Latest / The Next Round / The Next Round: Todd Furman’s Week 2 Picks: Alabama-Kentucky, Ohio State-Texas & Oklahoma-Michigan | Hour 2
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Oh, Todd Furman had to love my picks last week.
- 0:04Speaker 1: If he faded me last week, I think I gave
- 0:08Speaker 1: him a lot of losers. I think if he faded me,
- 0:11Speaker 1: he had money. He's like one of those cartoons walking
- 0:14Speaker 1: down the street and $ 100 bills.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Were falling out of his pocket. and they were picking
- 0:19Speaker 2: them up on the streets of Las Vegas. Let's get
- 0:21Speaker 2: to Furman. This is the next round presented by Hard
- 0:23Speaker 2: Rock Bets on Sporting State. Bet the Board podcast, Todd Furman,
- 0:27Speaker 2: and you see him on CBS as well and also
- 0:28Speaker 2: part of Sporting State. He is at Todd Furman on
- 0:32Speaker 2: social media. He joins us every Friday to talk more
- 0:34Speaker 2: about all the games. What is up, Furman? How are
- 0:36Speaker 2: you today, buddy?
- 0:37Speaker 3: I'm doing well, and I'm glad Dunaway wasn't able to
- 0:40Speaker 3: mush my Louisville Cardinal on Sunday night. So, Dunaway, thank
- 0:43Speaker 3: you for that. But I do believe we agreed on Marshall,
- 0:46Speaker 3: and I think the Thundering Herd are still trying to
- 0:48Speaker 3: find the 50-yard line at Happy Valley after last week's performance.
- 0:52Speaker 2: That was a 45-0 beatdown, wasn't it?
- 0:54Speaker 4: Yep.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Not the prettiest thing, but like we say all the time,
- 0:57Speaker 3: you pay the exact same price to the man when
- 0:59Speaker 3: you lose by a half point or you lose by
- 1:01Speaker 3: half a hundred. So every now and again, you do
- 1:03Speaker 3: get a little bit of solace knowing that if you
- 1:05Speaker 3: completely whiff on a bet, you don't have to pay double, triple,
- 1:09Speaker 3: or in this case, maybe even quadruple.
- 1:10Speaker 5: Can we start with last night's action? Because I know
- 1:13Speaker 5: that handle had to be huge for books out there
- 1:15Speaker 5: and I knew it for him and I knew going
- 1:16Speaker 5: into the game, you know, I'm a Die-hard Rams guy.
- 1:19Speaker 5: I only played the total, and I got that wrong
- 1:21Speaker 5: with the over. I really think that if the Rams
- 1:23Speaker 5: get in there at 17-14, I think that thing plays
- 1:25Speaker 5: out differently. I could be wrong, but I'll take my
- 1:28Speaker 5: L on both sides of that. With all that said,
- 1:31Speaker 5: we should have known. Like, Stafford now 4-10 against the 49ers.
- 1:35Speaker 5: McVay 6-14 against Kyle Shanahan.
- 1:38Speaker 4: That is the Rams kryptonite.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Well, I think the game, to your point, LT, would
- 1:43Speaker 3: have played out significantly different if the Rams were able
- 1:45Speaker 3: to poke that ball in on the fourth and one
- 1:47Speaker 3: quarterback sneak. It's a 17-14 football game, and the ATS result.
- 1:51Speaker 6: Very much hanging in the balance at that point.
- 1:53Speaker 3: I think what we've seen over the last couple of
- 1:55Speaker 3: years from Sean McVay since Matthew Stafford took over is
- 1:58Speaker 3: slow starts out of the gates. And the problem for
- 2:01Speaker 3: the Rams is this was a high-leverage division game where
- 2:03Speaker 3: the offense looked to be a few paces off and
- 2:06Speaker 3: were never able to get their sea legs under them
- 2:08Speaker 3: in the 27-7 defeat. Meanwhile, for the 49ers, they played
- 2:12Speaker 3: with a sense of purpose. They looked like a team
- 2:14Speaker 3: that was a little hungrier and more desperate, probably having
- 2:17Speaker 3: heard about the Rams as a super team. You mentioned
- 2:20Speaker 3: the familiarity between these teams and the success. that Kyle
- 2:23Speaker 3: Shanahan has had in the past. Another injury for the
- 2:26Speaker 3: 49ers doesn't slow them down offensively, but I think when
- 2:29Speaker 3: we're looking back on this game as the calendar gets
- 2:31Speaker 3: to November or even December, it's not going to be
- 2:34Speaker 3: something that leaves a lasting image other than the fact
- 2:37Speaker 3: the Rams are real reluctant to adjust their defensive principles
- 2:40Speaker 3: knowing that they like to play a lot of dime coverage.
- 2:43Speaker 3: It's a group that brought in a couple DBs that
- 2:45Speaker 3: are more comfortable in man coverage, but we still saw
- 2:48Speaker 3: them use a very high rate of zone. We'll see
- 2:50Speaker 3: if Chris Shula elects to make some of those changes.
- 2:52Speaker 3: as he gets more familiar with the Rams defensive personnel.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Listen, I know you have the system and these numbers
- 3:00Speaker 1: and the math that goes with it, but how much
- 3:02Speaker 1: will you factor in travel back and how both of
- 3:06Speaker 1: these teams handled it differently? Is there any chance of
- 3:11Speaker 1: a hangover for either team as you start to project
- 3:14Speaker 1: out to week two for those two teams?
- 3:16Speaker 3: More of a concern for me with the 49ers, who
- 3:19Speaker 3: will find themselves with one day less of rest time
- 3:22Speaker 3: taking on Brownies' beloved Miami Dolphins in a game where
- 3:26Speaker 3: they're going to be asked to win not only comfortably,
- 3:29Speaker 3: but do so by double digits. I anticipate, depending on
- 3:32Speaker 3: how the Dolphins look on Sunday against the Raiders, that
- 3:34Speaker 3: we're going to be seeing the 49ers as an 11,
- 3:37Speaker 3: maybe even an 11.5-point favorite in that contest.
- 3:40Speaker 6: A little less so about the Rams.
- 3:41Speaker 3: I think the benefit that they get from that very
- 3:44Speaker 3: quick turnaround flying in a day before and flying out
- 3:46Speaker 3: immediately is that they'll be ready for the Monday night
- 3:49Speaker 3: game against the Giants, a chance for them to exercise
- 3:52Speaker 3: some of the demons and look a little bit more
- 3:54Speaker 3: dynamic on both the offensive and defensive line. But the
- 3:58Speaker 3: one thing I don't want to ignore from the Rams
- 3:59Speaker 3: is they come out of that game a little bit
- 4:01Speaker 3: banged up as well defensively. And while there were concerns
- 4:04Speaker 3: about their linebacker group going into the year, it's not
- 4:07Speaker 3: an overly deep group. Omar Spates didn't finish the game
- 4:09Speaker 3: and Nate Landman went down late. So we'll see who
- 4:12Speaker 3: is available for the Rams because that's a position group
- 4:15Speaker 3: they really haven't focused on over the last couple of
- 4:17Speaker 3: years when it comes to finding depth.
- 4:18Speaker 2: They just name linebackers now after Tyler Sheridan shows? I
- 4:22Speaker 2: love the guy's name, Landman.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Okay, you get Bills and Texans as well on Sunday.
- 4:29Speaker 1: That's my AFC championship game matchup. I don't know how
- 4:33Speaker 1: you project out the rest of the year. Do you
- 4:35Speaker 1: think that's a preview possibly of an AFC championship game matchup?
- 4:40Speaker 3: I'm not as high on the bills as the betting market.
- 4:42Speaker 3: I really want to see how this Joe Brady, Josh
- 4:45Speaker 3: Allen marriage looks early on. It's an offense that I
- 4:48Speaker 3: think can be explosive and dynamic if they allow Josh
- 4:51Speaker 3: Allen to do Josh Allen things.
- 4:52Speaker 6: But it may take a little while for.
- 4:54Speaker 3: Jim Leonard to figure out exactly what he has on
- 4:56Speaker 3: the defensive side of the ball. And I think this
- 4:59Speaker 3: provides a great test because the last time we saw
- 5:01Speaker 3: CJ Stroud in this Houston Texans offense was in the postseason.
- 5:04Speaker 3: I mean, what finished with one touchdown pass, four interceptions,
- 5:07Speaker 3: a shade more than 200 yards passing. He was able
- 5:10Speaker 3: to win the wildcard game against the Steelers, but it
- 5:12Speaker 3: wasn't because of anything that they did offensively. And this
- 5:15Speaker 3: was a Houston team I thought had an underrated wide
- 5:17Speaker 3: receiver room coming into the year, but no Jaden Higgins
- 5:20Speaker 3: lost for the year with a torn ACL. You have
- 5:22Speaker 3: Tank Dell who starts the season on IR, so they
- 5:24Speaker 3: go out and get booty from New England. I'm very
- 5:28Speaker 3: interested to see the Texans' offense against the Bills' defense.
- 5:31Speaker 3: And on the flip side of things, Josh Allen has
- 5:33Speaker 3: historically struggled against D'Amico Ryan's defense, mainly because the Texans
- 5:37Speaker 3: don't do anything schematically to confuse the opposition.
- 5:39Speaker 6: They just win those one-on-one battles.
- 5:41Speaker 3: So a fascinating game as these are two teams, to
- 5:44Speaker 3: your point, Dunaway, I think very much are going to
- 5:46Speaker 3: be in the thick of things to win the AFC
- 5:47Speaker 3: when we get to January.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Todd Furman is with us, Bet the Board podcast, part
- 5:50Speaker 2: of Sporting State, at Todd Furman on social media. And
- 5:53Speaker 2: he joins us throughout the football season, throughout the year,
- 5:56Speaker 2: in fact. And we love talking football with Furman. As
- 5:59Speaker 2: the Michigan, Western Michigan game was going final, I texted
- 6:03Speaker 2: Lance knowing how he thinks about the stuff he does
- 6:06Speaker 2: at Lance's Lock and the games he picks. And all
- 6:09Speaker 2: I said was, you won't be able to set the
- 6:12Speaker 2: number high enough to keep people off Oklahoma on this
- 6:16Speaker 2: coming Saturday. The entire world will want a piece of
- 6:19Speaker 2: Oklahoma going to Michigan. But the fact is that number
- 6:22Speaker 2: came out at five and a half. It has stayed there.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Why has it not fluctuated more?
