- 0:00Ash, what was that Ricky Hatton story you were going to mention?
- 0:03You said you got a story in the chat.
- 0:05Oh, you know, the old Windsor club, yeah.
- 0:12So never in my life as it has there been like an illegal lock
- 0:16in. And they did one for that, for
- 0:20the Mayweather fight. So like.
- 0:22OK. I remember like there was like
- 0:2630 of us and yeah, we, I think we all like waited till like
- 0:32about 2:00 in the morning, maybe even 3:00 in the morning.
- 0:36And then like we went down to the old Windsor Club.
- 0:40Yeah, whatever time it started, like half four, yeah.
- 0:44Yeah. Oh, this makes sense then,
- 0:46because I I ordered the fight at home and I had like a few people
- 0:50around, including Chesney and I'm trying to work out how was I
- 0:54in that position Where well, one, I probably ordered it on
- 0:57box office and didn't tell dad and two.
- 1:00Where was I? Yeah.
- 1:01Where were you? Yeah.
- 1:02So that makes sense. Yeah.
- 1:06Because that's actually how how me and Chesney are friends
- 1:08because he's in the year below at Winter Boys.
- 1:11We're at the we're at the bus stop outside Windsor, boys.
- 1:14And I'm talking to some other people about watching the fight
- 1:18round ours on Saturday. And then Chess is waiting for
- 1:20the bus as well to go back to Old Windsor.
- 1:22Well. Can I come?
- 1:24Yeah, he overhears the combo and goes, oh, can I come round as
- 1:29well? And then that's.
- 1:30Classic chairs, to be fair. Chancer I think that's the fight
- 1:35that got me kind of into because I remember you like kind of
- 1:38watching Lewis, like vaguely like Lewis Tyson, all that type
- 1:42of stuff. But I was too young.
- 1:44But then the Hatton Mayweather one is the one I really remember
- 1:47like wanting to watch. And do you remember it was
- 1:49during the O seven O 8 season and Mayweather wore the United
- 1:53kit to piss off Hatton and it it was the kit that we won the
- 1:57Champions League in against Chelsea because it was that
- 1:59season. Yeah, those were the days.
- 2:16Let's kick it off. I'm Steve and I'm joined by Ash
- 2:21as Ron and Scott and we're only a few weeks into the season but
- 2:25it's the second emergency pod we've had to pull out the big
- 2:28guns again and that's because Manchester United lost three nil
- 2:33to Manchester City in the Derby at the Etihad on Sunday.
- 2:37Two goals from Holland, one from Foden and another embarrassing
- 2:43defeat against Manchester City over the years we've had
- 2:47recently. So Ron, I'm going to come to you
- 2:49first because I think you moved heaven and earth to get onto
- 2:52this pod. So I want to come to you first
- 2:55on the performance. I'm sure we'll talk about
- 2:56someone's job later and I'm not talking about Scott's.
- 2:59And tell tell me about the performance on the pitch.
- 3:03What did you make of our performance against Manchester
- 3:05City? What did I make of it?
- 3:08More of the same, really. You know, for me, it's like
- 3:12that. We're just going around in
- 3:13circles at the moment. I actually thought funnily
- 3:16enough we started off OK. If we break down the game, the
- 3:191st 10 minutes, 15 minutes, pretty good.
- 3:22We had probably 3 or 4 opportunities on the break to
- 3:25him. Didn't quite get the pass right
- 3:28in the end. But then, you know, the story
- 3:32starts and it's really more of the same 3 shocking goals to
- 3:36give away. The first Bruno, but actually
- 3:41started off with Luke Shaw, who really was very soft in the
- 3:45challenge. You know, he was very square on
- 3:49instead of being sort of shaping his body to try and get a tackle
- 3:53in. And then the ball comes in and
- 3:56Bruno loses folding completely. So we saw that in the Fulham
- 4:00game a couple of weeks back when you know the equaliser they
- 4:04scored again, I think it was Bruno not not really tracking
- 4:09his man and they scored from that.
- 4:12And it was similar again on Sunday.
- 4:15And then I thought we sort of City were in the game, you know
- 4:19they were, they were very good. They sort of controlled
- 4:23possession, controlled the game for about 1520 minutes or
- 4:25something that fast half. But we started to sort of get to
- 4:29grips better with the game. I thought as the first half
- 4:31progressed, went in one nil down at half time.
- 4:35Second-half came out again, started very well, first 5 or 6
- 4:39minutes in the second-half and then the second goal again, you
- 4:42know, that was a very sloppy goal to give away.
- 4:46You know, how Luke Shore and Harry was it McGuire and I was
- 4:50delayed, you know, couldn't really handle Holland.
- 4:54That just shouldn't be happening at sort of this level of level
- 4:57of football. And then again, the third goal,
- 5:00you know, a counter attack space and behind and Holland with a
- 5:03great finish. So it was it was really
- 5:06disappointing from that perspective.
- 5:08But you know, ultimately results speak for themselves.
- 5:12And you know, if we look at the record now that Ruben has eight
- 5:16wins out of 31 games, win ratio of 25%, we're back to the
- 5:22scoring board. Yeah, interesting.
- 5:25I mean, you acknowledge that we had like a decent open in 10
- 5:28minutes. I was watching it with Scott and
- 5:29I think, you know, we thought the same.
- 5:31We were kind of getting into the final third.
- 5:32So I'm really intrigued to hear from us because the Let's Kick
- 5:35It Off community are quite concerned because I've not heard
- 5:38from him in a while, so thankfully he's alive #1 #2.
- 5:42What did you make of the game as from your perspective, how did
- 5:45you see it? Did you think that we played
- 5:47well at all or? Yeah.
- 5:49What? What did you make of it?
- 5:51Do you mean they worry about me? I've been around.
- 5:53I was on the last pod. They not listen to the podcast.
- 5:56Wait, Seven days is a long time in football.
- 6:00That's the price. I was just doing my maths and I
- 6:04was like Ron just said we've won a out of 31.
- 6:06I'm sure that's more than 25%. It's it's, it's 26% run 25.8.
- 6:12Get it right. We'll give you, we'll give you
- 6:1426. Good stats though.
- 6:18Is that Gary rounding? Gary rounding?
- 6:20Yeah, exactly. What was the?
- 6:22Question, you want to know what the loss is percentage out of
- 6:25that? No, no, no.
- 6:26What was the question against? No, I genuinely, I genuinely
- 6:29want to know whether you think how, how you think we played.
- 6:33Yeah, no, we didn't play well, right?
- 6:34You lose 3 nil. It was.
- 6:39It was. It was 3/2 on XG though.
- 6:41Yeah, it was. I mean, I, I kind of runs
- 6:45analysis I think was basically spot on.
- 6:47We started the game well and then stupid goal, silly goal we
- 6:53hadn't. We've got a good defence, that's
- 6:55what you keep telling us. No, I keep I I I keep saying
- 6:59that the we probably need the extra man at the back because we
- 7:03need the extra bodies and the bodies were there, but Bruno
- 7:07doesn't track. I was a bit lucky because it
- 7:09like, you know, it kind of fumbles around off Agate I
- 7:12think. But if Bruno tracks Foden,
- 7:15there's enough players in the box to stop that goal.
- 7:17And then the the second one, I thought that was just class City
- 7:19play. I keep saying Harlan's the best
- 7:21striker in the world and he just bullied.
- 7:23Sure. And great finish.
- 7:25He should have scored another one.
- 7:26I remember when I was thinking, man, why didn't I kept him in
- 7:30FPL? He's like an open goal, missed
- 7:32opportunity situation. Right.
- 7:34And he sure, he should have had a hat trick and the the one
- 7:37where it was a thing was a third goal, wasn't it, where he's on
- 7:40side in his own half. You're like, this is, yeah,
- 7:43comical, comical. But what what finished?
- 7:46You know, if if you know Cesco's in the same position, He's not.
- 7:52It was it was a Clark class from Harland.
- 7:54So, yeah, we didn't play well. We didn't deserve to get
- 7:57anything from the game. I thought City were better than
- 8:02they've been, you know, so far this season.
- 8:05They really stepped it up and we individually, there's a lot of
- 8:09players who got him, made a lot of individual errors.
- 8:12I thought sure was poor. I didn't.
- 8:16I didn't get Reuben's team selection.
- 8:18It was a bit weird. I mean, I don't know if you want
- 8:19to talk about that. I thought when Cunha and Mount
- 8:24were out, who are big losses, I think they've started the season
- 8:26really well. I really thought he'd put Bruno
- 8:29into that right left hand 10 role.
- 8:31He played Amad there, which is just, I was like when I saw, I
- 8:35don't know you guys, when I saw the team selection, like where's
- 8:38Amad playing? I don't get it.
- 8:39I didn't understand where he been for the last 9-10 months.
- 8:43You know what he's going to do. I've never seen Amad play left
- 8:46wing. Oh no, it's not the conservative
- 8:48thing. I would have been just as
- 8:49conservative. I mean, we were discussing it
- 8:51last week. I was like, oh, I can imagine
- 8:54he'll bring in an extra, but I thought he'd play the extra
- 8:58midfielder and put blue no up one basically.
- 9:01So I don't think that wasn't being more more or less
- 9:03conservative. I was just surprised that Kobe
- 9:05didn't start, was a bit weird. He explained he.
- 9:08Made a comment didn't he, about a man played during the week in
- 9:13the international game as one of the number 10s on the left hand
- 9:16side and pre match. Ruben had sort of alluded to
- 9:19that when they asked him the question.
- 9:21Oh, I'm out in the 10. And that's what he'd said.
- 9:24But he explained Kobe. He didn't, Yeah, but he
- 9:28explained about Kobe before the game with Sky, he said like he
- 9:31didn't want like another like dribbler, extra body in central
- 9:36midfield. He wanted a dribbler.
- 9:39So no, that's why. Yeah, fair enough.
- 9:43But I was just surprised. I was surprised.
- 9:45I've never seen Ahmed play left side.
- 9:48So I was, I was thinking we're doing our team of the years.
- 9:53I was reminiscing about that where Steve put Imbumo on left
- 9:57and we were joking about it. But you know, Steve clearly you
- 10:00know about, you know, things about Reuben and how he could,
- 10:04you know, play, play players out of positions.
- 10:06That was a bit odd. But yeah, generally speak the
- 10:10the annoying thing was as definitely City deserved to win.
- 10:15I felt we had lots of these situations where the execution,
- 10:18the final execution was just lacking.
- 10:21There was just these moments. We're at 4:00 on 4/3 on three
- 10:25where the past was bad. Dogu had a lot of situations
- 10:28like that. We're like, Dogu's there.
- 10:30There's three men charging the box and he hits the first man
- 10:33and just like oh come on, please pass it to your team mate.
- 10:38So not just that, it just cut cut him back as well.
- 10:41Like when you should be taking the guy on.
- 10:43I thought he was really poor. Yeah, I don't, I don't think
- 10:47like his his general, like he defended quite well and he had a
- 10:50lot of energy and he was really important in the press.
- 10:53But on the ball in the final third I just felt if only we had
- 10:58someone bet or he was better in those moments and at 22 sorry
- 11:04two nil as well. There was and and Bomo had a
- 11:07really great shot. Great say from Donna rumour if
- 11:10that goes in you're wondering. Oh so that you know it was
- 11:13closer than the three nil but I think City 3 point well
- 11:17deserved. Yeah.
- 11:19OK. Yeah, I was in.
- 11:21I was asked interested to ask you because you know, there's a
- 11:25a lot of fans, Man United fans out there that are kind of back
- 11:28in the fact that we're playing better than the results are
- 11:31suggesting. So I thought I would ask that
- 11:33question. Ash, I want to hear from you.
