- 0:00Welcome to Fast Cars, Fast Girls. I'm Abbey Meyer. I'm Sarah Proctor.
- 0:04And we'll be your host this week.
- 0:06Per usual, we've got all kinds of things to talk about. We, of course,
- 0:10had our season finale for IndyCar this past weekend, so we're going to talk about that.
- 0:14There were other races and other things happening, and it seemed to be kind
- 0:18of like the weekend of crashes.
- 0:20We'll talk a little bit about that.
- 0:22Dreyer and Reinbold, our newest full-time IndyCar team for 2027,
- 0:27announced their driver.
- 0:28Couldn't be more excited to talk about that The Pit Crew Performance Award And
- 0:34Rookie of the Year All those things were sorted out And of course the championship,
- 0:39Although that was sorted in Milwaukee It wasn't fully celebrated until this past weekend,
- 0:44And then we had an opal test with the IR-28, so we'll give you our thoughts on that.
- 0:52We've got some Honda news. We've got a new partnership with Parkside Cards and
- 0:57some exciting news as far as that goes.
- 0:59And I think that's about it. Yeah, it was a busy week. It was.
- 1:05So let's get right on into it.
- 1:07Weekend of crashes. Tell us all about it, Sarah. Oh, man.
- 1:10If you saw Laguna Seca, you know that practice and practice was postponed for
- 1:19a little bit due to a crash, a Porsche. Look at it.
- 1:25It's been all over. Trigger warning. It is very violent.
- 1:29Yeah. Crashed. And luckily the driver was okay.
- 1:32Like, was moved to the hospital. And the last I know, he is still in the hospital,
- 1:37but he's awake and alert. Oh, that's wonderful to hear. So, yes.
- 1:40That's great. And then there was another one in China. Oh, my goodness.
- 1:44And the car caught fire and another driver got driver out.
- 1:50Wow. The marshals there didn't get there quick, which I never,
- 1:55like, yeah, talk bad about marshals.
- 1:58But, yeah, that was a little. You know, you never want to see any kind of a
- 2:03delay with the marshals. And, you know, and I don't know the circumstances,
- 2:06so I'm not going to talk bad about anybody.
- 2:09You know and I know you aren't either but I will say I'm glad that because there
- 2:14was a delay for whatever reason that that driver stepped in and helped get the
- 2:18other driver out yes definitely definitely definitely yeah I mean,
- 2:23that's a true sportsman right there like,
- 2:25Yes, you sacrifice your own race to save somebody's life.
- 2:28Like, that's absolutely what
- 2:30you do. I would honestly say that's the drive of the week, in my opinion.
- 2:33Agreed. Move of the week right there is, yeah, being like, hey,
- 2:38you know, my mate over here doesn't have anybody helping him out of this car
- 2:41that's on fire. So let me let me just go ahead and do that. Yes.
- 2:45And then a very surprising crash in the F1 world. And I know we don't talk at
- 2:50F1 a lot, but I still follow it from time to time.
- 2:54Mr. Charles Leclerc decided to crash out. Sure did. And I was like, what the heck?
- 3:00Sure did. Very unusual.
- 3:04Yeah, very uncharacteristic. Yes. Yes, very uncharacteristic.
- 3:08But also, shout out to Antonelli for being awesome at 19 and killing it. Yeah.
- 3:17Winning in his home country. Oh, just makes it even sweeter. Yes. Yes, yes.
- 3:22And at 19, I mean, just way to go. Yes. You still got, the world's your oyster, you know? Yes.
- 3:29Like, you've already accomplished so much and still have so much to go.
- 3:33Yes. I mean, the podium, I mean, him, George Russell, and then Verstappen, I mean. Yeah. Crazy.
- 3:41Yeah. Great drive. Crazy, crazy, crazy.
- 3:44Great drive.
- 3:46Well, Dreyer and Reinbold is who purchased the third charter that RLL dropped. Yep.
- 3:57And to not many people's surprise, they picked hometown hero Connor Daly to
- 4:04be their full-time driver.
- 4:05I couldn't be more excited. Yeah. All right.
- 4:09I know it's kind of controversial. There's like people that really like him
- 4:13being in there. And then there's a lot of people are like, no, Connor.
- 4:17I don't know because they think somebody else should be in there.
- 4:21Connor has proven himself time and time again. Connor has gotten excellent results
- 4:27in some of the shittiest cars in the paddock.
- 4:30He I agree. He has proven himself time and time again. So he's plus I just love the guy. Yeah, I just do.
- 4:38It's yeah. So, I'm excited.
- 4:41They're also changing.