- 6:26Speaker 3: Well, and on the flip side of that too, Brownie,
- 6:28Speaker 3: you can't set a number low enough to keep LT
- 6:30Speaker 3: off of.
- 6:30Speaker 6: Michigan as a home underdog in this particular spot.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Although, look, I mean, it does violate some of LT's
- 6:37Speaker 3: principles here with it being an early kickoff. So maybe
- 6:39Speaker 3: that keeps him on the sidelines or temper some of
- 6:42Speaker 3: those expectations. But this was a game when we looked
- 6:45Speaker 3: at some of the game of the year numbers that
- 6:46Speaker 3: were widely available across a lot.
- 6:48Speaker 6: Of the national books.
- 6:49Speaker 3: That Michigan was a one and a half, two point favorite.
- 6:51Speaker 3: And I was down on the Wolverines coming into the season.
- 6:54Speaker 3: I did not think though that they would need a
- 6:56Speaker 3: little bit of clock shenanigans and last second heroics to
- 7:00Speaker 3: get through Western Michigan as nearly a four touchdown favorite.
- 7:03Speaker 3: This game did get as high as six, six and
- 7:05Speaker 3: a half with our friends at Hard Rock Bat. Number
- 7:07Speaker 3: has kind of moved down. overwhelming public support for the
- 7:10Speaker 3: Michigan Wolverines here, given the way that the market responded.
- 7:13Speaker 3: But I think what's so different about the dynamic in
- 7:16Speaker 3: play here in the transfer portal era versus the past,
- 7:19Speaker 3: Michigan may really go out there and struggle. And maybe
- 7:22Speaker 3: Oklahoma is just that good. The only way I could
- 7:24Speaker 3: look though, given the line and the way it's overreacted
- 7:27Speaker 3: would be towards the dog. I haven't gotten to the window,
- 7:29Speaker 3: don't see myself backing Michigan, mainly because I have very
- 7:32Speaker 3: little confidence in Bryce Underwood and his ability to move
- 7:34Speaker 3: the football against this OU defense. But on the other
- 7:38Speaker 3: side of things, let's see exactly how Oklahoma looks. Again,
- 7:41Speaker 3: an offense that should be improved this year, but one
- 7:43Speaker 3: that doesn't leave you brimming with confidence, laying more than
- 7:46Speaker 3: a field goal on the road in hostile territory, knowing
- 7:49Speaker 3: Michigan has revenge for a game where they were kind
- 7:51Speaker 3: of blown out last year in Norman.
- 7:52Speaker 5: I mean, I don't know how they're going to do it.
- 7:54Speaker 5: I feel like Michigan's going to win this game, Furman.
- 7:57Speaker 5: I'm staying away because it is 11 o'clock. I thought
- 7:59Speaker 5: those demons were exercised. 0-3 in the 11 o'clock window
- 8:02Speaker 5: last weekend. It killed my weekend, so I'm completely staying away,
- 8:06Speaker 5: but they'll get there somehow.
- 8:07Speaker 2: What if they bench Bryce Underwood and they bring in
- 8:09Speaker 2: the car kid, CJ's little brother? And he's a superstar.
- 8:13Speaker 2: What if that's who Kyle Whittingham wants in there? Is
- 8:16Speaker 2: that a path to victory?
- 8:18Speaker 4: You know what's interesting about that, Furman?
- 8:20Speaker 5: Does Whittingham have the power with the money they paid
- 8:24Speaker 5: him and whoever those board of trustee guys are that
- 8:26Speaker 5: want Bryce Underwood to succeed?
- 8:28Speaker 4: I don't think he can pull the trigger, can he?
- 8:30Speaker 6: I don't think he can do it yet.
- 8:31Speaker 3: If Bryce Underwood would go out there and struggle and
- 8:33Speaker 3: Oklahoma were to win the game by three touchdowns going away,
- 8:36Speaker 3: then I think he might have carte blanche and they
- 8:38Speaker 3: might see the money that they invested in Bryce Underwood
- 8:40Speaker 3: through NIL as kind of a sunk cost. What I
- 8:43Speaker 3: think is so interesting, though, is we continue to monitor
- 8:45Speaker 3: the Michigan dynamics and we're going to find out exactly.
- 8:48Speaker 6: Who this team can be tomorrow.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Is that because Michigan invested so much money in Bryce Underwood,
- 8:54Speaker 3: if you were to give truth serum to Jason Beck
- 8:56Speaker 3: and Kyle Whittingham, would they have preferred to take Devin
- 8:59Speaker 3: Dampier from Utah or maybe even Bird Fickling to lead
- 9:02Speaker 3: their offense? Because suddenly if you're now 1-1, and I'll
- 9:05Speaker 3: call them 0-2 because they shouldn't have won that Western
- 9:08Speaker 3: Michigan game, maybe that gives them the lifeline to just
- 9:10Speaker 3: throw Tommy Carr to the Wolves and say, we just
- 9:12Speaker 3: don't see Bryce Underwood being able to scratch the surface
- 9:14Speaker 3: of a ceiling that allows us to be competitive in
- 9:16Speaker 3: conference play.
- 9:17Speaker 5: Okay, away from that 11 o'clock window, 2.30 Central. Not
- 9:20Speaker 5: even a sneaky good game. This is going to, at
- 9:22Speaker 5: least on paper, in the Big 12. Big game, Arizona
- 9:25Speaker 5: going to Provo to take on BYU. I played Arizona
- 9:29Speaker 5: two years ago when they got dominated. Noah Fafita got
- 9:31Speaker 5: thrown around in that game. It goes to double overtime
- 9:34Speaker 5: last year. I think BYU is going to be really,
- 9:37Speaker 5: really good this year. But Arizona catching 7.5 with Fafita,
- 9:42Speaker 5: your active FBS leader in touchdown passes. Seems like maybe
- 9:46Speaker 5: a pretty good spot for Brennan and the Wildcats.
- 9:50Speaker 6: And I was on Arizona last year.
- 9:51Speaker 3: I thought it was a bad beat when they couldn't
- 9:53Speaker 3: recover a fumble inside the red zone, allowed BYU to
- 9:56Speaker 3: get outside the number, depending on how you bet it.
- 9:58Speaker 6: A game that was marred by Westbrook. delays.
- 10:00Speaker 3: It felt like that thing went on for about six
- 10:02Speaker 3: and a half hours between those two teams. But you
- 10:04Speaker 3: mentioned this Arizona team with the veteran experience they have
- 10:07Speaker 3: at quarterback in Noah Fafita. The offense for Arizona doesn't
- 10:11Speaker 3: concern me in this spot, but I am curious to
- 10:13Speaker 3: see how the defense responds, stepping up in class. The
- 10:16Speaker 3: game against NAU last week, You know, they pitched a
- 10:18Speaker 3: de facto shutout. It was a pick six that got
- 10:20Speaker 3: NAU in the backdoor late in the 35-7 final. But
- 10:23Speaker 3: this is also a Wildcats secondary that was the strength
- 10:26Speaker 3: of the team last year. All of their players that
- 10:28Speaker 3: played meaningful snaps were drafted into the National Football League.
- 10:32Speaker 3: So we'll see how they look against Bear Bachmeier and company.
- 10:35Speaker 3: But I'm not nearly as high on BYU as the
- 10:37Speaker 3: market in terms of their postseason expectations. and ability to
- 10:41Speaker 3: win the Big 12. And it's something that I'm willing
- 10:43Speaker 3: to take a little bit of egg on the face.
- 10:44Speaker 3: So I would echo your sentiment there that I think
- 10:46Speaker 3: Arizona at 7.5 or better makes for a live underdog,
- 10:49Speaker 3: especially when you can continue to see this total being
- 10:52Speaker 3: bet down from 50.5, now down to 47.
- 10:55Speaker 6: Also monitor Arizona's player availability.
- 10:58Speaker 3: They had one of their key cogs defensively at linebacker,
- 11:01Speaker 3: get a little bit of a stay of execution with
- 11:03Speaker 3: the TROs and everything else that's going on. And they
- 11:05Speaker 3: may also have Ishmael Mahdi, the Texas state transfer, who
- 11:09Speaker 3: was their leading back a year ago, available to get
- 11:11Speaker 3: some meaningful reps tomorrow as well.
- 11:15Speaker 1: You know, Alabama is walking into their SEC opener at Kentucky.
- 11:21Speaker 1: And for some reason, when I read and listen to
- 11:23Speaker 1: people around the country, they're talking about Kentucky players as
- 11:27Speaker 1: a potential upset team this weekend. When you look at
- 11:30Speaker 1: the tide after what you saw last week against a
- 11:33Speaker 1: lesser opponent, what do you make of Alabama at Kentucky?
- 11:37Speaker 3: So I'll give Alabama credit. They took care of an
- 11:39Speaker 3: inferior opponent like I wanted to see, went out there
- 11:42Speaker 3: and dominated. They showed an ability to run the football
- 11:45Speaker 3: even against the G16 that I think will rebuild. Something
- 11:47Speaker 3: that I'm not sure they would have been able to
- 11:49Speaker 3: accomplish a year ago. You know, love the dual threat
- 11:52Speaker 3: ability of Keelan Russell, his willingness to take off from
- 11:55Speaker 3: the pocket, knowing that the offensive line, at least for me,
- 11:57Speaker 3: appears a little bit more unsettled at Alabama than they
- 12:00Speaker 3: would like going into their conference opener this weekend. Defensively,
- 12:04Speaker 3: it was just essentially one coverage bust. Other than that,
- 12:07Speaker 3: they were pretty buttoned up against ECU.
- 12:10Speaker 6: But this will be an electric home field.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Atmosphere for Kentucky, and it's not something that we can
- 12:14Speaker 3: say often about what the Wildcats have working for them
- 12:17Speaker 3: at Kroger Field. Kentucky, though, very good against a top-10
- 12:20Speaker 3: FCS opponent in Youngstown State, exceeded oddsmakers' expectations as more
- 12:24Speaker 3: than a three-touchdown favorite. And I think Kenny Minchey flew
- 12:27Speaker 3: under the radar a little bit in terms of what
- 12:29Speaker 3: kind of expectations we can have for him leading a
- 12:32Speaker 3: Will Stein offense.
