- 0:00Happy birthday, Matt. And that's how I'm opening. Just nice and simple. It's
- 0:04Matt's birthday, sort of. I mean, here it was Matt's birthday two days ago.
- 0:09Yes. And there it was Matt's birthday yesterday. Yes. So, but I think in
- 0:14England maybe it's still my birthday. Still be a birthday. So, and I do have
- 0:19family in all of those regions. So, cuz technically your birthday, depending
- 0:22where you are, does last like 48 hours. I get messages for quite a long time.
- 0:26It's nice. I wonder if anyone's tried to elongate their birthday. I bet one of
- 0:30the Kardashians has done it, you know. Oh, it's your birthday. Sorry. No,
- 0:37you could do that. Just chase it around the world. Your birthday. Yep. be quite
- 0:42boring to play too. Like what would I have to do to get a longer life than I
- 0:49would have if I stayed in one place, you know, just chase time zones and, you
- 0:54know, cross the equator but not come back the other way.
- 0:59I don't think it works that way. Yeah, because then I'd have like the 14th a second time.
- 1:05But Brian Johnson's on to this. Have you seen him? That guy that's trying to live
- 1:08forever. Oh, that guy. The guy. Doesn't he like inject himself with his son's
- 1:13semen or something? No, his son's blood. Not much better. I mean, Dan could be.
- 1:19Who knows? At this point, he does all sorts of weird [ __ ] Welcome to Multiple
- 1:25Nerdgasm with your hosts, Matt, Luke,
- 1:30and Dan. Multiple Nerdgasm, your guide to all
- 1:36things nerdy.
- 1:42injects drinks, you know. Yeah.
- 1:48Yeah. I bet he'd be on it. Luke, you've been uh injected with stuff, have you
- 1:52not? Yes, just recently. How are you? I'm a little bit out of it still. So,
- 1:56was that an injection? They finally convinced you that you do need to do
- 2:00that or So, in the past, I have been going ketamine treatments. So, you know,
- 2:04horse tranquilizers. Well, that doesn't work anymore. Matthew Perry
- 2:07tranquilizers. Yes. Have they tried the ivormectton cuz that cures everything, I
- 2:11think. Not quite. So, they took me in and I thought I was just going to they
- 2:15were going to I wasn't quite sure what they're doing. They're going to
- 2:17electrocute nerves. And I went, "Yeah, whatever." I get there.
- 2:23I get there and they go, "Okay, we're going to put you under now." And so, I
- 2:27was thinking like just a local, no general anesthetic, but not quite. Mate,
- 2:31what I had to do was they put me to twilight state. So, I was under cuz I
- 2:36still had to respond. Oh, cuz they had X-ray machines and had
- 2:41needles in my leg finding the nerves and I had to respond to tell them if I could
- 2:45feel the tingling and then they would electrocute me. But the thing is, I
- 2:49don't remember any of that. Wow. I remember laying there going,
- 2:54"Okay, we're going to inject you now." And then the next thing going, "Luke,
- 2:57you did." They're waking me up going, "Look, you did fantastic." And I went,
- 3:00"What? You passed the test. I passed the test." So now I'm in a lot of pain. Oh
- 3:07no. Which is an expected side effect after it. But but you still have two
- 3:12legs. Still have two legs at the moment cuz I questioned you had sent a photo of
- 3:17of your legs. Yes. And then and then said, "All right, see you later." And
- 3:21for just for a moment I was like, "Wait a minute. Is this it?"
- 3:27I'd give you a bit more notice than that. That's what I thought. But I was
- 3:30But then that's just like if I'm picking you up from the hospital, which is what
- 3:34we had planned to do. Yes. and you're only going to have one leg. I need to
- 3:38know ahead of time for logistics and
- 3:41also just so that I don't go, "Oh, no, that's not my friend. My friend has
- 3:47two legs." Yeah, there'll be more notice and for some when I for that I think I'm
- 3:52in hospital for 3 weeks if I have that happen. I was going to say that makes
- 3:55more sense. Yes. Then a day. Pick me up the day of. But yeah, so now I just got to deal
- 4:01with the pain for a little bit and everything got to wear off and then
- 4:03we'll see what happens. Oh, cool. Yeah, but they electrocuted
- 4:08the ends of the nerves to try and stop them firing off. Okay. Evidently, if it
- 4:14works, it can last from 3 to 12 months. That's good, right? Yeah.
- 4:203 to I mean 12 months is good if you get
- 4:2212 months is good. 3 months.
- 4:28We'll see. Yeah. Uh you may they wouldn't let me leave
- 4:34hospital everything all right my professor was my professor
- 4:39before he did the surgery he's like oh yeah your friend's coming to get you
- 4:42yeah that'll be fine he knows me yep whatever the nurses were no we've booked
- 4:47you a room you're going to stay here tonight and this is fine professor says
- 4:51it's fine it's good I no they kept me they want to look after me one night
- 4:57and did they did they look after No they kept me awake all like taking my blood
- 5:02pressure. Oh, they did that thing, right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. All I want to
- 5:05do is sleep. Just let me sleep.
- 5:10Um, you mentioned a miracle drug that um can cure anything. And that's that's the
- 5:16premise of a show I mentioned recently, Common Side effects, which is very good.
- 5:19I've just finished season one um animated show.
- 5:24Um there's two characters that are excellent. They're two cops and I think
- 5:30they would be great to cosplay as um
- 5:34right for me and Luke. Mhm. But one of us does have to be in blackface.
- 5:40But thankfully thankfully it's the taller of the two and you don't have a problem
- 5:45with it, right? But answer me this, Luke. Scroll down to cell 66 or 67. You
- 5:52can have a look at these two these two cops. Mhm. I'm
- 5:58thinking giant paperier-mâché heads of these characters faces. See, I
- 6:04have no idea who these people are. It's very fun. They're so funny. Hey, visitor.
- 6:11I say we just stick with the original idea. Zap Rican and K. That That is a
- 6:16pretty good idea. Yeah. A lot of body paint necessary for me though, that one. Yep.
- 6:21But it's either one of us, one of us colors color colors their whole body. So
- 6:25I'm voting for Yeah. Futurama. Um,
- 6:30yeah. There's a great character introduction in this show of this
- 6:34characters. It's just the one cop sitting in the car and he's looking
- 6:38through the wind screen and the other cop is in line for a hot dog for like
- 6:42getting their both their lunch and bring it back. And um he grabs the radio, just
- 6:48holds it on and then just turns up the radio and there's this really funky song
- 6:53on and you just see the other cop standing in line for the for the hot
- 6:57dog. Just start going and just dancing like knowing that cuz it's coming
- 7:01through the radio. There's just such a great partners like, "Oh, here's your
- 7:06favorite song. It's on right now for you." And Yeah. And then she just dances
- 7:11in the in the queue even though everyone can see. Yeah. Yeah, it was good. Giant
- 7:18papermâché heads. That's my plan. Do you know how to make papier-mâché heads?
- 7:24Uh, you made a paperier-mâché planet. Would you take the time to make giant paperier-mâché
- 7:30heads? Do I have the time? That's that's a whole other question. Yeah. Yes. So,
- 7:36it's great to come up with the ideas, having the time to do them. M that's why
- 7:41with cosplay I reckon you you pay someone to make it for you. Yeah. Yeah.
- 7:46Yeah. Yeah. I also don't have a lot of money. I don't have time and I don't
- 7:49have money. Um that's always you know we used to say you know when we were in our
- 7:5320s we were like oh we used to have no time or no money and heaps of time and
- 7:56now we've got heaps of money and and now it's like why I don't have any of that.
- 8:01Yeah but nothing time. No.
- 8:05Hi. Welcome back. Sorry about that.
- 8:10We're doing it slightly later and uh she's awake. Yes. Yeah. Cuz she usually
- 8:15wakes up right at the tail end, but now she's waking up right at the start. Yeah, exactly.
