- 0:00SPEAKER_05: And honestly, if you're pursuing a goal that's meaningful, it should scare you.
- 0:07SPEAKER_05: You should be experiencing fear.
- 0:10SPEAKER_02: You have to understand your lane and the people that can run in it.
- 0:14SPEAKER_02: And the people that cannot run in your lane, guess what?
- 0:18SPEAKER_05: So on the deeper end, it makes me wonder about a self-esteem piece and a self-value piece.
- 0:24SPEAKER_05: Could you go back though?
- 0:26SPEAKER_05: I want to sit with this a little bit.
- 0:27SPEAKER_05: What did that mean?
- 0:28SPEAKER_05: Because now I'm a little offended.
- 0:30SPEAKER_05: What did that mean?
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: Which part?
- 0:33SPEAKER_05: The truth in the air, let it speak.
- 0:41SPEAKER_02: Natasha.
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: Natasha.
- 0:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: Is it Dr.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: Oates?
- 0:46SPEAKER_05: It's not.
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: It's not.
- 0:48SPEAKER_05: I'm a master's level therapist.
- 0:50SPEAKER_05: Oh speaker.
- 0:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 0:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 0:53SPEAKER_02: See you moved position.
- 0:55SPEAKER_02: You don't even know you did.
- 0:58SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 1:00SPEAKER_05: I know how to adjust the bike.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: So we're here.
- 1:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: To have a.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: Can we call it a deep discussion or we just gonna scratch the surface today?
- 1:16SPEAKER_05: I love going deep.
- 1:18SPEAKER_05: I love going deep.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: We're not gonna, we we are we gonna do that today?
- 1:22SPEAKER_05: Let's just see where where it goes.
- 1:23SPEAKER_05: Let's see what happens.
- 1:24SPEAKER_02: Let's just crank up the car and just go.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: Oh, wait, hold on, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 1:27SPEAKER_02: Let's just push the start.
- 1:29SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: We're gonna push start.
- 1:34SPEAKER_05: It's good to be back.
- 1:36SPEAKER_05: Thank you for welcoming me back.
- 1:37SPEAKER_05: I mean, people don't have to do that.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: No, they don't.
- 1:40SPEAKER_05: No.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: I mean, but I mean, granted, I already told you, yes, I was gonna have to get you back.
- 1:47SPEAKER_05: And thank you for the biggest thing.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: And I'm glad that you agreed.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: Right now, you are the second guest to come back on Creative Roots podcast where seeds sown become visions grown.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: You know.
- 2:03SPEAKER_05: Loving that.
- 2:04SPEAKER_05: That's great.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:06SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: It says a lot.
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: Especially when I have some people ask, like, hey, when are you gonna sit with this person, that person?
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: And you know, usually it's I don't know.
- 2:23SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 2:24SPEAKER_05: It's not personal.
- 2:26SPEAKER_02: No, no, not personal.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: No.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: You know, this is just I don't know.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: You know, we're gonna find a good time.
- 2:36SPEAKER_02: And honestly, thinking back, you were episode two in January of 2026.
- 2:46SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 2:47SPEAKER_02: You were the second person to sit on this set.
- 2:56SPEAKER_06: Oh.
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm thinking.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: Had we started let me do this.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: Had you come back when we originally were talking about it.
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: I feel certain things would not what's the word, elude to today.
- 3:18SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: The reason I say that is because we were thinking mental health, right?
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: Mental health awareness month.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: Um and then the month after that was I think men's mental health awareness.
- 3:31SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 3:32SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 3:34SPEAKER_05: I think and then the month after that, minority well, this month, minority mental health month.
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: Oh, we are still in July.
- 3:43SPEAKER_05: Still in July, can you believe it?
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: It doesn't feel it does not.
- 3:51SPEAKER_05: When you work hard, ladies and gentlemen, keep it up with the days and the months.
- 3:56SPEAKER_02: You just wake up and say, hmm, where am I supposed to be today?
- 4:01SPEAKER_05: Exactly.
- 4:02SPEAKER_05: Exactly.
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: And even if you do check the calendar, you're still a day head or two days behind.
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: I've had that happen the past two weeks.
- 4:12unknown: Oh my gosh.
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 4:15SPEAKER_05: Those planning sessions, I have to have a planning session.
- 4:19SPEAKER_05: What does my month look like?
- 4:20SPEAKER_05: Let me just have all the pieces in place because day to day, I don't I wake up and say, what do I have today?
- 4:27SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 4:28SPEAKER_05: It's real.
- 4:30SPEAKER_02: I'll wake up and be like, it's Tuesday.
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: The only thing I'm thinking about when I wake up is going back to sleep.
- 4:39SPEAKER_05: Man.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: It'd be days like that though.
- 4:41SPEAKER_05: Oh, for sure.
- 4:42SPEAKER_05: It'd be days like that.
- 4:43SPEAKER_05: For sure.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: And I know it ain't just me.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: So don't worry about it.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: It's not.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: It's not like that.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: Don't look at us like that.
- 4:50SPEAKER_05: I'm still working on my sleep.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: Me too.
- 4:53SPEAKER_05: Because you get kicked in the butt over and over until you learn it.
- 5:00SPEAKER_05: And I'm tired of the lesson.
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't need no more whoopings.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: I don't need no more braided switches.
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: No.
- 5:07SPEAKER_06: Gotta go to bed.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: Gotta go to bed.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: All of this plays into today.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: Y'all gonna see how this works.
- 5:14SPEAKER_02: So listen, Miss Natasha.
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: Today's topic.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: Do you want to tell them what today's topic is?
- 5:24SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 5:25SPEAKER_05: Um, who do you think you are?
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, who do you think?
- 5:29SPEAKER_05: Who do you think?
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: Who?
- 5:32SPEAKER_05: Who do you think you are?
- 5:33SPEAKER_05: Talking about imposter syndrome.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 5:37SPEAKER_02: And that's why I say I feel this falls right on time.
- 5:42SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 5:42SPEAKER_02: Because we've gone through all these months of mental health.
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: Um, you came in at the beginning of the year talking about mental health.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: And from all of that, here we are, July, almost August.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: And for multiple people, we're looking like August isn't like next week.
- 6:08SPEAKER_05: Really?
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: We're seven months gone.
- 6:11SPEAKER_05: Yes, we are in 2026.
- 6:13SPEAKER_05: Into the year, yes, we are.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: And it makes you stop and ask, what have I done this year?
- 6:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:20SPEAKER_02: What have I accomplished?
- 6:22SPEAKER_02: What did I not accomplish?
- 6:25SPEAKER_02: Where am I at with my goals?
- 6:27SPEAKER_02: And then you think about everything that you did not do.
- 6:30SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: Because for whatever reason, we go straight to the negative.
- 6:36SPEAKER_02: We do.
- 6:37SPEAKER_02: I didn't.
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: I didn't.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: I didn't.
- 6:40SPEAKER_02: And then that's where we get the shoulda woulda cutters instead of just dwelling on, well, I did get this done.
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: I did do that.
- 6:48SPEAKER_05: Right, right, right.
- 6:49SPEAKER_05: Celebrating those wins.
- 6:51SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 6:51SPEAKER_05: For sure.
- 6:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 6:53SPEAKER_05: Because even if a creative, a business owner long term, if you look at the statistics, like you shouldn't be able to do it.
- 7:04SPEAKER_05: You just shouldn't be able to be here doing that, doing what you love.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: Especially if you're someone with a day job.
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: You are expected to not.
- 7:15SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: And you think about the time frame that it can take for you to become dot dot streamer, YouTuber, videographer, photographer, um, shoot, even a therapist.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: You know, and it's mostly because we just push things to the side.
- 7:43SPEAKER_02: I'll pick it up later.
- 7:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:45SPEAKER_02: Not now.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: And then that goes to one of the main topics of today.
- 7:52SPEAKER_02: Just living in fear.
- 7:54SPEAKER_05: For sure.
- 7:56SPEAKER_05: Fear of failure, fear of being embarrassed.
- 7:59SPEAKER_05: If I put myself all the way out there, fear of not being accepted, because sometimes we're different than the average mold of the role that we're seeking out to do.
- 8:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 8:12SPEAKER_02: And I've dealt with all of them.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: And I'm pretty sure we all have.
- 8:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: So if you have ever dealt with imposter syndrome on any spectrum with fear, leave it down in the comments because we we're about to get into this.
- 8:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 8:29SPEAKER_05: And honestly, if you're pursuing a goal that's meaningful, it should scare you.
- 8:36SPEAKER_05: You should be experiencing fear.
- 8:39SPEAKER_05: That's a part of it.
- 8:40SPEAKER_05: Even when we get to like high profile points of our career, there's still a level that feels can I really do that?
- 8:50SPEAKER_05: Would I make a fool of myself?
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 8:53SPEAKER_02: Well, what they gonna say?
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: What they gonna think of me?
- 8:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 8:58SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 8:59SPEAKER_02: So the first one you mentioned was fear of failure, right?
- 9:02SPEAKER_05: Absolutely.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: I know for me that entire with this whole fear of embarrassment.
- 9:09unknown: Yeah.
- 9:10SPEAKER_02: Because if you fail, you feel embarrassed.
- 9:14SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: For me, it was if I fail, I'm failing because of the embarrassment before I even start.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: That makes sense.
- 9:25SPEAKER_05: Yes, it does.
- 9:26SPEAKER_05: So because it keeps plenty of people from not even trying.
- 9:30SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: And to not even try is way worse than trying and not succeeding.
- 9:38SPEAKER_06: Y'all hear that?
- 9:39SPEAKER_02: I would rather try and fall flat on my face.
- 9:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: Just to say I gave it a shot.
- 9:45SPEAKER_05: I gave it a shot and I gave it my all.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: That's key.
- 9:49SPEAKER_05: I gave it my all.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: That's key.
- 9:52SPEAKER_02: Because sometimes we go into this with the level of fear that we have and we don't give our all.
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: Because we're expecting to fail.
- 10:01SPEAKER_05: It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: All day.
- 10:05SPEAKER_05: I don't want to fall flat on my face, so I'll only do a little.
- 10:09SPEAKER_05: And I won't.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: Just enough.
- 10:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 10:12unknown: Yeah.
- 10:12SPEAKER_02: And we can't do just enough when we're expecting ourselves to go further.
- 10:18SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 10:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 10:22SPEAKER_05: For sure.
- 10:23SPEAKER_05: You know how many geniuses sit with their strategies and they look at what other people are doing and say, why are they doing it like this?
- 10:32SPEAKER_05: But the fear of failure stops them.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: Hey, what's going on, good people?
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: This is Shamar Tay's Trusty Sidekick.

- 11:05SPEAKER_00: Now back to the episode.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: Peace.
- 11:07SPEAKER_05: You know how many geniuses sit with their strategies and they look at what other people are doing and say, why are they doing it like this?
- 11:16SPEAKER_05: But the fear of failure stops them from like really taking those steps for themselves.
- 11:22SPEAKER_05: That's real.
- 11:24unknown: Mm-hmm.
- 11:24SPEAKER_02: It is.
- 11:25SPEAKER_02: When and you said the other thing, judgment.
- 11:32SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: And being misunderstood.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: I know for me, coming from where I come from.
- 11:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: And talking the way that I talk.
- 11:41SPEAKER_02: I can say something and I'm instantly misunderstood.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: There's not a lot of people growing up that can cut you out without using profanity.
- 11:55SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 11:55SPEAKER_02: You know, using these, what some people would classify as big words.
- 12:00SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: You know, the nerd terms, things like that.
- 12:04SPEAKER_02: And I for me, it was like, no, I can't talk the way that I do because they're not gonna understand.
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: And you remember Jason?
- 12:18SPEAKER_06: I do.
- 12:20SPEAKER_02: He was one of the first, he was probably the first person that told me, he said, listen, you were nerd.
- 12:26unknown: Oh my god.
- 12:27SPEAKER_02: And you from the hood.
- 12:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: Put that in your rap.
- 12:30SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: Put that the way that you say you can use those words.
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: And if they don't understand it, then it's, you know, it is what it is.
- 12:37unknown: Yeah.
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: And when it comes to music, he kind of helped shape that.
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: So shout out to Jason.
- 12:46SPEAKER_02: Don't call me because I know you're gonna call me.
- 12:48SPEAKER_05: Wait, you're talking about from high school?
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: Jason from high school.
- 12:51SPEAKER_05: Rest his soul, you know?
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:56SPEAKER_02: No, not that, Jason.
- 12:57SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: Not that Jason.
- 12:58SPEAKER_05: Because you had to make me no.
- 13:01SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 13:02SPEAKER_02: Jason Greer, when you're talking about he told me, you know you ain't gotta act like that, right?
- 13:07SPEAKER_02: That's what he told me.
- 13:09SPEAKER_02: Both the Jasons were all Jason Fire the 13th out here.
- 13:14SPEAKER_02: Jason Greer basically said, Look at that.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: You know you ain't gotta act like that.
- 13:18SPEAKER_05: Look at that.
- 13:19SPEAKER_05: Look at that.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, to an extent, yeah, I do.
- 13:22SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: Jason McMillan.
- 13:24SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 13:25SPEAKER_05: He's the one that was like, you're you.
- 13:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 13:31SPEAKER_05: And you know, sometimes we think we have to be a certain way to do well.
- 13:38SPEAKER_05: We think or we feel like people expect you to come across as a certain way.
- 13:43SPEAKER_05: And so we need to shift and change and put all these masks on about who we are.
- 13:48SPEAKER_05: But how we're so unique, that's the missing pieces to all these different roles and all these different opportunities, like all these intricacies of who we are, the quirks.
