- 0:26Speaker 1: All right, welcome to a special presentation of Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:30Speaker 1: We are live high above the practice fields here at
- 0:33Speaker 1: Jillette Stadium for a joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 0:38Speaker 1: I can tell you the fans are streaming in, pouring
- 0:41Speaker 1: in unprecedented attendance for twenty twenty four. It's going to
- 0:47Speaker 1: be packed. They're going to be overflowing on the ramps.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Both teams are pretty much out there. Summer stragglers are
- 0:54Speaker 1: still coming on. But we're ready to go here at
- 0:57Speaker 1: Jillette Stadium for what should be a very interesting and
- 1:01Speaker 1: we hope, illuminating day with the Philadelphia Eagles. I'm here
- 1:06Speaker 1: with Paul Parillo, Mike Dods, Evan Lazar Tamara. Brown will
- 1:10Speaker 1: be up a little later. But guys, uh, do you
- 1:13Speaker 1: feel the excitement? This is a little bit different. I do. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:16Speaker 4: So he was down there before kicking getting the crowd
- 1:19Speaker 4: hyped up, but had some PU T shirts, a lot
- 1:21Speaker 4: of PU fans down there, so it was great to
- 1:23Speaker 4: meet some of our people that support the program. So
- 1:26Speaker 4: that was good as and here comes Drake may walking
- 1:28Speaker 4: onto the field, so always good to see him and
- 1:30Speaker 4: the big day for him.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Curious how these guys, I mean, really the Patriots across.
- 1:34Speaker 4: The board going up against the offensive line versus their
- 1:37Speaker 4: defensive line, our cornerbacks versus their receivers, and you know
- 1:40Speaker 4: just how generally the quarterbacks perform here for the Patriots.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Is me, like you said Friday, a lot a lot
- 1:45Speaker 4: to see today?
- 1:45Speaker 1: Yeah, we Girard Mayo spoke before the practice today and
- 1:49Speaker 1: he informed everyone that they're gonna treat it like a
- 1:52Speaker 1: game minus the tackling, so everything, you know, minus the
- 1:56Speaker 1: actual bringing guys down to the ground. You know, it's
- 1:59Speaker 1: like a thud they call it. Yeah, you know, so
- 2:01Speaker 1: you come up, you make contact, you wrap up, but
- 2:04Speaker 1: you don't bring people to the ground. It could happen,
- 2:07Speaker 1: but that's not the plan. But otherwise, like you said,
- 2:11Speaker 1: my you know the type of matchups. You know, both
- 2:14Speaker 1: teams will coordinate, they'll set up situations where they want
- 2:18Speaker 1: to see certain players against other players, certain units against
- 2:21Speaker 1: other units, and you know it'll be reciprocal. But you know,
- 2:27Speaker 1: if you're looking for Drake May and Jacoby Brissett to
- 2:31Speaker 1: get a lot of reps, I think you're going to
- 2:32Speaker 1: see that today. Yeah, absolutely.
- 2:34Speaker 4: I mean I'm thinking back to Green Bays, which which
- 2:36Speaker 4: I think Evan was just really team periods, Like they
- 2:39Speaker 4: didn't really.
- 2:39Speaker 5: Do one on one blocking or one on one coverage.
- 2:41Speaker 5: It was you know, I've told the story before.
- 2:43Speaker 4: We warmed up and we went over there and it
- 2:45Speaker 4: was just right onto the field for some intense eleven
- 2:47Speaker 4: on eleven. So I'll be curious. You know, Patriots have
- 2:50Speaker 4: been really taken a while to warm up. I think
- 2:52Speaker 4: that's you know, working on running and you know all
- 2:55Speaker 4: the different things they've been doing, takes a good what
- 2:57Speaker 4: forty forty five minutes to you know, really get going.
- 2:59Speaker 1: So that's a good point.
- 3:00Speaker 4: I don't know if they're gonna like spend some time
- 3:02Speaker 4: warming up and then get right into it.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Will there be some one on one drills. I think
- 3:05Speaker 1: we're all mostly.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Interested in the team periods though, because you know, as
- 3:09Speaker 4: you've heard Mayo speak, you hear pell of green and
- 3:11Speaker 4: yesterday the one on ones. It's easy to overread into
- 3:13Speaker 4: some of that stuff. But I just think for me,
- 3:15Speaker 4: the seeing the offense out there, how do they protect
- 3:18Speaker 4: is their pocket?
- 3:19Speaker 1: You know?
- 3:19Speaker 4: I know a couple of weeks ago, I was saying, Ah,
- 3:21Speaker 4: the offensive line will be fine. I don't know, man,
- 3:24Speaker 4: I'm not feeling great about that. After the preseason, Viderian
- 3:27Speaker 4: Low has been locking down the left side. I guess
- 3:28Speaker 4: maybe I shouldn't say locking down, but I got real
- 3:31Speaker 4: concerns about the edges right now. And this is a
- 3:33Speaker 4: team that you know, they've had some turnover in the front,
- 3:36Speaker 4: you know, with Fletcher Cox's retiring, but you know, and
- 3:39Speaker 4: losing their their pass rusher, Reddick cooting out with the Jets.
- 3:41Speaker 4: But I think anytime you get to go against another
- 3:43Speaker 4: team pass rush off.
- 3:44Speaker 1: The edge, how's it going to look against those tackles?
- 3:46Speaker 1: That's that to me is really what it's about.
- 3:48Speaker 5: But they do have good edge you know, pressure potential,
- 3:51Speaker 5: And they did sign Bryce Huff yeah, sort of replaced Reddick.
- 3:55Speaker 5: And obviously the Jets are going through a whole thing
- 3:57Speaker 5: with Reddick. But that's for another time, right, But I
- 4:00Speaker 5: do think that some of those those matchups not necessarily
- 4:02Speaker 5: one on ones. I do think we'll see someone on ones.
- 4:04Speaker 5: But those kinds of matchups, how do you know you
- 4:07Speaker 5: have a j Brown, DeVante Smith, Dallas Goddard, you know
- 4:10Speaker 5: in Saquan Barkley. That's a good group of skilled position
- 4:13Speaker 5: guys for the Patriots defense to go against it. And obviously,
- 4:17Speaker 5: you know, Mike just talked about the offensive line and
- 4:19Speaker 5: what you're looking for for protection and not just on
- 4:21Speaker 5: the edges, but two mammoth guys.
- 4:23Speaker 1: On the inside.
- 4:24Speaker 5: Uh, you know is Jawi Con Jordan Davis. So I
- 4:28Speaker 5: know that's the strength of the Patriots offensive liners. Those
- 4:30Speaker 5: interior three good tests for those guys.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, according I've got the script, and I
- 4:36Speaker 1: don't know why we're just speculating. Are we gonna score?
- 4:38Speaker 6: To jump in.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Again? At eleven oh five they will have one on ones, uh,
- 4:45Speaker 1: and then that'll go for about ten minutes, and then
- 4:47Speaker 1: at eleven fifteen they're gonna have two on two pass
- 4:50Speaker 1: rush and seven on seven. Now, whether that's joint at
- 4:54Speaker 1: that point, I don't know, Like, uh, it's supposed to be,
- 4:58Speaker 1: is it okay? All right? And then about eleven thirty
- 5:02Speaker 1: or so they're going to get into team drills and
- 5:05Speaker 1: so on. They'll n according to this around twelve fifty
- 5:11Speaker 1: delen the practice, so you know that's what we have
- 5:14Speaker 1: to look forward to.
- 5:15Speaker 5: But Jonathan Jones, that's a little interesting. Jonathan Jones coming out.
- 5:19Speaker 5: He's didn't dress up yesterday.
- 5:21Speaker 7: But yeah, it sounds like no Hunter Henry. That's what
- 5:24Speaker 7: Gerd Mayo said to us a few minutes ago. So
- 5:27Speaker 7: he's not going to practice. But Mayo did mention that
- 5:29Speaker 7: he didn't think it's going to be a long term
- 5:31Speaker 7: absence for Henry, but he won't be out here. But
- 5:34Speaker 7: Jonathan Jones is, as Deus said, just got on the field,
- 5:38Speaker 7: so we'll see about him. Marcus Jones, you know some
- 5:41Speaker 7: of the other guys that have been in and out
- 5:43Speaker 7: the last few days, handful days. But I think the
- 5:45Speaker 7: biggest thing we talked about this a little bit on
- 5:49Speaker 7: our recap yesterday on the camp cast, is just when
- 5:52Speaker 7: you go up against another team and then these practice
- 5:54Speaker 7: that has actually heard Bill Belichick talking about this on
- 5:56Speaker 7: Pat McAfee yesterday.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Get me started out.
- 5:59Speaker 7: You don't have to worry about putting stuff on tape
- 6:02Speaker 7: because there is no tape of this practice that's going
- 6:05Speaker 7: out to the thirty one other teams or thirty other teams.
- 6:07Speaker 7: So schematically, you can do some of the stuff that
- 6:11Speaker 7: you're planning on doing in season and show some of
- 6:13Speaker 7: the things, you know, the motions or the fakes or
- 6:16Speaker 7: whatever that you're going to do in games. And this
- 6:18Speaker 7: is a chance against another defense to see if some
- 6:20Speaker 7: of that stuff works and if some of that stuff
- 6:23Speaker 7: is executed properly. So we've talked about it a little
- 6:26Speaker 7: bit that it seems like the Patriots defense and offense
- 6:30Speaker 7: have a pretty good feel for what each other is
- 6:31Speaker 7: doing at this point of camp and going up against
- 6:34Speaker 7: each other for thirteen straight practices. But now you have
- 6:37Speaker 7: another defense that you're going up against, and maybe they
- 6:39Speaker 7: do bite a little bit harder on that bootleg fake,
- 6:42Speaker 7: or maybe that motion does cause you some more confusion
- 6:45Speaker 7: in the secondary when they don't necessarily have the communication
- 6:48Speaker 7: down yet. So you see, some of that stuff will
- 6:51Speaker 7: be interesting from this point on with these joint practices
- 6:55Speaker 7: in the couple preseason games that they have left.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, Belichick was on Pat McAfee talk about
- 7:00Speaker 1: in these joints, you might run some of your gadget
- 7:03Speaker 1: plays and some of your trick plays and just to
- 7:05Speaker 1: see how they look, so you know who knows.
- 7:08Speaker 5: Yeah, Marcus Jones coming onto the field, which it's a
- 7:11Speaker 5: pretty good sign.
- 7:12Speaker 1: I mean he's been out for a while now.
- 7:13Speaker 4: Missed the last God, I've lost track, but yeah, I
- 7:16Speaker 4: just would say that those two guys, the Jones boys,
- 7:19Speaker 4: have been out here in uniform but not really done
- 7:21Speaker 4: anything for a while.
- 7:23Speaker 5: So I'm gonna sort of hold off and see what
- 7:25Speaker 5: they're what they end up doing, but.
- 7:27Speaker 1: I agree to take the cheese. Paul.
- 7:28Speaker 5: Then being out here at the start, yeah obviously, because
- 7:31Speaker 5: you know, sometimes they haven't been out here at the
- 7:33Speaker 5: very beginning of practice.
- 7:34Speaker 1: So good to see them both out here and and dressed.
- 7:37Speaker 7: You also wonder with some of those injuries, if it
- 7:40Speaker 7: was a regular season game that really meant something versus
- 7:43Speaker 7: a training camp practice, would the player be able to play?
- 7:46Speaker 7: This is they're treating it like a game. You know,
- 7:48Speaker 7: this is about as ramped up as you get for
- 7:51Speaker 7: this time of year. So if it's a little bump
- 7:53Speaker 7: or bruise here or there, maybe you practice on a
- 7:56Speaker 7: daylight today, whereas a day like yesterday, they say take
- 7:59Speaker 7: it easy. So I could see that happening with a
- 8:01Speaker 7: guy like Jonathan Jones, for example, who I think was
- 8:03Speaker 7: getting veteran management and more than anything.
- 8:06Speaker 4: Sure, yeah, I think you know, last couple of joint
- 8:09Speaker 4: practices we've done Vegas, Green Bay, more so Vegas DeVante
- 8:13Speaker 4: Adams was just I mean eye popping his talent, but
- 8:17Speaker 4: just aj Brown, DeVante Smith. I mean, we spend so
- 8:20Speaker 4: much time talking about trying to get a guy like
- 8:22Speaker 4: that in New England, and I just always think we're
- 8:25Speaker 4: I'm so used to watching Patriots practices. It's good to
- 8:28Speaker 4: get a sense of how the rest of the league looks,
- 8:30Speaker 4: and you know what some of those other receivers across
- 8:32Speaker 4: the league that you know, everybody covets.
- 8:34Speaker 1: So much what they look like on the practice field.
- 8:36Speaker 1: You see Marcus Jones walking on the field right now,
- 8:39Speaker 1: just so people know that haven't been with us when
- 8:42Speaker 1: we do these live practices from camp before there comes
- 8:46Speaker 1: a time in practice where we're told we can't film anymore.
- 8:50Speaker 1: And that'll go for Eagles cameras as well. I think
- 8:52Speaker 1: that's after period four today, So at that point you'll
- 8:56Speaker 1: just hear us talking about what's going on in the
- 9:00Speaker 1: you and you know that goes back to what we
- 9:02Speaker 1: were talking about before. This is something that uh the
- 9:06Speaker 1: tape doesn't go out so that both teams are a
- 9:08Speaker 1: little bit more comfortable, uh, you know, showing things that
- 9:12Speaker 1: they wouldn't otherwise show. So that's why cameras have to
- 9:15Speaker 1: be turned to us after period four. But we'll do
- 9:19Speaker 1: our best to describe what we're seeing, uh, you know,
- 9:22Speaker 1: in in real time. So I think it's still worth
- 9:25Speaker 1: hanging on, uh once the cameras go to us. If
- 9:29Speaker 1: you can stand looking at us, I'd.
- 9:30Speaker 4: Say you've got to be a little careful though, because
- 9:32Speaker 4: all these coaches talk to each other, and I mean
- 9:34Speaker 4: if you're if you're breaking out some uh you know,
- 9:36Speaker 4: extreme trickeration. I'm not sure what's going to hold Nick
- 9:38Speaker 4: Sirianni from you know, taking a call from from the jets,
- 9:41Speaker 4: like so I would drink joint practices.
- 9:43Speaker 5: The part of that is, I mean, how many times
- 9:45Speaker 5: we've seen a ton of footage from around the league
- 9:48Speaker 5: of these joint practices.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean mostly fights, because a lot of fights.
- 9:52Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I think jid Mao has a decent plan
- 9:55Speaker 5: to prevent that.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Well, you can't stop the street, Paul, you know, you
- 9:59Speaker 1: can can't stop the street if the street wants to film.
- 10:02Speaker 1: The street's gonna film, so and.
- 10:04Speaker 5: I know which street we were talking about there the
- 10:07Speaker 5: fans off the street street cameras and then now I
- 10:10Speaker 5: get it, yeah fan cam.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I thought that was your verbiage there, young Evan.
- 10:15Speaker 7: But we were talking about fights, and then you brought
- 10:18Speaker 7: up the streets and I wasn't sure which direction we
- 10:21Speaker 7: were going.
- 10:22Speaker 5: I say, I thought he was talking about fight. You
- 10:23Speaker 5: can't stop the street coming out.
- 10:25Speaker 1: No, no, I talked about I was talking about the
- 10:27Speaker 1: the from that, you know. I was talking about the
- 10:29Speaker 1: user generated content that come from the streets. Yeah. So
- 10:33Speaker 1: it's uh, it's it's this is as packed as I've
- 10:35Speaker 1: seen it.
- 10:36Speaker 4: Practice hasn't even started yet, but rams are filling up
- 10:38Speaker 4: and like I mean, it's just still.
- 10:40Speaker 1: This is the best crowd of the summer with Brett.
- 10:42Speaker 5: Fred opened with that I totally agree, and it's a
- 10:45Speaker 5: perfect day and asked me the best day of.
- 10:47Speaker 1: The I don't know. If we can move the camera
- 10:49Speaker 1: right now we're looking at the bleaches. We can move
- 10:51Speaker 1: it to the right and we can show the the walkway.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Keep going to the right. It is jammed with people.
- 10:59Speaker 5: You guys can see the official will start to make
- 11:00Speaker 5: their way on the field too. We've seen them in
- 11:02Speaker 5: the last couple of days of camp. You know that. Unfortunately,
- 11:06Speaker 5: I've been forced into duty a little bit too often.
- 11:08Speaker 5: Been a lot of flags, Yeah, a lot of flags
- 11:11Speaker 5: the last couple of days.
- 11:12Speaker 1: And I you know, Scott Zola came early and gave
- 11:14Speaker 1: me the traffick report. He said, Route one is just
- 11:17Speaker 1: jammed with cars, so, uh, they're gonna be overflowing onto
- 11:21Speaker 1: the rams today. Uh. You know, if, like you said, Paul,
- 11:25Speaker 1: if if you're not gonna, if you're not gonna.
- 11:26Speaker 5: Come today today, you're not interested, right because today is
- 11:29Speaker 5: a you know, a good day to come and see
- 11:31Speaker 5: the team. The weather is perfect, it's the last public
- 11:34Speaker 5: practice training camp, and you're playing against another team. I
- 11:38Speaker 5: don't you know, this is Paul, This is.
- 11:40Speaker 1: The perfect What really drove the crowd today the fact
- 11:43Speaker 1: that we're doing a lot now.
- 11:44Speaker 8: No.
- 11:44Speaker 1: No, it was our postgame show after the preseason when
- 11:47Speaker 1: I told people about the autograph signing with the opposing team.
- 11:52Speaker 1: You know, usually when when you have a joint practice,
- 11:55Speaker 1: the opposing team, the visiting team makes it a point
- 11:58Speaker 1: to have this star as signed because there's you know,
- 12:02Speaker 1: it's the best out of market marketing. That you can
- 12:05Speaker 1: do is have your star players show up and sign
- 12:10Speaker 1: for you know, the opposing crowd. Now, they they're like, wow,
- 12:14Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts, I was this close to them, and who
- 12:16Speaker 1: knows you could convert a fan. You know. So if
- 12:20Speaker 1: you're if you're down there and you're listening to us,
- 12:23Speaker 1: you're pretty much assured that you're gonna see a lot
- 12:25Speaker 1: of Eagles signing today.
- 12:29Speaker 4: Yeah, so you know, it's a it's kind of an
- 12:31Speaker 4: underrated rivalry. I mean, you know, it's not one that
- 12:33Speaker 4: gets talked about a lot. Of course, they met in
- 12:35Speaker 4: two Super Bowls, but I just remember so many back
- 12:37Speaker 4: and forth games with the Eagles over the years, no
- 12:39Speaker 4: matter who was kind of at quarterback for you know,
- 12:42Speaker 4: mostly it was Brady here, but you know, like the
- 12:44Speaker 4: Vince Young game, like you know, just I don't know that.
- 12:46Speaker 4: I always feel like they got a really good fan base.
- 12:49Speaker 8: Uh.
- 12:49Speaker 1: They've done a good job the last few years.
- 12:50Speaker 4: I mean it's hard not to look at their offensive
- 12:53Speaker 4: and defensive line and think, you know, yeah.
- 12:54Speaker 1: That's all we got to get. In terms of like
- 12:56Speaker 1: top down structure, I would equate them a lot to
- 12:59Speaker 1: the Patriots. Yeah, I think they have an owner who
- 13:01Speaker 1: was very savvy, media savvy, business savvy, and I think
- 13:06Speaker 1: he's run a really good team in Jeffrey Lurie. Yep.
- 13:08Speaker 1: And you know so I look at them kind of
- 13:12Speaker 1: like on the same level.
- 13:14Speaker 7: Yeah, for my money, I think Howie Roseman's the best
- 13:17Speaker 7: general manager in football. He's just excellent at his job,
- 13:21Speaker 7: like all avenues of adding talent, whether it's the draft, trades,
- 13:26Speaker 7: free agency. He does a fantastic job managing the cap.
- 13:30Speaker 7: He's he's really good at what he does. Now, some
- 13:32Speaker 7: of the drafting that he does is like looking at
- 13:35Speaker 7: duson I's big board and just picking guys from Georgia
- 13:38Speaker 7: and it ends up working out. But in general, I
- 13:41Speaker 7: feel like he's one of the best and most savvy
- 13:43Speaker 7: guys at getting as much talent on the roster as
- 13:46Speaker 7: possible and then obviously talent evaluation in the draft too.
- 13:50Speaker 7: They've been basically hitting home runs in the draft for
- 13:52Speaker 7: the last decade that he's been there, So they have
- 13:55Speaker 7: a great roster and he's a really good general manager.
- 13:58Speaker 7: Like you, you like this see Elliott Wolf take on
- 14:02Speaker 7: Howie Roseman sort of structure of how to acquire talent
- 14:06Speaker 7: and also, I think most importantly how to manage the
- 14:09Speaker 7: cap as well as one of the best in the
- 14:11Speaker 7: league at that too.
- 14:12Speaker 4: I think what you get jealous of is once you
- 14:14Speaker 4: start rolling with draft picks and you know, you hit
- 14:16Speaker 4: on guys on rookie deals, that it just frees you
- 14:19Speaker 4: up to the situation where, you know, like they were
- 14:22Speaker 4: able to take Jalen Carter, you know, who was kind
- 14:25Speaker 4: of thought to be a top kind of three guy
- 14:27Speaker 4: and then you know, falls a little bit and they're
- 14:28Speaker 4: able to take that kind of chance because they've you know,
- 14:31Speaker 4: drafted well and they're not, you know, trying to figure
- 14:33Speaker 4: out how to maneuver the cap constantly.
- 14:36Speaker 5: You know.
- 14:37Speaker 4: It's just I think once you get that cycle going,
- 14:39Speaker 4: it's a good place to be drafting talent, keep you
- 14:42Speaker 4: guys under rookie deals.
- 14:43Speaker 1: It's that's the ideal scenario.
- 14:44Speaker 7: They have that ability to just take some luxury picks
- 14:48Speaker 7: in the draft because their rosters is so well put
- 14:51Speaker 7: together that they don't need to reach for need, and
- 14:53Speaker 7: they also have the luxury to go out and in
- 14:55Speaker 7: pay guy like Sakuon Barkley. Like, I'm not normally someone
- 14:58Speaker 7: that advocates for paying running backs a whole of money.
- 15:00Speaker 7: But when you have a team like this that's not
- 15:02Speaker 7: taking away money from a different hole on the roster
- 15:06Speaker 7: that you're worried about, you have that ability to go
- 15:08Speaker 7: out and pay a running back like Barkley as like
- 15:10Speaker 7: a cherry on top kind of piece. So they have
- 15:12Speaker 7: an impressive roster and.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Guys want to go there to play.
- 15:15Speaker 5: You know, you got Jalen Hurts at quarterback, you got
- 15:17Speaker 5: a couple of receivers that are.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Really dynamic, and you know you can kind of fill
- 15:21Speaker 1: in the rest. So just like it's.
- 15:22Speaker 5: Sort of going to be an extended walm up period here.
- 15:25Speaker 5: Now Eagles on the right side of you know, from
- 15:29Speaker 5: our Vanda's point, Patriots on the left. Some walk through
- 15:32Speaker 5: periods before, you know, the calisthenics and whatnot, and Evan
- 15:37Speaker 5: and Mike talked about it. It's been you know, I'm
- 15:39Speaker 5: going to be curious to see the last time we
- 15:42Speaker 5: saw Philadelphia in a joint practice. It was Nick Sirianni's
- 15:45Speaker 5: first year, I think might have been his second year.
- 15:47Speaker 5: It was early in Sirianni's tenure. They did not spend
- 15:52Speaker 5: a tremendous amount of time practicing. It was a lot
- 15:55Speaker 5: of sort of preparation to the practice in the team periods.
- 16:00Speaker 5: I'm sort of intrigued by that schedule that you mapped out, Freddy,
- 16:04Speaker 5: of going all the way to twelve fifty I think
- 16:07Speaker 5: you said, yeah, you know, was that that would be
- 16:10Speaker 5: longer than either of.
- 16:11Speaker 1: The two days that we saw in Philly.
- 16:13Speaker 5: Now, I wonder if that has to do with there's
- 16:15Speaker 5: only one joint practice, so they're going to do a
- 16:17Speaker 5: little bit more today.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Than yeah, than they did. I did talk to somebody
- 16:20Speaker 1: from the Eagles before practice, and their practice have been running,
- 16:24Speaker 1: you know, anywhere from one hour and fifteen to ninety minutes. Yeah,
- 16:28Speaker 1: they don't have generally what Syrianni believed in. Yeah, they
- 16:30Speaker 1: don't have two hour practices. So this will be a
- 16:34Speaker 1: little bit of a departure for them. But like you said, Paul,
- 16:38Speaker 1: probably making up for lost time here. So right now
- 16:42Speaker 1: the Patriots, our cameras are on us. The Patriots are
- 16:44Speaker 1: doing a special team's walk through that they don't want film.
- 16:48Speaker 1: But the Eagles are doing more what uh offense? Yeah,
- 16:53Speaker 1: offense offense stuff with no no helmets.
- 16:56Speaker 5: I'm not a big fan of the no helmet no
- 16:58Speaker 5: portion of practice, sort of being critical of that with
- 17:03Speaker 5: the Patriots, I think they've done a lot of pre
- 17:04Speaker 5: practice work without helmets. I don't think you play without
- 17:06Speaker 5: a helmet, so I'm not necessarily sure why you would allow.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Them iron sharp iron, Paul, it's really hot practice, like player,
- 17:15Speaker 1: It's really not. It's a gorgeous day, it really is.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I mean, temperatures around mid seventies. It is sunny, so
- 17:23Speaker 1: it's hotter. You know, it's hot in the sun. But yeah,
- 17:25Speaker 1: no humidity. It's not like it was last week. I
- 17:28Speaker 1: got no, I got the windows open. It's starting to
- 17:30Speaker 1: get that August Air Freddy.
- 17:31Speaker 5: That's you know August there. Yeah, and I still crisp
- 17:35Speaker 5: littlely you can. You can smell fall come and.
- 17:37Speaker 4: Feel it football weather, right, yeah, right, let's put that
- 17:42Speaker 4: thought back and sorry, Paul mon No, nothing makes angry
- 17:46Speaker 4: than when you talk about the end of summer.
- 17:48Speaker 5: I hate the end of summer, which it was nine
- 17:51Speaker 5: months a year you moved to California.
- 17:53Speaker 7: I was about to say, there is in some places.
- 17:56Speaker 7: It is interesting though, with the with the Eagles, and
- 17:58Speaker 7: you know, Paul, you're talking about their their practice scripts
- 18:01Speaker 7: and stuff like that. When they hired Drod Mayo, I
- 18:04Speaker 7: kind of thought the Patriots were going to go in
- 18:05Speaker 7: that direction, and that has not been this summer at all.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Ye, kind of a hybrid though.
- 18:10Speaker 5: They do very little for a long time every day. Yeah,
- 18:14Speaker 5: but they always notes like actual practice.
- 18:18Speaker 7: I can't imagine the Eagles are in pads, what five
- 18:22Speaker 7: six days in a row, you know, like the Patriots
- 18:24Speaker 7: have been until yesterday, and just the live tackling to
- 18:29Speaker 7: the ground and like.
