He was trying to stay locked in on the satellite.
- 19:03Speaker 6: Yeah, we knew.
- 19:04Speaker 9: Situationally.
- 19:05Speaker 11: I told him, situationally, just stay in it because a
- 19:07Speaker 11: guy with his size, you know, fourth down, you know
- 19:10Speaker 11: what I mean, two minutes, but when it's weighing it down,
- 19:12Speaker 11: we're looking for guys like that.
- 19:14Speaker 9: So I just told him, you know, stay in it.
- 19:16Speaker 1: And after we hear from the guys on the Iris
- 19:18Speaker 1: series podcast, Let's look ahead, and I guess you know what. Firstly, Jimmy,
- 19:24Speaker 1: before we look ahead, was there any other aspect of
- 19:26Speaker 1: that game on Sunday night which really pleased you? I Mean,
- 19:29Speaker 1: we've mentioned a couple of things but George Pickens really
- 19:32Speaker 1: starting to come out of a shell as well. And
- 19:34Speaker 1: I think to grit, like to have that grit to
- 19:36Speaker 1: get that result, because I feel like if you played
- 19:39Speaker 1: that game twenty thirty times, you get a different result
- 19:42Speaker 1: each time either way. It just it just feels like
- 19:45Speaker 1: if anything is going to give this team confidence, it's
- 19:48Speaker 1: going into a stadium like that, albeit when you got
- 19:50Speaker 1: some of the best fans in the world being there,
- 19:53Speaker 1: way more than other teams will have. Just so much,
- 19:57Speaker 1: like so many things impressed me, Cam Heyward as well
- 19:59Speaker 1: as there's a man impressed the Smiff as well, great
- 20:01Speaker 1: players and defense. Have you anything else you want to
- 20:03Speaker 1: on it?
- 20:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd just like to give a shout out to
- 20:07Speaker 2: mink If Fitzpatrick make.
- 20:08Speaker 3: I think he's been quietly contributing this season.
- 20:11Speaker 2: I mean, he hasn't been his usual self in terms
- 20:14Speaker 2: of ball hawking and reeling in turnovers or interceptions. He's
- 20:17Speaker 2: been more playing and in the box role as a
- 20:20Speaker 2: as almost like an additional linebacker. And he's been instrumental
- 20:23Speaker 2: in stopping the run this year and the shutting down plays.
- 20:25Speaker 2: And I think he's he's definitely been flying under the
- 20:27Speaker 2: raidar so just definitely to give him a bit of
- 20:30Speaker 2: a shout out.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Patrick Queen had a great game, I thought, in terms.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Of run stopping. Also been coverage a couple of occasions
- 20:37Speaker 2: as well. So great to see that you mentioned the
- 20:40Speaker 2: fans there, like Steeters fans, we know it ourselves to
- 20:42Speaker 2: the best.
- 20:43Speaker 3: In the world. They'll travel all around the country the
- 20:46Speaker 3: chance of here we go.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Steeters and mouth were ringing out through the speakers when
- 20:50Speaker 2: I was watching the game back, despite the commander's best
- 20:53Speaker 2: efforts to drown out the terrible tells one look, if
- 20:57Speaker 2: I could be nitpicking, I suppose one thing that kind
- 20:59Speaker 2: of confused me was the decision to.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Go was to throw a fake punt.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Run the fake punt in a shot of your own
- 21:06Speaker 2: end zone four to fifteen, and if you try to
- 21:08Speaker 2: run a fake punt.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Didn't love that decision. I questioned the logic there.
- 21:13Speaker 2: If it was a short fourth down, fair enough. It
- 21:17Speaker 2: was also the games Pierre was the intended target. He's
- 21:20Speaker 2: a defensive back. He doesn't often see rotation, so I
- 21:23Speaker 2: think he could have had a deaf wide receiver out there. Potentially,
- 21:27Speaker 2: Van Jefferson may be disguised as a gunner, so look
- 21:31Speaker 2: that's the minor thing. I think if we had lost
- 21:33Speaker 2: the game, there'd be a lot more scrutiny on that
- 21:35Speaker 2: decision and Arthur Smith's decision to run that play, But
- 21:38Speaker 2: overall we got the result. It's a massive scalp. I mean,
- 21:41Speaker 2: it really is. We held Jayden Daniels to his worst
- 21:43Speaker 2: game all season and really stimmied him and got after him.