- 12:33Speaker 6: This Kentucky offensive line, probably a little bit.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Better than advertised, and there is no doubt Will Stein
- 12:38Speaker 3: would love nothing more than to announce his presence with
- 12:41Speaker 3: authority as the new head coach in Lexington, then with
- 12:44Speaker 3: an upset win, catching double digits against Alabama. I lean
- 12:47Speaker 3: towards Kentucky plus the 10. I haven't quite gotten there yet.
- 12:50Speaker 3: A little bit surprised to see some under money come
- 12:52Speaker 3: in on this game as well. Total did get as
- 12:54Speaker 3: high as 50, 50 and a half. So if I
- 12:56Speaker 3: think Kentucky can get there, I might be inclined guys
- 12:59Speaker 3: to look at that team total if it's under that
- 13:01Speaker 3: three touchdown threshold, because I just don't see a path
- 13:03Speaker 3: for Kentucky to pull off an upset or even cover
- 13:05Speaker 3: 10 if they can't get to 21 points against this
- 13:08Speaker 3: Alabama team.
- 13:08Speaker 6: 27-17.
- 13:09Speaker 2: 27-17 is my pick for Alabama. Dunaway's got him by 10,
- 13:13Speaker 2: just under that 10.
- 13:13Speaker 3: All right, so Dunaway's going under the total. He's going
- 13:16Speaker 3: under my team total, and he's calling the game a push.
- 13:18Speaker 3: So Kentucky over 20.5 team total it is. I'll have
- 13:21Speaker 3: to bet that as soon as I get off it.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Furman, let's talk about the big game at night. Ohio
- 13:26Speaker 2: State is at Texas. This has been a difficult team
- 13:29Speaker 2: for Texas to handle. For whatever reason, Ohio State's had
- 13:31Speaker 2: their number the last few times they have met. What
- 13:34Speaker 2: do you see in this game Saturday night?
- 13:37Speaker 3: We talk about early season games being meaningful, and Texas
- 13:40Speaker 3: against Texas State last weekend taught us nothing. Ohio State
- 13:43Speaker 3: against Ball State taught us nothing as well. Other than
- 13:45Speaker 3: the fact that Ohio State did play with a little
- 13:47Speaker 3: bit more tempo than what we saw a season ago,
- 13:50Speaker 3: I'm not saying they're playing at breakneck pace like FAU,
- 13:53Speaker 3: but even if they're average players, I think that makes
- 13:56Speaker 3: them a little bit more dynamic and harder to defend
- 13:58Speaker 3: knowing how many playmakers they have. So we can start
- 14:00Speaker 3: with the Texas side where I want to see how
- 14:02Speaker 3: this offense operates when they get into plus territory. One
- 14:05Speaker 3: of the big issues that Steve Sarkeesian has continued to
- 14:07Speaker 3: face when he steps up in class is Texas comes
- 14:10Speaker 3: away with field goals. His play calling in the green
- 14:12Speaker 3: zone and red zone is far from where it needs
- 14:14Speaker 3: to be. when you have, at least on paper, elite playmakers.
- 14:18Speaker 3: And maybe it's a little bit different for the triplets
- 14:19Speaker 3: that Texas has this year. Cam Coleman, you know, a
- 14:22Speaker 3: guy that you can just throw a jump ball to
- 14:24Speaker 3: in the red zone, and there's a good chance he's
- 14:26Speaker 3: going to go up there and get it. Hollywood Smothers,
- 14:28Speaker 3: a little bit more dynamic as a runner. And we'll
- 14:30Speaker 3: see how Texas goes out there to defend Julian Sane
- 14:33Speaker 3: and company. On the other side for Ohio State, they
- 14:36Speaker 3: have to be aggressive, throwing the football downfield early and often.
- 14:39Speaker 3: And in my opinion, they handle Julian Sane with kid gloves.
- 14:42Speaker 3: for extended stretches last year, and I think it kind
- 14:44Speaker 3: of neutered their offense. Look, you have Jeremiah Smith, who
- 14:47Speaker 3: is essentially a Ferrari. You don't drive him 25 miles
- 14:50Speaker 3: an hour to the local grocery store. You get him
- 14:53Speaker 3: out in space, and you let him try and operate
- 14:54Speaker 3: in a game of this magnitude. I think the number
- 14:57Speaker 3: is extremely fair because I do have Ohio State about
- 14:59Speaker 3: a point, point and a half better.
- 15:00Speaker 6: On a neutral.
- 15:01Speaker 3: If I give Texas the benefit of the doubt for
- 15:03Speaker 3: home field in this environment, we'll call it three points.
- 15:06Speaker 3: So the number right in line with me, I am
- 15:08Speaker 3: a little bit surprised to see that it's the general
- 15:10Speaker 3: public backing this garlic and gray here. Curious to see
- 15:13Speaker 3: where the next move comes. But I think the game
- 15:15Speaker 3: can have a little bit more fireworks than this total
- 15:18Speaker 3: suggests sitting in the high 40. So if I were
- 15:20Speaker 3: to get involved in the marquee and again, full transparency,
- 15:23Speaker 3: don't have a bet on it yet. I'd be closer
- 15:25Speaker 3: to betting this game over the total than I would
- 15:27Speaker 3: be trying to back a side in Ohio State, Texas.
- 15:30Speaker 5: Furman, another SEC team kind of in that window. Tennessee
- 15:34Speaker 5: rolls into Atlanta. Bobby Dodd to take on Georgia Tech.
- 15:37Speaker 5: I've got Georgia Tech's team total under the 6.5 this year.
- 15:41Speaker 4: I love the start to that. I backed Colorado last week.
- 15:43Speaker 5: I think Tennessee's going to be sneaky good, but for
- 15:46Speaker 5: whatever reason, I like the rambling rec plus 12.5 here.
- 15:50Speaker 5: Just seems like a lot of points for a freshman,
- 15:53Speaker 5: his first road start in Faison Branded.
- 15:56Speaker 3: So I'll admit, this is a game that I bet
- 15:57Speaker 3: on the open. I did lay some 12.5. The market
- 16:00Speaker 3: has actually moved against me here. And all the points
- 16:02Speaker 3: that you raise around Tennessee with Faison Brandon making his
- 16:06Speaker 3: true road debut are definitely valid. The problem that I
- 16:09Speaker 3: have with Georgia Tech, despite some of the underlying analytics
- 16:12Speaker 3: that say they were a little bit better against Colorado
- 16:14Speaker 3: than that final score showed, they lack some of the
- 16:16Speaker 3: creativity on offense that I think an offensive coordinator, Buster Faulkner,
- 16:20Speaker 3: gave them. Defensively, they were pushed around a little bit
- 16:23Speaker 3: more than I would like to see by Colorado in
- 16:25Speaker 3: the trenches. And while the yard per play numbers weren't
- 16:27Speaker 3: bad defensively, when Colorado got themselves into a high leverage spot,
- 16:31Speaker 3: they were able to move the football. And I think
- 16:33Speaker 3: some of those numbers were a little bit understated given
- 16:36Speaker 3: that Julian Lewis missed receivers that if you guys watch
- 16:39Speaker 3: the game, as I know you do, were wide open.
- 16:41Speaker 3: And there were a couple of explosive plays. So if
- 16:43Speaker 3: Faison Brandon is able to get into rhythm here, I
- 16:46Speaker 3: think Tennessee has too much firepower for Georgia Tech to
- 16:48Speaker 3: keep up. I do respect Tech being able to bounce back,
- 16:51Speaker 3: having extra time to prepare defensively. and at least having
- 16:53Speaker 3: a meaningful game under their belt against Colorado instead of
- 16:57Speaker 3: Tennessee steamrolling an FCS opponent in Furman. But this is
- 17:01Speaker 3: a rare spot where I made the case with a
- 17:03Speaker 3: road favorite here. I know people see buying Georgia Tech
- 17:05Speaker 3: at the bottom of the market. I'm just not high
- 17:07Speaker 3: much like you, LT, on Georgia Tech, so I'm willing
- 17:09Speaker 3: to pay the price to see if Tennessee can go
- 17:11Speaker 3: out there and win by two touchdowns.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Another SEC Big Ten bragging rights game off of Broadway, though,
- 17:19Speaker 1: Mississippi State and Super Camario on the road at Minnesota.
- 17:24Speaker 1: I'm so interested in watching this game, 3.30 Eastern, 2.30
- 17:27Speaker 1: Central on CBS. What do you think of Super Camario,
- 17:32Speaker 1: and does State have a chance to upset Big Ten Minnesota?
- 17:35Speaker 3: To your point, Dunaway, I think this is one of
- 17:37Speaker 3: the most fascinating games of the entire weekend that's not
- 17:40Speaker 3: getting nearly enough buzz. Because when we look at the
- 17:42Speaker 3: pecking order in the Big Ten and the SEC, this
- 17:45Speaker 3: is going to serve as one of the more useful
- 17:47Speaker 3: litmus tests that we're going to get all season long.
- 17:50Speaker 3: Because if Minnesota finishes in that middle of the Big Ten,
- 17:52Speaker 3: right below some of the heavyweights, and has a win
- 17:55Speaker 3: on their resume over Mississippi State team that I think
- 17:57Speaker 3: is better than advertised, it's.
- 17:59Speaker 6: Going to go a long way.
- 18:00Speaker 3: You mentioned Kamario Taylor and a perfect tune-up against Louisiana Monroe.
- 18:04Speaker 3: I mean, they were able to go out there, they
- 18:06Speaker 3: were able to run, they were able to throw, and
- 18:08Speaker 3: the defense looked the part. against the ULN team that
- 18:10Speaker 3: didn't offer much in the way of a dual threat.
- 18:13Speaker 3: Different dynamic here against a very experienced Minnesota team, and
- 18:16Speaker 3: more importantly, an experienced quarterback in Drake Lindsey. Minnesota played
- 18:20Speaker 3: a little bit quicker than I expected in their opener,
- 18:23Speaker 3: and they weren't exactly tested against an FCS foe themselves.
