- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schrager is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio.
- 0:28Speaker 2: The one player in the twenty twenty five draft that
- 0:30Speaker 2: you think is a sure thing is who Peter kick
- 0:34Speaker 2: it off. I'm going up to Penn State, and you're
- 0:36Speaker 2: probably thinking of Dual Carter. I'm going as teammate Tyler Warren,
- 0:39Speaker 2: the big tight end, the guy who does everything like
- 0:41Speaker 2: quarterback in high school, played h back and then moved
- 0:44Speaker 2: to tight end and basically leads Penn State in every
- 0:47Speaker 2: offensive category that is cumunly possible and dominated.
- 0:51Speaker 3: In college football playoffs. Top ten pick.
- 0:53Speaker 2: For some reason, I don't have the buzz that he's
- 0:55Speaker 2: getting Top five.
- 0:56Speaker 3: He might when it's all said and done.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Absolute beasts and a team leader who can do it
- 1:00Speaker 2: both in the blocking game.
- 1:02Speaker 3: And in the receiving game.
- 1:03Speaker 2: The ultimate tight end coming out of college, Tyler Warren.
- 1:06Speaker 3: And it's a sure thing in my eyes. I like it.
- 1:09Speaker 2: It's been long ten weeks for Giants fans waiting and
- 1:13Speaker 2: watching it went from dreams of Stafford, to dreams of
- 1:17Speaker 2: Rogers too, then thoughts of Jameis and to now being like,
- 1:21Speaker 2: all right, it's Russ and what version of Russ are
- 1:23Speaker 2: we getting we get in the version of Russ that's
- 1:25Speaker 2: the first ten weeks of last season that looked like
- 1:27Speaker 2: a guy who was a Pro Bowl caliber quarterback, or
- 1:29Speaker 2: the last five weeks where the Steelers offense faltered. Either way,
- 1:32Speaker 2: it's an upgrade from last year's quarterback room. Right now
- 1:34Speaker 2: you've got Jamis Winston and Russell Wilson, two competent quarterbacks.
- 1:37Speaker 2: You leave the door open if you want to draft
- 1:40Speaker 2: a quarterback at three. Now that means that Shador Sanders
- 1:43Speaker 2: would likely have to fall to three, but you're not
- 1:46Speaker 2: tied to drafting Shador Sanders. You could still get a
- 1:49Speaker 2: franchise cornerstone and build brick by brick in. One of
- 1:51Speaker 2: those franchise cornerstones could be Abdul Carter, it could be
- 1:54Speaker 2: Travis Hunter. I will say this, there is very little
- 1:57Speaker 2: sizzle or buzz around the Giants now. I mean you're
- 2:01Speaker 2: talking about something that the Maras might not be excited about,
- 2:04Speaker 2: which would mean being on the fifth crew on or
- 2:07Speaker 2: being on the sixth crew on CBS opening week and
- 2:09Speaker 2: one o'clock games every single week and not getting those
- 2:12Speaker 2: primetime ratings, not getting everyone talking about the Giants Russell
- 2:17Speaker 2: Wilson and Jamis Winston are competent quarterbacks. They are not
- 2:20Speaker 2: going to have fans buying jerseys tomorrow and saying I
- 2:24Speaker 2: need to be a part of this wave. That means
- 2:26Speaker 2: it's gonna be about the football, and it's gonna be
- 2:28Speaker 2: about the draft, whether they can get the guy or not,
- 2:31Speaker 2: and if they want the guy or not.
- 2:33Speaker 3: You don't want to.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Overreach for a quarterback. We saw that in so many
- 2:37Speaker 2: drafts before. And I look at like the Zach Wilson
- 2:40Speaker 2: draft that the Jets were part of, and then teams
- 2:42Speaker 2: were like, all right, we need Trey Lancet three. Okay,
- 2:44Speaker 2: well we need to jump up and get I don't
- 2:46Speaker 2: think you want to be desperate for a quarterback. Russell
- 2:48Speaker 2: Wilson led a team to the playoffs last year. Whether
- 2:50Speaker 2: you think he was great or not, he did it.
- 2:52Speaker 2: He's confident enough. It's not gonna have anyone doing flips.
- 2:55Speaker 2: And it might be on the New York Post front
- 2:57Speaker 2: cover for one day, not twenty like the Rogers signing
- 3:00Speaker 2: would have been. But they've got their two quarterbacks and
- 3:02Speaker 2: they leave the door open if they want another one too.
- 3:05Speaker 2: It's now like if you want to take Tyler Schuck
- 3:07Speaker 2: who is out of louis Ville and he's a twenty
- 3:09Speaker 2: five year old quarterback who's that Texas Tech for You
- 3:11Speaker 2: don't have to sit the three pick. You can say, Okay,
- 3:13Speaker 2: we could draft Abdua, Carter, Travis Hunter, one of those
- 3:17Speaker 2: two guys at three.
