- 0:09Speaker 3: I am Tobias and I play guitar, I'm backing vocals.
- 0:17Speaker 4: I'm Jonathan and I play the bass, guitar and backing vocals.
- 0:24Speaker 5: And my name is Oscar and I play guitar and
- 0:28Speaker 5: sing than exactly joining.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Us today of course, thanks for having us my pleasure.
- 0:36Speaker 6: We're here to talk about the fact that Bloodstained release
- 0:39Speaker 6: yourself titled debut album on September twenty sixth.
- 0:42Speaker 7: How do you feel about it?
- 0:45Speaker 2: Very very very excited. Yeah, I think we're all very pumped.
- 0:50Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm ben and it's so.
- 0:54Speaker 6: Can you tell us me more about the album from
- 0:55Speaker 6: a musical point of view and then what.
- 0:57Speaker 7: You's have gone for with it?
- 0:59Speaker 2: Think when we started writing it, we didn't really have
- 1:06Speaker 2: any We didn't want want any borders like or restrictions.
- 1:11Speaker 2: We sort of just wrote the songs that we wanted
- 1:13Speaker 2: to write, often starting from a riff and then just
- 1:17Speaker 2: going from there. I guess yeah, I think that's sort
- 1:23Speaker 2: of how we resonated when we when we wrote the
- 1:27Speaker 2: the record, and well, we wanted everyone to have their
- 1:30Speaker 2: own input in the album and the songs and to
- 1:32Speaker 2: be able to come with their own ideas and stuff.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Yeah, and the album as well has something like each
- 1:42Speaker 3: song is different in a way, like some songs are
- 1:44Speaker 3: very heavy, some songs are very groovy, and there are
- 1:49Speaker 3: a few fast ones as well a ballad.
- 1:54Speaker 1: So it's kind of like.
- 1:55Speaker 3: A a yeah, blueprint of what their bloodstain.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Is and what we're capable of creating.
- 2:08Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Yeah, And in writing this album, I think we all
- 2:12Speaker 4: also wanted to kind of break out of any like
- 2:16Speaker 4: musical labels. When so we want the fans to decide
- 2:22Speaker 4: for themselves what we are as what kind of genre
- 2:26Speaker 4: we play. We just write music, and I think that's
- 2:30Speaker 4: that's really that really shows on this album because it's
- 2:33Speaker 4: so different from song to song.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:37Speaker 7: Yeah, cool.
- 2:38Speaker 6: And today you've released the singles Annihilation, Line, Something Sinister,
- 2:42Speaker 6: and Conspiracy.
- 2:43Speaker 7: So would you say.
- 2:44Speaker 6: They're a good idea, like I grow a picture of
- 2:46Speaker 6: what you expect sonically, or they just scratch the surface.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I think they are probably.
- 2:54Speaker 3: A good representation of the rest of the album. It's
- 2:59Speaker 3: all so like we show them for the reason that
- 3:02Speaker 3: they are like small tastes of what the album will be. Yeah,
- 3:08Speaker 3: Since three singles are very different and the rest of
- 3:14Speaker 3: the songs will kind of continue on on those three
- 3:19Speaker 3: songs basically plus some completely different ones, but those three
- 3:24Speaker 3: kind of get the overall idea of what the album
- 3:28Speaker 3: will sound like.
- 3:30Speaker 2: I think they're really good sort of appetizers for the
- 3:33Speaker 2: for the whole for the whole album.
- 3:36Speaker 6: Definitely nice with the song of annihilation line like you
- 3:39Speaker 6: guys actually tested the intro to that outlive at Sweden
- 3:43Speaker 6: Rock Festival.
- 3:43Speaker 7: Light to people like myself.
- 3:45Speaker 6: Who aren't musically flying, like, explain why you do something
- 3:49Speaker 6: like that, and how good a feeling it is to
- 3:51Speaker 6: sort of see the crowd react.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I mean, that was very That was fucking awesome when
- 3:58Speaker 2: when we played that see rock uh, because we weren't
- 4:02Speaker 2: really sure what the audience response would be, because we
- 4:07Speaker 2: dreamt like we wanted to be like, Okay, they're gonna
- 4:10Speaker 2: sing along to it, like the intro to Fear of
- 4:12Speaker 2: the Dog sort of I get. I think that was
- 4:14Speaker 2: our our vision for it. And then we played it
- 4:17Speaker 2: and we we asked everyone to sing along and most
- 4:22Speaker 2: of the people did and it was fucking awesome. And
- 4:25Speaker 2: then when we finished the song because it was our
- 4:27Speaker 2: last song, and when then we wanted to take a
- 4:31Speaker 2: picture with it with the audience. So we went up
- 4:34Speaker 2: to the front of the stage and then while we
- 4:35Speaker 2: were taking the picture, the whole crowd started singing, singing,
- 4:39Speaker 2: the singing the song again and that was just I mean,
- 4:45Speaker 2: I have to describe it as magical. It was really
- 4:47Speaker 2: so fucking awesome. I can't describe that feeling. It was insane.