- 18:27Speaker 3: I look at this game and want to use this
- 18:29Speaker 3: more to kind of adjust my power ratings than make
- 18:31Speaker 3: a strong case either way. But a fun under-the-radar matchup
- 18:35Speaker 3: between Jeff Lebby and Kamario Taylor on one side, Drake
- 18:38Speaker 3: Lindsey and PJ Fleck on the other. But credit to
- 18:41Speaker 3: Mississippi State, these are the kind of games that you
- 18:43Speaker 3: love to see where teams from the SEC and Big
- 18:46Speaker 3: Ten go on the road to take on a power
- 18:48Speaker 3: conference opponent, and they're going to do it in a
- 18:51Speaker 3: true home field atmosphere. I would love to try and
- 18:53Speaker 3: see more of this, especially in the early portion of
- 18:55Speaker 3: the season. Maybe not from the big boys in the conference,
- 18:58Speaker 3: but especially from the teams that are in that mushy middle,
- 19:01Speaker 3: so to speak.
- 19:01Speaker 2: All right, they love the under-the-radar pick out of you, Furman.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Where are you going this week? A game that will
- 19:06Speaker 2: fly under most people's radar, but Todd Furman's been looking
- 19:08Speaker 2: at it all week.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Yeah, mixed bag last week. I mean, Liberty made a
- 19:13Speaker 3: case for them on the money line. They come up
- 19:14Speaker 3: just short, losing 20-13. Just weren't able to execute late
- 19:18Speaker 3: in that contest, but in my opinion, were the better
- 19:19Speaker 3: team in the second half. And then a game, like
- 19:21Speaker 3: I said, that just narrowly missed, of course, becomes a
- 19:24Speaker 3: four-touchdown-plus rocking chair for the late-night affair with Nevada absolutely
- 19:28Speaker 3: obliterating Western Kentucky. So this is going to have a
- 19:32Speaker 3: little bit of a Service Academy theme to it, and
- 19:34Speaker 3: it wasn't by design as we sit here 25 years
- 19:36Speaker 3: after 9-11. And you mentioned flying under the radar, an
- 19:40Speaker 3: unintentional pun from you, Brownie, but we're going to go
- 19:42Speaker 3: to Colorado Springs. And I know it's not the best
- 19:45Speaker 3: of the number here with Air Force, but this is
- 19:47Speaker 3: a North Dakota state team getting a lot of buzz.
- 19:49Speaker 3: I was a little bit surprised to see them open
- 19:51Speaker 3: as more than a field goal favorite in this particular atmosphere,
- 19:54Speaker 3: a conference game at that. And I think Air Force
- 19:57Speaker 3: is sneaky good this year. So give me the Air
- 19:59Speaker 3: Force Falcons plus the two and a half would have
- 20:01Speaker 3: no issues if you wanted to bet them on the
- 20:03Speaker 3: money line.
- 20:04Speaker 6: Against North Dakota State.
- 20:05Speaker 3: And we'll go to one of the other Service Academy
- 20:07Speaker 3: games as well down in Boca Raton where it's FAU
- 20:10Speaker 3: catching four and a half against Navy. This Navy team
- 20:13Speaker 3: for me was a little bit of a sell despite
- 20:15Speaker 3: being the favorite at Hard Rock Bat to win the
- 20:18Speaker 3: AAC before the year started. I think Blake Horvath covered
- 20:21Speaker 3: up a lot of the things that this team couldn't
- 20:23Speaker 3: do on the offensive side. Of course, we saw FAU
- 20:26Speaker 3: get absolutely annihilated in John Summerall's debut. But I think
- 20:29Speaker 3: the Owls are alive and a sneaky threat to maybe
- 20:32Speaker 3: be a lot more competitive in the AAC. So given
- 20:35Speaker 3: the fact that this game has higher variance, I'm not
- 20:37Speaker 3: even going to take the four and a half with FAU,
- 20:38Speaker 3: much like we did with Liberty. I'm going to back
- 20:40Speaker 3: them on the money line because I get the feeling
- 20:42Speaker 3: we're going to be dead right or dead wrong.
- 20:44Speaker 6: Between the Owls and the midshipmen.
- 20:46Speaker 2: They may have gotten obliterated, but they moved the ball
- 20:48Speaker 2: on Florida. I mean, Summerall was pissed. They're much improved. Yeah,
- 20:51Speaker 2: Summerall was pissed about the defense.
- 20:52Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a team that's got, you know, honestly, I mean,
- 20:54Speaker 3: they play at a breakneck pace, one of the fastest
- 20:57Speaker 3: in the country. Caden Vellkamp has a ton of experience
- 20:59Speaker 3: under center. And if he can avoid the turnovers, they
- 21:02Speaker 3: do have some of those quick strikes. The challenge in
- 21:04Speaker 3: a game like this, even if you're FAU and you're
- 21:06Speaker 3: putting up quick sevens, just puts your defense behind the
- 21:08Speaker 3: eight ball because you're out there for those long drives.
- 21:10Speaker 3: But I'm going to pay to see Navy win on
- 21:13Speaker 3: the road against the team that they embarrassed a season ago.
- 21:16Speaker 3: So I was a little bit stronger in FAU coming
- 21:18Speaker 3: into the year than the market. I'll take my chances
- 21:20Speaker 3: to make a statement here and hope they're not too
- 21:22Speaker 3: banged up coming out of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium after last.
- 21:25Speaker 6: Week against the game.
- 21:26Speaker 1: That would be the first loss of a playoff bracket
- 21:29Speaker 1: pick on this show. I had Navy in my 12-team
- 21:31Speaker 1: playoff as the G6 rep, so that's got to make.
- 21:34Speaker 2: You feel good.
- 21:35Speaker 6: It makes me feel a lot better.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Sleep well tonight, Dan Brent.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Double down on my position on the FAU money line
- 21:41Speaker 3: now that you've shared that little tidbit with us.
- 21:43Speaker 2: All right, he is Todd Furman. Follow him on social media,
- 21:45Speaker 2: Todd Furman. See Bet the Board podcast, part of Sport
- 21:48Speaker 2: and State, sportandstate.com. Furman, enjoy the games this weekend, my man.
- 21:53Speaker 2: We'll see you next Friday.
- 21:54Speaker 6: Always a pleasure. Hey, one final thing.
- 21:56Speaker 3: LT, at least the Rams getting blown out on a
- 21:58Speaker 3: Thursday night means you can enjoy your Sunday, my friend.
- 22:00Speaker 4: Ah, very true, Furman.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Thank you for the silver lining.
- 22:03Speaker 4: Really, really appreciate that.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Nope, it's within 72 hours. He can enjoy Monday night.
- 22:08Speaker 1: He'll enjoy Monday night.
- 22:09Speaker 5: By the way, were there any dumbasses out there that
- 22:12Speaker 5: actually took the Rams to have a perfect season?
- 22:14Speaker 4: I mean, was that a prop that you could find anywhere?
- 22:16Speaker 6: I mean, if you read the.
- 22:17Speaker 3: LA Times, I think Bill Plaschke had them to go
- 22:20Speaker 3: undefeated and win the Super Bowl. So at least we
- 22:22Speaker 3: put that to bed pretty quickly. And I mean, in
- 22:25Speaker 3: this day and age, I don't think any of these
- 22:26Speaker 3: teams have aspirations of going 17-0. It probably feels like
- 22:30Speaker 3: an albatross around your neck more than anything else. But
- 22:33Speaker 3: there's always a prop out there. I haven't seen the
- 22:35Speaker 3: price and what it's been bet down to that you
- 22:37Speaker 3: can just get any team in the league to go 17-0.
- 22:40Speaker 3: But it's typically gouging. I mean, more often than not,
- 22:42Speaker 3: it's right around that 12-1, 15-1 range. And by week
- 22:45Speaker 3: five or week six, it feels like we already have
- 22:48Speaker 3: each of 32 teams saddled with a defeat.
- 22:50Speaker 4: Well, that's why the public is so bad at the NFL.
- 22:53Speaker 5: I mean, the probability for the Rams winning the Super
- 22:56Speaker 5: Bowl was 17% going into the season. I mean, only
- 22:59Speaker 5: four of the last 33 favorites have won a Super Bowl.
- 23:02Speaker 5: It's just not something you can just roll a team
- 23:04Speaker 5: out there and they win Super Bowls.
- 23:06Speaker 4: It doesn't happen.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Well, and their numbers already drifted out. I mean, it
- 23:09Speaker 3: was 5-1 going into the game last night. The number's
- 23:11Speaker 3: now out to 6-1, and they may end up being
- 23:14Speaker 3: the number one team in the league. I'm not going
- 23:15Speaker 3: to do much in terms of adjusting their power rating down,
- 23:18Speaker 3: but I can find a lot better ways to tie
- 23:20Speaker 3: up my money than betting a short shot to win
- 23:23Speaker 3: the Super Bowl.
- 23:24Speaker 6: I'd rather know that Matthew Stafford.
- 23:26Speaker 3: Was healthy and that they were humming on all cylinders
- 23:28Speaker 3: than and take a price at three and a half
- 23:29Speaker 3: or four to one, you know, early on in December,
- 23:32Speaker 3: especially given how competitive that division may be, that you
- 23:35Speaker 3: could finish the number one power rated team in the league.
- 23:37Speaker 3: And much like last year, still have one of the
- 23:39Speaker 3: more difficult roads to try and navigate through going on
- 23:42Speaker 3: the road throughout the course of the playoffs.
- 23:43Speaker 6: All right.
- 23:43Speaker 2: I know I wrapped you up, but I just saw
- 23:44Speaker 2: this as, as we were wrapping here, Brian Edwards, who
- 23:47Speaker 2: covers the gambling industry on, on social media says he's
- 23:52Speaker 2: got a look ahead. He's seen a look ahead. Number
- 23:54Speaker 2: is Florida, a two and a half point favorite at
- 23:56Speaker 2: Auburn next week. Does that sound high to you?
- 23:59Speaker 6: So earlier this summer, that game was right around a pick.
- 24:02Speaker 3: So it wouldn't surprise me given Florida's dominant win last
- 24:06Speaker 3: weekend against FAU and exceeding expectations as a 24 and
- 24:09Speaker 3: a half, 25 point favorite and Auburn kind of struggling
- 24:13Speaker 3: to get that pace and tempo going. I mean, underwhelming
- 24:15Speaker 3: with a 17-16 win. So I can see the market
- 24:18Speaker 3: kind of leaking a little bit. Auburn should have a tune-up.