- 11:36Anything you'd want to add to kind of the summary we've heard
- 11:39so far? And did you see anything
- 11:40differently? No, I I thought the boys spot
- 11:44on. I'd I'd say probably the only
- 11:46insight from my side was I think it was about 20 odd minutes in,
- 11:50maybe before even the goal to what Ron was saying about
- 11:56execution of that final pass or that, you know, final cross in
- 12:00good areas. We just kept on messing it up
- 12:03and I just thought we're really, really poor team as in I don't
- 12:08you know, obviously you know, my thoughts on the coaching element
- 12:11of it, but I'm really interested to know like if like we had a
- 12:15competent manager, like just how good this team would be.
- 12:21I think the ceiling's quite high still, but like I did think like
- 12:25this is just a really bang average team just generally.
- 12:29So not even comparing against United.
- 12:31Great. It's just if I was just a
- 12:33neutral watching that game, I just think that's a really
- 12:36uncoordinated and lacking confidence team.
- 12:40You can see even in the defence and I think as weeks go by, it
- 12:46feels like, you know, the confidence is just going to
- 12:48strip away. The attack looks blunt even
- 12:52though XG might suggest otherwise.
- 12:54I think the other thing on xga, lot of those chances were
- 12:57created once it was like 2-3 nil.
- 12:59So it's kind of like, you know, does doesn't really matter.
- 13:02It's like the six three a couple of years ago, right.
- 13:06So yeah, I mean, yeah, not not much really further to add to be
- 13:10honest, really. So Scott, you can vouch for the
- 13:12fact that I did just before kickoff say I've got a bad
- 13:16feeling and I did say 3 nil city, right?
- 13:18So first of all, you can vouch for me on that.
- 13:20And secondly, yeah, what did you make of the performance?
- 13:23I know what you made of the performance because I was
- 13:25sitting next to you and you're complaining for 90 minutes.
- 13:27But tell the Tell the listeners what you made of it.
- 13:30No, I think well, the guys are some job pretty well, to be
- 13:33honest. Yeah, didn't play well.
- 13:35Formation, starting lineup was questionable, no matter what the
- 13:41stats tell you. I know I saw the I think you
- 13:44shared the stats wasn't whether we had more possession and more
- 13:48passes. Don't mean anything, doesn't
- 13:51take I'm going to can't get in the back of the net and
- 13:53unfortunately they've got a striker they can get back in the
- 13:55net and we haven't. So they've got a goalkeeper as
- 13:58well. So yeah, I've got nothing else
- 14:01to add against that performance. Typical.
- 14:05It's the same thing. It's just their teams find us
- 14:07out all the time. You know, 1st 1015 minutes, you
- 14:10look OK, it's exactly the same thing and follow them.
- 14:13Did exactly the same thing against Arsenal and they they
- 14:16find us out, which is right through the core of the team
- 14:19unfortunately. What about you, Steve?
- 14:23Yeah, not surprised like I thought.
- 14:27I thought we would lose before kick off.
- 14:29I I could understand the case for people saying oh, I can see
- 14:33US winning or getting a result. You know, based on the facts
- 14:35that Ruben has looked solid against better teams in the past
- 14:40and City where on the back of a couple of defeats.
- 14:44I could understand that. But I'll be honest, I don't
- 14:47trust these guys. Luke Shaw making these mistakes
- 14:49is not a surprise. You can't trust this guy.
- 14:52You cannot trust this guy. We get excited.
- 14:54He plays a good game once every season in a big game.
- 14:57We get excited. Oh, he can play.
- 14:59He can play the season. He hasn't played more than five
- 15:02games and God knows how long. His mate Mason Mount, who's
- 15:06probably at McDonald's with him the night before, that guy can't
- 15:09be trusted either. These guys have let us down year
- 15:12after year after year. So I don't trust any of these
- 15:15lot. So let's get on to the elephant
- 15:18in the room now, because Reuben Ameren, your record, my friend,
- 15:24is fucking atrocious. It's the worst Premier League
- 15:27record we've ever seen in our whole lives as Manchester United
- 15:31fans. That is fact.
- 15:32That is not opinion, right? So that is a fact.
- 15:35Even the Reuben Inn people can, cannot dispute that, right?
- 15:38These are facts. You know, Ron mentioned the
- 15:40stats earlier as well. So the question is, is Reuben
- 15:44Ameren the right man to take us forward?
- 15:47So before we come on to your views, I did put a poll out in
- 15:50the Manchester United community today just to get a feel.
- 15:53You know, there's only twenty of us in there, but you know, it's
- 15:55a decent representation, so. 20,000 a few months time.
- 16:00Yeah, exactly. But I guess, you know, I could
- 16:04have put the poll as the options as Reuben in or Reuben out.
- 16:08We know there's a bit more new and nuance to life.
- 16:11So I try to do it as a bit of a scale, whether people are 100%
- 16:14Reuben in, 100% Reuben out. And I think Scott, Ash and Ron,
- 16:20you're fully Reuben out on the Reubenometer.
- 16:23And then in terms of the rest of the guys and there's no girls in
- 16:27there, the rest of the guys in there, it's it's basically
- 16:30split. So you've got 6-6 people that
- 16:33are saying essentially don't sack him because, and the reason
- 16:37I put next to it was they can't take another manager.
- 16:39So you've got kind of half of the guys on that side saying
- 16:43they just they can't go through that cycle again and about half
- 16:47saying he has to go. So Ron, again, I'm going to come
- 16:49to you on this one. There's no way back for Reuben,
- 16:53right? In your opinion?
- 16:55There was no way back for Reuben after the Europa League final
- 16:59and yet he's still here. To your point around record, I
- 17:03think you've been kind to him to say in our lifetime he's the
- 17:06worst Premier League manager that was, he's the worst United
- 17:09manager that we've had since the Second World War.
- 17:11If you look at the stats, his win ratio is 36 and I was just
- 17:16for you in terms of the exact percentage of 36.17% is his win
- 17:22ratio. That's the worst since the
- 17:25Second World War. You can.
- 17:27Talk about with McGinnis, Frank O'farrell, Dave Sexton, They all
- 17:31had better win rates than Mr Ruben Amarim.
- 17:35The feature is Blake. The question you've got to ask
- 17:38yourself is can this guy turn it around?
- 17:41Because if he, if you believe he can, then fine, we stick with
- 17:46him. But if you really ask yourself
- 17:49the question, is this guy capable of turning it around?
- 17:53And there's no point hoping that we think he can because the last
- 17:56year or so shows to us that he hasn't shown anything.
- 18:00You know, we've had a great result against Man City away
- 18:02this time last year. But apart from that, I'm trying
- 18:05to think of a result that he's pulled out and I can't think of
- 18:081 apart from Man City. Yes, we've had the glimpses in
- 18:11the Europa League games, you know, the semi finals, the
- 18:14moments, you know, Harry Maguire, Kobe menu, last minute
- 18:18goals, but in terms of an actual win, apart from the Man City
- 18:22game, I can't think of 1 result. And the biggest flaw of course
- 18:25is we can keep coming back to it as a system.
- 18:28You know, you've got to get the best out of your players and
- 18:31unfortunately this system is really hindering the players
- 18:35from performing at their absolute best.
- 18:37We spoke about it on the last part and we'll talk about it
- 18:39again. Our best player over the last
- 18:41four to five seasons has been Bruno Fernandez, playing him
- 18:45deeper in the central midfield role he cost US against Fulham.
- 18:48And it wasn't only just him to be fair, but you know, he was
- 18:50partly to blame for the goal and again, the first goal against
- 18:54Man City yesterday. He, it's just not his game.
- 18:57He's not going to be able to be disciplined enough going back
- 19:00the other way. Get him doing what he does best
- 19:03and that is creating in the number 10 position.
- 19:06We talk about wingbacks. She made a really good point
- 19:09earlier about dual goo and the quality.
- 19:12You know, we've got dual goo, we've got on the other side if
- 19:14Ahmed plays wing back or we've got Dalo, we've got Mazzarowi
- 19:18playing higher than Bruno Fernandez who's playing deeper.
- 19:22That in any system just doesn't make any sense to me.
- 19:24So if we're going to continue with this guy, he's not going to
- 19:27change. He said it since day one.
- 19:29He confirmed that yesterday again when asked by the media.
- 19:32He's not going to change his system.
- 19:35So unfortunately this is only going to end one way and we've
- 19:38seen in a roundabout pre Christmas we've seen going back
- 19:42to Ollie Mourinho 10 hog unfortunately the writings on
- 19:46the wall pre Christmas. If this continues, here'd be
- 19:49another one to add to the the Christmas Present list.
- 19:53Us being genuine here, not, not not Dreamland or what you would
- 19:59like to happen. Can you see Ruben turning this
- 20:03around? Oh.
- 20:05Yeah. I mean, yeah, it's possible.
- 20:07It doesn't. That's not the question.
- 20:09No, no. Can you see it happening?
- 20:11As in, do you believe it will happen?
- 20:13I don't think it'll happen, no, but I can.
- 20:15It's possible, Yeah. I don't, I don't think there's
- 20:18any reason to think he'll turn it around, right?
- 20:22Because it's, it's been so bad that, you know, 25.830 whatever
- 20:29on all the stats, all those managers I've never heard of
- 20:32that you're naming as well that he's worse.
- 20:35I don't think there's any reason to say that he should turn it
- 20:37around. The question is the real
- 20:40question is, you mentioned Steve, this player's a disgrace.
- 20:45This other one's a disgrace. You can't trust them, right?
- 20:47And then, you know, this one's lacking confidence or what you
- 20:52know, how much do you associate that with the manager?
- 20:54And if a new manager comes in, do those players stop being a
- 20:57disgrace and we start winning games or are they still a
- 21:02disgrace? It's it's twofold.
- 21:04I think the manager will add or bring a certain element to a
- 21:09team and you know can make players perform and then you
- 21:12are, it is also going to depend on the quality of the squad.
- 21:15So I don't think you know they are, they are two separate
- 21:18points essentially. So I believe a manager quite
- 21:21clearly could do better than Ruben is doing because it's not
- 21:24hard basically. But I still don't trust those
- 21:27players because I've always said this, my goal is to get back to
- 21:30number one. I'm not interested in finishing
- 21:337th or 8th. So right, I think you need but
- 21:35you need both so. This is this is this is now the
- 21:37next question, right? Do you?
- 21:43If he's trying to do a rebuild, why so you mentioned the the the
- 21:48survey 6 and I don't know what the numbers were, but the city
- 21:53game should not have changed your opinion about Reuben
- 21:55staying or going right? You need to you need to give
- 21:57this a bit more time. I don't I think it's going to
- 22:00fail, but to to sack him now would be just weird.
- 22:03You if you were to sack him now, it's because you wanted him gone
- 22:06in the summer like Ron and Ash wanted him gone, which make
- 22:09makes sense. You, you you haven't changed
- 22:11your mind, but the people who wanted to keep him, such as
- 22:14yourself and me, we should be a question for you.
- 22:19You did a fan survey as well on who do you think would win the
- 22:22league. Did anyone say Man City?
- 22:25Yes, a couple of people. So there are certain people out
- 22:28there who and that's not as crazy.
- 22:31This is City under Guardiola, have won many seven Premier
- 22:34League titles since we've won one and we're going to their
- 22:38home. So to lose against them is like
- 22:40we lost, we've lost against them under 10 hog under Ollie, under
- 22:43Mourinho and everyone, right. So that's not a big deal.
