- 0:34Speaker 2: Welcome to the ball Alert Show. Glad to be here, Babby,
- 0:36Speaker 2: thanks for having me listen.
- 0:38Speaker 5: We was having a great conversation off camera, and we
- 0:41Speaker 5: was talking about a lot of stuff that we wouldn't
- 0:44Speaker 5: expect legends to be hip hop because I did not
- 0:47Speaker 5: believe when you said that you manage all.
- 0:49Speaker 6: Your pages, yea, all your well, why do you manage
- 0:54Speaker 6: your own platforms?
- 0:56Speaker 2: Well, I mean the real reason is because, first of all,
- 0:59Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, Like I'm a nerd, you
- 1:02Speaker 2: know what I mean, Like, so I'm interested in shit
- 1:04Speaker 2: like that, you know what I mean. The second part
- 1:06Speaker 2: is that I want to be able to know what's
- 1:08Speaker 2: going on and I want people to hear from me
- 1:10Speaker 2: directly if I want to do it. And thirdly, like
- 1:12Speaker 2: you know, when you start respectfully like a bunch of
- 1:16Speaker 2: social media companies and all that, they don't necessarily get
- 1:18Speaker 2: your voice. So I don't need like a you know,
- 1:21Speaker 2: a fourteen year old girl from Michigan trying to put
- 1:23Speaker 2: verbas together that she thinks is gonna sound.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Like ll what's up? Dog? You know? This is the
- 1:29Speaker 3: goat I was if you you know what I mean.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Like, now, are you monetizing your pages?
- 1:34Speaker 3: Huh?
- 1:34Speaker 1: Are you monetizing your pages?
- 1:36Speaker 3: I don't really mind.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Well, I mean that's a yes, no or no, right,
- 1:39Speaker 2: because I mean my life I monetized, dog, Like I'm
- 1:42Speaker 2: pretty monetized. So the short answer is, do I focus
- 1:47Speaker 2: on the monetization of the pages themselves?
- 1:49Speaker 3: No, I don't do.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I have like little merch shops on some of the
- 1:53Speaker 2: page of course, But do I like go out of
- 1:55Speaker 2: my way to you know, no, I do not. But
- 2:00Speaker 2: but I'm not any for that per se. But that's
- 2:03Speaker 2: not but you know what, that's not a bad idea
- 2:05Speaker 2: for me to focus Like.
- 2:07Speaker 3: That's actually good, Like I probably need to do that.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I'm just a radar personality. But I get a nice
- 2:13Speaker 1: check from Facebook. I'm pretty sure he had a lot
- 2:16Speaker 1: of monthly Facebook.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Pretty nice. You know. You know, you know, money is
- 2:24Speaker 3: enough money right there?
- 2:26Speaker 6: You go lone of times, all of them, every single
- 2:29Speaker 6: one of them, especially TikTok Yo.
- 2:31Speaker 3: She came alive when we started talking about that.
- 2:32Speaker 6: Monitors, I need to get as much money as you
- 2:38Speaker 6: can get, no, because social media is paying.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Listen, you know I'm gay for it.
- 2:42Speaker 1: I'm so, I really wanted to ask you. I just
- 2:45Speaker 1: want to start with your name. Where did the name
- 2:46Speaker 1: come from?
- 2:48Speaker 3: Well?
- 2:48Speaker 2: You know, you know, I was sixteen, you know, I
- 2:50Speaker 2: was in a crew and like all the dudes had
- 2:53Speaker 2: names that kind of like applied to going after females,
- 2:55Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. So it would be like
- 2:57Speaker 2: the super Lover this one and a man playboy Mikey,
- 3:00Speaker 2: and so I made the LLL was Ladies love Cool James,
- 3:03Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, Like that was you know
- 3:04Speaker 2: our thing. You know, we wanted to, you know, but ladies,
- 3:07Speaker 2: we want we want to, you know, we wanted more
- 3:09Speaker 2: than a participation trophy, you know what I'm saying, Like
- 3:13Speaker 2: he really wanted to be in the game, you know
- 3:14Speaker 2: what I mean.
- 3:15Speaker 1: So and I know you were one of the very
- 3:17Speaker 1: first people to get a record deal at a very
- 3:19Speaker 1: young age and a time where like it was so
- 3:23Speaker 1: hard to get deals and be in the music industry.
- 3:26Speaker 1: You're at the piet I say, the pioneer, so.
- 3:31Speaker 2: I make it even So, I was the first artist
- 3:33Speaker 2: on deaf Jam, right, So we started the label that
- 3:36Speaker 2: death Jam was a production company and they it was they.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Rick Rubin one of the found the founder of the
- 3:42Speaker 2: logo and the actual label. He it was on a
- 3:47Speaker 2: street The name of the label was street Wise Party
- 3:49Speaker 2: Time and it was death Jam Productions. I bought a
- 3:50Speaker 2: song by this artist back then. His name was Tela
- 3:53Speaker 2: rock still Is and I ended up sending in a demo,
- 3:58Speaker 2: and you know, we ended up starting the label deaf Jam,
- 4:01Speaker 2: and I was the first artist. Russell Simmons and Rick
- 4:03Speaker 2: Rubin started the label and I was the flagship artist.
- 4:06Speaker 2: So all of the things that came out after that,
- 4:08Speaker 2: all of the artists that you can think of that
- 4:10Speaker 2: were on deaf Jam came were birth from that from
- 4:13Speaker 2: that moment, and I started that. I was sixteen years
- 4:16Speaker 2: old when we started the label and I got on
- 4:19Speaker 2: so and then it was but it was independent. Then
- 4:22Speaker 2: we signed a deal with CBS and got major distribution
- 4:27Speaker 2: and things.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Thank you for saying that, because I didn't know that
- 4:30Speaker 1: it was independent at first.
- 4:31Speaker 3: I thought, oh, yeah, no, it was completely Yeah.
- 4:33Speaker 2: See when I when I started, there were no there
- 4:35Speaker 2: was no hip hop industry, you know what I'm saying.
