- 0:00Speaker 1: This is this is my worst nightmare at a bar,
- 0:02Speaker 1: somebody pitching me an animated TV show or a movie,
- 0:05Speaker 1: and what is Joe doing that? Exactly on this podcast.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Hello and welcome to May the Review be with You
- 0:14Speaker 2: with Nick and I'm Joe. I'm Nick, and today is
- 0:18Speaker 2: the second episode of put It on Your List game
- 0:22Speaker 2: that Nick and I have adapted from real life when
- 0:25Speaker 2: you encounter people who force you into a conversation about
- 0:28Speaker 2: that show or movie that you just have to watch today.
- 0:32Speaker 2: We're going to force each other to put something a
- 0:35Speaker 2: show or a movie on our list. So, of course
- 0:39Speaker 2: one of us will approach the other with whatever it
- 0:41Speaker 2: is that we insist that the other one will watch.
- 0:43Speaker 2: We'll get a we'll get a quick pitch on how
- 0:45Speaker 2: to do that, and then we'll get to ask each
- 0:46Speaker 2: other some questions about whether or not this is actually
- 0:49Speaker 2: worth our time to put this on our list. But
- 0:52Speaker 2: before we get into all of that, Nick, how are
- 0:54Speaker 2: you doing today? Great?
- 0:56Speaker 1: Excited? I love these These are some of my favorite
- 0:59Speaker 1: episodes we do because you're always Joe's always pitching something crazy.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Joe's always got something crazy.
- 1:05Speaker 2: It's like it's the ADHD ideas. Man, It's like a
- 1:09Speaker 2: compare belt. Does he follow through on any of them.
- 1:11Speaker 2: That's why Nick is here to make sure that he
- 1:12Speaker 2: commits to it least some of them. Thank you for that, Mick.
- 1:19Speaker 2: But before we get into put it on your list,
- 1:22Speaker 2: let's go into the news of this week coming out
- 1:25Speaker 2: of TV and film. First up on the docket, we
- 1:29Speaker 2: want to address really some sad news from the earlier
- 1:32Speaker 2: this week film Icon and thespian Maggie Smith passed away.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Really really terrible to hear that. Mag Smith probably most
- 1:41Speaker 2: notable from her role of bringing Professor Minerva McGonagall to
- 1:45Speaker 2: life on screen throughout the Harry Potter franchise. Nick, I
- 1:50Speaker 2: know you caught that news. I think you caught that
- 1:53Speaker 2: news actually earlier than I did. How you know, how
- 1:56Speaker 2: were you feeling once you found out?
- 1:58Speaker 1: Super bummed, super sad. I'm a huge Harry Potter fan,
- 2:02Speaker 1: so that's a tough one for everybody, But so it goes.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Unfortunately, so it goes, and you know, as the truth
- 2:11Speaker 2: that's being would say that the show must go on.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Someone earlier this week, when when that news came out,
- 2:19Speaker 2: I was talking to I think put it best. She
- 2:21Speaker 2: was everyone's grandma while the Harry Potter franchise was coming out,
- 2:24Speaker 2: and I think that's a really sweet way to put that.
- 2:28Speaker 2: If you haven't caught up on either Daniel Ratcliffe's or
- 2:32Speaker 2: Emma Watson's eulogies of her, be sure to look those
- 2:36Speaker 2: up there. They're really sweet, really amazing send off, and
- 2:40Speaker 2: just wand's up for Maggie Smith, a true film icon.
- 2:45Speaker 2: As the show goes on looking at other film news
- 2:48Speaker 2: from this week, let's talk about the James Gun universe,
- 2:51Speaker 2: because there was some big headlines coming out. The last
- 2:54Speaker 2: time we did this episode of Put It on Your List,
- 2:57Speaker 2: we actually talked about Lanterns, and we have some news
- 3:00Speaker 2: on Lanterns. We were speculating about who was gonna get
- 3:03Speaker 2: the job of Hal Jordan, and we have an answer.