- 4:43When Dreyer and Reinbold ran before, they were a Chevy team,
- 4:46and now it's sounding like it's going to be a Honda team, though. Oh.
- 4:51Yes. Interesting. Very interesting. Yes.
- 4:55Well, either way, I'm buying merch. Chevy, Honda, I'm buying merch regardless.
- 5:00Oh. Well, on into the finale. Well, wait. We also have another person,
- 5:05too, that got signed. Oh, McSchumacher. That's right.
- 5:09That's right. I forgot about that. Mick Schumacher got signed to Meyers Schenck
- 5:13Racing. Yes. Which I think is a great thing.
- 5:17Oh, I think it's awesome. I think that he's going to like it there.
- 5:20I think that he's going to grow there.
- 5:24And Meyers Schenck has a lot of loyalty with their drivers. And they're very
- 5:28invested in growing their racemanship, their race craft, etc.
- 5:36And it's a pseudo-Ganassi car. Mm-hmm. It is. You got that tech partnership.
- 5:41So you've got all that extra data, which is wonderful.
- 5:43Now they are changing Armstrong's number because the 60 is the number reserved
- 5:48for the more senior driver.
- 5:51And so Mick's going the 66.
- 5:56That's what I'm saying. So Marcus Armstrong is going in the 60,
- 5:59and then Mick is going in the 66. But fun fact, both of them were teammates prior. Really? Yep.
- 6:05Back in the Ferrari ladder series back in the day. Oh, that's fun.
- 6:12Aw, back together again. Oh, Ferrari Drivers Academy.
- 6:16I missed my note. Well, that's cool. That'll be nice. Hopefully they already
- 6:20kind of have a good rapport that should make team building a little bit easier.
- 6:25They were also there with Schwartzman as well. So it's kind of a,
- 6:29you know, all three of them have been in IndyCar.
- 6:31They have. But only one was a rapper. That is true.
- 6:34Oh, oh. All right. Anything else I forgot before we move on to Laguna Seca?
- 6:39Nope. We're good for Laguna Seca. All righty.
- 6:42So final race of the year.
- 6:44It was a good race.
- 6:48It was a good race. It was an especially great race for Scott McLaughlin. Yes, he needed that.
- 6:53He did need that, but still a fun race to watch. Yeah, I mean,
- 6:56it wasn't like the most exciting race.
- 7:00No, you weren't on the edge of your seat the whole time, you know.
- 7:05I love Laguna Seca because it's so classic. It's done everything,
- 7:10been everything exciting, you know, Zanardi.
- 7:16And the Herd of Battle and all that good stuff. But I don't know if it needs
- 7:20to be a championship ending race. Oh, girl, I have talked about this ad nauseum,
- 7:27and I'm happy to talk about it some more.
- 7:29I don't think it should be our ending race. Like, it's a great race. Like, I love it.
- 7:34It's one of, like, you have Long Beach and then Laguna Seca. Like, they're great.
- 7:40Why don't we just take, like, a West Coast swing? I know it's hard because Long Beach is always...
- 7:45In the spring. In the spring, but. Laguna Seca is prettier in the spring than
- 7:49it is at this time of year. So, I don't know.
- 7:52It's such a great track.
- 7:55It is, but also part of me feels like it should, the finale should also be at
- 8:01a track that's more centralized so that more fans can go.
- 8:05Well. Because the majority of IndyCar fans are populated in and around the Midwest.
- 8:11And I feel like you'd have a lot more people come to a finale.
- 8:15Well, do we go back to Nashville? But if Nashville goes back to the road course?
- 8:20Well, I don't know. Because that's, I mean, I would call that more south than
- 8:24Midwest. Chicago. Do we bring back Chicago? I would love that.
- 8:27Or do we bring back Homestead, Miami?
- 8:30I mean, that would be. But that's going to be as polarizing as Laguna Seca as
- 8:35far as getting people to come.
- 8:38Honestly, I would say do the Indy road course again.
- 8:42I loved in 2020 when they did, like, the Harvest GP in October. Yeah, but...
- 8:50Well, yep. Very true. Or end in Milwaukee. Yeah. Yeah.
- 8:55But Miami also, if you wanted to, you know, have a big celebration,
- 9:00you're in Miami, the nightlife there.
- 9:03And yeah, I just think that you're not going to get if you're if your goal is
- 9:07to gain fans and make it more accessible, Miami is not going to do that.
- 9:11Start and finish in Florida.
- 9:13Sunshine to sunshine. It's still be cool. Yeah. I don't know.
