- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Benn and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with our radio. This is a very special episode. This
- 0:08Speaker 1: is a very, very very special episode. We have Jared
- 0:12Speaker 1: here as a co host. Yes, hello Jared. I love
- 0:15Speaker 1: it when Jared's here. Guys, thank you. Let's get to
- 0:21Speaker 1: the real meat of the podcast. Ashley is here, and
- 0:25Speaker 1: we're here today to celebrate our mothers, the mothers that
- 0:30Speaker 1: we love, the mothers that I think I can speak
- 0:32Speaker 1: on behalf of all of us very quickly here and
- 0:34Speaker 1: say that we've been very lucky to all been gifted
- 0:37Speaker 1: and blessed with mothers that we love, admire and look
- 0:41Speaker 1: up to and that we're very thankful for. And so
- 0:43Speaker 1: today we're just honoring them with this episode. This is
- 0:46Speaker 1: a very special episode for all of us. Especially I
- 0:50Speaker 1: have a whole new appreciation for moms, of course, because
- 0:54Speaker 1: now I am one, and I know how hard of
- 0:57Speaker 1: work it is. Wow it neverse stops. I now understand
- 1:02Speaker 1: why people say it's the hardest job in the world.
- 1:05Speaker 1: We have one child and it's overwhelming. Of course, it
- 1:10Speaker 1: is beautiful and loving and amazing, and I'm obsessed with him.
- 1:14Speaker 1: And look at that facey right there, like it's amazing. Yeah,
- 1:17Speaker 1: I mean we love him more than anything. I mean,
- 1:19Speaker 1: this is about mothers, so you love him more than anything.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I can see that, and it's I posted about it
- 1:26Speaker 1: recently about like me viewing the love you have for
- 1:31Speaker 1: Dawson through my eyes like his father's eyes, you know,
- 1:34Speaker 1: and seeing it's and we talked about it earlier. Not
- 1:37Speaker 1: everybody's you know, lucky enough to have parents in their lives,
- 1:41Speaker 1: to have mothers in their lives, and so to see
- 1:43Speaker 1: the way that you treat Dawson at such a young
- 1:46Speaker 1: age and being new, being such a new mother but
- 1:48Speaker 1: already being such an incredible mother is pretty awesome. And
- 1:52Speaker 1: it's I think, you know, like every parent has that
- 1:56Speaker 1: moment when their child is born. They're like, I don't
- 1:58Speaker 1: know what the hell I'm doing. Everybody thinks that they
- 2:00Speaker 1: don't and like nobody knows what they're doing. Am I
- 2:03Speaker 1: going to be a good parent? And seeing how Ashley, Uh,
- 2:08Speaker 1: it's just instinctually a great parent just because you love it.
- 2:12Speaker 1: But you too, well, this is about mother's Father's day.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Will do this. You can praise the hell out of
- 2:18Speaker 1: me on fathers, but yeah, it's it's not easy though.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I see what Ashley goes through there's a certain thing
- 2:24Speaker 1: that you have with Dawson that I don't have. That's
- 2:26Speaker 1: where Well, it's just it's not he came out of
- 2:29Speaker 1: your stomach, you know, came out of my stomach. Well
- 2:32Speaker 1: I was gonna say he came out of your vagina. Okay,
- 2:35Speaker 1: I don't know how PG. Thirteen we're getting here is
- 2:39Speaker 1: the vagina Pg. Thirteen, PG. I think that this is
- 2:42Speaker 1: probably in this circumstance, it's PG. Yeah, it's it's just
- 2:46Speaker 1: it's biology. Guys. Well, um, we do have a big
- 2:50Speaker 1: episode in front of us. I want to take a
- 2:52Speaker 1: second here and give a shout out to Pandora Jewelry.
- 2:55Speaker 1: You know, we can talk and share and praise our
- 2:58Speaker 1: mothers and praise all the mothers out there listening, and
- 3:02Speaker 1: all the future mothers out there, and all the people
- 3:04Speaker 1: that hope to be mothers or that are, um let's
- 3:08Speaker 1: call them mentors and guiders and um maybe their next
- 3:12Speaker 1: door neighbors live, or their nieces and nephews lives. There's
- 3:16Speaker 1: so many people out there, um, who have a huge
- 3:19Speaker 1: impact on the kids of this world, and we can
- 3:22Speaker 1: we can praise them with words, but it's oftentimes UM
- 3:26Speaker 1: really special when you do something intentional like get them
- 3:29Speaker 1: a gift. And Pandora Jewelry recognizes that and that's why
- 3:33Speaker 1: they're sponsoring this episode today to highlight people that are
- 3:36Speaker 1: mothers on this very special day and we want to
- 3:39Speaker 1: thank them for doing that. We want to thank them
- 3:42Speaker 1: for the gifts that were sent for our mothers. Uh.
- 3:45Speaker 1: It helps us show some extra love on this day
- 3:48Speaker 1: as well. Thank you, because I didn't anything for my mom. Yeah,
- 3:53Speaker 1: I mean I did, now, thank you Pandora. Um, you
- 3:56Speaker 1: don't tell her that. We're just gonna tell her that
- 3:58Speaker 1: you got her something very special. Um. Right, Hey, let's
- 4:01Speaker 1: take a break here. When we come back, we're gonna
- 4:03Speaker 1: start bringing in our moms to this podcast. Before we
- 4:18Speaker 1: do get our moms on, I just wanted to say
- 4:20Speaker 1: a couple of things. It's gonna be so it's gonna
- 4:23Speaker 1: seem really weird and random, but I feel like you
- 4:25Speaker 1: would totally be thinking the same thing. I never, like
- 4:29Speaker 1: when I worried about my family and stuff, but like
- 4:32Speaker 1: I was away, you know, I always like worried about
- 4:34Speaker 1: my family, but I never worried about like how I am,
- 4:36Speaker 1: like my safety or my health or your parents think
- 4:41Speaker 1: about your safety. Yeah, but I think about me being
- 4:45Speaker 1: like safe and healthy for him so that he has me. Yeah,
- 4:49Speaker 1: I agree, right. I never used to be concerned about myself.