- 18:30Speaker 5: Five tackling to the ground absolutely was rare. That was Yeah,
- 18:33Speaker 5: that was something. I just feel like this has been
- 18:35Speaker 5: more physical this camp. And maybe some of it is
- 18:38Speaker 5: just guys are competing because it's a new regime and
- 18:41Speaker 5: you have to carve out new roles and new impressions
- 18:44Speaker 5: and things like that. But I feel like this has
- 18:46Speaker 5: been a much more physical, grueling camp than the last
- 18:50Speaker 5: couple with Bill have been. Yeah, I'm not sure that.
- 18:53Speaker 5: I'm not sure that they've been in pads more. I'm
- 18:55Speaker 5: not sure it's been more grueling. And they have a
- 18:58Speaker 5: day off every three days, which to me is rare.
- 19:01Speaker 5: That's been pretty much clockwork. They practiced three days, they
- 19:04Speaker 5: get a day off. I don't think it was like
- 19:08Speaker 5: that with Bill. I think there was four or five
- 19:11Speaker 5: days though, which is why I think that now to
- 19:14Speaker 5: Evan's point, I think that's allowed them to be in
- 19:16Speaker 5: pads maybe for another session or two then they were
- 19:19Speaker 5: a last year. I think they've been in pads two
- 19:20Speaker 5: more times this year than they were last year at
- 19:23Speaker 5: the same time of camp.
- 19:24Speaker 1: So that might be why.
- 19:26Speaker 5: You know, you go every three days, you get an
- 19:27Speaker 5: off day, you're back in pads.
- 19:32Speaker 4: So Matthew Jenones got some pads on, so we'll see
- 19:34Speaker 4: what his participation is like. That continues to just kind
- 19:39Speaker 4: of be a side story.
- 19:41Speaker 1: I guess that we're waiting to see. I don't know.
- 19:44Speaker 1: The more time that drags on, do you start to
- 19:45Speaker 1: wonder if they're.
- 19:46Speaker 5: You bring that up. There was a report yesterday, not
- 19:49Speaker 5: much in the report, but Jeremy Fowler of ESPN said
- 19:53Speaker 5: that there have been a number of inquiries as to
- 19:58Speaker 5: his availability, Matthew Judon's availability to the Patriots. So, you know,
- 20:04Speaker 5: I don't know if that's something that maybe Judon's side
- 20:06Speaker 5: puts out there that sort of say, see, you know
- 20:08Speaker 5: people want me. If you don't want me, there's other
- 20:10Speaker 5: people that want me.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I was wondering where that would come from, would
- 20:13Speaker 1: be my guess. Yeah, Cody is in North Charlotte, North Carolina,
- 20:18Speaker 1: but today he's here at practice and he said he
- 20:20Speaker 1: ran it to Mike du So and he got a
- 20:22Speaker 1: Patriots Unfiltered T shirt.
- 20:23Speaker 9: There you go, Good job dude, meet and you Cody,
- 20:25Speaker 9: good job being in ambassador.
- 20:27Speaker 1: And he he wants to know how much you can
- 20:28Speaker 1: pay us for everyone to sign it.
- 20:31Speaker 4: Oh well, uh, come back, come down by the interviews afterward.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Maybe we'll we'll get you.
- 20:37Speaker 4: But now it's good to see as funny as you
- 20:39Speaker 4: start giving the shirts out, and then all of a sudden,
- 20:41Speaker 4: you're like Duze, douze, you know, PU fans, And then
- 20:44Speaker 4: you get some people that clearly don't know what Patriots
- 20:47Speaker 4: Unfiltered are and they.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Just want a T shirt. And I'm like, well, not really,
- 20:50Speaker 1: it's important a show, but I guess I'll get you on.
- 20:52Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean you need to do like PU trivia
- 20:55Speaker 1: and if they passed the test, then they Yeah.
- 20:56Speaker 4: No, that's what I was thinking, And you know, I
- 20:58Speaker 4: was trying to think of like founding Fathers.
- 21:01Speaker 1: That's a good one. That's a good one.
- 21:02Speaker 5: You know.
- 21:03Speaker 4: I was thinking, like, what's Paul's drink A choice on
- 21:04Speaker 4: the show.
- 21:07Speaker 1: So was it called before Patriots Unfilter? That's a good one, yeah,
- 21:11Speaker 1: pu Trivia. Yeah, the world's original podcast fans, Yeah, fons
- 21:22Speaker 1: just for sure. It's the world's longest running podcast. That there.
- 21:27Speaker 1: That's that's a good way. That's not even a debate.
- 21:29Speaker 1: That's not even a debate. Fans are still streaming in.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I don't know where they're going to put them. I
- 21:34Speaker 1: know I see them starting to get onto the ramps.
- 21:39Speaker 4: So I gotta say, though, like remember when we were
- 21:42Speaker 4: at Eagles camp. I mean, they did have some stands,
- 21:44Speaker 4: but I think I think this is a lot more
- 21:47Speaker 4: conducive to this kind of practice than when we were
- 21:50Speaker 4: at that Eagles facility.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I mean we remember, me, you and.
- 21:52Speaker 4: Scal We're kind of like we were in like an
- 21:54Speaker 4: r V that there's an r V Clark. We couldn't
- 21:58Speaker 4: see anything except Joe Flacco coming to cut through to
- 22:01Speaker 4: use the porta potty like three times. It was like,
- 22:04Speaker 4: I don't know what's going on. There's places being made
- 22:06Speaker 4: down there. But but you had a glotle you neither
- 22:08Speaker 4: a couple of plays, Paul you recalled, I think was
- 22:09Speaker 4: it Dallas.
- 22:10Speaker 9: Goddard maybe j Are touchdown catching the end zone yeah, right,
- 22:15Speaker 9: and I remember thinking Hurts Hurts look good on the run,
- 22:18Speaker 9: but yeah, it didn't not so much. Yeah, but Goddard, Smith, Brown,
- 22:27Speaker 9: those guys, it's the big the big three for them.
- 22:30Speaker 5: I think you'll give you a warm up period now
- 22:32Speaker 5: for the Patriots anyway.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Start the stretching. So attendance wise pretty good. Just Henry,
- 22:40Speaker 1: just Hunter, Henry Is.
- 22:41Speaker 7: And obviously Napoo and Barmore. We're at the point where
- 22:46Speaker 7: those two guys will tell you when they're here, you.
- 22:48Speaker 4: Know, I know it's such a disappointment for Marty Maphu.
- 22:52Speaker 4: I mean, you got to look at Kyle Dugger and
- 22:53Speaker 4: Jabrill Peppers both signed extensions. I mean, when when did
- 22:57Speaker 4: Mapu get hurt? I don't mean, I don't even know
- 22:59Speaker 4: if he was out there for Pads right like it
- 23:01Speaker 4: was before Pads, I think, yeah, and he's just been
- 23:05Speaker 4: a man on an island out here. Unfortunate for him,
- 23:08Speaker 4: but opportunity for guys like Jalen Hawkins, I mean, even
- 23:11Speaker 4: Del Pattis, Josh Bledsoe, like those guys are probably gonna
- 23:14Speaker 4: get plenty of action here, both in the practice and
- 23:17Speaker 4: in the game.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Yeah, Patriots have their helmets off too, here.
- 23:20Speaker 5: Holoa was Patriots have had their helmets off a lot
- 23:23Speaker 5: doing this stuff, which I don't understand, but maybe that's
- 23:27Speaker 5: that's the new wave.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Down on the defensive side, they have their helmets on,
- 23:34Speaker 1: they're tougher. Yeah, so, I.
- 23:36Speaker 5: Don't know if you guys happened to catch that. There
- 23:38Speaker 5: were a couple of players that chose to wear the
- 23:40Speaker 5: Guardian Cats in the preseason games. Jonathan Taylor will probably
- 23:43Speaker 5: the highest profile guy.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. It seemed to me to be heavy.
- 23:50Speaker 4: No, yeah, well that's what uh looking at the paper
- 23:53Speaker 4: was talking about yesterday. Baker said it's it's kind of heavy,
- 23:57Speaker 4: and he didn't really love it.
- 23:58Speaker 1: But yeah, I don't know.
- 24:02Speaker 4: I mean, I don't love the aesthetics of it, but
- 24:03Speaker 4: if if it, I just I feel like there's so
- 24:06Speaker 4: much murky research about it that, you know, the NFL
- 24:09Speaker 4: is trumpeting how much it works, and then I'm also
- 24:11Speaker 4: seeing people trumpeting that, no, it doesn't work.
- 24:13Speaker 5: You'll have to forgive me if I'm not just gonna
- 24:15Speaker 5: take the point of fel that these are safer.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Right, but they should look dumb. But we're gonna do well,
- 24:22Speaker 1: nothing nothing stops the movement of the brain on a
- 24:25Speaker 1: sudden stop or hit. You can have all the padding
- 24:28Speaker 1: you want on the outside, but the brain is still
- 24:30Speaker 1: moving on the inside. So it's it's just one of
- 24:34Speaker 1: those things. Like I mean, I.
- 24:36Speaker 5: Don't know TJ was getting his hemet ready for practice
- 24:39Speaker 5: on Fridays because he hasn't had it on for a while.
- 24:41Speaker 1: So it takes just.
- 24:42Speaker 5: Walking around the house to about half off.
- 24:44Speaker 4: Yeah, get that off, you get those neck muscles engaged.
- 24:47Speaker 5: You just gotta get ready.
- 24:48Speaker 1: But you mentioned that, no, no joke, duce. I think
- 24:52Speaker 1: that's the biggest preventive exercise you can do, is strengthening
- 24:58Speaker 1: your neck muscles. Sure, because you see so many guys
- 25:01Speaker 1: that hit the ground and then the head just flops,
- 25:03Speaker 1: and and then you see other guys that have, you know,
- 25:07Speaker 1: built up that neck muscle where you know the head
- 25:09Speaker 1: doesn't hit the ground. Yeah, it's it's really important to
- 25:13Speaker 1: build up those neck muscles, you know, so when when
- 25:16Speaker 1: you do hit the ground, your your head doesn't just flop.
- 25:19Speaker 4: They should do a neck time lapse on Devin mccordy,
- 25:22Speaker 4: because I feel like he's like a prime example of
- 25:24Speaker 4: like an NFL veteran who, yeah, clearly focused on the
- 25:28Speaker 4: neck yeah, I think his next gone down though maybe
- 25:31Speaker 4: you ask about that on the preseason.
- 25:34Speaker 7: You also hear about guys like Tua, I know, did this,
- 25:37Speaker 7: and it was pretty well documented that they had guys
- 25:39Speaker 7: that were learning how to fall. Yeah, like there's special
- 25:44Speaker 7: there's actual coaches like that that coach this, obviously away
- 25:48Speaker 7: from the facility, but they teach you when you're going down,
- 25:51Speaker 7: you know how to properly brace yourself for the fall,
- 25:54Speaker 7: and yeah, you know different things and and that the
- 25:57Speaker 7: the Dolphins have worked really hard with that with Tua
- 26:00Speaker 7: to avoid injuries, you know, especially concussions, but other injuries too,
- 26:04Speaker 7: and it seemed like it had worked for the time
- 26:07Speaker 7: being and then.
- 26:08Speaker 1: He got hurt again.
- 26:08Speaker 5: So I don't know how much it really mattered.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Back in my wrestling days, we used to do a
- 26:13Speaker 1: thing called neck bridging, and you would line in your
- 26:16Speaker 1: back and you'd arch you back and you go. It's
- 26:18Speaker 1: almost like push ups with your neck from your back,
- 26:22Speaker 1: and that's how you would strengthen your neck.
- 26:24Speaker 4: You think you could do one of those now, Freddy,
- 26:25Speaker 4: I think.
- 26:26Speaker 1: So I was working.
- 26:29Speaker 5: This is something like yoga, you.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Know, I was working. It's kind of I was working
- 26:32Speaker 1: in my backyard and I was going down the ramp
- 26:34Speaker 1: from the shed and it was this rainy day and
- 26:37Speaker 1: I my feet came out from under me, and boy
- 26:39Speaker 1: did I hit hard, but my neck, my head did
- 26:42Speaker 1: not hit the ground. And I owe it to those
- 26:46Speaker 1: wrestling days. Did you have your single it on too?
- 26:49Speaker 1: Is that part of the underneath? Yeah? I always when
- 26:51Speaker 1: I your lawn work, I always put the thing out
- 26:53Speaker 1: of underneath because it's a it's a secure feeling, you know,
- 26:58Speaker 1: everything tight, Yeah, everything together, which I need tights. It's
- 27:06Speaker 1: the required uniform. Okay, thank you? All right? So, uh,
- 27:09Speaker 1: the Eagles, I was gonna say, falcon is another bird. Uh.
- 27:14Speaker 1: The Eagles are doing this. They're stretching right now. Patriots
- 27:17Speaker 1: is still doing their ravens, their unit drills. Yeah, same
- 27:21Speaker 1: offensive line.
- 27:22Speaker 4: It looks like, uh, you know, it does seem like
- 27:24Speaker 4: two and three right now are the top options at
- 27:27Speaker 4: wide receiver.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I don't know if that's gonna hold.
- 27:30Speaker 4: And I think to me, Baker and Baker and Polk.
- 27:34Speaker 4: First just got to say some of these rookies in
- 27:36Speaker 4: the past receivers couldn't stay healthy.
- 27:38Speaker 5: Those guys have been out here every day at training camp.
- 27:40Speaker 5: I mean, same with Wallace just.
- 27:42Speaker 4: Anytime rookies can be healthy and yep, reps every day,
- 27:45Speaker 4: it's a good sign. But you know, I look at
- 27:46Speaker 4: those two guys, and then and then Borne and Osbourne
- 27:49Speaker 4: and Douglas.
- 27:50Speaker 1: I mean there's five.
- 27:51Speaker 4: It's just I think where I struggle is how to
- 27:53Speaker 4: really suss out Booty and Riager And they kind of
- 27:56Speaker 4: look alike, and they kind of play similar roles, and
- 27:59Speaker 4: maybe riger has a.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Little bit more special teams. Uh. Plus, you know, Booty
- 28:04Speaker 1: seems confident.
- 28:05Speaker 8: I expected he outright said it at his press conference.
- 28:10Speaker 8: He has no doubt in his mind that he's going
- 28:11Speaker 8: to make the roster.
- 28:13Speaker 1: He's supposed to say. I think I'm going to be.
- 28:18Speaker 8: Usually you say I'm working hard every day, Like that's
- 28:21Speaker 8: I'm not used to someone you're saying that.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Usually guys don't outright now that they usually avoid.
- 28:27Speaker 7: I don't know, you gotta be a little cocky to
- 28:29Speaker 7: play CB wide receiver. But I'd also throw Taekwon in there.
- 28:33Speaker 1: I just forgot forget the best out of that game
- 28:38Speaker 1: with the first.
- 28:38Speaker 7: Group, But they're in their eleven personal I don't want
- 28:41Speaker 7: to Completelyn't bail at all. But he was in there,
- 28:44Speaker 7: and I just between him and Rakers, somebody's got to
- 28:48Speaker 7: bring some speed on the outside. And and that's the
- 28:50Speaker 7: one thing I feel like that's holding Booty back is
- 28:52Speaker 7: that there's redundancy to the roster with other guys that
- 28:55Speaker 7: are on the team already, Kendrick Bourne, kJ Osborne, Polk Baker,
- 28:59Speaker 7: they're all kind of similar to Kaishan Booty, whereas maybe
- 29:04Speaker 7: Taekwon hasn't been quite as available or quite as consistent
- 29:07Speaker 7: out here as as a guy like Booty. But he's different. Yeah,
- 29:12Speaker 7: he just plays a different style and that does matter. Like,
- 29:16Speaker 7: you can't have a team of all centers, right, Like
- 29:18Speaker 7: you gotta have some guys that handle the ball and
- 29:20Speaker 7: some guys that play on the wing, and like you
- 29:22Speaker 7: have to build a basketball team almost in those groupings,
- 29:26Speaker 7: you know, wide receiver and cornerback are often looked at
- 29:29Speaker 7: that way. So if you have a guy like Taekwon
- 29:32Speaker 7: and Reger, to me, are bolls fighting for the same spot.
- 29:36Speaker 8: I feel like Rigor has the upper hand. And when
- 29:38Speaker 8: it comes to those two, one because of his availability
- 29:41Speaker 8: and two because of his ability to also play on
- 29:43Speaker 8: special teams as a returner. So that's where I'm leaning
- 29:46Speaker 8: more towards Reger. I feel like he's been more consistent.
- 29:48Speaker 8: He hasn't had a ton of drops, and he's been
- 29:51Speaker 8: here every single day versus Thornton.
- 29:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I just balanced that out with the fact that
- 29:55Speaker 5: Thornton's a guy you took him the second round two
- 29:57Speaker 5: years ago.
- 29:57Speaker 1: He's on our rookie deal. I mean, Rager has bounced
- 30:00Speaker 1: around a little bit.
- 30:01Speaker 4: So I mean it's you know, there's no question got
- 30:04Speaker 4: to get typwon Thornton out there and get him consistent,
- 30:06Speaker 4: but you know, real quick, just the thing I want
- 30:08Speaker 4: to point out, like the difference between NFL training staffs,
- 30:10Speaker 4: Like I haven't seen the Patriots sit down and stretch.
- 30:13Speaker 4: I don't remember maybe my first year here, but they
- 30:15Speaker 4: are always walking and doing their stretching.
- 30:17Speaker 1: The Eagles, you know, doing it a different way.
- 30:20Speaker 4: I always just find it interesting that NFL teams are
- 30:23Speaker 4: on the cutting edge of sports science and everything, and
- 30:25Speaker 4: yet teams still kind of approach warm ups and stretching differently.
- 30:28Speaker 1: At a lot of ways of ways to stretch the
- 30:31Speaker 1: body out. I guess Scott and Virginia talking about kishon booty.
- 30:34Speaker 1: I think Evan answered that question he wanted to know
- 30:36Speaker 1: what his chances of making the squad I think so far.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Thumbs up on Poke as a second round pick, right, Yeah, I.
- 30:44Speaker 5: Did insistent I didn't love his tape against Carolina.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:49Speaker 7: I feel like in some of this is is the
- 30:51Speaker 7: UW offense like that Washington offense. You don't run routes
- 30:54Speaker 7: like you're just running into space. A lot of it's vertical.
- 30:58Speaker 7: They don't really do a whole lot of the first
- 31:00Speaker 7: and second level in terms of row detail. So some
- 31:03Speaker 7: of that stuff is I still think of work in
- 31:05Speaker 7: progress for him that I still don't see a big
- 31:08Speaker 7: time separator. I guess it is like the simplest way
- 31:11Speaker 7: of putting it. And yeah, I like the third down
- 31:13Speaker 7: catch he made against the Panthers was nice to get
- 31:15Speaker 7: strong hands.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Box the guy. Uh, strong hand.
- 31:18Speaker 4: It's nice, but it's not what it exactly throttling down
- 31:23Speaker 4: on the routes like that. There's just not a sudden
- 31:25Speaker 4: like you know, that kind of cut ability that that creates.
- 31:29Speaker 4: You know, let's face it, very like my separation in
- 31:32Speaker 4: the NFL is very small, but that those are that's
- 31:35Speaker 4: where a lot of it's made.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Uh.
- 31:36Speaker 4: And I feel kind of similarly about Forton, like for
- 31:39Speaker 4: as tall for as fast as he is straight line,
- 31:42Speaker 4: he's not a sudden, boom cut guy.
- 31:44Speaker 1: He kind of gathers. Yeah, you know, it's it's there's
- 31:47Speaker 1: a lot of limbs. It's yeah, he's not quick.
- 31:50Speaker 5: Yeah, it's uh, well behind the defense on his deep run.
- 31:55Speaker 4: That's fat well, yeah, like fat like down the field,
- 31:56Speaker 4: That's what I mean. It's just at the time he's
- 31:58Speaker 4: got to go sideways.
- 31:59Speaker 7: It's it's you know, it's not yeah, I'm not losing it,
- 32:01Speaker 7: and I'm not like out on Jalen Polk or anything
- 32:04Speaker 7: like that. But you know, Paul and I have kind
- 32:05Speaker 7: of been on the same side of the street here
- 32:07Speaker 7: with him. It's just I just don't typically love those
- 32:11Speaker 7: types of receivers that are playing in a phone booth
- 32:13Speaker 7: all the time and they're always in congestion or in traffic.
- 32:17Speaker 7: You know, I just feel like when I watch him play,
- 32:20Speaker 7: especially you know, in terms of the details of his routes,
- 32:22Speaker 7: like the stem in particular, he's gonna have to be
- 32:25Speaker 7: a little bit more crafty and a little bit more
- 32:29Speaker 7: just sudden and quick and crafty in those stems to
- 32:31Speaker 7: get guys. You know, guys are just sitting on the
- 32:33Speaker 7: underneath stuff with him, and he's got to find an
- 32:36Speaker 7: element of some sort of take the top off the defense.
- 32:39Speaker 5: And I do like I I like the like the
- 32:44Speaker 5: overall skill set, and I think even in the game,
- 32:47Speaker 5: I agree with Evan that he didn't create much separation,
- 32:49Speaker 5: but he made tough, strong catches in traffic and I'm
- 32:53Speaker 5: like pretty much everybody else early on in that game
- 32:55Speaker 5: he was catching the ball. But I would like it
- 32:58Speaker 5: better if they didn't have And you guys just mentioned
- 33:01Speaker 5: this when you were going over the depth chart at receiver.
- 33:04Speaker 5: I think they have a number of guys that kind
- 33:06Speaker 5: of I think Booty is a similar kind of player,
- 33:10Speaker 5: you know, the less size, But yeah, they have guys
- 33:13Speaker 5: that can sort of win in small areas and be physical.
- 33:17Speaker 5: They don't have a lot of game breaking kind of guys.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Oh, you're talking about a wide receiver one.
- 33:22Speaker 5: I'm just talking about a skill set. Like Raager has
- 33:24Speaker 5: a different skill set. He's not a wide receiver one,
- 33:27Speaker 5: but he can run.
- 33:28Speaker 1: You can run.
- 33:29Speaker 5: They don't feel like they don't have a guy who's
- 33:31Speaker 5: really good and can run.
- 33:32Speaker 1: Yeah, the only guy that they.
- 33:34Speaker 7: Have that's supposed to that is Pop, and we know
- 33:36Speaker 7: Pop's limitations with his size and his durability. Yeah, he's
- 33:40Speaker 7: the only one that moves differently than other guys on
- 33:43Speaker 7: the field offensively to me. And I just don't look
- 33:46Speaker 7: at Polk and say that he moves differently like that's
- 33:50Speaker 7: that's a dynamic athlete. He just is a really you know,
- 33:54Speaker 7: strong football players and that's okay, but it's just not dynamic.
- 33:58Speaker 5: I will say one thing for him on a pause
- 34:00Speaker 5: in a note to finish from from my perspective, is
- 34:02Speaker 5: I think he's been really consistent. Yes, I think he's
- 34:05Speaker 5: been He's been out there every day. He competes every day.
- 34:09Speaker 5: He catches the ball every day, whereas I think Baker
- 34:13Speaker 5: flashes here and there, and I think he has gotten
- 34:17Speaker 5: kind of progressively more invisible as camp has worn on.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I agree with what you just said,
- 34:22Speaker 1: Paul about Pope. You know, Jacoby Myers wasn't a second
- 34:27Speaker 1: round pick. But it's like that. He's he's consistent. He
- 34:31Speaker 1: catches the ball when it comes to him, you know.
- 34:34Speaker 5: And yeah, I just would like to see him catch
- 34:35Speaker 5: the ball further away from the lasts Immich once in
- 34:38Speaker 5: the last.
- 34:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and you've got to call those plays, give him
- 34:41Speaker 1: a chance.
- 34:41Speaker 5: He has to get open on those points. Yeah, I
- 34:43Speaker 5: think that's what we're talking about.
- 34:44Speaker 7: Jacoby got a lot better as a route runner too,
- 34:47Speaker 7: as his career progressed to the point where like he's
- 34:50Speaker 7: playing with you know, like three D chess on a
- 34:52Speaker 7: lot of routes at that stage of his career, where
- 34:55Speaker 7: whereas what I see with Jalen Polk is like, all right,
- 34:58Speaker 7: the guy's playing eight eight r it's off the line
- 35:00Speaker 7: of scrimmage, and you you stop down on your break
- 35:04Speaker 7: like three yards in front of him, like there's no
- 35:06Speaker 7: reason for him to get back on his horse.
- 35:08Speaker 1: But that that that's that kind of stem, you know,
- 35:11Speaker 1: the offense that they used to have. Do they have
- 35:14Speaker 1: that now where they where the receiver can make that choice? Yeah,
- 35:18Speaker 1: and they do.
- 35:19Speaker 7: But you know, even if it's a locked route, like
- 35:21Speaker 7: he's running an in cut, you know in the game
- 35:23Speaker 7: last week, and the guy's off of him and he
- 35:25Speaker 7: never gets the defensive back to back up, right, defensive
- 35:29Speaker 7: back's just sitting there the whole time waiting for him
- 35:31Speaker 7: to run the break. And it's like, if you're gonna
- 35:33Speaker 7: run that against off coverage, you need to get his
- 35:35Speaker 7: hips open so that when you break, he's then got
- 35:37Speaker 7: to switch his hips and get back up field. That's
- 35:40Speaker 7: what craates the underneath separation with him in the game.
- 35:43Speaker 7: It's like he wasn't here. There's no tests, like there's
- 35:45Speaker 7: no conflict in the defender's mind that he's gonna run
- 35:49Speaker 7: by him, and so he's just sitting there waiting for
- 35:51Speaker 7: him to run the brake and then he jumps it
- 35:53Speaker 7: like that. That's the little things that you know, Uh,
- 35:56Speaker 7: Tyler Hughes, Taekwan Underwood, like those guys got to coach.
- 35:59Speaker 1: Him on what's what's his cone numbers?
- 36:03Speaker 7: Okay, not not anything crazy, but to me, it's more
- 36:07Speaker 7: about like what he was doing in college and how
- 36:10Speaker 7: that college style offense that they're running at Washington is
- 36:13Speaker 7: so different than what you're gonna do in the NFL.
- 36:16Speaker 7: You know, in Washington they're there are four verds, they're
- 36:19Speaker 7: running into zones like they're they're not necessarily doing these
- 36:22Speaker 7: like detailed oriented type of stuff. So I'm confident that
- 36:25Speaker 7: he can develop it. I just don't see it with
- 36:27Speaker 7: him yet.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Teams are still warming up Ron and Conway. New Hampshire
- 36:32Speaker 1: says he had all the answers to duces trivia. Paul's
- 36:35Speaker 1: favorite pick is a two leader diet Pepsi. The founders
- 36:39Speaker 1: were Fred and Paul and it was originally called Patriots
- 36:42Speaker 1: Football Weekly. No, that's incorrect. It was not called Patriots
- 36:45Speaker 1: Football Weekly. That was the name of the newspaper, but
- 36:48Speaker 1: the show was called PFW in Progress.
- 36:51Speaker 5: So you have kept that a secret. And I would
- 36:53Speaker 5: also say that we weren't the only founders. We have
- 36:56Speaker 5: to put Brian more in more that's true.
- 36:58Speaker 4: How about a Tamara's favorite TV show?
- 37:00Speaker 1: That's a good one.
- 37:01Speaker 5: Oh, that's a good one, you know, right? And favorite movie?
- 37:05Speaker 1: Favorite movie? Well? Favorite? Can I give you the favorite movie?
- 37:10Speaker 5: You do?
- 37:11Speaker 1: You have to run the darn ball?
- 37:15Speaker 5: Okay, yeah, I should have gotten that. You're right, I
- 37:19Speaker 5: should have got.
