Latest / Stugotz and Company / Big Stu-ey: Must-Win For the Yankees? (w/Adnan)
Transcript
- 0:21Speaker 1: He is in his hometown of Toronto. He is part
- 0:24Speaker 1: of Amazon's coverage of the NHL. Adnan Burke is joining us.
- 0:27Speaker 1: A funny thing happened as we tried to get Adnan
- 0:30Speaker 1: on the show today, and he doesn't have a lot
- 0:33Speaker 1: of time.
- 0:33Speaker 2: But Taylor asked him. He said, no, I'm busy. Got it.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I sent Adnan a text after that saying, hey, I
- 0:40Speaker 1: need you for 10 to 15 minutes because Taylor has
- 0:44Speaker 1: declared tonight's game two with the Yankees up one to
- 0:46Speaker 1: nothing against the Red Sox as a must-win game for
- 0:49Speaker 1: the Yankees.
- 0:50Speaker 2: And Adnan said, I'm in.
- 0:54Speaker 3: This is exactly what happened. Taylor texts, and it's just like, hey,
- 0:57Speaker 3: I'm busy, as you exactly just said, Stu. Back in
- 1:00Speaker 3: hometown Toronto, your beloved Islanders facing the Leafs, Amazon Prime debut.
- 1:03Speaker 3: I'm like, I'd love to help you out. Just, you know,
- 1:05Speaker 3: we can't do it. How about tomorrow? No, tomorrow I'm
- 1:07Speaker 3: flying home. I got my hockey podcast. Maybe Friday. And
- 1:10Speaker 3: then Stu, all you had to say, that was the bait.
- 1:12Speaker 3: That was the line. Just Taylor said it's a must win.
- 1:15Speaker 3: When do you need me? I'll put up my schedule immediately.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Such an outrageous take. I will give you 15 to
- 1:23Speaker 3: 30 to 45 minutes of my time just to discredit
- 1:26Speaker 3: Taylor after that. That's how, that's how I reacted.
- 1:29Speaker 2: You get a text.
- 1:30Speaker 3: And you go, that can't be accurate. No, whatever you need,
- 1:32Speaker 3: I'm available.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:35Speaker 4: So my argument, why it's a must win.
- 1:37Speaker 3: They won nine to nothing, Taylor.
- 1:39Speaker 2: They won nine nothing.
- 1:41Speaker 3: They kicked the shit out of them.
- 1:43Speaker 2: It's over.
- 1:43Speaker 3: It's done.
- 1:43Speaker 2: We're good.
- 1:44Speaker 3: I texted Booney. I texted Booney and said, way to
- 1:47Speaker 3: kick their ass. Finish it tonight. You know what he
- 1:49Speaker 3: wrote back? Fist bump emoji. You know what he did
- 1:51Speaker 3: not write back? Must win tonight. If the manager of
- 1:55Speaker 3: the Yankees had written back, must win tonight, but Booney,
- 1:57Speaker 3: are you sure about that? Have you lost your mind? No.
- 2:00Speaker 3: He went fist bump. Like, we're good, buddy. We kicked
- 2:02Speaker 3: their ass.
- 2:04Speaker 4: Adam, my argument for why it's a must win and
- 2:06Speaker 4: why I think Yankees have to sweep Boston, I hate
- 2:10Speaker 4: to say I'm already looking forward to Tampa Bay, but
- 2:12Speaker 4: I do have one eye to Tampa, and I don't
- 2:15Speaker 4: think you need to waste Garrett Cole in a game three.
- 2:18Speaker 4: And then going to the Tampa series, you maximize Cam Schlittler,
- 2:21Speaker 4: the Max Freed-Garrett Cole combo, where I really don't want
- 2:24Speaker 4: to see– I know Carlos Rodon has been pretty good
- 2:26Speaker 4: over the past month. I really don't trust him in
- 2:29Speaker 4: a big spot in the postseason. I want the Tampa
- 2:31Speaker 4: Bay series to line up where Cole goes game one
- 2:33Speaker 4: and game four, Schlittler goes game two and game five,
- 2:36Speaker 4: and then you have Freed game three.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Okay, so I was curious about your takes. At least
- 2:41Speaker 3: I know some of the reasoning. So it was not
- 2:43Speaker 3: that you were being a panic-stricken Yankee fan who was
- 2:46Speaker 3: terrified at the prospect of losing to the Red Sox.
- 2:49Speaker 4: It was a little of both.