- 4:52Speaker 1: I was always concerned about like me having my family,
- 4:55Speaker 1: but like not me like my own well being. But
- 4:58Speaker 1: now I actually worry about my well being because it
- 5:00Speaker 1: has to do with his. Yeah. And then I also
- 5:03Speaker 1: just want to say that we're thinking about like all
- 5:06Speaker 1: the people out there that want to be moms, that
- 5:09Speaker 1: can't be moms or having trouble being moms. We under
- 5:13Speaker 1: you know, we understand just like how emotional that is,
- 5:16Speaker 1: especially on days like today. Okay, I think Ben's mom
- 5:22Speaker 1: is coming in first if um, yeah, so like what
- 5:25Speaker 1: are we gonna do what we can to talk about
- 5:26Speaker 1: guys with the mom? Should we like have the person
- 5:28Speaker 1: whose mom it's not asked that other mom questions? Like
- 5:33Speaker 1: I think that's fantastic, So Jared and I should ask
- 5:37Speaker 1: Ben's mom questions. Okay, without further ado, here is Amy Higgins,
- 5:42Speaker 1: the mother of me, who I love so much. I
- 5:46Speaker 1: love my mother so much, not myself so much, but
- 5:47Speaker 1: I love her. She's coming on right now. Hi. Congratulations
- 5:51Speaker 1: to you too, Thank you. I wish we can show
- 5:55Speaker 1: you him right now. He's so asleep in his swea.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Do we look like new parents? You have the same disheveled,
- 6:01Speaker 1: tired you look at all. Oh yeah, but you've also
- 6:06Speaker 1: been battling your little not feeling so well. So all
- 6:11Speaker 1: of that on top of each other. It's been a
- 6:15Speaker 1: little trifector. But anyway, let's not talk about us about you. Well,
- 6:19Speaker 1: first of all, how are you? I'm great Mother's Day?
- 6:23Speaker 1: Thank you so much, I thank you. I got an
- 6:30Speaker 1: urgent question, dared, all right, I got one of you, Amy.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Your son was coined as the perfect bet? How does
- 6:38Speaker 1: that feel raising somebody that was in the pop culture
- 6:43Speaker 1: sphere referred to as perfect? And like, what did you
- 6:48Speaker 1: do right? What did you do so right to create
- 6:51Speaker 1: that human? Uh? Well, you know every mom thinks their
- 6:56Speaker 1: child is perfect, So yeah, in some senses, it's spot on. Um.
- 7:02Speaker 1: I think having one helped too. I he got my
- 7:06Speaker 1: all of my attention, which I don't know if he
- 7:08Speaker 1: found that to be necessarily the best, but um, and
- 7:14Speaker 1: he's also just a great kid. You know. He was
- 7:18Speaker 1: the kind of kid like he was the person today.
- 7:19Speaker 1: He was always so inquisitive and and asked a lot
- 7:22Speaker 1: of great questions and just wanted to know a lot
- 7:25Speaker 1: need a lot of people, so you need it pretty
- 7:28Speaker 1: easy to to raise a pretty solid kid. What's the
- 7:34Speaker 1: what's the most embarrassing thing Ben has ever done? Oh,
- 7:38Speaker 1: the most embarrassing, like the worst thing he's done. If
- 7:41Speaker 1: you can't think of something that's embarrassing, like we're one
- 7:44Speaker 1: time he got big trouble when he wasn't perfect. I
- 7:51Speaker 1: think probably, even though I didn't get to witness it,
- 7:54Speaker 1: I think one of the most embarrassing things maybe for him,
- 7:56Speaker 1: and that one of the funniest things for me to
- 7:58Speaker 1: hear is the story is when is that the y
- 8:01Speaker 1: And he was on a treadmill and and uh, I
- 8:05Speaker 1: was running along and I don't know, got caught in
- 8:07Speaker 1: the treadmill and like a cartoon characting right lifting right
- 8:11Speaker 1: off the back end of it right there. Oh wait
- 8:14Speaker 1: a minute, you fell the treadmill and then you then
- 8:17Speaker 1: you fell in the wall. And here's the best part.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I had a Higgins basketball jersey on, so that Higgins
- 8:23Speaker 1: was on the back of the back of my shirt,
- 8:25Speaker 1: so everybody knew who it was. There was no hiding.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I actually thought, um, she was gonna say that, you
- 8:32Speaker 1: know my very and this is actually sad and it
- 8:35Speaker 1: all worked out. But my very first car accident was
- 8:38Speaker 1: sixteen years old. First it's actually I think my only one.
- 8:42Speaker 1: I've never been in another. Cross my fingers, knock on wood. Um,
- 8:47Speaker 1: I was with my buddies early in the morning. We
- 8:49Speaker 1: were heading to like McDonald's or something to get um breakfast,
- 8:54Speaker 1: and I was distracted and I rear ended um a
- 8:59Speaker 1: lady pulling to the y m c A. That's why
- 9:01Speaker 1: I thought she was gonna say this. This is probably
- 9:02Speaker 1: the most trouble I should have gotten in. But I
- 9:05Speaker 1: think I was felt so bad myself that the lesson
- 9:07Speaker 1: was already learned. So that's not the end of the story. Um.
