- 0:15Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode one twenty four of
- 0:19Speaker 1: Cards and Categories. I'm Mike cool Art from rams Ball,
- 0:22Speaker 1: joined as always by my very good friend Jeremy Brewer,
- 0:25Speaker 1: also from Raansball. How you doing tonight, buddy.
- 0:28Speaker 2: We are hanging in there, trying to stay nice and
- 0:30Speaker 2: warm like the rest of the United States. I was
- 0:32Speaker 2: talking to somebody in Arizona today and they said, it's
- 0:34Speaker 2: a whole sixty five degrees, so it's pretty cold everywhere.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I mean, they probably still put on their winter coat.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I think they did.
- 0:40Speaker 2: They said there's a whole fifteen degrees below sunlight. But
- 0:44Speaker 2: it's definitely turning the seasons. And nothing better to talk
- 0:49Speaker 2: about to warm us up than a little bit of baseball.
- 0:51Speaker 2: So I'm excited about the session tonight.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Yeah. We are speaking here on Wednesday, January twenty eighth,
- 0:57Speaker 1: and our main segment, we're gonna preview the vaunted Al East.
- 1:01Speaker 1: We've got a lot of great teams the Al East
- 1:04Speaker 1: this year, so because of that, you've also got lots
- 1:07Speaker 1: of fantasy possibilities. Coming back to preview the division with
- 1:11Speaker 1: us is once again Marmo's Dad aka Matt Frank aka
- 1:16Speaker 1: mister Top one hundred pitchers from ras Ball. So if
- 1:20Speaker 1: you've been listening to the podcast in these previews the
- 1:22Speaker 1: past couple of years, you know and love him because
- 1:24Speaker 1: he's been our go to ale least guru with his
- 1:29Speaker 1: expertise as a Blue Jays fan. So we have a
- 1:33Speaker 1: great conversation with him coming up, getting into those buys
- 1:35Speaker 1: and sells across the division. Always a great time to
- 1:38Speaker 1: have Matt on. So before we get into that, though,
- 1:41Speaker 1: let's get into some of the news and notes. I
- 1:43Speaker 1: know that we're coming off are you still Are you
- 1:45Speaker 1: recovered from last week's pod? It was quite the marathon,
- 1:48Speaker 1: but this week we've got slightly fewer transactions to get through, so.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Slightly fewer I think got recovered, but it's it might
- 1:58Speaker 2: be nice to have a little lighter transaction week because
- 2:01Speaker 2: I think we had to go through about forty and
- 2:03Speaker 2: like twenty minutes, and I'm sure we failed actually getting
- 2:08Speaker 2: through in that speed.
- 2:09Speaker 1: I think there's all It feels like this always happens
- 2:11Speaker 1: in this period of January, where like every team in
- 2:14Speaker 1: the front office is like crap, I've got to book
- 2:17Speaker 1: all my travel arrangements to get to pictures and catchers
- 2:19Speaker 1: in spring training on time and like find my Airbnb
- 2:22Speaker 1: and so on and so forth. And I think that
- 2:24Speaker 1: maybe happen this week is we have a very limited
- 2:26Speaker 1: slate of transactions to get into. Like I said, so
- 2:29Speaker 1: we've got first, the biggest one of the week. It
- 2:33Speaker 1: actually broke right after we had recorded our other podcast
- 2:37Speaker 1: last week, when we even broke the Freddie Perlza trade
- 2:40Speaker 1: to the Mets Live. This is another picture being traded,
- 2:44Speaker 1: and this time we have Mackenzie Gore going from the
- 2:46Speaker 1: Padres to the Rangers for quite the hall out of Texas,
- 2:51Speaker 1: including their first round pick from this past year, Gavin
- 2:54Speaker 1: feene or fine I'm not totally sharing the pronunciation there,
- 2:57Speaker 1: but also Alejandro Azario, who's a pretty solid right handed pitcher,
- 3:02Speaker 1: and I'm gonna mess this up Abbot ab melek Ortiz,
- 3:08Speaker 1: who is a first baseman, been hanging out in the
- 3:11Speaker 1: Ranger system for a while, but honestly gonna be competing
- 3:13Speaker 1: for the first base job with Washington right out the gate,
- 3:17Speaker 1: as well as Devin Fitzgerald and Jermie Cabrera. So that
- 3:21Speaker 1: is five pretty nice pieces for the Washington Nationals. Actually,
- 3:26Speaker 1: I think we'll start there before we get into Gore.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Because any of those really kind of popping out to you,
- 3:31Speaker 1: given like the Washington Nationals are a little bit kind
- 3:35Speaker 1: of like in the range of like where the Rockies
- 3:37Speaker 1: and the White Sox have been the past couple of years,
- 3:39Speaker 1: where certainly nothing from a real fantasy or from a
- 3:44Speaker 1: real baseball standpoint. From a fantasy standpoint, though you can
- 3:48Speaker 1: find cheap options like Ortiz or Rosario or Fiend maybe
- 3:53Speaker 1: in the future for dynasty, but anything really kind of
- 3:56Speaker 1: standing out to you there in that hall that you're like, Hey,
- 3:59Speaker 1: this guy's more interesting to me on Washington than he
- 4:02Speaker 1: was with Texas.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I I don't know that I can
- 4:05Speaker 2: say that because the vast majority of these are long
- 4:07Speaker 2: term plays for Washington. You know, clearly, Gavin Feene at
- 4:12Speaker 2: least that's I'm going to same pronunciation as you is
- 4:15Speaker 2: the big get there being you know, the first rounder
- 4:18Speaker 2: and you know, really not just first round or twelfth
- 4:22Speaker 2: overall in the twenty five drafts. And there's there's a
- 4:24Speaker 2: lots to like there, pretty well rounded hitter, but again,
- 4:28Speaker 2: this is just a guy that at this point has
- 4:30Speaker 2: a whole ten gate games at age eighteen at a
- 4:34Speaker 2: ball So we're looking a long ways away, So I
- 4:37Speaker 2: see a lot of organizational death, a lot of darts
- 4:40Speaker 2: on talent and hoping somebody, somebody works out. This doesn't
- 4:44Speaker 2: feel too different than maybe that one soda trade with
- 4:48Speaker 2: the Padres when it's like, oh, there's some really good names,
- 4:51Speaker 2: but we'll see him in three or four years. And
- 4:53Speaker 2: now we're starting to talk about some of those guys
- 4:55Speaker 2: right over the last few years. So I'm a little
- 4:58Speaker 2: less intrigued by that side of the things, beyond the
- 5:01Speaker 2: fact that it does signal the value that the Rangers
- 5:05Speaker 2: saw in McKenzie gore, because there was quite a bit
- 5:08Speaker 2: of talent from their you know, top thirty prospects going
- 5:11Speaker 2: across across the way.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Yeah, so let's get into discussing mackenzie Gore here, because
- 5:16Speaker 1: I mean he was actually Chris Towers is buy from
- 5:18Speaker 1: the Washington Nationals last week because of just the solid
- 5:22Speaker 1: strikeout rate. You know, he posted a career high ten
- 5:26Speaker 1: point four K nine last year, but it was also
- 5:29Speaker 1: supported by a seventeen point eight K minus b B
- 5:32Speaker 1: put up a four to seventeen era over one hundred
- 5:35Speaker 1: and fifty nine two thirds innings a better fifth though
- 5:37Speaker 1: a three seventy four fifth, But I mean he was
- 5:40Speaker 1: also in the first half like otherworldly. It was a
- 5:43Speaker 1: three h two ERA over one hundred and ten and
- 5:45Speaker 1: third innings and then faded down the stretch with a
- 5:48Speaker 1: six seventy five RA over forty nine and third innings
- 5:51Speaker 1: after the All Star break. I can also I feel
- 5:54Speaker 1: like you can chalk that up to like playing for
- 5:56Speaker 1: that Washington Nationals team must have been pretty depressing last year,
- 5:59Speaker 1: especially seeing their rejectory of like not only were they
- 6:02Speaker 1: bad last year, but like they were really starting to
- 6:05Speaker 1: set the stage for them to like be bad for
- 6:09Speaker 1: the next five years, like really really like death of
- 6:12Speaker 1: the Baltimore Orioles and Houston Astros and Chicago White Sox bad.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I think it's what's about to be happening in Washington.
- 6:18Speaker 1: So I don't give Gore like full credit for what
- 6:22Speaker 1: happened in the second half. But then again, you know,
- 6:25Speaker 1: it was a long season and we've only ever seen
- 6:28Speaker 1: him max out at one hundred and sixty six and
- 6:30Speaker 1: a third innings. So what do you think about Mackenzie
- 6:33Speaker 1: Gore landing in Texas should be a huge ballpark up grade.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Texas is one of the better pitchers parks out there.
- 6:40Speaker 1: While Washington shades towards one of the better hitters parks.
- 6:44Speaker 1: So that's a big upgrade, but more expectations and just
- 6:49Speaker 1: a lot going on in that al West to relearn
- 6:52Speaker 1: for Gore.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I think huge ballpark up grade, not just because
- 6:57Speaker 2: of the overall play, but for a flood pitcher, it
- 7:01Speaker 2: can't even be any better. A pretty decent defense there
- 7:05Speaker 2: relative to what he had with in Washington will also
- 7:09Speaker 2: play a factor as well. And your point, you can't
- 7:13Speaker 2: underestimate the plane in Washington for three years just kind
- 7:17Speaker 2: of cast off the side. He continued to get better
- 7:19Speaker 2: and better and better. So like I think there's a
- 7:22Speaker 2: ton of upside here, I'm not quite sure I fully
- 7:25Speaker 2: biden to McKenzie gore as the ace that he's been
- 7:28Speaker 2: kind of quoted in this trade. This just clearly a
- 7:31Speaker 2: reactionary trade for Freddy peraltity, Like a the guys are
- 7:35Speaker 2: coming off the block, so I gotta get something done.
- 7:37Speaker 2: But I do think this bumps up McKenzie gore in
- 7:40Speaker 2: your starting pension rankings pretty pretty significantly. It's not just
- 7:44Speaker 2: like a spot or two. This is probably a five
- 7:46Speaker 2: or seven spot jump for him because of how good
- 7:50Speaker 2: that ballpark is gonna be. So I really do think
- 7:53Speaker 2: McKenzie Gore is gonna be kind of a guy to
- 7:55Speaker 2: go after this year because I think you're gonna see
- 7:59Speaker 2: improvement just from a better staff, better defense, better ballpark,
- 8:04Speaker 2: and then just again, the guy's still only, you know,
- 8:07Speaker 2: twenty six years old, like it'll be twenty seven with
- 8:11Speaker 2: season starts. But there's still a lot to unlock there.
- 8:14Speaker 2: So I'm liking what I'm seeing form McKinsey Gore here,
- 8:16Speaker 2: and I think it could be a better landing spot
- 8:18Speaker 2: for him.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Okay, all right, let's get into the next transaction we have,
- 8:22Speaker 1: which is outfielder Harrison Bader signing a two year, twenty
- 8:26Speaker 1: point five million dollar contract with the San Francisco Giants.
- 8:31Speaker 1: A whole five hundred kN incentives in there, so it
- 8:33Speaker 1: could get up to twenty one million dollars. But this
- 8:37Speaker 1: is a new Harrison Bader that we saw last year.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Career high career best one twenty two WRC plus a
- 8:44Speaker 1: career high in home runs at seventeen, a career high
- 8:48Speaker 1: non twenty twenty Division barrel rate of ten point two percent,
- 8:52Speaker 1: but I mean a career best of thirty two total
- 8:55Speaker 1: barrels career best hard hit rate of forty point three percent,
- 8:59Speaker 1: and it showed right in the bat speed. The bat
- 9:01Speaker 1: speed was in the seventy first percentile. Last year he
- 9:05Speaker 1: mashed when he got over to the Philadelphia Phillies. But
- 9:08Speaker 1: it was certainly a different look for Harrison Bader last
- 9:12Speaker 1: year in his age thirty one season. It will be
- 9:14Speaker 1: his age thirty two season here with the San Francisco Giants.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Not a great ballpark for him overall, But I mean,
- 9:21Speaker 1: we saw a lot of good work for Bader last year,
- 9:23Speaker 1: especially when he went over to Philadelphia and felt the
- 9:26Speaker 1: energy of playing for a solid team. So what are
- 9:30Speaker 1: you expecting of Beader here going in joining the Giants.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Is it somebody that you're counting on as like an
- 9:35Speaker 1: outfielder four or five and feel comfortable trying to pencil
- 9:39Speaker 1: him for like a fifteen to fifteen in an everyday
- 9:41Speaker 1: job with San Francisco Or do you think what we
- 9:44Speaker 1: saw in the second half, especially for last year out
- 9:46Speaker 1: of Aarrrison Bader was a blip on the radar of
- 9:50Speaker 1: this career. Yeah, I mean I tend towards the ladder.
- 9:54Speaker 2: I'm probably okay with him as a fifth outfielder, but
- 9:57Speaker 2: not to thrill about it. I think at the end
- 10:00Speaker 2: of the day, he's going to play every day because
- 10:02Speaker 2: he's a fantastic fielder and in that ballpark that you
- 10:06Speaker 2: need that in center field, so he's gonna play all
- 10:08Speaker 2: the time. I expect he's probably gonna hit towards the
- 10:11Speaker 2: top of that lineup.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I guess I haven't checked the projection resource right now.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Really I'm surprised by that, but you know, I think
- 10:19Speaker 2: he's gonna, you know, to your point, maybe pull a
- 10:21Speaker 2: fifteen fifteen. I think it's with what he's done there,
- 10:24Speaker 2: the pole heavy that he is, I think he's probably
- 10:27Speaker 2: gonna be more like a fifteen ten or maybe a
- 10:30Speaker 2: ten ten at the end of the day. But there's
- 10:33Speaker 2: there's worse things we had, so I think I saw
- 10:35Speaker 2: it was Bob Night and Goal when when the signing
- 10:38Speaker 2: was made, made a tweet that like the.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Giants got their big hitter or something like that. I'm like, they.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Signed a decent sized contract, but it's more because the
- 10:47Speaker 2: fielding of abilities.
- 10:49Speaker 1: So I'm not too psyched here.
- 10:51Speaker 2: I've tried to get on the Harrison Bader trained years
- 10:53Speaker 2: years and years as we've gone past, because you see
- 10:56Speaker 2: the little glimpses of it, but it just comes down
- 10:58Speaker 2: to you, Harrison Bader's a solid play or better real
- 11:01Speaker 2: world player than fantasy player.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I'm a little more positive than you
- 11:05Speaker 1: because mostly that that speed increase was legit, and there
- 11:09Speaker 1: have been stories that Bader did really work on reconfiguring
- 11:13Speaker 1: his swing last year, and I think what we're seeing
- 11:17Speaker 1: is more of who he is going forward. And I think,
- 11:21Speaker 1: I mean, the draft price isn't substantial right now, but
- 11:24Speaker 1: that's also because he was a free agent. But I
- 11:26Speaker 1: don't mind throwing a dart at Harrison Bader, probably a
- 11:30Speaker 1: little bit before his price, and probably at his price
- 11:32Speaker 1: when it finally settles, just because I'm willing to see
- 11:36Speaker 1: what happens that. Like, it's also late enough where you're
- 11:39Speaker 1: not like really putting a lot of weight on the
- 11:43Speaker 1: Harrison Bader performance for your fantasy team. And if he
- 11:46Speaker 1: kind of turns back into what he was previously and
- 11:50Speaker 1: you know, more of like a volume play with a
- 11:54Speaker 1: little bit of adding average, it's not going to kill you.
- 11:56Speaker 1: But I'm willing to take a little bit of a
- 11:59Speaker 1: gambled to see if those batspeed gains stick and if
- 12:03Speaker 1: Harrison Vader is able to be able to be a
- 12:06Speaker 1: guy with that increased hard hit rate, increased barrel rate,
- 12:09Speaker 1: and if he is, then you're looking at somebody who
- 12:12Speaker 1: could be in for a monster career year because I
- 12:16Speaker 1: don't see anybody else playing center field for San Francisco
- 12:19Speaker 1: and they need it badly. Okay, well let's get into
- 12:23Speaker 1: our next signing, which is the Chicago White Sox traded
- 12:27Speaker 1: Luis Robert to save twenty million bucks. Chris Getz said
- 12:30Speaker 1: it allowed them to do aggressive things, and they immediately
- 12:34Speaker 1: went out and did maybe like the most ridiculous short
- 12:38Speaker 1: term signing I think you could think of in signing
- 12:41Speaker 1: a back end closer bullpen piece in Sir Anthony Demingez,
- 12:45Speaker 1: two years, ten million dollars. That's twenty million dollars. I'm
- 12:49Speaker 1: also pretty certain that Jerry's like, yeah, we did spend
- 12:51Speaker 1: the twenty million dollars, and you know, obviously it's spread
- 12:54Speaker 1: over two years instead of one. But welcome to the
- 12:57Speaker 1: Chicago White Sox, Sir Anthony Dimingez. It should walk in
- 13:01Speaker 1: and be the everyday closer for the White Sox right now.
- 13:04Speaker 1: And I don't think that's something to scoff at, because
- 13:07Speaker 1: this is gonna be. I think a team that's probably
- 13:10Speaker 1: more in like the seventy ish win area for next year,
- 13:15Speaker 1: and they're gonna be tight games, so there's gonna be
- 13:17Speaker 1: lots of saves up for grabs. Sir Anthony Dugez has
- 13:20Speaker 1: never had a full time closing job, you know, even
- 13:23Speaker 1: in his rookie season is probably the closest when he
- 13:25Speaker 1: pulled down sixteen saves in fifty three games, but that
- 13:28Speaker 1: was more of like sub in duty here and there
- 13:31Speaker 1: as he was being the closer. Last year put a
- 13:34Speaker 1: three sixteen rare over sixty two and two thirds between
- 13:39Speaker 1: two teams in Baltimore and Toronto, but the walk rate
- 13:42Speaker 1: was over five but also career best outside that rookie year.
- 13:47Speaker 1: I guess great K nine of eleven point four. The
- 13:52Speaker 1: defense behind him should be better than it has been
- 13:55Speaker 1: for the White Sox. But also because he's only striking
- 13:58Speaker 1: out and walking people, you don't have to work about
- 14:00Speaker 1: the defense as much. What do you think about Dimingos
- 14:03Speaker 1: as a closer too? Is it too many walks for
- 14:07Speaker 1: you or is it just kind of like the right
- 14:09Speaker 1: mix of strikeouts and right price and decent number of
- 14:13Speaker 1: save opportunities.
