- 0:13Speaker 1: And everything Nebraska sports. Welcome to the Return to Glory Podcast.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Welcome to the Return to Glory Podcast. I'm traditionally your
- 0:29Speaker 2: co host Austin Rose. Join in me today Hunter Zarbiniki.
- 0:35Speaker 3: And today.
- 0:38Speaker 2: No Dak.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Thank goodness, we're talking Nebraska volleyball.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Can only imagine what kind of atrocity that would be
- 0:45Speaker 2: with Dak trying to talk volleyball. We're talking twenty twenty
- 0:48Speaker 2: six sees in preview. We're gonna do my beast of
- 0:52Speaker 2: the I definitely watch it the most.
- 0:54Speaker 3: I'm the most invested and most interested, and that.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Means said I was a Lincoln were to the volleyball
- 0:59Speaker 2: game and did start watching it until after I graduated.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Launch was the only thing on TV that I watched.
- 1:06Speaker 2: So we're gonna go over what iations are, kind of
- 1:10Speaker 2: what the layout is, you know, recap kind of what
- 1:15Speaker 2: happened last year, and you know, spoiler alerts. It's looking
- 1:21Speaker 2: pretty good for this year too. For those of you
- 1:24Speaker 2: who don't remember how last year went, we went thirty
- 1:27Speaker 2: three and one on the year, did not win, lost
- 1:31Speaker 2: in the Elite Eight against Texas A and M, who
- 1:35Speaker 2: ended up ultimately going on to win.
- 1:39Speaker 3: They just and that they were just so physical.
- 1:43Speaker 2: And fast, and we just we got caught. We lost
- 1:51Speaker 2: to what seemed to be looking to be one of
- 1:54Speaker 2: the better seasons than volleyball pak to volleyball history. Obviously
- 1:59Speaker 2: penstint because six twenty seven, whatever those years were where
- 2:03Speaker 2: they went undefeated for like three years in a row.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Obviously it's a good big plane there. But there was
- 2:09Speaker 2: a stretch last year where I don't even remember how
- 2:11Speaker 2: many games in a row we didn't even lose a set.
- 2:14Speaker 3: It was. It was a crazy number.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I kind of I forgot about that. Actually none said
- 2:22Speaker 1: it a lot of sets we won.
- 2:25Speaker 3: It was.
- 2:25Speaker 2: It was basically since it was like big ten play,
- 2:28Speaker 2: we didn't lose a set until we were on the
- 2:31Speaker 2: road against I don't even remember like U U S
- 2:34Speaker 2: C or something U C l A like U C
- 2:36Speaker 2: l A late late in the year.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Austome.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I do gotta say, I it's not the Ali. I
- 2:45Speaker 1: love your sweatshirt.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Thank you runs a baby.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Just uh.
- 2:53Speaker 3: I think they saw him on the robsite. Great Christmas present.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I did you have the runs of flavored ice cream
- 3:03Speaker 2: when they I have some of my freezer. So next
- 3:06Speaker 2: time you're in town, I'm saving some. I'm gonna say
- 3:12Speaker 2: they nailed it. It's a bit abrasive and you eat
- 3:15Speaker 2: it because you're like, this doesn't taste like ice cream,
- 3:17Speaker 2: but boy does it taste like a Runs of ice like?
- 3:21Speaker 1: Interesting if you're like.
- 3:22Speaker 2: What does Runs of ice cream taste like? Think about
- 3:24Speaker 2: what ice cream would taste like and literally put Runs
- 3:27Speaker 2: in it. They freaking nailed it. But yeah, So last
- 3:33Speaker 2: year was great year. First year under Danny Bustpoom Kelly
- 3:40Speaker 2: and return home after the I would say, relatively surprised
- 3:44Speaker 2: retirement of John Cook and we all kind of knew
- 3:46Speaker 2: it was coming, but it was such a weird, weird
- 3:50Speaker 2: transition per se. But she comes in, doesn't bring any
- 3:55Speaker 2: of her staff from a really basically just one for
- 3:59Speaker 2: one train for John Cook.
