- 4:03Speaker 7: added to the Maris sixty to two winner of the

- 4:08Speaker 7: They made a half game in front of the Ams

- 4:14Speaker 7: Wu goes against the Angel's best pitcher, Jose Soriano. World
- 4:18Speaker 7: Cup three wild knockout round matches yesterday. The first one
- 4:22Speaker 7: was Brazil at the end about face illumination in the
- 4:26Speaker 7: second half, and then they did this.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Bruno tema rice. Oh and here's a chance, buddadla presenta bunny.
- 4:33Speaker 4: They've stolen him right out of death. Prisila going through.

- 4:43Speaker 7: Cup games, bringing you that Japan was up one nil
- 4:46Speaker 7: in the second half in Brazil, rally late for two goals,
- 4:48Speaker 7: including that one in second half stoppage time, to advance
- 4:52Speaker 7: to the round of sixteen. Paraguay beat Germany. The Germans
- 4:56Speaker 7: are out. Paraguay beat him on penalty kicks. Paraguay's president
- 5:00Speaker 7: last night declared today a national holiday down there. So yeah,
- 5:03Speaker 7: they're partying really hard in Paraguay right now for beating
- 5:06Speaker 7: the mighty Germans knocking them out of the tournament. Last night,
- 5:09Speaker 7: Monterey Mexico inten fantastic Netherlands Morocco match, Morocco pressed to
- 5:14Speaker 7: win all night, the Dutch played not to lose, and
- 5:16Speaker 7: the soccer gods shined on the Moroccans and penalty kicks.
- 5:20Speaker 7: Morocco advances to play Cannon on July fourth, the first
- 5:23Speaker 7: time the Netherlands haven't advanced to at least the round
- 5:25Speaker 7: of sixteen in any World Cup. Today, Norway versus Ivory
- 5:28Speaker 7: Coas has already begun in Dallas this afternoon. France the
- 5:32Speaker 7: overwhelming favorite to win the tournament against Sweden in the
- 5:35Speaker 7: round of thirty two, and then tonight Mexico's tough Texanan
- 5:38Speaker 7: Ecuador in Mexico City. You heard yesterday Nico Moreno talking
- 5:41Speaker 7: about how the Mexicans are in for a big challenge
- 5:44Speaker 7: to night from Ecuador. Of course, tomorrow right here in Seattle,
- 5:47Speaker 7: Belgium and Senegal at Lumenfields at one o'clock start. I'll
- 5:50Speaker 7: be down at Jimmy's on first right across the street
- 5:52Speaker 7: with all the soccer color and pregame of that. And
- 5:55Speaker 7: then five o'clock tomorrow right here on ninety three point
- 5:57Speaker 7: three KJRFM US and Bosnia Herzgi in Santa.
- 6:01Speaker 4: Clara in the round of thirty two.
- 6:03Speaker 7: The winner of that match, the winner the Seattle match
- 6:05Speaker 7: play in Seattle in the round of sixteen on Monday
- 6:08Speaker 7: in the NBA, Lebron James's agent has told the Lakers
- 6:11Speaker 7: today he wants to play for someone else, not the agent,
- 6:14Speaker 7: the player.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Lebron James wan to play for someone else.
- 6:16Speaker 7: Free agency begins at three pm today in the NBA,
- 6:19Speaker 7: the Golden State Warriors are the most likely landing spot,
- 6:22Speaker 7: it appears, and the Warriors are trying to also get
- 6:24Speaker 7: Anthony Davis from the Lakers. According to reports, Memphis traded
- 6:27Speaker 7: former All Star guard Jean Morant to the Portland Trailblazers.
- 6:30Speaker 7: In the NFL, the Detroit Lions released starting cornerback Terry
- 6:34Speaker 7: on Austin.
- 6:34Speaker 4: We talked about him. He's in a Tampa jail.
- 6:37Speaker 7: He's got one million dollars bond on felony charges of
- 6:40Speaker 7: arm robbery and kidnapping.
- 6:41Speaker 4: He could be facing life in prison. Now on for
- 6:44Speaker 4: the Tuesday show.
- 6:45Speaker 7: Good morning, and it's a Tuesday, which means it's one
- 6:49Speaker 7: day before the World Cup comes back to Seattle and
- 6:51Speaker 7: it's going to be another crazy edning the knockout stages.
- 6:55Speaker 4: I've been fabulous. I don't I know. Just when you're
- 6:57Speaker 4: not a huge soccer.
- 6:58Speaker 12: Fan, Oh but I'm a World Cup fan. Yes, it
- 7:01Speaker 12: always draws me in I just get so into it.
- 7:04Speaker 12: I always end up picking a random team to follow.
- 7:08Speaker 12: Ghana was my one back in the day because I
- 7:11Speaker 12: wanted the Cinderella. So I always go for the cinderellas
- 7:14Speaker 12: I see USA. I was really into Ecuador. Yeah, and
- 7:19Speaker 12: so I don't know. I let the game choose me.
- 7:21Speaker 12: I let the team choose me when it's not something
- 7:24Speaker 12: that I have a team that I specific I mean
- 7:27Speaker 12: obviously have Team USA in this, but I always have
- 7:30Speaker 12: an outlier.
- 7:31Speaker 7: Was an outlier from yesterday obviously Paraguay. Yeah, beating the
- 7:34Speaker 7: mighty Germans in a penalty kick shootout. Love that controversy
- 7:38Speaker 7: with a var review waving off a German goal late
- 7:41Speaker 7: that could have won it before it even got the
- 7:43Speaker 7: extra time in penalty kicks.
- 7:45Speaker 4: I thought the keeper just took a dive and drew
- 7:47Speaker 4: the call.
- 7:48Speaker 7: He seemed to go down pretty easily, but yeah, the
- 7:50Speaker 7: German attacker did impede him. And if you go anywhere
- 7:54Speaker 7: and breathing on a keeper in international soccer, you're going
- 7:56Speaker 7: to get the foul call.
- 7:57Speaker 4: And that's what happened.
- 7:58Speaker 7: On the show today, we'll talk about the World Cup.
- 8:01Speaker 7: The United States, of course, playing tomorrow to try to
- 8:03Speaker 7: get to the round of sixteen, which they've only advanced
- 8:05Speaker 7: from one time. That round of sixteen match again would
- 8:08Speaker 7: be in Seattle. It will be in Seattle anyway. On Monday,
- 8:11Speaker 7: it'll be the United States. If the US can win
- 8:13Speaker 7: tomorrow against a big Bosnia team that they're still favorite
- 8:16Speaker 7: to beat in Santa Clara, we'll talk about George Kirby
- 8:19Speaker 7: and what he did last night. He just took those Mariners'
- 8:22Speaker 7: rules for how they use bullpens and just took it
- 8:24Speaker 7: into his own hands.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Fixed those for one night.
- 8:27Speaker 7: Anyway, Dan Wilson, maybe his bosses had a new batting
- 8:32Speaker 7: order last night. They moved Cal Rawley way down in
- 8:34Speaker 7: the order. We'll talk about that. The general manager of
- 8:37Speaker 7: the Mariners yesterday says there's quote a lunatic fringe among
- 8:42Speaker 7: Mariners fans. I'm not sure the wisdom of a Major
- 8:46Speaker 7: League baseball general manager talking about some of his fan
- 8:49Speaker 7: base being a lunatic fringe. You'll hear from Justin Older
- 8:51Speaker 7: saying that we'll talk at eleven o'clock speaking of that
- 8:55Speaker 7: to Jim Bowden, the former general manager in Major League
- 8:58Speaker 7: Baseball who's now an analyst for SIRI XMCBS Sports and
- 9:01Speaker 7: a columns for the Athletic. I'm gonna ask him what
- 9:04Speaker 7: do you think about a baseball general manager reading off
- 9:07Speaker 7: Twitter and exit calling of fans lunatic fringe. But the
- 9:10Speaker 7: reason Jessma went and I wanted him on, Jessman got
- 9:12Speaker 7: him to talk about the dynamics of a general manager,
- 9:16Speaker 7: A veteran general manager he was with a first time manager.
- 9:19Speaker 4: This is two managers in a row.
- 9:20Speaker 7: The Mariners have had managers with no previous dugout experience
- 9:24Speaker 7: leading a club. Scott's service the course first, and then
- 9:27Speaker 7: Jerry Depoto does the same thing and brings Dan Wilson in.
- 9:31Speaker 7: I'm going to ask Jim Boden about that, in the
- 9:33Speaker 7: dynamics of it, about analytics and baseball today and how
- 9:37Speaker 7: it's sometimes in the Mariner's case, all the time handcuffs
- 9:40Speaker 7: the manager in the dugout. We're gonna talk to Jim
- 9:42Speaker 7: Boden about that at eleven o'clock eleven thirty is we
- 9:44Speaker 7: do it every day. We'll lead back to your text
- 9:46Speaker 7: on the Komodadge text nine four nine four five one.
- 9:50Speaker 7: We can start off the show by asking you what
- 9:51Speaker 7: would you ask Jim Boden A veteran general manager, and
- 9:55Speaker 7: about the game today, about analytics, about first time manager,
- 9:58Speaker 7: about anything.
- 9:59Speaker 4: Maybe will you one of.
- 10:00Speaker 7: Your questions on the when we asked when talked to
- 10:03Speaker 7: Jim Bowden at eleven o'clock, George Kirby last night, he
- 10:09Speaker 7: was angry.
- 10:10Speaker 4: George, let him explain that I put you on.
- 10:13Speaker 13: Yeah, I was just trying to get real pissed off
- 10:15Speaker 13: at the end there, just kind of give it all, give.
- 10:17Speaker 4: It all I had.
- 10:18Speaker 13: And yeah, I mean I was just yeah to be
- 10:25Speaker 13: able to get the strike out there with a couple
- 10:27Speaker 13: of guys on base and.
- 10:30Speaker 14: He had just kind of shut it down.
- 10:31Speaker 7: It fell awesome.
- 10:32Speaker 13: And then and yeah, then getting you know, the high
- 10:35Speaker 13: five from the teammates, all that good stuff. So yeah,
- 10:38Speaker 13: I'm just happy we wanted Cole and those guys came
- 10:42Speaker 13: came out today and swung it.
- 10:43Speaker 10: So it was pretty sweet.
- 10:45Speaker 7: George Kirby must have all kinds of cachet in that clubhouse,
- 10:49Speaker 7: in that organization to get the one hundred pitches.
- 10:51Speaker 4: Jessman, Holy cow.
- 10:53Speaker 12: Well, I mean it's pretty telling too, just that that
- 10:57Speaker 12: is some trust. And I think he discussed that as well.
- 11:01Speaker 12: If we want to hear him what he actually got
- 11:05Speaker 12: called out for the eighth.
- 11:06Speaker 13: Yeah, they made a tunnel for me to go under,
- 11:08Speaker 13: so I ended that.
- 11:10Speaker 7: But yeah, it was cool.
- 11:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean.
- 11:15Speaker 13: Yeah, I'm just happy, you know, I was. I was
- 11:18Speaker 13: able to finish the job tonight. So I just went
- 11:20Speaker 13: in the tunnel and did my thing, and they just
- 11:24Speaker 13: went out for the eighth. So I'm glad, glad he
- 11:26Speaker 13: trusted me in that situation.
- 11:29Speaker 7: We mentioned it, and we brought it up somewhat jokingly
- 11:32Speaker 7: because of course, the day before in Cleveland, Emerson Hancock
- 11:34Speaker 7: ninety eight pitches, old, no, no, no, don't throw a
- 11:37Speaker 7: ninety ninth through armor.
- 11:39Speaker 15: That was immediately what I thought of.
- 11:41Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean that was if they kept Hancock into
- 11:44Speaker 7: one hundred or hundred and two pitches, he gets out
- 11:46Speaker 7: of the six with a four to one lead, then
- 11:48Speaker 7: you don't use Bizarto for one out because he can
- 11:51Speaker 7: then start the next inning. You have him for the
- 11:52Speaker 7: entire seventh, you inspire for the entire eighth, you have
- 11:55Speaker 7: Munas for the ninth, and the marriage would be in
- 11:56Speaker 7: first place today because they would have one more win
- 11:59Speaker 7: and one funeral holding under that lead in Cleveland Sunday,
- 12:03Speaker 7: so they can keep Kirby in for the magic one
- 12:06Speaker 7: hundred pitches.
- 12:07Speaker 4: That's my joking is that he must have some kind
- 12:10Speaker 4: of pool inside.
- 12:10Speaker 7: The organization to get to go past ninety eight that
- 12:13Speaker 7: Everson Hancock was not allowed to cross.
- 12:15Speaker 15: That's also Kirby.
- 12:17Speaker 12: Yeah, and you know there there was We have Dan
- 12:19Speaker 12: Wilson also talking about that decision, because it might not
- 12:22Speaker 12: just Ben Kirby, but Dan Wilson actually saw something in him.
- 12:27Speaker 14: We were kind of on the fence on what to
- 12:28Speaker 14: do there bullpen wise, but you know, I think he
- 12:31Speaker 14: got the second out at like ninety eight miles an
- 12:33Speaker 14: hour and still had a lot in the tank there,
- 12:35Speaker 14: and you know, I thought he was making pitches still
- 12:37Speaker 14: and and you know, getting pitches to the bottom of
- 12:40Speaker 14: the zone, getting the good you know, breaking balls down
- 12:42Speaker 14: below the zone where you want them, And you know,
- 12:45Speaker 14: I thought there was a a you know, it looked
- 12:47Speaker 14: like a determination in that that he wanted to finish
- 12:49Speaker 14: that inning and really did a nice job to shut
- 12:52Speaker 14: down that, you know what could have been a little
- 12:54Speaker 14: bit of a rally for them. But he was right
- 12:56Speaker 14: there to to you know, to put it out like
- 12:58Speaker 14: he'd done all night long, and he was, you know,
- 13:00Speaker 14: close to one hundred pitches, but he found something.
- 13:02Speaker 7: Extra Holy cow, do you mean Dan Wilson actually used
- 13:06Speaker 7: his eyes and what his heart and gut told him.
- 13:08Speaker 12: With George Kirby's listening to both of them, it sounds
- 13:11Speaker 12: like it was Dan Wilson's decision. Though, like you know,
- 13:14Speaker 12: we were talking about whose decision is it? In those situations,
- 13:17Speaker 12: that sounded like it was Dan's.
- 13:19Speaker 7: Well, but why then and not Emerson Hancock the day
- 13:22Speaker 7: before or everybody else for the entire season? When they
- 13:26Speaker 7: get to one hundred, it's like shut down city no
- 13:28Speaker 7: matter what they're doing. Or the stupid piggyback when they
- 13:31Speaker 7: go four innings and they take Pryce Miller out of
- 13:34Speaker 7: shutout at four innings, that that's frustrating. If you're selling
- 13:38Speaker 7: their staff, I would think, wait a minute, there's some inconsistency.
