- 1:32Speaker 4: I'm Christian. And we are coming to you live via digital.
- 1:34Speaker 6: Recording from the street?
- 1:36Speaker 1: Yeah, corner of.
- 1:57Speaker 7: Bush and sidewalk we are loitering around and decided what
- 2:04Speaker 7: better a place to hang out and talk movies than
- 2:07Speaker 7: out here on the sidewalk many a time on movie
- 2:09Speaker 7: meltdown have we done it in weird and unusual places
- 2:12Speaker 7: i was talking about podcasting by the way and this
- 2:15Speaker 7: is no exception so we've decided to loiter around on
- 2:18Speaker 7: the street until we get run off by the cops
- 2:20Speaker 7: and talk about movies yeah So we're glad to have
- 2:23Speaker 7: Ken with us. You've been on somewhat recently.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Yeah, back for the Horror Hound convention stuff in March, right?
- 2:30Speaker 7: I believe so.
- 2:31Speaker 1: A few months ago.
- 2:33Speaker 7: So you're roped back into it now.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Yeah, this is awesome. Thank you again.
- 2:37Speaker 7: And Christian just can't escape. Much as you may try.
- 2:43Speaker 7: So with that, let's play Geek Activities. What have you seen.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Lately, Ken? Well, let's see. The last one I saw
- 2:53Speaker 1: was the new X-Men. Days of Future Past.
- 2:56Speaker 7: I just went and saw that yesterday.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 3:00Speaker 7: So we can go there.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Are you okay with that? I am.
- 3:03Speaker 7: Have other parties not seen it? Would you like to
- 3:06Speaker 7: go stand over by that tree and go la la la?
- 3:09Speaker 1: Go call that cat.
- 3:10Speaker 7: Yeah, go talk to the cat for a minute.
- 3:12Speaker 1: That cat is too good for the show. Are you
- 3:14Speaker 1: okay if we spoil it?
- 3:15Speaker 3: Yeah, go for it.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:17Speaker 7: I mean, we can do non-spoiler, and then you can
- 3:20Speaker 7: wind her away for a minute while we spoil.
- 3:24Speaker 1: It.
- 3:26Speaker 7: I just don't want to ruin it for her. I mean,
- 3:27Speaker 7: there's not totally a ton. There kind of is, but.
- 3:32Speaker 1: We can talk about other stuff. I saw Hell Up
- 3:34Speaker 1: in Harlem. Have you seen that?
- 3:36Speaker 7: I'm familiar with the trailer.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, sure.
- 3:39Speaker 7: I've been working through a lot more Blaxploitation trailers lately.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Oh, awesome, yeah.
- 3:44Speaker 7: We work many of those in the old music episodes.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Oh, right.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:49Speaker 7: Blaxploitation appreciation.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Those are the greatest. I'm a big fan of Black Caesar,
- 3:54Speaker 1: Fred Williamson, Larry Cohen.
- 3:57Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:57Speaker 1: And then this is the sequel where it just goes
- 4:00Speaker 1: off the rails.
- 4:03Speaker 7: As opposed to most, you know, well.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. No, we thought this one out.
- 4:07Speaker 7: Really?
- 4:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:08Speaker 7: Well-maintenanced blaxploitation films. Really keep a tight operation going.
- 4:13Speaker 1: It does have a really awesome scuba diving, like, attack
- 4:17Speaker 1: from the beach that it's supposed to be. It's supposed
- 4:20Speaker 1: to be Florida, but it looks like Chicago. And it
- 4:23Speaker 1: looks like they are miserable because it's overcast and everybody
- 4:27Speaker 1: looks like they're freezing. And it's just hilarious. But Fred
- 4:32Speaker 1: Williamson is always awesome. And it's got Julius Harris, who
- 4:36Speaker 1: is one of my favorite, like, He just shows up,
- 4:38Speaker 1: you know, a lot of stuff. He's probably best known
- 4:41Speaker 1: as Teehee, the guy with the claw hand in Live
- 4:44Speaker 1: and Let Die. Nice. Yeah. And he plays Fred Williamson's dad.
- 4:50Speaker 1: So he's Caesar's dad, whoever that guy, whatever the name
- 4:53Speaker 1: of that is. But he's pretty awesome. Yeah, it's not
- 4:58Speaker 1: a good movie. You know, I mean, flat out, I'll
- 5:00Speaker 1: tell you, it's not a good movie. But it's fun,
- 5:02Speaker 1: just like most of the genre is fun, you know.
- 5:06Speaker 7: Since you're kind of visiting this town, are you familiar
- 5:08Speaker 7: with Sheba Baby?
- 5:10Speaker 1: I know of it. I've not seen it. Was that
- 5:12Speaker 1: filmed here?
- 5:12Speaker 7: It was filmed here.
- 5:14Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Those are authentic street noises, folks.
- 5:17Speaker 7: That's a truck.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Yeah. He's backing up.
- 5:20Speaker 3: He's either moving or just getting ready for a barbecue
- 5:23Speaker 3: because there's a couch in there and a grill.
- 5:25Speaker 7: Nice. It's not a barbecue without a couch.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:30Speaker 7: But, yeah, this is the home of a couple of those...
- 5:34Speaker 7: William Girdler Classics. That one, I think another one that
- 5:39Speaker 7: sort of falls in, there was like a zebra killer
- 5:41Speaker 7: that was shot here. Yeah, he did several weird, he
- 5:47Speaker 7: did a lot of weird movies here, but yeah, he
- 5:49Speaker 7: did several that fall under the Blaxploitation section of the
- 5:53Speaker 7: video store.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I had no idea, man. Because in Indianapolis, where I'm from,
- 6:01Speaker 1: I don't think we've, well, okay, we've had a few movies,
- 6:03Speaker 1: but nothing like that.
- 6:05Speaker 7: Nothing cool like we did.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I'd rather have a Shiba baby than Hoosiers. That's just me.
- 6:10Speaker 1: They're breaking away for that matter.
- 6:12Speaker 7: Did they even shoot Hoosiers then?
- 6:14Speaker 1: Part of it, yeah. I think. Maybe most of it. Nah,
- 6:20Speaker 1: I don't know. What else have I seen?
- 6:22Speaker 7: Sure.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Let's see. Godzilla.
- 6:25Speaker 7: Which just, I believe I mentioned it last week, but yeah,
- 6:29Speaker 7: we're planning a special episode. So give us about a
- 6:33Speaker 7: week or so and we'll be back with a full
- 6:35Speaker 7: Godzilla discussion. Probably more than you guys want. And it
- 6:39Speaker 7: may or may not have a special guest. Or two.
- 6:41Speaker 7: We'll see who we can rope into it. So we'll
- 6:44Speaker 7: skip Godzilla for now.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Let's see.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Last thing I saw was Spider-Man.
- 6:51Speaker 7: Two?
- 6:51Speaker 3: Two.
- 6:52Speaker 7: Was it amazing?
- 6:53Speaker 3: It was not amazing.
- 6:54Speaker 2: No.
- 6:55Speaker 3: And it made me so glad that I didn't pay
- 6:58Speaker 3: money to see it. And then I kind of snuck
- 7:00Speaker 3: in the theater. But, like, oddly enough, I stayed to
- 7:05Speaker 3: watch the ending. And I thought it was getting ready
- 7:09Speaker 3: to end about three times. And then it kept going.
- 7:13Speaker 3: And then, you know, I really regretted my decision for staying.
- 7:19Speaker 3: But then I was like, well, maybe I'll be able
- 7:20Speaker 3: to get better. And it just never did.
- 7:22Speaker 1: So.
- 7:23Speaker 3: never did.
- 7:23Speaker 7: Yeah where do you place the blame because i have
- 7:28Speaker 7: my theory but i haven't even seen it so.
- 7:30Speaker 3: I mean i don't know i think it was all
- 7:33Speaker 3: just kind of it could have been so much better
- 7:36Speaker 3: but spoiler.
- 7:37Speaker 7: Alert sure throw it out there um.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Emma stone's character i can't remember her name right now
- 7:43Speaker 3: because i just didn't care.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Anymore that would be gwen stacy.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Yeah gwen stacy when she died i didn't care Didn't care.
- 7:49Speaker 1: What?
- 7:49Speaker 3: Didn't care. I was just like, okay, well, that happened.
- 7:52Speaker 7: Whoops. Okay, see, now we're not cool. Because that's the
- 7:56Speaker 7: only part of that whole franchise I could give a
- 7:58Speaker 7: rat's ass about.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Yeah, Emma Stone.
- 7:59Speaker 7: Emma Stone is awesome.
- 8:01Speaker 3: I know. And so then after that, it was just
- 8:04Speaker 3: a shitty movie. It was a shitty movie that just
- 8:06Speaker 3: got shittier.
- 8:08Speaker 7: I'm not thrilled with the whole goings on there. But
- 8:11Speaker 7: the only thing that was good was Emma Stone. Wow.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, you know, I may... receive public ridicule
- 8:18Speaker 3: for this, but I was pretty okay with Tobey Maguire.
- 8:21Speaker 7: I've said that many a time now.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Yeah, Tobey Maguire is a good Spider-Man. This other weirdo,
- 8:29Speaker 3: he can... He can go back to where he came from.
- 8:31Speaker 1: He's kind of... I don't know. I don't know Andrew
- 8:34Speaker 1: Garfield personally. I don't know what he's like.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Well, I mean, the few times that we've hung out...
- 8:37Speaker 3: He kind of comes across as a dick.
- 8:38Speaker 1: And it's like Spider-Man should never be a dick. Extreme.
- 8:41Speaker 7: Well, and that's just in the real world for me.
- 8:43Speaker 7: He seems like a dick.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Yeah, he just.
- 8:45Speaker 7: But he brings that to Peter Parker. And I'm like,
- 8:47Speaker 7: Peter Parker, as a normal guy, as Peter Parker, is pretty, like,
- 8:52Speaker 7: understated and totally, like, stays out of everybody's business. Yeah, he's... Like,
- 8:57Speaker 7: that's the thing. He's just... loiters in the background and
- 9:00Speaker 7: takes photos and then when he becomes Spider-Man he kind
- 9:04Speaker 7: of talks smack and he gets a little more attitude
- 9:06Speaker 7: because he's got superpowers and like you know he can
- 9:09Speaker 7: hide behind the mask so he can say whatever he wants.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Well and correct me if I'm wrong I don't even
- 9:12Speaker 3: remember seeing a camera like around his neck. Maybe one time.
