- 0:14Speaker 2: Drama Darling.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Hello and welcome back to Drama Darling. I'm Amy Phillips
- 0:23Speaker 1: and joining me today my co host Megan Greno from
- 0:27Speaker 1: Gross Point, Michigan.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Hell. Hello, the gross Pointers have for united once again.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I am so sorry for the delay, Darlings. I know
- 0:35Speaker 1: you love this show, Gross Point guard in Society, so
- 0:38Speaker 1: you're your best gross Pointers are here to talk about it.
- 0:41Speaker 1: We've got like three episodes to talk about. We're essentially
- 0:44Speaker 1: gonna clump them all together and just generally speak about it.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Speak to it, speak on it, speak about it, speak
- 0:51Speaker 1: over it, speak under it. Just you know, dig around it.
- 0:55Speaker 2: You naw, We're here to do it direction on this thing.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Yeah, We're we're gonna let the frost, you know, the
- 1:02Speaker 1: frost kind of what simmer down like warm up?
- 1:07Speaker 2: I suppose, yes, Yeah, Well frost it up.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Frost it up and warm it up. Hey, by the way,
- 1:12Speaker 1: before we even talk about gross plant Gardens Society, your
- 1:16Speaker 1: gal Megan Granno from Gross Plain, Michigan is in a
- 1:20Speaker 1: movie with Freaking Ben Affleck.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Freaking Ben Affleck Theeters Now.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Baby Megan Grano, star of the Cinema Stage television and podcasting. Okay,
- 1:37Speaker 1: what is your role in this movie? What is the movie?
- 1:40Speaker 1: Tell us everything.
- 1:41Speaker 2: First of all, Ben Affleck is in a movie with me. Yes, okay,
- 1:50Speaker 2: totally totally kidding. I am in this movie for all
- 1:54Speaker 2: of ten or fifteen seconds. But it is such a
- 1:57Speaker 2: fun scene. What is Ben a movie? The movie is
- 2:00Speaker 2: called The Accountant Too. Thank you for getting on.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Yes, I love that movie. I mean I love The
- 2:06Speaker 1: Accountant one, so I cannot wait to see Accountant two.
- 2:10Speaker 2: It's real fun. And The Accountant to Ben Affleck plays
- 2:13Speaker 2: this character Christian Wolf and accountant who's also a hit man.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Who doesn't love that premise?
- 2:19Speaker 1: I mean, come on, it's like straight out of gross
- 2:23Speaker 1: Playing Garden Society.
- 2:24Speaker 2: It is. And he decides in The Accountant Too that
- 2:29Speaker 2: he needs to have a love life, so he goes
- 2:31Speaker 2: to a speed dating festival, the Boise, Idaho Romance Festival.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Oh my god, no, okay.
- 2:38Speaker 2: I'm one of the women who speed dates him. But
- 2:40Speaker 2: as you know, he's on the spectrum, so he has
- 2:43Speaker 2: a really hard time dating and the scene is very funny.
- 2:47Speaker 2: It's not making fun of people who are on the
- 2:49Speaker 2: spectrum at all. It's more he rigs the whole system
- 2:55Speaker 2: because he knows. He's so smart. He knows if he
- 2:58Speaker 2: puts words on his profile like danger, like real, all
- 3:04Speaker 2: these fun keywords, that women will line up and want
- 3:07Speaker 2: to date him. And sure enough, it's just tons of
- 3:10Speaker 2: women who want to date him. But then when we
- 3:12Speaker 2: sit down and meet him, he's so boring and a
- 3:14Speaker 2: terrible conversation.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Is oh great, okay, and so really, what is your character? Like,
- 3:22Speaker 1: what's your character's name and what's she like?
- 3:25Speaker 2: Well, I'm Annie, and what we got to do a
- 3:27Speaker 2: lot of improv I got to give a shout out
- 3:29Speaker 2: to Gavin O'Connor, the director, because my character is there.
- 3:34Speaker 2: She's a you know, my age, she's middle forties and
- 3:38Speaker 2: she is single and wants to have kids. Okay, and
- 3:43Speaker 2: he Ben Affleck as Christian Wolf the accountant says that
- 3:47Speaker 2: that's statistically improbable and then begin to crush my dreams
- 3:52Speaker 2: with how improbable it is to be mid forties and
- 3:55Speaker 2: get pregnant. And there was a lot of money mind
- 3:58Speaker 2: or it was just a hysterical it was. I mean,
- 4:01Speaker 2: I think Gavin probably cut it for time, but it
- 4:04Speaker 2: was so funny with him talking to me about the
- 4:06Speaker 2: quality of my eggs.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 4:10Speaker 2: No, it was great.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Yea, So so you said a lot hit the cutting
- 4:14Speaker 1: room floor, so you how like, how long did were
- 4:17Speaker 1: you rolling film for? Would you say?
- 4:21Speaker 2: I would say about twenty minutes. They let us do
- 4:23Speaker 2: improv It was such a ball that it was just
- 4:27Speaker 2: oh my gosh. And I will say Ben Affleck was
- 4:30Speaker 2: a riot to improvise with as this character. He was
- 4:34Speaker 2: so funny and in between takes he would just be
- 4:36Speaker 2: cracking me up and wow, he was great.
- 4:40Speaker 1: So he was funny, and I imagine he was nice.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Oh he was super nice and just open to try anything,
- 4:48Speaker 2: which was really fun. I mean we went in a
- 4:50Speaker 2: lot of directions and it. I had just a blast.
- 4:55Speaker 2: He was so fun.
- 4:56Speaker 1: How did you get over the fact that you were
- 4:59Speaker 1: improvis with Ben Affleck? How did?
- 5:02Speaker 2: I was so nervous about it. I think we all were,
- 5:06Speaker 2: and they made it was even more nervous because like
- 5:10Speaker 2: we're in the room waiting and every you know, he's
- 5:13Speaker 2: the star of the whole thing, so you're waiting there, waiting, waiting,
- 5:17Speaker 2: and then it's like in Ben and he's super tall
- 5:20Speaker 2: and really buff and like just quite a presence. So
- 5:24Speaker 2: when he walked in, I was like, oh.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, that's intimidating.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Yes, but then he was super nice and easy to
- 5:33Speaker 2: work with.
- 5:33Speaker 1: And were you the first one when he sat down?
- 5:36Speaker 1: Were you the first person that he was improvising with?
- 5:38Speaker 2: No, I felt really okay, Like my heart went out
- 5:42Speaker 2: for this girl, Lisel who was the first, because that
- 5:45Speaker 2: was She was really nervous too. We all were like
- 5:47Speaker 2: we were sitting together. The women who were speaking roles
- 5:51Speaker 2: dating him were like, oh gosh, this is nerve wracking.
- 5:53Speaker 2: But he ended up being so nice, Like we had
- 5:56Speaker 2: been told by various people on set, like do not
- 5:58Speaker 2: call him Ben, don't address him as anything except Christian.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Character name is Christian? Okay, got it, got chat and
- 6:05Speaker 2: really strict like by them. And I don't know if
- 6:09Speaker 2: they were his handlers or who they were. But then,
- 6:12Speaker 2: for an example, when I sat down with him and
- 6:14Speaker 2: it was the first cut, he's like, hey, so, what's
- 6:16Speaker 2: your name? And I was like, uh, you're like Ben Affleck.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, uh, Kristen, Kristen Dody, I know,
- 6:24Speaker 1: Christian Chattle with who am I? I don't know?
- 6:28Speaker 2: Do any of those sound right? I was?
- 6:33Speaker 1: He he was like, what's your name? And he wanted
- 6:36Speaker 1: to chat it up.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, yeah, and I and I had my
- 6:38Speaker 2: name tag on, so I was like, thinking of all them,
- 6:40Speaker 2: I was like, I'm Annie, I'm Annie, and he's like Christian,
- 6:44Speaker 2: pardon you're Christian. And he's like, you're the same name
- 6:49Speaker 2: as your your character. And I was like, oh, I
- 6:53Speaker 2: mean I'm I'm Megan. And he's like, oh, cool, all right,
- 6:56Speaker 2: and then just starts like chatting about stuff. And I
- 6:59Speaker 2: was like, I didn't think I was allowed to say
- 7:00Speaker 2: my name anything. So I was like real scared. But
- 7:03Speaker 2: oh my god, oh that's so nice. No.
- 7:06Speaker 1: I couldn't understand why you would be flustered because you've
- 7:09Speaker 1: been given such serious and strict parameters and you don't
- 7:13Speaker 1: know what's gonna happen if if he is asking your
- 7:16Speaker 1: character name or you know, I would have totally done
- 7:18Speaker 1: the same thing.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Meanwhile, he's probably like this lady is so intimidated she
- 7:23Speaker 2: can't remember her name.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Also, and it's like, Ben, do you know what your
- 7:27Speaker 1: handlers are saying to people not to call you?