- 3:06Speaker 2: It's Kyle Chandler. Kyle Chandler is Hal Jordan, the guy
- 3:10Speaker 2: from Friday Night Lights. It's him. He's gonna he's gonna
- 3:13Speaker 2: John he's gonna don the jumpsuit and he's gonna jump
- 3:16Speaker 2: in a jet. He's gonna wear the ring. Nick how
- 3:19Speaker 2: we feeling.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I have no idea where they're going with this. It's
- 3:22Speaker 1: like totally shocking to me. Like Kyle Chandler is like awesome,
- 3:25Speaker 1: he's been He's played some really fun, like cool roles
- 3:27Speaker 1: like of course coaching Friday Night Lights, Like that's pretty
- 3:30Speaker 1: a pretty u iconic thing, right. It seems so strange
- 3:34Speaker 1: to me because he's you know, he's like fifty nine
- 3:36Speaker 1: years old, So like, are we getting like an older
- 3:38Speaker 1: Hal Jordan than I guess, like storyline like that must
- 3:41Speaker 1: be where they're going unless they're gonna SEEGI make him younger.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I don't know why they would do that, But DC's
- 3:48Speaker 1: done plenty of things that I don't know why they did.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Recently, know in the last ten years. So who knows.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Benefit of the doubt working here because it's James Guns
- 3:56Speaker 1: universe now, so we'll see, uh, we'll see how goes.
- 4:00Speaker 2: It is a weird choice, I mean as far as
- 4:03Speaker 2: like trying to bring stardom to the role, it's a
- 4:05Speaker 2: weird choice because, like I mean, we keep bringing you up.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Friday Night Lights easily the most iconic thing that he
- 4:11Speaker 2: has on his resume. Maybe it's not your favorite thing
- 4:14Speaker 2: that you've seen him in. If if you have a
- 4:16Speaker 2: movie or a TV show that you absolutely loved him
- 4:19Speaker 2: in that we haven't named super eight would probably be
- 4:21Speaker 2: the first thing that I think of, but I wouldn't
- 4:23Speaker 2: say he was a major role in that. Tell Us,
- 4:25Speaker 2: tell us what it is, because like this is kind
- 4:27Speaker 2: of a mystery to me, Like, again it what what
- 4:31Speaker 2: was that late nineties early two thousands Friday Night Lights?
- 4:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's two thousands.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Yeah, it feels it feels like we're very far removed
- 4:39Speaker 2: from like the peak of his stardom and like his
- 4:42Speaker 2: ability to like bring in a crowd.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Well he also Yeah, the crowd thing's a good point.
- 4:46Speaker 1: He was also the FBI agent though on Wolf of
- 4:48Speaker 1: wall Street, which is an awesome role.
- 4:49Speaker 2: So that is true, that's fun. If you were going
- 4:53Speaker 2: to the Wolf of wall Street for k Kyle Kyle
- 4:56Speaker 2: Chandler's character, please let us know and why. I really
- 5:00Speaker 2: would love to know why.
- 5:02Speaker 1: That's a good point.
- 5:04Speaker 2: The only speculation I have on this nick as to
- 5:07Speaker 2: why they're doing this a like it you know, he's
- 5:10Speaker 2: he's a seasoned actor, right, But I think he brought
- 5:14Speaker 2: up a really great point. They purposely want to go
- 5:16Speaker 2: with like an older hell Jordan, and I think the
- 5:20Speaker 2: reason for it is so we know that this show
- 5:24Speaker 2: is supposed to be like a true detective sort of show, right,
- 5:28Speaker 2: And they even have a true detective writer on it.
- 5:32Speaker 2: They have Tom King who's a Batman comic book writer,
- 5:35Speaker 2: and then Damian Limbloff who is the Lost writer. So
- 5:38Speaker 2: like they clearly want to create a mystique or mysterious
- 5:43Speaker 2: like type of show. And I think if if hal
- 5:45Speaker 2: Jordan is just starting out as a Green Lantern, maybe
- 5:49Speaker 2: he can bring like his military experience, like you know,
- 5:52Speaker 2: he has his season he's a season military detective, right,
- 5:56Speaker 2: or something like being a jet pilot or something, or
- 5:59Speaker 2: he a seasoned Green Lantern, right, It's one of those
- 6:03Speaker 2: two things. That's what they're trying to do here. Either way,
- 6:06Speaker 2: I'm surprisingly more excited for this show than I thought
- 6:09Speaker 2: I would be. We got one other bit of news
- 6:12Speaker 2: that came out of that from that announcement, we found
- 6:15Speaker 2: out that they are trying to cast John Jones, who
- 6:18Speaker 2: is the second Green Lantern to show up in the franchise.
- 6:22Speaker 2: And we actually have two names that are coming out
- 6:25Speaker 2: of this, Aaron Pierre and Stefan James. Aaron Pierre getting
- 6:29Speaker 2: a lot of notoriety right now for Rebel Ridge, which
- 6:32Speaker 2: I have not seen that yet, but apparently I have to.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Apparently I have to put that on my list, is
- 6:38Speaker 2: what I'm learning. Mufasa is coming out later this year.