- 14:15Speaker 2: I think you bail the head. It just it all
- 14:16Speaker 2: kind of feels right. The walks to I mean, you know,
- 14:19Speaker 2: I'm a guy that gets a little where the walks
- 14:21Speaker 2: walkstalls carried me with Domingos two things. You're in a
- 14:23Speaker 2: closure role. So the short stints not nearly is an issue.
- 14:27Speaker 2: And historically he's never really had that big of an
- 14:29Speaker 2: issue with control, and so from a closer reliever, to
- 14:32Speaker 2: have one year that kind of jumps out in control.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Like he's been relatively a three and a half walk
- 14:38Speaker 2: per nine guy, not five plus in his career. So
- 14:41Speaker 2: I have seen no reason he can't get back to that.
- 14:44Speaker 2: And his stuff played up a little bit last year
- 14:46Speaker 2: from an overall quality perspective, so I like it.
- 14:49Speaker 1: I think he's a guy.
- 14:50Speaker 2: That you could probably say twenty twenty five saves. The
- 14:55Speaker 2: ra is gonna be a little below four or right
- 14:57Speaker 2: at four, and there's really I think the draft price
- 15:01Speaker 2: is gonna be pretty low because people just don't want
- 15:03Speaker 2: to buy a White Sox closer, which is I understand.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I think it's fair.
- 15:07Speaker 2: I actually kind of really liked Grant Taylor going into
- 15:09Speaker 2: this year, but hey, maybe maybe the year after two
- 15:13Speaker 2: years after I'm not sure what's gonna be, but I
- 15:15Speaker 2: think there's a lot of value in Divinaz here.
- 15:17Speaker 1: I think I'll be targeting. Yeah, I think so too.
- 15:20Speaker 1: And I think it was actually Jordan Leisure who was
- 15:22Speaker 1: going to be the closer there. Uh and I was.
- 15:25Speaker 1: I was picking up shares where I could because I
- 15:27Speaker 1: liked him. It was solid him too. I just thought
- 15:30Speaker 1: Taylor is gonna beat up in spring training. But yeah,
- 15:33Speaker 1: I think yeah. And then plus, I think the White
- 15:35Speaker 1: Sox still want to keep the door open for Taylor
- 15:38Speaker 1: to start one day. Yeah, which is an I think
- 15:41Speaker 1: it's a it's a pipe dream. But I think they
- 15:43Speaker 1: want to find a little bit more of a multi
- 15:46Speaker 1: inning relief role and high leverage role for Taylor and
- 15:49Speaker 1: make use of the draft pick that they spent on him.
- 15:52Speaker 1: So but yeah, no, I mean with that like it,
- 15:55Speaker 1: it's turning me out to be a much more interesting
- 15:58Speaker 1: bullpen than it has been. And so it's the team
- 16:01Speaker 1: is coming together, slowly but surely in Chicago on the outside. Okay,
- 16:06Speaker 1: last transaction that we have just broke this afternoon, a
- 16:10Speaker 1: little bit of a trade. The result of this trade, though,
- 16:15Speaker 1: does bring some sad news. My boy jan kil Fernandez
- 16:19Speaker 1: got dfa by the Colorado Rockies, which also is absurd.
- 16:23Speaker 1: I can't believe that the Rockies didn't have somebody else
- 16:26Speaker 1: on their forty man that they could have let go
- 16:29Speaker 1: instead of this guy who got one year with them
- 16:32Speaker 1: and should be claimed, I would think. I mean, I
- 16:36Speaker 1: don't see why teams won't take a shot at him,
- 16:39Speaker 1: because like, yeah, Rocky's gonna Rocky. This trade though, will
- 16:44Speaker 1: bring in Pearson Ole and Edward Julian from the Minnesota Twins.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Pearson Ole is a is a knuckleballer. I don't unless
- 16:53Speaker 1: it's honestly, like, there's only two Rockies pictures that should
- 16:58Speaker 1: even be considered for fantasy. It's Chase Dollander and that's
- 17:02Speaker 1: only when he's starting the road, and then Victor Vadnenk
- 17:04Speaker 1: just for the saves. So we don't even need to
- 17:07Speaker 1: talk about all. I don't think the focus here is
- 17:10Speaker 1: gonna be Edward Julian, who you know a few years
- 17:13Speaker 1: ago he was all the rage in twenty twenty three
- 17:15Speaker 1: when he had that sixteen homer season one thirty four
- 17:18Speaker 1: WRC plus two sixty three three eighty one four to
- 17:21Speaker 1: fifty nine slash line over four and in eight play
- 17:23Speaker 1: appearances with the Twins and has never been able to
- 17:26Speaker 1: find that magic again. The swing and miss has just
- 17:29Speaker 1: been too much and he's just never been able to
- 17:32Speaker 1: find a everyday role in Minnesota. Not a worry for
- 17:37Speaker 1: the Colorado Rockies because he should be there starting every
- 17:39Speaker 1: day second baseman. They currently have him in a strong
- 17:41Speaker 1: side platoon, but I wouldn't be surprised the Rockies just
- 17:45Speaker 1: let Julian go for it and get even at bats
- 17:48Speaker 1: against lefties. He will knock Addi l Amador out of
- 17:53Speaker 1: the starting lineup. But I don't think Amador is honestly
- 17:56Speaker 1: anything long term. It's he's never shown kind of the
- 17:59Speaker 1: ability to hang in the major leagues. But what do
- 18:01Speaker 1: you think about Julian and Colorado? We will talk about
- 18:05Speaker 1: it a little bit in our Al East preview. Second
- 18:07Speaker 1: base is awful. It's a terrible, terrible position this year.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Are you maybe taking any shares very late? Especially it's
- 18:18Speaker 1: gonna be like a reserves pick right now for Julian,
- 18:20Speaker 1: but the upside could be tremendous in Colorado. Yeah, I
- 18:24Speaker 1: don't know.
- 18:24Speaker 2: I'm quite there to take the reserve picks. I think
- 18:26Speaker 2: it's it's one of those, you know, kind of post
- 18:28Speaker 2: hype sleeper type thing that you could maybe twist my
- 18:31Speaker 2: arm into thinking the Colorado thing sometimes thinks we overblowed
- 18:35Speaker 2: a little bit when this is a guy that had
- 18:38Speaker 2: two hundred eight play appearances last year and hit three homers,
- 18:41Speaker 2: hit two twenty, Like, yes, there was some hope in
- 18:44Speaker 2: the miners, and he did have that one, you know,
- 18:46Speaker 2: good year where he kind of works on the spring
- 18:48Speaker 2: stream as a rookie, but he has strikeout rates. He
- 18:50Speaker 2: had luck behind him, and so things worked out pretty
- 18:53Speaker 2: pretty well for him.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Again, I like these.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Getting a run because I think there's talent there. I
- 19:00Speaker 2: just I just there's too much rockiness of that profile
- 19:03Speaker 2: for me, pun intended, and I just I just don't
- 19:06Speaker 2: think that he's gonna be able to do enough that
- 19:08Speaker 2: I'm really willing to go there. Yeah, called, and I'll
- 19:11Speaker 2: only league flyer. I'm I'm I'm gain, but I thinks
- 19:15Speaker 2: I'm selling the sidelines watching this one.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I'm a little bit rosier, but not
- 19:19Speaker 1: a lot.
- 19:19Speaker 2: I think it is more of a reserve because there's
- 19:21Speaker 2: not much Undy just even willing to draft and his
- 19:24Speaker 2: law rosier And I was.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Yeah, because even as like the known Colorado Rockies, bats
- 19:30Speaker 1: lover as like just a way to find value in fantasy,
- 19:34Speaker 1: Like it's tough when you also pair with a thirty
- 19:36Speaker 1: percent k rate, because like the beauty of course field
- 19:39Speaker 1: and the beauty of the Colorado Rockies when they're at
- 19:42Speaker 1: home are guys who can put the bat on the
- 19:45Speaker 1: ball and just like let it find grass in the
- 19:48Speaker 1: largest outfield at altitude, and if you're whiffing at a
- 19:52Speaker 1: thirty percent clip, it's a lot harder to do that.
- 19:55Speaker 1: And so yeah, I think it's not a it's not
- 19:58Speaker 1: a bad like last bench piece to add in a
- 20:02Speaker 1: draft or someone to you know, put in as your
- 20:05Speaker 1: m I and NL only or something like that. But
- 20:07Speaker 1: beyond that, I just don't see also the Rockies being
- 20:11Speaker 1: able to shave Julian's k rate very well, because it's
- 20:14Speaker 1: not like it's a great development organization over the years. No, Okay, well,
- 20:20Speaker 1: let's get into a little bit of card news because
- 20:21Speaker 1: we've got two pieces. Well, I guess we do have
- 20:24Speaker 1: one other real baseball transaction to discuss, mostly because I
- 20:29Speaker 1: think he's about to enter dfa limbo the way that
- 20:32Speaker 1: Marco Luciano has this offseason, where I think, Lucy, what
- 20:36Speaker 1: is Luciano up to like seven ish teams at this point.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Lose every other day. He's does Simon, which I just
- 20:43Speaker 2: don't understand. Either you like him or you don't. Why
- 20:46Speaker 2: are you claiming him if you're just gonna designate him
- 20:49Speaker 2: the next day?
- 20:50Speaker 1: And it's kind of nuts that like a new team
- 20:52Speaker 1: will pop up and claim Luciano like every other day,
- 20:55Speaker 1: which is it's It's been fascinating.
- 20:57Speaker 2: I want to hope they sent him like a Jersey too.
- 21:02Speaker 1: I really hope that he gets to all thirty this offseason.
- 21:04Speaker 1: That would be amazing. Yes, But we had our boy,
- 21:08Speaker 1: our patron saint of baseball card collecting. Wade Meckler got
- 21:12Speaker 1: DFAD off of the Angels effort. We had reported he
- 21:15Speaker 1: got picked up the other week and honestly, the Angels
- 21:17Speaker 1: weren't a bad landing spot for him. But he is
- 21:20Speaker 1: back in DFA Lombo. Maybe he's gonna end up on
- 21:23Speaker 1: this Rockies roster here pretty soon. So uh, just a
- 21:27Speaker 1: shout out there, because Wade Meckler, if you don't know,
- 21:31Speaker 1: is a huge person in the baseball car collecting community,
- 21:34Speaker 1: mostly because of the everybody owns a Wade Meckler auto.
- 21:37Speaker 1: It feels like when his auto is inserted in twenty
- 21:41Speaker 1: twenty three products. This when I believe it was was
- 21:44Speaker 1: it four? I think? So okay, here is four four
- 21:47Speaker 1: four four yeah yeah, yeah yeah, because it was the
- 21:50Speaker 1: neon design on the flagship. So there's always seems to
- 21:54Speaker 1: be a guy like every year in tops products where
- 21:57Speaker 1: I don't they must just like have bullpen type arms
- 22:01Speaker 1: for autograph signing. And Wade Meckler was that man in
- 22:04Speaker 1: twenty twenty four. He was in every product and signed
- 22:07Speaker 1: a billion cards. He is a hero on the Reddit
- 22:11Speaker 1: Baseball cards threads, so everybody loves him. He's got a
- 22:15Speaker 1: great cult following because of that. We'll see where he
- 22:17Speaker 1: lands next piece of baseball news. We have also very
- 22:21Speaker 1: sad because man, look how they've butchered our boy. Stadium
- 22:25Speaker 1: Club is turning out to be a dud of a
- 22:28Speaker 1: release that looks like on the twenty twenty five product,
- 22:30Speaker 1: because not only are they cutting an auto in the
- 22:34Speaker 1: hobby box, I think it's the same price on the
- 22:36Speaker 1: hobby box or in the same range, but it went
- 22:38Speaker 1: from two hits to one hit, they've also cut the
- 22:42Speaker 1: parallel list like significantly. If you've been a longtime listener,
- 22:46Speaker 1: to this pod. You know that one of our favorite
- 22:49Speaker 1: sets that has come out, especially in the modern baseball
- 22:52Speaker 1: card release calendar, was Stadium in Club Chrome, and then
- 22:56Speaker 1: they took it back off the past couple of years,
- 22:59Speaker 1: especially when they like reevaluating and maybe getting rid of
- 23:02Speaker 1: Stadium Club altogether. I think there was enough pushback to
- 23:05Speaker 1: say we love Stadium Club, do not get rid of it.
- 23:08Speaker 1: And they still kept the chrome parallels, which are gorgeous,
- 23:11Speaker 1: like they are some of the best cards that have
- 23:13Speaker 1: come out of the product year and year out. Those
- 23:17Speaker 1: chrome cars are gone. They got rid of the chrome cars,
- 23:19Speaker 1: they got rid of the gold minted cards that go
- 23:21Speaker 1: with it. They really trimmed up the Stadium Club parallel
- 23:25Speaker 1: list on overall. I think partly because like they probably
- 23:29Speaker 1: just ran out a runway, like they're like, we gotta.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Sadly, I think like the way that they sent this
- 23:34Speaker 2: notice out to people who pre ordered, like oh, we
- 23:36Speaker 2: had a mistake in our package. He's like, no, you
- 23:38Speaker 2: ran out of time and you had to scramble or
- 23:42Speaker 2: somebody forgot to order the chrome chrome plates this time around,
- 23:45Speaker 2: or something like that. But this is this is disappointing.
- 23:48Speaker 2: It's almost like they wanted to was like, well, and
- 23:50Speaker 2: you know, go towards like heritage or something like that,
- 23:53Speaker 2: or even they still have some chrome, but like it's
- 23:56Speaker 2: not a card stock that can stand on its own.
- 23:59Speaker 2: I mean, the picture are amazing, but it's not. Oh man,
- 24:02Speaker 2: that chrome stulf.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Was so good, I know. I also wonder if the
- 24:07Speaker 1: pickup of the NBA contract has a factor in here
- 24:11Speaker 1: to you, because the NBA tops chrome product for this
- 24:14Speaker 1: year has been widely popular and I think they printed
- 24:17Speaker 1: a lot of it, especially with the Cooper Flag rookie cards,
- 24:20Speaker 1: so that might have been what caused the Axis Stadium
- 24:23Speaker 1: Club as well. But what a what a letdown, because
- 24:27Speaker 1: I mean I was looking forward to the pre order
- 24:29Speaker 1: on Stadium Club. I haven't bought much Hobby product in
- 24:32Speaker 1: a long time. I can't even actually remember the last
- 24:35Speaker 1: time I brought a Hobby product at retail because it's
- 24:37Speaker 1: just like we talk about it weekend week out, it's
- 24:41Speaker 1: tough sledding. And I was gonna do it finally for
- 24:44Speaker 1: Stadium Club until they rolled out the one lesson in
- 24:47Speaker 1: no chrome, Like at that point, what hits are you getting? Auto? Yeah?
- 24:55Speaker 1: And I mean the foil parallels or color parallels that
- 24:59Speaker 1: they do on the bay Stock have been I've been
- 25:02Speaker 1: a fan of the ones with the color background that
- 25:05Speaker 1: they've done recently. I don't they haven't been fully popular,
- 25:08Speaker 1: but if they're just also having like the foil ones
- 25:11Speaker 1: where they would just like change the stadium club foil
- 25:14Speaker 1: to a different color, like those don't hit. And so yeah,
- 25:18Speaker 1: it's gonna be tough because also I'm not a big
- 25:22Speaker 1: fan of this twenty twenty five Stadium Club design personally.
- 25:25Speaker 1: I think it's a little it just doesn't fit. It's
- 25:28Speaker 1: not my vibe, I think, And so it's a it's
- 25:31Speaker 1: a tough one because they totally whiffed on my favorite
- 25:35Speaker 1: product that comes out every year for twenty twenty five.
- 25:38Speaker 1: So just kind of wanted to put that out there. Otherwise,
- 25:41Speaker 1: in the Baseball card release calendar, we've got just a
- 25:43Speaker 1: few updates that it looks like we've finally had Museum
- 25:47Speaker 1: Club Collection get on the calendar officially for February sixth.
- 25:52Speaker 1: We've also got Bowman's Best slated for a TBD. The
- 25:55Speaker 1: pre order should be up on tops dot com, but
- 25:58Speaker 1: I mean it's all point in tur We've got Top
- 26:01Speaker 1: Series one coming on February eleventh, that's where all systems
- 26:05Speaker 1: are heading right now. Twenty twenty six products are going
- 26:08Speaker 1: to be rolling off the I mean they're probably already
- 26:11Speaker 1: off the printing presses, but they're gonna be hitting these
- 26:13Speaker 1: shelves prey soon.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely will. And you know there's that's gonna be
- 26:17Speaker 2: the go to product. But I would be shocked if
- 26:19Speaker 2: some of these twenty twenty five products slip or even
- 26:22Speaker 2: miss a beat here just because they've they've clearly run
- 26:26Speaker 2: the printing presses hard.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, totally, And like I said, that NBA license
- 26:31Speaker 1: isn't going to help things going forward. So it's going
- 26:33Speaker 1: to be fascinating to see what the twenty twenty six
- 26:36Speaker 1: schedule kind of stretches to because on top of it,
- 26:40Speaker 1: you know there probably will be something maybe Olympics and
- 26:45Speaker 1: World Cup related as well coming out too. So we've
- 26:48Speaker 1: got a lot of big events coming out and who knows,
- 26:51Speaker 1: like how many NBA set's tops is going to start
- 26:55Speaker 1: creating now that they have the license that I could
- 26:58Speaker 1: really see them expanding that line as I think it's
- 27:01Speaker 1: been doing really well for them from a financial perspective.
- 27:04Speaker 1: With special with these Cooper flag rookies are hotter than
- 27:08Speaker 1: anything else out there in the market right now. Okay, Well,
- 27:12Speaker 1: with that, we're going to wrap up the news and notes.
- 27:14Speaker 1: We're going to take a small break, and we'll be
- 27:16Speaker 1: back on the other end to talk at the al
- 27:18Speaker 1: Least preview with our boy, Marmo's Dad aka Matt Frank
- 27:23Speaker 1: aka mister top one hundred pitchers himself from Rasball. Stick
- 27:27Speaker 1: around everybody, all right, Welcome back everybody. We're going to
- 27:46Speaker 1: get right into our ale Least preview, and it's not
- 27:49Speaker 1: an ALIAS preview without inviting back Matt Frank slash Marmo's
- 27:55Speaker 1: dad as you might know him on Rasball. As we
- 27:57Speaker 1: get into our al Least pre you he's back again
- 28:01Speaker 1: for his third time, you know, one of the ogs
- 28:04Speaker 1: of putting together these previews with us. Welcome back, Matt.
- 28:07Speaker 1: How you doing.
- 28:09Speaker 3: I'm doing great, Thanks so much guys for having me
- 28:12Speaker 3: super pumped to be here and three times. That's must
- 28:16Speaker 3: be doing something right. I'm really really excited to be back.