- 8:21All good. Excellent. A little louder than you were before. Are you sitting
- 8:25somewhere different? Closer. Yeah. No, I don't think so.
- 8:31Is that better? Maybe. Maybe you're just using your dad voice. All right, calm down.
- 8:36Maybe. Right. I know she's awake now, so it's like I'm not I don't have to be
- 8:38quiet. I can turn myself down. No, no, no, no, no. Don't Don't be hiding
- 8:43yourself. You do you. You do you, boo. All right. All right. Sorry. What did I
- 8:47miss? Anything?
- 8:49Uh Luke refuses to do blackface with me.
- 8:57Yeah. So, we're going to have to go back to our original plan of Rick and Morty.
- 9:01And there's no Rick and Morty. Yeah, that'd be great. You get to wear the
- 9:05cool costume. I just get to wear a yellow t-shirt and a pair of pants. I
- 9:08don't even know who Rick and Morty are yet. I haven't seen anything. You're
- 9:12turning into one of these fans that scares me. You know, it's funny. My
- 9:16mother-in-law was here today and um she does our she folds our laundry sometimes
- 9:21if she's just pottering around and decides we haven't done it quick enough.
- 9:25Yeah. And she found my my pickle Rick socks. Mhm. And she comes into my room. She's
- 9:30like, "These aren't yours." And I'm like, "No, they they are mine." She's
- 9:34like, Yeah, this isn't the kind of sock you wear. I'm like, no, I know, but I
- 9:40boy, they're my one crazy sock. She's like, I don't I don't like this. I don't
- 9:44approve of this. Yeah, she tells me when she doesn't approve.
- 9:50Yeah, when I need a haircut. Yeah. When I was
- 9:55young, my nan came to visit from England and she she was like, "Oh, you know,
- 9:58I'll do the laundry, all this kind of stuff." And she ironed everything and
- 10:02she ironed like creases into the into
- 10:05our jeans like the military trousers. Exactly. Right. And I remember going to
- 10:12get my jeans and being like [ __ ] Cuz that also would have taken time and
- 10:19effort. Yeah. Yeah. They are good at iring though, n women of that generation
- 10:25are [ __ ] good at it. Yeah. Now I don't even own an iring board. Yeah,
- 10:30that's a that's a skill women have lost, you know. It's a it's a real shame. It's
- 10:33a real shame. It might be controversial to say that, but uh I did say I did save
- 10:38the picture. Hold on. Just on that topic. Um and we do have some JK Rowling
- 10:43news today. She is a woman. She is a woman. But I did see um you can be sure
- 10:49of that. Yeah, just made that abundantly clear. Somebody named Stella Creasy. And I I
- 10:56honestly I don't know who that is, but I'm sure she's a lovely woman. Stella
- 10:59Creasy. Oh, that's what I said when my creased my pants. Stella crazy, man.
- 11:04Whoa. Stella Creasy. That does sound like early 90s slang. It
- 11:10isn't, but it could have been, right? Um, but I just saw this just pop up on
- 11:16my Facebook. JK Rowling is wrong. A woman can have a penis. Now, I don't
- 11:22want to get biological, but can they? Well, I'm not going to answer that. I'm
- 11:27not asking you two to answer it. I'm just saying. Can you reword the question
- 11:30if a biological woman then I think no but that's not what that person is there
- 11:35any other kind. What about what about people who are born with both?
- 11:40True. Not a man. I'm assuming they mean I mean we don't have to do this. I'm
- 11:45assuming that's referring to women. Yeah. But it doesn't say that. Do you
- 11:49know what I mean? Like Yeah, I know. But now they prior established that trans
- 11:54women are women. So when they say women, I think they just mean that. And whether
- 11:57you agree with them or not, I think that's what they mean. I don't disagree.
- 12:00I just I just think it's hilarious that it's just like look at this loser who
- 12:04thinks [ __ ] men have a penis. Yeah.
- 12:10Uh JK Rowling has come out. Um she's coming out blazing. Yeah, she's come
- 12:14out. I imagine that. No, that would still be okay providing that you still
- 12:17believe in the gender binary, right? Sure. Yeah. Yeah. Probably. I don't want
- 12:21to I don't want to see. She She made Dumbledore gay. So, she's got nothing
- 12:25wrong with people being gay. Just as long as you steal your own sex.
- 12:30I think you'll find something else made Dumbledore gay. We'll talk about that in
- 12:33a minute. Oh, okay. I got some other news, but go on. Yeah. Oh, okay. Well,
- 12:38this is pretty quick cuz all she did, she retweeted the poster for the uh
- 12:43National Asexuals Day. Um, which you think, oh, that's nice, she's supporting
- 12:48them. But no, no, no. decided to comment under it. Happy International Fake
- 12:53Oppression Day to anyone who wants complete strangers to know they don't fancy a shag.
- 13:00Right. I mean, how are they hurting anyone? Yeah, who gives a [ __ ] Also, I
- 13:06think I'm I'm as dubious as the next guy about about some of this cultural stuff
- 13:12and and identity politics, but but I know that that's not what asexual means.
- 13:17Asexual doesn't mean you're not horny, right? Sure. But what does it matter? It
- 13:24doesn't hurt anyone. You're right. Even if it did, who cares? I mean, she I
- 13:28guess she's she can have her opinion, but it's just it is very for somebody
- 13:33who's like, I'm just I'm just misunderstood. She's very venomous about
- 13:38these things. And she is now. And I must say, at the start when all she was doing
- 13:43was asking questions, I was 100% on her side cuz I'm like, "Yeah, no one is
- 13:48asking questions." And these are some pretty big changes to language we're
- 13:51making. So, let's ask all the question. Sure. And and if we decide yes, this is
- 13:57all good, then it is all good. And majority rules, that's how language
- 14:00works. But um yeah, she's she's doubled and tripled and quadrupled down now on
- 14:05just on the what I would call hate speech right at this point. Yeah, she's
- 14:09just gone hard in the I mean probably a result of the years
- 14:15now of [ __ ] what's been going on. She's just like that's just her. Does
- 14:20she actually do anything anymore? Doesn't need to. Um, well, she was doing
- 14:25like the the she was involved in the shows and the movies and stuff, but
- 14:29they've kind of either walked her out of the room because of all this stuff or
- 14:34they're just put thrown a sheet over her and she's going to talk about it. She
- 14:39wrote her a book that was outside of that did terribly and then she went back
- 14:42to do some more Harry Potter stuff and now I think she did a bunch of
- 14:46um crime novels under a pseudonym
- 14:51of a but that yeah as a she wrote them as a man like under the pseudonym of a
- 14:57man and that was controversial that make her trans that's because now with
- 15:02everything she's said the books were about a killer who dresses up as a woman
- 15:07to commit murder Uh, and everyone was like, "Oh, this is just a theme with her
- 15:12that she's like I mean, mind you, that's I mean that's that's what she thinks
- 15:16trans people are." No spoilers for Psycho from 1960, but that's the plot of
- 15:20that as well, right? Yeah. It's just like no spoilers, you know, when you
- 15:24combined with all the other stuff she Yeah. Yeah. Silence theme here. That's
- 15:28also the plot of that. Like there's there's a lot going on with that plot.
- 15:32But is she just influenced in her entire life by those films? Like I think it's
- 15:38Yeah, maybe. But I I tend to think Did she really think all of this or did she
- 15:44just make one comment that just got so much attention that she was like, I
- 15:49think I've found my [ __ ] rat hole that I'm just going to follow to the
- 15:53very end now. Die on this hill. Yeah. For the same thing as like I I honest to
- 15:59god don't believe that um [ __ ] Kanye West is a Nazi. I I just do not believe
- 16:06it. I don't believe he is sophisticated enough to be a Nazi, let alone anything
- 16:11else. He doesn't know anything about them. That's what I mean. Right. Yeah.
