2:54
Speaker 6: Dear no, thank goodness.
2:58
Speaker 3: Got anything you guys going to be out about anywhere
3:00
Speaker 3: this weekend? Are you take hanging it hanging close to
3:03
Speaker 3: the shelter. He's going to be out anywhere this weekend.
3:06
Speaker 6: Tonight, we'll be at the Pride kickoff party from five
3:09
Speaker 6: to about eight pm, but other than that, our weekend
3:12
Speaker 6: is going to be pretty tame.
3:14
Speaker 4: Okay.
3:14
Speaker 3: Well, that's all right, that's right, because we got I mean,
3:16
Speaker 3: there's so many things going on to the next couple
3:17
Speaker 3: of weeks, so you know you had a lot of
3:20
Speaker 3: work to do there, because I know your numbers are
3:22
Speaker 3: still pretty high. We'll get that a little bit later on,
3:24
Speaker 3: but as always, our part of the week's picture posted
3:26
Speaker 3: on Dave Island Radio, on Facebook and at Dave A
3:28
Speaker 3: seventy on X tell us about and are you pronouncing
3:32
Speaker 3: it Weasley?
3:34
Speaker 6: Weasley like Ron Weasley from Harry Potter.
3:38
Speaker 4: I should have known, Ryan, I should have known.
3:40
Speaker 3: I should have known, all right, I because when you
3:43
Speaker 3: sent me the text last night, I said, well, I
3:45
Speaker 3: wonder if it's Wesley, and then I should have all automatically.
3:50
Speaker 4: Presumed with you that that's where we were going to go.
3:52
Speaker 4: Although I don't know who Weasley is because I've never
3:54
Speaker 4: seen the first Harry Potter film or read the book.
3:56
Speaker 4: But I'm not very culture, I'm not very cold.
4:00
Speaker 3: I got Weasley's picture posted again over on my social
4:04
Speaker 3: media tell us about Weasley.
4:06
Speaker 6: So, Weasley is a very unique dog. He is one
4:09
Speaker 6: of our dogs that's been with us for quite some time.
4:12
Speaker 6: He is starting to get really stressed in his kennel.
4:15
Speaker 6: He paces, he barks, he kind of flips himself from
4:19
Speaker 6: side to side of the kennel as far as like
4:22
Speaker 6: running really quickly and getting a lot of air up
4:25
Speaker 6: on the side of the kennel like a motorcycle in
4:27
Speaker 6: a cage. Really, so we're trying to get Weasley out.
4:31
Speaker 6: He is probably would do best as the only dog
4:34
Speaker 6: in the home. He has been okay with some dogs
4:37
Speaker 6: he's met at the shelter, so it's really hard to
4:40
Speaker 6: like pin down who he would go well with or
4:44
Speaker 6: who he could live with. But if you have a
4:46
Speaker 6: dog at home and you want to try out Weasley,
4:48
Speaker 6: you can bring your pet to the shelter. We can
4:50
Speaker 6: do a meet and greet, make sure everything goes okay.
4:53
Speaker 6: But he's two years old, he's neutered, the works, he's
4:57
Speaker 6: got all his vaccines, microchips, all that good stuff. And
5:01
Speaker 6: he is, like I said, he's just very unique, very funny.
5:05
Speaker 6: A lot of our staff love him. He has lots
5:07
Speaker 6: of nicknames at the shelters, like the weise, weasel, all
5:11
Speaker 6: that good stuff.
5:12
Speaker 3: And you say he's around thirty six pounds, I think
5:15
Speaker 3: is what you told me.
5:16
Speaker 6: Yeah, around thirty six pounds. He is taller, so thirty
5:20
Speaker 6: six pounds looks pretty good on him, but he's a
5:23
Speaker 6: taller dog. Completely sponsored ad option. See. The only thing
5:26
Speaker 6: that's a definite no for Weasley is very young children.
5:30
Speaker 6: We're thinking like under ten years old. And definitely no cat.
5:34
Speaker 4: Definitely no, he's not a cat fan like we are, right,
5:37
Speaker 4: absolutely not. All right, Well, I mean you got to
5:39
Speaker 4: know that going in.
5:40
Speaker 3: It's better and better to find that out ahead of
5:41
Speaker 3: time as opposed to trying to find it out later.
5:44
Speaker 3: So he does have a lot of energy. And again
5:47
Speaker 3: you've told us before about these these dogs that when
5:50
Speaker 3: they're in their kennel or in the in the shelter,
5:52
Speaker 3: I should say that you know they they sometimes it
5:57
Speaker 3: just totally stresses them out. And then you get him
5:59
Speaker 3: out of that, whether somebody fosters them or they just
6:02
Speaker 3: take them out for the day for a walk or whatever.
6:04
Speaker 3: It's an amazing it's amazing what a difference there is
6:07
Speaker 3: when you actually can get them out of there.
6:10
Speaker 6: Yeah, anytime outside, I mean even as a small amount
6:13
Speaker 6: of times like fifteen minutes, can make such a huge
6:16
Speaker 6: difference for the dogs that are to the point of
6:18
Speaker 6: like pacing and hurting themselves in their kennels. So definitely
6:22
Speaker 6: consider fostering or just getting them out for a little
6:25
Speaker 6: bit because again it makes a huge difference for them.
6:28
Speaker 3: Well, speaking of fostering, Angie June is National Foster a
6:32
Speaker 3: Pitt Month and so it would be a great opportunity
6:35
Speaker 3: for people to try to try this out. If somebody
6:38
Speaker 3: is considering fostering, what's the conversation like, they just call
6:42
Speaker 3: you up or they stop mind and they say, look,
6:43
Speaker 3: I'm considering fostering. What advice do you give them?
