- 1:06SPEAKER_00: and relationships matter far more than results.
- 1:10So pour yourself a cup of coffee,
- 1:11tea,
- 1:12latte,
- 1:12soda,
- 1:13or water,
- 1:14and let's get started.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Today I'm sharing from Chapter 20 of Marketplace Proverbs, Volume 1.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: A Sales Navigator's Compass to Customer Success Mastery,
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: written by yours truly and John Kluter.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: So, Proverbs 20, verse 29 from the NIV.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: The glory of young men is their strength.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Gray hair is the splendor of the old.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Verse 29 from Proverbs 20 from the New International Version.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: That's a beautiful way of saying each season of life has its own gift.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Youth brings energy and strength.
- 1:57Age brings wisdom and perspective,
- 2:00and those gifts are best when they're shared,
- 2:04not guarded.
- 2:05My friend and co-author John Cluter told me a story that
- 2:09perfectly captures this
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: verse,
- 2:12and I share it with you here because it's one of those moments
- 2:16that hits you in the
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: gut when you realize what was lost and what could have been gained.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: John said he was in an all-day training meeting,
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: 8.30 in the morning till 5,
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: and then dinner afterward.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Just six people in the room.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: He was the youngest.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: A couple of others were closer to the end of their careers,
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: including the oldest person in the room,
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: someone who had hearing difficulties.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: I can relate.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Now, John has a quick wit.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: and he admits a quick temper at times.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: And as the day went on,
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: the man's hearing issue caused a few delays and interruptions,
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: and John became impatient.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Here's the part that hit John later.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: This gentleman had been in the industry longer than John had been alive.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Decades of experience, years of hard-earned wisdom,
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: But instead of seeing him as a resource, John saw him as a roadblock.
- 3:25And what if John had slowed down and offered to help this
- 3:29gentleman keep up with the discussion?
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: And in return,
- 3:33he might have learned how to apply the day's training for
- 3:37someone who had lived it
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: out in real life.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Instead, they both missed the exchange.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: His strength,
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: being able to hear the conversation clearly,
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: never kept connected with the older man's splendor,
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: years of marketplace insight.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: And when that connection didn't happen, everybody loses.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: One day...
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: If we're blessed, we'll be the older one in the room.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: I'm already there, but I'm not going anywhere anytime soon.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: I'll be 78, 77 soon, and I'm looking forward to doing this until I'm 100.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: And when that happens,
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: we'll want someone to value what we bring,
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: even if it takes a little longer to bring it.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: Proverbs 20, 29 is a reminder to look for the trade.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: If you're young, trade your energy for someone's wisdom.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: If you're older, trade your experience for someone's fresh perspective.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: That's how both sides grow stronger.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Today's customer success code,
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: great partnerships trade strength for wisdom and leave both sides richer.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Today's action points spot the strengths gap.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: Next time you feel frustrated with someone, stop and ask,
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: What do they know or bring that I don't?
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: Point number two, or action point number two, offer your strength first.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: Give what you have,
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: whether that's clarity,
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: speed,
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: or technical skill before you expect anything in return.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: Action point number three, ask for their splendor.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Invite them to share lessons from their experience.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: You might hear something you didn't even know you needed.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: In action point four, bridge the gap together.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: Find a simple way to work together that uses both your strengths.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: In action point number five, write it down.
- 5:40Record at least one piece of wisdom you've gained from them and
- 5:45make it part of your playbook.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: If we commit to trading strength and splendor in every interaction,
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: we'll never walk away empty-handed.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: We'll build deeper relationships,
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: stronger teams,
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: and a marketplace that honors both the young and the seasons.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: Think on that.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: Well,