- 22:47This result shouldn't change your mind.
- 22:50What's more interesting is the games coming up up to the
- 22:54international break, Chelsea, Brentford, Sunderland and then
- 22:58post that as well. I wouldn't sack him now.
- 23:03I think though, the trend is suggesting he will not be able
- 23:06to succeed and he will eventually go and then we're
- 23:08going to have to have a decision on who you're going to bring.
- 23:11And then the next question is, you made the point, Steve.
- 23:14I want someone who's I'm not interested in just stabilising.
- 23:19So your next guy, is it the guy who's stabilising or do you have
- 23:24someone in mind to win the league?
- 23:26And that's the bigger problem is that I keep saying the same
- 23:29thing overnight. The last two that you picked
- 23:32though, have been fired finishing eighth and you know,
- 23:35potentially 15 seventeenth again.
- 23:38So you need to, you need to think about like where we are as
- 23:42a club because you you say all the time patience, patience.
- 23:46So therefore I'm. Not talking about what I'm
- 23:48talking about. Don't talk about me.
- 23:50Talk about Steve. You need to tell Steve this,
- 23:52that he. Needs no, his plan, his plan is
- 23:55is like a five year long term plan, right?
- 23:57So he's patient enough that we're not gonna win the league
- 24:01for the next 2-3 years. So I don't know if he needs a
- 24:03state, a stabiliser guy 1st and then the cherry on top.
- 24:07But the point is, like you keep saying, like we need these like
- 24:11high ceiling managers, but we're not at that level, these players
- 24:15that you love. They're not that level.
- 24:17They're not like they can't stay, they can't stay fit.
- 24:21And this is they've shown over a multitude of years that they
- 24:24can't do it. Of all the managers we've had
- 24:28that are willing to make a significant change, Ruben's come
- 24:32in and gotten these players aren't good enough.
- 24:34I'm bomb squatting half of you. I'm bringing in new guys and
- 24:38that's going to take like the guys he's brought in look decent
- 24:41to me. Cuna and Burmo, right?
- 24:43They look decent. And so he's got the same
- 24:48opinion. That takes a bit of time.
- 24:49So that's the thing. He's ruthless.
- 24:52He's he's ruthless with these players.
- 24:54He has high standards and he's won a couple of league titles.
- 24:58Yeah, in Portugal. Let's let, let's get that right.
- 25:00Like I'm, I'm sick and tired of like hearing this because it's
- 25:03like it's Portugal and it's actually 2-3 years ago now,
- 25:07right? It's like it's in the past, like
- 25:09football moves on very quickly. And also, can I, can I ask us
- 25:12because you, you've made this point in the past, right?
- 25:14You you've said if something's not working, yeah, why stick
- 25:19with it? So you.
- 25:20You. You just said a minute ago this
- 25:22isn't going to work, essentially.
- 25:23So why? Why are you?
- 25:24Why are you sticking with it? Well, come on to me.
- 25:26We don't need to talk about me. We'll talk about you first.
- 25:29I've already declared my position a few weeks ago and
- 25:31that's not changed. What about you?
- 25:33You're saying it's not going to work, so why are you sticking?
- 25:35I'm saying it's it's it's unlikely to work, but I think
- 25:39that if you've decided, like I had in the summer, that we
- 25:42should let it let it go. You need to give him more to
- 25:45this is not the right time now after what is it 4 league games?
- 25:49Is it for how many league games we played?
- 25:50Four. You can't you can't go.
- 25:52Oh, you know what had one opinion and four games later,
- 25:56I've got a different opinion that just that would make mean
- 25:58I'm I'm I'm a psychopath. So no, it no, it would mean that
- 26:02you look at what what happens and you and you change your
- 26:05mind. There's no crime in these four
- 26:07games. It's that like we've picked up
- 26:10one win against Burnley. It doesn't matter.
- 26:12The four in the four games, nothing's drastic.
- 26:14That OK The one thing that would change my mind.
- 26:16We lost to Grimsby. No, that, that, that, that, that
- 26:19is shocking that I can't defend. But the one thing that would
- 26:22change my mind is, and I don't know this answer, we'd need to
- 26:25ask the dressing room, have you lost faith in the manager?
- 26:28If they've lost faith in the manager, get rid of him
- 26:31tomorrow. What's rid of take?
- 26:33What's rid of him from the outside?
- 26:35No. What's your take from the
- 26:36outside? Looking in?
- 26:38It doesn't. Feel like it.
- 26:39It feels I've. Got I've got some, I've got some
- 26:41Intel on this. So when I dropped you off Scott
- 26:44and I was driving back home, the trusted source that is talk
- 26:47sport, I think Alan Pargi said they're hearing on the Grapevine
- 26:51that the players are now unhappy.
- 26:53He specifically mentioned Bruno is not happy.
- 26:56And if you think about it, this actually makes sense, right?
- 26:59Because when you trace it back to that Fulham game and he hit,
- 27:01he had that weird ass reaction with the with the ref bumping
- 27:05him. You only have that type of
- 27:07reaction if you are holding something.
- 27:09Kim, right. We've all been there When you
- 27:11when you just erupt and that's because you're pissed off or
- 27:14something's going on. So I can see that and and Bruno
- 27:17is the one playing in the two right where we can all see he's
- 27:20been overrun. So those noises are now coming
- 27:23out. Did anyone see the Bruno
- 27:26interview after the game? Yes, I was going to mention that
- 27:29that was. Really telling because even
- 27:34though he was obviously talking about how Yoro had to, you know,
- 27:38push up, I think that was almost like a dig, like the strategy
- 27:44and, yeah, the way they're playing as a team.
- 27:47I don't know. Scott, did you see the
- 27:49interview? What did he think?
- 27:51Yeah. The whole I think what has just
- 27:56said about Padre, I just actually listened to that this
- 27:58morning and it it it's a bit damning.
- 28:02And I think Reuben mentioned it Grimsby where the players just
- 28:07basically, they didn't even bother turning up.
- 28:11And then when he starts getting those kind of segments within
- 28:15the in the dressing room that just don't believe in the
- 28:18manager, then I think, you know, as is, right?
- 28:20It's just you've got to get rid of him quickly because you can't
- 28:23wait until the next international.
- 28:25You can't wait until Christmas. Too late.
- 28:27We'll never, we won't finish in the top half.
- 28:29And you know, if even if that's an option at the moment.
- 28:34So yeah, no, I just it, it, the scenario I use is like it's it's
- 28:39like your wife coming to you and saying I'm going to divorce you
- 28:42if you don't change. And then a couple of months
- 28:45later, you've got your head in your hands and you were you're
- 28:48wondering why you're divorced. Is that stubborn?
- 28:53He just, he needs to look at it and kind of go, I understand the
- 28:56philosophy, A philosophy doesn't get implemented from day one and
- 29:01you stick with it. You have to adapt.
- 29:04And at the moment he has an inability to adapt to this
- 29:09league. And at the moment he can't find
- 29:11a winner, can't buy a win. So I just look at it and kind of
- 29:14go, if he's that stubborn in this type of league, which is
- 29:20absolutely punishing, then isn't somebody not knocking on his
- 29:25door to say, no, you've got to change something?
- 29:26I said this last time, somebody has to say something to him to
- 29:30say, look, you've got to get results.
- 29:33It might mean that you've got to throw your philosophy out the
- 29:35window to the time being to get results because otherwise
- 29:39confidence is going to get lower.
- 29:41Why is it going to start revolving and then he's going to
- 29:43be out the door and he's going to look back on it and kind of
- 29:46go and I wish I'd changed something.
- 29:47He's a young manager, but I think he's very naive with this.
- 29:52He's got to look at it from a Plan B perspective.
- 29:54At the moment he doesn't have one and he keeps talking about
- 29:57it doesn't matter about the formation, it's clearly does.
- 30:00You can clearly see it. This doesn't work anywhere else.
- 30:04It's not been proven anywhere else.
- 30:06So how does he think this is going to work?
- 30:09And when you've got players in positions, we do not have a
- 30:12natural wingback. So why play wingbacks?
- 30:15There's not one natural wing back in that team that can
- 30:18actually create 10/15/20 plus assists each year and score 5 or
- 30:2410 goals. You know, there's nothing being
- 30:27created and you know, one's right in terms of you've got
- 30:31your, you know, your number 10, your best number 10 for the past
- 30:34few years playing inside the midfield and that side of
- 30:37midfield position. He he can't play it.
- 30:41And. And the goal that folding
- 30:43scored, Yeah, OK, you can argue that we should have cut the
- 30:46cross out. The tackle should have been a
- 30:47bit more stronger. There's a little bit of luck
- 30:49with the deflection. And then, yeah.
- 30:52But it was his man. He let his man go.
- 30:54He's a centre midfielder. There's no discipline there with
- 30:57the guy. So right, head towards.
- 31:02Me because I think Bruno, you know, I don't blame him for
- 31:09these goals, like the Fulham goal and like the City goal
- 31:11because you know what, he's what he's like.
- 31:14He's played at this club for like 6-7 years.
- 31:17The big decision and Steve, we discussed it on the pod a few
- 31:20weeks ago was when the Saudi move was there to be done,
- 31:24right? Because as a club they should
- 31:27have realised we either have to play around Bruno, based his
- 31:32whole team around Bruno or sell him because that's what Ollie
- 31:35did. That's how Ollie got the best
- 31:37out of him, right? Like we put bodies around him so
- 31:40that he could focus on creating, didn't have to worry about
- 31:43running or tracking, right, because we had Mcfred and that's
- 31:46what you got to do as a manager or even as a football club, like
- 31:49have foot, have a football idea. And that's what we've
- 31:52questioned, right, with Omar Barada, does he really know what
- 31:55he's doing? Because he brought in a manager
- 31:57who plays wing backs and a system that this club just, it's
- 32:01just never agreed with, right. But like, I am going to defend
- 32:04Bruno on this, like I, I hear it every week.
- 32:06Like he's not tracking back. Fine.
- 32:09But we've all played with footballers who don't track
- 32:11back. So you play to their strengths.
- 32:13You can't keep blaming the guy as much as it is like his fault
- 32:18in terms of those moments. But yeah, it's, it's one of
- 32:21those rare occasions I'm going to defend him in terms of like
- 32:25the player side of it. I'm way more worried about the
- 32:28manager than I am about the players.
- 32:31Just going back to the point about adapting, you know, I
- 32:33thought Guardiola's comments post match were telling even
- 32:36he's adapting. This is the best manager well
- 32:39since Fergie and he is adapting. So Ruben isn't going to adapt,
- 32:45unfortunately. That's why the writing's on the
- 32:46wall. You know, this system doesn't
- 32:48work, hasn't worked. I know Conte won it with
- 32:50Chelsea, but he had, you know, Matage and Kante.
- 32:54Was it in midfield? He had dynamic midfield players
- 32:57that could run. He had a world class we don't
- 32:59have run and a world class goalkeeper, Yeah.
- 33:02Absolutely he hasn't. He's never, he's never been seen
- 33:04before, though, has it? That's the thing that, that,
- 33:07that you've not seen it ever again.
- 33:10It it, you know, it's once in a Millennium.
- 33:12There's a reason why managers don't play this right.
- 33:14There's a reason behind it. Look at the data, it tells you
- 33:17everything you need to know. So why is it we think this is
- 33:20going to work? And for me, the longer this goes
- 33:22on, the harder it is. The biggest indictment to me was
- 33:26yesterday when Gary Neville said it doesn't even hurt anymore.
- 33:31And you know, Steve, before we came on, to me, it's like you
- 33:34compare it to breaking up with a girlfriend and actually doesn't
- 33:38hurt anymore. We don't care anymore.