- 9:17Speaker 1: No they've never put that in the movie.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:20Speaker 1: In this batch of films that There's been no Daily
- 9:24Speaker 1: Bugle in there, so there's been no.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I just didn't care for it.
- 9:29Speaker 7: Which maybe they haven't gotten to. They did start a
- 9:32Speaker 7: little earlier, so is he still supposed to end up...
- 9:35Speaker 7: Because now they're bringing in the whole.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Yeah, Sinister Six thing with the.
- 9:40Speaker 7: Yeah, and then he's moving on to the new... Girl,
- 9:43Speaker 7: what's your face?
- 9:44Speaker 1: Mary Jane.
- 9:45Speaker 3: And see, that's the thing, too.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I'll save you, Mary Jane.
- 9:47Speaker 3: You know, I've never been a comic book nerd. And so, like,
- 9:50Speaker 3: you know, just going into these dry, a lot of
- 9:52Speaker 3: times it's like, it should be able to function as
- 9:55Speaker 3: a standalone movie without having, you know, knowing the whole
- 9:58Speaker 3: story behind everything.
- 9:59Speaker 8: It should.
- 10:00Speaker 7: They don't always.
- 10:01Speaker 3: You know, yeah. And I don't feel like this one, well, this,
- 10:05Speaker 3: you know, particular new batch, I don't feel like it did,
- 10:08Speaker 3: you know, because I didn't necessarily know what was going on. Which,
- 10:12Speaker 3: I mean, again, you know, not a comic book nerd, but.
- 10:15Speaker 1: What did you think of the relationship stuff?
- 10:18Speaker 3: Like, as far as what?
- 10:19Speaker 1: Like, just, you know, the way it was shot, the
- 10:21Speaker 1: way it was, you know, the banner between Pete and Gwen,
- 10:26Speaker 1: did you think that was, you know, decent? Because that's
- 10:28Speaker 1: what that guy.
- 10:29Speaker 3: I feel like it was really strange.
- 10:31Speaker 7: Mark Webb did the first. Did he come back and
- 10:32Speaker 7: do the second? I thought he did.
- 10:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:35Speaker 1: That's kind of his wheelhouse.
- 10:36Speaker 7: That's what he wanted to focus on, as I remember
- 10:38Speaker 7: him talking when he first started making that first one,
- 10:41Speaker 7: is he wanted to get into more of the personal
- 10:43Speaker 7: story and, like, not as much superhero stuff, which is,
- 10:45Speaker 7: to me, it seems just like bad version of the
- 10:48Speaker 7: other ones and it focuses just as much on bad
- 10:50Speaker 7: cg swinging around the city but but yeah he was
- 10:53Speaker 7: supposedly going to make it more of a personal story
- 10:56Speaker 7: or well and that's what.
- 10:57Speaker 3: I'm saying because there was never it never tugged on
- 10:59Speaker 3: the heartstrings you know when yeah because it was like
- 11:03Speaker 3: it seemed too forced it wasn't natural you know i
- 11:06Speaker 3: i never saw that natural chemistry with Emma Stone and
- 11:10Speaker 3: Andrew Garfield, you know, there's just, it's just not there
- 11:13Speaker 3: for me.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Which is, it's funny because they're an item, I guess,
- 11:15Speaker 1: in real life.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I know, which is still strange. It makes you wonder,
- 11:18Speaker 3: what is that? It seems strange in real life, you know?
- 11:20Speaker 1: It's true too, yeah.
- 11:22Speaker 7: What does that say about their relationship?
- 11:24Speaker 3: Well, you know.
- 11:27Speaker 7: Emma Stone will come to her senses soon?
- 11:29Speaker 1: Maybe.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Hopefully.
- 11:31Speaker 7: She can get a hold of me if she wants.
- 11:33Speaker 7: Just saying.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Do you have a hotline? Yeah, actually.
- 11:36Speaker 7: Anyway.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, it's a mixed bag if there ever
- 11:42Speaker 1: was one. I mean, they haven't, I really didn't care
- 11:45Speaker 1: for the first one that much. It had its moments,
- 11:49Speaker 1: but it does have like one of the best Stan
- 11:50Speaker 1: Lee cameos. It's in the library thing, but the ending
- 11:53Speaker 1: was so God bless America, that was just ridiculous. And
- 11:58Speaker 1: then the second one, you know, it really comes down
- 12:01Speaker 1: to Jamie Foxx for me. I'm like, who is this?
- 12:04Speaker 1: You know, I'm not that, you know, I know, like,
- 12:07Speaker 1: you know, race was an issue when they did the casting. Like,
- 12:10Speaker 1: how dare you? Elektra's a white guy. You know, it's like, whatever.
- 12:13Speaker 1: You know, I don't mind that at all. But I
- 12:16Speaker 1: just mind the nutty professor way of playing this character
- 12:19Speaker 1: that I'm like, there's no menace, you know? I mean,
- 12:22Speaker 1: even when, you know, he does flip the script and
- 12:24Speaker 1: becomes evil, it's just, it's so hacky.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Well, yeah, and that's what I didn't quite understand. I
- 12:29Speaker 3: was like, wait, what now? Just because, what? Like, I
- 12:33Speaker 3: didn't understand like where all of that was coming from.
- 12:36Speaker 3: It just, it didn't, it didn't seem cohesive to me.
- 12:39Speaker 3: It was just like, all of a sudden he's a
- 12:40Speaker 3: bad guy, you know, and these, these things happen to
- 12:42Speaker 3: him and no, he's a bad guy.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:45Speaker 7: And if we want to get into the race issue,
- 12:47Speaker 7: they were going to have problems. They should have shut
- 12:49Speaker 7: up at the Donald Glover idea. Cause that would have
- 12:52Speaker 7: been great casting. Like it really would have been. And like,
- 12:55Speaker 7: he could have pulled it off where I don't think
- 12:57Speaker 7: Andrew Garfield is like, I think he would have brought
- 12:59Speaker 7: not just something new to it, but like, a real
- 13:02Speaker 7: sense of like humanity that like that really comes through
- 13:05Speaker 7: with Donald Glover stuff. So again, they kind of missed
- 13:08Speaker 7: the boat on that one. Cause now, you know, by
- 13:10Speaker 7: the time they get around to doing a reboot again,
- 13:13Speaker 7: he's going to be too old. So they miss, they
- 13:15Speaker 7: miss their chance to do something really interesting with it.
- 13:17Speaker 1: That's a good point. I like the use of the
- 13:19Speaker 1: word humanity because that's exactly what this movie is missing.
- 13:23Speaker 1: There are moments where you, you know, you know, you're
- 13:25Speaker 1: telegraphed into, you know, Oh, I should feel emotion at
- 13:29Speaker 1: this point, you know, But it's really just going through
- 13:34Speaker 1: the motions, I think. And it's so funny because, you know,
- 13:38Speaker 1: I've seen Cap, the Winter Soldier, Captain America Winter Soldier. Yeah.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I saw it four times in a movie theater.
- 13:44Speaker 7: Because it's awesome.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Because it's awesome.
- 13:46Speaker 7: It's so good.
- 13:47Speaker 3: I don't have anything bad to say about it.
- 13:49Speaker 7: No, no.
- 13:50Speaker 1: I just, I think it's just, you know.
- 13:52Speaker 3: And I think that was part of the problem with
- 13:54Speaker 3: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 because we decided to double feature it.
- 13:58Speaker 3: But we saw Captain America first. And I don't think
- 14:03Speaker 3: Spider-Man 2 would have been so bad had I not
- 14:06Speaker 3: preceded it with Captain America. And then I was just like, well,
- 14:10Speaker 3: this sucks. Whereas I had nothing bad to say about
- 14:14Speaker 3: Captain America. It's like I have nothing good to say
- 14:16Speaker 3: about Spider-Man. And I couldn't help but compare the two
- 14:21Speaker 3: to each other. So it makes me wonder.
- 14:23Speaker 1: It would be nice when they released Cap on Winter
- 14:28Speaker 1: Soldier on Blu-ray that they would package it with a
- 14:30Speaker 1: copy of Three Days of the Condor and Parallax View. So, A,
- 14:35Speaker 1: more people would know about those movies and, like, fall
- 14:38Speaker 1: in love with them like so many of us have.
- 14:40Speaker 1: And B, just because, well, okay, see A, I guess,
- 14:44Speaker 1: because they're just freaking awesome. Right. I, you know, I just,
- 14:47Speaker 1: I really, you know, and that was a guy too,
- 14:49Speaker 1: you know, when they talk about casting, I wasn't a
- 14:51Speaker 1: big fan of the guy playing Cap. I can't think
- 14:54Speaker 1: now what his name is.
- 14:56Speaker 7: Evans.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Evans, yeah.
- 14:57Speaker 7: Chris Evans.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Yeah, Chris Evans. I wasn't a real big fan of
- 15:00Speaker 1: his going in. I honestly wanted Paul Walker, which, you know, truthfully,
- 15:07Speaker 1: you know, the acting.
- 15:09Speaker 7: Now I don't know what to think about that.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:11Speaker 7: But it's one of those, I think I was, like
- 15:14Speaker 7: early on I'd seen, Chris Evans do other stuff and
- 15:17Speaker 7: I liked him in those and then when he started
- 15:20Speaker 7: getting more of the like Fantastic Four kind of roles
- 15:23Speaker 7: when they were putting him in that category it seemed
- 15:26Speaker 7: like a lot of his stuff started to suffer and
- 15:28Speaker 7: it wasn't until right around that time he started kind
- 15:31Speaker 7: of coming back and like that first Captain America like
- 15:34Speaker 7: you can see like he's he's actually a good actor
- 15:37Speaker 7: and they're giving him something good to do so it's
- 15:40Speaker 7: I don't know that that definitely brought him back around
- 15:42Speaker 7: and what I've seen of him in the real world,
- 15:45Speaker 7: like he seems pretty cool.