- 9:11Speaker 1: What happened was she unford like she was on her
- 9:15Speaker 1: way to the hospital to have her child. And so
- 9:17Speaker 1: this is a really scary moment for us. Everybody was healthy,
- 9:19Speaker 1: everybody was good. But you can imagine how much guilt
- 9:22Speaker 1: I felt in that moment, and how much like fear
- 9:24Speaker 1: I had in that moment. She was in labor and
- 9:27Speaker 1: you hit her, well, she was in labor. I mean,
- 9:30Speaker 1: I don't know. She was picking up her mom at
- 9:31Speaker 1: the why to bring her to the hospital. She was pregnant,
- 9:35Speaker 1: you rear ended her, then she went into labor. Yeah,
- 9:38Speaker 1: so super scary moment for so many people. Like as
- 9:41Speaker 1: a teenager, you're really scared. You're like, you know, you've
- 9:44Speaker 1: learned your lesson already on being distracted, Like that's not
- 9:47Speaker 1: a thing I'm gonna do again. But here's where the
- 9:49Speaker 1: story maybe gets like embarrassing for me. Um The cops come, uh,
- 9:54Speaker 1: you know, they're questioning me, like what how this happened?
- 9:57Speaker 1: And I'm telling them and they're like, okay, um, we
- 9:59Speaker 1: need to serve your car, and I'm like okay, And
- 10:03Speaker 1: they poppleed my trunk and the night before, my buddies
- 10:06Speaker 1: and I had gone out teeping, and so there was
- 10:08Speaker 1: like a hundred rolls of toilet paper like bounding out
- 10:12Speaker 1: of my trunk when they opened it up. Um. So
- 10:15Speaker 1: the most Indiana thing I've ever heard about. Yeah, so
- 10:22Speaker 1: that's what I thought she was gonna say. I'm sure
- 10:24Speaker 1: she was hesitant this year too much, um, But that
- 10:27Speaker 1: was that was what comes to mind for me, is
- 10:30Speaker 1: where I think everybody was the most disappointed in me.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Um Amy, what's the best age for Like, you know
- 10:39Speaker 1: a lot of people say what's the worst age? I'm curious.
- 10:41Speaker 1: You know, you've you you have a wonderful son. Uh
- 10:45Speaker 1: he's in his uh early thirties. Now, Uh, what do
- 10:49Speaker 1: you think the best age? Because I'm curious. You know,
- 10:52Speaker 1: we have Dawson right now. He's credible as as a
- 10:54Speaker 1: as a baby. I'm curious with you know, hopefully, knock
- 10:57Speaker 1: on wood, we're all healthy and you know, alive in
- 11:01Speaker 1: twenty five years when he's an adult, and I'm curious,
- 11:03Speaker 1: like how much the relationship is going to change. Um,
- 11:07Speaker 1: I really feel like for me, even though it kind
- 11:10Speaker 1: of was some of the hardest too, but some of
- 11:12Speaker 1: the best. I really liked the sixth grade through freshman
- 11:19Speaker 1: year um age. You know, he was growing so fast,
- 11:24Speaker 1: there was so many things to be involved in. He
- 11:27Speaker 1: was really enjoying kind of his independence. Um. We did
- 11:34Speaker 1: a lot of really cool things together as a family, uh,
- 11:38Speaker 1: you know, with vacations and sports, and you know, it
- 11:41Speaker 1: was it was just to me that was a really
- 11:45Speaker 1: kind of really alive and fun time he started to
- 11:48Speaker 1: really see the person that it was evolving and been. Um,
- 11:56Speaker 1: even though I seriously am loving the adult man stage. Um,
- 12:04Speaker 1: it's kind of a weird thing. At time of being
- 12:07Speaker 1: a mom too, and then I just had this kind
- 12:09Speaker 1: of really cool conversation about that much long ago. But
- 12:13Speaker 1: I would say the most fun time was for me
- 12:16Speaker 1: the like sixth grade through freshman year. That's when my
- 12:20Speaker 1: dad started really appreciating having us around. I think it's
- 12:24Speaker 1: probably because you can start having adult conversations with the kids,
- 12:28Speaker 1: but at the same time, there's still kids enough where
- 12:31Speaker 1: you don't have to worry about the making stupid teenager mistakes. Sure, yeah,
- 12:35Speaker 1: I agree. I guess my last question for you is,
- 12:40Speaker 1: as a fantastic mother who has raised the perfect Ben,
- 12:44Speaker 1: what are some tips that you have for Jared and
- 12:47Speaker 1: I in parenting Dawson that maybe isn't stereotypical, like the
- 12:51Speaker 1: things we wouldn't really think about. Um, well, I feel like, uh,
- 12:57Speaker 1: maybe it happened on accident, but I also feel like
- 13:01Speaker 1: it was a good thing. Um from the time that
- 13:04Speaker 1: Ben was a toddler all the way up through today,
- 13:09Speaker 1: I feel like, and you can ask him to verify this,
- 13:11Speaker 1: but I really felt like I was pretty good about
- 13:15Speaker 1: giving been the opportunity to make decisions for himself. Um,
- 13:20Speaker 1: you know, right down to just you know what, stupid
- 13:23Speaker 1: T shirt he put on a combination closed or what
- 13:27Speaker 1: breakfast serially picked, you know. Um, and some of it
- 13:32Speaker 1: was not always great, you know, but I I don't
- 13:37Speaker 1: think I was ever much of a helicopter mom or
- 13:41Speaker 1: two two opinionated and when he decided to make choices,
- 13:49Speaker 1: you know, unless it was just going to be really damaging.
