- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean. Here it is, a new week.
- 0:15It's Monday, the 16th of September and great to have your
- 0:19company as we embark on a whole new week reading through God's
- 0:23Word. This week we are going to not
- 0:25quite, but almost wrap up the book of Second Corinthians.
- 0:29There'll be 1 chapter that we will finish at the beginning of
- 0:31next week. And then we will move back into
- 0:34some narrative in the Old Testament, hearing about God's
- 0:38people returning to their home country after exile and
- 0:42rebuilding things. But that's next week's fun and
- 0:46excitement. This week we are going to
- 0:48continue spending time with Paul, writing to his friends in
- 0:52Corinth as they continue to work out how do they get to live a
- 0:56life of community together. So with that being said, let us
- 0:59dive right into it to hear what God has to reveal to us about
- 1:04Him and His nature and his plans for us.
- 1:08You ready? Yeah, me too.
- 1:10Let us do it. Let's read together Second
- 1:11Corinthians Chapter 9. I really don't need to write to
- 1:26you about this ministry of giving for the believers in
- 1:29Jerusalem, for I know how eager you are to help.
- 1:33And I've been boasting to the churches in Macedonia that you
- 1:37in Greece were ready to send an offering a year ago.
- 1:40In fact, it was your enthusiasm that stirred up many of the
- 1:44Macedonian believers to begin giving.
- 1:47I'm sending these brothers to be sure you really are ready, as
- 1:52I've been telling them, and that your money is all collected.
- 1:56I don't want to be wrong in my boasting about you.
- 1:59We would be embarrassed, not to mention your own embarrassment,
- 2:02if some Macedonian believers came with me and found that you
- 2:06weren't ready after all. I'd told them.
- 2:09So I thought I should send these brothers ahead of me to make
- 2:11sure the gift you promised is ready.
- 2:14But I want it to be a willing gift, not one given grudgingly.
- 2:19Remember this, a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get
- 2:23a small crop, but the one who plants generously will get a
- 2:27generous crop. You must each decide in your
- 2:30heart how much to give, and don't give reluctantly or in
- 2:34response to pressure, for God loves a person who gives
- 2:38cheerfully, and God will generously provide all you need.
- 2:43Then you will always have everything you need and plenty
- 2:45leftover to share with others. As the Scriptures say, they
- 2:49share freely and give generously to the poor.
- 2:53Their good deeds will be remembered forever.
- 2:57For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then
- 3:00bred to eat. In the same way, He will provide
- 3:04and increase your resources and then produced a great harvest of
- 3:08generosity in you. Yes, you will be enriched in
- 3:12every way so that you can always be generous.
- 3:16And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will
- 3:19thank God. So two things will result from
- 3:23this ministry of giving. The needs of the believers in
- 3:26Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their
- 3:29thanks to God. As a result of your ministry,
- 3:33they will give glory to God for your generosity to them and to
- 3:38all believers will prove that you are obedient to the good
- 3:42news of Christ. And I will pray for you with
- 3:45deep affection because of the overflowing grace God has given
- 3:49to you. Thank God for this gift too.
- 3:53Wonderful for words. Jesus, please help us remember
- 4:07that every good thing we have is a gift from you, and these gifts
- 4:12you've given to us are for sharing.
- 4:16It's so easy to hear the message of this world that says store up
- 4:20for tomorrow, but here you encourage us to share.
- 4:24And then when we do have more than we need to continue to
- 4:29share that with those in need. My Lord, thank you that you do
- 4:34bless us so abundantly in so many ways.
- 4:37Help us always remember that all you've given us is exactly that.
- 4:42It's a gift from you to be used for our good and for the good of
- 4:46your people. But Lord, nothing that we have
- 4:51and nothing that we give will ever be as good as the
- 4:55incredible gift of you, of you and your forgiveness and your
- 5:01saving of us. And so we thank you for your
- 5:04grace, that love that you give us whether we deserve it or not,
- 5:08and normally not, but you give it to us anyway.
- 5:13Thank you, we love you. We are so grateful for all you
- 5:16do for us and all you give us, and we pray all of this in your
- 5:22providing and saving name, Jesus, Amen.