- 16:14Like the Nazis were very ideological. He is not. No. No. It's just a dramatic
- 16:19thing for him to do. Yeah. Yeah. And I kind of get the feeling that some people
- 16:23like they say something controversial, it gets them the right attention and
- 16:27they just [ __ ] go for it. Well, it seems with Kanye that does seem to what
- 16:31be what happens with him. He'll say controversial, then he everyone will
- 16:34talk about then he'll go away. Everyone will sort of forget about him and he go,
- 16:37hold on, people aren't talking about me. Nazis. Well, it's like he was even like at one
- 16:43point, oh, I've just learned what a Nazi is. Yeah, definitely not one of them.
- 16:46Yeah. But then the more he thought about it, he was like, no, actually I I am
- 16:49one. Like I'm not a card carrying Nazi, but I So funny, right? I do hate the
- 16:54Jews. He's like, I'm going to I'm a Nazi. Do you know what a Nazi is? No.
- 16:58Looked into it. I don't like that. Keep looking into it. Well, maybe I do. Maybe.
- 17:04Maybe I've misjudged. I'll give him a chance. I'll give him a chance. Like,
- 17:06what an what an evolution. Yeah. That's like the time one of my ex-girlfriends
- 17:10called me closed-minded because I wouldn't believe in [ __ ] Ike's reptilian theory.
- 17:18I mean, I love David Ike, but I mean, I love him, too, but I, you know, I often
- 17:23he's he's one in particular, and I did it was because I did, you know, I did a
- 17:26fake interview with him for this show once. I did a little mockup interview
- 17:30and I was so I was watching his stuff and I've always thought because I never
- 17:33looked into it. I thought maybe he's misunderstood. Maybe he's got some zany
- 17:36ideas. He's [ __ ] insane. Like I watched the lecture that I got some of
- 17:41those clips from. Yeah. Where he thinks there's like another planet in the solar
- 17:46system. And I don't even remember what the relevance of this is to anything.
- 17:50Yeah. Isn't Isn't it like directly opposite Earth which is why we can't see
- 17:53it cuz the sun's always in the way. And it's and it's I just I'm like what are
- 17:59you talking about? Like but there are people who believe that he's not the
- 18:04only one to this audiences there like hanging on his every word like oh my god
- 18:09like yeah calling other people close-minded if they don't listen to it.
- 18:13Here's the thing, right? As far-fetched as that sounded, if you brought evidence
- 18:18that that was the case, I've got no choice but to believe it cuz I'll
- 18:22believe whatever I see evidence for. Like, that is how science works, right?
- 18:27Where did he get any of this? It's imaginary. That's the thing. It's not
- 18:32that there's that there's no evidence for it, but it's constructed in a way.
- 18:36It's it's like a form of evidence where it's unfalsifiable. the evidence we do have but
- 18:41unforcable prove me wrong that's what you're saying that's what it seems like
- 18:45that's what he thinks he's sort of like with flatearthers they cannot give
- 18:49evidence flat earth all they do will try and poke holes in the globe and try and
- 18:55use that as evidence of flat earth poke holes in the globe yeah don't do that it'll burst
- 19:01okay it doesn't work like that a rabbit's can prove it's not a
- 19:07balloon Luke. Oh, no. It's a stubby hold, right? I I
- 19:12thought there was Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Mountain Dew. Mountain Dew. I'm sure.
- 19:17No, I'm not feeling the best. I'm So, it's just a vodka double cruiser.
- 19:27Yeah. Because because Luke has come out of surgery and he's a 17-year-old girl at a
- 19:34at a rave that she's snuck into. I'm not feeling well. I'm just having a freezer
- 19:40double. I'm still a little bit out of it from the
- 19:44um the stingy the electrolysis anotist.
- 19:51H the anus. This
- 19:55uh the fine I'll be a man. Don't have to be a man. Drink VB. No.
- 20:01What is a man? What even is a man? Yeah. What is a man? Ask JK Rowling.
- 20:07I would I would ask her and I'd say, "Am
- 20:11I a man?" And if she says no, I'd say,
- 20:16"Well, make me a man." Not in a frank. JK Rowling. I was going
- 20:21to say I would 100% sleep with JK Rowling. I mean, I wouldn't want her to
- 20:25talk about identity politics, but I find her attractive. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. That's
- 20:30what I'm into. This has got a strange direction. I
- 20:36wanted to mention You got a strange erection.
- 20:40You mentioned uh she made Dumbledore gay. Yes. And uh I just wanted to
- 20:46mention that I saw this article. Uh there's a there's a a Christian Sorry.
- 20:50Can I just ask you because I've not read these books. Is that in a book or was
- 20:54that a tweet? It was it was a it was a tweet clarification later. Yeah, a tweet
- 20:59probably. But now there's no point in the actual book where somebody says it's
- 21:05completely irrelevant in the books. He's an old man. It doesn't even come up. No
- 21:08one is. It doesn't come up in the the prequels. Those other books. It does. I
- 21:13think yeah those or are they just licensed? I don't I think they're
- 21:18movies. I don't think they were books. Okay. Not based on books. I think she
- 21:21was involved until they like I said shoved her out the door at some point.
- 21:24But yeah, like it was it was a tweet to go yes she was. He was also Hermione was
- 21:29black apparently and everyone was like yes and she was like I never said what
- 21:34she was and everyone's like it's [ __ ] clear that she's coded as a white child.
- 21:40Yeah. Like like all the other kids at that Scottish boarding school except for
- 21:45the ones you mentioned specifically aren't. Yes. And all the ones that are
- 21:49of the races have very typically racist names. Right. Right. I
- 21:55don't think you would have named her Hermione Granger if if you thought she
- 21:59was Anyway, whatever. Yeah, that's not your style. I mean, you could argue you
- 22:03could argue that the white people also have quite stereotypically white names.
- 22:08She's just not that imaginative, right? That's a thing, too. Now, if you if
- 22:13you're condescending to her, you call her Joanne. That's a thing on the
- 22:15internet. Have you noticed that? I have noticed that. Except that that is her
- 22:19name. I know, but it's just become a meme now. JK because she has the they
- 22:25forced her to do that so that people would think of her more like JR Tolken
- 22:31she wanted Joanne Rowling as the name. So I don't know why calling her name as
- 22:36a as a [ __ ] dissol. Yeah.
- 22:40But anyway, on the subject of turning people gay, a Christian nationalist
- 22:45podcast host this week in a in a podcast. This clip went viral because he
- 22:50was talking about a trip to Florida and how he said whenever he goes to the
- 22:55airport, he makes them pat him down cuz he's not going to go through the gay
- 23:02laser machine. And then people were like, "What?" And he said, "You don't
- 23:07know what that is. I'd rather a man touch me into laser at me." He says that. He
- 23:12goes, "Ironically, people think it's it's a bit weirder to have a man touch
- 23:16you. I don't think so, mate. You don't know what that that machine's doing to
- 23:18you. He thinks the machine turns you gay. Yeah. And he also said, "I won't
- 23:24let my son through that machine." Yeah. He said he was his friend. Your son was
- 23:27Oh, it was his son. His friend who is honest. I think the friend's name was
- 23:32CJ. And I just assumed cuz that's a [ __ ] little boy name. Yeah. So, you
- 23:36probably It could be a friend. Yeah. I don't know. Actually, no. You're not
- 23:38going through that. I need to watch this man touch you. Yeah. Yeah. And then he's
- 23:43gonna touch me with with you all over his hands. I mean,
- 23:50yeah. I just thought that's very funny. It is very funny. Yeah. Now, is he
- 23:55talking is he talking about just the normal like he's talking about the new
- 23:58ones or just I think he's talking about this one. The new ones like the ones where you can
- 24:04that one. Yeah. Um I just Yeah. It couldn't possibly just
- 24:08be the metal detector. Yeah. Who know? And just the the the the casual nature.