- 4:38Speaker 1: So you basically created the genre.
- 4:40Speaker 2: No, I definitely was a fan of the genre from
- 4:43Speaker 2: the beginning. So I became a fan of eight years old, right,
- 4:48Speaker 2: you know, but before they made rap records, before they
- 4:51Speaker 2: were records, it was all on tapes and on mixtapes
- 4:53Speaker 2: and like what we would call blend tapes today. You
- 4:56Speaker 2: would catch him at the parks and stuff like that, right,
- 4:59Speaker 2: So I, you know, I became a fan of eight.
- 5:02Speaker 2: When I was eleven or twelve, I started writing, right,
- 5:04Speaker 2: and then when I was fourteen, I started trying to.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Make a demo, and then at age sixteen we started
- 5:09Speaker 3: Death Jam.
- 5:10Speaker 2: But there was labels like sugar Hill, and there were
- 5:13Speaker 2: labels like Enjoy, and they were labels like Tommy Boy,
- 5:16Speaker 2: which were early but they but death Jam was the
- 5:20Speaker 2: first label that that that in the modern era, because
- 5:24Speaker 2: you know, it's kind of like art. There's there's modern postmodern,
- 5:27Speaker 2: there's contemporary, right, Well, death jam ushered in a modern
- 5:32Speaker 2: era for the time, you know what I'm saying, Like
- 5:34Speaker 2: all those.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Other labels were we were.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Like pre you know what I'm saying, Like they were
- 5:39Speaker 2: like they were contemporaries, and then all of a sudden,
- 5:41Speaker 2: death jam are ushered in the modern era.
- 5:44Speaker 3: You date, so you.
- 5:45Speaker 6: Said, like at eight years old is when you when
- 5:47Speaker 6: you got the love of music?
- 5:49Speaker 4: So who inspired you? Who were you listening to?
- 5:51Speaker 2: So there was there was there was a Treacherous Three,
- 5:54Speaker 2: There was the Feelers four.
- 5:55Speaker 3: There was a Foursome Seeds.
- 5:56Speaker 2: There was a Cold Crush you know, which is like JDL,
- 5:59Speaker 2: Almighty KG, Grand Master CAZ. There was you know, there
- 6:03Speaker 2: was you know the Fourth MC's, you know Mercury and
- 6:06Speaker 2: all you know, all of them from Staten Island. There
- 6:09Speaker 2: was a fantastic Romantic five, Whip a Whip. There was
- 6:12Speaker 2: all these different artists that never really recorded. Then there
- 6:15Speaker 2: was also Grandmaster Flash in the Furious five and the
- 6:18Speaker 2: Treacherous Three and the Crash Crew and the Fearless four
- 6:21Speaker 2: and Zulu Nation and all these different groups that were
- 6:26Speaker 2: in this small world in New York. You know what
- 6:28Speaker 2: I'm saying, and we were just kind of exposed to it,
- 6:32Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. So I was like, I'm
- 6:35Speaker 2: like a kind of a hybrid of sorts because I
- 6:38Speaker 2: was a.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Fan of the very I was that.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Fan at the very beginning, you know what I'm saying,
- 6:43Speaker 2: And also got the.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Like record very young.
- 6:46Speaker 2: So because of that, like my chronological contemporaries would be
- 6:52Speaker 2: like Jay and Pack and Biggie. Chronologically from an age standpoint, it's.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Like Jay and Pack and Big and all them.
- 7:00Speaker 2: But from a rap standpoint, I'm like ten fifteen years earlier,
- 7:04Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying in terms of hip hop,
- 7:06Speaker 2: because I started so young, you.
- 7:07Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying. Like I was like, but
- 7:09Speaker 3: I just wasn't a kiddie rapper.
- 7:11Speaker 2: I started very young, but I didn't come out as
- 7:13Speaker 2: a kiddy rapper, So nobody ever saw me as that.
- 7:15Speaker 3: We'll be right back with more of a Buller Alert show.
- 7:20Speaker 4: How do you feel about hip hop in today's age?
- 7:23Speaker 2: I think I don't. I don't have any issues with it.
- 7:26Speaker 2: I think that you know, see anything, The key is
- 7:32Speaker 2: that anything that you do is going to evolve and change, right,
- 7:35Speaker 2: So the question becomes, here's the difference.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Here's the difference with hip hop.
- 7:40Speaker 2: You know, it's funny, it's a big word, but it's
- 7:43Speaker 2: the democratization has taken place.
- 7:45Speaker 3: So what does that mean?
- 7:46Speaker 2: Basically, what it means is that now everybody can play
- 7:49Speaker 2: in the NBA. Right, It's like like today in the NBA,
- 7:54Speaker 2: Steph and Kad and you know and and you know
- 7:59Speaker 2: and everybody you could think of that you love. They
- 8:04Speaker 2: they are in a world. They're in a like a
- 8:06Speaker 2: like a walled garden. And you can't play in the
- 8:08Speaker 2: NBA just because you want to play, right, okay, even
- 8:12Speaker 2: if you bounce the ball. See well, in hip hop,
- 8:14Speaker 2: when I first started, it was like that. It was
- 8:17Speaker 2: like you can't play unless you at a certain level
- 8:19Speaker 2: or a certain skill set and all that that changed.
- 8:23Speaker 2: The Internet changed that. So now everybody, anybody can who
- 8:26Speaker 2: can bounce the ball can play. Is that a bad thing?
- 8:28Speaker 2: Sometimes it is? Sometimes it isn't. It depends. Like an
- 8:32Speaker 2: artist like Soldier Boy wouldn't have happened when we first
- 8:35Speaker 2: started that that wouldn't have been possible.
- 8:37Speaker 3: That story Soldier bore character stream, you.
- 8:39Speaker 5: Know, not the.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Gotcha he liked that ship. Look at him. I'm going
- 8:46Speaker 3: he don't wower y'all. No, I was really just thinking
- 8:49Speaker 3: like that, what son?