- 24:21Speaker 3: I think they're going to look better offensively. And look,
- 24:23Speaker 3: for me, unless something drastically changes, I was down on
- 24:26Speaker 3: Florida a little bit more because of the schedule than
- 24:29Speaker 3: the personnel and the coaching. But I'd love the opportunity
- 24:31Speaker 3: to be able to grab Auburn if they were a
- 24:33Speaker 3: full field goal underdog at Jordan-Hare next week. I think
- 24:35Speaker 3: that's the first big statement game for those two teams
- 24:38Speaker 3: in the SEC that want to try and be on
- 24:40Speaker 3: the ascent.
- 24:41Speaker 2: All right, wrap-up number two. Thank you, Furman. Have a
- 24:43Speaker 2: good weekend. We appreciate it.
- 24:44Speaker 6: Always a pleasure, boys.
- 24:45Speaker 2: All right, see you. Todd Furman with us from out

- 24:48Speaker 2: he loves it when his 15-minute segment goes 25. I know.

- 25:56Speaker 1: college football discussion, including... The Big Ten SEC showdowns against
- 26:01Speaker 1: each other and television ratings from week one. Surprising numbers?
- 26:08Speaker 2: I think so. We'll tell you why next on Sporting State.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Some surprising TV numbers from week one. Surprising to me anyway.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Before you show them, Forrester, have you seen any TV ratings? Yeah,
- 26:21Speaker 2: I did. I was surprised at who was number one. Okay,
- 26:23Speaker 2: were you surprised at... I wasn't surprised at who was
- 26:25Speaker 2: number one. I was surprised by the total viewers. Yeah,
- 26:29Speaker 2: I guess so, too. That did feel pretty high for
- 26:31Speaker 2: that game, yeah. No, it felt pretty low to me. Oh,
- 26:34Speaker 2: it was a terrible game. I'm just saying, the most
- 26:37Speaker 2: watched game of the week is only 7.4 million? I
- 26:41Speaker 2: thought it was in the eights. Was it 7.4? I
- 26:43Speaker 2: thought it was 7.4. It was Notre Dame and Wisconsin
- 26:45Speaker 2: was the most viewed game, right? Wisconsin, Notre Dame, the
- 26:48Speaker 2: most viewed.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Is that 7.4 or 7.7, Forrester, there?
- 26:52Speaker 4: 7.4.
- 26:53Speaker 2: It's 7.4. Michelson, Vision. Yeah, 2015. That's with the red
- 26:58Speaker 2: on black, you know. Blue on black. Clemson LSU was
- 27:02Speaker 2: a blowout, too, but that's a massively low number for
- 27:05Speaker 2: prime time, 5.5.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Washington State-Washington day game on a Sunday was the third
- 27:12Speaker 1: most watched game going all the way down through there.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Western Michigan-Michigan, I probably didn't think that was going to
- 27:18Speaker 1: be the seventh most watched game of the week.
- 27:21Speaker 2: The delay on Monday night, the eighth most watched game. No,
- 27:23Speaker 2: I'm surprised that Notre Dame, I mean, I'm not surprised
- 27:26Speaker 2: by the viewership of Notre Dame, Wisconsin. You're saying it's
- 27:28Speaker 2: lower than you think. I know Notre Dame was playing,
- 27:30Speaker 2: but it was an awful football game.
- 27:31Speaker 5: Yeah, but for them to almost double up what you
- 27:33Speaker 5: got with the best game of the weekend, I mean,
- 27:36Speaker 5: that shows you the power of the Notre Dame brand.
- 27:37Speaker 2: No, that's what I'm saying. Jim says he's surprised it's
- 27:40Speaker 2: as low as it is. Yeah, I'm surprised at how
- 27:41Speaker 2: low the overall number is. Like, the number one rated
- 27:45Speaker 2: game with every week should be higher than 7.4 million
- 27:48Speaker 2: in my opinion.
- 27:49Speaker 5: Well just imagine if louisville old miss would have been
- 27:52Speaker 5: miami and georgia like how big would that number.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Be because remember i said i thought this saturday night
- 27:59Speaker 1: ohio state texas game is going to go over 20
- 28:03Speaker 1: and after seeing 7.4 million is the number one that
- 28:07Speaker 1: seems to be That seems like I'm going to throw
- 28:09Speaker 1: a pass over that mountain over there.
- 28:11Speaker 4: What do you think?
- 28:11Speaker 2: So last year that would have put, what, 7.4 million
- 28:14Speaker 2: is the number we're looking for? Last year that would
- 28:16Speaker 2: have been LSU-Alabama. 37th most viewed game of the season
- 28:20Speaker 2: last year was LSU-Alabama. Number one in week one when
- 28:24Speaker 2: we were all hungry for football was the 37th most
- 28:28Speaker 2: viewed game. It's way too early to say this, but
- 28:31Speaker 2: there will be a lot of people watching the numbers
- 28:33Speaker 2: this year to see if this offseason with all the
- 28:36Speaker 2: NIL and the courts and all that as starting to
- 28:39Speaker 2: whittle away at the viewership. So the Sunday night game
- 28:42Speaker 2: last year was Notre Dame-Miami, right? Am I right about that?
- 28:44Speaker 2: I think so, yes. That had 10.8 million viewers on ABC.
- 28:49Speaker 2: But you've got to remember, you had head-to-head games. You
- 28:52Speaker 2: had NBC with a game and ABC with a game.
- 28:54Speaker 2: And the ABC game was the better of the two games.
- 28:56Speaker 2: That's right. That's right. But the brand was Notre Dame.
- 28:59Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Yeah. So I don't know that I would jump to
- 29:03Speaker 2: that conclusion. Because if I remember, correct me if I'm wrong,
- 29:05Speaker 2: that Notre Dame-Miami game was standalone last year. Yeah, it was.
- 29:09Speaker 2: 10.8 million on ABC. And so 14 million people, to
- 29:12Speaker 2: your point, were watching college football. Yeah, I would not
- 29:14Speaker 2: draw the conclusion you drew there.
- 29:16Speaker 5: Yeah, that does make sense when you think about it
- 29:18Speaker 5: like that. What do you guys think the number was
- 29:20Speaker 5: from Netflix last night? Because I got a problem. Netflix
- 29:23Speaker 5: is now charging me $ 44. 99. I think there was a
- 29:26Speaker 5: time I was paying $ 15. I think that's universal. Tyler,
- 29:29Speaker 5: you look like that's great. Do you not have Netflix?
- 29:30Speaker 4: I don't have Netflix.
- 29:31Speaker 5: I got rid of it just because they always get
- 29:34Speaker 5: rid of good shows and keep around the trash ones.
- 29:36Speaker 4: But it used to be $ 8 a month. Okay, here's
- 29:39Speaker 4: the horseshit about it.
- 29:40Speaker 3: It.
- 29:41Speaker 4: You get commercials now.
- 29:42Speaker 5: Look, I know that our man, Ian Eagle, has got
- 29:46Speaker 5: to take him a little break. He's got to have
- 29:48Speaker 5: a water and bathroom break. I get that, but do
- 29:49Speaker 5: something else. Show the dumb girl with the gloves on.
- 29:52Speaker 5: Figure something out.
- 29:53Speaker 2: So you want commercial free on Netflix?
- 29:55Speaker 4: Well, I just don't want that. I'm paying $ 44. 99, and
- 29:59Speaker 4: you're going to jam me up, and you're going to
- 30:00Speaker 4: make more money on this?
- 30:01Speaker 2: I am paying for it.
- 30:02Speaker 4: Yeah, it's pathetic.
- 30:03Speaker 2: I mean, I'm fine with commercials and stuff I don't
- 30:05Speaker 2: pay for. But what do you think the number would be?
- 30:08Speaker 2: $ 23. 7 million for the Christmas game they had. So it'll
- 30:10Speaker 2: be less than that. Yeah. Yeah. So tell us about XXXY, Brownie.
- 30:16Speaker 2: It is the T that started a movement, XXXY Clothing.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Jennifer Say, she was an executive with Levi's Company. And
- 30:27Speaker 2: rather than say something she didn't believe in, she was
- 30:29Speaker 2: their brand president. She walked away from that corporate job
- 30:33Speaker 2: and started her own company, XXXY Athletics. Their mission, empower
- 30:38Speaker 2: female athletes and take a stand for fair competition. That's
- 30:41Speaker 2: why they call it the T that launched a movement.
- 30:44Speaker 2: And it's real athletic apparel that you can get. It's
- 30:47Speaker 2: not just a slogan on a shirt. It's performance tops.
- 30:50Speaker 2: It's tanks. It's sports bras, leggings, shorts, training sets. Hoodies, hats,
- 30:54Speaker 2: graphic tees. They've got men's clothing. They've got women's clothing.
- 30:58Speaker 2: It's clothing worn by athletes who've actually put something on
- 31:01Speaker 2: the line. And new customers get 20% off their first
- 31:04Speaker 2: order when you sign up. Free shipping over $ 100. XXXYAthletics.com.
- 31:09Speaker 2: That's the website. You can see also the Nashville Balls gear,
- 31:13Speaker 2: their official gear, Clay Travis Future WNBA franchise, right there
- 31:16Speaker 2: at XXXYAthletics. XX-XYAthletics.com.
- 31:22Speaker 1: What are you paying On Netflix. I pulled up my
- 31:26Speaker 1: checking account. And by the way, somebody ate at Jack
- 31:30Speaker 1: Brown in my family.
- 31:31Speaker 2: I didn't know that. On your dollar? Yeah, Netflix, $ 29. 15
- 31:35Speaker 2: a month for me. I don't know what I'm paying.
- 31:37Speaker 3: $ 44. 99.
- 31:37Speaker 5: Somebody says I have Netflix, KS Red Mill.
- 31:41Speaker 2: I have Netflix. I'm paying nowhere near $ 44.
- 31:43Speaker 3: 99.
- 31:43Speaker 6: $ 29.
- 31:43Speaker 4: 15 for me.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know what you would be getting for $ 44. 99. Yeah.
- 31:49Speaker 2: That's just Google Netflix subscription price. Yeah, $ 29. 15. If you're
- 31:53Speaker 2: watching around the country on Daily Wire, Lance and I
- 31:57Speaker 2: live about eight minutes away from each other, so I don't.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Why he would be paying one thing and you'd be
- 32:03Speaker 2: paying another. I've got every upgrade I think I could
- 32:05Speaker 2: have on Netflix. Also, $ 29.