- 7:30Speaker 2: Know?
- 7:30Speaker 1: I mean so, but I totally understand that they have
- 7:33Speaker 1: to like do that because they don't want any people
- 7:37Speaker 1: who may not be you know salt of the earth
- 7:41Speaker 1: and have a good you know, grounding in reality that
- 7:45Speaker 1: they won't start to freak out under the pressure and
- 7:48Speaker 1: start to.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Be like you know what I mean, Ben Wink and.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Start to just be weird and quirky and so oh wow.
- 7:56Speaker 1: But he was like, no, I'm dropping I'm dropping this down,
- 7:59Speaker 1: and this gal is great and I want to talk
- 8:01Speaker 1: to her.
- 8:02Speaker 2: He was just so great, and he sat such a
- 8:04Speaker 2: nice tone and was just so much fun too. It
- 8:08Speaker 2: was It was a blast. It was so fun. What
- 8:12Speaker 2: a real, like surreal moment.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Very fun, I cannot even imagine. Okay, so, uh it's
- 8:19Speaker 1: in theaters now. The accountant to everybody, go see it,
- 8:23Speaker 1: Go see the amazing Megan Grano on the silver screen. Well,
- 8:27Speaker 1: thank you, Philip, I mean, and here you are on
- 8:31Speaker 1: this little podcast. I'm just so excited.
- 8:33Speaker 2: So someone told me that one other thing and then
- 8:36Speaker 2: we're getting started, is that there's another guy in the
- 8:38Speaker 2: movie from gross Point, JK Simmons.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Always JK Simmons from gross Point.
- 8:42Speaker 2: I didn't know that, but someone told me that.
- 8:44Speaker 1: I had no idea.
- 8:46Speaker 2: I don't know if that's true.
- 8:47Speaker 1: We'll have to fact check that. Okay, I'm sorry. Okay, no,
- 8:50Speaker 1: that's great to know. If he is, Wow, that would
- 8:52Speaker 1: be really cool.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:53Speaker 1: So speaking of gross Point, why don't we talk about
- 8:57Speaker 1: Grossmunt Garden Society. Let's all welcome ourselves in welcome, Thank you,
- 9:04Speaker 1: thank you. So we have finally gotten to the gardening competition,
- 9:10Speaker 1: which is very exciting, the Southeastern Michigan Gardening Competition, where,
- 9:17Speaker 1: you know, just on the heels of it, we have
- 9:20Speaker 1: Theodore who's obviously representing who's the president of the Bloomfield
- 9:24Speaker 1: Hills Gardens Society or club or what have you. And
- 9:28Speaker 1: so Theodore and Maryland have a little face off over
- 9:30Speaker 1: this trophy and they're talking about like what they have
- 9:34Speaker 1: in store, and we see Ricou the judge, the landscaping
- 9:40Speaker 1: legend who apparently did landscaping for Oprah's estate.
- 9:45Speaker 2: With Kou what a name. I love, the only one name.
- 9:49Speaker 2: They say, he only has one name, Recou.
- 9:53Speaker 1: The White Gloves, and I love like later on when
- 9:56Speaker 1: he was judging, and I think Bertie was like, is
- 9:58Speaker 1: that a mime? Like I don't know what to happen
- 10:00Speaker 1: right now? What a fun comedic character that they threw
- 10:05Speaker 1: in there. That was just so great for them, and
- 10:08Speaker 1: it was so fun.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I loved watching what they did with that, Like, what
- 10:11Speaker 2: a great way to make this cup even more silly,
- 10:15Speaker 2: like to you know it's silly. I guess you're thinking
- 10:18Speaker 2: of gardening cup, you know, this contest over whose garden
- 10:22Speaker 2: looks better, and then to take it to that level
- 10:24Speaker 2: that you have recoup there, it was just so great.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Riku was amazing. I was so thrilled that he got
- 10:29Speaker 1: some time with us, and that Marilyn was so freaked
- 10:33Speaker 1: out by what theodoorre whispered in her ear that she
- 10:36Speaker 1: went ahead and tried and secured these ridiculous Easter Island
- 10:43Speaker 1: statues and put them in the garden and smashed us
- 10:47Speaker 1: so many of their flowers and didn't get approval from
- 10:50Speaker 1: the club.
- 10:52Speaker 2: No, she did it totally on her own, and it
- 10:55Speaker 2: was I feel like people were not happy.
- 10:59Speaker 1: They were so livid.
- 11:01Speaker 2: I did. I thought those looked terrible. I was like, man,
- 11:04Speaker 2: I don't know why that, of all things Maryland.
- 11:07Speaker 1: I just got back from Disney World. So it did
- 11:09Speaker 1: look like, you know, we were immersed in some sort
- 11:14Speaker 1: of ride or habitat or resort themed resort. You know,
- 11:19Speaker 1: that was like spectacular and so but my god, but.
- 11:24Speaker 2: It reminded you of your vacation, like, oh, on theme,
- 11:29Speaker 2: I love this. The gross Point Garden has been transformed
- 11:33Speaker 2: into a South American paradite.
- 11:37Speaker 1: The when we went to the Avatar ride in uh
- 11:41Speaker 1: it was that was actually at Animal Kingdom Park. They
- 11:45Speaker 1: have an Avatar thing. Did you see Avatar?
- 11:48Speaker 2: Yeah a long time, I don't remember.
- 11:50Speaker 1: I mean yeah, it was blue longest blue creatures. You
- 11:54Speaker 1: get the idea. But you know that like huge tree
- 11:57Speaker 1: that they all lived in or like got their life,
- 12:00Speaker 1: you know, yes or not they didn't. They didn't live
- 12:03Speaker 1: in that one tree, but that was essentially you know
- 12:05Speaker 1: the tree that I'm talking about. Well, I know the
- 12:07Speaker 1: Channimal Kingdom. They have a recreation of that tree.
- 12:11Speaker 2: You know.
- 12:12Speaker 1: That's why. I mean, that's what it was. Giving Avatar
- 12:15Speaker 1: tree to me.
- 12:18Speaker 2: The Easter Island statues were giving. Giving Avatar tree at
- 12:23Speaker 2: Animal Avatar Tree would have been more on point for
- 12:26Speaker 2: that that fourth category where they said, I forget what
- 12:29Speaker 2: the word was, but hard escape on four things like
- 12:35Speaker 2: what the garden looks like, But the fourth one was
- 12:36Speaker 2: what hard escape details are at it?
- 12:40Speaker 1: I do wonder you know, obviously we didn't see the garden.
- 12:44Speaker 1: I mean every single intricacy. I mean, we did get
- 12:46Speaker 1: the broad strokes of it, but like, what were their
- 12:49Speaker 1: hard escapes? You know, I mean before that, what were
- 12:52Speaker 1: they because garden domes?
- 12:55Speaker 2: Were they little trolls? I don't know.
- 12:59Speaker 1: That. When Theodore made that slam about gnomes, and I
- 13:02Speaker 1: was like, oh, shocking to so many listeners and watchers
- 13:07Speaker 1: of the show. But what are you going to do?
- 13:09Speaker 1: I did laugh when they got eight points deducted for
- 13:11Speaker 1: cultural appropriation.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Oh yeah, topic right now. I love that. I love
- 13:16Speaker 2: that they got in trouble for that. There's so much
- 13:18Speaker 2: of that going on. In fact, I had heard not
- 13:21Speaker 2: long ago that and I have them on right now.
- 13:23Speaker 2: The wearing earrings is cultural appropriation. I all know that.
- 13:27Speaker 1: What Oh dear, oh.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Dear, Well, now, thank you for the support.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Hold on, I wonder if it's the hoop earrings where
- 13:36Speaker 1: they make the huge holes in their lobes.
- 13:41Speaker 2: So.
- 13:42Speaker 1: It could be exactly right, Yeah, that would make way
- 13:46Speaker 1: more sense. Yeah, that is an African tribal thing where
- 13:49Speaker 1: they they expand like they expand their lobes you know,
- 13:55Speaker 1: over the years. So that and that is deemed to
- 13:58Speaker 1: be like an exceptional trait, you know, when the more
- 14:01Speaker 1: your lobes are the bigger the holes are, you know
- 14:04Speaker 1: what I'm saying. And that's something in our culture where like,
- 14:09Speaker 1: you know, the cool kids were kind of doing like
- 14:10Speaker 1: the kids.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Who were I just want to keep hearing you say
- 14:14Speaker 2: lobes like thobes.