- 21:47Speaker 2: I think it were perhaps the biggest the stiffest test
- 21:50Speaker 2: that that that the young quarterback faced all year was
- 21:53Speaker 2: that Steers defense. But overall, absolutely delighted with the win
- 21:57Speaker 2: and looking forward and out to Baltimore that the the
- 22:00Speaker 2: fun starts with the AOC Nor I can't wait.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Davog just before we look ahead to that very quickly.
- 22:06Speaker 1: We've seen so many teams, especially in the first four
- 22:09Speaker 1: to five weeks this season. I'm not name them because
- 22:11Speaker 1: they don't want to have fan fans, but you know,
- 22:14Speaker 1: we've seen teams start the season off really well. We've
- 22:16Speaker 1: seen players come out of the shells really really well
- 22:18Speaker 1: as well, but then we've seen teams drop off a bit.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Consistency seems to be just averaging across and if we
- 22:24Speaker 1: can keep this going, keep this sent them up you're
- 22:27Speaker 1: gonna be happy one come Christmas Day.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 22:31Speaker 5: I mean if you look at our look at our record,
- 22:33Speaker 5: I mean, think the feel that we're saving two and
- 22:37Speaker 5: with one of the most difficult schedules in the NFL,
- 22:39Speaker 5: It's it's just absolutely mind going. And our average, it
- 22:41Speaker 5: is like our average is just above everybody else's average.
- 22:44Speaker 5: I mean, we're continuously getting win season. As we all know,
- 22:47Speaker 5: Mike Tommland has this record where he has never had
- 22:49Speaker 5: a lose in the season. It just seems that, you know,
- 22:52Speaker 5: as Steelers fans, we are blessed with this sort of
- 22:54Speaker 5: composure and and and likeliness within our within our organization.
- 22:59Speaker 5: Sorry so so yeah, I'm absolutely buzzing. Just obviously to
- 23:02Speaker 5: touch on the game as well. And of course the
- 23:05Speaker 5: faate ponte was risky and I thought even it was
- 23:07Speaker 5: executed quite brilliantly. But at the same time, James Pierre,
- 23:10Speaker 5: I mean, as Jimmy just said there, he doesn't get
- 23:12Speaker 5: a lot of snaps, so he's gonna drop it there unfortunately.
- 23:14Speaker 5: But I thought the execution was good and I didn't
- 23:16Speaker 5: love the play either. I thought, why are we throwing
- 23:19Speaker 5: it here now? You know, to take a risk out
- 23:21Speaker 5: of all times that they do it now, I didn't
- 23:23Speaker 5: love it, and but obviously sad this team. She was
- 23:26Speaker 5: just never yield spirit, you know, so customable, like the
- 23:28Speaker 5: fans of this team, a lot of spirit you know,
- 23:31Speaker 5: had long by Russell Wilson. I mean just obviously looking
- 23:34Speaker 5: on the starts, we're now averaging over thirty points, three
- 23:36Speaker 5: hundred and eighty two offensive yards per game since he's
- 23:39Speaker 5: come in under center, So who would have thought that
- 23:41Speaker 5: last year and experience in certain situations is a couple
- 23:44Speaker 5: of huge third down completions. I recall one to Calvin
- 23:47Speaker 5: Austin as well, where he had a scramble he was
- 23:49Speaker 5: faight and thign Calvin Austin for the first time and
- 23:51Speaker 5: obvious an incredible play and you know that a build
- 23:53Speaker 5: it for the hard kind, just to catch the commanders
- 23:55Speaker 5: off the end of the game, you know, on the
- 23:57Speaker 5: on the rookie who have to feel sorry for, but
- 23:59Speaker 5: just incredible, you know, composure experience that we get. Russell
- 24:03Speaker 5: Wilson just as touched on it as well defensively immage justither.