- 37:20Speaker 1: I didn't do it with the southern twang.
- 37:23Speaker 4: Cooper g alright, go yeah, oh yeah, So Cooper de
- 37:28Speaker 4: Jean a little bit eagle Sky. That was kind of
- 37:31Speaker 4: he was the punch line of if Bill was here
- 37:33Speaker 4: last year, who would he have drafted in that? Uh,
- 37:36Speaker 4: he's right in that mold of a versatile defensive back
- 37:38Speaker 4: who highly athletic.
- 37:40Speaker 5: He's known for a lot of different things.
- 37:42Speaker 7: Yeah, Bill on the On the Draft Show, when could
- 37:44Speaker 7: they drafted Cooper de Jean, the pants are off. He
- 37:47Speaker 7: was like, this guy plays everywhere. He can play safety,
- 37:50Speaker 7: he can play slot, he can play outside, play special teams.
- 37:54Speaker 1: Did you did you catch the weapon punting for the
- 37:56Speaker 1: Panthers on Thursday Johnny Hecker the well.
- 38:00Speaker 5: Did you see when he made a tackle he gave
- 38:01Speaker 5: the too small side. He's dropped off a little bit. Oh,
- 38:05Speaker 5: he was terrible in that game. Yeah, I'm looking forward
- 38:09Speaker 5: to seeing our wide receivers versus Quentyan.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Mitchell, Yeah, Darius Sligh and and I wasn't in a C. J.
- 38:17Speaker 4: Gardner Johnson. He's a little feisty too, right, Like I
- 38:20Speaker 4: feel like, yeah, that's what I was thinking. Like, I'm like,
- 38:22Speaker 4: if there's anybody who's going to be in the middle
- 38:24Speaker 4: of it, it's probably gonna be that guy.
- 38:27Speaker 8: I feel like the person you would have to look
- 38:28Speaker 8: out for in the situation is like Baker. Yeah, I
- 38:31Speaker 8: could I could see I could see Baker chirping.
- 38:34Speaker 4: Oh he's he's he's got to keep it under wraps.
- 38:36Speaker 4: But hey, you know who I want to talk about
- 38:37Speaker 4: real quick is I forgot about Shaqeen Bell Jaquem Bell.
- 38:44Speaker 4: He's heard a while, he's come back he's been easing
- 38:46Speaker 4: his way in. I think when he have one catch
- 38:49Speaker 4: yesterday the other night, Yeah, and he had a touchdown yesterday.
- 38:52Speaker 1: And I don't know. I just you've seen eighty seven
- 38:54Speaker 1: get a lot of snaps. Which one is that? Now?
- 38:57Speaker 1: Is that still so called let's jack of my te
- 39:02Speaker 1: three at eighty seven? But I don't know. I'm just
- 39:05Speaker 1: intrigued by him.
- 39:06Speaker 4: I thought, he, you know, has some movement skills and
- 39:08Speaker 4: you know, some quickness and some you know, decent size
- 39:11Speaker 4: and you know, we just go back to Elliot Wolf
- 39:13Speaker 4: talking about we want to play the young guys. And
- 39:15Speaker 4: when you're looking at making roster cutdowns, it's, you know,
- 39:19Speaker 4: is are you going to keep a TE three just
- 39:21Speaker 4: to block somebody? Or you know, do you hang on
- 39:24Speaker 4: to a seventh round pick who's got some athletic upside
- 39:26Speaker 4: that you know, who knows might be able to help
- 39:29Speaker 4: this offense that you know clearly still looking for answers
- 39:31Speaker 4: in a number of different places.
- 39:32Speaker 5: And I think that's the answer to the question, which
- 39:35Speaker 5: one do they want? Because I don't think Henry O.
- 39:38Speaker 5: Hooper offers much as a physical presence. So do you
- 39:41Speaker 5: want to keep Bill Cox because he can block or
- 39:44Speaker 5: do you just say, well, we don't really have a
- 39:46Speaker 5: traditional blocking tight end. This guy's younger and more athletic.
- 39:51Speaker 5: Let's go with Bell. I personally would go with Bell.
- 39:53Speaker 5: Now I've seen absolutely nothing from Bell and Kim yep, no,
- 39:56Speaker 5: I know that because he hasn't been out here enough
- 39:59Speaker 5: to make it impression. But I personally would rather go
- 40:02Speaker 5: with an athletic guy who might potentially have a higher ceiling.
- 40:06Speaker 4: Yeah, and I'd also say, I mean Willcox it drops excluded,
- 40:09Speaker 4: which there have been a few, like to way too many.
- 40:11Speaker 4: But is he really a te three that moves the
- 40:14Speaker 4: needle as a you know, like wouldn't I'd just rather
- 40:16Speaker 4: keep a third tackle and you know, make it Kayden
- 40:19Speaker 4: Wallace if he's not starting.
- 40:21Speaker 7: If they had one of those, yeah, yeah they will.
- 40:23Speaker 7: Coox to me, has struggled in all faces. Yes, So
- 40:26Speaker 7: I'm really not trying to like rack up the guy.
- 40:29Speaker 7: But even blocking in the game I thought was rough
- 40:33Speaker 7: for him. You know, he misses the sif while coming across.
- 40:38Speaker 7: That's a one yard run for Antonio Gibson. Then he
- 40:40Speaker 7: gets called for a hold. You know, runner bounces outside
- 40:43Speaker 7: off his hip and he gets called for a hold.
- 40:46Speaker 7: There I just I don't really see it with will
- 40:49Speaker 7: Cox being an NFL player. So if if I'm the Patriots,
- 40:53Speaker 7: I'm trusting the scout with Jahane Bell.
- 40:55Speaker 1: Like you got to. He's got this player in the draft.
- 40:59Speaker 7: He hasn't been able to participate in the summer yet
- 41:01Speaker 7: at the level that you wanted him to. But just
- 41:03Speaker 7: trust what you saw, you know, in college, and roll
- 41:06Speaker 7: with that. Now, what about the other two guys we
- 41:08Speaker 7: haven't really talked about.
- 41:09Speaker 1: I mean, that way is out there a lot.
- 41:11Speaker 4: I mean, they run a lot of three stuff and
- 41:13Speaker 4: with Hunter Henry's been out, they've had you know, they've
- 41:15Speaker 4: had those guys out there with some of the.
- 41:17Speaker 5: Quote unquote talk groups.
- 41:19Speaker 4: I just think it's a signal that they definitely want to,
- 41:22Speaker 4: you know, have some three tight end packages that they're
- 41:24Speaker 4: going to use this year. And I guess that then
- 41:26Speaker 4: goes back to the question of you know, are you
- 41:28Speaker 4: are you looking for a guy like Bell who can
- 41:30Speaker 4: maybe move the needle a little bit athletically, maybe gives
- 41:32Speaker 4: you you know, I know, Austin Hooper's been pretty good
- 41:34Speaker 4: in camp, but one year deal veteran kind of a
- 41:36Speaker 4: guy would love to maybe groom a guy like Bell
- 41:39Speaker 4: behind him to to you know, be that air apparent
- 41:42Speaker 4: as a as a tight end behind Hunter Henry.
- 41:44Speaker 7: Yeah, Michael Petaway, I keep calling Peedaway Michael Petway reminds
- 41:47Speaker 7: me a little bit of Jeene Bell, Like I feel
- 41:50Speaker 7: like he's got a similar body type. Not necessarily someone
- 41:53Speaker 7: who's gonna put his hand in the dirt and like
- 41:54Speaker 7: dig people out, but like can move around and block
- 41:56Speaker 7: in space and block on the move. I to me, like,
- 42:01Speaker 7: why would you keep the older player? But in that instance,
- 42:04Speaker 7: like why didn't you just keep the younger one? But
- 42:06Speaker 7: I do think those guys have some similarities to each other.
- 42:10Speaker 7: James Belt might be a little bit bigger, a little
- 42:12Speaker 7: taller if I had to just looking at them right now.
- 42:16Speaker 7: But I just feel like their skill sets are pretty
- 42:19Speaker 7: pretty overlapping.
- 42:24Speaker 4: I hope Eagles are cool with the playlist today. Is
- 42:26Speaker 4: that maybe we have discussed that I want make Collapped
- 42:30Speaker 4: on it.
- 42:32Speaker 8: I think we're only going to hear hip hop today.
- 42:34Speaker 8: No Metallica, no whatever was playing yesterday and run the.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Country to run.
- 42:39Speaker 5: I had to explained Nirvana to Evan this is called
- 42:41Speaker 5: smells like team spirit, Evan, this is grunge and it's.
- 42:43Speaker 1: Like anybody by the name of Brownie ring a belt
- 42:46Speaker 1: to you. Oh yeah, it's my college roommate. He's writing it.
- 42:49Speaker 1: He wants to get an audio clip of you saying
- 42:51Speaker 1: that Howie Roseman is the best GM in football.
- 42:55Speaker 7: Shout out Brownie him in my roommate Jamie there there
- 43:00Speaker 7: both from Philadelphia, in the Wayne, Pennsylvania area, right around
- 43:04Speaker 7: King of Prussia. And they are our giant Giant Eagles.
- 43:08Speaker 7: Fins to catch that they all twenty two flys fly.
- 43:13Speaker 7: I heard go birds for four straight years, every single
- 43:16Speaker 7: Sunday in the fall.
- 43:17Speaker 1: I hope you weren't in college in twenty seventeen though
- 43:20Speaker 1: I was. No, I wasn't.
- 43:22Speaker 5: I was out of college at that point.
- 43:24Speaker 1: I was in college.
- 43:25Speaker 7: There was maybe one game Pat's Eagles Chip Kelly j Yeah,
- 43:31Speaker 7: and then I was in college for the Malcolm Butler
- 43:34Speaker 7: Super Bowl and in the second Giant Super Bowl. So
- 43:38Speaker 7: they saw me win and lose the Super Bowl in college.
- 43:41Speaker 7: Very different reactions to those.
- 43:45Speaker 1: Well, Will Wrights in I just watched the replay of
- 43:48Speaker 1: the Thursday game against the Panthers. If the Patriots don't
- 43:51Speaker 1: give Joe Milton an adequate opportunity to prove what he
- 43:54Speaker 1: could do at the pro level, they are doomed to
- 43:56Speaker 1: repeat the same missteps they've made since the departure of
- 43:59Speaker 1: the vote. They should not be afraid to repeat the
- 44:02Speaker 1: Bledsoe Brady scenario.
- 44:05Speaker 4: I'm not afraid to do it. I just like I
- 44:07Speaker 4: think it's a great thing for the team that you
- 44:08Speaker 4: have a young quarterback with helm. I just question is
- 44:11Speaker 4: what did you see from Joe Milton in that game
- 44:14Speaker 4: that makes you so sure that he that he's an
- 44:17Speaker 4: untapped gem right now?
- 44:18Speaker 5: So I'm not even going to talk about the game,
- 44:21Speaker 5: but I'm going to ask a comparison. Did you think
- 44:23Speaker 5: that the Patriots were afraid last year like they were
- 44:28Speaker 5: guilty of being afraid of letting Malik Hunningham play. Do
- 44:32Speaker 5: you think that was part of it, Like they didn't
- 44:33Speaker 5: want to admit that the the undrafted guy was better
- 44:36Speaker 5: than now?
- 44:37Speaker 1: No, I don't think.
- 44:38Speaker 5: I just think they analyze the guys, they evaluate, and
- 44:43Speaker 5: they go off of what they see.
- 44:44Speaker 8: Yeah, Like I also think who he was out there
- 44:47Speaker 8: playing against, Like the Panthers started the game with their backup,
- 44:50Speaker 8: So by that point that.
- 44:51Speaker 5: Milton was in who was he actually playing against? I
- 44:54Speaker 5: was he needs to chill out? I don't like chill out.
- 44:56Speaker 5: I just wouldn't want to, like go back and look
- 44:58Speaker 5: at what he did. Like his handles a snapper, he
- 45:00Speaker 5: runs around twenty yards behind the line of scrimmage with
- 45:03Speaker 5: his back, you know, to the defense, and he like
- 45:06Speaker 5: just runs away from it, like.
- 45:07Speaker 4: Almost throws a pick six. It's a wide open guy
- 45:09Speaker 4: on a double move. That's like, yeah, it's fine. I
- 45:12Speaker 4: don't the touchdown.
- 45:13Speaker 5: I want to give him a lot of credit on though,
- 45:15Speaker 5: because everybody just keeps saying he was wide open. Part
- 45:18Speaker 5: of the reason he was wide open was because of him.
- 45:20Speaker 5: Milton did a really good job of looking at Now
- 45:23Speaker 5: the cornerback was awful on the play, calm, but he
- 45:27Speaker 5: eliminated the safety with his eyes on his shoulders and
- 45:30Speaker 5: then kind of came back again. The cornerback blows the play,
- 45:33Speaker 5: blows the coverage. But I want to give Milton credit
- 45:36Speaker 5: for the touchdown pass because I think he did everything right.
- 45:40Speaker 1: On that play. Yeah, yeah, don't. I don't want to
- 45:42Speaker 1: gloss over that. He did exactly what we thought he
- 45:44Speaker 1: was going to do, and it came in and he
- 45:46Speaker 1: added some excitement to the game.
- 45:48Speaker 5: Ye I would have thought he would have looked better
- 45:49Speaker 5: than that. To be honest with you, I would have
- 45:51Speaker 5: thought that it would have been smoother than that.
- 45:53Speaker 1: No, and I mean talking to thatvan yesterday. I mean
- 45:55Speaker 1: like he's shown improvement.
- 45:56Speaker 4: And again, like, I don't think it's a bad thing
- 45:58Speaker 4: to have another quarterback on the Like, I don't care
- 46:01Speaker 4: who wins the next Patriots Super Bowl as quarterback.
- 46:03Speaker 1: I just want to win.
- 46:05Speaker 5: Great And I'm all on the Joe Milton fan west.
- 46:07Speaker 4: Yeah, but we came out of that game on Thursday
- 46:10Speaker 4: night and Joe Milton didn't get a single rep. Like,
- 46:12Speaker 4: the coaching staff is telling us collectively that Drake May
- 46:16Speaker 4: is our guy. He's the future, He's the one we're
- 46:18Speaker 4: investing in right now, and as we can slowly develop
- 46:21Speaker 4: Joe Milton, if he gets it, great, He's an asset,
- 46:23Speaker 4: he's a backup, he's insurance. And those are all wonderful
- 46:26Speaker 4: things to have. But listen to what the coaching staff
- 46:29Speaker 4: is telling it. You not you know a bunch of
- 46:31Speaker 4: media members or fans who watch three plays in a
- 46:34Speaker 4: preseason game and say, oh my god, this is the answer.
- 46:36Speaker 1: I think I think a lot of fans think, oh, well,
- 46:39Speaker 1: they drafted May and you know, three overall, they have
- 46:42Speaker 1: to protect that otherwise, you know, they get proven wrong.
- 46:45Speaker 1: Let me tell you something, winning is more important than that.
- 46:48Speaker 1: If they think that Joe Milton is a better quarterback,
- 46:51Speaker 1: Joe Milton will play.
- 46:52Speaker 5: And if and if Joe Milton is a better quarterback,
- 46:54Speaker 5: I don't think there are people around here that are
- 46:56Speaker 5: going to say, well, that's no good.
- 46:57Speaker 1: I know, forget it. I don't want it. I'd rather
- 46:59Speaker 1: lose with you. Joe Bilton deserves to play.
- 47:01Speaker 7: I wanted to make it's not exactly apples to apples
- 47:04Speaker 7: because in the situations that you teams are in, but
- 47:06Speaker 7: like in San Francisco, they have They're not going brock
- 47:10Speaker 7: pretty Trey Lance like we messed up, like you know
- 47:12Speaker 7: said that, Yeah they have pretty, but they The thing
- 47:16Speaker 7: about the touchdown pass two that was really impressive to
- 47:19Speaker 7: me was how he reads the safety rotation because like
- 47:22Speaker 7: there it's a mirrored concept where they have the same
- 47:24Speaker 7: routes on both sides, and he's supposed to read the
- 47:26Speaker 7: rotation of the safeties and work the side that's the
- 47:29Speaker 7: weak side of the formation based off of the rotation.
- 47:32Speaker 7: So the safety comes walking down to his right side,
- 47:34Speaker 7: so he starts on his right side, stares down the
- 47:36Speaker 7: right sideline and then he knows he has one on
- 47:39Speaker 7: one back side because of the way that the safety
- 47:41Speaker 7: is rotated. It was a it was a scripted shot put.
- 47:44Speaker 7: So I don't want to like get too jazzed up
- 47:46Speaker 7: about it because they clearly practiced it. And then that
- 47:49Speaker 7: they said to him, this is what you do. You know,
- 47:51Speaker 7: you look off the safety this way, you come back,
- 47:53Speaker 7: you know, look right and come back left. And he
- 47:56Speaker 7: hit He did it, and he hit it perfectly. But dude,
- 47:58Speaker 7: you know, you mentioned the little things that I feel
- 48:00Speaker 7: like he has improved on. His footwork is much better
- 48:04Speaker 7: now than it was at Tennessee. At Tennessee, he'd get
- 48:07Speaker 7: to the top of his drop and he would sink
- 48:09Speaker 7: in the mud and his feet would just be stuck
- 48:11Speaker 7: there and he wouldn't move off his spot in the game.
- 48:13Speaker 5: On Thursday night, he moved around.
- 48:15Speaker 1: Heaven to Tennessee. Caleb from Knoxville rights in die hard
- 48:19Speaker 1: volunteer fan said, Joe Milton is not an NFL caliber
- 48:23Speaker 1: quarterback at least at this time. He was nowhere close
- 48:25Speaker 1: to it. Everybody, chill out. Remember this time last year,
- 48:28Speaker 1: Malik Mania was out of control.
- 48:30Speaker 5: Now.
- 48:30Speaker 4: I mean, I just this is different to me than
- 48:32Speaker 4: the leage because Malik was just like, like I mean,
- 48:34Speaker 4: I guess it was similar in an effect that people
- 48:36Speaker 4: were seeing what they wanted to see in a preseason game,
- 48:38Speaker 4: and then we go to practice and like he doesn't
- 48:40Speaker 4: play quarterback, like you know, he threw like one pass
- 48:43Speaker 4: and you know which I think we all thought was
- 48:45Speaker 4: a terrible pass that was actually a great catch, you know.
- 48:49Speaker 1: I just I don't want to disparage it.
- 48:51Speaker 4: As if like I don't want Joe Milton to be
- 48:52Speaker 4: good like I would.
- 48:53Speaker 1: I would love it. I would love it.
- 48:55Speaker 4: But we just got to be honest to what we're
- 48:56Speaker 4: seeing here, and that is not a team that is
- 48:58Speaker 4: like you know, I would say similarly, as it's frustrating
- 49:01Speaker 4: that it doesn't really feel like Drake May is getting
- 49:03Speaker 4: an actual chance to compete for the starting job in camp. Similarly,
- 49:08Speaker 4: Joe Milton is not really getting a chance right now
- 49:10Speaker 4: to compete to be the top backup.
- 49:11Speaker 8: Yeah, he's gonna like what two reps now, did barely
- 49:14Speaker 8: even get any reps in yesterday, barely.
- 49:16Speaker 4: It's hard to it's hard to even keep track, and
- 49:17Speaker 4: a lot of times it's like opportunity reps at the
- 49:19Speaker 4: very end where it's you know, it's they get like
- 49:22Speaker 4: one or two, not like we're about to get going.
- 49:24Speaker 5: So the one on ones have begun. You got some
- 49:27Speaker 5: Patriots running backs going against the linebackers for Philadelphia. Uh,
- 49:32Speaker 5: you got bustlessly, you get like the full corners stral
- 49:34Speaker 5: You've got different one on ones going in different areas
- 49:37Speaker 5: in the field. Yeah, it's gonna be tough to sort
- 49:41Speaker 5: of keep track of everything, but we will do the
- 49:43Speaker 5: best to us.
- 49:44Speaker 6: So why don't why don't we split up a little
- 49:46Speaker 6: bit because you really have four things going on at
- 49:49Speaker 6: the same time.
- 49:50Speaker 1: Evan and I did.
- 49:50Speaker 4: I'm going to watch the defense, uh, and Evan's gonna
- 49:53Speaker 4: try to watch the offense just for the two of us.
- 49:55Speaker 1: Okay, breaking things up a little bit. But we got
- 49:59Speaker 1: defensive on ones here.
- 50:03Speaker 5: Yeah, we got defense on the right, offense on the
- 50:06Speaker 5: left for the Patriots obviously, where this is not the
- 50:09Speaker 5: Eagles broadcast wide receivers going against the Darius Slagh with
- 50:13Speaker 5: really nice coverage on Jalen Reagh that was nice. Looks
- 50:16Speaker 5: like a flag came out though maybe it was too good.
- 50:19Speaker 5: Too good a coverage for Darius Lay Marco Wilson's had
- 50:25Speaker 5: a good play against.
- 50:28Speaker 7: Really good c j Azuma, really good wrapping one on
- 50:31Speaker 7: ones for Canadian Wallace. He's actually struggled and Jim he's
- 50:34Speaker 7: ad a little bit this summer, i'd say, but he
- 50:36Speaker 7: just put Brandon Grahant into the ground.
- 50:39Speaker 1: Savvy vet.
- 50:46Speaker 5: Right, well Cox, I think that was on mail drop
- 50:51Speaker 5: touchdown there for fortyen Al Austin got burned but made
- 50:56Speaker 5: up for the drop.
- 51:00Speaker 1: I don't know if we can uh camera a little
- 51:03Speaker 1: bit more wide angle just so we can see.
- 51:07Speaker 4: Oh god, this is see this is so hard. There's
- 51:10Speaker 4: just so much going on. You're like, I know, hit
- 51:12Speaker 4: in a toy store like this, But what about this
- 51:16Speaker 4: nice play by Jalen Hurst playing throw.
- 51:21Speaker 5: Yeah, these drills like this is this is just impossible
- 51:25Speaker 5: for the for the defense, there's so much space to cover.
- 51:29Speaker 4: We've got Davante Smith against Christian Gonzalez a little bit interesting,
- 51:35Speaker 4: just threw the brakes on and yeah, nice patch by Pope.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Showing a little personality there with the catch and what
- 51:47Speaker 1: would you call that move that he did. I don't know.
- 51:50Speaker 1: I came to it late. I wasn't sure what it was.
- 51:53Speaker 5: The finger underneath the nose.
- 51:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't smell this kind of you kind of
- 51:58Speaker 1: like a Jude on thing. Oh oh, booty just gets
- 52:01Speaker 1: stick the how did two balls get on the field?
- 52:06Speaker 5: Porn a route from the other side. That's probably for
- 52:09Speaker 5: the best.
- 52:09Speaker 1: We're gonna lean heavily into team Bills because that's a
- 52:12Speaker 1: whole We got four sets of one on one is
- 52:14Speaker 1: going on right now.
- 52:17Speaker 5: Patriot's backup offensive line is having some issues right now.
- 52:22Speaker 5: So I will say during the game the other night,
- 52:24Speaker 5: not there wasn't a lot made of it, but that
- 52:26Speaker 5: line really struggled, especially the two tackles. They're struggling. Oh yeah,
- 52:31Speaker 5: big time right now, pad level one, Baker really.
- 52:35Speaker 1: Too high, Baker put the brakes on, came back, and
- 52:39Speaker 1: zc hurt showing on a j Brown.
- 52:40Speaker 7: Now it's my personal vendetta Deuce to get people to
- 52:45Speaker 7: stop holorifying one on one.
- 52:46Speaker 4: I'm not even gonna mention Drended's schooler is just all
- 52:50Speaker 4: over seven.
- 52:53Speaker 5: But these one on ones look like.
- 52:54Speaker 8: They're actually trying compared to the ones that we've seen
- 52:57Speaker 8: in Yeah, but you actually see them making move.
- 53:00Speaker 1: You kind of have to grab him at the top
- 53:02Speaker 1: of the router or else. You're cooked.
- 53:05Speaker 4: A quick question for the group armand wants uh Buster
- 53:08Speaker 4: Bubble seen anything from him?
- 53:10Speaker 7: Really, Yeah, it's a good question. I think he's on
- 53:13Speaker 7: the team, but not based off of what he's done
- 53:16Speaker 7: in camp. Mostly based off of what he's done. Say,
- 53:19Speaker 7: he doesn't get a ton of high level reps Pop Douglas,
- 53:23Speaker 7: a lot of more. Jeremiah Farms, Kristin Hill.
- 53:28Speaker 1: About to go, oh, oh, thank you, Mary appreciates you.
- 53:35Speaker 5: Eagles defensive line.
- 53:36Speaker 1: Here he goes flag on that play that is called
- 53:40Speaker 1: off coverage right there.
- 53:42Speaker 5: There's some uh they're calling him tight. Oh put your
- 53:49Speaker 5: flag away.
- 53:50Speaker 1: It was only only three flags.
- 53:54Speaker 4: I don't know about that. That's that's a tough call.
- 53:56Speaker 4: All right, here we go again, Christian azell Son, he
- 53:59Speaker 4: could Smith again. So we talked at the beginning when
- 54:01Speaker 4: you sort of said they can sort of script this stuff.
- 54:03Speaker 4: And you see, like Peppers was on Goddard like that.
- 54:06Speaker 5: That's not an accident, right, you know, like they want
- 54:09Speaker 5: to get the front line guys going against each other,
- 54:12Speaker 5: and that's that's.
- 54:13Speaker 1: Part of the script.
- 54:14Speaker 4: Yes, DeVante Smith said two pretty easy catches on Yeah,
- 54:17Speaker 4: Christian zalaz that's the thing I.
- 54:20Speaker 1: Mean Gonzales is playing off. You gotta you gotta get
- 54:22Speaker 1: in his face and make contact.
- 54:24Speaker 4: I did, uh, But by the way I did. I
- 54:25Speaker 4: know that's kind of a little bit of a point
- 54:27Speaker 4: of discussion.
- 54:28Speaker 1: I did go back. He didn't have a great Packers
- 54:31Speaker 1: joint practice either, Gonzales he got picked on a couple
- 54:34Speaker 1: of times. Yeah.
- 54:37Speaker 5: No, that that's sort of wants a story that's gained
- 54:40Speaker 5: a little traction in the last couple of days that
- 54:42Speaker 5: maybe this has just been kind of an average camp
- 54:44Speaker 5: for a little I think part of the thing too
- 54:47Speaker 5: that I would agree, but I don't know if it
- 54:49Speaker 5: means anything. I like he lets his game do the
- 54:52Speaker 5: talking in games, like he doesn't. I think he was
- 54:55Speaker 5: a lot better once we got to the season than
- 54:56Speaker 5: I thought he was, like I thought, you know, but
- 54:59Speaker 5: I think part of it is to me or two.
- 55:00Speaker 5: And you know, people are used to these you know,
- 55:03Speaker 5: corners with a little bit of an edge and a
- 55:04Speaker 5: little cocky, and he's just, you know, kind of quiet.
- 55:08Speaker 5: I just I think that plays against him a little bit.
- 55:10Speaker 4: And you know, you want loo do you want cornerbacks
- 55:13Speaker 4: whore gonna come out here that want the top guy
- 55:15Speaker 4: that are going to be in his face and feisty.
- 55:17Speaker 5: If I don't want to step on your toes. But
- 55:19Speaker 5: I just I just peeked at the offensive line for
- 55:20Speaker 5: a second and I looked up and Calvin Anderson was
- 55:23Speaker 5: chasing the guy that.