- 24:13He just says it in the if you watch the clip, he's just like obvious obviously
- 24:17I'm not going to go through the the gay maker as they call it. Yeah. As everyone
- 24:22calls it. I mean, I've got a sign on it that says caution may turn you gay. Why
- 24:27would you get in it? I got just talking about metal detectors and gays. I got
- 24:31hit on once by a gay security guard at
- 24:35the Daily Planet nightclub in Penri. Oh. And I was, it was so uncomfortable
- 24:40because I was very, very young. It was an under 18's night and he was a like a
- 24:45man. Oh. And um he was he worked there, right? He was the security guard. And
- 24:50he's just going with the wand of everyone who walked in. And he gets to
- 24:54me, he goes, "You got anything I might be interested in?" And I'm like, "No."
- 24:57And then he puts it down near my dick and goes, "I don't know. Some down here
- 25:01I might be interested
- 25:02in." And I was like, "Fucking what?
- 25:09A lighter. Have you got a lighter? That's right. I've never been to the I
- 25:14never went to the Daily Planet. [ __ ] off. You didn't. I don't. I never went
- 25:17to the Daily Planet. No, never went. I would not have fit in at the Daily
- 25:22Planet. No one fits. I don't know what. No, it's on High Street in Penri. All
- 25:27right. What's You're thinking of Yeah. What's that one? The one out the back of
- 25:32the leagues club. Yes. What was that? I I don't never went there either.
- 25:38The closest I got to the Daily Planet when you're going in someone's car and
- 25:41just driving down High Street to go past and just look at girls. Yeah. More. You
- 25:45know what? I reckon the funniest thing to do now if you could find is just to
- 25:49look at cuz in my head those things were very grownup things that we could do
- 25:53when we turned, you know, when we got old enough. I bet if I saw photos of
- 25:57that now, it would just be a bunch of [ __ ] children. Children hammered
- 26:00[ __ ] playing around. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And I reckon it' be very very
- 26:04strange to see what it actually was. Well, I remember. Do you remember they
- 26:09had dollar drink night at the Daily Planet at one point?
- 26:14Dollar drink night. And a friend of ours, I can say his name cuz he's dead,
- 26:19right? Robert Styler. You know who you are. That's the rule is This is a guy
- 26:24who on another night got stabbed in the back. What's he going to do? Stop
- 26:27talking to us again. Behind the Daily Planet. Yeah. But he he he he would
- 26:32appreciate the jokes. He spent 50 plus dollars on dollar drinks there and had
- 26:37to go to European hospital to get his stomach pumped. Wow.
- 26:42See, I I used to get drunk, but I never get got that drunk. Yeah. Yeah. When
- 26:49says, "Oh, that's pretty [ __ ] drunk." Yeah. I think I think
- 26:54maybe goes to the bar says, "I think you should cut that guy off. You've got a
- 26:59problem." Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Swamp Bar was another good one for cheap. Oh, yes.
- 27:04Swamp Bar. Well, I actually went to that uni, right? And it was cheaper there to
- 27:09buy a beer than a Coke because a beer was $220 for a schooner and a Coke was
- 27:15$280. Well, I used to go there on a Thursday night. They used to have bands
- 27:19playing and it was jolly jug. So, you get a jug of beer for five bucks. Yeah.
- 27:23Yeah. And then we discovered if you bought a glass from them for $5, it was
- 27:29only $2 for a beer or $180 or something stupid. So we just had a glass behind
- 27:35the [ __ ] counter with our name on it. It was what was stupid is how I used to
- 27:39get to and from there. The fastest way was for me to jump train tracks. Oh yes.
- 27:45You didn't go through the cross Kingswood. No, you you didn't want to
- 27:47walk that whole way. It didn't walk that whole way. I went straight there. So
- 27:51just dropped the train tracks and I was young. I don't want to freak you out,
- 27:55Luke, but I literally saw two halves of a person on that very track roughly in
- 28:01that area once when I was working at freak you out, but I know somebody who
- 28:07ended their life that way. And I wonder if that's who you saw. [ __ ] hell.
- 28:11Near Kingswood. Yeah. Yeah. Someone from
- 28:15How many could there possibly be? Um, a lot actually. Yeah. Unfortunately, he
- 28:21might be well slightly older than us, but yeah. I mean, I couldn't tell age,
- 28:25sex, or race. Someone from a friend group you someone you might have bumped
- 28:30into at some point. Someone from that friend group in Wellington. Oh,
- 28:35oh, did it on purpose? Yeah. Well, I think so. The comedy part of the
- 28:42podcast. All right. Fine. Fine. Fine.
- 28:48This is seguing off your thing. Before we leave, local [ __ ] Western Sydney
- 28:52bars that no one will know about but us. Um, oh, not Western Sydney, but Manning
- 28:56Bar right at UNSW. Uh, which I saw so many I saw Dresden Dolls there [ __ ]
- 29:02when they were nobody's, but uh the there's a covers band at the
- 29:09moment. A um uh [ __ ] not 30 Seconds to Mars.
- 29:14What's the the other emo band? Um, My Chemical Romance. Yeah, My There's a My
- 29:19Chemical Robots covers band playing there at the moment. Um, which I find
- 29:24odd that we're already far enough in the future of when they were popular that we
- 29:28can have a covers band. But no, they they're quite old now. They're not Well,
- 29:33I think like ABBA, Elvis, the Beatles, but they were old when we were old when
- 29:39we were children. We're now adults. But uh the name of the covers band is
- 29:45the Black Charade and I think that's just a great a great a great tribute.
- 29:51That's a clever cover band name. Yeah, that's better than Abocadabra. You know
- 29:54what I mean? Yeah, sure. Okay. My Chemical Romance have been around since
- 29:592001.
- 30:02Yeah. 20 years. Yeah, I suppose. Yeah. But when but when when we were young and
- 30:08you ever were old that would have been Yeah. Yeah. about
- 30:14Yeah, that's true. The weird thing cuz I used to my parents used to listen to the
- 30:18oldies station in the 80s 2WS, right? Which was stuff from the 60s and 70s cuz
- 30:22this was the ' 80s and that was all but it was like that stuff now is like yeah
- 30:28as you say people you know in the the
- 30:31millennium and yeah it freaks me out.
- 30:38Guys, I um I went to Lumen. I mentioned I was going to do you're an
- 30:43Audi right now. Yeah. Oh, you tell me. There's very few ways to tell. I know
- 30:49too many things to be an idiot, I suppose. Um yeah, but I have a
- 30:55feeling I've got a I've got a theory what's going to happen next season
- 30:59actually, funnily enough. Uh well, we can talk about that. So, yeah. So, well,
- 31:02just quickly on the way back from Let's extrapolate this. Yeah. Yeah. from the
- 31:05on the way back from New Jersey. Uh Jenna had pointed out that there was uh
- 31:09the location of the office where they shoot severance was very close to where
- 31:13I was in New Jersey and sent me the address and it's the Bell Labs building
- 31:17in New Jersey and I the Bell Telephone Company, right? Yeah. I was like, I'll
- 31:22go check it out. The original telephone company. Yeah. Yeah. There's like an old
- 31:26um pay phone in the in there as well. I took some photos of stuff. Um,
- 31:31so I was like, I'll go have a look. And as I'm driving in, I'm like, oh yeah,
- 31:34this is cuz, you know, it's a very unique looking building with the parking
- 31:37lot and everything like that. It's all kind of got this weird egg shape around
- 31:40it and whatever. So I driving in, I'm like, oh wow, this is yeah, this is it.