- 24:08Speaker 5: It is interesting because Giden and Daniels had a QBR
- 24:10Speaker 5: I think it was sixty eight and a half, which
- 24:12Speaker 5: is by far his worst career game of his career
- 24:15Speaker 5: so far, so that speaks volume to how well the
- 24:17Speaker 5: defense did on Sunday and Pop the Queen as well
- 24:20Speaker 5: stood out for me, but just the final one as well.
- 24:22Speaker 5: I've seen a few people question as well the spot
- 24:24Speaker 5: for the zach Arts completion, you know, people complaining saying
- 24:27Speaker 5: that the Rafts handed us the game addressed. You know,
- 24:30Speaker 5: I didn't see any complaining when TJ was held in
- 24:32Speaker 5: the red or in the end zone, which would have
- 24:33Speaker 5: resulted to see if they probably would have asked the
- 24:35Speaker 5: game as well. So it's just interesting that I've seen
- 24:37Speaker 5: that off the game and people's probably stay consistent about
- 24:41Speaker 5: calling it the Rafts because we had a really a lot.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Of Bods calls as well.
- 24:44Speaker 5: So overall, very happy and roll on to Baltimore.
- 24:48Speaker 1: I love the way you describe that situation or at
- 24:50Speaker 1: the m that raft role on Baltimore. Indeed, the game
- 24:54Speaker 1: is six o'clock on Sunday. Combat there on the week
- 24:56Speaker 1: to maybe discuss it in more detailed game is on
- 24:58Speaker 1: Sky Sports if you're in Ireland or if you're in
- 25:01Speaker 1: the UK as well against the Ravens, and it's obviously
- 25:05Speaker 1: a huge game like we know generally it's a big game,
- 25:08Speaker 1: but certainly now in the context of the AFC North, Jimmy,
- 25:12Speaker 1: this is a massive game. Give a shout out to
- 25:15Speaker 1: friend of the podcast. I believe he's coming on very soon,
- 25:17Speaker 1: Ton Diggs, who tweeted yesterday for the first time. This
- 25:20Speaker 1: is the twenty seventeen season. I believe the Steers can
- 25:23Speaker 1: make a run and I couldn't believe this. The only
- 25:26Speaker 1: team in the AFC worries me is the Ravens. The
- 25:29Speaker 1: Ravens are one and seven in their last eight games
- 25:31Speaker 1: against Pittsburgh. Lamar is two and four against the Steelers,
- 25:35Speaker 1: seven fumbles sacked twenty times, seven interceptions. It's never easy
- 25:40Speaker 1: to play the Baltimore Ravens, and we've seen that first
- 25:43Speaker 1: time last week Jimmy on Thursday Night. Footballer team that
- 25:47Speaker 1: doesn't give up. They've got some great players in the roster.
- 25:50Speaker 1: They're great competitors. What's your initial thoughts as we enter
- 25:54Speaker 1: this week.
- 25:56Speaker 3: I think it's going to be an opposite dog fight.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Make where with two top teams the AOFC North, two
- 26:01Speaker 2: top teams in the AFC overall right now, both with
- 26:05Speaker 2: a similar record. I believe, although it could be it
- 26:07Speaker 2: could be incorrect on that. And look it's it's like
- 26:11Speaker 2: you say, we swept the Ravens last year. I think
- 26:13Speaker 2: it might be a bit trickier this year, just the
- 26:16Speaker 2: way they're playing and some of the talented players they
- 26:19Speaker 2: have at their disposal, and they have so many weapons.
- 26:21Speaker 2: But like ourselves, it's going to be hard to keep
- 26:24Speaker 2: them all contained. Considering when you have such a dynamic
- 26:27Speaker 2: athlete a quarterback who can literally do anything, if you
- 26:31Speaker 2: leave him uncontained, you can just take off and cause
- 26:34Speaker 2: absolute havoc.