- 8:50Speaker 2: But you know what, the reason why I use him
- 8:52Speaker 2: as an example was because he was that. He's the
- 8:55Speaker 2: first he was And I just talked about it earlier
- 8:58Speaker 2: to SOLDI, I love you bro about with Jady no
- 9:02Speaker 2: my man, Ray. But the thing is, because of the
- 9:07Speaker 2: way YouTube happened and the way it emerged, it was
- 9:10Speaker 2: there was no real gatekeepers involved with his success.
- 9:13Speaker 3: That's why his story couldn't have happened.
- 9:15Speaker 2: He's you know, you know, he made a great song
- 9:18Speaker 2: and you know with that first song and it went
- 9:20Speaker 2: from there and all that. But that was the thing.
- 9:22Speaker 2: So it's like, those are the differences in hip hop.
- 9:25Speaker 2: The other differences in hip hop is that now you
- 9:29Speaker 2: know the current society, the mindset is much more layered, right,
- 9:34Speaker 2: It's a more layered way of thinking. So you know
- 9:36Speaker 2: when we when we were first started, you make a song,
- 9:39Speaker 2: you make a rhyme, you make a record, that was it.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Or you make a rhyme, you wrap it a party,
- 9:44Speaker 2: You make a rhyme, you make a record, maybe you
- 9:46Speaker 2: make a video.
- 9:47Speaker 3: That's it.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Now, Like I was saying earlier to somebody, a girl
- 9:51Speaker 2: would make a song, then you make a rhyme that
- 9:53Speaker 2: she's thinking about a video, and then she's thinking about
- 9:54Speaker 2: a brand, and then she's thinking about monetization of pages
- 9:58Speaker 2: and thinking about and she's thinking about her she's thinking
- 10:02Speaker 2: about all of the ways to create an ecosystem around
- 10:04Speaker 2: themselves that goes beyond just the craft. So that's the difference,
- 10:09Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, That's like the major difference.
- 10:12Speaker 5: Like it's no structure, basically what you're saying with the
- 10:15Speaker 5: new generation.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Now there is structure.
- 10:17Speaker 2: I just think it's a it's a much more it's
- 10:20Speaker 2: a it's a much more savvy way.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Of approaching the art form.
- 10:26Speaker 2: What happens though, is now the one the one thing,
- 10:28Speaker 2: the one thing that you got to remember, you know
- 10:30Speaker 2: what I'm saying is that because of that, sometimes sometimes
- 10:34Speaker 2: not always, sometimes they don't focus on the craft as
- 10:36Speaker 2: much because they're so focused on being It's like they're
- 10:42Speaker 2: so focused on being a star that they maybe not
- 10:44Speaker 2: bouncing the ball as much.
- 10:46Speaker 3: You feel me, they're not playing with the rock as much.
- 10:49Speaker 2: So you know, you know, you know, it's a little
- 10:51Speaker 2: harder to get a Kyrie because you know, Kyrie would
- 10:55Speaker 2: be like over here worrying about his T shirt line
- 10:58Speaker 2: instead of bouncing the ball.
- 10:59Speaker 1: What do you think?
- 11:01Speaker 6: So we did speak about how it's a we know
- 11:06Speaker 6: that hip hop is changing, it's evolving as an artist,
- 11:10Speaker 6: do you feel that you have to do that as well?
- 11:12Speaker 6: Like you need to involve evolve, like of what you
- 11:16Speaker 6: think the people may want to hear at this day
- 11:19Speaker 6: and age. And I bring that up because I know,
- 11:21Speaker 6: you know, passion is out and it gave me nostalgia vibes.
- 11:26Speaker 4: You know, it took me back to like real hip hop.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Yeah, so so here's my thing with that, right, you
- 11:35Speaker 2: can't fake create, you know what I'm saying, like not
- 11:39Speaker 2: If you want to last, you gotta do what you love.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Now what does that mean? That means you got to
- 11:44Speaker 2: really pay attention. You got to understand the mindset.
- 11:47Speaker 3: Of the word.
- 11:47Speaker 2: You can't make music that reaches the people if you
- 11:50Speaker 2: don't understand the people.
- 11:51Speaker 3: If you don't know that people are still smelling pissy elevators.
- 11:54Speaker 2: And you know, and you don't know that people are
- 11:57Speaker 2: you know, sleeping on the floor to avoid gunshots, and
- 12:00Speaker 2: if you don't understand danger and if you only living
- 12:03Speaker 2: in your star bubble, you know, you're gonna be boring,
- 12:07Speaker 2: you're gonna be leading with your wallet, and ultimately that
- 12:10Speaker 2: shit is gonna be goofy, you know what I mean.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Like that's where it's gonna end up right now in
- 12:15Speaker 2: terms of like what people are gonna want to hear.
- 12:19Speaker 3: The way I look at it is like this.
- 12:21Speaker 2: If I was sixteen, if I was nineteen, if I
- 12:23Speaker 2: was twenty two, I don't really care about your resume.
- 12:25Speaker 3: That shit don't matter to me. I respect it.
- 12:28Speaker 2: But if you want to impress me when I press play,
- 12:31Speaker 2: I gotta like that shit. Like that's ultimately where like
- 12:35Speaker 2: all that other shit is cool, it's great.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, go yeah, yeah, yeah, man, you're the man.
- 12:39Speaker 3: You did this. Yeah cool?
- 12:40Speaker 2: Press play Transparent, Press play transparent.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Moment I'm getting on my way up here, I'm talking
- 12:48Speaker 1: to my sixteen year old, I'm like, yeah, I interview
- 12:51Speaker 1: l today. She's like, oh yeah, I love him as
- 12:53Speaker 1: an actor, Like yeah right, he was like what. I
- 12:57Speaker 1: was like yes, and I start educating her the music.
- 13:00Speaker 1: But listen, salute to you for the fourteenth album. Could
- 13:04Speaker 1: we get some snaps on that, please. I don't know
- 13:08Speaker 1: nobody that got fourteen.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Artists that have way more mistakes.