- 31:43And then they had these electronic billboards that said welcome to Lumen,
- 31:49you know, Apple TV kind of thing. And I was like, oh, that's a fun little gag. I
- 31:52should do a loop and take a photo of those because I assume it's just going to be
- 31:57an office building that I can't go into. Yeah. Yeah. So, I park work. Yeah.
- 32:02Exactly. Right. So, I park and I walk up and I notice that there's a a bunch of
- 32:06people, not not like tons and tons of people, but a bunch of people posing cuz
- 32:09they've got the Lumen sign on the front of the building. And I was like, "Oh."
- 32:14Which I guess makes sense that they would build a pop sign. Yeah. Yeah. So,
- 32:19people are taking photos with it. And then I'm like, "Oh, you can go inside."
- 32:22So I go inside and the foyer, like the
- 32:25the lobby is just the set. Yeah. Because
- 32:29it all when you snapped a picture of that watermelon head, I was
- 32:34like, "Well, hold on." I was surprised. There's tons of stuff
- 32:40there. That's just I guess they just like it's like it's fun. Why not just
- 32:46leave it, I suppose? So, you walk in the lobby and it's got the desk with the
- 32:49loom and it's the set from um the show is just there fenced off. They have
- 32:54security everywhere and uh there's a whole bunch of stuff in there. Like the
- 32:58building is really really cool. Like I mean you can see it in the show. You can
- 33:02see why they picked it architecturally. That's why you went there. Yeah. Um so
- 33:06they had a bunch of stuff. They had like the Lumen vending machines there just
- 33:11around and then Awesome. There's a staircase uh around the back of the the
- 33:16the entry area. That's it's the staircase that
- 33:21um Mark often is seen walking up and down when he enters and exits. Not the
- 33:28not the fire escape one that they kind of run out sometimes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 33:31But kind of the staircase that that people entering and exiting like when he
- 33:35clocks in and he's like morning fill. Exactly. There's a like a stone
- 33:38staircase that goes down. So that's there. They have security there because
- 33:41when you you can go down, but once you get down to the bottom, you can't go
- 33:45into the offices. So you have to go back up again. And they have some posters
- 33:49down there. But there were people coming down and then coming back up and then
- 33:54saying to the security guard, "Sorry, was there supposed to be something down
- 33:57there?" And the security guard was like, "It's the staircase. You're supposed to
- 34:00be looking at the staircase." And they're like, "Oh, this is actually
- 34:05still just an office building. And I'm not a tour guide.
- 34:10I'm just supposed to stop you from going in there where people are actually
- 34:14working. That's so funny. Yeah, it's really cool. I didn't expect it to be
- 34:18that cool. That is way more unnecessarily cool than they have to be
- 34:23about that. Yeah. Yeah. Really embracing it. And so like there are businesses in
- 34:28there as well on the ground floor cuz there's like shops and stuff cuz it's
- 34:30like a really big building and like the florist in there has photos in the
- 34:37window now of characters holding I guess flowers that they've provided stuff like
- 34:42that. It's just really cool. That's awesome. I I mean if if anybody's in the
- 34:45area go check it out. It's really cool if you like severance. But the cuz you
- 34:50hear people all the time like, "Oh, a tree from this [ __ ] you know, the
- 34:53the tree from the from the opening credits of Six Feet Under was in some
- 34:57guy's backyard and so many people wanted to take pictures of he ended up chopping
- 35:00it down." You know what I mean? Like it's like the opposite. And then there's
- 35:04these guys going, "Here's your [ __ ] watermelon head." Yeah, that's right.
- 35:08Yeah. Should we put the lobby back the way it was? Nah. [ __ ] it. Just leave it.
- 35:11Who cares? Yeah. Hey, it's still for those businesses. M we shot we we needed
- 35:17a we needed a street like a um a really
- 35:21really narrow street in um the Philippines to shoot a commercial for an
- 35:26insurance company and um we we it was in
- 35:30a really poor area and we literally got permission there by like bribing the
- 35:36mayor with the equivalent of like 40 bucks, right? You know, like it was just
- 35:40But then we had to cuz it's a commercial. Matt, you worked in
- 35:43commercials. You know, you pick something that does that you go, "Yeah,
- 35:46this is perfect." And then you completely redo it, right? So they
- 35:50[ __ ] put all this scaffolding and they put [ __ ] all the bunting and
- 35:54stuff everywhere to, you know, make it look like way more affluent than it was.
- 35:58And at the end, like the crew went to take it down and the guys are like, "Can
- 36:02can you please leave that up? Like this [ __ ] slum has never You've restored
- 36:06this neighborhood." Yeah. You've increased the value of my property by
- 36:1010fold. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, I had the opposite of that at Breakfast Point
- 36:15if you recall. Yes. Oh, yeah. Is that when you set fight? No, no, no. This is
- 36:20Breakfast Point was a TV commercial for TK Maxx and it was the premise was that
- 36:26every alternate house shops at TK Maxx so they have a fancy front yard and with
- 36:30all nice stuff and then there's a boring one. But Breakfast Point, if people
- 36:34don't know, is a like every house got to look exactly the [ __ ] same. It's one
- 36:38of those places where it's like there are strict rules about things. So the
- 36:43one of the things was you got to put everything back exactly as it was. And
- 36:47then there were things like like they dinged us on stuff like this. Some of
- 36:51that gravel is the wrong color cuz the art department had like put they gone
- 36:57too far with certain things and then so we literally had somebody there [ __ ]
- 37:00picking gravel out of the [ __ ] Oh god. driveway and stuff like crazy.
- 37:06We we shot in this [ __ ] beautiful house somewhere on the beach like just
- 37:12all windows and stuff and they had these big portraits, not paintings, so
- 37:16photographs. So a print out, right? A photograph in huge thing and the wind
- 37:22was roaring through. We probably should have paid better attention to what
- 37:26windows were open and stuff, but one of these fell off and shattered. Um, and
- 37:31like we're obviously we're like we're obviously going to have to pay for this,
- 37:35you know, we'll take it out of the budget. But then they tried to they
- 37:39tried to I don't know if they sued us or whether they were just trying to extort
- 37:43money just basically saying that this was like a original I don't know how
- 37:47they're going to be an original of a photograph but for some from some famous
- 37:51artist and they ended up saying that we were somehow negligent or that we lied
- 37:56that it came off in the wind and they actually their insurance company brought
- 38:00in these huge fans to try to blow the other ones down to because they weren't.
- 38:04Yeah. I wanted proof that you were messing around with it and trying to
- 38:08move stuff that we put it Yeah. that we taken it down. Yeah. Like that guitar in um
- 38:14Hatefully Story where smashed it. I
- 38:19still do not understand why they had that guitar on set at all. Well, it's
- 38:25authenticity. Just tell him though. Make sure you tell
- 38:30him. Be very clear about all this stuff. Yeah. I know you meant to be smashing a
- 38:35guitar soon, but this is not the one. I just love that that I mean I love it's
- 38:39so so dodgy cuz they tell it was an accident and then they go see the
- 38:44movie smashing the [ __ ] guitar in the movie.
- 38:48Yeah. Yeah. Accident. Yeah. I mean in a sense. Um, on the topic of severance
- 38:55still though, because I went to Lumen, I then
- 39:00I I remembered that there's a podcast, the severance podcast with Ben Stiller
- 39:04and Adam Scott. Oh, okay. And I just want to say I highly recommend it. It's
- 39:09very very good. I will recommendation right now. They have the the writer and
- 39:15one of the producers on the first episode. They have the actors on
- 39:19throughout to talk about the show. They basically do a rewatch. So they discuss
- 39:24each episode, but they had different guests on and stuff like that. Yeah. And
- 39:27they talk about things like, as we mentioned before,
- 39:31what do the innies know? Okay. And they were talking about how, you know, when
- 39:37in when Hely wakes up and they do that, they're asking her questions like they
- 39:42say, "Name a state." And she says, "Deaware." And then they ask her
- 39:46personal questions and she's like, "I don't know." Like, "What's your name?" I
- 39:49don't know. And then the the the writers like, "Yes." the they went through a lot
- 39:53of iterations of the questions because the whole point is to say we need to
- 39:57know what made it through. Yeah. Because they need to know enough to function but
- 40:02not enough to operate a computer but I don't know how to contact my outside.