- 2:50Speaker 2: It was a little of both.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Mikey, it sounds more like an arrogant Yankees fan who's
- 2:55Speaker 3: already looking ahead to the next series. So that's the
- 2:57Speaker 3: kind of Yankee fan I'm used to seeing. So that's
- 3:00Speaker 3: the good news. Taylor, I would have been more offended
- 3:02Speaker 3: if you were like, oh, my God, these Red Sox,
- 3:04Speaker 3: if they get us in the road. Buddy, come on,
- 3:05Speaker 3: you got them. You're fine. You've got Freed going tonight,
- 3:08Speaker 3: who's tremendous. And Ben Rice just had six RBIs. To
- 3:11Speaker 3: your point, also interesting. So I thought you were going
- 3:13Speaker 3: to go the other way. I've been talking to a
- 3:15Speaker 3: lot of Yankees fans who are not crazy about Garrett
- 3:17Speaker 3: Cole starting game three. Because they're like, he gives up
- 3:19Speaker 3: way too many home runs. And against the Red Sox,
- 3:22Speaker 3: he has not been great. And you can see a scenario.
- 3:24Speaker 3: And I know Devers isn't there anymore. You know how
- 3:25Speaker 3: much he was his nemesis. But you can imagine a
- 3:27Speaker 3: scenario in the Bronx. A couple of first inning home runs.
- 3:29Speaker 3: You go, oh my God, Garrett Cole doesn't have it tonight.
- 3:31Speaker 3: But I like your take, which is that Well, I
- 3:34Speaker 3: don't like the fact that you're already looking ahead to
- 3:35Speaker 3: the series. That's stupid. But I like your take that
- 3:37Speaker 3: you're not crazy about Rodon because that was part of
- 3:39Speaker 3: my thinking was go with Rodon. Rodon's been awesome down
- 3:42Speaker 3: the stretch. But Steve Phillips made the point to me.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Garrett Cole. So here's the weakness. Garrett Cole gives up
- 3:47Speaker 3: too many of his solo home runs. True. But Garrett
- 3:49Speaker 3: Cole's definitely been a big-time pitcher. Absolutely. Has he had
- 3:51Speaker 3: post-season success? Yeah. Could you see him shoving for the Yankees?
- 3:53Speaker 3: For sure. Rodon? No. Bit of a, I don't know
- 3:56Speaker 3: if you can use this term anymore, forgive me, mental midget. Like,
- 3:58Speaker 3: you know, if the pressure gets a little too much
- 4:00Speaker 3: for Rodon, watch out. Mikey and Taylor remember the moments
- 4:03Speaker 3: when Rodon, I don't remember the playoff game now, but
- 4:05Speaker 3: like he struck out somebody who was like, yeah, he
- 4:06Speaker 3: was so pumped. And then he had nothing. Then he
- 4:08Speaker 3: gave up like five runs the next day. Like, buddy,
- 4:09Speaker 3: you got to pace yourself. Like, this is the playoffs.
- 4:12Speaker 3: So I thought it was a very interesting dilemma. I
- 4:14Speaker 3: thought the worst move Booney could have made, because my
- 4:17Speaker 3: dear friend Harold Reynolds had this take. Chew this one.
- 4:19Speaker 3: He goes, Garrett Cole should start game one. I go,
- 4:21Speaker 3: what are you talking about? And Harold goes, no. He goes,
- 4:24Speaker 3: you paid him $ 324 million. He's your Roger Clemens. He's
- 4:28Speaker 3: going to his office. I'm starting game one. I go,
- 4:30Speaker 3: are you out of your mind? Kim Schlitter is the
- 4:32Speaker 3: best pitcher in the American League. He's pitching game one.
- 4:34Speaker 3: The only way you could talk about it, and again,
- 4:35Speaker 3: this is Taylor's thinking ahead, is if Schlitter went game
- 4:38Speaker 3: two and game five of the ALDS, well-rested, blah, blah, blah.
- 4:42Speaker 3: But again, I don't play that game. I'm like, let's
- 4:44Speaker 3: just win and move on. So the most outrageous scenario
- 4:47Speaker 3: would have been Harold's take. This is Garrett Cole starting
- 4:49Speaker 3: game one. And I thought you were going to say, Taylor,
- 4:51Speaker 3: you don't trust Garrett Cole in a game three. Instead,
- 4:54Speaker 3: you're saying you trust him so much, you just want
- 4:56Speaker 3: him rested for the series against the Rays.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Arrogant Yankee fan. Is there any other kind? I mean, seriously.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Put it on the poll, Taylor.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Is part of being a Yankee fan always looking ahead
- 5:08Speaker 1: to the next series? I think if Taylor had to
- 5:11Speaker 1: redo the take, what he would say, Adnan, is this
- 5:13Speaker 1: is a game where you don't get Boston life.