- 14:00SPEAKER_05: So I'm I'm loving to hear that.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: The the little details, the intricate details.
- 14:07SPEAKER_02: I've always said it's the little things that make a bigger picture.
- 14:11SPEAKER_02: You can't create a puzzle without the little pieces.
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: And if one of those pieces is missing, then the puzzle is incomplete.
- 14:17SPEAKER_06: That's right.
- 14:18SPEAKER_06: That's right.
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: You have to be able to know what puzzle pieces you already have.
- 14:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: Sometimes we lose those puzzle pieces.
- 14:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 14:29SPEAKER_02: Sometimes people walk away with those puzzle pieces, leaving those holes and those gaps that we fill.
- 14:37SPEAKER_05: And sometimes, sometimes we can get uh ostracized or uh we could feel less than because of the differences, but that's our superpower.
- 14:49SPEAKER_05: Um I I think I might have mentioned that, you know, I'm a therapist, of course, but I'm also coming back into speaking.
- 14:57SPEAKER_05: And in some of these corporate settings and some of these business settings, I might not be the mold, so to speak, but some of those rooms are a little boring, they're a little stiff, and they need some of this energy, some of this flavor, and some of these gems.
- 15:12SPEAKER_05: So, so so truly accepting who we are, the unique makeup of who we are, and knowing that that is the gift is so incredibly powerful and so vulnerable.
- 15:24SPEAKER_05: I said, okay, in this last uh speaking engagement that I did, there was gonna be a lineup of a lot of speakers there.
- 15:32SPEAKER_05: In addition to me, it was gonna be an all-day event.
- 15:36SPEAKER_05: You had all these corporate folks who are stressed out from their families and deadlines and all of this.
- 15:41SPEAKER_05: I'm like, I'm gonna have to bring a lot of energy.
- 15:44SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna bring my props.
- 15:45SPEAKER_05: We're gonna do a little dancing.
- 15:46SPEAKER_05: I said, this is gonna go really good, or this is gonna go really bad.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: I hope it was good.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: Was it good?
- 15:57SPEAKER_05: It's really, really good.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: Okay, good.
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: Because I hate for you to be sitting up here like, mm-mm, that wasn't it.
- 16:05SPEAKER_05: But you know, I I recognize, okay, I gotta get out of my own way.
- 16:11SPEAKER_05: I gotta um usually, so I'm an introvert, so that part of me comes out when I'm around friends and people I'm comfortable with.
- 16:18SPEAKER_05: But while I'm on assignment, I gotta get out of my own way and tap into that.
- 16:22SPEAKER_05: And so I encourage everybody listening, like tap into what you naturally are strong at.
- 16:28SPEAKER_05: It can make a world of difference.
- 16:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we talked about that last time too.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: We're introverts with what is it, extrovert tendencies.
- 16:40SPEAKER_02: I'm just gonna let that sit there for a second because that's a lot.
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: I mean, yes, I don't like being bothered.
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: But when I am out in public, I don't want to say something, and then somebody's like, well, what what does that mean?
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: You know, going back to the being misunderstood.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: Um when we started the podcast for Charlotte Podcast Studio, there were people that were like, tell Tay to stop reading the screen.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: Huh.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: And Shamar's like, he's not reading the screen.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, what you mean, stop reading the screen?
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: You know?
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: Uh-oh.
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: Because we I didn't have notes in my hand.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: To an extent, yes, I was reading the TV, but if you really pay attention, I look off anyway.
- 17:35SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 17:35SPEAKER_05: And as in in the distance.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 17:38SPEAKER_05: Uh-huh.
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: And then, you know, they were like, Well, they don't talk like that.
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: He don't use those words, you know.
- 17:47SPEAKER_02: And it's like, no, that's how he talked.
- 17:51SPEAKER_02: When he told y'all he was a nerd, he meant that.
- 17:53SPEAKER_02: I meant that.
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: You know.
- 17:55SPEAKER_05: So it's like.
- 17:57SPEAKER_05: But you're not in a one box.
- 18:00SPEAKER_02: No.
- 18:01SPEAKER_02: And and sometimes that's why I just stopped talking.
- 18:04SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 18:05SPEAKER_02: You know, like high school, I could talk.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: But some days I'd be like, mm-mm.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: It's not gonna happen today.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: It's just not so being misunderstood, yeah, touching on the embarrassment.
- 18:22SPEAKER_05: Could you go back though?
- 18:23SPEAKER_05: I I want to sit with this a little bit.
- 18:24SPEAKER_05: What did that mean?
- 18:25SPEAKER_05: Because now I'm a little offended.
- 18:27SPEAKER_05: What did that mean?
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: Which part?
- 18:31SPEAKER_04: I thought you were reading on a screen.
- 18:34SPEAKER_05: So you don't talk like that.
- 18:36SPEAKER_05: Meaning.
- 18:39SPEAKER_02: I guess I was putting myself in more of a professional state.
- 18:43SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 18:44SPEAKER_02: When we first started out, because again, I don't want to embarrass myself.
- 18:48SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: And, you know, I'm just thinking of I I can't hold back.
- 18:57SPEAKER_02: I have to say what I would normally naturally say.
- 19:00SPEAKER_05: Very nice.
- 19:00SPEAKER_02: And it's just when people are not used to you speaking that way.
- 19:05SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 19:05SPEAKER_05: You know.
- 19:06SPEAKER_02: Some people say speaking.
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: And I'm sometimes I say speaking.
- 19:09SPEAKER_05: Uh-huh.
- 19:10SPEAKER_02: It's just natural to me.
- 19:12SPEAKER_05: Yes, yes.
- 19:13SPEAKER_02: I don't always say I'm gonna, it's I'm going to.
- 19:17SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 19:17SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 19:19SPEAKER_02: And I think that's what throws people off because I don't want to call it cold switching, because I'm not switching.
- 19:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 19:27SPEAKER_02: I'm still being me.
- 19:28SPEAKER_05: It's we're, we're, I mean, it's listen, we grew up where we grew up.
- 19:33SPEAKER_05: We have the culture, we have the flavor.
- 19:35SPEAKER_05: We we've gone to school, we've had the academics.
- 19:39SPEAKER_05: We can do it all.
- 19:40SPEAKER_05: And so to not be boxed and to allow us to pivot in all the places that we can, it just only makes sense.
- 19:48SPEAKER_05: Only makes sense to me.
- 19:50SPEAKER_05: To me too.
- 19:51SPEAKER_05: And to who are ideal clientele, customers, partners, they will get the best of both worlds and enjoy it.
- 19:59SPEAKER_05: And I guess everything ain't for everybody.
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: Oh no, it's not.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: Because doing that podcast, it was not for me.
- 20:06SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: Me and Shaman, we had a conversation about it.
- 20:09SPEAKER_02: And it was like, I don't want to talk about starting a podcast.
- 20:13SPEAKER_02: If we're gonna do a podcast, let's do a podcast.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: And then we sat.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: And again, you know, some time went by, a couple weeks, maybe a month or so, and it was like, I got it.
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: And that's how we got here.
- 20:31SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: You know.
- 20:34SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 20:34SPEAKER_05: But you allowed yourself to go through the processes that you needed to to get where you were supposed to be.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: Yes, and I hope they call it that.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: It's a process.
- 20:45SPEAKER_05: It's a process.
- 20:46SPEAKER_05: You're not gonna get to Z.
- 20:48SPEAKER_05: You gotta you to get to Z, you gotta go through A, B, and the rest of it.
- 20:52SPEAKER_05: It's just it's just a part of life.
- 20:54SPEAKER_05: It's okay.
- 20:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 20:55SPEAKER_05: It's okay.
- 20:57SPEAKER_02: You have to know where you are to start.
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: You have to know where you want to be.
- 21:07SPEAKER_02: And sometimes there is no ending because it is a reoccurring, not reoccurring, but it is a continuous, evolving, I like that word.
- 21:16SPEAKER_02: It is in an evolving uh space.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: It's a space for you to continue to grow.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: Like for me, I can't say, well, my end game is to be um full-time podcaster, holding, uh, hosting events, or my end goal is to be uh videographer, uh media production team for these companies, because then that's when we go back to putting yourself in a box.
- 21:50SPEAKER_06: That's true.
- 21:51SPEAKER_06: That's true.
- 21:53SPEAKER_02: So all of that for this platform, I can be me.
- 22:00SPEAKER_05: Nice.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: You know, there are certain things that I still won't do, but I'm also in a space of what is embarrassment really?
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: But when you really think, is it embarrassing because other people have something to say?
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: Or is it an embarrassment because it's something that you wouldn't normally do?
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: Like, I got I got I have brothers.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: I have brothers that are into comic books, right?
- 22:31SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: That hence to our group name, Just His League.
- 22:35SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 22:35SPEAKER_02: A playoff of Justice League, Just His League.
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: Cool.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: Christian hip hop group.
- 22:39SPEAKER_02: We've been uh named the uh Boo Tang of Christian Hip Hop because there's so many others.
- 22:45SPEAKER_02: Everybody has a different style, nobody sounds the same, nobody raps the same.
- 22:49SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: And there are some of them, notice how I said that.
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: There are some of them that will actually dress up as superhero characters.
- 23:01SPEAKER_05: Oh, for real.
- 23:02SPEAKER_05: Look at that.
- 23:03SPEAKER_02: And then there's no shame.
- 23:05SPEAKER_05: Uh-huh.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: But me on the outside, and I'm like, Ain't no way.
- 23:12SPEAKER_02: That ain't me, bruh.
- 23:13SPEAKER_02: I'll wear a hat.
- 23:14SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 23:15SPEAKER_02: I'll wear a hat.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: I'm not about to walk around looking like the Flash or Batman because Tay ain't wearing no tights.
- 23:23SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying, not saying that my brother didn't know.
- 23:25SPEAKER_02: Did you do it as a kid?
- 23:26SPEAKER_05: Did you do it as a kid?
- 23:27SPEAKER_02: No, ma'am.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: Of land.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: I may have putting you know the tile in my shirt.
- 23:32SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 23:33SPEAKER_05: That counts.
- 23:34SPEAKER_02: But there were no tights.
- 23:35SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 23:36SPEAKER_02: No.
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: That's when you're the kid, you you know, there's no.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: Talk about that, yeah.
- 23:43SPEAKER_02: There's no sense of embarrassment.
- 23:46SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: And it's like, that's something that's trained.
- 23:52SPEAKER_02: That's something that is trained.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: That is something that is taught to you.
- 23:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah, for sure.
- 23:56SPEAKER_02: I would never tell my brothers, hey, what's wrong?
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: You you can't do that.
- 24:01SPEAKER_02: You're a grown man.
- 24:02SPEAKER_02: Hey, there's a reason for Comic-Con, okay?
- 24:07SPEAKER_05: Yes, it is.
- 24:08SPEAKER_05: There's a reason.
- 24:08SPEAKER_05: Yes, it is.
- 24:10SPEAKER_02: There are people mostly females that do the whole cosplay.
- 24:15SPEAKER_06: Mostly females.
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: From what I've seen on like Instagram, you know, they'll show their natural selves and they'll show themselves in a costume.
- 24:24SPEAKER_02: And then people are like, hey, can you be this person from this show?
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: And then they'll have that get up.
- 24:30SPEAKER_02: But Comic-Con.
- 24:32SPEAKER_05: Uh-huh.
- 24:33SPEAKER_05: Uh-huh.
- 24:34SPEAKER_05: But you know, we can learn from children.
- 24:37SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 24:38SPEAKER_05: We um put too much stake on what we think other people are thinking, at the judgments we think, versus being in the moment and just going after what feels right.
- 24:49SPEAKER_05: We can learn from children.
- 24:52SPEAKER_02: I have three of them.
- 24:54SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 24:56SPEAKER_04: And I'm sure they're all teaching you.
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: 19, 14, and 12.
- 25:00SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: And every last one of them, uh-huh.
- 25:05SPEAKER_02: Their own personality.
- 25:07SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: Their own mindset.
- 25:12SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: But I think there's only one that is just like, dad, that was a little too much.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: That was a little too much.
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: Oh, really?
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: Of course it's my daughter.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: Of course it's her.
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: My baby boy, he doesn't care.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: He will get up.
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: If I'm over here dancing and I know I'm dancing off beat intentionally, I mean, hey.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: He will join in.
- 25:35SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, what?
- 25:38SPEAKER_02: So now I have to question.
- 25:39SPEAKER_02: Are you dancing like that?
- 25:40SPEAKER_02: Because I'm dancing like that, or do you really not have any rhythm?
- 25:44SPEAKER_02: You know, so now I gotta figure this out.
- 25:46SPEAKER_05: You are his teacher.
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: But I'm not gonna say that was embarrassing.
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: You know.
- 25:51SPEAKER_05: Oh, I see what you mean.
- 25:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 25:53SPEAKER_05: Me and my baby boy.
- 25:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 25:55SPEAKER_05: You just be in the moment.
- 25:57SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 25:58SPEAKER_02: Me in the moment.
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: You know.
- 26:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:03SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 26:04SPEAKER_05: I I guess it's it's really good for us to ask is there something we're not doing because we're afraid of embarrassment?
- 26:12SPEAKER_05: Something that's so important to us, so meaningful.
- 26:16SPEAKER_05: It's a dream of ours, but we don't want to be embarrassed.
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: Or say the wrong thing.
- 26:24SPEAKER_02: That was one of my issues, too.
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: I don't remember we talked about it, but um saying the wrong thing, leading to the embarrassment, and knowing that I have what they call the gift of the gap, I can talk to almost anybody about almost anything because I've been through life.
- 26:45SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 26:46SPEAKER_02: I don't play sports, but I remember watching Michael Jordan.