- 4:03Speaker 3: And it works barely. Part of that helps when you
- 4:08Speaker 3: have one.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Of the most talented rosters in the country, which spoiler alert,
- 4:13Speaker 2: we still have. We lost two players, basically two major
- 4:16Speaker 2: rotational players.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Taylor Taylor l Taylor L Love was her Taylor not one.
- 4:29Speaker 1: I mean, I can picture her, but.
- 4:30Speaker 3: I give picture too. Taylor Landfair, there we go, and
- 4:38Speaker 3: then Rebecca Alec.
- 4:40Speaker 2: We're really are two big contributors who graduated last year.
- 4:43Speaker 2: There were you know, Mazy Boy Zigler and Ali Check
- 4:48Speaker 2: also graduated, but they were not heavy rotational players. They
- 4:54Speaker 2: got in a couple of games, but back then Taylor
- 4:58Speaker 2: were starters, and so you know, they left because of
- 5:04Speaker 2: their eligibility. I'm not honestly one hundred percent sure if
- 5:08Speaker 2: a five year rule, if they actually could have stayed.
- 5:11Speaker 3: I don't think so for Taylor, but maybe for Becca.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Anyways, they're gone, and in the world of transfer portal,
- 5:21Speaker 2: you're thinking, you know, another nice little roster bump and
- 5:24Speaker 2: roster clip. Nope, second year in a row for Nebraska,
- 5:28Speaker 2: no one transferred out and we had no one transfer in.
- 5:32Speaker 2: So it's not to be unexpected obviously a smaller roster size.
- 5:38Speaker 2: And we've had the number one recruiting class I don't know,
- 5:41Speaker 2: three years in a row. One of those years was
- 5:44Speaker 2: like arguably one of the best recruiting classes ever where
- 5:46Speaker 2: we had.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Correct me if I'm wrong or if you remember, but.
- 5:52Speaker 2: It was like we had the number one, number two,
- 5:54Speaker 2: number three, number four, number six player in the class.
- 5:58Speaker 4: There was something crazy I remember the year that it
- 6:01Speaker 4: was one, two, three, seven ten.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Maybe that's what I'm thinking that, Yeah, and that was
- 6:07Speaker 2: a couple of years ago. So I think, you know,
- 6:10Speaker 2: we're just at the point where.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Our talent.
- 6:15Speaker 2: We could look elsewhere to get people who are looking
- 6:17Speaker 2: to shift, but I don't want. I don't think people
- 6:19Speaker 2: are looking to come here because they're not going to play,
- 6:21Speaker 2: because we just have we have young talent. And I
- 6:26Speaker 2: would say.
- 6:27Speaker 4: Is a portal like, obviously it's a thing, But is
- 6:30Speaker 4: it as active in volleyball as it is for basketball
- 6:33Speaker 4: and football?
- 6:35Speaker 3: I would not say as much. Well, no, I wouldn't
- 6:39Speaker 3: say as much.
- 6:40Speaker 2: For basketball as much as basketball football. It's tougher to
- 6:43Speaker 2: compare because the roster sizes are so different. But I
- 6:50Speaker 2: do think part of that's already because the talent is
- 6:57Speaker 2: not condensed. But you know, you're you're twenty five teams.
- 7:02Speaker 2: It's a lot more that I would say the the
- 7:07Speaker 2: the landscape's more stable than basketball anyways. You know, there's
- 7:10Speaker 2: less coaches, get longer runs. You know, there's not as
- 7:14Speaker 2: much a coach here for one year. I'm moving here
- 7:16Speaker 2: for another year because schools just don't care as much
- 7:20Speaker 2: about volleyball so there's less money in it too, whereas basketball,
- 7:23Speaker 2: you know, you're getting big fat checks thrown around.
- 7:26Speaker 3: That's my theory. I don't know that for sure.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Obviously, I will say that the popularity of volleyball and
- 7:32Speaker 2: sports in general, and I l I mean, it has
- 7:36Speaker 2: impacted volleyball.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Just look at the last couple of years of viewership.