- 15:46Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 15:47Speaker 7: It seems like he's pretty, you know, well invested in
- 15:49Speaker 7: what this is and what it's trying to say. So
- 15:52Speaker 7: I think, I think it's important too, that like, especially
- 15:55Speaker 7: with that character, cause that's such a weird character to
- 15:58Speaker 7: try to create now. Like it's something that was so
- 16:02Speaker 7: based in like war, war two, literally like when it
- 16:05Speaker 7: was created, like the idea and the ideals of what
- 16:09Speaker 7: captain America is, is like, not the same and can't
- 16:13Speaker 7: be the same so trying to take that character and
- 16:15Speaker 7: jam him into this modern day and this weird way
- 16:20Speaker 7: that we run our government now and the way that
- 16:22Speaker 7: everybody's kind of doing shady underhanded things and that's just
- 16:26Speaker 7: how we operate and it's like having this boy scout
- 16:28Speaker 7: in the middle of that is is really interesting i think.
- 16:31Speaker 1: So it's a nice um you know like you know
- 16:35Speaker 1: great movies you know often be a parallel to events
- 16:38Speaker 1: in reality whether they're a sci-fi film or a film noir,
- 16:42Speaker 1: you know, whatever Westerns, whatever, but you know, it's kind of, it's,
- 16:46Speaker 1: it's really neat that, you know, watching that and, you know, going, okay, yeah,
- 16:50Speaker 1: they're talking about Edward Snowden and, and all that stuff. And,
- 16:53Speaker 1: you know, regardless of where you feel personally about those issues,
- 16:58Speaker 1: you know, it's just, it's a, it's a fun story.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:00Speaker 1: There's explosions and punching and whatever, but there's also a
- 17:03Speaker 1: little bit more in there for wanting to dig deep,
- 17:05Speaker 1: you know?
- 17:06Speaker 7: So it is interesting. And I'm kind of glad they,
- 17:10Speaker 7: Brought that one out when they did, and I don't know.
- 17:12Speaker 7: I wonder where they're going to go. Are they going
- 17:14Speaker 7: to be able to continue that storyline that was sort
- 17:18Speaker 7: of going on as they get into the second Avengers movie?
- 17:20Speaker 7: Because it's going to be another year after that, I think,
- 17:23Speaker 7: before they get back to do another solo or semi-solo.
- 17:27Speaker 7: Because it wasn't really solo in this one either, which, again,
- 17:30Speaker 7: is one of the best parts.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 17:31Speaker 7: Black Widow is awesome. in this again and I'm just
- 17:34Speaker 7: like they I see that coming down the line I'm
- 17:38Speaker 7: like they have to be planning her own movie oh
- 17:41Speaker 7: sure she's again out of these last couple movies like
- 17:44Speaker 7: she's just turned into really amazing performances but she's written
- 17:49Speaker 7: you know the character itself is written to be really
- 17:52Speaker 7: smart and to actually be able to do something with
- 17:56Speaker 7: the story that most characters don't let alone female characters
- 17:59Speaker 7: in action movies at this point so It's really cool
- 18:03Speaker 7: what they're doing with her, and I'm kind of looking
- 18:05Speaker 7: forward to seeing her get more. So, yeah, I don't
- 18:08Speaker 7: know how that's going to come into play in the
- 18:10Speaker 7: second Avengers movie because there's so many people, but he
- 18:13Speaker 7: balanced it pretty good the first time.
- 18:14Speaker 3: It'll be really interesting to see if they come out
- 18:16Speaker 3: with a movie based solely on her butt because there
- 18:21Speaker 3: are even some pretty good butt shots in the Captain
- 18:27Speaker 3: America movie, too. That'd be interesting.
- 18:30Speaker 7: Under the skin.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Black Widow booty. Black Widow booty.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Black Widow's booty.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Booty, booty, booty.
- 18:37Speaker 7: If you haven't, maybe you should check that one out.
- 18:40Speaker 7: Because as big a star as she is, I wasn't
- 18:44Speaker 7: sure she was going to bother going down that road
- 18:46Speaker 7: outside of a random selfie ever once in a while.
- 18:48Speaker 7: I think it's leaked. But, yeah, she does not mess
- 18:52Speaker 7: around on the art house scene.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Oh.
- 18:57Speaker 7: Yeah, I guess I won't go into it too much
- 18:59Speaker 7: because I wrote an entire... Oh, right. He's slobbering over it.
- 19:04Speaker 7: I was told, how did John describe it? It was,
- 19:08Speaker 7: I think he did, I think he may have referred
- 19:10Speaker 7: to it as drooling on it. Which I can't argue.
- 19:13Speaker 7: I was amazed with that movie. And I think it's, again,
- 19:17Speaker 7: it's her turning in these terrific performances for somebody that
- 19:21Speaker 7: most people probably wrote off because she's a hot chick.
- 19:23Speaker 7: But as time's gone on, you're like, no, she's kind
- 19:27Speaker 7: of consistently done really impressive roles and like has gone
- 19:32Speaker 7: out of her way to do these weird indie movies
- 19:34Speaker 7: from the beginning from her being a teenager so oh
- 19:36Speaker 7: that's true she's it's like she's continued to kind of
- 19:40Speaker 7: become a better and better actress and you finally get
- 19:43Speaker 7: her thrown into you know some really smart movies and
- 19:47Speaker 7: this one in particular is just kind of odd and
- 19:49Speaker 7: not every going to take to it I've heard a
- 19:52Speaker 7: few negative responses to it lately but again I think
- 19:54Speaker 7: it's not none of them can be like oh this
- 19:58Speaker 7: movie sucks like everything is just like I've got a
- 20:01Speaker 7: list of reasons I don't like this movie. It's a
- 20:03Speaker 7: polarizing kind of movie. You either are amazed with what
- 20:06Speaker 7: they're trying to do or you're like, this doesn't work
- 20:08Speaker 7: for me and here's why. And you're ready to just
- 20:11Speaker 7: lay it out there. Again, I prefer those movies. If
- 20:16Speaker 7: it's that good that it can upset you that much,
- 20:19Speaker 7: that means it's doing something right. Even if it's not
- 20:21Speaker 7: something that works for you. it's just the director and
- 20:24Speaker 7: the writer, like whoever's is putting that much effort in
- 20:27Speaker 7: to make it worthwhile.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 20:29Speaker 7: If it gets that kind of response out of you.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Yeah. You know, I totally agree with that. It's, it's
- 20:34Speaker 1: really interesting to see those, you know, kind of actors
- 20:37Speaker 1: that do the mainstream stuff and then find ways to,
- 20:41Speaker 1: incorporate some off the wall choices.
- 20:43Speaker 7: You know, and one for them, one for me.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 20:46Speaker 5: Right.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:47Speaker 7: Well, and she's got a ton like the, uh, Lucy,
- 20:50Speaker 7: the new, the new Besson movie. I'm just like, I
- 20:54Speaker 7: don't know where they're going with that. It looks, the
- 20:56Speaker 7: trailer looks interesting.
- 20:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:58Speaker 7: Could be badass. Could be, what the hell is he
- 21:01Speaker 7: doing again? He occasionally turns out stuff that is just
- 21:04Speaker 7: confusing for everyone. So I, I'm definitely interested in it. Absolutely.
- 21:09Speaker 1: I love the concept of taking something like the professional.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Cause I mean, he really, I mean, he strays from
- 21:14Speaker 1: that plot quite a bit, but it is like a,
- 21:18Speaker 1: you know, and an old friend to him, you.
- 21:20Speaker 7: Know, Nikita.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:23Speaker 7: Professional. Yeah.
- 21:24Speaker 1: But then, you know, like, you know, I was saying
- 21:26Speaker 1: to a buddy of mine that it felt like where
- 21:28Speaker 1: that's going just made me think of the end of
- 21:31Speaker 1: the old Corbin flick, the man with the x-ray eyes.
- 21:33Speaker 1: It's like, it's just going so far out, you know?
- 21:35Speaker 1: And you're like, wow, you know, what's an action guy,
- 21:38Speaker 1: a guy known for his action movies going to do
- 21:40Speaker 1: with this? Cause you know, is it going to be
- 21:43Speaker 1: like a matrix thing or is it just going to
- 21:45Speaker 1: be like, you know, some crazy, you know, um, art
- 21:49Speaker 1: house kind of.
- 21:50Speaker 7: The trailer looks like all of the above.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Right.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:54Speaker 1: You know, absolutely.
- 21:55Speaker 7: Which is again, could be, could be interesting.
- 21:59Speaker 1: And also going back to Cap, I really liked Anthony
- 22:01Speaker 1: Mackie to his Falcon.
- 22:03Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 22:03Speaker 7: I just, uh, What else has he been in?
- 22:06Speaker 1: He was in Hurt Locker. That was the big thing.
- 22:09Speaker 7: Because he was really good.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Yeah. Was it an interview? I think it was on
- 22:18Speaker 1: Geek Dad, maybe, or one of these websites. He was
- 22:21Speaker 1: interviewed recently, and they were talking about what it was
- 22:23Speaker 1: like to play the first black superhero. And, you know,
- 22:31Speaker 1: I was like, well, what about Blade? And then, you know,
- 22:33Speaker 1: but they were like, you.
- 22:34Speaker 7: Know, straight up. He's not really a superhero.
- 22:36Speaker 1: He's a vampire.
- 22:37Speaker 7: It's more of a horror franchise gone comic book-y. Yeah.
- 22:41Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Right.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:42Speaker 1: And he was just like, he was thrilled. You know,
- 22:44Speaker 1: it was, it was neat to be like a role model,
- 22:46Speaker 1: you know? And, and, uh, but then he went on
- 22:48Speaker 1: in the interview to talk about going back to, to
- 22:50Speaker 1: women and playing superheroes that, you know, he was like, yeah,
- 22:54Speaker 1: there should be a Wonder Woman movie and it should
- 22:56Speaker 1: be really easy to do. And it should be, Even
- 23:00Speaker 1: if it loses money, it should be done. And it's
- 23:02Speaker 1: just like hearing an action guy or a guy who's
- 23:06Speaker 1: known for these kind of films now coming out and
- 23:09Speaker 1: saying that, I just think it's really important. Because, again,
- 23:12Speaker 1: Marvel's putting a movie out with Bradley Cooper playing a raccoon.
- 23:17Speaker 1: And DC.
- 23:17Speaker 7: And it's going to work.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Yeah, Warner Brothers. Yeah, it's going to work.