- 33:40Why? Because actually, that relation
- 33:42didn't matter anymore. And is that what our fans are
- 33:44feeling at the moment? That's what you know, that's
- 33:46what it's coming to. This has gone on for so long now
- 33:48that the longer this continues, the more it just becomes part of
- 33:51our life. It's just the norm that
- 33:53Manchester United are losing football matches.
- 33:56Here's another start for you. 17 teams in the Premier League.
- 33:59I'm going to discount the three that got relegated, the three
- 34:02that got promoted this season. Out of those 17, United have
- 34:06bottomed since Ameren joined. How low does it need to go?
- 34:12As you may, you're talking about you don't believe it's going to
- 34:15change, but four games in, you can't fire him, but you can't
- 34:20move away from the stats, the data, It's all heading in One
- 34:24Direction. Yes, one thing I made point on
- 34:27the on the last part for me like you have to wipe last season and
- 34:30start again because it's it's a fresh start.
- 34:33So I will give him. That is it though.
- 34:34I mean, this is the continuation of last season.
- 34:36Why? Why would it be a fresh start?
- 34:39Because this is the thing like this is the question of do you
- 34:43think this is a really good group of players that is being
- 34:48mismanaged or are there issues that he's trying to resolve?
- 34:52Like did he do the right thing with this with Garnacho Anthony,
- 34:55etcetera, etcetera. And he making all these big.
- 34:58He's made quite large changes to the squad and he keeps looking
- 35:02to make large changes to the squad.
- 35:04A few new signings have come in that you know, do you do you
- 35:07give him a bit of time? I think you if you if you were
- 35:10keeping him, you have to give him a bit of time because we've
- 35:13played four games of which two of the one and two 1-2 of the
- 35:18top three teams in the league, right?
- 35:21One of them we played quite well in the other one we deserve to
- 35:24lose. But you know, like I said, if
- 35:27your expectation is for us to finish 6th or 7th, we should
- 35:30lose to City at the Etihad. I mean, that's just normal.
- 35:33The question now comes, well, the.
- 35:34Moment We're finishing 17th. Yes.
- 35:37So the question now comes like what happen happens in the next
- 35:40few games? If he's lost a dressing room you
- 35:43should have, you should definitely get rid of the guy.
- 35:45There's no point. Because isn't isn't the key
- 35:47question. And as you've always mentioned
- 35:49this, yes, you can say you're going to sack a manager, but who
- 35:51are you bringing in? Yeah, who are you going to bring
- 35:53in? And this is the thing does does
- 35:54that person rescue the season? Because if he's lost the
- 35:58dressing room, that person does because anyone, this is what I
- 36:01said with 10 hug, is that anyone can come in and it would be
- 36:04better because it was toxic. When Mourinho was at the end of
- 36:08his thing, I was like, get rid of him.
- 36:09Anyone will come in and it will be be better because the the
- 36:13there will be a lift from the existing playing squad, right?
- 36:16Well, I can, I can reveal to you as because I think Ron you told
- 36:20me in Ash in private, but Ron you've got a suggestion to put
- 36:23forward in terms of manager and assistant, right.
- 36:25And I think us might buy into it.
- 36:27So please, Ron, come forward. Come on.
- 36:30Gareth Southgate. No, not Gareth Southgate
- 36:34McKenna. You're not going to give me
- 36:36Southgate McKenna and Carrick. No.
- 36:39OK, you've. Got one of them, you've got one
- 36:41of them in there. Definitely just before I go to
- 36:44my no, it's not McKenna either. Just before that suggestion.
- 36:49I think you've got to look at it and say you look at our squad
- 36:51and Scott, you and I have spoken about this many times.
- 36:54You look at our squad and actually a 433 you can bring in
- 36:58anyone and straight away where you would like to think
- 37:01performances would improve, results would improve and we
- 37:05would have us at least in the top 10.
- 37:08Just by playing that 433, you'd have a back four.
- 37:10You'd have Maserati right back, you'd have Doggy left back
- 37:13probably you'd have delete and Euro and then you'd have your 3.
- 37:17Here we go. Kobe menu gets a start, You'd
- 37:20have Casamaro menu and Bruno in the 10, Kenya and and Boemo and
- 37:26then you've got Cesco up front. In terms of what I would do now
- 37:30if we were to get rid of Ruben, I would go the interim with
- 37:35Michael Carrick and Ollie gonna Soskar at the helm back again,
- 37:41interim appointment. And this time I would be saying
- 37:44thank you to Ollie at the end of the season.
- 37:48And I'd be moving, as I said on the last part, no contract,
- 37:52contract off the table Rio. And I'd be going for for Eddie
- 37:55Howe and and tapping him up behind the scenes as best as I
- 37:59could so that he's ready for the summer.
- 38:02And just to clarify, Ron, who, who's, who's got the number one
- 38:04spot there out of? Ollie.
- 38:06I'll be Ollie, I'll be Ollie. OK.
- 38:10Interesting. Yeah, Scott, I think I'm sure
- 38:13you've mentioned Ollie. Would you buy into that?
- 38:16Yeah, I've been back in a heartbeat.
- 38:18Put it on the table. Yeah, let him sign it.
- 38:20Let him write whatever numbers he wants to put on there.
- 38:22Give him what he's done now since he's come in and let him
- 38:24sign the contract is. That what you're saying?
- 38:29TNT lawsuit coming there'll. Be no, there'll be no contract
- 38:32that's got. It's a freelance contract round.
- 38:35It's a freelance contract. Oh, I love that.
- 38:39It'll be with a with a term date of the last game of the season.
- 38:43Thanks very much. Massive applause.
- 38:45Yeah, exactly. Ash, could you buy into?
- 38:48That yeah, I I could buy into it.
- 38:50I wouldn't do it, but I could buy into it.
- 38:53So what? What are you doing then?
- 38:54Are you still sticking? You said silver, right?
- 38:57I'm just going to get a manager in like a Premier League
- 39:00manager. I'll RIP him off from
- 39:02Bournemouth, Fulham, Newcastle. If I could just ask him now.
- 39:07Come to the biggest club you can do.
- 39:09For a per manager right now. Absolutely.
- 39:12There'll be a shit load of managers wanting to take that
- 39:15job because this is the thing like as it's touched upon it,
- 39:18right? There's a decent squad there to
- 39:22to do something, right? And we're not talking, you know,
- 39:25Champions League qualification by the league, but you can play
- 39:29entertaining football with this squad.
- 39:31Be competent, don't embarrass yourselves continuously and get
- 39:37through the season, whatever that looks like, 6th, 7th, maybe
- 39:408th, and then just refresh in the summer, right?
- 39:44Whether that's with more signings or you know, this is a
- 39:49funny thing, right Time on the training ground, like he's going
- 39:52to have umpteenth time. So like if you were to think
- 39:54about like Reuben, like this is actually a period which is going
- 39:58to suit him because we've only got like one game boys hi for
- 40:02the next like few weeks, it's long waits.
- 40:05It's like, you know 6-7 days we've got to wait for every
- 40:08game. So he's going to get his time on
- 40:10the training pitch, but. Yeah, you know.
- 40:13Doesn't, doesn't. Wasn't that as excused last?
- 40:15Time. No, no, this is my point, Scott,
- 40:17like I was saying when these boys were telling me he's going
- 40:20to get the time on the pitch, I was saying it doesn't matter.
- 40:22This is done, right? This was done for me.
- 40:25I was saying from like March onwards you could see it, right?
- 40:27Like nothing is new. I mean, you can talk about the
- 40:31stats like I'm if I hear the Arsenal game one more time, I
- 40:35think I might shoot myself in the head.
- 40:36Like it's like it's gone boys. That was like a month ago,
- 40:40right? It's done.
- 40:42The city analogy is interesting because City were good.
- 40:46There's no doubt about it. They were highly motivated
- 40:49because it was the Manchester Derby.
- 40:51I think there was the element of the Ricky Hatton side of it.
- 40:55Like, you know, Phil Faden touched upon it.
- 40:58They were super motivated, but they were there to be gutter.
- 41:03So you know, Ron mentioned that with execution of like final
- 41:06passes, etcetera. And that's what I mean it's like
- 41:09it's a poorly coached team. But I do wonder about the
- 41:12confidence of this team as well. But I'm not going to give the
- 41:14players an out because that was the excuse for 10 Args.
- 41:18It was like 10 Args created a bad dressing room.
- 41:21Therefore, you know, any manager brought in would would make it
- 41:25better. That's clearly not the case
- 41:27because we got someone way more charismatic, way more better for
- 41:31the cameras and it is gone to utter shit.
- 41:34Like for anyone to think this is acceptable in any form, it's
- 41:38like wake up, wake up and smell what what is in front of you.
- 41:42Like to Scott's point, it's like you could wait, but what is the
- 41:47point? Like we know where this is going
- 41:50to go. And you know, the likes of Gary
- 41:52Neville, etcetera, like even their language right yesterday
- 41:56they know that this is done. It's a bit different to Ollie
- 42:00where they defended him to the hill before.
- 42:03Once it was confirmed, you know, they said well, he he should
- 42:08have gone. This is different.
- 42:09You can tell like I think Gary said yesterday, it's coming to
- 42:14October very soon, like 2 weeks away from October.
- 42:17You don't win many games. You are in deep trouble.
- 42:21He will never say like, you know, he's, he's gone, but we
- 42:26know where that this is going. Like, This is why Saturday is
- 42:28crucial, because it's our Old Trafford as well against Chelsea
- 42:32and. The thing is, and the excuses
- 42:34are gone because the excuses used to be the players, Yeah.
- 42:37And you can't you you can't blame them anymore because
- 42:40they're not down in tools. Apart from Grimsby.
- 42:43You could, you could argue, but the rest of the game just, yeah,
- 42:46I haven't seen the players like down in tools and not trying and
- 42:50stuff like that. Yeah, I would have.
- 42:51I agree with Keen on in terms of where it's a Derby.
- 42:56Yeah, yellow card. Like you said, smashing somebody
- 42:58kind of thing. Yeah, kind of thing.
- 43:00And I agree with that. But it's it's almost like the
- 43:05players are trying to do their very best.
- 43:07But it's the coaching. It's a coaching is the tactics,
- 43:11the formations. That's that's what is failing
- 43:14then with this team. And I think you're right, it's a
- 43:16good team. He has got a good team, bunch of
- 43:18players. But I think any, any manager, I
- 43:21mean, literally you could bring any manager in the world right
- 43:24now and he will get better results, not top 4, not winning
- 43:29the title. They will get better results.
- 43:31And maybe that's what we need. Do we need that platform and
- 43:34that stepping stone? Because I don't think, I don't
- 43:36think in a million years we're going to go from this position
- 43:39to winning the title in the next two, 345 years.
- 43:42I think you have to build it, but build it with the right
- 43:46person. And, and, and to Ron's point is,
- 43:49I think Eddie, Eddie's the number one.
- 43:52I think that has to be, you know, the the go get, he ain't
- 43:55going to come, you know, now he's not going to come in
- 43:58January. But I think getting someone like
- 44:02Ollie or Kerrig or, you know, an ancient United player to come in
- 44:05and just basically say, yeah, I was fun again, why Ollie did,
- 44:10you know, brilliant times. And the only thing, and this is
- 44:13what I mean, if we had the ownership now, you know, now
- 44:17with Ollie, you'd probably still be a manager because he's got
- 44:21because they didn't, he didn't have the backing in the end.
- 44:24It was player power that took over where player power is not
- 44:28there at the moment because the board backing Ameren.
