Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Out of the gates on Sport and State. Glad you're
- 0:03Speaker 1: with us this morning. The Monday edition of Hutton and Withrow. Chad,
- 0:08Speaker 1: good to be back with you, man. We are presented
- 0:10Speaker 1: by Hard Rock Bet and it is week two at sportandstate.com.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Hutton, it feels good to be here in week two.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Stepped outside at 545 this morning and it feels a
- 0:21Speaker 2: little bit like football season. Not going to lie. Got
- 0:23Speaker 2: a little bit excited. Got a little bit tingly in
- 0:25Speaker 2: the special area. When I walked outside, it felt a
- 0:28Speaker 2: 60-degree warning. It was an amazing feeling this morning, so
- 0:33Speaker 2: I'm excited and ready to go.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Down in the plums?
- 0:35Speaker 2: Yes, yes. Ashley Schaefer would have agreed with the feeling
- 0:39Speaker 2: this morning, as it's almost time to bang some hats.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Or down in the balls, shall we say. The Nashville balls. XXXY.
- 0:48Speaker 1: We've got plenty to come. Last night... I know our
- 0:52Speaker 1: guy Mark, who's helping us with the show today, he
- 0:55Speaker 1: was out late. I was at the Titans game as well.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Had late TV last night. Plenty to discuss with what
- 1:02Speaker 1: we saw on Sunday night in primetime, the Titans' only
- 1:05Speaker 1: primetime matchup of the 2026 NFL season. Deshaun Watson, primetime,
- 1:13Speaker 1: not for him whenever it comes to fan bases. If
- 1:15Speaker 1: he thinks the Browns fans are booing him, I want
- 1:18Speaker 1: to know what's fan bases not going to boo him
- 1:20Speaker 1: with the With any team he plays for. A lot
- 1:23Speaker 1: to discuss there. Plus Todd Munkin on Lane Kiffin and much,
- 1:28Speaker 1: much more. But Chad, we start with the W. The WNBA.
- 1:34Speaker 1: And a pro-trans message from Natasha Cloud to Enos Cantor.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Enos Cantor, who is baseline as they take on the
- 1:44Speaker 1: Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky. Well, they're not happy
- 1:49Speaker 1: about their future WNBA teammate?
- 1:54Speaker 2: Yeah, look, first off, Caitlin Clark went silly in that game.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Huge night for her. So congrats to her doing that
- 1:59Speaker 2: in front of the future number one overall pick in
- 2:01Speaker 2: the WNBA draft and Enos Freedom Cantor, who was courtside.
- 2:05Speaker 2: So really send a message to Freedom Cantor. By the way,
- 2:08Speaker 2: if you were in the link this morning or you're
- 2:11Speaker 2: in the chat on YouTube, I'm going to be in
- 2:13Speaker 2: there throughout the day. I've actually got a special offer
- 2:17Speaker 2: for someone who's that I'm only going to reveal in
- 2:21Speaker 2: the chat this morning, a giveaway. That's from me to
- 2:25Speaker 2: someone who was with us in the chat this morning. Yeah, Hutton,
- 2:28Speaker 2: it's a crazy story. Enos Freedom Cantor was apparently cheering
- 2:32Speaker 2: a Sophie Cunningham three, and Natasha Cloud for the Chicago
- 2:36Speaker 2: Sky took offense to that. He had a shirt on
- 2:40Speaker 2: that just said woman, and I think a definition underneath
- 2:43Speaker 2: it was what triggered, well, we know what.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Triggered Natasha Cloud. The definition was me.
- 2:48Speaker 2: It's everything.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I identify as.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Yes. And then so Natasha Cloud runs over to the
- 2:54Speaker 2: baseline and gets in the face of Enos Cantor. And
- 2:58Speaker 2: according to Enos Cantor said, she's not going to sleep
- 3:00Speaker 2: with you, bro, about Sophie Cunningham when he was cheering
- 3:04Speaker 2: her three. And then Cantor stood up and words were exchanged.
- 3:08Speaker 2: And it was Enos Freedom Cantor being ejected from the arena.
- 3:12Speaker 1: She's not going to sleep with you, bro, because she's
- 3:15Speaker 1: sleeping with me.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Yeah. I think that normally would be what would be said.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I don't think that could be said about Sophie Cunningham.
- 3:24Speaker 2: But I do think that could be a taunt from
- 3:25Speaker 2: many WNBA players. Like, sorry, man, she's going home with me.
- 3:28Speaker 1: She's leaving with me.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Yeah. Look, this is just another example of the absurdity
- 3:35Speaker 2: of what's going on in the WNBA. First off, if
- 3:38Speaker 2: this happens in a serious league and a player goes
- 3:42Speaker 2: into the crowd to go after a fan in that
- 3:45Speaker 2: way and leaves the court... leaves the playing surface to
- 3:48Speaker 2: do it because a fan stood up and cheered and
- 3:51Speaker 2: wasn't doing anything to disrupt the game, then that player
- 3:55Speaker 2: is going to be disciplined in some way. Suspended, fined, something.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Natasha Cloud's not going to be– nothing's going to happen
- 4:02Speaker 2: to her. I mean, the coach is saying we completely
- 4:05Speaker 2: have her back. She stands for those who can't defend themselves,
- 4:09Speaker 2: and we stand for– Tosh– They said Tosh stands for
- 4:12Speaker 2: this and we stand for her. I mean, this is
- 4:15Speaker 2: just your typical good versus evil. We're right. You're wrong.
- 4:20Speaker 2: We're accepting. You're hateful. And we hate you for that reason.
- 4:24Speaker 2: So if you're going to come to our game, then
- 4:26Speaker 2: we could do anything we want to you because we're
- 4:28Speaker 2: the cool kid club and we're all about accepting transgender
- 4:32Speaker 2: kids and everything else. And you're hateful and you're trash
- 4:35Speaker 2: and you're this. So we're going to treat you any
- 4:37Speaker 2: way we want. We're not going to have a discussion.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I'm going to get in your face and taunt you
- 4:40Speaker 2: about not being able to sleep with Sophie Cunningham, and
- 4:43Speaker 2: you're going to be the one who gets escorted out
- 4:46Speaker 2: of the arena and not me. Again, Hunt, and I
- 4:48Speaker 2: just think another example of an unserious league with the WNBA.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Well, good for Enos Cantor, who was able to get
- 4:54Speaker 1: escorted out of the game. I mean, he came and
- 4:57Speaker 1: he conquered, or they came and they conquered, I should say,
- 5:00Speaker 1: because he is the future number one pick of the
- 5:03Speaker 1: WNBA draft once he identifies as a woman. officially, and
- 5:07Speaker 1: goes number one overall in the WNBA draft. Because right now,
- 5:10Speaker 1: Natasha Cloud's going to be having to pick up basketball
- 5:14Speaker 1: against them next year.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Hutton, we're going to talk about the Titans in that
- 5:17Speaker 2: game in primetime last night on Fox. Big primetime Sunday night.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Longest first half of my life.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Primetime Sunday night NFL preseason game. I don't know what
- 5:28Speaker 2: was the worst broadcast. That game on Fox or the
- 5:33Speaker 2: NBC WNBA game. You'll have to tell me on that.
- 5:35Speaker 2: I have no idea. That was on NBC. That was
- 5:37Speaker 2: on NBC last night. I'm not saying the Fox broadcast
- 5:40Speaker 2: was bad. I'm saying trying to make.
- 5:42Speaker 1: That a big event. I'm saying, or the NBC game.
- 5:45Speaker 1: You'll have to tell me how that broadcast was. I'm
- 5:48Speaker 1: not tuned into the WNBA. I watch the highlights on social,
- 5:51Speaker 1: and that's it. I watched five minutes of the game.
- 5:54Speaker 1: But what I really saw was highlights also. But when
- 5:56Speaker 1: Natasha Cloud went into the crowd, some woman who sounded
- 6:00Speaker 1: like Doris Burke, but I don't think is Doris Burke,
- 6:02Speaker 1: said something like, Natasha Cloud will have her voice heard.
- 6:07Speaker 2: She wants her voice to be heard. And I'm thinking, okay,
- 6:11Speaker 2: she is good. This would be like someone, by the way,
- 6:14Speaker 2: people are really angry with the middle school fight at us.
- 6:16Speaker 2: And I love it. Keep the comments coming. How do
- 6:19Speaker 2: you guys think this is funny? She attacked a child,
- 6:21Speaker 2: this and that. I went back and broke down the tape,
- 6:23Speaker 2: by the way, channel five Hutton, which you were on
- 6:26Speaker 2: last night. has an interview with the woman who attacked
- 6:29Speaker 2: the kid, and they went back and showed the video,
- 6:31Speaker 2: and the kid that she went after had her little
- 6:34Speaker 2: brother on the ground, was choking him in a fight
- 6:37Speaker 2: right before that, and that's why she snapped.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Well, beyond that, he was doing multiple things throughout the game.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Yeah, and look, I don't excuse it.
- 6:46Speaker 1: The one argument I do make on that fight is
- 6:48Speaker 1: if roles were reversed, we're not sitting there making fun
- 6:51Speaker 1: of that. If the boy went out there. Yeah, yeah.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Oh, absolutely not. To a girl, you're saying?
- 7:00Speaker 1: Correct. Or to a younger man.
- 7:04Speaker 2: The fact that she's 16 is... 16 with a 13
- 7:09Speaker 2: or 14-year-old, right? She's bigger.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I'm saying if a 16-year-old kid went out there at
- 7:14Speaker 1: a middle school game, we wouldn't be reacting the same
- 7:16Speaker 1: way either.
- 7:17Speaker 3: A boy.
- 7:18Speaker 2: A boy after a girl.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Or a boy.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Yeah, of course not. But I'll also say..
- 7:24Speaker 1: That's the one argument. I was like, yeah, you're probably right.
- 7:26Speaker 1: But this, I mean, sorry, but that's not how the
- 7:28Speaker 1: circumstances were.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Well, I think with a lot of people in our comments,
- 7:33Speaker 2: it's a white-black thing, too. When you look at it,
- 7:37Speaker 2: it's what's happening. Look, I'm not excusing anybody running on
- 7:39Speaker 2: a field to attack somebody. Like, the funny part is
- 7:42Speaker 2: that she actually blocked the kid afterward back to the ground.
- 7:46Speaker 2: But there was a reason that she did it. There
- 7:51Speaker 2: was no reason for Natasha Clow to go after Enos
- 7:53Speaker 2: Cantor freedom last night. I'm sorry. He's sitting courtside in
- 7:56Speaker 2: a t-shirt that you don't like. To do that is
- 7:59Speaker 2: just second rate and it shows an unserious organization.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Let's be honest here though, Chad. Enos Cantor got exactly
- 8:05Speaker 1: what he wanted. He wanted Natasha Clow to go at him.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I don't think he's sitting there silent.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Well, again..
- 8:13Speaker 2: There's a lot of people that stand to benefit from
- 8:15Speaker 2: a culture war in WNBA.
- 8:17Speaker 1: That's right.
- 8:17Speaker 2: The WNBA included.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Well, and him. Yeah.
- 8:21Speaker 2: We're not talking about WNBA if this isn't a story. No,
- 8:25Speaker 2: hell no. Caitlin Clark's 38 points in record-breaking performance is
- 8:30Speaker 2: not what we're leading the show with.
- 8:31Speaker 1: That's a Sunday night.
- 8:32Speaker 2: If not for Enos Cantor Freedom getting kicked out. They're
- 8:35Speaker 2: not on NBC on Sunday night. No. If not for
- 8:37Speaker 2: a lot of this. No.
- 8:39Speaker 1: And, yeah, look. It's still, it's the, it is the
- 8:45Speaker 1: Caitlin Clark show. It's the Sophie Cunningham show too, by
- 8:48Speaker 1: the way. And what did, you said Natasha Cloud was
- 8:53Speaker 1: saying that she was giving a voice to the voiceless?
- 8:55Speaker 2: No, it was the, the announcer was saying, oh, here's
- 8:58Speaker 2: Natasha Cloud. They're showing the replay. She's going to have
- 9:01Speaker 2: her voice heard.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Right, but the quote from Natasha Cloud said basically the
- 9:04Speaker 1: same thing. Yeah, the quote from Natasha Cloud said, To
- 9:09Speaker 1: every trans kid person, you are a part of my
- 9:11Speaker 1: community and tribe. You belong. You're loved. You're seen. You're
- 9:14Speaker 1: perfect as you are, and you will always be protected
- 9:16Speaker 1: by me. What about your WNBA teammate? Will Sophie Cunningham
- 9:25Speaker 1: not be heard? What about those who don't want this
- 9:28Speaker 1: to happen in their league, who are not about a
- 9:32Speaker 1: man taking over a woman's sport on the roster or
- 9:35Speaker 1: spot on the roster? Will their voices be heard? Sounds
- 9:39Speaker 1: like they won't. They've been silenced. We've seen that in
- 9:41Speaker 1: press conferences. The media's been silenced. You can't ask certain questions.
- 9:44Speaker 1: If you do, you're not allowed to ask those questions
- 9:46Speaker 1: at the press conference. You're not credentialed by the league. So,
- 9:50Speaker 1: you know, not every voice is heard in the WNBA.
- 9:52Speaker 1: And if you're seen, well, you're escorted out of the building. Although,
- 9:56Speaker 1: I did see the standoff where Cantor does his eight-foot
- 9:59Speaker 1: wing And I'm thinking, yeah, that's what you get looked
- 10:02Speaker 1: forward to. That's a lady-on-lady crime right there, one getting
- 10:07Speaker 1: escorted out.
- 10:08Speaker 2: This is what you're going to get when you face
- 10:10Speaker 2: that team of eighth graders that Clay's assembling, that powerhouse
- 10:12Speaker 2: team that he had the highlight video of when you
- 10:15Speaker 2: go head-to-head with them.
- 10:16Speaker 1: That is the number one overall pick.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Just like Natasha Cloud wants to run at Cantor and say,
- 10:21Speaker 2: Sophie Cunningham is not going to sleep with you, dude,
- 10:23Speaker 2: and go after him. I would fire the same back
- 10:27Speaker 2: to Natasha Cloud. Transgender people aren't going to suddenly be
- 10:31Speaker 2: huge WNBA fans because you stand up there and act
- 10:34Speaker 2: like you are their white knight protecting all of their
- 10:36Speaker 2: rights and everything else. You're doing the same thing. Enos
- 10:41Speaker 2: Cantor is doing one thing, and he's appealing to a
- 10:45Speaker 2: segment of the population that and he's doing it well
- 10:48Speaker 2: because he's getting a lot of attention doing it, you
- 10:51Speaker 2: are just coming back and saying, well, you're here, I'm here,
- 10:54Speaker 2: I'm defending the defenseless, and I'm going to sit here
- 10:56Speaker 2: and fight for what I know is right. They're not
- 10:59Speaker 2: going to suddenly buy season tickets to go watch Chicago
- 11:02Speaker 2: Sky games. This league is a failing proposition based on
- 11:07Speaker 2: the merits of the basketball. And that's what's unfortunate for
- 11:10Speaker 2: the WNBA. They cannot gain traction even with Kaitlyn Clark.