- 23:20Speaker 7: I've seen the new trailer, and I'm just like, damn. Like, again,
- 23:25Speaker 7: I'm like, how can they just be nailing it? Especially
- 23:28Speaker 7: something that's that weird a tone that it seems like
- 23:31Speaker 7: usually when Hollywood gets a hold of those kind of properties,
- 23:33Speaker 7: they're just like way off. They just don't get it.
- 23:35Speaker 6: Yeah, right.
- 23:36Speaker 7: But again, you give it to James Gunn. You give
- 23:37Speaker 7: it to somebody who gets the property, and they're putting
- 23:41Speaker 7: together something cool.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 23:43Speaker 7: Assuming it holds true to the trailer. It looks like
- 23:47Speaker 7: it totally understands the type of movie it's making. And
- 23:51Speaker 7: I think that's the problem with some of the DC
- 23:53Speaker 7: stuff is they don't know what to do with it.
- 23:55Speaker 7: Specifically Superman.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. It's directed by committee. They overthink everything because
- 24:02Speaker 1: they're looking at demographics and test audiences and things like that.
- 24:07Speaker 1: And it's like, You know, a Superman movie should be
- 24:10Speaker 1: really simple to do.
- 24:10Speaker 4: It should.
- 24:12Speaker 7: And yet they haven't been able to do one the
- 24:13Speaker 7: last two times out.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Right.
- 24:15Speaker 1: And all the money they spend, you know. And at
- 24:18Speaker 1: least in this one, he punches somebody instead of getting
- 24:20Speaker 1: shivved in the back in a real estate deal. But,
- 24:23Speaker 1: you know, it's just like, come on, Superman. It's not
- 24:25Speaker 1: that hard. And, you know, not that I'm saying I
- 24:28Speaker 1: could do it. I mean, when you're, you know, managing
- 24:31Speaker 1: that much money, you know, you've got to listen to
- 24:33Speaker 1: those guys or they're just going to kick you out
- 24:35Speaker 1: and get somebody they want.
- 24:36Speaker 7: Yeah, I feel like... See, I feel like Zack Snyder
- 24:39Speaker 7: just doesn't get it. He has his own weird... And
- 24:42Speaker 7: I don't think he's untalented. I think he's actually really... Again,
- 24:48Speaker 7: he is an auteur. He has a specific visual style
- 24:51Speaker 7: that he wants to do. He has a very specific
- 24:53Speaker 7: concept of what he goes into each movie with. And
- 24:56Speaker 7: I feel like he's talented in a way, but he
- 25:00Speaker 7: has almost his own weird agenda that comes first. before
- 25:04Speaker 7: the movie itself before the idea and it runs through
- 25:07Speaker 7: like all of his movies even when he's adapting somebody
- 25:10Speaker 7: else's property sometimes it feels like it's more of his
- 25:13Speaker 7: stamp than even the original idea so i don't know
- 25:17Speaker 7: i feel like that got in the way of the
- 25:19Speaker 7: superman movie like he was trying to do so much
- 25:22Speaker 7: of what he wants and what he usually tries to
- 25:24Speaker 7: cram into his movies that like you kind of lose
- 25:28Speaker 7: the whole superman idea and what he is supposed to
- 25:31Speaker 7: represent like he seems like he totally misses the concept
- 25:35Speaker 7: of what Superman as a concept is supposed to be
- 25:38Speaker 7: and has been since they created the comic book. It
- 25:43Speaker 7: was kind of along the same lines as the Captain
- 25:44Speaker 7: America thing. It stands for something and has changed very
- 25:50Speaker 7: little over the amount of time that Superman's been around.
- 25:52Speaker 7: It's like it's still supposed to represent something And he
- 25:56Speaker 7: just made a superhero action movie with it. It's like, you're,
- 25:59Speaker 7: you're missing, you can do that with any other superhero,
- 26:02Speaker 7: just about one of the few that you can't stray
- 26:05Speaker 7: too far one way or the other. Like he has
- 26:08Speaker 7: to stick to some sort of basic setup and some,
- 26:12Speaker 7: you know, rules that, that have been, you know, at
- 26:14Speaker 7: play since they started doing the comic book.
- 26:17Speaker 4: Sure.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:18Speaker 1: And, and, you know, it's, you know, I just, I
- 26:20Speaker 1: don't get it. I mean, you know, it's like you
- 26:22Speaker 1: got all these Christ allegories in it and it's like,
- 26:25Speaker 1: you know, again, I just feel like it should be
- 26:28Speaker 1: like the simplest thing to do. And Warner, you can get,
- 26:31Speaker 1: you know, Warner Brothers getting caught up, you know, all
- 26:34Speaker 1: the drama about casting a woman for, for Wonder Woman,
- 26:38Speaker 1: you know, I can't think of the, the, the actress's name, but, um,
- 26:42Speaker 1: you know, everybody's got their pick. It's just, you know,
- 26:45Speaker 1: come up with something, come up with something cool and, and, uh, basic,
- 26:50Speaker 1: you know, and God help me, another origin story probably.
- 26:53Speaker 7: I'm sure. So, Well, that's one of the, I do
- 26:56Speaker 7: feel like that's a hard one to make work.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:59Speaker 7: Only, and I don't, again, not because it's a woman. Again,
- 27:02Speaker 7: we've seen Black Widow kicking ass. I think it's more
- 27:06Speaker 7: of the weird powers version. Sometimes the powers just don't
- 27:10Speaker 7: transfer to screen. Because I've said that, that's what I
- 27:13Speaker 7: think is the huge problem with Green Lantern. I think
- 27:16Speaker 7: as a comic book, it's cool. Even as an animated,
- 27:18Speaker 7: you know, watch the cartoons and it's cool.
- 27:20Speaker 4: Sure.
- 27:21Speaker 7: Trying to watch that three dimensionally with actual humans doing
- 27:25Speaker 7: that just looks silly. Like it just, you can't make,
- 27:28Speaker 7: and I grew up reading the Green Lantern comics. I
- 27:30Speaker 7: like that character, but I'll be the first to be like,
- 27:33Speaker 7: it just doesn't look cool on screen.
- 27:35Speaker 1: It looks ridiculous.
- 27:37Speaker 7: And then Wonder Woman kind of falls into that sometimes.
- 27:39Speaker 7: Like you look back at how, not that, you know,
- 27:42Speaker 7: she wasn't super awesome on the TV show, but, but
- 27:44Speaker 7: it was pretty silly. It's pretty bad, actually. Yeah, it's
- 27:48Speaker 7: like they didn't take themselves real seriously anyway. And then
- 27:51Speaker 7: on top of that, it's just like, how do you
- 27:54Speaker 7: make an invisible jet not seem laughable? It's like, how
- 27:58Speaker 7: do you.
- 28:00Speaker 7: I don't know. When you get into the better version, again,
- 28:03Speaker 7: the animated ones do a great job later when they
- 28:05Speaker 7: make her more Amazonian and she can fly. She has
- 28:09Speaker 7: all these badass powers, which that might up it a
- 28:12Speaker 7: little bit. But if you go with the bullet reflecting
- 28:15Speaker 7: bracelets and a lasso and an invisible jet it's hard
- 28:18Speaker 7: to make all that cool that all sounds kind of
- 28:20Speaker 7: silly and i don't know again it's that is an
- 28:24Speaker 7: uphill battle if you ask me it's not that it's
- 28:26Speaker 7: a female character it's that she kind of has silly
- 28:29Speaker 7: powers at least in the old version but again if
- 28:32Speaker 7: if you go with the more badass amazon chick like
- 28:35Speaker 7: you know you might be able to pull that.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Off i still think like gina carano and i know
- 28:38Speaker 1: that you know is another divider too but okay, she
- 28:42Speaker 1: may not be the strongest actor in the world, you know,
- 28:44Speaker 1: but I didn't mind, um, Haywire, you know, I thought
- 28:47Speaker 1: it was pretty good, but, um, she, you know, she's
- 28:50Speaker 1: got the physicality down, just give her stuff to hit and,
- 28:53Speaker 1: you know, a decent message, you know, to thread through.
- 28:57Speaker 1: And I just, I don't know, uh, you know, kids,
- 29:02Speaker 1: you know, I don't know if kids even really pay
- 29:05Speaker 1: attention to superhero movies as much as, yeah, you know, but, um, Yeah.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Do they, you know, so I just, you know, it's,
- 29:16Speaker 1: I think for a girl, especially, you know, in, in,
- 29:20Speaker 1: you know, the, you know, this current era that there
- 29:23Speaker 1: ought to be somebody that you can kind of look
- 29:25Speaker 1: up to. And, and when so much of media is,
- 29:28Speaker 1: is interested in just tearing down, you know, or just pigeonholing,
- 29:33Speaker 1: you know, and not to get on a soapbox up
- 29:36Speaker 1: too late, but, you know, I just feel like, you know, that's,
- 29:40Speaker 1: there needs to be some positivity out there. And I
- 29:41Speaker 1: think it's a good character to do that with, you know.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Just like Cap, you know. Just like that. I don't know.
- 29:46Speaker 1: You know, it's just, yeah. I mean, like Cap and,
- 29:48Speaker 1: you know, just, I don't know where I was going
- 29:51Speaker 1: to go with that. But all of a sudden, traffic.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Good times, man. This is... Like Cinema Verite, right? This
- 30:01Speaker 1: is podcasting verite. It's hanging out on the street. Down
- 30:06Speaker 1: on the corner, out in the street. Ron's got a
- 30:09Speaker 1: podcast going.
- 30:11Speaker 7: Nobody's throwing a dime in or a nickel.
- 30:13Speaker 1: But there sure are a bunch of people.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Keep trying.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Keep trying. Keep trying.
- 30:37Speaker 9: Early in the evening, just about supper time.
- 30:41Speaker 3: Over by the courthouse, they're starting to unwind.
- 30:45Speaker 5: Four kids on the corner, trying.
- 30:48Speaker 1: To bring you up.
- 30:50Speaker 9: Willie picks a tune out and he blows it on
- 30:53Speaker 9: the hum.
- 30:54Speaker 4: Down on the corner.
- 31:12Speaker 6: It is our pleasure to welcome you to Skyline. For
- 31:15Speaker 6: the information of those who are attending a drive-in theatre
- 31:17Speaker 6: for the first time, the following hints will make you

- 31:23Speaker 6: you've not already done so... Remove the speaker from its
- 31:26Speaker 6: stand and place it within the car. Secondly, adjust the
- 31:29Speaker 6: volume control to right for loud, left for soft. The
- 31:33Speaker 6: mobile snack bar service, flick down switch on right.