- 44:31So when they say they're going to lose change room and all that
- 44:34kind of stuff, I don't think the change room is lost and it won't
- 44:37be lost because the change room is probably looking at it and
- 44:40kind of going well, the owners are still back in this manager.
- 44:44And at the moment it's either I play or they're going to get rid
- 44:47of me as a part of a bomb squad. So I don't think that's what I
- 44:51mean. I think I think the excuses are
- 44:53gone. You can't you can't blame the
- 44:55players. And this is where, you know, I
- 44:57look at it and kind of go, the only one person to blame is is
- 44:59the manager on this. And there's no Europe right he's
- 45:02got, he's always wanted this one week where I can train the
- 45:05players. He's got that now.
- 45:07There is no excuses. I look at it and think, you name
- 45:11one other club, big club, you know, we want to be competing
- 45:15against Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, you know, even in
- 45:18our league, the Liverpool's, the cities, the Arsenals, you, you
- 45:21name me one club in world football that would behave in
- 45:24this way as we're behaving at the moment.
- 45:26They would get rid of their manager in a heartbeat.
- 45:28Yet we are allowing this to play on week in, week out.
- 45:33An absolute mockery. We're a laughing stock in the
- 45:35world of football today. As you never confirmed on
- 45:38whether you would back the Ollie and Carrick interim gig, well.
- 45:43How am I supposed to reject that?
- 45:44I mean, come on, you, how I. Love the man you sold Ruben out
- 45:48now. Yeah, You know what's weird is I
- 45:51was more convinced that Ollie wasn't going to work at the end
- 45:57than I am now about Ruben. So that's a weird thing.
- 46:02I was convinced once we signed Ronaldo and I saw the first few
- 46:05games. This is done.
- 46:06He has no hope. This team is going to
- 46:08capitulate. I remember telling this to you,
- 46:10right? This is we're done.
- 46:12This is a House of Cards. It's going to collapse.
- 46:15I still, I don't think Reuben will succeed.
- 46:19I still see enough, like I said, that that the whole European
- 46:22thing doesn't kick in until now. The time and the training
- 46:25ground, right? Everyone's had the same
- 46:27fixtures. It kicks in now, it kicks in as
- 46:30we go on. And that's why I would
- 46:33technically still give him the next till the next international
- 46:37break for sure for the next four games.
- 46:40I wouldn't. I wouldn't.
- 46:40Yeah, I'd love Ollie and Carrick back, but I would still stick
- 46:44with him for now. I I don't think it's
- 46:46irretrievable. I don't think it's a formation
- 46:48issue as well. All the goals conceded, yes,
- 46:50they're nothing to do with 343. They were personnel problems,
- 46:53really. No, that's that's absolutely
- 46:55non. I think that's the second goal.
- 46:57You could see it with the lit and sure, you know, yeah.
- 46:59But if you had the back 4 conceding even more, even more
- 47:02space, right? Not true because the midfield
- 47:05that it would be plugged more like.
- 47:07No, that's you. Need to re look at the goal.
- 47:08The thing I have an issue with is that we played 433 under 10.
- 47:11Argh. And we're more open than we are
- 47:13now in terms of shots conceded we.
- 47:15Don't need to talk about Tanag, he's gone.
- 47:16Like if we're talking about this idea, talk about competent
- 47:19manager. It's this idea about a manager.
- 47:22There's a magical system out there that you bring.
- 47:24It's not a magical system. It's called numbers, right?
- 47:27Like I've told you many, you can see, you can see you, you.
- 47:31We had the numerical advantage in the box.
- 47:35No, we had the numerical advantage in the box in the
- 47:37first goal. It had nothing to do with three
- 47:394/3. It had to do with the fact that
- 47:41Foden gets rubbish. Because Doku gets into the into
- 47:44the midfield pocket where if there was free in the middle
- 47:48that space would have would have someone there.
- 47:51No, because that was they're stretched ugate, but you're not
- 47:55watching these games like they're strictly the team in
- 47:57field gate makes the wrong move, sure, then doesn't press on to
- 48:01docu. That's an, that's a, that's like
- 48:03a personnel thing, like they don't do their job properly.
- 48:05No, it's a combo. It it's, it's the formation, the
- 48:08system and the player decision making, right?
- 48:11Player decision making is influenced by the system that
- 48:14you play. None of them are comfortable.
- 48:16Like you've heard what Paji said.
- 48:19There are other rumours. Bruno always mentioned it in an
- 48:22interview. This is a problem, right?
- 48:24Like it's, it's, it's right in your face.
- 48:27What people even even? If even even if it's a problem
- 48:30in the players head. Yeah, but 1%, yeah.
- 48:32Yeah, even even if the problem is actually in their head, it's
- 48:35still a problem, right? Yeah.
- 48:36You know whether so. You know, I agree with that that
- 48:40that that there is that 1% could be there, but still needs to be
- 48:44coached. But, and I agree, I don't think
- 48:47it will succeed and if the dressing room's gone, he should
- 48:50go tomorrow. However, I would still if it
- 48:53hasn't gone, I'd give him these four games just to see.
- 48:56Are you asking me will I take? Of course I'd take Ollie back
- 48:59because it'd be great to see her back at the club.
- 49:02Marino's available as well. Scott would probably vote for
- 49:05him over Ollie, surely. Scott.
- 49:08No, no, I'll take Ollie. Just astounded.
- 49:11So this is just this is one of the great days of my life.
- 49:15But we're we're we're all discussing united and we're all
- 49:21we're bringing Ollie back. I mean what would?
- 49:24You do if. Christmas comes out if you
- 49:25Steve, if if. Steve, you're going tomorrow.
- 49:29Are you bringing him? Are.
- 49:30You bringing me Ollie? I'll tell.
- 49:31Let me just quickly, let's put it in.
- 49:33Steve, let's bring the whole gang back, let's get McKenna in
- 49:36as well. Come on, come on lads, we want.
- 49:41So you're interested to actually hear from you.
- 49:42What if Ruben goes, what are, what are you?
- 49:45What are you doing? Who are you bringing in?
- 49:46So the reason I've been keeping quiet and not not declaring it
- 49:50and I didn't vote in the poll is that guys, it's all nonsense.
- 49:56It doesn't matter who we're bringing in, this is doomed.
- 50:01We are never making it back, even into the top 4 under NES.
- 50:06I'm telling you now, best case scenario, we're getting back
- 50:08into the Europa League. So I'm, I'm done with them.
- 50:12I, I hate them. I really, really hate them.
- 50:14And it goes back to what you were saying, Ron, about Gary
- 50:18Neville, right? We as football fans, we want to
- 50:22enjoy the games. We want to celebrate goals.
- 50:24We want to have that passion, right?
- 50:26And NES have sucked out my joy and love.
- 50:30Obviously I still want us to win.
- 50:31You know, I'm there with Scott wanting the team to win.
- 50:34You can never take that out of me.
- 50:35But they've they've kind of sucked the soul out of the club
- 50:38for me. So I don't really care about the
- 50:41manager, I'll be honest. So, you know, that's why I'm
- 50:45sticking with Reuben. Yeah, question for you.
- 50:47There was a a part of me, honestly speaking, and this is I
- 50:53don't know, I can't believe I'm admitting this is a part of me
- 50:55that was actually, I don't want to say happy, but not unhappy
- 51:00that we were losing games under the glazes under 10 hug because
- 51:04I felt it was going to push the ownership thing.
- 51:07Is there any part of you that's kind of like, oh, you know what,
- 51:09good on stick it to Ineos. When we lose, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 51:12I know 100%, but that's exactly it.
- 51:14So I'm like, obviously I want us to win.
- 51:17That's a default position. But the worse this gets, the
- 51:20more likely. I'm not saying I said this to
- 51:23you, Scott didn't know yesterday.
- 51:24I'm not saying it's going to be a very high chance of getting
- 51:27the Glazers in any OS out. But if if this continues, you
- 51:30know, if we don't get if we get into a position where Europe is
- 51:33looking unlikely next season, that affects the finances.
- 51:37I think they've banked on the fact of at least getting into
- 51:39the Europa League next season in terms of the cost in the
- 51:42budgeting, right. So you get to a point in
- 51:44December where if it's if it's continues to look as it is on
- 51:47the pitch, that's where I think then the fan pressure is
- 51:50important because I'm not saying the fan pressure can force the
- 51:53owners out. We know that can't happen.
- 51:55But it might move the needle from 10% to 30%.
- 51:59You know that that's kind of my take on it.
- 52:00Like I'm I, I think you'll. Spend a long game, then you'll
- 52:04have you're having to ride this out and basically.
- 52:06You're Ruben in to get the in yourself.
- 52:08Yeah, that's, that's basically that was a long term project
- 52:11like you know, I, I agree with you guys like we could get.
- 52:14Management. It's a Qatari stooge.
- 52:17Is he playing? He's shake.
- 52:19Just Sims double agent. He's an AI character.
- 52:26We've known it. We know that's what it is.
- 52:29Ruben Amarin was actually kidnapped.
- 52:32The real Ruben Amarin summer in Qatar and it's fake.
- 52:36The fake 1. So he's not even.
- 52:38Portuguese is Qatari. Yeah.
- 52:42And you know what? They'll put the thing on right
- 52:45and he'll actually be Shake Jassim.
- 52:48Shake Jassim's actually the manager of the club the whole
- 52:51time, lowering the. Valuation.
- 52:55Reuben Zamo Reuben Zamo. You won't get that on.
- 52:57Any other podcast by the way? Starting some rumours, but yeah,
- 53:02no, that, that's, that is genuinely my, my take.
- 53:04And it's sad and like, I don't really want to admit it openly,
- 53:07but you know, even even when the cameras panned to gym yesterday,
- 53:11I was like, yeah, fuck you, fuck you.
- 53:13You deserve this. Like the way you treated us as
- 53:16fans, the way you treated some of the staff.
- 53:19He deserves it. The way the arrogance, you know,
- 53:21like, yeah, I, I when, when I saw his face, I was like, yeah,
- 53:25you deserve this. That that's that's how I feel.
- 53:28I thought to you, Steve. Sounds like I'm keeping.
- 53:30These guys, by the way, the way, the way Jim came and he said
- 53:36that I'd love it if I'd love it. I'd love it if we get relegated.
- 53:42I'd love it. Good.
- 53:44To you, Steve denied. It's that these guys don't sell,
- 53:48that they've got a past record that they don't sell.
- 53:51So I, you know, I, I admire what you say, but I don't think it's
- 53:55going to happen. I think they're here for the
- 53:57long run. I think they're here for the
- 53:58very long game, which is, you know, they want the next
- 54:04Champions League rights, they want the next TV rights, they
- 54:06want the next 200,000 stadium, they want the extra, you know, 2
- 54:11to 4, but. Scott, you, you want you want
- 54:13Sidney Sweeney. Yeah, I do.
- 54:16Exactly, but you soon run out of cash in the bank.
- 54:20He's playing the long game as well.
- 54:21What are you doing, Scott? Scott, when there is no cash in
- 54:24the bank next June because we didn't get into Europe, what are
- 54:28you doing then? I don't give a shit if you want
- 54:30a new $2 billion stadium or $2 billion stadium.
- 54:34This is the money. Yeah, but this is the prop, This
- 54:37is it. They'll go and sell some Class B
- 54:39shares again. Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 54:41I think I think if we let. Them take a loan from the Indios
- 54:43group and put it in. Yeah, but only if we let them.
- 54:45Only if we let shitty thing. Only if we let them.
- 54:49We've got no say in it, Steve. We've got absolutely, we've got
- 54:52little say. We've got little say.