- 3:17Speaker 3: They will be there.
- 3:18Speaker 2: They have to be because if Ford's going one, one
- 3:20Speaker 2: of those two guys are at three, and then we
- 3:22Speaker 2: can get a guy that maybe we like as a
- 3:24Speaker 2: rookie quarterback, but we don't have to draft him at
- 3:26Speaker 2: three with all the pressure and the expectations. We could
- 3:27Speaker 2: take him in the second round with the thirty fourth
- 3:29Speaker 2: pick or the third round. That gives him that opportunity.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I also look at the Giants when they laid out
- 3:34Speaker 2: their chessboard. I don't think they this was a goal.
- 3:38Speaker 2: I think Stafford, I think Rogers this is option C
- 3:41Speaker 2: and D. So you can't be overwhelmed with joy right now.
- 3:44Speaker 2: It's more settling than anything, especially with the fact that
- 3:47Speaker 2: Russell was, you know, taking this tour, going to Cleveland,
- 3:49Speaker 2: going to who's selling his wares and you're like, I
- 3:52Speaker 2: get so. My last point is this, the Giants fan
- 3:54Speaker 2: base has been so miserable the last few years, so
- 3:57Speaker 2: sad everything is doom and gloom.
- 4:00Speaker 3: You just had two of.
- 4:01Speaker 2: The most optimistic, positive players in the entire NFL join
- 4:06Speaker 2: that locker room and joined that quarterbacks room, where at
- 4:09Speaker 2: the very least there is a light in there is
- 4:11Speaker 2: a positivity with Russell Wilson and Jameis wins and these
- 4:14Speaker 2: are two guys who have.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Never had a bad day in their lives.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Well, the carousel was going around and around and around,
- 4:21Speaker 2: and there was a couple of seats available and now
- 4:23Speaker 2: there's really just one. And I don't think this is
- 4:25Speaker 2: because the Giants were like, you know what, We've had enough,
- 4:27Speaker 2: We're going I think the Giants got the message and
- 4:30Speaker 2: the writing was on the wall that Aaron Rodgers wasn't
- 4:32Speaker 2: coming to them, So they were like, let's pivot. We'll
- 4:34Speaker 2: do Jamis and then we'll do Russ for a combined
- 4:36Speaker 2: cost that'll be way less than it would have been had.
- 4:39Speaker 3: They brought in Aaron Rodgers.
- 4:40Speaker 2: But there is a moment of sadness here because I
- 4:43Speaker 2: think the Aaron Rodgers Giants thing was at least tantalizing
- 4:46Speaker 2: from a New York City perspective, and what it could
- 4:48Speaker 2: have meant and to have Aaron Rodgers throwing to neighbors.
- 4:51Speaker 2: But now there's really just one place left and that's Pittsburgh.
- 4:54Speaker 2: The other place left is Rogers exploring other things and
- 4:58Speaker 2: other opportunities outside of football, so as retirement or the Steelers.
- 5:02Speaker 3: You know, what's the hold up? What's the way?
- 5:04Speaker 2: We mentioned Pat McAfee last last hour to Cam Hayward.
- 5:08Speaker 2: He's got that big event next Wednesday, I believe in
- 5:11Speaker 2: Pittsburgh that he's hosting, Like, is Rogers gonna do a
- 5:15Speaker 2: big announcement? Is this gonna be one of these deals
- 5:18Speaker 2: where Rogers unveils us to a crowd of Steelers fans
- 5:21Speaker 2: that has.
- 5:21Speaker 3: A big live event in Pittsburgh.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Yes, that Rogers may show up and be like, is
- 5:25Speaker 2: that not a great way to like unveil this thing.
- 5:28Speaker 3: It might not be because what if the Steelers fans boom?
- 5:30Speaker 2: Yeah, it's actually fascinating. Like Flourio put a poll out
- 5:34Speaker 2: there and he's like, Steelers fans, straight up, you want
- 5:37Speaker 2: this or not? And I think most of you at
- 5:40Speaker 2: this point, I think it is. It's like where what
- 5:42Speaker 2: are we doing? Otherwise?
- 5:43Speaker 3: Right now?
- 5:43Speaker 2: If you ask them at the start of the you
- 5:46Speaker 2: know they started the whole free agency think maybe not,
- 5:47Speaker 2: but like at this point I think Rogers to the Steelers,
- 5:50Speaker 2: whether it makes sense or not, from both sides, it
- 5:53Speaker 2: seems like it's the most natural fit and it might
- 5:55Speaker 2: be the last fit unless there's a wildcar team. I
- 5:58Speaker 2: have said this team time and time again, and no
- 6:00Speaker 2: one has has has has backed me up.