- 6:41Speaker 2: He's playing Young Mufasa. That wasn't a movie I was
- 6:45Speaker 2: really planning on watching, but that's really awesome that he's
- 6:49Speaker 2: the star of that. Steffan James beal Street could talk
- 6:54Speaker 2: Selma Clue. The TV show he's got actually surprisingly like.
- 6:59Speaker 2: I feel like he's been a actor with a surprisingly
- 7:02Speaker 2: like well studded resume. So I'm not sure who I
- 7:08Speaker 2: preferred to see here, but if the tides of crowd
- 7:12Speaker 2: power are bringing anyone around I feel like it might
- 7:15Speaker 2: be Aaron Pierre right now, because apparently he's really hot
- 7:18Speaker 2: in Hollywood. Right now. We'll see, We'll see last thing,
- 7:22Speaker 2: at least for DC stuff. There was a short little
- 7:24Speaker 2: announcement about DC Villains, some kind of DC Villains project
- 7:29Speaker 2: that James Gunn is designing with two characters that they're
- 7:33Speaker 2: trying to cast right now, death Stroke and Bain being
- 7:36Speaker 2: part of this project. Not sure what they're going for here,
- 7:39Speaker 2: Not sure if this is supposed to be like a
- 7:40Speaker 2: suicide squad thing or just like, truthfully, I don't know,
- 7:46Speaker 2: I don't know what we're going for here we shall see.
- 7:49Speaker 2: I was born in it, molded by it. I've always
- 7:54Speaker 2: really loved death Stroke, and yeah, more media love for
- 7:59Speaker 2: death Stroke. That is great. And I guess to segue
- 8:04Speaker 2: actually into our next headline perfectly, the Marvel equivalent of
- 8:08Speaker 2: death Stroke Nick.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Deadpool, Deadpool and Wolverine. Deadpool and Wolverine streaming October first.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Just catch me watching that repeatedly for about three weeks
- 8:18Speaker 1: and nothing else, So look out for that.
- 8:20Speaker 2: And I've been waiting to hear this news for a
- 8:23Speaker 2: lot time. I haven't had time to go to the
- 8:25Speaker 2: movie theater to watch this again, but I didn't want
- 8:27Speaker 2: to watch this again.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I know, I can't wait. It's gonna be glorious. And
- 8:31Speaker 1: to segue to the world of dinosaurs, Jurassic World Rebirth what, yeah,
- 8:41Speaker 1: I know, Jurassic World Rebirth has wrapped filming. That's coming
- 8:45Speaker 1: out in twenty twenty five. More Jurassic Park stuff. We
- 8:50Speaker 1: love those stories. The I think the previous trilogy probably
- 8:56Speaker 1: ended slightly flat, but we'll see what happens here with
- 8:59Speaker 1: the Rebirth, which you know is I guess not a
- 9:01Speaker 1: working title, so uh anyway, Scarlet Johanes is in it,
- 9:05Speaker 1: so it should be hopefully good.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I didn't know that. I actually, I mean, we love
- 9:09Speaker 2: Scarlett Johans.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Yeah, Scario, Scario.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Who doesn't love Scargio.
- 9:13Speaker 1: I'm gonna watch it, so we'll see.
- 9:15Speaker 2: I'm unfortunately gonna watch it. Nick I I don't like
- 9:20Speaker 2: Jurassic The Jurassic franchise is one of those franchises that, like,
- 9:24Speaker 2: I don't think is good. I actually think it sucks,
- 9:28Speaker 2: and it will always pull me in because Jurassic Park
- 9:32Speaker 2: remains like a one of my favorite movies and then
- 9:35Speaker 2: B like my favorite book of all time, so like
- 9:38Speaker 2: they kind of have me forever unfortunately.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Right, there's something about like the first movies in those
- 9:45Speaker 1: two trilogies, now, like the first ones are really good,
- 9:48Speaker 1: like they're awesome, and then it just like tails off
- 9:52Speaker 1: as they continue the storyline. You know, it's uh, well,
- 9:57Speaker 1: actually I don't know if that's true. The original trilogy,
- 9:59Speaker 1: the second one bad, but the third one it kind
- 10:02Speaker 1: of picks back up a little bit.
- 10:04Speaker 2: I don't thank you, thank you you, and I are
- 10:06Speaker 2: in the minority on this. Apparently a lot of people
- 10:09Speaker 2: don't like the third movie, and maybe I'm just comparing, like,
- 10:13Speaker 2: you know, recycle recycling, bin to Hot Garbage with three
- 10:18Speaker 2: and two, But I like the third movie. Just give
- 10:22Speaker 2: me Alan Grant any day.