- 28:20Speaker 3: I know I listened to your your pod. I think
- 28:23Speaker 3: it was a few a couple months ago with Kilan
- 28:26Speaker 3: and I think she and I are running for the
- 28:29Speaker 3: lead as far as the number number one guest here.
- 28:34Speaker 3: As far as time goes. But it's she said, as well,
- 28:38Speaker 3: good companies, so absolutely.
- 28:40Speaker 2: I think he probably blew the budget on Chris Towers
- 28:42Speaker 2: last week and so he got go with mad.
- 28:46Speaker 3: It's Canadian exchange too, so it's even cheaper for you guys.
- 28:49Speaker 1: It's all good.
- 28:50Speaker 3: You sent me a couple Jim Horton's gift cards and
- 28:52Speaker 3: we're ready to rip.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, perfect, perfect, Well, yeah, we will maybe
- 28:57Speaker 1: get those in the mail and you know, just look
- 29:00Speaker 1: out for them.
- 29:01Speaker 3: I gotcha, all right, Matt.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Let everybody know where they can find you on socials,
- 29:05Speaker 1: read your work and just kind of connect with you overall.
- 29:08Speaker 3: Soh yeah, like you said, the handle is Marmo's dad,
- 29:12Speaker 3: m a r MS dad. That's at Blue Sky for
- 29:17Speaker 3: the most part. Still over on the other one a
- 29:18Speaker 3: little bit here and there, and I do Monday's top
- 29:24Speaker 3: one hundred starting pictures right now. We're calling trust and
- 29:26Speaker 3: I are calling it just preseason starting pictures because I
- 29:29Speaker 3: don't have the list done yet. I don't want to
- 29:31Speaker 3: jump in front of Gray because his starting Pitcher post
- 29:33Speaker 3: should be coming out either end of this week or
- 29:35Speaker 3: maybe early next week. So I'm doing that on Mondays
- 29:38Speaker 3: and Gray asked if I do some hockey stuff over
- 29:41Speaker 3: the hockey season as well, So I'm over on that
- 29:43Speaker 3: side doing Tuesday night recaps of the NHL action for
- 29:47Speaker 3: Viz and for Gray on that side, so keep him busy,
- 29:51Speaker 3: and yeah, you can see me on Usually it's late
- 29:54Speaker 3: Tuesday night early Wednesday morning that those ones come out,
- 29:56Speaker 3: so I'm over there as well on the hockey side.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean your top one hundred pictures ranking
- 30:05Speaker 1: is invaluable. You put in so much work. It is
- 30:08Speaker 1: some of the most exhaustive writing I think I've ever
- 30:11Speaker 1: seen that You cover it all. So from one exhaustive
- 30:15Speaker 1: writer to another, much respect. And also you're probably the
- 30:19Speaker 1: number one fantasy baseball holiday right writer slash poet of
- 30:24Speaker 1: all time. So you always come out with your Night
- 30:27Speaker 1: Before Christmas Little Diddy that goes through all the rhymes
- 30:33Speaker 1: of baseball and rasball throughout the year. So it's not
- 30:37Speaker 1: a holiday season without that.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Thanks guys. I think I've done three now for rasball itself,
- 30:44Speaker 3: and it's just something I started the one year and
- 30:46Speaker 3: I said to Gray, what do you think. He's like, yeah, hey,
- 30:48Speaker 3: let's do it up. Okay, So then last year money
- 30:51Speaker 3: all right, we'll do it again and yeah, so it's
- 30:53Speaker 3: a lot of fun, something a little bit different. So yeah,
- 30:56Speaker 3: give everybody a little bit extra around Christmas time, just
- 30:59Speaker 3: to get a little bit of the taste of baseball
- 31:01Speaker 3: back in the most type thing.
- 31:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and to get those baseball writing engines up in REVD.
- 31:07Speaker 1: So we are speaking here on January twenty eighth, So
- 31:11Speaker 1: keep that in mind as we run through this preview
- 31:13Speaker 1: that if you know, there's a signing like from Bravalde's
- 31:16Speaker 1: lands on one of these teams wasn't considered. But I
- 31:18Speaker 1: think we've got a lot of teams here within the
- 31:20Speaker 1: Ale East that are probably pretty settled from a transactional
- 31:23Speaker 1: standpoint overall, although I mean Faltez probably will fit in
- 31:27Speaker 1: pretty well to this first team. We're about to discuss
- 31:30Speaker 1: the Baltimore Orioles because we are going to run through
- 31:33Speaker 1: this division alphabetically the way that I sort my baseball cards.
- 31:37Speaker 1: And the Orioles here, I mean, they finished last last
- 31:41Speaker 1: year in twenty twenty five with a disappointing seventy five
- 31:43Speaker 1: and eighty seven record, was carried by mostly a banged
- 31:48Speaker 1: up gunner. Henderson caused that a banged up Jordan Westburg
- 31:51Speaker 1: cause that a banged up Adleie Ritchman caused that, as
- 31:54Speaker 1: well as just the total lack of spending on the
- 31:57Speaker 1: starting rotation. Now Baltimore has gone out and corrected a
- 32:01Speaker 1: few of those areas that you know, hopefully they've got
- 32:04Speaker 1: some of those guys coming back healthy. But they've also
- 32:06Speaker 1: made a big splash finally with Pete Alonzo coming on board.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Traded Grayson Rodriguez for Taylor Ward and then also made
- 32:14Speaker 1: some moves on the pitching side to babile shore up
- 32:17Speaker 1: that side. They brought in Shane Baz in a trade.
- 32:21Speaker 1: They also signed Ryan Helsley to anchor the back of
- 32:23Speaker 1: that bullpen. So we've got lots of bits and bobs
- 32:26Speaker 1: here throughout the Baltimore Orioles as I mean, they're gonna be,
- 32:30Speaker 1: I think, right in the running for the division again,
- 32:32Speaker 1: because even though the rotation is still maybe a little
- 32:35Speaker 1: bit lacking, it's certainly much stronger than it was last year.
- 32:38Speaker 1: So lots of great fantasy assets and maybe some landbines
- 32:43Speaker 1: on this squad too. So I should also preface that
- 32:46Speaker 1: we're going with NFBC data from January first ish, at
- 32:50Speaker 1: least that's what I'm looking at. Through the end of
- 32:52Speaker 1: January to see where we've got buys and cells looking
- 32:55Speaker 1: at draft champions. So keep that in mind too, because
- 32:57Speaker 1: it will skew saves a little bit and not quite
- 33:01Speaker 1: be as big on maybe some of the other kind
- 33:06Speaker 1: of prospects and things that you might consider and in
- 33:10Speaker 1: leagues where you can make transactions. So those caveats kind
- 33:15Speaker 1: of put down on the on the on the table here,
- 33:17Speaker 1: Matt for you, where are you going to go in
- 33:20Speaker 1: Baltimore for your buye?
- 33:22Speaker 3: All right? So I did. I went with the NFBC
- 33:25Speaker 3: defaults until I took a look at the rundown here
- 33:28Speaker 3: that you had and I thought, oh, geez, I better
- 33:31Speaker 3: better change it to this since January first with the dcs.
- 33:34Speaker 3: So what you're saying about the especially about the closers,
- 33:36Speaker 3: I saw some of those ones that were pushed way
- 33:39Speaker 3: up high. So a lot of mine are based on
- 33:42Speaker 3: the default but there's a lot of them that would
- 33:45Speaker 3: be I mean probably would be around us ranking anyway.
- 33:49Speaker 3: So my bye, I tried to stick with some of
- 33:51Speaker 3: the starting pitchers because that's what I'm writing about. For
- 33:55Speaker 3: the most part, I went for my buy with I
- 34:00Speaker 3: think what is the de facto Ace in Baltimore. Now
- 34:02Speaker 3: that Grayson Rodriguez is gone with mister Kyle Bradish.
- 34:08Speaker 1: I like it. I mean I wouldn't be surprised Brew
- 34:12Speaker 1: is Kyle Bradish hereby as well. I know you've been
- 34:14Speaker 1: a big Kyle Bradish guy. He is not.
- 34:16Speaker 2: But I fully endorsed the buy, like I didn't go
- 34:19Speaker 2: there just because I think. I think the draft price
- 34:23Speaker 2: has raised a little bit more than I had expected
- 34:25Speaker 2: it to be, but I don't think it's in a
- 34:27Speaker 2: bad spot at this point. I think he has been
- 34:30Speaker 2: nails literally every time he's been on the Diamond, and
- 34:33Speaker 2: like from a pure guts perspective, this guy will pitch
- 34:36Speaker 2: no matter what, and so I don't have any any
- 34:39Speaker 2: qualls about this. I think he's a fantastic target this year.
- 34:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I said the price is right exactly what you said.
- 34:45Speaker 3: The price right now is okay. I think you guys
- 34:49Speaker 3: would agree any player that you kind of are looking
- 34:52Speaker 3: at and thinking, Okay, this is a guy that I'd
- 34:54Speaker 3: like to target. If the price gets too high, it's
- 34:57Speaker 3: like all right, that changes from a bye to okay
- 35:00Speaker 3: maybe depending on my build. But no spoilers, but he's
- 35:05Speaker 3: not in my top ten. But he'll show up in
- 35:08Speaker 3: the next ten I think, which as an sp twenty one.
- 35:13Speaker 3: It looked like on the NFBC ADP he's going right
- 35:17Speaker 3: behind Dylan Ceese, Jesus Lozardo and just before I think
- 35:22Speaker 3: it was Spencer's Schwellenbach. So there are some in there
- 35:27Speaker 3: that I would prefer, or I would prefer Bradish over
- 35:31Speaker 3: some of them, like Schwellenbach. I'm not sure if I'd
- 35:34Speaker 3: rather have him or British. I think I'd rather go
- 35:36Speaker 3: with Bratish. I think there's a lot of people that,
- 35:39Speaker 3: depending on what they're listening to and what they're doing
- 35:41Speaker 3: as far as research goes, in some leagues, he might
- 35:44Speaker 3: not even be really thought of as being the top
- 35:47Speaker 3: guy just because he only had six starts last year.
- 35:49Speaker 3: So if you've got some casuals that are looking at
- 35:52Speaker 3: numbers and saying, oh, well, he didn't really do much
- 35:55Speaker 3: last year, it's just because he only had those six
- 35:58Speaker 3: starts after he came back to the Tommy Johnson surgery.
- 36:01Speaker 3: But they were solid starts, thirty two innings. He only
- 36:05Speaker 3: let gave up twenty three hits, ten walks, forty seven
- 36:09Speaker 3: k's and thirty two innings and the ratios were solid
- 36:11Speaker 3: two fifty three RA and a one oh three whip.
- 36:14Speaker 3: I'll take that all day. I have him actually for
- 36:18Speaker 3: cheap in my ale keeper league, so he's one that
- 36:22Speaker 3: I'll hold on to. Had him for a dollar last year,
- 36:24Speaker 3: so he'll be six this year. So that's that's a
- 36:26Speaker 3: guy that I'm gonna going to hope is one of
- 36:29Speaker 3: my driving forces on that squad.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think this is a great call
- 36:34Speaker 1: because he is going right. And we discussed this territory
- 36:37Speaker 1: a little bit last week when we were talking Spencer
- 36:40Speaker 1: Twellenbach because the price there, it's kind of a back
- 36:44Speaker 1: end one high number two sort of range. And I mean, yeah,
- 36:49Speaker 1: I like this call because Bradish did get back on
- 36:51Speaker 1: the mound last year put up a twenty nine point
- 36:54Speaker 1: four K minus BB. If he does that or comes
- 36:57Speaker 1: anywhere close to sniff and that he might be looking
- 37:00Speaker 1: at a guy who puts up Paul's Skien Slash Streak
- 37:03Speaker 1: Schooble type numbers like that is an otherworldly K minus
- 37:07Speaker 1: BP for a starting pitcher. And I mean, I think
- 37:10Speaker 1: you'll probably see some regression. We'll be pushed closer down
- 37:13Speaker 1: to where he was in like the low twenties previously.
- 37:17Speaker 1: But yeah, I think this is a great call that, like,
- 37:19Speaker 1: I feel better about Kyle Bradish than they do Spencer
- 37:22Speaker 1: Swollenbach because he did get back on that mound last.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Year and he felt kind of like this year looking
- 37:28Speaker 3: at him and coming back from injury and having that
- 37:31Speaker 3: kind of like, oh, well, like he's not one hundred
- 37:33Speaker 3: percent and there's there's that injury kind of risk floating around,
- 37:37Speaker 3: but just looks like he could take the next step.
- 37:40Speaker 3: Last year, that guy for me was Brian Wu. So
- 37:43Speaker 3: I even thought, you know what, like this could be
- 37:45Speaker 3: kind of like a Brian Wu type guy. If he's
- 37:47Speaker 3: shaving a bit off that walk rate, if he can
- 37:49Speaker 3: boost the strikeout rate a little bit higher, that's I mean,
- 37:53Speaker 3: I'm in on that all day. I'll mention Wu later
- 37:55Speaker 3: on too, because I can't get away from that guy
- 37:58Speaker 3: because I love him. But but that's that was my
- 38:01Speaker 3: thinking when I was looking at Kyle Bradish.
- 38:03Speaker 1: I'm also that is that's how you say, Brian woop.
- 38:06Speaker 1: When I'm reading your piece, I imagine you're always like Brian.
- 38:10Speaker 3: Yes, sir, all right away from those gifts either, I'll
- 38:15Speaker 3: tell you.
- 38:15Speaker 1: That number one gift I think on your phone, right.
- 38:20Speaker 3: It's fantastic.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Yeah, brew who's your buy for the orioles? Yeah? So,
- 38:25Speaker 1: I like I said, do you like bradish? But I'm
- 38:27Speaker 1: gonna go to another guy.
- 38:28Speaker 2: I kind of got a little man crush on here,
- 38:31Speaker 2: and that is outfielder going three oh eight a d
- 38:34Speaker 2: P Dylan Beavers. I am a big Dylan Beavers fan.
- 38:39Speaker 2: I think there's a little risk complaining time here because
- 38:42Speaker 2: I'm also a big fan of Tyler O'Neil this year
- 38:45Speaker 2: going in and I look at this as Oriels lineup there.
- 38:48Speaker 2: They do have four outfielders, but I just don't believe
- 38:51Speaker 2: in Colton Cowser and honestly Taylor Ward too too much,
- 38:55Speaker 2: and between injuries and platoons and stuff, these guys are
- 38:59Speaker 2: all gonna play. Dylan Beavers, you know, he had a
- 39:02Speaker 2: cup of coffee last year and you know thirty five games,
- 39:06Speaker 2: hit four homers, stole a few bases, didn't hit for much.
- 39:09Speaker 2: But if you look under the covers, this is a
- 39:11Speaker 2: guy that has always hit for power and he's grown
- 39:14Speaker 2: into it more and more. He's always stolen bases at
- 39:17Speaker 2: a relatively effective rate. You know, he stole last year
- 39:21Speaker 2: in Triple A. He stole twenty three and got caught
- 39:24Speaker 2: five times a year before thirty one got caught three.
- 39:27Speaker 1: He knows what he's doing on the base paths, and.
- 39:29Speaker 2: He's you know, nearly top twenty percentile and sprint speed,
- 39:33Speaker 2: so he's he's going to make it, make it happen.
- 39:36Speaker 2: And the other thing, Yeah, for love, he's improved his
- 39:39Speaker 2: play discipline was every single year. He's now walking almost
- 39:42Speaker 2: as much as he strikes out in the minors. Again,
- 39:44Speaker 2: all these things can regress as you get there. But
- 39:47Speaker 2: we're talking a guy that I think can hit two
- 39:49Speaker 2: seventy and can be a twenty twenty guy if given
- 39:51Speaker 2: them the full opportunity, and we're drafting him like he's
- 39:54Speaker 2: going to be a bench warmer. So I'm all in
- 39:57Speaker 2: on Dylan Beaver's. I think people are gonna be surprised
- 39:59Speaker 2: by the guy. Think, you know, he's passed guys like
- 40:02Speaker 2: Kobe Mayo and you know, Jordan Westberg and all those
- 40:05Speaker 2: kind of guys in that system, and they're gonna give
- 40:07Speaker 2: him a full run. So give me some Dylan Beaver's.
- 40:09Speaker 2: He's gonna be pretty much every team I have this year,
- 40:12Speaker 2: and I think he's gonna carry some some folks ahead.
- 40:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I think this is that's a great call. I mean,
- 40:17Speaker 1: you've got to Dylan Beaver's lovers here. We talked about
- 40:20Speaker 1: him in our preview last year. I mean, I think
- 40:22Speaker 1: maybe the one thing that like I would add is
- 40:26Speaker 1: the walks just keeps the consistency high. And like, yeah,
- 40:29Speaker 1: when you're in a platoon with Tyler O'Neal, you're soon
- 40:32Speaker 1: going to be having an Emmy day job with Tyler
- 40:34Speaker 1: O'Neal on the IL.
- 40:35Speaker 3: So yeah, well he's gonna bench press five hundred and
- 40:38Speaker 3: eighty three pounds and pop something again. So but I
- 40:42Speaker 3: will tell you, guys, and this is for anyone out
- 40:44Speaker 3: there that might doubt, for I don't know why they would,
- 40:47Speaker 3: but I wasn't even as familiar as you two are
- 40:50Speaker 3: with Dylan Bieber's and it was last year this pod
- 40:53Speaker 3: that we did that I was like, Okay, maybe I
- 40:55Speaker 3: should dive into this guy a bit more when you
- 40:56Speaker 3: guys are talking about him. And I picked him up
- 40:59Speaker 3: in my al only on the reserve list, and I
- 41:02Speaker 3: picked him up in my mix league. And when he
- 41:06Speaker 3: was called up and hit the ground running almost literally,
- 41:09Speaker 3: I thought, Okay, this is awesome. And he yeah, exactly
- 41:12Speaker 3: what Bruce said, like and boat while and then Mike
- 41:14Speaker 3: when he said about the walk right too, he I
- 41:17Speaker 3: think already has the skill. And I mean it's a
- 41:21Speaker 3: small sample size as far as compared to some of
- 41:23Speaker 3: these other guys that have had a little more plate appearances.
- 41:25Speaker 3: But and I don't want to get into my cell
- 41:27Speaker 3: but I will tell you that, uh that name might
- 41:30Speaker 3: have been already mentioned. It's not Dylan Beavers. I'll tell
- 41:33Speaker 3: you that, but it's a little tiny coming up. Yeah,
- 41:37Speaker 3: all right, all right.
