- 0:28Speaker 2: prepares for Arizona State in the Peach Bowl. Coming to
- 0:32Speaker 2: ask you Wednesday, kickoff at noon. Our coverage begins at
- 0:35Speaker 2: nine am. But here's more from Quinn Yours at the
- 0:37Speaker 2: media availability.
- 0:39Speaker 3: What when I think a bond is healthy and and
- 0:42Speaker 3: ready to go, well, what kind of impact does he
- 0:46Speaker 3: have on the offense?
- 0:47Speaker 1: And how much does he change? How dynamic you guys
- 0:50Speaker 1: can maybe, I.
- 0:52Speaker 4: Mean, yes, it's always gonna be hard to cover, guys.
- 0:56Speaker 4: You know that fast and you know how's that much
- 0:59Speaker 4: speed on the siding can make moves and it's just
- 1:02Speaker 4: a really dynamic receiver.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Josh Newman, go ahead.
- 1:08Speaker 5: Yeah, Quinn, just with this season alone, how much have
- 1:11Speaker 5: you seen Arch grow up? You know in terms of
- 1:15Speaker 5: you know, his mentality and how he approaches the game
- 1:17Speaker 5: and just how prepared. Uh, do you believe he is
- 1:19Speaker 5: to kind of take the reins up starts offense.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:23Speaker 4: I think over the past two years has definitely growing
- 1:25Speaker 4: and mature for sure to be able to be successful
- 1:28Speaker 4: at Texas.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Danny Davis, go ahead, Quinn, over your three years, what
- 1:35Speaker 1: has Jake meant to you personally into this program? Take majors?
- 1:42Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean he means a lot to everybody on
- 1:44Speaker 4: this team.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I know that for sure.
- 1:46Speaker 4: I mean just the amount of juice that he brings in,
- 1:50Speaker 4: you know, just the amount of comfort that we all
- 1:52Speaker 4: have playing playing beside him and knowing that he's gonna
- 1:55Speaker 4: get us all in the in the right call for
- 1:57Speaker 4: for past protection and for for the run game. I mean,
- 2:01Speaker 4: just a super smart guy and awesome, awesome got to
- 2:03Speaker 4: be around for sure.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Setter Cold and you're up, Hey, Quinn.
- 2:10Speaker 6: We talked to Jeday and Michael Taff yesterday about the
- 2:14Speaker 6: the grind of this seasons long season. You played long
- 2:18Speaker 6: seasons at South Lake Carrol getting all the way to
- 2:20Speaker 6: state title game. How is this similar to that? And
- 2:24Speaker 6: what do you have? What special preparations do you have
- 2:27Speaker 6: to go through to stay fresh because it's a real
- 2:32Speaker 6: grind you to play seventeen games.
- 2:34Speaker 1: It's gets all of January twenty.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure. I mean, like you said, it's a
- 2:40Speaker 4: long season, and you know, it's nice to have a
- 2:44Speaker 4: little more time in between these games to be able
- 2:47Speaker 4: to get to you know, as close as close as
- 2:50Speaker 4: you can back to one hundred percent and also just
- 2:53Speaker 4: gives you more time to prepare for for for you know,
- 2:55Speaker 4: the opposing team that that we're playing. And but at
- 3:00Speaker 4: the end of the day, it's awesome. It's awesome to
- 3:02Speaker 4: to still be playing football whenever you know, other guys
- 3:06Speaker 4: or at home or training for the combine or whatever
- 3:08Speaker 4: it is. But it's definitely a blessing to to to
- 3:12Speaker 4: still be playing football for sure.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Day. But Acker go ahead, sorry, it is going off.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Hey, Quinn, I'm just curious, what what what are two
- 3:26Speaker 3: or three things that you specifically need to do to
- 3:30Speaker 3: be successful on Wednesday?
- 3:35Speaker 4: I think I just need to be a good leader,
- 3:37Speaker 4: uh through through the adversity, because adversity is going to strike,
- 3:41Speaker 4: and just take care of the football.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Barry Middleton, go ahead. Good afternoons.