- 32:07Speaker 4: 15 is just an odd price.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Yeah. That's what it said in my, I don't know why.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Netflix monthly subscription rates range from $ 8. 99 to $ 26. 99 according
- 32:17Speaker 2: to a quick Google search. So if you're paying $ 4.
- 32:18Speaker 4: 44 something, you're.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Are you paying for multiple accounts? Because you can only
- 32:23Speaker 2: be logged on to four Netflix accounts at once.
- 32:26Speaker 4: That could be something.
- 32:27Speaker 2: That may be it. You may be paying to be
- 32:28Speaker 2: logged on to extra ones. You've got at least two accounts. Okay.
- 32:32Speaker 4: I'll check into it.
- 32:33Speaker 5: Anyway, if I was paying $ 25, I shouldn't have seven
- 32:37Speaker 5: commercials between every break, and there were eight on last night.
- 32:40Speaker 2: As Russell points out, technically you're paying for all of it.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Russell's right in the chat. You're paying subscription for ESPN.
- 32:45Speaker 2: You're paying a subscription for Fox to watch those games, too.
- 32:48Speaker 2: We've just been programmed. I know I'm paying for that
- 32:50Speaker 2: and I know I'm getting commercials there. But when I
- 32:52Speaker 2: pay Netflix or Hulu or whatever, I don't think I'm
- 32:55Speaker 2: getting commercials. Interesting. As we get ready for this college
- 33:00Speaker 2: football weekend, we seem to be putting all the court
- 33:03Speaker 2: stuff behind us. Yesterday, the SEC's presidents and chancellors.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Did their live video call. The LSU president jumped in
- 33:14Speaker 1: real quickly and said, because of legal proceedings, I've been
- 33:17Speaker 1: advised not to participate and jumped out of the call.
- 33:19Speaker 2: I've got a lunch meeting. Then the other 15 sat
- 33:21Speaker 2: there and talked with Commissioner Greg Sankey.
- 33:23Speaker 1: No actions on LSU. They're going to continue to evaluate
- 33:28Speaker 1: and come up with an appropriate resolution. And I had
- 33:32Speaker 1: people hitting me up from Louisiana.
- 33:34Speaker 2: That were like, they didn't break any rules. They didn't roster.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Why are you saying no action taken on LSU? And
- 33:43Speaker 2: I first I sent back and said, well, I said
- 33:45Speaker 2: no action taken on LSU because that's what Pete Thamel reported.
- 33:48Speaker 2: I trust Pete Thamel. That was the wording he used.
- 33:50Speaker 2: But also, I do feel like somewhere down the road,
- 33:54Speaker 2: there is going to be some kind of penalty for
- 33:56Speaker 2: LSU just because of their actions. Right. There's going to
- 33:58Speaker 2: be a financial penalty or something. And then while this
- 34:02Speaker 2: was going on, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry was on Fox
- 34:06Speaker 2: News saying, The Southeastern Conference is not even an organization.
- 34:11Speaker 2: They're just a group of 15 public universities and one
- 34:15Speaker 2: not public university that are state universities that are basically
- 34:19Speaker 2: government run that are decided to be together in a group.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Landry was talking about blowing up the Southeastern Conference as
- 34:26Speaker 2: a conference if they continue down this path while they
- 34:30Speaker 2: were having this president's meeting. And I think, Brownie, you
- 34:32Speaker 2: said it best. It's that guy, Jeff Landry, the Louisiana governor.
- 34:37Speaker 2: that the SEC is the most worried about. Yeah, I
- 34:39Speaker 2: think the school presidents and people are starting to say
- 34:42Speaker 2: this too, like some of the people that cover college football,
- 34:45Speaker 2: like this is the crux of the situation here. They
- 34:48Speaker 2: don't like this guy basically running LSU athletics because they've
- 34:53Speaker 2: got no authority over him.
- 34:54Speaker 1: He looked like he was on Fox News with a
- 34:56Speaker 1: little red button saying– I can do it, SEC. If
- 34:59Speaker 1: you want me to hit it, I can hit it, man.
- 35:01Speaker 5: I am just so glad this story is in season
- 35:03Speaker 5: now because if this was out of season, it would
- 35:05Speaker 5: never die.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Oh, it would be the top story.
- 35:08Speaker 5: And it's a bunch of nothing, really.
- 35:12Speaker 2: What is not a bunch.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Of nothing is the Big Ten that has won three
- 35:16Speaker 1: straight national championships. And now we're to a weekend where
- 35:19Speaker 1: a lot of people are trying to paint this as
- 35:23Speaker 1: a weekend for the Big Ten to flex its muscle
- 35:25Speaker 1: against the SEC or for the SEC to to get.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Some kind of clout back on the Big Ten. What
- 35:33Speaker 2: is a real scenario, the late Joe Dean Jr., who
- 35:35Speaker 2: we lost recently, used to tell me that basketball gets
- 35:38Speaker 2: it right. They do their tournament.
- 35:42Speaker 1: They evaluate teams correctly by strength of schedule and all that.
- 35:46Speaker 2: And you football.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Guys back then were still trying to figure out, using
- 35:50Speaker 1: a computer, who the two teams should play for the
- 35:52Speaker 1: national championship. I do hope we get to a day
- 35:55Speaker 1: we do it more like basketball with strength of schedules
- 35:58Speaker 1: and stuff.
- 35:58Speaker 2: The committee hasn't done that yet.
- 36:00Speaker 1: How important, Lance, do you think this weekend is to
- 36:03Speaker 1: paint a narrative when we get to Selection Sunday on
- 36:06Speaker 1: the strength of the Big Ten and the strength of
- 36:08Speaker 1: the SEC?
- 36:09Speaker 5: Well, it will be interesting if Oklahoma is to lose
- 36:11Speaker 5: at Michigan. Furman makes an interesting point. Nobody's going to
- 36:15Speaker 5: talk about Mississippi State and Minnesota because those are kind
- 36:17Speaker 5: of middling teams, but that can be kind of a
- 36:20Speaker 5: barometer if you're looking– You know, we talk about the
- 36:23Speaker 5: depth of the SEC is better than the Big Ten.
- 36:25Speaker 5: Big Ten at the top is a little bit better.
- 36:27Speaker 5: But that's one of those games that can factor in.
- 36:30Speaker 2: But you use the phrase middling. And I do think
- 36:32Speaker 2: that's how people view Minnesota in the Big Ten. But
- 36:34Speaker 2: I think people view state as the bottom of the SEC,
- 36:37Speaker 2: them and Arkansas. And that's maybe not fair this year.
- 36:39Speaker 2: We'll see. So if you go, if you take one
- 36:42Speaker 2: of your, you know, we're talking perception here. You take
- 36:45Speaker 2: one of your bottom third teams, go on the road,
- 36:48Speaker 2: beat a mid-tier Big Ten team. At their place. At
- 36:51Speaker 2: their place. Whether or not Minnesota is actually mid-tier, we'll
- 36:54Speaker 2: find out. You know, chapel. We'll see when all this
- 36:56Speaker 2: thing's done. Gotcha, guy. But I think the perception, at least,
- 37:00Speaker 2: is one of the lower SEC teams goes on the
- 37:03Speaker 2: road and beats a mid-tier Big Ten team if State
- 37:05Speaker 2: can get that win.
- 37:06Speaker 1: And that's why I'm almost equally as fascinated at the
- 37:10Speaker 1: 9-15 ESPN game with Arkansas going into night. Tough place
- 37:14Speaker 1: to play Utah. That's top-tier Big 12. against the absolute
- 37:19Speaker 1: 16th team it's number 16 and nobody debates who's 16
- 37:22Speaker 1: in the sec and.
- 37:23Speaker 5: That's one of those games like you know if you're
- 37:25Speaker 5: just going full contrarian like arkansas is the play i
- 37:29Speaker 5: can't touch that what's the number there.
- 37:31Speaker 4: Oh it's double digits it's 12 and a half right.
- 37:33Speaker 2: Now it's only 12 and a half in my opinion
- 37:35Speaker 2: because i picture utah being you know i know it's
- 37:38Speaker 2: a first year coach but experienced quarterback tough place to
- 37:41Speaker 2: play And here goes Arkansas, who is absolutely 16 out
- 37:44Speaker 2: of 16 in this league.
- 37:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, Utah should be able to name their score,
- 37:48Speaker 4: but I don't know.
- 37:50Speaker 2: I don't know. I'll watch that game thinking, okay, how
- 37:52Speaker 2: tough is the bottom 16 of 16 in the SEC? Well,
- 37:55Speaker 2: I'll grant you this one. If Arkansas goes in and
- 37:57Speaker 2: pulls that upset, now we've got a storyline here. Yeah.
- 38:02Speaker 2: I mean, if Arkansas plays, now I don't think they're
- 38:03Speaker 2: going to. I'm with you, Lance. I mean, you say
- 38:05Speaker 2: you're not going to.
- 38:06Speaker 5: I mean, the SEC could. I don't think Arkansas will,
- 38:08Speaker 5: but can you imagine if that happened? Because of the
- 38:10Speaker 5: other two games. Mississippi State is now your favorite. Oklahoma's
- 38:15Speaker 5: obviously favored in this game. I mean, it could be
- 38:17Speaker 5: a big day for the SEC.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Can I do this real quick? Yeah. Missouri-Kansas tonight. That's
- 38:22Speaker 2: viewed as mid-tier SEC at? bottom big 12 yeah bottom
- 38:27Speaker 2: big 12 i mean it's a nationally ranked missouri team
- 38:29Speaker 2: but yeah it's now back to the bottom of the
- 38:32Speaker 2: big 12 arizona state at a and m that is
- 38:35Speaker 2: that's high top half sec versus bottom half bottom half
- 38:40Speaker 2: big 12 okay just two.
- 38:41Speaker 5: Years removed from the playoff but right now slightly ahead
- 38:44Speaker 5: of kansas.
- 38:45Speaker 4: Yeah i mean cutter bowie might be the next sam.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Levin oklahoma at michigan that is viewed as top half
- 38:50Speaker 2: sec versus where do.