- 40:08And then he also points out in the first episode Irving talks about how they
- 40:13bleep the swear words in movies now. So he knows about that. Oh yeah. And like
- 40:17so they but he said yeah people question it sometimes but they do think about
- 40:21that quite carefully. We live on a dude ranch.
- 40:26Yeah. And there's some really good um stories too like Adam Scott was talking
- 40:32about how he got cast first cuz Ben Stiller really liked him in Step
- 40:36Brothers and then told him if you can think of some other people Step Brothers
- 40:40and that's not a very good movie. No, he's particularly good. He's excellent
- 40:44in it. Yeah. So Ben Stiller said, "If you can think of any people you might
- 40:48want to, you know, we could suggest for the other team members, let me know."
- 40:51And then he goes, "Oh, I was for Irving. There's a guy I saw do a guest spot on
- 40:55some show." And he was quite good and I thought he'd be good at Irving. And then
- 40:58Benilla was like, "Yeah, I was thinking maybe John Turo." And he was like, "All
- 41:03that?" Yeah. And then and then Ben says, "Funny you should say that because I was
- 41:09I asked John Tuto. He said, "Yeah, I'll do it. Do you want to ask Christopher
- 41:12Walkin if he'll do Bert?" He was like, "Yeah, yeah, sure." Jesus.
- 41:18It's so funny that like Yeah. He said the point being that happens to
- 41:24everybody in Hollywood at some point like it's just a
- 41:28Right. Yeah. And then
- 41:31I just Tutoro and Christopher Walkan is just one of my favorite things in that
- 41:38show. Like Yeah. Yeah. Well, it's so so weird like Walkin
- 41:43is in that. But when you think like Walkan's done, it's not like he's done
- 41:46like everything he's done is great in his career, but he's up for it, you
- 41:49know? You just you see I mean I still think his greatest role is in Joe Dirt,
- 41:53you know, like that [ __ ] spoil slight spoilers for
- 41:59season 2. That scene at the train station with the two of them so good.
- 42:04Yeah. Like Yeah. And they're just such interesting actors, too. Like I'm going
- 42:09to give it another try again. Have you got? Yeah. Yeah, you should.
- 42:14Cuz you don't even need to skip ahead. You just need to start from the very
- 42:17next one. Yeah. And if you don't like bottleneck episodes, also skip the one
- 42:22about the wife. It's probably nothing you need to know in that one that you
- 42:26don't get by them discussing it. Yeah. His wife. Okay. Do you find out why she's there and
- 42:33stuff? Yes. But well, no. You find out why important. Well,
- 42:40no. The other thing that makes me less wor, you know, I've mentioned a
- 42:45couple times I'm kind of concerned about the direction like it's gotten very
- 42:48focused on Mark and I was like, I don't know about that. But that is always
- 42:51apparently like the plot of it has always been the plot of it like and when
- 42:56they first they talk about how when they first saw it, it was quite different the
- 43:02structure of it and the people and everything, but the the the like main
- 43:07story has always been the story. So yeah, right. I guess that makes me worry
- 43:12less about the fact that it's going somewhere, you know. Yeah. So they do
- 43:16have they've got the like the main story worked out. It's just the bits and
- 43:19pieces like that. They're still Yeah. the fleshing out. Yeah. They explore
- 43:23stuff about Lumen and the law and all that kind of stuff. That's why they went
- 43:26more. They didn't need to talk more about the goats. No, I agree with that.
- 43:31But thankfully they don't come back to
- 43:34Mimalius whatever except no that the go they made it a bit relevant in a way.
- 43:41Yeah. But they don't go back to that
- 43:43land. Yeah. That literal land. Yeah. Yes.
- 43:49Good show. That that was weird. But yeah, re check out the podcast. It's
- 43:53really good. Really interesting. And like and they're both three. It's
- 43:57they're funny as hell, the two of them. So yeah, they are. Yeah. They have like
- 44:01a 10-minute discussion about daylight savings time at the start, right? And
- 44:05then at one point, Adam Scott's like, "Should we talk about severance?
- 44:10Do they only do season two onwards? Cuz I'd love to hear season one." Yeah, it
- 44:15starts at season one. Oh, [ __ ] Okay. Mhm. All right. Straight out then. Yeah.
- 44:20I I need to check cuz they talk about Patricia Arquette a lot and I like I
- 44:25really want to hear her talk about Coell because she's so like she's just great
- 44:31like Yeah. Yeah, man. Patricia Aette
- 44:35like when she was in Lost Highway Yeah.
- 44:38and True Romance like [ __ ] hell.
- 44:44All over. Yeah. She's still cool. Yeah. Speaking
- 44:50of uh Quent and Tarantino. Yes. Is this
- 44:55real? Cuz I saw this on July 1st and thought it was a joke. They they
- 45:01addressed that too. They said, "Oh, sorry. Shouldn't have done it today."
- 45:04But yeah, it is real. Amazing. Right. Right. So, what's happening?
- 45:09Well, uh you've you know Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Yes. The movie.
- 45:15You're familiar with the movie? I know of it. There's going to be a sequel
- 45:20about Brad Pitt's character or sequel or prequel or something a spin-off based on
- 45:24Brad Pitt's character directed by David Fincher. Apparently, it's it's happening. Quinton
- 45:31Tarot is writing it. Finch is directing it. Brad Pit starring in it. I mean, I'm
- 45:36all in. Of course, I'm also confused, but then again, I suppose it's not the
- 45:40first time he's come in and directed a sequel, but it is like when he was doing
- 45:44that. Yeah. I mean, good on him, but yeah, wouldn't have picked. But also,
- 45:50it's kind of a comedy. Does David Fincher do funny?
- 45:54Don't know. We're going to find out. Or is this going to be real [ __ ] dark
- 45:59and an explanation of what it means to be a man? I mean, there'll almost certainly be
- 46:05some of that. Yeah.
- 46:10Thought they announced it on um April Fool's. Yeah. Well, that's when I saw it
- 46:17and then I was like, uh, very funny, guys. Like, yeah, it says initially
- 46:21dismissed by some as an April Fool's joke. It has turned out to be real.
- 46:24They've said no. It's funny that they say that. So, clearly I'm not the only
- 46:27one who thought that. Yeah. And um, Leonardo DiCaprio and
- 46:33Margar Robbie are not confirmed to be in it, but Margaret Robbiey's
- 46:37representatives have said she's available, which of course, well, you'd
- 46:41want to be in this, I assume. Yeah.
- 46:45And spoilers, she survives this movie.
- 46:49That's right. Yeah. Yeah.
- 46:54All right. I might watch it one day. Have you watched one time in once time
- 47:00in Hollywood? It's very Oh, on the subject of you watching stuff, did you
- 47:04watch it? It's packed away. Can't find it. You wouldn't. Yeah, it's packed away
- 47:09inside your [ __ ] Xbox.
- 47:14Bal Kilmer skips another week. Packed away. I will find it.
- 47:20He's not even convince you until until you watch. Although I did watch I did
- 47:25watch a trailer for it. I do want to watch it cuz I think I will really enjoy
- 47:28it. I like it. You're like, I bet I bet this isn't even a movie I would like.
- 47:32Why do you think I've been telling you specific? I'm not like [ __ ] go and
- 47:36watch it. He'll think it's fine. You will really like it. It's It was a
- 47:41trivia question this week. Actually, the the question was, see if you guys know
- 47:45this. Luke obviously won't know it because he has seen it, but I hadn't
- 47:49seen it either, but I still figured it out from the name. Mhm. Val Kilmer uh
- 47:55wor originally worked with this British actor in Top Secret and then reunited
- 47:59with him 11 years later. The actor is Michael Go or Gooff. Yes. What movie was
- 48:04he in? Correct. What was Alfred? Yeah.