- 13:41Speaker 15: Said, yes, maybe it's the veteran status. You know Kirby's
- 13:45Speaker 15: been in all that time.
- 13:46Speaker 7: You should manage a team, and that's exactly what you
- 13:48Speaker 7: should go. Okay, he's throwing hard, he's getting outs. Who
- 13:51Speaker 7: cares if he's at ninety eight or ninety seven pitches,
- 13:54Speaker 7: Let him finish, let him do the eight. And you
- 13:56Speaker 7: heard Wilson say again, they were on the withought they
- 14:00Speaker 7: were going to do in the bullpen they had used
- 14:02Speaker 7: for they used for air in the ninth inning last night,
- 14:04Speaker 7: he had nineteen pitches. Of course he didn't pitch Sunday
- 14:07Speaker 7: because they have the rule that you can't pitch three
- 14:08Speaker 7: days in a row, even though it used to be
- 14:10Speaker 7: a closer for Washington Nationals last year. But that's concerning
- 14:14Speaker 7: that they were on the fence again. What if Kirby
- 14:16Speaker 7: gets hit around in the seventh inning and he doesn't
- 14:19Speaker 7: go eight, then you might have pote pirie again in
- 14:22Speaker 7: the bullpen. And my point is that's how you should
- 14:27Speaker 7: manage right started dealing shoving at ninety eight in the
- 14:30Speaker 7: eight day.
- 14:31Speaker 4: Let's keep him out there.
- 14:32Speaker 7: Yeah, there's no reason to arbitrarily take him out because
- 14:34Speaker 7: of some artificial pitch count number that you instilled on him.
- 14:37Speaker 12: Well, I know that he did say that they were
- 14:39Speaker 12: on the fence, but he also said he kind of
- 14:41Speaker 12: doubled down on what he saw in Kirby.
- 14:43Speaker 4: It shows you how much he cares and how much
- 14:46Speaker 4: he wants it.
- 14:46Speaker 14: And tonight was you know, I thought a great, a
- 14:49Speaker 14: great job on his part, you know, gave up a
- 14:52Speaker 14: couple early, but really settled in after that and kept
- 14:55Speaker 14: rolling and kept going, and you know, kept getting more
- 14:58Speaker 14: and more comfortable out there, and I was standing out.
- 15:01Speaker 7: In form I was last night Dan Wilson managing the
- 15:05Speaker 7: game and letting George Kirby pitch eight innings.
- 15:08Speaker 4: That solved their bullpen problem a one inning, four run lead.
- 15:12Speaker 7: That you don't have too many problems in your bullpen
- 15:14Speaker 7: when you only need to cover one inning with a
- 15:16Speaker 7: four run lead. And that's what the Mariners did last
- 15:18Speaker 7: night to beat. Now, the Angels are a joke. There
- 15:20Speaker 7: are fourteen games under five hundred in a division that
- 15:22Speaker 7: is just awful.
- 15:23Speaker 12: But they still had a close game early on. You know,
- 15:26Speaker 12: in the fourth it was only three to two, that's.
- 15:28Speaker 7: Right, and then a two run single bag cal Raley,
- 15:32Speaker 7: who we'll talk about in the next segment, is no
- 15:33Speaker 7: longer the number two hitter.
- 15:34Speaker 4: Let's see how long that stays.
- 15:36Speaker 12: All.
- 15:36Speaker 7: Let's talk about the general manager calling a fraction of
- 15:39Speaker 7: this fan base a lunatic fringe. This was justin Hollander
- 15:43Speaker 7: before the game yesterday.
- 15:44Speaker 16: I think it's fair for people to be frustrated by that.
- 15:48Speaker 16: I don't really think it's fair to take a training staff.
- 15:50Speaker 17: And there's them up the loss or.
- 15:54Speaker 4: Things that are out of their control. Here, I don't
- 15:56Speaker 4: think it a year whf we don't have.
- 15:58Speaker 16: Any starting pitching injuries because as having invented some nether
- 16:01Speaker 16: way to keep starting pictures healthy and when we have
- 16:04Speaker 16: hands strings and throwings and sport attorneys and I get
- 16:07Speaker 16: probably my mistake leaning on the winner take friends on
- 16:12Speaker 16: Twitter or X, but I hate to see those people
- 16:15Speaker 16: who I think do a great job and care more
- 16:18Speaker 16: about these players than anyone I've everturned around as a staff.
- 16:20Speaker 16: When I think if you ask are players present, reformer,
- 16:24Speaker 16: and how they feel about this training staff, they will
- 16:27Speaker 16: tell you they're as good and as empathetic and caring
- 16:31Speaker 16: and skilled as any training staff.
- 16:33Speaker 7: In the League's Justin Alder even acknowledges that it's probably
- 16:39Speaker 7: my mistake talking about Twitter and X opinions, and yes.
- 16:43Speaker 12: Well it sounds like he believes that it's just, you know,
- 16:47Speaker 12: an outlying group of fans that feel this way and
- 16:50Speaker 12: what he was referring to as the training staff and
- 16:52Speaker 12: the criticism they're getting because of the cavalcade of injuries
- 16:55Speaker 12: we've seen great.
- 16:57Speaker 7: Word just when cavalcade it's exactly what it is. That's
- 17:00Speaker 7: a great word. That's a scrabble word right there.
- 17:03Speaker 12: I play a lot of it with my mom's nice
- 17:07Speaker 12: Oh you're right.
- 17:07Speaker 15: Wait, that is what he's referring to.
- 17:09Speaker 12: If people don't understand, and when you see a lot
- 17:11Speaker 12: of injuries, I could see that being the target for
- 17:15Speaker 12: but you would think it was more fans. And I
- 17:17Speaker 12: think that's why he's referring to the fans, because they
- 17:20Speaker 12: only have voices on social media for the most part
- 17:23Speaker 12: that a team would actually see or hear. And he
- 17:27Speaker 12: blamed himself or even looking at it. You know, no,
- 17:30Speaker 12: don't look at that, and.
- 17:31Speaker 4: Then commenting on it publicly. Yeah, he also said sports
- 17:35Speaker 4: talk radio, he did say it.
- 17:37Speaker 15: Yeah, that that wasn't us.
- 17:38Speaker 4: He did say that.
- 17:39Speaker 7: And I don't know who on the station does talk
- 17:42Speaker 7: about the training staff of the Mariners or pointing fingers
- 17:45Speaker 7: at them.
- 17:45Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 17:46Speaker 12: I don't Well, there's more than one sports talk radio
- 17:48Speaker 12: in this town. I'll just say that, even though we
- 17:50Speaker 12: don't like to acknowledge that.
- 17:52Speaker 4: I understand for the marriage.
- 17:55Speaker 12: Yeah, I haven't heard it on our station, and I
- 17:58Speaker 12: can't listen to all thirteen hours a day, but I
- 18:01Speaker 12: haven't heard that be a big topic of conversation because
- 18:05Speaker 12: I think we talk more about the management style and
- 18:08Speaker 12: pitching changes.
- 18:10Speaker 7: So anyway, that in itself is peculiar. First of all,
- 18:14Speaker 7: he's eight years younger than I am. Probably shouldn't be
- 18:17Speaker 7: quoting Twitter and publicly commenting about what people say.
- 18:20Speaker 12: Can I give just the other side of the coin
- 18:23Speaker 12: is I think he wanted to defend of course he did, right,
- 18:26Speaker 12: So I mean maybe he shouldn't have said X or
- 18:29Speaker 12: you know, fringe. Now, yeah, that's going down to wording choice.
- 18:34Speaker 12: But I think he had every right to come out
- 18:36Speaker 12: and defend his staff, of course, right exactly. I do
- 18:41Speaker 12: understand the word choice, though could have been a little different.
- 18:45Speaker 4: I mean, let's put it in context here.
- 18:47Speaker 7: The Mariners, of all the teams in professional sports, to
- 18:51Speaker 7: call their fans a lunatic fringe for a franchise that
- 18:53Speaker 7: has never made a championship series of their league.
- 18:56Speaker 18: Ever, I'm not exaggerating. They've been around fifty years. You
- 19:02Speaker 18: know this, Jessamin, They've never made the World Series. Yet
- 19:05Speaker 18: that people are spending big bucks. They spend money the season.
- 19:08Speaker 18: Ticketholders spend thousands of dollars.
- 19:09Speaker 7: People spend eighty dollars on parking and sixty dollars on
- 19:12Speaker 7: beers and forty dollars on not talking. I don't know
- 19:18Speaker 7: that Mariner finds even if they're outspoken in their criticism
- 19:21Speaker 7: of the training staff for this instance, which I didn't
- 19:24Speaker 7: think is a big deal in this town, but the
- 19:26Speaker 7: general manager made it one. I'm not sure you call
- 19:28Speaker 7: a fan base of a team that's never been to
- 19:30Speaker 7: the finals of anything and fifty years of their existence
- 19:33Speaker 7: of lunatic fringe. They probably have a right to be
- 19:36Speaker 7: lunatics after this point.
- 19:39Speaker 12: I would also add to that that, and I say
- 19:41Speaker 12: this to Ian all the time that hate isn't the
- 19:44Speaker 12: ab opposite of love. Apathy is So if they're so
- 19:47Speaker 12: passionate about this team enough to be angry, that's actually
- 19:50Speaker 12: more of a positive than them not saying anything.
- 19:53Speaker 7: Yes, anyway, it was peculiar, to say the least, which
- 19:56Speaker 7: why I wanted to play it that baseball general manager
- 19:59Speaker 7: or a professional swittch manage of any league would call
- 20:02Speaker 7: some of his fan based a lunatic fringe. I get
- 20:04Speaker 7: his frustration of being and being defensive about his training
- 20:07Speaker 7: staff and the sporting them. And yes, and Justin and
- 20:10Speaker 7: You're exactly right. He's the boss of them, and he's
- 20:12Speaker 7: picking up for them publicly. Just not sure it was
- 20:15Speaker 7: that big of a point, I guess.
- 20:17Speaker 4: He just I haven't really.
- 20:19Speaker 12: Seen a huge I haven't seen any newspaper articles criticized.
- 20:23Speaker 12: There's nothing in the mainstream media that I've seen. So
- 20:27Speaker 12: and he again, he did say maybe I shouldn't pay
- 20:30Speaker 12: attention to it, and I would say, yes, you are correct,
- 20:33Speaker 12: justin because if I paid attention to every comment I
- 20:36Speaker 12: got on Twitter, I'd be laying in a box somewhere exactly,
- 20:39Speaker 12: curled up in the fetal position, exactly.
- 20:42Speaker 7: I've been in Seattle since nineteen ninety three, ninety four
- 20:46Speaker 7: I got here and as an officer at Fort Lewis,
- 20:50Speaker 7: I was there for ninety five and Edgar's double at
- 20:51Speaker 7: the top of the stadium.
- 20:52Speaker 4: I was inside the Kingdom with my wife.
- 20:54Speaker 7: I've been here that long and know that Mariner fans
- 20:57Speaker 7: and following the Mariners is a very frustrating and fruitless endeavor.
- 21:03Speaker 7: My point is, just don't call it franchises fan base
- 21:05Speaker 7: that has never ever tasted the world series of Lumatic fringe.
- 21:08Speaker 4: It just they can be whatever they want to be.
- 21:10Speaker 7: They had never they paid all this money and never
- 21:12Speaker 7: gotten a World Series, they probably have a right to
- 21:14Speaker 7: be along.
- 21:14Speaker 12: Well, you can just taste the frustration for him, because
- 21:17Speaker 12: Justin is pretty good at, you know, publicly speaking. You
- 21:21Speaker 12: could just taste the frustration that he must have and
- 21:24Speaker 12: that was you know, probably him holding back for.
- 21:27Speaker 15: What he really wanted to say.
- 21:28Speaker 12: So that would just speak to how he feels about
- 21:31Speaker 12: the criticism the training staff it's getting.
- 21:34Speaker 7: In my opinion, Luke Rayley is now injured by the
- 21:36Speaker 7: way dom Gonzone is playing through injury, which is why
- 21:39Speaker 7: he's dhing.
- 21:40Speaker 4: Randy A.
- 21:41Speaker 7: Rose Arena is walking to fly balls and balls a
- 21:44Speaker 7: hit on the field line because he's still not fully
- 21:46Speaker 7: back from hamstring issues. Dan Wilson intimated last week during
- 21:50Speaker 7: the series of Road Trip, So they still have plenty
- 21:54Speaker 7: of injury issue. Brendan Donovan, we don't know when he's
- 21:57Speaker 7: coming back. It looks like maybe August. Justin Hollander had
- 22:03Speaker 7: said before the last Hampton that Brenda Donovan could come back.
- 22:06Speaker 7: Maybe they still have Matt Brash on injured list. Carlos
- 22:10Speaker 7: Vargas has not pitched at all this year. Those two
- 22:13Speaker 7: men may come back at the end of August. Justin
- 22:15Speaker 7: Hollander has said they might be like trade deadline acquisition
- 22:19Speaker 7: type of rivals, which would mean into August. So yeah,
- 22:23Speaker 7: that's the injury context that Justin Holland was speaking about.
- 22:26Speaker 7: Last night, Dan Wilson mixed up his batting order. He
- 22:29Speaker 7: finally moved cal Rawley down. The one sixty seven hitter.
- 22:34Speaker 7: The soul and heartbeat of the team is no longer
- 22:36Speaker 7: the number two hitter. We'll tell you who is. I'll
- 22:38Speaker 7: tell you who should be, and we'll tell you where
- 22:40Speaker 7: Kyle Rawley is. And we'll have Dan Wilson explain why,
- 22:42Speaker 7: some of why he did it and what Cayl Rawley
- 22:44Speaker 7: did for the team last night.
- 22:46Speaker 4: That's coming up next eleven o'clock.
- 22:47Speaker 7: Jim Bowden, the general manager, a former general manager, Major
- 22:50Speaker 7: League Baseball general manager and now sirius XMM CBS sports analysts,
- 22:54Speaker 7: to talk about this GM manager dynamic that's going on
- 22:57Speaker 7: with the Mariners. He'll also talk about the trade deadline
- 22:59Speaker 7: that the Mariners are all going to be active in
- 23:00Speaker 7: and probably will again July and August.
- 23:04Speaker 4: That's all coming up.