- 31:38Speaker 1: We must issue this warning.
- 31:40Speaker 6: No attempt should be made to disconnect the speaker. To
- 31:45Speaker 6: do so, we'll immediately register on a red light on
- 31:49Speaker 6: our control panel. The Skyline caters for every member of

- 34:05Speaker 8: He was the wizard of a thousand kings And I
- 34:12Speaker 8: chanced to meet him one night.
- 34:14Speaker 7: Warm So as I said, we've been to the Chicago
- 34:20Speaker 7: Wizard World before, so they've got quite a few. They've
- 34:24Speaker 7: got a lot.
- 34:24Speaker 3: They're all over the country.
- 34:26Speaker 7: That's what I was going to say. Since they're inviting
- 34:29Speaker 7: us to hang around here, I thought we would go
- 34:30Speaker 7: ahead and give the rundown. That's the difference with this
- 34:33Speaker 7: one is it's not just in one city. It's something
- 34:36Speaker 7: they've done kind of everywhere now. They've sort of taken over.
- 34:39Speaker 7: So you can go to WizardWorld.com and find out where
- 34:42Speaker 7: they are in the near future. The rundown of the
- 34:45Speaker 7: upcoming ones, end of May into June, is Atlanta. You've
- 34:48Speaker 7: got Philadelphia after that, San Antonio, back to Chicago, Richmond.
- 34:52Speaker 7: So it's like anywhere in this general part of the country,
- 34:56Speaker 7: you know, the United States. Are you stopping at Richmond
- 34:58Speaker 7: because we've got more to go?
- 35:00Speaker 1: Oh, there's plenty.
- 35:00Speaker 7: That's what I'm saying. Nashville, Austin, Ohio. I thought Ohio
- 35:05Speaker 7: was just generalized. You know, that state. But anyway, yes,
- 35:08Speaker 7: you can go to wizardworld.com and find out where the
- 35:10Speaker 7: next show will be near you.
- 35:11Speaker 3: You should definitely go.
- 35:13Speaker 7: Come hang out. That's what we're doing. Definitely check out wizardworld.com

- 36:09Speaker 6: from The Powerpuff Girls. And you're listening to Movie Meltdown. Oh,
- 36:14Speaker 6: I love it so.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Oh, no.
- 36:15Speaker 9: What if I.
- 36:15Speaker 7: Don't get my official Red Raider Carbine Action 200 Shot
- 36:19Speaker 7: Rage Model Air Rifle?
- 36:21Speaker 6: It's part.
- 36:24Speaker 7: Of your problem, you know.
- 36:25Speaker 6: You haven't seen enough movies.
- 36:27Speaker 1: All of life's riddles are answered.
- 36:29Speaker 5: In the movies.
- 36:31Speaker 6: And now, on with the show.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Right here, right now. Right here, right now. Jesus Jones live.
- 36:45Speaker 1: The Yum Yum Theater. Whatever that place is called.
- 36:49Speaker 7: The Chicken Bucket.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Chicken Bucket.
- 36:52Speaker 7: Live at the Chicken Bucket.
- 36:56Speaker 1: Crispy and deep fried.
- 36:58Speaker 7: Whichever you prefer.
- 37:01Speaker 1: You buy the whole bucket and you're only going to
- 37:03Speaker 1: eat the leg. I don't know. I was trying to
- 37:05Speaker 1: go with that. You buy the whole seat and you
- 37:08Speaker 1: only need the edge. surveillance of some you know totally
- 37:16Speaker 1: it's like the three of us were at a stakeout
- 37:18Speaker 1: it's like the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew just teamed
- 37:20Speaker 1: up welcome to Hardy Boy Drewcast Nancy Drewcast I love
- 37:29Speaker 1: Parker Stevenson.
- 37:31Speaker 7: You like Sean Cassidy and that girl.
- 37:36Speaker 1: What was that girl she was in other stuff yeah
- 37:38Speaker 1: what was her name didn't.
- 37:40Speaker 7: She have like Dallas or.
- 37:41Speaker 1: Something something What's y'all on Dallas?
- 37:44Speaker 7: What's y'all on Dallas?
- 37:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:47Speaker 7: Dallas came back.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Yeah. Came back.
- 37:50Speaker 7: Even without JR.
- 37:51Speaker 1: God rest his soul. God rest his... God.
- 37:55Speaker 7: Rest his merry soul.
- 37:56Speaker 1: Hey, a cat. A cat. Up next, we interview a cat. Hey, cat.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Come here. Here, kitty, kitty.
- 38:02Speaker 7: So, what did you think about Godzilla?
- 38:04Speaker 1: Godzilla, kitty. Yeah. And then, you know, again... I don't
- 38:10Speaker 1: know if you saw the Flash trailer for the CW show.
- 38:13Speaker 7: I heard they're making it. I saw, like, a screenshot
- 38:16Speaker 7: of him, I think.
- 38:19Speaker 1: They did, like, a 30-second or a minute mini preview,
- 38:26Speaker 1: mini trailer for it. And then he went back and
- 38:29Speaker 1: did a five-minute trailer. And I'm like, it's as good as, like,
- 38:33Speaker 1: I think the Tobey Maguire Spider-Mans, the one and two.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Because it's got the whole, you know... heroic arc vibe,
- 38:40Speaker 1: you know, like, you know, uh, what is the, uh,
- 38:43Speaker 1: the old, uh, line about responsibility, the, uh, you know,
- 38:47Speaker 1: great power. Yeah. It's got that whole vibe to it.
- 38:50Speaker 7: And that's interesting.
- 38:51Speaker 1: And I'm like, well, maybe, you know, cause Arrow is
- 38:53Speaker 1: doing really well. I don't, I haven't got the chance
- 38:55Speaker 1: to watch it yet.
- 38:56Speaker 7: It's so weird that that of all characters found it's
- 38:59Speaker 7: like found its own, you know, it seems like to
- 39:02Speaker 7: me again, reading the comics, like He always, as cool
- 39:05Speaker 7: as he was, like, his power versus he always hung
- 39:08Speaker 7: out with Green Lantern. I'm like, Green Lantern's damn near,
- 39:11Speaker 7: you know, can do anything within reason, within those little guidelines.
- 39:15Speaker 7: Other than that, he's damn near Superman. But, like, he's
- 39:18Speaker 7: got an arrow. I always thought it was such a
- 39:21Speaker 7: weird counterbalance of, like, hey, I can shoot that thing
- 39:25Speaker 7: over there. So it's funny that that, like, to me
- 39:27Speaker 7: felt like such a light superhero. again and we sometimes
- 39:31Speaker 7: you see like they kind of come through and even
- 39:34Speaker 7: the more human ones even looking at the avengers are
- 39:37Speaker 7: some of the more useful ones sometimes but it was
- 39:39Speaker 7: just interesting that that they paired him up with this
- 39:42Speaker 7: like super super superhero But then at the same time
- 39:46Speaker 7: that he like spins off on his own and now
- 39:48Speaker 7: like on two weird cable shows now, I mean, he
- 39:51Speaker 7: almost took over Smallville by the end of that character anyway.
- 39:55Speaker 7: Like he brought him in and I think that's what
- 39:57Speaker 7: kind of gave them that window to spin it off
- 40:00Speaker 7: into not officially spin it off, but definitely somebody sitting
- 40:03Speaker 7: behind a desk going, Hey, we can take this guy
- 40:04Speaker 7: and make our own show.
- 40:05Speaker 1: There's something interesting.
- 40:06Speaker 7: And they, yeah. So it's funny that that character has
- 40:09Speaker 7: come through in two different, you know, cable TV shows now.
- 40:12Speaker 7: And it's really, kind of found an audience for somebody
- 40:15Speaker 7: that I didn't think had one, you know, even if
- 40:17Speaker 7: you were going to make a big budget movie kind
- 40:19Speaker 7: of thing, I didn't expect the kind of following that
- 40:21Speaker 7: he's sort of developed.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:23Speaker 7: Maybe it just helps that he's cut and he takes
- 40:24Speaker 7: his shirt off a lot.
- 40:26Speaker 1: You know, probably.
- 40:26Speaker 7: Whatever works for him.
- 40:27Speaker 1: Yeah. You know, whatever.
- 40:29Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 40:30Speaker 1: But, uh, yeah, no, I just, I really, you know,
- 40:33Speaker 1: I just, I really feel like they've whatever, you know,
- 40:35Speaker 1: magic they're working on the TV series. They just, they
- 40:38Speaker 1: need to transfer that over to the movies. And it's,
- 40:42Speaker 1: you know, I mean, I'm a Marvel guy, you know,
- 40:45Speaker 1: and I've been that way most of my life. But,
- 40:47Speaker 1: you know, it's not like I want DC to fail.
- 40:49Speaker 1: I just want them to be better.
- 40:51Speaker 7: See, I used to, as far as reading stuff, I
- 40:54Speaker 7: read a lot more DC. And I'm sort of, I mean,
- 40:57Speaker 7: I knew of all the Marvel characters. And I probably, like,
- 41:01Speaker 7: watched more of the animated stuff. But, like, it was
- 41:04Speaker 7: just a handful of comics that I had. But I
- 41:06Speaker 7: had a ton of, like, the Green Lantern stuff and
- 41:09Speaker 7: Green Arrow and, like, Even Batman, I was way more
- 41:12Speaker 7: into as a comic before, you know, getting into all
- 41:16Speaker 7: the Marvel stuff. I think it was mostly the movies
- 41:18Speaker 7: that made me go, oh, this is a lot of
- 41:20Speaker 7: really good characters and a lot of, and then I
- 41:23Speaker 7: think started learning more of the history of like, you know,
- 41:26Speaker 7: just what they were doing with them as, as they were,
- 41:28Speaker 7: you know, in the comic form, how much they were
- 41:31Speaker 7: sort of revolutionizing what was going on in the comic scene.
- 41:34Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 41:34Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:37Speaker 7: So I kind of wish DC would come through. I
- 41:39Speaker 7: kind of wish they would get their act together because
- 41:42Speaker 7: Marvel is just schooling.