- 26:51SPEAKER_02: I don't, you know, again, I don't play sports, but I remember Bo Jackson.
- 26:56SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 26:56SPEAKER_02: You know, um the uh the guy Ty, he came on.
- 27:03SPEAKER_02: His main thing is sports.
- 27:06SPEAKER_02: His podcast is called Ty Talks because he talks about a lot.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: Okay, but a lot of things end up going back to sports.
- 27:14SPEAKER_02: Uh we say he had a co a whole, he was like, Tay, you really do know more about sports than what you say you do.
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, no.
- 27:22SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: And we were able to have a whole conversation, all the way from Larry Bird and Magic, all the way to LeBron.
- 27:30SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I forgot what I was going.
- 27:35SPEAKER_05: Saying the wrong thing.
- 27:36SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 27:37SPEAKER_05: You were didn't want to, that was the fear.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: That was the whole thing with the, I guess, the educational piece of the last podcast that we were working on.
- 27:50SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 27:52SPEAKER_02: Then the fear of failure because I started vlogging and capturing the things that I was doing back in 2016.
- 28:03SPEAKER_02: And it took until, ooh, that's 10 whole years.
- 28:07SPEAKER_02: It took until this year for me to really be consistent.
- 28:12SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 28:13SPEAKER_02: So you think 2016, 19 uh subscribers.
- 28:20SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 28:21SPEAKER_02: I started last year, that 19 went to 39.
- 28:26SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: Since I've started this year, last I checked, I'm at 118, 119.
- 28:33SPEAKER_03: Okay, look at that.
- 28:34SPEAKER_02: You know, and some people are like, oh, that's nothing to be happy about.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: But you think about the short time frame.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: You know, um, creative roots.
- 28:44SPEAKER_02: Before we got to episode 50, we had a collaboration, you know.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: I don't want to say sponsorship.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: We had a, we, what do you call it?
- 28:55SPEAKER_02: Partnership.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: Partnership.
- 28:56SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 28:57SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: And would any of that have happened?
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: Had I just sat there and just tore my thumbs and didn't say anything, didn't start anything.
- 29:08SPEAKER_05: It takes a lot of courage to go back and retrieve like a dream or a goal that maybe it was some time ago when it first started.
- 29:18SPEAKER_05: Like it takes courage to do that.
- 29:19SPEAKER_05: It it takes getting over pride and how is that gonna look and all that?
- 29:23SPEAKER_05: So that's that's a great thing.
- 29:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: And Aliyah said it best.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: If at first you don't succeed, dust yourself off and try again.
- 29:32SPEAKER_05: That's right.
- 29:33SPEAKER_05: That's right.
- 29:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:36SPEAKER_05: I um it makes me think about when I did that last speaking event, someone asked me, Do you, does your daughter get to go with you and do speaking events?
- 29:47SPEAKER_05: And I had to think about it.
- 29:49SPEAKER_05: I'm like, she was in a stroller the last time I was out speaking.
- 29:56SPEAKER_05: So um this is, you know, this is like retrieving that dream and saying, okay, it's it's time.
- 30:02SPEAKER_05: She was like, You sound like you've been doing this stuff.
- 30:04SPEAKER_05: I'm like, no, I'm coming back for what I want.
- 30:09SPEAKER_02: And this is what we want.
- 30:10SPEAKER_05: This is what we want.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: If you want it, go get it.
- 30:14SPEAKER_02: As long as it's legal, as long as it's legal, go, as long as it's legal, correct, go get it.
- 30:21SPEAKER_04: Correct, correct.
- 30:22SPEAKER_02: Don't be robbing people, don't like orange like that.
- 30:24SPEAKER_04: You don't want that.
- 30:26SPEAKER_02: Because y'all not gonna be in jail talking, well, Tay told me.
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: So I'm just thinking about how just fear kicks people in the butt.
- 30:40SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:42SPEAKER_02: And we've covered three of those things.
- 30:45SPEAKER_02: Um, fear, fear of failure, fear of embarrassment, yes, fear of being judged or misunderstood.
- 30:54SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: And we create a plan B.
- 31:02SPEAKER_02: One thing that I've been saying is you only create a plan B when you don't expect plan A to work.
- 31:09SPEAKER_02: So, what are you gonna do to make sure that this is the only plan?
- 31:13SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 31:14SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: I'm trying to remember what I used to tell my mom.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, trying is the first step of failure.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: Because you can say you're trying, but from my experience dealing with people, you say, well, I'ma try.
- 31:37SPEAKER_02: Well, I'm gonna see about doing that this weekend.
- 31:40SPEAKER_02: You do realize that it's Monday, right?
- 31:43SPEAKER_02: Well, I I can understand if it's like, well, I'm trying to learn this, and you're actually trying.
- 31:52SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: Let's remove this whole word of try.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: Let's just say, I'm going to.
- 31:58SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 31:58SPEAKER_02: You know, when it when it came to learning DaVinci Resolve, I got tired of paying for Adobe.
- 32:05SPEAKER_02: I'm using it once every two months, and I'm kicking out$60 a month.
- 32:11SPEAKER_02: So$120 only to spend eight hours through the whole creative suite.
- 32:19SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 32:19SPEAKER_02: You know, you edit in Premiere.
- 32:21SPEAKER_02: If need be, you go to um After Effects, and then you create your thumbnail on Photoshop.
- 32:28SPEAKER_02: And if you need to create a graphic, you do it on Illustrator.
- 32:31unknown: Okay.
- 32:32SPEAKER_02: And then that's everything that I'm putting out for the next two months on my motorcycle channel.
- 32:37SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 32:38SPEAKER_02: And I don't touch it again for another two months.
- 32:41SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 32:42SPEAKER_02: That's a lot of money.
- 32:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: So I said, I have no other choice but to learn how to use DaVinci Resolve.
- 32:49SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 32:50SPEAKER_02: I forced myself how to do it.
- 32:53SPEAKER_02: I gave myself a crunch.
- 32:54SPEAKER_02: I said, Well, you got a week before you got to put this motorcycle video out.
- 32:57SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 32:58SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 32:58SPEAKER_02: What you gonna do?
- 32:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 33:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 33:00SPEAKER_02: And I sat there after watching the tutorials, after listening to these tutorials, I said, that's it.
- 33:08SPEAKER_02: I'm tired of paying.
- 33:10SPEAKER_02: I gotta figure this out.
- 33:11SPEAKER_05: We could sometimes we give ourselves too much wiggle room.
- 33:15SPEAKER_05: We need like a tight, tight deadline.
- 33:17SPEAKER_05: If if this isn't, if this isn't making sense by X amount of date, I need to cut it off.
- 33:25SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 33:26SPEAKER_05: Um, there was one point in my career I had to make that choice.
- 33:28SPEAKER_05: Like, okay, this is not making sense.
- 33:31SPEAKER_05: This is not making sense.
- 33:32SPEAKER_05: I got a master's degree.
- 33:34SPEAKER_05: This needs to make some sense.
- 33:36SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 33:37SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 33:38SPEAKER_05: You know, when you invested, you know, a certain amount of time, certain amount of money, certain amount of sacrifice, so we need that kick in the pants of, okay, it's now and ever.
- 33:46SPEAKER_05: So that put me in the headspace of what am I willing to do differently that I have not done, that is outside of my comfort zone, that I know is likely going to work.
- 33:57SPEAKER_05: And usually we're not at that, the cusp of that until something dire happens.
- 34:02SPEAKER_05: So we have to create that sometimes.
- 34:05SPEAKER_02: That's the moment you put yourself in the box.
- 34:09SPEAKER_02: Not out of fear, out of determination.
- 34:12SPEAKER_05: Exactly.
- 34:13SPEAKER_05: Exactly.
- 34:14SPEAKER_02: I'm fine with being in that determination box.
- 34:19SPEAKER_02: Because it keeps you grounded.
- 34:23SPEAKER_02: That helps remove some, for me, helps remove some distractions.
- 34:28SPEAKER_05: That's true.
- 34:29SPEAKER_05: And excuses.
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: Definitely the excuses.
- 34:32SPEAKER_02: Oh, I didn't have time.
- 34:34SPEAKER_02: Well, nobody told you to scroll on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok and then go to YouTube for five hours when you dedicated that time to growth.
- 34:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 34:45SPEAKER_05: That's another part is getting our nervous system accustomed to doing scary stuff, things outside of our comfort zone over and over, putting ourselves out there over and over.
- 34:57SPEAKER_05: Otherwise, it's just a scary experience overall.
- 35:01SPEAKER_05: We have to fortify and build that up, you know.
- 35:05SPEAKER_02: And then that leads to crazy.
- 35:10SPEAKER_04: What you mean?
- 35:12SPEAKER_02: Or is it now?
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: No, I think it's insanity.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: Doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result.
- 35:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 35:20SPEAKER_02: And then that's when you go crazy.
- 35:23SPEAKER_02: Because I know for me it's like, I want brand deals, I want sponsorships.
- 35:28SPEAKER_05: I want those are coming.
- 35:30SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 35:31SPEAKER_02: I want these people to reach out to me.
- 35:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: But I'm not doing anything for them to even know I exist.
- 35:38SPEAKER_06: Ah, yeah.
- 35:39SPEAKER_02: So I start my research, how to get brand deals, how to get sponsorships, how to do these things.
- 35:46SPEAKER_02: Now, this is where some people take a break, they pause, they feel like they've gotten information, but then they don't do anything.
- 35:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 35:58SPEAKER_02: I'm listening to these, but I have yet to sit and take notes.
- 36:03SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 36:04SPEAKER_02: The retention to be able to hold on to all these things.
- 36:09SPEAKER_02: Like I can listen to a whole video and say, okay, one, two, and three.
- 36:13SPEAKER_02: I'm already doing one and two.
- 36:15SPEAKER_02: I need to do three.
- 36:16SPEAKER_02: So now I add three to my mental list.
- 36:20SPEAKER_02: And now I'm in the motions of doing it, but it's like, why am I doing this?
- 36:26SPEAKER_02: I forgot.
- 36:27SPEAKER_02: I have to go back to this video.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: This 28-minute long video.
- 36:34SPEAKER_02: Again.
- 36:35SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 36:37SPEAKER_02: Because I want change.
- 36:39SPEAKER_06: Mm-hmm.
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: This time, let me write it out.
- 36:43SPEAKER_06: Good.
- 36:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 36:44SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 36:45SPEAKER_02: So, like you said, sometimes you have to revisit.
- 36:48SPEAKER_05: You do.
- 36:49SPEAKER_05: And even hearing you describe that, oftentimes when we do get the steps, we get overwhelmed.
- 36:56SPEAKER_05: Like, I gotta do all of that.
- 37:01SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: Um it's alive.
- 37:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah, because it it typically is.
- 37:07SPEAKER_05: Like, if you're gonna be successful at something, it's likely gonna be hard.
- 37:14SPEAKER_05: Well, everybody else will be doing it.
- 37:17SPEAKER_05: Correct.
- 37:18SPEAKER_02: If it was that easy, yeah, we'd all have it made.
- 37:23SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 37:24SPEAKER_05: That's another part that I find, whether it's someone new in a creative space or they've been doing it a while and they're doing something different, stretching themselves.
- 37:34SPEAKER_05: Sometimes we have a fear of asking for help.
- 37:39SPEAKER_02: Say it one more time.
- 37:41SPEAKER_05: Sometimes we have a fear of asking for help, that pride.
- 37:50SPEAKER_05: Whether we're just starting out or we've built a brand, but we know we need to pivot, but that pivot is outside of our comfort zone or somewhere we haven't gone before.
- 38:01SPEAKER_05: We need to ask for help.
- 38:03SPEAKER_02: Just ask.
- 38:04SPEAKER_05: For real.
- 38:05SPEAKER_05: And sometimes you might have to invest.
- 38:08SPEAKER_05: But do what you gotta do.
- 38:11SPEAKER_02: And when you ask, make sure you ask the right people.
- 38:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: You can't ask everybody everything.
- 38:24SPEAKER_02: And I want to say we touched on that before.
- 38:28SPEAKER_02: You can't.
- 38:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 38:30SPEAKER_02: You can't.
- 38:31SPEAKER_02: And and I know for me, when I am asked, I can't say yes to everything either.
- 38:37SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 38:38SPEAKER_06: Mm-hmm.
- 38:39SPEAKER_02: So you can't ask someone who doesn't know anything about running a business, how to run a business.
- 38:48SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 38:49SPEAKER_02: Unless that person has read so many books, and then they're living in this state of fear of getting out there.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: Because we all know people that that read.
- 39:00SPEAKER_05: Walk and talk and library.
- 39:02SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 39:02SPEAKER_02: That part.
- 39:03SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 39:03SPEAKER_05: But the fear of failure.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 39:06SPEAKER_05: Perfectionism, all those things.
- 39:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 39:08SPEAKER_02: Oh, perfectionism.
- 39:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 39:10SPEAKER_02: I had to let that go.
- 39:12SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 39:13SPEAKER_05: That's an ongoing.
- 39:15SPEAKER_05: Okay, I can't let this stop me.
- 39:17SPEAKER_05: Let me just do what I know I need to do.
- 39:18SPEAKER_05: It's ongoing.
- 39:20SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 39:22SPEAKER_02: And then in the midst of that, overthinking.
- 39:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 39:27SPEAKER_02: Now you're too busy focused on being embarrassed and trying not to be embarrassed that you don't even remember what you were supposed to be doing in the first place.
- 39:36SPEAKER_05: It's amazing how you can live in your head and not with your feet on the ground doing what needs to be done.
- 39:43SPEAKER_02: So many conversations up there by yourself.
- 39:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: You've mapped out every conversation with every single person.