- 3:47Speaker 3: So, thinking back when you were a kid and dreaming
- 3:50Speaker 3: about being a quarterback at the University of Texas, did
- 3:54Speaker 3: you ever have were your dreams this big? Did you
- 3:57Speaker 3: ever think that you would be playing at this stage,
- 4:00Speaker 3: being the general on the field to lead this team
- 4:02Speaker 3: to not only the Peach Bowl potentially.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that's it's the stuff you think about
- 4:10Speaker 4: as a kid, for sure, but you know, you never
- 4:16Speaker 4: know if it was actually gonna happen or not. But
- 4:18Speaker 4: you know, now we're actually in this situation. But you know,
- 4:22Speaker 4: I don't think it's really sunk in. You know what's
- 4:25Speaker 4: really going on around around me and just the blessings
- 4:29Speaker 4: that I've been been able to know be a part of.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Jeph How go ahead, Quinn?
- 4:36Speaker 5: As you guys get further along into the playoffs and
- 4:39Speaker 5: the season progresses, that I just want to be you know,
- 4:42Speaker 5: blocking out the outside nois being good or bad?
- 4:44Speaker 1: Seems easier said than done. What what keeps you.
- 4:48Speaker 7: Grounded and focused and locked in and not you know,
- 4:51Speaker 7: thinking about what's outside or what's next or anything, just
- 4:54Speaker 7: kind of focused on today and then the next day.
- 4:56Speaker 1: What what what keeps you keep you grounded?
- 4:59Speaker 2: Well?
- 5:00Speaker 4: Oh, I think I think my teammates because that's what
- 5:03Speaker 4: they deserve. You know, we were all in the same situations.
- 5:07Speaker 4: We all have stuff going on outside of football, But
- 5:09Speaker 4: you know, we all decide to come here and come
- 5:12Speaker 4: to the facility and practice eachould every day, be away
- 5:14Speaker 4: from our families, away from our loved ones, and you know,
- 5:18Speaker 4: we all have the ultimate goal trying to win a
- 5:20Speaker 4: national championship. And that's what everybody deserves. Everyone, everybody deserves
- 5:26Speaker 4: my best. And I think if you ask anybody in
- 5:29Speaker 4: that room, they or anybody in the locker room, that
- 5:32Speaker 4: they'll say the exact same thing.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Go time for three last questions in Q Chip, go ahead, Quinn.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Does this feel like it's new life? Uh?
- 5:43Speaker 4: For you?
- 5:44Speaker 1: This team?
- 5:45Speaker 8: Now that you're in the playoffs and you know, you
- 5:53Speaker 8: you talk about, you know, your ability to raise your level.
- 5:55Speaker 8: You did that against Clemson and and did DeAndre say
- 6:01Speaker 8: anything to you, you know, after he dropped the pass
- 6:05Speaker 8: that ultimately got picked.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Sure, you know, I mean you can look at it
- 6:12Speaker 4: like our first however many games until a bye week
- 6:15Speaker 4: was a season, and then again until our next buy
- 6:19Speaker 4: was a season, and then again until the playoffs was
- 6:21Speaker 4: a season. So you can say we're kind of in
- 6:23Speaker 4: a new season for sure. But I think what we've
- 6:27Speaker 4: done a really good job of this year is just
- 6:29Speaker 4: taking each week as its own week and and focusing
- 6:33Speaker 4: on what we need to do with that particular particular week,
- 6:37Speaker 4: and not being focused on what's ahead or or what
- 6:40Speaker 4: just happened the previous week. And yeah, and then with DeAndre,
- 6:46Speaker 4: I mean I'm not no one's no one's worried about that.
- 6:50Speaker 4: With DeAndre, I mean I think I might have let
- 6:51Speaker 4: him up the field a little too much.
- 6:53Speaker 1: And it can go either way. Two last ones Thomas Jones.
- 7:00Speaker 1: When Happy New Year.
- 7:02Speaker 9: When you have a guy like Trevor Grusbi up front,
- 7:05Speaker 9: how can you help a young player, you know, in
- 7:08Speaker 9: practice and during during the game itself as a quarterback,
- 7:11Speaker 9: what can you do to help him?