- 13:52Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know, uh, but I really feel
- 13:54Speaker 1: like that is one of the best things you can
- 13:58Speaker 1: do for your kids. I did not grow up really
- 14:01Speaker 1: feeling like I and it was kind of just the
- 14:04Speaker 1: time of the era that I grew up in. I
- 14:07Speaker 1: didn't make or even have the opportunity to make many
- 14:10Speaker 1: decisions on my own. It was there was a lot
- 14:12Speaker 1: of expectations or things were just pretty nor there was
- 14:16Speaker 1: a lot of norms to that. But I think now
- 14:19Speaker 1: it's just really really good to develop in your children
- 14:25Speaker 1: the ability to just make voices for themselves. I just
- 14:27Speaker 1: want to briefly follow up on that, because that's the
- 14:29Speaker 1: type of parent that I think both Ashley and I
- 14:31Speaker 1: want to be. I think one thing that concerns me
- 14:35Speaker 1: is how are we going to, like really in the moment,
- 14:40Speaker 1: do it, like let Dawson make his own decision, even
- 14:44Speaker 1: though we know it might not be the best decision,
- 14:46Speaker 1: if that makes sense, because we love them so much, Like,
- 14:48Speaker 1: of course we want to be the parents that like, yeah,
- 14:50Speaker 1: go go to the playground, come back at six, dinners
- 14:53Speaker 1: at six, like you know what I mean. I'm just
- 14:56Speaker 1: say now he's allowed to do that. He is allowed
- 14:59Speaker 1: to choose the breakfast a serial he wants, or a
- 15:01Speaker 1: stupid outfit. Well, we'll find that out. Yeah, there's I'm
- 15:07Speaker 1: sure there's also, like you know, more serious decisions that
- 15:12Speaker 1: Amy's getting at. Well, Jared and I are really concerned
- 15:14Speaker 1: because we were both like very well behaved kids by nature.
- 15:18Speaker 1: I'm not sure if his nature or sure. All I
- 15:19Speaker 1: know is my sister and I are totally different when
- 15:22Speaker 1: it comes to our young adulthood and the decisions that
- 15:25Speaker 1: we made. So in my case, I feel like it
- 15:28Speaker 1: might be nature. Jared, just like they're both of us
- 15:31Speaker 1: just really good kids, like the kids that you like,
- 15:34Speaker 1: wish that you'd have. And I get scared that we're
- 15:36Speaker 1: going to have a rebel child and don't know how
- 15:39Speaker 1: to deal with that. How did you? How are you
- 15:41Speaker 1: able to come to that point where like, even though
- 15:43Speaker 1: I love you more than anything, and I want you
- 15:45Speaker 1: to make what I think is the right decision. I'm
- 15:47Speaker 1: going to let you decide on your own and then
- 15:49Speaker 1: you know, live with you the consequences or the positive ramifications. Well,
- 15:53Speaker 1: I think, Um, a lot of it just comes through practice.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Like you know, you start that says when they're young,
- 16:01Speaker 1: and so as they get older, you know, it gets
- 16:04Speaker 1: a little easier also too, I really feel like, UM,
- 16:08Speaker 1: I hope that then always felt like if he made it,
- 16:12Speaker 1: ever was making a decision or in a situation where
- 16:15Speaker 1: he wasn't in a good place or there was an issue,
- 16:20Speaker 1: that he felt like it was safe for him to
- 16:23Speaker 1: call home. Okay, Jared free parents and my parents definitely
- 16:28Speaker 1: did the same thing. I think Jared's especially not that
- 16:32Speaker 1: he always did. But I think you also have to
- 16:36Speaker 1: make it very comfortable for your children. Are very there
- 16:41Speaker 1: must needs to be a real security and them knowing
- 16:43Speaker 1: that if they ever made that phone call, it was
- 16:46Speaker 1: safe for them to do that. I think she's I
- 16:50Speaker 1: was actually thinking about this. There's many things. There's many things, um,
- 16:56Speaker 1: obviously that we've talked about a hundred times on here. Um. Actually,
- 17:02Speaker 1: you and I especially on what we love and appreciate
- 17:05Speaker 1: admire about our parents so that you could go on
- 17:07Speaker 1: and on. But I think I was like, what's the
- 17:08Speaker 1: one unique thing it's funny to you ask that question
- 17:11Speaker 1: that my parents did and we did just talk about
- 17:13Speaker 1: it was I never I think there's a level of
- 17:16Speaker 1: respect to it that I felt. But I I had
- 17:19Speaker 1: the ability to question, like, why are you telling me
- 17:22Speaker 1: to clean my room three times in one week? Is
- 17:25Speaker 1: it not my fault that my room's dirty and that
- 17:27Speaker 1: I want to live in filth? And they would say yeah,
- 17:30Speaker 1: but and we would have a conversation that was very
- 17:33Speaker 1: open um and I never felt like I couldn't ask
- 17:36Speaker 1: a question. I never felt like my questions needed to
- 17:39Speaker 1: become arguments because I felt like, hey, I've already been
- 17:42Speaker 1: given the respect to ask a question. There's no reason
- 17:45Speaker 1: to like jump on them for every decision that they
- 17:48Speaker 1: tell me to make. And so I do. I think
- 17:50Speaker 1: what the thing my parents did was they implemented a
- 17:52Speaker 1: sense of curiosity in this world and me that I
- 17:56Speaker 1: greatly appreciate. Um, I don't think it was easy. It's
- 17:59Speaker 1: not easy for your kid to like go out and
- 18:01Speaker 1: hang out with the wrong people and you know, go
- 18:04Speaker 1: out on a Saturday night and they don't really know
- 18:05Speaker 1: where you're going, but like then I would always have
- 18:07Speaker 1: the ability to tell them and talk to him about it,
- 18:10Speaker 1: or like be like, hey, the last night was weird.
- 18:12Speaker 1: I ran into some odd stuff. Let's talk about it.
