- 1:29also welcome tonight, as my buddy Mitch Klein said, welcome
- 1:33to your hokey emotional support group because that's what we
- 1:36going to be tonight. We going to scream, we going to
- 1:39curse, we going to say things, but y'all tally, tally Brian,
- 1:47y'all are in Nashville, Sheldon and Raleigh.
- 1:50What a shitty way to start the season, yeah?
- 1:54I mean that there's really no other way to to say it.
- 1:58There was a whole lot of preamble.
- 1:59There was a whole lot of damn Hokies in Nashville.
- 2:03The stands are pretty much 7030 Hokies sitting in Nashville on
- 2:08their campus. And then an egg was laid for the
- 2:12better part of 3 1/2 hours. So at.
- 2:16Home with an L. Tally what you.
- 2:19Say it was so hot, it was so hot about the third quarter it was
- 2:25people was passing out. It was God bless the lady I've
- 2:30seen in a wheelchair. I think she out I think she had
- 2:33like a a heat stroke or something.
- 2:35And I'm not even trying to be funny on the way out.
- 2:37Like I think we had to walk like 2 miles to get to the car after
- 2:40the game. It was man, it was hot in now,
- 2:44so I got to start though by saying, you know man, much love,
- 2:49thank you bottom of my heart, you know bottom of the everybody
- 2:54that's here, all of the you know, calls, all of the
- 2:58messages, you know people coming up to meet us.
- 3:03It thank y'all like it was it was awesome to support man.
- 3:08I mean, again, we just four guys talking Virginia Tech football,
- 3:12but we appreciate you guys, you know, spending time with us
- 3:16every week, you know, paying attention to us talk crazy.
- 3:19So besides all of the stuff that happened that we didn't want to
- 3:23happen like that, that's what it's about.
- 3:25You know what I mean? Like coming together as a
- 3:28community to share this thing that we love and hate all at the
- 3:34same time. So I appreciate it, man.
- 3:36I had some great conversations, met some some great families.
- 3:40So I'm very thankful for that. And I'll just I'll stop at that
- 3:45for right now while I'm being positive.
- 3:47Sheldon, how you feel about the game, man?
- 3:49How was Raleigh Sheldon? Were you able to actually go in
- 3:51public after the game? I was, yes, I did get a couple,
- 3:55a couple light jeers, nothing too, nothing too crazy.
- 3:57But yeah, I was pretty, I was pretty shocked.
- 3:59I mean, I, I thought, I thought they pulled out.
- 4:01I thought, especially when they went up 2720 late in the 4th.
- 4:03I, I thought they, they had it in a bag and they just kind of
- 4:07fell apart in defense. So, but we saw a good time.
- 4:09You know, I, it was my, the, the, the birthday of my, my
- 4:11friend's girlfriend. So we had a good time celebrate
- 4:14our day and then went out to downtown Raleigh and they had a
- 4:17few drinks and I just kind of chilled around and reflected in
- 4:19in sorrow of of the devastating loss.
- 4:24We just have a good day. So it was.
- 4:25It was fine. Yeah, same, Same here.
- 4:27I was down at my my mom's place this weekend, hanging out with
- 4:30all the family, watched the game with the boys.
- 4:35My, my boys got upset that they lost, which makes me feel good
- 4:38because one of them he he wanted to go do something outside in my
- 4:41middle and I go outside and do it.
- 4:43And my, my older one texted. He said, dad, they're driving.
- 4:46I think they're going to get a touchdown.
- 4:48That was the 2720 and Sheldon, like you, I thought, OK, that's
- 4:51it. Unfortunately, I went back in
- 4:53and then what happens? What happened?
- 4:55But after that we, we, we went out watch my brother-in-law and
- 4:58his band play called moonshine sun down at a little restaurant
- 5:02down off a little lake down and know where me and Brian grew up
- 5:07saying I got I didn't get jeers. I got some man that was a rough
- 5:11one for us today, right? Like yeah, it was man like
- 5:14thought we had them. So it definitely not a great
- 5:17feeling. But you know what it is what it
- 5:20is. It's tell the truth Wednesday.
- 5:22Now we're going to go know the enemy not as deep on know the
- 5:25enemy because we got a lot to unload on the front half
- 5:27tonight. Cali, that is a doe.
- 5:30Pat. Did you buy that this weekend?
- 5:32No man, I've had it. I've had it for a little while.
- 5:36Y'all know man? I just throw stuff away.
- 5:39I said maybe I need to change it up.
- 5:41You know, listen, I thought it was me.
- 5:44You know, I thought it was me. I said every fucking game I go
- 5:48to, we lose. And then somebody else said,
- 5:50well, every game I go to, we we lose.
- 5:54So it's actually Chris. I was having dinner with Chris,
- 5:57shut up my guy. And he said, well, she had every
- 6:00game I don't went to we've been losing.
- 6:01So I felt better with that. I said, well, we just losing too
- 6:05much. So I thought it was me.
- 6:07I was going to boycott orange and going to games.
- 6:09And then I realized like, Nah, man, it ain't me.
- 6:12It's fucking them. They got to do better.
- 6:14They need to win. They got to start going how to
- 6:17do what they got to do. Tell it, tell it, tell it by
- 6:21the. Way it was, it was rough, man.
- 6:23By the way, shout out right here.
- 6:24I don't know if y'all got a chance to meet him but.
- 6:26Clearly. Oh yeah.
- 6:27Oh yeah, Me and me and Will had a good time a couple nights
- 6:30there, man. Oh yeah, will man, shout out
- 6:32Will will my guy, will. Hope your wife is doing better.
- 6:36Well, she was doing pretty good the the the second time.
- 6:39She rallied man. She.
- 6:40Rallied, she rallied and came back we had a long night in the
- 6:44early morning, so she was the trooper all right but hey,
- 6:47listen, go ahead say something let's.
- 6:49Just be real. We're going to throw it out
- 6:50here. A lot of people ain't feeling
- 6:53good this week, you know? Oh.
- 6:54Hell no, Andrea says. Rye Pry.
- 6:57Steven wants to riot. I mean, you know.
- 7:01This is. This is an.
- 7:03Event session right? Yeah, we got.
- 7:05We got to get, we got to get the feelings out there, we got to
- 7:08process and then we got to put them in the trash can.
- 7:10Yeah, here's. Where we're getting them out.
- 7:12This is what I need to say about everything that goes on online,
- 7:16on Twitter, on Facebook, whatever you want to.
- 7:20I'm not the fan police. I hate that.
- 7:23I hate when people tell you how you should feel after a team
- 7:26wins, after a team loses, how long you should feel that way,
- 7:31what you should say. I'm not that person.
- 7:34Like I'm like, whatever you feel, you fucking say what you
- 7:38want to say. Get it out.
- 7:39But this is what I will say. Get that shit out on your own
- 7:42fucking page. Like if I put a post up, it's
- 7:45what I feel. Don't come on my post.
- 7:48And this is another thing. Everybody know what I look like
- 7:51everybody knows my name, everybody and I'm but I'm not
- 7:55hiding like I'm cool with it. Don't don't be behind a fake ass
- 8:00username talking a whole bunch of shit to other grown men and
- 8:03you won't step from behind that computer.
- 8:06Put a picture up of yourself and tell everybody how you feel.
- 8:09If you want to say fuck whoever on the team say it, do it, but
- 8:14make sure they know who you are. Don't hide as user 216793 and
- 8:19then go on people's page and put shit and go to somebody and oh,
- 8:23I'm going to tag this player like that's fucking goofy, man.
- 8:25Like stop doing that shit. If you want to do that as a
- 8:29grown person, do it on your own. Like create your page.
- 8:32Do hey you, you can still have a stupid ass name.
- 8:36I'm cool with that. Hulk, Hulk, a maniac hokey,
- 8:40whatever you want to put. Put a real picture up and say
- 8:43hey, I'll be here. Like I was not hiding on Broad
- 8:47Street. I promise you there were only
- 8:49four fucking black people there, you know what I'm saying?
- 8:51So everybody knew who I was. But The thing is like I'm cool
- 8:56with how everybody feels. It just like really irks me when
- 8:59somebody goes on somebody else's post and they're hiding behind
- 9:03like you can tell they just started the account because they
- 9:05only got like 2 followers, you know what I'm saying?
- 9:08And then they're oh, let's let's at Parker or Clemens on here.
- 9:12Like stop doing that shit man. If you want to do that, show
- 9:14them who you is, because when I say fucking get 70 off the
- 9:17field, he know who I am. He gets to feel how he want to
- 9:20feel about it. But you got to quit sacking the
- 9:22quarterback. You on offense.
- 9:25Stop fucking sacking our quarterback.
- 9:27So I'm going to calm down. I know we got a lot to unload.
- 9:30We do. We got to tell the truth, but
- 9:32I'm going to say something. So I put these up here and we we
- 9:37said a couple things. Me, Brian and Tally were of
- 9:39this. Don't sleepwalk, show up and
- 9:43play. Don't play down.
- 9:45Shelton, you were looking for linebacker and safety play and
- 9:49we get the first half. We were sleepwalking, we were
- 9:52playing down. Oh yeah.
- 9:54We we did not show up in the first half.
- 9:56And to Shelton's point, I, I know Shelton is probably even
- 9:59more worried about linebacker and safety play now after that
- 10:02game. So that were our keys.
- 10:06Those were our keys to say. I know he got some hellation
- 10:08stats. Oh, oh, he's not.
- 10:10It's not going to be good. It's not.
- 10:11Going to be good. I ain't got no stats.
- 10:14I got these eyes and I ain't got my glasses on.
- 10:16I'm going to tell you what I say all.
- 10:17Right, so we're going to do it. It is time to tell the truth
- 10:20Wednesday and as y'all all know it, we start with what went bad
- 10:26and we're going to kick it to Sheldon because Shelton throw us
- 10:29that ugly tackling stat that you've been researching and tell
- 10:33us how many and who are our main contributors to it.
- 10:39Well I checked PFF after the game and it's tallied up in the
- 10:43numbers. So Tech as a team had 13 missed
- 10:47tackles and I'd say average is probably on 20% missed tackle
- 10:51rate. They're definitely above that
- 10:52for sure. I don't know the exact
- 10:53percentage, but another stat to that point, Vanderbilt had 137
- 10:59rushing guards after contact. So that's essentially 137 yards
- 11:04that they are getting that they, you know, theoretically
- 11:06shouldn't be getting. Obviously you're not going to,
- 11:07you know, tackle everyone, but that's still that's still pretty
- 11:10rough. I think that was Ford more than
- 11:11Tech had. So in in terms of the big
- 11:14culprits, you know, most Phillips had three.
- 11:17I think he had two, two really bad ones in particular, the one
- 11:19where he got hurled over, put his head down.
- 11:21He did that multiple times during the game.
- 11:24Just just not not keeping it set up, not having good awareness.
- 11:27Those two were were big. And then also Kyanto Jenkins had
- 11:31three, Burgos had two, Keller had a couple and Penny had a
- 11:34couple. So I mean, it tallied up.
- 11:37I mean, there was there was kind of misuses all over the board
- 11:38and again, missed tacos are going to happen sometimes.
- 11:41But just the, the degree and I think the the situational, you
- 11:44know, the, the effect that they had in terms of, you know,
- 11:46allowing, allowing Burnabout to drink those big plays was was
- 11:50just back breaking. All right, Kelly, Brian, y'all
- 11:52saw it in person. Do the do the do the do the go
- 11:56ahead tally? I'm scared.
- 11:59I don't even know what to say. Like some of the you can't even
- 12:02count some of them as missed tackles.
- 12:04Like that's just the missed tackles.
- 12:06Some of we couldn't fucking get to know.
- 12:07But like the angles was bad, the fits was bad.
- 12:11So 13 should have been 30. We chasing people, we chase, we
- 12:16chasing the wrong people. It was Chris Maher.
- 12:19Hey man, you got to do something.
- 12:23Yeah, it looks like a team that didn't prepare to play against
- 12:27the triple option team, which I mean, if you didn't know what
- 12:30what was coming, I mean, we, we, we saw, we saw Jerry kill.
- 12:36We, we, we, we seen what they were doing in New Mexico State.
- 12:39We know you're going to get a heavy dose of quarterback run.
- 12:41You're going to get a heavy dose of that pitch game.
- 12:46And they brought it right at us. And we had no answer for Pavia
- 12:51outside of the tackles if he if he broke contain.
- 12:55I mean, he was just doing whatever he wanted to.
- 12:57And it was that death by 1000 cuts that you hate to watch.
- 13:00Like, I'll take a big play here and there, regroup, go back, get
- 13:05a stop, force the field goal. It was just 8 yards, 12 yards, 6
- 13:10yards, five. You're like, we never it it, it
- 13:13took until almost like that second-half before we really had
- 13:18a, a stack of plays that you felt good about.
- 13:21Were you like, OK, well, we, we got them off the field.
- 13:23And even then a couple times it's like, OK, well, we got
- 13:26bailed out by a drop or we got bailed out by this.
- 13:28Like they bailed out, bailed us out a couple times.
- 13:32You know, they, they gave us essentially three points.
- 13:35We took it back, unfortunately with that that 00.
- 13:39Penalty. We're going to talk about that.
- 13:41But you know, they, they, they made mistakes too.
- 13:44And we capitalize almost zero on their mistakes.
- 13:47Meanwhile, they they did a very good job of capitalizing on the
- 13:51things that we were doing poorly.
- 13:52Brian Yeah. And and you know what was much
- 13:55more concerning to me? More than like like losing like
- 13:59fucking first of all, I'm going to get to my point, but I got to
- 14:02say this stop giving me stop giving me hope Like if we get
- 14:06beat 30 to 0 then I'm just going to accept the 30 to 0.
- 14:09Stop giving me hope like we going to win and then we fucking
- 14:12go and lose like that shit burns me up.
- 14:15But what was concerning to me was like we have these players
- 14:19that we know what they are right?
- 14:21Like, you want somebody to take a step forward and then they get
- 14:25on the field and they don't take that step forward.
- 14:28Like put try somebody else. Like why didn't we see McDonald?
- 14:34Well, why don't we see? Well, the whole thing is, and
- 14:36this is I'm going to, I'm going to kind of jump in here for just
- 14:39a second because the concern was last year, this is the way it
- 14:44started last year. Exactly what we saw Saturday was
- 14:47exactly what we saw some of the early games last year.