- 9:16Like, that's the thing. We're not we're not track owners we're just giving our
- 9:20thoughts right or bring back michigan,
- 9:24oh yeah now that i'm on board for and honestly i know it'll never happen but
- 9:29i miss pocono i really enjoyed pocono,
- 9:32i'm neutral that's fair neutral there are definitely some improvements and something
- 9:35some changes that need to be made i have very i have some very strong opinions
- 9:38about that but i did enjoy the track yeah i'm neutral just because yeah fair enough
- 9:44fair enough so all right on to laguna saka so
- 9:48of course our race winner scott mclaughlin won the poll won the race yes and
- 9:52he gets to bring his little daughter a trophy back
- 9:55sure does it was his first race win in 36 races,
- 9:59so he needed that congratulations scott he did need he needed a win he did he
- 10:04definitely did and then in second we had kyle kirkwood kyle kirkwood has really
- 10:09become quite the powerhouse driver i agree yeah.
- 10:14Yeah, and I'm really enjoying watching him grow as a driver. Yeah, no, I, yes.
- 10:21Could he be my next favorite for a 500 winner?
- 10:25Ooh, it's a possibility. Maybe, I know it's Earl, but.
- 10:28But still, I think he's probably got a 500 win in him.
- 10:32Yeah. I could see that. And then Rossi finishing up on the podium. Ooh, about time.
- 10:38Yes, he looked good. I'm very happy to see that. He looked good. Mm-hmm. Yes, he did.
- 10:43Yes, he did. And then Felix finishing out his Meyers Schenck racing career,
- 10:49finishing fourth, just off the podium. Yep, just shy.
- 10:53Yep. Love to see that. And then Dave. Starting fifth, finishing fifth. Yep, Chef Dave.
- 10:59I hope he just doesn't overthink the offseason.
- 11:04I hope so, too. Just, you know, like, just train. Just do your thing.
- 11:08Train. Just do your training. You know, don't get in your head. Yes. Like, it'll come.
- 11:13It'll come. Yes. It'll happen. He's too good of a driver for it not to happen. Like, it's coming.
- 11:19And then in six, we had Christian Lungard. The highest finishing McLaren.
- 11:23Yeah, he was. And his last race at McLaren. Yes, it was.
- 11:28And it's not been officially announced, but it's been heavily speculated that
- 11:33he's going to end up in the nine car at Ganassi.
- 11:36So, which I can't wait to see how he does. I think he'll do stellar. Yeah.
- 11:41So. Seventh, we had Marcus Armstrong. A strong finish for Meyers Schenck,
- 11:45actually. Great finish for Meyers Schenck. Yeah.
- 11:49Two top tens gotta love it and then a nice easy sunday drive for alex polo he
- 11:54just came in eighth hey he,
- 11:56he had the championship wrapped up i mean why go out there and risk tearing
- 12:00up a car you know yep and then we had he doesn't have anything to prove yep
- 12:03and then marcus erickson finishing ninth yeah,
- 12:06which was good not a bad finish for him and then good old kiff finishing 10
- 12:10yeah kiff is just quietly getting better and better,
- 12:14and yes and i mean he's been in the top 10 a couple more than a couple of times
- 12:18this year so that's that's what i'm saying he is consistently just always,
- 12:23right there and i think he's just gonna keep getting better and better yep pato
- 12:27finishing 11th oh yeah he was on my fantasy team yep
- 12:31and then ferruci finishing 12th out just starting from 21st which he got the
- 12:36top mover award for the whole season and i am not surprised by that one bit
- 12:40and then finishing 13th was willpower all right i hope he just,
- 12:45he's got all of his overthinking out of the way in next year. I hope so.
- 12:50I mean. Because he's had some great finishes this year. Yeah,
- 12:53but I want. We need more. I want him to get a win.
- 12:57Yeah, I want more. I want more for Will.
- 12:59I'm with you. Finishing 14th, we had Louis Foster. Yep. And finishing 15th,
- 13:05Joseph Newgarden. A little bit surprised.
- 13:08Yeah, but I feel like we've said that a lot of weeks about him.
- 13:11It's been an interesting season for Joe.
- 13:12Well, maybe next year he'll take the offseason, fix his injury,
- 13:17and come back. Oh, I bet so.
- 13:20I bet so. I think a lot of it probably has to do with that because he was changing
- 13:23which foot he was breaking with, and it's, yeah, been a whole thing.
- 13:26So, yeah. 16th, Renis VK.
- 13:30Which I was really sad. He's done really well. And then to finish 16th, I was like, oh, man.
- 13:36I know. Oh, but that's okay.
- 13:38He's still had a really awesome season. Do you think he should have had the
- 13:42nine car? I would have loved to see that.