- 23:04Speaker 7: In ninety three point three KJRFM, Welcome back, Greg Belt,
- 23:25Speaker 7: Jasmin McIntyre with you on ninety three point three KJRFM,
- 23:31Speaker 7: talk about the Mariners George Kirby solving their bullpen decision
- 23:35Speaker 7: problems by just going eight innings and shoven last night
- 23:38Speaker 7: against the Angels. We'll see what the batting order does,
- 23:42Speaker 7: because it changed last night, and we'll see if it's
- 23:43Speaker 7: the same tonight. Kyl Rawley has been number two in
- 23:47Speaker 7: the batting order almost all season, including when he came
- 23:50Speaker 7: back off the injury list. He was on for thirty
- 23:52Speaker 7: three days with the oblique. Yet he's still just hitting
- 23:55Speaker 7: one sixty seven as of this morning. One for four
- 23:58Speaker 7: last night, two strikeouts in the two runs single while
- 24:01Speaker 7: batting sixth for the first.
- 24:03Speaker 4: Time this year.
- 24:05Speaker 7: So manager Dan Wilson had seen enough and he's gonna
- 24:07Speaker 7: move his slugger, the guy who had sixty plus home runs,
- 24:11Speaker 7: the guy who carried them into the American League Championship
- 24:13Speaker 7: Series down to last year, down to sixth. Who moved
- 24:18Speaker 7: up and who moved down? Well beside Raleigh, they put
- 24:23Speaker 7: the same top of the order with JP Crawford leading off.
- 24:27Speaker 7: Rodriguez was batting second. Dom can Zone was a designated
- 24:30Speaker 7: hitter last night. He's playing through injury. He's not fully healthy,
- 24:33Speaker 7: so they're putting him at DH. Luke Rayley still bothered
- 24:37Speaker 7: by I think it's the wrist or the elbow injury
- 24:40Speaker 7: that he's had. I think the risk now that I'm
- 24:42Speaker 7: thinking about it, he's been playing through injury, but now
- 24:46Speaker 7: he's not playing un least the last couple of days.
- 24:49Speaker 7: Roblaze played in right field last night and bat at eight.
- 24:54Speaker 7: A Rose Arena was batting behind can zone at four,
- 24:57Speaker 7: and then Naylor then Raleigh. Dan Wilson talking about what Cole,
- 25:01Speaker 7: what Kyl Rawley did last night, which is reminiscent of
- 25:05Speaker 7: what he had said the day before, they needed to
- 25:07Speaker 7: do more about playing the all fields and not trying
- 25:09Speaker 7: to do everything in run scoring situations.
- 25:12Speaker 14: I think he hit the nail on the head yesterday
- 25:14Speaker 14: saying you didn't want to try to do too much
- 25:16Speaker 14: and and you know kind of pitch he could handle
- 25:18Speaker 14: and and uh, you know, got got got on him
- 25:21Speaker 14: a little bit, but able to hit it to the
- 25:22Speaker 14: left field and you know, get that ball in and
- 25:25Speaker 14: and pick up those two runs. I think, you know,
- 25:27Speaker 14: that's the approach, is not getting too big to where
- 25:31Speaker 14: you're swing and miss on that pitch or you you
- 25:33Speaker 14: know you take a swing where you're out in front,
- 25:36Speaker 14: but instead he stayed on it, stayed through it, and
- 25:39Speaker 14: able to get it into the left field and you know,
- 25:42Speaker 14: give us the lead, which I think was, you know,
- 25:44Speaker 14: obviously the big turning point.
- 25:45Speaker 4: In the ball game.
- 25:47Speaker 7: So based on the results and based on what you
- 25:49Speaker 7: just heard there from the manager Dan Wilson, it would
- 25:51Speaker 7: sound like Kyl Rowley's going to be batting sixth again tonight.
- 25:54Speaker 7: When you say, Jessman, I.
- 25:56Speaker 12: Mean all indications would point to yes, if it worked well,
- 26:00Speaker 12: six runs for this time exactly. That's the most they've
- 26:03Speaker 12: had in fourteen games. So yeah, you know who.
- 26:06Speaker 7: I'd put a number two, Cole Young. He's the most
- 26:10Speaker 7: valuable player of this team. I said that a week ago.
- 26:12Speaker 7: Some people in the text line disagreed with me. He
- 26:15Speaker 7: had two home runs last night. One of them was
- 26:17Speaker 7: off a left handed pitcher. Matter of fact, they had
- 26:20Speaker 7: two home runs off left handed pitchers last night. I
- 26:22Speaker 7: mean the iPads must have blown up. They probably exploded. Yeah,
- 26:26Speaker 7: left hander's bumpus was the hit left hands? Why Rob
- 26:28Speaker 7: Repschneider's on the roster. Reschneider, by the way, is injured
- 26:32Speaker 7: as well. May have to go in the injured list.
- 26:35Speaker 7: Justin Hollanders said there day by day trying to figure
- 26:37Speaker 7: him out too. It's a forum and an elbow for
- 26:40Speaker 7: Rayley resh Nighters also injured, although you wouldn't know it.
- 26:43Speaker 7: I mean, he's one thirty five and it's been there
- 26:46Speaker 7: all season. But now Raley, I won sixty seven, is
- 26:48Speaker 7: down the sixth. I'd put Cole Young, who batted seventh
- 26:51Speaker 7: again last night, up to two. Reward him for what
- 26:54Speaker 7: he is professional.
- 26:55Speaker 4: Bat at bets. We talked about this.
- 26:58Speaker 7: Pitch away runner at second out two strikes. Don't try
- 27:02Speaker 7: to pull that pitch. You're either gonna ground it and
- 27:04Speaker 7: roll it over to second base as a left handed batter,
- 27:06Speaker 7: or you're gonna strike out. He slaps it into left field.
- 27:09Speaker 7: He does that all the time, bunting. He actually bunts.
- 27:13Speaker 7: I'm still impressed by I keep thinking about that double
- 27:16Speaker 7: play he made a couple of weeks ago where he
- 27:18Speaker 7: simultaneously caught a chopper to second base and tagged the
- 27:20Speaker 7: runner out between first and second at the same time,
- 27:23Speaker 7: and then threw to first for the double play that
- 27:25Speaker 7: got him out of an inning. Cole Young is a ballplayer.
- 27:28Speaker 7: He's just professional and everything he does. He is two
- 27:32Speaker 7: years old.
- 27:32Speaker 12: Yes, I've spent a lot of time in that Mariners clubhouse,
- 27:35Speaker 12: you know, just talking to guys, getting him on the air,
- 27:38Speaker 12: doing interviews with them and everything. He is a pro
- 27:40Speaker 12: at such a young age. It is unbelievably impressive.
- 27:44Speaker 7: Twenty two years old. I'm jaanees o Ohio. Grew up
- 27:46Speaker 7: about an hour west of where I grew up with
- 27:48Speaker 7: some good stock. John Glenn High School in New Concord, Yes,
- 27:51Speaker 7: named after the astronaut a muskie played against them in
- 27:54Speaker 7: high school, Cole Young.
- 27:56Speaker 4: Last night, after the two home run game for the Mariners.
- 27:59Speaker 15: Well this is Dan Willis and discussing.
- 28:00Speaker 4: Discussing it. Thank you, jes.
- 28:02Speaker 14: We saw that power last year, you know at times
- 28:05Speaker 14: and and drove you know, the ball way out of
- 28:07Speaker 14: the ballpark. And tonight, you know, his second home run
- 28:10Speaker 14: this way out of the ballpark. And uh but again,
- 28:14Speaker 14: you know, I think talk about the home runs all
- 28:16Speaker 14: you want. I think that a very impressive ad bad
- 28:19Speaker 14: of his was getting that base at the left field
- 28:21Speaker 14: and staying inside the ball and just you know, getting
- 28:24Speaker 14: his hit the left field. I thought that was a
- 28:25Speaker 14: good swing too. And when you're able to do both
- 28:28Speaker 14: of those things. I think you're in a really good spot.
- 28:30Speaker 14: That's what he was able to do tonight. He's in
- 28:32Speaker 14: a good spot.
- 28:33Speaker 4: Up the middle opposite.
- 28:34Speaker 7: Used to tell my guys all the time coaching high
- 28:37Speaker 7: school baseball. Up the middle, opposite, don't try to pull
- 28:39Speaker 7: the ball up the middle up man. He did it
- 28:40Speaker 7: again last night. He's done it all season. Pitch away
- 28:44Speaker 7: up the middle, opposite, try to hit the whole fit.
- 28:46Speaker 7: It's just what Rowley talked about, Kyle Rowley talked about
- 28:48Speaker 7: in Cleveland, used the whole field, not try to do
- 28:51Speaker 7: too much, not try to hit home runs. They did
- 28:54Speaker 7: hit home runs last night, three of them, but they
- 28:56Speaker 7: also scored three runs without a home run, and that
- 28:58Speaker 7: would have won the game anyway. Three two because Angels
- 29:01Speaker 7: only had two runs because of George Kirby, who, by the.
- 29:05Speaker 12: Way, respect for Kirby man, Yeah, I heard him say,
- 29:09Speaker 12: by the way, just because George Kirby is coming, you know.
- 29:11Speaker 12: He said he was trying to get pissed off. That's
- 29:13Speaker 12: kind of the demeanor that he has. He said the
- 29:16Speaker 12: words I'm happy in that cut that we played from him.
- 29:20Speaker 12: I haven't heard him say that, and it made me
- 29:23Speaker 12: really happy for him that he took some joy in
- 29:26Speaker 12: the game.
- 29:27Speaker 4: That's good. We need a few more of those.
- 29:29Speaker 15: He's very stonefaced.
- 29:31Speaker 7: We need a few more those. Mariners are just back
- 29:34Speaker 7: to five hundred. Of course, Kirby made the All Star
- 29:35Speaker 7: Game two years ago when he was here in Seattle. Yeah,
- 29:38Speaker 7: and then a little bit of an off season and
- 29:40Speaker 7: many respects, including healthwise last year, and now he seems
- 29:43Speaker 7: to be getting back on track. Anyway, we'll say the
- 29:47Speaker 7: night Marina's second game of the series against the angel
- 29:49Speaker 7: Remember the series with the Angels. The home series is Monday, Tuesday,
- 29:52Speaker 7: Thursday because they're taking Wednesday off for the World Cup.
- 29:54Speaker 7: That's at one o'clock tomorrow Belgium and Senegal across the
- 29:57Speaker 7: street at loom And Field. By the way, remember yesterday
- 30:00Speaker 7: we talked about Buddy Kennedy, who was one hundred and
- 30:03Speaker 7: eighty nine plate appearances in his major league career and
- 30:05Speaker 7: he's a one to seventy one career average.
- 30:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I know you're joking that he'll fit.
- 30:09Speaker 7: Right in justin Holland or the GM yesterday said before
- 30:12Speaker 7: the game the reason they traded for Kennedy from the Giants. Well,
- 30:16Speaker 7: first of all, when you trade for cash considerations in baseball.
- 30:18Speaker 7: That means they were Giants were about to cut him.
- 30:21Speaker 7: He was probably going to go on waivers, and then
- 30:22Speaker 7: you would be as Mariners would be subject to getting
- 30:25Speaker 7: in waiverclaim order, and they'd be further down as well.
- 30:28Speaker 7: They wouldn't be that far down as a five hundred
- 30:30Speaker 7: division leader, second place team, but they wouldn't be first.
- 30:32Speaker 7: So to get to the front of the line, you
- 30:34Speaker 7: tell the Giants, Hey, if you're going to cut this
- 30:35Speaker 7: guy anyway, let's slide you twenty thousand, fifty hundred thought.
- 30:40Speaker 7: Whatever it is to get in the front of line,
- 30:42Speaker 7: we'll just trade and give you some cash and you
- 30:44Speaker 7: give him us. And that's how that works. So this
- 30:46Speaker 7: is what Justin Hollander said yesterday about why they targeted
- 30:49Speaker 7: Buddy Kennedy. Quote, Buddy can move around the field, really
- 30:52Speaker 7: hits left handed, pitching, makes great swing decisions, is really
- 30:56Speaker 7: really crush left He's a triple A Sacramento that is,
- 30:59Speaker 7: it's a nice fit if Ref has to go on
- 31:01Speaker 7: the il. Of course, they said that about Ref Schneider
- 31:04Speaker 7: when they signed him in the offseason for six point
- 31:06Speaker 7: two five million guaranteed. That contract is why he's still
- 31:09Speaker 7: on the team. I believe, how else would you be
- 31:11Speaker 7: carrying somebody who's about in one thirty seven the most
- 31:13Speaker 7: at bats in baseball and with the lowest average one
- 31:17Speaker 7: hundred plus at bats and hitting one thirty seven. But
- 31:19Speaker 7: now Res Schneider's hurt too, So Buddy Kennedy, who looked
- 31:22Speaker 7: like perhaps a minor league triple a fill in or
- 31:25Speaker 7: death piece, maybe staying up here a while. We'll see
- 31:29Speaker 7: what they do with Ref Schneider, if there's any roughter
- 31:31Speaker 7: move coming before they're aiming tonight. I don't know, Hey,
- 31:38Speaker 7: the left of handedness thing. The only user we're even
- 31:41Speaker 7: talking about Ref Schneider or Buddy Kennedy or anything is
- 31:45Speaker 7: because they're trying to find right handed batters to face
- 31:47Speaker 7: left handed pitching. Just trot your best dudes out there
- 31:49Speaker 7: and see what happens. Let's see what Let's drop the
- 31:52Speaker 7: handedness for a minute and let's just see what happens
- 31:54Speaker 7: with your best guy.
- 31:55Speaker 4: I know Rayley's banged up.
- 31:56Speaker 7: Now, who would be the guy that probably deserves at
- 31:59Speaker 7: least a left handed pitching, But now he's her too.
- 32:02Speaker 4: I don't know if it's Rod Blaze or I don't know.
- 32:05Speaker 4: You Jessman.
- 32:05Speaker 7: I'd rather see Roe Blaze and right field and the
- 32:08Speaker 7: chances against left handed pitching than Rof Schneider or Buddy
- 32:10Speaker 7: Kennedy right now.
- 32:12Speaker 15: Yeah, I mean, give Buddy Kennedy, he's.
- 32:14Speaker 4: A third baseman, second baseman, first baseman, but.
- 32:16Speaker 12: Give him a shot. Give Buddy a shot for sure.
- 32:18Speaker 12: But I agree with you that. I mean, you can't
- 32:21Speaker 12: just play the contract or play the left left. You
- 32:24Speaker 12: know that whole situation every single time I get this strategy.
- 32:29Speaker 4: You're right, it's just.
- 32:30Speaker 12: You don't have to keep rolling that out every single time.
- 32:33Speaker 12: And you know they gave Rouf Schneider. I would like
- 32:36Speaker 12: they gave him a shot. Give Buddy a shot. But yeah,
- 32:39Speaker 12: I'm with you on road Blace.
- 32:41Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll see.
- 32:42Speaker 7: If roe Blaze is in the line up again betting
- 32:43Speaker 7: eight as he was last night, I'd say Cole Young
- 32:45Speaker 7: needs to be up at second and slide Rodriguez down,
- 32:49Speaker 7: Slide Ken Zone down, slider Rose Arena down. But the
- 32:52Speaker 7: guy who's your best, most professional hitter with more at
- 32:54Speaker 7: bats up at number two, That's what I would do.
