- Lucas: Hei everyone, welcome back to Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and here with me is the wonderful Luna. Luna: Hei! I'm so excited for today. We're doing greetings by time of day, right? Like good morning, good afternoon, good evening? Lucas: Exactly. And the beautiful thing is, you already know the most important one: Hei. That works anytime. Luna: Hei. That's my go-to. I love it. Lucas: Good. But if you want to be more specific, Norwegians love to say God morgen in the morning. Luna: God morgen. I remember that from Episode 1. But let me hear you say it slowly. Lucas: God morgen. God — like 'good' without the d, and morgen like 'mor-gen'. God morgen. Luna: God morgen. God morgen. Oh, that's nice. So if I walk into a bakery at 8 AM, I say God morgen? Lucas: Yes. Let's do a quick role-play. Imagine it's morning. I'm the baker. Luna: Okay. God morgen! Lucas: God morgen! Hvordan går det? — which we learned in Episode 2. Luna: Bra, takk. Ooh, that felt natural. Lucas: See? So easy. Now, after midday, around lunch, we switch to God ettermiddag. Luna: God ettermiddag. That's a mouthful. Say it slowly? Lucas: God et-ter-middag. ettermiddag means afternoon. God ettermiddag. Luna: God ettermiddag. I think I need to practice that a few times. God ettermiddag. God ettermiddag. Lucas: You've got it. Now let's imagine it's 2 PM and you meet a friend. Luna: Hei! God ettermiddag! Lucas: God ettermiddag! Hvordan går det? Luna: Bra, takk! And you? Lucas: Bra, takk. Perfect. Now the last one for today is God kveld — good evening. Luna: God kveld. That's similar to God morgen, just with kveld. Lucas: Exactly. God kveld. Use it after around 6 PM or when it gets dark. Luna: God kveld. So if I go to a restaurant at 7 PM, I say God kveld? Lucas: Yes, exactly. Let's do a quick evening role-play. I'm the host at a restaurant. Luna: God kveld! Et bord for to, takk? — wait, we haven't learned 'table for two' yet. Lucas: That's okay. Just say God kveld, and I'll respond. Luna: God kveld! Lucas: God kveld! Velkommen. — That means welcome. Luna: Oh, velkommen. I like that. Lucas: So let's recap. We have four phrases: Hei, God morgen, God ettermiddag, God kveld. Luna: Hei, God morgen, God ettermiddag, God kveld. I think I've got them. Lucas: Let's do a quick quiz. I say a time of day, you say the greeting. Morning? Luna: God morgen! Lucas: Afternoon? Luna: God ettermiddag! Lucas: Evening? Luna: God kveld! Lucas: And anytime? Luna: Hei! Lucas: Nailed it. You're ready to greet any Norwegian at any hour. Luna: Tusen takk, Lucas. This was so helpful. Lucas: Vær så god. Remember, practice these throughout your day. Say God morgen when you wake up, God ettermiddag after lunch, God kveld in the evening. Luna: I will. And Hei all the time. Takk for i dag, alle sammen. Lucas: That's a lovely way to end. Takk for i dag means thanks for today. And from all of us at Fexingo, keep practicing, and we'll catch you next time. Ha det bra! Luna: Ha det bra!