- 5:15Speaker 2: You stomp on them tonight. That's it, right?
- 5:18Speaker 3: Right. That's what I thought the take was going to be.
- 5:20Speaker 3: I thought it was going to be, yeah, we won,
- 5:22Speaker 3: but the game was pretty tight. It was a late
- 5:24Speaker 3: grand slam from Rice. You never know what could happen.
- 5:27Speaker 3: What if Sonny Gray shoves? What if Freed is a
- 5:29Speaker 3: bad start? I don't want a deciding game in the Bronx.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Cole might get lit up. Oh, my God, judges. That's
- 5:34Speaker 3: where I thought the adjective was coming from. But no,
- 5:36Speaker 3: it's completely misguided arrogance. It's Taylor going, no, we've got
- 5:38Speaker 3: this series in the bag. We need to beat the Rays.
- 5:41Speaker 2: He wants to line up bitches. I will say this.
- 5:43Speaker 2: I will say this.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Taylor's arrogance. I will say this. If they win tonight,
- 5:46Speaker 3: and I believe that they will. And then if they
- 5:48Speaker 3: beat the Rays, well, then the arrogance of the Yankees,
- 5:50Speaker 3: I think, is quite well-founded. You had the second most
- 5:53Speaker 3: wins in the American League, and you just take care
- 5:55Speaker 3: of the team with the third most wins in the
- 5:56Speaker 3: Red Sox and beat the number one seed in the Rays. Then,
- 5:59Speaker 3: God forbid, if the Yankees gag and lose to one
- 6:02Speaker 3: of the Guardians, the White Sox, or the Astros, that
- 6:05Speaker 3: would truly be catastrophic. But that... It is an easier
- 6:07Speaker 3: path for the Yankees, which I'm sure Taylor has already
- 6:10Speaker 3: figured out.
- 6:10Speaker 4: This is one, Adnan, I think we're just going to
- 6:12Speaker 4: have to agree to disagree on. But one thing, when
- 6:15Speaker 4: I'm watching Ben Rice hit that Grand Slam, and I
- 6:18Speaker 4: know Mikey's in agreement because me and Mikey were texting
- 6:20Speaker 4: about this after, one thing I think we could all
- 6:22Speaker 4: agree on, Elliott Ramos is the worst No. 3 batter
- 6:26Speaker 4: in Yankees postseason history.
- 6:29Speaker 3: So it's so funny because you look at the moves
- 6:31Speaker 3: that Brian Cashman has made, and I'm sure you guys have.
- 6:33Speaker 4: Varying opinions.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Some people love him. Some people hate him. He's been
- 6:35Speaker 3: there too long. Okay, he's had success. He's passed it.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Whatever it might be. But sometimes, like, Ryan Cashel makes moves.
- 6:40Speaker 3: You go, man, like, David Bednar last year comes in. Like,
- 6:42Speaker 3: he's the closer. He fortified the bullpen.
- 6:43Speaker 4: Great.
- 6:44Speaker 3: He gets Luis Garcini. You go, man, this guy's great
- 6:46Speaker 3: from the left side. Perfect Yankee stadium. And then you
- 6:48Speaker 3: see the Elliott Ramos movie, and you go, oh, my God.
- 6:51Speaker 3: woof like this guy stinks like he he had a
- 6:54Speaker 3: really good year of the giants the yankees got up
- 6:56Speaker 3: i'm like apparently he forgot to hit like and normally
- 6:59Speaker 3: normally you'll get you'll get some separation if a guy
- 7:02Speaker 3: is really good there's this whole cliche you go to
- 7:04Speaker 3: new york and struggle five like lost and so to
- 7:07Speaker 3: me the most amusing part of all of this was
- 7:09Speaker 3: if judge plays they're like well how many right-handed hitters
- 7:12Speaker 3: do you want because they've got peyton toley and rangers
- 7:14Speaker 3: for his lefties and i'm like I don't want a
- 7:16Speaker 3: whole lot of Elliott Ramos in that lineup, no matter
- 7:18Speaker 3: where I am. Like, if it has to be Ahmed
- 7:19Speaker 3: Rosario and guys playing out of position, fine. That is
- 7:22Speaker 3: one move that has not worked out well. Elliott Ramos
- 7:25Speaker 3: is a Yankee. He's not endearing himself well to the pinstrips.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Adnan, we have a situation here.
