- 0:00Speaker 1: Florida State beats Virginia 38-7 at Doak Campbell Stadium. It
- 0:04Speaker 1: was a little bit of revenge for the Noles after
- 0:07Speaker 1: last year's double overtime loss in Charlottesville. This one, honestly,
- 0:11Speaker 1: outside of the first quarter, was not close. I was
- 0:15Speaker 1: in Charlottesville last year for it. If there was ever
- 0:18Speaker 1: a team you needed to get a little retribution on
- 0:20Speaker 1: if you were the Noles, it was certainly this one.
- 0:22Speaker 2: They ended your streak of 3-0.
- 0:24Speaker 1: They started a tailspin where I believe what Florida state
- 0:27Speaker 1: went two and seven down the stretch. That first loss
- 0:31Speaker 1: to Virginia was the start of all of that. This
- 0:34Speaker 1: is ACC football addiction. Just some quick thoughts on the
- 0:37Speaker 1: FSU UVA game and such a weird spot to do
- 0:40Speaker 1: this in as an FSU guy, because talk about so
- 0:44Speaker 1: many teams and you also kind of understand that when
- 0:48Speaker 1: it's your team, it maybe means a little bit more.
- 0:50Speaker 1: So This is ACC Football Addiction. We are presented by PrizePix.
- 0:54Speaker 1: We're all new users who play a $ 5 lineup and win,
- 0:57Speaker 1: get $ 150 in lineups instantly if they.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Use code HMA.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Virginia scored first, and that first drive that they scored on,
- 1:05Speaker 1: I think it was actually their second drive of the game,
- 1:08Speaker 1: but Pribula scoring and looking pretty good on that drive.
- 1:12Speaker 1: I didn't think they were fantastic by any means, but
- 1:14Speaker 1: they looked good on that drive, and you immediately thought,
- 1:19Speaker 1: Oh boy, here goes Tony White's defense again.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Here goes this defense.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Good job on the first drive, but 63 yards, UVA
- 1:27Speaker 1: goes up 7-0. I think the quarter actually ended there
- 1:32Speaker 1: at 7-0. And I know if you're like me, you
- 1:34Speaker 1: thought this.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Is not going to be good.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Like this is the defense we were worried about. UVA
- 1:40Speaker 1: was able to move the ball kind of at will
- 1:43Speaker 1: on that drive. FSU's answer, We can think whatever we
- 1:51Speaker 1: want to think about the totality of the program and
- 1:54Speaker 1: where it's heading, but if you're talking about just this game,
- 1:57Speaker 1: FSU's answer today was phenomenal. They outscored UVA 17-0 in
- 2:02Speaker 1: the second quarter. They outscored them 14-0 in the third quarter.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Tacked on a late touchdown once the game was already
- 2:10Speaker 1: decided in the fourth quarter. UVA could not get anything going.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Florida State's first scoring drive of the day. This is impressive.
- 2:18Speaker 1: 98 yards, every scoring drive minus the field goal, which
- 2:25Speaker 1: was impressive as well. If it was 50 yards, um,
- 2:29Speaker 1: minus the scoring, the, the field goal ended in a
- 2:34Speaker 1: Ashton Daniels, 44 yards, sorry. Ashton Daniels touchdown run. He
- 2:38Speaker 1: was impressive, man. There is no doubt about it. And
- 2:41Speaker 1: I'll get to more of that in a moment, but
- 2:44Speaker 1: that 98 yard drive. was really impressive. The offense, man,
- 2:49Speaker 1: has been clicking. We've talked about that. Ever since whatever
- 2:53Speaker 1: happened during that SMU game was the case, which, again,
- 2:58Speaker 1: maybe you can blame that on the light stuff. Maybe
- 3:00Speaker 1: you can blame that on a lot of different things.
- 3:02Speaker 1: The offense has been clicking this year. None of you
- 3:06Speaker 1: like Mike Norvell.
- 3:07Speaker 2: I get that.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Or you don't like him being your coach, and I'm
- 3:09Speaker 1: right there with you. He's called good games. You cannot
- 3:12Speaker 1: say that he hasn't. Obviously, Florida State scores again before halftime.