6:48
Speaker 6: So our behavior is Jolie is much more well rounded
6:51
Speaker 6: with as far as behavior advice, as far as bringing
6:54
Speaker 6: an animal into your home. We try to set you
6:56
Speaker 6: up from for success from the start. We give you
6:59
Speaker 6: pretty much any supply that you will need, and then
7:03
Speaker 6: as far as fostering, anytime amount, any amount of time
7:06
Speaker 6: out of the shelter is great. So we're not going
7:09
Speaker 6: to say, hey, we need you to at least keep
7:10
Speaker 6: them for the weekend or whatever. We're gonna be happy
7:13
Speaker 6: with whatever you can do and whatever you feel comfortable doing,
7:16
Speaker 6: because we want you to come back and foster more.
7:19
Speaker 6: So we're not going to push you past your limits
7:21
Speaker 6: to foster one particular animal.
7:23
Speaker 3: And you know, there are so many people that do
7:27
Speaker 3: that on a regular basis, you know, whether it's dogs
7:30
Speaker 3: or cats or whatever.
7:31
Speaker 4: They that this is kind of their thing.
7:33
Speaker 3: This is their this is their golfer, you know, whatever
7:36
Speaker 3: other activities you may have, that they just live to
7:38
Speaker 3: do this stuff.
7:39
Speaker 4: Angie. I mean, they love, they love to foster.
7:42
Speaker 3: And then you'll see them post pictures on social media
7:44
Speaker 3: trying to help you guys get these pets adopted by saying, hey,
7:48
Speaker 3: we've been fostering this cat or this dog or whatever.
7:50
Speaker 3: He's great, she's fantastic, whatever. So God bless those people.
7:54
Speaker 6: To do that.
7:54
Speaker 3: And again, June is National Foster a Pet Mont so
7:57
Speaker 3: it'd be a great time for people to to try
8:00
Speaker 3: to look into that.
8:01
Speaker 4: So how are the numbers looking.
8:04
Speaker 6: They're still as always, I feel like a broken record.
8:07
Speaker 6: We're still no matter how many animals we send out,
8:09
Speaker 6: we cannot get below five hundred animals in our care.
8:12
Speaker 6: Even this morning we had twenty leaves to an adoption
8:16
Speaker 6: event in New Jersey, and we are still pushing about
8:19
Speaker 6: five hundred and like five hundred and three animals.
8:22
Speaker 3: So wow, and that's that's definitely wait, wait, way too many.
8:28
Speaker 3: After the show last week, after your segment last week, Anie,
8:30
Speaker 3: somebody had texted and I don't know whether we did
8:34
Speaker 3: this actually on air or not, but I know I
8:36
Speaker 3: got with you afterwards. They wanted to know about floor
8:38
Speaker 3: plans or anything like that for the new shelter. I
8:40
Speaker 3: know we're not quite there yet, but can in case
8:42
Speaker 3: they missed it last week, can you give us a
8:44
Speaker 3: timeline of, you know, ideally fingers crossed, when you'd like
8:47
Speaker 3: to start construction, when you'd actually like to be in
8:49
Speaker 3: the new shelter.
8:51
Speaker 6: Yes, so we are. The floor plans are in work.
8:55
Speaker 6: We're getting sent drafts at this point of what we
8:58
Speaker 6: think would work for thee like the location we've picked,
9:02
Speaker 6: and also kind of sticking to what is like feasible
9:06
Speaker 6: for KHA. So we're looking at a timeline of about
9:10
Speaker 6: like three to four years at this point, just because
9:15
Speaker 6: it takes a lot more than I thought it did
9:17
Speaker 6: personally to get a animal shelter constructed versus like a
9:21
Speaker 6: regular building constructed. A lot goes into like drain work
9:26
Speaker 6: and all the building things construction things that I'm not
9:31
Speaker 6: familiar with.
9:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean one, I can certainly imagine that. The
9:35
Speaker 3: Dave Allen showing five eighty Live is brought to you
9:37
Speaker 3: in part by Morgan to Morgan, America's largest injury law firm.
9:39
Speaker 3: We have a text question for you, Miss givin Water.
9:42
Speaker 3: It says, any idea why it seems that feline and
9:45
Speaker 3: if I butcher this, you can you can and butcher
9:49
Speaker 3: me later. Feline piometra ting to pronounce that right. Cases
9:53
Speaker 3: seem to have jumped over the past year.
9:57
Speaker 6: We're talking piametra. It's an infection in a cat or
10:05
Speaker 6: dogs uterist. I haven't seen personally like a lot of
10:09
Speaker 6: piametra cases happening at the shelter, specifically if they're spiking
10:14
Speaker 6: in the area and nationwide. The easy solution of that,
10:17
Speaker 6: please get your pet saved. That is the number one
10:21
Speaker 6: way to prevent that. And I think what's happening now
10:24
Speaker 6: is there's a national vet shortage, so stay and neuter
10:27
Speaker 6: is very hard to access right now. And I think
10:30
Speaker 6: that may be an explanation as to why those cases
10:33
Speaker 6: are jumping specifically.
10:34
Speaker 3: All right, hey Angie, I appreciate you being here and
10:38
Speaker 3: we'll talk again next week.
10:39
Speaker 4: Thanks a lot. Sounds great, Angie Gellawater from the GNAAL Charleston.