- 14:50And then over time over starting about pit, it got a little
- 14:53better. We may take a step back, but
- 14:55then we take a step forward. The issue I'm having, the first
- 14:58thing I ask is how much after the Pit game was Brent Pry in
- 15:02the linebacker room? That's my first question.
- 15:05Because something changed because it got better at the end
- 15:08of the season. Not perfect, not monumental
- 15:10steps, but enough of a step where we felt this season like
- 15:14we're not starting back at square one.
- 15:16This year. We're we're better.
- 15:17We're better filling gaps. We're better at understanding we
- 15:22look like the exact same team again.
- 15:24And that should not happen. That should not happen.
- 15:27Slight regression, fine. This is full regression back to
- 15:30the beginning of 2023. That's the issue.
- 15:33And Shelton, as far as you go, it was 20%.
- 15:35They're in 64 plays. So 1364 that's we 20% of their
- 15:41plays. We missed a tackle and they only
- 15:43had 181 rushing. Y'all 181 rushing and Sheldon
- 15:47130. Therefore, pretty much 75% of
- 15:52their yards were after contact, which is crappy.
- 15:55It tells you the tackling was piss poor.
- 15:58Whole thing all the way up there.
- 16:00And you know, that's my concern and and that's my concern now
- 16:05with Chris Marv is that room took a, the unit itself took a
- 16:11monumental step back. A Can you get them at least to
- 16:15where we were like middle point last year?
- 16:17Not at the end of last year when they were playing what I feel
- 16:20like was solid football, not not haul Adibi football, but just
- 16:24solid linebacker play. Can we get back there quickly or
- 16:28is it going to take 345 games to get there because we ain't got
- 16:31time this year to do that shit. We.
- 16:33Do not, we do not have time to do it this year because.
- 16:37My heart can't take it. But also, I mean, think about,
- 16:40think about we got a window here, right?
- 16:41Like we got a window the AC CS down, we got a pretty middling
- 16:46out of out of conference schedule, all things considered.
- 16:48Obviously Vanderbilt showed us that that doesn't really mean
- 16:51shit, but there's an opportunity here.
- 16:54We need to get our head out of our ass a little bit and do the
- 16:58things that this team does well. I feel like so much of that game
- 17:01we we thought that we could do what we do and it will be good
- 17:04enough instead of focusing on what they do poorly and
- 17:08exploiting that and trying to hide the things that we do
- 17:11poorly. We did not do a very good job of
- 17:13that early on. We got pushed around up front.
- 17:18We saw it early. We weren't able to establish
- 17:20anything on the run. We weren't stretching the
- 17:22defense so the things underneath could open up.
- 17:25And all of a sudden, you know you have one tip ball that
- 17:27results in interception and you're down to scores, end up
- 17:31going down 3 scores before you finally get things going.
- 17:34And then on defense, it was just so slow to adjust to what they
- 17:39were doing. And when the when the
- 17:42adjustments finally came, it was more to stop the bleeding
- 17:45instead of taking it to them and kind of dictating to the
- 17:49offense. We never, we, I don't ever felt
- 17:52like any point of that game. We were dictating to the
- 17:55offense. We were based.
- 17:57We were basically saying we're going to play it safe and make
- 17:59sure that they don't get this first down.
- 18:02But at no point did it feel like we were taking it to them.
- 18:05All right, Sheldon, I'm going to let you flop this flip on this
- 18:09one next because Shelton's got the grades and, and I do want to
- 18:12talk obviously about the poor grades, but a couple guys did
- 18:16have OK grades. So let's run through some of the
- 18:19linebacker and safeties grades there.
- 18:21And then what these guys, what y'all saw?
- 18:25Because y'all saw y'all were there in person.
- 18:26I'm watching on TV, Sheldon walks on TV, but sometimes
- 18:29things look different in person. So Sheldon, give us some
- 18:32linebacker and safety grades for this game.
- 18:35Yeah, so let's start off with the with the linebackers.
- 18:39So obviously you know the big guy was looking for was Sam
- 18:41Bromfield, came in from MTSU transfer.
- 18:47Yeah, Sheldon, we lost you for a second there.
- 18:50But yeah, we're. Back.
- 18:59You're back now. Back.
- 19:01Yeah, you're good. OK Oh, yeah.
- 19:03Have some Internet issues, but yeah, so you're talking about
- 19:05Brumfield. Like I said, from what I could
- 19:07tell, he struggled to get off blocks.
- 19:08He grid out as a 59, which is, you know, pretty average.
- 19:12Jenkins was also averaged at a 60.
- 19:13Like I said, three missed tackles.
- 19:15Keller started the game but only played 29 snaps.
- 19:18I thought he made some poor reads.
- 19:20And then Kelly Lawson did not grid out very well.
- 19:23Well, he was around 53 and and there was one play, I think that
- 19:27that second touchdown run by Vanderbilt and he just got
- 19:29bullied just like pile driven backwards like 10 yards and
- 19:33knocked into Mos Phillips, who was trying to make the tackle on
- 19:35that on that second run. So kind of just got out of work
- 19:39there. We did not see much at all of
- 19:41Jane McDonald. I think he played one snap.
- 19:43I'm not exactly sure why, but it it happened.
- 19:46So and then talk about some of the safeties and just, you know,
- 19:49DVS in general. Caleb Blitzen, pretty solid 71
- 19:54grade. That was a good spot.
- 19:55Jalen Jones was also solid at 63.
- 19:58And. Then obviously Moses Phillips,
- 20:00which we can, you know, talk about upcoming, did not grade
- 20:04out well. He was at 53, like I said,
- 20:07missed a couple big tackles, had some misassignments that led to
- 20:10some big pass plays and then. Also in their monster lane.
- 20:15Probably the worst game is career.
- 20:16Honestly great. I was 44.
- 20:18Missed a few jams at the line of scrimmage.
- 20:21And. Give the big the big touch on
- 20:22pass. Yeah, I I thought he kind of
- 20:25played with slow feet and just wasn't very wasn't very active.
- 20:27So lots of a couple good, but lots of bad from those from
- 20:31those linebackers and DBS. Yeah, and the biggest is, is
- 20:34you're saying they're the only person who played two guys close
- 20:38to average was Brumfield and Jenkins.
- 20:40And it was literally right at average.
- 20:42Jenkins missing 3 tackles huge probably in why he got an
- 20:47average grade, which is, you know, OK, but the whole thing is
- 20:52you can't have an if the entire group plays average, it's
- 20:55probably OK, but you can't have two average guys and then
- 20:59basically everybody else with an and and I don't know what else
- 21:04to say on that because for the linebacker, its keys, it's
- 21:07reads, it's where you're supposed to go.
- 21:09And I don't know how much it takes into account when it comes
- 21:12to, you know, what we saw and y'all were already mentioning it
- 21:17a couple times already today, which is guys not going to the
- 21:21right spots, guys hesitating. The couple times that I saw on
- 21:25some of those runs, Brian Tally, I know y'all probably saw it.
- 21:29You saw lineback, you saw them take that false step inside.
- 21:32And the next thing you know was a damn sweet.
- 21:33And it's just like, and I'm sure y'all sitting there with y'all
- 21:37football background saying no, that is not your responsibility.
- 21:40Your responsibility is on the outside shoulder of the tackle.
- 21:44That's where you're supposed to be waiting, not sticking your
- 21:46head inside because it seemed like every time somebody stuck
- 21:48their head inside, especially linebackers, it was outside and
- 21:52it was big games. Or.
- 21:53Solid games. Yeah, so I mean, from, from what
- 21:58I've seen and I, I've watched a little bit since I've been home,
- 22:01but not much. But just from being there and
- 22:04watching, you know, I, it's different when you're there.
- 22:07Of course, you know, you don't get to see as much as you can on
- 22:10TV, but I can tell you, I've seen #20 on the defense was
- 22:14probably the best linebacker that we had.
- 22:16I didn't know any stats. Woodson, was he just he, he has
- 22:21instincts and some other people don't.
- 22:23And another thing, I get it, you have to play with who you have,
- 22:29but I feel that some of our linebackers are their safeties.
- 22:35They're not linebackers. Like we're not coming downhill
- 22:38hitting people, You know, we chasing plays.
- 22:41You know, Kelly Lawson is a athletic freak, but he's not a
- 22:45linebacker. The more and more it goes on.
- 22:47I mean, he can chase a tackle down, but he can't stop or run.
- 22:52You know, if you go look at teams like even like LSU that
- 22:55lost, so Texas A&M, they linebackers are going to come
- 22:58downhill and they're going to hit you.
- 23:00You know, we just, our linebackers aren't doing that.
- 23:02And I don't know if it's the scheme they got them in, but
- 23:04they're flowing too much side to side more than being responsible
- 23:09for a gap. But I'm all for saying if
- 23:12somebody's not getting the job done, put somebody else in.
- 23:15I ain't saying bench them, but you got to see what you got.
- 23:18You have too much talent on the team to continue trotting people
- 23:22out who aren't getting the job done.
- 23:24Yeah, I'm with that. And I think, I think the big
- 23:26thing I didn't like was with the linebacker play.
- 23:29And this kind of goes back to Marv too, is the adjustments and
- 23:32just how they were working with the leverage in that triple
- 23:37option. They were constantly
- 23:39overrunning. They were giving Pavi up the
- 23:42lanes he needed to create there. I did like the fact that that
- 23:46the adjustment wasn't to just run at Pavia with the option
- 23:50man, get the ball out of his hands, live and die.
- 23:53Get get some predictable outcomes where you know, OK,
- 23:55we're getting the ball into a running backs hand and then
- 23:59let's see what happens. Let's see if we can make a
- 24:00tackle out there on the running back.
- 24:02Well, Brian Pavia was out there killing us and when when he
- 24:05wasn't killing us, he was able to make a pretty easy pitch and
- 24:08their running back was able to get 5 or 6 yards, 8 or 9 yards
- 24:11and and keep the sticks moving. But I'm going to make a point,
- 24:14Brian, me and you talked yesterday about 30 minutes and
- 24:16it was an anger session. Brian, you said you absolutely
- 24:20hated what we were our our game plan for how we attacked this
- 24:24offense. You, you basically said to me,
- 24:27whoever is on Pavia, go, I don't give a damn.
- 24:30Go hit him every freaking time. Hit him.
- 24:33They are running option. He is a runner, he is not a
- 24:36passer. And we did the exact opposite of
- 24:39that. We set back on our heels.
- 24:41We were doing the, the, the classic, you know, option, man,
- 24:44you're going to slow play it, see, see what the quarterback
- 24:47does, make the quarterback make the decision and then commit
- 24:49like, but the problem was, is that we were kind of out on the
- 24:51island and no one was committing and we were getting out
- 24:55leveraged. And when you're, when you're out
- 24:57leveraged by the quarterback, the quarterback's able to cut up
- 24:59inside, he's able to get to the spill area.
- 25:02We weren't doing a good job with our fields from the safety
- 25:04position. It was just kind of all over the
- 25:06map as far as bad play against the triple option scheme with
- 25:10the quarterback that's capable of of hurting you with his legs.
- 25:13All right, real quick, I want to throw this up here because this
- 25:15is one of our one of our well known listeners.
- 25:20And Shelton, I don't know if you have this right away, but what
- 25:23were our end grades against the run game for this week?
- 25:26Thanks Yost for putting that up there.
- 25:30How many Yost this weekend, too, Yeah.
- 25:31Yeah, I got it. So yeah, APRAPR was a little bit
- 25:38above average. Nelson was kind of right around
- 25:41average. And then CJ McRae, he got 22
- 25:44snaps, a little below average. So kind of some kind of mixed
- 25:48bag. I mean, I know, I know Price
- 25:50said he would, You know, he wasn't, you know, dissatisfied
- 25:53with the the performance of defensive line.
- 25:54I think he was more so concerned about kind of the the perimeter
- 25:57players. 100% there. Also shout out Uncle Dwight.
- 26:04Like we all said, kind of we we felt like we'd already
- 26:07accomplished something we ain't accomplished yet.
- 26:10Luckily, it's game one. Luckily it's game one.
- 26:14All right, so you already mentioned his name, but Shelton
- 26:20mansoor delaying greater than 44 worse in his career and y'all,
- 26:25the stat line won't pretty guys. Shelton pulled it up.
- 26:27Shelton found it. Let's talk about Mansoor and
- 26:31what went on with him. So Sheldon Floor is yours again.
- 26:36Yeah, well, it was, it was rough.
- 26:38I mean, you kind of had high expectations for him coming to
- 26:41the season just because of the body of work he had.
- 26:42And he figured it's year three. He came in good as a freshman,
- 26:46good as a sophomore last year, and he just put, he just put up
- 26:48a dud. So he was 5 for seven when
- 26:51targeted 102 yards, I think, correct me if I'm wrong.
- 26:54And he gave up a touchdown as well.
- 26:57And no, no pass break UPS either.
- 26:59So they they went to him hard. Dorian Sean was not targeted the
- 27:03entire game. I honestly don't think
- 27:05Vanderbilt really cared to Targum at all, especially with
- 27:08the, you know, the successor having obviously in the run game
- 27:11and but also on that side of the field too.
- 27:15I just thought, you know, he he missed a couple of jams, a line
- 27:17of scrimmage, which led to some big fast plays.
- 27:19I thought his eyes were looking at the quarterback a couple of
- 27:22those times. So he wasn't getting, wasn't
- 27:24getting, I think the release that he should have been getting
- 27:26kind of, you know, I think that tells me that he's kind of
- 27:28playing for the stats almost, you know, maybe trying to go for
- 27:30the INT rather than, you know, just sticking to his technique.
- 27:33But I just I I thought he was slow and kind of flat footed.
- 27:35You know, there was one poster out over the middle where he
- 27:38just got his feet tripped up. The Vanderbilt wide receiver
- 27:41made it, you know, a pretty hard cut over the middle of the
- 27:43field. And he just could not, you know,
- 27:45keep up. And you know, part of that was
- 27:48misassignments by the safeties. But like, you just, you got to
- 27:52be better. I mean, you have expectations
- 27:53for a guy like that. You just, you got to be better.
- 27:55And they had so much success going after him.