- 7:29Speaker 1: How do you feel about a guy who's never worn
- 7:31Speaker 1: Yankee gear before, but today he shows up in Yankee gear?
- 7:36Speaker 2: It's Bordot Ricardo. We have dubbed him.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Yes, we love Ricardo.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Yes, we've dubbed him Ricky Mantle.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Uh i mean just for the nickname that's fantastic i
- 7:47Speaker 3: know ricardo is arguably the biggest baseball fan the entire
- 7:50Speaker 3: crew and i believe we discussed last time i was
- 7:52Speaker 3: on i think you want to talk marlins baseball with
- 7:54Speaker 3: me is that not right ricardo he's.
- 7:55Speaker 2: A big marlins yes big marlins fan yes.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Right he knows so much i love liam hicks of
- 7:59Speaker 3: course the canadian who is now a member of the
- 8:01Speaker 3: rays but i was just the marlins and kept him
- 8:03Speaker 3: i love anna lopez by the way i'm a huge
- 8:05Speaker 3: anna lopez guy 191 hits this season but yeah a
- 8:07Speaker 3: yankee fan not wearing yankee garb until playoffs i mean
- 8:10Speaker 3: it Again, it kind of speaks to the arrogance of
- 8:13Speaker 3: the bandwagon Yankees. Like, I remember talking to Yankees fans.
- 8:16Speaker 3: It might have been Mike Hill at ESPN. Speaking of
- 8:18Speaker 3: Hill and Schleyer, it's a great ESPN radio show.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Mike, he remembers.
- 8:21Speaker 3: He said one time, he's like, why do I don't
- 8:22Speaker 3: pay attention to the playoffs? I'm like, what do you mean?
- 8:24Speaker 3: He's like, well, that's when it gets serious. I'm like,
- 8:26Speaker 3: let's be nice. This is a spoiled fan base. You
- 8:28Speaker 3: make the playoffs every single season. You don't have to
- 8:30Speaker 3: care until the actual playoffs show up. Like, God forbid
- 8:32Speaker 3: the Cincinnati Reds are fighting tooth and nail. You've got
- 8:35Speaker 3: fans watching baseball in August. Yankees are like, well, we're
- 8:37Speaker 3: going to make it. We know we're going to make it.
- 8:39Speaker 3: It's just a matter of showing up for the playoffs.
- 8:40Speaker 3: We'll see what happens. The Ricky Mantle nickname alone, I'm
- 8:43Speaker 3: all in on Ricardo going deep with the Yankees this year.
- 8:46Speaker 4: Adnan, you mentioned that you have a texting relationship with
- 8:48Speaker 4: Aaron Boone, and I'm wondering if you could text him something.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Sure.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Fourth inning, Yankees are up 1-0. It's first and second,
- 8:54Speaker 4: nobody out. Anthony Volpe at the plate. That's got to
- 8:56Speaker 4: be a bunt every time.
- 8:59Speaker 2: You won. Every time. Every time.
- 9:01Speaker 4: I don't care what the spreadsheet says. When Schlittler is
- 9:04Speaker 4: dealing the way he is, your magic number is probably
- 9:07Speaker 4: like three runs. Let's scratch and claw to get three
- 9:10Speaker 4: runs as quickly as possible.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Now, Stugas knows this because he has famous friends on
- 9:13Speaker 3: his phone as well. There's a very fine line between
- 9:16Speaker 3: texting messages of support and then critiquing actual game strategy.
- 9:19Speaker 3: So I'm not sure how well he'd react to that.
- 9:22Speaker 3: I think if it was, I think if it's mid-November
- 9:25Speaker 3: and the Yankees have won the World Series, they go, hey,
- 9:27Speaker 3: just one thought, going back to game one of the A.L.
- 9:29Speaker 3: Walker series, wasn't sure why you bunted there. And he'd
- 9:31Speaker 3: be like. Okay, well, here's my thinking. We might be
- 9:34Speaker 3: able to have a conversation. If I text him about
- 9:35Speaker 3: that now, I'm not getting a fist bump back. I'm
- 9:38Speaker 3: getting a finger back right from there.
- 9:40Speaker 2: I would advise against it, yes.