- 39:50SPEAKER_02: When you do mention these things, and then when you had that conversation, that's not it.
- 39:55SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 39:56SPEAKER_02: That is not how it goes.
- 39:58SPEAKER_02: I'm talking to me.
- 39:59SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 40:00SPEAKER_02: I'm talking to y'all too, but I'm talking to me.
- 40:02SPEAKER_06: It's all of us.
- 40:03SPEAKER_06: It's all of us.
- 40:05SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 40:06SPEAKER_02: So I know one thing is what I have had to deal with, right?
- 40:15SPEAKER_02: The whole overthinking part.
- 40:20SPEAKER_02: I have to move when that thought is there.
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: Because if not, now I'm overthinking.
- 40:28SPEAKER_02: Now I don't do.
- 40:29SPEAKER_06: That's true.
- 40:31SPEAKER_02: You know, and I've I've told, you know, multiple people, I have to continue to go.
- 40:37SPEAKER_02: I have to continue to move because I know that thought comes in.
- 40:43SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay, okay, let's bring this together.
- 40:46SPEAKER_02: All right, now we have a plan.
- 40:48SPEAKER_02: Good point.
- 40:49SPEAKER_02: Let's go.
- 40:49SPEAKER_05: Because you got the momentum right there.
- 40:51SPEAKER_05: And like you said, you're not overthinking.
- 40:54SPEAKER_05: One of the uh business mentors I listen to says, money like speed.
- 40:59SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 41:01SPEAKER_05: Money like speed.
- 41:02SPEAKER_05: Don't sit on this for too long.
- 41:03SPEAKER_05: If you know this is the thing you need to do, make it happen.
- 41:06SPEAKER_05: Rearrange whatever you gotta rearrange.
- 41:07SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 41:08SPEAKER_05: While the the fire is hot.
- 41:12SPEAKER_02: Keep your head up during the process, too.
- 41:14SPEAKER_02: I'm just dropping that in there.
- 41:16SPEAKER_02: Because a lot of times we kick the dust, expecting certain things to happen.
- 41:23SPEAKER_02: And then wonder why the money gone and and we not we're not with it.
- 41:30SPEAKER_02: Because we're sitting too long, overthinking.
- 41:33SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 41:34SPEAKER_02: Scared.
- 41:34SPEAKER_05: Of course.
- 41:35SPEAKER_02: Not scared.
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: Scared.
- 41:37SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 41:38SPEAKER_05: For sure.
- 41:39SPEAKER_05: For sure.
- 41:40SPEAKER_05: Especially, you know, a lot of the the dreams and goals we have, they're tied to our livelihood too.
- 41:47SPEAKER_05: That can be very scary.
- 41:49SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 41:50SPEAKER_05: Very scary.
- 41:51SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 41:52SPEAKER_02: So I'm I'm gonna put this out there.
- 41:55SPEAKER_02: And I I think most people know by now.
- 42:00SPEAKER_02: I picked up my first camera, 2008, 2010.
- 42:05SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
- 42:07SPEAKER_02: When you look at the the line, I wanted people to see what I was doing, but I wasn't doing anything for them to see.
- 42:19SPEAKER_02: And it got to a point where it's like, I gotta do.
- 42:25SPEAKER_02: I gotta go.
- 42:26SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna have to contact some people.
- 42:28SPEAKER_02: Hey, let me shoot the music video.
- 42:31SPEAKER_02: Let me shoot the commercial.
- 42:33SPEAKER_05: Nice, nice.
- 42:34SPEAKER_02: 2017.
- 42:37SPEAKER_02: Well, let me die back.
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: I started the company, my LLC, in 2016.
- 42:42SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 42:43SPEAKER_02: Because I said I'm taking it serious.
- 42:44SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 42:46SPEAKER_02: Another moment where you, for me, where I was a little shaky, I built my first custom PC, my hands.
- 42:54SPEAKER_02: I didn't order it.
- 42:55SPEAKER_02: I built it.
- 42:56SPEAKER_02: Oh, you get one thing wrong.
- 42:58SPEAKER_02: Especially the way you lay that process on that motherboard.
- 43:01SPEAKER_02: Oh, you break one of them pins.
- 43:03SPEAKER_02: That was$400,$600 that I'm gonna have to spend again.
- 43:07SPEAKER_05: Oh my.
- 43:08SPEAKER_05: Oh my.
- 43:09SPEAKER_02: For another one.
- 43:11SPEAKER_02: So the company starts in 2016.
- 43:14SPEAKER_02: Come 2018, I shoot my first documentary.
- 43:19SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 43:20SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 43:22SPEAKER_02: And because things weren't moving, because again, I'm expecting people to see me build it, and they're gonna come.
- 43:29SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 43:31SPEAKER_02: And and that was it.
- 43:33SPEAKER_02: I built it and I'm like, so where they at?
- 43:36SPEAKER_04: Been there.
- 43:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, been there.
- 43:38SPEAKER_02: And like you said, things being tied to your livelihood.
- 43:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 43:42SPEAKER_02: I can't continue to live like this with the day job that I have.
- 43:46SPEAKER_02: And that's when I got on the truck.
- 43:48SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 43:49SPEAKER_02: But people knowing who I am and what I do, even while I'm on the truck, I was pitched to shoot a film.
- 43:57SPEAKER_03: Cool.
- 43:58SPEAKER_02: Okay, cool.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: Cool.
- 44:01SPEAKER_02: Let me go get this new camera.
- 44:03SPEAKER_02: Let me start learning how to use it.
- 44:06SPEAKER_02: Well, we didn't get to shooting that feature film, but I still had to learn this camera.
- 44:16SPEAKER_02: We're talking$2,000 on a camera.
- 44:19unknown: Oh my gosh.
- 44:20SPEAKER_02: With a lens and insurance, we're talking$3,500.
- 44:25SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 44:26SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna give.
- 44:27SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you gotta make it make sense.
- 44:29SPEAKER_02: I need to learn.
- 44:30SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 44:31SPEAKER_02: Because I know what I can do.
- 44:33SPEAKER_02: I just need to make sure I can do it with this camera.
- 44:35SPEAKER_02: Because, like you said, that money is flowing.
- 44:38SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: That money is going.
- 44:40SPEAKER_02: And yes, it's like the money train.
- 44:44SPEAKER_02: It's you can get on and you just watch it go by.
- 44:47SPEAKER_02: Don't rob it though.
- 44:48SPEAKER_02: You know.
- 44:49SPEAKER_05: I gotta, I gotta just say, I'm so loving what I'm hearing.
- 44:55SPEAKER_05: Because how many of us have bought all the stuff and got all the stuff in order and got the LLC and went and did all the paperwork, but didn't go and do the thing.
- 45:10SPEAKER_05: Like we good at all the logistics.
- 45:15SPEAKER_02: And to that point, when we started the record label almost right after high school, that's all I was supposed to do.
- 45:27SPEAKER_02: I was the manager, I was the one that took care of all the paperwork.
- 45:31SPEAKER_02: So it's easy for me to do all the paperwork.
- 45:34SPEAKER_02: But when it comes time to being in front of the cameras, like when it's time to be able to do that.
- 45:41SPEAKER_05: Is that the marketing part?
- 45:43SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 45:43SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 45:44SPEAKER_05: Because that's the fuel of the engine.
- 45:46SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 45:48SPEAKER_05: And that's what we tend not to like to do.
- 45:50SPEAKER_02: We're talking about everything that lets people know.
- 45:55SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 45:56SPEAKER_05: You know.
- 45:56SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 45:57SPEAKER_05: Uh uh top of mind.
- 45:59SPEAKER_05: That's one of those marketing principles.
- 46:01SPEAKER_05: We always want to be top of mind, but that means consistently showing up.
- 46:06SPEAKER_05: I know I had to deal with like, are they gonna think I'm just full of myself?
- 46:10SPEAKER_05: I'm always on social media.
- 46:13SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 46:14SPEAKER_05: Oh well, oh well.
- 46:15SPEAKER_05: This is this is what this is what my dream needs.
- 46:19SPEAKER_05: This is what it needs.
- 46:24SPEAKER_02: I can't, I want to say it was like 2011, 2012.
- 46:27SPEAKER_02: Shout out to Crystalin.
- 46:29SPEAKER_02: I love you, Chris.
- 46:30SPEAKER_02: Don't come for me either.
- 46:32SPEAKER_02: But she was the one that told me way back then, you are talking about running a business, you need to be on social media.
- 46:40SPEAKER_05: Because I said, I will never, never.
- 46:44SPEAKER_05: You're too good for social media.
- 46:45SPEAKER_02: You say what now?
- 46:47SPEAKER_05: You're too good for social media.
- 46:48SPEAKER_02: No, I'm not too good.
- 46:50SPEAKER_02: I just didn't care for it.
- 46:51SPEAKER_02: Because again, I don't care about what y'all doing in college and eating.
- 47:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't care.
- 47:01SPEAKER_02: You know, and this is back in like 2011, 2012.
- 47:04SPEAKER_02: I don't care.
- 47:06SPEAKER_02: Yes, but it's like, so I gotta make this Twitter account.
- 47:10SPEAKER_02: Listen, I gotta get on Facebook, right?
- 47:16SPEAKER_02: And my face is like this the whole time, just and even with that, uh-huh, you have to put yourself out there, but separate your business from your personal.
- 47:34SPEAKER_02: I don't want to go to your business page or look for you under your business name, and then you tell me, oh, it's under this name, then it's your personal page.
- 47:45SPEAKER_02: You are a baker, and I only see two videos of you baking, uh-oh.
- 47:49SPEAKER_02: And everything else is I'm not even gonna go there.
- 47:52SPEAKER_05: No, you need to.
- 47:53SPEAKER_05: It's it's professionalism, and you're confusing folks.
- 47:56SPEAKER_05: And if and if you do seven different things and you got all seven on there, people confused about what your expertise really is.
- 48:04SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 48:06SPEAKER_02: Yes, I'm putting this on on camera.
- 48:08SPEAKER_02: Okay, I don't care.
- 48:09SPEAKER_02: Listen.
- 48:10SPEAKER_05: Moisturize.
- 48:11SPEAKER_05: Listen, when they dry, hydrated, we gotta fix them.
- 48:15SPEAKER_02: You gotta fix them.
- 48:16SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 48:17SPEAKER_02: But even with that, I ask myself, do I need separate pages for every single thing that I do?
- 48:25SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, photographer, videographer, video editor, uh uh podcaster, podcast studio owner, uh-huh, you know.
- 48:37SPEAKER_02: Uh, and there are so many Christian hip-hop artists.
- 48:41SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 48:41SPEAKER_02: There are uh coaching, like social media coaching, uh being on camera, yeah, you know.
- 48:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 48:54SPEAKER_02: And that's just seven.
- 48:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 48:56SPEAKER_02: Like you said, seven different things.
- 48:57SPEAKER_02: And there are more things on my list.
- 49:01SPEAKER_05: Most of those tie together.
- 49:02SPEAKER_05: Like you're not coaching, car washing and doing taxes and doing hands.
- 49:08SPEAKER_02: And that's that's what I was gonna get to.
- 49:11SPEAKER_02: You have to know what ties together.
- 49:13SPEAKER_04: Right, right, right.
- 49:15SPEAKER_02: But even then, you have to know what do you want to be known for?
- 49:19SPEAKER_05: Right, right.
- 49:20SPEAKER_02: Because if I'm a business, let's say, let's put it this way.
- 49:23SPEAKER_02: You know I do photography and videography, right?
- 49:25SPEAKER_05: Yes, uh-huh.
- 49:26SPEAKER_02: But you know me.
- 49:27SPEAKER_05: I do.
- 49:28SPEAKER_02: But if you saw all those other things on my Instagram page, or well, I'm gonna say on the Instagram page because that's where some people go.
- 49:36SPEAKER_02: Instagram, TikTok.
- 49:38SPEAKER_02: Um, yes, they go to websites, but we're gonna hold off on that.
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: If you went to my Instagram page and you saw all of that, what are you gonna see that you know I'm good at besides all of these things?
- 49:53SPEAKER_05: Uh confusion.
- 49:56SPEAKER_02: Confusion.
- 49:58SPEAKER_05: I am except not you, because what you describe sounds like it connects.
- 50:04SPEAKER_05: You know, videography and photography, yeah.
- 50:08SPEAKER_05: Oh, and podcasts, and it all goes hand in hand because you have the visual.
- 50:12SPEAKER_05: But if you were frying chicken and you had a shoeline and you had a, you know.
- 50:17SPEAKER_02: My clothing line, and and then I tell you, um, yeah, I'm also a gamer and I stream.
- 50:23SPEAKER_05: Those are hustles, those are side hustles.
- 50:26SPEAKER_05: That doesn't give uh a legit business with expertise.
- 50:31SPEAKER_02: Correct.
- 50:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you don't need me for my gaming streaming capabilities.
- 50:36SPEAKER_02: No, you don't need me for whipping up the chicken because I can cook, I can throw down.
- 50:44SPEAKER_02: I'm better on the grill than I am on the stove.
- 50:46SPEAKER_05: But okay, okay.
- 50:48SPEAKER_05: Grill master.
- 50:49SPEAKER_02: Yes, but if I threw all of that on there, yeah, and then you see me at the club, then you see me at the cigar land, and then you see me pranking people, and then you see me doing whatever else.
- 51:04SPEAKER_02: What do you do?
- 51:06SPEAKER_02: What do you do?
- 51:07SPEAKER_05: What are you doing?
- 51:08SPEAKER_05: I actually come from it at a different angle too.
- 51:12SPEAKER_05: Um, when I first started my practice, this is like almost 10 years ago now, um, I was also doing speaking at the same time.