- 27:59Tally, Brian. Y'all were there.
- 28:02Y'all saw it? Yeah, he was.
- 28:05He was playing on banana peels. Yeah, he like he's playing Mario
- 28:09Kart. I don't know, man.
- 28:11You know, I don't know if he hurt.
- 28:13I can say this. I've seen him play.
- 28:15It's not like he's a freshman. This is his first time getting
- 28:18in. Like we've seen him play so we
- 28:20know he can play, but that wasn't him.
- 28:23Like what was happening then in that game was was not what I'm
- 28:27used to seeing. You know, you going to get beat
- 28:29sometime, but you can't get beat every time.
- 28:32He got beat every time. Even on the ones that they like.
- 28:36I think Sheldon just said he was 5 for seven.
- 28:38They fucking dropped them too. Seriously, don't look at it
- 28:42like. At least one of them I.
- 28:53Don't know if he was thinking too much about run support
- 28:56because of the way they were gashed to the run game or what,
- 28:59but he did not play like him. He wasn't.
- 29:01Thinking about no run support, he was getting that ass toe up
- 29:04in the first quarter when he if you go look at it and again, I
- 29:09am playing, I don't play cornerback.
- 29:10You got to go talk to Dion about that.
- 29:12But I can say this dude was chopping his feet like he was
- 29:16Ocho cinco on the line and getting loose on him when he
- 29:20made the diving catch. We had him beat by two steps.
- 29:23Could have been a better throat. That would have been a
- 29:25touchdown. Like kids, and no disrespect to
- 29:29Vanderbilt's players, like they made some great plays.
- 29:31But again, we've seen Monsoor play and we know that he can
- 29:35make plays, but either they had his number or something wasn't
- 29:41right about it. It could have been overhyped,
- 29:43you know what I'm saying? That's a lot of stuff to go into
- 29:46it. You know, when you start, when
- 29:48you start getting paid, it's a job.
- 29:50And hell, I know I have bad, I'm in sales, I have bad days at
- 29:53work all the time. And my boss calls me like, what
- 29:56the fuck are you doing today? Like this is the goal and this
- 29:59is what you're at. And I'm like, man, I'm sorry.
- 30:01You know, I was thinking about my kid.
- 30:03My kid got a game tonight. You know, I got to get my mind
- 30:06right. I'm sorry.
- 30:06I come back tomorrow. I'll be better.
- 30:09Only thing about this is this, this was a game day and this was
- 30:12the first game of the season. So it was a horrible time for
- 30:15him to beat have an off night, you know what I'm saying?
- 30:19And. Not on ESPN, Yeah.
- 30:21Or not on ACC Network. Not on the year it was on ESPN.
- 30:25It was there one game. There the whole world watching.
- 30:28So you know, I, I hope that you know, he can come back and have
- 30:32his redemption tour because he can ball man.
- 30:35I mean, everybody's been, everybody's been talking, you
- 30:37know, talking crazy to him and stuff like that.
- 30:39That's just what, what football is.
- 30:41But I just hope he comes back. I hope he comes back and fucking
- 30:45have 3 picks this week or something.
- 30:47We got to do something. Well, Shawn said it straight up
- 30:49worse than his career and the kids played with 13 last year he
- 30:53played like a he's played 24 games and he'd never had that
- 30:56bad of a game and he'd always played good.
- 30:59Brian, what you got? Yeah, I mean, it was just weird
- 31:02to see that type of performance out of Monsieur.
- 31:05Like, like Sally said, I don't know if something's going on,
- 31:09just too much height. Whatever it was, it it was not
- 31:12the game that you wanted to see him put out there, especially
- 31:16considering what we've been talking about heading into the
- 31:19season, right? Like, you know, we had Grayson
- 31:22on here. We were talking about like, you
- 31:23know, if Mansur takes another step this year, you know, could
- 31:26this be one of those duos that we talk about in terms of
- 31:29cornerbacks, you know, looking back to the 2000s And if if we
- 31:34see that every week, hell fucking no.
- 31:36I mean, it's it's not going to be a conversation and and that's
- 31:40disappointing because of how they were successfully running
- 31:43the football. We really needed to get some
- 31:46plus plays out there when they. We wouldn't.
- 31:49We might have not talked about the game like we might not talk
- 31:51about how bad the game was. If we get this pick, at least
- 31:54you get a pick, you know what I'm saying?
- 31:56We we might have been talking about it, but we were like, he
- 31:58did not play good, but damn, did you see that pick?
- 32:01He went up. We.
- 32:02Got it, brought it down. But we don't get to say that.
- 32:05What I'll say is this Sheldon, you said one O 2.
- 32:09They only had 190 yards passing. So he was 60 plus percent of
- 32:16that. Again, that's something we
- 32:19definitely we talked about not being prepared for something.
- 32:21Him being that bad because Dorian strong held up his end,
- 32:25held up his end. I don't know his grade, Sheldon,
- 32:27if that's in front of you there. They didn't even look his way.
- 32:30They were like the the the 44 magnum.
- 32:33That's what we going to start calling him now.
- 32:35Don't go that way. Why?
- 32:36Because he'll shoot you and you're going to be dead.
- 32:41But we need to give, we need to give Monsoor 47 so he can be an
- 32:44AK or something. We got to get him.
- 32:47We got to get him out of that 4 right now, man, shit, forget
- 32:51him. He was paying that four so.
- 32:53How good was Dorian for real? Because it seems like.
- 32:58I mean, it's hard to say overall.
- 33:00Overall, I'll go ahead, Sheldon. Yeah, overall he was pretty
- 33:07great at pretty average to the IT was just a big, a big
- 33:10imbalance between the pass coverage and the run defense.
- 33:12They PFF did not like his run defense.
- 33:14They had it as a as a 38. So coverage wise, coverage wise,
- 33:18he was good, but they didn't like the run defense.
- 33:22Awesome. All righty, All righty.
- 33:25So we got the defense out of the way, or most of it out of the
- 33:29way. I only took 30 minutes.
- 33:35Let's go to the special teams blunder because that was just a
- 33:39absolute F up. So it's a 54 yard field goal and
- 33:42we still got a question. This 54 yard field goal.
- 33:47They get a delay a game that he he Shanks it left.
- 33:51They get delay a game. You know, we accept which if we
- 33:55can you can you decline a delay a game, you know, because we
- 33:59should have and like no, no, we don't want that date.
- 34:01That ball was kicked. Then the punt happens and it's
- 34:07an OK punt. We get it about the 8.
- 34:09This is cool. They thought was like well
- 34:11there's penalty on the field and I don't know the exact call.
- 34:16I just know they got a chance to kick it.
- 34:17It was from 53 yards this time, not 54.
- 34:21In any drug in your life. Have y'all ever seen that?
- 34:26I have never seen 2 numbers on the field at the same time.
- 34:30Now to coach Price credit, he immediately owned it and said
- 34:33that's on me I'm the head coach. He was not going to get Stu Holt
- 34:38bust because well by all means Stu, that's your unit you should
- 34:42have taken the bullet. But if y'all ever seen anything
- 34:46like that happened? I've never seen it happen.
- 34:51And you know, when we talk about this stuff, you know, we're
- 34:54talking about in the last what, like three to four years, maybe
- 34:57five years, that the prominence of single digits on offense and
- 35:03defense has really risen, especially when you start
- 35:05getting into guys that aren't skilled players.
- 35:07So usually like even if you run out of guy there.
- 35:11That. Is a skilled position player on
- 35:14offense that now is punt returning right?
- 35:16Usually the chances of that overlap is pretty small because
- 35:20you're only talking about three to four players potentially with
- 35:23those single digits. Now with D line linebackers, all
- 35:26these guys with single digits, it's it's, it's definitely
- 35:29something that you got to keep a keep an eye on.
- 35:33And then you got another situation where again, the, the,
- 35:37the guy that's out there now is Jennings in the 0 and the guy
- 35:41that matched up with him didn't even wear that number.
- 35:44Last year he was he was 21 last year he wasn't 0.
- 35:47So, you know, it's one of those things where if, if that that
- 35:53situation had to have been practiced at some point where
- 35:55they said, OK, well, we've got our second, our second return
- 35:59man in here. And we've got a guy that's
- 36:01number two on the depth chart at linebacker in the game at the
- 36:04same time on the on the punt return team that had to be seen
- 36:08at some point and said, hey, this might cause some problems.
- 36:12So I'm not sure how we're not prepared for that, that, that.
- 36:15Yeah, we was doing from the beginning because, because
- 36:18Tucker's not playing. I mean, if Tucker would have
- 36:20been that, he would have been out there.
- 36:21So, you know, it it when you start looking at Virginia Tech
- 36:24shit you like, hey man, are is that school on a some kind of
- 36:29like Native American burial ground or something?
- 36:32Like if it's going to happen, this fucking happening to us,
- 36:35you know what I'm saying? There's an injury if somebody's
- 36:38going pro early, it's fucking happening to us.
- 36:40We are. I don't know man, y'all better
- 36:42start praying like I grew up, Holiness anoint the buildings
- 36:47and helmets and stuff. Go get you a bottle of oil from
- 36:50the stove. I don't know if y'all ever been
- 36:52to a hole in this church. Go get you a bottle of oil, pray
- 36:55over it, take it to the chaplain, let him do his thing.
- 36:59Start anointing everybody's head and the helmets and go through
- 37:02the rooms and start praying. We're going to start coming in
- 37:06with the incense. And we got to exercise some
- 37:08demons, man. I've never seen somebody try to
- 37:11kick a 54 yard, a 54 yard field goal, miss it.
- 37:19You can't. I think it's a dead ball foul.
- 37:21So it is like, no, we don't want it.
- 37:25And then they punt it and then they throw a flag and then they
- 37:29kick it. And I've never seen it happen to
- 37:31no team but Virginia Tech. Y'all know my theory, I ain't
- 37:34saying it aloud though. Y'all know my theory.
- 37:38I've texted y'all numerous time about it.
- 37:40What's your theory? I ain't.
- 37:43I'll tell you after the show. OK.
- 37:46I might get drunk and stay in the program and say it.
- 37:47Sheldon, go ahead, man. Yeah, it it happens once in Blue
- 37:51Moon. I mean, I remember the season
- 37:53over last year between Florida and Utah, there was a Florida
- 37:56had that same penalty and Utah and in depth square and touched
- 37:59on on that drive. So it happens every so often.
- 38:01But look, I mean, the way it is, we've got all these support
- 38:05staffers, all these analytics guys in the field in the press
- 38:07box for that to happen with the amount of, you know, eye
- 38:09eyeballs you have on it, just inexcusable.
- 38:12Quite. Honestly.
- 38:13Man, let me out there, I would have seen that.
- 38:16If y'all get me on that sideline, I promise you I'm
- 38:18going to check it out. Listen, if y'all did not see
- 38:21what Dwight Victoria said, y'all see what Dwight said.
- 38:24Tweet during the game there should be no duplicate numbers.
- 38:28You earn your one number. There should never be two
- 38:30numbers. I want the Dwight Victoria rule
- 38:33in effect now. No duplicate numbers.
- 38:36But what if I'm a walk on? Then you don't get a number
- 38:40until you earn it. You got to be one of the 100.
- 38:43If you ain't in the 2D. You don't get one.
- 38:47If you're not in the 2D from special teams, you don't get a
- 38:49number. What's his name?
- 38:51What's what's the Shelton? The the the long time equipment
- 38:56guy? Why is his name escaping me?
- 39:00Y'all? He's been there for like 45
- 39:02years. We don't know who you talking
- 39:04about, I forget. Y'all know?
- 39:06Well, they always do a story on him.
- 39:08It's great. He's a nice, it seems like the
- 39:09nicest guy to work. Let's let's move on because the
- 39:12offense ain't getting away with this shit, even though they put
- 39:15up some points in a second. Lester.
- 39:16There we go. Thank you, William Lester.
- 39:19Lester, everybody gets one number.
- 39:22You hear me? Everybody gets one number.
- 39:24By the way, I do agree with this.
- 39:27It was not the Liberty shit from 2020.
- 39:29But it won't great. And we got Lester Carlin.
- 39:33Yeah, we still running duplicate numbers, Chris.
- 39:35All right, let's go to the offensive side of the ball
- 39:38because in my life, well, I've seen it in my lifetime.
- 39:41But with this team, the decal and Hyde, the bipolar offense.
- 39:46First half, Shelton, did you get to write it down how many yards
- 39:51we had in the first half? I don't have a yard.
- 39:54Sure. Well, I forgot that I think.
- 39:56I think it was like 86 or something.
- 39:58It was 86. He told me this yesterday, 86
- 40:01yards. Do y'all know how many we had in
- 40:03the second-half? And we didn't look great in the
- 40:05second-half at times. A lot more than that. 311 yeah,
- 40:11311 so we talked about yesterday.
- 40:14It's OK man. Just somebody say something
- 40:18because that that. Yeah, we, Brian, you look like
- 40:23you got some. I was about to go.
- 40:24Go ahead, man. Go ahead.
- 40:27Man, so it's it's the bipolar of the offense, but it's also the
- 40:33and I and I'll, I'll give I'll give Tyler Bone a little credit
- 40:36here before we move on. He got to his adjustment earlier
- 40:41than Marv did, but. Too fucking late.
- 40:45Way too late way. Too late.
- 40:48The last drive of the last drive drive and 1/2 of the of the
- 40:52first half is not when you want to say, OK, well, well, they're
- 40:56taking away this. So we we need to switch it up.
- 40:58We need to actually move the ball down field.
- 41:00I get that. We had a decent running game
- 41:03last year. I get that we have one of the
- 41:04best running backs in the ACC in our backfield.
- 41:07I get those things. But also, we've got 4 wide
- 41:12receivers that could probably start on just about any team in
- 41:16the ACC, and we need to feed those guys and we need to feed
- 41:19those guys more than 10 yards down the field.
- 41:22Yeah, you had one of them that made us living on the going
- 41:24deep. He's 65.
- 41:26We didn't throw no fades. We didn't throw him no 5050 deep
- 41:31balls. I don't know man.
- 41:34He catches 9 yards like. You say we got one of the best
- 41:38running backs in the ACC. We gave him 9 carries, he had 9
- 41:44carries. Our quarterback had 16 for 19
- 41:46yards. They can't win like that.