- 32:56Speaker 7: Four nine, four to five one. What would you do
- 32:58Speaker 7: with the maner's batting order? Do you like cow probably
- 33:00Speaker 7: down at six. I know a lot of you didn't
- 33:01Speaker 7: like cow roly at second and now he's down at six.
- 33:04Speaker 4: What do you think a Cole Young is the number
- 33:06Speaker 4: two hitter for this team? I like it right? It
- 33:08Speaker 4: was hot? Right.
- 33:09Speaker 15: Also, give us some talkbacks. I'm a talkback fiend.
- 33:12Speaker 4: Let's talk about what the talk about? Is the red
- 33:14Speaker 4: audio button on the iHeartRadio app.
- 33:16Speaker 12: Yeah, exactly thirty seconds or less, and you just talk
- 33:19Speaker 12: into the microphone. It even gives you a cute little
- 33:21Speaker 12: countdown three to one so you can prepare yourself. But
- 33:24Speaker 12: I love listening to voices on this air as well,
- 33:27Speaker 12: so we'll read your text.
- 33:29Speaker 15: But don't you want to hear your voice on the
- 33:30Speaker 15: radio tube.
- 33:31Speaker 4: And we'll open up the phone line sometime. That's scary.
- 33:34Speaker 15: Yeah, that's why I like talkback.
- 33:35Speaker 4: I knew you were going to say that. I knew
- 33:37Speaker 4: you were going to say.
- 33:38Speaker 12: That because I get to listen to them before I
- 33:39Speaker 12: put them on the air.
- 33:41Speaker 4: But yes, you go the iHeart Radio app.
- 33:43Speaker 7: Go to a little red microphone button at the bottom,
- 33:45Speaker 7: leave a max thirty second voice. Man, we'll play that
- 33:47Speaker 7: back too at eleven thirty if you want to do that.
- 33:49Speaker 7: Up next the Seahawks sale, what the next incremental step
- 33:53Speaker 7: is happened yesterday, We'll talk about the latest on the.
- 33:57Speaker 4: Sale of the Seahawks from the Paul g.
- 33:59Speaker 7: Allen Trust and where stands on ninety three point three
- 34:01Speaker 7: KJRFM Football Music in June, because there's football some incremental.
- 34:36Speaker 15: Twenty four sixty five.
- 34:39Speaker 7: Correcting something I said earlier, I told you the text
- 34:41Speaker 7: line four nine four five, one of the Komadat's text
- 34:43Speaker 7: line is nothing.
- 34:44Speaker 4: If not all over Arata.
- 34:46Speaker 7: On this show, I misspoke and said that cal Rawley's
- 34:49Speaker 7: first time at six was last night. He actually bet
- 34:51Speaker 7: at six Saturday in Cleveland. They were three, six and
- 34:56Speaker 7: five in the series in Cleveland. He betted third on
- 34:58Speaker 7: Friday sixth on Saturda Today Sunday he batted fifth. Yes,
- 35:02Speaker 7: so Dan Wilson is moving him around. We'll see if
- 35:06Speaker 7: tonight he has two games in a row at six,
- 35:08Speaker 7: which he hasn't done, but he did Thay three, six
- 35:11Speaker 7: and five in the three games in Cleveland. Thank you,
- 35:14Speaker 7: I misspoke and I apologize. Thank you for the tax
- 35:16Speaker 7: line four nine, four to five to one. Norway has
- 35:19Speaker 7: a one nothing lead on Ivory Coast ending the first
- 35:21Speaker 7: half in Dallas of the round of thirty two match
- 35:24Speaker 7: the marquee game, the best game of the day. It
- 35:26Speaker 7: looks like it's going to be Mexico and Ecuador in
- 35:28Speaker 7: Mexico City tonight six pm start at the United States
- 35:30Speaker 7: Tomorrow against Bosnia Herzgovina at five o'clock in the round
- 35:34Speaker 7: of thirty two in Santa Clara. If they win, they
- 35:36Speaker 7: will play in Seattle on Monday in the round of sixteen.
- 35:38Speaker 7: They will play the winner of Belgium and Senegal, who
- 35:40Speaker 7: played tomorrow at Lumenfield at one o'clock. Albe at Jimmy's
- 35:43Speaker 7: on First broadcasting live across the street from the stadium
- 35:46Speaker 7: in the pre match color That goes on for Belgium
- 35:49Speaker 7: and Senegal tomorrow in the round of thirty two in Seattle. Yesterday,
- 35:53Speaker 7: Bloomberg News the Financial Bible said that the first round
- 35:59Speaker 7: of for the Seahawks sale was to end yesterday.
- 36:02Speaker 4: It was a deadline. What's that mean?
- 36:04Speaker 7: Well, most likely there's three multiple We know of three
- 36:08Speaker 7: reported multiple bidders, including a Adia Mattal who's a steel
- 36:15Speaker 7: baron out of India, an investor in the Boston Celtics.
- 36:18Speaker 7: Wick Crossbeck, who used to be the Boston Celtics principal owner.
- 36:23Speaker 7: And then Venad Kosla, who is a founding co founder
- 36:28Speaker 7: of Sun Microsystems, who is a minority owner in the
- 36:30Speaker 7: San Francisco forty nine ers, is rumored to be in
- 36:33Speaker 7: the bidding as well. He'd have to divest those forty
- 36:35Speaker 7: nine er funds if he wanted to become the Seahawks owner.
- 36:39Speaker 7: And the Eldridge Industry CEO Todd Botley Bowley excuse me.
- 36:44Speaker 7: Bowley is someone who's invested in the Los Angeles Dodgers,
- 36:48Speaker 7: and he is trying to get some of the Dodgers'
- 36:49Speaker 7: buddies to see if they want to put a bid together.
- 36:52Speaker 7: That's reportedly from multiple reports and including Bloomberg. Yesterday was
- 36:56Speaker 7: supposed to be the end of the first phase, first
- 36:58Speaker 7: round of bidding.
- 36:59Speaker 4: What's that mean?
- 37:00Speaker 7: Well, of course they're going to try to have them
- 37:02Speaker 7: bid against each other and drive up the price of
- 37:04Speaker 7: the franchise. And I'm sure that those bids have rights
- 37:07Speaker 7: of answering what other bids are. You don't just allow
- 37:11Speaker 7: it somebody to put one bid in it.
- 37:12Speaker 15: Yeah, there's no first writer or fesal or any.
- 37:14Speaker 7: Yeah, it's not a blind bid where you don't get
- 37:16Speaker 7: a chance to match or come back the estate, come
- 37:19Speaker 7: back and say, Okay, here's what this team big b
- 37:22Speaker 7: bid you, teammate, you want to bid up again. All
- 37:25Speaker 7: signs are that it's going to be well above six
- 37:27Speaker 7: billion dollars, which is the current six point zho five
- 37:29Speaker 7: is currently the record sale price for an NFL franchise.
- 37:32Speaker 7: The Washington Commander's Jessamon's team or buddies that worked for
- 37:35Speaker 7: them from a couple of years ago. And the word
- 37:39Speaker 7: the numbers I'm hearing are starting an eight billion dollars,
- 37:43Speaker 7: which would be the largest and second large That would
- 37:45Speaker 7: be the second largest franchise stale in North American sports history,
- 37:48Speaker 7: behind the Lakers for ten billion last year. I'm still
- 37:53Speaker 7: being told and heard from multiple people who say they know,
- 37:58Speaker 7: and I'm not ready to like print it repor verified,
- 38:00Speaker 7: but there's another one out there beyond the three?
- 38:03Speaker 12: Is it?
- 38:03Speaker 15: Someone spear? Thank goodness?
- 38:06Speaker 7: Yeah, that's what I think fans would be excited to hear.
- 38:08Speaker 7: It's local waiting to see what the other bids come
- 38:10Speaker 7: in at so they don't outbid themselves.
- 38:13Speaker 12: That's what I was going to ask you when you
- 38:15Speaker 12: hear those names and where they're from and where their
- 38:17Speaker 12: investments lie.
- 38:19Speaker 15: How does it make you feel? Because I was disappointed. Well,
- 38:22Speaker 15: I didn't like it.
- 38:23Speaker 4: Many pro sports franchises are owned by out of town.
- 38:25Speaker 12: I'm aware of that, but we were just in the
- 38:27Speaker 12: wake of a locally owned team.
- 38:29Speaker 4: We've been spoiled.
- 38:30Speaker 7: Yeah, we've been spoiled for thirty years that the Seahawks
- 38:33Speaker 7: have been exactly and the marriage for that matter, although
- 38:36Speaker 7: the Mariners had Nintendo for a while. But yeah, the
- 38:41Speaker 7: franchises here in Seattle, it's not a given that local
- 38:44Speaker 7: owners will buy, especially in the price.
- 38:47Speaker 12: We have been spoiled and this is what we've come
- 38:49Speaker 12: to expect. And everyone, I mean watching that ring ceremony
- 38:52Speaker 12: with the Seahawks, get that, and everyone's like, Jody, please,
- 38:56Speaker 12: please don't sell the team just because of what a
- 38:58Speaker 12: wonderful job she's done on the player's end, the coaches,
- 39:01Speaker 12: and the facilities. She has completely picked up where Paul
- 39:05Speaker 12: Allen left off.
- 39:06Speaker 15: Rip Paul Allen, but she didn't.
- 39:10Speaker 12: She trusted the team the same way that Paul Allen did.
- 39:14Speaker 12: And I saw Paul be just an owner that took
- 39:17Speaker 12: care of his team and kind of hands off. And
- 39:19Speaker 12: that's how Jody was, except she wasn't afraid to make decisions.
- 39:22Speaker 15: You know, when it came to letting Pete Carroll go,
- 39:26Speaker 15: she wanted to win.
- 39:27Speaker 12: And I think that was the first step to showing
- 39:30Speaker 12: that that she wasn't just some bank rolling owner, that
- 39:33Speaker 12: she actually cared about this team. Sorry, and getting passionate
- 39:36Speaker 12: about it, but I just loved her as an owner.
- 39:39Speaker 7: Jody Allen's legacy move for the Seahawks sale or ownership
- 39:43Speaker 7: of the team, chair of the team for her brother's
- 39:46Speaker 7: trust was choosing John Schneider's.
- 39:48Speaker 4: Path forward over Pete Carroll's. Yes, that was what it
- 39:51Speaker 4: came down to.
- 39:52Speaker 7: Pete Carroll did not want to fire his coordinators. He
- 39:54Speaker 7: wanted to stay loyal to his assistants. At the end
- 39:56Speaker 7: of a non playoff season a couple of years ago,
- 39:59Speaker 7: and John Schneider said, no, we need to clean house,
- 40:02Speaker 7: and Carol said no. And Jody Allen was the final
- 40:05Speaker 7: arbiter of that, and Jody Allen chose John Schneider's way
- 40:08Speaker 7: and for the first time gave John Schneider the control
- 40:11Speaker 7: of the football operations of the franchise.
- 40:12Speaker 4: Remember it was basically Pete Carroll who.
- 40:15Speaker 7: Hired John Schneider as the first time GM in January
- 40:18Speaker 7: twenty ten, not vice versa. Carol was the executive vice
- 40:22Speaker 7: president of football Operations. He had the final say, and
- 40:25Speaker 7: Jody Allen changed that when she fired Pete Carroll and
- 40:28Speaker 7: now John Schneider is Mike McDonald's clear boss and it's
- 40:32Speaker 7: flipped now it's a first time head coach and a
- 40:36Speaker 7: veteran general manager other than the other way around, like
- 40:39Speaker 7: it wasn't Pete Carroll and John Schneider got here in
- 40:41Speaker 7: twenty ten. So credit for sure Jody Allen for that.
- 40:46Speaker 7: That was a fork in the road for the franchise
- 40:48Speaker 7: and she chose the correct path. Obviously, with Mike McDonald
- 40:51Speaker 7: and John Schneider have done in two years speaks for itself.
- 40:54Speaker 7: So what happens now with the bidding, Well, you have
- 40:57Speaker 7: to have my NFL rules at least thirty percent of
- 41:00Speaker 7: down payment for your bid, So if it's about eight
- 41:02Speaker 7: billion dollars, thirty percent of eight billion has to be
- 41:05Speaker 7: the cash put down up front as your bid. So
- 41:09Speaker 7: that's first. Secondly, you can take on debt to make
- 41:13Speaker 7: your bid. And then the NFL recently allowed private equity
- 41:17Speaker 7: groups to get involved up to ten percent that before
- 41:21Speaker 7: had not been the case. But because valuations of French
- 41:24Speaker 7: and because they want valuations of franchise to continue to
- 41:26Speaker 7: go up, the NFL says, Okay, if we're going to
- 41:29Speaker 7: make this six, eight, ten billion dollar franch we need
- 41:32Speaker 7: to have the ability for buyers to borrow and bring
- 41:37Speaker 7: in other partners in private equity that could drive up
- 41:40Speaker 7: the value of their bid. And so now you're allowed
- 41:43Speaker 7: to have private equity up to ten percent of the
- 41:47Speaker 7: team's value, and private equity that's new here in the
- 41:49Speaker 7: last couple of years. So those are all potential options.
- 41:52Speaker 7: I don't think there are only a couple people locally,
- 41:55Speaker 7: and the one I have in mind is one of
- 41:57Speaker 7: them that can write a check for eight billion dollars
- 41:59Speaker 7: in the team outright. Otherwise it's probably going to be
- 42:02Speaker 7: a consortium of investors. I think Melinda Gates joining Samantha
- 42:07Speaker 7: Halloway in one room Sports and Entertainment that are going
- 42:10Speaker 7: to bid on the Sonics. But that kind of bringing
- 42:14Speaker 7: in others and partners and things like that's also in
- 42:17Speaker 7: play too. There are nothing that I have gotten, no
- 42:20Speaker 7: indication that this is going to get done before the
- 42:22Speaker 7: season starts.
- 42:23Speaker 4: That was a kind of a goal and they'd like
- 42:25Speaker 4: it to, but I.
- 42:27Speaker 7: Don't see that as feasible right now unless somebody steps
- 42:31Speaker 7: up and blows the other bidders away with a clear
- 42:33Speaker 7: bit higher than the.
- 42:33Speaker 4: Others, the Seahawks.
- 42:36Speaker 7: Again, it bears mentioning again Jody Allen, as I have
- 42:40Speaker 7: not read, nor has anybody in the media read, the
- 42:42Speaker 7: actual will of Paul Allen and his wishes for these franchises.