- 9:43Speaker 4: Just tell him Ricky Mantle said it.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Ricky Mantle has a quick thought for you. By the way,
- 9:49Speaker 3: how about Stanton being available to pinch hit roll? Blew
- 9:52Speaker 3: me away, Taylor. I was like, oh, my God. This
- 9:54Speaker 3: guy's in play. He's got two bad calves. He had
- 9:58Speaker 3: one bad calf and hurt it by favoring the other. calf,
- 10:00Speaker 3: and he's still available there as a pinch hitter. I'm
- 10:02Speaker 3: hoping Stanton shows up. and hits a Stantonian blast. I
- 10:05Speaker 3: think that would be an amazing sight to see.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Speaking of ridiculous takes, he's going to get mad at
- 10:08Speaker 1: me right now, but Mikey A said he'd rather have
- 10:10Speaker 1: Giancarlo Stanton on the postseason roster than Aaron Judge.
- 10:14Speaker 2: It's not what I said.
- 10:15Speaker 3: It's not what I said.
- 10:16Speaker 4: Not what I said.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Roll it. Play it back.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Before I land base, Mikey, I'll try to support him
- 10:22Speaker 3: and say Stanton has been a great postseason player. I
- 10:25Speaker 3: think his career OPS is over 900. So if there
- 10:27Speaker 3: ever was a guy who was a primetime player, collect
- 10:29Speaker 3: performance him. But there's no way Mikey would rather have Stanton,
- 10:33Speaker 3: a hobbled Stanton, over a three-time MVP in Aaron Jones,
- 10:36Speaker 3: even if he's compromised. But it's a funny take.
- 10:38Speaker 2: It is a funny take.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Let's see Stanton go deep.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Yes, it's also a take he swears he didn't give,
- 10:42Speaker 1: but it doesn't matter.
- 10:42Speaker 2: That's sports radio.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Adnett.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Let's compliment Taylor on a good take.
- 10:57Speaker 1: He said early on no one else agreed with him
- 11:00Speaker 1: except for CeCe Sabathia.
- 11:02Speaker 2: And he's mad at CeCe now because CeCe.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Did it when he was starting in the All-Star game.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Then he said I'd take Schlittler over Skeens.
- 11:10Speaker 2: He's the only one who agreed with Taylor.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Taylor did say he would not trade Cam Schlittler straight
- 11:14Speaker 1: up for Paul Skeens. It turns out that that take,
- 11:17Speaker 1: I laughed at it, I mocked him, but he was right.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, especially now the way things have gone,
- 11:22Speaker 3: I'm curious how well the take will age a year
- 11:25Speaker 3: from now. Like if Schlittler continues, like if he wins
- 11:27Speaker 3: another Cy Young, you're like, okay. And if Skeens has
- 11:29Speaker 3: another down season, then Taylor will truly be prophetic. And
- 11:32Speaker 3: then it's like, oh my God, like Taylor might be
- 11:34Speaker 3: a borderline genius. I'm hoping what happens is Schlittler is
- 11:37Speaker 3: still really good next season, but Skeens gets back to
- 11:40Speaker 3: being that guy and people will still laugh off the
- 11:42Speaker 3: take and go, hang on. We've had two good seasons
- 11:44Speaker 3: of Schlittler. We've had three great seasons of Skeens and
- 11:48Speaker 3: one average seasons of Paul. That's what I'm hoping happens.
- 11:50Speaker 3: But By the way, I think Jeff Passon also backed
- 11:53Speaker 3: you up. I think Stuart said Passon did not laugh
- 11:55Speaker 3: off that assertion when you said it.
- 11:56Speaker 2: No, he didn't. Actually, Passon did not laugh it off.
- 11:58Speaker 4: Passon said it's not as crazy a concept as you
- 12:00Speaker 4: might think.
- 12:01Speaker 2: He did.
- 12:01Speaker 3: To be clear, he didn't agree with you, but he
- 12:03Speaker 3: said it's not outlandish.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Well, Mikey's got something.
- 12:06Speaker 4: Passon brought that in at the trade deadline, okay? By then,
- 12:09Speaker 4: we were already way past. And just to show everybody
- 12:13Speaker 4: how much I just lucked into that take, when we
- 12:16Speaker 4: had Michael Kay on before the season and we asked
- 12:18Speaker 4: Michael Kay– he made the argument that Paul Skeens is
- 12:20Speaker 4: younger than Cam Schlitler. And I said, wow, I didn't
- 12:22Speaker 4: even know that.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Wow.
- 12:25Speaker 3: That does make things interesting. Cause you're right. If you
- 12:27Speaker 3: just said to me at first glance, but Paul Schlitler
- 12:28Speaker 3: is definitely younger.