- 41:38Speaker 1: Cooley, where'd you go? Uh So, Yeah, we're all starting
- 41:42Speaker 1: off with different picks here to begin with. I'm going
- 41:44Speaker 1: with the new guy in town in that outfield, Taylor
- 41:46Speaker 1: Ward as my bye. Currently he is going around eighty
- 41:50Speaker 1: p of one sixty five ish one sixty ish right now,
- 41:56Speaker 1: but the low is only one thirty four, and our
- 41:58Speaker 1: player raider for the twenty twenty six season projections Taylor
- 42:02Speaker 1: Ward's number one twenty, which I think is right because
- 42:05Speaker 1: it puts him right in the range of Michael Harris,
- 42:09Speaker 1: the second Roman Anthony, which we'll get into, Stephen kwan Ian,
- 42:14Speaker 1: Halp Jerks, and Profar like that's nothing special, but like
- 42:19Speaker 1: a ten eleven dollars player, which essentially that's all you're
- 42:22Speaker 1: paying for, and Taylor Ward, if you're paying that cost,
- 42:25Speaker 1: apparently you're ahead of market. I will take that. I
- 42:29Speaker 1: think if anything, the projections are probably low on his
- 42:33Speaker 1: runs in RBI. This is a guy who is able
- 42:35Speaker 1: to put up eighty six runs one hundred and three
- 42:37Speaker 1: RBI last year with those thirty six bombs in the
- 42:40Speaker 1: middle that disastrous Angels out lineup. He's got the protection
- 42:44Speaker 1: now from all the stars up and down the oorial lineup,
- 42:47Speaker 1: from Gunnar Henderson and Pete Alonzo Adleie Richman. I don't
- 42:51Speaker 1: see any reason why Ward won't be playing every day.
- 42:54Speaker 1: If anything, they might even end up using him at DH.
- 42:57Speaker 1: You know, if they run into a situation where they
- 43:00Speaker 1: need to start moving Samuel Posio behind Catcher more if
- 43:04Speaker 1: Reshman goes down, they'll open up that outfield. I think
- 43:08Speaker 1: by putting Ward at DH.
- 43:09Speaker 3: And yeah, I.
- 43:11Speaker 1: There's just the profile has been what it is the
- 43:14Speaker 1: past few years, and I think it's a It's like
- 43:16Speaker 1: a taoscar Hernandez like set it and forget it. Thirty
- 43:20Speaker 1: homers eighty to eighty five runs an rbipiece with like
- 43:23Speaker 1: a two forty average and that plays all day in
- 43:26Speaker 1: all sorts of fantasy leagues. Okay, let's get into these souths. Oh,
- 43:31Speaker 1: you gotta what do you think about Taylor Ward.
- 43:34Speaker 2: I'm gonna have to say I I'm not sure I
- 43:38Speaker 2: buy Taylor Ward here. He's a two twenty hitter. He
- 43:41Speaker 2: actually had worse underline metrics last year than he did
- 43:44Speaker 2: in twenty four when he hit only twenty five homers
- 43:47Speaker 2: and managed two forty six. So I'm a little concerned.
- 43:51Speaker 2: He had a massive spike last year in his home run
- 43:53Speaker 2: for fly fly ball rate, and that really cared him through.
- 43:56Speaker 2: If you look at his bass speed, it's poor. It's
- 43:58Speaker 2: like a fifteen percentile. So there's some red flags here,
- 44:01Speaker 2: and so I think that's baked into the price. I'm
- 44:04Speaker 2: not saying that it's not a guy that's worth owning,
- 44:07Speaker 2: but I get a little there's enough warning signs here
- 44:09Speaker 2: with Taylor Ward that I just I feel icky having
- 44:13Speaker 2: on my team. And that's a very technical term of
- 44:15Speaker 2: you if you don't know here ras ball, but I'm
- 44:18Speaker 2: not loving it. So I want to disagree a little bit.
- 44:21Speaker 2: I'm not selling him by any means, but I think
- 44:23Speaker 2: there's a little bit under the hood.
- 44:24Speaker 1: You gotta be careful with the Taylor Ward. I mean,
- 44:26Speaker 1: if it might help sway you. Here are the outfielders
- 44:30Speaker 1: going around him in ADP right now. You've got tay
- 44:34Speaker 1: Oscar Hernandez, Noel Vie Marte, Kyle Stowers, Andy Pajas, which
- 44:38Speaker 1: I don't quite fully get. Give me sturs all day. Yeah,
- 44:42Speaker 1: I love Kyle Stowers chaka Marcy, who I know we love.
- 44:44Speaker 1: But then you're talking Brandon Nemo going to Texas in
- 44:48Speaker 1: that just like Death Dome. Lawrence Butler's in this range too.
- 44:53Speaker 1: He's probably gonna be my bye when Cad tay All West,
- 44:55Speaker 1: which is here, Brenton Doyle's in this range, Alex. It's
- 44:59Speaker 1: such a weird one cruise it is. I like literally
- 45:02Speaker 1: half that group, but I hate half that group. It's
- 45:04Speaker 1: like your third outfielder. And so that's I think why
- 45:07Speaker 1: I'm in, because as a third outfielder, you do need
- 45:09Speaker 1: some steadiness. And I know Taylor Ward's playing every day
- 45:12Speaker 1: for the Baltimore Orioles like there's gonna be an injury,
- 45:15Speaker 1: and I don't see the bottom falling all the way
- 45:17Speaker 1: out on Ward as part of it too.
- 45:19Speaker 3: No, I assume Joe adel is like one hundred and
- 45:21Speaker 3: fifty picks higher than that, is that.
- 45:23Speaker 1: He's actually on the as your top one hundred right now.
- 45:26Speaker 1: I think I was looking last week because I was like, oh, Bruce,
- 45:30Speaker 1: gonna have the same conversation we talked about Joe Adella.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Then just remember when the game cocky he is the
- 45:36Speaker 2: technical term.
- 45:37Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, right now at Joey Dela.
- 45:41Speaker 3: Oh my, poor Joe. Good thing I got him in
- 45:44Speaker 3: some of these keeper leagues because I don't. Yeah, that's
- 45:47Speaker 3: a whole other story for a whole other day.
- 45:49Speaker 1: All right, Well, let's sell some orioles. Matt, who you
- 45:51Speaker 1: selling from the Baltimore Orioles.
- 45:53Speaker 3: I will tell you, mister Brewer, you set it up
- 45:56Speaker 3: for me, and I'm gonna knock it off by saying that, Uh,
- 45:59Speaker 3: there's a lot of with one of the guys, in particular,
- 46:04Speaker 3: I had him in a mixed league last year and
- 46:07Speaker 3: the thirty five point six percent k rate is no,
- 46:11Speaker 3: thank you, it's mister Colton Kowser. I yeah, no thanks.
- 46:21Speaker 3: Uh the seven and a half walk rate last year
- 46:23Speaker 3: not that great. It's he's predicted for a little bit
- 46:26Speaker 3: higher by Steamer. I think it's like nine point seven percent.
- 46:28Speaker 3: But you said brew I think you said it in
- 46:31Speaker 3: your hit or profile on the last it's just this
- 46:35Speaker 3: last week and you've mentioned it again here. There's so
- 46:38Speaker 3: many outfielders that are going to be competing for time.
- 46:42Speaker 3: I think your first three there are probably Tyler O'Neill
- 46:46Speaker 3: if he can stay healthy, and then Beemers and Warder
- 46:49Speaker 3: far ahead of Kowser. Just the contact is not where
- 46:55Speaker 3: it needs to be. They've got Leodi Taveres, who I
- 46:58Speaker 3: think can play better de ands out there in centerfield
- 47:01Speaker 3: if need be, so I don't think so. Like I'm
- 47:06Speaker 3: gonna the average looks like it'll be a big time drags.
- 47:09Speaker 3: So he's in that. They have him down for expected
- 47:12Speaker 3: average in the first percentile on stockcast.
- 47:15Speaker 2: Ah No, that's like the only guy I've ever seen
- 47:19Speaker 2: expected to average supporting a one ninety six bat average.
- 47:22Speaker 1: It's rough.
- 47:24Speaker 3: It's really rough. I'm sorry if Grandma Cowser is listening
- 47:26Speaker 3: to this, but I'm sure he's a nice dude. But
- 47:29Speaker 3: I'm gonna pass if that's an option for me my drafts.
- 47:32Speaker 1: I think it's a great call, Like if they're counting
- 47:34Speaker 1: on him to play center field, I'm also concerned about
- 47:38Speaker 1: just the stam enough actor for Colton Kowser. This dude
- 47:41Speaker 1: is not a center fielder, and if they're going to
- 47:43Speaker 1: force him to stretch in center field, that's gonna push
- 47:46Speaker 1: me further. And I think that also puts that lineup
- 47:49Speaker 1: spot in jeopardy even more because like, if he can't
- 47:52Speaker 1: cut it in center and they need to break a
- 47:53Speaker 1: different center fielder in Hello bench, Colton Kowser, yep, brew
- 47:59Speaker 1: who's your se from the Oreels.
- 48:01Speaker 2: Well, I that's almost got me convinced I need to
- 48:03Speaker 2: change to Colton Cowsler because I agree.
- 48:05Speaker 1: So much with that one.
- 48:06Speaker 2: But I'm gonna go I'm gonna pull one from your
- 48:09Speaker 2: book here, Cooley, and I'm gonna go to the new
- 48:11Speaker 2: guy in town, and I'm gonna sell Pete Alonzo. Okay,
- 48:15Speaker 2: and I I is this is not to Denigratee Pete Alonzo,
- 48:20Speaker 2: but he's going off the board as a second round
- 48:23Speaker 2: pretty much. He's twenty fifth overall and for a guy
- 48:27Speaker 2: that has a profile that's probably a two fifty hitter
- 48:29Speaker 2: with no speed.
- 48:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I get he.
- 48:32Speaker 2: Can hit fifty bombs and you know, get a little
- 48:34Speaker 2: bit of help here and there. I don't I Baltimore.
- 48:37Speaker 2: I think is gonna be a little worst ballpark for him.
- 48:39Speaker 2: It's the date on that ballpark so funky, it's it's
- 48:42Speaker 2: kind of hard to tell at times all the changes
- 48:44Speaker 2: they made to it. But he definitely had some luck
- 48:47Speaker 2: last year. Things all came together, the best baby BIP
- 48:50Speaker 2: of his career by pretty pretty wide margin. Because he
- 48:53Speaker 2: is no Blazer. So a three or five babip is
- 48:56Speaker 2: nothing to like, you know, be like, oh, that's great,
- 48:59Speaker 2: but fort has two seventy career babip. That's that's a
- 49:02Speaker 2: pretty pretty good hike. And so I think we're looking
- 49:05Speaker 2: at guy hits two fifty steals zero bases, and hits
- 49:08Speaker 2: forty homers, and like, compare that to what you just
- 49:11Speaker 2: said about Taylor Ward. That's not that terribly different. And
- 49:16Speaker 2: we're talking about a basically top two round drafting, Like
- 49:19Speaker 2: if we were talking where he's you know, has been
- 49:20Speaker 2: the last few years, coming off of forty homer seasons,
- 49:24Speaker 2: and like, I just don't the average like boost him.
- 49:27Speaker 2: When all of a sudden he was hitting two seventies
- 49:28Speaker 2: seat of two forty. He was going in the fourth, fifth,
- 49:31Speaker 2: sixth round even at that point in time, and you
- 49:34Speaker 2: were talking about Hi as a top forty hitter, and
- 49:37Speaker 2: all of a sudden, we're treat him like borderline, top ten,
- 49:40Speaker 2: top fifteen, and that's just nothing changed in this profile,
- 49:44Speaker 2: Like get he plays every day, but literally nothing changed
- 49:46Speaker 2: except for a little luck. I'm out on it. It
- 49:48Speaker 2: just feels the price is too high. Give me it
- 49:50Speaker 2: two rounds later. I'm I'm game.
- 49:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I would be all over that same kind of
- 49:55Speaker 3: thing too. You've I think we we've all said it before.
- 49:58Speaker 3: If you're going top two rounds, you need to cover
- 50:00Speaker 3: as many of those categories as you can. You need
- 50:02Speaker 3: to get I mean, you might get a guy that
- 50:05Speaker 3: will go twenty five, twenty five with a decent average.
- 50:08Speaker 3: I'll take that over forty bombs with a lot crummy
- 50:12Speaker 3: or average, and I'm gonna have to try and make
- 50:14Speaker 3: up with a Stephen Kwan later on, or anybody that
- 50:17Speaker 3: is contact or contact first contact only. Then you're starting
- 50:20Speaker 3: to frankenstein a roster together, and it's like, oh man,
- 50:24Speaker 3: you feel like you're chasing after categories and it's not
- 50:27Speaker 3: a good way to start, let alone. I mean, if
- 50:29Speaker 3: you get halfway through a draft and you're like, Okay,
- 50:31Speaker 3: I gotta pick up whatever to supplement something else. Sure,
- 50:35Speaker 3: but like you said, if he's going twenty five overall,
- 50:38Speaker 3: and I totally agree with you with that.
- 50:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I'm there too. It's too rich. Especially
- 50:44Speaker 1: right behind him in the ADP is Trey Turner and
- 50:47Speaker 1: Zach Neetto and like how do you see those sitting there?
- 50:49Speaker 1: And like I mean I even told James Wood and
- 50:53Speaker 1: I would take James Wood over in.
- 50:56Speaker 2: Like yeah, there's just upside and floors all all around.
- 51:02Speaker 3: Yeah, And I think like as a like a regular
- 51:05Speaker 3: baseball player in Baltimore, it's gonna be huge. I think
- 51:08Speaker 3: Gray mentioned it. You might have said it too, the
- 51:10Speaker 3: idea of like this is their biggest bat at first
- 51:13Speaker 3: since Chris Davis, it's gonna be Yeah, it'll be big time.
- 51:18Speaker 3: But but from a fantasy perspective, Nah, that's too rich
- 51:21Speaker 3: for my blood.
- 51:22Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, well I've got a different sell. Mine is
- 51:25Speaker 1: Jackson Holiday second baseman. So mostly it's because like I
- 51:30Speaker 1: think what we saw from Jackson Holiday last year is
- 51:33Speaker 1: Jackson Holiday. I don't know how much better it gets
- 51:36Speaker 1: unless he proved he proves that, like he can swing
- 51:39Speaker 1: the bat faster, Like if you do see his bat
- 51:41Speaker 1: speed increase, but it's very mid and it's kind of,
- 51:45Speaker 1: you know, if anything below mid. But last year he
- 51:49Speaker 1: played one hundred and forty nine games, six hundred and
- 51:51Speaker 1: forty nine played appearances, went seventeen seventeen, seventy runs, fifty
- 51:55Speaker 1: five RBI two forty two three fourteen three seventy five
- 51:58Speaker 1: slash line. I think that's about what he is and
- 52:02Speaker 1: what you're doing when you're drafting him. Right now, he's
- 52:05Speaker 1: going off the board around pick one P forty on
- 52:09Speaker 1: our player Raider. Going into next year, it's one seventy nine,
- 52:13Speaker 1: and our Player Raider is built off of like a
- 52:15Speaker 1: modified Steamer. But you can also see it in the
- 52:18Speaker 1: projections when you're on fangrafts. All of them are just
- 52:22Speaker 1: kind of counting on a little bit more of what
- 52:25Speaker 1: he did last year with a tick up in less
- 52:29Speaker 1: playing time, And I just don't get it. Like when
- 52:31Speaker 1: you kind of put together the entire profile, you see
- 52:34Speaker 1: the hard hit rate, you see the barrel rate last
- 52:36Speaker 1: year at seventeen seventeen. If you paid that price, I
- 52:39Speaker 1: think you would probably be taking him around like one
- 52:41Speaker 1: to eighty. You've got to be projecting pretty significant growth
- 52:45Speaker 1: if you're going to be going for Jackson Holiday over that,
- 52:47Speaker 1: and I know second base is terrible. It is an
- 52:50Speaker 1: absolute black hole this year. But I'm not going to
- 52:54Speaker 1: waste my second base pick by paying up beyond what
- 52:58Speaker 1: the actual kind of like mark or rate should be
- 53:01Speaker 1: on Jackson Holiday just because he was the number one pick,
- 53:04Speaker 1: he had all the hype, and you're trying to project
- 53:06Speaker 1: growth on him because you look at this event page,
- 53:08Speaker 1: you look at the underlying metrics, there's he is who
- 53:11Speaker 1: he is.
- 53:14Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just just man, it's desolate a second base.
- 53:18Speaker 2: That's my only argument against you here is like you're
- 53:20Speaker 2: going like, well, I mean, I mean, I'll give me
- 53:22Speaker 2: Luke Kishaw all day after him, or yes, you know,
- 53:25Speaker 2: there's a number of guys I'll take the game wile
- 53:27Speaker 2: Matt McClain bounce.
- 53:28Speaker 1: Back or my boy Auto Lopez from last week. Auto
- 53:31Speaker 1: Lopez is going seventy picks later and he's the same
- 53:34Speaker 1: player as Jackson Holiday.
- 53:36Speaker 3: I was there with Kemp too.
- 53:38Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely so.
- 53:41Speaker 3: I think that's the thing, like you said, when you're
- 53:42Speaker 3: dealing with like say fifteen fifteen or seventeen seventeen, like
- 53:46Speaker 3: you said, and the average is not two eighty plus
- 53:50Speaker 3: like lock it in type thing. There's you could argue,
- 53:56Speaker 3: there's a lot of other mid kind of middlelane fielders
- 54:00Speaker 3: that you could go, Okay, you know what, I'm not
- 54:02Speaker 3: reaching for this when I can. It sounds really silly
- 54:04Speaker 3: because I know a lot of people say, well, you
- 54:06Speaker 3: could get this one hundred picks later and whatever guy
- 54:09Speaker 3: for anything really, but but it's not like he's stellar
- 54:14Speaker 3: in any one or two categories like you said, right,
- 54:17Speaker 3: it's all kind of just flatline right now. Young enough, yes,
- 54:22Speaker 3: and the pedigree is there, so maybe he does put
- 54:25Speaker 3: it together. But like like you said, Coolly, it's you
- 54:28Speaker 3: almost would want to see like something like the contact
- 54:31Speaker 3: rate that stands out at a barrel rate withs like
- 54:33Speaker 3: oh yeah, like something's common and there's no shining light
- 54:36Speaker 3: that's like, oh wait a second from that whole profile.