- 7:40Speaker 3: I mean, it's kind of been crazy. But we were
- 7:46Speaker 3: I think we're the only you know, like.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Power five volleyball school to have no transfers in or
- 7:51Speaker 2: out for two years in a row, which is crazy
- 7:55Speaker 2: because we could I mean call it arrogance, but I
- 7:59Speaker 2: do think, you know, if we wanted to get someone,
- 8:02Speaker 2: you know, I think there's but enough money behind volleyball Nebraska,
- 8:06Speaker 2: and I think there's enough of a you know, prestige
- 8:08Speaker 2: with the brand that you know, volleyball players want to
- 8:11Speaker 2: play here, so we could go out and get people
- 8:14Speaker 2: if we wanted them, But we have decided that we
- 8:17Speaker 2: don't want them. So yeah, that's kind of where what
- 8:23Speaker 2: the off season was, where we're at from last year,
- 8:27Speaker 2: Like I said, we really lost two starters and they
- 8:30Speaker 2: were you know, Becca and Taylor were very important.
- 8:35Speaker 3: But towards the end of last year.
- 8:38Speaker 2: You can kind of see that, you know, because Becca
- 8:42Speaker 2: was a mid blocker and Manaya who betcha.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Who's who we're going to talk about in a little bit.
- 8:48Speaker 3: She was kind of starting to play a little bit
- 8:50Speaker 3: last year.
- 8:50Speaker 2: We were running to the point where it's like, man,
- 8:52Speaker 2: we can't have three blockers on the court, but we
- 8:55Speaker 2: have three people who should be on the court, And
- 8:57Speaker 2: so we kind of played around a little bit last
- 8:59Speaker 2: year effecta gone, I do. I do still think we
- 9:02Speaker 2: have three good blockers, but it's it's it's a hole
- 9:08Speaker 2: that week of build because we're that we're that good
- 9:12Speaker 2: returning players, key returning players. I could say we have
- 9:16Speaker 2: four seniors, three of which who were semi finalists for
- 9:19Speaker 2: Volleyball Player of the Year last year, Berg and Riley
- 9:23Speaker 2: who won, Harper, Murray, Andy Jackson, Lady Chobuer. Four seniors
- 9:28Speaker 2: Junior Skuyler, Pierce, Olivia Match, Terry Siegler, Terry lie Back,
- 9:34Speaker 2: Ryan Hunter, Campbell, Flynn, Kennon, Cogo, Virginia, Virginia Adriano, and
- 9:42Speaker 2: I bet she kind of that's you know, for the
- 9:45Speaker 2: most part of the people the names you heard, you know,
- 9:47Speaker 2: you know, Virginia, she had she kind of had a
- 9:49Speaker 2: slow start last year. She was the freshman from Italy.
- 9:52Speaker 2: By the end of the year she was getting a
- 9:54Speaker 2: lot of playing time. She looked really good in the
- 9:57Speaker 2: Red and White scrimmage. But I don't know, I don't
- 10:00Speaker 2: know which to take away from the Rando White Scrimmage.
- 10:02Speaker 2: And I should say, look, I listened to it on
- 10:04Speaker 2: the radio and they currently don't have Pick ten. I
- 10:09Speaker 2: don't have TV right now because YouTube TV is too
- 10:11Speaker 2: expensive to keep during during the off season.
- 10:14Speaker 3: If I'm gonna be honest, Yeah, they.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Keep raising their prices. I guess I guess might as well.
- 10:22Speaker 4: It's probably the most popular streaming platform right now.
- 10:26Speaker 5: So and your booked A love that first it was
- 10:32Speaker 5: twenty five dollars a month. You know, Okay, I'm really
- 10:41Speaker 5: doing Fox one attempt Master game and if it's ondio
- 10:47Speaker 5: to go to a bar.
- 10:50Speaker 2: H. But like I said, we all players and.
- 10:59Speaker 3: More time for I know what we're gonna do with
- 11:07Speaker 3: our friends.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Typically, really freshmen get in and play just we be talented,
- 11:15Speaker 2: so they are, like you know, three of the top
- 11:18Speaker 2: ten recruits in the nation probably get in a little
- 11:23Speaker 2: bit in some of those games where maybe maybe some
- 11:25Speaker 2: will get home have like the flu.