- 51:21SPEAKER_05: And I'm trying to create clientele for both of these, build them both by scratch.
- 51:27SPEAKER_05: I had to end up end up picking one to focus on.
- 51:31SPEAKER_05: Because the traction being divided, being divided, you can do many things, but if you really hone in on one main thing, you can go a lot further.
- 51:42SPEAKER_05: So now that my my uh private practice has been stable for a long time, I'm like, I can I can have this stable over here and now build up this other one, you know.
- 51:53SPEAKER_05: So I know for me, divided focus over time was not beneficial.
- 51:59SPEAKER_05: It was only until I chose to hone in on one that I could really, you know, raise it up to where I wanted it to be.
- 52:06SPEAKER_02: That says a lot.
- 52:08SPEAKER_02: Divided focus over time.
- 52:10SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 52:12SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 52:13SPEAKER_05: Because how do you prevent yourself from constantly being in burnout if you're divided in multiple ways and then because we need that consistency, but you know, in burnout be kicking your butt.
- 52:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 52:27SPEAKER_02: I'm not gonna say I'm in burnout, but I know if I don't start Xing things off the list and slowing down.
- 52:35SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 52:36SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 52:37SPEAKER_02: I the studio has to stand by any means necessary.
- 52:44SPEAKER_02: Creative Roots has to stand by any means necessary.
- 52:51SPEAKER_02: And my me documenting my journey Tay with the edits, it has to stand because Charlotte Podcast Studio brings in the clients, the clientele.
- 53:10SPEAKER_02: They sustain the funds to run the business.
- 53:13SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 53:14SPEAKER_02: Creative roots, I can't let that go because that is where my mental health is able to be released.
- 53:25SPEAKER_02: I'm able to talk to people.
- 53:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 53:28SPEAKER_02: You know, I'm able to do so many different things and make connections.
- 53:33SPEAKER_02: And to me, like I said, we don't do interviews, we have conversations.
- 53:40SPEAKER_02: And I mean, that's kind of what you do when you network.
- 53:44SPEAKER_06: That's true.
- 53:44SPEAKER_02: You know, you get people that that come in.
- 53:48SPEAKER_02: We're having a networking conversation.
- 53:50SPEAKER_02: If I don't even like the word networking because it's just so saturated, it's just so watered down now.
- 53:56SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 53:57SPEAKER_05: You know, but and transactional.
- 54:00SPEAKER_02: Very, very, you know, and so we we have these conversations.
- 54:06SPEAKER_02: I'm able to talk freely.
- 54:09SPEAKER_02: There's never seldomly there are set topics, but so much can come out of these set topics.
- 54:20SPEAKER_02: And Tay with the edits to me is the way to get the majority of the streamline, affiliate brand deals, and sponsorships.
- 54:33SPEAKER_02: And I can go edit whichever lane.
- 54:36SPEAKER_02: Like Creative Roots, okay.
- 54:37SPEAKER_02: We want more podcasting equipment.
- 54:41SPEAKER_02: I can use Creative Roots to get that.
- 54:43SPEAKER_02: You know, I didn't reach out to the company for these microphones.
- 54:46SPEAKER_02: They sent they contacted me.
- 54:48SPEAKER_05: Nice, nice.
- 54:49SPEAKER_02: So it's like, again, if they contacted me, then who can I contact?
- 54:54SPEAKER_02: But I have to know what I want, right?
- 54:58SPEAKER_02: And then, yes, all three of those are a collective, but they do have their separate individual lanes because they can stand on their own.
- 55:10SPEAKER_02: You know, Dina and Shamar can run Creative Roots without me being here, you know.
- 55:15SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 55:15SPEAKER_02: Creative Roots does not have to quote unquote die.
- 55:18SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 55:19SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 55:19SPEAKER_02: It doesn't have to be put to the side.
- 55:21SPEAKER_05: That's great.
- 55:22SPEAKER_05: That's that's a real, real CEO mindset of business owner mindset of I don't have to have my hand in all the pots.
- 55:29SPEAKER_02: Correct.
- 55:29SPEAKER_05: I can step away.
- 55:30SPEAKER_05: I have systems in place where it can keep going.
- 55:33SPEAKER_05: But sometimes as as hard workers, especially if we come from Hummel Beginners, we're used to seeing hard workers being the worker bees.
- 55:41SPEAKER_05: We're not used to delegating.
- 55:43SPEAKER_04: We're used to doing all of it.
- 55:47SPEAKER_02: And sometimes when you do delegate, it's kind of like mom at home, right?
- 55:56SPEAKER_02: You didn't clean the kitchen the way she would, she expected you to.
- 55:59SPEAKER_02: You didn't clean the bathroom, you didn't make your makeup your bed.
- 56:02SPEAKER_02: So it's like you have a set level of expectation, and when it's not reached, you have to decide do I delegate this again or do I train or teach?
- 56:17SPEAKER_02: And that's nothing toward Shamar and Dina.
- 56:20SPEAKER_02: I want to make sure that everybody knows.
- 56:24SPEAKER_05: We're talking business over here, that's it.
- 56:25SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 56:27SPEAKER_02: Because I mean, when you have a record label and it's six of y'all, and you get three people that are like, I just want to rap, I just want to rap, I just want to rap.
- 56:37SPEAKER_02: And then the other one is like, I just want to make the beats.
- 56:40SPEAKER_02: Then you have one more that's like, well, what you need me to do, but then they're independent.
- 56:46SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 56:46SPEAKER_05: Oh, okay.
- 56:47SPEAKER_05: They're self-starters, like they're hungry.
- 56:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you gotta have the right fit.
- 56:53SPEAKER_05: You gotta have the right fit.
- 56:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 56:55SPEAKER_02: So then everything is left on you.
- 56:57SPEAKER_02: And then, you know.
- 57:00SPEAKER_02: And like you said earlier, off camera, at some point you gotta get an assistant.
- 57:04SPEAKER_05: You got to.
- 57:05SPEAKER_02: It doesn't matter if it's a virtual assistant, an AI assistant, yeah, or if it is a physical person.
- 57:12SPEAKER_05: Right, right.
- 57:13SPEAKER_02: You're gonna have to get an assistant.
- 57:17SPEAKER_02: So I'm looking for an assistant.
- 57:18SPEAKER_05: Hey, I got you.
- 57:20SPEAKER_05: I got you.
- 57:21SPEAKER_05: We'll talk offline.
- 57:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we're gonna.
- 57:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 57:24SPEAKER_05: Listen, hey, hey.
- 57:26SPEAKER_02: Sometimes you just need to take that step back.
- 57:29SPEAKER_05: You do, and you do, and you need to have those checks and balances.
- 57:33SPEAKER_05: Like you said, do you do you just get discouraged when you partner with somebody that was ranked, that was uh flaky, that you know, isn't isn't as motivated as you are, isn't as organized as you are.
- 57:47SPEAKER_02: No, those are the two things, not as motivated, yeah.
- 57:51SPEAKER_02: And not on the same level of where you where you are, and you see it a lot, you hear it a lot, you know.
- 58:04SPEAKER_02: Oh, we you know, one of my issues, I wanted to bring everybody with me.
- 58:10SPEAKER_05: Ooh, that's a good one.
- 58:12SPEAKER_05: That's another one.
- 58:13SPEAKER_02: That's a good one, and that falls into that fear of failure because they are dependent on me.
- 58:20SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 58:21SPEAKER_02: It's like a MM D12 50 Cent G unit type thing.
- 58:26SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 58:27SPEAKER_02: Some people don't even know who D12 is.
- 58:30SPEAKER_05: I don't, but I'm I'm with you.
- 58:32SPEAKER_02: D12 is the group that he went back to get.
- 58:34SPEAKER_05: Oh, okay.
- 58:35SPEAKER_02: So they they had albums, and but nobody was ever like a breakout solo artist.
- 58:41SPEAKER_05: Ah, okay.
- 58:43SPEAKER_05: He was the star.
- 58:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 58:45SPEAKER_05: He was the star.
- 58:47SPEAKER_02: It's like they were dependent on Eminem, and even though he's like, no, y'all go do that, the ball drops.
- 58:55SPEAKER_02: Then you had 50 Cent and G Unit, who's like, okay, so my album did this.
- 59:01SPEAKER_02: We're not coming out with another 50 Cent album.
- 59:04SPEAKER_02: You need to go ahead and release their albums, which increased their album sales for Lloyd, uh, yeah, Lloyd Banks and Yeo.
- 59:11SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 59:11SPEAKER_02: And even Young Buck.
- 59:12SPEAKER_02: Because 51st album is like two features, maybe three.
- 59:18SPEAKER_02: And then there was a pause.
- 59:21SPEAKER_02: And then you have all of your unit.
- 59:23SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 59:24SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 59:25SPEAKER_02: So in that motion, I'm coming back to get y'all.
- 59:29SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 59:30SPEAKER_02: While I have momentum.
- 59:31SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 59:32SPEAKER_02: Jump on the train.
- 59:32SPEAKER_02: It's like a relay race.
- 59:34SPEAKER_02: I'm passing you the baton.
- 59:36SPEAKER_02: Let's keep this thing rolling.
- 59:39SPEAKER_05: But when those bright lights turn on, they're bright.
- 59:43SPEAKER_05: So even though you got the baton, like, I'm scared though.
- 59:48unknown: Yeah.
- 59:49SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 59:50SPEAKER_02: And then you have people that stop.
- 59:51SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 59:52SPEAKER_02: So now they can't pass the baton.
- 59:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 59:54SPEAKER_02: But even in this relay, I'm gonna run beside you, I'm gonna run with you, I'm gonna give you the baton.
- 59:59SPEAKER_02: We're gonna run together.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_02: And it's I'm gonna keep going.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I have to.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_02: I can no longer worry about who I'm bringing with me.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_05: Let me add this.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_05: Um, don't forget where you came from.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_05: The guilt.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_05: There's guilt in success.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_05: Survivor's guilt.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_05: It's survivor's guilt.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_02: Or don't forget me when you make it.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_05: I had to, I had to nip that in the bud a few times.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_05: Me too.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_05: People around me started to say that.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_05: Like you can't, you can't be connected with me and say that.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_05: And I let them know that.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_05: You cannot be connected with me and say things like that.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_05: Because I'm like, how are you looking at me?
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_05: We don't need any any ounces of jealousy or uh why I didn't get picked.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_05: Like you can't have that around.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_02: You have to understand your lane and the people that can run in it.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_02: And the people that cannot run in your lane, guess what?
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_02: They'll go four or five other lanes over there.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_02: They can run.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_02: Run your own race.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_02: Run your own race.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_05: They have their lane.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_05: But only if we can see that we have a lane, we have one.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_02: You have to see that you have your own lane.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_05: Speaking of that, stop copying people.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_02: No comment.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_02: No comment.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_04: I just want to put that right in there.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_02: Now, if you have to take certain parts, make it your own.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_02: Please.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_02: But don't just take everything.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_02: Like, there's a guy.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_02: Um, oh, I see his face.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_02: Oh, I can't remember his name.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_02: He's a gamer, but the most of the things that I see is like gear review and PC bills, right?
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_02: When he talks about a new product coming out, there was another guy who would literally say almost everything word for word, or the end of the sentence, he would put it at the beginning.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_05: So if it was like Kai's, what is his name?
