Faith at Midnight Acts 16:13–34
Paul and Silas had been following God’s leading. In Philippi, Lydia welcomed the gospel and opened her home. When Paul freed an enslaved girl from an oppressive spirit, however, her owners lost their source of income. Their anger led to Paul and Silas being beaten and imprisoned. Obedience to God had brought them into a painful situation.
In this story we are reminded that the proof of God’s presence is not the absence of attack. Following Jesus does not mean nothing will come against us. His grace can sustain us when it does.