- 55:25Speaker 7: Yeah, it's not been pretty. It's not been pretty. Oh,
- 55:31Speaker 7: I mean nothing that you didn't expect. This Eagle's defensive
- 55:34Speaker 7: front's pretty stacked.
- 55:35Speaker 5: But I just.
- 55:39Speaker 1: Sat Wallace a lot of.
- 55:40Speaker 5: L's, yeah, a lot of els.
- 55:42Speaker 8: I will say something about I would say John Jones
- 55:46Speaker 8: isn't really like a chirper either, though I feel like
- 55:48Speaker 8: he's he's not really like a in your face like
- 55:51Speaker 8: of course he might celebrate a good play.
- 55:53Speaker 1: But he's not. I mean, I you know, and I
- 55:55Speaker 1: don't want to say it like that just to make
- 55:59Speaker 1: a play.
- 55:59Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I think you want to just exer
- 56:02Speaker 5: by Polk right there.
- 56:03Speaker 1: Real nice shape, Yeah he heard us, very nice.
- 56:07Speaker 4: So we uh for the Eagles here uh wide receivers
- 56:10Speaker 4: and Patriots TV's we've moved down into their.
- 56:12Speaker 5: Ten yard line or so, so little more condensed. This
- 56:16Speaker 5: has been a pretty ugly one on ones for City.
- 56:20Speaker 5: So also had some issues in the game, I thought too, Yeah,
- 56:24Speaker 5: just seemed like class, like just seemed all over the place.
- 56:27Speaker 1: Yeah, playing a little too fast.
- 56:29Speaker 5: Yeah, Yeah, he did not play well in the game.
- 56:35Speaker 5: He also missed a little time heading in. I thought
- 56:38Speaker 5: there was some odd sort of personnel decisions in the
- 56:41Speaker 5: preseason game based on you know, Jukes had missed three
- 56:44Speaker 5: straight practices. Yeah, and then he's out there. Maybe he
- 56:47Speaker 5: just wasn't physically ready to play, you know, because he
- 56:51Speaker 5: struggled a little bit too. Yeah. Just see both both sides.
- 56:58Speaker 5: The receivers are consistently getting open. Now. The quarterbacks not
- 57:01Speaker 5: always making the uh, making the connections, but the receivers
- 57:05Speaker 5: are open. Yeah.
- 57:08Speaker 1: The two boxes on your screen right now, Brown, job
- 57:11Speaker 1: buy our.
- 57:12Speaker 5: He's just too easy.
- 57:13Speaker 1: Yeah, too physical, Brown, very very physical. That one will
- 57:22Speaker 1: always hurt.
- 57:23Speaker 7: Christian zaz is the least of my worries. Like I get,
- 57:27Speaker 7: if you're gonna be honest about what we've seen in camp.
- 57:29Speaker 7: He hasn't been this lockdown corner in camp, there's no
- 57:33Speaker 7: doubt about that. But they got much bigger problems than
- 57:36Speaker 7: Christian Zalesh. I would agree with that, But what if
- 57:38Speaker 7: he is not as good as we think?
- 57:40Speaker 1: Uh, I don't know.
- 57:42Speaker 7: I mean, like I guess It's like if you were
- 57:44Speaker 7: on the fitting in for the red jacket, you know,
- 57:47Speaker 7: team and so in other which if you're a member
- 57:49Speaker 7: of the local media, I don't it depends on what
- 57:53Speaker 7: you thought it was as good as you think.
- 57:54Speaker 5: You know. I I I just what if he's not
- 57:57Speaker 5: a lockdown number one quarter, if he's just what if
- 58:03Speaker 5: he's just an Okay, what if he's Jonathan Jones.
- 58:05Speaker 1: I think he got problems. I mean, to be honest,
- 58:08Speaker 1: I don't agree with you.
- 58:10Speaker 4: To be honest, he is not in my head as
- 58:11Speaker 4: a lockdown corner I mean, I'm excited about him, but
- 58:14Speaker 4: that would be it.
- 58:15Speaker 1: He is a jump to me.
- 58:16Speaker 5: See, I think most people would say, well, you got
- 58:18Speaker 5: the one guy. He's our sauce gardener, Like we have
- 58:20Speaker 5: the one guy on that side that we don't have
- 58:22Speaker 5: to worry about the other team's best.
- 58:24Speaker 1: I want him to be a Pro Bowl caliber cornerback.
- 58:26Speaker 1: I gotta I gotta see a full season of that.
- 58:29Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think. I'm not saying he is That's
- 58:31Speaker 5: what I want him to be. Know me too, that
- 58:33Speaker 5: I'm not saying kind of expected to be. I'm just saying,
- 58:36Speaker 5: what if he isn't. I'm not saying he is or
- 58:39Speaker 5: he isn't. I'm just saying what if he isn't, because
- 58:41Speaker 5: I think they're kind of relying on him to be that.
- 58:43Speaker 5: Oh a guy just felt dude fell in the middle
- 58:47Speaker 5: of the field for Philly. Ah, it's allas held his
- 58:53Speaker 5: own there with a J Brown a little bit. I
- 58:56Speaker 5: don't know if he's are one on ones, I'm not
- 58:57Speaker 5: going to make toom bigger deal of him.
- 58:58Speaker 8: No, thank you, thank you, I will say, Pelagrino said
- 59:01Speaker 8: yesterday when he was asked about Christian Gonzalez his camp,
- 59:04Speaker 8: he was like, he's one on ones or for the offense,
- 59:07Speaker 8: they're not for the defense.
- 59:08Speaker 1: Oh yeah, eighty three John Ross.
- 59:10Speaker 5: Okay, so he seemed pretty cool about where Gonzalez is
- 59:14Speaker 5: right now.
- 59:14Speaker 1: But what I saw last year for Gonzales, even in
- 59:18Speaker 1: the one on ones, was this fluidity that all the
- 59:21Speaker 1: lockdown corners have this ability to just change direction and
- 59:25Speaker 1: stay with the guy. That's really hard to do. I'm
- 59:28Speaker 1: not quite seeing that right now. I don't, you know.
- 59:31Speaker 5: That's what I've seen more from Polk right now. Although
- 59:33Speaker 5: he's going to get as going to get a penalty there. Yeah,
- 59:37Speaker 5: but he had trouble creating separation on that one. But
- 59:39Speaker 5: you got the holding call, So I think Gonzo is
- 59:43Speaker 5: gonna be fine. Yeah, I'm not telling you too, but
- 59:46Speaker 5: don't I think you're kind of taking us to a
- 59:48Speaker 5: different place. I'm not telling you I'm worried about Christian Gonzalez.
- 59:51Speaker 5: I'm telling you, what if he's not a top flight
- 59:55Speaker 5: shut down corner, I think that's what they're relying on.
- 59:58Speaker 7: Yeah, I think the biggest thing with him is just
- 1:00:02Speaker 7: he's one of those guys that you have to push
- 1:00:03Speaker 7: the right buttons with him to get him motivated and
- 1:00:06Speaker 7: get him locked in. But I'm less worried about that
- 1:00:10Speaker 7: happening in a regular season game than I am out
- 1:00:12Speaker 7: here in practice. Like I get it at practice, it's
- 1:00:14Speaker 7: gonna be difficult at times to get his motor to
- 1:00:17Speaker 7: one hundred and ten percent. It's just is not his demeanor.
- 1:00:20Speaker 7: But in terms of when we get into the games
- 1:00:22Speaker 7: and stuff like that, like when he's lining up against
- 1:00:24Speaker 7: Jamar Chase in Week one, and I don't think that
- 1:00:26Speaker 7: he's gonna be going at ninety percent against Jamar Chase. Like,
- 1:00:29Speaker 7: I think he'll turn it up and I think he'll
- 1:00:31Speaker 7: be fine. I just I don't I think there's too
- 1:00:34Speaker 7: much raw talent and ability there for me to not
- 1:00:36Speaker 7: think that he's going to be a stud. It's She's
- 1:00:39Speaker 7: just he's everything that you look for at that position,
- 1:00:41Speaker 7: especially on the outside.
- 1:00:44Speaker 5: It's like they'll work into some seven on seven now, yeah.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: All right, and then I'm gonna do it. Yeah, I'm
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: gonna do it right now? What are you doing? I
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: just I'm disappointed in Kem White. I don't see.
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: I don't see, really, I don't see much there. I
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: gotta be honest, I I just don't. I mean, I
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: want him to be good. I've said it, but like
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: and Van and I have been talking about this. I
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: know he got pumped up early in camp. I haven't
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: heard as much of that from other members of the media,
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: but for me, he's playing a lot and in these
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: one on ones throughout the summer, he's stiff.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: He just doesn't really have a lot of savvy to
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: his game. He doesn't have a lot of wiggle.
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: He's a just a head down, bull rush kind of
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: a guy. Now, it just it feels too similar to
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: me to Anthony Jennings. I mean, I said to Evan yesterday,
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: like three and a half sacks between those two guys
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: this year, Like would you bet be over because I
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: just don't think either one of them have the speed
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: or the savvy to be consistent pass rush threats. I
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: think they might be fine as edge setters, but unless
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: key On White has a different gear that we haven't
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: seen yet, I just I haven't seen.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: I haven't seen the magic from.
- 1:01:48Speaker 7: Him so well, but he wasn't a pass rusher in college,
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: So why are we expecting him to be a pass
- 1:01:54Speaker 7: rusher now?
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: Exactly?
- 1:01:55Speaker 7: Like, but that's the narrative that is out there, is
- 1:01:58Speaker 7: that he's gonna make this huge leap and be this
- 1:02:01Speaker 7: disruptive force. And I just think Duce and I both
- 1:02:03Speaker 7: have not necessarily seen that out of him. Like he
- 1:02:06Speaker 7: doesn't get off blocks, Like he can go through blocks,
- 1:02:09Speaker 7: but he doesn't get off blocks.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: So like, if you're gonna have actual.
- 1:02:12Speaker 5: Production, had a good pass break up over there, he
- 1:02:16Speaker 5: was with.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: Them, right with them.
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: Yeah, So no Jonathan Jones, no Marcus Jones in these
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: you know, sort of quasi competitive reps as we expected.
- 1:02:27Speaker 5: Marco Wilson is out there with Gonzales, and then it
- 1:02:31Speaker 5: looks like Isaiah Bolden is that Bolden Wick Duggar and uh,
- 1:02:38Speaker 5: Peppers sort of with five dbs and then a couple
- 1:02:43Speaker 5: of linebackers, so Nickel package you get Bolden and Marco
- 1:02:46Speaker 5: Wilson out there.
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: I just say too.
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: Another thing is where's josh uj been on camp? I
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: I mean, I haven't seen him make a play. I
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: don't participating. I know he's physically he's up to speed, don't.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: I don't.
- 1:02:59Speaker 5: I don't think he's done anything. Yeah, you know against
- 1:03:01Speaker 5: the defense.
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: Really, that's why when I look at it through the
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: lens of like, I can't worry about Gonzales because I'm
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: just so much more worried about his pass rush.
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: That's what I think you guys both said.
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: And I'm a lot more worried about things more than Gonzales,
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: I would agree.
- 1:03:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm just sort of most because in my mind,
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: he's an athletic, promising outside corner. I'm not thinking that
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: he's a Hall of Famer already and that you know,
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: we need him to be our number. Like I'm excited
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: to see him play, But I mean three games and
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: change it was good. I hope that it hits, you know,
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: another level kind of like I feel like it did
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: last year in the games and all of a sudden,
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: he fits into the defense really well because he moves
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: so well, and there's you know, he's gonna be able
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: to make up ground. But I don't know, I'm just overall,
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: I would say a little bit concerned about these you know,
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: young pass rush types that we're supposed to be counting
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: on this year. I just don't see a lot of juice.
- 1:03:59Speaker 5: So the Patriots offenses kind of like we've seen during
- 1:04:03Speaker 5: during the camp. It's a lot of a lot of
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: short throws and check downs.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: Kerch long and complete.
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: That's a play right there. I mean it's that Smith Dugger, Yeah, Overdugger.
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: Just you know, I mean that that's a mismatch.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: That's the play where it looks kind of covered and
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: then he just kind of wrist in the right.
- 1:04:21Speaker 5: So anybody see the play was at his zone? Yeah,
- 1:04:25Speaker 5: So who was the corner that was supposed to be
- 1:04:26Speaker 5: there should have dropped out?
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: It might have been Dial. I'm not sure if they
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: rotated before.
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: Yeah, but was just like, you know a little bit
- 1:04:39Speaker 5: of that. You know, you got Marcellus Dial, Sean Wade.
- 1:04:42Speaker 5: Oh no, I'm sorry, that's Isaiah Alex Austin, not not
- 1:04:46Speaker 5: Sean Wade. So you got a zz hearn. This is like,
- 1:04:51Speaker 5: I think the depth is an issue, like you know
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: you're missing a guy or two in the two Jones is.
- 1:04:58Speaker 5: I think it drops off quickly. But Mike Pellegrino doesn't agree.
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I was.
- 1:05:03Speaker 5: Gonna say this, children. I was surprised yesterday when Pelgrino
- 1:05:07Speaker 5: was asked who's shocked him the most of this camp
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: and he said it was an easy herder. Yeah, I
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: was not expecting that, honestly. Yeah, I just I don't know.
- 1:05:16Speaker 5: I just haven't seen it. I've seen those guys struggling.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: Wow, another deep past the fleet. That's Austin.
- 1:05:25Speaker 5: I do not think Alex Austin has been very getting
- 1:05:29Speaker 5: camp either.
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: He's he's given up.
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: Is that John Ross? Yes it was eighty three, Yes,
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: it was all right. So there's a guy it's a
- 1:05:36Speaker 5: reclamation project of Philadelphia trying to get something out of him.
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: He's made some place.
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: Yep, Yeah, I noticed the rule.
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: It's like, I don't know, I haven't seen a lot
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: of our offense, but there guys seem to be catching
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: the ball on the run and our guys seem to
- 1:05:56Speaker 4: be catching it and fallowing.
- 1:05:57Speaker 5: I just I want to see it like. See the
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: Eagles have thrown some quick passes, some quick outs, you know,
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: and they've also pushed the ball downfield, you know, not
- 1:06:05Speaker 5: always successfully, but they've they've done it. The Patriots just
- 1:06:08Speaker 5: seemed like they they're content to throw a lot of checkdowns.
- 1:06:11Speaker 5: I'd like to see them opening up again, you know,
- 1:06:13Speaker 5: see if Drake May, let's run loose here. Yeah, here's
- 1:06:16Speaker 5: one right down the sideline.
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: The Baker.
- 1:06:20Speaker 5: On Clay You're welcome, You welcome Patriots.
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: Yeah that was a downfield down the right sideline and
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: May connected with Baker.
- 1:06:30Speaker 7: Yeah, good route to Jay Javon Baker there on the ground.
- 1:06:34Speaker 7: Like how he kept the space I was like, how
- 1:06:36Speaker 7: we gave himself some room on the side room line.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: This is the day Drake May made the Patriots his Team's.
- 1:06:42Speaker 5: Just nice to see you.
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: This was the day that Mac Jones did nice uh
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: passed downfield accuracy.
- 1:06:49Speaker 5: Unfortunately, your Kobe Brissett is out there, he doesn't have
- 1:06:52Speaker 5: the luxury that Mac Jones did and went right back
- 1:06:56Speaker 5: to check buns.
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: Okay. I was think you got early down, early downplay.
- 1:07:04Speaker 7: The whole handling of the quarterbacks have grounded my gears
- 1:07:06Speaker 7: a little bit. Well, I'm not there yet to like
- 1:07:10Speaker 7: go on crazy about it, but let.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: Me read this email from Matt. He says, what's your
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: take on AVP? The talking heads like Beatle are steadfast
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: at AVP is a Prisette guy and isn't the best
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: person to be vested into May. That the system AVP
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: and others was not compiled with May's best interest and
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: this team is actually designed for Brissett's skills. They made
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: this claim based on AVP being the head coach of
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: the offense per Mayo and it being a VP and
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: others who have come up with the slow developing May plan.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: I think it's a little presumptuous to think he's not
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: a may guy. But man, do they make Apelling debate
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: on ninety eight point?
- 1:07:45Speaker 10: Now?
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: It just doesn't make sense to me. So AVP is like,
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: I want to have a two year career here and
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: then that's it. Like I mean, if he wants to
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: have a long term career as an offensive coordinator and
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: really like establish himself, right, it's with Drake May, you know,
- 1:07:57Speaker 4: Like he's the guy that developed Drake May build his house.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: You know, on top of Jacobe Brissett.
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: Like that doesn't make any sense to me, Like, I
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: get it, Like you want to criticize them for being
- 1:08:07Speaker 4: too conservative with him in the first preseason game.
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: Sure, I get it.
- 1:08:10Speaker 4: But at the same time, I think that whole storyline
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: might be completely moot after this practice and Thursday Night's
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: game if he plays a ton So I don't know,
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: we'll see.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, there's a lot of guys involved in
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: this quarterback. There's there's obviously Van Pelt, but then you've
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: got McCartney and you've got McAdoo, And you wonder, like,
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: when we're not watching, what who's really the person one
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: on one?
- 1:08:39Speaker 5: You know?
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: Is it a VP? It may not be.
- 1:08:41Speaker 5: It could be based on what Mayo says, it's Alex
- 1:08:45Speaker 5: Van Pelt's. I mean he called him the head coach
- 1:08:47Speaker 5: of the offense. He's the guy, yeah, that he referred
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: to when he talked about the plan for the preseason
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: or with Alex van Pell.
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: But I mean, I'm talking about the one on one
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: with with may.
- 1:08:57Speaker 5: I'm guessing that that's Van Pelt.
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: Well, it's hard to do that and be in charge
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: of everything else on the offense, is what I'm saying.
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: You have to delegate a little bit so hard jump.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: You know, that's why you have this quarterbacks coach. You know,
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: you would think the quarterbacks coach would be the guy.
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, the quarterbacks coach. He's gonna have a
- 1:09:16Speaker 5: lot of experience. C McCartney.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: This is as full as I've seen this place. I
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: mean it is swamped out there, even during the Brady days. Yeah,
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: yea more. It's more than Brady. Absolutely. I look forward
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: to those numbers. Ready, Yeah, I look forward to him too.
- 1:09:38Speaker 5: I need something to laugh up.
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: Well, you don't think it's.
- 1:09:42Speaker 5: I think it's an excellent crowd. I don't think it's
- 1:09:44Speaker 5: Brady esque. Why not because all of these banners weren't
- 1:09:48Speaker 5: there when Brady was there, and there was literally thousands
- 1:09:51Speaker 5: of people in those.
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: I mean, look at it.
- 1:09:55Speaker 6: It's it's three levels of ramps with about three five deep.
- 1:10:00Speaker 6: But look at all the people down there that haven't
- 1:10:02Speaker 6: even sat down.
- 1:10:03Speaker 5: Yeah, they would all be in here when Brady was playing.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: What are you talking abouts?
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: I really hate that they're both going at once.
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: I don't see any open area.
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: Also, they just bumbled the snap over there, and I
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: since I had some negative things to say about the defense,
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: I mean, for better or worse. I think Daniel Lqualley
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: has been pretty good, and it seems like he's really
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: without Lawrence guy and without Christian Barmore. It seems to
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: me like he's first guy up at this point, as
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: you know, kind of next to Godshaw.
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: They play, you know, a number of different.
- 1:10:37Speaker 4: Fronts, but a lot of times weren't that like kind
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: of a you know what is it like a two
- 1:10:41Speaker 4: four or five nickel package kind of thing with two
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: big linemen.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: Yeah, he's the one with with god jahnso.
- 1:10:48Speaker 5: X front X front X front.
- 1:10:51Speaker 8: There you go, and if he can stay consistent, people
- 1:10:54Speaker 8: might be getting aboard the Jeremiah Farms train.
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:10:57Speaker 5: I mean, I you know, I don't really see him
- 1:10:59Speaker 5: being like you know, subber pass rusher. First pass attempt
- 1:11:04Speaker 5: for the offense results in a sack, and first past
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: attempt for Philly results in a nice little out to
- 1:11:11Speaker 5: a J.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: Brown.
- 1:11:12Speaker 5: It's on My City shows on my radar.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: Was that him that got the Yeah? And see I
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: think those those big guys, that's a good test.
- 1:11:19Speaker 5: Without the interior of the offensive line, the Eagles have
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: a good I can't tell the personnel that is that
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: Jordan Davis on the right I believe.
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: I think it's jail and card humongous too. Their top
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: guys are in there. This is a good little play here.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: Those boop are out and off off of play action. Yeah,
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: wide open. We've got a blitz coming from the Patriots.
- 1:11:49Speaker 5: What happened another catch?
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: Uh? Yep?
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: Jalen Hurts just stepped up with the pressure and fired
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: it to a J. Brown on a crosser and it
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: looked like it would.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: Have been a nightmare trying.
- 1:11:58Speaker 5: To track him down because Alex Austin could not keep up.
- 1:12:03Speaker 5: So I do think the secondary right now is not
- 1:12:06Speaker 5: necessarily indicative of what you might see. You know, you've
- 1:12:09Speaker 5: got no Marcus Jones, no Jonathan Jones, really not even
- 1:12:12Speaker 5: any Sean Wade right, he's not been out there yet.
- 1:12:14Speaker 4: No, he got Isaiah Bolden playing in the slot these days. Again,
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: they got to get some of these guys back healthy.
- 1:12:22Speaker 4: Patriots O line is struggling. I mean, they they can't
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: get anything going. This is a pretty heavy running early
- 1:12:28Speaker 4: down period. They've been stuffed on pretty much every single run.
- 1:12:32Speaker 4: Where are tackles the normal darian?
- 1:12:37Speaker 5: Yeah, have a long play.
- 1:12:42Speaker 4: Ridiculous, it's been Matthew Jon's signature would like to see
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: him in uniform running guys down.
- 1:12:49Speaker 5: Rather than running people down in sweat. Nice quick read
- 1:12:58Speaker 5: there by Jacoby Brissett. The wholesale changes.
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: All right, I'm the two. Let's see what May can do.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: But again he's now with the number two's against the
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: Eagles number two, so it's not quite apples to apples
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: for May.
- 1:13:15Speaker 7: I just don't really care for the fact that we've
- 1:13:17Speaker 7: never opened the door to Drake made potentially starting super
- 1:13:22Speaker 7: rather than later.
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: I couldn't agree with you more.
- 1:13:24Speaker 5: It's okay that if he doesn't, but we haven't even
- 1:13:27Speaker 5: looked at it, like you can have it in your
- 1:13:28Speaker 5: mind right now that there's absolutely no possible way I'm
- 1:13:32Speaker 5: playing him, and I'd be fine with that, But why
- 1:13:35Speaker 5: can't you start? But just do pigets get another pre
- 1:13:38Speaker 5: snap penalty, flat legal motion, oh and holding two penalties on.
- 1:13:46Speaker 7: That point the first play that Drake May just ran
- 1:13:48Speaker 7: right there, it's just like a jail break on the
- 1:13:50Speaker 7: left side of the backup offensive line. I mean, it's
- 1:13:53Speaker 7: probably a sack in the game. He ended up checking
- 1:13:55Speaker 7: it down. It just at some point I would just
- 1:13:58Speaker 7: like to see them give.
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: Him a chance.
- 1:14:00Speaker 5: Yeah, I totally agree. Of like give me the like
- 1:14:03Speaker 5: the first ten plays, you know, with the ones and
- 1:14:06Speaker 5: let it go. Now. The other night when he played
- 1:14:08Speaker 5: in Fairness, it was one series, but it was with
- 1:14:11Speaker 5: the ones. He played with the ones that you know
- 1:14:14Speaker 5: that are available at this time. But I agree with Evan,
- 1:14:18Speaker 5: I would like to have seen that at practice a
- 1:14:22Speaker 5: little bit more often than we've gotten a chance to see. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:14:27Speaker 5: I just it seems to me like they had a
- 1:14:30Speaker 5: plan coming in ye and that plans was Poe Berset
- 1:14:35Speaker 5: for the first you know, stretch of the season and
- 1:14:37Speaker 5: then we'll see and no matter what Drake May did
- 1:14:41Speaker 5: and barring him absolutely coming out here and setting the
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: earth on fire was going to change their minds. And
- 1:14:48Speaker 5: that's just where we're at.
- 1:14:49Speaker 7: I just I don't really know what he was supposed
- 1:14:52Speaker 7: to do, working behind a backup offensive line, throwing a
- 1:14:55Speaker 7: Mitchell Wilcox and and you know Kishan Boudi that was
- 1:14:58Speaker 7: going to light the world on fire to move the needle.
- 1:15:05Speaker 5: Yeah, I'll say I thought the the Patriots defense, like,
- 1:15:09Speaker 5: I think they struggled a little bit in the secondary,
- 1:15:11Speaker 5: but I thought they got some decent pressure at times
- 1:15:14Speaker 5: on hurts. Did you guys watch any of those plays
- 1:15:16Speaker 5: no coming up.
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: Yeah they did. I mean a couple of times. Yeah,
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: it's hard to tell. And he moves pretty well in
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: the pocket.
- 1:15:22Speaker 5: They've rotated and yeah, some of the second that the
- 1:15:25Speaker 5: two's are in now. But I thought there were a
- 1:15:27Speaker 5: couple of plays that they looked like they got some
- 1:15:29Speaker 5: decent penetration up front.
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: Yeah, one of the one of the blitzes, that one,
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: to me looked like they beat it. But yeah, a
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: couple of other times just hard to tell.
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: It is hard to tell.
- 1:15:46Speaker 5: Oh, that's some room in that one. Yeah, that looked
- 1:15:49Speaker 5: like you did have some room. I don't know if
- 1:15:51Speaker 5: I think it is that ninety seven Kristin Hill maybe
- 1:15:54Speaker 5: would have made the tackle, Yeah, but I ended up
- 1:15:57Speaker 5: on the ground. Room.
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a good run. I thought, quick past the
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: baker r P.
- 1:16:14Speaker 5: Yeahs, that's that's jailing Pope. Pope been doing a little
- 1:16:17Speaker 5: bit more of that. So my my concern would be
- 1:16:27Speaker 5: that that's what they're going to have to do to
- 1:16:28Speaker 5: get passes off. Is the way that we've seen today
- 1:16:32Speaker 5: is get it out quick short.
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: Quill hasn't that that the way the last few years.
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: I mean, it's they just don't have the time. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: Pops Douglas in the slot here, great Mayson quarterback and
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: he hits Pop. Yeah, but not on the run.
- 1:17:03Speaker 7: He had that matchup that I think if you hit
- 1:17:05Speaker 7: him on the run the safety he would annihilate him.
- 1:17:08Speaker 7: He had the linebacker in the slot on Pop Douglas,
- 1:17:10Speaker 7: there was his own coverage and he read that one out.
- 1:17:12Speaker 7: Well that was that was a good like I like
- 1:17:14Speaker 7: place to go to the ball.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:17:23Speaker 5: I think he kind of protected him Freddy with the
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: throw and his this this will be my first of
- 1:17:28Speaker 5: the quarterback apologist comments that I'll make for Drake May
- 1:17:31Speaker 5: but I think he sort of settled him down. Yeah,
- 1:17:34Speaker 5: okay the boy did they hit over the top? Were
- 1:17:37Speaker 5: set back in for the offense, by the way, Yeah,
- 1:17:46Speaker 5: that one popped open too. Got lucky because Mike on
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: one who got beat in past pro kJ Osborne a
- 1:17:54Speaker 5: little slant, that's.
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: Yeah, ninety eight ninety inside man.