- 13:45Absolutely. Because I feel like he does have all the pieces.
- 13:50Because he is great on opals. But he also can do road and street courses.
- 13:55I don't know. Pretty sure, like we said, the rumor is pretty much Lengard's
- 14:00going to the nine. But yeah.
- 14:02But, you know, like VK always says, a fast car is a fast car.
- 14:05So you put the man in a fast car and he's going to have a good result.
- 14:08It doesn't really matter to him what team he's driving for.
- 14:10So, love that confidence. Finishing 17th in his last race at Ganassi was Scott
- 14:16Dixon, which I kind of felt sad. I was like, dang it. I was hoping for like
- 14:21a Scott Dixon come out of nowhere win.
- 14:23I was, this is the first season in the last like 21 or 22 years that Scott Dixon
- 14:30has not had one win. Yeah.
- 14:32So I really wanted his last race to be a win or, yeah.
- 14:36It'll be interesting to see him at McLaren, but, you know, he's,
- 14:40you know, Bruce McLaren was a New Zealander as well.
- 14:43So go in there and, you know, if he rides it out until he retires at McLaren,
- 14:50I would say, hey, pretty good choice. Yeah.
- 14:53Yeah. I mean, definitely not a bad idea.
- 14:56I just hope that McLaren is as loyal to him as they should be. I think so.
- 15:00I don't know. I don't know. I
- 15:01don't always trust them to be super loyal to their drivers. So we'll see.
- 15:05Yeah. I just, yeah, I hope that's not an issue with Scotty. I love Dixie.
- 15:10Finishing 18th, Romain Grosjean. Yep. No here, no there. Just 18th. Yep.
- 15:16Finishing 19th, Graham Rahal. Kind of the same. Yep. Same there,
- 15:20too. But he did get podiums this year, so.
- 15:22He did. He had a pretty good season, honestly. Yep. And he had some flashes
- 15:27of brilliance in races. Finishing 20th, Caio Collette. Yep.
- 15:31Which he had some brilliance. I wish it would have, you know,
- 15:36less crashes, but I see it in him.
- 15:39He just hasn't figured out how to like put it all together at the same time.
- 15:43And then we're close. He's close. Yeah.
- 15:46And then Rasmussen finished 21st, which have you noticed with ECR guys,
- 15:52it's like somebody's up here and then somebody's like way down there.
- 15:56Yeah. They're not close. Yeah.
- 15:59It's interesting. It is very interesting. Yeah, I have noticed that. And then Mish.
- 16:03If they are close, it's because they're both at the bottom, not because they're
- 16:05both at the top, which is also interesting. Yeah.
- 16:09And then Mick finishing 22nd. Womp womp. Yep. Stingray Rob finishing 23rd.
- 16:15Yep. I will shout out that he had a new sponsor, Oikos. Oh. Yeah.
- 16:20And then Nolan finishing 24th at his last ride at McLaren. Yep.
- 16:26Possibly his last IndyCar race. And then Dennis Hauger finishing last,
- 16:31but he's also the Rookie of the Year.
- 16:34He did, in fact, win Rookie of the Year. So unfortunately, that result did not
- 16:39really reflect how good of a season he's had.
- 16:42So yeah, but shout out to the Wolf Pack with Scott Dixon.
- 16:45They won the Pit Crew Performance Award for best pit stops for the whole season.
- 16:51Yep. And then like the championship standings, it was Alex Pillow,
- 16:56then Kirkwood, then Lungard, then Pato.
- 17:00Dave Malukas, Scotty Mack, Marcus Erickson, Joseph Newgarden,
- 17:05and Felix Rosenquist finishing ninth in the championship.
- 17:11And then Renis VK finishing 10th in the championship. Wow. VK finishing 10th
- 17:16in the championship in a Hunkos Hollinger car. Yeah. I mean, that's awesome.
- 17:21That is awesome. I hope that Hunkos keeps him on because he has been very good
- 17:26for them. Yes. I mean, that's a pretty good thing. Well, and then we go back to Christian Lungard.
- 17:33He finished third, and they're saying that. Right? This is what I'm saying about the loyalty, dude.
- 17:38That's what I'm saying. So just picture this.
- 17:41Ganassi will have next year, if it's true, a person finishing first in the championship,
- 17:49somebody finishing third in the championship, and somebody finishing 13th in the championship. Yep.
- 17:55Yes, they will. Everything's coming up, Chips. Yes.
- 18:00It's still very cool. And do you think he's going to knock off Penske as the best team owner?