- 3:16Speaker 1: It's 17-7. And it really did look like outside of
- 3:21Speaker 1: that one drive, that drive that Virginia scored on, I
- 3:25Speaker 1: believe UVA had like minus 12 yards of offense in
- 3:29Speaker 1: the first half after that drive. The defense, I think,
- 3:32Speaker 1: had three sacks. UVA was 0-4 on third down. Daniels
- 3:37Speaker 1: did have an interception with like 15 seconds left before
- 3:39Speaker 1: the half on a tipped ball.
- 3:41Speaker 2: That wasn't on him at all. That wasn't the best throw.
- 3:43Speaker 1: So maybe you could say it was on him just
- 3:45Speaker 1: a bit, but it hit Boggs in the hands.
- 3:47Speaker 2: You've got to catch that.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Daniels scored in the second half on a six-yard run,
- 3:52Speaker 1: an 81-yard run, and a one-yard run in the fourth quarter.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Five FSU rushing touchdowns. Panikowski added the 44-yard field goal.
- 4:01Speaker 1: all the extra points. But yeah, that's a, that's obviously
- 4:05Speaker 1: a record that, you know, to, to score five rushing
- 4:08Speaker 1: touchdowns as a quarterback. And I think you got to say, like,
- 4:11Speaker 1: I don't think Daniels is ever going to be some
- 4:13Speaker 1: prolific passer that just lights everybody's socks on fire, but
- 4:18Speaker 1: he came in ranked on this team ranked in this
- 4:22Speaker 1: conference is one of the worst quarterbacks in this conference.
- 4:26Speaker 1: And I think what you've seen through five weeks, 377
- 4:29Speaker 1: yards at Bama, yeah, he wasn't perfect against SMU by
- 4:32Speaker 1: any means.
- 4:33Speaker 2: But what you've seen for a lot of this year
- 4:34Speaker 2: is he.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Is not a great passer, but he can do enough
- 4:38Speaker 1: with his legs to maybe account for some of that.
- 4:42Speaker 1: And I think he was, you know, a lot of
- 4:44Speaker 1: power rankings had him like 14th in the ACC. I'd
- 4:47Speaker 1: say he was well behind Pribula at Virginia and came
- 4:52Speaker 1: into this game. with 24 touchdowns and 22 picks. He
- 4:55Speaker 1: added to the picks. He didn't add to the passing touchdowns,
- 4:59Speaker 1: but he significantly outplayed the guy ahead of him without
- 5:02Speaker 1: throwing a passing touchdown. And even if you took his
- 5:04Speaker 1: legs away, the defense was really impressive today. Listen, I've
- 5:09Speaker 1: given Tony White as much crap as anybody else. I
- 5:11Speaker 1: thought he should have been fired after that Bama performance,
- 5:15Speaker 1: which was incredibly bad. like historically legendary, legendarily bad. If
- 5:22Speaker 1: I can even come up with the words really good today,
- 5:26Speaker 1: you cannot, you know, again, it's so weird to do
- 5:29Speaker 1: this because you have your thoughts on where this program is.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Big picture, Virginia had 205 yards. They also had a
- 5:37Speaker 1: drive towards the end of the game that went 55
- 5:39Speaker 1: yards and was a turnover on downs when the game
- 5:41Speaker 1: was already over 38 to seven, those plays still happen.
- 5:47Speaker 1: But I think you can take those 55 yards off
- 5:48Speaker 1: of the team's total. You had backups in there. The
- 5:53Speaker 1: game was, you were up by 31. It didn't matter.
- 5:57Speaker 1: You really held them to 150 yards of offense on
- 6:01Speaker 1: the day. I will tell you, Pribula is terrible. And
- 6:04Speaker 1: that's not to take anything away from FSU. I'm still
- 6:07Speaker 1: not sold that this defense is elite by any means. But, man,
- 6:11Speaker 1: you had linebackers out.
- 6:12Speaker 2: You had.
- 6:13Speaker 1: DB's out. Obviously, on the other side of the ball,
- 6:17Speaker 1: Sam Singleton, you lost for the year. But I think
- 6:20Speaker 1: your linebacker room is incredibly thin. Jones continues to be
- 6:23Speaker 1: your best player on defense at linebacker. I believe Rawls
- 6:26Speaker 1: got banged up in this game. And defensively, this was
- 6:29Speaker 1: the best performance you'd seen all year. Not even close.