- 11:27Speaker 3: And we'll be up big.
- 11:30Speaker 2: And then but.
- 11:34Speaker 6: For the most part, it's gonna be our four seniors
- 11:40Speaker 6: and then I am Virginia are gonna be the six
- 11:43Speaker 6: spaces you probably see the most.
- 11:49Speaker 3: And they were really like, they're really freaking good.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Like I said, we went thirty three and oh last
- 11:54Speaker 2: year before running into just just the counter that after
- 12:00Speaker 2: a lot.
- 12:01Speaker 3: I remember Texas A and M won the sweet sixteen match.
- 12:05Speaker 2: I was like, this is this team is not the
- 12:06Speaker 2: team like they were just big and fast and for
- 12:12Speaker 2: what we could have been them obviously be lost in
- 12:16Speaker 2: five and they want the whole thing, and it makes
- 12:19Speaker 2: me sick, especially with the whole trev Alberts of it all.
- 12:22Speaker 2: I'm clearly over it. But I think we're we can
- 12:30Speaker 2: beat anyone in the country and so and we know
- 12:34Speaker 2: that they know that the senior class is really freaking
- 12:39Speaker 2: good and they haven't won a championship, which is surprising.
- 12:42Speaker 2: You know, Andy Jackson, Harper, Murray Burke and Riley are
- 12:44Speaker 2: just three killers. And so the expectation this year is
- 12:52Speaker 2: national championship. I'm not gonna say bust because people of
- 12:57Speaker 2: much more patience with volleyball, just because I guess I
- 13:03Speaker 2: have no idea why, but.
- 13:06Speaker 3: The expectation is championship. I'm assuming you would agree with that. Yeah.
- 13:10Speaker 4: I actually pulled the odds up and we are plus
- 13:13Speaker 4: two hundred to win the national title, which means you
- 13:16Speaker 4: put ten bucks down, you're winning twenty.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's not very much.
- 13:21Speaker 4: And I think we're minus it was minus two sixty
- 13:24Speaker 4: to make the final four, which is which is I
- 13:27Speaker 4: mean putting twenty bucks down, you're winning like ten so
- 13:33Speaker 4: or ten bucks, you're winning like five bucks, So it's
- 13:36Speaker 4: it's yeah, I mean we're we're definitely the hav A
- 13:38Speaker 4: favorite to win win it all this year again with
- 13:41Speaker 4: everything that you said and.
- 13:42Speaker 1: The people that we returned, not value or I'm putting
- 13:46Speaker 1: my money.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Up, but no, that is a yeah, that's rough final four.
- 13:56Speaker 3: This year's in San.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Antonio, so not an easy drive and like last year unfortunately, uh.
- 14:07Speaker 3: Yeah, preseason number one.
- 14:12Speaker 2: I mean, you listen to any interview with the ladies
- 14:16Speaker 2: and it's you know, hey, we're not we're not going
- 14:20Speaker 2: to be hung up on last year, but we know
- 14:24Speaker 2: that the pressure is there and you know, we're talented
- 14:27Speaker 2: group and we we should win like it would be
- 14:33Speaker 2: so disappointed for this group to make it through four years,
- 14:38Speaker 2: which again I don't know what the five year thing
- 14:41Speaker 2: is gonna do, Like can all four because I think
- 14:44Speaker 2: all four of these our four seniors also started as
- 14:48Speaker 2: freshman or got playing type of like, but there's five
- 14:52Speaker 2: years of eligibility, So it's like, did I stick around
- 14:54Speaker 2: another because like my gut says, they're making more money
- 14:57Speaker 2: playing than Nebraska than they're going to make as a
- 14:59Speaker 2: pro volleyball player.
- 15:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know what that comparison is. What I
- 15:05Speaker 4: think you hear the line, pressure is a privilege a lot,
- 15:08Speaker 4: and when it comes down to a team like this,
- 15:11Speaker 4: like you said, has so much talent, there's many ways
- 15:16Speaker 4: to go about it. As a coach and a program.