- 11:15Speaker 2: They're getting eyeballs, but all the eyeballs, a lot of
- 11:17Speaker 2: them are surrounding Sophie Cunningham and Kaitlyn Clark, and Kaitlyn
- 11:21Speaker 2: Clark doesn't say enough against the right, and Sophie Cunningham
- 11:24Speaker 2: has a line with the right, so now we're going
- 11:26Speaker 2: to attack her, and now dudes are saying they're going
- 11:29Speaker 2: to be eligible for the WNBA draft, and all the
- 11:31Speaker 2: WNBA has to say is, here's the definition of a woman,
- 11:36Speaker 2: and you have to be a woman to play in
- 11:38Speaker 2: the W.
- 11:39Speaker 1: The W.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Will not define what a woman is and what it
- 11:43Speaker 2: means to be eligible for their WNBA draft. If they
- 11:46Speaker 2: just came out and did that, it would silence a
- 11:47Speaker 2: lot of this. Then we'd go back to seeing if
- 11:50Speaker 2: the league could survive on its own based on the
- 11:52Speaker 2: basketball merits, and I don't know that it could.
- 11:54Speaker 1: We would go back to Caitlin Clark being hounded for
- 11:59Speaker 1: retweeting or liking or following Taylor Swift, who endorsed the left.
- 12:05Speaker 1: That's what we'd go back to. This league will never
- 12:07Speaker 1: be about the basketball. No. It never will. It has
- 12:10Speaker 1: no shot because, uh, again, like it's on national, it's,
- 12:14Speaker 1: it's about Caitlin Clark. It's not about the, the sport itself.
- 12:18Speaker 1: The sport's not on, uh, the national spotlight. It's the individual.
- 12:22Speaker 1: And then no, there's no other individuals that want to, uh,
- 12:25Speaker 1: jump on board the gravy train. That is Caitlin Clark.
- 12:29Speaker 1: In fact, they, they hate her. They hate us because
- 12:32Speaker 1: the anus.
- 12:34Speaker 2: And, uh, Natasha Cloud hates Enos Cantor because he ain't them.
- 12:40Speaker 2: He ain't her.
- 12:41Speaker 1: He ain't they.
- 12:42Speaker 2: He ain't whatever you want to say it is. He
- 12:45Speaker 2: definitely isn't any of those things.
- 12:46Speaker 1: He's been a part of the LGBTQWNBA. Yes.
- 12:50Speaker 2: The alphabet soup game is back.
- 12:53Speaker 1: How was your weekend, man?
- 12:54Speaker 2: It was good. I had a birthday party for my
- 12:57Speaker 2: now seven-year-old. I got to smoke some fine meats at
- 13:00Speaker 2: the house. There you go. I call it sausage burnt
- 13:04Speaker 2: ends is the recipe. but did that and then smoked
- 13:07Speaker 2: some burgers and had some people over, some family. So
- 13:10Speaker 2: it was a nice weekend. I'm just so excited. We
- 13:13Speaker 2: got to call high school football on Friday night, which
- 13:15Speaker 2: was a great return to that sport for us.
- 13:17Speaker 1: We're going to be at another game this Friday.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Night, but it now feels like we have set the
- 13:21Speaker 2: wheels in motion to football season. Week zero games will
- 13:25Speaker 2: be played this upcoming weekend in college football. So that
- 13:28Speaker 2: time has arrived. The big weekend of college football is
- 13:31Speaker 2: the following week. We're two weeks away, three weeks away.
- 13:34Speaker 2: From the start of the NFL season, I, Hutton, and Pump,
- 13:38Speaker 2: we got plenty of football coming your way on the
- 13:40Speaker 2: show today.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Man, I am seeing a fundraiser on Saturday night, and
- 13:45Speaker 1: it was cool to see how many people came up
- 13:48Speaker 1: and just said something about Sporting State. Words out, man.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Words out. I was like, yeah, Clay was pumped whenever
- 13:55Speaker 1: we had 30,000 ex-followers.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:58Speaker 1: I was just like, man, we're just getting started here.
- 14:01Speaker 1: It's been a great, great start, and week two is underway.
- 14:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Every day is the Super Bowl with our likes to say.
- 14:06Speaker 1: I'm with them on that. We got that going.
- 14:09Speaker 2: It's amazing, by the way, Hutton, the lack of hit
- 14:11Speaker 2: pieces that are out there about the brand. I think
- 14:14Speaker 2: that's a really– I say that as a positive because
- 14:17Speaker 2: I do think that we have– Clay especially has built
- 14:22Speaker 2: up a level of credibility with what he's done. I
- 14:24Speaker 2: know he referenced Shannon Terry, our buddy too, who's created
- 14:28Speaker 2: multiple media brands. Clay is attempting now to build his
- 14:31Speaker 2: second brand. to join that multiple media brand mogul club
- 14:36Speaker 2: with Shannon Terry. And Clay said a lot of nice
- 14:38Speaker 2: things about Shannon as well. And Shannon's done a great
- 14:40Speaker 2: job with On3. But the coverage of it has been
- 14:43Speaker 2: done in a fair way that I don't know would
- 14:48Speaker 2: have been the case three or four years ago.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Right?
- 14:52Speaker 2: Like, I think that we've come a long way with that.
- 14:54Speaker 1: For sure. No doubt. Looking forward to that. And Chad,
- 14:57Speaker 1: you said you have a special gift, an offer, a
- 15:00Speaker 1: special offer in the chat today at our YouTube channel,
- 15:02Speaker 1: which is at Hutton & Withrow.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Yeah, we're going to go ahead and post, and we're
- 15:06Speaker 2: going to post from Hutton & Withrow also. Keep posting
- 15:08Speaker 2: the link to the YouTube show live. First off, we
- 15:12Speaker 2: are going to be on podcast this week. I had
- 15:14Speaker 2: some guy come at me this week, and he said,
- 15:17Speaker 2: why are you not on podcast? And I said, well,
- 15:19Speaker 2: the goal is we're going to build up the YouTube page.
- 15:22Speaker 2: We're going to have some, you know, let people watch
- 15:24Speaker 2: live and then watch and post on YouTube. And then
- 15:26Speaker 2: eventually we'll go to the podcast. And this guy's like, oh,
- 15:29Speaker 2: it's a terrible business model. I'm in my car. I'm
- 15:32Speaker 2: working starting at 6 a.m. Who the hell is going
- 15:35Speaker 2: to watch you at that time of day?
- 15:36Speaker 3: Yada, yada, yada.
- 15:37Speaker 2: I'm thinking, dude, we're going to, fair point. We're going
- 15:40Speaker 2: to be on podcasts for you and anyone else who
- 15:43Speaker 2: wants to listen to the show on the way home
- 15:45Speaker 2: from work later in the day. So we will be
- 15:47Speaker 2: with that this week. I'm very excited for that. And Hutton,
- 15:51Speaker 2: I'm not going to reveal it just yet. We're letting
- 15:53Speaker 2: people get into the chat right now, but I'm going
- 15:55Speaker 2: to have a special offer that is of high price
- 15:57Speaker 2: value that I'm going to give away to someone in
- 16:00Speaker 2: the YouTube chat that's with us.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Looking forward to it. Can't wait to find out what
- 16:05Speaker 1: it is. I'm going to hop in the chat and
- 16:06Speaker 1: find out. You can do that as well.

- 16:15Speaker 1: you'll like, comment, and subscribe. Ring that bell. Hit that
- 16:19Speaker 1: alarm button. That way, you know, we go live each
- 16:20Speaker 1: and every day, 8 a.m. Eastern, right here across the
- 16:23Speaker 1: Sporting State Network. Stay tuned. More coming, including what we
- 16:27Speaker 1: saw last night from Cam Ward.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Good Lord.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Coming up, Deshaun Watson. And, well, he's at odds with
- 16:34Speaker 1: Cleveland Browns fans. How does Cleveland, how does that franchise
- 16:38Speaker 1: move forward with Deshaun Watson playing quarterback again? We'll discuss that.
- 16:42Speaker 1: But speaking of quarterback, Cam Ward and the Titans offense.
- 16:47Speaker 1: They wanted to look a lot better than they did
- 16:50Speaker 1: in their first preseason outing. And, well, Chad, they went
- 16:54Speaker 1: down and they got a field goal on their opening possession.
- 16:56Speaker 1: They had a nine-play drive. And I said last night,
- 17:01Speaker 1: locally here in Nashville on Channel 5, I said, man,
- 17:04Speaker 1: it looks a lot like last season's offense where the offense,
- 17:09Speaker 1: they would always start fast. They'd go get points in
- 17:11Speaker 1: some way, shape, form, or fashion. And then just, you know,
- 17:15Speaker 1: tail off and go a lot of three and outs.
- 17:18Speaker 1: They'd fumble the football. And while they didn't lose the fumble,
- 17:22Speaker 1: Ken Moore did fumble again. There's nothing that seems to be, uh,
- 17:26Speaker 1: in sync with this group. And while they can run
- 17:29Speaker 1: the football, uh, that's really all you gotta do. Stop
- 17:32Speaker 1: the Titans run and you stop the Titans and the defense,
- 17:36Speaker 1: the defense sucks.
- 17:39Speaker 2: I don't know what's good about this team. Maybe other
- 17:41Speaker 2: than the kicker at this point. Um, Very disheartening watching
- 17:46Speaker 2: this game last night. It's a preseason game. You can't overreact.
- 17:50Speaker 2: I'm overreacting.
- 17:52Speaker 1: I don't feel like I'm overreacting.
- 17:54Speaker 2: I'm reacting appropriately because this is an opportunity for the
- 17:58Speaker 2: Titans to hammer somebody early because it's your starters versus backups.
- 18:03Speaker 2: And instead, I'm posing the question midway through the first half,
- 18:07Speaker 2: should we trade for Drew Locke if you're a Titans fan?
- 18:10Speaker 2: I mean, Drew Locke looks light years better than Cam
- 18:13Speaker 2: Ward as the backup quarterback for the Seahawks. He looked terrible.
- 18:17Speaker 2: And he looks like a guy who doesn't learn from
- 18:19Speaker 2: a single mistake. I mean, carrying the ball that loosely
- 18:23Speaker 2: and getting it knocked out of bounds the way he
- 18:25Speaker 2: was running it, it goes back to that first scramble
- 18:27Speaker 2: of the year where I'm like, why is he not
- 18:29Speaker 2: running hard? Why is he doing this foolish stuff where
- 18:32Speaker 2: he runs around? I'm watching SportsCenter this morning, and they're
- 18:35Speaker 2: showing the highlight of him, incomplete pass. to Gunnar Helm
- 18:38Speaker 2: where he's going to the sideline. And Titans fans are
- 18:40Speaker 2: coming back defending it and saying, well, what you're going
- 18:43Speaker 2: to get is that play where he casually runs the
- 18:45Speaker 2: ball like with a loaf of bread and gets it
- 18:47Speaker 2: knocked out. But you're also going to get that play later.
- 18:50Speaker 2: I'm willing to do away with the incomplete passes, you know,
- 18:53Speaker 2: down the field for 18 or 20 yards on those plays.
- 18:56Speaker 2: For this dude to understand the playbook, To understand the formations,
- 19:01Speaker 2: to understand what's in front of him, to not freak
- 19:03Speaker 2: out too early when there's not a lot of pressure there,
- 19:05Speaker 2: to not hold the ball too long when there is
- 19:08Speaker 2: legitimate pressure there and try to make something happen when
- 19:10Speaker 2: nothing is there, to not try to force it. I
- 19:14Speaker 2: just want him to be an okay NFL quarterback right now.
- 19:17Speaker 2: And he is far from that. He is one of
- 19:20Speaker 2: the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL. And Hutton, I
- 19:23Speaker 2: don't see any reason for hope right now from what
- 19:25Speaker 2: Cam Ward has shown. And I don't know how he's
- 19:27Speaker 2: going to turn around in preseason game number three. I
- 19:30Speaker 2: don't know if a light's going to come on when
- 19:31Speaker 2: they play the New York Jets in the regular season.
- 19:34Speaker 2: But to reiterate what you just said, it looks a
- 19:36Speaker 2: lot like the same offense from a year ago, even
- 19:38Speaker 2: though they went out and hired Brian Dayball, who is
- 19:41Speaker 2: a competent and good offensive coordinator in this league.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Well, I think a lot of the offense is what
- 19:46Speaker 1: Callahan was sold on doing. You know, this quote-unquote new age,
- 19:50Speaker 1: short passing game, get some rhythm established. And he hit
- 19:53Speaker 1: some short passes last night. Cam Ward did. But again,
- 19:57Speaker 1: this is not an offense that looks like the Seattle Seahawks,
- 20:00Speaker 1: where for the second consecutive week, they're playing backups. They're
- 20:04Speaker 1: playing the second string defense. of the San Francisco 49ers
- 20:08Speaker 1: and the Seattle Seahawks, two playoff teams from a year ago.
- 20:12Speaker 1: They're talking about the world champions coming into town. It
- 20:14Speaker 1: was one versus ones in the joint practice. And then
- 20:17Speaker 1: the second string, led by Drew Locke, who starts 11
- 20:19Speaker 1: for 11, much like the quarterback a week ago against
- 20:23Speaker 1: his Titans defense. Look, man, I think Cam is competent.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I think Cam knows the formations and different things. I
- 20:34Speaker 1: think he's a bit gun-shy with an offensive line from
- 20:37Speaker 1: last year. It's a new-look offensive line, but it's a
- 20:41Speaker 1: brand-new center, rookie right guard, and question marks at tackle.
- 20:45Speaker 1: They have to prove themselves when it comes to pass protection.
- 20:49Speaker 1: That will eventually happen in the regular season. But Chad,
- 20:52Speaker 1: this is an offense that if they're going to have
- 20:53Speaker 1: success early in the season, it's not going to be
- 20:56Speaker 1: through Cam Ward. It's going to be through the run game.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Their first four opponents... The Jets, the Eagles, the Giants,
- 21:03Speaker 1: and the Ravens. Those four teams struggled to stop the run,
- 21:08Speaker 1: especially the Jets and the Giants. They really struggled to
- 21:11Speaker 1: stop the run. Bottom of the league in terms of
- 21:14Speaker 1: run defense. Eagles, bottom third in run defense. If they're
- 21:18Speaker 1: going to have success early on, they're going to run
- 21:20Speaker 1: the football behind this offensive line and some running backs
- 21:23Speaker 1: that can actually move the sticks. Tony Pollard can be
- 21:28Speaker 1: just fine. He's a pro. And this is an offensive
- 21:31Speaker 1: line that can actually, I think, move the line of
- 21:33Speaker 1: scrimmage a bit with how they tend to be some
- 21:36Speaker 1: road graders up front. Every offensive line runs running the ball.
- 21:39Speaker 1: They're going to have to do that. A lot more
- 21:42Speaker 1: than they did a year ago. Last September, for whatever reason,
- 21:44Speaker 1: Callahan just didn't want to rely on the run. He
- 21:46Speaker 1: wanted to rely on Cam Ward. Dable's going to run
- 21:48Speaker 1: the ball early this season. And that's where the defense
- 21:51Speaker 1: comes in. This defense, especially on the back end of
- 21:54Speaker 1: the defense, the pass rush isn't there. This is the
- 21:56Speaker 1: number one defense going against backups. this year, this past week.