- 6:34Speaker 1: The Florida State defense, for as much crap as we've
- 6:39Speaker 1: given Tony White, was huge today. And you can win
- 6:43Speaker 1: a lot of games if you can run the ball
- 6:44Speaker 1: and play defense. And Cromwell was fine. But story of
- 6:49Speaker 1: the game was Ashton Daniels, without a doubt. What Cromwell
- 6:53Speaker 1: finished with, 80 yards on 17 carries. So not a
- 6:57Speaker 1: crazy great average or anything.
- 6:58Speaker 2: But he was steady. He was consistent.
- 7:00Speaker 1: He was consistently picking up yardage out there on the ground. Daniels,
- 7:05Speaker 1: 136 on the same 17 carries. The five touchdowns is
- 7:09Speaker 1: pretty spectacular.
- 7:10Speaker 2: The....
- 7:13Speaker 1: Any game that you needed out of this team to
- 7:16Speaker 1: hope that you had any kind of positivity going forward
- 7:20Speaker 1: was the one that you got.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Do me a quick favor.
- 7:23Speaker 1: If you're watching this, I know we do a lot
- 7:24Speaker 1: on Double Fries No Slaw. We will go live there tomorrow.

- 7:39Speaker 1: things on different channels. Do me a favor and hit
- 7:41Speaker 1: the button on this one as well. If you're already subscribed,
- 7:43Speaker 1: go subscribe on audio as well. ACC Football Addiction, Apple Podcasts, Spotify,
- 7:47Speaker 1: wherever you listen to your pods at. I'm ready for
- 7:49Speaker 1: this ACC channel to jump back ahead of the SEC
- 7:51Speaker 1: when the SEC one passed it up recently.
- 7:55Speaker 2: FSU now 3-2. The schedule now gets very, very real.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Florida State plays back-to-back road games at Louisville on Friday,
- 8:01Speaker 1: so you have a short week, and then at Miami.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Listen, you're going to that Louisville game with more wins
- 8:06Speaker 2: than they have.
- 8:07Speaker 1: And so I'm not telling you I think Florida State
- 8:08Speaker 1: is absolutely going to win that game. I'm not telling you, oh,
- 8:11Speaker 1: this is going to be easy or anything like that.
- 8:12Speaker 1: I think it'll still be incredibly tough. You haven't won
- 8:14Speaker 1: a road game in close to 1,100 days. This is
- 8:17Speaker 1: your chance to get really, really right back on the
- 8:19Speaker 1: right track. You get to 4-2, beating Virginia, who beat
- 8:23Speaker 1: you last year, beating Louisville, who everybody thought was a
- 8:27Speaker 1: lot better than you.
- 8:28Speaker 2: And they seem to be a little worse.
- 8:29Speaker 1: 2-3, they lost to NC State, who got trounced by
- 8:32Speaker 1: this Virginia team that you just played. and you trounced,
- 8:36Speaker 1: you absolutely have a chance to go out and win
- 8:38Speaker 1: that game. I'm not saying you do. I think it'll
- 8:41Speaker 1: be incredibly tough, but you have a chance to go
- 8:44Speaker 1: out and do something special. Then Miami, I don't really
- 8:48Speaker 1: feel much better about that one, but we'll see. You
- 8:50Speaker 1: go win on the road at Louisville, maybe you feel
- 8:52Speaker 1: a slight bit better about the way that that.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Miami game will go.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Then you got a bye week to get ready for Clemson.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Clemson's playing right now on my iPad in front of
- 8:59Speaker 1: me against Miami. They're down seven, nothing, but they are driving.
- 9:02Speaker 1: They've got the ball in Miami territory that you picked
- 9:05Speaker 1: up a first down. So three of your ACC premier
- 9:10Speaker 1: kind of opponents, I know Louisville's a little down, but
- 9:12Speaker 1: you've got a chance over the, if you go two
- 9:14Speaker 1: and three in this stretch, I think you're feeling a
- 9:16Speaker 1: lot better about the direction that this season could potentially go.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Now, what's that mean for the big picture with Mike Norvell?