- 18:14Speaker 1: So just that openness is something that um, I think
- 18:18Speaker 1: was not easy, but it was really healthy and I
- 18:20Speaker 1: think it's been even healthier as I've gotten older. Yeah, well, mother,
- 18:26Speaker 1: I love you a ton. Thank you so much for
- 18:29Speaker 1: coming on. Happy Mother's Day again. Enjoy Florida. You look
- 18:33Speaker 1: really tan, soaking in. I love you. Thanks for coming on.
- 18:37Speaker 1: It's my pleasure. It's all right. Well, it's my mom's turn,
- 18:44Speaker 1: and she's been dreading this because she has some serious
- 18:47Speaker 1: stage fright, even though she's just really talking to you too.
- 18:51Speaker 1: And Jared is her son in law. And Ben my
- 18:55Speaker 1: mom has said before she feels very comfortable with you.
- 18:58Speaker 1: There's something about you that puts her at ease. I
- 19:00Speaker 1: love your mom. I don't know why she's nervous. Maybe
- 19:03Speaker 1: we should make you're nervous. Let's make your nervous. Well,
- 19:06Speaker 1: you should be looking in yourself. I'm her son in law. Okay,
- 19:09Speaker 1: So I'm going to do the opposite of making her nervous.
- 19:11Speaker 1: So Ben, this is all on you to ask the
- 19:13Speaker 1: tough questions. I'm literally gonna be like, hey, Audrey's great.
- 19:19Speaker 1: There she is. Welcome to the podcast. Mom so happy
- 19:22Speaker 1: to be here. Yes, I know you're absolutely thrilled. All right, Well,
- 19:27Speaker 1: we're doing this thing where we're gonna let the other
- 19:30Speaker 1: two interview the mom who's not ours. So these two
- 19:34Speaker 1: are going to be asking the questions. Yeah, and and
- 19:36Speaker 1: you're kind of I mean, you are Jared's mother now,
- 19:39Speaker 1: like your mother in law, and so I'm I'm gonna
- 19:43Speaker 1: guide us through this. Jared's gonna chime in with some
- 19:45Speaker 1: great questions about Ashley that I'm sure he's asked you
- 19:47Speaker 1: to do for or if he hasn't, now is the
- 19:49Speaker 1: time to do it. But again, thank you for joining us.
- 19:53Speaker 1: You're always great. I'm happy you're here. Thanks man to
- 19:59Speaker 1: look for young. By the way, my mom was very young.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Well she's very tan right now, so she has that
- 20:05Speaker 1: going for It's a it's a very special day for
- 20:09Speaker 1: us because as you know, I don't think there's ever
- 20:12Speaker 1: a question in your mind. And and I want you
- 20:14Speaker 1: to respond to this with your thoughts. But I guess
- 20:17Speaker 1: i'll phrase in a question. How big of a gift
- 20:20Speaker 1: is it, Audrey, for you to know just how much
- 20:23Speaker 1: you're loved by your daughters like that you don't doubt
- 20:28Speaker 1: their love for you. Wow. Okay, Well, um, we have
- 20:35Speaker 1: a really good relationship. We're very close and I'm very
- 20:39Speaker 1: blessed that we are, you know, a very close family.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I didn't have that growing up. So I think that
- 20:46Speaker 1: you know, either you repeat right or you go the
- 20:49Speaker 1: opposite way. Either you act like you know, you do
- 20:53Speaker 1: exactly the way that you were raised with your children,
- 20:57Speaker 1: or you decide, you know, we're gonna make some changes.
- 21:01Speaker 1: So I think that that's probably why I spoil them.
- 21:06Speaker 1: And I'm the mother that I am because you know,
- 21:09Speaker 1: I didn't have all that growing up. What what are
- 21:13Speaker 1: the things that you do that you chose to do, um,
- 21:17Speaker 1: maybe differently or that you just chose to do so
- 21:19Speaker 1: that that relationship was always there, um with your with
- 21:24Speaker 1: your daughters. I think we spent a lot of time together,
- 21:28Speaker 1: you know. Um, well right now, you know, living in
- 21:33Speaker 1: Rhode Island. Um, it's hard because they're they're not living
- 21:39Speaker 1: in this area. But you know we talk once through
- 21:42Speaker 1: twice a day text. Um, you know, twice a day dirts,
- 21:54Speaker 1: like your mom's calling, am I get. I get to
- 22:00Speaker 1: elaborate a little bit more on examples for my mom,
- 22:02Speaker 1: because my mom, you know, she gets stayed right. There's
- 22:05Speaker 1: just like a few things I'm thinking, Like when I
- 22:08Speaker 1: was younger, we'd go home, should be home, We'd watch
- 22:13Speaker 1: Dr Philip Oprah together, We'd probably learned lessons from that.
- 22:18Speaker 1: We would eat dinner together, and then we'd like always
- 22:22Speaker 1: have little outings like how many times do we go
- 22:24Speaker 1: with them all? Like those are like little bonding things
- 22:27Speaker 1: all the time. We always were doing things with my mom.
- 22:31Speaker 1: I never wanted to I but also like there's something
- 22:33Speaker 1: in me like I always wanted to be with my mom.
- 22:36Speaker 1: I was never embarrassed by being with my parents. Like
- 22:38Speaker 1: on field trips, when everybody wanted to say at the
- 22:40Speaker 1: back of the bus with their friends would be cool,
- 22:42Speaker 1: I was like it didn't even think that seemed weird
- 22:45Speaker 1: to me. I was like, no, I'd rather send in
- 22:46Speaker 1: the front of my mom. Yeah, Ashley always says that
- 22:49Speaker 1: Lauren is her best friend, but I would also say
- 22:51Speaker 1: that Audrey, you are her best friend as well as
- 22:55Speaker 1: three of you. Also don't like the thought of a
- 22:58Speaker 1: parent being a friend. It's different when you're thirty four.