- 10:23Speaker 1: You know, the third movie is way better than the
- 10:25Speaker 1: second one. The second one is hot, hot, hot, hot
- 10:27Speaker 1: garbage hot at garbage. God, it's bad anyway.
- 10:33Speaker 2: I don't mind Dress World. Dressic World is at least
- 10:36Speaker 2: very fun. I have my problems with it, but it like.
- 10:39Speaker 2: It's a fun movie. It's a good popcorn go to
- 10:42Speaker 2: the movie theater film two and three. Holy crap, isn't
- 10:50Speaker 2: that what a that's what? Oh my god, Jeff goldblueb
- 10:54Speaker 2: you what does he say like when they're they're in
- 10:57Speaker 2: the trice eratops, pooh, that is pile of shit. That's
- 11:00Speaker 2: what fallen Kingdom and whatever. The third one is Dominion.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Best part of Dominion was having the original three characters
- 11:11Speaker 2: back together. That was that was fun.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Yeah, that was nice.
- 11:14Speaker 2: They got the nostalgia feels out of me. There, well played.
- 11:18Speaker 2: But for now, to close out our our movie headlines,
- 11:21Speaker 2: we would be remiss in not bringing up the fact
- 11:25Speaker 2: that Francis Ford Coppola's project forty years in the making, Megalopolis. Megalopolis,
- 11:32Speaker 2: I can't even.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Say it, metal Akolips.
- 11:38Speaker 2: That's a good show. Megalopolis has premiered this week to
- 11:45Speaker 2: less than stellar reviews.
- 11:48Speaker 1: See, I didn't know. I didn't even know what came out.
- 11:50Speaker 1: I had no idea it was in theater.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Well that's I really haven't heard a lot of people
- 11:58Speaker 2: talking about it, which is, you know, it's funny. Actually
- 12:02Speaker 2: I heard more people talking about the viral campaign from
- 12:06Speaker 2: a couple of weeks ago when I forgot who was
- 12:10Speaker 2: bringing out the advertisement. But like they were, it almost
- 12:14Speaker 2: seems like they were purposely trying to get ahead of
- 12:17Speaker 2: the bad reviews on this movie because they were bringing
- 12:20Speaker 2: up like his other projects. They were like all the
- 12:22Speaker 2: reviews on The Godfather said it was terrible, all the
- 12:25Speaker 2: reviews on Apocalypse Now said it was garbage. But those
- 12:29Speaker 2: are film classics that you hold dearly to this day.
- 12:32Speaker 2: And like everyone packed this campaign and they were like,
- 12:35Speaker 2: nobody said that, nobody said that about those films.
- 12:38Speaker 1: You're lying, well, that's probably one. We'll just wait till
- 12:43Speaker 1: it comes out on streaming, I guess based on how
- 12:46Speaker 1: that's gone.
- 12:47Speaker 2: So hey, I will say this, I've heard, just just
- 12:51Speaker 2: very briefly from two reviews that Aubrey Plaza apparently is
- 12:54Speaker 2: like just awesome in this movie, which that's not really
- 12:57Speaker 2: that surprising because she's awesome and everything. Yeah, but yeah,
- 13:01Speaker 2: apparently we get to see a little bit more of
- 13:03Speaker 2: her acting chops other than what she's you know, mostly
- 13:06Speaker 2: known for probably parks and rec as far as you know,
- 13:11Speaker 2: that character goes right April. But yeah, so I don't know.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Best of luck to France, Bordavla and and and the film.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Maybe maybe they were right, maybe maybe the film reviews
- 13:25Speaker 2: are unfair. Will be the judge of that when we
- 13:29Speaker 2: get to it. But for now, I think it is
- 13:32Speaker 2: time we get to the nuts and bolts of today's episode.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Put it on your list. So, as we discussed last
- 13:43Speaker 2: time or earlier in this podcast, Nick and I are
- 13:46Speaker 2: going to take some take turns on pitching a show
- 13:49Speaker 2: or a movie to each other. On the docket for
- 13:53Speaker 2: today we have we have Over the Garden Wall and
- 13:57Speaker 2: Kate and Leopold. So last time, when we were trying
- 14:02Speaker 2: to figure out who was going to go first, Nick
- 14:04Speaker 2: just asserted himself forward and decided that.
- 14:08Speaker 1: He should pitch. Well, that happened because I am going first, sir.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Here we go.
- 14:16Speaker 2: It is there, it is. I offered you an olive branch.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Here until you bring it, until you bring a coin
- 14:24Speaker 1: to flip, I will be going first, sir.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, you know what. Good good, good job,
- 14:33Speaker 2: good job. You know I deserve that. I deserve that. Yeah,
- 14:38Speaker 2: I will today. Will I don't know does a does
- 14:41Speaker 2: a poker chip count? I don't even know why I
- 14:43Speaker 2: have this. I have a poker chip. I don't play poker.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Well it doesn't and it won't today.