- 14:16Speaker 1: How about this one Lisa Lobes. And I heard that
- 14:22Speaker 1: she's been canceled because her last name is cultural appropriation.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Oh she deserves it, yeah yeah.
- 14:30Speaker 1: But AnyWho, So after this horrific thing that happened with
- 14:36Speaker 1: the competition, Bloomfield Hills, they win, okay, and and then
- 14:45Speaker 1: Donna speaks up and is like, so passed in the garden,
- 14:48Speaker 1: and she was just like, we can in Peach Art,
- 14:52Speaker 1: we can in peach Maryland, Maryland, Maryland, I like said,
- 14:56Speaker 1: Maryland the state.
- 14:58Speaker 2: And then she vacation there a mighty Maryland good.
- 15:03Speaker 1: And then all of a sudden, the whole like club
- 15:06Speaker 1: agrees to impeach her, and then you know, give the
- 15:10Speaker 1: reins over to Catherine. Yes, And then of course we
- 15:14Speaker 1: find out that Bloomfield Hills is disqualified because Bertie was
- 15:20Speaker 1: out and saw Recoup and Theodore out and having a
- 15:23Speaker 1: little in appropriate inappropriate context.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Yes, Teta tet leg a leg Dong Dong. I don't know,
- 15:34Speaker 2: we don't we didn't see Dong dong.
- 15:36Speaker 1: We have to assume. And then that was just great.
- 15:41Speaker 1: And so the whole Maryland takedown of them was fantastic,
- 15:44Speaker 1: and then her just bringing that trophy in, which was
- 15:47Speaker 1: by default, but what are you gonna do? They'll take
- 15:49Speaker 1: it right, No, that's.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Right, and so I just want the message here was
- 15:52Speaker 2: so clear to me that Bloomfield Hills just sucks, you know,
- 15:56Speaker 2: and God pointed better. We are way better, and that
- 16:01Speaker 2: the show, I.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Mean truly, you know, gross point isn't messy at all,
- 16:05Speaker 1: and and they deserve their trophy. Well. I did love
- 16:10Speaker 1: the scene when Marilyn was going to be told by
- 16:14Speaker 1: Catherine that she was impeached, and so she goes to
- 16:18Speaker 1: her house and clearly Marilyn knows what's up, and it's
- 16:21Speaker 1: just like, I'll give you some coffee. I resign, you know,
- 16:25Speaker 1: and so she's like one of it's kind of like
- 16:27Speaker 1: a housewife thing where they know they're going to get fired,
- 16:30Speaker 1: and so they are like I quit at a Cohen
- 16:33Speaker 1: like calls and I was like, you've had such a
- 16:35Speaker 1: great run, I quit Andy.
- 16:37Speaker 2: You know, they're trying to beat you to it, like
- 16:40Speaker 2: they just want to save that last bit of face,
- 16:42Speaker 2: like no way, no, you're not going to do this
- 16:44Speaker 2: to me, no, no, no, I quit.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Yes.
- 16:46Speaker 2: I loved that. Yeah, but in the end, yeah, I
- 16:51Speaker 2: loved how Catherine handled it because I did think Catherine
- 16:54Speaker 2: was about to just drop on her in that moment. Yeah,
- 16:57Speaker 2: you know, you really screwed this up. Then Catherine sees
- 17:01Speaker 2: the nasty relationship between Maryland and her husband, Buzz the mayor, Yeah, Buzz,
- 17:08Speaker 2: you know. Then she realizes like, I'm not gonna do
- 17:11Speaker 2: this to this woman. And I loved that for Catherine.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I was women supporting women. That was the supporting women.
- 17:17Speaker 2: In the end, we lift each other up, you know,
- 17:19Speaker 2: the tide lifts all boats. I'm not sure the in
- 17:22Speaker 2: the Saint Claire.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Late late Saint Claire when the when those what were
- 17:28Speaker 1: those muscles called when they oh, the zebra muscles, the
- 17:31Speaker 1: zebra muscles, remember that, gross pointers. The zebra muscles came in.
- 17:35Speaker 1: That was like early aughts, or maybe that was in
- 17:37Speaker 1: the nineties. I don't know.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Oh, I like calling it the aughts. Let's do that.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Earlys late nineties, the zebra muscles were taking over and yeah,
- 17:46Speaker 1: the water level was down, right.
- 17:50Speaker 2: I don't even remember what we did about them, and
- 17:52Speaker 2: we meaning Amy and I.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Because we were we were fighting hard against those zebra muscles.
- 17:57Speaker 2: You know.
- 17:58Speaker 1: I think time allowed them to eventually find their way out.
- 18:03Speaker 1: I don't know how they left what they were doing,
- 18:06Speaker 1: but it was bad. It was bad for Lake Saint Clair.
- 18:09Speaker 2: It was bad. But I like that idea that neither
- 18:12Speaker 2: of us know. So we'll just say time took care
- 18:14Speaker 2: of it.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, right, Time took care of it. But anyway,
- 18:18Speaker 1: so yes, they she rose above it as the water
- 18:22Speaker 1: level rose a little bit after the zebra muscles left,
- 18:26Speaker 1: and you know, we got some of our water lines back.
- 18:30Speaker 1: But Catherine had compassion in the end, and that was
- 18:33Speaker 1: really nice. But she did somewhat takeover, you know, garden society,
- 18:38Speaker 1: and she is becoming quite maniacal, much like her predecessor.
- 18:43Speaker 2: I think it's I mean, really showing us laying down
- 18:46Speaker 2: that when you when you have power, power corrupts. I mean,
- 18:50Speaker 2: I'm not saying it's corrupt. It's hard to corrupt corrupt. Yeah,
- 18:53Speaker 2: that's true.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know, your your own issues can affect
- 18:57Speaker 1: your control and your you're up. Yes, Okay, So we
- 19:02Speaker 1: also got that Brett is laundering money for Connor's friend.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Yes, I steve that the car guy. I was really like,
- 19:13Speaker 2: you know, and Brett. I love learning about him. He's
- 19:15Speaker 2: so upstanding that as he figures that out, he's like,
- 19:19Speaker 2: no way am I doing that. He wasn't like, you know,
- 19:23Speaker 2: I'm watching that. I'm like, maybe he'll just take the
- 19:24Speaker 2: money from this one and then get out of it
- 19:27Speaker 2: for the next one. But he no, He's like, I'm
- 19:29Speaker 2: not taking any laundered money. It just made me like
- 19:32Speaker 2: his character so much more than that creepy Connor. I'm
- 19:34Speaker 2: gonna start calling him creepy Connor.
- 19:36Speaker 1: He is, he's creepy Connor. And the fact that he
- 19:39Speaker 1: got he had to pack his stuff and go.
- 19:42Speaker 2: From the law firm. Yes, yeah, yeah, that's a yeah.
- 19:47Speaker 2: We learned a lot about him with him, like seeing
- 19:49Speaker 2: his colleague I suddenly they show us his colleagues don't
- 19:53Speaker 2: like him at his law Firm's right, he's sort of
- 19:55Speaker 2: a scumbag and we really see that.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Yeah, And and of course Brett tells Melissa he's like,
- 20:02Speaker 1: she is not a good guy. And they have their
- 20:04Speaker 1: whole thing. The kids get RSV. Connor's totally you know,
- 20:09Speaker 1: skeeving out about it.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Yes, it's absolutely hysterical. It did remind me of me
- 20:16Speaker 2: wearing like a mask in gloves and like cleaning the
- 20:18Speaker 2: light switches like dirty, too many germs. Get them out
- 20:21Speaker 2: of here, send them to Brett.
- 20:24Speaker 1: There's definitely like, you know, I see where Connor was
- 20:27Speaker 1: coming from. You can have the mask and gloves on
- 20:30Speaker 1: and still completely be immersed in the sickness and take
- 20:34Speaker 1: care of them. And you know, I'm sure their house
- 20:37Speaker 1: is big enough for him to quarantine and not be
- 20:39Speaker 1: away from me. The house is enormous.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Yeah, stay in the basement. That's what those gross point
- 20:44Speaker 2: basements are for. Yeh.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Garants completely furnished and for sure has a drop ceiling.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Ceiling, probably its own door. I'm guessing he could enter
- 20:57Speaker 2: an exit out of that door.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Truly. Yes. But they so, Melissa and Brett have a
- 21:05Speaker 1: little like back to parenting together and this feels good.