- 22:02Speaker 1: And it's Jeffrey Simmons and then everybody else. Jeffrey Simmons,
- 22:06Speaker 1: talking about BTA, belts to asses, in the joint practice,
- 22:12Speaker 1: he's mic'd up. Jeffrey Simmons can hold his own. Jeffrey
- 22:15Speaker 1: Simmons can back up the talk. Not one player, Chad,
- 22:18Speaker 1: not one player last night started that game with the
- 22:21Speaker 1: same ferocity, with the same mindset that Jeffrey Simmons had
- 22:24Speaker 1: in the joint practice. Simmons can bring it. But you
- 22:28Speaker 1: have the starters from the Seattle Seahawks on the sideline
- 22:32Speaker 1: that Simmons fired up. And by the way, Simmons knows
- 22:35Speaker 1: he's going to fire them up. But he's hoping to
- 22:37Speaker 1: fire up his own team. And he's got the Seattle
- 22:39Speaker 1: Seahawks starters coming off the bench taking penalties after they're
- 22:42Speaker 1: just routing the starting defense of the Tennessee Titans up 16-3.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Like it's nobody's business to start that game. That's concerning too.
- 22:51Speaker 1: It goes beyond just Cam Ward.
- 22:54Speaker 2: It goes well beyond just Cam Ward. I'm with you.
- 22:57Speaker 2: And the second string part of this is what really
- 22:59Speaker 2: is infuriating to me. And also all the excuses about
- 23:03Speaker 2: the offensive line, who was bad a year ago, but
- 23:06Speaker 2: with what they're investing in that offensive line with Peter Skowronski,
- 23:09Speaker 2: with JC Latham and where he was selected. I mean,
- 23:13Speaker 2: go up and down that line. This is not some
- 23:16Speaker 2: bargain basement, cheap offensive line. They're trying to get by
- 23:19Speaker 2: with six round picks across the board. They have invested heavily.
- 23:23Speaker 2: and spent money. They get a fourth and less than
- 23:26Speaker 2: a yard in this game, and they can't get it.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Yes. Yes.
- 23:30Speaker 2: What the hell? What the hell is wrong with you
- 23:33Speaker 2: that you're getting dominated by second stringers for the Seattle Seahawks?
- 23:37Speaker 2: To me, that screams for a lack of culture on
- 23:40Speaker 2: that offensive line, a lack of toughness, a lack of
- 23:43Speaker 2: common sense and personnel also, because TyJ Spears should not
- 23:46Speaker 2: be running the ball in that one. I'm giving it
- 23:48Speaker 2: to Tony Pollard, who I feel a lot better about
- 23:50Speaker 2: picking up a yard In that situation, if faced with
- 23:53Speaker 2: the same. Now, he didn't have much of a chance.
- 23:55Speaker 1: And I think Pollard would have been in the game
- 23:56Speaker 1: for that probably, or Singleton. But Pollard's night was done
- 24:01Speaker 1: at that point.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Yeah. I need somebody else in the game there. And again,
- 24:05Speaker 2: if you're going to play starters this long for the
- 24:07Speaker 2: Titans and you're Robert Sala, which is a decision I
- 24:09Speaker 2: completely agree with. If you're him, they haven't proven enough yet.
- 24:13Speaker 2: They need the reps. They need to be out there
- 24:15Speaker 2: proving themselves. But if you're going to take that approach,
- 24:18Speaker 2: then you've got to go get a yard. On a
- 24:21Speaker 2: fourth down situation against backups, you've got to show something.
- 24:25Speaker 2: And just coming back after every game talking about how
- 24:28Speaker 2: missed opportunities and a mistake here or there and this
- 24:32Speaker 2: and that. And the other thing we haven't even gotten
- 24:33Speaker 2: to yet really is the secondary for the Titans, which
- 24:36Speaker 2: I thought was really bad again last night for a
- 24:38Speaker 2: second straight game with what they invested.
- 24:40Speaker 1: And Robert Sala this past week, Chad, called a team meeting.
- 24:44Speaker 1: A team meeting. Everybody's in the room. 15-minute meeting, and
- 24:48Speaker 1: he did nothing but talk about man coverage. Man coverage.
- 24:52Speaker 1: He called out the cornerbacks. Called out the secondary. Because
- 24:56Speaker 1: he wanted to stress and hold everyone accountable to hold
- 25:01Speaker 1: the secondary accountable. Elante Taylor said as much. He's like, yeah, man.
- 25:05Speaker 1: We had to sit there. I'm sure it was boring
- 25:07Speaker 1: for everybody else. They were pissed off they had to
- 25:08Speaker 1: sit through this meeting. But now they're going to hold
- 25:10Speaker 1: us accountable for having to do that. There's some embarrassment
- 25:13Speaker 1: factor with that. And Salah hasn't hidden the fact that
- 25:16Speaker 1: he's like, we've got to be better than that, than
- 25:18Speaker 1: what they saw in San Francisco. Got to be a
- 25:20Speaker 1: ton better. And look, you're going to give up your
- 25:25Speaker 1: fair share of plays if you're on an island in
- 25:27Speaker 1: the NFL. The rules are stacked against you. It's the
- 25:29Speaker 1: hardest position to play is corner because you're one-on-one and
- 25:32Speaker 1: the rules are stacked to where you're supposed to lose. Right?
- 25:36Speaker 1: Like you're not going to win. It's not 50-50. It's
- 25:39Speaker 1: not a fair fight. But these guys out of position,
- 25:43Speaker 1: wide open, running wide open down the field. There's some busts.
- 25:47Speaker 1: I think Salah is okay. Not okay. He doesn't want
- 25:50Speaker 1: it to happen. But Kevin Winston Jr. gets out of
- 25:52Speaker 1: position on the first touchdown of the game last night,
- 25:55Speaker 1: for those that were watching. Salah's okay with that because
- 25:58Speaker 1: now he gets to correct it. But if that happens
- 26:01Speaker 1: in a regular season game, yeah, now it's on the
- 26:05Speaker 1: coaches to correct it. Now it's the defense that needs
- 26:08Speaker 1: to correct this, not the other way around.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Who are we relying on, Hutton? If you're a Titans
- 26:12Speaker 2: fan out there and you're looking at this team, outside
- 26:15Speaker 2: of Jeffrey Simmons, who's made of the right stuff? I
- 26:18Speaker 2: think of all the great Titans teams in the past,
- 26:21Speaker 2: and you could go to 10 to 15 guys and say, boy,
- 26:25Speaker 2: may not be the most talented player, but this guy's
- 26:27Speaker 2: made of the right stuff.
- 26:28Speaker 1: He's a leader.
- 26:29Speaker 2: He's in the right spot. He inspires others on the team.
- 26:32Speaker 2: You just knew from a competitive edge standpoint that, There's
- 26:35Speaker 2: a number of guys that this was a great pick.
- 26:38Speaker 2: I think of David Stewart, you know, who wasn't a
- 26:40Speaker 2: high draft pick, but like this guy's made the right
- 26:43Speaker 2: stuff when the Titans were good. That's just a short
- 26:46Speaker 2: list right now of guys you could rely on.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Well, and I think that shows where this team's been.
- 26:51Speaker 1: I mean, they have six, they have three wins in
- 26:54Speaker 1: each of the last two seasons. This is a team
- 26:55Speaker 1: that has nine wins, nine regular season wins in their
- 26:59Speaker 1: last 50 regular season games. All right. This is not
- 27:02Speaker 1: some team that's been drafting well. They had the worst
- 27:05Speaker 1: depth I've ever seen. NFL quality depth did not exist
- 27:08Speaker 1: on this team last year. It doesn't exist this year either.
- 27:12Speaker 1: If you want to see some bad play, get to
- 27:13Speaker 1: the second string offensive line. So they're still rebuilding that aspect.
- 27:19Speaker 1: They've got a right guard that's... He's got some pissed
- 27:23Speaker 1: off for greatness with them, right? But again, you mentioned J.C. Latham.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Your number one overall... selections from your draft have to
- 27:34Speaker 1: perform well. It starts with Cam Ward, but it's beyond
- 27:36Speaker 1: just Cam Ward. Um, you know, Carnell Tate, Carnell Tate in,
- 27:41Speaker 1: in normal practices has been tearing it up. He dropped
- 27:44Speaker 1: a pass last night that he's making in practice, right?
- 27:48Speaker 1: Like those are, those are plays that the Titans are
- 27:50Speaker 1: quick to put out and highlight reels. Um, we need
- 27:53Speaker 1: to see some highlight reel plays and players individually need
- 27:57Speaker 1: to step up and grab the brass ring. As I
- 27:59Speaker 1: like to say, That Jeffrey Simmons is trying to do.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Simmons is talking a lot. And he's backing it up.
- 28:07Speaker 1: He's the best three technique in the NFL.
- 28:09Speaker 2: And.
- 28:10Speaker 1: He can be a grizzly. You draft grizzlies. There need
- 28:14Speaker 1: to be others. That are on this roster. That are
- 28:17Speaker 1: willing to show up and be pissed off for greatness.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Because he lit a fire under Seattle. It wasn't the
- 28:22Speaker 1: starters either. He's like world champs. You think they're hungry.
- 28:24Speaker 1: We're starving. Is what Simmons is saying last week.
- 28:29Speaker 2: And.
- 28:29Speaker 1: He's saying that they BTA with Seattle. He's saying that
- 28:35Speaker 1: the Titans defense took care of them in their joint practice.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Maybe that's the case. Maybe not. But Simmons held his own.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Where's everyone else stepping up to that? Instead, it was
- 28:44Speaker 1: the second string that stepped up for Seattle. And all
- 28:48Speaker 1: the starters, all the world champs are on the sideline
- 28:51Speaker 1: in shorts, waving towels and going crazy over the fact
- 28:55Speaker 1: that the second team's out there BTA with the Titans.
- 28:59Speaker 2: It's embarrassing. It's one thing to go out and lose
- 29:01Speaker 2: the first stringers for the world champs. It's something you'd
- 29:03Speaker 2: expect right now where the Titans are as an organization,
- 29:06Speaker 2: but to go out there and not only lose, but
- 29:08Speaker 2: seemingly get punked and you see a more competitive spirit
- 29:13Speaker 2: from that team with their backups than you, who has,
- 29:16Speaker 2: as Jeffrey Simmons rightly said, should be starving everyone in
- 29:20Speaker 2: that locker room and everyone with that team. I thought
- 29:23Speaker 2: it was an embarrassing performance for the Titans and, and,
- 29:26Speaker 2: I'm not very hopeful about this season, having watched two
- 29:29Speaker 2: preseason games.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Chad, the first game against the Jets, must win. Yep.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Must win, because if you're Robert Sala, it has nothing
- 29:38Speaker 1: to do with coaching. against your former team, all that.
- 29:41Speaker 1: That's storyline stuff. That's WNBA storyline stuff. What this is
- 29:46Speaker 1: about is instilling and installing your culture, your identity. Because
- 29:52Speaker 1: right now they have a slogan, all gas, no brakes.
- 29:55Speaker 1: And he's doing everything he can to start this movement
- 29:59Speaker 1: towards being more of an alpha team. And there's just
- 30:03Speaker 1: a lot of players that were used to being coddled.
- 30:07Speaker 1: And that doesn't happen overnight to where you just flip
- 30:09Speaker 1: a switch and you're like, okay, now we have an identity.
- 30:13Speaker 1: But when you're playing the team in week one, that
- 30:16Speaker 1: is in the cellar with you among the worst NFL
- 30:20Speaker 1: teams over the last, however many years you want to
- 30:22Speaker 1: say the Titans are in that group too, by the way. Um,
- 30:26Speaker 1: You don't start to climb your way out of things
- 30:29Speaker 1: unless you start beating teams that are on the same
- 30:33Speaker 1: tier as you. And with week one, I think it's important, too,
- 30:39Speaker 1: that they win that game for Salah's case, for Dable's case,
- 30:43Speaker 1: for Gus Bradley's case. Because you need the locker room
- 30:47Speaker 1: to start to galvanize and follow you. I do think
- 30:49Speaker 1: they're giving a ton of effort. I think the effort
- 30:52Speaker 1: in camp, a lot of physicality in practice is Does
- 30:56Speaker 1: that carry over to week one? Does that carry over
- 30:58Speaker 1: to a victory for the Titans in a game that
- 31:01Speaker 1: they've got to have? You lose that game, you've got
- 31:05Speaker 1: the Eagles coming up next, followed by the Giants and
- 31:07Speaker 1: the Ravens. My point is, win the games you're supposed
- 31:11Speaker 1: to and get past three wins in a season. To
- 31:13Speaker 1: do that, this starts with the New York Jets in
- 31:16Speaker 1: week one.
- 31:16Speaker 2: You win that first game, Hutton, and with the Giants
- 31:18Speaker 2: being one of those next three, you feel like, hey,
- 31:21Speaker 2: this team could be 500 after four games. After that
- 31:24Speaker 2: point in the season, which would be a huge win
- 31:27Speaker 2: for this Titans organization that can't win more than three
- 31:29Speaker 2: games in a season in recent years. So yeah, I
- 31:32Speaker 2: think this first game, paramount. Yep.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Chad, plenty to discuss coming up with Deshaun Watson. Cam,
- 31:40Speaker 1: where does it work out? The Titans fans want Deshaun Watson?
- 31:42Speaker 2: No.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Browns fans don't even want him. That's straight ahead. It's
- 31:46Speaker 1: Huntley Withrow presented by Hard Rock Bet. And Chad, the
- 31:48Speaker 1: name says it all. Huntley Withrow, yes, but also... It's
- 31:52Speaker 1: not perfect eight, perfect nine. It's perfect 10 mortgage. Apply
- 31:56Speaker 1: in 10 minutes, close in 10 days. That's the whole idea.
- 31:59Speaker 1: A mortgage that's simple, fast, fair. 10 minutes, start to finish,
- 32:03Speaker 1: right from your phone. You don't have a stack of
- 32:05Speaker 1: paperwork here, thank God. And no sitting across the desk
- 32:09Speaker 1: from a banker who's talking down to you that you
- 32:11Speaker 1: need to do something about.
- 32:13Speaker 2: Yeah, you want a human, right? You'd rather talk to
- 32:15Speaker 2: a human. And you can with Perfect 10 Mortgage. Call
- 32:19Speaker 2: and you get a real loan officer, not a phone tree.
- 32:22Speaker 2: And if you're buying new construction, ask about the builder program,
- 32:25Speaker 2: builder-funded rate buy-downs that can get you a rate the
- 32:28Speaker 2: bank can't print. And if you're not ready to buy,
- 32:30Speaker 2: that's fine. Date the rate, marry the house, put that
- 32:33Speaker 2: on a T-shirt, get the house you want now, refinance
- 32:36Speaker 2: when rates come down. Straight talk on what you actually
- 32:38Speaker 2: qualify for. Built for real people, not paperwork. Perfect10Mortgage. com. or

- 32:53Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson is in line to be the starter for
- 32:57Speaker 1: the Cleveland Browns and head coach Todd Munkin, because right
- 33:01Speaker 1: now he's taking the reps ahead of Shadur Sanders, but
- 33:05Speaker 1: they're in a battle for the number one job, Shadur
- 33:07Speaker 1: Sanders and Deshaun Watson. Deshaun Watson, who Yes, has the
- 33:11Speaker 1: highest contract, most guaranteed, fully guaranteed contract of the players
- 33:15Speaker 1: in the National Football League. But, you know, Watson has
- 33:19Speaker 1: those settlements, those civil suits that he's settled in his background. And, well.