- 14:48Speaker 2: So here we got the same didn't even work.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Two face die you know, take a little uh, just
- 14:54Speaker 1: cross out one side with a pen. Okay, So without
- 15:00Speaker 1: other ado, it's my.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Turn, pitch me your show war movie.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I today am pitching the movie called Kate and Leopold.
- 15:08Speaker 1: This is the Hugh Jackman movie that you and your
- 15:12Speaker 1: friends have not seen, came out in I believe two
- 15:16Speaker 1: thousand and one time frame. It is both comedy romantic comedy,
- 15:22Speaker 1: and my favorite and your favorite, a time travel film.
- 15:25Speaker 1: This is a Hugh Jackman time travel film directed by
- 15:29Speaker 1: James man.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Gold ohkrat Okay, Yeah, now that got.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Your attention, because for those of you who are wondering,
- 15:35Speaker 1: this is the same James who directed X Men Origins
- 15:39Speaker 1: Wolverine Logan recently Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny,
- 15:44Speaker 1: as well as Ford Versus Ferrari. And he's got like
- 15:48Speaker 1: a stellar list of other things that he's directed, but
- 15:50Speaker 1: this is like he directed this movie and worked on
- 15:53Speaker 1: the screenplay. The movie also stars Meg Ryan, liv Schreiber,
- 15:58Speaker 1: Bradley Whitford from The Westwig is in this movie. So
- 16:03Speaker 1: I know this is for you, Joe. Anyway, as I said,
- 16:08Speaker 1: this is, this movie's about time travel. It's a time
- 16:10Speaker 1: travel film. Joe and I love time travel. We have
- 16:12Speaker 1: our whole separate time travel draft that we've been doing
- 16:15Speaker 1: for the last year, which you can check out on
- 16:17Speaker 1: our YouTube channel. And yeah, I don't want to give
- 16:22Speaker 1: too much away, but essentially, Hugh Jackman plays a duke
- 16:25Speaker 1: from eighteen seventy six who finds himself in twenty first
- 16:29Speaker 1: century New York where he meets a girl Meg Ryan's
- 16:33Speaker 1: character and the way that he gets there. The time
- 16:38Speaker 1: travel aspect of this film is gravitational time portal. The
- 16:44Speaker 1: gravitational gravitational time portal. And I actually love the explanation
- 16:50Speaker 1: of like the time travel science of this film. And
- 16:53Speaker 1: so this is a must watch. Got to put it
- 16:55Speaker 1: on your list. It's fun and like a little ridiculous
- 17:01Speaker 1: of course, because like you know, we're talking about time travel.
- 17:03Speaker 1: But that's why it's great.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Katon leep, Right, let me go ahead and say this
- 17:08Speaker 2: already doesn't even seem fair, because like we're probably gonna
- 17:11Speaker 2: have to put this on the time travel list for
- 17:14Speaker 2: season two of our time travel series. Yes, so, Cheeter,
- 17:21Speaker 2: you already got me there, But I guess I'll play
- 17:23Speaker 2: the game and ask three questions anyway, Uh, Nick, what
- 17:28Speaker 2: would you say? Is? What would you say? Is the
- 17:32Speaker 2: hook of this movie? Like what what hooked you in?
- 17:35Speaker 1: How weird Hugh Jackman's character is because he's from eighteen
- 17:38Speaker 1: seventy six, so like and like pretty quickly he's in
- 17:41Speaker 1: twenty fourth century in New York, but he's dressed like
- 17:44Speaker 1: he's from eighteen seventy six the whole time. So it
- 17:46Speaker 1: looks like he's just doing like a Broadway play the
- 17:49Speaker 1: whole movie, because he's completely out of place, and it's
- 17:53Speaker 1: like fantastic. That's the hook, is just Hugh Jackman basically
- 17:57Speaker 1: doing like a Broadway play like in twenty first century
- 18:01Speaker 1: New York, like like at like the normal interactions. It's
- 18:05Speaker 1: so it's it's ridiculous so is he all right?
- 18:09Speaker 2: So the second question, so is it like, is it
- 18:11Speaker 2: more drama? Is it more comedy? Because it sounds like
- 18:14Speaker 2: it's silly too. You're suggesting a matim that exists, a
- 18:16Speaker 2: law of compelling gentlemen to lay hold of K nine
- 18:19Speaker 2: bomb movements.