- 9:23Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 9:23Speaker 1: This is a game recap. My thoughts on Mike Norvell
- 9:26Speaker 1: leading this program haven't really changed. I'm sure I'll talk
- 9:29Speaker 1: about them through the week. Mike's obviously pretty safe right now,
- 9:31Speaker 1: winning by 31 at home in a feel-good type of
- 9:35Speaker 1: game where I thought everything worked really well. Defense was good.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Offense was good. Other team didn't play especially well. I
- 9:42Speaker 1: think Pribula's pretty bad. Tony Elliott just didn't look like
- 9:46Speaker 1: a great coach today. He got significantly outcoached by Mike Norvell,
- 9:49Speaker 1: who I thought was really good and has been really
- 9:51Speaker 1: good offensively for the last couple of games.
- 9:55Speaker 2: That New Mexico State game was weird.
- 9:58Speaker 1: The SMU game, looking back, does frustrate me more. I've
- 10:01Speaker 1: been pretty positive in this, so my one bit of negativity.
- 10:05Speaker 1: The SMU game frustrates me a little bit more now
- 10:08Speaker 1: because I certainly think you could have used Ashton Daniels
- 10:11Speaker 1: a little bit differently than you did, and it would
- 10:13Speaker 1: have helped you a lot. You were this close to
- 10:15Speaker 1: winning that game, and if Florida State's 4-1 right now,
- 10:19Speaker 1: Is that what their record?
- 10:20Speaker 2: Yeah, they're 3-2.
- 10:20Speaker 1: So if they were 4-1 right now with the only
- 10:23Speaker 1: loss on the season being a respectable loss to Bama,
- 10:27Speaker 1: I don't think many of us would be as heated
- 10:29Speaker 1: as we are. So, hey, you went out and got
- 10:32Speaker 1: it done today. Frustrates me a little bit from that
- 10:35Speaker 1: SMU game. The Bama game, they're a good team. You
- 10:38Speaker 1: probably shouldn't have been up the way you were. Yeah,
- 10:40Speaker 1: it's a little frustrating. But you go out and beat Louisville,
- 10:43Speaker 1: probably makes up for the SMU loss. And you're 4-2, man. You're...
- 10:48Speaker 1: And there's a lot to tell you. Again, I don't
- 10:50Speaker 1: know if this is good news or bad news for
- 10:52Speaker 1: the folks that want to have a coaching change. There's
- 10:54Speaker 1: winnable games left on the schedule. You're going to play Louisville,
- 10:56Speaker 1: who's 2-3 right now, just lost to NC State. You're
- 10:59Speaker 1: going to play Pittsburgh, who doesn't have their quarterback. You're
- 11:01Speaker 1: going to play BC, who I don't think is very good.
- 11:04Speaker 1: You're going to play NC State, who got trounced by
- 11:07Speaker 1: this Virginia team. BC lost to SMU by 9 today.
- 11:11Speaker 2: I don't think you beat Florida.
- 11:15Speaker 1: But you play a Florida team that just had 45
- 11:17Speaker 1: put up on them against Missouri. Now I think Florida's
- 11:19Speaker 1: still better than you and they'll probably win because they
- 11:22Speaker 1: can run the ball, but you got a lot of
- 11:24Speaker 1: winnable games left on the schedule. I don't think Clemson's
- 11:27Speaker 1: great and tell you that, you know, so that's winnable too.
- 11:30Speaker 1: I think the only game that's left on the schedule
- 11:31Speaker 1: that you would say you probably don't have a very
- 11:34Speaker 1: good chance in is the Miami one.
- 11:35Speaker 2: I think you got a chance in anything else.
- 11:36Speaker 1: If you play like this, if the defense brings pressure
- 11:39Speaker 1: like this, you play more man, you play less zone,
- 11:41Speaker 1: you get home on the quarterback and your offense keeps rolling.
- 11:45Speaker 1: I mean, I think it's three weeks in a row.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Your offense has looked really good. Bama, the game against
- 11:52Speaker 1: last week, I thought the offense was really good. I
- 11:54Speaker 1: think they only punted once and had one turnover, scored
- 11:56Speaker 1: on every other possession. That was on the defense for
- 11:58Speaker 1: only letting you have 19 minutes of possession. And then
- 12:00Speaker 1: today scored 38 points and could have scored more if
- 12:03Speaker 1: you needed to in the fourth quarter. So, yeah, I
- 12:05Speaker 1: think that if your offense can keep rolling like this,
- 12:08Speaker 1: you can win a lot of games this season.
- 12:09Speaker 2: What's that do for the big picture? I don't know, man.
- 12:12Speaker 1: This is a game recap. So appreciate you guys for