- 21:08Speaker 1: And Melissa's seeing Connor for you know, who he is,
- 21:11Speaker 1: and now he's seeing Brett for the things that he sacrificed,
- 21:13Speaker 1: and they have a little kiss and Connor's p I
- 21:17Speaker 1: got it on film.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Yeah, that took a turn to me. I was shocked
- 21:23Speaker 2: that he caught that on film. I didn't know where,
- 21:25Speaker 2: you know, I thought, he I guess he's parked outside.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Yeah, so he's just doing the most mediocre PI work,
- 21:32Speaker 1: you know, is if that's the only PI you could get. Yeah,
- 21:36Speaker 1: But so that was it was cute to see them
- 21:39Speaker 1: come together for a minute and at least see Melissa
- 21:42Speaker 1: see the forest of the trees about what she you know,
- 21:45Speaker 1: the decisions that she's made and she could be wrong,
- 21:48Speaker 1: and where they went wrong.
- 21:49Speaker 2: And you are you rooting for them to stay together
- 21:52Speaker 2: as a couple or how do you feel?
- 21:54Speaker 1: Yeah? Good question. So I wonder, like, I mean, obviously
- 21:58Speaker 1: for the kids, that'd be great. So I mean I'm
- 22:01Speaker 1: gonna have to say yes, but because at this point
- 22:05Speaker 1: rooting for Alice and Brett would be so messy and
- 22:09Speaker 1: just yeah, but I don't think that Brett has it
- 22:13Speaker 1: for Melissa anymore anyway. I mean, I don't think they're
- 22:15Speaker 1: meant to be I don't think they're Yeah, I don't
- 22:18Speaker 1: think that they're meant to be together anyway. Ye, I'm
- 22:21Speaker 1: gonna say no. I think they should stay separate and
- 22:23Speaker 1: maybe just co parent. Well, how about you?
- 22:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I like that. Okay, yeah, I don't know. I'm
- 22:28Speaker 2: torn with you. I like the idea of their family
- 22:30Speaker 2: being together. I'm sure the kids would like that, like
- 22:31Speaker 2: you said. And I also feel like Alice coming in
- 22:35Speaker 2: would not be a good step mom because she so
- 22:37Speaker 2: doesn't want kids that Oh right, Yeah, I don't know
- 22:40Speaker 2: about that, but I don't know. I am undecided.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Okay, Well, let's talky about Bertie and her birth son
- 22:50Speaker 1: Ford and how he has now figured out that that
- 22:54Speaker 1: is his birth mom because he read her book. He
- 22:57Speaker 1: figured out the Grand Rapids thing and his father certificate. Yeah,
- 23:03Speaker 1: and he got a like he got a scholarship already
- 23:06Speaker 1: for baseball. Like didn't he just start like all coaching
- 23:10Speaker 1: last week?
- 23:12Speaker 2: What it? Talent?
- 23:13Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 23:13Speaker 2: Wow, Albion already scooped him up. He got it, you know,
- 23:17Speaker 2: I mean Albion moves fast. I think do we and
- 23:20Speaker 2: gross point we know that Albion.
- 23:23Speaker 1: They swoop in no matter if you've not been on
- 23:26Speaker 1: one baseball team, if you can throw that pitch, you're
- 23:29Speaker 1: good to go.
- 23:30Speaker 2: They're on it. They're like, you pitched okay, good? Did
- 23:33Speaker 2: we care? If? No? No?
- 23:37Speaker 1: That Like, there's a lot of stuff on this show.
- 23:39Speaker 1: That is just so far fetched. But you know, as
- 23:41Speaker 1: are so many shows, you just go with it. But yeah,
- 23:45Speaker 1: we love it.
- 23:46Speaker 2: And you know, the truth is University of Michigan is
- 23:49Speaker 2: probably a big threat to Albion, so they probably do
- 23:52Speaker 2: have to ask act very fast.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Ooh snap, my alma mater for one summer semester, University
- 24:01Speaker 1: of Michigan. That is no. One summer semester.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Whow you're a true wolverine. Uh, you're a summer wolverine.
- 24:12Speaker 2: I'm a summer wolf wolf, summer wolf. So hey, what
- 24:16Speaker 2: do you so like this whole Birdie and Ford situation
- 24:20Speaker 2: and and and we're talking about his dad being a
- 24:25Speaker 2: baseball like being on the baseball team, and so we.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Don't know for sure if it is uh, what's his
- 24:33Speaker 1: officer Joel Guy? Ye, officer Joel. You don't know any
- 24:37Speaker 1: Like I don't know anymore. I just assumed that a
- 24:39Speaker 1: long time ago, and now I have no clue.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Same I can't tell because Ford is like, tell me
- 24:44Speaker 2: about my dad, and I also assumed it's Joel, And
- 24:50Speaker 2: but now it really is unclear. I think they're leaving
- 24:53Speaker 2: us hanging.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Not no, Okay, we don't know who was killed or
- 24:57Speaker 1: murdered or wounded. What I've well, somebody was killed, and
- 25:03Speaker 1: we don't know who Ford's father is. And we also
- 25:10Speaker 1: don't know who Olga is because there's some suspicion behind her.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Yes, yes, we think you know, Amy, and I called
- 25:17Speaker 2: or you called. I can't remember that she is Bertie's mom,
- 25:22Speaker 2: right right.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Well, Lisa, Lisa, you her husband called, okay, friend, Yes,
- 25:26Speaker 1: she's the one who made that, Lisa, Yes, so, yes,
- 25:31Speaker 1: of course, Lisa, I haven't heard from you in a
- 25:33Speaker 1: while about your ideas. But and again, we haven't done
- 25:36Speaker 1: this podcast in a little while, so we'll get we'll
- 25:38Speaker 1: have to get some of the girls point girls on
- 25:40Speaker 1: my friend going on. Yeah, some theories here, and you know,
- 25:45Speaker 1: but honestly, like this whole relationship between Bertie and Ford
- 25:50Speaker 1: is just so inappropriate, like you know, and then it
- 25:52Speaker 1: just she's so in the wrong for so many things.
- 25:55Speaker 1: But obviously she's so likable and it's such a great
- 25:57Speaker 1: storyline that you just give it a pass. But Ford's mother,
- 26:02Speaker 1: who is just livid about all this, is trying to
- 26:06Speaker 1: just like please please leave, like you're not you've done enough.
- 26:10Speaker 1: And Joel has since left the house.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Yeah he's not with Misty anymore, Misty the mother like
- 26:18Speaker 2: he he left. Their relationship is blown up. She's still
- 26:24Speaker 2: working at the Saint Clair Grill and apparently as a valet,
- 26:28Speaker 2: which comes into convenient. It comes into play because in
- 26:36Speaker 2: the future the night of the Gala, we do see
- 26:38Speaker 2: her working in the ballet there. So Saint Claire Grill
- 26:41Speaker 2: probably provided the valet, or she took an extra job.
- 26:44Speaker 2: We don't know.
- 26:45Speaker 1: I think she took an extra job. Okay, do you
- 26:47Speaker 1: think the Saint Claire Grill is Like?
- 26:49Speaker 2: All right, guys, you're valet and tonight. I love the
- 26:55Speaker 2: idea of just so many things a business that does
- 26:58Speaker 2: too many things. We're restaurant and a ballet, you know,
- 27:02Speaker 2: although I guess valets do go with restaurants, but they're not, right.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Typically it's a separate service. Yeah, right, I.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Don't know if i've have you. I'm trying to think
- 27:10Speaker 1: of the valet. Is there a valet like in gross
- 27:13Speaker 1: Poite Village or the Hill that there would like I
- 27:16Speaker 1: remember them being one outside of maybe that one restaurant.
- 27:20Speaker 1: It used to be called the Hill. I don't think
- 27:22Speaker 1: it's called that anymore.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Oh, it's not called the Hill anymore.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Oh, I think it's called the Brass Door or the
- 27:27Speaker 1: Golden Door. One of the two.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Okay, it's either brass or golden. I hope they chose
- 27:31Speaker 2: golden because brass can tarnish, so.
- 27:34Speaker 1: You know, gold no, no, brass, yeah can tarnish, okay,
- 27:39Speaker 1: or just copper can tarnish. Brass is just.
- 27:42Speaker 2: Brassy, Okay, brassy, it's brassy.
- 27:45Speaker 1: But you know what, I think that was called the
- 27:50Speaker 1: Golden Door back in the eighties, and then it was
- 27:54Speaker 1: called like remember it was one twenty three or one
- 27:56Speaker 1: two three. It's been a bunch of different restaurants. Yes, okay,
- 27:59Speaker 1: now I think it is called the Golden Door. Oh okay,
- 28:03Speaker 1: but that's the restaurant that has the valet, or at
- 28:06Speaker 1: least did at some.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Point, Okay. I I don't think I've been there with
- 28:10Speaker 2: the valet. I feel like in general, in gross Point,
- 28:13Speaker 2: parking is pretty ample.