- 23:02Speaker 1: You know, I would say if at as sweet as it,
- 23:06Speaker 1: we always say, Audrey, you know this that it's like, hey,
- 23:09Speaker 1: we we want Dawson is our son. He's not gonna
- 23:12Speaker 1: be our friend, you know, because we want to be
- 23:14Speaker 1: able to raise him. And yeah, but of course, yeah,
- 23:18Speaker 1: your mom is your best friend your thirty four you know,
- 23:20Speaker 1: I always had a problem with that when people said, oh,
- 23:23Speaker 1: my mom is my best friend. It's like, that's your
- 23:26Speaker 1: mom and your parents saying it's like you know now
- 23:30Speaker 1: that she's three four, Yeah, it's different. Changes, yes, of
- 23:34Speaker 1: course and for the best. So, Audrey, I want to
- 23:37Speaker 1: get to the brass tacks of things. Who do you
- 23:39Speaker 1: love more? Laura rashly, let's get real, Okay, they'll beating
- 23:43Speaker 1: around the bush anymore. Sophie's choice. It would be impossible.
- 23:49Speaker 1: There's so many it's it's it's it's great seeing you
- 23:51Speaker 1: interact with Lauren and Ashley because you you do well.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Of course, because you and Lauren are, while very similar,
- 23:59Speaker 1: also you guys are very different in a lot of
- 24:02Speaker 1: different ways, and so the way your mom interacts with
- 24:04Speaker 1: you is different than the way your mom interacts with Lauren,
- 24:07Speaker 1: But I can see how you. Um, it's not like
- 24:11Speaker 1: for better or for worse, it's just different. You love
- 24:13Speaker 1: both aspects of different personalities, so I kind of like
- 24:18Speaker 1: adapt to each personality, you know what I mean. But
- 24:22Speaker 1: we have the grandson now, so you love her more now. Right,
- 24:26Speaker 1: we've completed everything and that's she wanted. We got married,
- 24:30Speaker 1: I had a baby. It's all good. But now it's
- 24:35Speaker 1: all about Austin. Yeah, what's it like to be a grandma? Now? Fabulous?
- 24:40Speaker 1: It's like changes the whole dynamic of the family. Right,
- 24:44Speaker 1: It's just she used to be you know, high, which
- 24:47Speaker 1: do today? Now it's like, show me the baby. By
- 24:51Speaker 1: the way, Audrey, I don't know if you can hear.
- 24:52Speaker 1: If you can hear Nancy, uh, just snickering in the background.
- 24:57Speaker 1: You know, this is fantastic. I love Dawston. It's just
- 25:02Speaker 1: great that we're we love that we live. Gared's parents too,
- 25:05Speaker 1: so it's not like there's no competition. It's just we
- 25:10Speaker 1: love raising our grandson together. And absolutely, well the talk,
- 25:19Speaker 1: you're gonna talk over each other, it's gonna be chaos.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Um oh. Because we had Dawson obviously in the house
- 25:25Speaker 1: for the first three weeks of his life. Were you
- 25:29Speaker 1: terrified of that? Was that before? Nervous going up and
- 25:33Speaker 1: down the stairs? And you know, I'm just having a
- 25:36Speaker 1: fear of stairs, I guess, especially at your house. So
- 25:39Speaker 1: I'm just more protective. Whereas you're the parents, you know,
- 25:43Speaker 1: you just grab him and you walk and when you're yeah,
- 25:46Speaker 1: he's like a rubber bandise. I know, when you're not
- 25:48Speaker 1: used to being around an infant. It's kind of like
- 25:51Speaker 1: I walk slower and just more cautious. If you had
- 25:55Speaker 1: a joy like do you miss Dawson being in the
- 25:56Speaker 1: house or do you like the fact that, like you
- 25:58Speaker 1: get to see him and then you don't have to
- 26:00Speaker 1: you know, I wish you guys look closer. Yeah, you know,
- 26:04Speaker 1: because he changes from week to week. But I'm happy
- 26:08Speaker 1: that it's a short flight, so I'm happy that I
- 26:12Speaker 1: can see him as often as I can. Well, you're
- 26:14Speaker 1: welcome any time. We love having you here. She's hearing
- 26:18Speaker 1: that she thinks that she she feels like you must
- 26:20Speaker 1: get tired of her in the house. No, I don't,
- 26:22Speaker 1: Audrey every time. First of all, you treat me like
- 26:25Speaker 1: a king that I don't like. Every every time I
- 26:28Speaker 1: go to the house. Your house. I walk in, there's
- 26:30Speaker 1: like a chocouderie board set up for me, and you're
- 26:34Speaker 1: just like, oh, I put this thing together and it
- 26:35Speaker 1: has like seven different meats and cheeses and crackers and
- 26:38Speaker 1: it could feed a small army. But I love every
- 26:41Speaker 1: second of it. And then you're just so kind to me,
- 26:43Speaker 1: especially during I mean every time I go over during
- 26:45Speaker 1: the pandemic when I was there for four months, if
- 26:47Speaker 1: anybody was gonna get tired of anybody, I'll think about it. Yeah,
- 26:49Speaker 1: you spent a lot of time here, so yeah. So
- 26:52Speaker 1: and then any time you come here, you're so good
- 26:54Speaker 1: with Dawson, you clean the house, You're just like always
- 26:58Speaker 1: doing something. Uh, it's nice and you're a wonderful human beings.
- 27:03Speaker 1: So it's always been very nice to have you here. Say,
- 27:06Speaker 1: I'm so happy I'm on this podcast today. It's really nice.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Thank you. But I love coming and you know, I
- 27:13Speaker 1: just I'm just getting used to having a grandson. So so
- 27:16Speaker 1: so it's all been good. I'd love to see you
- 27:18Speaker 1: guys as parents, because you guys are really amazing parents. Well,
- 27:25Speaker 1: thank you, mom. That's because you raised us very well.