- 18:07I mean, I think he is always trying. So time will tell because the Penske cars,
- 18:14have had some irregular and inconsistent results, whereas Polo is just the most
- 18:19consistent thing on earth.
- 18:20Yes. If I hadn't looked in the man's eyes myself, I'd say he's a robot.
- 18:26That's how consistent he is.
- 18:28And before we stop talking about Laguna Seca, we do have to say they did name
- 18:34the corkscrew after Alex Zanardi this weekend.
- 18:37They did. It's now the Zanardi corkscrew and they painted Chow Alex on the side. It was perfect.
- 18:44It was perfect. I loved that. Love that. Love that. Love that. Yeah.
- 18:49And you got in Palo's paint scheme with the lightning bolt after Zanardi's car.
- 18:57Yes. Oh, that was great. And they showed the clip of Zanardi,
- 19:01you know, overtaking Herda.
- 19:04Yeah. It was very, very cool. I liked it. I wish the lightning bolt would stay
- 19:08on, but I know. Yeah, they do. It was very cool.
- 19:12All right. Well, speaking of Polo, he drove today and Thursday,
- 19:17and Rossi drove Wednesday around the Oval with the new IR-28.
- 19:22So we've seen the road course test on the car, and now we've seen the Oval test on the new car.
- 19:27And they both seem like they really enjoyed it. So that's a good thing. It is.
- 19:32They didn't go crazy fast today or yesterday. It was right around 218,
- 19:37220, which isn't that hilarious that we say that's not crazy fast.
- 19:41Like, that is crazy fast.
- 19:42Objectively but for you know they weren't they weren't trying to lay down qualifying
- 19:47laps the car is just really
- 19:49really cool like we've talked about in our other podcast the new car is really
- 19:54neat i really like it it's awesome so yeah it's very cool looking yes very cool looking
- 20:01so love that well and no shade to plow or alex but i do hope change up the drivers
- 20:08the next time around. Yeah. Yeah, I agree.
- 20:11And not because I don't think Rossi and Polo are great. It's just give the other,
- 20:17give everybody else a chance to.
- 20:19Yeah. And there are other drivers' opinions who I would like to hear.
- 20:22Yeah. Yeah. Now I'm with you.
- 20:25But there's also probably a method to their madness, and we just don't know
- 20:28that. I'm sure. There's always a method to the madness, always. There is.
- 20:34We're not always privy to it, but I'm sure, yeah, there are reasons that they
- 20:39do things, like how they do them.
- 20:41So, well, let's see. You want to talk about the Honda news? Yes.
- 20:47So, Honda has a new president.
- 20:52President david salters is stepping down or okay and we are now,
- 20:59um yes and now um the new president of,
- 21:03hrc us is kevin helvin foo so that's that's gonna be very cool that is very cool well,

- 23:13And tomorrow is actually the 25th anniversary of 9-11.
- 23:19Which is very crazy to me. It's wild to me that it's been that many years.
- 23:26Super crazy. Yeah. Do you remember where you were? I do.
- 23:29So my story is kind of different. So I was a junior in high school and there
- 23:35were these two days early in the school year,
- 23:38where they would have or maybe it was just one day where the seniors would go
- 23:44downtown to like the city county building.
- 23:47And sit in on a couple, you know, court cases and things and just do stuff like
- 23:52that. It was like a field trip.
- 23:54But the juniors would have different speakers come in to talk about different
- 23:59jobs, professions, vocations, et cetera.
- 24:01And so, and it was usually different people's parents, you know.
- 24:05And so I remember, you know, a guy in my class, Kevin, his dad was an electrician.
- 24:09His dad came in and talked. And, you know, there were all these different people
- 24:12coming in. And so you got a little bit of everything. You know,
- 24:13somebody who was an attorney, you know, and then we had an electrician.
- 24:16And then you had somebody who was a teacher. And so, you know,
- 24:19just a little bit of everything. And you could ask them questions and all this business.
- 24:22So, as everybody recalls, the towers got hit not long after 8 o'clock.
- 24:28However, since we were, the juniors were all sequestered in the library away
- 24:35from the rest of the school, they made the decision to go ahead and not tell us.
- 24:41And so they had all of the speakers who knew what was going on still present
- 24:47in front of us and tell us all about their jobs, etc., etc. Etc.
- 24:51And then right before we broke for lunch, they were like, by the way,
- 24:55this is what happened. It happened three and a half hours ago.
- 25:00Like we were like, what the fuck? What do you mean it happened three and a half hours ago?
- 25:06So the rest of the school knew and we didn't until close to lunchtime,
- 25:10which was just kind of weird.
- 25:13So, yeah. So that's where I was. I was in the seventh grade in Mr.
