- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Bobani Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:11Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:16Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:18Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:21Speaker 1: a hater. It is that time of week that we
- 0:23Speaker 1: have a guest join us. And the first time that
- 0:25Speaker 1: we've had somebody go full asshole and put on sunglasses
- 0:29Speaker 1: for right as the show started, right before. He doesn't
- 0:32Speaker 1: have pink eye. You know what I'm saying? He doesn't
- 0:35Speaker 1: have a sty or anything like that. But Adam Lefkoe
- 0:38Speaker 1: just decided he wanted to be a little cooler than
- 0:40Speaker 1: the rest of us.
- 0:42Speaker 2: It's 99 degrees out there today, Bo.
- 0:44Speaker 1: It is 99 degrees out there. And I'll tell you.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I can't do it. I can't do it. I've always
- 0:48Speaker 2: wanted to be the guy that says I can't do it.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I'm going to tell people something Adam and I were
- 0:52Speaker 1: talking about coming in on this. Okay. So I'm having
- 0:55Speaker 1: a sofa delivery today. Um, the plan for me on
- 0:59Speaker 1: getting the sofa delivered was actually that yesterday I was
- 1:03Speaker 1: going to go pick. Okay. So the thing was I
- 1:05Speaker 1: bought the sofa on Saturday and they said on Sunday,
- 1:09Speaker 1: the moving company would call me and I'm like, cool.
- 1:11Speaker 1: That means that you'll deliver it. on Monday. But on Sunday,
- 1:14Speaker 1: the moving company did not deliver. I called the store
- 1:17Speaker 1: and they said, you'll hear from them on Tuesday. Or
- 1:20Speaker 1: at least I thought she said that I would hear
- 1:21Speaker 1: from them on Tuesday. I'm like, damn, if I ain't
- 1:23Speaker 1: even going to hear from them till Tuesday, ain't no
- 1:26Speaker 1: telling when they're actually going to bring the stuff. And
- 1:29Speaker 1: so I had to go to my, what do you
- 1:30Speaker 1: do when you don't live in New York situation? Like
- 1:33Speaker 1: who got the trucks? So I went on one of
- 1:35Speaker 1: the car rental apps to get a truck. And I
- 1:38Speaker 1: was like, yo, I'm not paying $ 200. And then it
- 1:40Speaker 1: dawned on me, There's a whole company called U-Haul that
- 1:45Speaker 1: exists for this very purpose. And U-Haul is one of
- 1:48Speaker 1: the rare things where the price everywhere else is the
- 1:51Speaker 1: same as the price in New York City. $ 19. 95 for
- 1:55Speaker 1: the day plus miles. I said, cool. I'm going to
- 1:57Speaker 1: get to U-Haul. I'm going to go down. They're going
- 1:59Speaker 1: to put the couch in the cargo van. They got
- 2:02Speaker 1: the nine-foot cargo van. They're going to put that in
- 2:05Speaker 1: the van. And then I'll drive back up here. And
- 2:07Speaker 1: then I'll have somebody meet me. We'll take it upstairs. Boom.
- 2:10Speaker 1: That's what's up. Man, I called to set that up.
- 2:13Speaker 1: And Buddy says, well, actually, we're already here on Monday.
- 2:17Speaker 1: He says, well, we're actually already. Oh, he called me.
- 2:19Speaker 1: That's right. He called me. And he's like, all right,
- 2:21Speaker 1: but we've already got the couch. And I'm like, man,
- 2:25Speaker 1: how do I get out of this? Because I'm going
- 2:26Speaker 1: to save like a couple hundred dollars by doing this myself.
- 2:29Speaker 1: And then I looked at the weather and it was
- 2:30Speaker 1: already 80 something degrees at nine o'clock in the morning.
- 2:34Speaker 1: I was like, nah, homie, you got it. No chance.
- 2:38Speaker 2: A few things here. Number one. I can't imagine you
- 2:43Speaker 2: doing well driving a U-Haul.
- 2:45Speaker 1: It's a cargo bay.
- 2:46Speaker 2: You like trying to like back into a spot with
- 2:50Speaker 2: a huge vehicle. I just don't trust it. I don't know.
- 2:53Speaker 2: You have no reason to feel this way. Having hung
- 2:57Speaker 2: out with you before, I just like, I know that I,
- 3:01Speaker 2: I think that you've outlived moving your own furniture. Oh, absolutely. Yes.
- 3:07Speaker 2: You are a, let me hire some European.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Men to move a sofa into my. Yes.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Like, dude, sweating and like trying to back around a corner.
- 3:18Speaker 1: But no, no, no. But this is the thing about
- 3:20Speaker 1: going through U-Haul that I hadn't thought about. For the low,
- 3:23Speaker 1: low price of $ 7, they give you the dolly.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Get out of here, bro. You're not wheeling a dolly.
- 3:31Speaker 2: I don't see you doing this.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Me and my brother moved a chair on Saturday. If
- 3:36Speaker 1: you called me and you're like.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Hey, can you move a couch? I'd be like, Bomani,
- 3:39Speaker 2: you've made too much money.
- 3:40Speaker 1: I agree with you. On a general basis, you are correct.
- 3:43Speaker 1: But I thought it was going to take them like
- 3:47Speaker 1: a week or so to bring this couch. And I
- 3:50Speaker 1: was like, okay. I mean, moving the chair wasn't that hard.
- 3:53Speaker 1: We ain't have no dolly. But I called an Uber XXL,
- 3:57Speaker 1: which I did not know existed. What? What?
- 3:59Speaker 2: Yes.
- 4:00Speaker 1: They have an Uber XXL and I learned it existed
- 4:02Speaker 1: because the Uber XL was not up to the task.
- 4:05Speaker 1: And so I was able to move these chains in.
- 4:08Speaker 1: That was no problem. You know what I'm saying? I
- 4:10Speaker 1: think you got a misunderstanding, man. I'm still salt of
- 4:13Speaker 1: the earth. You know what I'm saying?
- 4:16Speaker 2: But if you're really salt of the earth, you wait
- 4:19Speaker 2: out the couch and you bring over a chair and
- 4:21Speaker 2: that's your couch for the eight days that you don't
- 4:24Speaker 2: have one. We don't need to be entertaining people. We're
- 4:27Speaker 2: Watching sports, eating food on our lap on a chair.
- 4:31Speaker 1: That's salt of the earth. This is all I'm saying.
- 4:35Speaker 1: I had it in me to move a couch on
- 4:38Speaker 1: a dolly. That I felt like I could do.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Coming up next, Week on Waves.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Bomani Couch Moving Olympics.
- 4:45Speaker 1: That's right. What I feel like you out here doing
- 4:47Speaker 1: is you out here projecting your bourgeoisie attitudes and putting
- 4:51Speaker 1: them off on me, a real one. You know what
- 4:53Speaker 1: I'm saying?
- 4:55Speaker 2: I did. I spent weeks in Paris for Roland Garros
- 4:59Speaker 2: and it impacted me. One, I saw a move happen
- 5:02Speaker 2: right outside my hotel. where they set up a truck
- 5:05Speaker 2: and a conveyor belt and they moved this person's furniture
- 5:09Speaker 2: into their third bedroom, third floor apartment in like 40 minutes.
- 5:14Speaker 2: And I was like, why is that not a thing
- 5:16Speaker 2: anywhere else? Why are we all using elevators and dollies
- 5:21Speaker 2: and strapping things to our back? And the other thing
- 5:23Speaker 2: that really resonated with me was we got to the airport.
- 5:26Speaker 2: I was getting picked up by a car and the
- 5:28Speaker 2: guy looked at me and my wife and my baby
- 5:31Speaker 2: and all of our bags and went, oh, no, no, no, no, no.
- 5:34Speaker 2: And I said, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We had
- 5:37Speaker 2: gotten a van, but the vans in Europe are not
- 5:40Speaker 2: big enough. And I just realized Americans live very different.
- 5:43Speaker 1: We do.
- 5:44Speaker 2: And I wasn't ready for it.
- 5:46Speaker 1: They are much more compact about space. Like New York
- 5:49Speaker 1: is more compact about space than the rest of America.
- 5:51Speaker 1: But those other places that are somehow actually they feel
- 5:53Speaker 1: more crowded. than new york city does not necessarily like
- 5:57Speaker 1: more people or like that avalanche but still just like
- 6:00Speaker 1: a little uh a little more crowded right this actually
- 6:04Speaker 1: dawned on me and i'm gonna get back to your
- 6:06Speaker 1: trip to paris and a rich people thought about moving
- 6:08Speaker 1: right quick before we talk about ashley's boy do you
- 6:12Speaker 1: ride the subway yes okay okay just making sure.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Not all the time I wouldn't do it today.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I do most of the time slash all of the time.
- 6:21Speaker 1: But today is.
- 6:22Speaker 2: So on a 99 degree day.
- 6:23Speaker 1: But today is a medical emergency. Like this is a little.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I opted out of going to do yoga at a
- 6:28Speaker 1: studio yesterday because I was just like, I'm not going
- 6:31Speaker 1: back outside. I made this mistake once. Yeah.
- 6:34Speaker 2: If it's hot, I'm not using the subway at all.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Yeah. And I'll.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Bro, I'm not trying to sweat and get stared at
- 6:42Speaker 2: and like bump into people. And then someone's trying to
- 6:45Speaker 2: sell me a candy bar. And then there's a drum solo.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Like sometimes, bro, like you talk about the Uber. Those
- 6:52Speaker 2: are the days where I'm going to go for an
- 6:53Speaker 2: extra $ 9. I'm going to get an Uber Black. Yeah.
- 6:56Speaker 2: And I'm going to really soak this in.
- 6:58Speaker 1: It's way more than an extra $ 9. But number two,
- 7:03Speaker 1: the richest thing I've heard of people doing in New York,
- 7:06Speaker 1: a mutual friend of ours used to work with a
- 7:08Speaker 1: very rich person. Um, and the very rich person lived
- 7:12Speaker 1: in a tall building. And what happens is those people
- 7:15Speaker 1: there sometimes, and this happens, I mean, this, this has
- 7:19Speaker 1: happened to me, but it's happens a lot in New
- 7:21Speaker 1: York buildings where you're, the hallways are too narrow for
- 7:25Speaker 1: them to turn the corner with your couch coming out
- 7:27Speaker 1: of the elevator. And so you have to make a
- 7:29Speaker 1: decision about how you want to do it with the couch.
- 7:31Speaker 1: And that will cut your couch in half for you
- 7:35Speaker 1: and then come put it back together. Or they'll figure
- 7:38Speaker 1: out like where it is under the stitching that they
- 7:40Speaker 1: can split in half and do all this. But the
- 7:42Speaker 1: real rich people, they got them couches that's made out
- 7:45Speaker 1: of one piece, right? You can't do that. Them jokers
- 7:49Speaker 1: get cranes.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Bezos just did this.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Yeah, you get a crane to hold your couch and
- 7:56Speaker 1: then they swang that bitch over the balcony and put
- 7:59Speaker 1: it there and then they bring it in.