- 28:15Speaker 1: It's an entire large parking lot behind it, so.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Probably don't need it. But I you know, I know
- 28:23Speaker 2: people like that luxury service, so I wouldn't surprised if yeah,
- 28:28Speaker 2: the Golden number one two three changing restaurant provide. Yeah,
- 28:33Speaker 2: especially in the winter, you don't you don't want to park.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Oh, the winter, good point, Yeah, great point, the door, yeah,
- 28:43Speaker 1: a lot of you know, the references of gross point
- 28:45Speaker 1: are all so fun when you hear.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Oh, I love hearing them. One of my favorites that
- 28:49Speaker 2: came out. So I'm just diving into Catherine's storyline a
- 28:53Speaker 2: little do it do it? Yeah? That she and is
- 28:57Speaker 2: finds out that her parents are splitting her mom and dad,
- 29:01Speaker 2: who are probably in their seventies or something, they're older,
- 29:03Speaker 2: and they just they can't make it work anymore, and
- 29:06Speaker 2: they're selling the house and they ask her to sell it.
- 29:09Speaker 2: And I love all the montage of her trying to
- 29:13Speaker 2: sell the house to different people. And one of my
- 29:15Speaker 2: favorite gross Points slash Detroit things was the Poabic tile
- 29:19Speaker 2: around the fireplace.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Yes, shout out Polabic pottery.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I loved that. I was like, I love
- 29:27Speaker 2: that that made it in here, and that this little
- 29:29Speaker 2: like fourteen year old kid is talking about ripping the
- 29:31Speaker 2: Poabic tiles out and selling them. He's like, I can
- 29:34Speaker 2: take these out and so put a console here, I know,
- 29:37Speaker 2: And I was like, oh, how dare you?
- 29:39Speaker 1: I should have brought my Poabic tile in here, but
- 29:41Speaker 1: I will, I'll like post a picture of it. But
- 29:44Speaker 1: it's like a Michigan mit. I mean, I mean a
- 29:47Speaker 1: mint being like this is the state of Michigan. But
- 29:49Speaker 1: it's set the mitt and it's in a Poabic and
- 29:51Speaker 1: is it a frame?
- 29:52Speaker 2: But and I have one too, I can't. Mine's not
- 29:55Speaker 2: in a frame. But yeah, I mean, if you're from
- 29:57Speaker 2: gross Point, you got some Poabic tao.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Okay, you gotta lodd it Poabic. You gotta get that poetic.
- 30:02Speaker 1: You know you got a Poabic, you get right, you
- 30:05Speaker 1: got Yeah, it's just a it's a verb. I did
- 30:10Speaker 1: love that montage of her trying to sell the house
- 30:12Speaker 1: and people wanting to just do so many changes, and
- 30:15Speaker 1: she was like, nope, get out, get out now. But
- 30:18Speaker 1: then to find out that somebody, the person who does
- 30:21Speaker 1: want it she thought was the perfect family and the
- 30:23Speaker 1: perfect situation, turns out they are related to like a
- 30:29Speaker 1: builder and like new construction, and so she now thinks
- 30:33Speaker 1: that they're gonna like tear it down. So we'll see.
- 30:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's tough. Those beautiful old girls Point houses.
- 30:39Speaker 2: I will say they need a lot of plumbing work.
- 30:41Speaker 2: The plumbing is old, ye, So I would invest in that,
- 30:45Speaker 2: but the houses are gorgeous.
- 30:47Speaker 1: They are they are great foundation.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Really good foundation.
- 30:52Speaker 1: But absolutely the plumbing and get your sewer systems figured out,
- 30:57Speaker 1: because oh yeah, what happened a few years ago, everybody.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Just floods, floods who were.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Backed up into oh gross point like the city, city
- 31:08Speaker 1: and farms. I think got it real bad, really bad.
- 31:11Speaker 1: It was a really nasty time. It's a stinky, nasty time.
- 31:17Speaker 1: On that note, it is a great time to take
- 31:19Speaker 1: a quick break. You know, what I find totally fascinating
- 31:22Speaker 1: these days is that people are talking about therapy and
- 31:25Speaker 1: their therapists like it's nothing. And I got to tell you,
- 31:29Speaker 1: I really appreciate that. I know I'm kind of one
- 31:31Speaker 1: of them too. It's just nice to finally be able
- 31:34Speaker 1: to talk to people and be like, oh, yeah, my
- 31:36Speaker 1: therapist said this, and oh do you like your therapist?
- 31:39Speaker 1: So I just think that now the stigma is gone.
- 31:42Speaker 1: And we also have the World Wide Web. So between
- 31:47Speaker 1: two big things knocked down the stigma and the accessibility
- 31:51Speaker 1: to find a therapist. You know, Rula, who is the
- 31:55Speaker 1: sponsor of today's show, makes it so easy to bring
- 31:57Speaker 1: those two things together to help you find the right
- 31:59Speaker 1: therapyiss and I know I've done therapy. You know, if
- 32:03Speaker 1: you listen to my show, you know I talk about
- 32:04Speaker 1: it sometimes. And if you love therapy and you've done
- 32:09Speaker 1: it before and maybe you want to start up again,
- 32:11Speaker 1: or you know somebody, you know, I have to tell
- 32:13Speaker 1: you that Rula is something that is so amazing because
- 32:18Speaker 1: finding the right mental health care should be simple and affordable,
- 32:22Speaker 1: but for many people it's really not because there's long
- 32:26Speaker 1: wait times, there's high costs, and difficulty finding the right
- 32:30Speaker 1: provider can make getting help feel overwhelming when it doesn't
- 32:34Speaker 1: have to be. So that's where RULA comes in. Rula
- 32:38Speaker 1: connects you within network licensed therapists that accept most major insurance.

- 34:23Speaker 1: We are back talking Gross Point Garden Society. I'm with
- 34:26Speaker 1: Megan Grano, star of the Accountant, to go see theaters
- 34:30Speaker 1: now again. If your star, you may miss me with
- 34:34Speaker 1: Ben Affleck, Alison Doug Alison Doug Boy and then their
- 34:40Speaker 1: parents and then Doug's parents, I mean, we are taken.
- 34:44Speaker 1: There's a lot of twists and turns that have happened
- 34:46Speaker 1: over the last couple episodes, and uh, thank god we're
- 34:49Speaker 1: done buying his art. Because yes, the way that Alice
- 34:54Speaker 1: stepped up and started to try to like, you know,
- 34:56Speaker 1: put her credit card down was giving me hives.
- 34:59Speaker 2: Oh me too. You go to get a coffee for
- 35:01Speaker 2: six bucks, which already gives me hives the sixty dollar coffee,
- 35:05Speaker 2: and then she's buying a piece of two thousand dollars
- 35:07Speaker 2: art with it, and her total is with tax two
- 35:10Speaker 2: thousand and seven dollars and fifty cents something like that,
- 35:12Speaker 2: and I'm like.
- 35:13Speaker 1: No, no, By the way. On a coffee note, let
- 35:16Speaker 1: me ask you, are you a person that do you
- 35:18Speaker 1: buy your coffee out?
- 35:19Speaker 2: Like?
- 35:19Speaker 1: Are you a Starbucks person? What do you do? What's
- 35:21Speaker 1: your coffee sitch?
- 35:22Speaker 2: Oh? I love getting coffee out. I don't know how
- 35:25Speaker 2: you feel that's one of my favorite treats for myself.
- 35:28Speaker 2: But I will I don't do it a lot because
- 35:31Speaker 2: I am shocked by the price tag.
- 35:34Speaker 1: Okay, that's the Megan. I know.
- 35:35Speaker 2: All right, thank you.
- 35:36Speaker 1: I knew that we were gonna we had to end
- 35:38Speaker 1: up back there a treat out. Yes, well, I never
- 35:42Speaker 1: get coffee out unless it's like, okay, it's very rare
- 35:47Speaker 1: that I get a coffee out, I will say. Anyway, right, No,
- 35:52Speaker 1: I was a tea person up until I mean, I
- 35:55Speaker 1: am a tea person here and there, Megan. Okay, but
- 35:59Speaker 1: something changed at like I want to say, forty okay,
- 36:04Speaker 1: I have been a coffee person.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Now I am shocked.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I know, I know, I know.
- 36:11Speaker 2: Wasn't gradual or just one day you realized I need
- 36:14Speaker 2: more coffee.