- 25:18Hill's math class. And we were getting ready to do like state testing at the
- 25:24time because it was in the fall at that time. That was exactly. Yep.
- 25:28And they came over the loudspeaker and they told us that there was an attack.
- 25:34And then I didn't know what had happened. And then I remember going to lunch
- 25:38and wanting to talk to one of my gym teachers. And I said, hey,
- 25:44what happened, Mr. Frank? And he told me and I was like, holy cow.
- 25:48And nobody around me really seemed to understand why I was kind of freaking out um,
- 25:54But I have an aunt who is in journalism, and she had just quit from working
- 26:01at Barron's, but she was always up in the World Trade Center towers,
- 26:05and so she wasn't there, thankfully.
- 26:07Oh, my gosh, she wasn't there. Oh, my gosh. But she lost a lot of people she knew and stuff.
- 26:13But we had gone to New York City six months prior on spring break,
- 26:19and we had actually gone up in the World Trade Center towers.
- 26:22So I was freaking out because I was like uh I've been on that building yeah
- 26:26and it has been eerie feeling eerie feeling and it was just so crazy and then
- 26:33later that day um my dad and I took our dog um.
- 26:38Out for a walk that night and we could usually hear planes and it was totally
- 26:44silent like no jet Trails know nothing in the sky. And it was just eerie.
- 26:49Yeah, that was eerie. So eerie. Yeah, where my mom's house is,
- 26:54it's right under a lot of flight paths. And so we hear planes all the time at
- 27:01her house. And yeah, for a couple days, it was just nothing.
- 27:04And it was so crazy. And then, yeah, it was just wild, wild.
- 27:09And just remember how everything changed after that. So many things changed after that.
- 27:16Well, and we actually, the rest of the school day, I mean, we just had the TVs on in every room.
- 27:21I mean, we just watched the news the rest of the day. Nobody,
- 27:23I mean, I don't think anything was even taught.
- 27:26They never turned it on for us in the middle school, but... Which that kind
- 27:30of makes sense. I mean, yeah.
- 27:32I mean, I was glued to the TV when I got home, but it was just very eerie.
- 27:39If you get a chance to go to the 9-11 Museum in New York City, highly recommend it.
- 27:47I haven't been to the one in Shakespeare, Pennsylvania.
- 27:51I have. My parents went to it, and they said it was very well done and very neat.
- 27:56It is very well done, and it's very moving.
- 28:01One of the coolest parts of it to me, very cool, but also very sad,
- 28:08like tearjerker, is they have one section of the museum there in Pennsylvania on the grounds.
- 28:15And it's got a couple of different phones that you can pick up.
- 28:20And when you pick it up, it plays voicemails that passengers left for their
- 28:25loved ones from the plane. Yeah, those always get me.
- 28:29At this time. Oh. Always. So, yeah. It was, yeah.
- 28:33No, I picked up one, and it was, I mean, it just hit home, because it was somebody
- 28:38calling their sister and,
- 28:41And, you know, saying I love you and like tell, you know, so-and-so,
- 28:46so-and-so, like the, you know, nieces and nephews that aunt so-and-so loves them.
- 28:50And yeah, yeah, no, it got me. I mean, immediately it was, it was very,
- 28:55very moving, but, but definitely worth the trip to go.
- 29:00It's just a crazy day. Just so crazy and feeling so helpless. Oh my gosh. So helpless.
- 29:08And yeah, airports changed forever after that. Yep.
- 29:12We used to walk all the way back to the gate. Yes. To take family to the airport.
- 29:16Yes. And it was fun to take my grandparents to the airport.
- 29:19Yeah, we'd park. We'd all walk in together. It was a whole evening outing.
- 29:25Well, and they had a little observation deck.
- 29:27Yes. And you could go watch all the planes. Yeah. Yes.
- 29:30Yes. I remember that. It was just very, yeah.
- 29:34Which, in retrospect, was never very safe. So that was going to happen once,
- 29:39eventually, one way or another. I always think about this time,
- 29:43all the men and women that we lost and all the brave first responders.
- 29:47I actually, I'm going to say a shout out to Carl Asaro, who is one of the firefighters
- 29:54who passed away that day.
- 29:58His wife, after he passed away,
- 30:01started a scholarship fund in his name for children of first responders.
- 30:08So police, fire, medic, EMTs, and ASPCA.
- 30:14And I actually won a scholarship from the Carl Asaro Foundation,
- 30:21or I don't know if it's a foundation, but from that scholarship fund.
- 30:26So thank you, Carl, for your sacrifice. And thank you, Mrs. Asaro, for...