- 41:45Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 41:45Speaker 1: And it's funny because DC, like in the 90s, was
- 41:48Speaker 1: all about legacy. And you started seeing junior characters take
- 41:52Speaker 1: over for main characters. Maybe that was in the 80s
- 41:55Speaker 1: a bit, too. But it was definitely a thing. Legacy
- 41:58Speaker 1: was definitely a thing.
- 41:59Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 42:00Speaker 1: And it's like Marvel is starting to do that now.
- 42:02Speaker 1: In the Cap movie, they reference S.H.I.E.L.D. Starting out of
- 42:05Speaker 1: the 50s after Cap is gone, is lost. And then
- 42:11Speaker 1: you've got supposedly the new Ant-Man movie, although that's kind
- 42:15Speaker 1: of up in the air now too.
- 42:16Speaker 7: Yeah, I was going to ask you what your thoughts
- 42:18Speaker 7: on that were.
- 42:19Speaker 1: I don't understand. If you want to go that route,
- 42:24Speaker 1: I don't understand. I don't know the details yet, I guess.
- 42:27Speaker 7: Yeah, I haven't heard much about it. I just heard he...
- 42:31Speaker 7: like so much that I read before that is like
- 42:33Speaker 7: how much he was so into that idea, wanted to
- 42:37Speaker 7: do this movie was again, he doesn't phone anything in.
- 42:41Speaker 7: He doesn't know how to make a movie half ass.
- 42:43Speaker 7: Even if you don't like them, they're visually amazing. And
- 42:46Speaker 7: he has such style. And on top of that, he
- 42:49Speaker 7: weaves in these stories that are so above and beyond
- 42:53Speaker 7: what you would expect out of the property that you're getting.
- 42:55Speaker 7: He usually takes a very silly like genre and, And
- 42:58Speaker 7: then turns it into something a lot smarter than you'd expect.
- 43:01Speaker 7: So it would be, yeah, it would be really interesting
- 43:03Speaker 7: to see him do that with something as well established
- 43:06Speaker 7: as like a comic book character.
- 43:07Speaker 1: Right.
- 43:08Speaker 7: But yeah. So for him to walk away, they really
- 43:11Speaker 7: must've been screwing him over.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:13Speaker 7: Or tying his hand so he couldn't do it.
- 43:15Speaker 1: That's what I was thinking was, yeah, probably tying his
- 43:17Speaker 1: hand in some way, but it's a shame. I just,
- 43:21Speaker 1: you know, going that route, then I'll rethink what I
- 43:23Speaker 1: was going to say. But, I was going to say,
- 43:25Speaker 1: you've got these guys like Robert Rodriguez and Guillermo del Toro,
- 43:30Speaker 1: and there's others. Those are two of my favorites, and
- 43:33Speaker 1: they're easy to come up with off the top of
- 43:35Speaker 1: my head. But directors that are like, oh yeah, I
- 43:37Speaker 1: want to do this, and I want to do that.
- 43:39Speaker 1: And then you hear rumors about stuff, and then nothing
- 43:42Speaker 1: ever happens. And it's like, okay, maybe don't tell us.
- 43:46Speaker 1: Maybe just, you know, in the mountains of madness, maybe
- 43:50Speaker 1: just don't ever say a word. Because in my mind,
- 43:53Speaker 1: I'm seeing... What could have been, you know, and I'm
- 43:56Speaker 1: watching Prometheus.
- 43:58Speaker 7: Well, somewhere down the line, maybe they'll do a Dune
- 44:01Speaker 7: movie for that. Yeah.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh.
- 44:04Speaker 7: What could have happened if he could have gotten to
- 44:07Speaker 7: make Mountains of Madness?
- 44:08Speaker 1: Yeah, in the Mountains of Madness. Yeah, and that's another
- 44:10Speaker 1: one I've seen. I kind of wanted to bring Christian in, too,
- 44:13Speaker 1: because I don't want you to be bored. It's not
- 44:14Speaker 1: supposed to be all guy talk, but yeah, you're all right.
- 44:19Speaker 7: Okay.
- 44:19Speaker 2: Okay.
- 44:21Speaker 1: But yeah, I saw Jodorowsky's Dune recently, and that should
- 44:28Speaker 1: probably be coming on to VOD or iTunes.
- 44:30Speaker 6: Soon, right?
- 44:30Speaker 7: I mean, it's not much of a window these days.
- 44:33Speaker 7: It's like you get some sort of really small theatrical
- 44:36Speaker 7: run in like two weeks, three weeks later, or sometimes before.
- 44:40Speaker 7: I mean, a lot of them now, that's the strategy.
- 44:43Speaker 7: That's the rollout is like, it will hit VOD first
- 44:46Speaker 7: and then maybe start making a limited, you know, city
- 44:49Speaker 7: to city run in some of the bigger cities, which
- 44:52Speaker 7: seems like an odd choice, but I think for some
- 44:55Speaker 7: of them, it works like for sometimes the word of
- 44:56Speaker 7: mouth works the opposite way. Like people watched it on
- 44:59Speaker 7: VOD and then tell them like, Oh, I think it's
- 45:01Speaker 7: coming here this weekend. So it's an odd way to
- 45:04Speaker 7: go about it, but I guess, you know, if it's,
- 45:06Speaker 7: if it's the new way, if it's the new way
- 45:08Speaker 7: things are going to work, it'll be interesting. But, Yeah,
- 45:11Speaker 7: I'm sure it should be coming up pretty soon for everybody.
- 45:13Speaker 1: I would highly recommend it. I mean, in case you
- 45:17Speaker 1: don't know the story, Alejandro Jodworski, the guy that did
- 45:23Speaker 1: El Topo and Holy Mountain and Santa Sangre and a
- 45:29Speaker 1: bunch of other arthouse movies.
- 45:31Speaker 7: Tusk.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Tusk? Was that one of his?
- 45:34Speaker 7: That's the one. Is that it? I think it is, though.
- 45:37Speaker 3: Really?
- 45:37Speaker 7: There was a weird one that was, like, almost supposed
- 45:40Speaker 7: to be his kid's movie.
- 45:42Speaker 5: Oh, really?
- 45:42Speaker 7: Like, it's the most dialed-back, semi-normal one of the bunch
- 45:46Speaker 7: from what I've heard. I watched the trailer when we
- 45:49Speaker 7: did Santa Sangre, and, like, again, it looks slightly weird,
- 45:53Speaker 7: but it looks way toned down for him, which I
- 45:56Speaker 7: don't know what to think of with that. Yeah.
- 45:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:58Speaker 1: Huh.
- 45:59Speaker 7: Very strange.
- 46:00Speaker 1: But, yeah, this is just the, it's about his, you know,
- 46:03Speaker 1: it's a what-if story, and it's He is in contact
- 46:08Speaker 1: with some producers that want to do a film based
- 46:12Speaker 1: on the Frank Herbert novel, Dune. Eventually, it gets made
- 46:16Speaker 1: by David Lynch and Dino De Laurentiis.
- 46:18Speaker 7: Yeah, this was years before.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Years before. This is early 70s before Star Wars. And
- 46:23Speaker 1: it's all about his, in many ways, batshit crazy design concepts.
- 46:30Speaker 1: He brings in H.R.
- 46:30Speaker 7: Giger.
- 46:31Speaker 1: He brings in Salvador Dali. Which is all amazing. Yeah,
- 46:36Speaker 1: he gets Mick Jagger. He's got all this crazy awesome stuff.
- 46:41Speaker 1: And it's like he builds this whole concept with everybody interested. Uh-oh,
- 46:46Speaker 1: we got a chopper.
- 46:50Speaker 7: We've been spotted.
- 46:54Speaker 1: It's going to turn into an Ice Cube video if
- 46:56Speaker 1: we're not careful.
- 46:58Speaker 7: There's some weirdos down on the street. Get the spotlight.
- 47:03Speaker 1: The, uh, um, yeah, but, uh, yeah, it's just, it's, um,
- 47:08Speaker 1: you know, about what could have been. And it's, he
- 47:10Speaker 1: gets all these people together, he's got producers and stuff,
- 47:12Speaker 1: and then he just couldn't find a distributor. He couldn't
- 47:15Speaker 1: find anybody to give him the money that he needed
- 47:17Speaker 1: to come up with this.
- 47:18Speaker 7: I think he ran into that a lot, if I remember.
- 47:20Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 47:20Speaker 7: I mean, trying to make the stuff that he made
- 47:22Speaker 7: is damn near impossible anyway, so.
- 47:25Speaker 1: That's just it. One of the interesting things, though, out
- 47:29Speaker 1: of it, too, is, um, what kind of spirals out
- 47:32Speaker 1: of his defeat becomes pretty much science fiction and fantasy films,
- 47:37Speaker 1: you know, from that point on. Yeah, exactly. Star Wars
- 47:41Speaker 1: owes a debt, you know, Matrix films owe a debt. Um,
- 47:45Speaker 1: everything that's, you know, gone after is, is, uh, owed
- 47:49Speaker 1: to the alien, you know, things like that. But, uh,
- 47:51Speaker 1: it's definitely, I would highly recommend it. It's really interesting.
- 47:54Speaker 1: You know, some interesting visuals, a great soundtrack, you know,
- 47:57Speaker 1: for a documentary. It's, it's really great.
- 48:00Speaker 2: And, um, Yeah.
- 48:01Speaker 1: It's just, it's a, if you like, if you're at
- 48:04Speaker 1: all creative, like, you know, if you have a creative interest,
- 48:06Speaker 1: if you're a writer or an artist or something, you're
- 48:09Speaker 1: going to see something here that's inspiring, you know, which
- 48:11Speaker 1: is really neat. So, especially in this day of prefab
- 48:15Speaker 1: concepts and, and, uh, you know, the grindhouse in the wrong,
- 48:20Speaker 1: I'm not talking about the seventies and sixties stuff, but
- 48:23Speaker 1: like just the reboot of what it's become. Um, it's
- 48:28Speaker 1: a good, it's a good, um, flag waiver for creativity
- 48:34Speaker 1: and for artistic expression.
- 48:36Speaker 7: So anyway, uh, on that weird artistic expression note, uh, I, I,
- 48:44Speaker 7: I just wanted to say something on the Giger thing.