- 41:49Daquan 2 for 1313, sorry and Shelton because we already here
- 41:54in Tally announced it. Can you announce how many games
- 41:57we've won when facial Tooting doesn't carry the ball more than
- 42:0112 times? Was like one or 00.
- 42:06Yep, that's what I figured. We have not won a game, but he
- 42:10does not carry the ball more than 12 times.
- 42:12He carried it 9. And the probably is most of
- 42:16those nine were in the early part of the game where we were
- 42:20actually running against the stack box because we were
- 42:24throwing 5 yard outs to the tight end and a couple hitches
- 42:29and a couple ends inside of 10 yards.
- 42:31We were not getting those safeties back.
- 42:34They were able to just come up to you off on us.
- 42:37The linebackers were going downhill the whole time.
- 42:40I mean, we did nothing to make them have to think a little bit
- 42:43about where they needed to be early in that game.
- 42:46And then you get the bad luck of a tip screen pass that ends up
- 42:50get interception that puts you even further behind your
- 42:53schedule as an offense. It was just a combination of bad
- 42:56luck and just bad scheme. A whole lot of that first half
- 43:01that that got us really in a position where, you know, we
- 43:04were playing from behind against the team that we you know, if
- 43:07you go out there and you just execute, OK, if if you're if you
- 43:11have a decent scheme in the first half and you go out there
- 43:13and you know, you keep it A1 score game or a three-point game
- 43:17heading to halftime, you're in a much better position.
- 43:20But we did not even do that against.
- 43:23Honestly I still consider a very mid Vanderbilt team even with
- 43:28Diego Pavia in the backfield. No, I agree.
- 43:33I agree man. It just too long to adjust.
- 43:36I, I really think from looking at the game, I thought we walked
- 43:41in with our new uniforms on and all of the hype and all of that
- 43:46stuff and thought, are we just a better team?
- 43:48We just going to run over them. We're just going to run it down
- 43:51our thoughts and it didn't happen.
- 43:53And I feel like our coaches were stubborn.
- 43:56I feel like they said we're going to make this work.
- 43:59This is going to work. And it fucking did not work.
- 44:02And when they finally realized that it wasn't working and they
- 44:05switched it up, they realized that they can get some offense
- 44:07going. I think we ended up having more
- 44:09yards than I'm on offense. If not, we're really close.
- 44:13And it was like, yeah, you would have never thought that 86 yards
- 44:16in the first half. I mean, and I think Kyron was 22
- 44:20for 33322. He didn't have a good game and
- 44:25y'all know, that's my family, that's my guy.
- 44:28Karen did not have a great game. And if like I have people saying
- 44:31that it looks like your quarterback did good like 2
- 44:34touchdowns, 1 interception, it's not a bad game.
- 44:38Even could have went over 4. You know what I'm saying?
- 44:40Like we were wasting, we were wasting plays by running him.
- 44:46He gets he gets cramps and I, and I'm gonna let I think
- 44:50Sheldon's got something to say. He's going to give us some
- 44:52actual statistics. Your quarterback gets cramps.
- 44:59He's got most, most everybody who plays sports knows when you
- 45:03get cramps, it's usually in your legs.
- 45:07You roll. I mean, you lay on your back and
- 45:09you you pick your leg up and you see them all that stretching
- 45:11this, they push it in the toe. Back always got cramps.
- 45:14He was cramping so bad he was laying on his face.
- 45:18So I don't even know what part of his body was all cramping.
- 45:21I just know he was cramping, probably both legs.
- 45:23He was laying down, face mask in the ground.
- 45:26What do our coaches do? We put our backup in.
- 45:30He runs for 15 yards. You put your starting
- 45:33quarterback in, back in and say, oh, he deserves to go back in.
- 45:36He's earned that right. And you call a fucking running
- 45:39play for somebody who got a full body clamp and 132° weather.
- 45:45Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Oh man, you do got some stuff on
- 45:51drones because drones was one of the what went wells.
- 45:54Give us a little bit on him. Yeah, so I got I got a few
- 45:58thoughts off. And so First off, you know, I
- 45:59listened to I listened to Brett Price press conference this week
- 46:03and he kind of laid out a little bit of the details of of the
- 46:05game plan that they're trying to do.
- 46:07So, you know, you IA lot of people criticize the horizontal
- 46:10passing. I think they wanted to kind of
- 46:13get the ball out of the perimeter and kind of have their
- 46:14wide receivers blocked rather than the online, you know, get
- 46:16their guys out in space, which you know, to be fair, it worked
- 46:18a lot last year. You know, it seemed like Kyron,
- 46:22yes, there were some design screen calls, but he was also
- 46:24checking down lots and and probably felt like some of those
- 46:27check downs were the correct decision.
- 46:29I think sometimes you might have gotten spooked a little bit as
- 46:31well. You look at some of the the
- 46:33passing splits for Kyron, 33 passes, 12 were short, so that's
- 46:39zero to 9 yards. 10 more were behind the line of scrimmage for
- 46:42a total of 2/3 of his passing attempts within that, you know,
- 46:46zero to to 9 up range or or behind line of scrimmage.
- 46:48So very safe and conservative. Again, I understand the thinking
- 46:52there to what Bryan was saying. It seemed to me like Vanderbilt,
- 46:56Stevenson front seven had a really good beat on the plays
- 46:59Tech was running. You know, there's sometimes
- 47:00where the blocking was bad for the wide receivers, the tight
- 47:03ends, you know, sometimes they, they didn't have the right angle
- 47:06because the, the Vanderbilt linebackers would just get, you
- 47:08know, they just, they, they were got out leveraged, you know,
- 47:12'cause they could see, you know, what play was coming.
- 47:14I personally think that Vanderbilt did a good job of
- 47:18checking into the right play. And again, obviously we don't
- 47:21know exactly what the, you know, what the pre snap calls are, but
- 47:24it just seemed like Vanderbilt kind of knew it was coming.
- 47:26And so they saw whatever tech had lined up, they checked out
- 47:31of it, checked into the right play and then they had success.
- 47:34So I don't know. I, I, I think Bowen, like you
- 47:37said, took a long time to adjust.
- 47:39I think it kind of, you know, played into their game plan a
- 47:41little bit, which obviously didn't help.
- 47:44But to talk about drones a little bit more, they actually
- 47:47graded him really well. 82 grade by PFF.
- 47:49Now let's not take PFF as gospel.
- 47:51I mean, you know, they're it's objective grades too.
- 47:54But I can kind of understand thinking of like, you know, he
- 47:56he made some good plays for the most part.
- 47:58He was pretty careful with the ball, had a couple bad throws,
- 48:00but you know, so does everyone. So and he got and he got
- 48:03pressured 10 * 2, which is not which is not great.
- 48:06So I think he might have got a little bit spooked and I'm sure
- 48:08that probably played a factor as well.
- 48:09Like like I said, with the injury too, and you know, the
- 48:12the weather being a factor there.
- 48:13So All in all, I mean, I just, I think it was a great game plan
- 48:16that Vanderbilt and I think it just, it just took Tech a little
- 48:19bit too long to adjust because you could tell their defense
- 48:23just had everything, everything to a team.
- 48:26Oh yeah, 100% on that. Now the other thing that I'll
- 48:30say in my opinion is the following.
- 48:35See, I get this right here. The horizontal game, I think
- 48:39what y'all have said is perfect. I think they knew it was coming
- 48:43pretty quick. So with that being said, why
- 48:49didn't we get it off of it quicker?
- 48:50Like because they were eating it up it, it wasn't like we were
- 48:53making big breaks. Again, it's 86 yards in the
- 48:56first half. It's not 100 and 15120 a 130
- 49:01where you say OK, we drove the ball multiple times on them
- 49:03doing this. That's my bigger issue is that
- 49:06no time, at no point in time did it work.
- 49:10At no point we had to go for 4th down on our side of the field to
- 49:14get a first down on one of the first drives and then we went
- 49:17week 3 plays later. So that is my bigger concern.
- 49:21And it's a concern going forward because with Tyler Bowen, same
- 49:24way it took him a lot longer last year to adjust into the
- 49:28right schemes with the exception of the Marshall game.
- 49:31I think a couple of y'all pointed out there where we were
- 49:33in the right scheme and we went back to the wrong scheme.
- 49:36So the question is can they get back to where we were at least
- 49:42middle point last year on both sides of the ball Quick.
- 49:46That's my big concern. Sheldon, let me let me pitch to
- 49:48you next back to you for a second because obviously we all
- 49:54are always watching the offensive line.
- 49:56This is an offensive lineman podcast.
- 49:59If y'all don't know the Michael Yost who is constantly in there
- 50:03tonight. Michael Yost, long time
- 50:05listener, played offensive line. Ryan's an offensive lineman.
- 50:09Tally played on the line. So let's hear those grades top
- 50:13to bottom. Who was the best?
- 50:14Who was the worst? Yeah.
- 50:16So looking at the the PFF grades from from this past we can put
- 50:21up right now. So best lineman grade out was
- 50:23Chaplin, Xavier Chaplin, left tackle at 67, which is, you
- 50:27know, pretty solid. He was really good in pass
- 50:29protection. And so was Braylon Moore as
- 50:31well, also around at 67. And then you had some kind of in
- 50:36the middle Lake Gannon struggled in pass protection.
- 50:39And then at the bottom was obviously bargain Clemens like
- 50:4355 overall and 57 in in pass fucking.
- 50:46I think he gave up three pressures and obviously at least
- 50:49one sack that I could count. So you.
- 50:52Know kind of. He got that himself.
- 50:54Yeah, yeah, exactly. So, you know, kind of So what
- 50:57you're saying Curtis, about the the lack of vertical passing.
- 51:00I think it was twofold. Just to play devil's advocate
- 51:02here. I think, you know, first of all,
- 51:04in order to have downfield passing plays, it requires O
- 51:07line to block for a longer period of time.
- 51:09And you know also drones last year wasn't great in terms of
- 51:12downfield passing. So that probably played into a
- 51:14little bit. I just think the O line, it's
- 51:17always kind of risky, you know, asking guys to drop back and,
- 51:20you know, dissect the pocket for more than, you know, 2 1/2 three
- 51:24seconds. I think that was kind of, you
- 51:25know, probably explains from their play going decisions.
- 51:27But yeah, not great overall for the opposite line, especially in
- 51:30pass blocking. Yeah.
- 51:32And I mean, we ended up taking some shots in the second-half
- 51:34and most of those are kind of schemed up to get guys running
- 51:38free where Kyron could easily step up, make a throw in
- 51:42anticipation versus having to wait for somebody to come open
- 51:46late in the route. So, you know, kudos to Bowen for
- 51:50getting those calls in there because it definitely confused
- 51:53what the defense is trying to do there.
- 51:55When you have a guy running free like that, you know that you've
- 51:57done something from a scheme perspective to cause somebody to
- 52:01bust coverage or get a little confused out there.
- 52:03So those are some of the high points of the offense was seeing
- 52:07some of those deep ball schemes get get added in there.
- 52:11But outside of that, you know, looking at the offensive line,
- 52:17you know, in seeing Xavier Chaplin grayed out that well,
- 52:21despite having, you know, a couple a couple holding calls in
- 52:24there. I mean, that that's that's
- 52:25something encouraging that you can take away from this game
- 52:28knowing that, you know, he's he's rounding into a very solid
- 52:31left tackle over there on that side of the line of scrimmage.
- 52:35But we're still having this conversation, you know, three
- 52:37years later about Parker Clements at right tackle.
- 52:42And at some point, you know, you got to get to a point where you
- 52:46don't keep rolling the same thing out there and expecting
- 52:49different results. And he's a guy that he'll
- 52:56occasionally throw a good game out there, but he is
- 52:58consistently giving up key sacks in games where, you know, you
- 53:03can't afford to give up those sacks in those key situations.
- 53:07So I'm just trying to figure out I, I get, you know, in practice
- 53:12he might look the best, whatever.
- 53:14At some point you got to try something different and see, see
- 53:16what works, see what gels, see if you get some better, better
- 53:20outcomes. Because at this point, if he's
- 53:21going to, as a super senior out there giving up plays like that,
- 53:24I want to see what the young guys can do.
- 53:27Yeah, Tally. No, I agree.
- 53:31I mean, if you keep doing the same thing and expect a
- 53:34different result, you know, that's the definition of like it
- 53:40is what it is, right? I'm not the coach.
- 53:43I don't know what they see in practice.
- 53:45I don't know. But I know what I see in the
- 53:46game, you know? I know if we keep going out
- 53:50under the lights and we don't produce, we got to do something
- 53:53different. So, Cunningham, oh, boy, come
- 53:55on, Monte Tay, I need you to get your shit together, man.
- 54:00All I'm going to say, I need you to get it together.
- 54:04And this is where like this week, we need to get up big,
- 54:08right? Because what if it is that game
- 54:11film? Because y'all have all we've all
- 54:14mentioned it that there are some guys that we've heard they're
- 54:16not good in practice and then they go on the field and just
- 54:19like, Oh my God, like this guy can't stop.
- 54:21He's great. He he, he doesn't do everything
- 54:24perfect, but man, he's so much better in live when the rounds
- 54:27are live. So that's why it's like, can we
- 54:30get up 3-4 scores this week where maybe someone can go in at
- 54:35right tackle for a little while and if they play significantly
- 54:38better, it's like, that's a gamer.
- 54:41That's a gamer. Like, I don't care what he does
- 54:43in practice. You put him on the field, he's
- 54:45going to be 10 times better than the guy that does great in
- 54:48practice. Because if everybody watch Band
- 54:51of, everybody's seen Band of Brothers.
- 54:53Yeah. No, Brian, has you ever seen
- 54:55Band of Brothers You? Never seen that.
- 54:57David Swimmers character, right? David Swimmer's character.
- 55:00He is like as far as it doing the shit on base and everything
- 55:03perfect. He's the man.
- 55:05He gets in the shit, he loses it.
- 55:08And I think that's the way a few of our players are.
- 55:11They're great in practice. They get in the shit, they lose
- 55:13it so well. I'm going to say this.
- 55:16I'm I'm going to say this too. And I, I'm trying to give him a
- 55:20break, but I got to say it. Parker got hit with the same
- 55:23spin move in practice as he did in the game.