- 54:41Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, the one thing I would watch is
- 54:43Speaker 1: bat seat speed in season, Like if he does start
- 54:45Speaker 1: picking it up, then I have faith that he can
- 54:47Speaker 1: start pushing like twenty five fifteen sort of numbers and
- 54:52Speaker 1: then that's when that next level come. But until he
- 54:54Speaker 1: shows that where he's at in terms of bat speed
- 54:57Speaker 1: and hard hit rate and everything, you've got to see
- 55:00Speaker 1: a growth level. Okay, well, let's get into the Boston
- 55:04Speaker 1: Red Sox now. So they finished a distant third in
- 55:10Speaker 1: the division last year five games out, eighty nine and
- 55:12Speaker 1: seventy three went to the playoffs. And I mean, I
- 55:16Speaker 1: think they've had a pretty solid offseason. I think all
- 55:19Speaker 1: things considered, they did lose Alex Bregman, but they also
- 55:23Speaker 1: went and rated all the leftover stars from the Saint
- 55:27Speaker 1: Louis Cardinals, bringing in in separate trades Wilson Contraras and
- 55:30Speaker 1: Sonny Gray. But they've also brought in Ranger Suarez one
- 55:34Speaker 1: hundred and fifty dollars signing million dollars signing there to
- 55:37Speaker 1: the rotation. And I mean they've got lots and lots
- 55:41Speaker 1: of arms coming through the system where it's it's an
- 55:46Speaker 1: embarrassment of riches. I think at the end of the
- 55:47Speaker 1: day that you do wonder if maybe they're going to
- 55:50Speaker 1: consolidate some of it to bring in another bat or two,
- 55:52Speaker 1: but if they also get growth out of some of
- 55:54Speaker 1: their young dudes like Roman Anthony, Jaron Duran, Marcel Mayer,
- 55:59Speaker 1: even some buddy like Christian Campbell on a bounce back.
- 56:02Speaker 1: I mean it's a pretty solid team. So I think
- 56:04Speaker 1: you're looking at probably another ninety ish win team. But
- 56:07Speaker 1: with all those things considered, Matt, who is your buy
- 56:10Speaker 1: for fantasy from the Boston Red Sox.
- 56:13Speaker 3: You said it there like the Al East is not
- 56:15Speaker 3: getting any weak or anytime soon, and they have been
- 56:18Speaker 3: strong for a really long time. I know I'm kind
- 56:20Speaker 3: of a homer because I'm up here, but I went
- 56:23Speaker 3: I was looking at Ranger Suarez, and I thought a
- 56:28Speaker 3: couple of times when I kept searching through that list
- 56:31Speaker 3: the ADP, and I was like, where the heck is
- 56:33Speaker 3: this guy? I might have gotten this wrong, but I
- 56:37Speaker 3: counted all the way down to like SP fifty three,
- 56:40Speaker 3: and I was like, that can't be right. The min
- 56:43Speaker 3: max picks were ridiculous. Minimum of one seventeen, max of
- 56:47Speaker 3: two fifty six. Like, talk about a range there. I
- 56:51Speaker 3: know that stack cast pages aren't the be all and
- 56:54Speaker 3: end all, but this one was like, Wow, he is
- 56:57Speaker 3: eighty fourth percentile or higher in actually right average exit
- 57:04Speaker 3: V low. He's ninety fifth percentile. His walk percentage was
- 57:09Speaker 3: eighty sixth percentile, his pardon me, his barrel rate eighty
- 57:15Speaker 3: ninth percentile. A hard hit percentage was ninety eight percentile,
- 57:19Speaker 3: Like I don't know why he is kind of pushed
- 57:24Speaker 3: down as much as he is right now. If he
- 57:28Speaker 3: is going as low as he is, I'll I'm in
- 57:30Speaker 3: on that all day. If he's going at that kind
- 57:33Speaker 3: of price point.
- 57:35Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think you also put him in Boston
- 57:37Speaker 1: with that great development system. Maybe they find another pitch,
- 57:40Speaker 1: they find another tweak. I've loved Ranger for the past
- 57:44Speaker 1: couple of years because it's it's so steady. It's so steady,
- 57:47Speaker 1: great teams. He pitches deep into games, get wins if
- 57:49Speaker 1: you're in five by five rod O. Those types of
- 57:51Speaker 1: guys are hard to find.
- 57:52Speaker 3: Yeah. And the ground ball rates up, he's said he's
- 57:55Speaker 3: a seventy six percentile and ground ball rate the weak
- 57:58Speaker 3: contact rates, like people aren't black the ball off the
- 58:02Speaker 3: bat off of him. So I mean, you don't have
- 58:04Speaker 3: to worry too much about being in Fenway if people
- 58:06Speaker 3: aren't hammering the ball. So yeah, that's a solid SP two.
- 58:12Speaker 3: Or I mean, if you want to say Sonny Gray
- 58:13Speaker 3: is a two, because I know you guys are Sonny
- 58:15Speaker 3: great fans too, maybe an SP three. That's that's yeah,
- 58:19Speaker 3: that's I'll take it.
- 58:21Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Brew. I mean I don't even know
- 58:23Speaker 1: if I have to ask your by.
- 58:26Speaker 2: Go ahead this is this might be the most predictable
- 58:29Speaker 2: segment that we have.
- 58:31Speaker 3: So it's fond grissom, isn't it?
- 58:32Speaker 1: No?
- 58:32Speaker 3: But he's not there anymore, so you can't say him no.
- 58:35Speaker 1: Because well, honestly he's mine too.
- 58:38Speaker 2: Go for it, all right, So let's go ahead and
- 58:40Speaker 2: buy Sonny Gray.
- 58:42Speaker 1: There is because you know.
- 58:45Speaker 2: You called out Matt Lake. Yeah yeah, rags wars like him.
- 58:48Speaker 2: The only thing that kind of draws me back and
- 58:49Speaker 2: puts me to Gray over I still like Suarez is
- 58:52Speaker 2: the link that he's gonna go into games and the
- 58:54Speaker 2: opportunity to get for wins because for doesn't have as
- 58:56Speaker 2: much stamina. The thing with Sonny Gray is last year
- 59:00Speaker 2: he kind of had a rough go of it and
- 59:02Speaker 2: it was almost all luck not playing with the defense
- 59:05Speaker 2: do what should be hind him. And then when he
- 59:07Speaker 2: got traded to Boston. I swear the Boston fans thought
- 59:11Speaker 2: this guy was literally like retirement material like Jamie Moyer.
- 59:15Speaker 2: I don't know what it was like. They could not
- 59:18Speaker 2: stand this move, like we need a number two and
- 59:20Speaker 2: I'm like, you got like a borderline one like and
- 59:23Speaker 2: then they were treating him like it was a four
- 59:24Speaker 2: or a five, like I just couldn't believe it. And
- 59:26Speaker 2: then I go back and look at the numbers and again,
- 59:28Speaker 2: guys last year walked less than two guys per nine,
- 59:32Speaker 2: which was incredible, striking out more than ten per nine. He's,
- 59:37Speaker 2: you know, a little got a little Homer unlucky last
- 59:39Speaker 2: year year. But Beba was up, the left on base
- 59:43Speaker 2: was down like all those things that are these fringe
- 59:46Speaker 2: luck things. And if you look on the covers, it
- 59:48Speaker 2: was the exact same guy for the last like five
- 59:50Speaker 2: to six years. And then you look at where it's
- 59:52Speaker 2: that in the ADP, and I'm like, it is like
- 59:54Speaker 2: Minefield at that point in time the ADP, and I
- 59:58Speaker 2: want nothing. I want nothing to do with that except
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: for if there's a guy that you can draft, plug
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: him for one hundred eighty innings two hundred k's fifteen
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: wins and have to worry about it at all. And
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: that's Sunny Gray. So I've been the truther for many,
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: many years, and I'm gonna continue on that train.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: It's just too easy.
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: I don't understand why Sony Grad doesn't get more love,
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: and I absolutely love the guy. I'll be frank I
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: traded him in our lead this year more because of
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: his age and where things were going in a keeper format.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: But from a redraft perspective, man, this guy is a
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: He's an ace under an SP three mask.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: Yeah, Like last year, more than more than a handful
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: of times I call he's like mister underrated. I don't
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: know what it is. There's some guys that are like
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: I don't really want them. Don't know if it's just
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: because he's not all that flashy. But I will say
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: one thing that the first article I sent out, which
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: is kind of like a recap all the off season moves,
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: I did put the clip in there of Nessen talking
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: to him about like, are you excited to be a
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: IT Sucks player now? And I will tell you I'm
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: a Bruin fan too, so I know some of these
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: Bostonians fairly well as far as a fan fan hood goes.
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: And they any of them that were like, ah, we
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: don't really want Sonny Gray around here, I'll tell you
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: they the moment he said yeah, I'm looking forward to
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: crushing the Yankees because I hate them, I was like, okay, yeah,
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: that's gonna win over everybody in that town. For sure.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: Yeah, so he definitely had a rough go, but when
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: he was in New York for sure for many reasons.
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: And he's got a chip on his shoulder still this day.
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: Oh oh, they'll be standing up for him first pitch
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: for sure. Yeah yeah.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: And I mean the reason that Gray was mine by
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: it gets a little bit into I'm starting to notice
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: that market weakness and like that number two ish starting pitcher,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: And if you want somebody who is set it and
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: forget it, Sonny Gray will be that. You know, you're
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: starting to get some arms up in there, like Nolan
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: McLain and other kind of rookie type players. I mean,
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: I think Tray Savage will probably get there eventually, and
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: you're also looking at Cam Schlitzler kind of being around there.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: But if you want something that really brings something steady
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: to your rotation, you can't go wrong with Sunny Gray.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: And I mean he's gonna go deep enough for wins.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: Which is it. I'll keep harping on it because it
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: sounds like it's a stupid thing to keep harping on.
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: But a guy who can constantly go out there and
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: get like quality starts and convert them into wins as
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: opposed to some of these kind of newer, up and
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: coming pictures where you're not sure if they're going to
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: make it through five. It's huge in a five y
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: five rodo good time. All right, let's get into stells.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: So Matt, who's yours?
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: All right? This one? I'm still sticking with the pictures,
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: but we're going nice out to the arm barn for
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: this one. I said, this guy's stack cast is retter
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: than Snoop Dog's eyes after an early breakfast. But I'm
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: not going anywhere near a rold As Chapman this year.
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: He had a ridiculously spectacular year last year. It probably
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: sound a little silly, but I think it was Tim McCleod.
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: I heard him say in the offseason. He's a thirty
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: eight year old closer. He said, Yeah, he had a
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: great year last year, but have a look at the
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: three years before that. Ikes. So I did do that exactly.
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: Took the twenty twenty one to twenty twenty four. The
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: strikeouts per nine was huge, but he had just shy
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: of a six walks per nine and his home run
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: to fly ball was thirteen point eight. It's a little
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: bit of an ouch there, I think too. So that's
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: a little bit of both here. I don't want to
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: pay up for a top closer like that guy. I'd
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: rather go with somebody else that I feel might be
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: a little bit more reliable. And I don't know, maybe
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: I'm still stuck on someone like Garrett Whitlock. I think
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: he might get a little bit of time out there
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: if a roll disc goes down with an injury and then, Mike,
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: you said it early here on our way into Boston.
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: There are so many arms in that system. I know
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: you want to keep starters starters as long as you can,
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: but could you imagine a dude like Peyton totally coming
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: out of that bullpen and being a closer, Like Holy,
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: how cool would that be? I mean, cool doesn't win
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: you fantasy leagues, but it would be pretty sweet. And
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: they've got so many kids like you just need space
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: for some of them. So I mean, maybe it's just
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: a pie in the sky type thing. But I don't
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: trust to roll this, and I think even guys like
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: Cutter Crawford coming back, I don't know, Maybe he goes
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: down with an injury and then you've got you got
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: your pick of a handful of guys that could probably
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: slot back there and be effective. So that's where I'm
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: looking as far as getting away from Chapping at that price.
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think it's very And I think the
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: other thing to keep in mind is that, like it
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: was a career year last year, but the strikeout rate
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: has dropped, so it's not like the heyday of Rolds.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: Chapman where you could get triple digit strikeouts from your
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: closer and you'd pay up for it, And so there's
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: I think there's probably some blending in people's minds of like,
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: career year last year, he strikeouts, but if he's more
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: of the twelve k per nine, I think he's a
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: great closer. But yeah, it is a very rich price
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: to be using a third round pick on a world
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: as Chapman right now, So very fair brew. Who's your
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: pick for yourself?
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: Well, I think we're just gonna try to talk about
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: every Red Sox picture in the segment to see if
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: we can get through and where we land. And I
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: talked about him. It's gonna be Peyton totally for me.
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: And it's not because of the talent. It's because of
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: the situation and as you look at the depth that
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: they've brought on. They have a full, full rotation there,
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: and then they have some of the guys that they
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: love to kind of mess around with and try to
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: figure out what to do, like the cut of Crawfords
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: of the world, and clearly brought in Johann Oviedo to
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: try to take a place. Honestly, I think Condley Early
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: is more well suited to get work before Totally. I
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: think Totally might have the better upside, and I think
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: he does exactly what Matt suggested. I think he's in
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: the bullpen this year midway through the season, and he's
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: pumping that nasty fastball, seventy five grade fastball up there
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: and doing nasty things, and then he's gonna be in
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: the starting rotation, you know, the next year. I really
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: do think he's got long term capability, but I think
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: it's gonna be something where the opportunity is not going
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: to pay off. And the folks have been kind of
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: drafting him based on the potential that he breaks that rotation,
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: and I just see only a minuschool chance that actually
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: happens early in the season, and then late in the season,
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: like I said, he there's a lot of innings last
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: year for a guy that was thrown through the miners,
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: and so I think he's gonna be a guy that
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: they need to baby and protect, and then he's going
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: to be a bullpen weapon for them as they get
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: towards the playoffs.
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: So I think that's yeah, all very fair. I like it. Okay,
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: I'm a little surprised that I'm the only one selling
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: this guy. I'm stilling Roman Anthony currently average ADP of
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: sixty four. So you're paying us like a fourth round
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: pick on this dude. Yeah, what am I missing?
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: This is?
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: He's a twenty ten two seventy five ish bat. I
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: think he had a good run with the batting average
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: last year, but even you look at what he was
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: pacing for, he's not putting up thirty homers unless something
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: changes in that launch angle and he starts hitting it
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: in the air more than he does right now. I
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: will give him credit. He hits it really hard. It's
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: really great. Uh, but the stone bases aren't going to
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: be there. The the volume of power is just not
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: going to be there. The runs will probably be fair,
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: but like woo, buddy, wooa buddy, you're you leaving yourself
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: no upside. If you're taking Roman Anthony in the fourth
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: round because like, you're paying the tippy tippy top of
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: that outcome. I think already that you're already expecting him
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: to increase that barrel rate, You're expecting him to increase
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: that launch angle, and that is absurd. It is when
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: I saw that draft price, I was just like, I
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: love Roman Anthony, but like, am I thinking of a
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: totally different player than everybody else in these drafts right now?
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: Because that is you're talking like Roman Anthony superstar, like
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: James Wood superstar. If you're taking him up in that
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: range like brew, what am I missing from your top
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: one hundred hitter analysis?
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: So I actually almost went there, and then I started
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: digging to Roman Anthony, and I liked a lot more
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: when I saw because exactly what you just said, do
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: you know who he reminds me of? James Would And
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: he has all the same characteristics that the way he
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: hits the ball that doesn't power doun I get this steal,
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: But James Wood shouldn't either for the half the time.
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: And Anthony can hit, will hit for a better average
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: than what Wood will. And I think there's the difference
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: is you're waiting like three rounds later for a pretty
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: similar profile. So I'm not saying I'm buying Roman Anthony,
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: but I see the case that he's the risk is
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: not nearly what it was with a guy like James Wood,
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: and that's a red as I'll get red stat cast
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: can be. So I think there's still issues with it,
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: but I can easily see this being a guy that
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: does hit two eighty hits, twenty twenty five homers, ekes
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: out ten steals maybe fifteen, and scores a ton ton
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: of runs. So I think there's value there. Is it
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: that level of value at that draft price. It's it's
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: a little high, but like I said, I look at
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: it and it's not too far off of James Wood,
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: who's going multiple rounds earlier. And that's why I like,
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: I put a little bit of brakes on my on
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: my cell there. I'm not disagreeing with you, but I
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: think that there's there's there's a reason people are going
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: there because it like you can easily dream on the
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: guy that's twenty one years old.
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: I think that's the biggest part of it. I think
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: there's yeah, there's so many people that are worried about
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: missing that opportunity to plant the flag before he really
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: pops off, and then you see it. Guy. I know
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: James would kind of faded a little bit this second
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: half last year, but everyone wants to be the one
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: to say, oh, yeah, I was in on it. Yep,
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: I got him, and it just I mean, like you said, Mike,
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: I don't know how much more snowballs, like in the
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: top fifty.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: Maybe, but his midpick is forty six.
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: That's wild.
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: I think he's a top fifty hitter, like, yes, not
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: a top fifty draft pick like it's probably and I
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: have it's kind of like Matt, I intentionally don't do
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: my hitter rankings until later this season when everything's else
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: is out and I'm not reading every real stuff. I
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: just kind of wait and then actually put them together.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: And I think that it's he's going to end up
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: in that top forty ish range is probably where it's
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: going to rain because there's a ton of potential there.
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: But the draft pick price right now is it's deep.
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: It's thirty seven pitter off the board. Yeah, it's just
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: a little above, and I think it's going to keep rising.
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: I think so too, which is why I'm also like
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: selling it even more because it's like, do not ball
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: for this rap?
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: Like his his stack cast similar hitters. I'm gonna ignore
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: the first one, which is Brian Reynolds, but I think
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: that's the next very it is, but his like James Wood,
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: Ronald Ronald Acuna and Radhaield Evers, so like he surprises me. Yeah,
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: and so like I think that and Sean Murphy's the
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: other one. So I mean, I think good, good version
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: Sean Murphy. But like I think that there's the profile
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: is pretty got started solid. I just don't think that
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: the huge upside like I see, I don't. I just
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: struggle seem to take a big leap this year.
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's. Uh that's where I'm at too. Okay, well,
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: let's move on to the hated New York Yankees, who
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: tied for this division last year but lost on the
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: tiebreaker to those Blue Jays went ninety.
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like it's just like a knee jerk reaction.
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: When I hear anything like that, I'm like, yeah, that's right.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: The Buzzy's come back from the twenty twenty five season there,
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: and uh yeah, this team almost they are just reracking
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: it fully pretty much where exact same team that they
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: took to those ninety four wins last season. But you know,
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: the few tweaks that you're going to be making, they'll
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: be getting Garrett Cole back at some point a couple
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: months into the season. It does look right now like
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: Jose Cabiero is probably gonna take over shortstop as Anthony
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: Volpi still recovering from shoulder surgery in the offseason. And
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: then otherwise we've got David Bednar locked in for a
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: full year at a closer right now, and we've also
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: got I forgot about Ryan Weathers, the Ryan Weathers trade
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: totally kind of I lost it in the shuffle of
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: everything from last week. But maybe that's the one big addition.