- 8:02Speaker 2: One day, Bo, we'll be that lucky.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Crane couches.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Yeah. Like, that's what they do, right? And so they
- 8:09Speaker 1: swing that thing over there. Now... My next thing is,
- 8:15Speaker 1: as we get to you having gone to cover the
- 8:17Speaker 1: French Open at Roland Garros, I watched you on television.
- 8:21Speaker 1: You did a good job, and everybody that was watching
- 8:24Speaker 1: you said you did a good job. Like, they out
- 8:26Speaker 1: here killing other people doing television, not Lefkoe. No, sir.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Lefkoe and them got all the props, and then I
- 8:32Speaker 1: just realized you got a job that lets you take
- 8:35Speaker 1: your queen to gay Paris.
- 8:39Speaker 2: That was nice. That's a good sell. However, when you
- 8:42Speaker 2: take your wife and your baby to Paris for 10
- 8:44Speaker 2: days and there's no nanny and there's no grandma and
- 8:46Speaker 2: there's no grandpa, and by day seven, she walks to
- 8:50Speaker 2: the set with the baby and looks at me and goes,
- 8:52Speaker 2: I need something. I need some help right now. And
- 8:55Speaker 2: you're like, I have 15 hours of live television to do,
- 8:59Speaker 2: but give me the child.
- 9:00Speaker 1: You ain't bringing a nanny?
- 9:02Speaker 2: No.
- 9:02Speaker 1: What?
- 9:03Speaker 2: See, like now we're talking rich. That's rich, rich.
- 9:06Speaker 1: You got the free trip to Paris.
- 9:10Speaker 2: You got the free trip.
- 9:11Speaker 1: You had the free hotel. Like I hate to spend
- 9:13Speaker 1: your money.
- 9:14Speaker 2: It was the first trip. And I think we needed
- 9:17Speaker 2: to see, cause again, like you said, like you're going
- 9:20Speaker 2: to move a couch. We're going to take care of
- 9:22Speaker 2: our child, you know, but until you're four, until you're
- 9:26Speaker 2: turning that corner, until you're on day seven, you don't
- 9:29Speaker 2: realize what that's like. And it's wild. Well, I realized
- 9:33Speaker 2: it was amazing. It was amazing.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Among the nanny community. She is shitting on you, brother. Like,
- 9:40Speaker 1: one of the perks of the nanny life is the
- 9:43Speaker 1: occasional trip to the fly place.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Oh, no, you're absolutely wrong. She got paid to sit
- 9:47Speaker 2: at home and do nothing.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I think she'd rather gotten paid to go to Paris.
- 9:52Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 9:53Speaker 1: I think she'd rather gotten paid to go to Paris.
- 9:55Speaker 2: She's uh from saint vincent so her and her sisters
- 9:59Speaker 2: and brothers were partying i hear.
- 10:00Speaker 1: You i hear you i'm just telling you i feel
- 10:03Speaker 1: like when she gets around the other nannies they're like
- 10:05Speaker 1: you didn't go you didn't get to go to paris.
- 10:07Speaker 2: There well listen tnt has rolling arrows for 10 years
- 10:11Speaker 2: so hopefully they're listen like that's the cool part of
- 10:15Speaker 2: the job is man am i going to be doing
- 10:17Speaker 2: this every year for like the, my child's childhood. Like,
- 10:22Speaker 2: is he going to get like yearly trips to Paris? Um,
- 10:26Speaker 2: but no, the, the funny thing is this, um, I
- 10:29Speaker 2: have always been on the other side where a sporting
- 10:31Speaker 2: event goes so well that all of the broadcasters get
- 10:35Speaker 2: credit for it. And I'm not saying I didn't do
- 10:38Speaker 2: a good job, but what I'm saying is it was
- 10:40Speaker 2: really cool to be on the side where Alcaraz and
- 10:43Speaker 2: Sinner like fought for five and a half hours and
- 10:46Speaker 2: in a top five match all time. And people afterwards
- 10:49Speaker 2: were like, TNT did a great job. And I'm like,
- 10:53Speaker 2: we never give the athletes credit for making broadcasters see, like,
- 10:58Speaker 2: we're always like, wow, what a call. And it's like,
- 11:01Speaker 2: all right, well, that was the catch. You know, like,
- 11:03Speaker 2: or that was, you know, the miracle at the Meadowlands.
- 11:06Speaker 2: So I want to say thank you to center and
- 11:08Speaker 2: Alcaraz and Coco golf for giving us some awesome stuff.
- 11:12Speaker 1: I'm trying to remember what else was going on the
- 11:14Speaker 1: day of that center Alcaraz match, but I saw people
- 11:16Speaker 1: tweeting about it, but I never got around to like,
- 11:20Speaker 1: you didn't watch a single second. No, I didn't. I
- 11:23Speaker 1: found out it was, they played.
- 11:24Speaker 2: For five and a half hours and you weren't like.
- 11:26Speaker 1: No, but that's what, but that's what I think happened.
- 11:28Speaker 1: I think I found out about it. Something else was
- 11:31Speaker 1: going on. And this was in the course of me
- 11:32Speaker 1: moving and all of this stuff. Right. So cut me
- 11:34Speaker 1: some slack. But it was one of those where it
- 11:37Speaker 1: was like, oh, it's been going on so long. I mean, damn,
- 11:39Speaker 1: I already missed it. And then it went on for
- 11:41Speaker 1: like another hour and a half type situation.
- 11:44Speaker 2: It's what was really cool to be a part of
- 11:47Speaker 2: is it was cool to be a part of a
- 11:49Speaker 2: sport that everybody went, man, Rafa and Federer and Djokovic
- 11:54Speaker 2: are all done. This sport's going to dip like the NBA.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Once they lost MJ, there was a dip. You know,
- 12:01Speaker 2: we do this with all sports. Tom Brady lost. And
- 12:04Speaker 2: then for these two dudes to come along and go, oh,
- 12:08Speaker 2: they're going to carry it for the next two decades.
- 12:10Speaker 2: And this is the first time they've ever faced off
- 12:13Speaker 2: in a final. That's cool. It's kind of, it felt
- 12:15Speaker 2: like a seminal moment for the sport itself.
- 12:18Speaker 1: I think that a sport like tennis is always going
- 12:20Speaker 1: to be okay in that regard because nobody really like,
- 12:24Speaker 1: There are those great players who stuck around forever, but
- 12:26Speaker 1: not redefining players. Like no game is really quite as static.
- 12:31Speaker 1: There aren't as many rule changes that you can make
- 12:34Speaker 1: to change. The equipment changes over the years, of course,
- 12:37Speaker 1: with the big one. But we're so far beyond the
- 12:39Speaker 1: shift from wooden rackets to the graphite for that, like
- 12:42Speaker 1: to really even count or to be the thing. It
- 12:45Speaker 1: is the game that it basically always is. And then
- 12:47Speaker 1: there's just somebody that's way better than everybody else. And
- 12:50Speaker 1: when two people are really good at tennis and they
- 12:52Speaker 1: play against each other in tennis, it's really, really interesting
- 12:55Speaker 1: to watch, right? And the French Open makes it better
- 12:57Speaker 1: because once you have the advances in the technology, the
- 13:02Speaker 1: long rallies, the French Open still gives you the long rallies.
- 13:05Speaker 2: It gives you those. And I, dude, so again, learning
- 13:08Speaker 2: a new sport is crazy because when you've been in
- 13:12Speaker 2: sports for 20 years, you kind of think you know
- 13:14Speaker 2: a lot. And then you start watching the tennis channel
- 13:17Speaker 2: every day and you're watching clay court season. And I'm learning,
- 13:21Speaker 2: you know, all these Sabalenkas and Svianteks, these names and
- 13:26Speaker 2: where they're from and all that. But then like they
- 13:29Speaker 2: just started playing on grass. They're getting ready for Wimbledon.
- 13:31Speaker 2: And I put on a match and I went, oh,
- 13:33Speaker 2: this is a different sport. Like it's a completely different sport.
- 13:37Speaker 2: All the players that were really good at clay are
- 13:39Speaker 2: not great on grass. And so I feel it's cool
- 13:44Speaker 2: to be learning something for the first time. Like I
- 13:47Speaker 2: always watch tennis, but like you don't really study it.
- 13:51Speaker 2: And I think I had been in NBA and NFL
- 13:54Speaker 2: world for so long, it felt nice to actually learn again.
- 13:57Speaker 2: It's good for the brain.
- 13:58Speaker 1: I feel that. Now, let me ask you, speaking of NBA,
- 14:01Speaker 1: you are a resident Philadelphian, which I only have a
- 14:05Speaker 1: problem with if it's baseball season. God, I hate the Phillies.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Who's your team? Braves?
- 14:10Speaker 1: I grew up with the Braves. Yeah.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Man, what a shitty year for you right now, huh?
- 14:16Speaker 1: I have a relationship with the Braves now where if
- 14:19Speaker 1: it's going well, I'm here.
- 14:21Speaker 2: If not Bryce Harper, the original Caitlin Clark of baseball.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Anyway, no, no, no. I actually find the Bryce Harper
- 14:26Speaker 1: story to be so interesting because we were all so
- 14:30Speaker 1: sure that he was going to be a jerk. And
- 14:31Speaker 1: it really turned out to be the opposite case.
- 14:33Speaker 2: And he was great.
- 14:34Speaker 1: You know, like like we were. There's no way any
- 14:37Speaker 1: of us thought that after the Sports Illustrated cover when
- 14:40Speaker 1: he was in high school and all of that stuff.
- 14:42Speaker 1: there's no way possible that anybody could have thought that
- 14:44Speaker 1: he would turn out to be the personality archetype that
- 14:47Speaker 1: he actually is. Like a player perfectly made for Philadelphia.
- 14:52Speaker 1: None of us, none of us would have had that.
- 14:56Speaker 2: It's not to transition for you, but there are things
- 14:59Speaker 2: that young people do that we unfairly criticize them for,
- 15:03Speaker 2: for a while. And Ace Bailey's doing that right now.
- 15:07Speaker 1: That is. So I think all of us thought going
- 15:10Speaker 1: into this draft, whoever gets the number three pick, They're
- 15:13Speaker 1: going to take Ace Bailey, right?
- 15:15Speaker 2: Take him.
- 15:15Speaker 1: But one thing that happened that is amazing, they told
- 15:18Speaker 1: us he was 6'10 and he's 6'7 and a half.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Brother, they were telling us he was 6'11.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Yo, first of all.
- 15:25Speaker 2: I covered early on Alabama Rutgers. It was like game
- 15:29Speaker 2: two or three. I was in studio. And one, I
- 15:33Speaker 2: watched Dylan Harper and I went, this is Cade Cunningham 2.0. Like,
- 15:36Speaker 2: this guy's incredible. But then every time Ace Bailey took
- 15:39Speaker 2: a shot, I went, and he's 6'11. And he's 6'7 1⁄2.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Right. How did nobody call bullshit on this? The difference
- 15:48Speaker 1: between 6'7 1⁄2 and 6'10, 6'11, is nuts. But that's
- 15:52Speaker 1: what they told us. And I will say this, though.