- 55:26He. Didn't.
- 55:27He can't handle swim, he cannot dance.
- 55:31You got to get he keeps getting hit with with spin moves.
- 55:36If he get hit with if I was going against him and I've seen
- 55:39his body of work, I'm hitting spin moves.
- 55:43Spinner Rooney, every time. Every time, because it throws
- 55:48him and I don't know, man, he ends up in the upside down every
- 55:52time you get it with a spin move, so somebody else got to
- 55:55step up. That's what I say. 100% So Sean
- 56:01anybody else that? For the.
- 56:04Overall piece, anybody else on the offensive side of the ball
- 56:06or defensive that just stood out to you is just not having a good
- 56:09day. Yeah, well, at least one that I
- 56:13know of Benji and he really grated poorly in pass blocking
- 56:18at 36. I mean, that's, that's pretty
- 56:20rough. And then, yeah, I know Aiden
- 56:23Green struck a little bit wide receiver too, but he's, you
- 56:26know, he's kind of coming along. So I, I just, I, I certainly
- 56:29expected more of Gosnell. I mean, he had that big drop as
- 56:32well. I know he caught a couple of
- 56:33balls, but that very critical drop on one of those drives and
- 56:37you just, you got to be able to block plain and simple.
- 56:39I mean, you know, he just he got out leveraged a couple times and
- 56:42you know that that contributed to a couple of a couple blowing
- 56:44up screen passes. So I don't know, I mean, you
- 56:46just there's, there's long, long season left lots to improve on.
- 56:50But that was pretty disappointing for me to see that
- 56:53the port blocking by the tight ends.
- 56:55All right, let's move on. And we we've we've already hit
- 56:58some of this. So I'm, I'm just going to say
- 57:00this what we were not prepared for, I was not prepared for the
- 57:04attack. And I know it wasn't exactly
- 57:07what they did in New Mexico State.
- 57:08They look crisp, though. Vanderbilt's offense looked like
- 57:12it was Game 5, not game one. Like seriously, like they look
- 57:16crisp. And I know Sheldon, you got some
- 57:18data on that. But again, watching it on TV,
- 57:21y'all watching, it's like, man, they got this thing down.
- 57:24Like they know what they're doing.
- 57:26And, and that irritates you because when you sit here and
- 57:29you feel we probably have better players throughout teams, why
- 57:35are they looking so crisp, which that goes back to coaching, that
- 57:38goes back to the cans to say what are we not doing right
- 57:41leading up to the beginning of the season?
- 57:45Yeah, that, that's interesting. I was going to say that the, the
- 57:48interesting point is that, you know, you, you say that the
- 57:51Christmas and, and they were crisp, but they also, they, we
- 57:55still had two botched exchanges on their end that the ball hit
- 57:59the turf and we just didn't get on it.
- 58:01So they still gave us some opportunity despite looking, you
- 58:05know, that more, you know, game three-game four level of
- 58:09Christmas compared to game one. And we definitely came out like
- 58:13it was game one. Go ahead, Sheldon.
- 58:17Yeah, 50% success rate for Vanderbilt, which is that's
- 58:22eight, that's like 88 percentile.
- 58:24I mean, that's, that's really, really good for them.
- 58:26So I mean, like, like Brian said, death by 1000 cuts, you
- 58:30know, they, they didn't have a time to explose the plays, but
- 58:33they just they kept the chains moving.
- 58:34They stay on schedule. And I know they just, they just
- 58:37wore the defense down. I think, I think their time
- 58:39possession was 34 minutes. So, you know, especially on a
- 58:42hot day like that, like that's not, it's not ideal.
- 58:47Big time. Anything on this one tally?
- 58:50No, man, I mean, it kind of exactly what how Shelton ended
- 58:53it. Man wore the defense down all of
- 58:58the time and possession was crazy.
- 59:01You know, the first, the first half was super crazy time and
- 59:06possession and it's, it's hot out, man.
- 59:08Like it was, it was, it was stifling.
- 59:12So I'm just glad that, you know, we did get some people hurt.
- 59:17You know, we do got some people that's injured and that's never
- 59:20good. But it it, it seemed like it was
- 59:23going to be a lot more just because of the the heat and how
- 59:25we were playing. 100% before I do what we can move better
- 59:29getting forward, I just want to know like what we went well, I I
- 59:32love seeing my my big one on what went well.
- 59:35I love seeing Alex Jennings catch up touchdown, especially
- 59:37what happened at the Purdue game.
- 59:39Now what I'm sad about is he probably didn't get the ball
- 59:42enough, but to me that went great.
- 59:44Anything else you know, you know, Sheldon, you kind of
- 59:47already hit you know, Tyron having a great you know, per PFF
- 59:50grades having a good game tally. You said it won't a good game,
- 59:53but I mean, if not for him, we probably don't storm back.
- 1:00:01And that's what I say, I guess what what went well was that him
- 1:00:04bouncing back. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:00:06Because I think Robbie said it earlier, as bad as you hate to
- 1:00:10lose, like the rearview is small for a reason.
- 1:00:14The rearview mirror is small for a reason.
- 1:00:15You want to be able to look forward and what he did coming
- 1:00:19back into the game and coming back into the second-half, I
- 1:00:22think I was sitting by one of our good friends, Greg, and he
- 1:00:25was like, I need Karen to be the first one out of the out of the
- 1:00:29tunnel coming out of halftime because 17 to three, it looked
- 1:00:32miserable, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:00:34We thought was going to get routed.
- 1:00:35So he was like, I need to see him be the first one out of he's
- 1:00:38got to lead this team to to do some stuff.
- 1:00:40And he did like he showed that he has those qualities.
- 1:00:44So that was at least good to see.
- 1:00:47And when I say he didn't have a good game, because I've we've
- 1:00:49seen him play, we've seen like his skill set, we know what he
- 1:00:53has and going 16 rushes for 19 yards, he's better than that.
- 1:00:58So that's what I mean by that. But I'm saying it was great to
- 1:01:01see him bounce back from the first half to the second-half,
- 1:01:04whether it's, you know, scheming different plays, being schemed
- 1:01:09in making the right reads like that.
- 1:01:10That was that was something that went well, was his bounce back.
- 1:01:16Yeah, and I think, you know, as as Sean pointed out, Benji
- 1:01:19didn't have a really good game blocking.
- 1:01:23I I liked what I saw in the in the passing game outside of the
- 1:01:26one drop. So, you know, there, there's
- 1:01:28some opportunity there. I'm hoping that the blocking
- 1:01:31gets cleaned up because we're going to need to have tight ends
- 1:01:34that can get to blocks and help us get to the second level of
- 1:01:37the defense on the edge there. So definitely going to need that
- 1:01:41going forward. But to tally's point drones
- 1:01:44back, coming back out there ready to go, ready to sling into
- 1:01:48the second-half and just Ollie Jennings looking like Ollie
- 1:01:52Jennings. I think that's really kind of
- 1:01:54the big the big thing there is that we saw him get behind a
- 1:01:57defense score a big touchdown. I I really wish we could get him
- 1:02:01some more targets in that game. Anything under 5 just kind of
- 1:02:05doesn't make sense to me. So got to get him more involved
- 1:02:09in the game plan, especially down the field.
- 1:02:11You know what else went well? What's that?
- 1:02:14Stephen Garzneil yeah, man, him coming off injury like and the
- 1:02:20crazy thing is, I mean, I know y'all watch a lot of film, y'all
- 1:02:24watching on TV. He was open a lot more times
- 1:02:26than he got the ball to, even on the play.
- 1:02:29And again, it would have been a long throw and it would have
- 1:02:31been a had to be a crazy throw. But he was by himself on the
- 1:02:34pass where we hit Benji for the long while, Karen hit Benji for
- 1:02:38the long pass. If he would have looked across
- 1:02:40the field on that play, Steven was wide open on that, you know,
- 1:02:44going back to his left. So he played a great game, man.
- 1:02:47Like he's just tough. I don't know if he's fast.
- 1:02:49I don't know what it is about him, but he know how to get
- 1:02:52open. That's what I do know.
- 1:02:54So that was that was great to see.
- 1:02:56And like I said, him coming off that injury, man, he he's worked
- 1:02:58hard to be back on that field. Because that, Sheldon, anybody
- 1:03:02else that you felt like went well?
- 1:03:06Well, the offense averaged over 7 yards per play, which is
- 1:03:09really, really good. I mean, I know as much as we
- 1:03:11criticize Bowen, statistically they came out pretty well.
- 1:03:14I also think defensively, I thought Peebles was pretty
- 1:03:17solid. Mostly the interior defensive
- 1:03:19line I thought played pretty well.
- 1:03:21I know, I know prize scheme is all about gap responsibility.
- 1:03:24So you're not going to see the D lineman, you know, be super
- 1:03:27aggressive as much as you know, some other schemes and just kind
- 1:03:29of hold up. But they they they did a pretty
- 1:03:31good job of, you know, kind of holding the line again.
- 1:03:33It was just that that kind of outside perimeter stuff and the
- 1:03:35the back, the back seven, if you will, struggle more so.
- 1:03:38But I thought I thought the D line played pretty well for the
- 1:03:40most part. All righty.
- 1:03:42All right. So try to keep this to one.
- 1:03:46Try to keep it to one. Other than everything, other
- 1:03:52than everything. Bryan's Chaplin right here.
- 1:03:54Other than everything, what's the one thing Shelton Moss you
- 1:03:57want to see us do better moving forward?
- 1:04:02Good question. I don't know just I would say be
- 1:04:09responsible for your assignments, especially
- 1:04:12defensively. Man know where you got to be in
- 1:04:14the field. Simple as that.
- 1:04:17Make your make the right reads. Be in your gaps.
- 1:04:20Play sound football. There you go.
- 1:04:21All right, Tally. Get to the quarterback.
- 1:04:28We got this line that we've talked about all offseason.
- 1:04:31Get to the quarterback. What do we have?
- 1:04:33We had two sacks. I think we had two.
- 1:04:36Let me get it up here. I got it.
- 1:04:37Hang on, I think we had two. Two and seven total tackles for
- 1:04:41loss. No, man.
- 1:04:42You got to get more. We got to get to the quarterback
- 1:04:44more than that. They at least needed four in
- 1:04:46that game. I mean, cause, but sometimes we
- 1:04:48was there and we let him out and sometimes we was, you know,
- 1:04:52losing containment. So we got to get to the
- 1:04:54quarterback because we got the players on our.
- 1:04:57Andre, I seen you post something earlier, man.
- 1:04:59You said we stink outside of wide receivers.
- 1:05:01That's a lie. I understand you're upset, but
- 1:05:03that's a lie. Like you said, no other players
- 1:05:05can play at other any other school.
- 1:05:06Pull it up here just so you read it.
- 1:05:09No, let's see what he said. So we think I saw the wide
- 1:05:12receiver. None of these players would hit
- 1:05:14the field at any other NCAA major program.
- 1:05:17And #44 that's a lot. People's was one of the highest
- 1:05:24transfers that was out. Like he had plenty of schools he
- 1:05:26could have went to. They had a bad game.
- 1:05:28You deserve to be mad. He had a solid game, not.
- 1:05:31Bad. I'm saying they had a bad game
- 1:05:33like we had a bad game, so you deserve to be mad.
- 1:05:37We should have won. We thought we should have won.
- 1:05:40We didn't, but that's not the truth.
- 1:05:43Wide receivers, I mean that good, but you got some other
- 1:05:45players that can play other places as well.
- 1:05:48Coaches and players got to do a better job of winning.
- 1:05:51I ain't trying to talk you off a ledge.
- 1:05:53Keep going off. But that's another game.
- 1:05:57That's another game on on Saturday.
- 1:05:58So let's let's see what happens Saturday.
- 1:06:02Brian Siegler. Let's start, especially as as
- 1:06:06coordinators, be as rigid as we were for a full half with with
- 1:06:12our schemes and our game plans. Because I feel like that was the
- 1:06:17biggest problem in that game is that we came in with a game
- 1:06:22plan. And I think we tried to hang on
- 1:06:24to it for probably about a series or two too long on both
- 1:06:29sides of the football. And all it would have taken was,
- 1:06:33you know, one more touchdown, one more stop on 3rd down there.
- 1:06:36There there was opportunities out there.
- 1:06:39If you're a little bit quicker getting off that, that scheme,
- 1:06:42that game plan that you came in with, do things a little bit
- 1:06:45different. You you probably don't put
- 1:06:47yourself in a situation where you got to come back and, and,
- 1:06:51and go into overtime against the Vanderbilt team.
- 1:06:54So be less rigid all. Right, Brian, before I give him
- 1:06:59out here, take a look at my message.
- 1:07:00Are you able to get that up in a few minutes here?
- 1:07:04What's that? The just check the message real
- 1:07:06quick. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:08Are you able to get that up? Because I do want to.
- 1:07:11I'd like to bring. That yeah, yeah, go ahead and
- 1:07:13you keep tracking. I'll get it up.
- 1:07:14All right for me, and I love what y'all say assignments, you
- 1:07:18know all everything y'all said to me.
- 1:07:21I think right now we also, and I've already I'm going to
- 1:07:24piggyback off this. You've got to give a chance to
- 1:07:28somebody who might not be proven in practice, get them in the
- 1:07:31game. And if they can do it, then you
- 1:07:34don't have to ever worry about practice because they're doing
- 1:07:37it where you actually need to do it.
- 1:07:38And sometimes that's a gamble, right?
- 1:07:40That's a that's a huge gamble because if somebody's not doing
- 1:07:43something in practice, like man, he he always screws this up it
- 1:07:47man, because if he fucks this up in a game and he gets Kyron
- 1:07:51blind side hit and I'm and I'm and I'm talking right tackle and
- 1:07:53Kyron gets hurt man that fucking kills us and I know Parker can
- 1:07:58stumble and bumble just give some of these other guys chances
- 1:08:03give some of those two deep guys chances, because I think in the
- 1:08:07long run it's going to pay off for confidence of this team and
- 1:08:10my other one and that y'all got one fucking play hard play mean
- 1:08:16don't go in there. This means nothing.
- 1:08:19This means nothing across your chest means nothing.
- 1:08:21Go out there and make it mean something because you did not do
- 1:08:24that Saturday until it was too late.