- 13:13Speaker 5: But I don't know about fortunate, but a lot of
- 13:15Speaker 5: people that got fourteen albums still not here.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, you're still here. Yeah yeah.
- 13:21Speaker 2: You know what, man, you gotta love it, baby, you
- 13:23Speaker 2: gotta love that ship new song with Rick Ross and
- 13:26Speaker 2: uh J. Yeah yeah, Saturday Night Special and then the
- 13:29Speaker 2: Passion Joint. The album is chocked full of all concert joints.
- 13:33Speaker 3: I gotta joint.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Tell your conscious on the dress? Hold, huh you on point?
- 13:36Speaker 1: Everything was on point because I'm analyzing. I'm over here,
- 13:38Speaker 1: like this is gonna fit what we're talking about right now?
- 13:41Speaker 2: Yeah it fits, like, yeah, they expect me to have
- 13:44Speaker 2: skinny jeans over my bains and my cam showing.
- 13:47Speaker 3: I already know what it is. You know what it is, bro,
- 13:49Speaker 3: You know what it is. Listen.
- 13:53Speaker 1: No, I'm just saying.
- 13:56Speaker 3: I already know it. You know you know what they
- 13:59Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, Like, because but you know
- 14:01Speaker 3: why that happens. Let me tell you what it is.
- 14:06Speaker 2: First of all, you know what really happens. People just
- 14:10Speaker 2: forget about the world. Man, They just forget that the
- 14:13Speaker 2: world exists, and it becomes so self absorbed that they
- 14:16Speaker 2: don't change.
- 14:17Speaker 3: They don't adapt. They don't. And the other thing is, see,
- 14:23Speaker 3: were you never like that?
- 14:24Speaker 2: No, but but there are moments when you are more
- 14:27Speaker 2: closed than other moments. You got to be self aware.
- 14:30Speaker 2: He keeps you grounded or you gotta have I mean,
- 14:36Speaker 2: the short answer is you can't be an arrogant asshole.
- 14:39Speaker 2: I mean, that's the short answer. You gotta have faith
- 14:41Speaker 2: in God. You got actual staff? Is he is he
- 14:43Speaker 2: an asshole?
- 14:44Speaker 3: You know? Paid good?
- 14:48Speaker 2: I was like, I'll answer no, but I'll answer I
- 14:52Speaker 2: would say nine of the time I'm not.
- 14:55Speaker 3: And you know.
- 15:00Speaker 6: What brings that tempercent out people asking me that question.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what I mean, like, you know, you
- 15:13Speaker 2: just got to be like listen, you just gotta pay attention.
- 15:16Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying, You just got to pay
- 15:17Speaker 3: attention to care.
- 15:18Speaker 2: And also what I was going to say is, you know,
- 15:21Speaker 2: as you mature in your life, right, you still got
- 15:23Speaker 2: to be willing to learn from everybody.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Some people and I learned this just from me, Like I've.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Had dudes like that I looked at as for quote
- 15:31Speaker 2: unquote big homies. Right, but maybe in my life I
- 15:35Speaker 2: may have done some things and you know, surpassed some
- 15:37Speaker 2: of the things that they did or took it to
- 15:39Speaker 2: another level. But they because they are older than me,
- 15:42Speaker 2: they think they can't learn from me. That's a big mistake.
- 15:45Speaker 2: So when I you know, if I hear you know,
- 15:47Speaker 2: somebody from a different generation two three generations from me
- 15:50Speaker 2: talking about yo yo.
- 15:51Speaker 3: You should check this shit out. I checked this shit out.
- 15:54Speaker 2: I actually pay attention, like it doesn't bother me, Like,
- 15:58Speaker 2: I don't have an issue with learning from you know people,
- 16:02Speaker 2: So I think that that's kind of where that that
- 16:05Speaker 2: disconnect happens a lot of times, you know what I'm saying,
- 16:07Speaker 2: Because a lot of dudes, like and even some females,
- 16:10Speaker 2: they don't like to learn from people that are younger
- 16:13Speaker 2: than them.
- 16:13Speaker 3: That's fact.
- 16:14Speaker 2: They don't like that shit like and I don't really
- 16:17Speaker 2: know why that is, but that's like.
- 16:19Speaker 5: They be stuck in their waist because it's like a
- 16:21Speaker 5: lot of family members too that you would be younger,
- 16:24Speaker 5: but you might be more experienced, Like you traveled the world,
- 16:26Speaker 5: You've seen different type of kol tracts, and then you
- 16:28Speaker 5: try to go back home to the neighborhood.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Look, I need to learn that. Look, so I got
- 16:33Speaker 1: a little dad's stomach. Oh here you go.
- 16:35Speaker 3: He's been waiting to ask you this, even.
- 16:37Speaker 1: To watch board. You know what I'm saying, I need
- 16:40Speaker 1: some tips, big dog, Like is it? Do you? Are
- 16:43Speaker 1: you still working now? Because I saw you eat that donut?
- 16:46Speaker 1: Are you gonna go work out today because you ate
- 16:48Speaker 1: that piece of that donut?
- 16:49Speaker 3: Not because I hate the doughnut. I'm gonna work out
- 16:51Speaker 3: because I want to. But yeah, I like to eat.
- 16:53Speaker 3: I like to You know, I'm not gonna be bored.
- 16:54Speaker 1: It's just not going nowhere though, you.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Know, we would really have to look at it. You know,
- 16:59Speaker 3: you're tweaky in it off the little.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Crazy good sandwiches, hot sauce, potato salad with and what's
- 17:09Speaker 2: your diet like right now? Right now, just at this
- 17:12Speaker 2: particular time when you're asking me, I haven't been eating
- 17:14Speaker 2: no meat and chicken. That's been eating really like fish
- 17:17Speaker 2: and shrimp and stuff like that.
- 17:19Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying.
- 17:20Speaker 2: But it varies, No, but it ferries though it varies,
- 17:23Speaker 2: man like steak when you eat a lot of red meat.
- 17:26Speaker 3: What were you talking about?