10:43
Speaker 3: You made association with this week's adop me. Please better
10:45
Speaker 3: the week again. Picture posted over on Dave Island Radio
10:48
Speaker 3: on Facebook and at Davise seventy on X It's Weasley,
10:51
Speaker 3: to year old male around thirty six pounds, needs to
10:54
Speaker 3: probably be the only pet. Seems to get along well
10:57
Speaker 3: with other playful female dogs, but definitely no cats. And
11:01
Speaker 3: they recommend because of the energy level and things of
11:04
Speaker 3: that nature, that probably would be better in a home.
11:06
Speaker 3: Kids are fine, but maybe older kids maybe, say, as
11:09
Speaker 3: Angie said, maybe ten and up probably would be better
11:11
Speaker 3: for Weasley. And he's already he's already ready to go,
11:15
Speaker 3: he's already vaccinated, he's already neutered. He's going to be
11:18
Speaker 3: a fantastic dog for your family. And I've got his
11:21
Speaker 3: picture again if you want to see Weasley. The dog
11:23
Speaker 3: we're talking about, which I learned today as a Harry
11:24
Speaker 3: Potter thing. I don't know absolutely nothing about Harry Potter.
11:28
Speaker 3: I've left a I guess led very very very sheltered life.
11:31
Speaker 3: No pun intended when we're talking about the Humans Association,
11:34
Speaker 3: but anyway, go over to Dave Island Radio and Facebook.
11:37

Speaker 5: in Charleston that was always working to connect artists and
15:45
Speaker 5: business and community together to really like grow and and
15:50
Speaker 5: like you said a sec Ago, we have a lot
15:51
Speaker 5: of great art in Charleston and we really do support
15:53
Speaker 5: the artists in Charleston, and Art Amplified is really just
15:56
Speaker 5: there to help take all of that to the next level,
15:58
Speaker 5: help make those connections and really amplify all the great
16:01
Speaker 5: arts that's already going on in Charleston and hopefully create
16:03
Speaker 5: some new fund things in the long line.
16:05
Speaker 4: What are some of the things that you guys have
16:07
Speaker 4: done in the last few years.
16:08
Speaker 5: We have a minigrant program which has been very successful.
16:11
Speaker 5: Those are like five thousand dollars Ish minigrants that anyone
16:14
Speaker 5: can apply for artists, businesses, organizations. So through that we've
16:18
Speaker 5: done a lot. Like we've helped recently Folklore Music on
16:21
Speaker 5: Summer Street. They wanted to build a performance space in
16:23
Speaker 5: their store. They applied for a mini grant, took them
16:26
Speaker 5: all of five minutes. We were happy to approve that
16:28
Speaker 5: and now they have that in that space. That's just
16:31
Speaker 5: something recently. Programming wise, we have City Center Live, which
16:36
Speaker 5: we mentioned a second ago, is actually kicking off next
16:39
Speaker 5: week on Thursday, and that's our series of summer events
16:43
Speaker 5: that we do in the park. So that's one of
16:44
Speaker 5: the other programming things we do. We do a lot
16:47
Speaker 5: of brokering between businesses and artists. Let's say a couple
16:50
Speaker 5: of years ago, Progrants got depot wanted to find an
16:53
Speaker 5: artist to paint a mural in their entry area. So
16:56
Speaker 5: we helped them through that process of collecting the artists,
16:59
Speaker 5: helping them go through the interview process selecting who they wanted.
17:02
Speaker 3: And that's really cool, I will say, because that's where
17:04
Speaker 3: I live. I mean, I don't live at Kroger, but
17:07
Speaker 3: well you could. But but I will say, that's the
17:10
Speaker 3: local Uh, that's the local grocery store. So you've seen
17:12
Speaker 3: that in our neighborhood once a week at least.
17:15
Speaker 4: Amazing.
17:15
Speaker 3: I mean absolutely, I had no idea you guys did that. Yeah,
17:18
Speaker 3: it's amazing.
17:18
Speaker 5: Every time I see it, I think it really does
17:20
Speaker 5: look like a piece of work that wouldn't be in
17:23
Speaker 5: a Kroger.
17:23
Speaker 4: I mean it's a beautiful piece of work. Yeah, it
17:25
Speaker 4: really is good.
17:26
Speaker 3: We're talking to Brian Cooper from Mart's Amplified, So city
17:29
Speaker 3: Center Live tell us about that.
17:30
Speaker 4: So city Center Live.
17:31
Speaker 5: We started it three years ago. The idea, you know,
17:33
Speaker 5: the beautiful Slack Plaza was recreated as City Center at
17:36
Speaker 5: the time, the new park downtown, and we really wanted
17:39
Speaker 5: to just put programming to make that a big part
17:41
Speaker 5: of the new park, having things in the park for
17:44
Speaker 5: people to do.
17:45
Speaker 8: Uh.
17:45
Speaker 5: So we came up with the idea of having a
17:47
Speaker 5: regular series of events, all free, three times a week
17:51
Speaker 5: throughout the summer, and it's a little bit of everything.
17:53
Speaker 5: Like there's like I said, next Thursday starts with open
17:55
Speaker 5: Sky Open Mic, which is exactly as it sounds. It's
17:58
Speaker 5: just open mic night out in the park. Anybody come down.
18:01
Speaker 5: We have line dancing night. People come out and do
18:03
Speaker 5: line dancing. We have a murder Mystery night. Gosh, we
18:07
Speaker 5: have theater events in the park. These are all free
18:09
Speaker 5: events that take place, Like we start on June twelfth,
18:13
Speaker 5: so we'll do like four dates through June. That's just
18:15
Speaker 5: kind of like a teaser of what the season is
18:17
Speaker 5: going to be like. And then we take off July
18:19
Speaker 5: because there's so much going on in July in our
18:21
Speaker 5: town that we don't need any more programming now, you know,
18:23
Speaker 5: we really don't. But then in August it really kicks off.