- 38:51Speaker 5: We have i mean you still got to put on
- 38:53Speaker 5: top half big 10 yeah for sure.
- 38:55Speaker 2: Um State at Minnesota, we just did that one, bottom
- 38:59Speaker 2: third SEC versus middle Big Ten. Is that it? Well,
- 39:04Speaker 2: Tennessee at Georgia Tech. Sort of like places in the
- 39:07Speaker 2: ACC and the SEC. Yeah, I think it's mid versus mid, right?
- 39:11Speaker 2: Ohio State at Texas, top tier versus top tier. Some
- 39:14Speaker 2: people's national championship. And then we just did Arkansas-Utah, bottom
- 39:17Speaker 2: versus top. That's what I wanted in the Ohio State-Texas game,
- 39:20Speaker 2: by the way.
- 39:20Speaker 1: I want us to have such a well-played, high-scoring game
- 39:25Speaker 1: that we say to ourselves, okay, at the end of
- 39:28Speaker 1: the year, if that is the national championship, rematch part two,
- 39:31Speaker 1: that it's a game we want to see again. Last year,
- 39:34Speaker 1: we would not have wanted to see that one again,
- 39:35Speaker 1: the way it looked 14-7.
- 39:37Speaker 4: Well, you say that. It would have been a completely
- 39:39Speaker 4: different game the second time around.
- 39:41Speaker 2: A lot more experience at that point.
- 39:42Speaker 5: I think you could have at least sold it. You
- 39:44Speaker 5: could have spun it that way. Hey, look, this is
- 39:46Speaker 5: going to be completely different. Quarterbacks getting their first starts
- 39:48Speaker 5: against each other. Now these quarterbacks are really rolling. So, yeah,
- 39:54Speaker 5: I fully expect that game to look completely different from
- 39:57Speaker 5: the one we saw last year.
- 39:59Speaker 1: One more segment to go in our sport and state
- 40:01Speaker 1: part of the day. And hello to everybody on the
- 40:04Speaker 1: Daily Wire as well. I am seeing in the chat
- 40:07Speaker 1: room that when I.
- 40:08Speaker 2: Said Daily Wire earlier, I said it like I was
- 40:10Speaker 2: from the backwoods of Alabama, which I am. The Daily Wire. Hello,
- 40:16Speaker 2: Daily Wire listeners and viewers. We're all connected. The Daily Wire.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Glad to be on your.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Platform as well with Clay's deal with sport and state
- 40:24Speaker 1: over there. When we come back, a little more college
- 40:27Speaker 1: football as we work our way to the next round.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Two more hours after Buck and Clay finish here and
- 40:34Speaker 2: other programming on Sporting State. Maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow. Go
- 40:37Speaker 2: back and experience our other two hours at Next Round Live,
- 40:40Speaker 2: at Next Round Live on YouTube and all the social
- 40:43Speaker 2: media platforms. Forrester and Brooks keep you entertained at Next
- 40:47Speaker 2: Round Live on all social platforms, 24 hours a day.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Interesting that we haven't talked much about Memphis and Boise
- 40:57Speaker 1: State because after week zero, we're all in on talking
- 41:01Speaker 1: about Memphis and Boise State. Excitement died down a little
- 41:05Speaker 1: bit on that game. Is it still a big G6
- 41:08Speaker 1: implication game, playoff implication game for you guys?
- 41:11Speaker 4: I think it is.
- 41:12Speaker 5: I mean, you look at what Memphis has been able
- 41:14Speaker 5: to accomplish going out to Vegas, then coming back, what
- 41:16Speaker 5: I believe was going to be a trap game, and
- 41:18Speaker 5: they end up separating themselves. from Arkansas State, and now
- 41:21Speaker 5: you've got a Boise team that's got a ton of confidence,
- 41:23Speaker 5: although they're coming off, you know, a 60-minute fight on
- 41:27Speaker 5: the road against Oregon. I just don't know how good
- 41:30Speaker 5: this Memphis team is. Like, I think they're pretty good,
- 41:33Speaker 5: but I'm not.
- 41:34Speaker 2: But I don't know how much they're going to be
- 41:35Speaker 2: tested after this game. I mean, the remainder of their schedule,
- 41:39Speaker 2: once they get in conference, they play UT Martin. Once
- 41:41Speaker 2: they get in conference play, Charlotte, UAB, Tulane, East Carolina, Army, USF, Navy, Temple.
- 41:47Speaker 1: They can almost, if they win this game tonight... they
- 41:51Speaker 1: look like they'll play in the American championship game for
- 41:54Speaker 1: birth in the playoffs.
- 41:55Speaker 2: You've got to sell me hard on them not making
- 41:57Speaker 2: the American championship. Yeah.
- 41:59Speaker 5: And Marcus Stokes might be a quarterback. We're kind of
- 42:01Speaker 5: sleeping on, you know, this is a guy that had
- 42:03Speaker 5: signed with Florida and he ends up, you know, somebody
- 42:06Speaker 5: vets his social media. And so he ends up getting
- 42:08Speaker 5: a scholarship revoked, goes to West Florida. Now he's playing
- 42:12Speaker 5: for Charles off and he's been pretty solid.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Clay Travis law.
- 42:16Speaker 1: And then Forrester and I have a couple of things
- 42:19Speaker 1: around college football that that we want to show you
- 42:21Speaker 1: before you make it off to week two here. Clay
- 42:24Speaker 1: Travis Law, great partnership up there in the state of Tennessee.
- 42:27Speaker 4: Yeah, accidents do not wait for a good time.
- 42:30Speaker 5: One bad moment, whether it's a wreck, a fall, a
- 42:32Speaker 5: doctor who wasn't paying attention, and suddenly you're fighting an
- 42:35Speaker 5: insurance company that does this every single day. That's why
- 42:38Speaker 5: Clay started. Clay Travis Law built a firm around one idea.
- 42:41Speaker 5: People deserve someone willing to pay attention. Ask the hard
- 42:44Speaker 5: questions and push back when things don't add up. Experience
- 42:47Speaker 5: trial attorneys who bring the fight to corporations and insurers.
- 42:51Speaker 5: Based in Nashville, trusted across the country, they lead negotiations
- 42:54Speaker 5: with honesty, determination, and a little Southern grit.
- 42:57Speaker 4: Here's what they're going to promise. Honesty.
- 42:59Speaker 5: They're not going to sugarcoat your case. You're going to

- 43:19Speaker 1: Okay, Forrester has texted me from on the back row there.
- 43:22Speaker 1: He's got the uniforms that Boston College will be wearing tonight.
- 43:27Speaker 1: in the Red Bandana game, 25 years after the 9-11 attacks,
- 43:31Speaker 1: playing the game actually on 9-11 tonight in Boston, Rutgers
- 43:35Speaker 1: and Boston College tonight. Always an emotional game, honoring that
- 43:40Speaker 1: great story and his four wells right there.
- 43:44Speaker 2: The Red Bandana look on the uniform. It's always an
- 43:46Speaker 2: emotional game. Yeah, that's really cool. And they play to
- 43:50Speaker 2: a different level in that game. That's one of those
- 43:51Speaker 2: games like, You know, don't lose homecoming. Don't lose senior day.
- 43:55Speaker 2: You don't lose the red bandana game. And I'm not
- 43:57Speaker 2: saying they're undefeated in it, but I do think it
- 43:59Speaker 2: means a lot to them.
- 44:00Speaker 5: Well, this is one that's really flipped around, too, because
- 44:03Speaker 5: you look at Rutgers as a 29.5 point favorite losing
- 44:06Speaker 5: outright to UMass last Thursday night.
- 44:09Speaker 4: And Rutgers would have been favored in this game.
- 44:11Speaker 5: If Rutgers goes out, they cover that 29.5 instead of
- 44:14Speaker 5: flipping around, then Rutgers is a slight favorite.
- 44:16Speaker 4: Now you've got BC as the favorite.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Yeah, 3.5 tonight. We'll do our pick threes later on.
- 44:21Speaker 2: You can go play right now. at nextroundlive.com, nextroundlive.com. Look
- 44:25Speaker 2: for the pick three icon.
- 44:27Speaker 1: Florida State coming off of that heartbreaking close loss the
- 44:33Speaker 1: other night, and now they have a bye week. Then
- 44:34Speaker 1: they come play Alabama. Fans are not happy. Some people
- 44:40Speaker 1: have started a website down there, savefsufootball.com.
- 44:46Speaker 2: You can even buy gear. Wear your frustration. Fire Mike
- 44:50Speaker 2: Norvell t-shirts. Oh, my gosh. They're asking if 250,000 Florida
- 44:53Speaker 2: State fans donate $ 102 each, that would be $ 25. 5 million
- 44:54Speaker 2: that that would get you to over half of the buyout,
- 44:58Speaker 2: which is, I think, $ 45 million. So they're saying if
- 45:00Speaker 2: we can get that number, raise it here, Florida State
- 45:16Speaker 2: probably could match the rest, and we can get Florida
- 45:19Speaker 2: State football good again.
- 45:20Speaker 4: I have spent $ 100 on worse stuff.
- 45:23Speaker 5: But look, I'm not going to bail you out of
- 45:25Speaker 5: a stupid decision you guys made by hiring this guy
- 45:28Speaker 5: and paying him a ton of money and allowing this buyout.
- 45:31Speaker 2: That is a live web look right there for SaveFSUFootball.com.
- 45:37Speaker 2: It needs to be a GoFundMe. I need to see
- 45:39Speaker 2: where we are in the– In the raise, you know
- 45:43Speaker 2: what I'm saying? I'd like to see how much we've raised.
- 45:46Speaker 2: I'm a Florida State fan. I want to know where
- 45:48Speaker 2: we are.
- 45:48Speaker 5: Yeah, but if everybody was like that on GoFundMe, it
- 45:50Speaker 5: would never get done, you know?
- 45:53Speaker 1: Tiger droppings with a cold-hearted slap back. Clemson Football sent
- 45:59Speaker 1: out a tweet, actually a video on X, back in
- 46:03Speaker 1: the Valley this weekend, to which Tiger dropping, now it's
- 46:06Speaker 1: weird wording, back in the Valley this weekend, Clemson says,
- 46:09Speaker 1: to which Tiger dropping says, When you get smoked so bad,
- 46:13Speaker 1: you stop calling your stadium Death Valley.