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: I mean, they won ninety four games last year. You
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: can't really fault them for going back, I think and
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: just kind of being like, yeah, this team works and
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: we'll just see what happens in the playoffs once again. So, Matt,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: I know you're probably in the one of the biggest
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: Yankees hater camps because just of not only are you
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: the Blue Jays man, but you've also got some of
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: those Bostonian sports ties as well. But quick, all that
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: I'm going to force you to find a buy on
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: this roster.
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: I'll tell you, imagine if I had a buy that
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: was Ryan Weathers. Imagine that this one was for cool
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: A because I know Wepp loves them some stormy weathers there.
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: So yeah, I'm gonna say Ryan Weathers. As far as
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: a Bye goes this one with a giant asterisk, it's
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: going to be hopefully the health holds up. Last year,
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: there was a lot of us that were like, yes,
- 1:13:38Speaker 3: I can't wait to see this guy go in Miami,
- 1:13:41Speaker 3: and he started out great and then boom, he just
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: like physically blew up and that was it. So right now,
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: he's the one hundred and twenty ninth pitcher in NFBC ADP.
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: I counted down ninety four starters before I got to him,
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: and I thought, what the what is that I did
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: my homework, gentlemen. I actually have a quote from some
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: guy named Mike Cooliard from last week and he said,
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: if they can get this guy to one hundred and
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: fifty innings, he could really take off. And I said
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: to myself while I was listening, you know what, Mike,
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: You're totally right. That's what I would agree with. For sure,
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: he's rank lower than Garrett Cole, and hopefully he pitches
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: more innings, he'll be on the mound before Garrett Gole
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: will be. And he's ranked lower than a bunch of
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: these rookie kids that we've already mentioned from different teams
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: that have a little bit more risk from a lack
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: of experience standpoint. I mean, I know, the easiest pole
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: to poke there is that the health is a question mark.
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: But he's right between two other names that I like
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: as deeper kind of I don't know if there's such
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: thing as a sleeper anymore, but deeper picks Brax and
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: Ashcraft from Pittsburgh and Ponts. So those were two names
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: that he is like right in the middle of on
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: NFBC ADP at four eighteen overall, I'm gonna roll that
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: dice all day. I think you guys mentioned this kind
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: of thing last week when you were talking to Chris
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: in the NL East One. A guy that's around four
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: eighteen overall. If he flashes out or is hurt, then yeah,
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: you can drop that and replace that from whatever. I'll
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: take that ninety seven mile an hour fastball as long
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: as his arm holds up. Yeah, And it's funny because
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: that could even be if David does what we know
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: he can do to the bednar, then h may like
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: Weathers might even end up back as a closer at
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: some point if they're worried about his arm holding up.
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: So I'll take it. Yeah, four eighteen. Slide that guy
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: onto as many rosters as I am drafting, please.
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's fair. I mean the one capiat
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: with Weathers is like, don't go all high risk for
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: your front end pitching and then take it David Weather
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: or Ryan Do I say David Weather's the first time.
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: David We ok?
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean Ryan Weathers obviously, but don't take him
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: if you've already got a lot of risk, no your
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: risk profile. But if you can fit Weathers in after
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: you've built a little bit of a solid rotation and
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: gotten some innings that you can lock in, fantastic pick.
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: I love it.
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: David, David Ryan might might pitch the same number of innings.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: So that's the only that's the only qualum here that's
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: modern pitching.
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: Baby, Yep, that's a giant asterisk. Yeah, almost as big
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: as Berry bonds asterisk, but not as big as cal rallies. Wait, no,
- 1:16:37Speaker 3: never mind, true.
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: Who's your buye from the Yankees? All right?
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: Well, you know I really like to be the outlier
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: of do things different and disagree with the industry, and
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: I can't do it this time. I have to go
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: with the obvious, obvious guy.
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: And it's been Rice.
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: I get where, like, looks like man's going so high.
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: Like the guy hit twenty six bombs last year and
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: five hundred and thirty played appearances and everything that he
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: does was just absolutely amazing. He's not a good catcher,
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: but he has catcher eligibility, and you know, Boons already
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: said he's gona play more against lefties this year, and
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: under the covers like, yeah, he didn't have for a
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: great averages lefties, but he's still mashed homers off of him.
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: And so you look at the catcher landscape and it's
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: Kyle Rally and then a big old gap and then
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: all these other guys, and I just look at it.
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: I'm like, he's gonna have catcher and first base eligibility
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: most likely, and you know he's gonna be in the
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: lineup almost every day because of you know, DH, because
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: gen Carlo stantonill hurt himself probably tomorrow, and I I
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: just look at him, like, there's not a prettier cast
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: out there for this guy. And we've talked about him
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: for two years, about how mature of a hitter he is,
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: and it just keeps looking better and better. So like,
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: I know that he's going relatively high, but I just
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: don't see the downside, and I like it. It's not
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: hard to look at this guy and be like, is
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: this like a young Joey Vada to a degree? And
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: this is a thirty five forty Homer guy one hundred
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: and ten RBIs hitting two eighty Like maybe not quite
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: Vado from a pure Walks perspective, but like, I think
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: he can end up walking in the fifteen percent range
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: as he gets more mature. So I know everyone's loving them,
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: but I feel if there's still room in this draft
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: price and it's it's not really that risky.
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean I the same thing happened to
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: me when I was looking at this list, and I
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: was like, oh, I kind of want to sell Ben
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: Rice because it feels like it's getting too hot, but
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: it's not it. I mean, this is what we were
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: dreaming about when Kyle Schwarber was coming up as a catcher.
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: You've got it now in Ben Rice, like he is
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: Kyle Schwarber with catch you eligibility right now. Honestly, probably
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: keeps it. I think he catches enough games.
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: I think they're going to use him as that kind
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: of back I think so just keep you know, when
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: when there's spots in the lineup, because that's a pretty
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: stacked lineup, so they want to keep him, keep him fresh,
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: and keep him the lineup put in different positions. He's
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: going easily catch you know, twenty thirty games.
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: And as a lefty in that park, that's like you're
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: just asking for with that kind of power. It's just ridiculous, Like, yeah,
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: I know that. That's the biggest thing is is how
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: much are other people are going to jump ahead of
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: where you're willing to go. It was I think it
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: was Joe orco. I saw today put a photo out
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: of one of the drafts that you had going and
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: there was someone drafting over the twelve spot and they
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: took Gunner at the end of the first round, and
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: on it at the turn they took Ben Rice.
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: I saw, I saw that tweet. I thought you see it?
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: Oh my, And at first.
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: I looked at like, what's wrong with this draft? I'm
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: like this because the rest of the team looked absolutely fine.
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: But I, okay, well, there's you could have waited a
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: few rents.
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: But it makes me think of those those years, which
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: are not too long ago. There might still be some
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: people that are thinking the same way where they're like, oh,
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: I need to get a catcher. And it was like
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: those sal Perez years where people are taking him the
- 1:20:03Speaker 3: second third round and I was like, oh, man, I
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: don't know, but but if there's hey, if there's somebody
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: that's that's worth it, like you said, other than cal Rally, yeah, yeah,
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: I like him. I have him on my my mixed
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: league team too. And it's funny because I had him
- 1:20:17Speaker 3: as like a backup, kind of like a first basement cornerman,
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: and then when they started throwing him back behind the plate,
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: I was like, oh, this is beautiful because I only
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: have a we only have a five game eligibility in
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: that one, so even I mean a lot more than that,
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: but yeah, I like that one a lot.
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: All right. I honestly like I had a little bit
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: of a tough time finding a bye because like, there
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: were so many good options usually it's not like that
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: with the Yankees. There's usually a huge Yankees sacks. I
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: feel like there's a lot of good opportunities on this
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: roster compared to where it's been to where like I mean,
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: I'm also looking at like the ADP, Like there's a
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: couple of drafts where like Judge won't go second, that's stupid,
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: like I.
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: Did just because like exactly he has to be number two.
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, He's the easiest number two ever, Like if
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: you get the number one or two pick, like just
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: just stop being cute. Just But I also I love
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: I think Max Freedz at a decent price. Cam Schlitzer's
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: decent price. So it's a cave Yaro Grisham, Gen, Carl Stanton,
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: even Weather's the one guy that maybe I you've noticed
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: I skipped in there running down Cody Bellinger. It is
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: for me mostly because like you take last year's season,
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: it was thirty six overall on our player raider worth
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: about twenty three bucks. You can almost just set it
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: and forget it. As Cody Bellinger's line, I think for
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: the next two to three years in Yankee Stadium with
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: these New York Yankees twenty nine homers, eighty nine runs,
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: ninety eight RBI, thirteen stolen bases two seventy two average.
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: That's Cody Bellinger and Yankee Stadium on the Bronx Baramers
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: on the Bronx Bombers. That's a top forty to fifty guy,
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: like I said, came in thirty six last year and
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: our play raider. The ADP is starting to creep up
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: because he was obviously drafting because he hadn't signed, but
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: still only at ninety one average ADP men of seventy six,
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: And there's probably some drafts that are going on right
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: now that like, because it's a slow draft, the men
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: will start coming down. But until that men starts coming
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: down to like the fourth fifth round.
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: I'm in yeah, I like that one too. He was
- 1:22:23Speaker 3: one that I mean, I know the Blue Jays had
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: a lot of Kyle Tucker smoke this offseason, but he was.
- 1:22:29Speaker 3: He's been one for the last few years that I've
- 1:22:31Speaker 3: been saying, like, please, they needed a lefty bat. He's
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: that kind of guy that, like you say, when he
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: did the Bash Brothers thing and he messed up his shoulder,
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: he had a pretty bad rut there for a bit.
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: But that's obviously healed, and he is back to that
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: old La Dodger kind of production, which is solid again.
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: Another big lefty in that park, you can't really go wrong.
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, let's get onto those cells. So Matt,
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: who's yours.
- 1:22:59Speaker 3: I'm glad that we don't have a whole lot of
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: anybody else that's live here, because that's might make some
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: people angry and I might have to dodge some tomatoes.
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: But it's not because I don't like the player. But
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: Cam Schlitzler is my cell just because of yeah, just
- 1:23:13Speaker 3: because of the draft cost and the hype train I
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: feel is chugging at full speed down the tracks. That
- 1:23:19Speaker 3: the kper nine is ridiculous. He if he would have
- 1:23:23Speaker 3: had enough innings to qualify, he would have been in
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: seventh in the entire league, ten point three six kper nine.
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: So it sounds like I'm marguing with myself because that's
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: kind of what I do sometimes, But he is. It's
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: more about where he's going. And Mike, you mentioned that
- 1:23:38Speaker 3: that little pocket SP thirty four and NFBC ADP the
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: fastballs filthy. We all know that. But the hype's too
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: strong for me. There's I'd rather take the risk on
- 1:23:51Speaker 3: somebody else that I prefer. I think I said it
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: in my article on Monday, because I did write them
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: up as somebody that I was looking at. The miss
- 1:24:02Speaker 3: is right above him, Jake miss Zeroski, and right below
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: him is another one that I can't quit. And I'm
- 1:24:09Speaker 3: just gonna fall into that trap again, which is the
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: Nick Flodolo trap. I would rather go with those guys
- 1:24:15Speaker 3: just personal preference. Plus I mean I'm biased because I'm
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: a big Yankee guy. But Schlittherer, I think is going
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: to be really good. I just I would rather I'd
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: prefer to take one of those other guys over him.
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: I've got a similar cell with Tampa as well for
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: the same reason. But as of right now, it's it's
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: that kind of reasoning.
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: I think it's all fair. Yeah, But I also like
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: understand the draft price on Schlittler too, Like if you've
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: got a solid number, I mean, if you go something
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: where you get you know, a number one, then you
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: get I mean you could still get Sunny great and
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: Schlitzler maybe, but you know what I mean, Like if
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: you get some solid players and you need some strikeout upside,
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: I understand it. I watched him pitch in the playoffs.
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: It was incredible. So it's there. But I totally get
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: to sell as well.
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: I think you have to look at the kind of
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: spread on the draft price in this and then recognize
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: if you look at his stat line and just read
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: specific stats, you get two different players. You know, this
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: is a guy that would four and three walk nearly
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: four per nine and at an x era of four
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: to eleven, or it's also a guy that struck out
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: over ten per nine era of two ninety six and
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: really held luck and check right. You can tell whatever
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: story you want with a ninety eight mile hour fastball.
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: You can tell whatever story you want with him, And
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: I think that's kind of what's happening with him. And
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: you have to pick a side, and I think there
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: is to me, there's a little bit more risk of
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: a kind of guy like this in New York just frankly,
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: I think that the lights are hard to deal with there.
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: So I'm not buying or selling him, but I think
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: that there's a big, wide range of outcomes that we
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: can see with Cam s Laller.
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think so, all right, who's yourself for
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: the Inky s Brew.
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: It might make people unhappy with this one as well,
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: mainly cooly you.
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: But I'm selling David Bednar. I am too Price.
- 1:26:08Speaker 2: Just like he's the start of the cliff. He's the
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: start of the closer, the cliff if you look at it,
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: like I love every I think he's right for like
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: Kine Smith, like every I like every closer, and then
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: all of a sudden it's like Bednar and Chatman and
- 1:26:20Speaker 2: it's just like risk Glory. We're talking about the ye
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: he was. He was then just like Jettison for like
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: nothing and just backed into the closure role because literally
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: everybody else felt fell under the pressure. What's to say
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: he doesn't do the same thing. I just it just
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: doesn't feel great for that drift Price. So like he's
- 1:26:41Speaker 2: got talent, he's actually been great throughout his career, but
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: like it just doesn't feel right.
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm right there, and it's it's the average pick
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: of forty, which I mean this is a little bit
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: of like why I light the ground with like the
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: draft champions, because you do need to get your closers
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: early because like you need to lock them in people
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: chase them. But like, wow, that is a big time
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: pick to be using on David Bednar and like, just
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: let it chill.
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: I'm on that team as well. Yeah, no, thank you.
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: Okay, Well let's get onto those Tampa Bay Rays because
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: they will be moving back to the Trap this year.
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: So I think there's actually a lot of kind of
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: like wiggle room here with this team as we get
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: into twenty twenty six, because it should be. I mean,
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: the Tampa Park it played neutral ish, but like I
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: noticed when I was watching lots of games and it
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: showed up in the stat cast data two, I think
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: that like during the day it played as a hitters
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: park and at night it played as a pitcher's park
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: because of the way the winds blow down in Florida.
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: Now Tropicana is going to be a pretty stone cold
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: Pictures park for the Rays going forward again, mostly because
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: of that dome. I think the overhead lighting. It messed
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: with Willia Domas's mind, and I think messes with lots
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: of other people that come through there. Decent for homers though,
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: because of the that left field line. But the Rays
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: going back to the Trap, they finished in fourth place
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: in this division last year with seventy seven and eighty five.
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: I think they've got a tough season ahead of them,
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: especially mostly because of the division around them is just
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: so brutally good. They're gonna do their classic race thing.
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: They're gonna cobble together a bunch of pitching. They're gonna
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: put together a team around their one star player in
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: Junior Camonaro. As they've shipped out, you know, Josh Lowe.
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: They've got Gavin lux In, they brought in Cedric Mullens,
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: they brought in Jake Frayley, they brought in justin Henry Moloy.
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: It just kind of it's a it's a turning, turning
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: in and out carousel of folks in Tampa. As always,
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: our boy Stephen Mattz from the Cardinals ended up there. Currently,
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: Shane McClanahan is slot as the number three starter. I
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: will leave it when I see it, and let's get
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: into these buys and sells on the Tampa Bay Rays. Matt,
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: who's your bye? Yeah?
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: I just said, like, this is not your slightly older
- 1:28:57Speaker 3: brothers Tampa Bay Double Rays anymore. Loliss Lawless Lowless. There's
- 1:29:02Speaker 3: no Lows or Lows left at all. So it's kind
- 1:29:05Speaker 3: of sad. It's a whole new leaf in Tampa Land.
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: But I am going to say this is more because
- 1:29:13Speaker 3: of my extensive ale only league background that I just
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: can't shake this kind of thinking sometimes. But I'm going wheels, baby,
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: ninety seven percent tile and sprint speed at a twenty
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: nine point eight mister Chandler Simpson.
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: Myself, and I know, I know, I know.
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: I when I wrote it up, I was like, yeah,
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: it's the k percentage is a lead like and the
- 1:29:39Speaker 3: whiff rates like it's not there. So he's got the contact,
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: but he is is a one trick pony or two
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: tricks if you want to count the contact and the.
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: Speed there, the average is there.
- 1:29:50Speaker 3: I'll give you that, yeah, and that. And it's one
- 1:29:52Speaker 3: of those ones where I think Chris mentioned it last
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: week with was it justin Crawford where he's talking about
- 1:29:59Speaker 3: like speed and contact. So the caveat here is it's
- 1:30:04Speaker 3: it would be as a buy. It's not an outright by.
- 1:30:07Speaker 3: It's a build specific. If you've got one of those
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: gaps to fill and you find yourself in that kind
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: of spot in the draft, you're like, man, I need wheels.
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: I think this guy is going to steal a ton.
- 1:30:20Speaker 3: The walking is not there, but I mean, who needs
- 1:30:23Speaker 3: to walk? If you can hit, so he's not putting
- 1:30:25Speaker 3: them over the fence anytime soon, I don't think. But
- 1:30:28Speaker 3: he's going to burn and he's probably like Brew like
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: you said, he's the average will be there, so I
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: can see, I don't know, two seventy two eighty average
- 1:30:38Speaker 3: and a good chunk of steels, which in al only
- 1:30:41Speaker 3: is that's that's butter, but a mixed league. I mean,
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: depending on how deep your roster is, I could see
- 1:30:48Speaker 3: going somewhere else there, but it's for right now. I'm
- 1:30:50Speaker 3: sticking with it as a buy, build specific buy.