18:27
Speaker 5: And from August through October seventeenth, there'll be at least
18:31
Speaker 5: three events in the park every week that are always
18:35
Speaker 5: free for anyone, and they're all artspaced, so you can
18:39
Speaker 5: always come out, have some fun downtown and see some art.
18:42
Speaker 3: How do you choose, Brian, what it is that you do?
18:44
Speaker 3: I mean that's kind of eclectic. You talked about the
18:46
Speaker 3: music and murder mysteries and line dancing. How do you
18:49
Speaker 3: choose what goes into you? Just listen to the people.
18:51
Speaker 5: Yeah, So we started with the large committee actually of
18:54
Speaker 5: diverse people to say, you know, what would be some
18:56
Speaker 5: things to try. And really what we've done is kind
18:58
Speaker 5: of adapt season to season. We've taken data and talk
19:02
Speaker 5: to people and see what's working, what's not working. We've
19:05
Speaker 5: kept everything. Actually, we've I don't know if we've dropped anything.
19:08
Speaker 5: We've kind of just grown off of everything that we've had.
19:12
Speaker 5: Some new things we have added this year. We have
19:13
Speaker 5: a high school marching band showcase, so some of the
19:16
Speaker 5: high school marching bands will come out and perform one evening.
19:19
Speaker 5: We're adding Happy Hours on Fridays and starting in September
19:22
Speaker 5: this year, so it'll be an earlier in the day event.
19:26
Speaker 5: People can come out, play some yard games. Here's some
19:28
Speaker 5: live music. We're adding a Pickle Palooza fest this year,
19:32
Speaker 5: which we'll have like ten to twelve vendors sampling Pickles
19:36
Speaker 5: in the Park.
19:37
Speaker 3: Pickles in the Park, Pickles in the Park. I mean
19:38
Speaker 3: that's a new one. Yea, I haven't heard that one.
19:40
Speaker 4: There you go.
19:41
Speaker 5: Yeah, it'll be fun. You can come out sample pickles.
19:43
Speaker 5: Everyone will vote on who their favorite pickle is. We'll
19:46
Speaker 5: have some pickle games and contests. It'll all be a
19:48
Speaker 5: pickle themed day, of course, with live music too. We'll
19:51
Speaker 5: have some Irish brogue music. We'll have some bluegrass music
19:54
Speaker 5: that day. It should be an event that will be.
19:56
Speaker 3: Kind of you're really missing out here, Brian, if you don't.
20:00
Speaker 3: I know, you can't have pickleball tournament down there but
20:02
Speaker 3: pickle but but I mean just to have somebody up
20:05
Speaker 3: down there. Get with Johnny rutherth buddy, you know that's
20:09
Speaker 3: so big into pickleball. He's a regular on the show.
20:11
Speaker 3: They just had the pickleball tournament, including the pickle eating
20:13
Speaker 3: contest I think in Nitro last week, So maybe get
20:17
Speaker 3: them down there at least talk about We're talking to
20:20
Speaker 3: Brian Cooper again from Arts Amplified. The Dave Allen Show
20:23
Speaker 3: in five eighty Live is brought to you in part
20:24
Speaker 3: by Pinnacle Consultants. Poor indoor air quality can cause a
20:27
Speaker 3: variety of health issues allergies, respiratory problems, and more. Pinnacle
20:31
Speaker 3: offers specialized indoor air quality services for residential, commercial, and
20:35
Speaker 3: industrial type settings Visa Pinnacle Corp.
20:37
Speaker 4: Dot net.
20:38
Speaker 3: Because what you don't know can hurt you. I want
20:40
Speaker 3: to talk about getting young people involved in this, in
20:43
Speaker 3: the arts in general, and I'm a big believer that
20:48
Speaker 3: anything we can get young people involved in, whether it's sports,
20:51
Speaker 3: whether it's theater, whether it's banned you know, music, dance,
20:55
Speaker 3: you know, anything to get them interested in something other
20:59
Speaker 3: than just a device, I think has got to be
21:01
Speaker 3: a good thing.
21:02
Speaker 4: Is your program.
21:04
Speaker 3: And you, folks, do you do you do anything to
21:06
Speaker 3: work with the youth to kind of reach out together absolute.
21:08
Speaker 5: And honestly, I mean selfishly, you know, I actually didn't
21:11
Speaker 5: come from an art profession background. I worked in IT
21:16
Speaker 5: and oil and gas companies and law firms, and my
21:18
Speaker 5: background was actually mostly in information technology. But when we
21:22
Speaker 5: moved to Charleston about thirteen years ago, now we had
21:25
Speaker 5: the little kids at the time, it was really the
21:27
Speaker 5: art scene that kind of hooked us into Charleston, being
21:29
Speaker 5: able to go to art walk, going our kids got
21:32
Speaker 5: super involved in local theater. So it was through that
21:34
Speaker 5: that kind of led me into the passion of wanting
21:37
Speaker 5: to see arts thrive in Charleston, and.
21:40
Speaker 4: Yeah, we do.
