Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: All right. If you're a boss and you're in charge
- 0:01Speaker 1: of hiring people, how would this go over in your office?
- 0:04Speaker 1: It's 106.7 Light FM. Cubby Christine, producer Kristen. Take it away, Christine.
- 0:09Speaker 2: You're going to a job interview and you show up
- 0:11Speaker 2: with an iced latte in your hand.
- 0:14Speaker 1: All casual.
- 0:16Speaker 2: So what does the person interviewing you think? There's a
- 0:20Speaker 2: little debate happening online where a job recruiter is saying,
- 0:24Speaker 2: please don't do this because it looks like your interview
- 0:27Speaker 2: was just like Hey, just stopping in between errands.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Yes, thank you.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Like you said, really cash. And then it goes like towards,
- 0:35Speaker 2: you know, age has a lot to do with it.
- 0:37Speaker 2: The younger generations are saying, that's ridiculous. You don't judge
- 0:41Speaker 2: somebody over a cup of coffee.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Well, I think we do. It's not the coffee. It's
- 0:48Speaker 1: how it's portrayed as you're walking in the office and
- 0:51Speaker 1: everything is being picked apart.
- 0:53Speaker 2: That's the thing.
- 0:53Speaker 1: How you're walking in, your confidence, what you have with you.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I know you don't like thinking about that because it's unnerving,
- 1:00Speaker 2: but it really is what's happening. Yeah, that's what the
- 1:03Speaker 2: recruiter is saying. And, you know, people who have had
- 1:07Speaker 2: more of this life experience are saying exactly that, Covey.
- 1:10Speaker 2: It's the optics. It's not, okay, I have coffee. It's
- 1:14Speaker 2: the appearance that you're giving, that you're just not really
- 1:18Speaker 2: taking this seriously. And they said, you come in and
- 1:21Speaker 2: a lot of times Like it can distract you because
- 1:23Speaker 2: you're like shaking the ice. You're doing things. It just
- 1:26Speaker 2: can pull focus.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:28Speaker 2: And you don't want to do that.
- 1:29Speaker 1: But I wonder if any research has been done on
- 1:31Speaker 1: what if you are going in for a job interview
- 1:33Speaker 1: and you have a cup of coffee and you brought
- 1:35Speaker 1: another cup of coffee for the person interviewing you. That
- 1:39Speaker 1: might go over well, right?
- 1:41Speaker 2: Wonder.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Hey, I hope you like, you know, black coffee or
- 1:44Speaker 1: a nice latte. And then you hand it in front
- 1:46Speaker 1: of him or her. And then you could sip on yours.
- 1:49Speaker 2: This is this is hard because when I was doing
- 1:51Speaker 2: a lot of auditioning, like sometimes actors would do that.
- 1:54Speaker 2: They would bring treats for casting people. Yeah. But then
- 1:58Speaker 2: the casting people were like, they didn't like it a
- 2:02Speaker 2: lot of times because they thought it is schmoozing. Yeah.
- 2:05Speaker 2: So I don't know. I think it's tough. I think
- 2:07Speaker 2: maybe just go in there without coffee for yourself or
- 2:09Speaker 2: the person. Yeah. Just do the best you can do.
- 2:12Speaker 1: But maybe we're wrong.
- 2:13Speaker 2: And get coffee on the way home.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Right. I think that's the best. But your opinion, please, 44363,
- 2:20Speaker 1: especially if you're a person, like I said, that maybe
- 2:22Speaker 1: hires people on the regular basis.
- 2:24Speaker 2: You can tell us.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Tell us what you would do if somebody came in
- 2:27Speaker 1: for an interview with a cup of coffee and just
- 2:30Speaker 1: acted very cash. 44363.