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: So I'm gonna go for school and then you go
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: next year. Because I don't not like Chandler Simpson that
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: double negat there. He He's he's very valuable. I do
- 1:31:06Speaker 2: think he could steal eighty or ninety bases. He's not
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: Luis Ariahs from the speed perspective where he's only got
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: one category because he will score runs, he will steal bases,
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: and he will hit for average, and so he's actually
- 1:31:18Speaker 2: a three category of value guy. He's an absolute zero
- 1:31:22Speaker 2: from power like RBIs is going to be kind of middling,
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: so there's there is actually value there. The problem with
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: Chandler Simpson because I actually own him in a league
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: and I plugged him in. He's going to be an
- 1:31:33Speaker 2: acething my sleeve. The problem is, if you want Chandler's
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: system symptom on your team, you have to build for it,
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: and then you could completely miss because somebody else will
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: buy him. And that's the problem with this profile is
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: if you're sitting here going, oh, I'm gonna go all
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: power early and pitching things like that, I'm gonna grab
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: Chandler simple, and later you're playing with fire buddy. Maybe
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: an auction draft is a little little less of an
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: issue there, but from a true like draft perspective, you
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: know he has as a wide wide hundred pick range
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: from his and people are going to get in a
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: spot where they made a mistake and they're gonna buy him.
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: So if he's part of your strategy, I think you're
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: in trouble. That's why he's my cell. I actually like him.
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: He's a better real world.
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: Player than you.
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: Also have the Tampa Bay Rays of this, which you
- 1:32:17Speaker 2: know they do weird things, so you have to.
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: That piece as well.
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: So I don't hate it, but I just can't commit
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: to buying it or I'm selling it just because I
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: think it really messes with your draft strategy.
- 1:32:29Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think people could probably argue about Steel's
- 1:32:32Speaker 3: being so much more common now that it's like those
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: super burners aren't as much of an outlier of Like, yeah,
- 1:32:38Speaker 3: I got to get one of those guys too, so
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: I totally get that part of it too. But yeah,
- 1:32:42Speaker 3: like depending on the built, Like if you can get
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: your buddy from the White Sox Markami, compair him with Simpson,
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: there you go. You've got a guy that's going to
- 1:32:51Speaker 3: back two oh one and hit twenty five homers, and
- 1:32:54Speaker 3: that'll make up for the other part.
- 1:32:56Speaker 2: I guess if your draft from Pee Alonzo twenty fifth overall,
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: you gotta get Chandlers something.
- 1:33:00Speaker 3: There you go.
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: Yeah, So I mean I actually I've still got even
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: additional points to bury Chandeler. Simpson with due did not
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: even hit a barrel in Triple A or the Majors
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: last year, so like that's the difference between him and No, Yeah,
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't have I don't either. Yeah, Justin
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: Crawford will pop Homer. So like that's why I don't
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: mind Justin Crawford as much because I think you'll probably
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: get six to eight homers from Crawford. It is a
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: fat zero from Chandler Simpson, like it is a zero.
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: The ground ball rate is so tremendous, like it's gonna
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: be he can't just he can't hit homers. I think
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: he's also not gonna stick in the majors like it
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: was an eighty eight WRC plus last year. That's where
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: all the projections have him for And if he played
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: amazing defense, he could do it. He he is awful.
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: He is maybe the worst outfielder in the league right now,
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: and he's got Jacob Melton breathing down this. I just
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: don't see how the Rays let Chandler Simpson play all season.
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: I think he's gonna end up in Triple A by June.
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: And at that point then like the steels aren't coming.
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: So it's like it's a it's a big gamble to
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: really throw in any draft any draft value for him,
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: because I think the bottom is way way way through
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: through the ground, and so I mean, yeah, I would
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: honestly like much rather have Justin Crawford almost at like
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: the same ADP, because like I know, I've got a
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: floor with Justin Crawford. There's no floor on Chandler Simpson.
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: It is gone m hm. So that's myself, not Sally's fair.
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: Ye, this might be the first time in our divisional
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: previews where we literally all picked the same guy.
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: But not on the same size. It might be yeah,
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: all right, well let's get back to some buying. Brew
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: who's your bye for the race?
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: I'm gonna stick in the closer category after my bednar hear,
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: and I'm gonna go Griffin. And I don't know that
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: we're guaranteed that Grifvin Jacks is the closer in Tampa,
- 1:35:05Speaker 2: but I think he should be. And I think this
- 1:35:08Speaker 2: is a guy that's been a closer in waiting for
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: a few years.
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: And if you.
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: Look, he struggled a little bit when he first came
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: over to Tampa Bay last year from Minnesota. But I mean,
- 1:35:19Speaker 2: this is a guy who consistently throughout his career as
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: kept the ball on the ground. He strikes guys out,
- 1:35:25Speaker 2: really has good control, and at the end of last year,
- 1:35:28Speaker 2: in his last fourteen appearances, he struck out seventeen guys,
- 1:35:32Speaker 2: had an era of point seventy one and was just
- 1:35:36Speaker 2: absolute unbelievable. He just shut things down. And I think
- 1:35:41Speaker 2: they have to rely on that late late in games.
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: He only had one game in that last fourteen that
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: he gave up a run and that was kind of
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: an unfortunate kind of control issue game for him. But
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: otherwise I think he is a close to number one
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: closer going very very late. We're pick one seventy ish
- 1:36:03Speaker 2: uh in Draft Champions, which for closer that's like not
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: even existent in that kind of format. And so I
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: think Gruffin Jackson is being very much overlooked, and I
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: think he's gonna run away and be the closer, and
- 1:36:14Speaker 2: I think he's gonna save about thirty games.
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: For the race. I mean, I like it. Even if
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: he's not the closer, he's a great asset. These are
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: just regardless. But I think he's I think he's the
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: lockdown closer there. Yeah, Okay, I like it.
- 1:36:29Speaker 3: Those those bad teams are they've got to win games,
- 1:36:32Speaker 3: and if they're not blowing people out of the water,
- 1:36:33Speaker 3: that's a lot more same opportunities.
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: So yeah, And honestly, when you see too, scares of
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: the Jesus out of me when he throws, So that's
- 1:36:39Speaker 2: the other that's a lot of walks too.
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: I like him a lot. But yeah, the control is
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: not there.
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, my buye. I mean this is a classic.
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: Just like take the old man on the board and
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: Diaz his average ADP is one thirty three. Uh, every
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: projection system has ms about like the seventy fifth, the
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: eightieth best player free money. So, like we've hit on
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: it a couple of times in this podcast over the
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: off season, that first base and corner is rough if
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: you've got a solid first baseman or I mean, the
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: dds is probably about the where the Cliffs starts for
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: first base. So certainly, like if you're in a situation
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: where you've like realized you haven't picked up a first
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: baseman and he's hanging out there and it's before his
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: ADP pop him, because you're looking at a guy who's
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: like twenty homers, eighty runs, eighty rbi to ninety ish average,
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: that's that's great for rotisserie. I mean, certainly the power
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: the home runs will be a little bit light for
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: first base, but you make up for it an average
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: and you can just try to find that power throughout
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: the draft in the outfield or at catcher or something.
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: So it's super boring, but I think people are also
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: seeing that thirty four next to the indid as his
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: name in the draft room, and I there's no reason
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: I think he's gonna fall off a cliff. So I'm
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: just looking for a very steady option at that point,
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: just to be able to lock in some production and
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: then you can go and take some more risks later
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: in the draft. So I'm loving Thedas at current draft price.
- 1:38:17Speaker 3: Only.
- 1:38:17Speaker 2: My only qualm here is the guy. Can I hit
- 1:38:20Speaker 2: the ball in the air?
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: Can you? Twenty? He is?
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: He's gonna hit fifteen home runs this year. I'm calm now,
- 1:38:26Speaker 2: he's gonna hit fifteen, fifteen, eighty, eighty two, ninety.
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:38:29Speaker 2: I mean there's value in that. But just please don't
- 1:38:32Speaker 2: think he's a twenty five homework guy.
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: He is not.
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: Twenty.
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: It's just cap Yeah. Like I love him as a
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: corner and field.
- 1:38:41Speaker 2: I'm a little if he has a first baseman, but
- 1:38:44Speaker 2: there's not it's you know, to your point, like you
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: know what you're getting and nobody else is like jumping
- 1:38:48Speaker 2: out of.
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: Their chair for Didas.
- 1:38:50Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:38:50Speaker 2: So there's there's value there, especially the batting average. I
- 1:38:52Speaker 2: think people forget about what that can do to a team.
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: So there's value here. Just please don't think he's a
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: twenty five homework guy.
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, because you can see it in the in
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: the stat cast data too. He was also hitting it
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: out to that right field porch at George em Steinbrenner Field,
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: and so he's not gonna have that. But like he's
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: got the back control too to show that, like he
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: will start ripping it. I think back down that left
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: field line in Tampa. When they go to New York,
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: he can hit it down right field. But yeah, I'm
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: not counting on anything more than twenty homers out Yandy Diaz.
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: But like Michael Bush is the next first baseman going
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: in front of him, I'll take Yandy Diaz all day.
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: That's there, and then it might not be as exciting
- 1:39:29Speaker 3: as some of those other names. But yeah, when you're talking,
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: he's like steady Eddy as it gets all right.
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: Uh, let's get into your cell here, Matt, because uh
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: we sold hard.
- 1:39:40Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, Soler Simpson now no.
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: Yeah, you're listen to a podcast.
- 1:39:47Speaker 3: Got me. Yeah, this one's similar to the Schlitzler one.
- 1:39:53Speaker 3: I gotta be careful there. Uh, some of the kids
- 1:39:55Speaker 3: in school might be listening to this, so I gotta
- 1:39:57Speaker 3: make sure i'm careful. But yeah, it's funny because I
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: was telling Mike before we started this one that I
- 1:40:04Speaker 3: looked at some of the old like the twenty twenty
- 1:40:06Speaker 3: four one that I pulled up, and he was my
- 1:40:08Speaker 3: cell in twenty twenty four to two Ryan Peppiote. And
- 1:40:11Speaker 3: it's not because I don't like the player. The walks
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: and the strikeouts are fine. Homers were up a little bit,
- 1:40:18Speaker 3: but it's the same kind of thing as withh Schlitler
- 1:40:22Speaker 3: last year. He was going off the board as the
- 1:40:24Speaker 3: sixty first starter. This year, according to NFBC, he's the
- 1:40:29Speaker 3: SP thirty nine. It's a little too rich for my blood.
- 1:40:34Speaker 3: I'm okay with missing out on the breakout from him
- 1:40:37Speaker 3: if he puts it all together, but I'm just out
- 1:40:41Speaker 3: at that price. Personal preference. Really, there's a lot of
- 1:40:43Speaker 3: blue on that stat cast page. The ninety five mile
- 1:40:46Speaker 3: an hour fastball is nice, but everything else is kind
- 1:40:49Speaker 3: of I would rather roll my dice on Emitt Shean
- 1:40:53Speaker 3: as the SP thirty seven or the afore mentioned super
- 1:40:58Speaker 3: blue Jay Tray Savage at SP forty five if I
- 1:41:02Speaker 3: want to gamble on that kind of arm with similar
- 1:41:05Speaker 3: kind of like youth coming up, and maybe they they pop.
- 1:41:09Speaker 3: I'd rather go after Shean or you Savage in that
- 1:41:12Speaker 3: range than Pepio.
- 1:41:15Speaker 2: I'm right there with you. I really don't understand this one.
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: I saw all the draft price, the Simpson thing I
- 1:41:20Speaker 2: just couldn't pass up. But I look at this and
- 1:41:23Speaker 2: I'm like, what what is it about this profile that
- 1:41:26Speaker 2: people are buying? I mean, this is a five hundred
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: pitcher his entire career. He's not even striking out a
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: guy for any to this point. He's kind of homer prone,
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: puts the ball in the heraton and barely kept the
- 1:41:38Speaker 2: area under four. So why did he Why did his
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: draft price go up this year? I don't understand it.
- 1:41:44Speaker 2: Maybe it's the you know, raised black magic type thing,
- 1:41:47Speaker 2: but its just I don't know what it is.
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: So it's kind of an enigma to me. I have
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: zero problem selling Ryan Pepio. Yeah, and then I think
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: you added on top of it like this was not
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: the healthiest when he came through that Dodger system. It's
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: part of the reason the Dodgers sent him out of
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: town to Tampa, and so who knows what could crop up.
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: He was able to stay on the mountain for the
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: career high one hundred and sixty seven and two thirds
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: endings last year, but who knows if he can keep
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: that going. So I think this is a solid cell.
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: Yeah, and you kind of said it too with I
- 1:42:20Speaker 3: think it was part of that narrative where people see, all, well,
- 1:42:23Speaker 3: it's that he had a lot of upside coming out
- 1:42:26Speaker 3: of LA and the Rays saw something there, so they're
- 1:42:30Speaker 3: going to turn into something super special. Maybe that's still
- 1:42:32Speaker 3: kind of lingering, but yeah, too rich for my taste there.
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: Okay, well, let's get to the main event here. We're
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: gone to the Toronto Blue Jays. Your twenty twenty five
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: Al champions fell literally inches short of getting that World
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: Series title between the play at home with Miguel Rojas
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: and that outfield catch with the clattering of on Andy
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: Pajes and Enrique Hernandez out there. What a world Series.
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: What a team to be able to push that vaunted
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: Dodgers team to the brink. They've won the division obviously
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: last year, going ninety four and sixty eight, and not
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: only are they they running it back, but they've improved
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: on it. I think, I mean, Boba sheets no longer around,
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: but they did add Kazuma Okamoto to that infield. They
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: also picked up Dylan Ceased to be the SP two.
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: Shane Bieber signed up on that option to stick around
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: in Toronto. Cody Ponce signed on from KBO after winning
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: the MVP over there, and on top of it all,
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: they also added Tyler Rodgers as just an incredible bullpen piece.
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: So I mean, I think this is probably the favorites
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: in the clubhouse right now, and for the ale least, Again,
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: it's really tough to find a hole on this team,
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: and it does also seem like they've kind of turned
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: into a bit of like a pitching factory too, that
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: like there's some sort of magic juice that they're they're
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: getting together there and pumped out tray A Savage last year,
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: and I think it obviously also flipped around Cal Stephen,
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: who they traded for Shane Bieber. But I mean, I
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: think there's also from like a dynasty perspective, I've been
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: digging a lot of like the minor leaguers that are
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: coming through the Blue Jay system as well, But we're
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: focused on twenty twenty six here, Matt, you're Toronto blue Jays.
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: Who you buying?
- 1:44:24Speaker 3: Yeah, so you said it last year. The thing that
- 1:44:27Speaker 3: about bo just quickly before we get into it, bow leaving,
- 1:44:30Speaker 3: I mean, it's you. I was waiting for like pieces
- 1:44:33Speaker 3: of cake to be sent out by Gray and beaton
- 1:44:36Speaker 3: to all of our writers because it was like a
- 1:44:37Speaker 3: celebration that bow was gonezo. But I said it, there's
- 1:44:42Speaker 3: a lot of people up here that like love the guy,
- 1:44:45Speaker 3: and I mean like he he bounced back well last year.
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: But I said, you know what, they they got all
- 1:44:52Speaker 3: the way to the World Series he was hurt, right
- 1:44:54Speaker 3: and every playoff series up until that final one he was.
- 1:44:59Speaker 3: He didn't play at all, so they got that far
- 1:45:01Speaker 3: without him. So it's like, you know what, if he goes,
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: he goes, and that's fine. I'm going with somebody that
- 1:45:08Speaker 3: they use some of that money for instead shut out
- 1:45:12Speaker 3: for you White Sox fans from the way back. I'm
- 1:45:16Speaker 3: gonna buy Dylan Ceese at his draft cost. Right now,
- 1:45:21Speaker 3: I know that the giant elephant in the two foot
- 1:45:25Speaker 3: snow bank out here is the walk right like it's
- 1:45:29Speaker 3: sometimes and I've had shares of Dylan Seas for a
- 1:45:32Speaker 3: really long time, all the way back to the White
- 1:45:34Speaker 3: Sox days, but I like the walks. Yeah, it's ugly,
- 1:45:39Speaker 3: but he I saw a graphic off season where it
- 1:45:43Speaker 3: said he had the I think it was third highest
- 1:45:48Speaker 3: innings total in the last three years out of starters,
- 1:45:51Speaker 3: and you know the strikeouts are going to be there.
- 1:45:54Speaker 3: My plan, like I mentioned the tiny bit at the
- 1:45:56Speaker 3: beginning there, if I'll do it at least in one
- 1:45:59Speaker 3: or two, just to see if I can pair it
- 1:46:01Speaker 3: up and see how it works out. But it's very
- 1:46:05Speaker 3: similar to you know how Great releases that starting pitcher
- 1:46:09Speaker 3: pairing post where he's like, if you take this guy,
- 1:46:11Speaker 3: then make sure you take somebody else from this group.
- 1:46:14Speaker 3: So I was looking at that kind of thinking with Cease,
- 1:46:18Speaker 3: and if I take a guy like Brian Wu in
- 1:46:21Speaker 3: round three or four as my sp one and then
- 1:46:24Speaker 3: take Dylan Ceese as my second even in round seven
- 1:46:29Speaker 3: or eight, I think the walk rate that's pristine with
- 1:46:34Speaker 3: a guy like Wu and the strikeout rate which is
- 1:46:37Speaker 3: sky high with Cease, when you're combining both of those guys,
- 1:46:40Speaker 3: I think you're getting a pretty decent pairing. So that's
- 1:46:45Speaker 3: my thinking as far as trying to balance out that
- 1:46:48Speaker 3: potential problem with walks. He'll drive me crazy again, for sure.
- 1:46:53Speaker 3: But and there's the hometown pricing with with our leagues
- 1:46:57Speaker 3: up here too, Like, because he's a blue Jay, people
- 1:46:59Speaker 3: will be all over him early. But in the other
- 1:47:02Speaker 3: leagues that will play in, I think you could probably
- 1:47:05Speaker 3: get him for a decent enough price where it'll return
- 1:47:08Speaker 3: you some profit.
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: I think, yes, oh yeah, go ahead. Are you gonna
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: sell this is myself?
- 1:47:15Speaker 2: Yeah, Dylan sees in my cell. First of all, he's
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: going to this exact same ADP as Kyle Bradish, Little
- 1:47:24Speaker 2: bo or Spencer Schwellenbach.
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: And this is a guy that I also have a
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: rounding air.
- 1:47:30Speaker 2: How many seasons of the seven seasons has he had
- 1:47:35Speaker 2: an era below three and a half And there's a
- 1:47:38Speaker 2: rounding air there because technically two because he had three
- 1:47:40Speaker 2: point four to seven, but otherwise it's been one. This
- 1:47:43Speaker 2: is a guy that has historically been a four era
- 1:47:46Speaker 2: guys at careers three, eight, eight. He walks a lot
- 1:47:49Speaker 2: of guys. He blows up all the time. He If
- 1:47:53Speaker 2: you look at these game log last year's like here's
- 1:47:54Speaker 2: nine runs here, six runs here, one running like it's
- 1:47:58Speaker 2: it's cardiac and I just I don't don't. I don't
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: see as number two. I don't think that roller coaster
- 1:48:03Speaker 2: is something you want to sign up for for a
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: number two because it can do what he did in
- 1:48:07Speaker 2: twenty twenty two where he just absolutely dominated because luck
- 1:48:10Speaker 2: went the right way, or can do the exact opposite
- 1:48:14Speaker 2: with which he did the next year and was seven
- 1:48:17Speaker 2: to nine with the four or five year Like it's
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: he has the profile that's just extreme risk and extream outcomes.
