- 0:12Hello, friends. It is Sean.
- 0:14Here it is Friday and you are oh so clever.
- 0:18You have made it through another week.
- 0:20Why do I say clever? I don't know why I say clever.
- 0:22You, you have done well. In fact, you've survived.
- 0:26You are a survivor, as here we are on a Friday.
- 0:30This is my last day of work before a holiday, so I am
- 0:35feeling rather marvelous. In fact, I think I'll feel even
- 0:39more marvelous next week. But anticipation is a lovely
- 0:42thing, and I am in the thick of it.
- 0:43And I hope that you are in anticipation as the weekend lies
- 0:47tantalizingly before you, and everything that hopefully gets
- 0:51to come with their will include some restoration, some time for
- 0:57you where you can do some of the things that you love in the
- 1:01midst of all the busyness of being a productive human being.
- 1:05Thank you for taking out some time, inviting me into your day
- 1:08so that you and I can read a Psalm, which is what we do on
- 1:12Fridays. And today's Psalm is for the
- 1:14choir director, a Psalm of the descendants of Cora.
- 1:20Yes, this is another one of those ones.
- 1:22For the descendants of Korra. This is a lament Psalm, as the
- 1:27writer laments, hoping that God will help them at some point in
- 1:32the future. So let us draw together our
- 1:36hearts, our minds, and our ears as we are attentive to His
- 1:41message in Psalm 85. Lord, you poured out blessings
- 1:57on your land. You restored the fortunes of
- 2:00Israel. You forgave the guilt of your
- 2:03people. Yes, you covered all their sins.
- 2:07You held back your fury. You kept back your blazing
- 2:11anger. Now restore us again of God of
- 2:16our salvation. Put aside your anger against us
- 2:20once more. Will you be angry with us
- 2:23always? Will you prolong your wrath to
- 2:27all generations? Won't you revive us again so
- 2:32your people can rejoice in you? Show us your unfailing love, O
- 2:36Lord, and grant us your salvation.
- 2:41I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying, for He
- 2:45speaks peace to His faithful people.
- 2:48But let them not return to their foolish ways.
- 2:51Surely his salvation is near to those who fear Him, So our land
- 2:56will be filled with His glory Unfailing.
- 3:00Love and truth have met together.
- 3:02Righteousness and peace have kissed.
- 3:05Truth springs up from the earth, and righteousness smiles down
- 3:10from heaven. Yes, the Lord pours down His
- 3:14blessings. Our land will yield its
- 3:17bountiful harvest. Righteousness goes as a herald
- 3:22before him, preparing the way for his steps.
- 3:36Thank you for the faithfulness of the Psalmist, that even
- 3:40though they cannot see your hand at work, they know that they
- 3:46that we are part of a much bigger story, a story in which
- 3:51you are a God of provision, forgiveness, and sovereignty.
- 3:57Help us always to place ourselves not in a moment of
- 4:00despair, but in the larger narrative that is dominated by
- 4:06your grace and your provision. You are a great big God.
- 4:12And we thank you for your word that tells the story of you
- 4:17walking beside humanity. Thank you that today, as we go
- 4:23about our Fridays, that today is no different from anyone of
- 4:27those thousands of years of days encapsulated in the biblical
- 4:34text. Thank you for your company.
- 4:36Thank you for engaging with us in our lives.
- 4:39We just worship you, our sovereign God, and we are so
- 4:44grateful that you are here with us today.
- 4:49We love you and it's in your name we pray Jesus.
- 4:52Amen.