21:40
Speaker 5: You know, I would say open mic night at City
21:44
Speaker 5: Center Live is probably one of our biggest youth outreach
21:48
Speaker 5: events because there's really not an open mic night except
21:51
Speaker 5: for the one that Folklore Music does when City certain
21:53
Speaker 5: Live is not going on, that all ages can come
21:56
Speaker 5: out and perform it. So imagine a fifteen year old
21:59
Speaker 5: kid who's never you know, they have some skills, but
22:01
Speaker 5: they don't have anywhere to really test that out and
22:03
Speaker 5: show it to be able to come down to the
22:05
Speaker 5: City Center Live or perform in the park where you
22:06
Speaker 5: might have a patio full of people over at five
22:09
Speaker 5: Street that's now listening to this kid. And I've seen
22:11
Speaker 5: people get up and walk from five Street to come see.
22:14
Speaker 4: Like, who is this singer there? Yeah?
22:15
Speaker 5: Like so to give them that kind of space and
22:17
Speaker 5: exposure is It's been one of my favorite parts of
22:20
Speaker 5: Citizens Live Reshort.
22:21
Speaker 2: Now.
22:21
Speaker 3: You see if that were me and I were up
22:23
Speaker 3: on stage and the people at five Street would say,
22:26
Speaker 3: is someone being murdered over.
22:27
Speaker 4: There the inside table? Now, well what exactly is that?
22:31
Speaker 4: What exactly is that?
22:32
Speaker 3: But but again, you know, it's an opportunity for people
22:34
Speaker 3: to come out and you know, you've been here for
22:36
Speaker 3: a while. We weren't you from originally.
22:39
Speaker 4: We were in Beckley before.
22:40
Speaker 3: Okay, okay, But you know as well as I do
22:42
Speaker 3: that Charleston is really getting this of this image as
22:48
Speaker 3: being a just a thriving I mean, I talk about
22:52
Speaker 3: the culinary community because I'm a filia. I mean the
22:54
Speaker 3: culinary community, but also the arts community as well the music.
22:58
Speaker 3: I mean, there's a lot of stuff going on.
23:00
Speaker 5: We've had Mountain Stage here forever. At this point, fest
23:03
Speaker 5: of All has been a you know, an amazing part. Again,
23:06
Speaker 5: that's another thing that my family loved, Like there's all
23:08
Speaker 5: these art things we have, the regotta we have live
23:10
Speaker 5: on the levee, Like there's so many things now we
23:12
Speaker 5: have City Center Live Art Amplified doing. You know, we
23:14
Speaker 5: just put out these art collecting vending machines around town.
23:17
Speaker 5: I don't know if you've seen those or not. Yeah,
23:20
Speaker 5: there's something about the community engaging in art like that
23:24
Speaker 5: that feels really special to Charleston. I was downtown during
23:26
Speaker 5: the bike race. We did a whole week of well
23:29
Speaker 5: five days of music programming during the bike race, so
23:31
Speaker 5: you could watch rices and listen to music in the park,
23:34
Speaker 5: and I saw a family of little kids collect all
23:36
Speaker 5: the quarters they could. They ran over to the vending machine,
23:39
Speaker 5: got a bunch of the vending the art vending cards out,
23:42
Speaker 5: and then they all set around as a family in
23:43
Speaker 5: the park like opening them up. I thought this, you know,
23:46
Speaker 5: that looks like a fun thing about Charleston to me.
23:48
Speaker 3: Is now for those that don't I know what you're
23:50
Speaker 3: talking about. But for those that don't know about these
23:52
Speaker 3: cards you're talking about to explain that.
23:54
Speaker 5: So think of an old school put your four quarters in,
23:57
Speaker 5: pushing the button, and outcomes of tattoo or a sticker
24:00
Speaker 5: or something like that, except for in this case, you
24:03
Speaker 5: put your four quarters in, you push it in, and
24:05
Speaker 5: what comes out as a print from a local artist.
24:07
Speaker 5: We have four different artists right now, so you can
24:09
Speaker 5: collect all sixteen. There's four different prints from four different artists.
24:12
Speaker 5: We have one vending machine at our office at the
24:14
Speaker 5: Greater Knaw Valley Foundation right across from five Street Brewery,
24:18
Speaker 5: and then we have another vending machine in Capital Market,
24:21
Speaker 5: so you could visit those. There's ian body has some
24:23
Speaker 5: prints in them. Each claus has prints, Blake Wheeler and
24:28
Speaker 5: Lex Hunter. So there's four artists right now and you
24:31
Speaker 5: can collect little miniature baseball card size prints of local art.
24:35
Speaker 3: Talking again with Brian Cooper, vedeve Vallen Showing five eighty

26:12
Speaker 5: After August it really kicks in. By the end of

30:00
Speaker 3: Amanda Raimi from the City of Hurricane.
30:02
Speaker 9: Welcome to the show, Good morning, Thank you.
30:06
Speaker 3: All right, So what do we have on tap today?
30:09
Speaker 9: Boot Trek s Friday and Hurricane Our kickoff week is
30:12
Speaker 9: Twisted Grill, which is always a crowd favorite, Hill Billy Hibachi,
30:17
Speaker 9: and Scraggle Pop kettle Corn.
30:19
Speaker 3: Now, I have had Twisted Grill and have had this
30:23
Speaker 3: Scrabble the Scrabble Pop. I have not had Hill Billy Hibachi,
30:26
Speaker 3: but I got to tell you, I love the name already. So, uh,
30:29
Speaker 3: tell us about Hillbilly Hibachi.
30:31
Speaker 9: Yeah, we're excited. I think this is their first appearance
30:34
Speaker 9: in the Hurricane area, so we are excited to have them,
30:37
Speaker 9: and I'm sure they will be a crowd favorite as well.