- 12:29Speaker 4: I was just doing a Homer thing.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. Got to age on him as well. I mean, it's, it's,
- 12:33Speaker 3: it's fascinating. By the way, it was just great to
- 12:35Speaker 3: have baseball, not to be a TV nerd about this,
- 12:37Speaker 3: but great to have baseball back at NBC. Stu and
- 12:39Speaker 3: I grew up, used to watch NBC game of the week.
- 12:41Speaker 3: I mean, Costas hosts in the pregame, Joe Girardi in
- 12:43Speaker 3: the booth, obviously our buddy, Jason Benetti, who's phenomenal. Benetti
- 12:46Speaker 3: calling baseball is great. So I was, I was just
- 12:48Speaker 3: thrilled to be sitting back watching Peacock quadruple header of baseball.
- 12:51Speaker 3: It was awesome.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Yep, and you'll get it again today. Ben Verlander was
- 12:54Speaker 1: on with us yesterday, and he said he had the
- 12:56Speaker 1: Phillies and Yankees in the World Series.
- 12:58Speaker 2: What do you think of that?
- 12:58Speaker 3: It's a bold take by Ben. I love that. He's
- 13:02Speaker 3: a great guy. Phillies, geez. Steve Phillips, again, the aforementioned,
- 13:05Speaker 3: he blew me away. I said, you're calling Phillies over
- 13:07Speaker 3: the Braves? I said, this is the same Phillies team
- 13:09Speaker 3: whose offense is about as limp as you can imagine.
- 13:11Speaker 3: They were horrific down the stretch, and you're telling me
- 13:14Speaker 3: now they're going to beat Atlanta, and then Ben going
- 13:16Speaker 3: much further to say they're going to go to the
- 13:17Speaker 3: World Series. That is about an outrageous take. It might
- 13:21Speaker 3: be worse than Taylor's take.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Yeah, but I like it. You're swinging for the fences.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Go for it.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Why not? I'd love to see the odds you have
- 13:29Speaker 3: on that. Philly's making the World Series. They barely got
- 13:31Speaker 3: into the wild card on the final day of the
- 13:33Speaker 3: regular season. They're going to somehow beat the Braves. and
- 13:36Speaker 3: or Dodgers or Brewers along the way. Wow. If he
- 13:40Speaker 3: sees it, again, Ben Brewer is a lot smarter than me,
- 13:41Speaker 3: but I cannot see it. Yankees making it? Sure. If
- 13:43Speaker 3: they get past the Red Sox and the Rays, then
- 13:45Speaker 3: I'd feel great about that, even if they get past
- 13:47Speaker 3: the Red Sox. Compelling match with the Rays. But a
- 13:49Speaker 3: Yankees-Phillies World Series, very tough for me to imagine. I'm
- 13:52Speaker 3: pulling hard for the Brewers. I love Mizorowski. I hope
- 13:54Speaker 3: Milwaukee gets it done.
- 13:55Speaker 4: Adnan, I'm doing this research, and I'm on one site,
- 13:59Speaker 4: and it says there are three other series going on
- 14:01Speaker 4: at this time. What are your thoughts there?
- 14:05Speaker 3: The reason I laugh is I did an interview with
- 14:07Speaker 3: Awful Announcing, and they always ask that question. They go, hey,
- 14:09Speaker 3: what's the best series going for you? And I go,
- 14:11Speaker 3: how is that even a question? Yankees, Red Sox. Okay,
- 14:13Speaker 3: what's the second best series? And I go, well, I
- 14:15Speaker 3: love Tatis. I said, I think the Padres are a
- 14:18Speaker 3: fun team, great bullpen. And, of course, Tatis goes deep.
- 14:20Speaker 3: He's great in the postseason. And they kick the crap
- 14:22Speaker 3: of the Cubs, eat nothing. Okay, what's the third best series?
- 14:25Speaker 3: I'm like, well, really, to be honest, there's really only
- 14:26Speaker 3: two series. But, okay, the third best. Oh, my God,
- 14:29Speaker 3: Philly's brave.
- 14:30Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
- 14:31Speaker 3: I'm like, well, I don't think anyone really cares about
- 14:33Speaker 3: White Sox Astros. That's the one. That's the Chargers winning
- 14:37Speaker 3: the West at 7-9. You go, okay, does anybody actually care?