- 1:08:28All righty so real quick injury list.
- 1:08:29Just so if everybody's wondering Kyron was a full go to gate.
- 1:08:33By the way, shout out Kobe on this Kobe from 247 through these
- 1:08:37up. Kyron full go today to was out
- 1:08:40there getting work done. He's good to go.
- 1:08:42We do have two injuries tally. You are the first one that you
- 1:08:45you threw this in a text and said Will Johnson's hurt because
- 1:08:49you said you saw him get carted off on Saturday.
- 1:08:52Special teams play. Actually.
- 1:08:54That was the rock in the back that was not flagged on the punt
- 1:08:58that set up the game time touchdown.
- 1:09:02Right. All right, so that's that that
- 1:09:06stinks. And he and and and he was a core
- 1:09:084 as coach said. So he's basically playing all
- 1:09:10the special teams in some way. So now that that probably will
- 1:09:14give some young guy an opportunity to step up these
- 1:09:16upcoming weeks if he's out for a while.
- 1:09:19The second one, and I know Shelton, I know you saw it,
- 1:09:24Tally, Brian texted. It's like we didn't see Stroman
- 1:09:27parts of the second-half at all. It was announced Stroman is
- 1:09:30going to be out for a while. Coach said a few weeks.
- 1:09:36I don't know what a few means because we heard a few weeks
- 1:09:38with Ollie Jennings last year and we never saw him again.
- 1:09:41So we and we don't know what it is, right?
- 1:09:46We don't know exactly what it is with him.
- 1:09:50Now, I will say this, I was glad to hear Shelton, Jalen Jones
- 1:09:55good grades because he's going to have to step into that
- 1:09:57position. And you saw and it was on TV.
- 1:10:01Jalen made a couple plays coming downhill with some run plays.
- 1:10:05So hopefully it's clicked for him while Stroman's out.
- 1:10:10OK yo only an hour and 10 minutes?
- 1:10:13I thought it might be 90 minutes doing this.
- 1:10:15Hey. Look who's joined us, Mr.
- 1:10:18Drones. There he is.
- 1:10:20What's up, Kevin? Kevin, what's happening?
- 1:10:22By the way, Tally, Andrea just needed you to talk with him.
- 1:10:26This is Hey. Hey, tell Kevin I'm sorry I
- 1:10:29splashed that GNT on his on his arm coming off the bar because I
- 1:10:33was carrying four drinks. 4 drinks Brian. 4 drinks.
- 1:10:37Brian. Damn boy all.
- 1:10:38Right. And and as we before we turn
- 1:10:41over to know the enemy, some pics, some fun stuff, as much as
- 1:10:46Brian, go ahead and put it up there so we can kind of talk to
- 1:10:50it. As much as we love, as much as
- 1:10:52we vent and everything, you know, this is a game and it's OK
- 1:10:58to vent. Like tell us to get it off your
- 1:11:00chest, have fun. But there is things going on
- 1:11:02that if y'all did not know about Mike Villagranas, who was, I
- 1:11:07don't know his exact title, chief of staff, something within
- 1:11:11a big operations guy that came with for our first year, his
- 1:11:15daughter, She's like 6 years old.
- 1:11:17And you know for me that I got a 7 year old, not too much older
- 1:11:22than this little girl, She's been diagnosed with leukemia.
- 1:11:26So she is going to be going through an absolute fight.
- 1:11:29And they got to go fund me to definitely help Mike up.
- 1:11:32You know, you can see everybody doing it and it's and I and I
- 1:11:39wanted to do it because we've been, we said some dirty words,
- 1:11:43we said some bad things. We bust some guys.
- 1:11:47This is actual shit that really matters.
- 1:11:49OK, That's a family. That's a little girl, me, Brian,
- 1:11:53children, you're not there in life, but me, Brian, Tally all
- 1:11:56have children and a lot of y'all out there probably tonight.
- 1:12:01Obviously, you know Chris, Kevin, y'all's boys are on the
- 1:12:04teams. Some of y'all out there.
- 1:12:06We know y'all have kids as well. This means a lot.
- 1:12:08If if you can donate, if not, I understand if you can't, if if
- 1:12:14money's tight, but at least share this post.
- 1:12:17Get the word out there to help this family.
- 1:12:20And if y'all want to add anything boys, go right ahead.
- 1:12:26No, I'll just say that, you know, this is something that,
- 1:12:29you know, it's, it's bigger than football.
- 1:12:33You know, we, we get on here and we, we, we run our mouth a lot.
- 1:12:35And you know, I think we, we, we come at it from a perspective of
- 1:12:39we're, we're going to tell the truth, but we're also, you know,
- 1:12:42it's all love because we're, we're all Hokies.
- 1:12:44We're here because we love the game.
- 1:12:46And I couldn't imagine being in a situation where, you know, my
- 1:12:50child was in, in this, in this place and, and having to fight
- 1:12:53this battle. So hope everybody out there can
- 1:12:55do what they can. And if you can't do anything
- 1:12:57right now, be sure to share it around.
- 1:12:59So appreciate it. Yeah, definitely, man, praying
- 1:13:02for that family because that's no, it's got to be hard.
- 1:13:05So definitely just praying for them and keep them.
- 1:13:09I'm not trying to push anything on anybody, but hey, I believe
- 1:13:11in God. So I got to say I'm praying 100.
- 1:13:14Percent 100% Sheldon. Anything you want to add my
- 1:13:17friend? No, just yeah, just keep
- 1:13:21supporting. I know Mike is, he's really
- 1:13:24close, really close to coach Pride.
- 1:13:26They they go back a few years. So they have a great
- 1:13:27relationship and he's been super, super integral to to
- 1:13:31everything that goes on the program from from white here.
- 1:13:33So obviously even a great person, a big BT football guy.
- 1:13:36So anything we do support, help him out.
- 1:13:38Yep. And again, like I said y'all, if
- 1:13:41it's one of those things you can't throw the loot on there,
- 1:13:43share it. Get it out to your.
- 1:13:45We're in a we're in a society now where literally you can
- 1:13:48share something and it can hit thousands upon 10s of thousands
- 1:13:52of people. And it might be someone where
- 1:13:54maybe you can't stroke a few bucks to help it out.
- 1:13:56But it may be maybe your neighbor who sees this says, you
- 1:13:59know what, I can do this. I understand where it's coming
- 1:14:03from. So definitely a good cause.
- 1:14:05We'll definitely keep her in our thoughts and our prayers.
- 1:14:09And we have gotten to the middle.
- 1:14:11And again, we are brought to you by the Counts Family Pharmacy,
- 1:14:14Your neighbor friend, your neighbor, your friendly.
- 1:14:17Neighbor, neighbor your your. Friendly Neighborhood Pharmacy
- 1:14:22three O 1 S Main St. Blacksburg, VA.
- 1:14:25Also check Jeremy out at Blacksburg on the Rocks, his
- 1:14:28podcast. Brian joined him yesterday.
- 1:14:30I'm sure that was a fun time with Jeremy and Paul.
- 1:14:34Mr. Siegler. Oh yeah, that was a good time.
- 1:14:36That was a really good time. Yeah.
- 1:14:40Here I'm. I'm getting the link in there
- 1:14:42guys, don't worry. Yeah, we'll get the link into
- 1:14:43all the social medias for y'all Andretti.
- 1:14:47Good looking out man, good looking out for that.
- 1:14:49All right, so y'all we want, we want, we going to do a little
- 1:14:52speed version of this. But we got to get to know the
- 1:14:54enemy. We got to know Marshall, we got
- 1:14:56to make some picks. We got to talk about some lies
- 1:14:58we told last week. Well, I told the most.
- 1:15:02If you really gambling, follow Tally.
- 1:15:03But let's start with know the enemy, Brian.
- 1:15:05Let's start offensive side of the ball.
- 1:15:07Seth Doji, What? What's he going to be bringing
- 1:15:10to us and who are some of the players we need to be watching
- 1:15:13out for? Hey buddy, we got an air raid
- 1:15:15coming in, Are you ready? All right.
- 1:15:19Let's fucking do it. This is not your typical rate
- 1:15:22though. They're going to run the ball a
- 1:15:23little bit more. It's a very run heavy air raid.
- 1:15:27They're going to run with the the running backs.
- 1:15:29You're going to see the quarterbacks get involved again.
- 1:15:31So expect another, another game where we've got to have some
- 1:15:36assignment football as far as the quarterback is concerned
- 1:15:39and, and we might see about 3 quarterbacks rolled out there.
- 1:15:42So it's kind of a, it's kind of a wild situation, man.
- 1:15:47So you know, you got Braylon Braxton out there, Stone Earls,
- 1:15:51you know, these guys are going to they're, they're going to
- 1:15:55roll about two or three guys out there just like they did
- 1:15:57probably first week. And we're going to have to
- 1:16:00contain them from a rushing standpoint and make sure that we
- 1:16:02can try to get some pressure on them, even though they're going
- 1:16:05to get the ball out of their hands pretty quick.
- 1:16:08All right, Sheldon, I didn't know if you got a chance to.
- 1:16:11Shelton was diving in the stuff. I didn't know if you got a
- 1:16:14chance. Did you dive anything into
- 1:16:15Marshall? Not too much, I know they were
- 1:16:18ranked 84th in the latest SP Plus rankings or 81st I think
- 1:16:22one of the two, so slightly better than Vanderbilt.
- 1:16:26Not by much. Obviously Tech has the home
- 1:16:28field advantage so I'll give them a few.
- 1:16:29A few points on the spread and I saw it was 20 1/2 last time I
- 1:16:33checked, which seems pretty crazy but.
- 1:16:35You. You.
- 1:16:37Never. Know.
- 1:16:40Yeah. And that went up because it was
- 1:16:42at like 15 1/2, Yeah. It started, yeah, it started
- 1:16:44right, just over 2 touchdowns and it's, it's crept up almost a
- 1:16:47full touchdown since then. Yeah, I'm wondering what's going
- 1:16:50on. They know some stuff we don't
- 1:16:51know. Well, some came out the damn.
- 1:16:53I'll mention it in a few minutes.
- 1:16:55Brian. I did notice their two receivers
- 1:16:58pretty good. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:17:01So you got kind of a a mix and match there, right.
- 1:17:04So you got Christian Fitzpatrick.
- 1:17:07He's their matchup problem. He's their stick mover, he's
- 1:17:09their their red zone threat. He's a guy that can really cause
- 1:17:13problems for different guys on the defense.
- 1:17:15And then the other guy, Elijah Metcalf, he's really the
- 1:17:18explosive guy. He's the big play guy.
- 1:17:20He's the guy that can take the short 1 deep.
- 1:17:22He can beat you deep. He can do a little bit of
- 1:17:24everything. Alrighty, so obviously again
- 1:17:31y'all this week was a lot of know ourselves.
- 1:17:33We needed to figure out what the hell was going on with us.
- 1:17:36So Brian did not get a chance to jump in the film room as much.
- 1:17:39It was more of watching what we were doing.
- 1:17:41I'll say this, running back wise, Ethan Payne is listed as
- 1:17:44their number one running back, but a guy by the name of AJ
- 1:17:48Brand broke an 80 yarder last week.
- 1:17:50So keep an eye on both those guys.
- 1:17:53Again. I think The thing is when we
- 1:17:55played Marshall last year, they were more established.
- 1:17:57They had, they're basically bringing guys back, good
- 1:18:01rushers. The non quarterback this year,
- 1:18:04it's a little bit of the unknown.
- 1:18:05That's why they played three quarterbacks the first week,
- 1:18:07including Cole Pennington who's Chad Pennington's son who might
- 1:18:10see the field on Saturday as well.
- 1:18:12So it will be interesting to see what they can do.
- 1:18:14They were playing Stony Brook. I am not how sure how good Stony
- 1:18:19Brook was last year in FCS ball. They're bad.
- 1:18:23They're. Bad.
- 1:18:23They're very, very bad. Yeah.
- 1:18:25So. Even even less to draw upon
- 1:18:28other than they beat them by 4/6 touchdowns.
- 1:18:31Yeah, and I mean, a couple of other guys to watch are going to
- 1:18:34be their tight ends. You got Kate Conley and Toby
- 1:18:37Payne. They're both kind of that hybrid
- 1:18:39joker type tight ends. So they're going to get involved
- 1:18:41in the in the passing game as well.
- 1:18:44So they've got guys on offense that can make some plays.
- 1:18:48It's going to just be interesting to see how we match
- 1:18:51up. I definitely think they're going
- 1:18:53to sling the ball more than we saw against Vanderbilt, so that
- 1:18:59may play in our favor unless they're targeting Monsoor
- 1:19:01Delane, in which case it may not.
- 1:19:04Well, hey listen, one terrible game in 24 he the the boy man.
- 1:19:10She give him some grace. We're gonna give him give him
- 1:19:12some grace. But but let's see.
- 1:19:14Let's see. All right, flip on the defensive
- 1:19:18side of the ball, Jason Seymour's defensive coordinator,
- 1:19:21Brian, I'm not sure how much you saw what they ran.
- 1:19:24I want to focus on two of the edge players, Jabari Ishmael,
- 1:19:28and I want to focus on Mike Green for the and, and y'all
- 1:19:31know why? Y'all clearly know why we're
- 1:19:33discussing this. Oh, we know.
- 1:19:35We know why, yeah, but we've got to talk about them because
- 1:19:39likely we're going to see them a lot.
- 1:19:42Yeah. I mean it, you know, it's a 425
- 1:19:44system attacking system predicated on pressure and
- 1:19:47disruption, you know, not not too dissimilar to what we saw
- 1:19:52this past week. And and it is predicated on
- 1:19:55those big defensive ends that have been making some plays for
- 1:20:00them. I'd say defensive line just
- 1:20:01across the board is their best position group everywhere else
- 1:20:05is kind of. But defensive line, they are a
- 1:20:09as close to a, you know, a middling power five team as you
- 1:20:12can get for AG5 team. And I guess we'll say Power 4
- 1:20:16now because the PAC 12 does not fucking exist anymore.
- 1:20:19So yeah, you know, we look at Ishmael.
- 1:20:22I mean, he's kind of that that balance of power and speed kind
- 1:20:26of that more that big in look, but he is disruptive.