- 33:26Speaker 2: When you said he's got those settlements, you know what
- 33:28Speaker 2: it reminded me of? Kenny Powers in Eastbound and Down
- 33:32Speaker 2: when he gets in the wreck with Stevie Janowski. And
- 33:35Speaker 2: he says, I got priors. I got priors. And he
- 33:36Speaker 2: has to split on them when he wrecks the car.
- 33:38Speaker 2: I'll see you at school. Yeah. That's what Deshaun Watson
- 33:42Speaker 2: had to tell the Browns fans. I got priors.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Am I your sister? I don't know. Where are you driving?
- 33:50Speaker 2: Classic.
- 33:51Speaker 1: I don't know. Where are you driving?
- 33:53Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 33:55Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson's not going to be driving the offense much
- 33:57Speaker 1: more for the Cleveland Browns. It doesn't sound like he
- 33:59Speaker 1: wants to play football. He'd rather just take his millions
- 34:03Speaker 1: and whatever. They're fully guaranteed. But he wants everyone to
- 34:06Speaker 1: know how hurt he is that the home fans are
- 34:10Speaker 1: booing him.
- 34:13Speaker 3: Man, I didn't have no reaction. I think the biggest
- 34:15Speaker 3: thing is I think you guys know too, and I
- 34:20Speaker 3: think the whole world knows, it has nothing to do
- 34:22Speaker 3: about the performance. It's a little bit personal than that.
- 34:26Speaker 3: So I think that's a disrespectful thing. So, yeah, I mean,
- 34:32Speaker 3: I'm going to keep whatever I feel with me and
- 34:34Speaker 3: my family internally on how I feel about that. And, yeah,
- 34:38Speaker 3: just move on.
- 34:39Speaker 2: But don't you think, Deshaun, that that winning and playing
- 34:43Speaker 2: better would eliminate some of that bullying?
- 34:47Speaker 3: Last time I played on this field, I took my Achilles.
- 34:50Speaker 3: And that same fan base, they cheered when I got hurt.
- 34:55Speaker 3: So does that have to do with anything about performance?
- 35:01Speaker 3: When a person gets hurt, especially for your own city,
- 35:04Speaker 3: and they cheer.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Does any of that make you regret coming here?
- 35:10Speaker 3: No, I don't regret anything in my life. You know,
- 35:13Speaker 3: I think the Lord put me through situations for a reason,
- 35:15Speaker 3: so I don't regret anything at all. But, you know,
- 35:21Speaker 3: I had different thoughts on how it was going to be, but,
- 35:24Speaker 3: you know, it is what it is. You know, sometimes,
- 35:28Speaker 3: you know, the tables turn, and I'm patient enough because
- 35:31Speaker 3: I'm a child of God to, you know, wait for
- 35:33Speaker 3: that time to change. So I'm not tripping on it.
- 35:36Speaker 2: I'm not tripping on it.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Oh, he's tripping up, though, right there. Chad, the exact
- 35:41Speaker 1: reason why he's getting booed is because he can stand
- 35:44Speaker 1: there at a podium on the weekend of August 23rd
- 35:49Speaker 1: or 22nd, when he said this, of 2026. He can say,
- 35:55Speaker 1: I don't regret anything in my life. That is exactly
- 35:58Speaker 1: why he's getting booed. And it's not just about the Browns.
- 36:02Speaker 1: He would get booed by any fan base that would
- 36:05Speaker 1: be forced to have him as their quarterback right now.
- 36:07Speaker 1: I'm not surprised by this in the least. I'm not
- 36:10Speaker 1: into booing a guy who tears his Achilles. But, yeah,
- 36:15Speaker 1: it's more than just tearing your Achilles because they don't
- 36:17Speaker 1: like you, Deshaun. It's because they don't like what you did. Yeah,
- 36:22Speaker 1: I mean, go do something else if you're so butthurt
- 36:26Speaker 1: over the fact that the fan base is booing you
- 36:28Speaker 1: because it's not about performance. It is about performance, by
- 36:30Speaker 1: the way. It is about performance. Chad, I'll let you
- 36:35Speaker 1: chime in in just a second. Let me compare it
- 36:36Speaker 1: to one player, Pac-Man Jones. Pac-Man Jones was involved in
- 36:42Speaker 1: a suspension, a year-long suspension here in Nashville. There was
- 36:46Speaker 1: a triple shooting out in Las Vegas where Urbanski, I believe,
- 36:51Speaker 1: is the guy's last name. Tom Urbanski is the guy's name.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Tom Urbanski, you nailed it. One of the strip club
- 36:58Speaker 1: owners or managers paralyzed from the waist down Pac-Man ended
- 37:02Speaker 1: up even having to pay a huge settlement, a fine,
- 37:06Speaker 1: in all of this when it's all said and done.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Guess who cheered him upon a punt return for a touchdown?
- 37:13Speaker 1: The Tennessee Titans fans at Nissan Stadium, or at the time,
- 37:16Speaker 1: LP Field. So you go out and perform well, fans
- 37:20Speaker 1: will cheer. But when you give them nothing to cheer about,
- 37:25Speaker 1: you represent what they don't like. And Deshaun Watson represents
- 37:29Speaker 1: what fans don't like right now.
- 37:32Speaker 2: Well, I think there's no more fitting of a visual
- 37:36Speaker 2: than Deshaun Watson messing with his probably $ 100, 000 earrings or
- 37:41Speaker 2: more as he's answering the question and putting that diamond
- 37:45Speaker 2: in where everyone can see it. Because, Hutton, it's not
- 37:48Speaker 2: just about the performance, right? It's not just about the
- 37:50Speaker 2: off-field stuff. It's not just about booing someone. You're not
- 37:55Speaker 2: celebrating that, boy, I'm glad that they're injured or they're
- 37:58Speaker 2: in pain. It's a combination of everything, right? And it's
- 38:02Speaker 2: also starving fan base that desperately wants success. You've got
- 38:07Speaker 2: an owner in Jimmy Haslam who gave that dude the
- 38:10Speaker 2: first ever guaranteed, fully guaranteed contract. So Deshaun Watson, in
- 38:15Speaker 2: a way, set back the quarterback market in terms of
- 38:18Speaker 2: getting that guaranteed contract again because it's been so wildly
- 38:23Speaker 2: unsuccessful with him in Cleveland. So that's a factor in it.
- 38:26Speaker 2: All the guaranteed money, everything else. It's a combination of everything.
- 38:30Speaker 1: He's been awful.
- 38:31Speaker 2: And Deshaun Watson understands it deep down. It would be
- 38:35Speaker 2: hard for any human being to admit, hey, I'm at
- 38:39Speaker 2: fault here with a lot of this too, right? Like
- 38:41Speaker 2: I completely understand why they're mad at me. I'm mad
- 38:43Speaker 2: at myself, this and that. Instead, the human response is
- 38:47Speaker 2: you just turn it to, well, they just don't like me.
- 38:49Speaker 2: It's a personal thing. And this town, for whatever reason,
- 38:52Speaker 2: I can give you a thousand of them, but for
- 38:54Speaker 2: whatever reason, they just don't like me. That's the response
- 38:57Speaker 2: from Deshaun Watson when in reality, Hutton, and you laid
- 38:59Speaker 2: it out, we all know why the Cleveland Browns fan
- 39:02Speaker 2: base doesn't like Deshaun Watson. They wanted to hope against
- 39:05Speaker 2: hope that, hey, please be our savior. You know, they
- 39:08Speaker 2: were willing that they were defending everything after the signing, right?
- 39:12Speaker 2: They were willing to turn themselves over to Deshaun Watson
- 39:16Speaker 2: in the hopes and prayers that he could be their deliverer.
- 39:21Speaker 2: from all that has been bad with that organization. He's
- 39:23Speaker 2: been far from that. He's in a battle with Shador Sanders,
- 39:26Speaker 2: the starting quarterback right now. So he's going to get booed.
- 39:30Speaker 2: And instead of Deshaun Watson just standing up there and saying, yeah,
- 39:33Speaker 2: I get it. I know exactly why they're booing me.
- 39:35Speaker 2: Let's move on to the next question.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Yeah, because you get, what, 20, was it 24 massage
- 39:41Speaker 1: therapists saying that you try to get a hand job
- 39:44Speaker 1: from them every time you get a massage? Yeah, that's why.
- 39:51Speaker 1: if you're Todd Munkin, if you're the Cleveland Browns, how
- 39:54Speaker 1: do you start this guy? How do you make him
- 39:58Speaker 1: the starting quarterback of your franchise? You can't. This is
- 40:02Speaker 1: Shador Sanders' job now. After comments to that fan base?
- 40:08Speaker 2: Isn't it crazy how we're sitting here talking about Deshaun Watson,
- 40:13Speaker 2: who's been in the NFL for a long time now
- 40:16Speaker 2: and has had success with the Houston Texans, and the
- 40:20Speaker 2: fact that we're having to sit here, and you're right,
- 40:22Speaker 2: and say, how do you start this guy? How do
- 40:25Speaker 2: you start this guy with all this experience, who's had
- 40:27Speaker 2: success with the Houston Texans and everything else, and knowing
- 40:29Speaker 2: the thoughts about Shador Sanders and his maturity? He's going
- 40:33Speaker 2: after your fan base. But yes, I'm with you. We're
- 40:37Speaker 2: all sitting here saying, you've got to go with Shador Sanders.
- 40:40Speaker 2: You've got to go with Shador Sanders. The fact that
- 40:41Speaker 2: we're even having that discussion tells you, you've got to
- 40:44Speaker 2: go with Shador Sanders. And it really does put Todd
- 40:47Speaker 2: Munkin in a weird spot. with him saying all these
- 40:50Speaker 2: things because even if he was the best option right now,
- 40:54Speaker 2: Deshaun Watson makes it so difficult to trust him or
- 40:58Speaker 2: put him in there or hand him over to a
- 41:00Speaker 2: city and a fan base and say, hey, Browns fans, 2026,
- 41:04Speaker 2: fired up. Here's your guy. Here's our leader, Deshaun Watson.
- 41:09Speaker 3: Boom.
- 41:11Speaker 2: That's going to be the response.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Because if you think about it, man, the boots are
- 41:14Speaker 1: only going to get louder now. He's calling them out.
- 41:17Speaker 1: And if you just turn around and name him the starter,
- 41:21Speaker 1: the fan base turns on you. Right? That's a slap
- 41:26Speaker 1: in the face to your fans if you then turn
- 41:28Speaker 1: around and do that. Because, look, the organization knows what
- 41:35Speaker 1: a mess this is. You know, it's not like they
- 41:39Speaker 1: have a blind eye to it. Or it's not like
- 41:42Speaker 1: the organization doesn't feel the same way.
- 41:44Speaker 2: They're just trapped by the contract. Hutton, the chat, YouTube chat,
- 41:48Speaker 2: hit us up there. Watch us on YouTube, Hutton Withrow.
- 41:51Speaker 2: Chat's starting to cook right now. Catfish Jake, going back
- 41:53Speaker 2: to our discussion about the Titans, says it's time to
- 41:56Speaker 2: start the, quote, death march for Arch. Talk for the Titans.
- 42:03Speaker 2: I don't know if that's been bandied about by anyone else.
- 42:06Speaker 2: I'm going to give Catfish Jake credit for it because
- 42:07Speaker 2: it's the first time I've seen it. But we're stealing
- 42:10Speaker 2: that now. If the Titans start 0-4, or heck, Hutton,
- 42:13Speaker 2: if the Titans start 0-1 after losing the New York Jets...
- 42:16Speaker 2: We will begin talk on this show, and we'll credit
- 42:19Speaker 2: Catfish Jake, credit where credit is due. We will discuss
- 42:22Speaker 2: the Death March for Arch. That's going to be coming up.
- 42:26Speaker 1: Catfish Jake's going to be at the Fantasy Football League,
- 42:28Speaker 1: by the way.
- 42:29Speaker 2: That's great. It's happening. Hutton's going to be the commissioner.
- 42:32Speaker 2: Thank you, Hutton, for taking the reins of commissioning the show.
- 42:34Speaker 2: We have the league created.
- 42:36Speaker 1: You can join the chat and make your case for
- 42:37Speaker 1: why you want to be at the Fantasy Football League
- 42:39Speaker 1: for Hutton to withdraw as well. We've got, I believe,
- 42:42Speaker 1: 11 spots available. Ten spots available now?
- 42:47Speaker 2: Are we going to ask anyone who works with us
- 42:49Speaker 2: is the question? Or are we just going to wait
- 42:51Speaker 2: to see how much we like them by the end
- 42:52Speaker 2: of this week?
- 42:53Speaker 1: I think I've already factored them in. I think I've
- 42:55Speaker 1: already factored them in.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Okay, good. They're already factored in. Have they said yes?
- 42:59Speaker 1: No, but I just assume we're telling them.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Is JT going to be a part of this?
- 43:03Speaker 1: I just assume they're being told, Chad. JT's like, do
- 43:06Speaker 1: they have a choice?
- 43:07Speaker 2: I probably have a kid's softball game to be at
- 43:09Speaker 2: that night and can't do it, is what he's thinking. JT,
- 43:11Speaker 2: are you interested in our fantasy football league at all? No,
- 43:14Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Let's leave a spot open for somebody else. Well, JT, congratulations.
- 43:20Speaker 1: You are in the fantasy football league. That's right. That's
- 43:22Speaker 1: all we needed to hear.
- 43:23Speaker 2: No interest at all.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Boom.
- 43:25Speaker 2: You're our third member of the fantasy football league.
- 43:27Speaker 1: How was your weekend, JT?
- 43:28Speaker 5: It was great, except having to watch the Tennessee Titans
- 43:31Speaker 5: celebrate across the field after an interception on a guy
- 43:34Speaker 5: that's thrown two and act like it's Christmas Day.
- 43:38Speaker 1: It was wonderful.
- 43:41Speaker 2: The muff punt... early in the game too, for the Seahawks,
- 43:45Speaker 2: like the first bright spot for the Titans, they're down
- 43:47Speaker 2: 16 to three or whatever at that time. And the
- 43:49Speaker 2: celebration where they sprint all the way across the field
- 43:52Speaker 2: after picking up the muff punt, like they actually did
- 43:54Speaker 2: something that was also.
- 43:55Speaker 1: So the reason, so the reason for that is whenever
- 43:59Speaker 1: the Seahawks had their second touchdown, you know, where the
- 44:02Speaker 1: guy just ran through the middle of the heart of
- 44:03Speaker 1: the defense and scored, uh, like a 60 yard touchdown
- 44:08Speaker 1: run or whatever. The entire bench, the entire starting lineup
- 44:12Speaker 1: for the Seahawks came off the bench into the end
- 44:14Speaker 1: zone to celebrate. And they're waving towels and talking trash.
- 44:20Speaker 1: So they took a penalty for that. They ended up
- 44:22Speaker 1: missing the extra point. Took a penalty for that. So
- 44:25Speaker 1: then that started. But keep in mind, the Titans starters
- 44:28Speaker 1: were on the field that gave up that play. So
- 44:32Speaker 1: I guess because they started to take the lead, the
- 44:35Speaker 1: Titans starters were like, oh, we're going to talk our
- 44:36Speaker 1: trash now. We're going to act like the defending Super
- 44:39Speaker 1: Bowl champs. So, JT, that's why they were celebrating. But
- 44:42Speaker 1: I'm with you, man. I would say act like you've
- 44:45Speaker 1: been there before. This team hasn't. This team has not.
