- 0:00Speaker 1: I've got two of the most impressive mullets I've seen
- 0:02Speaker 1: in a very long time. Sitting in the studio with
- 0:05Speaker 1: me now some of our wonderful Northern Territory firefighters. They're
- 0:11Speaker 1: raising money and awareness for mental health and they're doing
- 0:14Speaker 1: that by growing some really impressive mullets. Now joining me
- 0:17Speaker 1: in the studio right now is Keiley Stewart. Good morning
- 0:21Speaker 1: to you, Kihley, Good morning, And I've also got Phil
- 0:23Speaker 1: Child's Good morning to.
- 0:25Speaker 2: You, Pilm. I'm very well now, can.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I just say that both of you have got some
- 0:30Speaker 1: really good mullets.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Thank you, Keiley. Obviously you started.
- 0:38Speaker 1: With long hair anyway, but you've you've, you know, you've
- 0:41Speaker 1: certainly businessed it.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Up top and out the back is lots of fun.
- 0:47Speaker 1: How long has it taken for you to, you know,
- 0:49Speaker 1: to sort of to stylish in that way and get
- 0:51Speaker 1: it to that point.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Well, this is version three Rush, so it's taken a
- 0:56Speaker 3: few months. Yeah, and I still have version four to go.
- 1:00Speaker 3: That'll be the best one.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to. I'm very much looking forward to
- 1:05Speaker 2: saying that.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Now, Phil, yours looks like it's been freshly cash made.
- 1:08Speaker 4: The size up a little bit. Yeah, yeah, I've sort
- 1:10Speaker 4: of always grown on the verge of a mullet. Yeah, anyway,
- 1:13Speaker 4: But now we've got the go ahead.
- 1:14Speaker 2: To do this for a good cause.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Just let it loose now.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Absolutely, they look like fun, They look like a great time.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Now this has obviously got a really serious side to
- 1:24Speaker 1: it as well. You're raising money and awareness for mental health.
- 1:27Speaker 1: What sort of prompted you, you know to do this?
- 1:31Speaker 3: Oh well, personally, early on this year, I had a friend,
- 1:34Speaker 3: I lost a friend's suicide, and we've also lost a
- 1:38Speaker 3: few colleagues in the police force to suicide. To share,
- 1:44Speaker 3: those people were generally man, and I work with predominantly man,
- 1:48Speaker 3: so it kind of promoted prompts me to do something
- 1:51Speaker 3: about it. I just I don't want to think that
- 1:55Speaker 3: any of my work colleagues are male friends or anyone
- 1:58Speaker 3: would be wanting to suffering sailings. So we're kind of
- 2:01Speaker 3: doing it to raise awareness and hopefully encourage people to
- 2:05Speaker 3: speak up and realize that they're never on the own.
- 2:08Speaker 3: There's always someone that's going through similar things, so that
- 2:11Speaker 3: can help them.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Yeah, oh, good on you. I think that's a really
- 2:14Speaker 2: great thing to do.
- 2:14Speaker 1: And you know, so often when we go through a
- 2:16Speaker 1: really difficult time in our lives or you know, professionally
- 2:20Speaker 1: or personally, it can you know, like you can either
- 2:23Speaker 1: sort of do nothing or you can all band together
- 2:27Speaker 1: and help each other. And I reckon that's such a
- 2:29Speaker 1: nice way of doing it. Phil, You know, it's it's
- 2:33Speaker 1: a great thing to do, but it is a great cause,
- 2:35Speaker 1: is Nash.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Yeah, of course.
- 2:37Speaker 4: I think life is full of ups and downs for everybody. Yeah,
- 2:40Speaker 4: highs and lows, and I think if we can have
- 2:42Speaker 4: our low time and talk to our friends who may
- 2:44Speaker 4: be having to be a high time and help you
- 2:45Speaker 4: through those loads. I think it's more important than anything else.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it is.
- 2:48Speaker 1: It's really important and really important to make sure that
- 2:50Speaker 1: we do communicate with each other. But also, you know,
- 2:53Speaker 1: get rid of that stigma that's attached to mental health
- 2:55Speaker 1: as well. We need to talk about it more openly
- 2:58Speaker 1: and and you know, the more open we are, I
- 3:00Speaker 1: think the more you break down those barriers. So it
- 3:02Speaker 1: is a really important thing to do. And I would
- 3:05Speaker 1: imagine that you two and everybody else growing the mullets
- 3:08Speaker 1: have got lots of people asking you why.