- 42:47Speaker 7: But I have been told that Paul Allen wants it
- 42:50Speaker 7: to go to the highest bid the maximum amount of
- 42:52Speaker 7: money sale for these franchises, so that the money can
- 42:54Speaker 7: then go to philanthropy, his charitable causes. So it's in
- 42:59Speaker 7: the benefit of his cherrible causes that the Seahawks take
- 43:01Speaker 7: the highest bidder here. The NFL does have a say
- 43:04Speaker 7: in it in that, of course, it has to be
- 43:06Speaker 7: approved by the majority of the owners. So it just
- 43:09Speaker 7: can't be Jody Allen picking whoever she wants and then
- 43:11Speaker 7: the owners having to go up.
- 43:13Speaker 4: They have to vote it.
- 43:14Speaker 7: It'd be okay, And we talked in the past about
- 43:16Speaker 7: how the NFL owners in particular are very guarded on
- 43:18Speaker 7: who they let in to their group of owners, so
- 43:20Speaker 7: they will definitely have a say in this.
- 43:22Speaker 4: But much more to come.
- 43:23Speaker 7: This is just the first stage of bidding, collecting the
- 43:27Speaker 7: bids and see where everybody stands. That's where the Seahawks stands.
- 43:31Speaker 7: Sales stands currently as of right now. Up next, Jim
- 43:34Speaker 7: Bowden is a former Major League Baseball general major. In fact,
- 43:36Speaker 7: he was the youngest general manager in major league history

- 43:44Speaker 7: CBS Sports analyst. We're got to talk about the GM
- 43:47Speaker 7: dynamic with first time manager Dan Wilson here in Seattle,

- 44:36Speaker 7: Joining us in the Beacon Plumbing Hotline live former Major
- 44:39Speaker 7: League Baseball general manager Jim Boden, who's now Serious XM.
- 44:42Speaker 7: He's with calling this with the Athletic, He's with CBS Sports.
- 44:46Speaker 7: He is a trade deadline savant.
- 44:48Speaker 4: He knows everything about baseball and Major League Baseball and
- 44:51Speaker 4: general managership. Hello Jim, thanks for joining us. So you're busy.
- 44:55Speaker 10: Hey Greg, great to be back with your show. Thanks
- 44:58Speaker 10: for having me on.
- 44:58Speaker 4: You're welcome.
- 44:59Speaker 7: It's good to talk to your And I was going
- 45:01Speaker 7: to start asking you about something you may in your past.
- 45:05Speaker 7: I'm trying to remember if you have direct experience with this,
- 45:07Speaker 7: but a veteran general at Seattle of course, as a
- 45:10Speaker 7: veteran general manager slash president and Jerry Depoto hiring a
- 45:15Speaker 7: first time field manager. Last time it was Scott Service
- 45:18Speaker 7: who had no managerial experience in the major leagues, and
- 45:21Speaker 7: now it's Dan Wilson, who had no managerial experience anywhere.
- 45:25Speaker 7: Can you talk about just the uniqueness of that and
- 45:28Speaker 7: what the general manager's role in your mind should be
- 45:30Speaker 7: for first time manager. Would he tend to be more
- 45:34Speaker 7: hands on and more involved in the day to day
- 45:36Speaker 7: planning and operations of a game plan because.
- 45:38Speaker 10: Of that, Oh, there's no doubt that's the case.
- 45:41Speaker 4: You know.
- 45:42Speaker 19: I had a couple of rookie managers during my career.
- 45:47Speaker 19: All the other managers had more experience, but certainly looks
- 45:51Speaker 19: like any job I think in America, when you have
- 45:53Speaker 19: somebody that has not done it before, you tend to
- 45:57Speaker 19: make sure you're more heavily involved to make.
- 45:59Speaker 10: Sure that that person has.
- 46:02Speaker 19: The access, the information, the experience people around them to
- 46:06Speaker 19: try to lessen the mistakes, because obviously, when you're doing
- 46:09Speaker 19: something for the first time, more mistakes take place than
- 46:13Speaker 19: if you've had a lot of experience and already learn
- 46:16Speaker 19: from the failures, right, and so what you try to
- 46:18Speaker 19: do with someone that's doing it for the first time
- 46:20Speaker 19: is prevent the failures based on the wisdom that you
- 46:23Speaker 19: and the organization have had prior to So you're definitely
- 46:28Speaker 19: more involved, especially that first and second year of a
- 46:31Speaker 19: rookie manager.
- 46:33Speaker 4: Jim I'm dating myself here, but when I covered major.
- 46:35Speaker 7: League Baseball as a beat right in early two thousands,
- 46:37Speaker 7: the Billy Bean Artiu Ken Mackham moneyball A's the general manager,
- 46:42Speaker 7: Billy Bean did not have daily meetings or set okay tonight,
- 46:46Speaker 7: you can't use we don't want to use this reliever,
- 46:49Speaker 7: or we're not going to put this guy second in order,
- 46:52Speaker 7: let's move him down to six daily, like it seems
- 46:55Speaker 7: I've been told the Mariners do with Jerry Depoto and
- 46:58Speaker 7: Dan Wilson. Is is that the way the game is
- 47:01Speaker 7: now or is that in your mind still unusual.
- 47:05Speaker 10: No, that's the way the game is now.
- 47:07Speaker 19: It's completely changed, and the way the teams are operating
- 47:11Speaker 19: is completely different. So you have a much more collaborative,
- 47:15Speaker 19: collective approach to the game.
- 47:17Speaker 4: Period.
- 47:18Speaker 10: You're utilizing you know.
- 47:20Speaker 19: Not your scouts, but analytics technology, artificial intelligence. You're getting
- 47:25Speaker 19: as much information from the medical people, from the biometric people,
- 47:30Speaker 19: from the conditioning people, from the science, from the engineers
- 47:33Speaker 19: on the best way to win baseball games, and all
- 47:36Speaker 19: of that is baked in and cooked in, and so
- 47:39Speaker 19: it takes more people and takes more minds to try
- 47:41Speaker 19: to get it right.
- 47:43Speaker 10: You know. That's what the Seattle Mariners are doing right
- 47:45Speaker 10: now as you know.
- 47:46Speaker 19: I mean, they've got six starting pitchers and they've been
- 47:50Speaker 19: trying to navigate how to handle it.
- 47:52Speaker 10: And basically, what.
- 47:53Speaker 19: Jerry Depoto did was he got himself in the front office,
- 47:56Speaker 19: along with his advanced team, along with Dan Wilson, along
- 48:00Speaker 19: with the pitching coaches, the analytic people together to try
- 48:05Speaker 19: to figure out how do we best handle this problem
- 48:09Speaker 19: that we have with six starting pitchers, all of them
- 48:11Speaker 19: deserve to start. And basically they came up with three
- 48:14Speaker 19: different options. The first one was send a starter of
- 48:17Speaker 19: the bullpen, which is what.
- 48:18Speaker 10: I would have done.
- 48:19Speaker 19: I would have put Louis Castillo in the bullpen, but
- 48:21Speaker 19: they didn't want to do that. The second option was
- 48:24Speaker 19: to run a six man rotation, but there were too
- 48:26Speaker 19: many people in that collective group that were concerned about
- 48:29Speaker 19: how a seven man bullpen would manage the workload that's
- 48:32Speaker 19: needed to keep everybody healthy and effective. And then the
- 48:36Speaker 19: third option was a split game, which they did with
- 48:39Speaker 19: Miller and Castillo. And so when the collective group.
- 48:44Speaker 10: Came in, and it wasn't unanimous, but.
- 48:46Speaker 19: When the collective group came in, they opted for option
- 48:50Speaker 19: three at that time, and of course things have changed
- 48:53Speaker 19: because of off days, etc. Then they actually went to.
- 48:56Speaker 10: A six man rotation, as you know. But you know,
- 49:00Speaker 10: the one thing the.
- 49:01Speaker 19: Group decided was that there they were a better team
- 49:05Speaker 19: if all six are pitching for them and all are
- 49:07Speaker 19: linked in doubt the long term, that protects them from injuries, etc.
- 49:13Speaker 10: The other thing is they kind of did a hiccup
- 49:15Speaker 10: at the beginning because they didn't really communicate well with
- 49:18Speaker 10: all the pitchers.
- 49:19Speaker 19: But they circled back and then they met with all
- 49:22Speaker 19: six pitchers and then they laid out the same three
- 49:25Speaker 19: options to the six pitchers, and the group of the
- 49:28Speaker 19: six pitchers didn't want to send a starter to the pen.
- 49:32Speaker 19: They didn't want to run a six man rotation. So
- 49:35Speaker 19: the group of pitchers ended up agreeing with Dan Wilson
- 49:37Speaker 19: and Jerry Depoto in the front office and they danced
- 49:40Speaker 19: team et.
- 49:40Speaker 10: Cetera, etcetera.
- 49:41Speaker 19: The analytic people that splitting a game probably was the
- 49:45Speaker 19: best avenue to go, although not ideal, and that's kind
- 49:49Speaker 19: of where it stands right now.
- 49:51Speaker 10: But to your point, which is a great.
- 49:54Speaker 19: Question, would this have happened when you were the beat writer? No,
- 49:57Speaker 19: would this have happened when I was the GM. No,
- 50:00Speaker 19: this would not have happened. But that is how they
- 50:04Speaker 19: have come to the decision, and they're doing it collectively
- 50:07Speaker 19: with the whole idea they're going to either succeed or fail.
- 50:09Speaker 10: As a group.
- 50:10Speaker 4: This is Jim Bowden. He's former Major League Baseball general manager.
- 50:13Speaker 4: He was the youngest general manager.
- 50:14Speaker 7: In base Major League Baseball history in nineteen ninety two
- 50:16Speaker 7: and he was, at thirty one years old, the general
- 50:18Speaker 7: manager of the Reds. He's now Serrus XM the athletic
- 50:21Speaker 7: columnists and CBS Sports joining us on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. Okay,
- 50:24Speaker 7: I agree with you. I have said I would put
- 50:26Speaker 7: Louis Castiu in the bullpen. Yet as this arrangement is
- 50:30Speaker 7: six starters, has he's pitched as well as he has
- 50:32Speaker 7: in a couple of years under this arrangement, as you
- 50:35Speaker 7: know around baseball, what is his market value now that
- 50:38Speaker 7: he hasn't gone to the bullpen? Because I submit that's
- 50:40Speaker 7: the whole reason they're doing this, because a reliever Louis
- 50:44Speaker 7: Castillo at twenty four million dollars a year is not tradeable.
- 50:47Speaker 7: A starter Louis Castillo, with how he's performing at twenty
- 50:50Speaker 7: four million could be more palatable. What's his trade market
- 50:53Speaker 7: right now hitting in July.
- 50:56Speaker 10: Yeah, if he keeps pitching the way he's pitching, certainly
- 50:59Speaker 10: it's going to improve. I mean, I think you know,
- 51:01Speaker 10: other teams.
- 51:01Speaker 19: Are still looking at him with an ERA of four
- 51:03Speaker 19: point nine three overall with seventy.
- 51:05Speaker 10: Three strikeouts at seventy six innings. But to your point,
- 51:09Speaker 10: you know, he has pitched much better in the pen.
- 51:11Speaker 10: His stuff has ticked up, you.
- 51:14Speaker 19: Know, but he's only you know, one or two times
- 51:16Speaker 19: around the lineup is all you're getting. And when you know,
- 51:19Speaker 19: you start talking about, you know, what he's making at
- 51:22Speaker 19: twenty four point one five million, you know, and you've
- 51:26Speaker 19: got that vesting option also in twenty twenty eight at
- 51:30Speaker 19: twenty five million. I mean, that's a lot of money
- 51:32Speaker 19: still on the books. So you're not sure the contract
- 51:35Speaker 19: is movable right now. But I think you know, the
- 51:38Speaker 19: other issue too, is that you know, you've got Katie
- 51:40Speaker 19: Anderson coming, You've got Ryan Sloan coming.
- 51:42Speaker 10: Anderson probably gonna end.
- 51:43Speaker 19: Up in the bullpen here. But I think to win
- 51:45Speaker 19: a championship you're going to need all six starters.
- 51:48Speaker 10: So I don't think they're going through this.
- 51:50Speaker 19: With the idea of we're going to trade Louis or
- 51:52Speaker 19: anybody in that group. I think it's more how do
- 51:56Speaker 19: we best prepare for October? How do we best prepare
- 51:59Speaker 19: when we get to October to win the championship? And
- 52:02Speaker 19: Castillo is going to be in the bullpen in October,
- 52:04Speaker 19: You're not going to start, you know, the other five
- 52:07Speaker 19: guys or four, the other five guys will be starting
- 52:10Speaker 19: and two will pitch out of the bullpen in all likelihood, right,
- 52:13Speaker 19: you probably go with four starters in that format. So
- 52:16Speaker 19: I think that's kind of where it is to trade
- 52:19Speaker 19: Castillo now. I mean sure, if somebody wanted to take
- 52:21Speaker 19: all that money off the books, you'd consider it. But
- 52:25Speaker 19: at the same time, boy, if there's one problem I'd
- 52:27Speaker 19: like to have Seattle to have too much pitching. Yeah,
- 52:30Speaker 19: exactly right, that's a problem I would love to have
- 52:33Speaker 19: right now, especially the way the American League is set.
- 52:36Speaker 7: Up, Jim, because it's so just plain unconventional. Would you,
- 52:40Speaker 7: as a general managould be willing to if your ownership
- 52:43Speaker 7: allowed you to eat some money to trade Castillo if
- 52:46Speaker 7: that would solve this six people for five spots.
- 52:51Speaker 10: No, I wouldn't I would solve it by putting Castillo
- 52:53Speaker 10: in the pen. I mean, I can't emphasize that enough.
- 52:55Speaker 10: And I know they don't want to, and I totally
- 52:57Speaker 10: understand that out of respect to Louis Castillo's history, you know,
- 53:01Speaker 10: of being an All Star and how good he's been
- 53:03Speaker 10: in his career. But you know, I always believe.
- 53:07Speaker 19: I mean, I believe number one of five in rotation
- 53:09Speaker 19: is the.
- 53:09Speaker 10: Way to go. And I'm the old school, which is
- 53:12Speaker 10: the five best.
- 53:12Speaker 19: Starters start, regardless of contract, regardless of history, regardless of anything.
- 53:18Speaker 19: I'm paid to win championships. I'm going with the five. Louis,
- 53:22Speaker 19: you're gonna have to you know, you're gonna have to
- 53:24Speaker 19: pitch out of the pen, and that's what I would do.
- 53:26Speaker 19: I know he doesn't want to.
- 53:27Speaker 10: I know that's not what he would like.