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: That's not a number two picture for me. And so
- 1:48:27Speaker 2: I see why you know he got the big contract.
- 1:48:29Speaker 2: I see the big fastball and all those things. I
- 1:48:31Speaker 2: just think you're you're asking for trouble if you build
- 1:48:34Speaker 2: a team around a guy like this. I do appreciate
- 1:48:37Speaker 2: the fact that you said add a guy like Wu
- 1:48:38Speaker 2: before that so that you get your stability there. So
- 1:48:40Speaker 2: I think you saw the same thing. But I just
- 1:48:43Speaker 2: it's it's too much for me. So I'm selling Dylan
- 1:48:45Speaker 2: ceas and and now I'm questioning myself if our Toronto
- 1:48:48Speaker 2: blue jay expert comes on and I so I'm just
- 1:48:51Speaker 2: I'm just hoping he agrees.
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: With my bye.
- 1:48:54Speaker 2: Yeah, so I feel okay that we can bite him
- 1:48:56Speaker 2: back next year.
- 1:48:57Speaker 3: There is a nice little like dosage of hope too, obviously,
- 1:49:02Speaker 3: but like you mentioned Bradish, like they're almost back to back.
- 1:49:05Speaker 3: I think so it's one of those ones where if
- 1:49:08Speaker 3: I do get the Mariners, it's almost like close your eyes,
- 1:49:11Speaker 3: reaching the bag and pull one of these guys out
- 1:49:13Speaker 3: with like a ridiculously great walk rate. So if you
- 1:49:16Speaker 3: get one of those guys before, then yeah, I'm almost
- 1:49:21Speaker 3: ready to say, okay, who whichever one you leave me,
- 1:49:23Speaker 3: I'll take whether it's Bradish or Receiast, But I don't know,
- 1:49:26Speaker 3: And Mike you said it too, the I don't think
- 1:49:30Speaker 3: the Jays are magic when it comes to pitching, but
- 1:49:33Speaker 3: they're doing something right. So again, maybe it's more hope
- 1:49:37Speaker 3: and cross my fingers that Gossman and Bieber and guys
- 1:49:42Speaker 3: like that can sit down and talk to him and
- 1:49:44Speaker 3: maybe he shaves a little bit of the walk right down.
- 1:49:48Speaker 3: But I know it's one of those like Charlie Brown right,
- 1:49:51Speaker 3: like his walk rates might be yank in the football
- 1:49:54Speaker 3: how many times you really want to get fooled by it?
- 1:49:56Speaker 3: But I'm a sucker for Blue Jay stuff, So yeah,
- 1:50:01Speaker 3: I'll uh that strike, all right, I'll take it. I'll
- 1:50:04Speaker 3: take the risk because I'm used to getting crushed by
- 1:50:06Speaker 3: that guy too, so at least.
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: I feel like I'm in a powerful position. Is arbiter
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: because he wasn't my buy ourself. But unfortunately Brew I've
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: got to come down I think on Matt's side a
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: little bit here, more so because the other thing that
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: fueled some of Dylan seas last year three twenty babbub
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: the year in twenty twenty three that he blew up
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: three thirty babb up that year in twenty twenty three
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: at the White Sox, that was a garbage fielding team.
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: Last year, that Padres outfield was rough as well as
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: like when they were playing Luise a Rise in the
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: field also rough. So I think the Blue Jays had
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: the best defense in baseball last year. They I think
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: that's really going to help them. I think on top
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: of it, I think they'll find a way to cut
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: the walk rate. And you're just getting volume I think
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: from cease at that point. So like, I like it.
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: I think it's pretty fair price. And between the bradish
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: and Cease, I mean, why not both just get both
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: of them? In my book, that like it's not a
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: bad route. Like if you don't get a number one
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: and you kind of go with our classic rass ball
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: strategy of hit her for like the first five or
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: six rounds. Maybe that's not a bad route actually to
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: cobble together to really great number twos. I think in
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: Cease and Bradish, So sorry, Brew, but I like the
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: phipps that Ceases put up and I have faith in
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: the Blue Jays defense well.
- 1:51:31Speaker 3: And that was the defense thing. I remember myself and
- 1:51:34Speaker 3: a lot of buddies up here were like, what the
- 1:51:36Speaker 3: heck are they doing when they were building that defensive
- 1:51:40Speaker 3: defense first, and we saw it last year. It was
- 1:51:43Speaker 3: unbelievable how strong that was. And yeah, hopefully that's one
- 1:51:48Speaker 3: of those things that'll help out not just the other guys,
- 1:51:51Speaker 3: but a guy like like Dylan Ceaese as well.
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: And it could be stronger with him in as that
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: shortstop instead of Bow and m Clement second base, So
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: it'll be I think it could be.
- 1:52:02Speaker 3: Formable, all right. I think that like defensively, that was
- 1:52:05Speaker 3: addition by subtraction with Bo had a note, I joke
- 1:52:08Speaker 3: that him playing third base for the Mets, they're going
- 1:52:10Speaker 3: to have to have the starting pitchers practice cutoffs because
- 1:52:13Speaker 3: he's not gonna be able to get the ball to
- 1:52:14Speaker 3: first base. But sorry, Bo, if you're listening, he's not
- 1:52:20Speaker 3: one hundred and fifty million dollars to cry into those.
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: So he's okay, yeah, he's on a he's on a
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: boat somewhere. Yeah, but Bru, who is your bye here?
- 1:52:29Speaker 3: From the blue Jayson?
- 1:52:30Speaker 2: All Right, I'm going to guy that I absolutely adore
- 1:52:33Speaker 2: on this team, and that is good Old as In Barger.
- 1:52:37Speaker 2: It is I think as In Barger is going to
- 1:52:40Speaker 2: have a monster season. If you look at some of
- 1:52:43Speaker 2: the metrics behind him, I mean, he had a good
- 1:52:45Speaker 2: years two forty three, twenty one. Homer's good counting stats,
- 1:52:50Speaker 2: you could tell it was he was still trying to
- 1:52:52Speaker 2: learn in his first full go of it, Like strikeouts
- 1:52:54Speaker 2: were up, walks her down against my leagues, So he
- 1:52:57Speaker 2: was definitely learning, but he was getting more and more comfortable,
- 1:52:59Speaker 2: clearly Solt the playoffs. And if you actually kind of
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: look under the covers here, he has premium bat speed.
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: It is absolutely dangerous.
- 1:53:09Speaker 2: And he barrels the ball up pretty gush darn well too.
- 1:53:13Speaker 2: Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that when
- 1:53:15Speaker 2: that happens, the ball flies off the ballpark.
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: Guess what.
- 1:53:18Speaker 2: This guy also historically has had really high rates of
- 1:53:21Speaker 2: home run for flyball. It was down a little bit
- 1:53:22Speaker 2: last year, and you know the flyball rate was was
- 1:53:27Speaker 2: actually doing pretty gush darn well, getting up to a
- 1:53:29Speaker 2: forty percent rate as well.
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: So I think this is a thirty five.
- 1:53:33Speaker 2: Home erm bat and he's going to be at a
- 1:53:36Speaker 2: pretty good spot in that lineup. So add up the
- 1:53:39Speaker 2: counting stats and call it two point fifty thirty five homers,
- 1:53:43Speaker 2: one hundred RBIs and we are talking about a guy
- 1:53:46Speaker 2: that is going to pick one ninety. But guess what
- 1:53:49Speaker 2: he has the third base outfield eligibility. That's just just
- 1:53:53Speaker 2: an extra kicker on top. So give me Ads Barger
- 1:53:56Speaker 2: every day. Love this guy.
- 1:53:57Speaker 3: Yeah, he was my like one be behind sees there's
- 1:54:01Speaker 3: another one too, obviously we've mentioned before, but that it's
- 1:54:03Speaker 3: funny because there's a lot of people after they signed Okamoto,
- 1:54:08Speaker 3: was it, yep, as they're like third basement and then
- 1:54:10Speaker 3: someone's someone's well, well he can play left field as well,
- 1:54:13Speaker 3: and it's like maybe then Barge will end up platooning.
- 1:54:17Speaker 3: But the whole point of him and Okamodo being third
- 1:54:21Speaker 3: base eligible, they can both play the ol field too,
- 1:54:23Speaker 3: so you've got so much more versatility there where. I
- 1:54:26Speaker 3: don't think it's a bad thing because you could put
- 1:54:30Speaker 3: him out in the right field. You can left field,
- 1:54:32Speaker 3: you can have him. I mean, I don't think you
- 1:54:33Speaker 3: really have him DH because the arm is ridiculously strong,
- 1:54:37Speaker 3: but yeah, you could have him played third the lefty
- 1:54:39Speaker 3: versus righty on Okamoto is already, I believe. So I
- 1:54:42Speaker 3: don't think it's a bad thing them signing Okamoto. If anything,
- 1:54:46Speaker 3: it just gives them more options to move him around,
- 1:54:49Speaker 3: and you don't really want to think about eligibility for
- 1:54:51Speaker 3: next year already. But I mean, it's not a bad
- 1:54:53Speaker 3: thing if he's playing different positions for our game at least.
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay, Well, I I swear this isn't like a
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: brown nose towards our guest this week. My buy is
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: actually it goes with the cell as well. I'm buying
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: all and I'm selling none because I was lining this
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: up against our Player Raider in the DP on the
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: Toronto Blue Jayson, which this also kind of blew my
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: mind considering how hot they were in the playoffs and
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: how good they looked. I mean, Jeff Hoffman is a
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: little bit of a wonky case, but honestly, he's not
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: that far off of like what the value is in
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: our Player Raider compared to the ADP and you give
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: him a little bit that Draft champions boost. The first
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: Blue Jay from ADP that is going above their projective
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: value in our player raider is Jose Barrios at four
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: sixty eight. Everybody before that, Vladimir Gerrier, Junior, Dylan Cees,
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: George Springer, Kevin Gossman, Trey A. Savage, Alejandro Kirk, Shane Bieber,
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: Dalton varshow as In Barger, Anthony Santander, Kozumo, O Komodo,
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: Ernie Clement, Cody Pontz, Andre Jimenez all higher in our
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: player rader than.
- 1:56:06Speaker 3: They are in ADP.
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: I don't think I've ever seen that, and it's kind
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: of bananas. I mean, ye, Savage, I mean that's such
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: a fair price on him too. And like across the board,
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: you're looking at just a team of really well rounded hitters,
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: well rounded pitchers. I couldn't find a cell and I
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: will buy all of these. I didn't. I recently completed
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: my first DC from First Pitch Arizona and actually didn't
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: end up with the Blue Jays despite that. Big part
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: of it I think is because like when we were
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: first at that draft back in November, is right off
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: of the high of the World series, so people were
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: really picking up Blue Jays left and right. But like
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: everyone that I railed off, I'll take them at ADP,
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: and I'll probably be drafting them before ADP. I don't
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: know what rooms are drafting these players at these ADPs.
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: But it's not that they're all so low compared to
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: what they think they should be.
- 1:57:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I like that you said that, sorry, go ahead
- 1:57:09Speaker 3: and prove no.
- 1:57:10Speaker 2: I was like, I, I don't terribly disagree. Clearly I
- 1:57:13Speaker 2: had to sell, but I think you're right. Like, this
- 1:57:15Speaker 2: is a group that I like a lot of guys. Here,
- 1:57:18Speaker 2: I love Akamoto, Here, Bieber, there's some question marks behind
- 1:57:21Speaker 2: the scenes, but like he's a guy that always seems
- 1:57:23Speaker 2: to adapt and figure that out, so I love him.
- 1:57:26Speaker 2: I think is going to ADP on Bieber like a one. Yeah,
- 1:57:31Speaker 2: even Hoffman, who you said he was like he's scared
- 1:57:33Speaker 2: the but Jesus probably out of everybody in Toronto last
- 1:57:36Speaker 2: last year.
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: But like the price is is there figured that in?
- 1:57:41Speaker 2: And so like I it is maybe Santande or I'm
- 1:57:44Speaker 2: a little scared about because I'm not sure what version
- 1:57:46Speaker 2: we're gonna get, But it does feel like a little
- 1:57:48Speaker 2: cop out. I'll give you that. Uh maybe it's you know,
- 1:57:51Speaker 2: a little brown nosing, but it love it.
- 1:57:53Speaker 3: I love it. You get a star. I have gold stars.
- 1:57:55Speaker 3: I teach Pade four now, so like I got a
- 1:57:57Speaker 3: ton of gold stars. You guys get all male, some
- 1:57:59Speaker 3: back to you the but you guys send me the
- 1:58:01Speaker 3: Tim Morton's cards. Yeah yeah, but yeah no, like I, I,
- 1:58:08Speaker 3: you're exactly right that it's tough to pick one that
- 1:58:11Speaker 3: is a cell I. It's funny because I went through
- 1:58:14Speaker 3: it when I was trying to find one too, and
- 1:58:16Speaker 3: I was like, oh, yeah, George Springer, for sure he's
- 1:58:18Speaker 3: gonna fall apart. He's thirty six. And then I looked
- 1:58:21Speaker 3: at everything. I kind of said, if he's thirty six
- 1:58:25Speaker 3: year old, like a thirty six year old, baseball players
- 1:58:27Speaker 3: like sixty five and real people years, so it's like
- 1:58:29Speaker 3: just a matter of time before things start to crumble.
- 1:58:32Speaker 3: But then I looked at everything and I was like,
- 1:58:34Speaker 3: oh my god. Like last year, he had one hundred
- 1:58:37Speaker 3: and forty games, thirty two homers, eighty four RBIs, one
- 1:58:39Speaker 3: hundred and six runs scored, he batted three ZH six
- 1:58:43Speaker 3: and he had a nine to fifty eight ops and
- 1:58:46Speaker 3: he had eighteen steals too as a thirty five year old,
- 1:58:49Speaker 3: Are you kidding me? Like, and then I looked, I'm like, okay,
- 1:58:51Speaker 3: well maybe maybe him being like super injured was like
- 1:58:56Speaker 3: a couple of years back, one hundred and forty games,
- 1:58:58Speaker 3: one hundred and forty five games, fifty four games, one
- 1:59:01Speaker 3: hundred fifty four games, and one hundred and thirty three games,
- 1:59:03Speaker 3: So I thought he was like injury prone. But that's
- 1:59:08Speaker 3: four years in a row that, I mean, he missed
- 1:59:10Speaker 3: a little bit, but I would say I had him
- 1:59:14Speaker 3: down as mysel But yeah, I don't know until he
- 1:59:19Speaker 3: actually shows that it's not gonna work. I don't even
- 1:59:22Speaker 3: know if I can do that.
- 1:59:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean Springer right now on our player Raider projection,
- 1:59:27Speaker 1: clocking in at fifty four, going off the board in
- 1:59:29Speaker 1: the hundreds. Actually, my hot take is George Springer outperforms
- 1:59:34Speaker 1: Roman Anthony dollar wise this year.
- 1:59:36Speaker 3: Yes, I like it.
- 1:59:38Speaker 2: You're gonna make so many people.
- 1:59:39Speaker 1: Man, But like the steals, like everything else is gonna
- 1:59:44Speaker 1: be even Springer is probably gonna have a little more power,
- 1:59:48Speaker 1: a little less average, but otherwise that's that's the same player.
- 1:59:52Speaker 3: Yeah, that's wild. It's funny you mentioned Hoffman too, because
- 1:59:55Speaker 3: that was the other one that I kind of looked
- 1:59:57Speaker 3: at and I remember back Jake, if anyone's not sure,
- 2:00:02Speaker 3: he's the sag Off guy. So he writes up all
- 2:00:04Speaker 3: our closers and our relievers. And it was funny because
- 2:00:07Speaker 3: I said to him like this, like he drives me crazy,
- 2:00:10Speaker 3: and JKJ said he, Jeff Hoffmin had the best worst
- 2:00:14Speaker 3: season for a closer last year, and I thought that
- 2:00:17Speaker 3: was kind of funny because it was like he said,
- 2:00:19Speaker 3: like he could be on and then implode and then
- 2:00:23Speaker 3: it was funny because it was that kind of micro
- 2:00:26Speaker 3: cause him in the playoffs too, because he had a
- 2:00:28Speaker 3: great playoff. But you ask anybody Jeff Hoffman that knows
- 2:00:32Speaker 3: him or knows the name, and they'll be like, oh,
- 2:00:34Speaker 3: that's the guy that hung that slider to Miguel Rojas,
- 2:00:36Speaker 3: isn't it. It's like, yeah, that's what he'll be remembered
- 2:00:39Speaker 3: for for the playoffs. So that's another one that I
- 2:00:42Speaker 3: think the Jays were looking to upgrade a closer because
- 2:00:46Speaker 3: I think Hoffin would be a stellar setup guy. But
- 2:00:50Speaker 3: they just I don't know why they didn't go harder
- 2:00:52Speaker 3: after Edwin Diaz or even a guy like Pete Fairbanks
- 2:00:55Speaker 3: or Kenny Jansen. But I'm kind of throwing it all
- 2:00:58Speaker 3: out there now, but but yeah, those were guys that
- 2:01:01Speaker 3: I was like, I don't know from a cell standpoint,
- 2:01:04Speaker 3: but those were the two closest that I came to,
- 2:01:07Speaker 3: and then I almost talked myself out of it.
- 2:01:09Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean the other thing with Hoffman two
- 2:01:12Speaker 1: is like, even though it was like erratic in five
- 2:01:14Speaker 1: y five, it kind of worked out because he gave
- 2:01:16Speaker 1: me nine wins too, So it's like, yeah, exactly, It's
- 2:01:19Speaker 1: like it does kind of it's a little tough to swallow,
- 2:01:22Speaker 1: but like, yeah, sixty eight innings of the four thirty
- 2:01:25Speaker 1: seven era is not going to sink you. So when
- 2:01:28Speaker 1: you put it with nine wins and thirty three saves,
- 2:01:31Speaker 1: it all works out. And yeah, so yeah, there you go.
- 2:01:34Speaker 3: Those thirty three saves were a career high too, So
- 2:01:37Speaker 3: I mean you can't really criticize too much because the
- 2:01:39Speaker 3: guy was he was still like fairly effective.
- 2:01:43Speaker 1: Yeah. All right, well I think that's going to wrap
- 2:01:45Speaker 1: us here for the Ale East. Matt, thanks again for