- 27:29Speaker 1: He raised me well, alright, do you want to say
- 27:31Speaker 1: Happy Mother's Day to your mom. Happy Mother's Day to
- 27:33Speaker 1: you mom. You have a little Pandora gift coming your way. Yeah, really, well,
- 27:39Speaker 1: thank you so much. All Right, here we go, Nancy.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Are you in the world of zoom? You don't have
- 27:55Speaker 1: to turn your video on. Hello? Happy Mother's Day. Oh well,
- 28:00Speaker 1: thank you, You're welcome. Welcome to the podcast Almost Famous
- 28:04Speaker 1: with Ben and Ashley. Hello, Ben, Hello, how are you.
- 28:12Speaker 1: I'm well, it's good to talk to you. Thank you
- 28:14Speaker 1: for joining us today. Oh, thank you for having me.
- 28:18Speaker 1: You know what, Nance, I never really asked you this.
- 28:21Speaker 1: Maybe I have, maybe years ago, but let's do it
- 28:23Speaker 1: for the people now. Do you think that you did
- 28:26Speaker 1: something to raise Jared so right to be the perfect gentleman?
- 28:30Speaker 1: I'm sorry I keep using the word perfect in this podcast,
- 28:32Speaker 1: but seriously, Jared, you know that you're a gentleman. Okay?
- 28:37Speaker 1: Do you think nature or nurture? How much of it
- 28:42Speaker 1: is both? You know, like, did you do something to
- 28:45Speaker 1: just make such a handsome man be so respectable as well?
- 28:50Speaker 1: I don't know. There's very few combinations. Ben and Jared
- 28:54Speaker 1: are two examples of very handsome men who could probably
- 28:58Speaker 1: get away with being not as gentlemanly as they are. Yeah,
- 29:03Speaker 1: I'd give a lot of credit to our fathers. Um,
- 29:07Speaker 1: that is true, and I agree with that. And honestly,
- 29:10Speaker 1: you know, I believe I have said this and you
- 29:13Speaker 1: probably it will ring about. I do believe Shannon came
- 29:17Speaker 1: out with their own personality right out of the womb,
- 29:19Speaker 1: and so did Jared. And I do believe that. Sure
- 29:24Speaker 1: we molded them, but I think he came out a kind, considerate,
- 29:28Speaker 1: caring human being. And um, I think it's did we
- 29:34Speaker 1: help a little along the way, like making a cake. Yeah,
- 29:37Speaker 1: we might have put the frosting on and decorated it
- 29:40Speaker 1: a little, but well, if anybody saw pictures of me
- 29:42Speaker 1: as a child, they know that cakemaking. Love of God.
- 29:50Speaker 1: I'm sorry everyone in my side of the family went
- 29:52Speaker 1: toward rubby stage and I'm still in it. So sorry.
- 29:58Speaker 1: My favorite pictures, Um, Nancy, I uh, you know, from
- 30:02Speaker 1: from the outside looking in, right, Ashley obviously is in love,
- 30:06Speaker 1: uh with Jared. They're married, they have a beautiful, beautiful baby.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Um you are, Um, You're somebody that's been along for
- 30:14Speaker 1: that ride since the beginning. But I'm on the outside here,
- 30:17Speaker 1: and so sometimes I feel like in life the outside
- 30:20Speaker 1: opinion is the one that um is the most impactful.
- 30:24Speaker 1: And so you know, I remember meeting Jared for the
- 30:26Speaker 1: first time. I remember sitting next to him, uh in
- 30:29Speaker 1: the Bachelor mansion on night one, looking at this guy,
- 30:32Speaker 1: and I said these words to him. I said, hey, dude,
- 30:34Speaker 1: I don't belong here, and he looked back at me
- 30:37Speaker 1: and he said, I don't either. And now that's kind
- 30:40Speaker 1: of funny. It was never shown, UM, but what he
- 30:44Speaker 1: did in that moment was he showed empathy and he
- 30:47Speaker 1: made me feel less alone in a moment that was
- 30:50Speaker 1: very overwhelming and very hard to process. And that's where
- 30:53Speaker 1: you come in, Nancy. My question for you is, Jared
- 30:57Speaker 1: is an empathetic soul. Uh. He is a tremendous husband
- 31:01Speaker 1: and a great father and a great friend. Was there
- 31:04Speaker 1: an intentionality to you raising him? There's it? Was there
- 31:08Speaker 1: things that you did on purpose to help him become that?
- 31:13Speaker 1: Or do you feel like it was still like you
- 31:15Speaker 1: said earlier, just you kind of putting the icing on
- 31:16Speaker 1: the cake, just helping him walk down a path forward,
- 31:19Speaker 1: or do you feel like there were some things that
- 31:20Speaker 1: you said No, as a parent, I want to instill
- 31:22Speaker 1: this into my son well of course. UM. I think
- 31:27Speaker 1: every parent wants to instill something in their child, whether
- 31:31Speaker 1: it's Jared or whether it's my daughter Shannon, and UM.
- 31:35Speaker 1: And with a son, I did have an intention to
- 31:39Speaker 1: make sure that he was uh sensitive and had empathy
- 31:44Speaker 1: and certainly was respectful, not just a women of men
- 31:48Speaker 1: of you know, because um, so, I don't know if
- 31:54Speaker 1: I answered that correctly. I did do I did do
- 31:58Speaker 1: things with intention. What did you do? What specifically? What
- 32:02Speaker 1: do I need to do to Dawson to have him
- 32:04Speaker 1: turn out to be like Jared? Goodness, gracious, love him,
- 32:10Speaker 1: love him, love him, respect him. UM, listen to him.