- 15:18Speaker 4: You can you can own it and or you can
- 15:21Speaker 4: make it the elephant in the room and try not
- 15:22Speaker 4: talk about it. I mean, I think there's several approaches
- 15:26Speaker 4: how to go about that. And like you said, I
- 15:28Speaker 4: think this is obviously a very talented group that that
- 15:32Speaker 4: have been favorites to win it in several years, hasn't
- 15:34Speaker 4: hasn't done it yet.
- 15:35Speaker 2: So nope, I agree, And so yeah, we're entering your
- 15:41Speaker 2: two Danny Kelly's approach, which is shockingly similar to John Cook.
- 15:46Speaker 2: If you believe it or not, I would say, you know,
- 15:48Speaker 2: her difference is she probably has a little bit more
- 15:50Speaker 2: of an aggressive, my incid on offense, where speed and
- 15:54Speaker 2: power is a little more important than maybe John had emphasized.
- 15:59Speaker 3: And then but I'm not it's not rocket science. You
- 16:03Speaker 3: know what.
- 16:04Speaker 2: We want to be fast, and we want to we
- 16:05Speaker 2: want to be efficient. We led the nation with hitting
- 16:09Speaker 2: percentage last year. I suspect we'll be up there and
- 16:11Speaker 2: towards the top again this year. We're gonna have fast tempo.
- 16:13Speaker 3: We have.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Great middles, so I expect, you know, Andy Jackson and
- 16:20Speaker 2: Mania to have another great, great season offensively in the
- 16:23Speaker 2: middle outside hittering, you know, Harper is still there. I
- 16:26Speaker 2: think we're gonna be fine. And then Bergen setting the
- 16:29Speaker 2: setting the scene for everyone is great. Like I said,
- 16:38Speaker 2: it's it's it's basically what John Cook has been running
- 16:41Speaker 2: for the last twenty years, but just just slimp sight
- 16:43Speaker 2: tweaks with a little more ice on the speed and
- 16:46Speaker 2: you're still trying to be super efficient. I think we're
- 16:49Speaker 2: going to succeed in all of that. I suspect we're
- 16:51Speaker 2: gonna have a pretty good year. Looking at the schedule
- 16:55Speaker 2: this year not quite as ferent motive as some of
- 16:59Speaker 2: our others schedules in the past.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Some unique.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Obviously, we have the game at Wrigley Field this year,
- 17:04Speaker 2: we have the tournament at a T Mobile Arena in
- 17:09Speaker 2: Las Vegas. Toll play number two Texas. So that's definitely
- 17:14Speaker 2: our toughest challenge of the year is Texas.
- 17:15Speaker 3: And then that'll be.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Oh and we played at at and T Stadium. Forgot
- 17:20Speaker 2: to mention that. So I mean our toughest, not our
- 17:24Speaker 2: toughest games, but we have some some tough neutral site games.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Not that that really impacts Nebraska volleyball fans too much,
- 17:31Speaker 2: but and we've done that in the past, but it's
- 17:36Speaker 2: it's just good that.
- 17:37Speaker 3: That's we're there.
- 17:39Speaker 2: We're at that point in the program where you know,
- 17:42Speaker 2: we don't have cupcakes for a non con It's no
- 17:45Speaker 2: we're playing the number two team in the country. We're
- 17:47Speaker 2: playing number seventeen Florida. We're playing the expectation is we
- 17:51Speaker 2: want to be playing real teams right off the bat,
- 17:56Speaker 2: and obviously it's a little bit different. You know, we
- 17:59Speaker 2: can these games, it's not they won't sink our season.
- 18:02Speaker 2: By any means, the.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Game that I'm most excited for is the Creating Game
- 18:08Speaker 1: at home.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Creating Game at home.
- 18:10Speaker 4: The hour before is the John Rothstein, I know, the
- 18:13Speaker 4: Happy hour, five happy hours.
- 18:15Speaker 1: So that's why I know.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Did you sign up for the Volleyball Lottery regular season
- 18:22Speaker 2: ticket lottery?
- 18:23Speaker 1: I did not know.
- 18:25Speaker 2: I need to check my emails, so they're gonna last
- 18:27Speaker 2: that yesterday everyone, But you can buy two tickets to
- 18:30Speaker 2: a regular season game.