- 54:54But that's a defeatist mindset though, Scott.
- 54:55No, what, what, what, what, what change in history would happen
- 55:00with that, with that mindset, if you just accept, if you accept,
- 55:04if you accept, are these people more powerful?
- 55:07It's a, it's a, it's a defeatist mindset.
- 55:09Are you right? It's more likely.
- 55:12It's it's defeatist mindset in the fact that there's probably
- 55:14reality. So I'm a realist in the sense
- 55:17that this isn't going to go anywhere soon.
- 55:20Yeah, but here for the long run. And the last 20 years have
- 55:23proved that. Steve, it's a football club.
- 55:25People want to like win today, like like like sky get that
- 55:29everyone here wants to go once the glaze is in it and any us
- 55:33gone now, right? If we could do it today, we'd do
- 55:36it. But in the in the meantime,
- 55:38you've got nine months of the season.
- 55:40Ron mentioned it a few weeks ago.
- 55:42You're going to work just being beaten up by all your colleagues
- 55:46and like being destroyed in WhatsApp grades.
- 55:48We want to win fucking football matches, right?
- 55:51And we want to be entertained as well because, you know, pumping
- 55:55it to Harry Maguire every week is not fun, right?
- 55:58We want to watch some like decent football again.
- 56:01And like you can bring in any manager and there's half a
- 56:05chance that that will happen. Yeah, the big thing here is that
- 56:09if this continues for another, if this continues for another 5,
- 56:13you know, five months, 10 months, two years, three, you
- 56:16name it, you got to look at the market, right?
- 56:18Look at our competitors. They're all getting stronger.
- 56:21So, Steve, to your point, and I admire what you're saying here,
- 56:25but in reality, you know, three years, four years from now, if
- 56:28even if any of us do depart and if we carry on with this
- 56:31trajectory, I mean, who knows, we'll be in the championship.
- 56:33Yeah, you've got, you know, your rivals just going from strength
- 56:37to strength. How do you come back from that?
- 56:39For in the championship. For in the championship, the
- 56:41Glazers are gone. That's what Steve's point.
- 56:43So I mean, that's what I mean, not even that.
- 56:45I think if we miss look. How far behind you are, though?
- 56:47Look how far behind you are, Steve.
- 56:49'S point is, under the Glazers, we will never, ever, ever, ever
- 56:52win. So what's the point, right?
- 56:54You might as well go as dig deep and then at least you have a
- 56:57chance of coming back. At least there's some hope.
- 57:01I'm not saying it's guaranteed, I'm just saying it's more.
- 57:03Like there's a hope there, there's.
- 57:05A That's such a long game that you're looking at, you know,
- 57:08decades beyond decades. It's.
- 57:10Been it's been 20 years already. But I think the only thing you
- 57:13can do as fans is not turn up to games.
- 57:16Like if there's like 10,000 people at Old Trafford, that's
- 57:20that's the only statement you can do.
- 57:22Because like, you know, you, you were one for criticising the
- 57:25fans, you know, a while back about this.
- 57:27But we're still the only fan group that have ever cancelled a
- 57:30Premier League game ever, like ever.
- 57:33So we, the fans tried to do their part.
- 57:36And look, they bottled it massively with the protest
- 57:39against Arsenal, right? Because a couple transfer deals
- 57:42got done in 1958, you know, bottled it.
- 57:45But that's the only thing we can do.
- 57:47We not, not turn up to games. I I don't see anything else that
- 57:51we can do and like, not buy merchandise.
- 57:52What else? What else do you want the fans
- 57:54to do? Yeah, but look at any us, right?
- 57:57They've they've revealed these big plans for a new stadium.
- 57:59They've just announced that they're not.
- 58:01Invested in the funding mate. Look, the government is.
- 58:03That's what I'm saying. Like there's no funding.
- 58:06They're not invested in the UK as, as a company in ES.
- 58:09So how can, how can they sit there and expect government
- 58:12funding to fund Old Trafford? You know, that's, this is what I
- 58:15mean, It's all these plans. But I I think the fan base is
- 58:19split on the new stadium anyway, right?
- 58:21Like, let's be honest, especially at the moment, we
- 58:25don't want a penny going into the stadium because we want our
- 58:28football team to play well. Like you got to get things
- 58:31right. Like, you know, I'm sure as is
- 58:33going to counter this, but like, because you can get like a new
- 58:37mortgage, but like, can you really afford to spend money on
- 58:40a new stadium with the, with the state of the team, like whether
- 58:43it's the manager, the infrastructure, all this stuff,
- 58:47right, like the facilities, like there's, there's so much that's
- 58:50got to be done before even focusing.
- 58:52The The thing is they've not, they've not tapped us out and
- 58:55that's, and we're such a big asset to them that they've not
- 58:59tapped out yet. And that and that's the issue.
- 59:03You haven't got banks coming to us and saying you need to repay
- 59:06like the Liverpool scenario. They didn't that we don't have
- 59:09that situation. The banks love it.
- 59:12I said this in the chat a few weeks back.
- 59:15Any bank in the world will come crawling and begging the Glazers
- 59:19to say remortgage with with us. But Scott, they'll.
- 59:22Take they'll take all the interest in the world. 2022,
- 59:25November. The Glazers were backed into a
- 59:27corner. Less than three years ago,
- 59:29they'd run out of money. They've done this strategic
- 59:32investment. They only had two viable options
- 59:34that came forward. One of them was in the US and
- 59:37one of them that was Shake Jaseem.
- 59:39Whether it's real or not. Because private equity was
- 59:41available. Yeah, Elliot, that's what I'm
- 59:43saying. So like, you know, they, they
- 59:44only had limited options then so they could.
- 59:46Figure out more loans. Yeah, of course they could have.
- 59:49But yeah, there's always a way out.
- 59:50But importantly, importantly, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, if you go
- 59:54back to his Overlap interview in March, was it around the Arsenal
- 59:58game? He was already not liking the
- 1:00:01stick at that point and he basically said I won't put up
- 1:00:06with this stick for much longer. The stick is only going to get
- 1:00:10worse over the next few months. So that's the other important
- 1:00:12thing. Why is he going to want, you
- 1:00:14know, he's already put in, what is it, 300 million US and why is
- 1:00:17he going to want to put in more cash when all he's getting is
- 1:00:19stick? His asset is reducing in value.
- 1:00:23It doesn't make any financial sense.
- 1:00:25But the counter to that is that if this continues and you know,
- 1:00:28we end up let's not, I wouldn't say we're going to get
- 1:00:30relegated, but you know, we're flirting relegation where we
- 1:00:33were as sort of an asset to buy two years ago, a year ago.
- 1:00:38Is it the same, you know, compared to the likes of
- 1:00:40Tottenham that are out there potentially or who knows?
- 1:00:43You know, if if Arsenal or Liverpool, you know, they come
- 1:00:45up to be to be sold in the future.
- 1:00:47These clubs are a lot more attractive than than we are
- 1:00:50because we're we're spending years and years just in the doom
- 1:00:53and gloom. But Ron, that's a good point,
- 1:00:54right? So the rumours are that
- 1:00:56Tottenham have been valued at around 4/4 and 1/2 billion
- 1:00:59right? With those rumours that
- 1:01:01circulated round, Even now, as shit as we are with no Europe,
- 1:01:06Scotland still agree with this. We're going to be worth more
- 1:01:10than Spurs. Fact.
- 1:01:11It's the name, isn't it? The name is there, the brand is
- 1:01:14there. But I take your point, Ron,
- 1:01:15like, you know, you, especially if you start, you know, if you
- 1:01:17spend two or three years out of Europe, you you do start to
- 1:01:20become, Oh, are we a mid table team as a club?
- 1:01:23But the the other interest, I don't know where I saw this, but
- 1:01:27I actually read that Sheikh Jassim and this might just be
- 1:01:30posturing. He's not as interested as he was
- 1:01:32a few years ago. One is because they won the
- 1:01:35Champions League with PSG, so they kind of got the glory
- 1:01:38through there. And secondly, apparently their
- 1:01:40Katara planning a bid for the Olympics in the 20 thirties, I
- 1:01:44believe. So they're shifting focus
- 1:01:46towards that. So, yeah, I take that point that
- 1:01:48is there a buyer out that I just do think?
- 1:01:50Saudi is your best part, my friend.
- 1:01:52Saudi is your best part. Possibly.
- 1:01:54I just think there will be a buyer out there.
- 1:01:56It's still Manchester United and yeah, you know, there's got to
- 1:02:00be more people willing to buy. Fair enough.
- 1:02:03If you're, if you're running for the long run and you're willing,
- 1:02:05you know, for this to continue for five years, seven years.
- 1:02:08I just think the likes of Scott Ash and me, I think our, our
- 1:02:12heart rate has had it. I don't think we can take any
- 1:02:14more of this. Fair play.
- 1:02:16No, I get it. I get it.
- 1:02:17And there's no perfect answer. I think you know as a fan base
- 1:02:21the solution is not clear, right?
- 1:02:23It's it's tricky. It's not even heart rate.
- 1:02:26It's, it's, it's the size of this club like, like Liverpool
- 1:02:32have never been this bad ever. So even in the 30 years when
- 1:02:37they weren't winning it, they've never finished this low in the,
- 1:02:40in the league. They've never been this poor.
- 1:02:42Like it is embarrassing the amount of times like we lose at
- 1:02:46Old Trafford, like basically the only teams, especially under
- 1:02:49Ruben that we can be is, is promoted teams, every other team
- 1:02:53give, gives us a game. So even when people bring up
- 1:02:57like the next 5 fixtures, it doesn't matter because the next
- 1:03:00fixture is the most important one because we are that bad.
- 1:03:03We are that bad. It doesn't matter to like that
- 1:03:06we're playing Sunderland in like 2 weeks time.
- 1:03:08It's all about Chelsea and not basically being embarrassed at
- 1:03:12Old Trafford. Yeah.
- 1:03:13So we can't get relegated, but let me ask you all a question.
- 1:03:16If Ruben is in charge all season, who's saying we're going
- 1:03:20to get relegated here? I.
- 1:03:22Think we don't think we get I. Don't think we get relegated.
- 1:03:24We'll finish 17th, but not we'll never get relegated, yeah.
- 1:03:29He would even I'm. Definitely Valmar want to get
- 1:03:32relegated. Twelve, 13th.
- 1:03:34And Steve made a point about, you know, even being out of
- 1:03:38Europe for next season. I, I don't think it does
- 1:03:40anything. It doesn't put any more pressure
- 1:03:42on part from the fact that they're going to be reducing
- 1:03:44funds. They'll probably end up firing
- 1:03:45more people. You, you just operate
- 1:03:48differently. You operate as a club that's no
- 1:03:51longer a European football club. That's the only way they they're
- 1:03:55going to handle it being out of Europe.
- 1:03:57They're still going to generate 550 million plus or whatever
- 1:04:01each year. It's just the extra 200 million
- 1:04:04that they could get in the Champions Leagues.
- 1:04:07That's that's Steve's point and fair, fair play in that the
- 1:04:09valuation goes down, your revenue goes down, your
- 1:04:11valuation goes down, more buyers, the Glazer extreme
- 1:04:16valuation of whatever it is 67810.
- 1:04:19They might be like, you know what, this is silly.
- 1:04:23We're losing money here. We're haemorrhaging money.
- 1:04:24I keep saying this is that people go, oh, it's, you know,
- 1:04:27United to cash cow. It was 10 years ago for them.