- 1:18:08Speaker 5: Yeah, they're giving them bits.
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: What you talking about, god shaw a quality and.
- 1:18:20Speaker 5: They can't they can't run them all.
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: They were in the backfield. Ye, let's swin move inside.
- 1:18:29Speaker 7: Yes, I still remains skeptical that these outside zone runs
- 1:18:34Speaker 7: are gonna work. I just I just don't feel like
- 1:18:36Speaker 7: they have a team's speed on offense to get get
- 1:18:39Speaker 7: the edge. It just doesn't seem like it. They get
- 1:18:43Speaker 7: the corner often enough to make teams respect the fact
- 1:18:46Speaker 7: that they could bounce.
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: It with the hold on the drawing a hole, they're.
- 1:18:53Speaker 5: H I know what's a hold?
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: But where was everybody?
- 1:18:57Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: Who was that one?
- 1:19:03Speaker 5: Defense? Off sides?
- 1:19:05Speaker 8: Like?
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: Where was where was that?
- 1:19:07Speaker 5: On this side? There was a defense off side of
- 1:19:09Speaker 5: the offense. Patriots offense on the left field got a
- 1:19:15Speaker 5: uh neutral zone infraction. Someone in the middle I didn't see.
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: Working it on my Chalen Hurts back in over on
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: the right side here, So this.
- 1:19:26Speaker 5: Is Austin and Gonzales now that corner, yes, sir, Yeah,
- 1:19:37Speaker 5: that might have been a That might have been an
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: eight or ten yard game. Got the edge pretty easy
- 1:19:44Speaker 5: on that. To your point, Eon White out there like
- 1:19:51Speaker 5: this looked like they.
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: Ran at him.
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: I just hate taking that, like harving out space on
- 1:19:59Speaker 5: a take of something I don't want to happen. It's
- 1:20:01Speaker 5: just you know that he can't.
- 1:20:02Speaker 4: He isn't a player for this team and isn't an
- 1:20:05Speaker 4: impact player for this team this year.
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: So good extended team period here. Yeah, this is kind
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: of what they did in Green Bay last year. It's
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: heading over ten minutes at this point for this period.
- 1:20:16Speaker 7: Offense defense on on separate fields, and then they'll probably
- 1:20:19Speaker 7: come together at some point and be like a good job.
- 1:20:22Speaker 5: But the Eagles offensive line, they are just really picked
- 1:20:25Speaker 5: up that. Yeah, I think July to vibe woodstuffs in
- 1:20:27Speaker 5: the middle and I just came flying in like got
- 1:20:29Speaker 5: killed haphazard. And I think Kurtz would have had a
- 1:20:33Speaker 5: big game because that whole middle parted. I think Nix
- 1:20:38Speaker 5: Serriani started going whistle. I know, well, it kind of
- 1:20:42Speaker 5: dangerous the way to buy just minute too.
- 1:20:47Speaker 7: I feel like this is so far has gone exactly
- 1:20:50Speaker 7: how you would expect with one team that has Super
- 1:20:53Speaker 7: Bowl aspirations and another team that does not.
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: I'm struggling with it right now.
- 1:20:58Speaker 5: But as a ball star away year, Yeah, so can
- 1:21:02Speaker 5: I just say, like, I'm not even talking about talent
- 1:21:05Speaker 5: and anything else. I never remember a camp like this
- 1:21:09Speaker 5: with the amount of penalties they've had. And I don't
- 1:21:13Speaker 5: know if I'm being an apologist to Bill here, but
- 1:21:16Speaker 5: they have five six pre snap penalties every practice. I
- 1:21:19Speaker 5: feel like they had those every game last year, especially
- 1:21:22Speaker 5: Trump Brown. Not this many and certainly not in practice.
- 1:21:28Speaker 5: They were a highly penalized team. Yeah they were last year. Yeah,
- 1:21:32Speaker 5: not not in the Beellowchick era, but not like they
- 1:21:35Speaker 5: can't even get a playoff in practice without someone jumping
- 1:21:38Speaker 5: off side. I think it's embarrassing, and I agree with
- 1:21:42Speaker 5: Austin Hooper doesn't require any talents to stay on side.
- 1:21:46Speaker 5: That was ten days ago, right, yeah, and was still
- 1:21:48Speaker 5: seeing it every day. There's a good play there, by
- 1:21:52Speaker 5: Godsha stuffed one of those inside handoffs oute of the Shakya,
- 1:22:01Speaker 5: their most consistent route on offense by far, or those
- 1:22:04Speaker 5: little sat routes over the middle where the tight end
- 1:22:08Speaker 5: or the slot receiver just breaks off leverage and just
- 1:22:10Speaker 5: like kind of finds the void and just sits there.
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: And they hit him.
- 1:22:15Speaker 7: Yeah that eight yards, yep. But hey, if it's first
- 1:22:18Speaker 7: and ten, now it's second and two, absolutely.
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: I'll take it. But those are good games on first dole,
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: I'll take it. Not trying to, but I think it's it.
- 1:22:26Speaker 5: I'm worried about first down is going to feature run run,
- 1:22:30Speaker 5: and then it's third and eighth.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I like you all day for hurts.
- 1:22:36Speaker 5: Not good coverage though, we had to check.
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: It down business that played, Gonzo rotated back to safety
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: deep safety. Hurts is done for that segment.
- 1:22:55Speaker 7: They were back to drink may on offense. This rand
- 1:22:59Speaker 7: of RPO handoff on the first play seems like we're
- 1:23:04Speaker 7: moving a little bit more this way and maybe till
- 1:23:07Speaker 7: a little bit on second and third down stuff.
- 1:23:10Speaker 5: Now it seems like by this way, I mean closer
- 1:23:15Speaker 5: to the end zone. Yeah, yeah, D fifty two nothing
- 1:23:24Speaker 5: doing in the running game. It's always funny that we
- 1:23:28Speaker 5: see these teams and then you look at it and
- 1:23:29Speaker 5: I'm like, oh, yeah, I like that guy coming out.
- 1:23:31Speaker 5: It'll become a coops these random names Jlyx Hunt. Apparently
- 1:23:36Speaker 5: Christian Barmore is in attendance, obviously not playing, but he
- 1:23:41Speaker 5: is physically here.
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: Okay, well that's a good sign. Do you think at
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: some point there'll be some kind of ye general update
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: on him.
- 1:23:53Speaker 5: Yeah, if he's not going to be available for the season, yeah,
- 1:23:56Speaker 5: they're probably gonna tell us. I mean probably at the
- 1:24:02Speaker 5: end of the camp. He's gonna have to go on
- 1:24:03Speaker 5: a list of some sort anyway, right, is this special
- 1:24:09Speaker 5: teams period now looks like.
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: Good as overwhelmed. We've got a ball on the tee.
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: So I would imagine we're doing kickoffs and the Eagles
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: and what are the Patriots doing? You can't tell. Yeah, okay,
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: Patriots are going to do return on the Eagles kicking.
- 1:24:35Speaker 5: It's like, so some of this stuff is hard to
- 1:24:37Speaker 5: do at the same time because there's so many there's
- 1:24:40Speaker 5: so many of the same players involved.
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: You know, you're in.
- 1:24:47Speaker 5: So now we can really find out what happened because
- 1:24:49Speaker 5: the famous Greg Bodard walking right behind us. So in
- 1:24:53Speaker 5: case anybody wanted to know what happened in practice, Greg
- 1:24:55Speaker 5: is here to tell us what we don't know.
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: Oh jokes, everybody thought of those one on ones, I
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: do the.
- 1:25:03Speaker 5: Same thing to you, that's true. Yeah, So I was
- 1:25:09Speaker 5: just saying, like, when you're doing special teams, it's hard
- 1:25:11Speaker 5: to do a lot of different things at the same
- 1:25:13Speaker 5: time because so many of the same players are involved
- 1:25:16Speaker 5: in the core four special teams.
- 1:25:19Speaker 7: Yeah, given the Yeah, there, guys, a little brather and
- 1:25:22Speaker 7: then I'm sure we'll be right back into team after that.
- 1:25:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:25:27Speaker 7: It offensively, some short completions kind of found a little
- 1:25:31Speaker 7: bit of a rhythm there, it seemed like in the
- 1:25:33Speaker 7: passing game, but the running game was non existent.
- 1:25:38Speaker 11: Let's be honest, there's one team here. Like you said
- 1:25:43Speaker 11: that his head and shoulders above the other.
- 1:25:45Speaker 5: Flags all over the place. On this return for the Patriots,
- 1:25:48Speaker 5: Pop actually bounced it outside. Looked like we had a
- 1:25:50Speaker 5: little bit of room on the.
- 1:25:53Speaker 11: The Eagles look like the more you know, the team
- 1:25:58Speaker 11: that's closer to the Patriots by far, no doubt.
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm just I'm going to just do my best
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: not to overreact.
- 1:26:05Speaker 5: To any of Yeah, I'm not. I don't overreact to
- 1:26:08Speaker 5: get joy practices.
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: Hurts a quarterback who's a you know, a pro bowler,
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: you would expect that.
- 1:26:16Speaker 8: Yeah, I honestly think the only thing that's going to
- 1:26:18Speaker 8: hold this team back, the Eagles back, is is themselves.
- 1:26:22Speaker 5: I don't know what's going on in their locker room,
- 1:26:24Speaker 5: but that's the only Well, they have internal issues. They
- 1:26:26Speaker 5: do not have talent issues. They have internal issues. They
- 1:26:29Speaker 5: have coaching issues. Well that's internal.
- 1:26:31Speaker 7: Yes, yeah, they're they're coaching staff, but I'm not sure
- 1:26:39Speaker 7: their offensive coaching staff yet. That's going to be a
- 1:26:42Speaker 7: big thing with them, And that.
- 1:26:43Speaker 5: Was losing Shane Stike in. Yeah, they haven't really looked
- 1:26:47Speaker 5: the same since. No.
- 1:26:49Speaker 7: He seemed to be the guy that had all the
- 1:26:52Speaker 7: all like the secondary plays, Like their base offense is
- 1:26:55Speaker 7: the same as it was with Stiking, but he had
- 1:26:57Speaker 7: all of like the bells and whistles that came off
- 1:26:59Speaker 7: of all the base concepts that they were running and things.
- 1:27:03Speaker 7: And last year their offense was overly simple, Like, especially
- 1:27:07Speaker 7: for a team with that much talent, it doesn't need
- 1:27:09Speaker 7: to be that rudimentary, and it was. They were running
- 1:27:13Speaker 7: the same like ten plays every single game. Jeremy Springer
- 1:27:27Speaker 7: trying to.
- 1:27:28Speaker 5: Get out of the drill. Seen a little bit more
- 1:27:30Speaker 5: Isaiah Bolden back there and returns.
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: In recent somebody up loaded up.
- 1:27:38Speaker 4: Definitely between like injuries to kickoff returners and you know,
- 1:27:43Speaker 4: injuries and cornerback have increased his opportunities here. I mean,
- 1:27:47Speaker 4: it's still strange. We saw him come out and play
- 1:27:49Speaker 4: in the slot in the spring and they still said
- 1:27:51Speaker 4: we still view him more as an outside guy with
- 1:27:54Speaker 4: his size. It makes sense, but it just seems like
- 1:27:57Speaker 4: without Marcus Jones, without Sean Wade, he's kind of that
- 1:28:01Speaker 4: guy right now, who's who's you know, I don't know.
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: If you really call him a slot corner. He's just
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: the third corner right now.
- 1:28:06Speaker 5: But that is one thing I do like about their
- 1:28:09Speaker 5: their corners. Their backup corners quote unquote backup do seem
- 1:28:13Speaker 5: like they have a lot of versatility. I'll start, so,
- 1:28:19Speaker 5: I think that ball didn't land in the landing zone, right,
- 1:28:23Speaker 5: I think that might have been why they blue the
- 1:28:25Speaker 5: whistle doesn't have to go in the land.
- 1:28:27Speaker 7: Seemed like the Eagles, Yes, but I thought the Eagles
- 1:28:31Speaker 7: moved before the ball hit the ground. Okay, But either way,
- 1:28:35Speaker 7: it was a procedural penalty for sure, because I just
- 1:28:37Speaker 7: thought there were guys that were way in the back
- 1:28:39Speaker 7: that were throwing flags, and I would think the guys
- 1:28:41Speaker 7: up on the line would be throwing off side.
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: There's a little programming note after the practice, Tamara Brown
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: will be on the field interviewing Pop Douglas one on one.
- 1:28:55Speaker 7: Well, Pop Pop Like anybody else, Tamera can cover Pop
- 1:28:58Speaker 7: one on one another flags, we.
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: Got holding on the return team.
- 1:29:07Speaker 5: Oh boy, And a related no, Brandon School are screaming
- 1:29:10Speaker 5: at the rem No, I'm just kidding. That was last year.
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: Oh boy, guys, oh boy.
- 1:29:28Speaker 5: So yeah, it's not a whole lot to report on
- 1:29:30Speaker 5: when they're just doing no kickoff every uh sort of
- 1:29:35Speaker 5: minute and a half.
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: Then both teams quarterbacks are with each other, kind of just.
- 1:29:42Speaker 5: The Patriots offensive line met behind the end zone for
- 1:29:45Speaker 5: a while while the special teams are going out. Now
- 1:29:47Speaker 5: they're joining the rest of the team.
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: I think we're getting ready for a team eleven and eleven.
- 1:29:52Speaker 7: Yes, yeah, I would assume that we're getting to the
- 1:29:56Speaker 7: party where they're going to just do that where both
- 1:29:59Speaker 7: teams are on their respective side, like almost like a game. Yeah,
- 1:30:02Speaker 7: and uh, and you just go eleven on eleven back
- 1:30:05Speaker 7: and forth for forty five minutes. Now, that's the best part.
- 1:30:08Speaker 5: It's kind of nice without the music here for a moment, actually,
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: Like it's a it's a good constant. I figured if
- 1:30:16Speaker 5: I said that that people would say, oh, of course
- 1:30:18Speaker 5: the old guy doesn't like the music.
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: Boom.
- 1:30:20Speaker 5: Well, sometimes it's just so freaking loud. I mean, honestly,
- 1:30:22Speaker 5: like it's even louder down there on the field. I
- 1:30:24Speaker 5: feel like some of those guys have got to go
- 1:30:26Speaker 5: use the freaking porter pot. He's gonna get their ear
- 1:30:28Speaker 5: drums blasted out. It's right next to the speaker. Poor guys.
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: Got to be able to hear the call. You don't
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: got ear drums, all right, it's probably a good time

- 1:34:35Speaker 1: All right, we are back at Patriots practice high above
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: the practice fields at the Lette Stadium. It's Red Curs,
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: Paul Parolla, Micuso and Ozar Tamarra Brown. And right now
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: the two teams are split up offense defense on opposite
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: sides of the field. On our left, we have the
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: Patriots offense against the Eagles defense, and to the right
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: the other way around. We're getting ready forteen eleven and
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: eleven where they actually mimic a game. So that'll be
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: coming up and probably about fifteen minutes or so. So
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: it was a play.
- 1:35:14Speaker 5: The Eagles had a couple of plays ago a little
- 1:35:16Speaker 5: wheel route to Saquon Barkley.
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: I don't really love.
- 1:35:21Speaker 5: A scheme that has Judon trying to run thirty yards
- 1:35:24Speaker 5: downfield with one of the most explosive pass catching backs
- 1:35:26Speaker 5: in the game.
- 1:35:27Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, it's not necessarily drawn up that way.
- 1:35:29Speaker 7: So they replacement blitz, right, so you send the inside
- 1:35:32Speaker 7: back or Judon drops out into the coverage. Should play
- 1:35:35Speaker 7: by Austin Hooper there, Oh nope, he dropped it, dropped
- 1:35:37Speaker 7: it and it was picked off.
- 1:35:39Speaker 5: I thought he was gonna have that one.
- 1:35:40Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: I thought he went to the ground with it, but
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: he guess he didn't. In the end zone.
- 1:35:49Speaker 7: Passed from Yeah, I mean obviously like they're hoping that
- 1:35:52Speaker 7: that Saquon is just gonna like run into the flat
- 1:35:54Speaker 7: or pick up the blitz or something like that and
- 1:35:56Speaker 7: not put Judon in on him in a wheel route
- 1:35:59Speaker 7: forty yard and down the field. But that pressure actually
- 1:36:02Speaker 7: gets them a lot of a lot of disruptions on
- 1:36:04Speaker 7: the quarterback over the course.
- 1:36:06Speaker 5: Of the season.
- 1:36:06Speaker 7: So it's one of those things that it was just
- 1:36:09Speaker 7: kind of a bad play on that one. But I
- 1:36:12Speaker 7: actually like the scheme.
- 1:36:13Speaker 4: Yeah, overall, it's part of what makes you know, chewed
- 1:36:15Speaker 4: On valuable is that he's a pass rusher they have
- 1:36:18Speaker 4: to account for, so you know, when they're watching him
- 1:36:20Speaker 4: and he pulls out it, you know you're trying to
- 1:36:23Speaker 4: take advantage of their protections.
- 1:36:24Speaker 5: But yeah, that one just.
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: Got a little bit fight.
- 1:36:30Speaker 5: Yeah, Pepper's had a little thing going like a couple.
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: Of plays for oceans perhaps feels like this.
- 1:36:37Speaker 7: The Patriots offense working in like the mid to high
- 1:36:40Speaker 7: red zone right now, right around the fourteen to fifteen
- 1:36:43Speaker 7: yard line. They they ran the ball a little bit
- 1:36:45Speaker 7: better and this stretch.
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: Yeah, a couple of.
- 1:36:48Speaker 5: These plays looked like they were four five yard games. Yeah.
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: I wonder it's supposed to getting stuffed in the back.
- 1:36:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:36:52Speaker 7: I wonder if the offensive line got chewed out a
- 1:36:54Speaker 7: little bit when they went over to break there in
- 1:36:56Speaker 7: the special teams period.
- 1:36:58Speaker 5: They had a little toss to Antonio Gibbs in a
- 1:37:00Speaker 5: few plays ago. I think he might have had had
- 1:37:02Speaker 5: a crease o Pin poll for you, Paul, I did
- 1:37:05Speaker 5: not chart up on some wind. I'll take your word
- 1:37:08Speaker 5: for it.
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: Drake made in the end zone incomplete. Yeah, really had
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: no chance.
- 1:37:16Speaker 5: In that one, oh pin poll.
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:37:24Speaker 5: I thought it was interesting that the Patriots have run
- 1:37:26Speaker 5: their plays in the red zone as as as I've said,
- 1:37:29Speaker 5: mostly the high red zone, whereas the Eagles were starting
- 1:37:32Speaker 5: from the twenty one, like just outside the red zone
- 1:37:35Speaker 5: like when they started this period.
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: Oh boy, blown up screen, Yeah, that was a Rake
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: May had somebody in his face and kind of just
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: threw it away. Yeah, there's a screen.
- 1:37:48Speaker 7: They're trying to set up a screen to the running back,
- 1:37:50Speaker 7: and the pressure got in there too quickly.
- 1:37:53Speaker 5: Gibson was there, but so was a number of other people.
- 1:37:56Speaker 5: I think Bryce the main guy. There's another good run
- 1:38:00Speaker 5: stuff for Dietrich wives. Alright, this is against there. See
- 1:38:18Speaker 5: that was more like when we saw earlier seventy four
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: on the ground. Probably one past attempt so far for
- 1:38:26Speaker 5: Drake Man this this sequence, uh two, one of them
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: was blown up screen.
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: Oh yeah, true, Michael Jordan's who's on the ground. Even
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: that was too easy a little early with some swatting
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: at Eagles player.
- 1:38:45Speaker 7: And the Eagles there are one of those nerd offenses
- 1:38:48Speaker 7: Paul that just said, you know what, f the red zone,
- 1:38:51Speaker 7: F they're down, We're just gonna score from the twenty
- 1:38:54Speaker 7: one instead of having to worry about Yeah, you can
- 1:38:56Speaker 7: do that, you're allowed to. Yeah, yeah, I love that
- 1:38:58Speaker 7: about them.
- 1:39:00Speaker 8: Oh he definitely jumped off sides, didn't They got it?
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: Oh? But also that was definitely it was it was
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: procedure against the Patriots. Did you have a false start,
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: I mean fall start, a break away on May.
- 1:39:28Speaker 5: And a play I think that Baker needed to try
- 1:39:30Speaker 5: to get his feet in bounce on that. He didn't
- 1:39:32Speaker 5: get either one, and I think that was kind of
- 1:39:34Speaker 5: system total system breakdown step. Yep, we're very positive.
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: I'm not trying to.
- 1:39:45Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:39:48Speaker 5: Yeah, everything is hard. There's some good physicality in some
- 1:39:55Speaker 5: of these run places. Now they're down around the five
- 1:39:57Speaker 5: yard lines near into the goal line.
- 1:40:00Speaker 7: All right, so they bring they have these r pos
- 1:40:10Speaker 7: deuce right, and they're running. They're running pure run pass
- 1:40:14Speaker 7: option r pos. And I just wonder when we're going
- 1:40:16Speaker 7: to graduate to the run run pass option version where Drake,
- 1:40:21Speaker 7: where Drake may has the ability. It's like a zone
- 1:40:24Speaker 7: read and an r PO built into one play. That's
- 1:40:26Speaker 7: all you'll see with the Eagles with Hurts, that's what
- 1:40:29Speaker 7: they'll do. I'm just waiting for Drake made it. Just
- 1:40:31Speaker 7: keep one of these off the edge and just walk in.
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: You're set with time. Yeah, no way. This is Austin
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: Hoopah holding on Eagles on the other side of the field.
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: Just realize that's canny. Pick it out there, huh.
- 1:40:59Speaker 5: He to the two gloves acquired to push Jalen Hurt.
- 1:41:03Speaker 5: He actually played a lot in the preseason opener. Oh yeah, Yeah,
- 1:41:10Speaker 5: it's amazing how quickly things change.
- 1:41:12Speaker 8: I feel like they need a good backup though, especially
- 1:41:14Speaker 8: with Jalen Hurts and his availability playing hurt most of
- 1:41:18Speaker 8: last year.
- 1:41:20Speaker 5: It do hurts.
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: So Deon Branch and Corey Dillon here today to Heroes
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: of Super Bowl thirty nine. Corey Dillon was coy.
- 1:41:29Speaker 5: D was awesome. Yeah, got a chance to do a
- 1:41:31Speaker 5: podcast with him yesterday and Matt Nith and I the
- 1:41:34Speaker 5: Pats from the Past, and well, probably not for a
- 1:41:38Speaker 5: while because we got a lot of other stuff going
- 1:41:40Speaker 5: on that we know that people are more interested in
- 1:41:42Speaker 5: right now. But he was great, you know, just talked
- 1:41:46Speaker 5: so glowingly about that two thousand and four season that
- 1:41:50Speaker 5: I and he agreed many others believe it was the
- 1:41:53Speaker 5: best nice job by Brissette finding an open Austin Hooper
- 1:41:57Speaker 5: for a touchdown. I want I'm coming back off a
- 1:42:01Speaker 5: second look I can read.
- 1:42:03Speaker 7: Yeah, they've been running that play a lot where they'll
- 1:42:05Speaker 7: like flood the into the sideline on one side of
- 1:42:07Speaker 7: the field and they'll run like a backside cross or
- 1:42:10Speaker 7: digging digg route and if at first, you know, read
- 1:42:13Speaker 7: isn't open over here, that picture is muddy. He just
- 1:42:15Speaker 7: comes in back into the middle of the field, and
- 1:42:18Speaker 7: Presetts done a nice job work in that progression yesterday too.
- 1:42:20Speaker 7: I thought he made some good throws there that Hurts
- 1:42:24Speaker 7: back out for ye.
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: Now that might have been I think it's also had
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: a good run stop I'm lay before that so.
- 1:42:36Speaker 5: Good. Oh, I laid his way in on that one.
- 1:42:41Speaker 5: I'm giving it to him. Jouldn't Davis is enormous.
- 1:42:48Speaker 4: He is, but I almost feel like he's trimmed down
- 1:42:50Speaker 4: a little bit, Like I mean, he just looks like
- 1:42:51Speaker 4: he's a little better shape to me.
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know if I'm too far away,
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: but those two guys in the Holy.
- 1:42:57Speaker 5: Jumper Dogs literally and figured, Yeah, I'm jealous. Not gonna
- 1:43:08Speaker 5: lie Jardin Davis was all of all of us, or
- 1:43:13Speaker 5: would have been on on that one. I think he
- 1:43:18Speaker 5: went to throw the ball at a popped out of
- 1:43:21Speaker 5: his hands. I think Hurts lost the ball. I think
- 1:43:26Speaker 5: that would have been a fumble on almost.
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: Felt like he saw you. He tried to pull it down.
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: He just couldn't go forward.
- 1:43:31Speaker 5: But yeah, it might have been an incomplete pass when
- 1:43:33Speaker 5: you watch the replay, But I think he was trying
- 1:43:35Speaker 5: to hold the ball yeah, yeah, and I think he
- 1:43:39Speaker 5: just didn't like the coverage.
- 1:43:42Speaker 7: Two things on the offense just now they ran to
- 1:43:44Speaker 7: roll their goal line rollout play, which I hate by
- 1:43:47Speaker 7: the way, and then Jacob were set us through late
- 1:43:50Speaker 7: back into the middle of the field and is almost
- 1:43:52Speaker 7: intercepted that that's not a decision for the steady capable,
- 1:43:58Speaker 7: veteran bridge quarterback that they necessary need. But that roleout
- 1:44:01Speaker 7: play can go in the can.
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: That one.
- 1:44:03Speaker 7: I don't understand what they're trying to accomplish with that.
- 1:44:08Speaker 7: That sprint out has been one of the few successful
- 1:44:10Speaker 7: plays though, No, but this one's different. Like they had
- 1:44:13Speaker 7: to sprint out yesterday where they ran like a pick
- 1:44:15Speaker 7: play for Jalen Polk. This is like a pure rollout
- 1:44:18Speaker 7: where they just have everybody coming, you know, two or
- 1:44:20Speaker 7: three routes coming into the sideline and they cut the
- 1:44:23Speaker 7: field in half. I just I don't care for when
- 1:44:25Speaker 7: you're in the red zone, your space is already really condensed,
- 1:44:28Speaker 7: and now you're going to condense it even more. Where
- 1:44:30Speaker 7: like he has this little box in the end zone
- 1:44:33Speaker 7: that he basically has to get the ball the ball
- 1:44:35Speaker 7: to I'd much rather give him the full field and
- 1:44:38Speaker 7: let him read it out.
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: You say, Patriot's defense stringing together a better reps.
- 1:44:45Speaker 5: As they got close to the goal line. I thought
- 1:44:47Speaker 5: the Patriots defense started to control it. On the other side. Yeah, now,
- 1:44:54Speaker 5: they've been a lot of run plays, but I think
- 1:44:56Speaker 5: the one defense has been stout.
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: In the middle.
- 1:45:01Speaker 6: In the middle, they've had a little room off the edges.
- 1:45:03Speaker 6: But what's up next, Devin, I don't know. We're at
- 1:45:07Speaker 6: twelve o'clock.
- 1:45:08Speaker 7: I would I'd like to hope that we're gonna get
- 1:45:10Speaker 7: some some full field like one field of team. Maybe
- 1:45:15Speaker 7: after this another special teams period, maybe coming up here
- 1:45:18Speaker 7: to get give the big guys a blow. Looks like it.
- 1:45:22Speaker 7: It seems to be the sequencing give the the offensive
- 1:45:28Speaker 7: and defensive lines a breather in beta.