- 46:15Speaker 2: That's pretty good. Yeah? Yeah, it's pretty good.
- 46:18Speaker 5: Now, wouldn't that have been fun going into that game
- 46:20Speaker 5: if that was the bet?
- 46:22Speaker 2: Yeah, you couldn't call it Death Valley anymore.
- 46:23Speaker 4: The loser is done with Death Valley, at least for
- 46:25Speaker 4: the next 50 years.
- 46:26Speaker 2: That's right. Oklahoma at Michigan. Big noon kickoff. Really, really,
- 46:33Speaker 2: it's two brands. Ticket prices... have dropped tremendously. Get in
- 46:39Speaker 2: price down to $ 59.
- 46:42Speaker 5: That's crazy because I would assume that Oklahoma fans would
- 46:45Speaker 5: buy this up.
- 46:45Speaker 4: This is their first ever.
- 46:47Speaker 5: This is two of the most historic programs in the
- 46:50Speaker 5: history of college football, and it's Oklahoma's first ever trip
- 46:52Speaker 5: to Ann Arbor. It's only the third time these two
- 46:54Speaker 5: teams have met. If I'm an Oklahoma fan, when's another opportunity.
- 46:58Speaker 2: To go to the big house?
- 46:59Speaker 4: And I wouldn't think it's that far of a flight.
- 47:02Speaker 2: I bet you, because of the contrast in colors, when
- 47:05Speaker 2: that game comes on Saturday, you'll see a bunch of
- 47:08Speaker 2: crimson and cream spread throughout that stadium. And is this
- 47:11Speaker 2: their first meeting ever? Did I see that somewhere?
- 47:13Speaker 4: No, it's their first ever trip to Ann Arbor. It's
- 47:16Speaker 4: the third ever meeting.
- 47:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I bet you Michigan fans are coming off these tickets.
- 47:19Speaker 2: You'll see some crimson and cream in places that are normally–
- 47:22Speaker 2: maize and gold right there. It's a rare chance. Maybe
- 47:25Speaker 2: your only chance ever to play a game at the
- 47:27Speaker 2: big house, right?
- 47:27Speaker 5: Yeah, that's why I think Oklahoma fans will go. On
- 47:30Speaker 5: the other side, if you're a Michigan fan, give Kyle
- 47:33Speaker 5: Whittingham a minute. Like, you survived a really good group
- 47:36Speaker 5: six team. You should never be in that situation, but
- 47:39Speaker 5: you're 1-0 right now. But I think there are.
- 47:40Speaker 2: Some Michigan fans that are probably secretly or not so
- 47:43Speaker 2: secretly hoping what Dunaway says happens. Why not see the backup?
- 47:47Speaker 2: You've seen Bryce Underwood You've seen what he cannot do.
- 47:50Speaker 2: Why not see the backup?
- 47:51Speaker 4: No, you can't do that right now.
- 47:52Speaker 2: I wouldn't do it against Oklahoma for sure. Sickos Committee
- 47:56Speaker 2: on threads and Twitter and everywhere. Georgia State and Kennesaw
- 48:00Speaker 2: State play each other this weekend. They're separated by 23
- 48:03Speaker 2: miles in southern terms. that means there is only 20
- 48:08Speaker 2: Waffle Houses between the two campuses.
- 48:10Speaker 4: I mean, you can legitimately walk that in a few hours.
- 48:13Speaker 2: It needs some waffles on the way. 23 miles, 20
- 48:15Speaker 2: Waffle Houses between the two campuses. Are they going to
- 48:18Speaker 2: play every year? I don't know, but that is, of course,
- 48:22Speaker 2: Atlanta is the home, the original headquarters of Waffle House,
- 48:25Speaker 2: and there's a lot of Waffle Houses on that road
- 48:27Speaker 2: trip there. They should call it the Smothered and Covered
- 48:30Speaker 2: Bowl if they're going to play it every year, just
- 48:31Speaker 2: to lean into this. embrace it and call it the
- 48:34Speaker 2: smothered and covered bowl.
- 48:35Speaker 5: I mean, if you've got 20 between them, I'm a
- 48:37Speaker 5: fan of Waffle House.
- 48:38Speaker 4: I never go.
- 48:38Speaker 5: The only time I ever go is when we go
- 48:40Speaker 5: down to the coast and see our friends from the
- 48:42Speaker 5: floor of AMA.
- 48:43Speaker 2: I go about once a month. Okay.
- 48:45Speaker 4: I like it.
- 48:45Speaker 2: I like it. How do you get your hash browns? Scattered, covered,
- 48:50Speaker 2: and chunk.
- 48:51Speaker 4: Do you remember how I get mine?
- 48:52Speaker 2: No, wait. Scattered, covered. He gets his with mayonnaise in them.
- 48:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I get the cheese just covered with jalapenos, pickled
- 49:00Speaker 5: jalapenos and mayonnaise.
- 49:01Speaker 2: Okay. Scattered, covered, and mine's just got onions, cheese, and
- 49:05Speaker 2: the hash browns scattered around. I'm covered, chunked, capped, and country.
- 49:11Speaker 2: That's how I get mine. I go smothered, covered, chunked, capped, country. Yeah,
- 49:16Speaker 2: country is gravy. What is smothered? Smothered is... sautéed onions. Oh,
- 49:21Speaker 2: I don't like sautéed. I like raw. Raw onions in it.
- 49:24Speaker 2: I like both.
- 49:25Speaker 4: Brown hates both.
- 49:26Speaker 2: I don't like onions. Yeah.
- 49:28Speaker 1: And then finally, running back you, it's been different over
- 49:31Speaker 1: the years, but back to the NFL. Tell me, I mean,
- 49:35Speaker 1: tell me Derrick Henry's a Hall of Famer without saying
- 49:38Speaker 1: Derrick Henry's an Hall of Famer. most NFL rushing yards
- 49:43Speaker 1: in a season by running backs from the same school.
- 49:47Speaker 1: And this was off an Instagram post that asked which
- 49:51Speaker 1: school would lead the NFL in rushing.
- 49:54Speaker 2: Alabama in 2024, 2022, 2020, and 2019. Miami in 2007, 2005.
- 49:55Speaker 2: These are the leaders all time. with rushing yards. In 2024,
- 50:08Speaker 2: Alabama running back 6,536 yards in the NFL. Derrick Henry,
- 50:14Speaker 2: the four logos you see, is a big part of
- 50:16Speaker 2: all of those. You got some Bama running backs. They
- 50:19Speaker 2: go by the school last plate. Jameer Gibbs is in there.
- 50:22Speaker 2: Gibbs is an Alabama guy, according to them.
- 50:25Speaker 5: I mean, I know you've got Gibbs as your MVP.
- 50:27Speaker 5: I think he's going to be fantastic this year. I
- 50:29Speaker 5: think Detroit's one of the big bounce-back stories. But you
- 50:33Speaker 5: can't deny Derrick Henry's career. I mean, he's still a
- 50:36Speaker 5: top 10 back in his age.
- 50:37Speaker 2: So you, you wonder if Alabama could be the answer again.
- 50:40Speaker 2: I don't know if it'd make the top six list,
- 50:43Speaker 2: but if Alabama can be the answer again, uh, I
- 50:46Speaker 2: know Josh Jacobs is, uh, the committees, uh, the commissioner's
- 50:49Speaker 2: list right now, but you know, he could be back
- 50:51Speaker 2: and be important for green Bay. And there are a
- 50:54Speaker 2: few others out there that can still get some carries.
- 50:56Speaker 2: Najee Harris, you got a giant location with the giants.
- 51:00Speaker 2: I got them as a playoff team. So, um, Interesting
- 51:03Speaker 2: to see what that is, but that surprises a lot
- 51:06Speaker 2: of people. But it's the Derrick Henry effect. Yeah, I mean,
- 51:09Speaker 2: he's got to be involved in all those groupings. Yeah,
- 51:11Speaker 2: the Derrick Henry effect. Okay, we got about 90 seconds.
- 51:15Speaker 1: Give me one college football game this weekend that maybe
- 51:18Speaker 1: we haven't talked enough about that you want to give
- 51:20Speaker 1: me 15, 20 seconds on before we head to the
- 51:22Speaker 1: next round part of the show.
- 51:24Speaker 4: Well, I would have.
- 51:24Speaker 5: Told you that it would be Memphis and Boise State,
- 51:27Speaker 5: but I'm just going to go Arizona-BYU. I know I
- 51:28Speaker 5: touched on it a little bit. We'll get more into
- 51:30Speaker 5: it when we do our pick three. But I just
- 51:32Speaker 5: think this is one of those games, if Arizona really
- 51:35Speaker 5: wants to flex and they want to be kind of
- 51:37Speaker 5: that outside team, everybody assumes in the Big 12, it's
- 51:40Speaker 5: Texas Tech, it's BYU, it's Utah, but Arizona has gotten really,
- 51:45Speaker 5: really good. And again, Fafita with his experience, 75 career
- 51:48Speaker 5: passing touchdowns.
- 51:49Speaker 4: That leads the active list right now in the FBS.
- 51:52Speaker 2: Brownie, give me one quick thing. We've talked a little
- 51:54Speaker 2: bit about it, but I am strangely excited for Mississippi
- 51:59Speaker 2: State and Minnesota. I just think it's a chance for
- 52:02Speaker 2: Jeff Levy to finally say, we're not just improving, we're
- 52:05Speaker 2: actually improving and now winning games. And, I mean, you
- 52:09Speaker 2: tell a Mississippi State fan a couple years ago, you're
- 52:11Speaker 2: going to go to a mid-tier Big Ten stadium and
- 52:13Speaker 2: get a win. They wouldn't have believed you.
- 52:14Speaker 1: I want to see what Oregon State looks like after
- 52:16Speaker 1: losing a close one at Houston at home against Texas Tech.
- 52:19Speaker 2: And can Texas Tech.
- 52:20Speaker 1: Be close to what they were last year at 630
- 52:24Speaker 1: on MaineCBS.com? coming up on Saturday night two more hours
- 52:28Speaker 1: of football talk we'll jump into Alabama Auburn and some
- 52:31Speaker 1: other SEC teams at next round live over on YouTube
- 52:34Speaker 1: and all the socials you guys have a great day