- 6:02Speaker 3: And knowing that, I can't wait, what was it? If
- 6:04Speaker 3: you're the New Orleans Saints.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Do you not make a play like you got Derek
- 6:07Speaker 2: Carr there? Do you not say let's just go for
- 6:10Speaker 2: I don't know. Maybe that's two veteran quarterbacks who are
- 6:13Speaker 2: a brand new coach and a brand new coach with
- 6:14Speaker 2: Calm Moore, But like, I just think that's a market
- 6:16Speaker 2: that could use like some buzz, and it gets.
- 6:18Speaker 3: A guy that's a veteran quarterback for a.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Team that's actually filled with veterans, Like the Saints are
- 6:23Speaker 2: all veteran guys.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Now, it's not like Alvin kamaras a second year guy.
- 6:26Speaker 3: It's not like, you know, you've.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Got that defense with Tomorrow Davis and of course our
- 6:30Speaker 2: guy Cam Jordan, but like they are veteran guys all
- 6:33Speaker 2: up and down that Saints team. Do you not bring
- 6:34Speaker 2: in Rodgers and try to win the NFC South? But
- 6:36Speaker 2: maybe they just tied to Derek Cole.
- 6:39Speaker 3: I'm going way off the board here talking about Saints
- 6:42Speaker 3: and Rogers.
- 6:42Speaker 2: But you're trying to ask me to do some heavy
- 6:44Speaker 2: lifting here, and that's just me speculating throwing darts. There's
- 6:47Speaker 2: been no buzz around that one at all. That's two
- 6:49Speaker 2: things for you. Little nuggets from the combine that I
- 6:51Speaker 2: have in my notebook that I'll like bring out here. Abuka,
- 6:54Speaker 2: the first guy right there at number seventeen, who is
- 6:56Speaker 2: amazing throughout the college football playoffs. I asked a longtime
- 7:00Speaker 2: GM who I've become very close to when it comes
- 7:04Speaker 2: to draft stuff and boards and all that.
- 7:06Speaker 3: All right, straight up best interview, the best.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Person you met in the most Likable prize a buc
- 7:13Speaker 2: Ohio State. And that same GM a few years back
- 7:16Speaker 2: when I asked him that same questions, I always go
- 7:18Speaker 2: through the same list of questions, told me Terry McLaurin
- 7:21Speaker 2: Ohio State. So you're talking about great leaders, great men,
- 7:25Speaker 2: that is who you're getting in that wide receiver. And
- 7:28Speaker 2: then the guy who didn't work out yesterday, Judkins out
- 7:31Speaker 2: of Ohio State is one of the most awesome players
- 7:35Speaker 2: in this draft. And what I love about him was
- 7:37Speaker 2: ran for sixteen hundred yards of the freshman at all
- 7:40Speaker 2: Miss sixteen hundred yards in the SEC, won Freshman of
- 7:43Speaker 2: the Year, then straight because nil portal World. It's like, Blach,
- 7:47Speaker 2: you gotta get out.
- 7:48Speaker 3: I guess after.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Two years of dominating the SEC, he spends one year
- 7:52Speaker 2: at Ohio State and goes and wins the National Championship,
- 7:54Speaker 2: runs for less yards because he's sharing carries.
- 7:57Speaker 3: But in every interview that he gave.
- 7:58Speaker 2: When I was asking questions, he was like, oh, I
- 8:00Speaker 2: just wanted to win the CHIP.
- 8:02Speaker 3: I wanted to win the chip.
- 8:03Speaker 2: And maybe there were some chips A dollars signed to
- 8:06Speaker 2: it that helped as well.
- 8:07Speaker 3: But if not, like old Miss was one of these.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Mid majors, he left the SEC where he was dominating,
- 8:12Speaker 2: and that when dominated the Big ten, it was probably
- 8:15Speaker 2: the best player on that team when they needed most
- 8:18Speaker 2: in those big moments. So I look at both Judkins
- 8:20Speaker 2: and I look at Abuka, and I think both those
- 8:22Speaker 2: guys our first round picks, and both those guys are
- 8:24Speaker 2: going to be superstars in the NFL.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Peter, how do you feel about Ashton Genty in the NFL.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's this guy's the limit. And you know,
- 8:33Speaker 2: you think about every year it's like here's b Jon
- 8:35Speaker 2: Robinson and then you know one other year it's.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Gonna be here's Adrian Peterson. There are these few names
- 8:40Speaker 3: that are like we've been.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Hearing about Geny all season and the numbers are outstanding.
- 8:44Speaker 2: It's working to make an immediate impact because I think
- 8:47Speaker 2: he is a top ten pick, But like, what team
- 8:49Speaker 2: can he lift on his shoulders and say I'm.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Gonna get you there?