- 44:49Speaker 1: This was their national game. Their national spotlight game. Excuse me.
- 44:54Speaker 1: Their national spotlight game was this game. So, you know what?
- 44:57Speaker 1: They're going to make sure everyone knows. Remember the night
- 45:00Speaker 1: you played the Titans.
- 45:01Speaker 2: A couple things also on top of that. JT's right.
- 45:03Speaker 2: Stop with the celebration on that. Also, stop with the
- 45:06Speaker 2: fighting and the chirping on the sideline on a kickoff
- 45:08Speaker 2: return with all the starters for the Seahawks, who that's
- 45:11Speaker 2: all they want is to rile you up, and you're
- 45:13Speaker 2: giving in to them early in the game when you
- 45:15Speaker 2: do that. The other thing is Julian Edelman and Carissa
- 45:18Speaker 2: Thompson provided a pregame and halftime show from field level
- 45:22Speaker 2: for Fox. Julian Edelman, tell me you know nothing about
- 45:25Speaker 2: Nashville without telling me you know nothing about Nashville. When
- 45:28Speaker 2: you try to drop in a joke, are you ready
- 45:30Speaker 2: to go over to Broadway Street and hang out during
- 45:34Speaker 2: the game? He said, I'm just ready to get to
- 45:36Speaker 2: Broadway Street. And I'm thinking, I was in the elevator.
- 45:39Speaker 1: I was in the elevator with Jules last night. Dude,
- 45:44Speaker 1: let me tell you, man, that guy may not know
- 45:46Speaker 1: the name of the street, but he could do some
- 45:51Speaker 1: damage on Broadway.
- 45:53Speaker 2: There's no doubt. I feel like that guy's always like
- 45:56Speaker 2: 10 seconds away from a Jaeger bomb. Whenever he's on
- 46:00Speaker 2: air doing anything, I'm like, if you poured this guy
- 46:02Speaker 2: a vodka Red Bull right now, he would down it
- 46:05Speaker 2: in front of you.
- 46:06Speaker 1: He had been in Nashville since Friday. He was at
- 46:09Speaker 1: the joint practice. And he hasn't been to Broadway yet.
- 46:13Speaker 1: He said he's never been to Broadway. I found that
- 46:15Speaker 1: hard to believe, Chad, that Julian Edelman had been in
- 46:18Speaker 1: Nashville since Friday.
- 46:20Speaker 2: I have no doubt that he's probably been to other spots,
- 46:23Speaker 2: better spots in Nashville. But when you refer to it
- 46:25Speaker 2: as Broadway Street, he sounds like a guy who's never
- 46:27Speaker 2: been to Broadway.
- 46:28Speaker 1: You know that guy. Had Gronk been with him, they'd
- 46:30Speaker 1: been on Broadway. Maybe that's it. Maybe that's the difference.
- 46:34Speaker 1: But you don't think he went to like 1230 Club?
- 46:36Speaker 1: Pushing Daisies? I don't know.
- 46:39Speaker 2: I feel like they're probably even more exclusive than that.
- 46:42Speaker 2: But yeah, if it's Gronk, I think he's definitely... You
- 46:45Speaker 2: can find exclusive, but if you want to find... He's
- 46:48Speaker 2: doing a group shot of some sort at Jason Aldean's
- 46:51Speaker 2: or someplace like that.
- 46:52Speaker 1: If you want to find Bachelorettes, you go to Broadway Street.
- 46:56Speaker 2: Broadway Street. Broadway Street.
- 47:01Speaker 1: Oh, we're not done with the Browns yet. Oh, no.
- 47:03Speaker 1: Todd Munkin. No, no, no, no. He's getting phone calls
- 47:06Speaker 1: now from college coaches about current Browns players. Not Deshaun Watson,
- 47:12Speaker 1: but players that are going to have a fully executed
- 47:15Speaker 1: contract for college football. If they clear waivers. That's straight
- 47:18Speaker 1: ahead here on Hot Mike. Accidents do not wait for
- 47:22Speaker 1: a good time. One bad moment, a wreck, a fall,
- 47:26Speaker 1: a doctor who wasn't paying attention. Suddenly you're fighting an
- 47:28Speaker 1: insurance company that does this every single day. And that's
- 47:31Speaker 1: why Clay started Clay Travis Law. He's a Vanderbilt Law grad.
- 47:36Speaker 1: He built a firm around one idea. People deserve someone
- 47:39Speaker 1: willing to pay attention, ask the hard questions, and push
- 47:43Speaker 1: back when things don't add up. experienced trial attorneys who
- 47:47Speaker 1: bring the fight to corporations and insurers. It's based in Nashville,
- 47:52Speaker 1: trusted across the country. Chad, it's Clay Travis Law.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Yes, and for car and truck wrecks, rideshare accidents, medical malpractice,
- 48:00Speaker 2: premises liability, product liability, if you were wrong, they want
- 48:03Speaker 2: to hear about it.
- 48:04Speaker 1: Here's what they promise.
- 48:05Speaker 2: Honesty. Don't we all want that? They don't sugarcoat your case.
- 48:08Speaker 2: You'll hear what it's actually worth, not what you want
- 48:11Speaker 2: to hear. The case evaluation is free, no charge, no pressure,
- 48:14Speaker 2: no hassle. Just tell them your story. Go to claytravislaw.com
- 48:18Speaker 2: or call 877-222-4444. That's claytravislaw.com. No case is too big
- 48:26Speaker 2: or too small.
- 48:28Speaker 1: Chad, so by the way, welcome back to Hunting With Row.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Not the other show that I mentioned. Hunting With Row,
- 48:32Speaker 1: we are presented by..
- 48:35Speaker 2: We'll cut that in post. Don't worry.
- 48:37Speaker 1: Presented by Hard Rock Bet. Hard Rock Bet is our
- 48:41Speaker 1: sponsor here. We love having them a part of the show. Chad,
- 48:44Speaker 1: so Todd Munkin is getting calls about his team and
- 48:50Speaker 1: his players from college coaches, from Lane Trade?
- 48:56Speaker 2: This is so absurd. It's funny, the whole thing. So
- 49:00Speaker 2: Todd Munkin was asked about the whole Daquan Wright saga,
- 49:04Speaker 2: which we did learn yesterday, and we're going to get
- 49:06Speaker 2: into this. Daquan Wright, he's cut. He's officially going back.
- 49:10Speaker 2: He wanted to get cut. Because he's going to go
- 49:12Speaker 2: back and make more money to play another year at LSU,
- 49:14Speaker 2: where he played for Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss. Now
- 49:17Speaker 2: he's going to go play for Lane Kiffin at LSU.
- 49:20Speaker 2: But when we found out about Lane Kiffin calling Todd Munkin,
- 49:25Speaker 2: maybe to give him a heads up or say, hey, man,
- 49:27Speaker 2: if you're thinking about cutting this dude, do it now
- 49:29Speaker 2: so he can get down here for fall camp with
- 49:32Speaker 2: the Bayou Bengals. Well, we found out because Todd Munkin
- 49:35Speaker 2: was asked about the whole situation. basically said, isn't this
- 49:38Speaker 2: whole situation crazy? And that he was going to– that
- 49:43Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin actually called him, and I guess he should
- 49:46Speaker 2: have returned the call.
- 49:47Speaker 1: Should have taken the call.
- 49:47Speaker 2: Because he didn't. Lane Kiffin called and gave him a
- 49:49Speaker 2: heads up. So, look, I think people everywhere is like, man,
- 49:53Speaker 2: this is nuts. You know, you had a year ago
- 49:55Speaker 2: where Charles Badiaco went from the G League to Alabama midseason.
- 49:59Speaker 2: It was a midseason pickup because Alabama had some front-line
- 50:02Speaker 2: injuries in basketball, right? And everybody said, okay, this is bad.
- 50:05Speaker 2: Nate Oates is a villain for this. But Alabama defended it. Hey,
- 50:09Speaker 2: kid wasn't doing well in the G League. We want
- 50:12Speaker 2: to give him a chance. We're all about the kid
- 50:13Speaker 2: and the individual. The problem is he's not a kid.
- 50:16Speaker 2: He's been playing pro basketball for two years at that point.
- 50:19Speaker 2: Daquan Wright has not been playing pro football for two years.
- 50:22Speaker 2: But he did leave and join an NFL roster. And
- 50:26Speaker 2: he's in a training camp. And he wants to go
- 50:29Speaker 2: back because he was granted a fifth year of eligibility
- 50:32Speaker 2: by an injunction from a court. in something that he
- 50:36Speaker 2: filed with some other athletes.
- 50:37Speaker 1: But if he pays back the money, Chad, does he
- 50:40Speaker 1: get suspended for two games, three games?
- 50:43Speaker 2: No, he's not getting suspended at all because apparently he's
- 50:47Speaker 2: just immediately eligible based on this court ruling and the NCAA.
- 50:52Speaker 1: You could be eligible to play, but you still have
- 50:54Speaker 1: to play within the guidelines. So I'm saying like Arian
- 50:57Speaker 1: Carter is eligible to play, but he's suspended.
- 51:02Speaker 2: I don't think he's going to be suspended at all.
- 51:05Speaker 2: And here's why. The argument is from this class of 2022. Yes,
- 51:11Speaker 2: class of 2022 is that we were fighting for a
- 51:15Speaker 2: fifth year when you were in between granting a fifth
- 51:18Speaker 2: year anyway, which is now the case with the next class.
- 51:21Speaker 2: So we were arguing it's going to happen. It's happened now.
- 51:24Speaker 2: We should be eligible to do it. They got one
- 51:27Speaker 2: court to rule in their favor saying, yeah, you have
- 51:29Speaker 2: an argument here. You need a fifth year. So everything
- 51:32Speaker 2: they've done now, taking checks from NFL teams, flying on
- 51:35Speaker 2: their planes, everything.
- 51:37Speaker 1: Else is null and void.
- 51:39Speaker 2: It's null and void, right? Arion Carter's not arguing I
- 51:42Speaker 2: want a fifth year of eligibility. He only played three
- 51:44Speaker 2: years at Tennessee. He entered the draft early and then
- 51:47Speaker 2: came back out of the draft.
- 51:48Speaker 1: So they don't have to pay back anything.
- 51:49Speaker 2: They don't have to pay back a dime. They made
- 51:52Speaker 2: all that money, and they're going to be back. But
- 51:55Speaker 2: this is what's insane about the whole process. You've got
- 51:57Speaker 2: a two-game suspension for Arion Carter. who simply decided, hey,
- 52:01Speaker 2: I'm going to go through the early part of the process.
- 52:04Speaker 1: 400.
- 52:05Speaker 2: He got info back about his injury, and he paid
- 52:07Speaker 2: an agent, but he paid the agent back for the flight,
- 52:10Speaker 2: and he's got to sit two games. None of it
- 52:12Speaker 2: makes any sense. None of it's right. And Hutton, the
- 52:15Speaker 2: fact that it's Lane Kiffin at the center of all this,
- 52:17Speaker 2: I think is a big part of the storyline. It
- 52:19Speaker 2: could have been anybody. I'm not saying Lane's the only
- 52:22Speaker 2: one who had this idea, but look at the amount
- 52:25Speaker 2: of Ole Miss players in that lawsuit. And tell me
- 52:28Speaker 2: that Lane Kiffin isn't the one behind this the most.
- 52:31Speaker 2: He's the one that's going to make history, right? He's
- 52:34Speaker 2: the one that's going to start this. Adam Schefter's tweet
- 52:37Speaker 2: said history to start it. Daquan Wright will become the
- 52:41Speaker 2: first NFL player to go back to college and play
- 52:44Speaker 2: college football.
- 52:45Speaker 1: History. History in the making. As the WWE say, herstory, herstory.
- 52:51Speaker 2: Just like Enos Cantor being the first man, full man,
- 52:55Speaker 2: to play in the WNBA.
- 52:56Speaker 1: History.
- 52:57Speaker 5: History.
- 52:57Speaker 2: Do you think Adam Schefter? History. Do you think Shams
- 53:00Speaker 2: Charania is going to post? History. Enos Cantor as the
- 53:03Speaker 2: number one pick of the Seattle Storm will make history.
- 53:07Speaker 1: History. History.
- 53:09Speaker 2: As the first person with both testicles to play and
- 53:13Speaker 2: star for a WNBA team. Maybe a Nashville ball future
- 53:17Speaker 2: for Enos Cantor. But it's comical that Lane Kiffin is
- 53:21Speaker 2: behind this, because everything Lane Kiffin does seems to be unprecedented.
- 53:24Speaker 2: The way he handled the Ole Miss exit to LSU, unprecedented.
- 53:28Speaker 2: The way he handled Al Davis with the Raiders, unprecedented.
- 53:32Speaker 2: The way he called an impromptu weird press conference in
- 53:36Speaker 2: Knoxville when he left late in the game after Pete
- 53:39Speaker 2: Carroll left for the Seattle Seahawks, unprecedented. The dude seems
- 53:43Speaker 2: to have a track record of doing the craziest possible
- 53:47Speaker 2: thing And now the craziest possible thing is, hey, you
- 53:50Speaker 2: know what we're going to go recruit? We're not going
- 53:52Speaker 2: to go recruit in Duluth, Georgia. We're going to go
- 53:54Speaker 2: recruit NFL training camps for people with fifth year of eligibility.
- 53:58Speaker 2: And that's exactly what he's done.
- 54:00Speaker 1: And he's the first. And you know this, man. Kiffin
- 54:03Speaker 1: won't be the first, nor the last, nor the last.
- 54:05Speaker 1: You're going to have coaching staffs now. The final week
- 54:11Speaker 1: of the preseason is coming up right now. You think
- 54:13Speaker 1: they're not going to have all the GMs across college
- 54:15Speaker 1: football aren't scouring these NFL rosters to see who's undrafted
- 54:22Speaker 1: and who may be cut and who's clearing waivers? Who's
- 54:25Speaker 1: not going to be on a practice squad to see
- 54:28Speaker 1: who can jump back into the mix? Chad, you guys.
- 54:32Speaker 2: Have Dan Lanning. Let me also say this about it too, Hutton,
- 54:36Speaker 2: and we'll get to Dan Lanning for sure. There will
- 54:40Speaker 2: be a thought amongst fan bases that if we don't
- 54:43Speaker 2: do this, I'm seeing we as whatever fan base you are,
- 54:46Speaker 2: especially in the SEC or Big Ten, where every week
- 54:49Speaker 2: is a war with the games that you're going to
- 54:51Speaker 2: be playing, that we're not doing everything it takes to win.
- 54:55Speaker 2: That if we don't try to bring someone back and
- 54:57Speaker 2: kick someone else off that's not going to play for
- 54:59Speaker 2: a 23-year-old or 24-year-old that can help us right away,
- 55:02Speaker 2: we're not doing what it takes to win.
- 55:04Speaker 1: Because that is what it takes to win now.
- 55:06Speaker 2: Dan Lanning... offers the flip side of this, which gives
- 55:10Speaker 2: another bit of evidence as to why we love Dan Lanning.
- 55:12Speaker 1: Okay, Davo.