- 18:31Speaker 3: I don't know if that includes the Creating Game.
- 18:33Speaker 2: But but yeah, like I said, we play number two
- 18:37Speaker 2: Texas and neutral site.
- 18:38Speaker 3: We play Missouri at regular field outdoors.
- 18:43Speaker 2: We're playing number seventeen Florida, and I don't and I
- 18:47Speaker 2: don't think that's a tournament at at and T Stadium,
- 18:50Speaker 2: so I think we only play them but.
- 18:55Speaker 3: At Jerry's World.
- 18:56Speaker 2: So I mean those are big, big venue is in
- 19:00Speaker 2: a lot of bodies, so I think those are good.
- 19:02Speaker 2: And like I said, Number thirteen creating at home, we
- 19:07Speaker 2: play North Carolina at home, and then they're number nineteen
- 19:12Speaker 2: and then you enter Big Ten play, which obviously the
- 19:14Speaker 2: Big Ten is always.
- 19:18Speaker 3: A really good volleyball conference.
- 19:20Speaker 2: I would say our toughest stretch we play at pen
- 19:23Speaker 2: number ten Penn State, and then we play at Maryland,
- 19:26Speaker 2: and then we play at number sixteen Indiana, and then
- 19:28Speaker 2: we come home and play number six Wisconsin. That's a
- 19:31Speaker 2: pretty tough four game stretch where you have four road games,
- 19:35Speaker 2: two on the East Coast, and then come home and
- 19:38Speaker 2: play you know, i'd say, our biggest rival. And then
- 19:43Speaker 2: outside of that, you know, we play Oregon, who's preseason
- 19:46Speaker 2: ranked in Minnesota. And then the difference this year is
- 19:50Speaker 2: so our Big Ten schedule is actually a little bit
- 19:52Speaker 2: shorter than typical because this is the first year we're
- 19:54Speaker 2: doing a Big Ten tournament, which I was thinking about
- 19:57Speaker 2: last night.
- 19:59Speaker 3: I just don't.
- 20:01Speaker 2: I've never really thought of it that much in respect
- 20:04Speaker 2: for basketball, but it I feel like the Big Ten
- 20:07Speaker 2: tournament should be a regular season.
- 20:08Speaker 3: I don't know if I need a tournament. Same with
- 20:10Speaker 3: same for basketball. I don't. I'm not rewarding the regular
- 20:13Speaker 3: season at all.
- 20:14Speaker 2: I mean, obviously there's the double buys, but I don't
- 20:19Speaker 2: know that the the n c A.
- 20:21Speaker 4: Tournament right for basketball when your conference you get in.
- 20:24Speaker 4: Is it similar for volleyball?
- 20:27Speaker 3: Uh, honestly, I don't know. I didn't look.
- 20:31Speaker 4: I don't really is maybe like like, if you win.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Your conference, I think you are in because I think
- 20:38Speaker 2: that's how you Uno got in whatever how many years
- 20:42Speaker 2: ago when Uno and Creating and Abrasketball got in. I
- 20:46Speaker 2: believe that's the case. So Big Ten tournament wraps up
- 20:54Speaker 2: right before Thanksgiving, and I suspect us to do pretty
- 21:01Speaker 2: well in the Big Ten. I said, I know number
- 21:05Speaker 2: nine Peru. We had a couple of top ten matchups.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Obviously this the rankings will shift as the year goes on.
- 21:13Speaker 2: We you know, good chance we lose Texas. But last year,
- 21:18Speaker 2: I don't know if you remember how last year kicked off.
- 21:20Speaker 2: We played like it was like number two, number six,
- 21:23Speaker 2: and number ten. Three games in a row. We killed
- 21:27Speaker 2: them all. We slaughtered on my animals.
- 21:33Speaker 3: So it's one of those things.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Where I'm we're not Alabama level because we haven't won it.
- 21:40Speaker 3: You know, we're not.