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_05: Kai sent.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_02: No, not Kai.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay, okay.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_02: Uh-uh.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_02: It's, I don't remember what his name is.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_02: Zach Tech Tips.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_02: ZTT, I think is what his channel is.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_02: Then there's another guy who would, so it's like, hey, there's this new processor coming out, and it just might be the best budget processor for gamers.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_02: And then it's like, the best budget processor for gamers is coming soon.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_02: You don't want to, and it's like, and then you're using the same graphics.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_02: Yes, don't do everything.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_02: If you're gonna copy it, you still need to make it your own.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_02: Like, okay, I like the way they did this music video.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_02: I like the way they captured this event.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_02: You don't necessarily have to capture it the same way.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_02: You don't necessarily have to use the same graphic overlays.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_02: For instance, there was a client, she was like, hey, I want this announcement video for my college graduation.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_02: I want it to look like this.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_02: I saw it and I instantly said, I would never do that.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_02: But I'm gonna give her some of those key elements.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_02: Okay, but you're not gonna get that from me.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_02: And copying some of the things that are in there to create it because that's what she asked for.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_02: But understanding, I'm not about to You're not about to play draft.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_02: I'm not a play, no, I'm not about to do that.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_02: You know, so you have to take take what you can.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_02: For instance, when I do short films, Shamar will tell you it's another uh spike tay joint.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_05: Okay, I like it.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_02: Because I grew up on Spike Tay, yeah.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_02: John Singleton.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_02: You know, there there are many other ones, but those are the main two, you know, Minister Society.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_02: Uh the the Wayans brothers.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_05: Even when we were coming up, the music videos were like movies.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_02: So you I'm pulling in what I've seen, but I'm not taking everything that Spikely did.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_02: I'm not taking everything from John Singleton.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_02: The Hughes brothers, if I remember correctly, I'm not taking everything from them.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_02: You know, there was a point where I mock Tupac, but I would never put it on record.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_02: You know, I ain't no killer, but don't push me.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_02: And people are like, you sound like this.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_02: No, no, I don't.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_02: No, I don't sound like Pac.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_02: I know I know how to get in that bag.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_05: Sure, sure, sure.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_05: And sure.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_02: I'm writing how Tupac would write.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_02: But I'm not giving his tone.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_02: I would write like a ludicrous.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_02: I would do these things, but I'm not copying.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_05: But you know, this this makes so on the deeper end, it makes me wonder about a self-esteem piece and a self-value piece.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_05: Because if you know who you are and you know that your perspective is relevant and it's valuable, then you don't have to mimic other people.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_05: Like there's a saying, success leaves clues.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_05: So you can look at kind of the framework, okay.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_05: You know, the the layout, okay, but the essence of who I am, what I bring, I'm using that because I know that's unique and that's valuable.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_05: We have to know what we bring is of value.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_02: You have to know what you bring.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_02: And then understand the value of the I bring a lot to the table.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_05: Nice.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_05: I bring a lot.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_02: But I'm about to start taking stuff off the table.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_02: Listen, I'm about to go over here and take this myself.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_02: When I did the, this is gonna sound crazy.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_02: When I tried to redo the record label, because now I'm a Christian hip hop artist and I'm redoing some things and I'm getting different artists.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_02: Something that I've always said, and I told Shamar he does that, he's done this too.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_02: I said, we have prepared a buffet.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_02: For people to come in and eat.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_02: But they only come in, they see all the food and all the pleasures that they can.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_02: I mean, we talking, I'm gonna go here, ribs, we talking chicken, baked chicken, fried chicken, different flavors chicken.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_02: We talking steak, we talking wai goo.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_02: We not just talking the little$10 strip out of Walmart.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_02: You have all these things.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_02: All you got to do is sit down and eat.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_02: You grab the bottle of water and said, I'm gonna go sit outside.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_02: Let me know when y'all finish.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_02: We're bringing so much to the table.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_02: We're welcoming people in.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_02: We don't have the fear at this point.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_06: Right, right.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_02: We're not embarrassed at this point.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_02: And if we're misunderstood, then you weren't my target audience, or you weren't supposed to be here anyway.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_06: That's right.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_02: And I'm trying to help you get out of all these quirks, all these issues, the internal battle.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_05: So now you become the coach.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_05: So now I'm a teacher.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_05: Wow, we ain't got time for that.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_05: Serious inquiries only.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_02: Serious, very serious.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_02: Because there's a lot of knowledge that's here.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_02: There's a lot of knowledge that's there.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_02: And I've taught people listen, if you want to run a gaming channel, this is what you do.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_03: Nice.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_02: If you want to get into photography, this is what you do.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_02: If you want to get into videography, this is what you need to learn.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_02: I'm giving out free advice all the time.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_02: I just told someone yesterday, oh, I'm a little nervous about getting on social media, but I want to do, you know, da-da-da-da-da, podcasts.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_02: And I said, well, listen, one of the key things that anybody can do right now, doesn't matter what your level of um being on camera is, start looking up affiliate programs.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_02: Amazon Associate is one of the easiest ones.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_02: Three verified purchases in 180 days last I checked.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_02: How many things do we have in our house that we bought?
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_02: We bought from Amazon.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_02: How many things are in a house is sold on Amazon?
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_02: I just gave you the biggest thing that you could do right now.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_02: You don't even have to show your face.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_02: Some of y'all ladies, y'all already wearing makeup.
- 1:09:12unknown: Right.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_04: Talk about it.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_02: Create those affiliate links.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_02: Reach out to these companies.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_02: If you really, if you're really serious, and this is to help with the fear of anything.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_02: I'm just gonna say just fear in general.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_02: Go to whoever it is that you want to partner with, um, or whoever product you use, go all the way down to the bottom of their homepage.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_02: Most of them have something that says affiliate program.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_02: Some of these you can make 2%, 4%, 10%, 15%, 20% commission.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_02: Get on there, sign up, and then link whatever needs to be linked.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_02: Amazon Associate, get out there.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_02: If you're scared, start there.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_02: Start there.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_02: You know, you can work on your photography skills because you can upload pictures, your videography skills.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_02: If you want to be um someone that does product photos, product video, it's a great start.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_02: Start with what you have in your house.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_02: You ain't gotta worry about being embarrassed because ain't nobody gonna know until you tell them.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_02: You know, and as far as filling, I mean, it's on Amazon.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_05: Those are those are the things that we do need to incorporate because when you when you've been in a business for a while, you need stuff to do that's not a heavy lift.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_05: You know, yes, we lift enough.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_02: And I have so many, I'm a part of so many affiliate programs.
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_02: I had to sit and think about it yesterday.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_02: DJI.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_02: I'm an affiliate for DJI, um, Amazon Associate, uh, Tilta, uh the Empower Podcasting Conference.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_02: We are an affiliate of theirs.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_02: Um, there's at least one or two other people.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_06: We'll have to talk afterwards about that.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_06: Mm-hmm.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_02: So, imposter syndrome.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_02: We know what it is.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_02: We've heard how to get over it, but at the end of the day, it is still a mental issue.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_02: When you let go of what everybody else is going to say, or what you think everybody else is going to say, the door is open.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_02: I mean, I wouldn't be sitting here if I was worried about what everybody was going to say.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_02: Again, my vocabulary, the way I talk.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_05: Sometimes family.
- 1:11:58SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 1:11:59SPEAKER_02: And stop telling everybody everything.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_02: This is another thing.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_02: When you are getting ready to create, nine times out of ten, your family is not your target audience anyway.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_02: So don't allow them to follow and subscribe to all your pages because they're not going to watch.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_02: That hurts the algorithm.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_02: That hurts your watch time.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_02: So I've got 118 subscribers right on YouTube.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_02: But I get a strong 30 to 40 people that are actually watching.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_02: I can't tell who's following because you know you don't have to uh say that you're following somebody or subscribe, but I'm still getting the same amount of healthy people.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_02: Now, what can I do with that?
- 1:12:47SPEAKER_02: What can I do with these strong 40?
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_02: What can I do with that?
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_02: When I do product reviews, those videos, they just go.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_02: When I do PC builds, they go.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_02: But that goes into me saying all these different things that I do, and I need to bring it back down because I don't want my channel to be a gaming, a PC building channel.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_02: I don't want my channel to be a product review channel.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_02: You know, but if that's what somebody's looking for, do it.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_02: There's a lady.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_05: Data has spoken.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_02: There's a lady who just talks about, I'm gonna call it floor living.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_02: That's not what she used, but it's like floor futons, uh, floor desk.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_02: She ended up getting some kind of uh sponsor partnership with a a creator that um a company that creates desk that can go from the floor to standing.
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_05: Oh, okay.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_02: And within one of her months, she made 12K.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_02: I don't think she's worried about what y'all think about what she says or how she looks or how she lives.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_05: Make you want to sit on the floor, don't you?
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_02: Listen, right now, listen.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_02: So we have so many examples of what um imposter syndrome.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_02: Well, getting over imposter syndrome can look like.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_02: We have so many examples.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 1:14:21SPEAKER_05: You know, I um I wanted to say at some point, have you heard of the saying uh or the question, where's the richest place on earth?
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_05: Where's the richest place on earth?
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_05: The graveyard.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_05: The graveyard.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_05: The graveyard.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_05: All of those dreams never fulfill, pursue.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_05: The richest place on earth is the graveyard.
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_05: And we don't know how much time we have.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_02: We don't.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_05: We think we got so much time.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_02: I do it next year.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_02: Don't write down any ideas.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_02: What?
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_02: Don't leave any blueprints.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_02: We don't do any of that.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_05: We don't know how life might change in in many ways.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_05: Not even just, you know, how much time we have on the earth.
- 1:15:07SPEAKER_05: You know, we don't know.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_02: We don't.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_02: Set personal goals.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_02: One of the with all of this, what is the fear and why is it there?
- 1:15:23SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:15:23SPEAKER_05: You know, that's actually a strategy to say what you're afraid of out loud.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_05: Like asking myself, what am I afraid of?
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_05: Why haven't I done this?
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_05: I'm afraid of being embarrassed.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_05: I'm afraid of them saying I've fallen off.
- 1:15:41SPEAKER_05: I'm a whatever.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_05: Say it out loud.
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_05: Then you'd be like, okay, let me just go on ahead and do it.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_05: Because you hear how ridiculous it sounds.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, my biggest fear is not succeeding, right?
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_02: But then I had to stop and ask myself, who what am I measuring this level of success?
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_02: I have a wife and three kids.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_02: We have a nice, beautiful house.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_02: When I look at some people, that is very successful.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_02: Yes, it is.
- 1:16:15unknown: Yes.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_02: From what was opposed to on me during high school, and I even heard somebody say this after we graduated.
- 1:16:22SPEAKER_02: I just knew you would have had about three kids by now.
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_02: By different women.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_06: Ooh, wait a second.
- 1:16:31SPEAKER_02: Now I'm not throwing shots at anybody that has that situation, but yeah, no, but to what?
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_02: Right out of high school.
- 1:16:41SPEAKER_05: And it's like that was very judgmental.
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_02: Very.
- 1:16:44SPEAKER_02: Now I know my my lifestyle back then was a little crazy.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_05: But okay.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_02: Oh, you still ain't got no kids.
- 1:16:51SPEAKER_02: Let's do you had three kids, three babies with three baby mamas.
- 1:16:54SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 1:16:55SPEAKER_05: And it's like thanks for the belief.
- 1:16:57SPEAKER_02: And then some of these people.
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_02: Some of these people.
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_02: Y'all still not married with multiple baby daddies.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_02: Yes, I went because.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_05: Oh.
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_02: It's one of those.
- 1:17:12SPEAKER_02: How dare you?
- 1:17:13SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_05: How?
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_02: You were being very judgmental.
- 1:17:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_02: They ended up in the same space you told people I was gonna end up in.
- 1:17:22SPEAKER_05: And that's something.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_02: Misunderstood.
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_05: And that's something.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_02: Very.
- 1:17:28SPEAKER_05: The grave you bake for me.
- 1:17:30SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_02: So listen.
- 1:17:34SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:17:36SPEAKER_02: Cause and that has always been one of my biggest things.
- 1:17:40SPEAKER_02: And I'll another thing for me too.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_02: I was so busy focusing on um, how am I gonna word this?
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_02: I was focusing more on I'm gonna show them.
- 1:17:56SPEAKER_05: Ah, okay.
- 1:17:58unknown: Okay.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_02: Compared to let me just do it because I want to.
- 1:18:03SPEAKER_05: Which, you know, that can be good, but I also understand you want the you want the why to be pure.
- 1:18:10SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:18:11SPEAKER_05: The drive to be about you, not based on what people are external factors.
- 1:18:16SPEAKER_02: I didn't want anything to grow from a bad seed.
- 1:18:19SPEAKER_05: Oh, okay.
- 1:18:21SPEAKER_05: But I I can see how also that may have helped a lot of people.
- 1:18:25unknown: Yeah.
- 1:18:26SPEAKER_05: To be able to take on that negative energy people were saying and doing and to making it positive.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_05: But at some point, we all gotta grow up and mature and say it's about me, not them.
- 1:18:40SPEAKER_02: But that was the thing.
- 1:18:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:18:41SPEAKER_02: It was about them, not me.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_02: So I can't say I'm gonna show them and I'm doing certain things.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I hope they see that, compared to all right, well, you know, if that's how you feel, just give me a minute.
- 1:18:58SPEAKER_02: And then I do things.
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_02: Like I've had people come here, wow, that's fine, or see, you know, the whole creative roots, and they're like, you you doing it.
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:19:10SPEAKER_02: You know, but for me sitting here, it's like this is this has always been me, you know, just talking.
- 1:19:19SPEAKER_02: This is me.
- 1:19:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know.
- 1:19:22SPEAKER_02: Then I had a stretch of I can't do that.
- 1:19:28SPEAKER_02: I can't do that.
- 1:19:30SPEAKER_02: That doesn't line up with me and my core values and oh yeah, my beliefs.
- 1:19:38SPEAKER_05: But you know, that's the benefit of coming from humble beginnings.
- 1:19:42SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:19:43SPEAKER_05: Every dollar will not lure.
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_02: Mm-mm.
- 1:19:48SPEAKER_02: That's the every dollar got a name coming out of my pocket.
- 1:19:53SPEAKER_05: Keep your integrity intact.
- 1:19:56SPEAKER_05: Keep your integrity intact.
- 1:19:59SPEAKER_05: I have had to walk away from some contracts and like, mm, what am I gonna do financially and figure out the gaps, especially when I first started, but it helped have it coming from humble beginnings.
- 1:20:12SPEAKER_05: I'm like, no, I'm not gonna be a part of what y'all are doing.
- 1:20:15SPEAKER_05: I'm not doing it.
- 1:20:16SPEAKER_02: I don't want a parcel that it don't sound right, it don't feel right.
- 1:20:19SPEAKER_05: No, no, I am an advocate of mental health, I am a mental health provider, but mental health streets can be wild out there in terms of getting out, and I don't want to be a part of it.
- 1:20:36SPEAKER_05: So protect your integrity.
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:20:40SPEAKER_02: So Tasha, what do you see is the outside of fear?
- 1:20:50SPEAKER_02: What do you see is like one of the next biggest things when it comes to imposter syndrome?
- 1:20:58SPEAKER_02: I knew you wasn't.
- 1:21:00SPEAKER_05: I'm not ready for this, but I'm I'm gonna thank on this.
- 1:21:05SPEAKER_05: It's gotta be pride.
- 1:21:08SPEAKER_05: It's gotta be pride.
- 1:21:10SPEAKER_02: I can agree.
- 1:21:12SPEAKER_05: I don't wanna start over.
- 1:21:13SPEAKER_05: I don't wanna ask for help.
- 1:21:16SPEAKER_05: I don't wanna look crazy.
- 1:21:18SPEAKER_05: We talked about embarrassment.
- 1:21:20SPEAKER_05: It's it's pride, fear and pride.
- 1:21:24SPEAKER_02: Right now, yeah.