- 55:13Speaker 2: Because of the way he thinks about this story. Here's
- 55:16Speaker 2: Dan Lanning.
- 55:17Speaker 4: I mean, I think there's a lot of negatives that
- 55:19Speaker 4: are involved around this. One, once you go to the NFL,
- 55:22Speaker 4: to me, you're in the NFL. You don't get the
- 55:23Speaker 4: opportunity to come back. Two, you know, most of us
- 55:26Speaker 4: have built our rosters, and you have a limited roster
- 55:28Speaker 4: limit now. So if you invited somebody back to your team,
- 55:30Speaker 4: that means you're kicking somebody else off your team, right,
- 55:33Speaker 4: to match your roster limits. I don't think that's fair
- 55:35Speaker 4: to the players that.
- 55:35Speaker 1: Worked all summer, all spring.
- 55:37Speaker 4: And put themselves in position to be ready to work
- 55:39Speaker 4: for a team, you know, to have somebody come back.
- 55:42Speaker 4: But ultimately, you know, it used to be once you
- 55:44Speaker 4: had an agent or once you went and did the
- 55:46Speaker 4: combine or once you went to many. I mean, all
- 55:48Speaker 4: those things qualified as you are no longer an amateur.
- 55:51Speaker 4: You're a professional now once you declare for the draft.
- 55:53Speaker 4: So to let any of those players come back, you know,
- 55:56Speaker 4: fair or unfair to them, it's unfair to the sport.
- 55:58Speaker 4: And I think it's unfair to the players that are
- 55:59Speaker 4: on current teams, you know, for those guys to be
- 56:01Speaker 4: coming back.
- 56:02Speaker 1: Chad, this works, though, whenever you're a coach and you're
- 56:06Speaker 1: bringing 80 new players in because it's your first year,
- 56:09Speaker 1: and the guy that you're bringing in from the NFL
- 56:12Speaker 1: just so happened to play at the previous university you
- 56:15Speaker 1: were coaching at. And if you keep a roster spot
- 56:18Speaker 1: open with the idea that, oh, this guy wants to
- 56:20Speaker 1: come back to play college football because there's a loophole
- 56:23Speaker 1: because of the 2022 season, that's why it works. He's
- 56:25Speaker 1: not necessarily taking a roster spot from anyone at LSU.
- 56:29Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin kept one open.
- 56:31Speaker 2: He was ready for this contingency. I quoted General Nealon
- 56:35Speaker 2: last week as saying, I prepared my men for every
- 56:38Speaker 2: possible contingency, so all I could do was sit back
- 56:41Speaker 2: and watch them perform. Lane Kiffin definitely prepared for this
- 56:43Speaker 2: contingency with all the Ole Miss guys that were in
- 56:46Speaker 2: that lawsuit that could possibly come back and play. But
- 56:49Speaker 2: I still must give respect to Dan Lanning. And again,
- 56:53Speaker 2: Dan Lanning might come back in a year and say, hey,
- 56:55Speaker 2: this rule's for me now. Or he might come back
- 56:57Speaker 2: in a week and say, this guy wants to come back,
- 56:59Speaker 2: I'm going to do it. And we're going to sit
- 57:00Speaker 2: here and laugh at the hypocrisy of Dan Lanning also.
- 57:03Speaker 2: I don't think he'll do that. I think he's being
- 57:05Speaker 2: legitimate about it. What is the message you send your team?
- 57:09Speaker 2: But also, I think with Lane Kiffin, Hutton, and this
- 57:11Speaker 2: is a question at all times with him, what does
- 57:14Speaker 2: it matter in terms of attracting the next talent? Like,
- 57:17Speaker 2: is there a parent that is legitimately like, you know,
- 57:19Speaker 2: I saw how you handled that situation by kicking off
- 57:22Speaker 2: five of your current players or revoking their scholarship or
- 57:26Speaker 2: putting them off to the side for guys that were
- 57:28Speaker 2: in the NFL to come back. And I don't like
- 57:30Speaker 2: how you handle that as the parent of my son
- 57:32Speaker 2: who might go and play for you. There may be
- 57:34Speaker 2: someone out there like that, but for the most people
- 57:37Speaker 2: and prospects, it's going to be, can I play? Can
- 57:41Speaker 2: I get to the NFL? How much money are you
- 57:43Speaker 2: going to pay me? They're not asking Lane Kiffin about
- 57:46Speaker 2: any of his past or how he's dealt with previous
- 57:49Speaker 2: roster decisions. They don't care. And I think this will
- 57:51Speaker 2: be another story like that where they won't care. I
- 57:53Speaker 2: like that Dan Lanning cares. I feel like Dan Lanning
- 57:56Speaker 2: is building a program or has built one at Oregon
- 57:59Speaker 2: and where he does care about things like that. He
- 58:02Speaker 2: does care about the attitude and the morale of the
- 58:04Speaker 2: locker room and how they feel connected. And kudos to
- 58:08Speaker 2: Dan Lanning for doing that.
- 58:10Speaker 1: There are two first names that are last names on
- 58:13Speaker 1: the jersey in the SEC. Quarterbacks who have been named
- 58:17Speaker 1: starting quarterbacks at some big-time universities and football programs. Russell
- 58:23Speaker 1: and Brandon. That's next. Harold Hutton-Withrow. King of the Wild Frontier.
- 58:27Speaker 1: That's Davey Crockett. David Crockett. Crockett Coffee. Started by Clay Travis,
- 58:34Speaker 1: Buck Sexton, and Buck's brother Mason. Named after Davy Crockett. Hunter, storyteller, patriot,
- 58:39Speaker 1: backwoods legend. Look at the logo. Look at this logo.

- 59:40Speaker 1: CrockettCoffee.com.
- 59:41Speaker 2: That's Crockett, C-R-O-C-K-E-T-T, coffee.com. I'm drinking some right now this morning, Hutton.
- 59:50Speaker 2: It is glorious. Taste of America.
- 59:54Speaker 1: That's right. David damn Crockett. David Crockett. Chad, there's a
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: Brandon who will be the last name on the back
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: of a jersey for Tennessee. Not Crockett, but Brandon. Tell
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: me about the freshman that has won the job.
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: Hutton, are we fortune tellers? Because, you know, we're planning
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: out the last night, today's show, and we said, you know,
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: we're going to get to this at some point with
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: Keelan Russell being named the starter at Alabama. And we
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: believe Faison Brandon will be the starter or name the
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: starter at some point on Monday for the University of Tennessee.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: And five minutes before this happened, Brooks Carter from our
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: staff sends a text, says, guys, Faison Brandon officially named
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: the starter at Tennessee. This according to the reporting of
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: Pete Nacos and Chris Lowe at On3 Sports. Reporting of
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: Cat Withrow, too. No surprise, yeah. And also just me
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: reading and listening to people I really trust in Knoxville,
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: people like Brent Buggs.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: Chad, let me jump in because I want to give
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: you some credit here.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: Jump in while I sneeze, yes.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: Because you said, well, last week at some point, I'm
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: trying to think of the day, you're like, hey, look,
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: it's going to be Faison Brandon. This feels like a
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: George McIntyre spot where they were giving him a lot
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: of praise all of a sudden, but it's still... Brandon,
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: who's going to be the starter. And it turns out,
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: less than a week later, that's exactly what happened.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: Well, and I heard from someone at the scrimmage.
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: I'm not going to reveal who it was, obviously. But
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: at the scrimmage on Saturday, the moment it ended, he
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: texted me and said, Faison Brandon's the starter after the scrimmage.
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: There's no doubt. He connected with Mike Matthews on a
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: long touchdown. I think it was negated by a penalty.
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: But he looked a little smoother. George McIntyre has looked
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: good this fall camp. It's no big knock on him.
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: The one thing with McIntyre is he's late at times
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: with the football. He's not as mobile, but he threw
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: a pick six. He's more mobile than he's given credit for.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: He's not as mobile as Faison Brandon, but he also
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: threw a pick six at one point in the scrimmage.
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: He's just late with the ball, and Faison Brandon, for
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: a true freshman, has been more on time with the
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: football in this very timing-centric offense. It's not just timing-centric.
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: It's You've got to be on the same page as
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: the receivers. A lot of option routes, right? There's a
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: lot of the defense is doing this, so my receiver's
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: doing that. And I better know what they're doing. We
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: better be on the same page. I think it was
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: important to get this decision out of the way today
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: because now starts the mock game week for Tennessee as
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: they get ready for their first game of the year
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: against Furman. You want to get all the first-team reps,
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: whoever it is. Faison Brandon will get that now with
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: the first team. I don't think it's going to matter
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: against Furman. It's going to matter against Georgia Tech. in
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: week two who your starting quarterback is. So you want
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: to get all those first-team reps right now. Seems like
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: the right decision for Josh Heupelhut. And I think if
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: there's any doubt about the older player versus the younger player,
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: you go with the player with a higher ceiling. And
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: it looks like Faison Brandon is that player for Tennessee.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: And there's not that much difference. It's not like an
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: upperclassman going against a younger player here.
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: The flip side of this is a great example. Upperclassman
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: in Austin Mack. Redshirt, freshman, and Keylon Russell at Alabama, right?
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: Mack is the guy who knows Ryan Grubb and Kalen
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: DeBoer's offensive system better. He's repped it more. But then
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: you have Keylon Russell, who the ceiling is sky high
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: for this guy. He's the better runner also, much like
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: Faison Brandon gives them a different element. Keylon Russell is
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: the highest rated quarterback in the history of Alabama football
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: out of high school. Okay, I think he was the
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: number two quarterback, number one or number two quarterback in America.
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: Faison Brandon was a top three or four quarterback in
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: his class, also a year after Keelan Russell. So Tennessee
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: and Alabama this year, to me, Hutton, both feel like
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: possible back end of the playoffs spoilers. They could be,
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: especially Tennessee. I think Alabama may be a little less
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: surprising to some.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: Tennessee is as good as we've seen, except for the question,
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: an unknown quarterback, right?
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: Alabama's schedule gets tough late, but they should start 5-0
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: before they play Georgia. Okay, they're going to get off
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: to a good start this year, I feel like. Tennessee,
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: their schedule is a little more balanced in terms of
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: they get Texas early. You know, they go to Georgia Tech.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: They get some tough games early in the season. But, yeah,
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: it just feels– now look at both these teams and
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: I think, what if these guys– it's such a– not
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: make or break, feast or famine type decision for both
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: Kalen DeBoer and Josh Heupel. I mean, Tennessee could be
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: sitting there after a few weeks and you're thinking, boy,
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: they've really knocked it out of the park with this
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: Faison Brandon guy. This is going to be insane. And oh,
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: by the way, did you see those DGG highlights from
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: his game against Brentwood Academy? He's going to join the
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: fray next year. Same goes for Alabama. All these questions
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: about Kalen DeBoer, they could start Keelan Russell. He looks
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: great early in the season. Everyone's saying, boy, this Alabama
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: program is one to watch, not just now, but for
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: the next two or three years. Very fascinating. Both of
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: these teams, to watch them early on to see what
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: these quarterbacks look like, I'm highly intrigued. But again, Faison
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: Brandon is the guy, is the starter, not a huge surprise.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: And now I think the challenge of any coach, Kalen DeBoer,
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: Josh Heupel included, you better keep Austin Mack and George
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: McIntyre engaged. You don't want one of those guys completely
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: checking out because they're going to play. George McIntyre is
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: going to play against Furman. If Faison Brandon gets dinged up,
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: George McIntyre is then going to be the guy to
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: Same goes for Alabama. And, Hutton, you know in today's
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: open transfer portal that it's a lot easier for guys
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: who don't win the job to mentally check out and
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: call their agent and say, hey, start looking out at 2027.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: Who needs a starter?
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: Who wants me?
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: Where can I go and play? Yep. Yep. Yep.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: Now, was this an actual– it doesn't sound like this
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: was all that close at Tennessee, this battle, is what
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: it sounds like.
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: I think it got closer in the fall. I don't think... Closer.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: It can get closer, but still not be close.
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: Right. I not for one second thought that McIntyre was
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: going to be the guy in fall practice. Let's put
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: it that way. We've been consistent, both of us on
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: this show. I don't think it was close one time.
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: And again, I'm going to go back. Brent Hub's the
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: guy I trust. We've had him on this show. He's
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: connected as anyone. Good buddy with our buddy, Mike Keith.
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: He doesn't just write or say something without having a
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: really good basis of knowledge about it. When he wrote
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: a column... after the scrimmage on Saturday night or Sunday
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: and said, here's why Faison Brandon is going to be
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: the guy. You know, he kind of listed the reasons.
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: I'm thinking it's not officially reported by them. It will
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: be soon. But he's going to be the guy. And
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: Josh Heupel, I'm sure, is going to talk a lot
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: more about it today in that decision. But those receivers, too.
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: I mean, Tennessee's got something with Mike Matthews, who from
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: all accounts has been even better than Braylon Staley this preseason.
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: He is emerging as the guy. He's a five-star. that
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: was a little bit slow to take off last year,
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: had some drop issues, but is a great talent. Tennessee's
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: got to identify that third receiver. Could be the five-star
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: freshman T.K.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: Keys.
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: Could be Rodarius Jackson. Could be Tyra King, who's from Knoxville.
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: They've got a lot of talent at tight end also
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: with Ethan Davis and Dasan Brame. This is a skill-heavy
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: team with a veteran offensive line and a veteran running
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: back who is a workhorse in Deshaun Bishop with two
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: home run threats behind him. and Javen Gordon and DeJuan Morris.
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: This has a chance to be a very good offense
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: if the quarterback, it's a big F, right? But if
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: the quarterback can get it going quickly, you can't have
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: half of a season runway to figure out the offense,
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: the nuances and everything. If it looks like they're an
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: immense talent, like Faison, Brandon, Early, it could be a
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: great year. Same goes for Alabama. When I look at
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: their skill, guys, if Keylon Russell can get it going early,
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: this has a chance to be a surprisingly special year
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: for both Alabama and Tennessee. And guess what, Hutton? They're
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: both going to wear their colored uniforms when they face
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: off on the third Saturday of October against each other.
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: So we could be seeing Faison Brandon versus Keylon Russell
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: in a preview of what could be a mammoth matchup
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: with those two programs for years to come.
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: Chad, as a diehard, true Tennessee fan, how optimistic are
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: you that this is not just the right decision, but
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: this is the decision that puts Tennessee into the college
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: football playoff?
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: I think it's the right decision. I am very, very
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: optimistic about Tennessee this year. Now, we haven't kicked off yet.
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: Let's do a special halftime show.
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: We're sitting here right now.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: Yeah, let's do a special halftime show of the Furman
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: game and let's see how I'm feeling. Or the Georgia
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: Tech game if they're down 17-0 in Atlanta. No, I'm
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: very optimistic. The defense is going to be better. I
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: do think that the Jim Knowles system, it probably is
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: complicated and all that, there's going to be some growing pains.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: With it but we've seen that before too yeah top to.
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: Bottom they're more they're more talented even with losing Farouk
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: they got they really did well in the transfer portal
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: with some guys they added defense was abysmal a year
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: ago it's going to be better I think offensively I
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: don't think you know Joey Aguilar was a finished product
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: when he started in Atlanta against Syracuse right He's connecting
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: on bombs. They put up a lot of points in
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: that game. Faison Brandon's not going to be a finished
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: product when he starts the season, but is he more
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: talented than Joey Aguilar? Bet your ass I think he's
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: more talented. Is his upside higher? Absolutely. He's got a
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: better chance to break a run in a game and
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: make a big play with his feet. So I'm optimistic, Hutton.