- 15:55Speaker 1: He sure felt like he was 6'10, those few times
- 15:58Speaker 1: I watched him play.
- 15:59Speaker 2: He looked really long, yeah.
- 16:00Speaker 1: He, so there are people who believe that he is
- 16:05Speaker 1: intentionally taking his draft stock to get to whichever team
- 16:09Speaker 1: that he wants to get to. And I've heard a
- 16:10Speaker 1: couple of teams. I don't think it's responsible.
- 16:11Speaker 2: New Orleans and Washington.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Okay. So yeah, New Orleans is the one that I heard.
- 16:16Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Right.
- 16:17Speaker 1: If you're, if you're playing, if your plan is to
- 16:19Speaker 1: get to New Orleans, I can kind of see it.
- 16:22Speaker 1: If your plan is to get to the Wizards, I
- 16:23Speaker 1: can only assume that you guys are losers.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Right.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Like, why would you? Why would you? What? I'm 44
- 16:30Speaker 1: years old and the Wizards haven't won 50 games in
- 16:33Speaker 1: my life. I've been doing that bit right there for
- 16:38Speaker 1: 15 years. No correction for 18 years. And I've never
- 16:42Speaker 1: had to stop. I think they got to 49 one time.
- 16:45Speaker 1: But he I admit this also. There is a certain
- 16:50Speaker 1: level of assumption that I make about how good Mr.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Bailey is. based on the fact that he has convinced
- 16:57Speaker 1: all these people to call him Ace. What's his actual name? A-I-R-U-S,
- 17:01Speaker 1: I believe.
- 17:05Speaker 2: A-I-R-U-S.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Yeah, let me look this up. You get everybody to
- 17:10Speaker 1: call you a name like Ace, then I'm like, A-I-R-I-O-U-S.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Dude, we called Daniel Gibson Boobie his entire career.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Yeah, but see, that's different though, right? Boobie is clearly
- 17:20Speaker 1: what your mom and your people called you and then
- 17:21Speaker 1: somebody went home and- Could have been Ace. No, but Ace.
- 17:25Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of other nicknames like- That's like
- 17:28Speaker 1: when they call you Shaq. You're something if they make
- 17:32Speaker 1: the decision to call you Shaq. You're a big guy,
- 17:34Speaker 1: if nothing else, if they decide to call you Shaq.
- 17:35Speaker 2: So you're saying the nickname, the name Ace, you have
- 17:39Speaker 2: to be a top three pick.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Got it. That implies that you a beast for real.
- 17:43Speaker 1: You know, like those people who named their kids. Actually,
- 17:46Speaker 1: it's going to be kind of funny. These people who
- 17:48Speaker 1: named their kids King Ace.
- 17:50Speaker 2: You're an asshole.
- 17:51Speaker 1: No, I didn't do it on purpose. It dawned on
- 17:53Speaker 1: me as I started. I didn't do it on purpose. No,
- 17:55Speaker 1: but King and Prince are different spaces, right?
- 17:57Speaker 2: My son's name is Prince.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Yeah, Prince is a different space. But when you go
- 18:00Speaker 1: all the way to King, right? Because look, when you
- 18:03Speaker 1: name him Prince, he's still a prince, right? Like he's
- 18:06Speaker 1: still in this space. When you go all the way
- 18:08Speaker 1: to King, that motherfucker better be a beast.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Well, you know, our second child, which we haven't created yet,
- 18:14Speaker 2: but we might go Lord Lefkoe.
- 18:16Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Really?
- 18:17Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. Like, once you go there, you
- 18:20Speaker 1: are telling this kid, the expectations are very clear.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Yeah, honestly, I don't. After calling the first one Prince,
- 18:26Speaker 2: I don't know where I'm going on the second one.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Because I can't be like, this is Prince and this
- 18:29Speaker 2: is Todd.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:30Speaker 2: I can't do that.
- 18:31Speaker 1: See, to me, once you go with naming the kid Prince- Okay.
- 18:35Speaker 2: How did this turn into this? We're focused on age.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Okay, I'm just saying. All I'm saying is this. Prince
- 18:40Speaker 1: sounds like you may never have to get a job, right?
- 18:42Speaker 1: King sounds like you're the ruler of the world. There's
- 18:45Speaker 1: space between those two things, right? Naming him Prince actually
- 18:49Speaker 1: makes you king, right?
- 18:52Speaker 2: Quick aside. Have you heard of the Mariners catcher Cal
- 18:57Speaker 2: Rowling's nickname? The Big Dumper? Oh, I did.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Nah, can't be.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Incredible. Yes, I knew you didn't know. For those that
- 19:06Speaker 2: don't watch baseball, I'm watching a lot of baseball right now.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Kyle Rowley leads major leagues with 32 home runs. He's
- 19:11Speaker 2: on pace for 67. He's a freaking catcher. And his
- 19:14Speaker 2: very popular nickname is The Big Dumper, which a teammate
- 19:18Speaker 2: gave to him because you know why.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Nah, buddy. We're not taking that out of the locker room.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Or excuse me, the clubhouse. Sorry.
- 19:26Speaker 2: I was going to say, but now the nickname has
- 19:27Speaker 2: taken on a life of its own. Even his mom said, hey,
- 19:30Speaker 2: I'm not really a fan of it, but it's so popular.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Now you're getting known for your butt. You're the big dumper.
- 19:36Speaker 1: You got to come up with another one. You got
- 19:37Speaker 1: to come up with another one because your partners ain't
- 19:39Speaker 1: even supposed to know that. Baseball dudes are kind of weird.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Baseball is... like that is.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Yeah baseball made me think of this do we look
- 19:51Speaker 2: back at some of these nicknames with a little bit
- 19:53Speaker 2: difference now the big unit you know randy.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Johnson i admit that even then i was kind of
- 19:58Speaker 1: like huh what are we what are we going for.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Here oscar robertson the big oh.
- 20:07Speaker 1: I see i see the vision And.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Then I still think the name that has cracked me
- 20:11Speaker 2: out my entire life is Magic Johnson, but that's just me.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Look, okay, this is another great point in line with
- 20:18Speaker 1: what I was saying about Ace. Now, granted, they didn't
- 20:20Speaker 1: start calling Magic Johnson Magic until college, but the point
- 20:24Speaker 1: of how cold Magic Johnson is is we just call
- 20:27Speaker 1: him that. We don't even act like it's weird. We
- 20:31Speaker 1: just call him that. Who's that?
- 20:32Speaker 2: Magic.
- 20:33Speaker 1: You know how good you have to be for us
- 20:35Speaker 1: to be like, yeah, you're Magic. We didn't walk around
- 20:37Speaker 1: calling Jordan Ayer Magic.
- 20:41Speaker 2: He had a few good nicknames. The Black Cat.
- 20:43Speaker 1: The Black Cat is.
- 20:45Speaker 2: But yeah, okay. So my thing with Ace, and I
- 20:48Speaker 2: thought as a Philadelphia fan, I was very offended when
- 20:52Speaker 2: he turned down the workout and the interview when apparently
- 20:56Speaker 2: they had reservations. So, you know, man, tough get at
- 20:59Speaker 2: the Continental in Philly or the Four Seasons. But then
- 21:03Speaker 2: also threw out the first pitch for the Mets the
- 21:06Speaker 2: same weekend. That, to me, was diabolical. For him to
- 21:11Speaker 2: be like, Daryl Morey, I'm not meeting with you, and
- 21:13Speaker 2: now I'm wearing the blue hat of the New York
- 21:15Speaker 2: Mets was crazy. I just feel like he doesn't fit.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Once it came out that he wasn't 6'11, then you
- 21:25Speaker 2: start looking at the advanced analytics, and the advanced analytics
- 21:29Speaker 2: community doesn't like him at all in terms of assists
- 21:32Speaker 2: and athleticism and all this stuff. Then I just started going,
- 21:36Speaker 2: these are the actions of someone who knows the Sixers
- 21:39Speaker 2: are likely not going to take him and are trying
- 21:42Speaker 2: to say, you know what? I don't even want to
- 21:45Speaker 2: go there. So for me, it seems more defensive than aggressive.
- 21:51Speaker 2: I don't know. I mean, the Sixers, how can you
- 21:53Speaker 2: trust anything they do? But at the same time, you
- 21:56Speaker 2: talk about him wanting to go to Washington. The Pacers
- 22:00Speaker 2: aren't going to have Halliburton next season. The Celtics aren't
- 22:02Speaker 2: going to have Tatum next season. The Knicks don't have
- 22:05Speaker 2: a coach right now. No one trusts the Cleveland Cavaliers
- 22:08Speaker 2: for anything. Orlando is now a top three team in
- 22:12Speaker 2: the East, according to Vegas. And I'm sitting there going,
- 22:15Speaker 2: the Pistons are 19-1 to win the East. That might
- 22:18Speaker 2: not be crazy. And then meanwhile, you got a maybe
- 22:22Speaker 2: healthy Embiid who won the MVP last If Paul George
- 22:26Speaker 2: comes back to life in year two, you got Halliburton,
- 22:29Speaker 2: you got McCain, you got all these guys, and you
- 22:32Speaker 2: add Ace Bailey, Ace Bailey can learn from Paul George. Like,
- 22:35Speaker 2: it's a really good situation if you're Ace Bailey. You
- 22:38Speaker 2: got a coach that won a championship. It's just people go, well,
- 22:43Speaker 2: Philly's going to Philly. Like, it's a really good spot
- 22:45Speaker 2: for Ace, but I just don't want the guy that's
- 22:50Speaker 2: shorter than we thought he was, slower than he thought
- 22:53Speaker 2: he was, and doesn't show up to workouts. Like, I just,
- 22:56Speaker 2: that guy doesn't have a good track record in my mind.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Because Anthony Edwards didn't go work out for teams. But
- 23:02Speaker 2: then I put on Anthony Edwards at Georgia Highlights last night.
- 23:05Speaker 2: And I went, oh, no, no. He didn't have to
- 23:07Speaker 2: go to work out.
- 23:08Speaker 1: No, no.
- 23:09Speaker 2: This is a different guy.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Yeah, he's in the Deion Sanders. Where are y'all picking? 18?
- 23:12Speaker 1: I ain't going to be there at 18.
- 23:14Speaker 2: I'm not going to be there. There's a difference. Ace
- 23:18Speaker 2: is not that. That was different.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Here's my Ace Bailey advanced statistic. And it's also a
- 23:25Speaker 1: Dylan Harper advanced statistic. You're telling me that we're looking
- 23:30Speaker 1: at two to three top picks in the draft and
- 23:34Speaker 1: y'all didn't make the tournament.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Like, I don't know.