- 17:27Speaker 7: But when you eat a lot of red meat, people
- 17:28Speaker 7: talking about when you eat a lot of red meat,
- 17:31Speaker 7: you can't get the interview about you can get bloated.
- 17:35Speaker 7: You know what I'm saying, You could get bloated with
- 17:37Speaker 7: the red meat because he has a lot of creatine
- 17:39Speaker 7: in it. So you'll find when you eat a lot
- 17:40Speaker 7: of steak, you start getting And now I'm a really.
- 17:44Speaker 3: This is horrify you gotta get I put it the
- 17:46Speaker 3: nice way. Clean yourself out.
- 17:48Speaker 2: It's self cleaned out, and then you'll find what all
- 17:51Speaker 2: that should go down?
- 17:52Speaker 5: And you you happen a lot of people because there's
- 17:55Speaker 5: a lot of people that's gonna be watching his interview.
- 17:58Speaker 3: They got that too bad shot fire. You forgot that too,
- 18:06Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying.
- 18:07Speaker 5: People trying to you know, it's the summertime, people trying
- 18:09Speaker 5: to slim up, and you know you gotta be look this.
- 18:11Speaker 3: Week, will be able to take your shirt off at
- 18:13Speaker 3: the pool.
- 18:13Speaker 2: So you want to have stamming in your whole life,
- 18:16Speaker 2: like like like you know I have, you know, like
- 18:20Speaker 2: I've never felt old.
- 18:22Speaker 3: I just put it like that, you know what I mean.
- 18:24Speaker 2: You want to have stamming in your whole life, like
- 18:26Speaker 2: you know, like when you you know you want to
- 18:28Speaker 2: be able to you know, yeah, you won't be able
- 18:33Speaker 2: to reach the rim.
- 18:34Speaker 3: I don't have no problem.
- 18:35Speaker 6: So you got to take just the workout. What's the
- 18:38Speaker 6: workout plan? What does it look like?
- 18:39Speaker 3: You going to.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Minimum four or five times a week? And I work
- 18:43Speaker 2: mostly on stamina. I don't I lift, but I don't
- 18:47Speaker 2: lift super duper heavy relative to my size. Relatively speaking,
- 18:51Speaker 2: I don't go super heavy. I do shoulders, I do chests.
- 18:54Speaker 2: I make sure that I elevate my heart rate.
- 18:57Speaker 3: You know.
- 18:57Speaker 2: I do the stand, the step, the steps, I think,
- 19:00Speaker 2: I do sprints on a treadmill, I do the elliptical.
- 19:03Speaker 2: It depends on my I listen to my body. If
- 19:05Speaker 2: my elbow feels funny, okay, I'll leave that alone. If
- 19:08Speaker 2: something you know feeling right, I'm moving to something else.
- 19:12Speaker 2: I just always exercise. And you want stammina. Stammina is
- 19:15Speaker 2: key in life. Stammin is key, man.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I always wanted to ask you this too, What do
- 19:20Speaker 1: you enjoy more? Do you enjoy movies and television because
- 19:23Speaker 1: you're a natural at that, not more than music?
- 19:25Speaker 3: Music?
- 19:26Speaker 2: On first love, music put me in position to do
- 19:28Speaker 2: all that stuff. I love it and I'm grateful I
- 19:30Speaker 2: could do it. And you should never limit yourself. And
- 19:32Speaker 2: if you have more than one talent. You should use
- 19:33Speaker 2: them all, you know what I'm saying. But music's my
- 19:35Speaker 2: first is it?
- 19:36Speaker 1: N Cisdore?
- 19:39Speaker 3: I did it? I did it for fifteen years? Wow? Yeah.
- 19:43Speaker 5: Did you have a lot of friends that were peers
- 19:46Speaker 5: of yours in the music business that the more they
- 19:49Speaker 5: see you evolve and you know, they kind of was
- 19:52Speaker 5: stuck on the music. Did you give like a lot
- 19:54Speaker 5: of jealousy, like frenemies when people was like, man, he
- 19:58Speaker 5: like doing like he's still going.
- 20:00Speaker 3: We're trying to figure it out. You're laughing because well.
- 20:03Speaker 2: I'm laughing because you know, the music industry in general
- 20:06Speaker 2: and entertainment is full of coopetition. Because that's what you're
- 20:10Speaker 2: talking about in front of me. It's not as much
- 20:12Speaker 2: front of me as it is coopetition. So yeah, you
- 20:16Speaker 2: deal with some of that. But you know, my job
- 20:18Speaker 2: is to show people as possible. I'm just showing dudes
- 20:21Speaker 2: and showing.
- 20:22Speaker 3: People that, yo, you could keep going at a high level.
- 20:24Speaker 2: It's like you see bron playing in the twenty first year.
- 20:26Speaker 2: I'm doing that in music years. You know, I'm just
- 20:29Speaker 2: showing people what's possible, you know what i mean. Like
- 20:32Speaker 2: that's the fun thing about it, you know, just showing
- 20:34Speaker 2: them what's possible. And if you do catch a little
- 20:37Speaker 2: bit of that hate and all that, I mean, whatever,
- 20:39Speaker 2: like you know what we're gonna do. Well, you know,
- 20:41Speaker 2: go home and you know, practice a violent and sob
- 20:44Speaker 2: because somebody's upset with your success. I don't think so
- 20:47Speaker 2: bro hold that man, Yeah, you know, how's that working
- 20:50Speaker 2: out for you?
- 20:51Speaker 3: Hating? Oh? How's that working out for you? You know
- 20:54Speaker 3: what I mean?
- 20:55Speaker 5: Do you still feel like that hip hop needs to
- 20:58Speaker 5: have a retirement plan? I say, you know that was
- 21:01Speaker 5: going viral or where you were talking about there needs
- 21:04Speaker 5: to be some type of retirement plan for hip hop artists.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Well, first of all, I mean that's a two sided question.
- 21:11Speaker 2: First of all, artists can't You can't retire from art.