- 30:30We're starting that scholarship fund. Make sure to keep everybody and their
- 30:34thoughts in Paris tomorrow. So crazy. 25 years. Yeah.
- 30:38Yeah, it is. So, yeah, the 25-year anniversary happens to be the same year as
- 30:43our 250th anniversary of being a country. It's just kind of,
- 30:48yeah, it's a weird dichotomy. Yep.
- 30:50Very weird. Very weird. So, all right. Well, sorry to end kind of on a somber
- 30:54note, but. We felt it was necessary. Yeah.
- 30:58Yep. So, yep.
- 31:01Keep anybody who might still, you know, have lost loved ones,
- 31:04you know, big anniversaries like that are hard for them. So definitely keep
- 31:07them in your thoughts and prayers.
- 31:09Give people a little grace if they were alive when it happened and you weren't.
- 31:14Also, it's the first weekend of NFL football. Heck yeah, it is.
- 31:18Sarah, see, I didn't want us to end on a somber note.
- 31:21I like that. I like it. And you know what else we can talk about?
- 31:24A great Indiana football game last weekend.
- 31:27Oh, they came out. The Hoosier, the bison, came out in an IndyCar. Love it. Yes.
- 31:35Love it. Oh, and something else. Okay. So, Sarah, you're going to come with me next year.
- 31:41I don't know that we've talked about this, but my mom is from Frankfurt, Indiana.
- 31:44The mascots in Frankfurt are the Frankfurt hot dogs. So, like,
- 31:48little wiener dogs. That's their mascot.
- 31:51And they have a hot dog festival every year. And this year, one of the Wienermobiles
- 31:56was there. Oh, that's cool.
- 31:57I know. So we're going next year, if for nothing else than to see the Wienermobile.
- 32:01But also, the hot dog festival is just absolutely ridiculous.
- 32:05I mean, it's ridiculously amazing. So I recommend that. But I would like to
- 32:08say on the college football front, Western Michigan got homered badly.
- 32:15Badly, badly, badly. If you know, you know, with Michigan.
- 32:20So, just like to say that. Sorry not to tick off the Michigan fans, but that was a bad call.
- 32:27That was a bad call. And Ball State was a sacrificial lamb to Ohio State.
- 32:32Oh, God. Yeah, that was, I couldn't even watch that.
- 32:36And my Irish did well, so. They did do well. I was excited about that, too.
- 32:41It's weird. I'm not ready for football. It feels like it's still a little too
- 32:44warm for football because it's still hit 90 degrees this week.
- 32:48And football, I just associate with fall. So, like, I'm ready for some crisper evenings. Yeah.
- 32:55I mean, I'm not ready, ready for them. It's just if it's football,
- 32:58like, it goes in my mind with crisper evenings.
- 33:02It's more hot. Yeah. That's what I meant to say. Yeah. I, yeah.
- 33:06I just, I love the Colts. I trust Carly Ursae.
- 33:09It's just ever, I just, I'm a fan, but I'm very lukewarm.
- 33:14And everybody's like, well, you're not a fan. No, I am. It's just,
- 33:17it's been really tough ever since the Andrew Luck thing. And they're getting
- 33:21there, but it's just. I'm not a Colts fan, so you don't have to justify it to me.
- 33:26I have tried and they broke my heart.
- 33:29They like to build their team around one player and just, you know,
- 33:33I don't know, Build a line that stops your quarterback from getting hit,
- 33:37and maybe they won't get injured all the goddamn time, and then they won't have
- 33:40to leave and retire. Right. I don't know. Just a thought. Yes. Just.
- 33:44I'm hopeful. It's just really hard after that, but it's okay.
- 33:50It is. Well, it's, yeah. I just remember sitting in the St. Louis,
- 33:54St. Louis was back around this time of the year, and hearing that Andrew Luck was retiring from.
- 34:03And I broke it to everybody around us. So it was weird. It was weird.
- 34:07I remember being at that race. Yeah.
- 34:10You and your former podcast host was sitting behind us. I was going to say,
- 34:15I was like, I think you broke the news to me.
- 34:18I was like, we were sitting together, if I recall correctly.
- 34:20Yeah. So, yeah. Yeah. It was crazy. And it, like, traveled all the way down. Yeah.
- 34:27It was wild. Wild. And news spread like wildfire. It was wild.
- 34:30It was wild. I think we just said wildly too many times. And you know what?
- 34:34If somebody had made that a drinking game, they'd be feeling great right now.
- 34:38Yes. I don't know what we're going to do. No IndyCar.
- 34:41It's going to be weird. I know. Although we've got IMSA coming up at IMS next weekend.