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: Let's also just throw in, this is now an opportunity
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: for Josh Heupel to stack seasons with a quarterback. We
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: haven't seen that happen. You know, he gets to build
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: and develop a quarterback now. And this is not just
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: about a one-season decision. That has been the case. I
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: think we can get trapped into that lull, right? Like, oh,
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: this is for the 2026 season. It is. It is.
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: But it's beyond that. And it's beyond that for the
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: first time for Josh Eifel. And I know initially it
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: was Nikko, and Nikko was the future. But you know
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: what I'm saying. This is a decision for the hearing now,
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: but also a decision for the future of Josh Heupel's
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: legacy at the University of Tennessee.
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: First time hunting since 2004 with Brent Schaefer that Tennessee
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: will start a true freshman quarterback in game number one.
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: And if you remember, Eric Ainge took over. They were alternating.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: But Brent Schaefer was the first one out to start
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: that game against UNLV. It was a Sunday night game.
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: I was fresh out of college. I was working at
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: 104.5 The Zone. I drove up that weekend to hang
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: out with friends, and I went to that Sunday night
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: of Labor Day weekend game against UNLV, and I was
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: in the south end zone of that game watching Brent Schaefer.
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: 22 years later, Tennessee will start a true freshman again
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: for the first time at quarterback. I'm excited to see it.
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: It's huge for Josh Heupel. I mean, if you can actually, like,
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: it feels like, okay, these are now multi-year agreements, but
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: what does that mean in the world of college sports?
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: Faison Brandon's locked in. I post those highlights of DGG,
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: and I say Tennessee will win an SEC title while
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: he's there. I'm going to go ahead and call it.
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: One of his three years, they're going to win the
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: SEC with Faison Brandon and DGG. What's the first response
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: from everyone that's not a Tennessee fan? He won't stay
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: at Tennessee. He'll have over 1,000 yards in year one.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: No one stays anywhere.
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: Someone's going to pay more or do that. I mean,
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: it's possible. Do I think it's going to happen? No.
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: I've never been more bullish on a prospect than DGG,
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: what I know about him and what I've seen. English
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: is his second language. Again, he's not spending time going
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: out hollering at girls. He doesn't eat sugar. He does
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: nothing but works out and plays football. This guy is
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: going to be a stud. We can put this on
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: wax and You can play it back all you want.
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: He is going to dominate in Josh Heupel's offense. I
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: feel very good about that. I was talking to someone
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: who knows Kirby Smart. Kirby Smart was telling people, this
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: dude could have started and played at Georgia as a
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: junior in high school. That's how high Kirby Smart was
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: on him. So combine the two, Hutton, I think the
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: sky's the limit for the Vols. And I feel the
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: same about Alabama. I think people are sleeping on the
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: tide right now, and I'm watching highlights to my right
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: of Keelan Russell. I think both programs are set up
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: very well.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: Man, we'll discuss recruiting. There's one DGG, based on the
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: highlights I was watching. He's one of one, right? But
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: recruiting right now, the fan base is, and rightfully so,
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: because the vast majority, the 99% of the of the
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: players are all basically the same player when it comes
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: to recruiting. Let's discuss head coaches, coaching staffs, recruiting. Easier?
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: More difficult? You're doing it every year now. What's the
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: future hold for recruiting? But the top 1%, can you
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: get those dudes to stay? We'll discuss that straight ahead
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: here on Huntley Withrow. Huntley Withrow, with you to tell
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: you about XXXY Athletics, founded by Jennifer Saye. former national
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: champion gymnast, former Levi's brand president. She walked away from
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: a corporate job rather than to say something she didn't believe.
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: And she started XXXY Athletics instead. The mission in their words,
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: empower female athletes, take a stand for fair competition. They
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: call it the T that launched the movement. And it
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: is the movement of the Nashville Balls. Nashville Balls merch, Chad.
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: You can get it right now. XXXY Athletics.
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: That's right. This is the crew making that official merch
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: for the Nashville Bulls. They've got tees, trucker hats out now.
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: If you want the shirt, that's where you get it.
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: New customers also get 20% off your first order when
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: you sign up and free shipping over $ 100. XXXYAthletics.com. That's XX-XYAthletics.com.
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: I'm willing to bet that XXXY made a little bit
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: of money last night with Enos Kanter getting booted from
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: that game with Natasha Cloud, defender of all who can't
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: defend themselves. decided to go into the crowd to tell
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: Enos Hunter that, in fact, he could not sleep with
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: Sophie Cunningham, that he had no chance. Great defender she is.
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: Natasha Cloud acts like we're trying to eradicate all trans. Yeah.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: Come on.
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: Come on, Tosh. You're better than that, Tosh.
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: We just want men out of women's sports. It's really
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: that simple.
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: Some of the dumb things that are said in response
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: to this, but with what she said also, There's no
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: way the WNBA would ever punish her or do anything
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: for her starting an altercation. I mean, what she did
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: was start an altercation with a fan. If you want
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: to be a hard line about rules, right, it's like, hey,
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: you can't go in and say things to fans that
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: paid for a ticket. And Enos Cantor is someone who
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: is a patron of a WNBA game at that point,
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: whether you agree with what he's doing or not. But
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: I feel like Enos Kanter got exactly what he wanted.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: And then the WNBA got what they wanted because they
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: can continue to look foolish and unintentionally set themselves up
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: for more eyeballs.
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: Following their sport. I thought fans of WNBA had to
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: wear Teva sandals to get in.
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: They had to drive a Subaru Outback. Outback parking only
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: is right up next to the arena.
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: You have a Camelback backpack where you sip your water
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: through the backpack. That's the WNBA fan. Recruiting right now
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: for head coaches. Chad, is it easier than ever?
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: I don't know that it's easier than ever, but I
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: think that it's not like Bear Bryant days when you
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: could take 200 players on your roster and most of
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: them wanted to come and play for you. I feel
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: like probably the likes of Bear Bryant and the great
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: coaches back in the day. John Wooden could get pretty
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: much anyone he wanted in college basketball to come play
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: for him, so it's probably easier then. For him... Say
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: that again, Huck?
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: For John Wooden, it's easier.
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: Yeah, well, look, I think the common misconception is it's
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: never been harder for college coaches than it is right
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: now because of the transfer portal, because of NIL. I
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: do think that it is easier from this sense that
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: the days of having to go to the living room
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: and Nick Saban doing the cha-cha slide with a top
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: recruit with his family after the dinner, like those days.
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: Are fewer and farther between. Brian Kelly? Yeah, they come
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: to you.
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: Like now you get a visit set up, you have
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: a big barbecue weekend or whatever it is, you're going
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: to have your big event around a scrimmage or a
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: big game. And yes, there is a lot of infrastructure
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: around these top programs and how they facilitate recruits and
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: recruiting weekends and people who organize all that. And it's
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: still a very complicated system when it comes to that.
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: But the days of flying in for a living room visit,
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: a home visit for someone, you don't see it as
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: much now. The schedule's made a little bit easier on coaches.
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: And Hutton, it's such a business proposition at this point.
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: I mean, your collective and your school, you're just working
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: out the numbers.
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: But the coaches aren't doing that as much. The coach
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: sells their vision, and then they're going through their agent
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: to work out how much they're going to get paid.
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: So that leads to less, I've got to go visit
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: this guy two times. at his home and do this.
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: Then I got to hop on another plane and go
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: here and visit another player. Some of that still happens.
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: But from that perspective, I think in a weird way,
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: it makes it cleaner and easier for the head coaches
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: in recruiting. And why that is, is because there's so
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: many more hands involved now. There's collectives, there's agents, there's analysts,
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: there's all these other people that are involved that the
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: head coach really has to do less now in recruiting.
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: Chad, if you were a recruit, if you're like me,
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: I would be taking every possible visit there was. I'm
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: not to be wined and dined and to fly and
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: jet-shed all over the country as a high school player,
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: you know, or as a college player, you know, like
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: to negotiate. I mean, it's never, I mean, into the
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: portal every year.
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: You get paid to go on a visit now, too, Hutton.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: Yeah, there you go. Getting paid.
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: I mean, keep in mind, like, there's thousands of dollars.
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: These guys are getting paid before they go through their agent.
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: You know, because you can get money in high school
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: now with NIL. I've been watching a lot of high
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: school football over the weekend. We called the Brentwood-Smyrna game
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: on Friday night and saw a beautiful facility at Smyrna
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: High School that players have now. And I'm telling people about, hey,
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: you know, Brentwood's quarterback transferred in from Memphis– And he's
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: the starter now. And then this guy left and went
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: to this school. and everyone's coming to me and saying,
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: wait a minute, are you claiming that high school players
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: are getting paid to go play for other high schools
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: and high school football? And I'm thinking, yeah, some of
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: that's involved, but also it's just opportunity, right? Like you
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: can just up and decide I'm going to leave. my
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: team and go somewhere else because of, Hey, I can
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: start here or this is a better system for me.
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: Or the last three edge rushers that played this position
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: went on to play in college. And I want to
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: go play in college, whatever your decision may be. You
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: can make that decision now in high school football, even
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: in that trickle up effect with all of that, like
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: these guys, by the time they get to you, they've
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: probably already made a business decision or two. They probably
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: already went to the big private school locally. And transferred.
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: They've already done things like that. So they're no stranger
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: to these dealings. You mentioned agents.
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: Is this the first sighting we have of Drew Rosenhaus
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: in college football? This deal right now going on at LSU?
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: I think it is.
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it is.
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: Now publicly, I'm saying.
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: Publicly, for sure. And I think that a Drew Rosenhaus...
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: I don't know who was all with his agency now,
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: but he will probably have a college NIL department.
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: Oh, he's got Rosenhouse sports.
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: But I'm saying he's, he's publicly representing the, this player, uh,
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: who was an undrafted tight end. I mean, again, he's getting,
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: he's going to get cut most likely anyway. He's hoping
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: he would, he has now he's got clear waivers. We,
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: we know all that, but he's now, he's recruiting others
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: to do exactly this. Now it's now Rosenhouse up front
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: and center. And, and, He's now recruiting players, Chad, this way.
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: It won't be that far from now whenever he's going
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: to be in the driveway of a house, of a family,
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: like T.O. was doing push-ups and sit-ups and working out
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: in the driveway. We'll have Rosenhaus doing this, but for
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: a college player or a high school player.
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: This is the next expansion of that. I mean, perfect marriage,
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: first off. Drew Rosenhaus and Lane Kiffin, congratulations. You two
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: finally got together. You got hitched. Because from just a
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: PR standpoint, both guys don't have great PR at times,
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: and people don't like them. And it's the perfect PR
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: stunt type marriage with those two guys.
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: Yep, you're right.
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: Also, here's another thing I keep hearing. Why would someone
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: want to leave the NFL for college football? Why wouldn't
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: you if you're Daquan Wright? This is 1,000% the right
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: decision for him. He was barely going to make the
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: team with the Bucs if making it at all. He
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: gets to go back, make more money, to play a
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: sport he knows he's successful playing. I don't know why
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: you would leave school unless you're a first-round pick right
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: now in college football, right? It is set up for you.
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: You're well-protected. you have a great infrastructure of where you're living,
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: where you're walking to your facility. Everyone's like, why would
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: you want to go to class? We don't have to.
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: All the classes are online. Who knows if half the
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: guys are even going to class at this point in
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: time when you look at how professional college football is.
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: I just think it's the perfect setup for him. He
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: made the right decision for him. Make no mistake about it.
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: I hate it for the sport, but for him, great job.
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: I got no problem with him doing that if he
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: was able to make it happen. That's what should happen.
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: He's one of 16 that are expected to do this
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: at least, right?
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: At least 16.
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: And for all the bitching and moaning that's going to
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: happen when he takes the field, we turn on college
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: game day or big noon kickoff that first weekend, and
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: it's going to be a story for everyone. What will
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: Daquan Wright do today for LSU? And everyone's going to
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: have their roundtable discussion about it. And Kirk Herbstreit and
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: everyone's going to sit there and bitch about the failure
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: of college sports.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: Guess what?
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: How it's no longer amateur and this and that. No
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: matter all of that, Hutton, all the bitching, we will
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: all be watching. Ratings will be through the roof.
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: And when you're watching, here's my thing. Do I like
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: where we're headed and where we are? Not just where
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: we're headed, where we are. No, I don't. But does
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: my college football Saturday feel like a Saturday? And it
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: still does.
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: When I watch it, it still does feel like Saturday.
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: NFL Sunday feels different. College football just has a vibe
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: and a feeling and like a true just there's just
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: an aura about it. And as long as it's there,
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: I'm okay with whatever's going on beneath the surface because
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: it's not affecting my joy of college football on game day.
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: Tailgate to postgame.
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: And Well, and let's, to your point, Hutton, let's bring
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: JT up for a second because we're on a group
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: text with him. And when we were talking about this story,
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: he said, I love the drama. I mean, I think
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: that he's not alone with that, right, JT? Like this
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: just adds to the storyline of college football. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: I think anytime you can kind of just have this
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: back and forth. I mean, it's just what makes people interested, right?
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: I mean, I live for.
- 1:24:01Speaker 5: This stuff versus what's on Sunday, a little bit different,
- 1:24:03Speaker 5: but I think it's great.
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: Here's something we've talked about a lot too, and I
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: think JT and Hutton would both agree with this. I
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: know Hutton does. We need somebody to hate. Hate is
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: a powerful emotion in sport. You need someone to root against.
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: You need a villain, but you need someone, and I
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: know people are going to, well, don't hate. People are
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: going to hate the Daquan Wright situation, and they will
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: root against him. They will root against him in games.
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: And now if he goes out and he's really successful
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: for LSU, it's going to make even more interest. And
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: now it's LSU. And generate it because people are going
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: to continue to watch.
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: And the villain aspect, JT, like Chad and I have
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: talked about this. We already hate the story. Kiffin leaves
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: Ole Miss. He's what we hated in the college football
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: playoff last year. He gave up on the team that
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: was going to go coach a team that he believed
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: could win a national championship. The governor gets involved there.
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: There's a lot of things to not like about the
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: villain of LSU. LSU is just fine playing the villain. J.T.,
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: do you need a villain in college football?
- 1:25:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, what happens if Lane Kiffin leaves to
- 1:25:09Speaker 5: go coach a different team in the NFL? He's amazing
- 1:25:14Speaker 5: for college football. I mean, whether you like him or don't,
- 1:25:16Speaker 5: but he's great if you don't.
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: And I don't even know who that next Lane Kiffin
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: would be. If we didn't have Lane Kiffin in the
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: SEC especially or in college, he's great in the SEC.
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: I hope he never leaves and goes back to the NFL.
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: I mean, Kurt Cignetti, but Kurt Cignetti coaches at Indiana.
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: So it's still kind of a, well, the guy's arrogant
- 1:25:36Speaker 2: and this and that.
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: Eli Drinkwitz wants to be that guy, but he's not
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: that guy.
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: Who did you say, Hunt?
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: I said Drinkwitz wants to be that guy, but he'll
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: never be that guy.
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: No, because they're not good enough.