- 21:14Speaker 2: I don't even know what that means. Okay, And you
- 21:18Speaker 2: know hip hop and being what I do in creating,
- 21:21Speaker 2: that's it becomes a source of income. But it's not
- 21:25Speaker 2: a job, it's a life in it. You know, when
- 21:27Speaker 2: you're an artist, you're an artist, that's what you are.
- 21:30Speaker 2: You paint, you sculpt, you direct, you write films like
- 21:35Speaker 2: you are what you are like, So there is no
- 21:37Speaker 2: retirement from that.
- 21:38Speaker 3: That's a lifelong commitment.
- 21:40Speaker 2: If you're really that I'm The other thing I want
- 21:43Speaker 2: to say before answer is that, you know, I'm very
- 21:47Speaker 2: comfortable with somebody looking at me and saying he's a rapper,
- 21:49Speaker 2: he's an MC. You don't have to say nothing else
- 21:52Speaker 2: about nothing else, And I'm good with that. I don't
- 21:54Speaker 2: need to, like, like, I'm not gonna undermine a craft
- 21:58Speaker 2: that has changed the world by sheepening it and saying like, oh,
- 22:02Speaker 2: I have to do other things to validate my existence
- 22:05Speaker 2: because this ain't enough.
- 22:06Speaker 3: That's bullshit.
- 22:07Speaker 2: This is enough. Hip hop is enough, you know what
- 22:10Speaker 2: I'm saying. Like I started death Jam, you know, I
- 22:13Speaker 2: came up with the term goat.
- 22:15Speaker 3: You know you have any stocks?
- 22:17Speaker 1: Do you have any ownership?
- 22:18Speaker 2: I'm going the piece of death Jam early on. But
- 22:20Speaker 2: the thing is, it's, you know, there's two parts of
- 22:24Speaker 2: that conversation too, right, like, yeah, I'm doing great, but
- 22:28Speaker 2: that's not really the What it is is what we
- 22:31Speaker 2: get caught up in sometimes is And that's the one
- 22:33Speaker 2: thing about the new generation that's very interesting, and you
- 22:36Speaker 2: got to be able to make the fine distinction. What
- 22:39Speaker 2: Miles Davis did for music has nothing to do with
- 22:41Speaker 2: his bank account. Don't make those things the same. That's
- 22:46Speaker 2: a that's a big mistake. There's nothing wrong with monetization.
- 22:50Speaker 2: You should capitalize, you should maximize. You should optimize everything
- 22:53Speaker 2: you're doing. But don't get it twisted. You can make
- 22:56Speaker 2: a cultural impact and not necessarily monetize it. The right
- 23:00Speaker 2: brothers ain't make no money for cracking the cold on
- 23:03Speaker 2: the plane you dig like, like, but they they impacted
- 23:08Speaker 2: the world, so like, I get it, but they're kind
- 23:11Speaker 2: of separate, right, okay, so so so and then what
- 23:15Speaker 2: was the first part of the question you had asked?
- 23:17Speaker 2: Just that first part because we went off on a tangent,
- 23:20Speaker 2: which which one the one I asked the Ferrari asks? No,
- 23:23Speaker 2: the one you the Ferrari about about death Jam, about
- 23:28Speaker 2: the stock in death Jam.
- 23:29Speaker 3: No, No, before I don't know, it might be.
- 23:35Speaker 5: How you driving, but I was really listen to you.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's just like bottom line is it was
- 23:43Speaker 2: like the true sides of it, the money and the
- 23:45Speaker 2: and the music and the.
- 23:46Speaker 5: Oh you was talking about like you don't like how
- 23:48Speaker 5: the new generation is uh is trying to kind of
- 23:52Speaker 5: base people's success based on the money in there.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a very that's a slippery slope. Right, that's
- 23:57Speaker 2: a slippery slope, because that's not it doesn't matter how
- 24:01Speaker 2: much money Prince had, bro say less.
- 24:04Speaker 3: That's a different skill set and it's important. I'm not bro.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Like you see her shirt right there, that shirt you
- 24:12Speaker 2: have on right there, that paid him full shirt.
- 24:14Speaker 3: The real guys in that movie.
- 24:15Speaker 2: I hung with them every day from age seventeen to twenty.
- 24:18Speaker 2: The real guys, like the real like like the real
- 24:22Speaker 2: Alpo and the real rich Porter and not Rico Alpo
- 24:26Speaker 2: and the real rich Porter and the real Az.
- 24:28Speaker 3: Those are my friends. So what I'm saying is, like,
- 24:32Speaker 3: how accurate was that movie? Huh?
- 24:33Speaker 1: How accurate was that movie?
- 24:36Speaker 3: It was fairly accurate. Okay, it was fairly accurate.
- 24:39Speaker 2: It was on you know, some of it was accurate
- 24:42Speaker 2: because you know, yeah, it was fairly fairly you know.
- 24:44Speaker 2: It was some changes made to it that I'm sure
- 24:47Speaker 2: a Z would feel he you know, but it was fair.
- 24:50Speaker 3: It was some parts of it that was it was real.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Like the impact on the culture in Harlem at the
- 24:55Speaker 2: time was it was all that. It was probably even
- 24:58Speaker 2: more impactful if you lived it seeing it, you know
- 25:01Speaker 2: what I mean.
- 25:02Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying.
- 25:03Speaker 6: We'll be right by, stay tuned with more of the
- 25:06Speaker 6: ball or Alert show. So we all of us in
- 25:11Speaker 6: this room, we know that you are a legend, and
- 25:15Speaker 6: I just want to know what do you want your
- 25:18Speaker 6: legacy to be?
- 25:19Speaker 2: So, you know what's funny, nobody gets to correct their tombstone.
- 25:26Speaker 2: You don't know what your legacy is gonna be. And
- 25:28Speaker 2: why do we know that? Because if I put this
- 25:30Speaker 2: bottle of water on the Internet and say it's a
- 25:32Speaker 2: bottle of water, somebody's gonna.
- 25:33Speaker 8: Oh, it's actually a plastic thing without Oh, actually have
- 25:36Speaker 8: some It couldn't be vodka, could like, they're going to
- 25:39Speaker 8: beef about this, right, So I don't worry about legacy.