- 1:21:25SPEAKER_05: I recently saw um man, this is hard to watch.
- 1:21:31SPEAKER_05: But one of one business owner that I know that had built this million-dollar business thriving, but y'all know the economy has been tough.
- 1:21:41SPEAKER_05: Tariffs, uh, supplies have begun, the cost has come up.
- 1:21:46SPEAKER_05: And they, I seen a few different businesses, black-owned businesses, million-dollar status.
- 1:21:53SPEAKER_05: They had to admit we might have to close our doors if we don't, you know, get enough support.
- 1:21:59SPEAKER_05: They had to start doing campaigns about how bad it had gotten.
- 1:22:03SPEAKER_05: And one of them mentioned, you know, I didn't want to say anything.
- 1:22:06SPEAKER_05: People are coming to me for advice because I built it to this place.
- 1:22:10SPEAKER_05: Thank God they're saying, look, I need some help too, but our pride.
- 1:22:17SPEAKER_05: Pride comes before the fall.
- 1:22:19SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 1:22:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you gotta let pride go.
- 1:22:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:22:23SPEAKER_02: Pride is thick.
- 1:22:26SPEAKER_05: It is.
- 1:22:27SPEAKER_05: That's a it is.
- 1:22:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's some thick five letters.
- 1:22:32SPEAKER_05: Uh-oh.
- 1:22:33SPEAKER_05: And a lot of us want to settle for looking like we have it together.
- 1:22:39SPEAKER_05: Than having the humble pie and opening up to people and who who do have the expertise to say, I need some help.
- 1:22:48SPEAKER_05: I'm struggling.
- 1:22:50SPEAKER_05: This is Charlotte.
- 1:22:54SPEAKER_02: That says a lot in itself.
- 1:22:57SPEAKER_05: There's a certain culture that is forming here, and it is sometimes giving the appearance of, and we have to break through that pride when we're struggling, or we can really go down a spiral.
- 1:23:10SPEAKER_05: And we don't have to do it alone.
- 1:23:11SPEAKER_05: We shouldn't.
- 1:23:12SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:23:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:23:14SPEAKER_02: Everybody should have at least one person that they can contact about anything without judgment, without misunderstanding, without, bro, you'll be all right, you know.
- 1:23:29SPEAKER_05: Oh my gosh.
- 1:23:30SPEAKER_05: And you should not be sharp.
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_05: You should not be the sharpest person in your group.
- 1:23:35SPEAKER_02: Mm-mm.
- 1:23:37SPEAKER_05: Because when you need something, where are you gonna know?
- 1:23:41SPEAKER_02: Iron Sharpener.
- 1:23:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:23:43SPEAKER_05: I I have to be honest, there were different times of business ownership.
- 1:23:48SPEAKER_05: I had to definitely ask for help.
- 1:23:49SPEAKER_05: First starting out, okay, what in the world am I supposed to be doing?
- 1:23:52SPEAKER_05: Because I built it, but they didn't come.
- 1:23:54SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:23:55SPEAKER_02: That part.
- 1:23:56SPEAKER_05: And then when it was going well, okay, it's going well, but insurance is acting crazy.
- 1:24:01SPEAKER_05: Like, what do I need to do?
- 1:24:03SPEAKER_05: And now I'm pivoting into going back into speaking.
- 1:24:07SPEAKER_05: It never stops.
- 1:24:08SPEAKER_05: It never stops.
- 1:24:10SPEAKER_05: Pride, pride can ruin it all.
- 1:24:12SPEAKER_02: I got this.
- 1:24:14SPEAKER_02: I don't need no help.
- 1:24:16SPEAKER_02: Because ain't nobody gonna say they helped me make it.
- 1:24:20SPEAKER_06: Well, guess what?
- 1:24:22SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 1:24:23SPEAKER_02: Somebody's still gonna say that.
- 1:24:25SPEAKER_02: And they're gonna be running around taking credit.
- 1:24:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:24:28SPEAKER_02: And no matter what you say, they got the receipts.
- 1:24:32SPEAKER_05: Oh, and you gotta take care of your old wounds that's making you think everybody's gonna put it up against you and say, I did that for you, and now you owe me.
- 1:24:42SPEAKER_05: Everybody's not like that.
- 1:24:43SPEAKER_02: Not everybody.
- 1:24:44SPEAKER_05: No.
- 1:24:46SPEAKER_02: Loyalty is something that is shown, not spoken.
- 1:24:52SPEAKER_02: Loyalty, you don't say.
- 1:24:55SPEAKER_02: I'm loyal.
- 1:24:57SPEAKER_02: I'm loyal to you.
- 1:24:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:24:58SPEAKER_02: And I've told people the day you tell me that is the day I gotta let you go.
- 1:25:03SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 1:25:04SPEAKER_02: Because if you have to tell me that, you you really not.
- 1:25:09SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 1:25:10SPEAKER_02: You really not.
- 1:25:12SPEAKER_02: On any means.
- 1:25:14SPEAKER_02: For you to say it?
- 1:25:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:25:16SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:25:17SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 1:25:18SPEAKER_02: Again, loyalty is.
- 1:25:19SPEAKER_04: Because I know you read people well.
- 1:25:23SPEAKER_02: Listen, I can smell your stink from down the hall.
- 1:25:27SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:25:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:25:29SPEAKER_02: I can smell your stink from way.
- 1:25:31SPEAKER_02: I can smell your stinking in another city, okay?
- 1:25:35SPEAKER_02: Because again, I've been through so much and I've been on both sides of the track.
- 1:25:39SPEAKER_02: So I know a little bit more than most people.
- 1:25:43unknown: Yeah.
- 1:25:44SPEAKER_02: I listen to your words.
- 1:25:46SPEAKER_02: I listen to your tone.
- 1:25:47SPEAKER_02: I can tell if you've been working on the way you speak compared to if you just speak naturally.
- 1:25:56SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:25:57SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:25:57SPEAKER_02: And if you have to tell me that, we're going to go back and we're going to see how loyal you were.
- 1:26:05SPEAKER_05: Nice.
- 1:26:05SPEAKER_02: And nine times out of ten, you the person that's always asking for money.
- 1:26:08SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 1:26:09SPEAKER_02: You always the one that's asking for a handout.
- 1:26:11SPEAKER_02: You always want to tag along when something big is going on.
- 1:26:14SPEAKER_02: That's not loyalty.
- 1:26:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's not loyalty.
- 1:26:19SPEAKER_02: Loyalty to me is if I'm down bad, you recognize it.
- 1:26:24SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 1:26:24SPEAKER_02: You do something to help, and I ain't even ask.
- 1:26:28SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 1:26:29SPEAKER_02: That's a friend.
- 1:26:30SPEAKER_02: That's a brother.
- 1:26:32SPEAKER_02: That's a sister.
- 1:26:33SPEAKER_02: You know.
- 1:26:34SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 1:26:35SPEAKER_02: When I sense something is wrong with one of my sisters, I would text them just saying I love you.
- 1:26:40SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:26:40SPEAKER_02: And it's like, see, I hate when you do that because I know you know when something is wrong with me.
- 1:26:47SPEAKER_02: Because I know.
- 1:26:49SPEAKER_05: You know, that's tremendous.
- 1:26:51SPEAKER_05: Do we take for granted the people that we do come to know, the other creatives that we do come to know, the other business owners.
- 1:27:02SPEAKER_05: Some of the isolation we go through is because we stop reaching out.
- 1:27:09SPEAKER_05: That's that's that's wonderful.
- 1:27:12SPEAKER_02: There are some people in everybody's life that when they stop reaching out, call them.
- 1:27:20SPEAKER_06: That's true.
- 1:27:22SPEAKER_02: Text them.
- 1:27:23SPEAKER_06: That's true.
- 1:27:24SPEAKER_02: You have to say something.
- 1:27:26SPEAKER_02: Like I I would tell people, if you have not heard from me in two to three days, check on your boy.
- 1:27:31SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:27:32SPEAKER_02: Because there's no telling what happened.
- 1:27:34SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 1:27:35SPEAKER_02: Especially if we talk every day, every other day.
- 1:27:38SPEAKER_02: If we talk once or twice a week, check on me.
- 1:27:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah, check on your strong friend.
- 1:27:44SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:27:46SPEAKER_02: I am the strong friend.
- 1:27:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:27:48SPEAKER_02: You know, and and I was talking to somebody, and I'm like, it's rare I get checked on.
- 1:27:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:27:55SPEAKER_02: I have to be nothing on social media.
- 1:27:58SPEAKER_02: I haven't posted anything.
- 1:28:00SPEAKER_02: Haven't called or having texts.
- 1:28:02SPEAKER_02: You haven't heard from me in three to four days.
- 1:28:06SPEAKER_02: Some people I do get that call.
- 1:28:07SPEAKER_02: Hey.
- 1:28:08SPEAKER_05: Oh, that's good.
- 1:28:09SPEAKER_05: You good?
- 1:28:10SPEAKER_05: That's good.
- 1:28:11SPEAKER_02: But most people?
- 1:28:12SPEAKER_05: No.
- 1:28:13SPEAKER_02: Nothing.
- 1:28:14SPEAKER_05: Tell me if I'm wrong, because I could be.
- 1:28:17SPEAKER_02: Probably not, but go ahead.
- 1:28:18SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 1:28:19SPEAKER_05: I get the impression most men don't have that.
- 1:28:24SPEAKER_02: Nah.
- 1:28:28SPEAKER_02: It's an evaluation piece.
- 1:28:32SPEAKER_02: Because talking with Maud from Active Dad, there's a group of men that did not have that.
- 1:28:40SPEAKER_02: But now they do.
- 1:28:42SPEAKER_05: Wow, nice.
- 1:28:43SPEAKER_02: I was talking to somebody earlier today, and it's like, I feel like I'm not where I'm supposed to be.
- 1:28:49SPEAKER_02: I'm going through all these things, right?
- 1:28:51SPEAKER_02: And it's like, so outside of work, what does your community look like?
- 1:28:56SPEAKER_02: And I had to sit in that.
- 1:28:59SPEAKER_06: And I'm like, Yeah, that's real.
- 1:29:06SPEAKER_06: That's real.
- 1:29:07SPEAKER_02: I had to sit in that.
- 1:29:10SPEAKER_02: No, I do have people.
- 1:29:14SPEAKER_02: But you can't call everybody for everything.
- 1:29:19SPEAKER_02: So that's a lie.
- 1:29:26SPEAKER_02: Imposter syndrome.
- 1:29:28SPEAKER_02: And the fear.
- 1:29:30SPEAKER_02: And then the pride.
- 1:29:32SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:29:35SPEAKER_02: And then the mental aspect.
- 1:29:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we it's a lot.
- 1:29:45SPEAKER_05: It is.
- 1:29:45SPEAKER_05: I'm glad that you mentioned like people in your life doing an evaluation of that.
- 1:29:51SPEAKER_05: Because having people in our life is like it helps with resilience with mental, with our mental.
- 1:29:59SPEAKER_05: It helps.
- 1:30:00SPEAKER_05: It helps with resilience with our businesses.
- 1:30:03SPEAKER_05: With our cre, you know, being our creative selves.
- 1:30:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:30:07SPEAKER_05: It certainly does.
- 1:30:08SPEAKER_02: Because there have been times I'm like, that's not our client.
- 1:30:11SPEAKER_05: Nice.
- 1:30:13SPEAKER_05: Nice.
- 1:30:13SPEAKER_02: There have been times we had to fire the client.
- 1:30:15SPEAKER_05: Yeah, of course.
- 1:30:16unknown: Yes.
- 1:30:17unknown: Yes.
- 1:30:18SPEAKER_02: You're not getting ready to run me raggedy.
- 1:30:20SPEAKER_02: You are not the only person.
- 1:30:22SPEAKER_02: You ain't.
- 1:30:23SPEAKER_02: Not you aren't, but you ain't.
- 1:30:27SPEAKER_02: You ain't.
- 1:30:27SPEAKER_05: Everybody's not your client.
- 1:30:29SPEAKER_02: Everybody's not your client.
- 1:30:31SPEAKER_02: Everybody's not your friend.
- 1:30:33SPEAKER_02: Just because we are born into the same family does not mean we family.
- 1:30:37SPEAKER_02: That is.
- 1:30:38SPEAKER_02: When it comes to certain things.
- 1:30:39SPEAKER_02: There are I feel your imposter syndrome is engulfed in, like you said, your life.
- 1:30:49SPEAKER_02: What have you been through?
- 1:30:51SPEAKER_02: What have you dealt with to get to this point of saying, no, not me?
- 1:30:57SPEAKER_02: And what are you gonna do to break that?
- 1:31:00SPEAKER_02: Imposter syndrome, by far, from experience, is one of the easiest things to break because it is all mental.
- 1:31:10SPEAKER_02: It is you ain't said nothing to nobody.
- 1:31:15SPEAKER_02: But when you start talking, hey, if I started a YouTube channel, would you watch it?
- 1:31:20SPEAKER_02: Nope, then that's not your target audience.
- 1:31:22SPEAKER_02: But you can't take that no and use that as why you shouldn't.
- 1:31:27SPEAKER_02: I'm doing a lot of talking today, and I feel like I'm preaching.
- 1:31:30SPEAKER_02: See, this is what happens when we record on Sundays.
- 1:31:33SPEAKER_04: That's so funny.
- 1:31:34SPEAKER_02: Okay, and I don't be trying to go there.
- 1:31:38SPEAKER_05: Hey.
- 1:31:39SPEAKER_05: Get the people with the knee.
- 1:31:40SPEAKER_05: Get up with me.
- 1:31:41SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 1:31:43SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:31:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:31:45SPEAKER_05: There's a lot.