- 14:40Speaker 3: Are we just gluttons for punishment? Like, do we have
- 14:42Speaker 3: it on? Do you have to watch this? I'm like,
- 14:44Speaker 3: I guess they have to. So good for the White
- 14:46Speaker 3: Sox winning it 6-3. The only thing that could make
- 14:48Speaker 3: that series compelling is if Pope Leo shows up for
- 14:51Speaker 3: Game 2. You go, oh, my God, the Pope is
- 14:53Speaker 3: in attendance. here to cheer on his white socks because
- 14:55Speaker 3: as far as baseball that's an 81 win team that
- 14:58Speaker 3: won the division and you guys remember this i said
- 15:00Speaker 3: if you finish below 500 you're not allowed to make
- 15:02Speaker 3: the playoffs well everyone's allowed to make it sadly the
- 15:04Speaker 3: astros just got in 81 81 if you're 500 you're
- 15:07Speaker 3: allowed to be in the playoffs in the adnan burke
- 15:09Speaker 3: rule book doesn't mean i like it doesn't mean i
- 15:11Speaker 3: care for it but uh The White Sox is an
- 15:13Speaker 3: 84-win team of a slight favor. I hope Chicago beats them,
- 15:17Speaker 3: and I hope Chicago gets wiped quickly by Cleveland. I
- 15:19Speaker 3: don't want these inferior teams going deep.
- 15:20Speaker 1: There's a reason Astros' White Sox is being placed at
- 15:23Speaker 1: 5 p.m.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Eastern on your drive home.
- 15:27Speaker 3: It's a great point. Originally, I said to myself, when
- 15:29Speaker 3: you put the lousiest game, it's always like, I love
- 15:31Speaker 3: wild card week, and you go, what's that 4.30 Saturday
- 15:34Speaker 3: ABC game? That's the crappiest game. The Saturday 8 o'clock
- 15:37Speaker 3: NBC is pretty good, and the Sunday 4.25 is great.
- 15:40Speaker 3: You go, hey, what's that throw? That's got to be
- 15:41Speaker 3: the Titans game. It might be a Jaguars game.
- 15:44Speaker 2: The Texans.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Right, Texans game is always that Saturday 4.30. I'll put
- 15:47Speaker 3: the Texans there. That's a good spot. You would think
- 15:49Speaker 3: the lousiest game, you'd put it too, but you're right. No,
- 15:51Speaker 3: like if you're on the West Coast, that's 11 a.m. Eastern.
- 15:54Speaker 3: You're like, oh, I'm going to go watch the Phillies-Rams
- 15:56Speaker 3: right now.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Or.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Maybe you get out of work early to watch it.
- 15:58Speaker 3: The five o'clock, the toughest of cells. And that's why
- 16:01Speaker 3: that game is in that slot. You're right.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Yes.
- 16:03Speaker 4: And then you have a hockey NHL on prime back
- 16:06Speaker 4: tonight and you're in Toronto for that. Who's winning the
- 16:09Speaker 4: cup this year?
- 16:10Speaker 2: Wow. What a start.
- 16:12Speaker 1: What a start to the season last night with the Panthers.
- 16:14Speaker 1: A 4.8 seconds to go. Forsling with that goal.
- 16:17Speaker 4: Amazing.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Taylor alerted me yesterday that the hockey season was starting.
- 16:20Speaker 2: How about that?
- 16:22Speaker 3: A thousand percent. Somebody asked me the other day, who
- 16:23Speaker 3: do you like out of the West? I go, wait,
- 16:24Speaker 3: are we talking hockey already? It's late September. I'm not
- 16:27Speaker 3: ready for this, but I do think the Panthers come
- 16:29Speaker 3: roaring back. It's an easy pick. And I think the
- 16:31Speaker 3: Avalanche out of the West. So I'm going to go
- 16:33Speaker 3: Panthers and Avalanche. The one that I really love to say,
- 16:35Speaker 3: and maybe I'm just kowtowing to you guys and Stu
- 16:37Speaker 3: and the Panthers loyalty, but I'd love to see the
- 16:39Speaker 3: Canadians go deep. But as Stu knows, it's kind of
- 16:41Speaker 3: funny the fact the Canadian team has not won since 1993.
- 16:44Speaker 3: So the drought should not end just now. But I'd
- 16:46Speaker 3: love to see Canadians avalanche. But just to stick it
- 16:49Speaker 3: to my own people here in Canada, I'm going to
- 16:50Speaker 3: say it'll be Panthers avalanche.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 16:53Speaker 4: And Stu mentioned that he was shocked to find out
- 16:55Speaker 4: that hockey was back yesterday. I have something even more
- 16:58Speaker 4: surprising to tell Mike and Stu Gotts when it comes
- 17:01Speaker 4: to the NHL. What is it? They're playing 84 games
- 17:03Speaker 4: this year instead of 82. What?