- 18:19Speaker 1: I'm suggesting you picked the poop up. Now he thinks
- 18:22Speaker 1: you do. Yes, Oh, it's it's it's more comedy. It's
- 18:25Speaker 1: more comedy. Yeah, there's some drama in there, which is
- 18:28Speaker 1: why it's like, really, it's really cool, but it's it's
- 18:31Speaker 1: it's more comedy, at least for me.
- 18:35Speaker 2: What would you say is the weakest part about the film?
- 18:38Speaker 1: The weakest part is really like the storyline as far
- 18:41Speaker 1: as it being a time travel film and the sheer
- 18:45Speaker 1: like ridiculousness of everything that happens essentially with how he
- 18:49Speaker 1: gets there to the twenty first century, even though like
- 18:53Speaker 1: it is explained very well from a time travel perspective.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Overall, you're just like, this is.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Like insane, like what's going come on? So I don't
- 19:01Speaker 1: know if it's like necessarily weak, but it just makes
- 19:03Speaker 1: the whole the whole film. You're kind of a little
- 19:04Speaker 1: bit like thrown off because of how just how strange
- 19:10Speaker 1: the whole concept is.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Well, I'm in. I mean I'm in, of course I'm in.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Yeah, you're in, dude, I had you.
- 19:19Speaker 2: You Jackman. It's time time trouves like Healey's heel. Yeah,
- 19:23Speaker 2: we're gonna put it on our Time Trouble list anyway.
- 19:25Speaker 2: But it sounds like, actually I should make time to
- 19:27Speaker 2: watch this sooner than next year. Yah. Yeah, No, I'm
- 19:30Speaker 2: actually I kind of want to watch it. Tonight it
- 19:33Speaker 2: was on HBO.
- 19:33Speaker 1: I think it's still on HBO.
- 19:35Speaker 2: So that's a good call out. By the way, we
- 19:37Speaker 2: should definitely make that a point of this podcast game shows. Yeah,
- 19:41Speaker 2: where you can stream it?
- 19:43Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, maybe we.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Can get some some money from HBO when we start
- 19:47Speaker 2: doing that. Just let that hang there for that Max
- 19:55Speaker 2: executive who's listening to us.
- 19:57Speaker 1: What's your question?
- 20:01Speaker 2: Oh no, that was my third. But if you're giving
- 20:03Speaker 2: me a four, oh no, no, that we're good. No, I'm in.
- 20:07Speaker 2: I seriously, I'm in that You know how to speak
- 20:10Speaker 2: to me, nick I, I absolutely do want to watch
- 20:13Speaker 2: this movie. You actually told me about it. I think
- 20:15Speaker 2: like a couple months ago you were watching and you
- 20:19Speaker 2: were like, you texted me and you're like, you've got
- 20:20Speaker 2: to watch this movie and like then and there, like
- 20:23Speaker 2: it already sounded interesting, but I mean getting into it now,
- 20:27Speaker 2: it sounds like it's actually kind of like a perfect
- 20:29Speaker 2: film for me, a time travel movie that actually goes
- 20:32Speaker 2: out of its way to explain time travel and then
- 20:35Speaker 2: not take itself too seriously and it just be fun.
- 20:38Speaker 2: It sounds fun, that's it. I'm yes, all right, Admittedly
- 20:43Speaker 2: I am pitching something that's going to be a bit
- 20:45Speaker 2: harder here. Yeah, typical, so difficult, you know what. Go
- 20:49Speaker 2: for the big swings is what I'm all about, all right,
- 20:53Speaker 2: go for the you might miss, but man, it's gonna
- 20:56Speaker 2: be spectacular when you do. Okay, So, Nick, what I
- 21:01Speaker 2: am pitching to you is once again another animated show Jesus, which, yeah,
- 21:06Speaker 2: if you missed the first episode, Nick Nick has told
- 21:09Speaker 2: us animation isn't necessarily his thing. It's not can be, it's.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Hardly ever, hardly ever is my thing. And the first
- 21:18Speaker 1: two Joe's pitching me animated stuff like this is crazy,
- 21:20Speaker 1: this is this is my worst nightmare at a bar,
- 21:22Speaker 1: somebody pitching me an animated TV show or a movie.
- 21:25Speaker 1: And what is Joe doing that exact nightmare on this podcast?
- 21:31Speaker 2: Can you can you give us? Can you give us
- 21:32Speaker 2: like some exceptions to the rule, like some animations that
- 21:35Speaker 2: you're like, all right, No, I mean like I would
- 21:38Speaker 2: mess with.