- 36:15Speaker 1: All of a sudden, it was like it was not gradual.
- 36:18Speaker 1: It was straight up. I mean, you'd think that there
- 36:21Speaker 1: was youth, like it was the Fountain of Youth or something.
- 36:24Speaker 2: I was.
- 36:25Speaker 1: I just was like, I am, I just want coffee,
- 36:27Speaker 1: And then all of a sudden it was just coffee
- 36:29Speaker 1: all the time, and then tea every once in a while.
- 36:32Speaker 1: But so I have coffee every morning I never get
- 36:35Speaker 1: it out in the morning. The only time I ever
- 36:37Speaker 1: get coffee or any specialty drinks is like in the
- 36:39Speaker 1: afternoon with Maddie. If you know, we'll do the drive
- 36:43Speaker 1: through here in Santa Clarita and they'll and I'll get
- 36:46Speaker 1: a chi. I don't get coffee. I do not like
- 36:48Speaker 1: Starbucks coffee.
- 36:49Speaker 2: I do not.
- 36:49Speaker 1: I typically don't like coffee out because I like to
- 36:54Speaker 1: control my caffeine intake with my coffee, because too much
- 36:58Speaker 1: caffeine makes me good bunkers.
- 37:00Speaker 2: So I do like a I like amy in every
- 37:04Speaker 2: face so bonkers. I would spend time with it. I
- 37:07Speaker 2: understand it can make you feel it can just be
- 37:10Speaker 2: too much. Sometimes it can be too much.
- 37:12Speaker 1: But I do love a hot, shy latte. And I
- 37:15Speaker 1: have not been a Macha girl. I've tried Macha I've
- 37:19Speaker 1: hated it. But last week when I went to Starbucks
- 37:23Speaker 1: with Maddie because she likes to get their pink drink
- 37:26Speaker 1: and like a protein like snack box is what we'll
- 37:29Speaker 1: do every once in a while for a treat. It's
- 37:30Speaker 1: really special. And I remember I got their Macha tea
- 37:34Speaker 1: latte cold, and I've gotten it hot both times. And
- 37:38Speaker 1: I've tried it a couple of times, and I have
- 37:40Speaker 1: not enjoyed it. So then I went back another time
- 37:42Speaker 1: and I said.
- 37:43Speaker 2: You kept trying it.
- 37:44Speaker 1: I did keep because everyone just keeps talking about Macha,
- 37:46Speaker 1: you know, And so I was like, is there anything
- 37:50Speaker 1: you can do to it to like make.
- 37:51Speaker 2: It taste better?
- 37:53Speaker 1: And they're like, I mean we can put a little
- 37:55Speaker 1: like sweetener in it. I was like great, and so
- 37:57Speaker 1: whatever they did, it just it still did not taste good.
- 38:01Speaker 1: So I'm like, I'm done with Macha. Then last week
- 38:04Speaker 1: I pulled up and I saw an oat. Now this
- 38:07Speaker 1: is where I don't like to get fancy with drinks,
- 38:10Speaker 1: and so I had to go against everything in me,
- 38:15Speaker 1: and I was like, I'll have the oat milk, lavender
- 38:19Speaker 1: Macha latte cold please, oh, because I just milk. I
- 38:24Speaker 1: now like bullshit drinks, as Larry David was like, I
- 38:27Speaker 1: don't do a bullshit coffee like. I just have never
- 38:29Speaker 1: been a bullshit coffee person. I am like coffee and milk,
- 38:33Speaker 1: or coffee and almond milk. That's it.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Two things too.
- 38:37Speaker 1: I don't want your anyway. So I ordered it and
- 38:40Speaker 1: I freaking loved it. What because it's sweeter and somehow
- 38:45Speaker 1: it has like a flavor to it. So I'm sure
- 38:48Speaker 1: there's sugar in it and all that stuff, so it's
- 38:50Speaker 1: not like healthy anymore. But the macha lavender macha bullshit
- 38:56Speaker 1: with lattie with some milk blended with a foam thing
- 39:02Speaker 1: was really quite delicious.
- 39:04Speaker 2: So I am wondering if it's the combination of flavors,
- 39:08Speaker 2: or if like we're always telling our kids, like, just
- 39:11Speaker 2: keep trying to try those, try them one day, you're
- 39:15Speaker 2: gonna like them, or because I mean, you gave this
- 39:18Speaker 2: thing the old idea.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Try times several not even just at Starbucks, at other places,
- 39:23Speaker 1: and I've bought it, I've tried to do it myself,
- 39:26Speaker 1: hate it. So guys, I don't know what to tell you.
- 39:29Speaker 1: I guess just put a bunch of sugar in it.
- 39:31Speaker 1: That's probably what happened. I don't even know how we
- 39:34Speaker 1: got off on this. Oh yeah, because we were talking
- 39:37Speaker 1: about buying the art at coffee shops. And I have
- 39:39Speaker 1: an update for you. So one of the darlings who
- 39:42Speaker 1: listens to this podcast sent me a message. Thank you
- 39:45Speaker 1: coffee shop, either barista or coffee shop owner and maybe
- 39:50Speaker 1: both shout out to you. Here's your dj Airhorn said
- 39:56Speaker 1: to me, I want you to know that people often
- 40:01Speaker 1: do buy artwork in coffee shops. I hang artwork in
- 40:05Speaker 1: my coffee shop quite frequently, and there is a turnaround.
- 40:10Speaker 1: And so I stand corrected because I said when he
- 40:14Speaker 1: first sold his painting, you know, I was like, no
- 40:17Speaker 1: one's buying two thousand dollars.
- 40:19Speaker 2: That's what I thought. But my.
- 40:23Speaker 1: Reference the person who contacted me, now they did say
- 40:28Speaker 1: certainly not maybe that price point, but people are buying
- 40:32Speaker 1: art and they're buying it off of coffee coffee house walls.
- 40:35Speaker 1: So there you go, Darlins.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I stand corrected too. I would never have guessed that.
- 40:40Speaker 1: And here we are, and you know what the darlings
- 40:42Speaker 1: come through. They fact check me quite often. So there's
- 40:46Speaker 1: your most recent fat fact check.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Well I love that and I can't wait to get
- 40:50Speaker 2: fact checked on those zebra muscles, I know.
- 40:56Speaker 1: So we now the cats out of the bag and
- 41:02Speaker 1: Doug's dad, Yeah, it's like I can't take it anymore.
- 41:06Speaker 1: They're buying your art yep.
- 41:08Speaker 2: Keith, the dad is just not having it. He I
- 41:11Speaker 2: mean the tension between what that launches into the tension
- 41:15Speaker 2: that builds between Patty Doug's mom and Alice, it's a lot.
- 41:19Speaker 2: I think they're getting to the point where they just
- 41:21Speaker 2: downright hate each other. And it really, it really builds
- 41:26Speaker 2: to this this well, let me let me add this
- 41:29Speaker 2: info that you know, Alice, I think maybe I'm skipping
- 41:32Speaker 2: too far ahead. But she gets a dog.
- 41:34Speaker 1: She gets a dog, she gets that dog a new pop,
- 41:37Speaker 1: she gets you. They're fostering the dog named Gail.
- 41:41Speaker 2: Okay, love it. This sweet little dog named Gail. And
- 41:45Speaker 2: she has Patty over and really leads her to believe
- 41:49Speaker 2: that she's about to tell her that they're having a grandchild,
- 41:52Speaker 2: which is all that Patty wants, It's the only thing
- 41:54Speaker 2: she wants. And instead she's like, we're having a dog.
- 41:57Speaker 2: Here's our dog, and they and they want and she
- 42:01Speaker 2: manipulates Patty into taking care of it all those nighttime
- 42:04Speaker 2: get up, take it for a pp log it in
- 42:07Speaker 2: the journal, and Patty is pissed. She in fact, it's
- 42:12Speaker 2: covered in piss at one point. Indeed, indeed, yeah, And
- 42:17Speaker 2: it's just like this terrible they are growing intention they
- 42:21Speaker 2: have a horrible fight. I loved the fight where they're
- 42:24Speaker 2: fighting over and I bet you there's a lot of
- 42:26Speaker 2: people who have comments on this people who don't want
- 42:30Speaker 2: kids and have dogs versus people who do have kids.
- 42:33Speaker 2: And Patty's going like, a dog is an animal.
- 42:37Speaker 1: It's an animal, not your kid. And I can't believe
- 42:40Speaker 1: you're willing to put this much attention and energy, more
- 42:45Speaker 1: so into a dog than with kids. And yeah, and
- 42:51Speaker 1: you know what, there are so many people who consider
- 42:55Speaker 1: their pets their children. Yeah, and I totally get it.