- 53:29Speaker 19: But you know, to me, you got to make tough
- 53:30Speaker 19: decisions here. But they can get by doing it the
- 53:33Speaker 19: way they are for now. At some point they're gonna
- 53:36Speaker 19: have to make that decision, though you know it's to me,
- 53:39Speaker 19: it's really hard because what's your other option. I mean,
- 53:42Speaker 19: let's be honest. Bryce Miller has been one of the
- 53:44Speaker 19: best pitchers in baseball. Since he got off the il
- 53:46Speaker 19: with oblique. Let's be realistic, Emerson Hancock is having his
- 53:50Speaker 19: breakout season and he's been solid since day one, and Gilbert,
- 53:54Speaker 19: Rooke and Kirby are just studs. All have been All
- 53:57Speaker 19: Stars and all have gotten cy young boats over the
- 53:59Speaker 19: last few years. So who do.
- 54:01Speaker 10: You feel best about putting in the pen? Well, it's
- 54:03Speaker 10: easy for me. It's Castillo. Now, I know he's pitched better.
- 54:06Speaker 10: I get it.
- 54:07Speaker 19: I think he'd even be better if he was put
- 54:09Speaker 19: in a shorter spurts where you only have to face
- 54:14Speaker 19: four hitters.
- 54:15Speaker 10: I think the stuff would pick up.
- 54:16Speaker 19: Even more and give them a solid pitcher for the
- 54:19Speaker 19: sixth and seventh inning and add some depth.
- 54:22Speaker 10: So again, that's what I would do. But I respect
- 54:24Speaker 10: what they're doing and I'm fine with the process because
- 54:27Speaker 10: the process.
- 54:28Speaker 19: They have collectively included all six starters, and they've included
- 54:33Speaker 19: the front office, the pitching coaches, and the manager and
- 54:36Speaker 19: everyone's part of this decision. So because of the way
- 54:39Speaker 19: they're handling it, I'm fine with it.
- 54:42Speaker 7: You mentioned Kate Anderson at Double A Arkansas, who's just shoving?
- 54:46Speaker 7: Do you bring him up and just have your best
- 54:48Speaker 7: thirteen dudes? For October, Or do you worry about slotting
- 54:51Speaker 7: him and not starting him because he's been a start
- 54:53Speaker 7: all that, or you just bring up your best thirteen
- 54:55Speaker 7: guys and he's one of them.
- 54:57Speaker 10: Yeah. I want to win a championship.
- 54:58Speaker 19: I got a window here and see out of the
- 55:00Speaker 19: win a championship.
- 55:01Speaker 10: I have a league with parody. You know, I'm more.
- 55:03Speaker 19: You know, the Yankees are really good, the Rays are good,
- 55:06Speaker 19: Cleveland's pretty good, Chicago's okay. But the Mariners can do
- 55:10Speaker 19: it this year? You know, this is the window.
- 55:12Speaker 10: This is it. Last year. Legit chance to win. This year,
- 55:16Speaker 10: legit chance to win. I'm going every I'm doing everything
- 55:20Speaker 10: I can to win that. And if Kate Anderson needs
- 55:23Speaker 10: to be in the big leagues pitching out of the pen,
- 55:24Speaker 10: then I'm doing it because I'm trying to win a
- 55:26Speaker 10: championship and nothing's going to stand in my prigging way.
- 55:30Speaker 10: It's just like I know they're not looking for it.
- 55:31Speaker 10: I try to go get another bath. I don't care
- 55:34Speaker 10: if the d H or right fielder, I don't.
- 55:36Speaker 19: I don't care how or where I'm going to get
- 55:39Speaker 19: another frigging bat, just like he did last year when
- 55:41Speaker 19: he went and got you know, Josh Naylor and Hennio Suarez,
- 55:47Speaker 19: go get one more. Let's bring up Anderson, Let's go
- 55:49Speaker 19: get one more, and let's go for it. This is
- 55:52Speaker 19: an exciting time. Look, I know they're underachieving. I get it,
- 55:55Speaker 19: but the offense isn't doing what they're supposed to do.
- 55:58Speaker 19: But here's the one thing I learned in my seventeen
- 56:01Speaker 19: years of being a GM. The pitching in August and
- 56:05Speaker 19: September is what's going to set you up for October.
- 56:08Speaker 19: That's when teams separate. The teams with the best pitching
- 56:11Speaker 19: separates in August. In September, that's when Seattle's going to
- 56:14Speaker 19: win this division. That's when they're going to win the West.
- 56:17Speaker 19: Then the next step is going to be how am
- 56:19Speaker 19: I best prepared in October to run the table and
- 56:23Speaker 19: get to that World Series.
- 56:25Speaker 7: Jim Bowden, former general manager now Sirius XM and the
- 56:29Speaker 7: Athletic and CBS Sports joining us on the Beacon Plumbing hotline.
- 56:33Speaker 7: They have intimated in the local press Jim that they
- 56:36Speaker 7: will seek a right handed bat, in particular because Rev.
- 56:39Speaker 7: Snyder's hitting one thirty seven against lefties and they are
- 56:41Speaker 7: troubles all season against left handed pitching. Could you see
- 56:45Speaker 7: Heydo Suarez coming back for a third go round. I
- 56:48Speaker 7: mean there's some teams like the Reds and others that
- 56:50Speaker 7: are already way out of it. I know the markets early,
- 56:54Speaker 7: but what do you see available to the Mariners if
- 56:57Speaker 7: they wanted to add a right handed bat?
- 57:01Speaker 19: Yeah, I don't see a lot right now. And they're
- 57:04Speaker 19: not the only team looking for that right handed that
- 57:06Speaker 19: Philadelphia Phillies have been everywhere looking for it. You know,
- 57:10Speaker 19: the hard part is when I talk to gms every week,
- 57:13Speaker 19: the hard part is, right now, who's really selling Besides
- 57:16Speaker 19: the Rockies and Giants. Everybody else is kind of in between.
- 57:20Speaker 19: So you're just gonna have to wait this out a.
- 57:24Speaker 10: Little bit more. You know, the gms right now are
- 57:26Speaker 10: focused on the draft, which is in a couple of weeks.
- 57:29Speaker 19: After the all start break, things will you know, start
- 57:33Speaker 19: to materialize and there'll be more teams that drop back
- 57:36Speaker 19: and drop out of it. But you know, the one
- 57:39Speaker 19: good thing Seattle does have if they wanted to is
- 57:43Speaker 19: you know, they have a good farm system to go
- 57:45Speaker 19: get a piece that they need to get. They could
- 57:49Speaker 19: trade a castillo in a package with a prospect or
- 57:51Speaker 19: two to try to get a beat that way as
- 57:54Speaker 19: well as you know, so you know, we'll have to see.
- 57:56Speaker 19: I don't have any obvious names for you. There's just
- 57:59Speaker 19: too many teams that are the race right now, and
- 58:01Speaker 19: to me, there's just not not I have not heard
- 58:04Speaker 19: any big name, like even the Angels, although that may
- 58:07Speaker 19: change with John Moseloc taking over.
- 58:09Speaker 10: But even they, Kurna Manassi was telling people that he
- 58:12Speaker 10: that his owner wasn't going to let.
- 58:14Speaker 19: Him trade Joe Adabt even so, I mean, I don't
- 58:17Speaker 19: know how that's going to play out with the new
- 58:18Speaker 19: leadership with the Angels. You know, perhaps he's a player
- 58:22Speaker 19: that could become available, but right now, with that many
- 58:25Speaker 19: teams in a race and everybody within striking distance, there's
- 58:30Speaker 19: really not that much available.
- 58:32Speaker 7: Having said that, league wide, Trek Scougbel is of course
- 58:35Speaker 7: the tantalizing potential big fish at the trade dead on
- 58:39Speaker 7: because it was thirty two million dollar arbitration award with
- 58:41Speaker 7: the Tigers. If you were the Tigers, GM, would you
- 58:45Speaker 7: ride that out and see if you can get back
- 58:46Speaker 7: in the race or you're on the fringes of it?
- 58:48Speaker 7: Of course, wild Card keeps you in it mathematically all
- 58:50Speaker 7: the way until September, even if your stink, What would
- 58:53Speaker 7: you do with Schooble having him just had elbow surgery
- 58:57Speaker 7: not too what a month and a half ago?
- 59:00Speaker 10: Yeah, so, Greg, great question.
- 59:02Speaker 19: I would have traded him in the offseason. I wouldn't
- 59:04Speaker 19: even gone into the season like that. I would have
- 59:06Speaker 19: gotten the most I could in the off season and
- 59:08Speaker 19: absolutely load up, knowing I wasn't going to be able
- 59:11Speaker 19: to extend him, and knowing that he was going to
- 59:13Speaker 19: leave after this year, and so they decided the other way.
- 59:17Speaker 19: They decided, we'll go get from Ravaldez. We'll try to
- 59:20Speaker 19: get to the postseason less school. Bul Valdez and Casey
- 59:23Speaker 19: may'es try to run the table for us, which, okay,
- 59:26Speaker 19: that's fine.
- 59:26Speaker 4: I get it.
- 59:28Speaker 10: They're not in a good position, but the league get
- 59:30Speaker 10: sets that they could jump into it if they get hot.
- 59:33Speaker 19: What I would be doing right now is a hoping
- 59:35Speaker 19: school bull pitches better than he has since he's come
- 59:38Speaker 19: off the il, which I think he will. The command
- 59:40Speaker 19: and control isn't there. The stuff's there, the strikeouts are there,
- 59:43Speaker 19: but the command putting it where he wants to is not.
- 59:46Speaker 19: But he's given up some runs here in his three starts,
- 59:48Speaker 19: since number one.
- 59:50Speaker 10: I'm gonna get on my.
- 59:51Speaker 19: Hands and knees and pray that he gets hot and
- 59:53Speaker 19: starts pitching like the guy that won the cy Young
- 59:55Speaker 19: the last two years and goes back to that two
- 59:57Speaker 19: yarra instead of the three yarra. I'm gonna pray for
- 59:59Speaker 19: that number two. I'm going to be using this time
- 1:00:02Speaker 19: right now to call all twenty nine teams.
- 1:00:05Speaker 10: And letting them know there's a good possibility if we
- 1:00:07Speaker 10: don't turn.
- 1:00:08Speaker 19: Things around them, I'm gonna be moving Schooble, and I
- 1:00:10Speaker 19: need to know ahead of time exactly what your interest is,
- 1:00:13Speaker 19: what prospects are off limits, what kind of package you'd
- 1:00:17Speaker 19: be willing to trade. And I would be doing all
- 1:00:19Speaker 19: my homework right now, and then I would be ready
- 1:00:22Speaker 19: to pounce the minute I got a trade that I
- 1:00:24Speaker 19: thought would really help me win in twenty seven, twenty
- 1:00:27Speaker 19: eight and beyond. I would not wait, because if you wait,
- 1:00:31Speaker 19: there could be an injury and you.
- 1:00:32Speaker 10: Get nothing for him. I don't want to be.
- 1:00:34Speaker 19: The Angels who three years ago could have traded shoey
- 1:00:37Speaker 19: Otani for junior Cameronaro and decided not to, knowing that
- 1:00:41Speaker 19: they weren't going to be able to resign them. That's
- 1:00:44Speaker 19: a non deal that will haunt that organization for the
- 1:00:46Speaker 19: next decade. Cam and Arrow is gonna end up in
- 1:00:49Speaker 19: the Hall of Fame, and they could have had him
- 1:00:50Speaker 19: for a two month rental. I'm not making that mistake
- 1:00:53Speaker 19: if I'm running the Tigers. So you're going to give
- 1:00:56Speaker 19: me that offer that you want, I'm going to go
- 1:00:59Speaker 19: and my phone is going to be ringing to Brian Cashman,
- 1:01:01Speaker 19: It's going to be ringing to Andrew Freeman. It's going
- 1:01:03Speaker 19: to be ringing to Alexandthopolis and all those other contending
- 1:01:07Speaker 19: teams that would like Schoolble pitching for them in October.
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: Jim Boden, thank you.
- 1:01:11Speaker 7: It's the text line that took comadats text Life four nine,
- 1:01:13Speaker 7: four to five on is blowing up with Can the
- 1:01:15Speaker 7: Mariners hired Jim Bowden right now?
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: He's on point. I know the job's not open, but yeah.
- 1:01:23Speaker 19: You've got You've got great executives there. I'm a big
- 1:01:26Speaker 19: fan of Jerry Depoto and the staff there. So anyway,
- 1:01:29Speaker 19: thanks for having me on, Greg, I really appreciate it
- 1:01:30Speaker 19: and hope you have a great day.
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: Yes, I hope to do it again soon.
- 1:01:32Speaker 7: Jim Bowden, former major League Baseball general manager now with
- 1:01:35Speaker 7: Sirius XM the Athletic.
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: He's a commist for the Athletic. He's also in CBS
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: Sports and.
- 1:01:40Speaker 7: He's saying, I put Kestee in the bullpen, and in fact,
- 1:01:44Speaker 7: Jim Boden told us I'd put him in for short
- 1:01:47Speaker 7: stints like a true reliever, four batters and see what
- 1:01:49Speaker 7: his stuff looks like.
- 1:01:50Speaker 12: Then, Man, it takes a little pressure off. It might
- 1:01:53Speaker 12: be a blow to the eat.
- 1:01:54Speaker 7: It's going to hurt his feelings, and that's what they've
- 1:01:56Speaker 7: been trying to protect.
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: And he's a clubhouse leader, and.
- 1:01:59Speaker 7: There's some there the Mariners are considering that those on
- 1:02:02Speaker 7: the outside don't tangibles.
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: Yes, but.
- 1:02:06Speaker 7: His point, I'm rolling with four in the postseason anyway,
- 1:02:10Speaker 7: And he's right, because you're gonna have a seven game
- 1:02:11Speaker 7: so you're not gonna start five guys in the playoffs.
- 1:02:14Speaker 7: It's certainly not gonna start six. So and you're not
- 1:02:17Speaker 7: gonna piggyback in the playoffs. You're gonna bring in if
- 1:02:20Speaker 7: you have to matchups early in games. We've seen the
- 1:02:22Speaker 7: playoffs here a year or two now, the Mariners. But
- 1:02:25Speaker 7: his point is you're not going to run out of
- 1:02:27Speaker 7: full rotation in the postseason anyway, So let's put him
- 1:02:29Speaker 7: in the bullpen. Now you're gonna have an upset least
- 1:02:32Speaker 7: Cat Steele, but he's twenty one million dollar checks will
- 1:02:34Speaker 7: still clear. So that's an interesting perspective that we haven't
- 1:02:38Speaker 7: really talked about in this market of just doing it
- 1:02:41Speaker 7: now rather than later. And he also says, Yep, Kate
- 1:02:44Speaker 7: Anderson's coming, and you just get your thirteen best horses
- 1:02:46Speaker 7: in you roll. And if Kate Anderson's a spot reliever
- 1:02:50Speaker 7: in situations in September October, so be it. You get
- 1:02:53Speaker 7: your thirteen best dudes, and he's one of them. He
- 1:02:56Speaker 7: also says he'd go get a bat, come hell or
- 1:02:58Speaker 7: high water, he would go at a batt. He also
- 1:03:00Speaker 7: said the Mariners are in competition with the Phillies and
- 1:03:03Speaker 7: others on trying to get that right handed bat that
- 1:03:05Speaker 7: could solve some of their problems against leftanded pitching. If
- 1:03:08Speaker 7: you missed any of that, shame on you. But if
- 1:03:10Speaker 7: you missed any of that, go to the iHeartRadio app
- 1:03:14Speaker 7: ninety three KJR or go to nine three three KJR
- 1:03:17Speaker 7: dot com today where after the show Jessman, we'll download
- 1:03:20Speaker 7: the podcast. You can listen to it at any time
- 1:03:22Speaker 7: on demand. We'll have Jim Bowden back.