- 7:13Speaker 4: Well, I think what helps him the most, And what
- 7:18Speaker 4: I've noticed is just the smaller things, whether that be
- 7:21Speaker 4: you know, it could be as simple as a high
- 7:24Speaker 4: five or a knuckle bumper, just telling them, hey, good
- 7:26Speaker 4: job there, a good job. You know, pass protection, You're
- 7:29Speaker 4: doing a heck of a job out there. And I
- 7:30Speaker 4: think that goes a lot a long way for young guys,
- 7:32Speaker 4: because I know for sure when I was young, that
- 7:34Speaker 4: would that would help me a whole lot, just as
- 7:36Speaker 4: simple as that. If an if an older guy a
- 7:38Speaker 4: leader of the team came up to me and just
- 7:40Speaker 4: told me I was doing a good job. I'm like,
- 7:41Speaker 4: all right now, I'm gonna settle in here a little
- 7:44Speaker 4: bit and you know, kind of get into that flow state.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Last one Joe Cook kind of along those lines.
- 7:51Speaker 7: You know, what's to say about Trevor himself that you know,
- 7:53Speaker 7: if Cam's not able to go, if Calvin gets knocked
- 7:56Speaker 7: out of the game, that you know he can jump
- 7:58Speaker 7: right in and you still feel like you could be
- 8:00Speaker 7: protected on either side by number seventy four.
- 8:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, he's definitely proved that over the past
- 8:06Speaker 4: few weeks that you know he's more than capable of
- 8:09Speaker 4: of coming in at any moment in time and being
- 8:11Speaker 4: able to go play ball. And you know, just super
- 8:16Speaker 4: proud of the way that he's carried himself and prepared
- 8:19Speaker 4: himself to be able to do that throughout this year.
- 8:21Speaker 4: You know, going to the season, you know you've got
- 8:24Speaker 4: two really good tackles and you know Goosby is sitting
- 8:26Speaker 4: behind him. You know, he's probably thinking he's not going
- 8:28Speaker 4: to get much playing time this year, and then for
- 8:31Speaker 4: him to be able to kind.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Of flip that switch late in the season, it's been
- 8:34Speaker 2: really cool. Trump Gusby has been phenomenal for Texas this season.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Way he's been able to do this step in at
- 8:40Speaker 2: various times against A and M, against Georgia, against Clemson.
- 8:43Speaker 2: You feel really good about where he'll be at next season,
- 8:47Speaker 2: especially with Texes possibly losing what three starters on the
- 8:52Speaker 2: offensive line. If Cam Williams declare so, you know, Kelvin
- 8:55Speaker 2: Banks and Jake Majors will be gone next season. Could
- 8:58Speaker 2: be Cam Williams as well on that right side.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Real quick.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Craig Way mentioned that he thinks Quinn Youwers will have
- 9:05Speaker 2: a good game against Arizona State. Passing defense give about
- 9:07Speaker 2: two hun and fifteen yards per game, fifty seventh in
- 9:11Speaker 2: the country defensively in terms of game yards given up.
- 9:17Speaker 2: I mean they've they've gotten gashed a few times this season,
- 9:20Speaker 2: including against BYU. Gave up three hundred and forty six
- 9:23Speaker 2: passing yards in that win over the Cougars twenty eight
- 9:28Speaker 2: to twenty three. But we've seen offenses be able to
- 9:32Speaker 2: throw against Arizona State. I believe I shared the stat
- 9:35Speaker 2: with you earlier. In terms of EPA just an advanced
- 9:39Speaker 2: metric and way how they grade offenses and defenses. Arizona
- 9:43Speaker 2: State defensively one hundred in first in the country in
- 9:47Speaker 2: defensive success rates on dropbacks. Anytime the quarterback drops back
- 9:52Speaker 2: to throw, I believe successful yards is like four yards
- 9:55Speaker 2: or more. Forty two percent of the time the opposing
- 9:58Speaker 2: offense is successful against Arizona State's secondary, So one thing
- 10:03Speaker 2: to keep an eye on. I believe Texas will be
- 10:05Speaker 2: able to run the ball very well against Arizona State,
- 10:09Speaker 2: and especially so if quinn ewers in the offense can
- 10:11Speaker 2: find the rhythm in the passing game. And I think
- 10:14Speaker 2: having Isaiah Bond back will be huge because Texas has
- 10:18Speaker 2: not really had Bond healthy except for maybe against Florida
- 10:22Speaker 2: and then Oklahoma, but after that not too much. He's
- 10:25Speaker 2: not been healthy that much, did not finish against Georgia,
- 10:29Speaker 2: did not play against Clemson. So having Isaiah Bond back
- 10:32Speaker 2: will help the passing game tremendously. More than come here
- 10:35Speaker 2: as our three of The Greigway Show continues after this