- 34:49So not this coming weekend, but next weekend. So there's the IMSA Street Fest
- 34:52on Thursday, Wednesday or Thursday. Hell, I got to look that up now.
- 34:56But yeah, we've got the Street Fest. And then there's all kinds of racing and qualifications.
- 35:01Practices, races all weekend long. The EMSO race itself has been shortened to
- 35:07a street race, but there's a couple other races going on on Friday and Saturday.
- 35:11It'll be a great weekend, and it's a great weekend to bring the kids out.
- 35:13It's a great weekend to hang out on the mounds, bring a chair,
- 35:16bring a cooler, because at IMS, you can still bring in things, just no glass bottles.
- 35:22Ah, so. And no super huge. Nope, it is a 14 by 14 by 18. And the Street Fest starts 5 p.m.
- 35:30On the 17th in Speedway. The 17th, which. Is Thursday. Okay,
- 35:35I was like, is that Thursday? Yeah, it is. Okay, really good.
- 35:39I was like 95% sure, but then I thought if I say Thursday for sure,
- 35:44it's going to be Wednesday.
- 35:45So make sure to check it out. Usually I'm out there with my niece and nephew.
- 35:49So if you see me, come up and say hi to the little Rugrats. They're pretty cute. So, all right.
- 35:54Well, I think that'll do it for this week.
- 35:57You got anything else to add? Nope. Be safe, y'all. Well, that's it. Yeah.
- 36:01That's it for Sarah Proctor. I'm Abby Meyer. And we'll see you at the racetrack.
- 36:05Welcome to Fast Cars, Fast Girls. I'm Abby Meyer. I'm Sarah Proctor.
- 36:09We'll be your hosts tonight.
- 36:10And we've got, as usual, a lot to talk about.
- 36:14Yes, we do. Yes, we do. So we wrapped up the IndyCar season.
- 36:18So we've got to talk about the finale race.
- 36:21It was also like the weekend of crashes at races all over the place.
- 36:25So we're going to talk a little bit about that.
- 36:27We've got a full-time, a new full-time IndyCar team who announced their driver
- 36:33we're going to talk about.
- 36:35We have the Pit Crew Performance Award, Rookie of the Year, our championship winner.
- 36:42We're going to talk about the Oval Test with the IR-28 because that happened today and yesterday.
- 36:47And, of course, Polo winning the championship.
- 36:51And then we've got some Honda news.
- 36:54And we've got an exciting partnership with Parkside Cards that we're going to talk about.
- 36:59So it's going to be a good show. Buckle in. All right. So Weekend of Crashes. Yeah.
- 37:05So trigger warning, if you guys haven't seen the video of the Porsche at Laguna Seca, that was wild.
- 37:14As far as I know, that person is still in the hospital.
- 37:19And then a crazy one in China, car burst into flames and another driver stopped
- 37:25and pulled the driver out and was putting that fire out.
- 37:29Wow, man, that's awesome that that driver stopped to help get them out because
- 37:33like fire moves fast. And that's got to be the scariest feeling to be trapped
- 37:39in a car that's on fire, you know?
- 37:40It was like it made me nervous. Yeah.
- 37:43Oh, I'm sure. After hearing about those two wrecks, it made me nervous for the
- 37:49race, but we were good. Yeah.
- 37:53I'm with you. I'm with you. We were good, though. We were. So were there any
- 37:57other crashes this weekend? Not that I can sing ray, I believe.
- 38:03That's more than enough. A sing ray, I believe. Oh, that's true.
- 38:06Yeah. Yeah. Well, and we did have some people going off in the group a couple times.
- 38:11In the Monza F1 race, Charles Leclerc, which was very surprising.
- 38:16That is true. Yeah. It is surprising, actually.
- 38:20Not a typical move from him. no not at all shout out antonelli for being a beast
- 38:26heck yeah yeah yeah 19 i mean that's that makes it even more impressive yeah
- 38:31well and it was cool because an italian won at monza,
- 38:34it wasn't right it's always cool when that was no i mean you know you can't
- 38:39always have everything you wish for but but it is cool when stuff like that works,
- 38:43out i do always applaud i love when everybody gets to go onto the track and then walk
- 38:49towards the podium it's very me too i love that it's pretty cool but
- 38:53i yeah i absolutely love that all right are you still there i can't hear you
- 38:58sarah i'm hearing something and can you hear me okay yeah i don't know what
- 39:03happened me it was very weird so okay um,
- 39:07i think we were done with well do you want to like just restart or yeah that
- 39:09way you don't have to edit sure yep let me stop this and.
