- 0:00Did you ever doubt yourself throughout the process with him?
- 0:02Multiple times, multiple times even now still sometimes, and I
- 0:06say, you know, through the process, it's still the process.
- 0:08You know, there's now there's Kamar.
- 0:10It's it's always a process, but there's been multiple times
- 0:13where somebody else could do better with him.
- 0:14He deserves more than me. I guess it's for my lack of
- 0:17knowledge or my lack of confidence in myself.
- 0:20All right? It's never really been him.
- 0:22It's I'd hit a wall and I didn't know which direction to go, so I
- 0:26just started chipping away at it.
- 0:27Finally, I'd get that little crack where I could start
- 0:28breaking through there, you know, and that's when I'm kind
- 0:31of all right now. Now we're getting somewhere.
- 0:34Let's relax, take a step back for a minute.
- 0:36Let's look at the picture again, see what we was doing and
- 0:39reevaluate again, you know, before we find him a
- 0:42breakthrough. There are healers on this planet
- 0:45with the power to soften the suffering of mankind, yet they
- 0:48have remained in the recesses of the world, abused, discarded and
- 0:52labeled as trash. This is the touch of a Mustang.
- 0:56I am your host, Shalise Clough, and I'm here to tell the story
- 1:00of wild horses, Mustangs, and the humans who are discovering
- 1:04and sharing their gifts while working to protect their
- 1:07well-being and preserve their spirit so this divine power
- 1:11won't be lost. Join us on this quest with the
- 1:14Wild Mustang. It's great to have you on here.
- 1:23I'm excited to hear more of your story.
- 1:25A lot of times I have people who leave comments and I can just
- 1:29tell kind of from the comments, like they know, like they know
- 1:32about the Mustangs. It's been something that they
- 1:35saw. And I think that's, you know,
- 1:36what I thought with you as some of the comments she left on
- 1:39different stuff online that yeah, you definitely had a story
- 1:43to tell. Well, what you want to know?
- 1:44Well, let's start at the beginning.
- 1:46How did you get involved in horses and then how did you end
- 1:51up with a Mustang? So Long story short, I guess for
- 1:54lack of better words, is I've always been around horses.
- 1:57I wasn't necessarily born into the lifestyle, but I've always
- 2:00had access to growing up, you know, I rode and did this and
- 2:04that, you know, cowboy stuff, I guess you'd call it.
- 2:06And that's how it treated them too.
- 2:09But graduated high school, join the military, come home and,
- 2:14well, took a whole bunch of roads that wasn't the right one.
- 2:18And there's a small little mom and pop farm pretty local to
- 2:23hear that they gave me a chance when I probably really didn't
- 2:25deserve 1. And it started out just kind of,
- 2:28you know, doing maintenance around there and taking care of
- 2:30this and that. Well, more and more I got right
- 2:33back, drawn back into these horses and, you know, started
- 2:36messing with them. And that's been 15 years ago now
- 2:39and was there for a long time. And then my better half decided
- 2:44she wanted a horse of her own. Well, this guy standing behind
- 2:47me here, we found him online at a place probably an hour and a
- 2:52half away from here. Went and seen him.
- 2:54He was wonderful. I couldn't have asked for a
- 2:55better horse for her. He's chill, calm, cool,
- 2:57collected. I rode him on, you know, my
- 2:59whole little rundown that whenever I go to buy a horse, he
- 3:02marked all the boxes. On the plus side, too, he was
- 3:04big, he was strong. If I needed to use him to work
- 3:06cattle, I couldn't. Well, and then I you know, we
- 3:12visit him three or four times several times unexpectedly just
- 3:15drop in on the people would be, you know, local because I wanted
- 3:18to see if we had it was the same horse every time.
- 3:21O and behold, you know he was. But then we ran him home and we
- 3:26have a whole different horse. You can't catch him.
- 3:27You don't want you touching him. He would buckle in two if you
- 3:30were to reach out to him. So something happened between
- 3:33the time, you know, the last time I saw him and the time we
- 3:35picked him up. Don't know what it was and it
- 3:36doesn't matter now, but it has taken me close to two years to
- 3:40get him to trust me completely and want to be with people.
- 3:44Kind of a back story on this guy.
- 3:46So I think he was rounded up as a youngster and he got somewhere
- 3:49out West somewhere and there's a big outfitter out there.
- 3:52But I know he basically rented the horse out for the summer to,
- 3:56you know, different cowboy outfits and this and that.
- 3:58So yeah, I know he's been a pack horse.
- 4:00I know he's been a, you know, a cowboy and horse.
- 4:02So he's been through a lot of hands.
- 4:03I put it like that. He wasn't treated very nicely.
- 4:05I'll put it like that. His trauma come through and
- 4:08well, I was doing things with him I got always knew how to do
- 4:11and it wasn't working. So I had to take a step back and
- 4:15look at the big picture, not only with him, you know, did I
- 4:18mess up. This horse changed my life.
- 4:19He changed how I do everything. And I guess with the eye opening
- 4:22moment for me was it was probably close to 100° outside
- 4:26out here and he was getting ridden that day.
- 4:28I was determined. He's gonna get ridden.
- 4:30Well, he's in the round pen and we was moving and moving and
- 4:34moving and moving and well, he just, he wouldn't let me get on
- 4:36him at all. You know, it did not matter what
- 4:39I did. I could lunge him both ways.