- 3:11Speaker 2: So it's a good conversation starter, isn't it.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely.
- 3:14Speaker 1: How many of you fieries are growing mullets, eleven in total.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Who's got the most impressive one?
- 3:22Speaker 4: You can't call it a mullet, the scullet. One of
- 3:26Speaker 4: the boys, Josh.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Oh, he's growing a scarlet you can't.
- 3:30Speaker 4: Grow on top of his head. So he's just grown
- 3:31Speaker 4: the back.
- 3:32Speaker 2: And how's that going for him? Is it going very well?
- 3:35Speaker 4: You earn a hat a lot.
- 3:39Speaker 3: I would say he's looking forward to shaven old. But
- 3:41Speaker 3: it looks fantastic at the moment.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Sometimes, you know, when you attempt to grow a mullesh,
- 3:46Speaker 1: the back doesn't grow as fast as what you might
- 3:49Speaker 1: like if you're struggling to sort of grow it on
- 3:50Speaker 1: top as well. So the scullet sounds like an interesting,
- 3:54Speaker 1: interesting way to go. Yes, oh, I think it's. I
- 3:57Speaker 1: think it's so great what you guys are doing. And
- 3:59Speaker 1: it's so great, you know, I think too to see
- 4:02Speaker 1: you your team sort of join together to do it
- 4:05Speaker 1: for mental health. Now, I'm sure that there'll be people
- 4:08Speaker 1: listening this morning who are wondering, firstly, how they can
- 4:10Speaker 1: see all these mullets. Are they able to jump on
- 4:13Speaker 1: the Police Foreign Emergency Services Facebook page?
- 4:17Speaker 2: Is that the best way to see that?
- 4:18Speaker 3: Yes?
- 4:19Speaker 2: Definitely, so jump on there. They can see your mullets
- 4:23Speaker 2: and scullets. How can they donate if they're keen to donate.
- 4:26Speaker 3: That The details will be on that page, or you
- 4:29Speaker 3: can follow our page which is Anti FRS Mullets for
- 4:34Speaker 3: Mental Health.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Now, how much are you guys having to raise?
- 4:38Speaker 3: We've got a limit of five thousand at the moment
- 4:40Speaker 3: and we're just over four thousand, so you're getting close.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that is wonderful.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Has it become a bit competitive with you all in
- 4:48Speaker 1: terms of your mullet styles and who's got the best one?
- 4:53Speaker 4: I think yes.
- 4:56Speaker 3: We do have a competition in September, so in we'll
- 5:00Speaker 3: be posting pictures of the SAD mullets, yes, and we'll
- 5:03Speaker 3: be asking the public to vote for them. So I
- 5:06Speaker 3: think that's when the composition will start.
- 5:08Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to that. I'm very keen to see
- 5:10Speaker 2: all of the mullets.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Yes, well, I'm really grateful for you both coming in
- 5:16Speaker 1: here this morning for showing you mullets.
- 5:18Speaker 2: We'll have to get a photo over for you. Leave
- 5:21Speaker 2: to share the link.
- 5:22Speaker 1: But again, it is such an important thing to do.
- 5:25Speaker 1: I think it's such an important and worthy cause, So
- 5:27Speaker 1: well done to you guys, to all eleven of you
- 5:30Speaker 1: that are growing your mullets for a really good cause,
- 5:33Speaker 1: and plenty of local businesses as well have been really great,
- 5:36Speaker 1: really great in terms of supporting you guys, haven't they.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, in particular the people that are starting my
- 5:44Speaker 3: wallet sculpt.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Oh yes, I go there too.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Yeah, they've been very good. H We just did a
- 5:49Speaker 3: bit of filming with Ginger Pink as well as mining.
- 5:52Speaker 3: They're donating some of our proceeds to us for the
- 5:54Speaker 3: month of September.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Oh, how wonderful. Well, good on you guys.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Thank you so much for coming in and let us
- 6:01Speaker 1: know how it all progresses. And you can indeed follow
- 6:04Speaker 1: the mullet journey I reckon we'll call it on Facebook
- 6:08Speaker 1: and and get a closer look at all the mullets.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Thanks so much. Keely Stewart and Phil Childs. I really
- 6:14Speaker 2: appreciate you both coming in tonight. Thank you.