- 1:31:46SPEAKER_05: It really is.
- 1:31:47SPEAKER_05: It really is.
- 1:31:49SPEAKER_05: Especially if we're building these brands and building these businesses.
- 1:31:56SPEAKER_05: You don't want to look like what you're going through.
- 1:32:00SPEAKER_05: But that might mean you might hide the fact that you need, you know, people don't even want to need nobody.
- 1:32:06SPEAKER_05: I think you were just mentioning this.
- 1:32:09SPEAKER_05: But even if you're not struggling in your business, like we benefit from connection.
- 1:32:13SPEAKER_05: And hey, what are your strengths?
- 1:32:15SPEAKER_05: What are you up to?
- 1:32:16SPEAKER_05: This, these are my strengths.
- 1:32:18SPEAKER_05: This is what I'm up to.
- 1:32:19SPEAKER_05: Like, even sitting here today, I'm like, you know what?
- 1:32:21SPEAKER_05: I need to talk to him about that Amazon.
- 1:32:24SPEAKER_05: Connecting that into business.
- 1:32:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:32:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:32:27SPEAKER_02: And again, I have no problem including anybody.
- 1:32:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:32:31SPEAKER_02: Something I've heard a few pastors say, include everybody.
- 1:32:36SPEAKER_02: Let them exclude themselves.
- 1:32:38SPEAKER_06: Oh.
- 1:32:39SPEAKER_02: And when you get off that train, when you get off the bus.
- 1:32:44SPEAKER_05: Wait, what does that mean?
- 1:32:46SPEAKER_05: Because that's so profound.
- 1:32:48SPEAKER_05: I love that.
- 1:32:49SPEAKER_05: I want you to sit a little more.
- 1:32:51SPEAKER_02: So, you know, I was telling you about the series that I want to do, right?
- 1:32:57SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 1:32:57SPEAKER_02: I'm reaching out to certain people.
- 1:33:00SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:33:00SPEAKER_02: But I know in the midst of everything, I'm going to get messages like, hey, put me on.
- 1:33:07SPEAKER_02: Hey, let me be a part.
- 1:33:09SPEAKER_02: Okay, cool.
- 1:33:09SPEAKER_02: Come on.
- 1:33:10SPEAKER_02: We're going to record on this day.
- 1:33:12SPEAKER_02: All it takes is once.
- 1:33:13SPEAKER_02: Man, I ain't even going to be able to make it on that day.
- 1:33:16SPEAKER_02: You don't want to be a part.
- 1:33:17SPEAKER_02: So guess what?
- 1:33:18SPEAKER_02: You excluded yourself.
- 1:33:19SPEAKER_02: You don't have to worry about me contacting you to continue to include you.
- 1:33:24SPEAKER_04: You know, and give me that cheese.
- 1:33:26SPEAKER_05: I'm just messing.
- 1:33:27SPEAKER_02: My time is very valuable.
- 1:33:29SPEAKER_06: It is.
- 1:33:30SPEAKER_02: Our time.
- 1:33:31SPEAKER_06: It is.
- 1:33:32SPEAKER_06: It's very valuable.
- 1:33:33SPEAKER_06: It is.
- 1:33:34SPEAKER_02: Especially as a creator, a business owner.
- 1:33:38SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:33:38SPEAKER_02: You know, a husband, a wife, you know, mother, father, a parent.
- 1:33:43SPEAKER_06: All of them.
- 1:33:43SPEAKER_02: You have a select time every day.
- 1:33:47SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:33:48SPEAKER_02: That you can do certain things.
- 1:33:50SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 1:33:51SPEAKER_02: We all get the same 24 hours.
- 1:33:53SPEAKER_02: You're not about to waste mine.
- 1:33:55SPEAKER_06: Listen.
- 1:33:56SPEAKER_02: Depending on who you are, I might give you a second.
- 1:33:59SPEAKER_05: Maybe.
- 1:34:00SPEAKER_02: And that's a strong.
- 1:34:02SPEAKER_02: That's a strong maybe.
- 1:34:05SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:34:05SPEAKER_05: You know, there's a saying, there's a saying, hire slowly.
- 1:34:11SPEAKER_05: Fire quickly.
- 1:34:14SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:34:15SPEAKER_02: I agree.
- 1:34:18SPEAKER_02: Oh, I agree.
- 1:34:20SPEAKER_02: When I say I agree, it's all caps underlined three times with three exclamation points at the end.
- 1:34:30SPEAKER_02: You okay?
- 1:34:34SPEAKER_02: So what can you do?
- 1:34:35SPEAKER_02: What are your attributes?
- 1:34:36SPEAKER_02: How can we help each other?
- 1:34:37SPEAKER_02: Okay, let's grow.
- 1:34:38SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:34:39SPEAKER_02: But again, for me, there's a three-strike rule, right?
- 1:34:45SPEAKER_02: I'm giving you one and a half.
- 1:34:48SPEAKER_02: I'm giving you one and a half.
- 1:34:50SPEAKER_02: That it because that's all I can spare.
- 1:34:53SPEAKER_05: That's it.
- 1:34:54SPEAKER_02: And I've told people when I write you off, you're written off.
- 1:34:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:34:58SPEAKER_02: Therapy has taught me can you change the situation or the outcome?
- 1:35:06SPEAKER_02: Yes or no?
- 1:35:08SPEAKER_02: If the answer is yes, grow up and fix it.
- 1:35:13SPEAKER_05: Nice.
- 1:35:13SPEAKER_02: But if the answer is no, wash your hands with it and keep it moving.
- 1:35:17SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah.
- 1:35:18SPEAKER_02: I can't allow you to stay here.
- 1:35:22SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 1:35:23SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 1:35:24SPEAKER_02: Because my thoughts about you, the way I feel about you, what you did, that's keeping me from continuing and pursuing what needs to be done.
- 1:35:32SPEAKER_02: So because you don't want to do it, it's like they say, um, if you don't do it, if you don't do what God told you to do, he got somebody else.
- 1:35:40SPEAKER_05: Of course.
- 1:35:41SPEAKER_05: Of course.
- 1:35:42SPEAKER_02: And that's how I move.
- 1:35:43SPEAKER_02: If you can't do what I'm asking you to do, guess what?
- 1:35:46SPEAKER_02: On to the next one.
- 1:35:47SPEAKER_05: Let me add, because some folks struggle with guilt, you know.
- 1:35:52SPEAKER_02: They do what with guilt?
- 1:35:54SPEAKER_05: Struggle with guilt.
- 1:35:55SPEAKER_05: Now you have more resolve.
- 1:35:56SPEAKER_05: Like, okay, you screwing up.
- 1:35:58SPEAKER_05: I gotta snip this in the butt immediately.
- 1:36:01SPEAKER_05: But I would, I would urge people to learn to live with the guilt.
- 1:36:05SPEAKER_05: Just don't let it take the wheel.
- 1:36:07SPEAKER_05: Like you do what you need to do.
- 1:36:09SPEAKER_05: Over time, you'll do better with it.
- 1:36:11SPEAKER_05: But just live with the guilt.
- 1:36:14SPEAKER_05: Because you can't let people derail you.
- 1:36:16SPEAKER_05: And they might give that guilt trip of you forgetting where you come from and all that stuff.
- 1:36:21SPEAKER_05: But you gotta you gotta rise to the occasion, or we can't.
- 1:36:25SPEAKER_02: Don't let people hold you.
- 1:36:28SPEAKER_02: And there where their mental capacity is or lives.
- 1:36:36SPEAKER_02: You know, you hear the I wouldn't do that if I was you.
- 1:36:38SPEAKER_02: Well, that's the thing.
- 1:36:40SPEAKER_02: You're not me.
- 1:36:43SPEAKER_04: So that's too funny.
- 1:36:45SPEAKER_04: That's too funny.
- 1:36:46SPEAKER_04: It's it's great, it's helpful.
- 1:36:48SPEAKER_02: Don't let people limit you to their abilities.
- 1:36:52SPEAKER_02: You know, same thing with business.
- 1:36:54SPEAKER_02: Don't limit, you know, people, people paying you.
- 1:36:58SPEAKER_02: Don't count people wallets.
- 1:37:01SPEAKER_02: You know, you you close to being at zero and in the negative.
- 1:37:05SPEAKER_02: That don't mean a dad counting is.
- 1:37:07SPEAKER_02: You don't know who.
- 1:37:09SPEAKER_02: You don't know who who does what.
- 1:37:10SPEAKER_05: You're talking about pricing?
- 1:37:11SPEAKER_02: All of it.
- 1:37:12SPEAKER_05: Because you you're on to something.
- 1:37:15SPEAKER_05: Sometimes, sometimes we have the mindset, I don't want to beat anybody over the head with pricing.
- 1:37:22SPEAKER_05: Okay, but don't be lower than everybody else.
- 1:37:24SPEAKER_05: Like you gotta live, and everything is high.
- 1:37:28SPEAKER_02: Because sometimes you giving them that low price show that you don't value your work, so why would they?
- 1:37:34SPEAKER_02: That's so true.
- 1:37:36SPEAKER_02: I remember doing music videos for$300, and some people thought that was a lot.
- 1:37:41SPEAKER_02: Oh, really?
- 1:37:42SPEAKER_02: So then I said, well,$600.
- 1:37:45SPEAKER_02: Do you think that's a lot?
- 1:37:46SPEAKER_02: $600.
- 1:37:48SPEAKER_05: I like you about so then it's well, you went up.
- 1:37:53SPEAKER_05: I love it.
- 1:37:54SPEAKER_05: I love it.
- 1:37:54SPEAKER_05: I'm writing notes.
- 1:37:57SPEAKER_02: So then dang,$600 a lot.
- 1:38:00SPEAKER_05: Uh-huh.
- 1:38:01SPEAKER_02: But I got somebody willing to pay me a thousand.
- 1:38:03SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 1:38:04SPEAKER_02: So guess what?
- 1:38:05SPEAKER_02: I did.
- 1:38:06SPEAKER_02: Raise the price again.
- 1:38:07SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 1:38:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:38:08SPEAKER_02: So now, if you need me to shoot a music video, uh-huh.
- 1:38:13SPEAKER_02: Let me let me put this too.
- 1:38:15SPEAKER_02: Normally when I've done music videos, I get the song.
- 1:38:18SPEAKER_02: Hey, bruh, I want to do a music video and I want you to shoot it.
- 1:38:21SPEAKER_02: Okay, what's the concept?
- 1:38:22SPEAKER_02: What's the idea?
- 1:38:23SPEAKER_02: Oh no, I thought you were gonna hit me with that.
- 1:38:25SPEAKER_02: So now I have to come up, I have to listen to your song.
- 1:38:28SPEAKER_02: Now I have to determine if I even like the song.
- 1:38:31SPEAKER_02: Then I have to come up with the concept.
- 1:38:33SPEAKER_02: Now I'm coming up with the um, oh, I forgot what it's called, but I'm basically coming up with the script.
- 1:38:39SPEAKER_03: I'm coming up with the way uh the treatment.
- 1:38:42SPEAKER_02: I'm coming up with a treatment.
- 1:38:45SPEAKER_02: I hit you back and you say, okay, cool, and I don't hear from you.
- 1:38:51SPEAKER_02: So now, okay, if I gotta come up with that treatment, that's gonna be 250, 300, depending on how big I'm gonna have to think about this.
- 1:38:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:39:00SPEAKER_02: Then if I don't like the song, now you're gonna have to find somebody else.
- 1:39:03SPEAKER_02: Because I've grown, because I've known.
- 1:39:05SPEAKER_02: So when I tell people, if you need me for a whole day, regardless of what it is, my base is about 1200, depending on what you need.
- 1:39:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's a lot of money.
- 1:39:20SPEAKER_02: This is a lot of skill set.
- 1:39:22SPEAKER_05: It is, and those memory, is it memory chips?
- 1:39:25SPEAKER_02: All of it.
- 1:39:26SPEAKER_02: Look, everything it's expensive.
- 1:39:29SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:39:30SPEAKER_02: SD cards, memory cards, thank you.
- 1:39:34SPEAKER_05: Thank you, thank you.
- 1:39:35SPEAKER_02: You know, gas, because I don't live in Charlotte no more.
- 1:39:38SPEAKER_05: Ah, mm-hmm.
- 1:39:39SPEAKER_02: We we're talking, I don't want to say this out loud, but I'm gonna say it.
- 1:39:44SPEAKER_02: The lowest I will possibly go, depending on what it is and who you are, might be 900.
- 1:39:52SPEAKER_02: But everything after that, especially if you need me for more than four hours.
- 1:39:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:39:58SPEAKER_02: And then I need to know everything you need.
- 1:40:02SPEAKER_02: Don't say this is what I need.
- 1:40:04SPEAKER_02: Then you want me to edit it.
- 1:40:05SPEAKER_02: And then you turn around and say, Hey, I want the raw files too.
- 1:40:08SPEAKER_02: Ooh, because raw files ain't cheap coming for me.
- 1:40:11SPEAKER_02: You're asking me to sell you my intellectual property.
- 1:40:13SPEAKER_02: Yes, it's you on it, but it belongs to me.
- 1:40:18SPEAKER_02: We'll get into that later.
- 1:40:20SPEAKER_02: Later.
- 1:40:23SPEAKER_02: But know your worth.
- 1:40:26SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:40:27SPEAKER_02: Even in the midst of you figuring out how to get over imposter syndrome.
- 1:40:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:40:33SPEAKER_02: Figure why you're there.
- 1:40:34SPEAKER_05: There was something you said earlier, and I'm just glad we went landed right here.
- 1:40:38SPEAKER_05: You said, know what you bring.
- 1:40:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