- 17:04Speaker 2: Right.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Well, that's the thing. For people who are like, why
- 17:07Speaker 3: is the season starting so soon? I'm like, they added games. Like, wait, what?
- 17:10Speaker 3: When the NFL goes from 16 to 17, the whole
- 17:12Speaker 3: world knows. If baseball for some reason went from 162
- 17:16Speaker 3: to 154, we would all be aware of this. Hockey
- 17:18Speaker 3: went from 80 to 84, like, meh, just slip that
- 17:20Speaker 3: one in. A couple extra games, no big deal. Playoffs
- 17:22Speaker 3: will still end in June, not a big deal. So
- 17:24Speaker 3: that is why the late September start for hockey, which
- 17:26Speaker 3: is just baffling. To be honest, I'm not crazy about it.
- 17:29Speaker 3: I like hockey starting in October. I'm not crazy about
- 17:31Speaker 3: the NBA starting October 20th. I like NBA starting after
- 17:34Speaker 3: the World Series is over. But we're just colliding all
- 17:36Speaker 3: these sports together. The good news is we do get
- 17:38Speaker 3: the sports equinox, or maybe it's equinox in October, when
- 17:41Speaker 3: all four of those teams are going together. When you
- 17:43Speaker 3: can watch hockey, football, baseball, basketball, nothing better.
- 17:45Speaker 2: I just don't get it. Why?
- 17:47Speaker 3: Why? It's a good point, too, with football. It's like,
- 17:52Speaker 3: you know, people love football. It's a sensational appetite. Let
- 17:54Speaker 3: me get one more game. Who were the people going,
- 17:56Speaker 3: you know what would really make hockey a lot better,
- 17:58Speaker 3: like truly make the sport dynamic and as good as
- 18:00Speaker 3: any other sport? Two more games.
- 18:02Speaker 4: It's so weird.
- 18:04Speaker 3: If we get two more games, that's going to change
- 18:06Speaker 3: the landscape of sports in America.
- 18:08Speaker 4: Okay, sure.
- 18:09Speaker 3: 84 games. Done.
- 18:10Speaker 2: All right. We appreciate you.
- 18:13Speaker 1: He went from having no time to having like 25
- 18:15Speaker 1: minutes for us.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Whatever you guys need. I'm happy to be here.
- 18:18Speaker 2: All he needed was a must-win. A declaration of a
- 18:21Speaker 2: must-win game for the Yankees from Taylor tonight.
- 18:24Speaker 3: I've never seen a swifter turner from saying unavailable today. Sorry, guys.
- 18:28Speaker 3: One line was still like, whatever you need. I'll clear
- 18:30Speaker 3: up my entire schedule. I'll do one hour. I'll show
- 18:32Speaker 3: up late to Amazon. That's Taylor's take. Go out on
- 18:35Speaker 3: this tonight, Stu.
- 18:36Speaker 2: That was his chum, his bait. He threw it in
- 18:38Speaker 2: the water and he let me finish it off. Promote
- 18:40Speaker 2: what you're doing with Amazon tonight before you get out
- 18:42Speaker 2: of here, I did.
- 18:44Speaker 3: Absolutely. Islanders and Leafs tonight, Sunos, Matthew Schaefer, one of
- 18:46Speaker 3: the most exciting players in hockey, won the Calder Trophy
- 18:49Speaker 3: a year ago, Rookie of the Year, up against Gavin McKenna,
- 18:51Speaker 3: who's the favorite to win the Rookie of the Year
- 18:52Speaker 3: this year. A new year for the Islanders and Leafs,
- 18:54Speaker 3: so yes, I'll be on hockey tonight, but of course,
- 18:57Speaker 3: I'll have one eye watching Red Sox and the Yankees
- 18:59Speaker 3: in a pivotal must-win for New York. Let's see if
- 19:01Speaker 3: they can get it done.
- 19:02Speaker 2: I think at times it will be both eyes, if
- 19:03Speaker 2: I have to be honest with you.
- 19:04Speaker 1: He says it's one eye, and I am thrilled I
- 19:07Speaker 1: get 84 games of Schaefer now.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Breaking news here. More hockey.
- 19:13Speaker 2: More hockey.
- 19:14Speaker 3: There's two more games that make a big difference.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Enjoy your hometown, and we'll be watching tonight. Thank you
- 19:20Speaker 2: for doing this, man. Awesome.
- 19:21Speaker 3: Thank you, boys. Talk soon.
- 19:22Speaker 2: All right. See you.