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: I think you're gonna do special teams now until about
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: twelve fifteen, and then we go into team.
- 1:45:40Speaker 5: So my assumption is this will be the Patriots kicking
- 1:45:43Speaker 5: off now, right, your assumption is correct. Yeah, there you go. Yeah,
- 1:45:54Speaker 5: we'll see if we get anything funky with kickoffs. We
- 1:45:58Speaker 5: haven't really seen anything all summer out of the ordinary
- 1:46:01Speaker 5: in that regard. Wow special team. So everybody just decided
- 1:46:08Speaker 5: to take the rest of the segment off. So I'll
- 1:46:11Speaker 5: just tell you there's a lot of standing around on
- 1:46:13Speaker 5: the field. Yeah, I'll riff here. Yeah, I guess some
- 1:46:16Speaker 5: special teams pick off and then well.
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: While, uh, while we're waiting for that, why don't we
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: get some emails?
- 1:46:23Speaker 5: Okay?
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: Can you explain to me why Drake May is not
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: getting any practice with ones? This makes no sense to
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: me on any sort of level. If you're sitting him,
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: wouldn't you want him to build chemistry as the future starter?
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: And if you're going to play them at all in
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: the preseason, it should be with the ones. But it
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: makes no sense to put them out there with the
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: ones if he hasn't practiced with them. I like Mayo
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: as a coach. I like to pick a Drake May
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: and the moves we made with the roster, but the
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: handling of his development by the OC is my greatest concern.
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: That's Ford and Savannah. Yeah, I mean I understand.
- 1:46:56Speaker 5: We just talked about it a little bit, and I
- 1:46:58Speaker 5: have some reservations too, because I don't think it's been
- 1:47:00Speaker 5: enough he has played with the ones, because they don't
- 1:47:03Speaker 5: really have set once. Like I know it might sound
- 1:47:10Speaker 5: two fans like when we say in Vederian Lowe's at
- 1:47:12Speaker 5: left tackle and people think, well that means the backups
- 1:47:15Speaker 5: in but he's been the starting left tackle for over
- 1:47:19Speaker 5: a week now. That's you know, when he when Drake
- 1:47:21Speaker 5: May played in the game, it was with the same
- 1:47:23Speaker 5: offensive line that Weresett played with. That's the ones. So
- 1:47:28Speaker 5: I get I don't think he's played enough, period. I
- 1:47:31Speaker 5: don't think he's got enough snaps in general, and certainly
- 1:47:35Speaker 5: I would say he didn't get enough in the game.
- 1:47:38Speaker 5: But I do think that he's been out there occasionally
- 1:47:40Speaker 5: with ones. You know, I don't really think they have
- 1:47:43Speaker 5: a group of ones.
- 1:47:44Speaker 7: Yeah, you're saying with wide receivers except for to Mario Douglas. Yeah,
- 1:47:47Speaker 7: I think people are obviously just saying the offensive line
- 1:47:51Speaker 7: and be nice to see him especially out there.
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: And then the tackles. It's an issue, so that the
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: tackles are.
- 1:47:57Speaker 5: What I would like to see, is them come out
- 1:47:59Speaker 5: one day in it lead off with Drake May, right,
- 1:48:02Speaker 5: Like it's not necessarily the people that May is playing with.
- 1:48:05Speaker 5: Just sort of like even Thursday night, name him the
- 1:48:09Speaker 5: start or let him prepare for the game, like you're
- 1:48:11Speaker 5: at the starting quarterback tonight. This is what you're gonna
- 1:48:14Speaker 5: get and and go from there. That that's more of
- 1:48:16Speaker 5: a mindset.
- 1:48:17Speaker 7: Yeah, it's it's a tough one because we're not in
- 1:48:20Speaker 7: that we're not truly and we're in the building, but
- 1:48:23Speaker 7: we're not truly in the building, right, and so it's
- 1:48:26Speaker 7: it's tough to say exactly what's going on.
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:48:29Speaker 7: I I love your shows, Paul, and I listened as
- 1:48:32Speaker 7: much as you do. But all they do is speculate
- 1:48:35Speaker 7: based off of what their gut is telling them is
- 1:48:37Speaker 7: actually going on. That's true, and nobody actually knows what's
- 1:48:39Speaker 7: what's going on inside the building. So is Alex van
- 1:48:42Speaker 7: Pelt not? Is he not there yet? Like is he
- 1:48:45Speaker 7: not ready to take on more, you know, of a
- 1:48:47Speaker 7: workload or you know, start to push for start starting
- 1:48:50Speaker 7: reps and things like that, or is this just been
- 1:48:52Speaker 7: the plan? Like my my feeling is is that this
- 1:48:55Speaker 7: has been the plan from day one.
- 1:48:56Speaker 5: That's and and that's what I thought heading in, and
- 1:48:59Speaker 5: that's why I didn't think there was ever any chance.
- 1:49:01Speaker 7: Yeah, I feel like this has been the plan from
- 1:49:03Speaker 7: day one. They were never actually seriously considering him starting
- 1:49:08Speaker 7: week one against the Bengals, So they are getting Jacob
- 1:49:11Speaker 7: Brissett ready to start the season as the starting quarterback,
- 1:49:14Speaker 7: while making sure that Drake May at least gets a
- 1:49:16Speaker 7: high volume of reps relatively in practice. And that's why
- 1:49:20Speaker 7: we don't see Zappi and Milton a whole lot, especially
- 1:49:23Speaker 7: lately in these practices. They've barely repped in practice. So
- 1:49:27Speaker 7: that's where I feel like it is. I don't think
- 1:49:30Speaker 7: it's anything that Drake May's, you know, far behind or
- 1:49:34Speaker 7: further behind them they thought he would be, or anything
- 1:49:36Speaker 7: like that. I just think this was the plan and
- 1:49:38Speaker 7: they're sticking to it.
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: So real quick.
- 1:49:40Speaker 5: I did kind of see a little wrinkle. Joey Sly's
- 1:49:44Speaker 5: last kickoff was definitely angled toward the sideline, and the
- 1:49:48Speaker 5: returner for the Eagles looks like it was Lou Nichols
- 1:49:52Speaker 5: caught it running toward the sideline and he ended up
- 1:49:58Speaker 5: stepping out of bounds if we ruled him out of
- 1:50:00Speaker 5: bounds inside the one yard line. The Eagles coaches were
- 1:50:04Speaker 5: adamant that he hit the pie line, which would have
- 1:50:06Speaker 5: made it a touchback. But be that as it mad,
- 1:50:09Speaker 5: I did think that was a little bit of a
- 1:50:10Speaker 5: wrinkle with the kickoff, with they trying to sort of
- 1:50:13Speaker 5: make a guy make a decision, because most of the
- 1:50:15Speaker 5: kicks have been just traditional high and landing somewhere inside
- 1:50:20Speaker 5: the five yard line. I haven't seen anything a fumble
- 1:50:23Speaker 5: caused by a blocker. Oh and it's gonna be a
- 1:50:25Speaker 5: touchdown for the Patriots, so Michael Hasty in the end zone.
- 1:50:29Speaker 5: I haven't seen anything resembling a kickoff return that looked
- 1:50:33Speaker 5: positive in any way, shape or form. Practice game, other
- 1:50:37Speaker 5: games like this new style, I don't think is going
- 1:50:39Speaker 5: to be they what they were hoping for.
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: Could it be that teams aren't showing their you know,
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: their true blocking schemes yet.
- 1:50:49Speaker 5: I mean, I can't rule anything out because I don't
- 1:50:52Speaker 5: know what what hasn't happened. Yeah, but I just see
- 1:50:56Speaker 5: a lot of guys in a small condensed area and
- 1:50:59Speaker 5: unless someone like falls down, I don't see a lot
- 1:51:02Speaker 5: of room to run, right.
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: I think they did the average.
- 1:51:07Speaker 11: I think the average return was to the thirty last
- 1:51:11Speaker 11: week in all the preseason games.
- 1:51:15Speaker 5: Was it even that far, Yeah, it was certainly wasn't
- 1:51:18Speaker 5: that in the Patriots game.
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: No, it was average was a thirty.
- 1:51:20Speaker 7: No, the Patriots actually was was pretty low compared to
- 1:51:25Speaker 7: the rest of the league, and in terms of average
- 1:51:26Speaker 7: starting field position in the game. But granted, you know
- 1:51:31Speaker 7: there's a lot of punts and stuff like that in
- 1:51:33Speaker 7: that game.
- 1:51:33Speaker 5: To Oh, I was just talking about the kickoffs. Yeah,
- 1:51:35Speaker 5: now we'dge on kickoffs, not on the average.
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: I mean, how many kicks a fight, And this is
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: on the kickoff Eagles. I think this started with that
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: offensive line. I think the Patriots hit a little too
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: hard on that fumble play, and I think this is
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: a carryover from that.
- 1:51:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I was trying to see who the someone blew
- 1:51:59Speaker 5: up a blocker and them into the returner on the
- 1:52:01Speaker 5: fumble play, and I'm not sure if it might have
- 1:52:05Speaker 5: been ninety three and it might have been Schooler because
- 1:52:11Speaker 5: those guys were in the area. But I wasn't sure
- 1:52:13Speaker 5: who it was. But you might be right for it.
- 1:52:15Speaker 5: That might have been why. Yeah, the Eagles took exceptions.
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: This is like two kicks.
- 1:52:19Speaker 5: Actually pretty someone just went down. I don't know if
- 1:52:25Speaker 5: that was real or what.
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: That that was weird.
- 1:52:30Speaker 5: I think you might have just lost his balance. Michael
- 1:52:32Speaker 5: Michael Jordan.
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: I was watching, and.
- 1:52:36Speaker 7: No, it's funny because some it's like half of the
- 1:52:38Speaker 7: team was like joking around and then there was like
- 1:52:41Speaker 7: just a small group of guys in the middle that
- 1:52:44Speaker 7: were actually kind of in the in a little bit
- 1:52:46Speaker 7: of a of a jout.
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: But then like some of the guys were just like
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: messing around. Doglas Pop Douglas was hugging something.
- 1:52:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I think you're I think you're right about Leverett.
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:52:58Speaker 5: I don't think anybody knocked him over. I think he
- 1:53:00Speaker 5: sort of Yeah.
- 1:53:02Speaker 7: No, was somebody like jokingly through through a swing at him,
- 1:53:05Speaker 7: I think, and he like went down like jokingly to
- 1:53:08Speaker 7: be clear. And I also saw Jordan Mylatta from the
- 1:53:11Speaker 7: other field jokingly running over and tell me that is
- 1:53:15Speaker 7: not a guy you want to meet in a dark alley. Okay,
- 1:53:19Speaker 7: a converted rugby player who is an absolute monster.
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: I see the owner doing an interview with ninety eight
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: point five on the field.
- 1:53:28Speaker 4: All right, back to team Perio is here? Uh all right,
- 1:53:34Speaker 4: ev they're on the left field. I'm on the right field.
- 1:53:37Speaker 5: That Nick Leverett at center for this one for the Patriots.
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: They've kind of protected David Andrews a little bit.
- 1:53:43Speaker 5: Here and there too, so I gotta find a backup center.
- 1:53:48Speaker 8: Right.
- 1:53:48Speaker 5: That's a nice That was a decent hole for a
- 1:53:50Speaker 5: reminder to run through yeah. I don't know if the
- 1:53:52Speaker 5: edge guy and the game might have grabbed a hold
- 1:53:55Speaker 5: of him, but if he if he was able to
- 1:53:57Speaker 5: run through that tackle, then.
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: It was a yeah.
- 1:54:02Speaker 5: They got to find a backup center. Like that's I
- 1:54:04Speaker 5: think that's something that's you know, uh on the priority
- 1:54:09Speaker 5: list of this camp to have someone that they feel
- 1:54:11Speaker 5: comfortable with.
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:54:12Speaker 7: I don't know if he's necessarily a backup center for
- 1:54:16Speaker 7: the long haul, but nick Levert's been okay. I would
- 1:54:19Speaker 7: say nick LeVert qualifies as a viable backup center slash guard,
- 1:54:24Speaker 7: a guy that I really can play all three spots
- 1:54:26Speaker 7: on the interior.
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: Your guy had a good run. I did say.
- 1:54:29Speaker 4: I saw that a nice play by Peppers and in
- 1:54:31Speaker 4: the backfield Peppers Willcox caught it.
- 1:54:37Speaker 5: I feel like Wilcox gets a ton of reps.
- 1:54:39Speaker 7: Nice throw there, but you know he was said to
- 1:54:41Speaker 7: like stop him before he got out to the to
- 1:54:44Speaker 7: the boundary corner.
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: He kind of is like a zone.
- 1:54:46Speaker 7: He kind of like sat him down in the zone
- 1:54:48Speaker 7: on the out instead of throwing it into the defender.
- 1:54:55Speaker 5: Zone again, beautiful flat.
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: It's yeah, real right in the bucket that Austin Yeah
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: again right over him. Yeah, yeah, that was the zone.
- 1:55:06Speaker 7: Austin actually made a pretty good play on it to
- 1:55:09Speaker 7: get depth, but it just wasn't enough that the honey hole.
- 1:55:12Speaker 7: That would be the honey hole.
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: Dude, the you got him got them.
- 1:55:20Speaker 5: Nice catch bass, Yeah, nice nice play there though.
- 1:55:24Speaker 7: They ran a wheel route with Austin Hooper and and
- 1:55:27Speaker 7: he got opened down the field for a nice completion.
- 1:55:32Speaker 5: I will say I like the play out of both
- 1:55:34Speaker 5: Willcocks and Hooper today in Hunter Henry's absence. I feel
- 1:55:37Speaker 5: like they're taking advantage of the opportunities. It's your place.
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: Job se al right.
- 1:55:44Speaker 5: That didn't look good.
- 1:55:47Speaker 7: He's all right, Yeah, it looks like he got tangled
- 1:55:50Speaker 7: up there. He's coming out though. Maybe no, No, he's
- 1:55:53Speaker 7: all right.
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: He's okay.
- 1:55:57Speaker 5: Well, I know another okay.
- 1:55:58Speaker 4: I mean, it's just tough of these run plays to
- 1:56:00Speaker 4: know exactly where there's a room where there isn't. But
- 1:56:03Speaker 4: I just think after a rough maybe first period or so,
- 1:56:06Speaker 4: it's not better defenses, at least my present, the defenses
- 1:56:09Speaker 4: tightened up a little bit.
- 1:56:11Speaker 5: But I would say the run defense is good run defense.
- 1:56:13Speaker 5: The past defense is not.
- 1:56:14Speaker 7: Yeah, I would say the run game over here too
- 1:56:16Speaker 7: has been up for the Patriots offense has been better.
- 1:56:19Speaker 7: I mean, they haven't had any huge runs, but they're
- 1:56:22Speaker 7: not getting blown up in the back.
- 1:56:26Speaker 5: PBu there.
- 1:56:29Speaker 6: Yet. Oh it's a good job by Pepper's not getting
- 1:56:37Speaker 6: don't don't I know they'll come running over touch the merchandise. Yeah,
- 1:56:44Speaker 6: Hurts was a little bit behind on the throw.
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: Throw.
- 1:56:50Speaker 4: But you start to see just when a special connection
- 1:56:53Speaker 4: exists between a quarterback and a receiver that it's hard
- 1:56:56Speaker 4: to stop. Man, that doesn't have to be much room
- 1:56:59Speaker 4: for them to make place.
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: I'll start, and we've got something going on here in
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: the Patriots offense.
- 1:57:08Speaker 5: You talking the penalty city about a false star city. Yeah,
- 1:57:11Speaker 5: it looks like a city I use on my radar
- 1:57:16Speaker 5: at least three. So we got to weig got a
- 1:57:21Speaker 5: flag over in the Patriots defensive field too. I don't
- 1:57:26Speaker 5: know who this one's on. Legal man downfield looks like okay.
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: So interesting. After that last flag, Mayo walked over to
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: a VP and kind of, you know, hands up, like
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: palms up, like what's going on? So just getting a
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: little impatient with this, as are the analysts on the ramp. Oh,
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: Pain's got to catch that through the hands of taekwon
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: over the middle.
- 1:57:52Speaker 5: Is that too, what, Yeah, it looks it looks like
- 1:57:54Speaker 5: it looks like I think might have gotten a piece
- 1:57:58Speaker 5: of it. Yeah, I agree based on his reaction. Yeah,
- 1:58:03Speaker 5: balls a little behind that, balls up front, I agree.
- 1:58:06Speaker 5: I think he was open.
- 1:58:07Speaker 1: Yeah. And plus it's not contested catch kind of tough
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: ait not Taekwon Thornton. See lots of guys on the ground.
- 1:58:16Speaker 6: Oh boy, little accident, a little accidental defense there by
- 1:58:20Speaker 6: the Patriots.
- 1:58:20Speaker 5: Yeah, underthrown deep ball had DeVante Smith for another touchdown
- 1:58:24Speaker 5: on one of.
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: Those deep routs. Flag though, those are the yeah in
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: the back of holding on the Eagles.
- 1:58:33Speaker 7: Those are the little throws with Kobe that you notice
- 1:58:38Speaker 7: where it's like the ball placement just is a little
- 1:58:41Speaker 7: bit off, like it's it's in. It's still generally accurate,
- 1:58:44Speaker 7: but yeah, the ball he just needs a little bit
- 1:58:47Speaker 7: further in front and it's behind or you know, a
- 1:58:49Speaker 7: little off the shoulder or whatever. And and those are
- 1:58:51Speaker 7: the differences a lot of the time it might be
- 1:58:59Speaker 7: shoudn't be it Andrews down. For the rest of his practice,
- 1:59:02Speaker 7: Drake May was practicing snaps with coffee leverage in there.
- 1:59:06Speaker 7: Now with with the top three.
- 1:59:10Speaker 5: Good protection oh you can't miss that throw.
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: Yeah, Hooper had at least a step on it down
- 1:59:19Speaker 1: right down the middle of the field and just set
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: overthrow him.
- 1:59:26Speaker 5: There was no safety over the top either, and can't
- 1:59:29Speaker 5: miss that, bro.
- 1:59:29Speaker 1: Yeah you know those don't come open that often. Yeah.
- 1:59:40Speaker 4: Yeah, a lot of work for Jude on today. I
- 1:59:43Speaker 4: wasn't sure what quite what we'd see from him. But
- 1:59:46Speaker 4: that Hurts back in there.
- 1:59:47Speaker 8: Now?
- 1:59:48Speaker 5: Who interesting run by Byremindra? Yeah, du you don't thins
- 1:59:58Speaker 5: be playing at full speed today?
- 1:59:59Speaker 1: Like not?
- 2:00:00Speaker 5: Yeah, that's like job good, good rush. Yeah, pressure run.
- 2:00:07Speaker 5: It looked like to have three or four that would
- 2:00:09Speaker 5: have been a sack.
- 2:00:10Speaker 7: So that was the same pressure that they ran earlier
- 2:00:13Speaker 7: with Judn dropping into coverage, and this time the blitz
- 2:00:16Speaker 7: itself actually got home. He was matched up with Dallas
- 2:00:18Speaker 7: Goddard I think one on one, and uh, if Hurts
- 2:00:21Speaker 7: had any time in there, he would have hey Goddard
- 2:00:24Speaker 7: over the middle. But that's that's what they're trying to
- 2:00:26Speaker 7: get with that pressure. A nice blitz picked.
- 2:00:29Speaker 1: Up spot flags, lots of flags on that pick by
- 2:00:35Speaker 1: the Eagles. We'll see what the call is.
- 2:00:39Speaker 5: Jeremiah Trotter Junior, I don't see it.
- 2:00:41Speaker 1: You see a single by.
- 2:00:43Speaker 4: The refs, I have not seen it. I feel like
- 2:00:45Speaker 4: he was pointed at the Patriots side of things. Scott
- 2:00:48Speaker 4: Peters went over, I think to get some clarification legal
- 2:00:51Speaker 4: face mask or hands to the face or something like that,
- 2:00:54Speaker 4: personal file face mask.
- 2:00:59Speaker 1: Racked it up. Now on with the Eagles side of
- 2:01:01Speaker 1: the feeling.
- 2:01:03Speaker 5: I didn't see the throw. I just saw the results
- 2:01:05Speaker 5: of the Yeah, so there's a blitz, and I thought
- 2:01:07Speaker 5: Gibson actually did a pretty good job picking it up initially,
- 2:01:10Speaker 5: but then he just kind of tried to dump it
- 2:01:12Speaker 5: late over the middle and uh and Jeremiah Trotter Junior
- 2:01:16Speaker 5: just stepped in front of their third pitch.
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: All right, Drake May's turn.
- 2:01:20Speaker 5: This has not been a great day for Jacobi. He's no.
- 2:01:25Speaker 5: I think the offense looks every bit as pedestrian as
- 2:01:28Speaker 5: it hasn't practice.
- 2:01:29Speaker 1: Got Poking Baker out there with him. Yeah.
- 2:01:32Speaker 5: Yeah, it looks like Kashawan Boody is the other outside receiver.
- 2:01:37Speaker 1: It rolled up jerseys.
- 2:01:42Speaker 5: Outside them.
- 2:01:45Speaker 1: Hm uh oh, it's some more uh more feistiness out there.
- 2:01:52Speaker 1: Poking Volve swatched to the helmet. We gotta gotta clean
- 2:01:56Speaker 1: that up, guys, don't let it ask of late.
- 2:02:06Speaker 5: Yeah, we got two's going.
- 2:02:08Speaker 7: I guess on both sides here, see if I can
- 2:02:13Speaker 7: get somebody free down the field for him.
- 2:02:15Speaker 5: I think we're into threes for the Eagles.
- 2:02:17Speaker 1: Yeah, drop, that was a little early contact. It looked like,
- 2:02:26Speaker 1: I don't know, no flag though, like a peck way
- 2:02:32Speaker 1: oh oh geez passed over the middle by the Eagles, bobbled,
- 2:02:38Speaker 1: not caught. Could have been a pick there. Not from
- 2:02:42Speaker 1: Marco though.
- 2:02:43Speaker 4: It seems like Alex Austin the one today getting some
- 2:02:45Speaker 4: more of those reps with Jay Jones out, which it
- 2:02:48Speaker 4: just feels like Marco Wilson Alex Austin kind of going
- 2:02:51Speaker 4: back and forth for that outside spot.
- 2:02:54Speaker 5: Can you tell if that's thirteen or sixteen?
- 2:02:58Speaker 1: Ah?
- 2:03:01Speaker 5: Oh please, sad, not the right side again. Sixteen it's
- 2:03:15Speaker 5: Tan McKeith. Oh okay, stand.
- 2:03:20Speaker 6: You just get to feel that so far they haven't
- 2:03:23Speaker 6: allowed Drake to show his palents, like everything is like
- 2:03:27Speaker 6: are they allowing Drake to be Drake?
- 2:03:29Speaker 1: Do you mean the Eagles are the Patriots? Oh, the Patriots, you.
- 2:03:32Speaker 8: Know, Like.
- 2:03:35Speaker 5: I feel like they're doing it in steps, like.
- 2:03:37Speaker 1: Yeah, it's very very small steps.
- 2:03:40Speaker 5: The last play was a sack over here.
- 2:03:42Speaker 1: Yeah, what do you mean by letting be Drake?
- 2:03:47Speaker 5: Like? It sounds like Fred wants him to be an
- 2:03:50Speaker 5: artist more and actually let it fly and not just
- 2:03:52Speaker 5: just drew a bunch of checkdowns in screens and deep
- 2:03:55Speaker 5: drop and I don't know, it's he wants to see
- 2:03:58Speaker 5: more off plais getting open.
- 2:04:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:04:01Speaker 7: I just think that that like that type of stuff
- 2:04:03Speaker 7: to me is now. But you're trying to practice him
- 2:04:07Speaker 7: being on time and playing on script more so than
- 2:04:10Speaker 7: you are, Like you know that he's gonna be able
- 2:04:13Speaker 7: to do all the off off script.
- 2:04:15Speaker 1: I don't know that. I don't know that at this
- 2:04:17Speaker 1: level that he can do that. I want to see it.
- 2:04:19Speaker 7: I think that's a given, like he's going to have
- 2:04:23Speaker 7: that ability, like he's gonna have the athleticism and all
- 2:04:25Speaker 7: that stuff, but a little deep like sit curl route
- 2:04:31Speaker 7: to Keshan Boudi there. I just think they're trying to
- 2:04:33Speaker 7: get him to play within the structure and then once
- 2:04:36Speaker 7: he goes out into a game and you start seeing
- 2:04:39Speaker 7: that's now, once you start seeing him in games like
- 2:04:44Speaker 7: that's when he can his instincts and his like playmaking
- 2:04:46Speaker 7: ability can take over a little bit. But right now
- 2:04:49Speaker 7: you're you just want to hit stuff on time, because
- 2:04:52Speaker 7: if he has to live off script, like he's gonna
- 2:04:54Speaker 7: have a tough time, you can't.
- 2:04:56Speaker 1: You can't just do that all the time. But like
- 2:04:59Speaker 1: you know, we've seen a little bit of you know,
- 2:05:02Speaker 1: moving on the run and throwing, you know, design plays
- 2:05:05Speaker 1: like that. But i'd like to see that's probably gonna
- 2:05:08Speaker 1: happen Freends.
- 2:05:09Speaker 4: Soill get into the game on Thursday and there'll be
- 2:05:12Speaker 4: like a jail break rush dumb. He'll like squirt out
- 2:05:15Speaker 4: and I could throw on the run and everyone will
- 2:05:16Speaker 4: be like, oh my god, there it is.
- 2:05:18Speaker 1: But like you said, that's a jail break, that's improvisation.
- 2:05:21Speaker 1: I'm about designing it.
- 2:05:24Speaker 8: That.
- 2:05:25Speaker 5: It was a beautiful ball. So I don't know about that, PI.
- 2:05:27Speaker 1: I think that was.
- 2:05:31Speaker 5: I actually didn't think it was offensive either. I just
- 2:05:34Speaker 5: thought there were two guys Jost went the position, but
- 2:05:37Speaker 5: Sack anyways, But yeah, I hear you're saying Freddie he's
- 2:05:41Speaker 5: not They're they're having him played within the confines of
- 2:05:47Speaker 5: the offense and not necessarily using his athleticism a time. Yeah,
- 2:05:52Speaker 5: And I think I can and.
- 2:05:53Speaker 1: Then say that should be part of the offense, using
- 2:05:56Speaker 1: his athleticism. Yeah, I don't think it should always just
- 2:05:59Speaker 1: be because play broke down. I think that should be
- 2:06:03Speaker 1: part of the offense. Oh Jesus, don't get another another flag,
- 2:06:09Speaker 1: another jail break. We're getting killed here.
- 2:06:11Speaker 5: Have a sack.
- 2:06:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:06:17Speaker 5: So I have an observation that I don't like about
- 2:06:20Speaker 5: Drake may on some of those plays when he gets
- 2:06:23Speaker 5: the heavy pressure on a screen, I think he very
- 2:06:25Speaker 5: casually flips the ball away and puts it in harm's way.
- 2:06:28Speaker 5: Man like that ball easily could have been picked off,
- 2:06:32Speaker 5: and then no one's caring about this, you know, the
- 2:06:34Speaker 5: would be sold whatever, you know, the holding call, Yeah,
- 2:06:40Speaker 5: just very sloppy offensively, a lot a lot of penalties,
- 2:06:44Speaker 5: a lot of misassignments.
- 2:06:46Speaker 1: It was funny because, you know.