- 42:59Speaker 1: I mean, so people who either A want never want
- 43:02Speaker 1: to have kids, or b have tried and at this
- 43:05Speaker 1: point haven't had any success or just plain up, just
- 43:08Speaker 1: haven't had success and are moving on, and then their
- 43:11Speaker 1: animals become their family and so and if you're not
- 43:15Speaker 1: in that situation and you cannot like put yourself in
- 43:18Speaker 1: other people's shoes and get that, that's what's sad, because
- 43:23Speaker 1: you know, obviously Patty doesn't understand how much it means
- 43:26Speaker 1: to them.
- 43:27Speaker 2: Yes, yes, and she's just so desperate to get that grandchild.
- 43:32Speaker 2: She's so desperate that she seems like she can't see
- 43:34Speaker 2: someone else's point of view. But the question is Alice
- 43:38Speaker 2: then thinks that she you know, someone calls in someone
- 43:43Speaker 2: anonymous another mystery that they have a dog and they're
- 43:46Speaker 2: not supposed to have it in their apartment, right, And
- 43:49Speaker 2: so she Alice thinks that the mother in law, Patty,
- 43:53Speaker 2: did it. And then she finds a bullet in Patty's
- 43:58Speaker 2: jewelry case, which you know she left out.
- 44:02Speaker 1: Wait. I thought, no, that that is the bullet that
- 44:05Speaker 1: Alice still had. Alice did have the bullet from when
- 44:09Speaker 1: they took it out of the dog.
- 44:10Speaker 2: Oh okay, okay, I thought that was Patty's. And I
- 44:15Speaker 2: was like, oh my god, I can't believe she kept
- 44:17Speaker 2: the bullet. I mean that would be our evidence, right.
- 44:26Speaker 1: No, I think she just revisits the bullet and it's
- 44:28Speaker 1: like because it's in her jewlery, and she's like, hmm.
- 44:31Speaker 2: Hmm, let's double check this right with the gun or not? Right? Yes, okay,
- 44:38Speaker 2: that makes a lot more sense.
- 44:40Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure, of course, Darth check on that.
- 44:44Speaker 2: Yeah, let us know what you think there, Because I
- 44:47Speaker 2: was going like, come on, why would she keep it
- 44:49Speaker 2: right in her jewelry and why would she leave her
- 44:51Speaker 2: jewelry open next to the sink. So it makes way
- 44:53Speaker 2: more sense that it's Alice's jewelry box. She's looking at
- 44:57Speaker 2: it and looks and it's like I'm gonna have this
- 45:00Speaker 2: testing because Doug and Patty had been playing a lot
- 45:03Speaker 2: of video games, and Doug is like, my mom is
- 45:05Speaker 2: a great shot, you know, so now it's real good together. Yeah.
- 45:08Speaker 2: So I'm like, oh, okay.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Yeah because her mom's and she also Patty said as
- 45:14Speaker 1: long as you have a dog, you'll never want a baby.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Yes, and so.
- 45:18Speaker 1: Those were words to live by.
- 45:20Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 45:21Speaker 1: And also yeah, when Alice finds well Alice, there's another
- 45:31Speaker 1: like interesting thing that happens between finding out Alice finding
- 45:35Speaker 1: out what her uh sorry, Doug's dad. What is his name? Keith?
- 45:41Speaker 2: Oh?
- 45:41Speaker 1: Yeah, Keith tells her about their marriage.
- 45:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's like it was another hot mess gross
- 45:50Speaker 2: point marriage.
- 45:51Speaker 1: Yeah, the mom. I love that she had an affair
- 45:56Speaker 1: with the weather man.
- 45:58Speaker 2: I forget his name, but it was so good for
- 46:00Speaker 2: weather man. It was like yeah, sip I don't Yeah.
- 46:03Speaker 1: It was yeah, like skippity airwaves windy like yeah, something
- 46:08Speaker 1: to the Winston Windy or whatever.
- 46:11Speaker 2: Winston Windy, skippity sportsman, I don't yeah, skippity clouds. I
- 46:21Speaker 2: don't know. I don't remember what it was.
- 46:23Speaker 1: But he and it's interesting because that's why he has
- 46:27Speaker 1: a lot of empathy for Doug when Doug tells him,
- 46:30Speaker 1: you know, Brett's in love with my wife, and why
- 46:33Speaker 1: Alice has empathy for Keith and wants to help their
- 46:37Speaker 1: family kind of like mend and doesn't have the bitterness
- 46:40Speaker 1: to want to move forward with her mother in law
- 46:43Speaker 1: Monster Diaries, you know, because she feels bad that Doug
- 46:47Speaker 1: is all Keith has and they're just kind of hanging
- 46:50Speaker 1: by a string.
- 46:51Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so true. Yeah, that that whole storyline they
- 46:57Speaker 2: really led us to believe. At least they led me
- 46:59Speaker 2: to believe. But and again, who knows, I'm maybe I'm
- 47:02Speaker 2: easy to get things wrong, but they led me to believe.
- 47:05Speaker 2: I thought the dad Keith was gonna murder like somebody.
- 47:09Speaker 2: I thought he was going to be so mad that
- 47:11Speaker 2: night at the gala, because they had the whole gala
- 47:14Speaker 2: scene where they set up backstory that Doug was a
- 47:18Speaker 2: troubled youth and vandalized things and got into a lot
- 47:21Speaker 2: of trouble and he'd finally turned his life around. But
- 47:23Speaker 2: then he's in this big fight at the gala, and
- 47:25Speaker 2: I thought Keith was going to come do something murderous,
- 47:28Speaker 2: but instead they just show us a brief clip that
- 47:31Speaker 2: is a great Cliffhanger that Keith sees them, so Keith knows,
- 47:37Speaker 2: he knows that those four our four main characters were
- 47:40Speaker 2: in there doing something bad into Boots.
- 47:43Speaker 1: It's so hard to believe that they're like lifting up
- 47:46Speaker 1: weapon implements or gardening implements and are going to like
- 47:49Speaker 1: start hacking up an actual body right there. I mean,
- 47:53Speaker 1: is that what we're led to believe? I keep thinking,
- 47:55Speaker 1: is this going to be some kind of cartoon dummy
- 47:58Speaker 1: or I don't know what. It's so hard to believe,
- 48:01Speaker 1: but I mean.
- 48:01Speaker 2: Truly, I guess it is. I mean, I guess so
- 48:04Speaker 2: because that's You're right, they're talking about the garden instruments
- 48:07Speaker 2: and whacking it up. So I don't know, I mean, I.
- 48:11Speaker 1: Guess so crazy.
- 48:13Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's I don't know. They're they're taking me
- 48:17Speaker 2: on a journey. I'm very excited to see. I know
- 48:21Speaker 2: what they do.
- 48:22Speaker 1: I am very excited too, And it was nice to see,
- 48:26Speaker 1: you know, some of the underlying themes, which is that
- 48:30Speaker 1: Patty is clearly you know, she and Keith are still
- 48:34Speaker 1: not doing great, and she's trying to fix her problems
- 48:39Speaker 1: with a baby, just like they tried to fix their
- 48:41Speaker 1: problems with a baby, and it's never the answer.
- 48:45Speaker 2: So deep. I didn't put that together. Wow, that's so good.
- 48:50Speaker 1: And also Alice started to go down that road by
- 48:54Speaker 1: saying like, hey, maybe we should think about having a baby.
- 48:57Speaker 1: You know, she started to do exactly what they had done.
- 49:01Speaker 2: Yes, Oh my gosh, so true.
- 49:04Speaker 1: Wow, the the you know, the mistakes that are forefathers
- 49:10Speaker 1: have made you do as well.
- 49:13Speaker 2: So true. Can we escape those mistakes or not? That's
- 49:17Speaker 2: the question they're trying to show us. Yeah, and that's
- 49:21Speaker 2: a good question because I think we should talk about
- 49:24Speaker 2: Birdie and it seems like she is possibly about to
- 49:31Speaker 2: have the chance she's you know, they reveal to us
- 49:34Speaker 2: she's pregnant again. And again we don't know. We think
- 49:38Speaker 2: it's Officer Joel's right.
- 49:40Speaker 1: We do. I mean when the when valet, when the
- 49:44Speaker 1: valet mom Misty comes into the bathroom at the gala,
- 49:48Speaker 1: she just happens to be in there when she throws off,
- 49:52Speaker 1: oh how long are you?
- 49:54Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, it just feels like that's another place where
- 49:58Speaker 2: we're revisiting, like are we were revisiting the.