30:39
Speaker 3: Can you give us an idea of some of what
30:41
Speaker 3: they have or do we know yet?
30:43
Speaker 9: Yeah, well, you know they've got your your typical hibachi,
30:47
Speaker 9: what you would expect at an Asian restaurant. But you know,
30:50
Speaker 9: they call themselves Hillbilly, so I'm sure they'll be at
30:52
Speaker 9: Cliff So.
30:53
Speaker 3: So what I'm hearing, as somebody who you know is
30:56
Speaker 3: kind of a hillbilly, I'm hearing that we're going to
30:59
Speaker 3: do a little few usion. But it may involve potted
31:02
Speaker 3: meat or spam. Is that is that a possibility?
31:04
Speaker 9: I don't know about that. I'm looking at their menu
31:06
Speaker 9: for today right now. They've got a chicken dinner, a
31:09
Speaker 9: steak dinner, shrimp dinner, chicken and steak, all three meats
31:12
Speaker 9: or vegetarian.
31:13
Speaker 4: So okay, all right.
31:15
Speaker 9: All combos include rice, noodles, veggies, and yum yum sauce.
31:18
Speaker 9: So there you go.
31:19
Speaker 3: You got to have the yum yum sauce, Amanda, you
31:21
Speaker 3: got to have the yum yum sauce.
31:23
Speaker 4: So you got all three of those here today. What
31:25
Speaker 4: time do you start?
31:27
Speaker 9: So it is eleven am until two pm?
31:29
Speaker 4: All right, so go ahead.
31:31
Speaker 9: Our sponsor this week is Putnham County Library, So while
31:34
Speaker 9: you're there, be sure to check out there's summer reading
31:37
Speaker 9: program and all the good things they've got going on.
31:39
Speaker 3: Big shout out to the Tarbs, Make and Target with
31:42
Speaker 3: the staff of the Putnam County Library.
31:44
Speaker 4: All right, So this thing starts around eleven o'clock.
31:46
Speaker 3: And how many years do you know, if the time
31:48
Speaker 3: you had it, approximately, how many years of the food
31:50
Speaker 3: truck Friday thing has been going on. It's been several years, right.
31:54
Speaker 9: At least ten years. I was trying to figure this
31:56
Speaker 9: out the other day. This might be our tenth year
31:59
Speaker 9: in fact. Okay, yeah, so a long time and people
32:03
Speaker 9: love it and we're just excited. Last year we moved
32:06
Speaker 9: it to Hurricane City Park and that was a great success.
32:08
Speaker 9: So if you've been in the past, just to make note,
32:11
Speaker 9: we are at City Park, not Main Street.
32:13
Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's I'm I really appreciate you pointing that
32:16
Speaker 3: out because for years, as you said, it was on
32:18
Speaker 3: the Main Street and Hurricane near the gazebo. Uh and
32:21
Speaker 3: you've kind of moved it away from there. You know,
32:23
Speaker 3: we've got we've had an active restaurant seen down in
32:26
Speaker 3: the city Hurricane and you can understand sometimes you know,
32:28
Speaker 3: they're like, I'm not saying that's what happened, but sometimes
32:31
Speaker 3: you're like, well, you're breaking food trucks in front of
32:32
Speaker 3: my restaurant. If I were a restaurant owner, I would
32:34
Speaker 3: completely understand that. Uh So, in big shout out to
32:38
Speaker 3: the folks at Bell Nap and Sergio's and others down there.
32:41
Speaker 3: So you're now in a hurricane, you're now in Hurricane
32:43
Speaker 3: City Park. For those who may be listening to us
32:46
Speaker 3: that may not know where Hurricane City Park is, explain.
32:49
Speaker 4: It to us.
32:50
Speaker 9: Yeah, it's right there by the reservoir in Hurricane, right
32:52
Speaker 9: on Tans Valley Road.
32:53
Speaker 4: So you can't miss it.
32:55
Speaker 9: You know where the reservoir is, you can't miss that.
32:56
Speaker 6: You just pull in.
32:57
Speaker 9: We'll have the trucks set up in the main parking lot.
33:00
Speaker 9: There's still plenty of parking for everybody. That's the nice
33:02
Speaker 9: thing about City Park. There's plenty of parking and plenty
33:04
Speaker 9: of room to.
33:05
Speaker 10: Spread out so well.
33:07
Speaker 3: And I don't know what the weather is going to
33:09
Speaker 3: become lunchtime, because we do have some scattered showers and
33:11
Speaker 3: thunderstorms expected, but what I'm hearing, I think it's going
33:14
Speaker 3: to be primarily later.
33:15
Speaker 4: So would be a great time, lungs.
33:18
Speaker 3: It's not too terribly hot for you to get out
33:20
Speaker 3: of the bank that you're in or the law office
33:22
Speaker 3: or whatever it is that you're doing, and.
33:25
Speaker 4: Head on down there and grab some grub today.
33:27
Speaker 9: Absolutely, and we'll have picnic tables and canopies just to
33:30
Speaker 9: have some shape. So it should be a nice afternoon.
33:34
Speaker 4: Now, do you do this every Friday?
33:36
Speaker 9: Every Friday in June and July with the exception this
33:39
Speaker 9: year of July fourth. So every Friday in June and
33:41
Speaker 9: July except for July.
33:42
Speaker 3: Fourth, and you have I'm assuming three different food vendors
33:47
Speaker 3: every week, right exactly.
33:49
Speaker 17: Yep.