- 25:43Speaker 2: It's about being in the moment. It's about just planting
- 25:48Speaker 2: the seeds. You know what I'm saying, Like, yo, listen, man,
- 25:51Speaker 2: apple tree, keep growing apples to it's finished. Man, orange,
- 25:54Speaker 2: keep growing oranges till it's finished. Like all that legacy.
- 25:57Speaker 2: I don't know, you know what I'm saying, because everybody's
- 26:01Speaker 2: gonna remember me for something different.
- 26:02Speaker 3: You know what I mean? What I want to do is,
- 26:05Speaker 3: you know, I just want to do.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Dope shit and do cool shit my entire life and
- 26:09Speaker 2: show people that it's possible in that dreams don't have
- 26:11Speaker 2: deadlines and you could keep getting it and keep having fun.
- 26:14Speaker 2: And that's the because see that's the thing that people like.
- 26:17Speaker 2: That's the one thing we got to remember. Everybody's so
- 26:20Speaker 2: focused on getting the money. And the money comes, it does,
- 26:22Speaker 2: it really does if you're great at what you do,
- 26:24Speaker 2: But are you having fun? Like are you having fun?
- 26:28Speaker 2: Like like's I don't like, I don't ever hear it.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Like the reason I started getting in the rhyme and
- 26:32Speaker 2: MC and the hip hop is to have fucking fun,
- 26:35Speaker 2: to have some fun, you know what I'm saying, Like,
- 26:38Speaker 2: the only vision you want money is to have fun.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Like people forget that. You don't want money to like
- 26:43Speaker 2: the craziest thing. The only reason you want money is
- 26:46Speaker 2: to have fun. That is the only reason fun. And
- 26:49Speaker 2: take care of you because even taking.
- 26:51Speaker 3: Care of people is fun, like.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Even being there for your mama, It is fun being
- 26:56Speaker 2: there for different people. So it's like, so we can't
- 27:00Speaker 2: get caught up in like just money, money, money leading
- 27:04Speaker 2: with your wallet leading with you what it's like, Yeah, okay,
- 27:06Speaker 2: we're gonna get that, okay, prime example, like with the music, right, listen,
- 27:12Speaker 2: a rapper. He comes out, he's talking that money talk.
- 27:15Speaker 3: You love it.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Twelve years later he's still talking that money talk. Now
- 27:19Speaker 2: you're looking at it like, dude, do you have anything else.
- 27:22Speaker 3: To talk about?
- 27:23Speaker 2: Like, my god, please just just could you put a
- 27:27Speaker 2: black T shirt on and talk about taking fucking necklace off?
- 27:31Speaker 3: Talk anything? Please? Please? Bro?
- 27:35Speaker 2: Like yo, did anything happened recently that you care about
- 27:40Speaker 2: a little bit?
- 27:42Speaker 3: Right?
- 27:42Speaker 2: So those are the So that's what we gotta remember,
- 27:45Speaker 2: because you know what, all of usdden here we different generations.
- 27:48Speaker 3: But I bet you know Bob Marley, you god damn right,
- 27:51Speaker 3: you just I'll just watched this movie on the planet.
- 27:53Speaker 2: You know, you see that and you know why you
- 27:56Speaker 2: because he talked about something, because he has something to say.
- 27:59Speaker 2: And guess what, love free. And you don't care what
- 28:01Speaker 2: Bob Marley had in the bank. You might have died
- 28:04Speaker 2: with a half a million, do you care?
- 28:06Speaker 3: No?
- 28:06Speaker 2: And that because that's not the metric for success. It
- 28:10Speaker 2: is the metric for financial success, but it's not the
- 28:13Speaker 2: metric for cultural success. Bob Marley did not have to
- 28:16Speaker 2: be rich. He was rich, and what he did and
- 28:18Speaker 2: what he created and what he put in the world,
- 28:21Speaker 2: you know, what I'm saying, that shit matters be you
- 28:23Speaker 2: know what I'm saying. Like I was talking to somebody earlier.
- 28:25Speaker 2: That's why I said, like, you got these dudes, the
- 28:27Speaker 2: first thing they want to do, they won't leave with
- 28:28Speaker 2: their wallet, you know what I'm saying. But Homie, the
- 28:32Speaker 2: wallet can't uncorner.
- 28:33Speaker 1: You, facts will it can't?
- 28:37Speaker 2: You know, a wallet can't you know, it could get
- 28:39Speaker 2: you access to somebody who wants access to that wile
- 28:42Speaker 2: we know what that is.
- 28:44Speaker 3: But that's a different conversation, is what it is.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Maybe you're comfortable with that, great, But I'm just saying
- 28:49Speaker 2: it can't uncorner you, you know what I mean.
- 28:52Speaker 4: So that's that's kind of anything that I appreciate it.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Oh, some they did.
- 29:02Speaker 3: I watched it happen.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Commercial. Yeah, nobody, nobody was on that, and you took
- 29:12Speaker 2: a chance for a gap commercial as well. So I
- 29:15Speaker 2: talked about it. So he's talking about a long time
- 29:18Speaker 2: ago I had. There was a Damon John who's on
- 29:20Speaker 2: a Shark tank. Him and Keith and some other guys.
- 29:25Speaker 2: They started a clothing line called Fooble Forced Bias. I'm
- 29:30Speaker 2: one of the owners of foolble Was. We did that
- 29:33Speaker 2: and it was a nineties I don't ninety something. So
- 29:38Speaker 2: it did well, it blew up. But one of the
- 29:40Speaker 2: things I did was I had to do with Gap commercial.
- 29:42Speaker 2: I wore a fooble hat in the Gap commercial, you.
- 29:46Speaker 3: Know what I mean? Like, and now to think it
- 29:51Speaker 3: was yo, you know what bottom line is, this is
- 29:54Speaker 3: not gonna hurt them.
- 29:55Speaker 2: They got a trillion doledge and it's gonna help my
- 29:58Speaker 2: homies and it's gonna help us.