- 8:51Speaker 2: When you think about it, if he's the number one
- 8:54Speaker 2: pure player in this draft, regardless of position, if you're
- 8:57Speaker 2: Cleveland at two, or if you're the you know, the
- 9:00Speaker 2: giant Tep Tracy, I guess. But like you start thinking
- 9:03Speaker 2: about these teams in the top five and it's like
- 9:05Speaker 2: this is not the greatest top to bottom as far
- 9:08Speaker 2: as like these, why not just say this is the
- 9:11Speaker 2: year I'm just gonna take a running back like the
- 9:12Speaker 2: old school days where you would take a Marshall Fulk
- 9:15Speaker 2: in the top five.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Or you would go and just go and Leonard fourte
- 9:18Speaker 3: rab a.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Leonard Fournette if you have to, and you're like top ten,
- 9:21Speaker 2: I'm taking a running back. I think I think this
- 9:23Speaker 2: might be one of the shockers of the draft if
- 9:25Speaker 2: he goes I don't know, five to Jacksonville, you know,
- 9:29Speaker 2: top four to New England, like six of the Raiders
- 9:33Speaker 2: sticks to the Raiders, like to me, the sky's the
- 9:35Speaker 2: limit and I'm excited to see where he ends up
- 9:38Speaker 2: the nickname. Last night, Russell and cr are sitting a
- 9:40Speaker 2: courtside like there was some buzz and there was some action.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Russell Wilson like New York City. I don't know. There's
- 9:47Speaker 3: Chris Rock in the in the foreground, you could see
- 9:49Speaker 3: like thek my guy, Maddie Moden in the back. Is
- 9:51Speaker 3: that modin? Hello? We love him? In the wrestling film
- 9:54Speaker 3: Vision Crass Test also now on Stranger Things, Biggest Show
- 9:56Speaker 3: in the World film that one is do to me,
- 9:59Speaker 3: I live in a vision quest world.
- 10:00Speaker 2: That said, he gets out there like you're thinking he's
- 10:03Speaker 2: gonna do the press conference and it's gonna be you know,
- 10:06Speaker 2: I'm just here to be to be a team player.
- 10:08Speaker 3: He was like, I want to be the starter. He's
- 10:10Speaker 3: not looking at a mentor rookie at.
- 10:11Speaker 2: The Staria that he will you know, but it wasn't
- 10:13Speaker 2: one of those where it's like whatever you do, I'm
- 10:15Speaker 2: now for him, just happy for the opportunity, like Russ
- 10:17Speaker 2: wants to rock and roll, and Russ wants to do this.
- 10:20Speaker 2: There was a buzz and for for even a minute,
- 10:22Speaker 2: even if it was just yesterday, it was like, Okay,
- 10:25Speaker 2: that's a quarterback. And I hate to just keep on
- 10:27Speaker 2: piling on Daniel Jones that he's no longer here. But
- 10:29Speaker 2: at no point with Daniel Jones like let's go, I'm
- 10:32Speaker 2: the guy, let's rock and roll. Daniel Jones never had
- 10:35Speaker 2: that or I never had that presence. And whether Russell
- 10:37Speaker 2: is the same guy he was in twenty seventeen and
- 10:39Speaker 2: twenty eighteen when he was competing for MVP Awards and
- 10:42Speaker 2: getting the Seahawks through the playoffs or he's this different
- 10:44Speaker 2: version of himself, I think at the very least there's
- 10:47Speaker 2: a presence. And I'll add this, you know, I'm looking
- 10:50Speaker 2: at the numbers yesterdays they were coming in and it's
- 10:52Speaker 2: ten and a half million, and he can make up
- 10:53Speaker 2: to I think fifteen million with incentives, and Jamis will
- 10:56Speaker 2: make eight. Duk Trescott's going to make sixty million, dollars
- 11:00Speaker 2: to be the Cowboys quarterback.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Sixty that's sixty six, ohs. Russell Wilson will make ten.
- 11:06Speaker 3: So for one sixth of.
- 11:07Speaker 2: What you're paying Dak Prescott, you get your starting quarterback.
- 11:11Speaker 2: And I don't know if Dak Prescott is six times
- 11:14Speaker 2: the player that Russell Wilson is. So we'll see and
- 11:17Speaker 2: go to the giant situation Rogers. They had to at
- 11:21Speaker 2: some point and be like, we're not going to justcend.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Here and wait.
- 11:23Speaker 2: They go on, Rogers is going to likely be either
- 11:25Speaker 2: in Pittsburgh or not playing at all. And now I
- 11:27Speaker 2: have Russell Wilson, a competent quarterback, and you still leave
- 11:30Speaker 2: the door open for that third. Overall, I feel a
- 11:32Speaker 2: lot better today about it.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Seeing kind of Russ and hearing Russ and.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Seeing him in New York being well received than I
- 11:39Speaker 2: did yesterday, where I was like, all right, Russell Wilson,
- 11:41Speaker 2: what's next? You know?
