- 0:00Aloha. Thursday morning. A weak system is moving through the islands today, bringing scattered showers over windward areas. I'm Mele with what's happening in Hawaiʻi.
- 1:46Expect afternoon showers over windward and interior spots through Friday, then clearing at night. Leeward and dry-side areas stay mostly clear, especially in the morning — hit those spots early if you're heading out. Winds are light to moderate. Hot and humid through the weekend, so bring water and take breaks when you're out.
- 2:02Surf is moderate on Oʻahu — 4.5 feet south shore, 4 feet north. Watch for shore break and rip currents. Elsewhere, it's small and comfortable — 3.4 feet at Kāʻanapali, 3.2 feet at Hanalei, and Big Island is nearly glass at 1.5 feet. Morning's your best window before afternoon conditions build.
- 2:17Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is operating with closures on Kahuku Unit Roads, the Kīpukapuaulu Trail due to hazardous trees, and the Lava Tube Bridge replacement work. The park remains under advisory for Kīlauea. Watch for volcanic ash in exposed areas. Check the park website before heading out if Big Island volcanoes are on your list.
- 2:34Our stargazing guide posted today covers Hawaiʻi's clearest sky season — September through November. The piece breaks down the 2026 sky calendar, Mauna Kea access for visitors, and what Haleakalā looks like at night. If you're planning a fall trip and want to see the Milky Way without light pollution, it's worth reading before you book.
- 2:51Weekend trade winds start picking up late Saturday into Sunday, then settle into a pattern next week with stronger trades and showers shifting to windward and higher elevations. Nothing extreme — typical summer conditions, just plan for afternoon showers in exposed spots.
- 3:05Grab that morning window today and stay hydrated. Catch you tomorrow.
