- 0:00This is a Tabernacle tidbit, a bite sized Tabernacle talk of 5
- 0:05minutes or less to help you get through your day when you only
- 0:09have a little bit of time. We hope this helps you to know
- 0:11Christ, groan His Word, and show His love to others.
- 0:14Let's get started. Welcome back to Tabernacle
- 0:18Tidbits. Today we are in Second Timothy
- 0:20chapter 4 and verse #17 the apostle Paul is writing his last
- 0:26letter that he'll write that we have inspired in Scripture
- 0:28before his death. And he's writing to his son in
- 0:31the faith, Timothy. And we started verse #16
- 0:35yesterday, and it'll carry over into what we'll read today in
- 0:39verse 17. So Paul was imprisoned in Rome
- 0:43for being a Christian and for preaching the gospel.
- 0:47And so he gave a defense of of why he was imprisoned and how he
- 0:53was not guilty of any crimes against Rome.
- 0:58And so he'd given this first offense, but no one was there.
- 1:01And that's what we read in verse #16 at my first offense, no one
- 1:05stood by me, but everyone deserted me.
- 1:08May it not be counted against them, he says.
- 1:11But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me so that I might
- 1:16fully preach the Word, and all the Gentiles might hear it.
- 1:20So I was rescued from the lion's mouth.
- 1:25Hear what a wonderful truth that first part of verse 17, the Lord
- 1:29stood with me and strengthened me when in verse 16, no one
- 1:34stood by me. Verse 17 but the Lord stood with
- 1:37me and what a comfort that in times when we are alone, I'll
- 1:42I'll tell you guys as a pastor, as a person, that's all of you
- 1:48know, my closest friends in the world are a couple 1000 miles
- 1:52away. I have been so thankful for the
- 1:56Lord's presence and for the Lord's comfort and his grace in
- 2:01times when, you know, if there's difficulties at church as the
- 2:05pastor, I can't tell you know, if you will other people in the
- 2:09church, all the things that other people in the church are
- 2:11doing. You know that that'd be some
- 2:13gossip that wouldn't be Christ like.
- 2:15And so in those moments where I just have to hold, hold some
- 2:19things that are heavy, I am so grateful that the Lord is right
- 2:24there that I can say God, you know, you, you see what's
- 2:27happening, you see the hurt, you see the fighting, you see the
- 2:31struggle. And God is there to as he was
- 2:35here with Paul, he didn't just stand by Paul, but he also
- 2:38strengthened him. He enabled him to say what
- 2:41needed to be said. He enabled him to go forward in
- 2:45faith that he wasn't paralyzed by fear.
- 2:47He wasn't overcome by by doubt. He did not reject Jesus, but
- 2:52instead, as he says in the last half of the verse, so that I
- 2:56might fully preach the word and all the Gentiles might hear it.
- 3:01He says God was there with me so that I could tell them the
- 3:04gospel and so that I would tell it to everyone that God has for
- 3:09me to tell it to. And can I tell you that that
- 3:12same thing is true for you and me today?
- 3:16God stands with us. God never abandons us or
- 3:19forsakes us. So that we would share who Jesus
- 3:23is and what Jesus has done for us, so that we would share that
- 3:28with other people. And so that the people that God
- 3:31has for us to tell, we would be able to tell all of them.
- 3:35God did not just save and indwell and strengthen you and
- 3:41give you His grace so that you could just exist.
- 3:46That's not why He did it. He did it for a purpose.
- 3:50I actually, I'm preparing for a sermon right now and this was
- 3:54one of the thoughts. If my wife hands me at home a
- 3:57broom or a vacuum, she's not just giving me something to
- 4:02hold. She wants me to sweep or she
- 4:06wants me to vacuum. God giving you His grace and God
- 4:10giving you His Holy Spirit means that He has a purpose for you.
- 4:15You have a job, and your job is not just to not beat people up
- 4:21or not say swear words. Your job is to share Jesus with
- 4:26those around you. Now you might say, hey, I don't
- 4:30know a lot, I don't know everything.
- 4:31That's OK, just say what you know, God's not calling you to
- 4:35give something that he has not already given you.
- 4:39So whatever you know about Jesus, whatever Jesus is doing
- 4:42in your life, whatever, you know, Bible verse or you know,
- 4:47Bible podcast thing that God is using to bless you, use that to
- 4:50bless others. And as we do that we can see
- 4:55God's mission accomplished in our life that we are doing what
- 5:00he has created us for. And then in the last part of
- 5:04verse 17, he says, so I was rescued from the lion's mouth
- 5:09here. This first defense that Paul
- 5:10would have given. He was not immediately, you
- 5:13know, sentenced to death or something as he actually would
- 5:15be later. He says I was rescued the the
- 5:19lion was one of the ways that Nero was described.
- 5:24They're in 1st century Rome. And Paul says because of the
- 5:28Lord, because of the Lorde strength, because of the Lorde
- 5:31presence, I was not killed by Nero at this point.
- 5:35And so I'm thankful that the Lord rescued me.
- 5:38And can I tell you, out of every difficulty you've ever been in,
- 5:41any struggle, any trial, the Lord is the one that rescued you
- 5:45through it all. He was the one that provided, He
- 5:48was the one that gave. He was the one that rectified
- 5:51the situation. So be thankful to Him.