- 4:51Speaker 6: Yeah, And I think, like you guys, you have done
- 4:55Speaker 6: a lot of choring and you build a ninety yourselves,
- 4:57Speaker 6: but it is your debut album. So what sart of
- 5:00Speaker 6: the things he discussed going into that, like you try
- 5:02Speaker 6: and replicate your live stand as much as he can,
- 5:04Speaker 6: or do you put yanny best songs in?
- 5:07Speaker 7: Or do you just put whatever you've got? Like is
- 5:08Speaker 7: there is there a thought process?
- 5:10Speaker 3: I think like for because now when we've been touring
- 5:16Speaker 3: and playing, we've basically played a lot of the album live,
- 5:22Speaker 3: not all of it, but most of it. And I
- 5:27Speaker 3: think like for us, it's very important that you get
- 5:34Speaker 3: the same energy and the same sound when you go
- 5:38Speaker 3: see us live and when you listen to the album.
- 5:41Speaker 3: I think that's important for us because we've all been
- 5:45Speaker 3: there when we've listened to an album probably of like
- 5:49Speaker 3: an old band on like we love an album and
- 5:53Speaker 3: then you go see them live and it's not the
- 5:55Speaker 3: same thing, which is like it's a disappointed and you
- 6:00Speaker 3: don't want to be that band that can play their
- 6:02Speaker 3: own stuff live. So we're trying to like and the
- 6:06Speaker 3: same goes the other way as well, Like the energy
- 6:08Speaker 3: we we we show when we play the songs live,
- 6:12Speaker 3: we want to replicate on the album as well, So you.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Get you you you.
- 6:18Speaker 3: You can listen to bloods In anywhere and it will
- 6:20Speaker 3: have the same energy no matter if it's live or
- 6:24Speaker 3: or studio recording. So that's like probably the most part.
- 6:29Speaker 2: And I think also because we rehearse a lot, it's like, yeah,
- 6:35Speaker 2: no ship, but I think it's like the most important
- 6:37Speaker 2: thing because partly because you have to know the songs,
- 6:41Speaker 2: but also because it's equally as important to show the
- 6:46Speaker 2: audience that you're having fun and that you're head back
- 6:50Speaker 2: to the songs and that you're in the moment. So
- 6:52Speaker 2: that's really important to rehearse too, like not just like
- 6:57Speaker 2: Tobia said that, so that you can play the songs,
- 6:59Speaker 2: but also so that you give the audience a good show.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I would say live show. Yeah basically, yeah, and.
- 7:10Speaker 6: You decided to call the album after yourself as a
- 7:12Speaker 6: self startled album for your first one. Why I started
- 7:15Speaker 6: the guy that way instead of named it after a song.
- 7:17Speaker 3: On the album, we ideal just the or There wasn't
- 7:23Speaker 3: really a discussion on what to call the album because
- 7:25Speaker 3: we're all like came to the conclusion that this is bloodstain.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Like this is.
- 7:32Speaker 3: This the center selling point of the band, like sound wise,
- 7:38Speaker 3: image wise, like everything is just like.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Bloodstain.
- 7:44Speaker 3: So there wasn't really a debate on what to call
- 7:47Speaker 3: the album and everything else that like, some ideas just
- 7:51Speaker 3: didn't feel right, and so just calling it bloodstain, this
- 7:58Speaker 3: was the natural thing.
- 7:59Speaker 2: To call it, yeah, because it was a really long
- 8:03Speaker 2: process because me and Oscar sat for hours after hours
- 8:08Speaker 2: upon hours in his room just trying to come up
- 8:11Speaker 2: with both like the art work for the album and
- 8:15Speaker 2: what we wanted it to be called. But every idea
- 8:18Speaker 2: that we had just it didn't really fit. I, like
- 8:22Speaker 2: Tobaio said, it sort of felt like it didn't represent
- 8:27Speaker 2: what the album was.