33:49
Speaker 3: And you guys do a fantastic job on the City
33:52
Speaker 3: of Hurricanes social media and the Facebook page and whatever,
33:55
Speaker 3: so you always have a complete list of who's there.
33:57
Speaker 3: And so what I would urge you to do is
33:59
Speaker 3: if you're like me and you start are planning meals
34:00
Speaker 3: on Tuesday or Wednesday, you know for Friday, I would
34:03
Speaker 3: go check it out, look at it, go well, okay,
34:05
Speaker 3: this Friday, I definitely I definitely got a head there
34:07
Speaker 3: for a food truck Friday. Amanda Raymi is with us,
34:10
Speaker 3: all right, so let me ask you. I have you
34:12
Speaker 3: on here, Manda. We're getting in the summer months right now.
34:14
Speaker 3: I'm going to go ahead and give you an opportunity.
34:16
Speaker 3: We'll get back to the food trucks here at a moment,
34:18
Speaker 3: but to kind of preview what's going on within the
34:20
Speaker 3: City of Hurricane as we head into summer.
34:22
Speaker 9: Yeah, great, we have. Of course, we're looking forward to
34:26
Speaker 9: our July fourth Independence Day of celebration. It kicks off
34:29
Speaker 9: with a parade on July fourth at four o'clock this year,
34:33
Speaker 9: down Main Street. And then our festivities actually are at
34:36
Speaker 9: our brand new Hurricane Bridge Park at the Putnam County
34:39
Speaker 9: Bank Sports Complex, So we're excited to have have it there,
34:42
Speaker 9: spread out a little bit, and then that is a
34:45
Speaker 9: perfect fireworks viewing spot too, So the fireworks are at
34:48
Speaker 9: ten and away. As always, admission it's free, all the
34:52
Speaker 9: free games, all the free treats. We like to invite everybody.
34:57
Speaker 9: You don't have to be from Hurricanes.
34:59
Speaker 4: Anybody can come down, Anybody can come back.
35:02
Speaker 9: Absolutely.
35:02
Speaker 3: And I also want to mention I had earlier in
35:05
Speaker 3: the week, we had Kelly Steel on for Putnam County
35:07
Speaker 3: Tourism on the show and she was talking about, I
35:10
Speaker 3: know this is not specifically the City of Hurricane event,
35:12
Speaker 3: but it is going on at Valley Park. She was
35:13
Speaker 3: talking about the first ever coffee festival. It's sold out.
35:18
Speaker 4: It's and I'm not talking about it.
35:19
Speaker 3: I'm not talking about it sold out for vendors. I'm
35:22
Speaker 3: talking about for people buying tickets. It's completely sold out.
35:25
Speaker 3: Who would have I mean, I'm a coffee drinker, but
35:27
Speaker 3: who would have ever thought that coffee would be that popular?
35:29
Speaker 3: That they would sell that many tickets at Valley Park
35:32
Speaker 3: that they ran out of room for people in advance.
35:35
Speaker 6: Yeah.
35:35
Speaker 9: Absolutely, a little event they found they found the I.
35:41
Speaker 3: Mean there's you know, in a big shout out to
35:43
Speaker 3: Justin and the folks there because they do such a
35:44
Speaker 3: great job at Valley Park. And I know you guys
35:46
Speaker 3: have got a great relationship, you mayor Edwards in the
35:49
Speaker 3: city of hurric and have got such a great relationship.
35:51
Speaker 3: And look, I say it all the time. You know's
35:53
Speaker 3: so many activities going on. I was just talking about
35:55
Speaker 3: things going on at Charleston. Uh, I'm a little prejudiced
35:58
Speaker 3: toward Putnam County because that's where I But I'll tell
36:00
Speaker 3: you there is always something going on in Putnam County.
36:03
Speaker 3: I mean, you've got Farmers Market every Saturday. That's right
36:06
Speaker 3: off the tays Valley exit. Winfield. I know you don't
36:09
Speaker 3: say Winfield when you're talking to somebody from Hurricane, but
36:11
Speaker 3: just just bear with me for a moment. Okay, Winfield
36:14
Speaker 3: Water Sports Weekend is happening. This weekend starts it's tonight
36:19
Speaker 3: through tomorrow. So there's always something going on at Putnam County, right.
36:23
Speaker 9: Always, Yes, I always say, don't ever tell me there's
36:25
Speaker 9: nothing to do. There's always something to do, all right.
36:28
Speaker 4: Again, tell us who's going to be there for food
36:30
Speaker 4: truck Friday.
36:31
Speaker 9: Again we have Hillbilly, twisted Grill and stragapop today, all right.
36:36
Speaker 3: And that you'll be doing it every Friday except the
36:40
Speaker 3: first Friday, except for Fourth of July.
36:42
Speaker 4: Right every Friday except for that, yep.
36:45
Speaker 9: And check out our Facebook page. We post the new
36:47
Speaker 9: lineup every Monday morning.
36:49
Speaker 4: All right.
36:50
Speaker 3: Hey, Amanda, I appreciate you being here. Thank you so much,
36:53
Speaker 3: and we will talk again soon. Thanks a lot.
36:55
Speaker 4: Thanks for having me, Amanda.