- 32:15Speaker 1: And I went to classes. You went to classes. I did,
- 32:20Speaker 1: and that's you know, we're gonna get down. And I
- 32:22Speaker 1: think I've I've admitted this UM with Shannon. UM. Shannon
- 32:26Speaker 1: was more of a UM. I told Shannon something once
- 32:29Speaker 1: and she did it. I said no to Shannon, and
- 32:31Speaker 1: she took no for an answer. Jared was not so
- 32:35Speaker 1: much just that same kind of child. I would say
- 32:38Speaker 1: something nine times and Jared would not listen, and I
- 32:43Speaker 1: would get frustrated. And so he was about four or five,
- 32:46Speaker 1: and I said I either I'm gonna go take a
- 32:48Speaker 1: course or I'm gonna kill the child. I don't know which. Well,
- 32:53Speaker 1: I'm still here. So she took the course, so I did.
- 32:57Speaker 1: I took a course and um it was like five weeks.
- 33:00Speaker 1: But the one main thing that I took out of
- 33:03Speaker 1: that court was positive reinforcement with So if you did
- 33:08Speaker 1: something that like putting a little he put a kitten
- 33:14Speaker 1: in the microwave, Listen, I didn't turn the microwave on.
- 33:17Speaker 1: I was a kid. I don't know what the hell
- 33:18Speaker 1: is going now. I know you didn't know what you
- 33:21Speaker 1: were doing. But if he didn't, so as he got older,
- 33:24Speaker 1: if he did something that you know was not acceptable
- 33:27Speaker 1: or just wasn't you know, I just talked back. I
- 33:30Speaker 1: wasn't you know. We just I would go in first
- 33:33Speaker 1: with everything that he did really well that day, and
- 33:35Speaker 1: how happy and how proud I am of him, and
- 33:38Speaker 1: that would really work a lot better than what I
- 33:42Speaker 1: was doing, because what I was doing is just like
- 33:44Speaker 1: grabbing his al open, pulling him in the bedroom, and
- 33:48Speaker 1: that wasn't working so well. Nancy, there is there's a
- 33:53Speaker 1: theme here, obviously, and you've I think you've been listening on.
- 33:58Speaker 1: But from my mom and I have a great relationship
- 34:01Speaker 1: with my parents and a lot in a lot of
- 34:02Speaker 1: ways I always have and there's just a lot of
- 34:05Speaker 1: love and um, a lot of respect that I have
- 34:07Speaker 1: for them and uh. And then obviously with Ashley's mom,
- 34:11Speaker 1: the same thing. There was a respect, there was love,
- 34:13Speaker 1: there was a there was a friendship. It sounded like
- 34:16Speaker 1: going on there, Nancy, you just said it. You have
- 34:18Speaker 1: the positive reinforcement, uh and the respect again, you used
- 34:22Speaker 1: a respect. There's a theme in this parenting of three
- 34:25Speaker 1: parents that we believe are incredible mothers where respect was
- 34:30Speaker 1: given to their child. How important now looking back was
- 34:34Speaker 1: that to respect your child and to love your child.
- 34:37Speaker 1: You you touched on something with your mom which really
- 34:40Speaker 1: hit home to me because I was brought up with
- 34:45Speaker 1: well why did you say that? Because I said so?
- 34:48Speaker 1: That's the way I was brought up. I wasn't allowed
- 34:49Speaker 1: to ask questions right my generation. I wasn't allowed to,
- 34:54Speaker 1: you know, say well why do I have to go
- 34:55Speaker 1: well why because I said so? So that's what I
- 35:00Speaker 1: had to re learn that behavior and not And I
- 35:03Speaker 1: didn't want to be that parent that just stood there
- 35:05Speaker 1: and said because I said so, so we would have discussions,
- 35:09Speaker 1: like you said, so, you touched on that and I
- 35:12Speaker 1: think with that develops a friendship as they get older
- 35:16Speaker 1: and in a mutual respect with each other. Hm. I Uh,
- 35:20Speaker 1: it's it's something that your your spot on there, and
- 35:24Speaker 1: it's something I just don't want to under emphasize when
- 35:28Speaker 1: it comes to how we see our parents because today,
- 35:31Speaker 1: because of that also, and because of that stance, and
- 35:35Speaker 1: and because of that intentionality, because of the ability asked questions.
- 35:37Speaker 1: You know what I can still do. I can still
- 35:38Speaker 1: ask my parents questions at thirty three years old, and
- 35:41Speaker 1: I can still lean on them because I know that
- 35:43Speaker 1: they've done it since the day I was born, and
- 35:46Speaker 1: I know as I get older, it's only going to
- 35:48Speaker 1: get easier to continue to have those more adult now conversations. Nancy,
- 35:52Speaker 1: You've raised an incredible child. Uh, you have an incredible
- 35:56Speaker 1: grandchild here who I know you're so excited for and
- 36:00Speaker 1: proud of. Um. Thank you for joining us today. You
- 36:04Speaker 1: are a treat And Jared is an amazing son. I
- 36:08Speaker 1: couldn't ask for a boutest son. And I just want
- 36:10Speaker 1: to throw in one. I am so grateful because we
- 36:13Speaker 1: would go to like like Ashley touchdown in the front
- 36:15Speaker 1: of the bus. We would go to movies together, when
- 36:18Speaker 1: Jared was sixteen, he still go to movies with his
- 36:20Speaker 1: mom and we would laugh and we would have so
- 36:24Speaker 1: much fun together. So yeah, I know, I remember we
- 36:30Speaker 1: saw we saw Mission Impossible three, which came out on
- 36:33Speaker 1: thousand and six in a movie theater, and I just, yeah,