- 30:00Speaker 3: And so I just made that decision. Listen. You know
- 30:03Speaker 3: we read it in.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Mythology all the time, the Trojan Horse. You know, we
- 30:06Speaker 2: know about this Troy. You know, I mean, it is
- 30:10Speaker 2: what it is, you know what I'm saying. So like, listen, man,
- 30:14Speaker 2: in life, you got to be aggressive.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Man, you know what I'm saying. You gotta go get
- 30:17Speaker 3: that thing like.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Yeah, oh of course, oh yeah yeah for us bias
- 30:24Speaker 2: on the load, yeah yeah, yeah, gotcha surprise surprise yeah yeah, yes, yes,
- 30:34Speaker 2: I absolutely planned for yours.
- 30:36Speaker 3: Yeah, So it was planned for you to do the
- 30:39Speaker 3: commercial and say I'm wearing our plan to do it.
- 30:42Speaker 3: I didn't. I didn't tell them I was planning, So
- 30:45Speaker 3: they didn't know that.
- 30:46Speaker 1: No, no, they didn't know what kind of hell it
- 30:48Speaker 1: was either no.
- 30:48Speaker 2: They said, well, you know, you can't wear this hat
- 30:51Speaker 2: because it's it's not a you know, it's not you
- 30:54Speaker 2: don't know it's not you don't have a clearance.
- 30:56Speaker 3: I said, I don't worry about it. I own it.
- 30:58Speaker 3: It's like, okay, that was that of the infamous, but.
- 31:07Speaker 1: You knew he was doing something big company but he was.
- 31:10Speaker 2: Of course, of course listen, of course, like I put
- 31:17Speaker 2: like DMX, DMX's first record, well not his first record,
- 31:21Speaker 2: but his first joint that you know, we put him
- 31:23Speaker 2: out there.
- 31:24Speaker 3: That was on my four three two one song. I
- 31:26Speaker 3: introduced DMX to the world, and you know, and.
- 31:29Speaker 2: When I shot you, I introduced Foxy Brown to the
- 31:33Speaker 2: world and put you know, Damon John in the morning
- 31:36Speaker 2: we started death jam, right and then you know, you
- 31:39Speaker 2: introduced the term goat to the world, and you know,
- 31:42Speaker 2: you you know, like and then we now I'm just
- 31:44Speaker 2: telling you all the different things like and like you know,
- 31:47Speaker 2: like Bill Clinton's inauguration, like I was the first rap
- 31:49Speaker 2: orders that I wrapped up the inaugurations, and you know,
- 31:52Speaker 2: like all of these different things, like all of that
- 31:56Speaker 2: only happens because I've really loved to get into that
- 32:01Speaker 2: notebook and write them rohns. Lebron's life only happens because
- 32:05Speaker 2: he loves bouncing that ball. Yo, you gotta love like
- 32:09Speaker 2: like man, everybody wants to shape pop Champagne in the
- 32:13Speaker 2: locker room. You gotta love it first, you know what
- 32:17Speaker 2: I mean? You got and you gotta define what winning
- 32:23Speaker 2: is for you, what that means to you too, because
- 32:27Speaker 2: you know, like I don't like, I'm not going to
- 32:30Speaker 2: look at my stream and look at this guy's stream,
- 32:32Speaker 2: and if he has, I have to look at Okay,
- 32:34Speaker 2: where am I coming from, you know, and where am
- 32:37Speaker 2: I going? And I have to look at my life.
- 32:39Speaker 2: It's like some in some certain certain sense. You gotta
- 32:42Speaker 2: play against yourself too. You know, you can't get too
- 32:44Speaker 2: caught up in that because you know, as human beings,
- 32:48Speaker 2: we have a tendency to focus on anything that we
- 32:51Speaker 2: think is doing better than us, and that can make
- 32:53Speaker 2: you start sliding, to get you in a negative space.
- 32:56Speaker 2: So you can't do that, and it can make you
- 32:58Speaker 2: think you're not progressing either exactly, and that creates a
- 33:01Speaker 2: feeling which attracts more of that same shit and over again,
- 33:05Speaker 2: so you get stuck.
- 33:06Speaker 3: You feel me, Yeah, all right.
- 33:08Speaker 1: So before we get out of here, we got something
- 33:10Speaker 1: called a pep talk where you look at the camera
- 33:12Speaker 1: and you give them some words of motivation. Okay, and
- 33:15Speaker 1: now we have a time for lkj's pep talk.
- 33:18Speaker 2: I would say the pep talk would be you could
- 33:20Speaker 2: do anything you put your mind to. That's these are facts.
- 33:23Speaker 2: The keto is that you got to be open to
- 33:28Speaker 2: receiving what it is you want to do, and you
- 33:31Speaker 2: really gotta put yourself in a a in a space
- 33:35Speaker 2: of gratitude and and go for it wholeheartedly. And you can't.
- 33:39Speaker 2: And the other thing I would say is that in
- 33:43Speaker 2: order to be a winner, you have to be comfortable
- 33:45Speaker 2: with the idea that you might lose. You know what
- 33:48Speaker 2: I'm saying, like like, you can't win if you're afraid
- 33:52Speaker 2: to lose.
- 33:54Speaker 3: You date so and.
- 33:57Speaker 4: Before you do that, we have something for you.
- 34:03Speaker 3: Man, your abs are gonna be gone in there's some
- 34:05Speaker 3: more cupcakes.
- 34:08Speaker 4: So this is from ninety six point one to be
- 34:09Speaker 4: in Duncan. And we just wanted to give you this.
- 34:13Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, just leave it right there. Oh
- 34:17Speaker 3: you're going over it for me? Oh wow, Oh that's crazy.
- 34:25Speaker 2: And who.
- 34:28Speaker 3: Dunkey FLA's fired, Okay, it was a smart move. He
- 34:36Speaker 3: showed it. The logo all over me, slick ship. I
- 34:42Speaker 3: got something for you. Surprised did you make the donuts?