- 26:35Speaker 3: So I think for me, the key is going to
- 26:36Speaker 3: be similar to what we did against Jayden Daniels. It
- 26:39Speaker 3: is just harass them.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Just get after him, keep him in the pocket to
- 26:42Speaker 2: prevent him from from escaping, keep them, keep him occupied,
- 26:47Speaker 2: try and try and block.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Him up basically.
- 26:49Speaker 2: But then also you do that, he's gonna start throwing
- 26:52Speaker 2: bombs to Mark Andrews and Say Flowers and the whole
- 26:56Speaker 2: host of weapons he has. That's the passing games last
- 26:59Speaker 2: run and look, looky you have the running back to
- 27:01Speaker 2: the Ravens.
- 27:02Speaker 4: Now.
- 27:02Speaker 3: Derek Henry's having one of the best careers of his season.
- 27:05Speaker 2: When a lot of people thought he was done and dusted,
- 27:08Speaker 2: So that's another bulldozer we have to contend with up
- 27:11Speaker 2: the up the middle.
- 27:12Speaker 3: So I think it's gonna be tricky. I think it's
- 27:13Speaker 3: gonna be very very close.
- 27:14Speaker 2: I think we need to be a lot more consistent
- 27:16Speaker 2: than offense, compared to what we were against the against
- 27:19Speaker 2: the Commanders. On defense, I would like to see a
- 27:22Speaker 2: bit more pressure, a couple of more sacks, and just
- 27:25Speaker 2: stop the run. So just like it's like I've been
- 27:27Speaker 2: saying all season long, make just keep building week on week,
- 27:30Speaker 2: be consistent, be above average to it, do everything right,
- 27:34Speaker 2: and I think I think we'll get there. And looking
- 27:36Speaker 2: forward to watching it at a reasonable hour as well.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Yeah, and having that game at home. Dabug is a
- 27:43Speaker 1: big factor and we will talk about that later on
- 27:45Speaker 1: in the week. Any initial thoughts like that. For me,
- 27:47Speaker 1: that run game obviously stands out. It feels like it's
- 27:50Speaker 1: going to have to take a super Bowl type defensive
- 27:52Speaker 1: performance to really shut this team up. But you know,
- 27:55Speaker 1: the rewards if we can. The fault of it just
- 27:58Speaker 1: gets me so excited.
- 28:00Speaker 5: Yeah, No, it's it's definitely an interesting game. I mean,
- 28:04Speaker 5: the whole league's raven about their offense and they should
- 28:07Speaker 5: be got an incredible offense and.
- 28:09Speaker 1: As you mean to say that Raven Raven about their offense,
- 28:12Speaker 1: Raven about the Ravens.
- 28:14Speaker 3: You caught me off there.
- 28:15Speaker 5: I'm not quick with it that I just threw in
- 28:17Speaker 5: upon there, but well caught on mhem. But no, I've absolutely,
- 28:21Speaker 5: I mean, the whole league has just been They've been
- 28:23Speaker 5: they have been literally reiven about that offense. But at
- 28:27Speaker 5: the same time, I'm looking at their defense, their defenses.
- 28:31Speaker 5: Forgive my French horrible la horror Belle Ellis, would you say,
- 28:37Speaker 5: but now the defense is the defense is terrible. I mean,
- 28:40Speaker 5: I think it was Joe Burrow, but four hundred yards
- 28:42Speaker 5: up on the passing last week and they struggled against
- 28:46Speaker 5: Javis Winston. They got big by Gardner Minshew in the Raiders.
- 28:49Speaker 5: The defense is I think it's all time atrocious. And
- 28:51Speaker 5: if if you know, if I'm looking at from a
- 28:53Speaker 5: Raven standpoint, if they want to win the Super Bowl,
- 28:56Speaker 5: that defense has to be a shirt up they do.
- 28:57Speaker 5: You have a couple of good weapons. I think Marlon
- 28:59Speaker 5: Humphrey is good, good player, but aside from Nasavaying, there's
- 29:03Speaker 5: a lot of Aubager So I think there's definitely holes,
- 29:05Speaker 5: we will be able to capitalize.
- 29:06Speaker 1: It will just.