- 48:46Speaker 7: Cause I, I'm sure we'll have to come back in art,
- 48:49Speaker 7: you know, tribute once we go through everybody of the
- 48:52Speaker 7: past year, but I don't know. That was just such
- 48:54Speaker 7: a huge thing for me. I, I, he was probably
- 48:58Speaker 7: one of the most influential people as far as just art. Like,
- 49:03Speaker 7: I think that was one of those as a kid
- 49:05Speaker 7: that that's one of the reasons I latched on to art.
- 49:08Speaker 7: Oddly enough, Dolly was another one, but like those weird, surreal, creepy,
- 49:13Speaker 7: perverted images. Like, I just remember seeing those and like,
- 49:18Speaker 7: they just clamped onto me. my brain. And like, that's
- 49:22Speaker 7: one of the many reasons I'm as weird as I
- 49:24Speaker 7: am now, but it's like, so I don't know. It
- 49:26Speaker 7: was one of those, it is kind of sad. Like
- 49:28Speaker 7: I know he, he, you know, he rarely came to
- 49:30Speaker 7: the U S these days and, It's just one of
- 49:32Speaker 7: those you kind of would have hoped to run into
- 49:35Speaker 7: at one of the shows or something.
- 49:36Speaker 6: Right.
- 49:37Speaker 7: That would have been their big one. Because I know
- 49:38Speaker 7: we talked to somebody who actually did an interview with him. Oh, wow.
- 49:42Speaker 7: I think it was a phone version. But still, the
- 49:45Speaker 7: fact that they got to talk to him. I don't know.
- 49:48Speaker 7: I thought that was one of those. It would be
- 49:49Speaker 7: cool if at some point he came here for some
- 49:51Speaker 7: sort of event. So that was sort of sad that
- 49:54Speaker 7: now he's gone. And that we're... kind of going to
- 49:58Speaker 7: be deprived of more of his artwork because he continued
- 50:01Speaker 7: to work you know he has all these pieces he's
- 50:03Speaker 7: well known for from you know a lot of them
- 50:06Speaker 7: from the late 60s and early 70s but like he
- 50:09Speaker 7: continued to work and keep making weird creepy stuff you
- 50:12Speaker 7: know all the way up till the.
- 50:13Speaker 1: End absolutely and just you know the sad tragic nature
- 50:17Speaker 1: of his death too just falling down a.
- 50:20Speaker 7: Staircase simple as that you know we're.
- 50:23Speaker 1: Witnesses right now folks to an attempted parallel parking job
- 50:28Speaker 1: This should be interesting background noise.
- 50:29Speaker 3: It was a team effort, and actually they were pretty successful.
- 50:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I think they might have it. Judges, what do
- 50:36Speaker 1: you say?
- 50:36Speaker 3: Probably an 8.5.
- 50:40Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 50:42Speaker 1: I'd go with a yeah.
- 50:44Speaker 7: As long as they don't hit my car.
- 50:45Speaker 1: Yeah. I think you're, well, yeah, you're okay.
- 50:48Speaker 7: All right.
- 50:49Speaker 1: That's cool.
- 50:52Speaker 7: Yeah, also just his impact on film. Like, very few
- 50:56Speaker 7: artists have had the impact on film that he did.
- 51:00Speaker 7: You know, he came in with such an original design
- 51:02Speaker 7: and changed not just that film series, but I think
- 51:06Speaker 7: every other... You know, I mean, nobody had ever conceived
- 51:09Speaker 7: of an alien that looked... anything other than like a
- 51:12Speaker 7: bug eyed monster or a green guy or, you know
- 51:15Speaker 7: what I mean? It's like everything was sort of normal
- 51:19Speaker 7: in its own weird way as normal as, you know,
- 51:21Speaker 7: extraterrestrials can be. But like, I don't think we would
- 51:24Speaker 7: have some of the weird aliens that came after it
- 51:27Speaker 7: until you had, you know, Giger's version of the alien. And,
- 51:30Speaker 7: And continued with, you know, Species is a much lesser film,
- 51:33Speaker 7: but that creature design is awesome.
- 51:35Speaker 1: Oh, sure.
- 51:36Speaker 7: It's like you see him come back in and keep
- 51:38Speaker 7: working even, I think they even did, didn't he do
- 51:41Speaker 7: consultant work on Prometheus?
- 51:43Speaker 1: Yes.
- 51:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 51:44Speaker 7: So, I mean, they kept bringing him back, you know,
- 51:46Speaker 7: sort of unofficially part of that series. Officially, unofficially, depending
- 51:50Speaker 7: on who you talk to, including viewers. But yeah, I
- 51:55Speaker 7: don't know. I just, yeah. I just wanted to mention that.
- 51:59Speaker 7: That was just sort of a big thing. It was
- 52:00Speaker 7: kind of sad.
- 52:01Speaker 1: Very much so. Yeah. Cause yeah, I mean, you know,
- 52:05Speaker 1: an alien with diamond teeth and shoots acid, you know,
- 52:08Speaker 1: it's messed up. Yeah.
- 52:10Speaker 7: And I think that's the thing. I wonder how much
- 52:11Speaker 7: of a change on that film it had alone. I mean,
- 52:15Speaker 7: just how much, how like, up in the air Ridley
- 52:18Speaker 7: Scott probably was about this creature until like you had
- 52:22Speaker 7: the full on Giger design for it and how much
- 52:25Speaker 7: that had to change the way that he shot everything
- 52:27Speaker 7: from that point on. And so, I don't know, it
- 52:30Speaker 7: had so much impact on that series, obviously, but I
- 52:33Speaker 7: think just in on film in general.
- 52:35Speaker 1: Yeah. It could have easily been parasite, you know, one
- 52:39Speaker 1: of those alien knockoffs, you know, because, you know, without,
- 52:42Speaker 1: you know, it's Giger show it's, you know, it's just
- 52:44Speaker 1: the old, you know, this old, I was gonna say
- 52:46Speaker 1: this old dark house, Like it's a PBS haunted house story.
- 52:51Speaker 1: But yeah, the old dark house, it could just be that. Oh,
- 52:54Speaker 1: and they gave up.
- 52:57Speaker 7: Parking's hard.
- 52:58Speaker 1: Parking is so hard.
- 53:01Speaker 7: This is why you just get fancy new vehicles that
- 53:03Speaker 7: do it for you. That's what I'm hoping because I
- 53:06Speaker 7: don't like to park either.
- 53:08Speaker 1: And it's not like the other side of the street
- 53:10Speaker 1: didn't have tons of parking.
- 53:12Speaker 7: Seriously.
- 53:13Speaker 3: It's not like the car in front of them didn't
- 53:15Speaker 3: have a whole space.
- 53:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 53:18Speaker 7: They just like the challenge.
- 53:20Speaker 1: I guess. That's what they do. It's a roving pack
- 53:22Speaker 1: of female party goers who just willy-nilly travel to Parallel Park.
- 53:29Speaker 7: Let's go out in Parallel Park!
- 53:33Speaker 3: It's a three-day weekend. I've been waiting for this for
- 53:35Speaker 3: a long time.
- 53:36Speaker 1: I'm so sober. No, guys.
- 53:38Speaker 7: No, guys. We're just going out. We're going to get
- 53:42Speaker 7: drunk in Parallel Park.
- 53:44Speaker 1: Woo-hoo! I just want to dance. In Parallel Park.
- 53:49Speaker 7: In Parallel Park.
- 53:54Speaker 1: Yeah, this is a great place. You should make this
- 53:57Speaker 1: an ongoing thing.
- 53:58Speaker 7: Can we? Can we really?
- 54:02Speaker 1: Movie Meltdown, man on the street. I can't wait until
- 54:06Speaker 1: the episode where you start asking homeless guys and stuff like,
- 54:08Speaker 1: what have you seen lately?
- 54:09Speaker 7: I considered that this weekend.
- 54:11Speaker 1: I've seen my own brain. No, I don't know.
- 54:15Speaker 7: Instead of homeless people, just random Beatle fans.
- 54:17Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 54:18Speaker 7: I really didn't want to talk to random Beatle fans.
- 54:22Speaker 1: I was at This was years ago. I was at
- 54:24Speaker 1: a comic book convention in Chicago. And it happened to be...
- 54:28Speaker 1: The convention was in a convention center. It was in
- 54:30Speaker 1: the Rosemont Convention Center there. Rosemont, Illinois. But next door...
- 54:36Speaker 1: It was the hotel that I was staying at, and
- 54:37Speaker 1: they had a Beatles convention going on there. And, you know,
- 54:41Speaker 1: I mean, I like the Beatles. You know, not too
- 54:43Speaker 1: many people hate the Beatles.
- 54:44Speaker 6: I think.
- 54:45Speaker 7: There are a few, but.
- 54:46Speaker 1: Probably, yeah.
- 54:47Speaker 7: But they're pretty well received. Yeah, right. I would say,
- 54:51Speaker 7: most people, you know.
- 54:52Speaker 1: Spoiler, people like them.
- 54:53Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 54:54Speaker 7: A lot of people.
- 54:55Speaker 1: At that thing, there were so many people all trying
- 54:58Speaker 1: to sing Beatles songs with acoustic guitars. I felt like
- 55:01Speaker 1: Bluto in Animal House, just walking downstairs. I'm like... smashing
- 55:05Speaker 1: guitars left and right like you're welcome seriously go do
- 55:08Speaker 1: something better with your life says the comic book and
- 55:11Speaker 1: movie guy who loves nothing more than.
- 55:13Speaker 7: Just talk comics and movies with friends and we'll sit
- 55:15Speaker 7: outside next to a plant and talk exactly comic books
- 55:19Speaker 7: and movies that's it that's how we roll.
- 55:23Speaker 1: For life oh man yeah it's yeah it's good to
- 55:28Speaker 1: be passionate about things I you know I don't know
- 55:31Speaker 1: I think a lot about like fandom you know and
- 55:33Speaker 1: it's you go to these conventions and, you know, you
- 55:36Speaker 1: see these people and we're all in black t-shirts.
- 55:38Speaker 7: Hey, that's why I wear gray. I'm different.
- 55:43Speaker 1: You are. It's perfect. You know, it's, it's, it's, it's,
- 55:48Speaker 1: you know, we're in our tribe, right? You know, it's, it's,
- 55:52Speaker 1: you know, we go to those things and even if,
- 55:53Speaker 1: you know, everybody around you is a sweat elemental that just,
- 55:56Speaker 1: you know, hasn't been out of their parents' basement in decades.