- 21:42Speaker 2: We're not taking home the ring every year, but gosh,
- 21:45Speaker 2: we're freaking dominant. We just haven't gotten it done in
- 21:49Speaker 2: the championship or semi finals. And this has gotta be
- 21:55Speaker 2: like we're so talented and everyone's been here for two
- 22:00Speaker 2: you know, like there there isn't like, oh, we have
- 22:03Speaker 2: to get this guy incorporated.
- 22:04Speaker 3: We don't know how, We don't know how Virginia is
- 22:06Speaker 3: gonna play.
- 22:06Speaker 2: And because last year Virginia had a slow start, by
- 22:08Speaker 2: the end of the year she was killing it. And
- 22:11Speaker 2: you know, Mania like again last year we kind of
- 22:13Speaker 2: discovered o Maniah's good. How are we gonna fit her
- 22:16Speaker 2: in here when we have three blockers with Becca and
- 22:20Speaker 2: Andy playing and I just don't foresee us having those problems.
- 22:25Speaker 2: We ran back basically the same coaching staff. You know,
- 22:29Speaker 2: jalender Is is still there, Kelly, Kelly Hunter, Brendan Hager.
- 22:36Speaker 2: You know, it's it's a good crew. Our volleyboll program
- 22:41Speaker 2: is just stellar and we've got it figured out. And
- 22:44Speaker 2: Danny Bestman Kelly is a good coach. You know, she's
- 22:48Speaker 2: definitely John Cooks, you know what's the word. I'm looking
- 22:52Speaker 2: for students, and we just know how to do it.
- 22:56Speaker 3: We just haven't I will. That's I think that's what
- 23:02Speaker 3: got us last year.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Was with our ability to respond to a team that
- 23:08Speaker 2: was bigger and more athletic than us. We're super efficient
- 23:13Speaker 2: and we're big and we're athletic, and we just don't
- 23:15Speaker 2: run into teams that are bigger and faster than us.
- 23:18Speaker 2: That often, and it felt like we kind of cut
- 23:20Speaker 2: ourselves on our heels. Yeah, and I guess I know
- 23:24Speaker 2: that the fluid was going around the locker room last year.
- 23:26Speaker 2: I think Bergen was like a game day decision, you know.
- 23:31Speaker 2: So sure we had some things against us, like gosh,
- 23:34Speaker 2: we just need to be And that's again, that's what
- 23:37Speaker 2: Danny Best mckilly likes is big, fast, efficient games, you know,
- 23:43Speaker 2: forcing the opponents into the middle to our big blockers.
- 23:46Speaker 3: And I think we can do it.
- 23:49Speaker 2: We can do exactly what we want and I want
- 23:51Speaker 2: to see a translate to a championship.
- 23:53Speaker 3: It should.
- 23:54Speaker 2: We went thirty three and one. I suspect we'll go
- 23:59Speaker 2: a similar I will probably. I think we'll lose. We're
- 24:03Speaker 2: not gonna go undefeated in the regular season, like Texas
- 24:07Speaker 2: is tough, but.
- 24:10Speaker 3: It's not gonna be as good as last year during
- 24:11Speaker 3: the LEGA season.
- 24:12Speaker 2: But I think that's okay because I think it's okay
- 24:14Speaker 2: to have a couple of bumps along the way.
- 24:17Speaker 3: That's my preview. We're gonna be really freaking good.
- 24:20Speaker 2: If you want to buy your Final four tickets now,
- 24:22Speaker 2: I honestly I'd be fine with it.
- 24:26Speaker 4: Like you're probably gonna save money. If we do make it,
- 24:29Speaker 4: you're gonna save money doing it.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Now versus creating until book books the hotel, you can
- 24:35Speaker 2: always cancel the hotel.
- 24:38Speaker 3: So that's that's the outlook. It's looking good.
- 24:41Speaker 2: I suggest you watch a lot of games. It's the
- 24:44Speaker 2: most successful program we have in Nebraska.
- 24:48Speaker 4: We'll see how football goes and and maybe that'll get
- 24:51Speaker 4: me watching a few more volleyball games. But I yeah,
- 24:57Speaker 4: I mean, I'll, like I said, I I'll turn them on.
- 24:58Speaker 4: I'll have them on a BA they play, and I'm
- 25:01Speaker 4: not doing anything. I'm just not scheduling my.