- 23:38Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know. Bingo. I don't know
- 23:41Speaker 1: how either one of them shakes that because we tried
- 23:43Speaker 1: to write that off with Ben Simmons. And yeah, I.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Think Markel Fultz.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:47Speaker 2: And to be fair, Anthony Edwards was less under 500,
- 23:50Speaker 2: but that was different.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Yeah. But I also think, and I think I felt
- 23:53Speaker 1: the same way about Fultz. Like we never saw the
- 23:55Speaker 1: Fultz that people were talking about that got us in.
- 23:58Speaker 1: But with Simmons, to be fair to him, what doomed
- 24:02Speaker 1: him is probably not what made them a team that
- 24:04Speaker 1: didn't make the tournament. Right. Like what ultimately caught up
- 24:06Speaker 1: with him. But these two guys, it's two of you.
- 24:10Speaker 1: How in the world two of you get to play
- 24:12Speaker 1: at the same time? And y'all didn't make the tournament.
- 24:15Speaker 1: I don't care if you're Rutgers or not. Why the
- 24:18Speaker 1: hell did y'all go there anyway? I know, but.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Same reason AJ DeBanso went to BYU.
- 24:24Speaker 1: No, that's still... That is the low-key.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Their games will be on TNT this fall.
- 24:29Speaker 1: That is the low-key amazing story of the year that's
- 24:31Speaker 1: coming up. How do you say his last name again?
- 24:33Speaker 2: I think it's DeBanso.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Okay, so it is this young man. I can't remember
- 24:37Speaker 1: where in Africa he is from, but he's an African cat.
- 24:41Speaker 1: And he went to high school in Utah because the
- 24:44Speaker 1: dude that owns the Jazz floated the bread for him
- 24:47Speaker 1: to go to high school there.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Shout out Ryan Smith.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Yeah, Ryan Smith, yes. And then he's also the guy
- 24:52Speaker 1: that owns their hockey team. But anyway, then they got
- 24:54Speaker 1: him to go to BYU because watch out, BYU is
- 24:57Speaker 1: going to be a player in this NIL era because
- 24:58Speaker 1: that church got cash. So... They got him to go there.
- 25:02Speaker 1: And obviously the plan for Utah is to try to
- 25:06Speaker 1: then draft him. But that's not really the draft of
- 25:08Speaker 1: the lottery doesn't work that well. So how is Ryan
- 25:11Speaker 1: Smith going to figure out how to get the full
- 25:13Speaker 1: payoff with his investment?
- 25:15Speaker 2: Just to clarify, he was. grew up in Massachusetts. Now
- 25:19Speaker 2: he is of Congolese and Jamaican origin. His father grew
- 25:22Speaker 2: up in France, but he is a Boston kid.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Okay. Thank you. That is a, wait a minute.
- 25:27Speaker 2: I just want to clarify.
- 25:28Speaker 1: So he got a Congolese Boston accent.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Congolese Jamaican.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:35Speaker 2: What a combo. And now he's been hanging out with Mormons.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Yes. I don't know. I can't, I got so many
- 25:42Speaker 1: questions about that.
- 25:43Speaker 2: My, my pair, my father and mother-in-law. When they came
- 25:48Speaker 2: over from Nigeria to go to school, the first place
- 25:51Speaker 2: they moved to was Utah. And they were there for two,
- 25:54Speaker 2: three years. And they said it was like, look, Nigerian
- 25:58Speaker 2: people love everybody for the most part. But they say
- 26:02Speaker 2: the people in Utah were the nicest people ever. I
- 26:05Speaker 2: don't think I told this story before, but when my
- 26:07Speaker 2: wife's oldest brother was born in a Utah hospital, there
- 26:10Speaker 2: was a line around the corner of doctors saying, And
- 26:14Speaker 2: my wife's parents were in line and one of the
- 26:16Speaker 2: doctors came and got him and said, you shouldn't be
- 26:18Speaker 2: in this line. And they were in the line because
- 26:20Speaker 2: none of them had seen a black newborn before.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Wow.
- 26:24Speaker 2: And it was like 40 doctors and nurses. But of course, like,
- 26:27Speaker 2: you know, Nigerians, they were like, of course, everybody wants
- 26:30Speaker 2: to see our child. He is the chosen child. Like
- 26:34Speaker 2: this child is the greatest. That's why they call their
- 26:37Speaker 2: kids prince.
- 26:38Speaker 1: They have never seen brilliants. Yes.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Like this.
- 26:42Speaker 1: But.
- 26:43Speaker 2: It's looked at. I had a great time at the
- 26:46Speaker 2: Salt Lake City All-Star game. I mean, you can't really
- 26:49Speaker 2: go out till two, three in the morning, so you
- 26:51Speaker 2: can't live that life. But I thought it was fun.
- 26:53Speaker 1: I have had multiple people tell me that the wildest
- 26:56Speaker 1: night of their lives were in Salt Lake City.
- 26:59Speaker 2: That's scary. I will say this. The one player that
- 27:02Speaker 2: I would take after Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper that
- 27:07Speaker 2: I'm not really seeing people talk about. It's the BYU
- 27:11Speaker 2: kid that's not going to be there, which is Agor Demmon.
- 27:14Speaker 2: He's like this 6'9 point guard. Go on the YouTube,
- 27:18Speaker 2: watch the highlights. Because I have to do March Madness,
- 27:22Speaker 2: and so you watch a lot of college basketball, and
- 27:24Speaker 2: I just watch this 6'9 point guard stopping and hitting
- 27:29Speaker 2: threes and diming. And I would take, that's my guy.
- 27:32Speaker 2: I think it's important to have a guy. You know,
- 27:35Speaker 2: you can argue about the Ace Bailey's and stuff, but
- 27:36Speaker 2: who's your guy? My guy's Agor Demmon.
- 27:39Speaker 1: I can be honest with you, brother.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Never seen him.
- 27:41Speaker 1: You could have told me BYU had a three-legged, red-headed
- 27:44Speaker 1: Chinese point guard, and I'd have had no clue whatsoever.
- 27:51Speaker 1: I'm familiar with that dude who plays for Florida.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Walter Clayton Jr.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Here we go. Yeah, Pops. That is a very Pops name. Walter?
- 28:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it is a tough one. It does. It sounds
- 28:06Speaker 2: like a fake name that you give it a name.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Honestly, his dad is too young to be Walter Sr. Like,
- 28:12Speaker 1: his dad should be a junior or a third if
- 28:15Speaker 1: we're still out here cranking out Walters.
- 28:17Speaker 2: In our profession of broadcasting, how do draft experts avoid
- 28:23Speaker 2: all blowback for being wrong all the time?
- 28:27Speaker 1: A recognition that it's a very difficult job.
- 28:30Speaker 2: But then they get called experts. So how do we
- 28:34Speaker 2: simultaneously go, no one can be good at this, and
- 28:36Speaker 2: then be like, and now, our expert.
- 28:38Speaker 1: I'm just saying.
- 28:39Speaker 2: How do we do that?
- 28:40Speaker 1: Ty Cobb was the all-time leader in batting average at 367, right?
- 28:45Speaker 1: This is more like a batting average sport than it
- 28:47Speaker 1: is a free throw percentage sport that we're talking about.
- 28:50Speaker 1: That is the argument.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Because that made me think of Mel Kuyper. who went
- 28:56Speaker 2: very viral this year for arguing about Shador Sanders, who
- 29:01Speaker 2: I kind of feel like is suffering the same fate
- 29:04Speaker 2: as A.S. Bailey from this.
- 29:06Speaker 1: But getting horrendous advice from whoever's telling you what to do?
- 29:10Speaker 2: Number one. But I also think, number two, you and
- 29:14Speaker 2: I have both worked for websites that were, it was
- 29:17Speaker 2: very important for clicks. Yes. And as soon as a
- 29:21Speaker 2: draft would end, it would go, okay, here are The
- 29:26Speaker 2: first round mock draft for next year. And because we
- 29:30Speaker 2: worked for those websites, we knew, well, this is a
- 29:32Speaker 2: bunch of crap. Like, who knows? Like, they're just taking
- 29:35Speaker 2: the top ranked sophomores or juniors right Shador was listed
- 29:40Speaker 2: as a top two pick. Ace Bailey was listed as
- 29:43Speaker 2: a top three pick before their seasons began. And I
- 29:47Speaker 2: feel like they had it in their heads the entire season.
- 29:50Speaker 2: I'm that guy. So I'm going to go through the
- 29:52Speaker 2: draft prospect as the guy from a year ago. And
- 29:57Speaker 2: people were like, well, why would you think this? Well,
- 29:59Speaker 2: because the entire off season and beginning of the year,
- 30:02Speaker 2: you called me a top three pick. I think these
- 30:06Speaker 2: bullshit mock drafts, these way too early mock drafts that
- 30:11Speaker 2: we know are nonsense is impacting the youth. That's what
- 30:15Speaker 2: I think.
- 30:15Speaker 1: I think there's something to that, right? And this is
- 30:17Speaker 1: the generation that comes up with star lists, right? So
- 30:19Speaker 1: like you come up as whatever star guy. Now, of course,
- 30:22Speaker 1: Shadurah Sanders should know I came up as a no
- 30:24Speaker 1: star or a two star or three star or whatever
- 30:26Speaker 1: it was, right? So these things can only have so
- 30:29Speaker 1: much credence. But we got to go make a little
- 30:32Speaker 1: money right fast. But when we come back, If you
- 30:35Speaker 1: listened to the last time Adam Lefkoe was on here,
- 30:38Speaker 1: he's going to turn the tables on things. Find out
- 30:40Speaker 1: what I mean on the right time. Let me tell
- 30:44Speaker 1: you about Z Biotics pre-alcohol probiotic. Z Biotics pre-alcohol probiotic
- 30:50Speaker 1: drink is the world's first genetically engineered probiotic. It was
- 30:54Speaker 1: invented by PhD scientists to tackle rough mornings after drinking.
- 30:58Speaker 1: Here's how it works. When you drink, alcohol gets converted
- 31:01Speaker 1: into a toxic byproduct in the gut. It's a buildup
- 31:04Speaker 1: of this byproduct, not dehydration, that's to blame for rough
- 31:09Speaker 1: days after drinking. Pre-alcohol produces an enzyme to break this
- 31:13Speaker 1: byproduct down. Just remember to make pre-alcohol your first drink
- 31:17Speaker 1: of the night. Drink responsibly and you'll feel your best tomorrow.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Summer is here, which means more opportunities to celebrate the

- 31:33Speaker 1: don't forget your Zebiotics pre-alcohol. Drink one before drinking and

- 33:24Speaker 1: That's Cash App. We are back with, I always say
- 33:29Speaker 1: Adam Lefkoe, but I forget he a one-name star over
- 33:31Speaker 1: there at Turner. When I went in- I'm back.
- 33:33Speaker 2: You can do Adam.
- 33:34Speaker 1: You can do Adam. Thank you for permission, sir. I
- 33:37Speaker 1: appreciate that. When I did the alt cast with you,
- 33:39Speaker 1: which I was.
- 33:40Speaker 2: Very- You're a Beaumont-y.