36:57
Speaker 3: Raimi again from the City of Hurricane. Yeah, food trucks,
37:00
Speaker 3: food trucks. And if you didn't catch who what food
37:03
Speaker 3: trucks are going to be there? I got the graphic
37:06
Speaker 3: posted on my social media over on Dave Island Radio,
37:08
Speaker 3: so you can go check that out over there if
37:11
Speaker 3: you wish. A couple of quick things, and then we're
37:13
Speaker 3: going to talk to Dave Wilson about the State Baseball
37:16
Speaker 3: tournament that continues today at Gomart Ballpark. Earlier this week
37:20
Speaker 3: we told you about the Backpack Buddies program. That's a
37:23
Speaker 3: great event that we're happy to get the word out
37:25
Speaker 3: about where they get a bunch of people to gather
37:28
Speaker 3: and they pack up boxes of food mailed out over
37:30
Speaker 3: the summer to kids who may not have a lot
37:32
Speaker 3: to eat once the final school bell rings. Talked to
37:35
Speaker 3: Doug Irwin from the program last night, and due to
37:37
Speaker 3: the expected rain tomorrow, for the first time, believe it
37:41
Speaker 3: or not, in their thirteen year history, they are going
37:44
Speaker 3: to have to move the events. It's still happening, but
37:46
Speaker 3: they're going to move it indoors. They're actually going normally
37:49
Speaker 3: they do this on the parking lot of the Church
37:51
Speaker 3: of the Nazarene there in tays Valley. Doug tells me
37:54
Speaker 3: that they're going to have to move the event indoors
37:56
Speaker 3: tomorrow starting at ten. It's actually going to be at
37:58
Speaker 3: the old Kroger located in Tayese Valley, which is next
38:01
Speaker 3: to the current Kroger location. So if you want to
38:04
Speaker 3: help out, if you're planning on going there, they have,
38:05
Speaker 3: like you know, several one hundred people that take part
38:09
Speaker 3: in that. If you were planning on going there and
38:12
Speaker 3: helping out tomorrow, I know that they would appreciate that.
38:15
Speaker 3: But please note it will not be at the church there.
38:17
Speaker 3: It is actually now going to be inside the old
38:20
Speaker 3: Kroger location which is next to the new current. Okay, Also,
38:26
Speaker 3: I cannot say enough about the wonderful listeners, greatest listeners
38:30
Speaker 3: in the face of the earth that we have here.
38:31
Speaker 3: We had our first ever event with Union Missions Drop
38:35
Speaker 3: your Snacks event yesterday and I'm looking at the numbers.
38:39
Speaker 3: Rob Reel kind of compiled something here. This is how
38:42
Speaker 3: well we did yesterday with this thing, and not how
38:44
Speaker 3: well we did. How well you did. Rob said in
38:48
Speaker 3: an email that went out company wide today. There were
38:51
Speaker 3: two full trucks that went out of here, and based
38:54
Speaker 3: on the weight of the contents from the first truck,
38:56
Speaker 3: that's about a half a ton of snacks that we
39:00
Speaker 3: collected yesterday. Cash and check donations were in the three
39:03
Speaker 3: thousand dollars neighborhood, highlighted by a one thousand dollars check
39:09
Speaker 3: from the American Federation of Teachers group out of Greenbrier County.
39:13
Speaker 3: I mean, not even based in the Charleston area, based
39:16
Speaker 3: out of Greenbrier County. They heard about what we were
39:19
Speaker 3: doing and they cut.
39:20
Speaker 4: A check for that. So thank you so much again.
39:22
Speaker 3: Over three thousand dollars raised yesterday with our dropper snacks
39:27

Speaker 20: the CLASS double. A championship will Take On. Wheeling Central

Speaker 20: wheeling central with a ten to nothing Victory Over wyoming
44:51
Speaker 20: east in the first. Semi Final CLASS single a semi
44:54
Speaker 20: Final Be. EAST hardy I Think east hardy's a. Great
44:56
Speaker 20: story eight wins in the, regular season had a ton
44:58
Speaker 20: of injuries early overcame all. Of that win's, the region
45:03
Speaker 20: win's its semi, final game it goes on to the state.
45:07
Speaker 20: Championship game will Take On weirton madonna In The CLASS
45:10
Speaker 20: single a state Title game, saturday morning.
45:12
Speaker 3: And it's it always seems to me, Every, year dave
45:16
Speaker 3: that there is that one team in THE baseball churta
45:18
Speaker 3: BUT that i don't want to say shouldn't. Be there
45:20
Speaker 3: they played well enough they should. Be there but, on paper, you,
45:23
Speaker 3: think well this team probably you wouldn't suspect.
45:26
Speaker 20: To be there if you only look at it and
45:28
Speaker 20: you assume you're Talking About east harty in, this case
45:30
Speaker 20: if you only look at.
45:31
Speaker 4: The Record.
45:33
Speaker 20: But, east hardy where they, are located. Plays up so
45:37
Speaker 20: they Go, play martinsburg they Go, play hedgesville they go
45:40
Speaker 20: play these four, eight teams THESE three, a teams because
45:42
Speaker 20: there's just not a Lot OF class a teams in
45:44
Speaker 20: that part of. The state so that's, number one and,
45:46
Speaker 20: NUMBER two i go back to. The injuries they, lost
45:49
Speaker 20: three four five main starters early in. The season so
45:54
Speaker 20: you go through that early part of, the year you
45:55
Speaker 20: don't have your, main hitters you're missing a pitcher, or
45:58
Speaker 20: two it's. No wonder but late in the year these
46:01
Speaker 20: guys have. Come back this is now the team that
46:03
Speaker 20: the coach thought he would have heading into, the tournament
46:06
Speaker 20: and they got a chance to pull OFF what i
46:09
Speaker 20: think is a pretty memorable year to overcome all of,
46:11
Speaker 20: that diversity and you got a shot at the state Title,
46:13
Speaker 20: on saturday.
46:14
Speaker 3: Of course so we got some local teams that are