- 1:20:29But Mike Green is the guy that goes in there and just wrecked
- 1:20:32shot and he is quick, he is elusive.
- 1:20:35He's going to get Parker fit. So just look out for that guys.
- 1:20:39Not what I wanted to hear. Man, you going to make Tally
- 1:20:43start drinking and it's 10:00 now.
- 1:20:45And and if any of, like I said, because we might, you know, chip
- 1:20:48a little bit on that side that that's probably we're going to
- 1:20:51need to do to be able to get the ball downfield a little bit.
- 1:20:53I'm I'm hoping that that's what we do because I think we still
- 1:20:56need to attack this team through the air.
- 1:20:59I think we can run the ball. I think we need to show a
- 1:21:01commitment to running the ball, especially with Tooton, just
- 1:21:04based on the way this team is made-up.
- 1:21:08I think we can have some success in the running game, especially
- 1:21:10with with Kyron mixed in there. But we need to make sure that we
- 1:21:15are taking the shots, but that were calculated with how we take
- 1:21:19those shots. All right, anything Shelton
- 1:21:21tally y'all read on this team defensively read nothing I.
- 1:21:27Just hope they don't know how to spin move that's.
- 1:21:30It you know what? I hate to tell you something,
- 1:21:32Charlie. Mike Green knows.
- 1:21:34Hey Green, got a spin move in the bag.
- 1:21:36Mike Green got a spin move. I already know he do.
- 1:21:38He already got 1 1/2 sacks for this year, hey.
- 1:21:41Hey, if he didn't have one, he got one now.
- 1:21:43Hey, what? So Tally, you've been
- 1:21:46researching look Tally already know Mike Green sack totally you
- 1:21:48know he got. To I mean, when you rolling out
- 1:21:52the line, we rolling out, you at least got to know where to keep
- 1:21:55your eyes during the game. So yeah, I mean, every game is
- 1:21:58going to be the same. It's it's more about us than it
- 1:22:00is them. I mean, some teams, some things
- 1:22:05that we've seen is going to change.
- 1:22:06You know, every week is different, but we have to be the
- 1:22:10team that we're worried about every week.
- 1:22:11Like if we go out and do the stuff that we're supposed to do,
- 1:22:15we got a good chance of winning most of the games, same as we
- 1:22:18did at the beginning of the season.
- 1:22:20Like the season ain't over. Some people say, oh, I ain't
- 1:22:21going to watch. You know, nobody cares if that's
- 1:22:24you, I'm going to watch every week.
- 1:22:26I'm going to be mad or happy, whatever it's going to be every
- 1:22:29week. I'm going to call Chris.
- 1:22:31We're going to talk about it. I'm going to call Dwight.
- 1:22:33We're going to talk about it. We're going to put stuff in the
- 1:22:35group chat like it's going to be the same thing, man.
- 1:22:37What else do I got to do? We got multiple group chat.
- 1:22:40We got, we got the big pod, we got the coach.
- 1:22:42By the way, the one reason we looked a little bit more
- 1:22:45linebackers is Coach Robbie sent us about, I believe it was
- 1:22:50probably a full page paper on some of the linebacker shit.
- 1:22:53Yeah, you have to read that Tally.
- 1:22:55I I I was going to say Tally has got his keys.
- 1:22:58You you already just said it right there.
- 1:23:00We have to go be the team we need to be.
- 1:23:02I love Shelton. What is your key this week?
- 1:23:06I mean, kind of the same key responsibility, you know, gap
- 1:23:11responsibility, making the right reads, being in the alleys, you
- 1:23:14know, being aggressive. Like all that stuff is like I
- 1:23:17keep talking about the linebackers and safeties
- 1:23:19because, you know, it keeps it keeps becoming a problem.
- 1:23:21So now, so you're down, you're down, Strowman, next man up,
- 1:23:24Jill and Jones, your time is up. Your your time is coming, I
- 1:23:27should say. So hopefully we can step up and,
- 1:23:30you know, see some improvement from from Game 1.
- 1:23:32And I think, I think we will. Siegel.
- 1:23:36You know what, I want to see a team that is not afraid to go
- 1:23:42out there and assert themselves against this opponent because I
- 1:23:47feel like we were reacting a lot against Vanderbilt.
- 1:23:54We were reacting to what they were doing.
- 1:23:56We were reacting to how they were playing us, to what to what
- 1:23:59they were, which part of the field they were attacking.
- 1:24:02There was too much reaction and not enough dictating the terms
- 1:24:05of in the flow of the game. I want to see us come out there,
- 1:24:09start to finish, dictate the terms of the game to this
- 1:24:14Marshall team. I don't care if they score a few
- 1:24:16touchdowns or hit a big, couple big plays on it.
- 1:24:18I want to see us consistently look like we have an identity on
- 1:24:23both sides of the ball. All righty, on my turn, this is
- 1:24:30what I want to see and it's a little bit, I guess you can say
- 1:24:34both sides of the ball. Don't go in with A1 mindset of
- 1:24:38what you need to start doing at the beginning of a game.
- 1:24:41Don't do that. Like we we have to throw
- 1:24:43horizontal, we have to open it up this way.
- 1:24:45No, leave the playbooks open because we and I hate to and I
- 1:24:51like, I like being able to say this because I feel like we are
- 1:24:54a team that we don't have to say we need to do horizontal and
- 1:24:58inside zone to open everything else up.
- 1:25:00No, we don't. They want to load the box, throw
- 1:25:03it down field. They want to play coverage, hit
- 1:25:05the zone, hit the gap. Defensively, same way as much as
- 1:25:09we can shit on our linebackers, we do have some athletic guys
- 1:25:12who can keep up with guys as long as they like, Children
- 1:25:15said. They keep their responsibility
- 1:25:16and know where they're going. Don't be afraid to just open it
- 1:25:20up and say listen, I ain't putting you in a box.
- 1:25:23We're going to call it as they come to us.
- 1:25:25So similar to what you're saying, Brian, be asserted, but
- 1:25:29mine's coming from the playbook side.
- 1:25:30So talented. Somebody for it.
- 1:25:35I did RIP one about 6 minutes ago.
- 1:25:37I don't know if that was in the time frame I was only about 6
- 1:25:41minutes ago. I took care of 1.
- 1:25:43Brian, you need to look at the chat for tomorrow night real
- 1:25:45quick, just so you know what's coming as we make our hokey
- 1:25:49predictions for this week. And Tally, you're going to lead
- 1:25:53us off big guy. What are we going to be doing
- 1:25:56for the Hokies? What you.
- 1:25:58Got Oh my God, I got to start. You got us.
- 1:26:01If you don't want, I'll start. Can we start?
- 1:26:05I'm, I'm saying Hokies win, come back, we're going to be at home
- 1:26:09Hokies with a dub all. Right.
- 1:26:12He ain't giving, he ain't giving a score prediction.
- 1:26:14He's just claiming a. Victory.
- 1:26:15No, I can't. I can't.
- 1:26:17I don't think it's going to be, I don't think it's going to be
- 1:26:1920 points like that saying, but maybe a couple of touchdowns.
- 1:26:23But I'll say hokey Dove, I'll say that.
- 1:26:26Brian or Shelton, Excuse me. I'm going to go on a limb.
- 1:26:30I'm going to say Hokies by three tuddies all.
- 1:26:32Right. He's saying.
- 1:26:33I think they're. Going to come out really ticked
- 1:26:37off and motivated from last week.
- 1:26:38They're going to be hungry. All right, Brian.
- 1:26:43Not quite out there like like Sheldon, but a little more
- 1:26:48confident than Tally, I think. I think we're going to, it's
- 1:26:51going to be a solid 1517 point win.
- 1:26:55Nothing, nothing to write home about, but you feel a little bit
- 1:26:57better about it after what we saw last week.
- 1:27:00All we need to do is build some confidence and keep it moving.
- 1:27:03We got to remember probably the only thing that we lost out on
- 1:27:07from a big picture standpoint in Vanderbilt is the chances of us
- 1:27:11getting an at large bid in the ACC is is or in the 12 team
- 1:27:16playoff is gone. Everything else is still in play
- 1:27:20because conference titles matter now.
- 1:27:23Conference titles matter. So go the fuck out there, take
- 1:27:25your business, and let's go ahead and take care of Marshall
- 1:27:28first. Go one and oh, I know the joke
- 1:27:31was made, Marshall one and oh, and everybody's like, yeah,
- 1:27:34yeah, but you're actually like, all right, get it?
- 1:27:37We're going to want to know this week.
- 1:27:38So everybody want to complain about everything, right?
- 1:27:40Now so give me 3520. I do think the Hokies win.
- 1:27:48I don't think they quite cover. I think it's going to be like
- 1:27:504224. I think they're just
- 1:27:53undercovering because I think it's what Shelton, what you
- 1:27:57said. I think they're going to come
- 1:27:58out and play a little angry. I think they're going to be
- 1:28:01hitting people. I think they're going to take
- 1:28:02more risks early. So I think it's going to be a
- 1:28:06good game. It's 4:30 so it is a later
- 1:28:09afternoon game Where y'all we going to get to enjoy some of
- 1:28:15the early games and this week let's get the big screeners.
- 1:28:20Brian, guess what? You get to lead the way man.
- 1:28:24What's your game? I'm going with Arkansas at Oakie
- 1:28:30State baby. Old slack matchup.
- 1:28:33Yes, Sir, old Slack. Sir, so you guys all.
- 1:28:37Right. So that line there is 7 1/2 for
- 1:28:41Oakie State, I'm taking Arkansas.
- 1:28:44I think this is going to be a fucking grudge match.
- 1:28:46I think it's going to be a tight, tight game.
- 1:28:49I think that it's going to be about a touchdown victory.
- 1:28:52But having that hook was just a little too much for me.
- 1:28:56The hook was a little bit too much for you.
- 1:28:58All right, I'm on. I'm on Oklahoma State here at T
- 1:29:03Boone Picking Stadium. They get home field advantage.
- 1:29:05They are the better team. They've got the better players.
- 1:29:08Yes, I know Arkansas Jason was very upset last week because you
- 1:29:12know why He almost took the 49 1/2 or 56 in Arkansas versus
- 1:29:17Arkansas Flying Bluff. That was almost his game of the
- 1:29:19week and they won by like 63. But I think you're going to see
- 1:29:25it. They're going to be out talented
- 1:29:26this week. Okie State by about 10.
- 1:29:32What do you got? Yeah, I'm taking, I'm taking
- 1:29:34Okie State mostly on a hunch. I, I like the way that they took
- 1:29:38care of business against the two time branding FCS champions
- 1:29:41South Dakota State last week. So I think, I think it could be
- 1:29:44a good year for the for the folks.
- 1:29:47Caliban. I gotta say Arkansas.
- 1:29:51I think Arkansas is going to actually win this game outright,
- 1:29:56so if I was bidding I would put Arkansas money line on this one
- 1:29:59all. Right.
- 1:29:59I'm going to stop right here just so everybody knows where we
- 1:30:02stand. As of last week, Brian is a 33%,
- 1:30:07he got two games, right. Shelton and Miranda also a 33%,
- 1:30:13two games, right. Tally, 67% tally, got four of
- 1:30:18the six games right. Yeah.
- 1:30:22It is no longer fade. Sally, it's no longer no.
- 1:30:25Longer baby. It's fade, Curtis.
- 1:30:28Curtis, I've got one game right. I'm sitting at 16% winning
- 1:30:31percentage and we're keeping up with it.
- 1:30:35This week we have created something.
- 1:30:36Someone's keeping up. Hey, I got the A&M Notre Dame
- 1:30:39game right, At least so. We're going to, we're going to
- 1:30:42give a shout out here to the guy that's it's hokey uni edits.
- 1:30:49Hokie Jersey edits is is the the name on Twitter at Hokie Uni
- 1:30:55edits on, on X on Twitter. Go give that person a follow.
- 1:31:01But they, they set us up with with some tracking stuff.
- 1:31:04They're going to keep you up for us.
- 1:31:05So I want to give them a shout out and let them know we
- 1:31:08appreciate it. Go give them a follow.
- 1:31:12Nice, nice, nice, nice. All right.
- 1:31:14Who's Miranda got? Miranda has.
- 1:31:18State and our guitar Slinger Arkansas we we a split family
- 1:31:23here man it's. Going to be extra watch it now 3
- 1:31:25three baby all. Righty, I am next.
- 1:31:28I this is my game of the week. I don't know how it got to me.
- 1:31:31I think everybody else just didn't want to choose it.
- 1:31:34It's the big one of the week. It's Michigan, Texas.
- 1:31:37It's in the big house, Texas, a 7 1/2 point Rd. favorite.
- 1:31:43Big Rd. favorite. I think that might be fine
- 1:31:47because if y'all look how Michigan it was a struggle bus
- 1:31:50for them with as much talent as they have to close this gate,
- 1:31:54close the game out last week. Brian, who you got?
- 1:31:58Texas baby hook them it's going to be I think this could be 10
- 1:32:02and I take it so. Really 1010 and you take it?
- 1:32:10I wouldn't say 10. I think you close, but I I think
- 1:32:16Texas wins this too. I think Texas just too much
- 1:32:19firepower overall, Although the only thing that worries me is
- 1:32:23that inside Texas old Hokie commit Alex orgy.
- 1:32:28If they slow the game down, that could be what keeps effectively
- 1:32:35Michigan. Maybe for covering this.
- 1:32:37Sheldon, what you got? Yeah, I'm taking Texas.
- 1:32:40I think I didn't like how Michigan look last week.
- 1:32:42They need they need to pick 6 and even then they couldn't
- 1:32:45cover against Fresno. So Texas destroyed Colorado
- 1:32:47State last week. I really like Sark.
- 1:32:49I think he's going to keep the ball rolling.
- 1:32:51So give me Texas. Give me, give me Texas.
- 1:32:56You see what color they is? They got to win it all.
- 1:33:01Right. Miranda's got taking the home
- 1:33:04dog at Michigan and Jason's all the boys, everybody's on board.
- 1:33:11Everybody like all the boys are on board with Texas laying the
- 1:33:14points on the road. Tally Where are you going for
- 1:33:18your game this week? Actually, we got Sheldon up
- 1:33:20next. Oh Sheldon, my bad.
- 1:33:22Sheldon, where are you going for your game this week?