- 33:42Speaker 1: That's different though. Well, no, it's not. Anyway. Yeah, yeah.
- 33:46Speaker 1: You're not wrong. How often do.
- 33:48Speaker 2: People call you Mr. Jones? I mean, at the bank-
- 33:54Speaker 2: They better say Mr. Joe.
- 33:55Speaker 1: We all let that sit. We all let that sit.
- 33:58Speaker 1: They either made it really funny or even more obnoxious.
- 34:01Speaker 2: Yeah, you know that if you show up to the
- 34:02Speaker 2: bank one time and they're like, hey, Bomani, and you're like,
- 34:04Speaker 2: are my funds okay?
- 34:05Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Now, here's
- 34:07Speaker 1: the thing about it. They either call you Mr. or
- 34:08Speaker 1: they don't call you nothing. You know what I'm saying?
- 34:10Speaker 1: Like like they're not they're not hitting you with the
- 34:13Speaker 1: intermediate step in that. But I did the all cast
- 34:16Speaker 1: with Adam Lefkoe and Vince Carter and Chris Haynes. And
- 34:20Speaker 1: I was really disappointed. I was hoping that we were
- 34:21Speaker 1: going to do it again this year for no other
- 34:23Speaker 1: reason than it paid by the game. And it was
- 34:25Speaker 1: a lot of fun.
- 34:26Speaker 2: You were you were making.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Oh, God, it was so good. But it was such
- 34:29Speaker 1: a great time. Like, I really enjoyed that. I was
- 34:30Speaker 1: very disappointed that we did not do that again.
- 34:35Speaker 2: There was a lot of changes this year in media.
- 34:38Speaker 1: Well, there was that, right? And I'm still not sure
- 34:41Speaker 1: if Chris got over it when they asked me if
- 34:44Speaker 1: me and Chris Hayes did a podcast, what it would
- 34:46Speaker 1: be called. And I was like, oh, the Beaumont Jones Show.
- 34:49Speaker 1: I don't think he thought that was nearly as funny.
- 34:50Speaker 2: As I did. But yeah, I have questions for you.
- 34:56Speaker 2: I have 50 questions for you.
- 34:57Speaker 1: All right.
- 34:58Speaker 2: And I just need you to pick a number one
- 35:00Speaker 2: through 50. And I'm going to go through, it's called
- 35:02Speaker 2: Lefkoe GPT. It's random questions that I may or may
- 35:06Speaker 2: not have eaten a cookie and thought about that I
- 35:09Speaker 2: thought you would enjoy.
- 35:10Speaker 1: All right.
- 35:10Speaker 2: So whenever you're ready.
- 35:11Speaker 1: My mother's birthday was yesterday, the 23rd. So I am
- 35:14Speaker 1: going to go with 23. Okay. 23. I like that.
- 35:17Speaker 2: 23 is my Gen Z question.
- 35:18Speaker 1: Oh, no.
- 35:25Speaker 2: I don't know if you saw, but after the title,
- 35:27Speaker 2: Oklahoma City partied for reported 8 to 10 minutes. Reporters
- 35:31Speaker 2: were saying it was the most subdued locker room they
- 35:34Speaker 2: had ever seen. J-Dub took his first ever drink of
- 35:38Speaker 2: alcohol and called it disgusting. Recent studies say that Gen
- 35:43Speaker 2: Z drinks 20% less than millennials. Are the championship ragers
- 35:48Speaker 2: a thing of the past?
- 35:49Speaker 1: So I found that to be interesting. Also, I, as non-drinker,
- 35:54Speaker 1: was like, huh, good for you kids, right? Like you
- 35:57Speaker 1: guys are not getting pressured into this because that's a
- 35:59Speaker 1: very easy thing that can happen. Are the championship ragers over? Nah,
- 36:05Speaker 1: because I don't know if a team this young, like
- 36:08Speaker 1: this isn't necessarily going to be a thing. Like I
- 36:10Speaker 1: want to see how the zoomers- Is.
- 36:12Speaker 2: This not the canary in the coal mine to show
- 36:14Speaker 2: us what these kids, like you just think when they
- 36:16Speaker 2: turn 26, they're going to start drinking?
- 36:18Speaker 1: Well, no, I think that the next year, if you
- 36:21Speaker 1: get a team with a few more grownups, it'll start
- 36:23Speaker 1: looking a little different. it is entirely possible that as
- 36:27Speaker 1: things go on, as life goes on, them boys start
- 36:30Speaker 1: turning to the bottle a little differently. You never know
- 36:35Speaker 1: how it's going to play. But what I thought was
- 36:37Speaker 1: most interesting was Alice Caruso being the only person that
- 36:41Speaker 1: knew how to open a champagne bottle. And I think
- 36:44Speaker 1: that this is a function partially of Zoomer and partially
- 36:47Speaker 1: of We live in Oklahoma City. This stuff just doesn't
- 36:51Speaker 1: come up in our world. Apparently, I don't know what
- 36:54Speaker 1: they spent all night doing, playing Fortnite and, well, I
- 36:58Speaker 1: won't say that other part, but playing a lot of Fortnite.
- 37:01Speaker 2: After Coco Gauff won the finals in studio and they're going, hey,
- 37:08Speaker 2: we're probably going to get Coco Gauff in the next
- 37:09Speaker 2: hour or two for an interview. Oh, amazing. I had
- 37:13Speaker 2: a runner go and get us seven bottles of champagne
- 37:16Speaker 2: and my idea was should we just do an NBA
- 37:19Speaker 2: locker celebration with Coco and I'm sitting there with like
- 37:22Speaker 2: Jim Currier and Chrissy Everett they're like we're not getting
- 37:25Speaker 2: sprayed by champagne I was like okay never mind never
- 37:27Speaker 2: mind but then when she came in I said here
- 37:30Speaker 2: you go and she goes I've never popped a bottle
- 37:32Speaker 2: of champagne before and I was like really so I
- 37:36Speaker 2: taught her how to do it she popped it and
- 37:38Speaker 2: then she went I've never had champagne either and Cause
- 37:41Speaker 2: I'm 21 years old. And the last time I won,
- 37:44Speaker 2: I was 18 years old, the U S open. And
- 37:47Speaker 2: that was her first time. And I'm like, it's just
- 37:50Speaker 2: not a, you know, man, when we were 19, get
- 37:53Speaker 2: closing on 21.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Well, did you ever drink at all? Yeah. I had
- 37:56Speaker 1: my run. I had my run.
- 37:57Speaker 2: So you had the anticipation of drinking.
- 38:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:00Speaker 2: They don't even have that.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:02Speaker 2: They're not interested.
- 38:03Speaker 1: That is. Yeah. That I did think that that was
- 38:06Speaker 1: a fascinating thing to watch. Just the idea that they
- 38:09Speaker 1: were just kind of like, no, we're going to do this.
- 38:11Speaker 1: They didn't go to Vegas. That shocked me because I
- 38:15Speaker 1: was certain that they would be on the first thing.
- 38:18Speaker 1: I would have been on the first thing smoking. The
- 38:21Speaker 1: only team I could think of that wasn't on the
- 38:23Speaker 1: first thing smoking was the Mavericks because they were already
- 38:25Speaker 1: in Miami and they just went and bought out Lyft.
- 38:28Speaker 2: Those are the ones that I think about are the
- 38:30Speaker 2: Mavericks at like a club in Miami. I also am curious.
- 38:34Speaker 2: I saw, and I guess it's always been like this.
- 38:36Speaker 2: There were like a lot of reporters in the locker
- 38:38Speaker 2: room that are like, you know, they go there expecting
- 38:41Speaker 2: to get champagne. Like they're the ones reporting that it
- 38:43Speaker 2: was lame. Yeah. I believe that there should be like
- 38:46Speaker 2: 20 minutes of no media. And if, but like maybe
- 38:49Speaker 2: there's cameras in the corner so we can document it.
- 38:52Speaker 2: But like, I would also have a hard time partying
- 38:55Speaker 2: if like, I don't know, like an older reporter was
- 38:58Speaker 2: there being like, how is this? Like, I wouldn't want
- 39:01Speaker 2: to party.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Wow, what a meme you just made there. But their collective, like, athletes'
- 39:06Speaker 1: collective ability to act like nobody's watching is amazing. Like
- 39:09Speaker 1: the whole, hey, we're playing in front of 20,000 people
- 39:11Speaker 1: and acting like nobody's watching. Like that is a crazy
- 39:13Speaker 1: thing to me generally that they are, you know, that
- 39:15Speaker 1: they could be able to do. But I also think
- 39:17Speaker 1: what happened in the rationale behind a lot of the
- 39:19Speaker 1: criticism from the reporters about that People who do drink
- 39:23Speaker 1: are made very uncomfortable quite often by people who do not.
- 39:27Speaker 1: And the people in there and we we work in
- 39:29Speaker 1: a hard drinking industry right they them kids not drinking
- 39:33Speaker 1: make a lot of people look at themselves like damn
- 39:38Speaker 1: what kind of life am i living because i didn't
- 39:39Speaker 1: even win the championship but i can't wait to go
- 39:42Speaker 1: get fucked up after we get out.
- 39:43Speaker 2: Of here i've never thought about it you are right
- 39:47Speaker 2: People in broadcasting and media love to get that drink
- 39:50Speaker 2: after work. And then they show you a completely different
- 39:53Speaker 2: side of themselves.
- 39:54Speaker 1: Yes.
- 39:54Speaker 2: And you're like, wait, this is who you are? Wow.
- 39:58Speaker 1: I had no idea. Yeah.
- 40:01Speaker 2: And in fact, I kind of like the other version.
- 40:04Speaker 2: I do have a follow-up for your question number 23,
- 40:06Speaker 2: because I think it gets to a bigger point. We
- 40:10Speaker 2: had people criticizing Tatum last year for not being original
- 40:14Speaker 2: with Kobe and Halliburton was getting some hate, I guess,
- 40:17Speaker 2: about like the D Wade stuff. This goes back to
- 40:21Speaker 2: this Gen Z. I'm watching graduations where people are putting
- 40:24Speaker 2: the chat GPT logo on their cap, just like admitting
- 40:27Speaker 2: that they use it. Are we also experiencing the death
- 40:31Speaker 2: of originality in sports? And is it their fault or
- 40:35Speaker 2: is it just like a copy and paste situation?
- 40:38Speaker 1: Like, will we ever get it back? No, I don't
- 40:40Speaker 1: think we'll get it back. And it's not just sports.
- 40:41Speaker 1: I just saw a trailer on TV the other day.
- 40:44Speaker 1: They're remaking I Know What You Did Last Summer. Right.
- 40:49Speaker 1: It's not like we're just like knocking off the dust
- 40:51Speaker 1: off classics and like giving a new spin on something. Right.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Like you could always break out Othello, for example.
- 40:57Speaker 2: Right.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Like, you know, like you've always got that. No, we
- 41:00Speaker 1: are some total like when they when they brought back
- 41:03Speaker 1: the great. But who are the chefs commercial for Snickers?