- 8:30Speaker 1: So it was.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Really like this was the only way it would like
- 8:36Speaker 2: fit and feel right with like I said, both the
- 8:40Speaker 2: art work and the and the title of the album.
- 8:44Speaker 1: I would say, really, in.
- 8:47Speaker 6: Played a version of I Am Death which was on
- 8:49Speaker 6: your twenty twenty four but basically why I choose that
- 8:52Speaker 6: song to put on the album?
- 8:54Speaker 7: And second, hell much did you change it from the
- 8:56Speaker 7: original version?
- 8:58Speaker 2: Do you want to take that?
- 8:59Speaker 1: Oscar?
- 9:01Speaker 5: Uh? Since the EP version went so great, we wanted
- 9:09Speaker 5: to give a new life on the new record, since
- 9:14Speaker 5: we want to represent our new sound or like what
- 9:17Speaker 5: what bloods in it, and therefore we wanted to have
- 9:19Speaker 5: Iron Death on it, and the new stuff on it
- 9:25Speaker 5: is it's a bit lowered, a whole step down, and
- 9:32Speaker 5: the guitars are recorded again and solo and of course
- 9:36Speaker 5: the new vocals, so it's much more like produced and fatter.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Yeah, and a completely different mix on it as well.
- 9:48Speaker 6: Yeah, which very do you prefer the other the or
- 9:53Speaker 6: the new one?
- 9:58Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 9:59Speaker 2: That's unanimous. And I would say that the vision or
- 10:03Speaker 2: like the inspiration we we took sort of from from
- 10:06Speaker 2: Whitesnake when they had for the nineteen eighty seven album,
- 10:09Speaker 2: when they had Here I Go Again on it. I
- 10:13Speaker 2: guess that's sort of where the idea came from.
- 10:18Speaker 4: And it also makes sense to include that song on
- 10:21Speaker 4: the debut album because it has been a staple piece
- 10:24Speaker 4: in our discography since.
- 10:26Speaker 1: We released it.
- 10:27Speaker 8: So yeah, so it don't make sense to put that
- 10:32Speaker 8: song on the album as well, because that is that
- 10:35Speaker 8: has been and that still is bloodstained like from the beginning.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Make sense, And it's also an old thing to do
- 10:43Speaker 3: as well. Having your most streamed song and most widely
- 10:49Speaker 3: recognized song and re record it and make it so different,
- 10:53Speaker 3: like taking an old song and then tuning it down
- 10:58Speaker 3: and just making it a lot heavier is also kind
- 11:01Speaker 3: of a bold move and we.
- 11:04Speaker 1: We wanted to do it, so yeah, why not? Why not?
- 11:09Speaker 1: Why not.
- 11:11Speaker 6: Work with massive names like Alex Hello from in June
- 11:14Speaker 6: and the pair Adelim on the production of this Mate?
- 11:18Speaker 6: So what kind of unique knowledge did they bring to
- 11:20Speaker 6: the studio and what did you learn from them during
- 11:23Speaker 6: the album?
- 11:25Speaker 5: Uh?
- 11:25Speaker 2: We worked a lot with with with par On when
- 11:29Speaker 2: we recorded the vocals and when we were in the
- 11:32Speaker 2: studio with him, we sort of gave all the songs
- 11:36Speaker 2: another round of like attention and looked at every song
- 11:40Speaker 2: one more one more time and just thought about what
- 11:44Speaker 2: we could change for the better. And I think that
- 11:47Speaker 2: really benefited every single one of the songs. Uh Yeah,
- 11:55Speaker 2: And I think with part he he has sort of
- 11:58Speaker 2: like he knows how to make a hit. I would
- 12:04Speaker 2: say he has like that mindset. So with his input,
- 12:10Speaker 2: I think the songs became much more hole, I would say.
- 12:15Speaker 3: And it was also a lot easier for us to
- 12:19Speaker 3: make decisions when we have two producers kind of like
- 12:23Speaker 3: pushing us in the right direction. For example, there's a
- 12:28Speaker 3: lot of material that has been cut from the album,
- 12:32Speaker 3: a lot of parts from songs that have been removed,
- 12:36Speaker 3: some parts being added, but like there's a lot of
- 12:39Speaker 3: riffs and like parts of the song that we decided
- 12:46Speaker 3: to remove. And it's also nice because like if we
- 12:50Speaker 3: kind of like debate on it, to have like a
- 12:54Speaker 3: third party telling us to do it, because for us
- 13:00Speaker 3: it will always be like we could add whatever we
- 13:03Speaker 3: want because we are the ones playing it and it's
- 13:05Speaker 3: our music. But having a third party like to producers,
- 13:10Speaker 3: but they're also two listeners, like they kind of represent
- 13:15Speaker 3: also like the normal listener, like this is they just
- 13:18Speaker 3: hear us.
