- 0:28Hey, everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So let's talk about boundaries. And when I say boundaries, I am
- 0:36not talking about the boundaries that we set typically for other
- 0:40people and what we will quote, UN quote, take from them.
- 0:45I'm not taking that from them. And I always find this to be an
- 0:49interesting version of how to do boundaries, because it's about
- 0:55the other person. And if you're a listener
- 0:57regularly with me, you know, I'm going to say the same thing I
- 1:01say very often. It's not about other people,
- 1:03it's about you. It's about what you allow for
- 1:07yourself internally, not externally.
- 1:10It's where you start to draw the line internally.
- 1:13So this means that you have to. Change your view of boundaries,
- 1:19and often times we will set them up and we will make them all
- 1:22about other people. We will make them about what we
- 1:25will take from other people, what we will allow from other
- 1:27people. And it becomes too external, in
- 1:32my opinion, for the greater good and for the greater good of you
- 1:36is what I'm talking about. Because we have no control over
- 1:39other people. We can't control other people,
- 1:41no matter how much we want to. We can't control them.
- 1:45We have nothing. That we can force upon them.
- 1:49That will make them shift at all.
- 1:52The only chance we have of shifting a relationship that we
- 1:57have with other people is to shift ourselves.
- 2:00And that is the great conundrum of it all.
- 2:03The great puzzle, The great mystery.
- 2:05Because when we change how we show up in an equation,
- 2:08something else changes. It's the part of the butterfly
- 2:10effect is the way I like to think of it.
- 2:12You know, if the butterfly flaps its wings, does that have an
- 2:15effect on something? Yes, because everything effects
- 2:17everything else. But the reality is that when it
- 2:21comes to human beings, behavior interacting with each other, the
- 2:26only way that you have an opportunity.
- 2:30Is to shift yourself, shift your points of view, shift the way
- 2:36you show up and then everything outside shifts.
- 2:40So the boundaries and and why are we talking about this right
- 2:43now? Well, because the holidays are
- 2:45coming and we know this is where all the chaos ensues and lots of
- 2:49families. I have a client who I mean I
- 2:53100% genuinely leaves. Before at the end of November,
- 2:58end of October and does not come back until the end of January so
- 3:02that she does not have to deal with all of her family.
- 3:06She just takes off and she goes to somewhere in Southeast Asia
- 3:10and tours and has fun and takes cooking classes and it's so that
- 3:14she doesn't have to deal with her family and it's so.
- 3:20Some people get really like, Oh my gosh, that's terrible that
- 3:22she has to do that. No, she's taking care of
- 3:25herself. She's made the decision that
- 3:26this is what's right for her. And I love her boldness of it
- 3:29because it's a time when she is slower at work so she can just
- 3:33do these things. And she does, because it sets
- 3:36her up. In her own head.
- 3:37And she's putting up the boundaries for herself, not for
- 3:42other people. So she says, listen, I don't
- 3:44want to go there. I don't want to have to listen
- 3:46to the conversations. I don't want to have to have,
- 3:49you know, these these intermixed groups of people that I know
- 3:53don't get along, that pretend and it feels weird and I'm not
- 3:56going to go and put my rules on people after all that we've
- 3:59worked on, she says. I'm not going to put my rules on
- 4:01people, I'm just going to take myself out of the game.
- 4:04And that is how she's setting her boundaries.
- 4:07So the funny part for me is I like to say I have to, I have to
- 4:14choose for myself what I'm going to allow to put up with inside
- 4:20myself. That's my boundaries.
- 4:22It's like, am I allowing myself to to get so chaotic about this?
- 4:26Am I allowing myself to take on this energy?
- 4:30Am I allowing myself to? Have to be offended by things.
- 4:33Because here's what's interesting.
- 4:35When you really start to get deep into self development work,
- 4:38you recognize more and more and more that nobody can make you
- 4:41think or feel anything that you do not allow onto your bus.
- 4:46And this is where boundaries come in.
- 4:49I can't. I cannot be forced to think
- 4:52something. It's a it's of my own making.
- 4:56So my boundaries for myself are that I set myself up where.
- 5:01Beforehand, I just say to myself, well, I choose not to be
- 5:04offended by any of the shenanigans that go on.
- 5:07I choose to just be neutral. I choose to be open and loving
- 5:12in any situation, or I choose to take myself out of the situation
- 5:16and I don't participate because I know I don't have the the
- 5:21fortitude to go through with it. And I know my limitations, and
- 5:26there are limitations that I consistently work on, but it
- 5:28doesn't mean that I don't know them.
- 5:30I still know them. So what's so important is to
- 5:32recognize you have ultimate control over the boundaries, but
- 5:36that the boundaries for you you can never control how other
- 5:39people act. Or feel You can never control
- 5:42what they're going to say. You can never control how
- 5:45they're going to show up. All you can do is control you.
- 5:48And ultimately the best part of this is once you really get a
- 5:52handle on this, you recognize that the beautiful part of this,
- 5:56the most beautiful part of all of this, is that you don't have
- 6:00to have any drama because you can.
- 6:02You don't have to tap into the drama.
- 6:04And the boundaries that you've set for yourself are literally
- 6:07just for yourself, nobody else. So I'm going to ask you guys to
- 6:11think about that well before the holidays and start working on it
- 6:15and set yourself up to win. Make the choices for yourself
- 6:19before you go in and stick to them.
- 6:22I hope you guys have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 6:26Bye.