- 41:06Speaker 1: I can't tell if they brought it back as an
- 41:10Speaker 1: homage or they were just like they won't. They might
- 41:13Speaker 1: not even know. That this is what it was. But
- 41:16Speaker 1: everywhere across the board, I look at it in the
- 41:18Speaker 1: creation of all these things. Have you watched the studio,
- 41:22Speaker 1: the Seth Rogen joint on Apple TV?
- 41:25Speaker 2: I haven't, so I can't add.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Okay, so there's a running theme, and I'm not ruining
- 41:30Speaker 1: anything by saying this, but a running thing about it
- 41:32Speaker 1: is that studio owns the intellectual property for the Kool-Aid man.
- 41:39Speaker 1: And so it's all about making a Kool-Aid man movie
- 41:42Speaker 1: and how valuable it is that you have the IP
- 41:45Speaker 1: for something like the Kool-Aid man. But everything is knocking
- 41:49Speaker 1: the dust off of something that was already done. So
- 41:51Speaker 1: like the thing with Tatum, I didn't get I didn't
- 41:54Speaker 1: get on Tatum that hard because I was like, if
- 41:56Speaker 1: you live on your phone and live on the Internet
- 41:59Speaker 1: and on the Internet, people speak in meme. Then when
- 42:02Speaker 1: it becomes your time, you are going to speak in
- 42:06Speaker 1: a meme because that's what gets the people going when
- 42:08Speaker 1: you do it on the internet.
- 42:09Speaker 2: I want to ask question number one because it all
- 42:13Speaker 2: goes with this. I have noticed a few sports media
- 42:16Speaker 2: personalities that are suddenly posting on X long and thorough
- 42:21Speaker 2: takes that have all the qualities of of a word
- 42:24Speaker 2: for word chat GPT generated response. I'm not gonna say
- 42:28Speaker 2: their names now. I will show you the tweets afterwards.
- 42:31Speaker 2: Should these people feel shame for not sharing original ideas
- 42:35Speaker 2: on a social media platform that's all about that, or
- 42:39Speaker 2: are they using a tool to refine their ideas?
- 42:41Speaker 1: No, you fucking dork. You can't come up with a
- 42:44Speaker 1: take by yourself. First of all, it ain't gotta be long.
- 42:47Speaker 2: Right?
- 42:47Speaker 1: There's nothing dumber than giving away for free in long
- 42:50Speaker 1: form on the tweets in the first place. People ain't
- 42:53Speaker 1: got no attention span for all of that. No, those
- 42:56Speaker 1: people should be ashamed of themselves. I did not know
- 42:59Speaker 1: that this was a thing.
- 43:00Speaker 2: I've noticed it. I sent it to our friend Nick
- 43:02Speaker 2: Wright yesterday, and he was like, how can you tell
- 43:05Speaker 2: that this is ChatGPT? And I said, well, one, they
- 43:08Speaker 2: use an em dash, which is like this elongated dash
- 43:11Speaker 2: that only ChatGPT uses. And I said, also... I was like,
- 43:15Speaker 2: people think a chat GPT or AI is just going
- 43:18Speaker 2: to use like a million different styles. It has a
- 43:21Speaker 2: very defined writing style.
- 43:23Speaker 1: Yes.
- 43:24Speaker 2: And so anytime I see someone say something like, it's
- 43:26Speaker 2: not a plant, it's a forest in the making. Or
- 43:30Speaker 2: it's not an issue. It's just something that hasn't been
- 43:32Speaker 2: worked out yet. That's like the chat GPT cadence. And
- 43:36Speaker 2: I've noticed some people, like if you look at their
- 43:39Speaker 2: tweets from like three months ago compared to now, it's
- 43:41Speaker 2: a completely different person. And, but I don't see anybody
- 43:46Speaker 2: calling them out and I don't want to be the
- 43:47Speaker 2: one to do it, but I definitely think it's a,
- 43:50Speaker 2: how do you, how do you use something that is
- 43:52Speaker 2: all about, let me put my opinions out there. but
- 43:55Speaker 2: you need to have a computer generate what you think.
- 43:57Speaker 1: What low self-confidence, right?
- 44:00Speaker 2: I think it is.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Cause that's the point for me too. I mean, and
- 44:04Speaker 1: you know, I can neither relate nor empathize with low self-confidence.
- 44:09Speaker 1: I just don't. I don't. Somebody else got to help
- 44:12Speaker 1: make you feel better about that. I was trying to
- 44:13Speaker 1: talk to somebody once about having more self-confidence about themselves.
- 44:17Speaker 1: And then in the end, I was like, damn, no,
- 44:18Speaker 1: you was right. You were actually the one who was correct.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Here I am over here giving you too much credit, right?
- 44:24Speaker 1: Like this was really your fault. But no, we should... Wow.
- 44:28Speaker 1: I just had no idea anybody would engage in such dork.
- 44:31Speaker 2: I'll send you some and you can stay on the lookout.
- 44:33Speaker 2: And if you want to bring back your old account
- 44:37Speaker 2: where you just like crap on people.
- 44:38Speaker 1: I just might. I don't work at ESPN anymore. I
- 44:41Speaker 1: could probably do this. And I want to throw this
- 44:44Speaker 1: out there also about like the AI generated scripts. You know,
- 44:46Speaker 1: I watch a lot of travel videos. I watch them
- 44:50Speaker 1: for travel and I watch them when, you know what
- 44:52Speaker 1: I'm saying? So that is great. They're beautiful and visual.
- 44:56Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Like, you know, it does,
- 44:58Speaker 1: it does the thing. So anyway. There's a lot of
- 45:01Speaker 1: AI generated scripts with the AI generated voice. And I
- 45:05Speaker 1: noticed it because I was watching the video. I forgot
- 45:07Speaker 1: about what the place was. And the quote unquote woman
- 45:11Speaker 1: was talking about being the protagonist in your own vacation.
- 45:15Speaker 1: And there's no way anybody who actually talks is referring
- 45:17Speaker 1: to somebody as being a protagonist in their vacation.
- 45:21Speaker 2: And I just think it's important because like, okay, since
- 45:27Speaker 2: my son is one, I talk to my wife about
- 45:29Speaker 2: this all the time that like he is going to
- 45:31Speaker 2: enter a world where people don't have original thought and it's,
- 45:35Speaker 2: it's almost, it's so easy to create, but everyone's going
- 45:40Speaker 2: to be creating the same thing that like we have
- 45:42Speaker 2: to treat it like our son has an opportunity to
- 45:45Speaker 2: differentiate himself by being very original. Like I think being
- 45:50Speaker 2: super authentic and original is going to be a huge advantage. Um,
- 45:54Speaker 2: but it's going to be hard cause it's at one click,
- 45:57Speaker 2: you can get a five page paper written. That was
- 45:59Speaker 2: never a thing. Dude, we were using the Dewey decimal system, right?
- 46:02Speaker 2: Like we were putting together bibliographies. Like you had to,
- 46:05Speaker 2: you had to really write, um, one last on this.
- 46:08Speaker 2: It is question number 39. With thousands of hours of
- 46:11Speaker 2: Stephen A. Smith footage online, how far are we away
- 46:15Speaker 2: from AI being able to convincingly replicate him?
- 46:19Speaker 1: Oh, brother, Saturday Night Live didn't do the worst job
- 46:23Speaker 1: of it with Jay Pharoah.
- 46:25Speaker 2: But we're reaching a point now where I feel like
- 46:28Speaker 2: you could probably type in Oklahoma City beats Indy. Here's
- 46:32Speaker 2: the stats and all that. Give me five possibilities that
- 46:35Speaker 2: Stephen A. Smith can say, and I think one of
- 46:37Speaker 2: them is.
- 46:37Speaker 1: Going to hit. Ryan says Stephen A.I. Smith. Somebody is
- 46:41Speaker 1: going to do this and they're not going to pay us.
- 46:43Speaker 1: They're not going to pay us.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Because, dude, there's so much footage of him that all
- 46:47Speaker 2: of his mannerisms, his face, his sounds, his intonation. Like,
- 46:52Speaker 2: I think the people that are on camera the most
- 46:54Speaker 2: are at the biggest possibility of being replicated.
- 46:56Speaker 1: Well, I will tell you this. There are people. I
- 47:00Speaker 1: know one of them. I will not tell you who
- 47:02Speaker 1: it is. But there are people who are suing the
- 47:05Speaker 1: AI bots. behind the idea of like, I checked this
- 47:10Speaker 1: once for myself and somebody could probably, you could do
- 47:12Speaker 1: it for you, I'm sure. But you can go into
- 47:13Speaker 1: Chad GPT and it's like, give me a take on
- 47:17Speaker 1: this in the style of Bomani Jones and it'll do it.
- 47:20Speaker 1: And I have to tell you, I did not feel honored.
- 47:23Speaker 1: I felt like Chad GPT really doesn't know who I
- 47:27Speaker 1: am or what I'm about by the time I got
- 47:29Speaker 1: to the end of it. But people can do it.
- 47:31Speaker 1: So there are people who are suing these companies because
- 47:33Speaker 1: they're like, yo, you're allowing people to plagiarize me. which,
- 47:37Speaker 1: by the way, is absolutely 100% correct in what they're
- 47:41Speaker 1: telling you. But with Stephen A., oh, yeah, absolutely going
- 47:44Speaker 1: to be able to pull this off, especially as he
- 47:47Speaker 1: has dedicated himself to being out there, unlike any person
- 47:51Speaker 1: I can remember, like ever. All right.
- 47:54Speaker 2: I just asked ChatGPT for Bomani Jones' thoughts on ChatGPT.
- 47:59Speaker 2: Here are three possible quotes it generated. Are you okay
- 48:02Speaker 2: with this? Does it make you feel uncomfortable?
- 48:03Speaker 1: Let's do this.
- 48:04Speaker 2: Look, ChatGPT is basically Wikipedia with charisma. It'll give you
- 48:08Speaker 2: an answer before you finish the question, but you better
- 48:10Speaker 2: double check it like a cab driver in a new city.
- 48:13Speaker 1: Yo, that's perk. That's not me.
- 48:17Speaker 2: I'm impressed and terrified at the same time. Machines can
- 48:20Speaker 2: spit out hot takes on command, but can they crack
- 48:22Speaker 2: a joke that lands after a bad call in game six?
- 48:25Speaker 2: That's the real Turing test.
- 48:28Speaker 1: Yeah, one more.
- 48:29Speaker 2: If all you do is copy and paste an AI script,
- 48:31Speaker 2: you're not adding seasoning to the gumbo. You're just reheating leftovers.
- 48:35Speaker 2: The culture moves forward when someone stirs the pot, not
- 48:38Speaker 2: when they press send.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Now you see what I was saying? You see what
- 48:42Speaker 1: I'm saying? That's kind of.
- 48:43Speaker 2: What you just said. But it added a gumbo reference.