- 25:03Speaker 3: My evening, which is totally fair.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Which I do for basketball and football.
- 25:08Speaker 2: So, I mean, the nice thing about volleyball, you know
- 25:12Speaker 2: it's on Thursday nights or Tuesdays or when you know
- 25:15Speaker 2: it's during the week during the football season.
- 25:17Speaker 3: It's like, oh and it's a it's a tight hour
- 25:20Speaker 3: and a half, two hours.
- 25:21Speaker 1: It's okay, four games an hour.
- 25:25Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, no kidding. We we sweep everyone. That's what
- 25:29Speaker 3: it was like. Like last year was crazy. I'm trying
- 25:31Speaker 3: to remember what game it was. I was. I was
- 25:33Speaker 3: early in or I was like, oh man, I want
- 25:35Speaker 3: to get home and watch. It was a big game.
- 25:38Speaker 3: I don't remember which one it was. I want to
- 25:39Speaker 3: get home watch a big game. And I got home.
- 25:41Speaker 3: It was over in like an hour, and I was like,
- 25:44Speaker 3: what the heck?
- 25:44Speaker 2: This is supposed to be like a slug Festah.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Yeah, we're we're really good. Yeah.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Last year we started, we played number three pit we
- 25:55Speaker 2: won three one. We played number six Stanford, we won
- 25:58Speaker 2: three to zero. We played number seven Kentucky won three
- 26:01Speaker 2: to two. That was three of our first four games,
- 26:07Speaker 2: and I don't even know. I think these rankings are
- 26:09Speaker 2: probably based off of that was within four days. Four
- 26:15Speaker 2: days we played three top ten teams that we beat
- 26:17Speaker 2: them all, with Kentucky giving us a little problems, but
- 26:22Speaker 2: Kentucky was a favorite to win an actual title. So
- 26:25Speaker 2: who are just really freaking good? Good for us? I
- 26:28Speaker 2: don't know how much money we're funneling into our program.
- 26:31Speaker 2: They reseeded and they did reset, right, you know, our
- 26:34Speaker 2: season ticket holder, So maybe there'll be a little more
- 26:36Speaker 2: juice in the arena. All right, that's it. So I
- 26:44Speaker 2: got I like it, was there any Husker football news
- 26:49Speaker 2: that we needed to shed light on.
- 26:52Speaker 1: I'll talk about it next week.
- 26:54Speaker 4: I think we have a couple more weeks here before
- 26:58Speaker 4: I gotsha, they felt the seasons later.
- 27:01Speaker 3: It is later, it is later.
- 27:02Speaker 4: Yeah, it just feels like we're dragging alonger. I keep
- 27:06Speaker 4: wanting to say, seasons back next week. I guess week
- 27:08Speaker 4: zero is next week here. I'm for college football, but
- 27:12Speaker 4: we are creeping closer every day.
- 27:16Speaker 3: The Celloud streak is done this year.
- 27:19Speaker 1: We'll talk about that next week.
- 27:20Speaker 2: The family pack four tickets plus forty dollars concession vouchers
- 27:24Speaker 2: for one hundred and sixty bucks.
- 27:27Speaker 4: We're not getting into this now because we're talking about
- 27:29Speaker 4: that next week.
- 27:30Speaker 2: Wait, buckets, it's crazy, all right, Go big read gbr.
- 27:42Speaker 1: The he life change, but the mission stays. The Memorial
- 27:46Speaker 1: Stadium to PBA days.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Football Saturdays, basketball nights, every story, chasing red and white, recruiting, busting.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Time, comments, camp battles, coaching hits, transform moves and rising.
- 27:59Speaker 1: So listen.
- 28:00Speaker 2: The road to glories never fall. This is return to glory,
- 28:06Speaker 2: where every headline tells the storm, Big Red Bride, every
- 28:10Speaker 2: cityson huskernations, God Reason.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Some touchdown stocks and championship dreams. We'll be back with
- 28:18Speaker 1: the latest rum. Every team until next time. Keeps the faith,
- 28:22Speaker 1: keep believing because don't return to glory. It's just beginning.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Go big room, see you next episode.