- 55:59Speaker 1: It's still your tribe, you know? It's still fun on
- 56:03Speaker 1: some level. Even to bitch about it is still fun.
- 56:05Speaker 1: I mean, we've been doing that earlier. You missed that episode.
- 56:08Speaker 7: That was its own episode.
- 56:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:10Speaker 7: Nobody wants to hear that.
- 56:11Speaker 1: Nobody wants to hear a bunch of people bitching. I
- 56:15Speaker 1: don't know where I was going with that other than,
- 56:17Speaker 1: you know, it's fascinating when you see people that are
- 56:19Speaker 1: fans of things that you're not a fan of. You know,
- 56:22Speaker 1: like whether it's sports or, you know.
- 56:25Speaker 7: I've said that for years, though. I was like, everybody's
- 56:27Speaker 7: a geek. You just pick your thing. You're a geek.
- 56:31Speaker 7: If you can name, you know, rattle off stats about baseball,
- 56:33Speaker 7: you're a sports geek. Just face it. Like, it's cool.
- 56:36Speaker 7: It's fine. Enjoy your sports. I'm just saying, like, it's
- 56:40Speaker 7: the same thing. It's the same thing as me naming
- 56:42Speaker 7: off creatures in the cantina. It's like it's the same
- 56:46Speaker 7: geek gene in everybody. It's just you pick, you know.
- 56:50Speaker 7: Do you like the Westminster dog show? That's your thing, man.
- 56:54Speaker 7: You're a dog geek. It's cool. Have fun with it.
- 56:57Speaker 1: That's one of my favorite moments, I guess, so far
- 57:00Speaker 1: in this life is that I live in Indianapolis and
- 57:04Speaker 1: I go to Gen Con usually every year. And there
- 57:07Speaker 1: was one year where down near the convention center in Indy,
- 57:10Speaker 1: there's a Steak and Shake right beside the mall downtown.
- 57:16Speaker 1: And it happened to be on a weekend where the Colts,
- 57:18Speaker 1: Indianapolis Colts, had a preseason game with the Chicago Bears.
- 57:22Speaker 1: So that covers most of Indiana.
- 57:24Speaker 7: Yeah, pretty much.
- 57:24Speaker 1: You know, northern Indiana.
- 57:25Speaker 7: That whole part of the country.
- 57:27Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. So, excuse me. So I'm standing there in
- 57:31Speaker 1: the corner waiting for a friend to come by and
- 57:33Speaker 1: we're going to go to dinner. And I'm standing there
- 57:35Speaker 1: looking and I'm seeing all these guys in Zubas sweatshirts with,
- 57:40Speaker 1: you know, helmets on them and guys wearing helmets and
- 57:43Speaker 1: face paint. and et cetera, all walking down to the
- 57:47Speaker 1: convention center one way. And I'm seeing a bunch of elves, stormtroopers, superheroes, fairies,
- 57:56Speaker 1: you know, furries, you know, all walking towards the convention center.
- 58:02Speaker 1: And it's like this melting pot. And it was like
- 58:04Speaker 1: this weird, like, I don't know, like a vanilla sky
- 58:06Speaker 1: kind of moment where I'm just like standing in the
- 58:08Speaker 1: middle of the street, like going, wow, we are all
- 58:11Speaker 1: the same.
- 58:12Speaker 7: It'd be cool if as they passed each other, they high-fived.
- 58:15Speaker 7: Like it's a little league game.
- 58:17Speaker 1: Instead of giving the fish eye.
- 58:18Speaker 7: Hey guys, it's cool.
- 58:19Speaker 1: It's cool.
- 58:19Speaker 6: Hey, yeah.
- 58:20Speaker 7: Your thing's cool. My thing's cool. It's all right.
- 58:22Speaker 1: We're cool.
- 58:22Speaker 7: It's all right.
- 58:23Speaker 1: And that one rare dwarf that has a football helmet
- 58:25Speaker 1: on and be like, yeah, man, you know, I cover
- 58:27Speaker 1: all the bases.
- 58:28Speaker 7: I'm into both.
- 58:28Speaker 1: It's cool. Yeah, you know.
- 58:29Speaker 7: You can straddle the line.
- 58:32Speaker 1: I just, you know, that's what I love. I just
- 58:33Speaker 1: love it when people are passionate about stuff, you know,
- 58:36Speaker 1: because so much of this world is so boring and
- 58:39Speaker 1: prefab and, set up to consume and forget, you know,
- 58:43Speaker 1: that it's neat when people are excited about anything, you know.
- 58:48Speaker 7: It used to be a rare few. I think we've
- 58:52Speaker 7: expanded it in these last few generations.
- 58:55Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 58:55Speaker 7: It's a pretty wide group of people now. But I
- 58:58Speaker 7: still feel like there's people that are very genuine. It's
- 59:01Speaker 7: very ingrained in who you are. And there are other
- 59:04Speaker 7: people that just sort of go along with things that
- 59:06Speaker 7: become popular. But there's nothing wrong with that.
- 59:09Speaker 2: Sure.
- 59:10Speaker 7: Cheesy pop stuff. But there is a different level, I think,
- 59:13Speaker 7: for people that are super hardcore.
- 59:16Speaker 1: Right.
- 59:17Speaker 7: I may or may not resemble that remark.
- 59:18Speaker 1: Yeah, no doubt. Sitting on a side street talking about
- 59:24Speaker 1: movies at midnight, one o'clock, whatever.
- 59:27Speaker 7: Because we're cool like that.
- 59:29Speaker 1: Yeah, that's how we roll.
- 59:30Speaker 7: Is there anything else we wanted to cover?
- 59:33Speaker 1: You want to cover anything with silent? You have like
- 59:36Speaker 1: some kind of words of encouragement to fandom?
- 59:40Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 59:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 59:44Speaker 7: Life plan.
- 59:45Speaker 1: Do you have a song that you sing when you're
- 59:47Speaker 1: down that is somewhat nerd-related?
- 59:49Speaker 7: Yeah, just start busting it out here in the middle
- 59:51Speaker 7: of the street in the middle of the night.
- 59:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 59:53Speaker 1: This is, I mean, seriously, this is like West Side
- 59:54Speaker 1: Story right here. Right here. This is Annie. This is,
- 59:59Speaker 1: you know.
- 1:00:00Speaker 7: I don't know about you, but I feel pretty. And witty.
- 1:00:05Speaker 7: And kind of dorky, actually. But whatever.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: That's a pretty standard operating.
- 1:00:11Speaker 7: Oh, my God, it's a possum.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: Oh, seriously?
- 1:00:14Speaker 7: There's nothing more adorable than possums. Hey, possum, so what
- 1:00:21Speaker 7: did you think about the new X-Men movie? What about
- 1:00:27Speaker 7: that new possum superhero they added to the X-Men? That
- 1:00:29Speaker 7: was crazy, right?
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: Looks like an R.O.J.S.
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: Hey, fellas, I just want to be on the show.
- 1:00:36Speaker 7: So, possum, I like where this character's going.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: Are you a big Kurosawa fan?
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: I am.
- 1:00:45Speaker 7: Where do you watch these possums?
- 1:00:49Speaker 8: Usually, I.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: Got Netflix. It's not on Netflix. I don't know what
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: I'm doing. Seriously, it's late. I'm being stupid. I just
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: like the idea of a movie going possum. Because they're
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: up at night.
- 1:01:02Speaker 7: I just figure he peeks in the windows. That house
- 1:01:05Speaker 7: around the corner.
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: He hangs in the tree by his tail and looks
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: in the window and just watches movies.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: What are you doing, guys?
- 1:01:12Speaker 7: There's a house around the corner that every time I
- 1:01:14Speaker 7: pass by, they have the whole front window. They have
- 1:01:16Speaker 7: a huge picture window. It's always completely open. No curtains.
- 1:01:20Speaker 7: The front door is also standing open. It's just like
- 1:01:22Speaker 7: an open glass screen door. Open windows. And no matter
- 1:01:27Speaker 7: what time of night, they've got the TV on, which
- 1:01:29Speaker 7: I'm like, I like these guys. That's usually what I'm doing.
- 1:01:31Speaker 7: I'm probably asleep in front of it, but I like
- 1:01:33Speaker 7: that they've constantly got the TV running. I appreciate that.
- 1:01:37Speaker 7: So I only assume that possum runs over there and
- 1:01:39Speaker 7: peeks in their window, and he's just like.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: What you guys watching?
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: Hey, are you watching Ikaru? I like Salesman. This is
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: a good movie. I know his samurai films are way
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: more popular, but I prefer... His human interest stories.
- 1:01:59Speaker 7: That's been the Possum Minute. A new running feature. Possum
- 1:02:04Speaker 7: on the street take on modern cinema. Possum Minute.
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: Wait till you hear my opinions on Godard.
- 1:02:16Speaker 7: This is going to have to be a running thing. Uh-oh.
- 1:02:22Speaker 7: You've roped yourself into a running feature now.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: I welcome the opportunity to speak my mind about any
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: and all things cinematic.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: Seriously, I don't know.
- 1:02:43Speaker 7: Well, with that, the house across from us here is...
- 1:02:48Speaker 7: They've been wandering around in this way. Again, their blinds
- 1:02:51Speaker 7: are open. People at home, if I were you, I'd
- 1:02:54Speaker 7: close your blinds and windows and drapes because some creepy
- 1:02:57Speaker 7: podcasters probably across the street from you. I'm just saying.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: I think I saw Raymond Burr over there hiding a body.
- 1:03:05Speaker 7: But more importantly, they were wandering around in the kitchen
- 1:03:08Speaker 7: over here, but now they've retired to this room over
- 1:03:11Speaker 7: here and the lights are turned out. So I think
- 1:03:13Speaker 7: it's pretty late. They've wrapped it up. I guess we
- 1:03:16Speaker 7: should wrap it up too.
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: Thank you very much for the opportunity, Brian. This has
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: been great.
- 1:03:22Speaker 7: I was glad to work you in this week. I
- 1:03:24Speaker 7: think Christian's already gone to sleep until she got creeped
- 1:03:27Speaker 7: out by the possum.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: I'll protect you.
- 1:03:33Speaker 7: But you are the possum.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Dun, dun, dun.