- 48:48Speaker 1: They were like, what if we make it just a
- 48:51Speaker 1: tiny bit racist? Yeah, just to touch. In fact, I'm
- 48:57Speaker 1: now curious how many other black people's names that you
- 49:00Speaker 1: could put in there and they would spit it right
- 49:02Speaker 1: back out and say the same thing. You know, like, wow. Wow. Wow.
- 49:13Speaker 2: Hold on. I'm going to get something really quick, including race,
- 49:19Speaker 2: including race. and culture. I wanted to ask it, what
- 49:23Speaker 2: percentages did you do for the style, like when you
- 49:27Speaker 2: generated that? So a rough percentage breakdown for Bomani Jones
- 49:33Speaker 2: input sources is, It's saying that communication and style took 40%,
- 49:38Speaker 2: saying you're conversational but sharp, wry humor layered structure, you
- 49:42Speaker 2: prefer analogies and extended metaphors. 25%, it took a cultural context.
- 49:49Speaker 2: Phrases like, quote, seasoning the gumbo reflects cultural references rooted
- 49:53Speaker 2: in black southern vernacular and tradition. Man, this is insane.
- 49:59Speaker 1: Number one was correct. Number two was where they started
- 50:01Speaker 1: going a little walkie.
- 50:03Speaker 2: Yeah, they were like, we looked at where he was
- 50:05Speaker 2: from and we gave those things. Oh, man.
- 50:09Speaker 1: All right.
- 50:11Speaker 2: Ask a number.
- 50:11Speaker 1: Okay, okay, okay. Shout out to Shea Gilders Alexander. He
- 50:17Speaker 1: wearing number two, right? Let's go with number two.
- 50:20Speaker 2: Number two. We just had a team built through the
- 50:24Speaker 2: draft by an OCD but incredibly effective GM led by
- 50:28Speaker 2: a 26-year-old that takes a lot of grief about their
- 50:30Speaker 2: style of play, surrounded by supreme death and poised to
- 50:34Speaker 2: compete for championships for years to come. I'm not talking
- 50:37Speaker 2: about the Oklahoma City Thunder. I'm talking about the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 50:41Speaker 2: Sam Presti and Howie Roseman. Are we in the golden
- 50:45Speaker 2: era of the nerd GM?
- 50:48Speaker 1: So what I find interesting about the comparison... between the
- 50:52Speaker 1: two of them is I think that Presti is a
- 50:59Speaker 1: pretty good, like get in the weeds and get them right.
- 51:02Speaker 1: So it did not take anything to say Kevin Durant
- 51:05Speaker 1: at number two. in that draft. It took something to
- 51:08Speaker 1: decide to take Harden at three. It took something to
- 51:10Speaker 1: take Westbrook, I think it was at four or five
- 51:12Speaker 1: or whatever it was.
- 51:14Speaker 2: Right, we don't congratulate him for taking Chet at two,
- 51:16Speaker 2: but in the same draft, he took J-Dub at 13.
- 51:19Speaker 1: Correct, right? He gets that. Howie Roseman is like, wow,
- 51:24Speaker 1: you're so big and fast. Why don't you come play
- 51:28Speaker 1: for us, you big, fast person? Physical outliers. And then
- 51:33Speaker 1: add Jalen Hurts.
- 51:35Speaker 2: Cooper Dejean and his drafts, like he got the center
- 51:39Speaker 2: to replace Jason Kelsey and they haven't missed a beat there.
- 51:43Speaker 2: I mean, so you're saying that you're not as impressed
- 51:45Speaker 2: by how he arose.
- 51:46Speaker 1: No, I'm saying no, no. I'm saying they do it
- 51:47Speaker 1: in different ways. Right. I appreciate not overcomplicating this. Like, hey, guys,
- 51:53Speaker 1: I hear they got a lot of really good stuff
- 51:55Speaker 1: at this store called Georgia. Why don't we go shop
- 51:59Speaker 1: at Georgia? Like there's no need to make this more
- 52:02Speaker 1: difficult than it necessarily has to be.
- 52:03Speaker 2: J-Dub went to Santa Clara. Right, right.
- 52:05Speaker 1: He's out here getting physical outliers. We have a team
- 52:09Speaker 1: full of freaks. That is, we'll work the rest out later,
- 52:13Speaker 1: but we got a team full of freaks. And so
- 52:15Speaker 1: that's where Howie on one level is a jerk. I mean,
- 52:18Speaker 1: not a jerk, a nerd. But on the other level
- 52:20Speaker 1: is Al Davis. Like these are all a bunch of
- 52:22Speaker 1: guys that Al Davis would take.
- 52:23Speaker 2: I will say though that Having covered the NBA for
- 52:28Speaker 2: so long, everybody used to marvel at the fact that
- 52:31Speaker 2: Sam Pressy was given so much power and time that
- 52:36Speaker 2: there were so many years when you're playing Poku at center.
- 52:39Speaker 2: Like these guys were winning 12 games, 15 games. And
- 52:43Speaker 2: they were really playing the young guys. And the comments
- 52:46Speaker 2: around the league were, man, what other GM would be
- 52:48Speaker 2: allowed this kind of runway? And I think they've both
- 52:52Speaker 2: been given runway and they both have owners that go,
- 52:55Speaker 2: whatever you want to do, I'm going to make it happen.
- 52:58Speaker 2: I just, look, we live in New York. I'm watching
- 53:00Speaker 2: what happens with the Knicks. And it's one of these
- 53:03Speaker 2: is not working, a meddling owner that doesn't want to
- 53:06Speaker 2: deal with it. And the other one giving your really
- 53:08Speaker 2: smart GM advice. ground to work with does i.
- 53:11Speaker 1: Think the owner in oklahoma city has a self-awareness about
- 53:18Speaker 1: who and what they are and what they have to
- 53:20Speaker 1: be to win right um i also think what seems
- 53:24Speaker 1: very clear is that sam prestey can articulate the plan
- 53:29Speaker 1: and if you can articulate the plan You'll go from there.
- 53:32Speaker 1: But it's like, look, we're not going to be able
- 53:34Speaker 1: to get free agents. Right. This isn't going to be
- 53:36Speaker 1: that kind of place. What we're going to have to
- 53:38Speaker 1: do is we're going to have to get young guys
- 53:40Speaker 1: who like to be around each other. And then when
- 53:42Speaker 1: it's time to get a veteran, I need to have
- 53:44Speaker 1: an operation so competent. That when those guys get here,
- 53:48Speaker 1: they're like, no, I only got to be here for
- 53:50Speaker 1: six months out the year anyway. Okay, that's fine. I
- 53:53Speaker 1: can do that. And so he was the Wunderkent when
- 53:55Speaker 1: he got the job. I want to say he was
- 53:56Speaker 1: in his 20s when he got it. He nailed Durant,
- 54:00Speaker 1: Jeff Green, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Serge Ibaka in successive
- 54:05Speaker 1: first round picks. Um, yeah. So, but even the idea
- 54:09Speaker 1: that he got so much time, I don't think that
- 54:11Speaker 1: really holds. So 2020, after they traded Chris Paul and
- 54:15Speaker 1: they got the picks and stuff that they got from him,
- 54:17Speaker 1: they were really only down for two years. Then after that,
- 54:20Speaker 1: they went 40 and 42. And then it's been these
- 54:22Speaker 1: last two years.
- 54:23Speaker 2: Dude, the Eagles fired Doug Peterson two years after winning
- 54:26Speaker 2: the Super Bowl.
- 54:27Speaker 1: Fair, fair, fair.
- 54:29Speaker 2: Like, in sports, like, I vividly remember Stephen A. Smith
- 54:32Speaker 2: going on TV and being like, when are we going
- 54:34Speaker 2: to start questioning Sam Preston?
- 54:35Speaker 1: I remember him saying that, and I was like, stop it. Well,
- 54:38Speaker 1: when's he going to get a championship? Stop it.
- 54:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's like he has any pull. But a
- 54:44Speaker 2: lot of teams and a lot of fan bases— don't
- 54:47Speaker 2: even allow one down year or two down years. Well,
- 54:51Speaker 2: you know, if the chiefs had a down year this year,
- 54:53Speaker 2: they're going to start asking, you know, do they need,
- 54:56Speaker 2: what's his Andy Reed, you know, moving on and blah, blah, blah. Like,
- 54:59Speaker 2: like we just don't have patience. So I thought the
- 55:01Speaker 2: patients that they showed, and then you get to go
- 55:03Speaker 2: to your owner and go, I know I need to
- 55:05Speaker 2: pay 85 million for Isaiah Hartenstein.
- 55:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 55:10Speaker 2: And they're like, really? And they're like, you need to
- 55:11Speaker 2: trust me, man.
- 55:12Speaker 1: I think there's one other thing. I think there's one
- 55:14Speaker 1: other thing. the self-awareness that I spoke to, they happy
- 55:21Speaker 1: they got a team. True. Like, I don't think they
- 55:26Speaker 1: get enough credit for the game they ran to get
- 55:29Speaker 1: that team, by the way. I know the people in
- 55:30Speaker 1: Seattle don't like it, but the idea that they got
- 55:33Speaker 1: a taste of that team for those two years and
- 55:34Speaker 1: were like, all right, cool. So David Stern says he
- 55:37Speaker 1: want to show them who's boss and we're going to
- 55:40Speaker 1: get a team. And they pulled it off and it
- 55:42Speaker 1: made the team good. I mean, they were a television
- 55:45Speaker 1: draw for much of a decade-long period.
- 55:49Speaker 2: You just made me think of an incredible concept for
- 55:51Speaker 2: the NBA. Instead of the NBA saying, Maybe we'll put
- 55:55Speaker 2: a franchise in Seattle. Maybe we'll put one in Vegas,
- 55:58Speaker 2: Mexico city, Paris, London. What if it's a competition where
- 56:03Speaker 2: it's like, it's like, let's see how good of a
- 56:06Speaker 2: fan base you would be. You know, like we're new
- 56:09Speaker 2: or like, like Oklahoma city got that tryout and they're like, man,
- 56:13Speaker 2: the crowd's packed every game. And it's like a college atmosphere.
- 56:17Speaker 2: Let's see if you got, let's see what you got.
- 56:20Speaker 2: I would love.
- 56:21Speaker 1: Let me tell you, my mom was from Oklahoma City.
- 56:22Speaker 1: I cannot begin to tell you how happy she is
- 56:24Speaker 1: about that championship. She has not lived in Oklahoma City
- 56:28Speaker 1: since the year of our Lord, 1960. Really? Yeah, and
- 56:33Speaker 1: it's like it just happened.
- 56:35Speaker 2: Wow, that's amazing.
- 56:36Speaker 1: Yes.
- 56:37Speaker 2: All right. Let's hear another.
- 56:39Speaker 1: We got one more, one more. We up there. We
- 56:41Speaker 1: pushing the time. What you got? One more, one more.
- 56:44Speaker 1: I'm going to say, as I said, I'm 44 years old.
- 56:49Speaker 1: Let's go with the faux faux.