- 1:03:25Speaker 12: He's wonderful and very very adamant. He loves doing these
- 1:03:29Speaker 12: hits on radio and everything. I know that he has
- 1:03:33Speaker 12: been a contributor to multiple shows on our station. But
- 1:03:36Speaker 12: today was a perfect day to get that out of him,
- 1:03:38Speaker 12: just considering where we are with the pitching staff, where
- 1:03:41Speaker 12: the Mariners are right now, and where it is with
- 1:03:45Speaker 12: Luis Castillo. Him just flat out do it now. Cut
- 1:03:48Speaker 12: like we're at the band aid off. Put him in
- 1:03:49Speaker 12: there now.
- 1:03:49Speaker 7: It's also interesting to hear him say this is baseball today.
- 1:03:52Speaker 7: The GM meeting is a president meeting with managers and
- 1:03:55Speaker 7: saying you're not using this guy tonight, and the analytics
- 1:03:57Speaker 7: say do this tonight.
- 1:03:58Speaker 4: That everyone does that. It's not just the Mariners.
- 1:04:01Speaker 7: So when you say Dan Wilson's handcuff, a lot of
- 1:04:04Speaker 7: managers apparently are handcuffed.
- 1:04:06Speaker 15: Or it's just the way it is.
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: It's just the way it is.
- 1:04:09Speaker 15: It's a group effort.
- 1:04:10Speaker 7: And he as he said, it was never that way
- 1:04:12Speaker 7: when he was a GM. He was a GM from
- 1:04:14Speaker 7: nineteen ninety two until the late two thousands. Last with
- 1:04:19Speaker 7: the Washington Nationals, and yeah, he said, the game has
- 1:04:22Speaker 7: completely changed since then and since when I was a
- 1:04:24Speaker 7: beat writer as well. But people in this city don't
- 1:04:27Speaker 7: understand that the many of the moves that Dan Wilson
- 1:04:32Speaker 7: makes are not Dan Wilson's moves. We talked about this yesterday.
- 1:04:35Speaker 7: They are Jerry Depoto slash Justin Hollerd, But Jerry Depoto
- 1:04:38Speaker 7: because he's Hollander's boss too, those are Jerry Depoto's moves.
- 1:04:42Speaker 7: The three days, you can't do a reliever three days
- 1:04:44Speaker 7: in a row. A reliever can't start a new ending
- 1:04:47Speaker 7: after finishing one.
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: All of that.
- 1:04:49Speaker 7: Moonyos is only going to pitch the ninth, which is
- 1:04:51Speaker 7: just baffling to me. Pitching when the best hitters are
- 1:04:53Speaker 7: up in the most important part of the game. If
- 1:04:55Speaker 7: that's the seventh, eighth or night four nine, four to
- 1:04:58Speaker 7: five one, you are already some feedback on the Tacoma text
- 1:05:00Speaker 7: line about that. He deferred and said, no, he's not
- 1:05:04Speaker 7: available for the manage GM job.
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: Sorry. Filter.
- 1:05:07Speaker 12: He did compliment the executives that we just have, though,
- 1:05:10Speaker 12: so I think he thinks that we're in good hands,
- 1:05:12Speaker 12: and I trust that man's opinion.
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: He also, who wants to maintain his sources around Major
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: League Baseball and not just burn him up.
- 1:05:19Speaker 12: Greg, allow me to create some grace in this situation.
- 1:05:23Speaker 4: Just telling you how journalism works. That's just it.
- 1:05:25Speaker 7: If he's an insider anywhere anyway, Fournite four five one,
- 1:05:30Speaker 7: talk about that, We talk about the Seahawks. Saley updated Johan,
- 1:05:33Speaker 7: what's the latest with that? The World Cup in the
- 1:05:36Speaker 7: second round the second half of the Round of thirty
- 1:05:39Speaker 7: two match between Norway and Ivory Coast sixty fourth minute.

- 1:05:56Speaker 7: ten until noon before the match at one Your Tech's
- 1:05:59Speaker 7: neck to ninety three point three kJ RFM. Welcome back
- 1:06:23Speaker 7: ninety three point three kJ r F M, Greg Bell
- 1:06:26Speaker 7: and Jesson McIntyre with you as we will be every
- 1:06:28Speaker 7: weekday ten amternoon here live from Elliott Bay and Seattle.
- 1:06:31Speaker 7: Tomorrow will be live from Jimmy's on First across the
- 1:06:34Speaker 7: street from Lumenfield because Belgium and Senegal are playing the
- 1:06:36Speaker 7: round of thirty two match here in Seattle at one
- 1:06:38Speaker 7: pm tomorrow. The United States plays tomorrow at five Bozsi
- 1:06:42Speaker 7: and Herzgovina the opponent down in Santa Clara. The winners
- 1:06:45Speaker 7: of those two matches will play Monday live here on
- 1:06:49Speaker 7: ninety three point three kJ R FM at five o'clock
- 1:06:52Speaker 7: in a round of sixteen. If you missed it earlier,
- 1:06:55Speaker 7: someone on the text line from the three to six
- 1:06:56Speaker 7: oh asking the update on the Seahawks sale is that
- 1:07:00Speaker 7: at their first round of bidding, Bloomberg News said was
- 1:07:03Speaker 7: to end yesterday first round of bidding, implying that they
- 1:07:06Speaker 7: will then play those bids off each other and give
- 1:07:08Speaker 7: everybody else a chance to rebid. There are three known
- 1:07:11Speaker 7: groups out there, and there's a fourth waiting in the
- 1:07:13Speaker 7: wings that we'll see local, local based.
- 1:07:18Speaker 15: That's what I like to hear.
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: We'll see, we'll see.
- 1:07:20Speaker 15: I'm very high in the sky about that situation, and
- 1:07:22Speaker 15: I don't care.
- 1:07:24Speaker 7: Also on the text line four nine four to five one,
- 1:07:27Speaker 7: we you know what time it is because the music
- 1:07:28Speaker 7: says so great. Point on Castilla, the two six says
- 1:07:31Speaker 7: about moving into the bullpen now, if he can't be
- 1:07:34Speaker 7: a receiver reliever, I'm sure that meant he is probably
- 1:07:38Speaker 7: not on the playoff roster anyway.
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: That's true because of what Jim Boden just told us.
- 1:07:42Speaker 7: You're not going with Luis Castillo in the starting rotation
- 1:07:45Speaker 7: for the playoffs. You're going with your best five and
- 1:07:48Speaker 7: your best four in fact in a seven game series,
- 1:07:50Speaker 7: even maybe three in a five game series in the
- 1:07:52Speaker 7: division series.
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: And Castilla is not one of those.
- 1:07:55Speaker 7: And so he can't hack go into the bullpen now
- 1:07:57Speaker 7: or doesn't perform, Well, why would you put him on
- 1:08:00Speaker 7: the playoff right, Well, besides because you're paying twenty one
- 1:08:02Speaker 7: and a half million dollars for him and you have
- 1:08:04Speaker 7: a club option for him for twenty twenty eight. Bowden
- 1:08:07Speaker 7: says he would put him in for four outs, Go
- 1:08:10Speaker 7: get four batters and see what his stuff looks like.
- 1:08:12Speaker 10: Then.
- 1:08:13Speaker 12: Yeah, it's an interesting concept that.
- 1:08:15Speaker 15: I haven't heard. No, no, we tarked a bullpen, but
- 1:08:18Speaker 15: not four outs.
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: Yeah, that's an interesting look at it.
- 1:08:21Speaker 7: But there's a couple of people on the tech slide
- 1:08:25Speaker 7: two O six, how refreshing a former GM that makes
- 1:08:27Speaker 7: more sense in our current one there's no way the
- 1:08:31Speaker 7: two o six, there's no way they would hire Jim
- 1:08:33Speaker 7: Bowden because he's too smart and right on target with
- 1:08:35Speaker 7: what needs to happen.
- 1:08:36Speaker 15: Oh jeez, well, I would just say too.
- 1:08:39Speaker 12: The biggest thing that I heard from him was how
- 1:08:42Speaker 12: passionate he was about this being the year. Oh yeah,
- 1:08:45Speaker 12: that was awesome. I love to hear it, and I
- 1:08:47Speaker 12: hope the fans did too. And that's probably what they're
- 1:08:50Speaker 12: latching too as well, because of how direct he was
- 1:08:53Speaker 12: about go and you throw everything at it, throw everything
- 1:08:57Speaker 12: at it.
- 1:08:57Speaker 4: He said, this is it, this is it. This is
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: your time to win.
- 1:09:00Speaker 15: It's also it. He said, yes, in a.
- 1:09:02Speaker 7: Parody league, with a league that is this bad, with
- 1:09:04Speaker 7: only four winning teams, you're at five hundred and your
- 1:09:07Speaker 7: half game out. This is it, as he put it,
- 1:09:11Speaker 7: you had the best team in the division. You're gonna
- 1:09:13Speaker 7: make the playoffs. Go get it now, and he go
- 1:09:15Speaker 7: get a bat. He says, I'd do anything I could
- 1:09:17Speaker 7: to go get a bat. And he said the Mariners
- 1:09:18Speaker 7: have the roster to go get a bat. We'll see
- 1:09:23Speaker 7: get two five three. Can Jim Bowden be our general
- 1:09:26Speaker 7: manager or manager? He is on point, great show.
- 1:09:30Speaker 15: He is really good.
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I appreciate it.
- 1:09:32Speaker 12: He's really good. Yeah, there's I'd like this. One's great
- 1:09:37Speaker 12: point on Tescu. If we find out he can't be
- 1:09:39Speaker 12: a reliever, he is probably not on our playoff roster anyway.
- 1:09:43Speaker 4: That's right, Yeah, because you're not going to have him
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: as a starter.
- 1:09:46Speaker 15: Yep.
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:09:47Speaker 7: A couple of you at the top of the show
- 1:09:48Speaker 7: asked about Chris Kidd. I mentioned it yesterday at TAPA show.
- 1:09:51Speaker 7: I'll mention it again if you missed it, and probably did.
- 1:09:54Speaker 7: Chris Kidd was my producer for the show I had
- 1:09:56Speaker 7: for nine months starting twenty twenty four, and of course
- 1:09:59Speaker 7: he was again. I came back on the show here
- 1:10:01Speaker 7: this spring. He's no longer employed by iHeart. They said
- 1:10:04Speaker 7: that the Seattle market needed to make a cost saving
- 1:10:08Speaker 7: move and so Chris Kids is no longer working here.
- 1:10:11Speaker 7: Jess when McIntyre has moved from the afternoon show to now.
- 1:10:15Speaker 7: She was on with Ian and Andrews at the noon show.
- 1:10:18Speaker 7: Now she's working with me and I'm honored and blessed
- 1:10:20Speaker 7: to have her in their experience. And Jim Bowden is
- 1:10:22Speaker 7: a friend in the colleague of hers, which is why
- 1:10:24Speaker 7: we got her. Got him because of her. So that's Chris.
- 1:10:28Speaker 7: We wish him all the best. I miss him already,
- 1:10:30Speaker 7: and yeah we had a bit a cool thing go on.
- 1:10:32Speaker 7: But I do miss him. But thank you for asking him.
- 1:10:34Speaker 7: That's where it is. Four two five says I don't
- 1:10:38Speaker 7: have a problem with the training stab. My problem was
- 1:10:40Speaker 7: the manager. They went on.
- 1:10:41Speaker 4: Talent alone should have at least six to eight more
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: wins this year.
- 1:10:44Speaker 7: I don't think anyone would argue with that that they
- 1:10:47Speaker 7: should definitely have at least six and more wins two
- 1:10:50Speaker 7: o six. They need to focus on their job, not
- 1:10:53Speaker 7: Twitter so soft.
- 1:10:54Speaker 12: Oh yeah, that in reference to Justin Hollander talking about
- 1:10:59Speaker 12: lunatic for an fans that are being critical on Twitter
- 1:11:03Speaker 12: and apparently on sports talk radio too, but not us.
- 1:11:07Speaker 15: Not like that.
- 1:11:09Speaker 12: That was in reference to the criticism of the training
- 1:11:12Speaker 12: staff take out about them.
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: That was unprompted, unsolicited, by the way, getting.
- 1:11:17Speaker 15: It started off his thing, By the.
- 1:11:18Speaker 7: Way, I want to defend our training staff. Jeff the
- 1:11:22Speaker 7: three six oh long time listening to the station. The
- 1:11:24Speaker 7: only reason Kirby got to finish the eighth was because
- 1:11:26Speaker 7: the poto had to use the bathroom.
- 1:11:31Speaker 12: That is kind of funny, but this from the three six.
- 1:11:34Speaker 12: Oh I'm sorry, Greg, I didn't get to hear what's
- 1:11:35Speaker 12: going on with the Seahawks sale?
- 1:11:37Speaker 15: Can you briefly cover this?
- 1:11:38Speaker 4: I just I just did at the topic.
- 1:11:40Speaker 7: I'm sorry if you miss it again, like j Justman did.
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: The first bids are due tomorrow.
- 1:11:45Speaker 7: We're due yesterday, according to Bloomberg News, the first round
- 1:11:48Speaker 7: of bids, and that implies that there will be other
- 1:11:50Speaker 7: rounds and then they'll try to play those bids off
- 1:11:54Speaker 7: of each other to raise the sale price. All indications
- 1:11:56Speaker 7: are the sale price is going to be above six
- 1:11:58Speaker 7: point oh five billion.
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: It's that number.
- 1:12:00Speaker 7: That's what the Washington Commanders sold for a few years ago,
- 1:12:03Speaker 7: the highest valuation sale in NFL history. NFL owners want
- 1:12:08Speaker 7: each sale after that to be higher than the one
- 1:12:10Speaker 7: before it, so that their franchise valuations can go up too.
- 1:12:14Speaker 7: With all the money that goes into the NFL, with
- 1:12:16Speaker 7: media rights and merchandising now the international games, it would
- 1:12:20Speaker 7: be poor business sense for franchise valuations to go down
- 1:12:24Speaker 7: year over years. Oh yeah, but especially the Seahawks, who
- 1:12:27Speaker 7: are the Super Bowl champions and one of the only
- 1:12:29Speaker 7: teams within a shouting distance of the Pacific Northwest. I
- 1:12:32Speaker 7: mean the closest franchises are in Denver in San Francisco.