- 2:06:48Speaker 5: He did our pregame chin wag out there, and then
- 2:06:50Speaker 5: Bart was down there with us, and and and Bart
- 2:06:52Speaker 5: was getting the crowd hyped up about.
- 2:06:54Speaker 1: You know, everything we're gonna learn today, and he's electric.
- 2:06:56Speaker 1: I can't help it.
- 2:06:57Speaker 4: I can't help but feel like he's electric. I haven't
- 2:06:59Speaker 4: really learn anything new. I've just been kind of reinforced
- 2:07:01Speaker 4: with with what I kind of have been seeing. You know,
- 2:07:06Speaker 4: it's just tough for the Patriots offense to really big plays,
- 2:07:10Speaker 4: string plays together.
- 2:07:11Speaker 1: You know, consistency. Yeah, if I would have say plays
- 2:07:14Speaker 1: through this practice. But otherwise, if.
- 2:07:16Speaker 5: I want to say one positive I've seen in the
- 2:07:18Speaker 5: team periods, I think the Patriots front has been stout. Defensively,
- 2:07:23Speaker 5: Patriots defensive front has been stout.
- 2:07:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:07:26Speaker 5: I think they've gotten They look like they've done a
- 2:07:29Speaker 5: good job on the against the run, and I think
- 2:07:31Speaker 5: they've gotten a decent amount of pressure on the passer.
- 2:07:34Speaker 5: Now overall, I would say the Eagles have made a
- 2:07:37Speaker 5: lot of big plays offensively.
- 2:07:39Speaker 1: I don't.
- 2:07:39Speaker 5: I'm not trying to like paint a Rosie picture, but
- 2:07:44Speaker 5: I think that the front has been pretty good for
- 2:07:46Speaker 5: the defense offensively. Really be surgic for something that you liked.
- 2:07:50Speaker 1: I agree. Hey, the fact that always seen so far
- 2:07:53Speaker 1: is we're set in May. Do you think that that's
- 2:07:56Speaker 1: what we'll see in the preseason game.
- 2:07:58Speaker 5: I don't.
- 2:07:59Speaker 1: Now.
- 2:07:59Speaker 5: I think you'll see May. I don't think you're going
- 2:08:01Speaker 5: to see much of her set, but I don't know
- 2:08:02Speaker 5: that for sure.
- 2:08:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I would, I would agree with Paul.
- 2:08:05Speaker 5: I would think I think May is going to start,
- 2:08:07Speaker 5: and I think the other two we're going to play
- 2:08:09Speaker 5: the majority of the game.
- 2:08:10Speaker 1: Okay, oh, I would love that. And he played May
- 2:08:12Speaker 1: for a whole half, for a quarter, It's like we've
- 2:08:18Speaker 1: got two minute drill going on here on the left
- 2:08:19Speaker 1: field a little bit. The situation, Why don't have the
- 2:08:23Speaker 1: time set Hooper again? No good, No, No, that's unfortunate.
- 2:08:37Speaker 5: That's a nice play though. I just I'm thinking of
- 2:08:39Speaker 5: his feet and bounds. Yeah, I mean, if you had
- 2:08:41Speaker 5: to pick somebody who's been stand out on offense, probably Hooper.
- 2:08:45Speaker 5: I mean, ye, Hooper's been the most consistent guy. He's
- 2:08:48Speaker 5: been open, hasn't always comes from the ball where he
- 2:08:52Speaker 5: needs to. I mean, if he didn't have that drop
- 2:08:54Speaker 5: that turned into a pick, it's a bad it's a
- 2:08:58Speaker 5: bad play.
- 2:08:58Speaker 1: You know.
- 2:08:59Speaker 5: It's hard overlook that one. That's fair. But I think
- 2:09:02Speaker 5: he's been the most consistent offensive player.
- 2:09:04Speaker 7: Yeah, they've had problems with him, which is he's not
- 2:09:07Speaker 7: at this stage of his career like a downnfield, dynamic
- 2:09:10Speaker 7: downfield receiver.
- 2:09:11Speaker 1: But he's been opened. We turn him into one. Yeah,
- 2:09:14Speaker 1: that's a good play.
- 2:09:14Speaker 5: Yeah, popping the slot on that those slants is just.
- 2:09:17Speaker 1: Patriots are on their two minutes.
- 2:09:18Speaker 5: David Andrews back in there by the way, I guess,
- 2:09:28Speaker 5: uh waiting for the Patriots sack. Oh sorry, okay, kids
- 2:09:41Speaker 5: don't get that one. Kids don't get that one. Remember
- 2:09:46Speaker 5: sal sal Sally?
- 2:09:51Speaker 1: Yeah, he was alignment for the Patriots.
- 2:09:56Speaker 5: In the early oughts man must have been before. Oh
- 2:09:59Speaker 5: sick is that when you started watching? That's when I
- 2:10:02Speaker 5: got crazy. You didn't start watching week three of one
- 2:10:06Speaker 5: like everybody else. I was in California, Paul, I had
- 2:10:09Speaker 5: that's some stuff going on before I realized the Patriots
- 2:10:11Speaker 5: being wagon and left the station. I need to get
- 2:10:13Speaker 5: on more pressure.
- 2:10:19Speaker 7: Like see that that was caught, but it's to the
- 2:10:22Speaker 7: inside shoulder, like it's lucky that that's not It's similar
- 2:10:26Speaker 7: to the play that Booty had the other night. Yeah,
- 2:10:28Speaker 7: from ZAPPI like, I get it.
- 2:10:30Speaker 5: It's you know, it's a good like I'd rather see
- 2:10:32Speaker 5: the guy open and make it look like it wasn't
- 2:10:34Speaker 5: almost a touchdown the other way.
- 2:10:36Speaker 1: But to be fair, there's good concentration by Rager in
- 2:10:39Speaker 1: traffic and he pulled it down correct, just.
- 2:10:41Speaker 5: Like Booty did good, good job of catching the ball
- 2:10:43Speaker 5: the other night on that play. But I'd rather see
- 2:10:45Speaker 5: him get open. Oh yeah, No, it's a good. It's
- 2:10:47Speaker 5: a good catch by Rager. Like I'm not trying to
- 2:10:50Speaker 5: blame anything on Raager. It just the throw just needs
- 2:10:53Speaker 5: to be into the sideline like he wrong shouldered to
- 2:10:55Speaker 5: throw and that's what gave the defender a chance. And
- 2:10:58Speaker 5: then the next play he tries to run a quick
- 2:11:00Speaker 5: out with the guys right in there. Now there's a
- 2:11:02Speaker 5: flag over there, so I don't know if maybe it's
- 2:11:04Speaker 5: a illegal contact. I didn't see any signal. Looks like
- 2:11:11Speaker 5: Mayo is trying to get the down in distance situated. Yeah,
- 2:11:17Speaker 5: these these slants have been just like pitch and catch
- 2:11:20Speaker 5: for the Eagles. Yea, even with pressure like that one right,
- 2:11:23Speaker 5: it was guys coming and.
- 2:11:26Speaker 1: Got start.
- 2:11:26Speaker 4: Jalen Hurts on those, I mean clearly trusts A. J.
- 2:11:29Speaker 4: Brown And that's just what Brown has. He's got that physicality.
- 2:11:33Speaker 5: Like they're getting pressure though, I will say that now
- 2:11:34Speaker 5: they we're in a little bit of a scrambled drill
- 2:11:36Speaker 5: and he's going to take what he can get.
- 2:11:39Speaker 1: Yeah, those are the place Hurts look great. A few
- 2:11:40Speaker 1: summers ago.
- 2:11:43Speaker 5: On the couple catches in this one from Pots got
- 2:11:47Speaker 5: open on a shallow cross.
- 2:11:48Speaker 1: There down on the red zone.
- 2:11:51Speaker 5: So now that's one off of Hooper's hands.
- 2:11:53Speaker 1: Yeah, could have been caught.
- 2:12:03Speaker 5: Just the execution offensively is not anywhere near where it
- 2:12:06Speaker 5: moves to go.
- 2:12:08Speaker 7: Yeah, it really feels to me when they do have
- 2:12:12Speaker 7: downfield opportunities the passes that set just hasn't been put
- 2:12:17Speaker 7: in the ball in great places and they had uh
- 2:12:21Speaker 7: Hooper that should have been a touchdown down here taekwon
- 2:12:25Speaker 7: over the middle was open, I thought against Darius Lady
- 2:12:27Speaker 7: threw it behind him, Like these are the little throws
- 2:12:30Speaker 7: that they don't have the margin for error for him
- 2:12:32Speaker 7: to to be missing.
- 2:12:35Speaker 1: There.
- 2:12:37Speaker 5: First team offense still going. He s the Patriots first
- 2:12:40Speaker 5: thing defense. But Marco Wilson getting it getting it shot
- 2:12:43Speaker 5: in this kind of situational because it's I guess we're
- 2:12:47Speaker 5: doing a situation on the right bill too. There's no
- 2:12:49Speaker 5: clock going for them. It's nothing I can see.
- 2:12:51Speaker 7: But yeah, but some some good catches from Pop and
- 2:12:54Speaker 7: I agree with Fred that Rager made a good adjustment
- 2:12:57Speaker 7: on that catch that was behind him. So on the
- 2:13:00Speaker 7: inside here a couple of plays for the offense, but.
- 2:13:10Speaker 1: Yeah, covers the early rout no problem money in the bank.
- 2:13:20Speaker 1: A J. Brown. I was watching White on that play.
- 2:13:27Speaker 1: He shaded off center and got double team to just Stone.
- 2:13:31Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:13:31Speaker 5: I mean that's I don't want to judge him off
- 2:13:34Speaker 5: the double team, but it's just it's hard to gets
- 2:13:36Speaker 5: swallowed up.
- 2:13:37Speaker 1: And you know, he doesn't really make guys miss like you.
- 2:13:41Speaker 1: You don't's got that little duck, little shouldered duck.
- 2:13:47Speaker 5: It's too bad. JJ McCarthy knee surgery in Minnesota. No,
- 2:13:52Speaker 5: I thought that he wasn't. I sorry, he wasn't practicing
- 2:13:54Speaker 5: because of the knee injuries. Did he get hurt games? Yeah,
- 2:13:58Speaker 5: I mean, see I got hurt, and uh, why you.
- 2:14:00Speaker 6: Don't play rookies in the preseason? And he was having
- 2:14:02Speaker 6: a good uh for any camp, right mcart Okay.
- 2:14:06Speaker 1: To give the other night, Yeah, had some good handoffs.
- 2:14:11Speaker 5: Through Jack Johnson and how the Patriots defense was jumping
- 2:14:14Speaker 5: off side down there in Yeah, I think that was Wait, all.
- 2:14:19Speaker 7: Right, Drake May is gonna get the two minutes. Drake
- 2:14:21Speaker 7: May excuse me, Jacoby's two minutes just stalled out. I
- 2:14:25Speaker 7: believe they went for and out once they got down.
- 2:14:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:14:28Speaker 7: So they had incomplete to Rager pass breakup incomplete in
- 2:14:34Speaker 7: the back of the end zone and a dropped by
- 2:14:36Speaker 7: Austin Hooper there that.
- 2:14:38Speaker 5: At a rare time where I saw Mario Douglas covered
- 2:14:41Speaker 5: that last play.
- 2:14:46Speaker 7: Now, I'm not sure in the game if some of
- 2:14:50Speaker 7: those negative plays in the early part of the drive
- 2:14:52Speaker 7: might have blown up the drive. But they did get
- 2:14:54Speaker 7: down there on a couple of nice plays.
- 2:14:56Speaker 1: See, that's the thing.
- 2:14:57Speaker 5: And I try to explain that in practice, like everybody's like, oh, well,
- 2:15:00Speaker 5: successful drive. Like, well, I don't know if they would
- 2:15:02Speaker 5: have converted that second and twenty two right after the sack.
- 2:15:05Speaker 7: On first out right, there was one sack in there
- 2:15:08Speaker 7: that probably would have put them in second and eighteen
- 2:15:11Speaker 7: or something like that.
- 2:15:11Speaker 5: And who knows, but.
- 2:15:15Speaker 1: Pressure sacka sure, that's like a stretcher came from behind.
- 2:15:21Speaker 1: May It's just like.
- 2:15:23Speaker 5: If you're doing like the sequence of plays, right, you know,
- 2:15:25Speaker 5: when the Patriots had the ball, you know, they tried
- 2:15:27Speaker 5: to hit like a deep over to Hooper that he
- 2:15:30Speaker 5: wasn't able to get his feed inviounds. Right, So now
- 2:15:32Speaker 5: second and ten, a little shallow cross to Douglas that
- 2:15:35Speaker 5: would have gotten them let's just say five yards.
- 2:15:38Speaker 1: So now it's third and five. That's when the sack happened.
- 2:15:41Speaker 1: The next play was a sack. So now it's now
- 2:15:44Speaker 1: it's fourth and long. Who knows right?
- 2:15:47Speaker 5: I mean like this is the same thing that was
- 2:15:49Speaker 5: a sack by Nolan Smith, no doubt about it. Defensive
- 2:15:51Speaker 5: play there by Hawkins. Smith, Hawkins, a nice job getting
- 2:15:56Speaker 5: underneath Dallas, got her there more pressure.
- 2:15:58Speaker 1: Yeah, other sack. There's your visual letting him loose though
- 2:16:02Speaker 1: that's not what I was had in mind. He was
- 2:16:06Speaker 1: probably sacked on that foot.
- 2:16:07Speaker 5: Get back to back sacks now on yep, I mean
- 2:16:11Speaker 5: he and these are sacks. To be clear that there's
- 2:16:13Speaker 5: no chance.
- 2:16:14Speaker 1: This is two minutes drill right, this is things are
- 2:16:19Speaker 1: supposed to be happening fast. Oh yeah, yeah, you know
- 2:16:29Speaker 1: in all you know that was off the mark by
- 2:16:32Speaker 1: may on that last past. But nobody was open, No,
- 2:16:35Speaker 1: he was coveraged. Nobody was open.
- 2:16:37Speaker 7: Now he's starting to come back round to Keisha on
- 2:16:38Speaker 7: Boodi who is not open. So we have sacks, sacks
- 2:16:42Speaker 7: now that they just called a sack over there that
- 2:16:45Speaker 7: the Patriot might have touched herts on the shoulder. That
- 2:16:50Speaker 7: was a That was a quick whistle. I think the
- 2:16:52Speaker 7: Eagles are upset about it too. That was a really
- 2:16:56Speaker 7: quick whistle.
- 2:16:57Speaker 5: Your boot down here. That looked like another sack. Yeah,
- 2:17:00Speaker 5: he ran by him. That's the guy running down the fields,
- 2:17:04Speaker 5: that Nakobe Dean oh Man, Yeah, seventeen.
- 2:17:09Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like the n Kobe Dean's the Nolan Smith.
- 2:17:14Speaker 5: He's like, yeah, it's like you uh, it's like you're
- 2:17:17Speaker 5: watching the sec from like two years ago, four years ago.
- 2:17:25Speaker 1: It's like, we got a third down and long for
- 2:17:30Speaker 1: the Eagles first team offenses.
- 2:17:31Speaker 5: Yeah, well they just got a sack. They just got sacked.
- 2:17:37Speaker 1: Yeah. That was not a good sequence by either Brissette
- 2:17:40Speaker 1: or may or the Patriots offense right edge here.
- 2:17:46Speaker 5: So he's gotten juice. You got about half of it
- 2:17:58Speaker 5: back the fourth down for the Eagles. Yeah, I mean,
- 2:18:03Speaker 5: you know, good, pretty good. Little pressure from the Patriots.
- 2:18:05Speaker 5: I mean credit to Hurts. He's standing in there making
- 2:18:08Speaker 5: throws under pressure. Wow.
- 2:18:18Speaker 1: Somewhere Matt Morrel is happy.
- 2:18:19Speaker 5: Yes, see his shirt yesterday.
- 2:18:23Speaker 1: It was hard.
- 2:18:24Speaker 5: So it sounds like a meniscous injury for JJ McCarthy.
- 2:18:29Speaker 5: That's not good.
- 2:18:29Speaker 7: But they're saying it's gonna be a trim, not a
- 2:18:31Speaker 7: full repair, so they're hoping he's gonna that's a couple
- 2:18:34Speaker 7: of months. It would be Sam Darnold to start the
- 2:18:37Speaker 7: season at least.
- 2:18:41Speaker 1: It's too bad.
- 2:18:45Speaker 5: Jesus, I guess that's a touchdown. Yes, they blew the whistle.
- 2:18:53Speaker 5: It just gave him a first down, but they converted that.
- 2:18:55Speaker 5: It was like a fourth and six or seven. They
- 2:18:57Speaker 5: converted that easy under Sures just flicked it out there.
- 2:19:02Speaker 7: I think that they're saying the time ran out on
- 2:19:04Speaker 7: the clock. Yeah, yeah, because he threw it in the
- 2:19:06Speaker 7: middle of the field and then Alex Austin tackled aj Brown. Okay, yeah,
- 2:19:11Speaker 7: he tackled him, Paul, he tackled I'm not even sure
- 2:19:14Speaker 7: he ever touched it.
- 2:19:16Speaker 5: If it was one hand touch, I think he almost gone. Yeah,
- 2:19:18Speaker 5: they said it happened in the middle of the field.
- 2:19:20Speaker 5: You don't have you don't have any time out, so
- 2:19:21Speaker 5: I will say this right, but you like, that's a
- 2:19:25Speaker 5: lot of context there, Like if that's truly a fourth
- 2:19:28Speaker 5: down play with less than fifteen seconds left and the
- 2:19:32Speaker 5: Eagles have no timeouts, that's not bad defense. Yeah, that's
- 2:19:36Speaker 5: like you give him something in the middle of the field.
- 2:19:38Speaker 5: They can't get another playoffs right now. I would argue
- 2:19:42Speaker 5: that he was not close enough to make a tackle
- 2:19:44Speaker 5: and there was nobody else over there. But that's some
- 2:19:48Speaker 5: context that lends to it, like, right, that's kind of
- 2:19:50Speaker 5: what you're supposed to do, right, right, Just Joe Milton
- 2:19:54Speaker 5: getting a little uh little rep rep here at the
- 2:19:58Speaker 5: end of practice.
- 2:20:00Speaker 1: Did he rep.
- 2:20:03Speaker 5: Starting at the fifty fumble the snap and he runs
- 2:20:07Speaker 5: for seventeen yards and the cop goes wild. It's a
- 2:20:10Speaker 5: repeat of Thursday night. Yeah, that did not happen.
- 2:20:15Speaker 1: He did not run for thirty yuys. No, he simply
- 2:20:18Speaker 1: picked up the snap, walked back to the bottle. Other field.
- 2:20:23Speaker 1: We got picket going against a picket and stick. Yeah.
- 2:20:27Speaker 5: Second, so I'd assume that this we're running down here.
- 2:20:31Speaker 7: Yeah, Yeah, I thought that the that Drake May started
- 2:20:34Speaker 7: out okay today, looked pretty good in that first elevens
- 2:20:38Speaker 7: round that he had, and then, like everything else with
- 2:20:41Speaker 7: the offense, it quickly went off the rails after that.
- 2:20:43Speaker 7: But that last hurry up that he had, I'm just
- 2:20:48Speaker 7: I'm not trying to make excuses for him, but I
- 2:20:50Speaker 7: just don't know what else he's supposed to do with
- 2:20:52Speaker 7: three sacks on the four place. Yeah, And it's not
- 2:20:55Speaker 7: like he's holding the ball back there either, Like there's
- 2:20:57Speaker 7: a there's pressure coming in a timely man, and it's
- 2:21:01Speaker 7: I just don't know what he's supposed to do. The
- 2:21:04Speaker 7: one pass he did get off was an incompletion that
- 2:21:06Speaker 7: Keshon Boudi, who was blanketed in by the coverage.
- 2:21:08Speaker 1: It's just it's top Well, listen, if I'm if I'm
- 2:21:16Speaker 1: a Patriots coach right now, what this practice is telling
- 2:21:21Speaker 1: me is how much work we have to do. And
- 2:21:23Speaker 1: it's a lot. And yeah, I mean I and there's
- 2:21:29Speaker 1: definitely a talent disparity between these two teams. Oh we
- 2:21:32Speaker 1: drop it.
- 2:21:34Speaker 5: Yeah, Milton tried to hit Chakway Jackson, his new favorite target.
- 2:21:37Speaker 5: I think twenty seven got a hand in it, and
- 2:21:39Speaker 5: it looked like forty something forty three maybe had a
- 2:21:42Speaker 5: chance with a deflection, but dropped it.
- 2:21:45Speaker 4: I think the point of what Evan's been saying a
- 2:21:47Speaker 4: little bit, I mean everybody's really been hinting at is
- 2:21:50Speaker 4: you know, we see just a little bit how limited
- 2:21:52Speaker 4: Jacoby Brissett really is on some of these downfield passes,
- 2:21:56Speaker 4: and you know, at some point the drum beats just
- 2:21:58Speaker 4: I mean, we're not going to get it this last
- 2:22:00Speaker 4: stay of training camp, so it's going to be behind
- 2:22:01Speaker 4: the scenes. But yeah, give Drake May a chance behind
- 2:22:05Speaker 4: your best offensive line. It's you know, see if if
- 2:22:08Speaker 4: he's going to make those downfield throws and you know,
- 2:22:10Speaker 4: it's I mean, I feel like that's the route that
- 2:22:12Speaker 4: it's gonna have to be behind the scenes for Drake
- 2:22:14Speaker 4: May to get in this year and really, you know,
- 2:22:16Speaker 4: start playing.
- 2:22:18Speaker 5: Is he's got to show that well.
- 2:22:20Speaker 1: I think it might not be perfect, but I think
- 2:22:21Speaker 1: it comes down to how bad or decent do you
- 2:22:26Speaker 1: think that this offensive line truly is. If it's as
- 2:22:29Speaker 1: bad as some of the critics say, then what's the
- 2:22:31Speaker 1: point of putting May out? If you can't operate the offense,
- 2:22:33Speaker 1: what's the point. But if you think it's decent, then
- 2:22:36Speaker 1: I'm with you, Duce. Let's let's see what you can do.
- 2:22:38Speaker 7: And that's probably what the first month of the season
- 2:22:40Speaker 7: will be, will be gauging how bad and how frankly,
- 2:22:44Speaker 7: how how dangerous it kind of is to put him
- 2:22:46Speaker 7: in there behind and off the offensive line. Like if
- 2:22:49Speaker 7: if they're okay for the first you know, the month
- 2:22:51Speaker 7: of September, maybe in October up front, and it's not
- 2:22:54Speaker 7: gonna be great, but maybe they're just okay, then oh boy,
- 2:22:57Speaker 7: then you can you can put him back there at
- 2:22:58Speaker 7: some point but the throws that I see with Jacoby
- 2:23:01Speaker 7: Brissetter just it's just little little things here with his
- 2:23:05Speaker 7: accuracy where it's just not quite good enough. Like it's
- 2:23:08Speaker 7: not that it's terrible, you know that he's can't hit
- 2:23:11Speaker 7: the broadside of a barn type of thing, but it's just.
- 2:23:14Speaker 1: He's off by like half.
- 2:23:15Speaker 7: It it's not Tim Tebow. Yeah, no, it's not Tim
- 2:23:18Speaker 7: Tebow by any means. But he's just off by that
- 2:23:20Speaker 7: little bit that makes a difference in the NFL. His eyes,
- 2:23:24Speaker 7: like his reads are good. You know, he's going the
- 2:23:26Speaker 7: right places with the ball more times than not. But
- 2:23:29Speaker 7: he you know, he just throws a.
- 2:23:30Speaker 5: Little behind or it's a little bit beautiful, throw a
- 2:23:34Speaker 5: little overthrow.
- 2:23:36Speaker 1: What happens?
- 2:23:36Speaker 4: You see that The contrast with Jalen Hurns and A J. Brown,
- 2:23:38Speaker 4: though it says, you know, when under pressure on the move,
- 2:23:41Speaker 4: gott to drop it right in there. I mean, those
- 2:23:43Speaker 4: guys have a special connection. And you know, I think
- 2:23:46Speaker 4: Pop Dougles seems like an effected piece in the middle
- 2:23:48Speaker 4: of the field.
- 2:23:49Speaker 1: But there just isn't a.
- 2:23:51Speaker 4: Special connection on the Patriots offense right now that you know,
- 2:23:53Speaker 4: when I got to have it moment with it on
- 2:23:55Speaker 4: the line that.
- 2:23:56Speaker 5: So I think, just you know, early, just looking at
- 2:24:00Speaker 5: we're gonna get some snabs for Zappi here in the
- 2:24:03Speaker 5: last two minutes. It would seem to me that unless
- 2:24:07Speaker 5: to Mario Douglas can make a lot of guys miss
- 2:24:10Speaker 5: after those catches another sack, I just don't see any
- 2:24:14Speaker 5: any ability to strink together plays offensively. Now Douglas gets
- 2:24:18Speaker 5: open like like no one's business on those little shallow
- 2:24:21Speaker 5: crosses and the quick slants and all that, he's almost uncoverable.
- 2:24:25Speaker 5: But do they result in five yard games or are
- 2:24:27Speaker 5: they resulting in twelve yard games? It's a big difference.
- 2:24:30Speaker 7: And how many times is he taking body blows because
- 2:24:32Speaker 7: he's over the middle of the field wreck it's a
- 2:24:34Speaker 7: hard way to live. And can he stay healthy off those?
- 2:24:36Speaker 5: Yeah, it's And if you've got to think about with
- 2:24:39Speaker 5: the run game, the run game isn't you know, above
- 2:24:42Speaker 5: average at least, like what's just gonna stop piece from
- 2:24:45Speaker 5: me like we're just gonna flood the middle of the field.
- 2:24:48Speaker 5: I think you're you're well worn phrase. I think is
- 2:24:52Speaker 5: going to be continuing to be relevant to defend. They
- 2:24:56Speaker 5: are easy to defend.
- 2:24:57Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, go ahead, try to beat us deep with
- 2:25:00Speaker 1: techwonkord you have.
- 2:25:03Speaker 7: I definitely the run game is such a big part
- 2:25:06Speaker 7: of it because if they can at least move the
- 2:25:08Speaker 7: ball a little bit on the ground and stay ahead
- 2:25:10Speaker 7: of the chains, and then you can have play action
- 2:25:12Speaker 7: and different things that the scheme kind of does a
- 2:25:16Speaker 7: lot of the heavy lifting to get guys open and
- 2:25:18Speaker 7: create advantageous downfield separation and things like that, then maybe
- 2:25:22Speaker 7: they can generate some consistent offense that way. But we
- 2:25:26Speaker 7: just haven't seen that. We haven't seen the run game
- 2:25:28Speaker 7: married to the play action and having it all buttoned
- 2:25:31Speaker 7: up in some perfect way yet in practice. But like,
- 2:25:34Speaker 7: maybe they get there over the next three weeks. Like
- 2:25:36Speaker 7: I'm not going to rule it out. It just seems
- 2:25:39Speaker 7: like that's their hope, is that first and second down
- 2:25:42Speaker 7: we're gonna be run second and four. Okay, Now we
- 2:25:45Speaker 7: can dial it up, you know differently with play action
- 2:25:48Speaker 7: things like that. That's how you get guys open that
- 2:25:50Speaker 7: aren't aj Brown right is' you're going into a single
- 2:25:54Speaker 7: high coverage or misdirection play action off the boot leg.