- 48:10Alfred's in it. Yeah. I was like, "Oh, I don't know." And then they said the name
- 48:14and I was like, "Oh, I know who that is." Yeah. Yeah. That's one of those
- 48:17[ __ ] weird Batman facts that's in there. But it's weird. They went like
- 48:21top secret. You think that that question would have worked better the other way
- 48:24around to make it trickier. Yes, 100%. I find trivia
- 48:30questions to be like that sometimes where I'm like, "Why'd you write it that
- 48:34way?" Pretty much just the answer. Yeah. But whatever. Um, have you noticed
- 48:38though everyone's coming out going, "Ah, he was the best Batman though. Can we
- 48:43admit that?" And it's like, "Sorry, I know he's just died." And I love that
- 48:48movie. Yeah, I love that movie, but he's
- 48:50not. And no one's Adam for 30 years. I
- 48:56saw that at the movies and I remember it's almost like
- 49:00it's I was like, "Oh, I liked that." But
- 49:03I don't know. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. M I can it was like how I see why they are
- 49:09where they didn't put Robin in the other ones. Yeah. Yeah. Tim Burton ones and
- 49:15like Michael Schumacher. Michael Schumacher. Joel Schumacher.
- 49:22Tim. Well, not now, but back in the day.
- 49:25Yeah. No. Direct a movie. Uh no.
- 49:30It'll be slow. Um, the Joel Schumacher
- 49:34has made some very good movies, but he is also high camp. And I guess you could
- 49:41argue that that works with Batman. He was the one who put nipples on the suit,
- 49:44wasn't he? Mhm. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, and I mean, he did it on purpose.
- 49:50It's not like it was like, you know, like he made an actual choice to do it.
- 49:54He wasn't trying to make a serious dark movie and was mistakenly thought the
- 49:58nipples would fit the theme kind of thing. No, he was trying to make a show,
- 50:02a movie that had nipples on. [ __ ] is over there going, "Nice to meet you."
- 50:08Do not put me in the cooler.
- 50:14Yeah. Yeah. It's just a completely different tone.
- 50:19Yeah. Are they making a sequel to the 1989 Batman? There's a comic sequel. Oh, it's a book
- 50:26sequel. Yeah. Oh, there is a sequel. It's called Batman Returns. Oh, I know. But are they
- 50:30making a sequel to that? It's I don't know. That's I hear that every now and
- 50:33again. Yeah. Yeah, there's Well, there's a book and then uh that I have that I've
- 50:37not read yet. Uh and then there's a sequel to that book coming out. Oh, yes.
- 50:41Okay. Are these on Audible? I bet they'd be great audio books. Yeah, I'm going to
- 50:46look at that. Look at that. I think it's just I think it's literally just a
- 50:51sequel to the first film, too. I don't think it actually includes Batman
- 50:54Returns cuz that Batman Returns did go to tonally very different. Oh yeah,
- 50:59that's I love Batman Returns. I love it. I like it for what it is. Yeah, but like
- 51:05it's it's Tim Burton. They were like, "You can do what you want." Batman was
- 51:11great. And then and then they were like, "Oh, [ __ ] We should have let him
- 51:17um it's like I've got this one playlist
- 51:20on my phone on my Spotify of like '9s
- 51:25era and early 2000s like old rock and stuff, right? And some songs come on,
- 51:31I'm like, "Fuck, this still holds up." But anytime a corn song comes on, I'm
- 51:37like, "I still like this, but just for nostalgia." Sure. Like it just if this
- 51:42came out today, people be like, "What is that?" Yeah.
- 51:48Yeah. Great band though. But yeah, I mean, and heaps of other bands around
- 51:53that time. Yeah, I bet they are. Well, we don't get their original lineup now,
- 51:57aren't they? Yeah. Heads back. Yeah. Well, not the drummer. Sorry. No, David
- 52:01SA retired. All right. Oh, one thing. I was listening, you might know this,
- 52:05Matt. I was listening to uh Blimp Biscuit on the same playlist this week.
- 52:10Right. Are there two guitarists in that band or do they just Luke West Borland
- 52:14in playing all the guitar parts on the albums? Yeah, I figured it must be.
- 52:19Yeah, cuz otherwise it' just be somebody else as good as him, right? No. No. Just
- 52:25cuz in Counterfeit there's just so many different Oh, yeah. Parts going at the
- 52:30same time. Yeah. No, it's just we layered.
- 52:36Yep. Yep. Um, I watched a true crime this week.
- 52:41Uh, and it was, it's a slightly interesting story because it was
- 52:44triggered by we were driving home from Boston. Why were we in Boston? I don't
- 52:50recall. Tea Party. Oh, when we went to the the Bluey thing with LRA. Oh, yeah.
- 52:56So, we're driving back and on an overpass, we see a bunch of people
- 52:59holding signs that say free Karen Reed. Ah, yes. I'll take her. Yeah, I'll take
- 53:04her. And we're like, what's that about? So, Jenna looked it up and was like,
- 53:07"Oh, it's an ongoing court case about a murder or
- 53:11well, a death." And uh and then there's a HBO documentary that's just come out a
- 53:17couple weeks ago about it. Luke's familiar with it. It sounds like I am.
- 53:20Yes. I've known you watch it. Uh no, I haven't watched that. I've been
- 53:23following um there are some YouTubers out there. Yeah. Okay. One called Turtle
- 53:27Boy that he's in the documentary. He's a documentary that's been on her side.
- 53:32He's actually I don't know if he's still in jail or is he going to jail for
- 53:36campus witness uh witness tampering and Jesus. Okay. Did you say tamper
- 53:41witnessing? Because I'm going to I'm going to write that down and then I'm
- 53:44going to get going of Florida. Tampa witnessing. Yes. Um tamper witnessing.
- 53:50So the gist of it this is a it's I think it's very interesting. The the
- 53:53documentary is on HBO. It's called A Body in the Snow. And it's basically
- 53:56what happened. The gist of it is there's a couple, one of them's a Boston police
- 54:00officer, the other one is this woman, Karen Reed. They're in a relationship.
- 54:04Um, they go out one night with a bunch of friends who are all law enforcement
- 54:08adjacent people. So, there's police officers and like an ATF agent. All
- 54:12these people are all kind of cop related. Mhm. They go out, they're all
- 54:16drinking. One of them says some police sergeant says, "Let's bars closing. Do
- 54:21you want to come back? Everybody come back to my house. We'll have some more
- 54:22drinks." So everybody is and there's a blizzard going on. Everybody drives
- 54:27home, everybody's kind of drunk, like no no getting around that. Uh when Karen
- 54:34and John get there, there's some question about what exactly happens, but
- 54:39they were kind of having a bit of an argument or whatever. He gets out of the car.
- 54:44It's quite unclear what happens next, but she leaves. Mhm. Goes home, wakes up
- 54:51in the morning. He's dead in the snow. That's the gist of it. And the question
- 54:56is, what happened to him? And the
- 55:00immediate thing is that she thinks at first it's all very confusing, but
- 55:06basically it's like, did she hit him with the car or as the defense is
- 55:12alleging, was he murdered by the people in the house, all the police people who
- 55:18then covered it up? Oh, that's the gist of the story. And it's like quite Do the
- 55:24people who say free her think it's a conspiracy? Yes. I Well, see, I think
- 55:29that's Is it more likely that it's a conspiracy or an accident with a car? I
- 55:34think it's tough because there's it's hard because the the the the accident
- 55:40story doesn't actually make sense either when you look at all the evidence. Like,
- 55:43it's it's very confusing like how like we don't have to go into the specifics.
