- 0:01Being a spiritual seeker and a manager of a business or a unit
- 0:06or department or program are not incompatible activities.
- 0:12The question that seekers raise is how to find the proper
- 0:15balance that allows the work, including the management work
- 0:19that they do, be part of their spiritual sadhna.
- 0:24If they are interpreting that work according to a fixed
- 0:27guideline of right or wrong, they frequently opt toward a
- 0:31more severe and less forgiving form of management.
- 0:35The manager's methodology is very much dependent on the guna
- 0:39that predominates in his nature, as well as the standpoint of the
- 0:43manager with respect to the spiritual sadhna.
- 0:47The vital nature is a natural seat of rajas, and when rajas is
- 0:52in the forefront, there can be a tendency toward bullying,
- 0:56domineering spirit and exercise of control or power.
- 1:00What we call in the animal Kingdom the enforcement of a
- 1:04pecking order. We see this very clearly in
- 1:07terms of military training and hierarchy as well, where the
- 1:11lower orders of participants are harassed and bullied and berated
- 1:16into compliance with the authority of the manager in that
- 1:19circumstance. This is in fact a very common
- 1:23management method found widely throughout the world.
- 1:27For the spiritual seeker, however, who wants to develop a
- 1:30different way and who understands that the
- 1:33relationships and stress that develop under this method are
- 1:37actually counterproductive and the opposite to what he wants to
- 1:41encourage in his spiritual growth, it is easy for the vital
- 1:45nature to generally convince the mind to support its desires, so
- 1:50there are no end of arguments as to why this may be the best
- 1:54approach to develop the work. In the end, however, the seeker
- 2:00finds that he needs to shift his standpoint to the parts of the
- 2:03being that more directly align with his spiritual aspirations,
- 2:08and that means with the emergence of the psychic being
- 2:12and the increase of its influence upon the outer nature.
- 2:18It is with the emergence of the psychic being that a new
- 2:21emphasis arises for harmony, cooperation, goodwill, and
- 2:26empathy. When the seeker is oriented from
- 2:29this direction, his entire approach to working with others
- 2:34and managing processes and projects undergoes major changes
- 2:38and adjustments. There is more emphasis on people
- 2:42learning and growing during the process, a concerted effort to
- 2:46achieve harmonious and willing cooperation rather than
- 2:50obtaining grudging support through pressure and domineering
- 2:54controls. The goal can be kept clearly in
- 2:57focus and a clear sighted understanding can be applied to
- 3:01move the project forward without harming the development of
- 3:06others who are participating in the process.
- 3:09This also takes more trust in the process, the participants
- 3:14and the efficacy of the means over the long term, Fierrobindo
- 3:20observes. Quote Each human being is
- 3:23composed of different personalities that feel and
- 3:26behave in a different way, and his action is determined by the
- 3:30one that happens to be prominent at the time.
- 3:33The one that has no feelings against anyone is either the
- 3:37psychic being or the emotional being in the heart.
- 3:42The one that feels anger and is severe is a part of the external
- 3:46vital nature. On the surface, this anger and
- 3:50severity is a wrong form of something that in itself has a
- 3:53value, a certain strength of will and force of action and
- 3:58control in the vital being, without which work cannot be
- 4:02done. What is necessary is to get rid
- 4:05of the anger and to keep the force and firm will, along with
- 4:10a developed judgement as to what is the right thing to do in any
- 4:14circumstances. For instance, people can be
- 4:18allowed to do things in their own way when that does not spoil
- 4:22the work, when it is only their way of doing what is necessary
- 4:26to be done, when their way as opposed to the discipline of the
- 4:29work, then they have to be controlled.
- 4:32But it should be done quietly and kindly, not with anger.