- 1:04:30They don't make any dividends anymore because there aren't any
- 1:04:32dividends to get paid. They are haemorrhaging money
- 1:04:35because at the end of the day they could literally put that
- 1:04:38money in a bank account or by, you know, risk free and and 5%
- 1:04:42they could go and invest in some US tech stocks and earn a lot.
- 1:04:45And I do think Jim is actually in it for the glory.
- 1:04:47Jim's in it for the glory because he makes money from
- 1:04:50chemicals, right? So for him, he can lose that
- 1:04:53money because for him, his chemicals businesses, he he
- 1:04:56threw 200 million at Ben Ainsley in a boat.
- 1:04:58I mean, who cares about but when?
- 1:05:00He realises when he realises he's not going to get the glory
- 1:05:03and he's going to have to put in more money.
- 1:05:05So Jim seen it with Jimmy'z game in my opinion is he wants the
- 1:05:09full buyout. He wants to take over for fully
- 1:05:13and the host do the stadium thing and he wants it to be like
- 1:05:17his legacy. That's what he's all about.
- 1:05:20And he wants to leave a legacy and he's thinking 10 years.
- 1:05:24So for him he he also will be like, I want the glazes out as
- 1:05:28well. He wants the glazes out as much
- 1:05:30as you do, Steve. Yeah, but I think in reality you
- 1:05:33want him. Out.
- 1:05:33He needs to change the manager first.
- 1:05:35No, no, I think, I think the deal, I think they've done this
- 1:05:38minority deal to almost see how it goes for a few years.
- 1:05:41And yes, ideal scenario, you know, things are going well for
- 1:05:44Ineos and I did. I do think he thought that was
- 1:05:47an option. But the second option is he
- 1:05:49cashes out as well and the Glazers and the Glazers leave,
- 1:05:52they cash out together. Guys, I wouldn't be surprised if
- 1:05:54the Glazers are ready to kick Ineos out like because they have
- 1:05:58fucked things up so much and I'm the first one Steve to admit
- 1:06:02like Ineos have got this massively wrong right?
- 1:06:05As in like me backing them got it massively wrong.
- 1:06:08But I would not be surprised if the Glazers are planning to get
- 1:06:12rid of them. Yeah, it's got to be unrest
- 1:06:15behind the scenes, right? It has.
- 1:06:17To be because they've made they've made the asset way
- 1:06:19worse. Like sporting side, we are
- 1:06:22absolutely atrocious, right. Eighth was bad.
- 1:06:25I mean last season was bad and like the trajectory this season
- 1:06:29doesn't look good. But then yeah, if that.
- 1:06:31Happens. If that happens, Ash, then
- 1:06:33Steve's point around a sale and actually going down the route of
- 1:06:37a Qatari or somebody from Saudi Arabia could happen because tell
- 1:06:41you what, Glazers are more most likely to sell than in yours.
- 1:06:44Saudi is what the Glazers are aiming for.
- 1:06:47The Glazers have got good history with Saudi.
- 1:06:51You know, they've done like plenty of deals in the past.
- 1:06:54I think they're also linked with like franchise cricket as well.
- 1:06:57Saudi is the place like, that's where all the money is.
- 1:07:00Like they've bought golf that they've practically bought
- 1:07:02tennis. They are going to, well, they
- 1:07:04got boxing. If they really want to showcase,
- 1:07:08you know, the Saudi World Cup, buy Man United, fuck Newcastle,
- 1:07:12sell them and they're going to make money on Newcastle and.
- 1:07:15Get Eddie Howe as well. Get Eddie Howe and that's the
- 1:07:19dream ticket, right? Like, you know, Saudi, Saudi
- 1:07:21have Man United, they have the fan base.
- 1:07:24Everyone's going to come to that World Cup.
- 1:07:26Doesn't matter about your religion or your cultural
- 1:07:28beliefs. And we'll get back on top.
- 1:07:31That is is forget Qatar. Qatar never had the money.
- 1:07:35As much as you want to argue about it, Qatar never had the
- 1:07:37money because they couldn't even play it as.
- 1:07:39A point we'll get the we'll get the real ribbon come through as
- 1:07:41well. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 1:07:44So yeah, I mean, I think each game is gonna, you know.
- 1:07:49It's definitely 1000 cuts. We're looking forward to
- 1:07:52Garnacha coming back to Old Trafford.
- 1:07:54That's going to be fun, isn't it?
- 1:07:56Did you see how he celebrated his his dodgy assist as well?
- 1:08:00Like like he weave past like 5 players to like put it on Kai
- 1:08:05Sode's foot. Yeah, I'm glad.
- 1:08:06I'm glad they didn't win it, at least so.
- 1:08:08I'm looking forward to the meltdown as well, when we win
- 1:08:11and everyone's going to be. It's going to be, it's going to
- 1:08:14be a melt meltdown either way, right, Whether it's a win or a
- 1:08:17defeat. But I mean, I tell you what, if
- 1:08:19we lose that game, you could see the Indios making a decision
- 1:08:22right Monday morning. I don't think so.
- 1:08:25I think indios are just going to carry on till.
- 1:08:28Till no. I think if we lost say 22 nil or
- 1:08:32three nil, Jim, Jim will make the call.
- 1:08:34He will make the call. No, I think, I think that I
- 1:08:36always look for the international breaks.
- 1:08:38Yeah, it was international. Break next International Break
- 1:08:40is the one. That's why I said these four
- 1:08:42games. This to me.
- 1:08:43Look at these four games. Do you reckon though?
- 1:08:45But isn't that too late? Because of you want to give
- 1:08:47yourself a chance to actually get back into Europe, right?
- 1:08:50So if you wait another four games and you don't get good
- 1:08:53results, you're you're costing yourself possibly.
- 1:08:56I almost think the Sunderland game is bigger.
- 1:08:58You lose that, he's fucked. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:00Sunderland. Like, you know, do you think
- 1:09:04that, you know, you parachute in Ollie and Carrick and suddenly
- 1:09:07we'd suddenly, you know, turn it around probably, you know, not
- 1:09:10right. So you give them the four games.
- 1:09:12Whoever's going to come in needs a bit of time to settle in, ETC.
- 1:09:17So yeah, the next. Formally, we're talking about
- 1:09:19the Sunderland game here. Well, that's what I mean,
- 1:09:22doesn't it? You're.
- 1:09:22Not talking to Sunderland and we're counting on the Sunderland
- 1:09:25game. I mean, if I said that's.
- 1:09:26Not counting on it, it's it's if you lose that game, right, you
- 1:09:30have to, you expect to win this. Game that's even as part of the
- 1:09:33conversation should tell you everything about.
- 1:09:37No, but that's the part where the you know, you know, the the
- 1:09:40back breaks. No, I hate, I hate.
- 1:09:43That's the last game right before the.
- 1:09:46Yeah, For me, what happened against Burnley, it doesn't
- 1:09:49matter. Like it's great on the day
- 1:09:50because we won a game, but it doesn't change like what I'm
- 1:09:54thinking. And Ash.
- 1:09:57Ash, you know Jim's character pretty well like you followed
- 1:10:00the any off story right in sports over the last few years.
- 1:10:03Can you let's just say we lost two nil to Chelsea.
- 1:10:05Could you not see him make a decision next week?
- 1:10:08No, because he's too stubborn. Really.
- 1:10:12Yeah, but it doesn't have high standards then like you know, if
- 1:10:15this I think, I think someone made the point if this was one
- 1:10:17of Ineos's subsidiary companies, would he accept?
- 1:10:20This but this is this is the point.
- 1:10:21It's not right. And I always have this argument
- 1:10:24with Azar about the office, right?
- 1:10:26It's not that's the difference, right.
- 1:10:28So if if Ruben was working at Ineos group like the chemical
- 1:10:33side, he would have already gone.
- 1:10:36But because this is sport and like, you know, there is that
- 1:10:39element of patience at any us and also this is their first
- 1:10:42guy, right? Like they will tell you like
- 1:10:45what they did to scout and get Reuben, right?
- 1:10:48And now Omar Barada is like trying to push away the fact
- 1:10:51that it wasn't his decision. It was made by analysts as well.
- 1:10:55Absolute bollocks as as you at the testing so I don't think he
- 1:10:59would. They've been quite ruthless.
- 1:11:00Ruthless for sure. In Nice they were very ruthless
- 1:11:04with Dan Ashworth. Yeah, because they disagree.
- 1:11:09That's because Dan Ashworth disagreed with the philosophy of
- 1:11:12what any us were looking to do like.
- 1:11:14You know, yeah, but Steve called my.
- 1:11:16Manager list, The boring list. That's what Dan had as well.
- 1:11:19I think the issue is they are like bit like me.
- 1:11:23They they see last season as a write off that Ruben was, you
- 1:11:28know, like trying to clean up a mess and they're looking at a
- 1:11:31fresh start. It's too early in this tenor.
- 1:11:34There's there's there's the new training ground.
- 1:11:37There's the whole thing of time on the training ground.
- 1:11:39Lack of European football hasn't kicked in yet.
- 1:11:42The new signings getting to know each other.
- 1:11:44I think they feel it's too early.
- 1:11:46That and this is my point. I think it's more they don't
- 1:11:49want to make another mistake. They don't want to be seen.
- 1:11:52And then the other point is. Ashworth 10 hog.
- 1:11:55And who do you bring in? Jim Ratcliffe is not bringing
- 1:11:58only goodness. Old Sharon Michael Cowan.
- 1:12:00Let's be. What mess is what?
- 1:12:02The thing is, what mess is he yet to sort out though?
- 1:12:05What is this mess? This is the issue is that
- 1:12:07there's a lot of people who think time under 10 hog was good
- 1:12:10and I'm I'm not one of those people.
- 1:12:12So for me it was in that shit show and a lot of the squads
- 1:12:16that that was there that he's this whole revamp needed to
- 1:12:19happen. And I'm happy that there was
- 1:12:22this revamp. The people who think that things
- 1:12:24are good under 10 hog 433 was great and you know, then you
- 1:12:28wouldn't think there was a problem.
- 1:12:30So that's. I still don't understand what
- 1:12:33this mess is though. What mess is he actually fixed?
- 1:12:36Sancho wasn't even, you know, wasn't the signing.
- 1:12:39Well, it hasn't played for the last two plus years, but that's
- 1:12:43not a problem. He's fixed the club fixed that.
- 1:12:46No, it's in it. He created the Rashford.
- 1:12:49Problem. No, he's.
- 1:12:50Created the Sancho problem. He's created a menu problem.
- 1:12:54So what? What problem does he?
- 1:12:56This is this is this is the question right?
- 1:12:58And this is the disagreement. I would say I genuinely believe,
- 1:13:02and this is maybe me to being delusional, if the next manager
- 1:13:06comes in we'll pick up a better situation than the situation.
- 1:13:09You said that after Ollie, and that was just simply not true.
- 1:13:15OK, you can say that's not true this time as well to say I'm
- 1:13:18wrong now, but I think the next manager who comes in picks up a
- 1:13:21better situation than the one Reuben picked up that actually I
- 1:13:25look at the squad now and go, I quite like some of these players
- 1:13:29and it just, and that's what I mean, can you give him a bit of
- 1:13:31time to work this out? Even if he gets fired, I think
- 1:13:34the next guy comes in and he's like, OK, Reuben's done the
- 1:13:37clear out of this. He's done a bit of cultural
- 1:13:39training, the new training grounds in place and and we go
- 1:13:42with with I like Embermo. I think Cesco looked decent.
- 1:13:46I think Cunha is a really good player.
- 1:13:49So I kind of like look at that and go, this isn't actually that
- 1:13:53bad anymore. What players ask the question
- 1:13:57again, What? What problems has he fixed,
- 1:13:59Marcus? Rashford, Anthony.