- 13:19Speaker 1: They don't play in Bloodstain.
- 13:21Speaker 3: So because you can, we can write a song that's
- 13:24Speaker 3: fifty minutes long as we wanted to, but it maybe
- 13:28Speaker 3: only needs to be four minutes. So I think that
- 13:33Speaker 3: was like the best part about having them and working
- 13:36Speaker 3: with them was like the decision making off, yeah, like
- 13:41Speaker 3: removing stuff, because it's hard to remove stuff since we've
- 13:44Speaker 3: always played we've played the album like rehearsed a lot before, like.
- 13:49Speaker 1: We even.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Like just went into the studio again, and so for us,
- 13:54Speaker 3: it's kind of like.
- 13:58Speaker 1: A child, like this is how we viewed song.
- 14:00Speaker 3: And then just to remove something it's could be could
- 14:02Speaker 3: be kind of difficult at something times because it's like,
- 14:05Speaker 3: but it's so good, but but it made the songs
- 14:09Speaker 3: sometimes better going into the studios and again it's like
- 14:12Speaker 3: a whole new record to what it was before.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:16Speaker 2: And I think it's also great to have like new
- 14:20Speaker 2: sets of ears listening to everything, because you can sort
- 14:23Speaker 2: of get numb in the head when you when you
- 14:25Speaker 2: hear the songs when you listen to them every single
- 14:28Speaker 2: day for months on end. So I think it's really
- 14:31Speaker 2: great to have like a like a pair of outside
- 14:33Speaker 2: ears that help help like improve the record. And also
- 14:41Speaker 2: that because we didn't want to spend of course we
- 14:44Speaker 2: need to re record the vocals, but I think if
- 14:47Speaker 2: you spend too much time just finicking with everything and
- 14:51Speaker 2: changing all the details and and just listening to every
- 14:55Speaker 2: single second and of every single song. Uh, I think
- 15:01Speaker 2: it can have the opposite effect. If we've been working
- 15:05Speaker 2: for this Yeah, we've been working for the on this
- 15:08Speaker 2: record for like one and a half years, I would say.
- 15:14Speaker 2: And I think if you work on it on a
- 15:17Speaker 2: record much longer than that, I think your mind just
- 15:20Speaker 2: starts to go really numb and you really start to
- 15:24Speaker 2: miss like the the details and you Yeah, I just
- 15:31Speaker 2: I guess forget what what the song was even supposed
- 15:34Speaker 2: to be about in the beginning.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Yeah, makes sense.
- 15:38Speaker 6: And you guys got any any tours or any shows
- 15:41Speaker 6: playing to celebrate the album coming yet?
- 15:45Speaker 4: Well, we have some shows booked in September. The next
- 15:50Speaker 4: one is in two weeks in uh little town Morth
- 15:54Speaker 4: of Stockholm called morning Arm Open Air. It's a festival,
- 15:59Speaker 4: and then we will be playing a gig in Stockholm
- 16:05Speaker 4: the weekend after that, and then it's a break for
- 16:10Speaker 4: one week and then we'll go to Norway to play
- 16:13Speaker 4: at Heavy Nights in Caramey and then it's time for
- 16:19Speaker 4: the release party. So that's like the we have one
- 16:27Speaker 4: more gig that's in the works after the release party,
- 16:32Speaker 4: but we can't like really say anything about that yet,
- 16:34Speaker 4: so you will just have to look out one yeah, yeah.
- 16:38Speaker 7: Right, and that you cast your eyes as far as
- 16:40Speaker 7: the Tryer on its start of the world. Yet.
- 16:43Speaker 2: We definitely want to go there, of course, yeah, but
- 16:46Speaker 2: it's a bit far. Yeah, but it's definitely definitely milestone
- 16:55Speaker 2: of wars to go to Australia, I would say, definitely
- 17:00Speaker 2: very nice.
- 17:00Speaker 7: All right, guys, well, thanks very much for your time today.
- 17:02Speaker 6: The album at Blood Stain is now September twenty fifth,
- 17:05Speaker 6: and she's an absolute banking guy, so congratulations and best
- 17:08Speaker 6: of luck with it.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Thank you so much, thanks for having you.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Than you so much.