- 1:33:24Yes. So I took a little bit of a
- 1:33:26local 1 UVA Wake Forest. I think this this could be a big
- 1:33:30game for you VA if they win, they're starting two and O you
- 1:33:33feel like you got they they they would have them in them for the
- 1:33:35first time in the Tony Elliott era.
- 1:33:38So with that said, I am going to take the Wahoos regrettably, but
- 1:33:43I do think they're going to win this game and it could be a
- 1:33:46little bit of a a little bit of a boost for that program that's
- 1:33:48kind of seen some some hard times lately.
- 1:33:51About you, Ron. I'm riding with Wake, man.
- 1:33:56I, I, I'm not sold on UVA taking the next step.
- 1:34:00I think Wake has just enough with that home field advantage
- 1:34:04to be able to slow that game down a little bit and take some
- 1:34:06of the air out of that UVA passing attack.
- 1:34:10All right, I'm, I'm with you, Brian.
- 1:34:12UVA did have a little bit of a struggle versus Richmond and,
- 1:34:17and Claw. This is the UVA is the type of
- 1:34:20team Dave Clawson beats all the time.
- 1:34:23He he'll occasionally snag one from the big boy he's always
- 1:34:27going to be to UVA types. Lay the two points.
- 1:34:31Wait wins by 14. Damn, 14 OK, tell me what you
- 1:34:39got. I'm taking UVA, man.
- 1:34:41I think UVA kind of saying send, Mr. Sheldon said.
- 1:34:47You know, I think that they just want it, man.
- 1:34:50I think they want it this year and I ain't saying they're going
- 1:34:53to win a lot of games, but I think this they have a little
- 1:34:56bit of momentum going on, so I think they'll carry it into this
- 1:34:59game and I'm just not sold on weight.
- 1:35:02All righty. Miranda, Wake, Jason.
- 1:35:05Wake as well all. Righty, we got the middle two
- 1:35:08there with UVA. Interesting.
- 1:35:12What time is that game Saturday? Let me check.
- 1:35:16Just wondering, sorry, sorry to slow everybody down here.
- 1:35:25Show me the time. All right, so Bronze, 7:00 PM.
- 1:35:30All right, interesting. All right, Tally, this is yours.
- 1:35:33Right. Yeah, man, I got Kyle versus
- 1:35:36Auburn. I think that Auburn is going.
- 1:35:40I mean this is interesting to me just because Kyle is new to the
- 1:35:44to the ACC Apparently they have the best running back in the ACC
- 1:35:49is what a lot of people have said.
- 1:35:50Or one of the best running backs in the ACC.
- 1:35:53So I'm interested to see how they do against the FCCI.
- 1:35:57Would love to see Kyle go in and take this game, but I'm saying
- 1:36:01Auburn. I've got Kyle in this one.
- 1:36:06I think it's that 13. It's just a little too rich for
- 1:36:10me. I think with that rushing
- 1:36:12attack, much like the Wake situation, they're going to slow
- 1:36:15the game down a little bit against Auburn.
- 1:36:17I think that's going to allow them to.
- 1:36:19Kind of keep it. Close if if this is the been,
- 1:36:22you know, 1011 somewhere in that range, I might would have said
- 1:36:26Auburn, but I I think Auburn ends up winning the game, but
- 1:36:29Kyle keeps it close enough. Yeah, first of all, got a shout
- 1:36:32out. This guy right here, our good
- 1:36:34buddy Lavar always checking in with us.
- 1:36:36Good to hear from you tonight. Lavar usually jump on early.
- 1:36:41I'm kind of with Brian on this. I think 13's just way too much
- 1:36:44to lay, especially this early in the season.
- 1:36:48Not knowing the team's well enough.
- 1:36:49May be completely wrong, but 13's just too rich.
- 1:36:55Yeah, I'm on the same page. I'm taking Cal.
- 1:36:57I think this is a game where Auburn maybe doesn't take their
- 1:37:00opponent as seriously as they should.
- 1:37:02They come a little bit sluggish, but they're still going to win,
- 1:37:03but not cover. We know, Tally says Auburn.
- 1:37:08Miranda's on Cal, the guitar Slinger and the Alabama ringer.
- 1:37:14Jonathan Talley are both on Auburn.
- 1:37:16Later points they see him blow out coming.
- 1:37:19OK, let's move to the next one here.
- 1:37:22And this is our contributing writer, Miranda's Game of the
- 1:37:27Week. And if y'all have not checked
- 1:37:29out her piece from the Vandy game, appropriately titled
- 1:37:35Brian, what was the title again? I'm forgetting all sorts of shit
- 1:37:37tonight. You're forgetting everything,
- 1:37:40right? Hey, we got Vandy drops anchor
- 1:37:46on Hokies in overtime. Yeah, I've seen.
- 1:37:49That Vandy drops anchor. Check her piece out.
- 1:37:51Just some of her takes from watching the game.
- 1:37:53The one thing she didn't mention but she messaged us, she almost
- 1:37:56got kicked out of her parents house while watching the game.
- 1:37:58I got a feeling a lot screaming what's going on?
- 1:38:01So but check that out on the website boundarycornerbt.com for
- 1:38:08Iowa State. Iowa.
- 1:38:09First of all, I ain't going to say anything.
- 1:38:11Whatever the under is, take it. They ain't they ain't getting to
- 1:38:15whatever the odor is. LeBron, who you got?
- 1:38:19I'm riding with the Cyclones like usual.
- 1:38:25I don't think you can trust Iowa's offense.
- 1:38:28I think Iowa State's going to have just enough on that side of
- 1:38:31the ball. I think they pull off upset,
- 1:38:35pull off a very, very tight upset in this one.
- 1:38:38I think it could come down to a final drive, a field goal to
- 1:38:42take a win there. All righty, I'm exact opposite
- 1:38:47of you with this, even with 3 1/2 and even the way Iowa plays.
- 1:38:52Saw a little bit of a spark from the Iowa offense in the
- 1:38:54second-half of their game last week on the defense.
- 1:38:57She knows when we go to special team, you know, is going to be
- 1:38:59good with Kirk Ference. And just again, Iowa State's in
- 1:39:04that weird spot with Matt Campbell where it's like they
- 1:39:07have some really, really good years, obviously because they
- 1:39:10had a great quarterback in Brock Purdy.
- 1:39:13And then they come down. I feel like this is one of those
- 1:39:15down years where they're going to try to scramble to get in.
- 1:39:18And I think playing this game, which is at Iowa, it's at
- 1:39:23Kennick, it is a it is a 330 kick.
- 1:39:27They're going to wave to the kids at the hospital.
- 1:39:29Always something cool to see. It's going to start getting to
- 1:39:32our Iowa wins this game by a touchdown.
- 1:39:35Take the under. It's 35 and a half. 20 to 13 is
- 1:39:40a final. For those of you who are not
- 1:39:44soccer fans, the the match between Real Madrid and
- 1:39:47Barcelona is referred to as El Classico.
- 1:39:50This game and Internet culture is often referred to as El Asico
- 1:39:54because it is. It is ass football.
- 1:39:57That's what this game is. The over will not hit and it
- 1:40:05will take Iowa State to cover. Give me.
- 1:40:09And by the way, I wasn't bullshitting.
- 1:40:12The over under is 35 1/2. I'm not what me and Sheldon are
- 1:40:16not kidding about. This and under will hit.
- 1:40:19The under will hit. Still fucking hard.
- 1:40:21Tally who you got for the Africa.
- 1:40:24I got to go Iowa State. Give him some points.
- 1:40:29Hey, Miranda's riding with that too.
- 1:40:31Jason joins you, though. Jason joins you and I, Yeah.
- 1:40:37He like Kurt Ference. All right, what we got?
- 1:40:40All right, hey, we've gotten the music time, everybody.
- 1:40:44So Jason this week has selected the Tennessee NC State game.
- 1:40:51And here's a little bit of his guitar licks and
- 1:41:33strawberry. You're a.
- 1:41:39Head bone and. Gather Brandy, you're a high, so
- 1:41:50you're strong home. You'll love.
- 1:41:54Your home time. Welcome back to guitar licks and
- 1:42:03gambling picks. I'm Jason Long.
- 1:42:04Now, Speaking of being stoned, last week I was feeling Rocky
- 1:42:07Mountain High, and while Shidor Sanders and Travis Hunter
- 1:42:11clearly understood the assignment, Colorado's defense
- 1:42:14did not, and they gave up that old dreaded backdoor cover right
- 1:42:17at the end. So we're looking the right to
- 1:42:18ship this week when Tennessee travels to Raleigh to take on NC
- 1:42:22State. They've all started out as 4 1/2
- 1:42:24point favorites. I grabbed them at 6 1/2.
- 1:42:27Last I looked they're already up to 7 1/2.
- 1:42:30Honestly, I'd be willing to go much, much higher because I
- 1:42:32think Tennessee is going to flat out.
- 1:42:34Roll over the Wolfpack this week.
- 1:42:37And your. Whole ass.
- 1:43:20See you next week for another edition of guitar licks and
- 1:43:23gambling Picks. I'm Jason Long.
- 1:43:25Go volunteers. Go Titans, Go Hoagies.
- 1:43:33All righty. So we got Tennessee, NC State,
- 1:43:36We did catch this at 6 1/2. It's up to 8 now, by the way,
- 1:43:40it's up to 8. I think it's going to get to 9
- 1:43:42before Saturday to kick off Mason's obviously like in
- 1:43:46Tennessee, laying the points. Brian, who you rolling with?
- 1:43:49Balls, baby. Balls, baby.
- 1:43:50I I did not like what I saw from NC State on offense.
- 1:43:54I think it's going to be all balls.
- 1:43:56All righty, and I am right there with you.
- 1:44:01I do think Tennessee is going to roll.
- 1:44:04I do think this is, I think this has the potential to be like a
- 1:44:06fun, entertaining game because Tennessee still has not shown a
- 1:44:11lot on defense over the last few years.
- 1:44:14So give me Tennessee Shelton. Yeah, I'll take Tennessee, too.
- 1:44:19I didn't like the way NC State played last week against
- 1:44:22Western. I think they're due for a big
- 1:44:24stinker. And I love Josh Hypo.
- 1:44:25I think he's going to run roughshod over that defense.
- 1:44:27So taking the balls. You Got Talent.
- 1:44:32Yeah, shout out to Jason for the For the Titans bandana.
- 1:44:36So go Titans tighten up. I'm taking Tennessee as well.
- 1:44:42All righty, Miranda. Miranda switched it up.
- 1:44:45NC State, Fade, she says Fade Duvall.
- 1:44:50And obviously Jason is there with that.
- 1:44:53So let Brian pick up the big board here and see where all of
- 1:44:57our picks roll. So as you can see man, a couple
- 1:45:02of us are almost exactly alike. So there's our big screens.
- 1:45:05A lot of other good games this week too.
- 1:45:07Y'all interested to see Colorado, Nebraska on Saturday
- 1:45:11night, Boise, Oregon late, especially the way Boise played
- 1:45:14last weekend. Anything else caught y'all's eye
- 1:45:17other than eye game? Y'all going to probably try to
- 1:45:19sit down drink cold beverage with?
- 1:45:23I'm just glad football's back. Start to get in the man, start
- 1:45:27to get in the fall weather, you know, wake up in the morning,
- 1:45:29You got that little bit of Christmas in the air that you,
- 1:45:32you know about lunchtime. You need all the the air and fan
- 1:45:36and all of that on. But you're glad football's back,
- 1:45:39man. I'm going to enjoy it.
- 1:45:40I ain't going to let y'all steal my joy.
- 1:45:41I don't. Know.
- 1:45:43I think that's the big thing. Like, as as much as Nashville
- 1:45:47was a great time, I did not get a chance to watch a ton of
- 1:45:50college football last week outside of the three and a half
- 1:45:53hour stomach ache that was Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt.
- 1:45:56So I'm excited just to have that normal routine of being in there
- 1:46:00watching games. I've got TV here, TV here, TV
- 1:46:04here. It's going to be a beautiful
- 1:46:06thing. Sheldon.
- 1:46:11I'm interested to see Georgia Tech Syracuse.
- 1:46:13I'm I'm kind of buying the I'm I'm buying the the jackets so
- 1:46:17far. I mean, they're they're ranks in
- 1:46:18the AP poll top 25 for the first time in quite a while.
- 1:46:21I don't know the last time it's been been some time, but if they
- 1:46:24can win that one starting three and OI mean, it's a pretty good
- 1:46:27start. Might have to watch out for
- 1:46:28watch out for the jackets this year.
- 1:46:31All righty. Yeah, 100%.
- 1:46:33I mentioned that one also. Me and Brian tomorrow night.
- 1:46:36Brian, NFL Kickoff over here at the house.
- 1:46:40It looks like we're going to have about 14 lbs of meat
- 1:46:43between brisket, BBQ wings, venison BBQ.
- 1:46:47Shout out Ravi, shout out Mason. Couple of guys that hang with us
- 1:46:52here, we're going. The honest truth is one of our
- 1:46:55buddies, Amon said we all might just pass out in the basement
- 1:46:58after drinking, watching football and eating all that
- 1:47:00food tomorrow. Night you still get you still
- 1:47:01got the mattress down there. You still got the.
- 1:47:04Mattress down there anymore, but it is a comfy couch now to sleep
- 1:47:08on. Shelton.
- 1:47:09Hit us up if you want to come by and eat some food and watching
- 1:47:11football tomorrow night. I don't have any issues boys.
- 1:47:14Anything else breaking the last few minutes here?
- 1:47:18I don't know. I think we broke some hearts out
- 1:47:19there in the listening world the last two hours talking about
- 1:47:23that game, but I think other than that, I think we're good.
- 1:47:26Well, you got to unload it, let it out there, you guys.
- 1:47:29But like Tally says, if you want to talk shit, you can put Billy
- 1:47:33Bob 12345, put your face on it. Face on that, man.
- 1:47:37Yeah, put your face on it. Stand on it.
- 1:47:39Stand on business. They ask, go look at all four of
- 1:47:41our accounts. You see our faces.
- 1:47:44You know who we are. If you walk to us at a Virginia
- 1:47:46Tech game, Nashville down the street, y'all know who we are.
- 1:47:50And that does wrap up this episode of the Boundary Corner