- 21:38Speaker 1: That dragon ball z you yo Zoid's you U hacka show.
- 21:43Speaker 1: That's the list moving on.
- 21:45Speaker 2: All right, So anime from the early two thousand. Yeah,
- 21:47Speaker 2: this is gonna be a hard pitch, all right, Okay,
- 21:53Speaker 2: So Nick, let me go ahead and first off start
- 21:56Speaker 2: by saying, I have I am that friend that will
- 22:01Speaker 2: take my friends and assault them with TV shows or
- 22:04Speaker 2: movies that they have never heard of and don't want
- 22:06Speaker 2: to see. And sometimes that does not work out, which
- 22:12Speaker 2: that's fine, right, big swings. I have never missed with
- 22:16Speaker 2: Over the Garden Wall. I have made people who don't
- 22:19Speaker 2: care about animation whatsoever just sit down and watch it
- 22:24Speaker 2: and they walk away loving it. It is I don't
- 22:29Speaker 2: think I ever miss in saying Over the Garden Wall
- 22:31Speaker 2: is a masterpiece. It came out in twenty thirteen. It's
- 22:34Speaker 2: ten episodes. Each episode is ten minutes long, and it
- 22:39Speaker 2: is astonishing the amount of character development and story that
- 22:44Speaker 2: is worked into ten minutes in ten episodes. It is phenomenal.
- 22:50Speaker 2: I'm getting goosebumps. Honestly thinking about it is it is
- 22:53Speaker 2: such a great show. And the reason why I'm pitching
- 22:56Speaker 2: it to you, Nick is because I watch it every
- 22:59Speaker 2: year at around the time. It is the perfect fall
- 23:02Speaker 2: Halloween thing to put on. It is equal parts funny
- 23:07Speaker 2: and mysterious. What Over the Garden Wall Is It's about
- 23:11Speaker 2: two brothers who get lost in the woods. They're two
- 23:15Speaker 2: young brothers, ones like a young teenager, the other is
- 23:18Speaker 2: like a younger child, and they're both a little goofy,
- 23:22Speaker 2: and one seems to understand that they are in a
- 23:25Speaker 2: very strange and dangerous place. The other is just pure
- 23:30Speaker 2: comedy gold, and it's just a goofy little kid who
- 23:33Speaker 2: just doesn't either understand or care that they are probably
- 23:38Speaker 2: in peril. The best thing I could compare What Over
- 23:41Speaker 2: the Garden Wall Is is a jersey like a fun
- 23:44Speaker 2: version of Dante's Inferno. It is just two brothers just
- 23:48Speaker 2: trying to go home, and every episode is just another
- 23:52Speaker 2: like stage of the forest that they are trapped in,
- 23:57Speaker 2: or I should say the unknown. The forest is referred
- 24:01Speaker 2: to the unknown, and the deeper they go into the unknown,
- 24:05Speaker 2: the more dangerous it becomes. However, it is always a
- 24:07Speaker 2: good time. It is always fun. But I will tell
- 24:12Speaker 2: you there are two moments in this show that always
- 24:15Speaker 2: that always reduced me, like at least to like one tier,
- 24:18Speaker 2: Like it gets one tier out of me, because man,
- 24:20Speaker 2: this show knows how to punch you. It is very fun.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Star study cast Elijah Wood is the main character. John
- 24:29Speaker 2: Cleees plays multiple roles in this in this mini series.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Christopher Lloyd is also a huge character in this mini series.
- 24:36Speaker 2: I really cannot recommend a story more than I can
- 24:41Speaker 2: recommend Over the Garden Wall. It is a masterclass in
- 24:44Speaker 2: how to tella a short story very quickly.
- 24:48Speaker 1: All Right, I can't believe them saying this. I might
- 24:50Speaker 1: have to add it to my animated list that still
- 24:53Speaker 1: has not really been We have a special Yeah, we do.
- 24:57Speaker 1: And I might actually move this above Delicious and Dungeon,
- 24:59Speaker 1: which is what you pitched me last time. But I
- 25:02Speaker 1: think this, I'm going to move this up above it
- 25:03Speaker 1: because you had me. I was I was getting ready
- 25:07Speaker 1: to throw the book at you, but then you said
- 25:11Speaker 1: ten episodes ten minutes each, and I was like, you
- 25:13Speaker 1: know what.
- 25:14Speaker 2: That is doable.
- 25:15Speaker 1: That is doable. It's very digestible and it sounds fun. Yeah,
- 25:19Speaker 1: Elijah Wood, Christopher Lloyd, John Cleese Like, that's pretty freaking
- 25:24Speaker 1: fantastic cast for an animated show. Over the Garden Wall. Okay,
- 25:29Speaker 1: it's on the list, Joe, it's on the list.