- 2:25:58Speaker 7: You know, now all of a sudden, you're winning foot
- 2:26:00Speaker 7: race across the middle of the field. That that those
- 2:26:02Speaker 7: are the little things that you can do. But if
- 2:26:04Speaker 7: that's not what they're able to do with the sequencing
- 2:26:07Speaker 7: of the play is at the run game, staying ahead
- 2:26:09Speaker 7: of the chains, and then they're gonna get behind. And
- 2:26:11Speaker 7: then to Paul's point, it's first and ten is going
- 2:26:14Speaker 7: to become second and eight, and then second and eight
- 2:26:15Speaker 7: it's gonna become third and eight, and then it's you know,
- 2:26:17Speaker 7: off the field, and that those are where you worry
- 2:26:20Speaker 7: about this team right now.
- 2:26:21Speaker 4: I just, I mean, I don't know if we're going
- 2:26:22Speaker 4: to get to watch any more practices or if we'll
- 2:26:25Speaker 4: go into you know, media lockdown just for stretching or whatever.
- 2:26:27Speaker 4: But I mean, I just I kind of feel like
- 2:26:29Speaker 4: I'm in the same place that I've been the last
- 2:26:31Speaker 4: two years, which you know, I don't know if it
- 2:26:33Speaker 4: that there has been maybe a tiny bit more of
- 2:26:35Speaker 4: promise here in Spurts, but overall it's just you kind
- 2:26:39Speaker 4: of just hold your breath and we're going into the
- 2:26:40Speaker 4: regular season and hopefully once they're actually scheming a game
- 2:26:43Speaker 4: plan and like it'll all come together.
- 2:26:45Speaker 5: But that's a good I don't know, the game playing
- 2:26:47Speaker 5: part is a good point, Like you know, what kind
- 2:26:51Speaker 5: of ability. Do they have to look at the other
- 2:26:53Speaker 5: team's UH defense and figure out a scheme that is
- 2:26:58Speaker 5: best for that week. Can they consistently do that well?
- 2:27:01Speaker 5: Because we know they're going to continue to be a
- 2:27:03Speaker 5: game playing team. Mayo said that a million times, So
- 2:27:07Speaker 5: can they Can they win during the week because I
- 2:27:11Speaker 5: don't think they're necessarily going to win matchups and you know,
- 2:27:14Speaker 5: one on one physical matchups.
- 2:27:17Speaker 1: Two years and what was ultimately the answer, No, not
- 2:27:19Speaker 1: often enough.
- 2:27:20Speaker 5: You know, Like I think back, you know, like the
- 2:27:24Speaker 5: Jets game last year, the first Jets game that they won,
- 2:27:26Speaker 5: you know, like they scheme it up and they get
- 2:27:29Speaker 5: Farrell Brown wide open, you know for a long touchdown.
- 2:27:33Speaker 5: You know, like, but you just didn't get enough of that.
- 2:27:36Speaker 5: You know, it's the one that everybody always brings up
- 2:27:38Speaker 5: as an example. Can you do that consistently enough to
- 2:27:41Speaker 5: keep you competitive in games and find a way to
- 2:27:43Speaker 5: win some games? And I think that's going to be
- 2:27:45Speaker 5: a tough task on the you know, on the coaching
- 2:27:48Speaker 5: staff that the onus is going to be on Alex
- 2:27:49Speaker 5: man Pelt and in his offensive coaches to figure out
- 2:27:53Speaker 5: ways because I think Evan said it perfectly, like that's
- 2:27:57Speaker 5: how you have to get guys open who aren't a j.
- 2:27:59Speaker 1: Brown. So just a reminder, we're gonna have Tamara Brown
- 2:28:03Speaker 1: with Pop Douglas after practice down on the field, so
- 2:28:07Speaker 1: that'll be coming up.
- 2:28:09Speaker 5: Definitely looks like it's rapid, Yeah soon. Yeah, Patriots offense
- 2:28:13Speaker 5: is done for the day. They just blew a horn.
- 2:28:16Speaker 5: I think that's gonna put an end to the day.
- 2:28:18Speaker 5: They had like four stringers out there on the other field,
- 2:28:22Speaker 5: but I think that might just about do it. Here.
- 2:28:25Speaker 1: Teams of both teams have come together son of saying
- 2:28:29Speaker 1: thank you to each other.
- 2:28:31Speaker 5: Not ovally chippy, pushing a little pushing shoven once in
- 2:28:34Speaker 5: a while, but not overly chippy.
- 2:28:36Speaker 1: I thought, not like what's happened in other practices around
- 2:28:38Speaker 1: the league.
- 2:28:40Speaker 5: Elite neighbors.
- 2:28:42Speaker 1: Yeah you got got a little shot in running back
- 2:28:46Speaker 1: little Steff Armand's face mask.
- 2:28:48Speaker 5: I will punch.
- 2:28:51Speaker 1: Both teams bringing it in.
- 2:28:56Speaker 5: A little surprise. They didn't do any field goal work.
- 2:28:59Speaker 1: Yeah, do that on your own time.
- 2:29:01Speaker 5: Oh, I agree. I didn't say I'm upset about it.
- 2:29:03Speaker 5: I'm just a little surprised.
- 2:29:06Speaker 7: Fred, And I know you said this earlier, and I
- 2:29:08Speaker 7: think it's a fair statement because we we were pretty
- 2:29:11Speaker 7: critical of what we saw Offensively, it is very apparent
- 2:29:16Speaker 7: that one team here has has very high aspirations, another
- 2:29:20Speaker 7: team is in a rebuild. And if you thought that
- 2:29:22Speaker 7: we were going to come out here today and the
- 2:29:23Speaker 7: Patriots were going to be lighting up the Eagles defense,
- 2:29:27Speaker 7: you were lying to yourself.
- 2:29:28Speaker 1: For being naive like this.
- 2:29:30Speaker 7: This was very clearly a day where one team could
- 2:29:33Speaker 7: potentially win a Super Bowl this year and the other
- 2:29:35Speaker 7: team is still trying to figure itself out. And that
- 2:29:38Speaker 7: that's what we saw. That's how it played out. There
- 2:29:39Speaker 7: a few plays kind.
- 2:29:40Speaker 1: Of like when Northeastern plays the Red Sox and exhibition.
- 2:29:43Speaker 1: I don't think that bad.
- 2:29:46Speaker 5: Scrappy Huskies usually lose that game, like three to one.
- 2:29:49Speaker 7: But there was a few plays here or there that
- 2:29:51Speaker 7: popped off for the Patriots offense, you know, one Hooper
- 2:29:54Speaker 7: wheel rowed and Pop Douglas plays here and there. But
- 2:29:58Speaker 7: the consistency to be able to drive the ball just
- 2:30:01Speaker 7: it just wasn't there because of all the issues that
- 2:30:03Speaker 7: the Eagles were causing. So that's what happened. So it's
- 2:30:07Speaker 7: not like it was a complete train wreck. It just
- 2:30:09Speaker 7: that's what happens when you're you're a good team versus
- 2:30:11Speaker 7: a team that was picking third overall last year.
- 2:30:14Speaker 4: How would you compare this up to what you saw
- 2:30:16Speaker 4: in Green Bay from the Patriots offense last year and
- 2:30:18Speaker 4: joint practices?
- 2:30:19Speaker 7: You know, I think last year in Green Bay I
- 2:30:21Speaker 7: probably didn't give enough credence to the fact that there
- 2:30:24Speaker 7: was probably more pressure on the quarterback than maybe what
- 2:30:27Speaker 7: you were realizing live. I thought there, I thought the
- 2:30:30Speaker 7: Patriots offense looked better last year in Green Bay than
- 2:30:33Speaker 7: this today, to be to be fair to what happened,
- 2:30:37Speaker 7: but I didn't think that it was worlds better. I
- 2:30:41Speaker 7: think it was the same where it was like these
- 2:30:43Speaker 7: isolated you know, I always remember I can still see
- 2:30:46Speaker 7: the Devonte Parker catch, you know, in the end zone
- 2:30:50Speaker 7: towards the end of the first day of practice there
- 2:30:52Speaker 7: in Green Bay, and like that, those plays in isolated
- 2:30:57Speaker 7: flashes happened here today to a little bit. So I
- 2:31:00Speaker 7: would say it's same ballpark. But last year was I
- 2:31:04Speaker 7: thought a little bit better.
- 2:31:08Speaker 1: Well, I mean makes sense, this is an offense that's
- 2:31:11Speaker 1: building its way from the ground up. Yeah.
- 2:31:15Speaker 7: The biggest concerns to me on the offensive line still
- 2:31:19Speaker 7: bull tackle spots seem like major concerns. Chukes is settled
- 2:31:23Speaker 7: down a little bit now that he's back at right tackle,
- 2:31:26Speaker 7: but he's not a he's not an impact right tackle.
- 2:31:28Speaker 7: Like you're just hoping that he's gonna tread water at
- 2:31:31Speaker 7: that spot on the right side. And then if City
- 2:31:34Speaker 7: So is gonna take us to any sort of step
- 2:31:36Speaker 7: back and that interior is not going to be rock solid.
- 2:31:39Speaker 7: Now you're dealing with two and a half to three
- 2:31:43Speaker 7: deficiencies on the offensive line. I was hoping that we
- 2:31:46Speaker 7: were just going to be able to say that City
- 2:31:47Speaker 7: So was just an entrench starter, don't worry about him.
- 2:31:51Speaker 5: But I mean, like, we get those three guys on
- 2:31:53Speaker 5: the inside, we feel really good about them, and we're
- 2:31:56Speaker 5: gonna go with the Tom Brady theory that that's really
- 2:31:58Speaker 5: the most important, right. I can't have that your pressure. Yeah,
- 2:32:01Speaker 5: we saw some material pressure today. Yeah, and it's a
- 2:32:03Speaker 5: really good interior defensive line. But City in the game
- 2:32:07Speaker 5: last week, I thought struggled a little bit, and then
- 2:32:09Speaker 5: I thought he struggled a little bit out here today.
- 2:32:11Speaker 5: So he's one player that maybe at some point they
- 2:32:16Speaker 5: give Laden Robinson a look. While I thought was decent
- 2:32:18Speaker 5: on Thursday night with you, Yeah, maybe maybe he's someone
- 2:32:22Speaker 5: that starts pushing for some playing time there at left guard,
- 2:32:26Speaker 5: but I I just was hoping for a little bit
- 2:32:28Speaker 5: more there because then all right, so yes, it's a
- 2:32:31Speaker 5: major major hole to say left tackle is an issue
- 2:32:34Speaker 5: for this team, but at least it's just one spot
- 2:32:37Speaker 5: that's truly gonna be a weak point, and and you
- 2:32:40Speaker 5: you can roll the pocket out the other way. You
- 2:32:42Speaker 5: can do different things to try to slide the protection ship,
- 2:32:46Speaker 5: the tight ends like whatever on the left side to
- 2:32:49Speaker 5: help Outvederian Low. It's it's hard to do when there's
- 2:32:52Speaker 5: there's spots all over the place that are that are leaking.
- 2:32:54Speaker 4: I think it was hard for me was just watching
- 2:32:56Speaker 4: that preseason game and then we came back out here
- 2:32:58Speaker 4: this weekend and it was this grow and you know,
- 2:33:01Speaker 4: I guess you can at least fool yourself when they're
- 2:33:03Speaker 4: kind of rotating guys in those early days of camp
- 2:33:05Speaker 4: where I was kind of getting a look at everybody.
- 2:33:07Speaker 4: But I guess it's hard for me watching some of
- 2:33:11Speaker 4: that with Viderian lo close that they came back out
- 2:33:14Speaker 4: and they're like, yeah, no, we still we still got.
- 2:33:16Speaker 1: To roll with him.
- 2:33:17Speaker 5: The interviews are starting down there, can you see is
- 2:33:20Speaker 5: that is that Stevenson? Maybe I see Austin Hooper over
- 2:33:23Speaker 5: here Stevenson yet, so we are supposed to hear from
- 2:33:29Speaker 5: Drake May today. At least that was the pre practice plan,
- 2:33:33Speaker 5: right if they let us know.
- 2:33:35Speaker 1: You got to Kobe yesterday and I'm in a head
- 2:33:38Speaker 1: down there Drake today.
- 2:33:40Speaker 5: All right, I'll hang up here with Freddy until we
- 2:33:44Speaker 5: get to Mario Douglas and then I'll let you guys
- 2:33:47Speaker 5: do the heavy lifting with with.
- 2:33:50Speaker 1: Pop Pop Pop Pop goes the Weasel. Yeah, I'm trying
- 2:33:55Speaker 1: to get my eyes on number three pop O. There
- 2:34:01Speaker 1: he is. He's kind of hanging around the sideline, not
- 2:34:04Speaker 1: any hurry, both teams are kind of I don't see him. Yeah,
- 2:34:09Speaker 1: he's talking to somebody from the Eagle staff. Oh no,
- 2:34:16Speaker 1: he's by himself, doing nothing.
- 2:34:20Speaker 4: Just thinking about his life, Yeah, about his choices. How
- 2:34:23Speaker 4: about getting that interview out of the way real quick.
- 2:34:26Speaker 5: Sure, that's uh mind, I can't find it.
- 2:34:29Speaker 1: Yeah, he's on the sideline. Oh, I see him shaking hand. Yeah,
- 2:34:34Speaker 1: I see him. I see him. I see him.
- 2:34:36Speaker 5: I got eyes on him.
- 2:34:37Speaker 1: I'm on it. Yeah.
- 2:34:40Speaker 5: I thought like what you guys said was kind of right,
- 2:34:43Speaker 5: Like I kind of expected it. To be a challenging day.
- 2:34:49Speaker 5: I would choose to look at the positive. I thought
- 2:34:50Speaker 5: the physicality on defense was was there Because I'm one,
- 2:34:54Speaker 5: unlike most, I'm a little worried about the defense. I
- 2:34:57Speaker 5: don't think it was as good as a lot of
- 2:34:59Speaker 5: people think it was last year. And I and I'm
- 2:35:02Speaker 5: concerned about the loss of brain power. Yeah, with with
- 2:35:05Speaker 5: Bill and Steve Belichick and you know, obviously far more.
- 2:35:10Speaker 5: But I thought I thought the front seven acquitted itself
- 2:35:13Speaker 5: pretty well today.
- 2:35:14Speaker 1: I agree.
- 2:35:15Speaker 4: I mean, I just think it's what you have to
- 2:35:16Speaker 4: hold on to right now, because, let's face it, the offense,
- 2:35:20Speaker 4: like we said, it's just it's their plays here and there,
- 2:35:22Speaker 4: but you know, not a lot of consistency, not a
- 2:35:24Speaker 4: lot of like all right, they're starting to find kind
- 2:35:27Speaker 4: of their plays and their identity and.
- 2:35:28Speaker 5: Who they are hard to know. But the defense, you
- 2:35:31Speaker 5: just have to convince yourself because that's where the talent is.
- 2:35:34Speaker 5: But your point, Paul, about the brain drain, and you know, no,
- 2:35:37Speaker 5: no longer Bill Belichick coming up with those game plans.
- 2:35:40Speaker 1: Uh, you know, I just I with the point.
- 2:35:42Speaker 4: I'm att after watching the offense kind of look again
- 2:35:44Speaker 4: like they they've kind of looked against the Patriots defense.
- 2:35:46Speaker 4: It's you've really got to hope that that this defense
- 2:35:49Speaker 4: is his top notch and is you know, going to
- 2:35:52Speaker 4: be able to keep these games close? Because right now,
- 2:35:54Speaker 4: the the offensive line and just the ability of the
- 2:35:57Speaker 4: offense to get going and establish rhythm and you know,
- 2:36:01Speaker 4: put the defense on their heels. Like I just you
- 2:36:03Speaker 4: haven't really seen any of those kind of moments. And
- 2:36:05Speaker 4: then granted they don't do situational stuff to the extreme
- 2:36:08Speaker 4: that Belichick did.
- 2:36:10Speaker 5: Yeah, I would have some concern just in general a
- 2:36:15Speaker 5: corner to pass. Yeah, the passing game, Like I thought
- 2:36:18Speaker 5: most of the passes the Eagles through today were complete. Now,
- 2:36:21Speaker 5: I thought the Patriots got a good amount of pressure
- 2:36:24Speaker 5: which prevented them from really really tearing it up, you
- 2:36:27Speaker 5: know what I mean. I think, you know, they would
- 2:36:29Speaker 5: get a completion of Smith, a completion of Brown, and
- 2:36:31Speaker 5: then they get some pressure on Hurts and make them
- 2:36:34Speaker 5: pull the ball down and run around, which sort of
- 2:36:37Speaker 5: sort of stem the tide. I think they're gonna be
- 2:36:40Speaker 5: hard pressed to prevent completions on a regular basis, so
- 2:36:44Speaker 5: they better get some pressure and with no bar more. Yep,
- 2:36:48Speaker 5: you know, if you lose Jude on. You know, if
- 2:36:50Speaker 5: you end up trading him or whatever, he doesn't want
- 2:36:53Speaker 5: to play for whatever reason. I do wonder where you
- 2:36:56Speaker 5: get that pressure from.
- 2:36:57Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I mean you saw a little of it
- 2:36:59Speaker 4: of scheming it up today with you know, Pepper's coming
- 2:37:01Speaker 4: off the edge, Dug or coming off the edge here
- 2:37:03Speaker 4: and there. I mean, they're always going to play with
- 2:37:04Speaker 4: those safeties. But tough way to live it is. It's
- 2:37:07Speaker 4: you know, to have to rely on scheme.
- 2:37:09Speaker 5: Yeah, it right, tough way right right.
- 2:37:11Speaker 4: And that's you know for so long that was you
- 2:37:13Speaker 4: know when the Patriots defense under Belichick kind of had
- 2:37:15Speaker 4: a lull and you know, nine, ten eleven still went
- 2:37:19Speaker 4: to the super Bowl, but you know those defenses were
- 2:37:21Speaker 4: pretty rough, Yeah, because you didn't have the you know,
- 2:37:24Speaker 4: the front you need. You needed the high towers, You
- 2:37:27Speaker 4: needed the Chandler Joneses of the world. You know, you
- 2:37:29Speaker 4: need those guys who who can win one on one matchups.
- 2:37:32Speaker 4: And I mean it's the same thing on the offensive
- 2:37:33Speaker 4: side of the ball. You see offensive guys who can
- 2:37:36Speaker 4: win one on one matchups. Doesn't take a lot of them.
- 2:37:39Speaker 5: You got two of them I think over there on
- 2:37:40Speaker 5: the Eagles, But man, it makes it a lot easier
- 2:37:43Speaker 5: on your quarterback. Yeah, I mean I would I agree
- 2:37:47Speaker 5: with you that, like in terms of wide receivers, but
- 2:37:49Speaker 5: I think Goddard is a playmaking tight end, and I
- 2:37:52Speaker 5: think say, Kuon Barkley is going to give that offense
- 2:37:55Speaker 5: you know, another dimension you saw it like and I
- 2:37:58Speaker 5: understand what Evan's talking about, scheme like that's that's not
- 2:38:02Speaker 5: I don't care how much pressure you get. That's a
- 2:38:04Speaker 5: touchdown because there's no way Matthew Judon is going to
- 2:38:07Speaker 5: stay with a guy like say in space.
- 2:38:09Speaker 4: No right, And that's you know, again, good job by
- 2:38:12Speaker 4: Hurts putting it out there, seeing it nowhere to go
- 2:38:15Speaker 4: with it.
- 2:38:18Speaker 1: But I just you know the bottom line.
- 2:38:19Speaker 4: And I know this is gonna sound rich coming from
- 2:38:21Speaker 4: me as the guy who two weeks ago is like I'm.
- 2:38:23Speaker 1: Just not gonna worry about the offensive line. It's like,
- 2:38:26Speaker 1: how do we do this again?
- 2:38:27Speaker 4: Like another season where it's just like, yeah, they don't have,
- 2:38:32Speaker 4: they don't have, And I mean, watching Lane Johnson walk
- 2:38:34Speaker 4: out here, I think it's all.
- 2:38:36Speaker 5: Of it though, Like you're going to give up pressure,
- 2:38:38Speaker 5: but if you have guys that can get open, you
- 2:38:40Speaker 5: can overcome him. The Eagles offensive line is considered to
- 2:38:43Speaker 5: be very good. I thought the Patriots had pressure on
- 2:38:46Speaker 5: Hurts today, Sure, but they made more completions because they
- 2:38:49Speaker 5: have guys like Brown and Smith that are going to
- 2:38:51Speaker 5: get open.
- 2:38:52Speaker 1: Yeah, and Hurting smart He's seen it before, so yeah,
- 2:38:56Speaker 1: you know right, that's what's hard with me.
- 2:38:58Speaker 4: He doesn't know what he's doing, right, And I mean,
- 2:39:01Speaker 4: you know, it's just a place that are getting that
- 2:39:02Speaker 4: they're not even having a chance.
- 2:39:03Speaker 1: On in the second unite.
- 2:39:07Speaker 4: At what point do you got to say, look, let's
- 2:39:09Speaker 4: we just let's see what Drake looks like when he
- 2:39:10Speaker 4: actually has a pocket for you.
- 2:39:12Speaker 5: Know, yeah, more than a second and a half. And
- 2:39:15Speaker 5: I think that's the That's what I'm trying to keep
- 2:39:18Speaker 5: in mind with these people because I know that's that's
- 2:39:20Speaker 5: all anybody wants to talk about. And I get it,
- 2:39:21Speaker 5: that's all I would want to hear about. If I
- 2:39:24Speaker 5: wasn't here every day, I would want to know what
- 2:39:25Speaker 5: people thought, How how did May look? That's all I
- 2:39:27Speaker 5: would care about, And people ask me constantly, and it's
- 2:39:32Speaker 5: just I feel like I'm not really telling them anything
- 2:39:35Speaker 5: because it's so hard to evaluate. Like I know, we
- 2:39:39Speaker 5: could come across with Patriots dot com. And we're trying
- 2:39:42Speaker 5: to sort of stress the positive. I get that, but
- 2:39:45Speaker 5: how do you accurately evaluate that two minute drill when
- 2:39:48Speaker 5: he gets four plays and he gets sacked three times?
- 2:39:51Speaker 4: Right, yep, it's now you just you have to It's
- 2:39:55Speaker 4: almost like the offense as a whole. It's the same
- 2:39:57Speaker 4: thing for Drake May as an individual, where you've seen
- 2:40:00Speaker 4: flashes here and there, you've seen nice throws here and there.
- 2:40:03Speaker 4: You know, you've seen some of the stuff that you know,
- 2:40:06Speaker 4: you know he's gonna need to be successful in the league.
- 2:40:08Speaker 4: But like the offense, you just haven't you know, come together.
- 2:40:11Speaker 1: For him holistically. And like, you know, if they're gonna
- 2:40:13Speaker 1: be this heavy running game, how does that affect the
- 2:40:15Speaker 1: passing game? Yeah? If they can actually establish some run,
- 2:40:18Speaker 1: does that help? And right we we haven't seen any
- 2:40:21Speaker 1: of that yet. It's it's just so hard to gauge
- 2:40:24Speaker 1: at this point.
- 2:40:24Speaker 5: Right And that's a good point too, Like we had,
- 2:40:26Speaker 5: I thought the second series of team offense, they showed
- 2:40:30Speaker 5: some signs of improved running the ball, and that could
- 2:40:34Speaker 5: make all the difference if it's second and five or
- 2:40:36Speaker 5: you know, or even better as opposed to so many
- 2:40:39Speaker 5: second and Tens that they faced on the first on
- 2:40:41Speaker 5: the first set, I see, yeah, some the Know it
- 2:40:44Speaker 5: All is coming by love that love our friends at
- 2:40:47Speaker 5: NBC Sports Boston coming by the Know it All ten.
- 2:40:50Speaker 1: Hi five.
- 2:40:52Speaker 5: Oh no, I said, I said, it just just in
- 2:40:55Speaker 5: time for you to come TC.
- 2:40:56Speaker 1: I see Pop making his way to us. He's escorted
- 2:41:00Speaker 1: by somebody from our PR staff. So looks like we're
- 2:41:04Speaker 1: going to get close to Tamara Brown being able to
- 2:41:07Speaker 1: interview Douglas. I think he had a decent day. Yeah.
- 2:41:13Speaker 4: I mean I was more on the defense, but the
- 2:41:16Speaker 4: few plays I caught, it looks like what Papa has
- 2:41:18Speaker 4: been doing, and I mean it's you know, I guess
- 2:41:22Speaker 4: the way in my mind I was thinking, man, I
- 2:41:23Speaker 4: was really hoping this was year one of the rebuild,
- 2:41:25Speaker 4: and I'm starting to feel more more.
- 2:41:26Speaker 1: All right, let's give a way for Tamara Brown. She's
- 2:41:29Speaker 1: down on the field with Pop Douglas. We ready to go,
- 2:41:34Speaker 1: Ready you go, Fred, Okay tomorrow.
- 2:41:49Speaker 8: It was seventy two hours ago when you were able
- 2:41:51Speaker 8: to take off that red non contact jersey. How does
- 2:41:53Speaker 8: it feel to be cleared and able to practice against
- 2:41:55Speaker 8: the Eagles today?
- 2:41:56Speaker 1: I feel great just to come out here.
- 2:41:58Speaker 13: And play against a different team and get together with
- 2:42:01Speaker 13: my brothers and you know, uh compete.
- 2:42:04Speaker 8: It was Gerard Mayo who said, you have been having
- 2:42:06Speaker 8: you back your quickness, your energy. It brings a different
- 2:42:09Speaker 8: boost to this wide receiver room. How does it feel
- 2:42:11Speaker 8: to hear.
- 2:42:11Speaker 13: That that's a blessing? You know, when the head man
- 2:42:13Speaker 13: you know praised me. I feel like I'm going in
- 2:42:16Speaker 13: the right direction.
- 2:42:17Speaker 8: How would you assess your practice today against the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 2:42:20Speaker 13: I feel like I did smooth. I feel like I
- 2:42:22Speaker 13: could always, you know, do better, got open. Uh, you
- 2:42:26Speaker 13: know that was my job to do. And uh, I
- 2:42:28Speaker 13: felt like we just needed well me, I need to come.
- 2:42:32Speaker 13: I felt I could do more for sure.
- 2:42:33Speaker 5: Have you seen the work that you put in during
- 2:42:35Speaker 5: the off season payoff here today?
- 2:42:37Speaker 1: Yeah? Most definitely.
- 2:42:38Speaker 13: Most definitely felt like, uh what I did in the
- 2:42:40Speaker 13: off season with the receivers and other the quarterbacks felt
- 2:42:44Speaker 13: like it.
- 2:42:44Speaker 1: U it helped with our timing.
- 2:42:46Speaker 5: How would you define that timing with Jakobe Grisat Andrek Man.
- 2:42:50Speaker 1: It's pretty good.
- 2:42:51Speaker 13: I say, we've been putting the pieces together and uh,
- 2:42:54Speaker 13: I say the plays that you know that's meant for
- 2:42:56Speaker 13: me to get it been coming, the.
- 2:42:58Speaker 8: Plays that a VP has for you guys, how do
- 2:43:01Speaker 8: you how would you describe this Patriot's offense this season?
- 2:43:04Speaker 13: I feel like, uh like I say, yes, there's gone.
- 2:43:06Speaker 13: I feel like it's all gonna come together. You know,
- 2:43:08Speaker 13: we ain't do too much out here today, but I
- 2:43:10Speaker 13: feel like once we come game week one, we're gonna
- 2:43:13Speaker 13: have all the pieces together.
- 2:43:14Speaker 5: Thanks so much for your time to Mario.