- 56:51Speaker 2: Okay. If we were to do an WNBA-NBA jam combo,
- 56:59Speaker 2: you would have teams like Anthony Edwards and Nafisia Collier.
- 57:02Speaker 2: You'd have teams like Jalen Brunson and Brianna Stewart. But
- 57:05Speaker 2: how many jerseys would the white lightning combination of Caitlin
- 57:09Speaker 2: Clark and TJ McConnell sell? And that team name would
- 57:13Speaker 2: be the Midwest Fundamental.
- 57:17Speaker 1: TJ McConnell, he was this close. This close to that
- 57:20Speaker 1: jersey retirement. Your guy, TJ McConnell, the only true process survivor.
- 57:25Speaker 1: The only guy that had no business in the NBA
- 57:28Speaker 1: and then figured out a way to make it happen.
- 57:30Speaker 1: He turned the ball over seven times in game seven,
- 57:32Speaker 1: by the way. Just want to throw that out there
- 57:33Speaker 1: for people who weren't aware. Don't talk about that. Wow.
- 57:36Speaker 1: They're going to sell a lot of jerseys that are
- 57:38Speaker 1: going to fit you the exact right size.
- 57:42Speaker 2: Oh, great. Got to tuck them in.
- 57:44Speaker 1: Yes, it's going to be those. I mean, everybody in
- 57:46Speaker 1: the state of Indiana will have one.
- 57:49Speaker 2: Everybody. Follow-up questions. I've thought about places I'd love to
- 57:53Speaker 2: see Kaitlin Clark play basketball. Number one, I think, is Rucker.
- 57:59Speaker 2: I always go back to the Kevin Durant clip where
- 58:02Speaker 2: he's hitting all the threes. I just think there's something
- 58:05Speaker 2: beautiful about Caitlin Clark walking into the rocker and then
- 58:08Speaker 2: like turning everyone into a fan by the end of it.
- 58:11Speaker 1: Well, I mean, you're not saying what I'm about to say.
- 58:18Speaker 1: I'm going to say it. I just want to be
- 58:20Speaker 1: very clear. It's me, not you. They just looking for
- 58:23Speaker 1: a reason to fall in love with a white girl
- 58:25Speaker 1: on a regular basis, let alone one that could hoop.
- 58:30Speaker 1: It don't take much for the white girl to win
- 58:32Speaker 1: the brothers over. It does not take very much. She
- 58:35Speaker 1: would not be going in there fighting against my skepticism.
- 58:37Speaker 1: It would be very, very welcoming. My people, generally speaking,
- 58:40Speaker 1: we are welcoming. White people just want to be nice
- 58:43Speaker 1: to us a little bit. But she come out there,
- 58:45Speaker 1: I'm just telling you, put a lot of them factors together, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 58:49Speaker 1: She'll be the queen of uptown. Queen.
- 58:52Speaker 2: I didn't even think about that. My second one was
- 58:55Speaker 2: San Quentin. I would love to see.
- 58:58Speaker 2: Caitlyn in like a, in like a maximum security prison,
- 59:01Speaker 2: but like, again, wins everybody over.
- 59:04Speaker 1: Yo, like that's her, like giving back. You know what
- 59:07Speaker 1: I'm saying? Like she going in there hooping with the
- 59:09Speaker 1: hooping with the inmates we.
- 59:10Speaker 2: I think the warriors played in the prison like the
- 59:12Speaker 2: last five.
- 59:13Speaker 1: Years yo i would i would i would pay money to.
- 59:16Speaker 2: Watch caitlin's doing step back.
- 59:18Speaker 1: Yes yes but i tell you this though that whole
- 59:20Speaker 1: thing would she be like pushing people and walking away
- 59:22Speaker 1: don't do that there Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 59:24Speaker 2: Can't do that.
- 59:24Speaker 1: No, no, no, no. You got to stand on your two.
- 59:26Speaker 1: You might get some respect like really doing it, but
- 59:28Speaker 1: being passive aggressive is not something that they have a
- 59:30Speaker 1: lot of respect for behind bars.
- 59:32Speaker 2: All right, let me get this in. This was number 21.
- 59:34Speaker 2: I was hoping you were going to pick it. You didn't.
- 59:37Speaker 2: Go out with one. Have lunch with your parents. Smoke
- 59:40Speaker 2: with one. Aaron Rodgers, Mayor Eric Adams, Stephen A. Smith.
- 59:46Speaker 1: Okay, so it's go out with one.
- 59:47Speaker 2: Go out, drink it, go out. Well, partying with one
- 59:50Speaker 2: because you don't drink. Have lunch with your parents and
- 59:53Speaker 2: then a cypher, a smoke sesh.
- 59:55Speaker 1: Okay. I'm not. I would have to bring Aaron Rodgers
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: around my parents. Wow. I know too much about how
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: my parents, my father in particular feels about Eric Adams,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: the archetype and Stephen A. Smith, the broadcast personality that
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: I cannot do. Um, and so then we got knocked out.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: So you're going to be sitting there and you're, and
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: he's gonna be like, so then when I did Iowa.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I think they can,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: I think they can make that work. I brought weird
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: white boys over to the house before. I ain't brought
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: no whole lot of brothers over like Stephen A. Smith
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: or Eric Adams. Um, So you're smoking with one and
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: you're going out with one, Eric Adams and Stephen A. Okay,
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: I'm definitely going out with Eric Adams. I bet that's fun.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: For all my criticisms of Eric Adams, he knows the
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: spots and the spots. This man just said the other day,
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: because as we're recording this on Tuesday, so it's election
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: day for the primary in New York City. Eric Adams
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: did something where he said, how he was the first
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: mayor to party off Dykeman. who says that like who
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: holds that he was on the breakfast club that one
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: day they gonna say that ball hit a brother with
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: the earring was doing it who says these things about
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: being the mayor what are you talking about so yeah
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: i would go kick it with did i just oh
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: no so you're you're smoking with steven no no no
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: no i'm going out with steven a i'm smoking with
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: eric adams.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: I don't why don't you want to smoke with steven
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: because i don't.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: Think steven a wants to smoke with us.
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: Well, he has to. It's part of the rules.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: Okay, so that would mean it is.
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: Yeah, how would that session go?
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: It's absolutely on the board that it would be Stephen
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: A's first time getting high, or at the very least
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: getting high as he would kicking it with me. And
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: I don't want to I'm not trying to I don't
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: need to be a pioneer in that regard. I'll go
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: out with Stephen A. Smith. Yes, that would that would
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: that would that would be.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: Could you imagine like it is his first time and
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: then someone's like, let me fire up a door dash.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: What is Stephen A. getting the munchies for?
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: Oh, I know exactly what he get the munchies for.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Everybody knows what he get the munchies for is the
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: thing that it's been reported many, many years ago. He
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: is about those cheesy poofs, man. What? You know the
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: whole cheesy poof thing with Stephen A. You can Google that.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: I'm doing it now. Somebody saw him at a game
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: eating the cheesy poofs. They're like, oh, it's Stephen A
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: with cheesy poofs. Stephen A will walk around the Seaport
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: studio with a styrofoam bowl full of cheesy poofs. He
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: clearly keeps a bag of them in his office or
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: somebody re-ups them.
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: The balls?
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: Yeah, like the generic Cheetos.
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: Cheesy poofs. Not cheesy poofs, that's from South Park.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but I'm saying, yeah, no, but like Cheetos,
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: but not Cheetos.
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: Cheese doodles.
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: There we go.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: He loves cheese doodles?
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: Can you imagine? And then Stephen A grabs the J
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: and it's like all over his fingers.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: Yeah, he don't know the rules. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: He don't know the rules.
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: A just-smoked Stephen A crushing a tub of cheese doodles
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: is like the funniest thing.
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: This actually reminds me, by the way, I had a
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: Hall of Fame session at the Super Bowl one year
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: that I may have told you about. But either way,
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: somebody with way more money than I made the declaration like, hey,
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: everybody got their own, right? He was not here for
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: the communal spirit of it all. If you ain't got
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: no weed, take your broke ass home. That is what
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: that Hall of Famer said.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: To be honest, when you were talking about moving your
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: couch in the very beginning of this, moving your own
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: couch is the guy that goes, let's just pass it.
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: And then the guy that pays to get his couch
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: moved goes, no, no, no. You're good.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: You're good. Ladies and gentlemen, this is Lefkoe, comma, Adam.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: That's the middle ground. Lefkoe, Addo. What are you doing
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: this summer? Because basketball is over. Tennis is over. French
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: Open is over. Yep.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: I'm definitely going to go to the U.S. Open now
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: that I'm a tennis guy.
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: We got to go. I guess I got to find
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: somebody to roll with me, but we got to talk.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: I'll be there for sure. We got to get all
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: our agencies and the likes in line so we can
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: go hang out.
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: And then I'm getting ready for baseball. I'm going to
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: be doing baseball with TNT, which I'm excited about.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: And.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: A very corny kind of answer, I'm just being a dad.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: You know, dude, when you travel a lot, you have
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: these incredible thoughts. You're like, man, I just want to
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: take him to gym class. And then after an hour,
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: you're like, this is the hardest thing I've ever done
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: in my entire life. Just hanging out with Big P,
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: pushing P.
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I got to go. Now that he's mobile and,
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: you know. He's talking. That's what I'm saying. I got
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: to come hang out with the little homie. I only
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: got to kick it with him a little bit.
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: Well, Monty, the one thing that I think you would
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: love about having a kid, because I think you'll have
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: a smart kid, is stunting on other parents with your
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: kid's intelligence. And so Prince, my wife, since the age
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: of three, has been reading like neurology books and stuff.
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: So he can tell you the heart has four chambers.
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: The strongest is the left ventricle. The biggest part of
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: the brain is the cerebrum. And he can spell his
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: name and all this stuff. And he's like one. And
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: so we'll be at the playground and there'll be times
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: where I'll feel like someone's being rude. Like they're not
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: sharing the swing or they're not controlling their kid. And
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: I go... Prince, what creates protein in the cell? And
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: he's like, ribosomes. And they're like, what the fuck? And
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: I'm like, eat.
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: It, mom, eat it. This is pretty amazing, though, I
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: have to say.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: Oh, well, it's all credit to my wife, because what
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: I've taught him is that when he dunks the ball,
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: he says, boom, shakalaka. And that after you spell eagles,
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: you say go birds. So we've taught them very different things.
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: OK, I need to ask Nick what exactly he taught Deanna,
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: because my favorite thing when Nick and Deanna is Deanna
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: walking in the room, although Deanna is certainly not a
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: child anymore, but walking in and saying, Daddy, who do
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: we want to win today? which I looked at him
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: and said, yo, you got to tighten this up, man.
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: You can't. It can't be this, homie.
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: That is a sign right there.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: It can't be this. Right, but check out about Turner
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: Sports covering baseball and the likes. My brother, I appreciate you.
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: I will talk to you soon.
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: Always a pleasure, man. Thank you.
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: All right, man. And ladies and gentlemen, thanks so much
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: for joining us here on The Right Time. We do