- 55:49people should watch it. But I just question like the version that they're
- 55:53saying this is what happened. It's like that doesn't make any sense. Like how
- 55:58would he have how would he have gotten there in the snow? Why did nobody see
- 56:01him? Like there's just a lot of stuff where it's like I don't know, man. And
- 56:06then but then yeah, you're right. Like there's like 10 people involved in this
- 56:10[ __ ] cover up are all cops. It seems unlikely that they would all
- 56:15but again it's not impossible. So maybe, yeah, but the more people you have in on
- 56:21something like that, that's what I always think too. All 10 of them have on
- 56:26the line, Making a Murder and they're
- 56:30very paranoid cuz Making a Murderer played a lot like pretty loosey goosey
- 56:36with the facts when you follow it up and it's like it's actually does seem like
- 56:40he probably killed Theresa Hullbeck. Yeah. Like there's but the cops did a
- 56:45really bad job investigating. You probably killed a lot of other people.
- 56:49The cops just did a bad job. And in this case, too, the cops did a terrible job
- 56:53cuz it was a there's a blizzard. They couldn't get the proper investigations
- 56:56team there. They were using a [ __ ] snowb blower to clear the snow where the
- 56:59body was. It's just bits of [ __ ] stuff going everywhere. It's just a
- 57:02disaster. Like Jesus. And everybody
- 57:07involved is a cop and they all know each other. And it's just like so easy to
- 57:12say, well, you really shouldn't have been involved. But like Yeah. How do you
- 57:16deal with that? Like they're all cops. So anyway, interesting and worth
- 57:23checking out. I just don't know what to make of it to be honest. Is on Netolixu.
- 57:28It's on HBO here. I don't know where it would be. So I'm not quite sure what HBO
- 57:33HBO is sort of a bit of a mix sometimes. That's what I mean. I'm not sure how it
- 57:36works down there. Not soon. They've got they're launching here soon. Oh, yay.
- 57:40Another streaming service.
- 57:45But yes, interesting. Oh yeah, she's a very um she seems very she likes the
- 57:52attention which doesn't help either. It's all very like oh prime
- 57:59currently unavailable. So [ __ ] oh but the sorry the spoilers the first trial
- 58:04was declared a mistrial because the jury was just like we have no [ __ ] idea
- 58:08like none of this makes any sense. Basically, they can't agree. And uh and
- 58:13so now there's a new trial happening this month, which I guess is why they're
- 58:18getting the documentary out. Yeah, I I only know from the Turtle Boy
- 58:22stuff cuz I sometimes watch I did hear that there's some new evidence that's
- 58:26come out since that doesn't look good for her in the This is the other thing
- 58:30that's weird though, right? They charged her with murder and I'm like, well,
- 58:33surely it was an accident if anything, right? Like even your murder. Yeah. I
- 58:39don't know why they're going for murder. Yeah. You think you go for manslaughter,
- 58:42which is that's Yeah, that's the other charge. But it's like they're going for
- 58:46seconddegree murder. It's like they think she did it on purpose
- 58:50accidentally. Like what? I don't get it. So I can see why the jury didn't get it
- 58:54cuz I don't [ __ ] get it. Matt, did you watch the second season of The Jinx?
- 58:58No, I've got to do that. This reminded me that that's on there, too. Oh, yes.
- 59:02So just just to to to wet your whistle as it were and this is not a spoiler
- 59:07because this is the opening scene of this first episode in the second season
- 59:12before it's footage of the room where
- 59:16all the people interviewed in the first season are watching the final episode of
- 59:22the first season not knowing what happens. Right.
- 59:27And so the people that tried him and all of that like watching him confess while
- 59:33he's taking a piss. Yeah. Cuz I was like, "Where can it go from
- 59:38here?" Oh, no. That's quite That's quite compelling content.
- 59:42Yeah. It's incredible. There's also And all because he wanted to do stuff like
- 59:47Yeah. He's got away with it. He reached out to them. Yeah. Yep. Had gotten away
- 59:52with it. Yeah. He literally he literally could have just let it go. Yeah. Y
- 59:58yeah. Um but there's also a bit where there's an interview like just a normal
- 1:00:02a normal scene and then it the camera pans out and the assistants run in going
- 1:00:08um he's
- 1:00:10dead and uh and the interview is like oh
- 1:00:15we might stop here then. [ __ ] hell cuz he died while they were making it. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:00:21Yeah. But they they show they show the moment in the in the it's great. I
- 1:00:26almost feel like I have to watch re-watch the first one. I did. I did.
- 1:00:30Yeah. And then watch the second one. I did too. I started watching the first
- 1:00:32one. That series the first time I watched it like as a documentary
- 1:00:38filmmaker that must have been like the greatest Yeah. day of their life. Like
- 1:00:43in a in a weird cuz it's not a nice thing, right? But
- 1:00:47but to have realized you have a record but they knew that it was soaked into
- 1:00:53murder. Yeah, but they asked the cops not to arrest him until the next day.
- 1:00:58They knew they were on to something so good. We've got evidence for you, but
- 1:01:02you have to let this air first. Don't take this away from us. Yeah,
- 1:01:09that's right. This is a [ __ ] unicorn. So imagine being the [ __ ] sound
- 1:01:13recordist and you're just sitting there and you're like Well, it reminds me also.
- 1:01:19Yeah. [ __ ] hell. Yeah, cuz I've I've like
- 1:01:24that's parodyied in a lot of shows like people badmouth people while they're on
- 1:01:28it. But that happens all the time. Yeah. Like constantly. He does Sorry. He does
- 1:01:34it earlier in in the documentary, too. He has a seeming like I mean I guess if
- 1:01:40you're not used to Oh yeah. Yeah. Cuz the the assistant comes in and goes you
- 1:01:43need to stop talking about Yeah. Stop talking. You've got a microphone on like
- 1:01:47what you also don't forget like I'll be sitting with clients in video village
- 1:01:50right and they'll be like oh can you change this like oh no it's going to be
- 1:01:54don't make me ask her to do it like that. No no you have to. She has to say
- 1:01:57let's fine. And then I'll go up to her and I'll say these [ __ ] over
- 1:02:03there. Then I get back and they're like, you know, when you're talking directly
- 1:02:06to her, you're talking into her mic. We can all Yeah.
- 1:02:13And then you can say, I know, I know. It's just And then she's like, you know, when
- 1:02:18you're talking to them, they've got microphones on. You're all [ __ ] I [ __ ] hate you
- 1:02:25all. Right. You know where there's no [ __ ]
- 1:02:32wits? The afterparty. Is that true? Sometimes there are. Yeah, that's that's where we
- 1:02:38talk mainly about [ __ ] No, we got our [ __ ] news done with JK Rowling.
- 1:02:43Do you know what I've told you? Make me a man. Do not under any circumstances
- 1:02:47let Neil Gaiman in this week cuz Luke is a sick of him and as far as I'm aware.
- 1:02:52But you know what he's you know what he's going to do Matt? He's just gonna
- 1:02:54come in the back door. Like an eye on I know he's we're gonna get in there. He's
- 1:03:00gonna be in the bath waiting. Yeah, but we'll see. I've told them. Keep an
- 1:03:06eye out. Please know. But what's the afterparty?
- 1:03:11Oh, the after party is a more show. Yeah, we'll keep talking for another
- 1:03:15like 10 to 15 an hour depending how we feel. Whatever we want to do. We've
- 1:03:21twice now done one longer than the main show. Yeah, we do have quite a lot of
- 1:03:25stuff we could talk about. So, a lot of people andor things have died this week.
- 1:03:29Yes. Yes. And that's why we cover them. I know one of them is not getting geek
- 1:03:32of a week. Oo. I mean, it had its
- 1:03:35chance. Yep. It's its own fault. If you want to know what he's talking