- 50:01Speaker 1: Past and she again, you know, hey, yeah with another
- 50:07Speaker 1: of Joel's babies or maybe not, maybe the first, right, well,
- 50:14Speaker 1: and she had to choose, like, so Misty basically said
- 50:18Speaker 1: to Bertie, you need to choose. It's either Ford or Joel, essentially,
- 50:22Speaker 1: and so she chose Ford and set up that whole
- 50:26Speaker 1: scenario with Joel coming over and catching her with her ex.
- 50:31Speaker 2: Yes. I love that. That character, by the way, that
- 50:34Speaker 2: Santrope like older man who's just like always in a
- 50:38Speaker 2: great mood and always playing in from London or wherever
- 50:41Speaker 2: he is. He's great, darling, great, yeah to be here.
- 50:49Speaker 1: Yeah. So well, Bertie's like, don't tell Joel, and then
- 50:55Speaker 1: Missy's like, congrats on another kid, you don't deserve. Love
- 51:00Speaker 1: the soap opera dialogue. I'm that love it, love.
- 51:03Speaker 2: It hard choices, hard herd decisions, lots of mystery.
- 51:08Speaker 1: Yes, I you know, I loved. I loved so many moments,
- 51:13Speaker 1: and of course so many of my favorites are like
- 51:15Speaker 1: Marilyn and Theodore and Donna. You know that side character
- 51:19Speaker 1: in the garden and when Bertie is like yelling, they're
- 51:22Speaker 1: all yelling at Donna to go get what were they
- 51:25Speaker 1: telling her to go get? But then finally Bertie yells,
- 51:28Speaker 1: She's like, bitch, go get it, and Donna just starts running.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Poor Donna, She's so emotionally abused by this group of
- 51:36Speaker 1: gross pointers. I feel so bad for her.
- 51:41Speaker 2: She probably lives in like the East Village or something
- 51:44Speaker 2: close that's like Indian village. She's not quite gross point.
- 51:47Speaker 2: They let her in technicality, we need we need to
- 51:49Speaker 2: fill in her backstory.
- 51:51Speaker 1: Yeah we do, Oh Donna, Yeah, was there anything else? Like,
- 51:57Speaker 1: did you feel there was anything else that popped out
- 51:59Speaker 1: for you? And these last few episodes that we should discuss.
- 52:03Speaker 2: This is a really small thing. It just was very
- 52:05Speaker 2: personal to me and cracked me up. That when they
- 52:08Speaker 2: introduced Catherine's mom's character in whatever, I think that was
- 52:12Speaker 2: episode eighty, how Catherine realized her mom was in town
- 52:16Speaker 2: staying with her was that she walked into her kitchen
- 52:18Speaker 2: and everything is slightly rearranged, and the art is rearranged
- 52:21Speaker 2: and the furniture is slightly rearranged. And I fell over
- 52:25Speaker 2: laughing because that's what my grandma used to do when
- 52:27Speaker 2: she came to town. So my parents off work and
- 52:30Speaker 2: my grandma would always rearrange to her liking. And I
- 52:33Speaker 2: was like, oh, that's hilarious, Yes, it's great.
- 52:37Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. That does hit home for you, Megan,
- 52:40Speaker 1: that's amazing. I did love that moment because you don't
- 52:43Speaker 1: know what she's seeing. I'm like, what is it that
- 52:45Speaker 1: she's seeing? Who did this? Like what happened? And then
- 52:47Speaker 1: it's like your mother in law's here? I mean, I
- 52:51Speaker 1: mean your mom's here. That's what Typer said. Yeah, wow,
- 52:57Speaker 1: Oh I did think that scene was really touching. When
- 53:00Speaker 1: they had a flashback of when she was a little
- 53:02Speaker 1: girl and she was taking down all of her awards
- 53:04Speaker 1: and medals from her room and packing it up. That
- 53:07Speaker 1: was really sweet.
- 53:08Speaker 2: That was so sweet. Yeah, it's hard. Moving is so hard. Yeah,
- 53:14Speaker 2: leaving the home you know, did you is your Are
- 53:18Speaker 2: your parents still in the same place? They know?
- 53:20Speaker 1: But they moved after I was already out of the house.
- 53:23Speaker 1: I mean when I was they moved into uh they
- 53:27Speaker 1: when they downsized. I was already we graduated from college.
- 53:31Speaker 2: Okay. So and the place I've been to their house,
- 53:35Speaker 2: or at least the one I'm thinking of in gross Point.
- 53:38Speaker 2: Are they the house that had the fire?
- 53:40Speaker 1: Like, oh, that's that's the one they're still in.
- 53:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 53:44Speaker 1: So they had to basically kind of rebuild from from
- 53:47Speaker 1: the studs. I mean, the facade was everything was intact,
- 53:51Speaker 1: and they were able to save so much from the
- 53:54Speaker 1: fire in terms of like the you know, the refurbishment
- 53:58Speaker 1: companies and all that stuff. They were able to do
- 53:59Speaker 1: a lot, but a lot was was lost. Excuse me,
- 54:03Speaker 1: I'm not getting emotional. I just as well. My spit wrong.
- 54:05Speaker 1: But they know it was divastating because we lost all
- 54:10Speaker 1: of our family pictures, like everything, I mean, all of
- 54:12Speaker 1: our family, you know, all that sentimental stuff. But the
- 54:18Speaker 1: great news is they were not hurt. They were you know,
- 54:20Speaker 1: they were completely fine, and they were able to rebuild
- 54:25Speaker 1: that house. So when they call it the house, they
- 54:27Speaker 1: kind of call that the old house, the house before
- 54:29Speaker 1: the fire.
- 54:30Speaker 2: You know.
- 54:30Speaker 1: Interesting, okay, because it's like a different house almost, you know,
- 54:35Speaker 1: because the way things were set up in certain ways.
- 54:37Speaker 1: But yeah, yeah, so wild yeah anyway, but yeah, it's
- 54:44Speaker 1: this is just such a great it's a great show.
- 54:48Speaker 1: I love. Oh one more thing that we did find
- 54:50Speaker 1: out that Brett mailed her mother in law monster. I'm sorry, yeah, monster,
- 54:56Speaker 1: mother in law essay to the New York New Yorker
- 54:59Speaker 1: or the New York magazine I can't remember.
- 55:01Speaker 2: I don't remember either. But it's a magazine of some
- 55:04Speaker 2: sort in New York, I think, or a newspaper, but
- 55:07Speaker 2: we know it's in New York.
- 55:09Speaker 1: We know it's in New York. It's going to the
- 55:10Speaker 1: big city, so we know that he sends it off
- 55:14Speaker 1: and that's that.
- 55:15Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's and we know, you know, it seems
- 55:19Speaker 2: like everyone likes the writing, but they had decided, you know,
- 55:22Speaker 2: we're not going to end it out. But so Brett
- 55:25Speaker 2: doing this, I think we're being led to believe it
- 55:27Speaker 2: has something to do with the murder. Maybe. Oh I
- 55:32Speaker 2: don't know.
- 55:32Speaker 1: Oh no, it did lead to the fight, right or no,
- 55:35Speaker 1: like you mean the essay. Yeah, oh my gosh, you
- 55:39Speaker 1: think there's something about the murder there?
- 55:42Speaker 2: Oh no, I think that I'm just remembering. Now. This
- 55:45Speaker 2: is episodes back, so now we're getting to see the
- 55:48Speaker 2: holes in my memory. But I remember that there was something.
- 55:52Speaker 2: I think I do that, Like Doug saw the state
- 55:57Speaker 2: like a package from the magazine and was really pissed,
- 56:00Speaker 2: and that's why he got drunk and came to the
- 56:02Speaker 2: gala all pissed.
- 56:03Speaker 1: Yeah, he got the exception the acceptance letter.
- 56:07Speaker 2: Yeah, she but I don't know. I thought that maybe
- 56:12Speaker 2: he was pissed that she submitted it.
- 56:14Speaker 1: Right, I see what you're saying yes, yes, yes, yes,
- 56:18Speaker 1: of course yeah.
- 56:19Speaker 2: Does it lead to the fight, which leads to I
- 56:22Speaker 2: don't know.
- 56:23Speaker 1: No, You're absolutely right on.
- 56:26Speaker 2: Thanks.
- 56:27Speaker 1: You know, I haven't had my I haven't had my oat, milk, lavender,
- 56:33Speaker 1: sucking macha whatever it is.
- 56:35Speaker 2: Yet today, so phony cold, go get it.
- 56:42Speaker 1: And whenever I go to Starbucks, I refuse to say
- 56:45Speaker 1: grande or tall.