- 25:31Speaker 2: We're not even asking three questions, Nick's just it.
- 25:33Speaker 1: No, it's on the list. I'm going to ask you
- 25:35Speaker 1: three questions, maybe three questions. One of those is what
- 25:42Speaker 1: is like what was like the main hook for you
- 25:47Speaker 1: when you first saw this, Like how quick did it
- 25:50Speaker 1: take for you to be like, oh, I'm in? Is
- 25:52Speaker 1: it like five minutes in? Is it episode three? What's
- 25:55Speaker 1: my commitments? It gets a hook?
- 25:57Speaker 2: So it's the first episode probably because, like I think,
- 26:01Speaker 2: the first episode does an amazing job in telling you
- 26:04Speaker 2: everything you need to know about what the next nine
- 26:06Speaker 2: episodes are going to be. Like, Yeah, it's like I said,
- 26:10Speaker 2: it sets the stage very quickly for a all the
- 26:13Speaker 2: principal characters who are going to be involved, uh, and
- 26:16Speaker 2: then it sets like that very like creepy mystique that's
- 26:21Speaker 2: like hanging in the air and like you don't quite
- 26:24Speaker 2: understand what's going on, but then also just being having
- 26:29Speaker 2: a great sense of humor just just it's just yeah,
- 26:32Speaker 2: it's it's it's fun to watch. It's just very fun, awesome.
- 26:35Speaker 1: And then my other question is if they're if there's
- 26:38Speaker 1: a reason that I would not continue watching this after
- 26:43Speaker 1: the second episode, what would.
- 26:44Speaker 2: It be oh interesting, hmm, if there was a reason
- 26:49Speaker 2: not to watch it. Okay, So for you specifically, I
- 26:53Speaker 2: think I don't know if I don't know if you
- 26:56Speaker 2: would click with the character of Greg. Greg is the
- 26:59Speaker 2: young brother, and Greg, like I said, Greg is just
- 27:03Speaker 2: pure comedy because he either doesn't understand or doesn't care
- 27:06Speaker 2: about the situation that they are in. And because of that,
- 27:09Speaker 2: he's supposed to be the annoying little brother. Right. So
- 27:14Speaker 2: you personally, I could see you like seeing this character
- 27:17Speaker 2: in the first episode and being like, that's stupid, but
- 27:23Speaker 2: Greg is worth it because Greg really is the goat.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Like he is the goat. Like you get to the end,
- 27:28Speaker 2: you're like, this kid rules. Okay. If I could compare him,
- 27:33Speaker 2: I don't know if you've seen this, if I could
- 27:35Speaker 2: compare him to a character you've definitely seen the meme
- 27:39Speaker 2: the Bobba Duke, which is celebrating ten years congratulations on
- 27:42Speaker 2: being a staple in the horror franchise. The child in
- 27:47Speaker 2: the Bobba Duke in the first half of the movie
- 27:49Speaker 2: is played off as the worst, most annoying child in
- 27:52Speaker 2: all of This is actually too mean for Greg, This
- 27:54Speaker 2: is way too mean. But the transformation is similar. Played
- 27:59Speaker 2: Off is the worst child of all time. But then
- 28:01Speaker 2: like you get past the halfway point of that movie
- 28:03Speaker 2: and you're like, this is the best child of all time.
- 28:08Speaker 2: I wouldn't say he starts at that bottom. I actually
- 28:11Speaker 2: loved him very quickly, but as you progress through the series,
- 28:15Speaker 2: you're like, this is the best character in this show.
- 28:17Speaker 1: All right, all right, I mean it's intriguing. And then
- 28:20Speaker 1: my third question is where can I watch this.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Great question? I believe is on Netflix? If not, no,
- 28:28Speaker 2: I'm sorry, it's actually on Hulu. It is on Hulu
- 28:30Speaker 2: right now.
- 28:31Speaker 1: All right, So Disney Plus there you go.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Yeah, actually that's where I've been seeing it because yeah,
- 28:37Speaker 2: Disney's you know, showing off all of its like Halloween stuff,
- 28:40Speaker 2: and yeah, over the Garden Wall is on there.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Nice All right.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Nick. Let me just say, like, as a final note here,
- 28:46Speaker 2: it's not just one of my favorite animations of all time,
- 28:48Speaker 2: it might be one of my favorite stories of all time.
- 28:50Speaker 1: It's okay, all right, big statement from g yes, that
- 28:55Speaker 1: is our list.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Hopefully those make your list. If they do, let us know.