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: So you've got to be really good, and you've got
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: to be really unlikable.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: But if you're willing to play the villain, Sean Watson
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: can't play the villain.
- 1:25:57Speaker 5: Think about what James Franklin did at Vanderbilt.
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: I mean, you know?
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: We're going to talk later this week, too. I'm glad
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: you brought up James Franklin. Guys who were set up
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: for immediate success in college football, first-year head coaches, we're
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: going to come up with a list. It's not going
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: to be our depth chart this week. I've got our
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: depth chart that I'm actually working on a piece for
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: Sporting State that hopefully will drop later this week, and
- 1:26:20Speaker 2: we can discuss it as our depth chart. But, Hutton,
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: I think that James Franklin, you could make the argument,
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: Kyle Whittingham's the other one, that it's just the perfect
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: cultural fit for where they are right now, and James
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: Franklin of Virginia Tech, there's a chance for upward mobility
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: in the ACC because that is not a great league.
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: And Virginia Tech still does have a good name in
- 1:26:41Speaker 2: the sport. And they could win and win big quickly
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: with James Franklin as their head coach. We'll talk more
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: about that later in the week.
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: Hey, our boys at the Next Round Live are getting
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: ready in about a little over 15 minutes to join
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: us here on Sport and State. They'll have you covered
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: starting next. at 10 a.m. Eastern with LT and Ryan
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: Brown and Dunaway. Be sure to catch them straight ahead.
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: When we come back, though, we continue here on Hutton & Withrow. And, Chad,
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: a comparison for DGG and Tom Brady when we come back.
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: It's Hutton & Withrow presented by Hard Rock Bets. Next
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: round live coming up at the top of the hour. Chad,
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: do you think if I say top of the hour,
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: most people know what I'm talking about?
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: I think everyone over 35 knows what you're talking about.
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: I think for the younger generation, they may have a
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: hard time with that. This is the debut for Next
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: Round Live, too, on the Sporting State Network coming up.
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: That's right. Looking forward to LT and Ryan Brown and Dunaway.
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: Catch them coming up at 10 o'clock Eastern. So, Chad,
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: you brought up DGG and how he doesn't eat sugar, right? Correct.
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: Correct.
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: But he's had sugar. At least he's had sugar.
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: I would assume he's had sugar in his life, yes.
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: Tom Brady claims he has never had coffee. Ever. That
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: is a lie. Everyone has tried coffee. Think about how
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: popular coffee is across the world as just a drink.
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: And to not have tried coffee in your life. President
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: Trump says he's never had a sip of alcohol Okay.
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: Like coffee. You've never tried coffee. Tried coffee.
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: Yeah. I know plenty of people have never had alcohol.
- 1:28:33Speaker 2: Totally believable. The coffee thing, like you never stole a
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: sip from your parents.
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: But like... across your entire, not even parent, like after,
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: if let's say your parents just refused to let you
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: have coffee, that would be a drink you would try
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: in spite of your parents because it's not illegal. It's
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: not bad for you. Everyone drinks it. It's readily available. Like,
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: Come on. Never tried coffee. It was different than just
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: doesn't eat sugar. Okay, you can do away with sugar.
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: I can go from sweet tea to unsweet tea, reluctantly.
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: But to never try tea? I just wouldn't drink tea.
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: Sweet tea is bad for my kidney stones, so I've
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: given up sweet tea. I love sweet tea. Okay, but
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: once I've heard that it can cause kidney stones for
- 1:29:28Speaker 2: someone that's had them before, I will never drink sweet
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: tea again because of that, because of the.
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: Pain of kidney stones. Okay, that's interesting, though.
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: But unsweetened tea is disgusting.
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: Well, I'm fine with unsweetened tea. They would call it
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: iced tea in the North. I would also say you
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: and I both, we would drink a sugary coffee, and
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: now I can just drink straight black, no sugar.
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: I can drink straight coffee. I think the fall-off, though,
- 1:29:55Speaker 2: from the sugary, cream-filled coffee to just black coffee is
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: way less severe than sugarless tea and the drop-off from
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: tea with sugar in it. It completely changes the taste
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: so much. The chat out on the YouTube chat says,
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: I have a 20-ounce tumbler of coffee every morning, heavy cream,
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: and maple syrup.
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: Maple syrup.
- 1:30:20Speaker 2: I mean, DGG and Tom Brady would hate this guy
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: in that morning routine to put maple syrup and sugar
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: and cream and coffee and everything else. I have a
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: hard time believing it. My 11-year-old drinks coffee now pretty
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: much every morning. She'll have a little bit of coffee
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: before she goes off to school. So I have a
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: hard time, like you, Hutton, believing Tom Brady's never had
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: a sip of coffee. That's a lot.
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: I think it's a lot. You know, I've never tried coffee. That's...
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: That's a little bit too far for me, too much
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: of a stretch, and I'm a Brady fan. Also, DGG,
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: he's 17? Yep. 17 years old, to look like Megatron,
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: to speak two different languages, English as a second language,
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: to not eat sugar. Can the kid live a little bit?
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: Is he allowed to just be a dude on the campus?
- 1:31:18Speaker 2: He can hunt and he can live all he wants
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: once he's done with his time at the University of Tennessee.
- 1:31:22Speaker 2: I need him to be a Megatron-like robot and just
- 1:31:25Speaker 2: go and perform. That's what I need from him as
- 1:31:27Speaker 2: a Tennessee fan.
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: I don't want the robot, man. I want the dude
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: to live it up. Because that's the only way he
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: stays at Tennessee. He needs to get within the Tennessee globe.
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: It's kind of like Texas A & M when you're
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: in the snow globe. When you get to Knoxville, you
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: need to live Knoxville a little bit, have some sugar,
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: if you know what I mean.
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: I think that he will not do that. And I
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: think that some people are just wired differently. I just
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: really feel like he's wired differently than most where he
- 1:31:57Speaker 2: doesn't need it. He just wants to kind of show
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: up and go to work. And then I think he
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: like goes and plays video games.
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: But these guys feel like it's like a kid star,
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: like a kid actor back in the day where the
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: parents are like the, the, They're the puppeteers. Because this
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: is a boarding school at Baylor where he's coming down
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: from Canada. It feels a lot like a child star
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: like Macaulay Culkin back in the day.
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: I'm going to give a shout out to Jim Dunaway,
- 1:32:23Speaker 2: who's going to be up next. Because talking about this,
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: he saw and he was talking about the DGG highlights
- 1:32:29Speaker 2: from Thursday. And I think he watched Bo Jackson as
- 1:32:34Speaker 2: a high school prospect. And he said that if... Cell
- 1:32:37Speaker 2: phones had cameras, and they were around back then, and
- 1:32:40Speaker 2: you got to watch these games on TV. It feels
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: like what Bo Jackson looked like in high school when
- 1:32:45Speaker 2: he watches DGG. Like, this is what the highlight reel
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: probably would have looked like to everyone watching the game,
- 1:32:50Speaker 2: where everyone was just blown away by the way this
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: guy looked, like Spider-Man with some of his maneuvers during
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: that game and how big and strong and fast he is.
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: There's no accounting for injury and things like that if
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: that happens, but it just– It feels like a pretty
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: surefire bet on DGG. Now, you know, paying him $ 2
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: million a year for a non-quarterback, he's going to get
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: paid more than any running back. There's still going to
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: be questions about roster allotment of your finances and who
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: you're paying and all that. But it just feels to
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: me like a pretty, it's a bet worth taking. If
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: you're Tennessee and you're trying to land the in-state guy
- 1:33:27Speaker 2: that you feel that highly about, that you go ahead
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: and invest that money. That's at least what it looked
- 1:33:31Speaker 2: like when I watched him on Thursday night against Brentwood Academy.
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: Yep, and we've got Faison Brandon announced today as the
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: starter at University of Tennessee. Keelan Russell's the starter in
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: Tuscaloosa for Alabama. Young quarterback's the way to go, man.
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: Because if you don't go with the young starter, chances
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: are you're going to lose that guy to the portal.
- 1:33:58Speaker 2: Yeah, so if you're not going to go the route of,
- 1:34:01Speaker 2: let's bring in a guy who's got one year or
- 1:34:02Speaker 2: two that's 23, or 22 that's played a lot of football,
- 1:34:05Speaker 2: the Sam Leavitt route at LSU, then I think the
- 1:34:09Speaker 2: next best scenario is what Tennessee and Alabama are doing.
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: And boy, we got a five-star guy here on campus.
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: Let's roll with him. Maybe it's not pretty all the
- 1:34:17Speaker 2: time as he breaks in as an 18-year-old or 19-year-old
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: in the SEC, but maybe we can actually have some
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: continuity where there is no continuity around college football anywhere else.
- 1:34:28Speaker 2: And if you can keep that quarterback continuity with some
- 1:34:30Speaker 2: key pieces around them and lock them up from year
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: to year, you could have something really good. I think
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: Alabama and Tennessee both could be set up for something
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: really nice. Really nice. Really nice surprise, Clark, for both
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: those programs moving forward because of the quarterback.
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: When's the last time we've heard about Bryce Underwood to
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: get a young quarterback?
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: It's a great question, and I think he's almost the
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: cautionary tale of what Michigan was a year ago. He
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: was the no-doubt, no-brainer prospect. He wasn't great. He wasn't
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: bad either. But I think the fact that we're not
- 1:35:03Speaker 2: hearing as much out of Michigan camp with him is
- 1:35:05Speaker 2: probably a good thing, right? Because if we were hearing anything,
- 1:35:08Speaker 2: it'd be alarm bells about him having a sophomore slump
- 1:35:11Speaker 2: or not getting a lot better. But I don't really
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: see that with him. But I think that's what you
- 1:35:16Speaker 2: look at it and say, Jared Curtis at Vanderbilt, who's
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: the number one quarterback in the country, right? If Jared
- 1:35:22Speaker 2: Curtis at Vanderbilt is Bryce Underwood from a year ago,
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: With Vandy supporting Cass in their schedule, which is brutal,
- 1:35:32Speaker 2: do they win six games? You know, I don't know.
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: But he could still look good enough and perform, but
- 1:35:38Speaker 2: what does that mean for wins and losses? We're going
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: to find out.
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: Well, I'll tell you this, man. If Vanderbilt wins six games,
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: and if he's Bryce Underwood of last year, if Vanderbilt
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: wins six games with a true freshman starter with a
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: gauntlet of a schedule that they have in the SEC,
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: that's a good sign for the Vanderbilt Commodores. Their over-under
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: is 6.5. That's sustainability.
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: Yeah, their over-under is 6.5 going into the season. I
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: think if they get six wins, that's pretty good. I
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: think if they get seven, that's great.
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: You've got a five-star starter. You've got a transformed offensive line.
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: To me, that means you're winning some games in there
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: that you're the underdog with in the SEC that you're
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: still trending up despite winning 10 and dropping to 6.
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: With the true freshman starter, I'm saying.
- 1:36:29Speaker 2: Clark Lee would hate us for saying this and setting
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: the expectations there. He would tell you that they didn't
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: do enough last year winning 10 and that they're trying
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: to win an SEC title, and that's the goal for
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: this season. Yeah. But I'm with you on this. The
- 1:36:39Speaker 2: Vegas over-under is 6.5. Vandy feels like if they get
- 1:36:43Speaker 2: to 6, it's a success. If they get to 7,
- 1:36:46Speaker 2: it's an amazing season.
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: Sure.
- 1:36:47Speaker 2: Tennessee, Hutton, they're over-under 7.5, a game more than Vandy.
- 1:36:51Speaker 2: That's it, one game more. But doesn't it feel like
- 1:36:54Speaker 2: for Tennessee to have a successful year, they need 8?
- 1:36:56Speaker 2: I don't think seven, like Vandy, feels like a success.
- 1:36:59Speaker 2: And that's with a true freshman as well. True freshman
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: starter as well.
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: But still, it feels– again, I'm just giving you my–
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: what I think about each team. I think Tennessee needs
- 1:37:12Speaker 2: to get the over to truly be successful this year.
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: I think Vandy could be a half game under and
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: still feel like a success.
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: Yeah. Vanderbilt, though, like there's– Vanderbilt, to me, I would
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: take the over by half game. And I would take
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: the under by half game for Tennessee. I think Vegas
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: has nailed it with the over-under for both. As for
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: Jerry Curtis, we're going to find out if he's the
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: starter later this week, early this week, today or tomorrow,
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: I believe, is when at least internally Vanderbilt wants to
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: have a starter named.
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: Yeah, Keelan Russell yesterday or the day before named the starter.
- 1:37:53Speaker 2: Faison Brandon today. Maybe way today. and then get a
- 1:37:57Speaker 2: news pop tomorrow if you're Clark Lee and name Jared
- 1:38:00Speaker 2: Curtis as the starter. But hey, it may be Blaise
- 1:38:03Speaker 2: Berlowitz who's the starter, which would be a huge shock
- 1:38:06Speaker 2: to me, but it seems like there's been.
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: More credence to his performance. I'm not playing Berlowitz here.
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: He has a tendency to turn the football over. There
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: are throws, though, that Curtis can make. You and I
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: stood and watched, and it's one practice. But there are
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: plays that Curtis makes that we're not seeing the senior make.
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: with a flick of the wrist. And you play the
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: five-star because of the schedule, the way it starts. They're
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: opening up against Austin Peay. Then they have Delaware at home.
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: And then they're hosting NC State. So those are the
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: three games. But here comes the gauntlet for a true freshman.
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: On the road against Auburn. On the road against Georgia.
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: Hosting Ole Miss. hosting Arkansas, visiting Kentucky, going on the
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: road against Mississippi State, hosting Alabama, visiting Florida, hosting Tennessee.
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: That's life in the SEC. But this is a five-star
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: who was going to Georgia. I keep having to tell
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: myself that. You're starting this dude.
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: There's no breaks.
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: I'm not naming the other guy. The benefit of having...
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: The benefit of having the senior as your backup is
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: he's been in the New Mexico State office. He has
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: been with this coaching staff. If something happens to your freshman,
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: you're okay. You can run your offense and run it well.
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: But can you have the splash plays? Can you have
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: the dynamic five-star plays? Not unless you're starting the five-star freshman, Chad.
- 1:39:42Speaker 2: There's no breaks in that SEC schedule and– Yeah, Jared
- 1:39:46Speaker 2: Curtis didn't decommit from Georgia to go to Vandy to
- 1:39:50Speaker 2: sit the bench.
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: I haven't heard from Diego Pavia. Is he going to
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: enter the portal?
- 1:39:55Speaker 2: And, hey, Bryce Underwood got paid a ton of money too.
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: Yes, he did.
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: I think you get paid to start. Like, I don't think–
- 1:40:02Speaker 2: with the money Bryce Underwood was getting paid, I heard
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: Dave Portnoy, who helped pay it, at Barstool talk about it. Like, yeah,
- 1:40:08Speaker 2: we're paying the kid to start. He's coming in to
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: be the starter on day one. That's the expectation. I
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: feel the same about Jared Curtis. And will Diego Pavi
- 1:40:16Speaker 2: enter the transfer portal? I've had my suspicions. Please, please.
- 1:40:19Speaker 2: I've had my suspicions. Now, I don't think the fifth
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: year thing applies for him because he already got the exemption.
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: I was just saying he's undrafted. He's undrafted. He can
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: still try. Yeah, if Pavi could play, he would play.