- 1:14:01Jayden Sancho. No.
- 1:14:03All the players that have left. Sancho.
- 1:14:07Done this anyway. The club, that's the club.
- 1:14:09The club would have done what has he.
- 1:14:10Done. Whether he did it or not, the
- 1:14:12situation now is better, right? Whether it was in New York,
- 1:14:15whether it was Jason Wilson, whether it was Omar Brada,
- 1:14:18whether it was Jim Ratcliffe, whether it was Reuben Amrim, the
- 1:14:21situation now is better than it was 12 months ago.
- 1:14:25That's what I'm saying. The hierarchy at the club you're
- 1:14:28saying is better than it was 12 months.
- 1:14:30Ago the is stronger. No, it isn't because 10 Hogs
- 1:14:35signed five players in the summer.
- 1:14:36Those five players are still here.
- 1:14:37They're Ineos players though, right They?
- 1:14:39Look good. So they're any of those players.
- 1:14:41Then they signed them. Yeah, so like what I'm saying,
- 1:14:44is it Jim Ratcliffe's looking at this and going right?
- 1:14:46The situation's better. Let give now, give Ruben the
- 1:14:50chance now to kind of work with the squad.
- 1:14:54So any of signed five players under 10, Hog 10.
- 1:14:57Hog had 810 games and got fired. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:02And and done better than Reuben. I don't.
- 1:15:05Yeah, exactly. That's what I mean.
- 1:15:06That's a disagreement. I don't think 10 Hog was doing
- 1:15:08well because I'm I'm a guy who watches football matches and
- 1:15:11goes, that was shit. I don't care that we squeeze the
- 1:15:13result out. How?
- 1:15:14Can you say this is better? This is worse.
- 1:15:16No. Look at our legs.
- 1:15:17That's what I mean. For me, it's exactly the same
- 1:15:19process. It's exactly the same.
- 1:15:23This is this is no, this is this point for me.
- 1:15:25It's exactly the same shit as it was before.
- 1:15:28The difference is worse because the players are even more
- 1:15:31confused because 10 hog what? He.
- 1:15:32I don't think they are. I don't.
- 1:15:34Think they he was too attacking? No, I think they were even more
- 1:15:38because they will. They have no clue and he was
- 1:15:41only three. No, they want to.
- 1:15:43This is the clue. The wingers are playing as wing
- 1:15:46backs. The centre backs don't know who
- 1:15:48to pick. Up because they don't actually
- 1:15:50not. Sorry, this is where you're
- 1:15:51completely wrong. You're you're totally wrong as
- 1:15:54well. Because her in the league
- 1:15:56position, that's the price. The worst start in 34 years.
- 1:16:00Football action Wake up. Being enough you.
- 1:16:02Don't watch enough football? You don't watch any.
- 1:16:05Football. You don't watch football.
- 1:16:07You, I told you a few weeks ago about the central midfield.
- 1:16:10You were telling me, oh, don't worry about it.
- 1:16:13Like it's fine. Like I will score more goals,
- 1:16:15but we're getting destroyed in midfield.
- 1:16:17And every week and you don't know, we can't watch it.
- 1:16:20I can't see 10/10/10 hard second season, 10 hog second season we
- 1:16:25were an. Obviously we were atrocious.
- 1:16:27Everyone knows that we were, it was, we were utterly atrocious,
- 1:16:31worse than it is in these first four games and.
- 1:16:33We were utterly atrocious and it's worse than we were utterly
- 1:16:36atrocious, worse than now. It doesn't matter where.
- 1:16:40It does, because that's the question.
- 1:16:42It's 14th. You're the one who backed Reuben
- 1:16:45in the summer. You're the one who backed him in
- 1:16:47March. So keep on with him and like,
- 1:16:50enjoy your football. Enjoy the football.
- 1:16:53I can't wait. I'm looking forward.
- 1:16:55Exactly. Enjoy it, Chelsea's enjoy it and
- 1:16:58I look forward to you saying that he deserved to be fired.
- 1:17:02Are you, are you looking forward to the Chelsea game away?
- 1:17:04It's really. Wonderful guy.
- 1:17:06I'm actually coming back. You know, we're going to, we're
- 1:17:10going to, I think Old Trafford will be on fire.
- 1:17:12We're going to have, we're going to have the Reuben am ring song
- 1:17:15from the Stretford End. I'm going to have a nice 3-1.
- 1:17:18See. What a shame.
- 1:17:19I'll be there, finally, some of those chances are, you know
- 1:17:22those. We've had so many shots where
- 1:17:24it's just like one of them. Please go in there.
- 1:17:26We go XGS. Back there we go.
- 1:17:28Trust the process, because that's what Jesus Christ.
- 1:17:31Get the T. Shed.
- 1:17:33You know what's funny, I was listening to the Gary Neville
- 1:17:35podcast and I think the commentator asked him, oh, what
- 1:17:39does Reuben need to do? And Gary goes, oh, the games at
- 1:17:42the games at Old Trafford under the lights on Saturday.
- 1:17:45They need a fast start and they need a goal.
- 1:17:47And I'm like, oh, thanks, Gary. That's a that's a great
- 1:17:49suggestion. But to that point, is that what
- 1:17:52we need? Just like a little bit of luck
- 1:17:54and something to catch fire like you need to score?
- 1:17:57The first goal. This is it.
- 1:17:59Score the concede. We'll concede afterwards because
- 1:18:02that's what you you tell me. I don't watch football.
- 1:18:05You don't watch football clearly either, because even if we did
- 1:18:08score, we'll concede because we're just not that good.
- 1:18:12We're worse under 10 hog. But you're trying.
- 1:18:15You're creating this thing in your head like that.
- 1:18:17We're saying 10 Hog was like better.
- 1:18:19It's not that it was shit. It was, it was shit then, but
- 1:18:23it's shit now. I made one simple point and I
- 1:18:26said you guys would disagree. My simple point was I think the
- 1:18:29next guy when he takes over will take over a better situation
- 1:18:34than Reuben took over with 10 hug.
- 1:18:36And that's why I think Ineos will give him a little bit more
- 1:18:39time because they believe that he it was coming from Scott's
- 1:18:44thing of what has he cleaned up? I saw a massive, massive mess
- 1:18:48structurally in the team, in the coaching, in the morale of the
- 1:18:51squad. And that's my point as well of
- 1:18:54if he's lost the dressing room, he has to go immediately.
- 1:18:56The moment a manager's lost the dressing room.
- 1:18:58I'm 100 whenever that happens, if he hasn't, let's assume the
- 1:19:03players are still behind him, but I just haven't yet got that
- 1:19:06that that execution in those those little moments.
- 1:19:11They will they will give in the next three or few games because
- 1:19:14and I think whoever takes over after Ruben I genuine I think
- 1:19:18you even guys said it before actually, if you set up in a in
- 1:19:21this way and we'll actually start winning some games yeah,
- 1:19:25but it's. So that comes.
- 1:19:26In because you can't get your point, you can't get any work.
- 1:19:29Yeah. Yeah, that's about.
- 1:19:31This guy's gonna come in and just basically just start
- 1:19:33winning games because you can't get any work.
- 1:19:35Yes, at the moment he's also going for a better.
- 1:19:37Position. We're playing a system that
- 1:19:39works for these players. At the moment, these players are
- 1:19:41confused. They're playing a system that
- 1:19:43they just can't get their head around, like position.
- 1:19:46Hasn't. Fixed anything the the new
- 1:19:47management transition. You managed to open this squad
- 1:19:50up thinking, oh, thanks to Ruben I got, you know, Imbumu Kunya.
- 1:19:55That would have happened regardless of Reuben.
- 1:19:58That's the question. That is the interesting question
- 1:20:00that my assumption is, and this is the thing with hiring whoever
- 1:20:04you hire next is something to consider and why Ineos maybe do
- 1:20:08like Reuben versus Dan Ash with this.
- 1:20:09I think it's really important the manager works with the
- 1:20:12hierarchy in recruitment. That's fundamentally what wins
- 1:20:15you games. And I think they believe that he
- 1:20:18has a good eye for a player and has has, has improved the
- 1:20:21playing squad, has has assessed which people need to be removed
- 1:20:25and, and assessed which people should be signed.
- 1:20:28And therefore whoever's taking over takes over a much cleaner
- 1:20:31situation. I don't think he needs to.
- 1:20:33The next manager doesn't need to do much.
- 1:20:35Well, Reuben in my opinion had a huge mess to sort out that he's
- 1:20:39basically 2/3 of the way there. But I think that the next moves,
- 1:20:44the Casimiro out, McGuire is is being slowly gone and Bruno to
- 1:20:49the Saudi move and then next summer you go again, whoever
- 1:20:52that guy. That's natural though.
- 1:20:54Yeah, but that's natural. These are 32 plus.
- 1:20:56But my point is yeah, but my point is under 10 hard.
- 1:20:58It would have got even worse because he would have hired more
- 1:21:01people from the Dutch league. Shit players, Labour, Cooton did
- 1:21:04the right thing and got rid of him after three games.
- 1:21:07Right, the guy. Was hired, You hired.
- 1:21:10So don't forget, don't forget that.
- 1:21:13Why is the conversation about tennis?
- 1:21:15Why are we talking about 10 hog? We're talking.
- 1:21:16About where we are. It's narrative about 10 hogs.
- 1:21:19Nonsense. And hog let's.
- 1:21:21Don't worry about 10 hog, it's gone.
- 1:21:23That was 2-3 years ago we're talking about.
- 1:21:25Really. Why are we not?
- 1:21:26Why are we? Not why are we talking about 10
- 1:21:28haggis, Because why am I talking about 10 hog?
- 1:21:32I apologise. Why am I talking about 10 hog is
- 1:21:35because to assess the job that Reuben's done, I'm saying look
- 1:21:39at what he picked up and look at where we are now.
- 1:21:42And in my opinion that he has done some cleanup with it.
- 1:21:46Scott disagrees with and that's fine.
- 1:21:48And now it's 10:30. It's been it's been a pleasure
- 1:21:51guys. We've had a long discussion.
- 1:21:54Ron, you have a 7:00 AM tomorrow morning.
- 1:21:56We've all we'll all disagree on this and let's look forward to
- 1:21:58the Chelsea game. You guys aren't.
- 1:22:00I'm going to watch it because you know you're fed up with
- 1:22:02watching football. I'm going to sit back.
- 1:22:05I'm going to, I'm actually in Manchester, but I've got a
- 1:22:08wedding to go to and hopefully I can sneak out, catch the game
- 1:22:13and. And see the three goals that you
- 1:22:15promised us, you think we're going to score 3 on Saturday?
- 1:22:17So at some point, let's see if you get these chances.
- 1:22:19We'll go in. Yeah.
- 1:22:21So. Our own goals.
- 1:22:22Have you noticed, have you noticed Scott, Ash and Ron are
- 1:22:25wearing blue? So I think they're supporting
- 1:22:27Chelsea so that Reuben Reuben gets the boot next week.
- 1:22:30So maybe you're maybe you're in my camp, but.
- 1:22:34Yeah, I'm just we're representing the 1968.
- 1:22:37Yeah, I think, yeah, we'll wrap it there.
- 1:22:40I think there might be another emergency pod next week, but I
- 1:22:44actually I can see Ineos acting before the international break.
- 1:22:48Time will tell. Maybe we win on Saturday.
- 1:22:51That's how random this team are. So you'll have to tune in for
- 1:22:54the next episode. So thanks for tuning in to this
- 1:22:58one and we'll catch you on the next one.