- 1:12:35Speaker 7: So yes, this franchise should be valued top and it is.
- 1:12:39Speaker 7: And I'm told that bidding's going to probably started around
- 1:12:41Speaker 7: eight billion dollars.
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: It could reach ten.
- 1:12:44Speaker 7: That would be a North American market franchise valuation record.
- 1:12:49Speaker 7: The record is ten billion dollars last year with the
- 1:12:51Speaker 7: Los Angeles Lakers.
- 1:12:53Speaker 12: Yeah, it's interesting the way the sale is coming about, too,
- 1:12:55Speaker 12: because other sales have been for other reasons, and then
- 1:13:00Speaker 12: this one is, you know, by the letter of the will,
- 1:13:05Speaker 12: if you will, it's it's Paul Aland's wishes and it's
- 1:13:09Speaker 12: not a bad thing. And going out for a Super
- 1:13:12Speaker 12: Bowl trophy for Jody, I think you couldn't ask for
- 1:13:15Speaker 12: a better ending for her.
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: But that's a good point about the dynamics of the sale.
- 1:13:18Speaker 7: When teams are for sale in sports, it's generally because
- 1:13:21Speaker 7: the owner wants to maximize his property, bought it at
- 1:13:23Speaker 7: a certain price and now he thinks it's the time
- 1:13:25Speaker 7: to sell, or he's personal issues or business issues, or
- 1:13:29Speaker 7: But this is because when Paul Allen died in his will,
- 1:13:34Speaker 7: it was you must sell the Blazers and the Seahawks,
- 1:13:36Speaker 7: and it's taken this many years since his death in
- 1:13:38Speaker 7: twenty eighteen four the lawyers to get around to clearing
- 1:13:42Speaker 7: this part of his estate. That's the gist of what
- 1:13:45Speaker 7: is happening here. This Blazer sold for four billion to
- 1:13:49Speaker 7: Tom Dundan earlier this year, and the Seahawks are gone
- 1:13:53Speaker 7: on sale too, So that's where this all came from,
- 1:13:56Speaker 7: in the genesis of it, the background of it.
- 1:13:58Speaker 15: That's just the least negative sale I've ever heard.
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: Yes and yes, exactly.
- 1:14:04Speaker 7: And there's not a time because of this dynamic, and
- 1:14:07Speaker 7: the owners are only selling because of the will in
- 1:14:09Speaker 7: the estate. Is not a like time crunch where they
- 1:14:11Speaker 7: have to do it by a certain time. The NFL
- 1:14:13Speaker 7: would like it to be done soon, but only so
- 1:14:15Speaker 7: the other owners knew what their franchise valuation or how
- 1:14:18Speaker 7: they've gone up since the Washington Commanders sale. But no,
- 1:14:21Speaker 7: there's not a Jody Allen must sell by September or else.
- 1:14:24Speaker 7: There's not a there's not a stipulation, and the owner
- 1:14:27Speaker 7: is not trying to unload quickly.
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: So that's part of the reason this is dragging out
- 1:14:32Speaker 4: a little bit.
- 1:14:36Speaker 7: Two six, asking about justin Hollander, you heard it from
- 1:14:38Speaker 7: him earlier in the show. Is he frustrated with the
- 1:14:40Speaker 7: fans or his own incompetence. It's an interesting maybe rehetordable.
- 1:14:46Speaker 12: Co people are frustrated right now, you know, and I understand.
- 1:14:50Speaker 15: So we're going to see a lot of that.
- 1:14:53Speaker 12: I do like this one from Keith Miller has Softy
- 1:14:55Speaker 12: put in his bid to buy the Seahawks.
- 1:14:57Speaker 7: Yet the Softy have eight billion dollars laying around. I
- 1:15:00Speaker 7: didn't know that.
- 1:15:01Speaker 12: If he did, I'd be really mad at him for
- 1:15:03Speaker 12: not giving me a little bit.
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: That would be over his house for offers.
- 1:15:08Speaker 7: One thing we would to talk to you about is

- 1:15:47Speaker 7: Greg and Jessmon, Chris Emberrien.
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: You know the whole craze fans about our training staff.
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: That's just a distracts.
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: That's look over here, look at the wonder over here.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: Well you don't talk about what's over there, and what
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: that is is a manager that can't manage can't manage
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: his batting order.
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: It can't manage his pitching staff.
- 1:16:15Speaker 15: Come up thirty seconds or less, Chris.
- 1:16:18Speaker 12: But thank you for Chris. Thank It's not me. It's
- 1:16:22Speaker 12: a little iHeart microphone. Yeah no, yeah, I think we
- 1:16:28Speaker 12: know that the last word was on come.
- 1:16:31Speaker 15: I actually think it's funnier when they cut off.
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: Its pretty funny.
- 1:16:36Speaker 15: Bam they cut your exclamation point. Yeah no, thank you, Chris.
- 1:16:41Speaker 12: We'll get more of these in throughout the shows as
- 1:16:43Speaker 12: we continue to So if you want your voice heard,
- 1:16:46Speaker 12: go for it.
- 1:16:47Speaker 7: Appreciate the love on the text line, many of you
- 1:16:49Speaker 7: writing in that they love you and I together.
- 1:16:51Speaker 4: Jessseman and Army Navies. Just to taste exactly. This is
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: Army Navy in Seattle every day now. But thank you
- 1:16:58Speaker 4: for that. I appreciate that. And the kind this kid
- 1:17:00Speaker 4: as well, you appreciate that.
- 1:17:01Speaker 7: Up next the Mayor and Maple Valley and for Nest,
- 1:17:04Speaker 7: he's lurking somewhere. Actually see him. He's wearing a crack
- 1:17:06Speaker 7: and hoodie. Hepe come in and talk about what's on
- 1:17:08Speaker 7: his show. Next on ninety three point three kJ r
- 1:17:11Speaker 7: F m.
- 1:17:33Speaker 4: Oh, we got a goal. We got a goal.
- 1:17:37Speaker 7: The Court de Diavory had tied the game at one
- 1:17:40Speaker 7: one in the second half.
- 1:17:41Speaker 17: Norway, the team with the got the ponytail. Yeah, where's
- 1:17:44Speaker 17: herling Holland where's he?
- 1:17:46Speaker 7: He's he's in the middle of the field unless they
- 1:17:48Speaker 7: just lifted him for defense because it's a but yes,
- 1:17:53Speaker 7: they scored in the eighty eighth minute. Norway did in
- 1:17:55Speaker 7: Dallas to take a two to one lead on either ball.
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: Guy, all right, good, you're still up there, all right?
- 1:18:07Speaker 4: Win our place at Brazil Sunday in the Meadowlands.
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: Yeah, congrats.
- 1:18:11Speaker 4: Yeah last night. Yeah, oh Paraguay.
- 1:18:16Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:18:17Speaker 4: Now they have to play France.
- 1:18:18Speaker 10: Oh my god.
- 1:18:19Speaker 4: Crazy.
- 1:18:20Speaker 7: So we had the we played earlier justin Hollander, the
- 1:18:25Speaker 7: Mariners general manager, calling the Seattle Mariner fans I say
- 1:18:30Speaker 7: a section of them a lunatic fringe, which I thought
- 1:18:34Speaker 7: was a little bit of an unfair snipe at a
- 1:18:36Speaker 7: franchises fan base that has never ever tasted the World
- 1:18:39Speaker 7: Series in the fifty years of their existence.
- 1:18:42Speaker 4: Could you see that, my Torque families?
- 1:18:45Speaker 17: I think the bigger just mentioned this earlier, and we've
- 1:18:48Speaker 17: talked about this used the word apathy before, you know,
- 1:18:51Speaker 17: I always kind of I come back to that, you know,
- 1:18:55Speaker 17: and I've had listen, I'll be honest, I've had this
- 1:18:57Speaker 17: conversation with Kevin Martinez before a team president, and on
- 1:19:01Speaker 17: a number of occasions that would you rather fans be
- 1:19:06Speaker 17: apathetic or would you rather they be pissed off? Like
- 1:19:11Speaker 17: it's just it's it's the easy answer is you'd want
- 1:19:14Speaker 17: them to be mad, because then they care. I'll give
- 1:19:17Speaker 17: you an example last week when the Todd Liwiki video,
- 1:19:19Speaker 17: when we had that, we played that and I was
- 1:19:23Speaker 17: I wasn't more.
- 1:19:24Speaker 4: I wasn't worried.
- 1:19:25Speaker 17: About what the reaction would be, you know, especially with
- 1:19:28Speaker 17: my name and face on it.
- 1:19:30Speaker 4: That's my job.
- 1:19:30Speaker 17: I don't I don't mind being hell in a sense.
- 1:19:33Speaker 17: I'm justin Holland. I'm going to protect my franchise right
- 1:19:36Speaker 17: and my employer. But I wasn't worried about what the
- 1:19:40Speaker 17: reaction would be in terms of it being negative. I
- 1:19:42Speaker 17: was worried if there would be a reaction, and there was,
- 1:19:45Speaker 17: And I was telling Rich Moore, I was telling our
- 1:19:47Speaker 17: program director, I was, I was, And we looked at it.
- 1:19:50Speaker 17: There was a pop on the two times we played it.
- 1:19:51Speaker 17: There's a lot of people tuning in. They wanted to
- 1:19:53Speaker 17: hear what Todd had to say, and then they were
- 1:19:54Speaker 17: pissed off and disappointed because of what he did say.
- 1:19:56Speaker 4: They thought he should have said more and all that,
- 1:19:58Speaker 4: which is fine.
- 1:19:59Speaker 17: We can debait that and how ludicrous it is to
- 1:20:03Speaker 17: think that a guy is going to give out his
- 1:20:04Speaker 17: trade secrets and how they're doing things. But the fact
- 1:20:09Speaker 17: that people were upset and we had literally as many
- 1:20:12Speaker 17: text as we would have for a big seahawk topic,
- 1:20:15Speaker 17: that's a good sign.
- 1:20:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:20:17Speaker 17: And if you're justin Hollander and your team has, as
- 1:20:19Speaker 17: you said, never been to the World Series, much less
- 1:20:21Speaker 17: won it, you should be happy. There's a quote lunatic fringe.
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: Out there, but there isn't.
- 1:20:27Speaker 17: I don't think it's a lunatic fringe. I, by the way,
- 1:20:29Speaker 17: one of the great songs of all time. But yeah
- 1:20:32Speaker 17: writer from movie Vision Quest, But yeah, I think you know,
- 1:20:37Speaker 17: lunatic fringe tell is more. I take that honestly.
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: As being.
- 1:20:42Speaker 17: Diehards, like people that really care, and that's a good thing,
- 1:20:46Speaker 17: Like you want that, like you. I mean, lunatic fringe
- 1:20:49Speaker 17: is probably more South end zone guy lu midfield like
- 1:20:56Speaker 17: we're in the construction seahawk hat neck tattoo, like lose
- 1:21:00Speaker 17: his mind on every first down. I mean, just that's
- 1:21:02Speaker 17: a good thing. Though you want that. You and I
- 1:21:05Speaker 17: have been to enough NFL stadiums where you don't have that, no, right,
- 1:21:10Speaker 17: and like think about going to a game at so far,
- 1:21:14Speaker 17: I think the Rams are getting better, but man, the
- 1:21:17Speaker 17: first couple of Rams games we went to help remember
- 1:21:19Speaker 17: the first couple of games in LA Coliseum, it was
- 1:21:22Speaker 17: it was a home game for for US, for Seattle
- 1:21:24Speaker 17: and for anybody else playing there.
- 1:21:27Speaker 4: They have to still to this day they have to
- 1:21:29Speaker 4: short the fans in LA.
- 1:21:31Speaker 17: To and then that and think about the Chargers. They've
- 1:21:34Speaker 17: never played a home game in LA and Arizona never
- 1:21:37Speaker 17: has either, you know, right, Like like you want the
- 1:21:41Speaker 17: lunatic fringe.
- 1:21:42Speaker 4: I would think, as Jessman said, he's defending his training staff. Sure,
- 1:21:47Speaker 4: and I get that.
- 1:21:48Speaker 12: Yeah, And we also pointed out that he started out
- 1:21:51Speaker 12: with that. He wasn't asked about it before we get
- 1:21:54Speaker 12: to anything else. He started his dugout session with that,
- 1:21:58Speaker 12: so it was on his mind.
- 1:22:03Speaker 17: Yes, I'm gonna get this little later. But yeah, yeah,
- 1:22:06Speaker 17: there's a lot there. I think it's just I sometimes
- 1:22:09Speaker 17: I appreciate On June thirtieth, Justin Hollander, I appreciate.
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: Him a lot.
- 1:22:13Speaker 17: On June thirty, a month away from the start of
- 1:22:16Speaker 17: training camp for the NFL, I really appreciate it. I
- 1:22:19Speaker 17: know what the show is, what you got, We're gonna
- 1:22:21Speaker 17: We're gonna, well Joe, she's gonna join us our weekly
- 1:22:23Speaker 17: baseball visit with him.
- 1:22:25Speaker 4: Looking forward to that.
- 1:22:26Speaker 17: We'll get into managerial decisions and who and what they
- 1:22:30Speaker 17: are and what's going on, Like you know, the Mets
- 1:22:33Speaker 17: fired a manager, should they have fired a manager? We'll
- 1:22:36Speaker 17: get into that coming up with Joe at at one
- 1:22:38Speaker 17: twenty Today John lund is weekly visited too, and then
- 1:22:41Speaker 17: we'll revisit a little bit of mollywat Monday Yesterday boys
- 1:22:45Speaker 17: were fired up.
- 1:22:45Speaker 4: How did that go? How do you think it will? Okay?
- 1:22:49Speaker 17: I thought, let me think Nathan and Chris and it's
- 1:22:54Speaker 17: a Monday after the MS go two and four for
- 1:22:56Speaker 17: the week in which the final game that they lost
- 1:22:59Speaker 17: was Sunday when they led four to one going into
- 1:23:02Speaker 17: the eighth in George, how do you think it went?
- 1:23:03Speaker 4: Greg?
- 1:23:04Speaker 7: George Kirby shirt took care of those problems with managing bullpen.
- 1:23:07Speaker 7: Just pitch eight innings? Get cool?
- 1:23:09Speaker 4: That Just give me a damn all we needed.
- 1:23:12Speaker 17: We just shorter eighth inning, go complete game first one

- 1:23:23Speaker 4: Are you sure?
- 1:23:24Speaker 10: No?
- 1:23:24Speaker 17: I checked on George as he got to the ballpark, yend,
- 1:23:27Speaker 17: is his arm still attached?