- 4:41I could turn it with circles. It did not matter.
- 4:43He could have cared less. He would have died before he
- 4:45quit, before I got on him. You know, I'm saying 3 1/2, four
- 4:48hours later I'm whooped. You know, I'm ready to fall out.
- 4:52I know he's going to be tired and hot because he's the one
- 4:53doing a lot of work. So he would keep on going right
- 4:57then and there. I was just like all right,
- 4:59something has to be done differently.
- 5:01So it just everything that I thought I knew, he showed me how
- 5:06much I don't know so and the rest is history.
- 5:10You know it. He really opened my eyes.
- 5:12But now I get 4 pals. Now don't get me wrong, he gets
- 5:16to be a feral feral little horse.
- 5:19He can be hard to catch sometimes he can.
- 5:21He might spook at his own tale. He has his quirk for sure.
- 5:26But he has proven his worst to me and made me prove me to
- 5:30myself as well. So I'm indebted to him.
- 5:34You know like I told you, you want to comment on something.
- 5:36He's so free spirited, I will never ever own him.
- 5:40Whatever. I'm just his guardian.
- 5:42He he's trained, he's not broke. I'll put it like that, you know,
- 5:45and then there's a big difference.
- 5:46I believe. Like I said, he can be feral.
- 5:48You know, there might be times when I need to go to work and
- 5:51well, there is no catching him. He's just like, I ain't going
- 5:53that day. And even though we're buddies,
- 5:55it ain't happening, you know, it don't matter what I do.
- 5:57But there's other times like tonight he met me at the gate.
- 6:00We still have our fights, but we get over them, we go on.
- 6:03I don't know, that's kind of or right now.
- 6:06It took me a long time to trust him though, you know, just from
- 6:09everything that me and him had to work through.
- 6:13Like I said, it's been a long road.
- 6:14But once, like I said, two years later, I'm finally starting to
- 6:17see his personality. Finally.
- 6:20Yeah, it's a long process. A lot of people think it's it's
- 6:23an instant thing or a 30 day or a 90 day thing.
- 6:26And real relationships take time.
- 6:29Yeah, It's just, you know, like us, people like, like good
- 6:32things take time. And if you're in this business
- 6:34to make money quickly, you just might as well go and get on out,
- 6:37you know, because it's not going to happen.
- 6:39You have to be patient. And once again, this guy here
- 6:42taught me this. I had to be because it is on his
- 6:46terms, not mine. As much as I wanted him to be.
- 6:49It wasn't happening. You know, he had to trust you
- 6:51and you had to earn it and he was going to make yarn so it and
- 6:55it's just been a long road man. You know, like I said, it's been
- 6:582 years now and I finally just got his hind feet picked up
- 7:01without a fight the other night, the other night for the first
- 7:04time. And I know he's had shoes on in
- 7:06the past because whenever I bought him he had shoes.
- 7:09But I put it this way, he was so scared of somebody grabbing his
- 7:13back feet, he would lash out. Not necessarily like haul back
- 7:17or anything like that, but he wasn't touching them.
- 7:20And when he finally got to the point where he was let me touch
- 7:22him, he put all his weight on me and lean and lean and lean.
- 7:26If I had to drop him, he's 1600 lbs.
- 7:28Yeah, I'm done holding that up. You know what I mean, son.
- 7:31Realist. Yeah, I have one who does that.
- 7:33It was more obnoxious, you know, than anything.
- 7:36But take a step back. Let's try again.
- 7:38And finally we just we just it was like the light switch
- 7:41flipped just like that. I walked up to him from my hand
- 7:43down. Just pick him right on up.
- 7:45Not a problem. And that was that was a big
- 7:47thing for me right there, because I take care of my horses
- 7:50feet. Now, mind you, he takes care of
- 7:51his feet pretty well, but I still need the ability to pick
- 7:54him up if something is wrong. You know what I mean?
- 7:57He's just, he's so stoic about things like that.
- 7:59It's he's finally, like I said, finally starting to show his
- 8:03real emotions, true colors and relax.
- 8:07And that's, that's a good feeling, knowing that I have
- 8:10that now with him. Yeah.
- 8:12So going back a little bit, you talked about how you basically
- 8:16learned like a cowboy and he kind of wasn't OK with that.
- 8:21No, what are the most definitely he would most definitely not OK
- 8:23with that, Yeah. What are some of that?
- 8:25Because I think a lot of people don't really understand how
- 8:28cruel some training is. Oh, man.
- 8:32And you know, this is stuff people often learn as kids.
- 8:36Like you were a kid when you were learning this stuff.
- 8:38During things they see on TV, what's some other?
- 8:40Stuff that really just. Spark Spurs with him, do some.
- 8:45I ride some of my horses and spurs, absolutely, they need it.
- 8:48But him ain't happening. I can blow on his side and he'll
- 8:51side pass for me. I can go with my breath and
- 8:53he'll side pass for me. He's just that sensitive.
- 8:55I tried to ride him in spurs once.
- 8:57It did not end well. Put it like that.
- 8:59People think you got to kick these guys with spurs.
- 9:01That's not what they're for, you know what I mean?
- 9:03They're it just and tying them down, you know, to do this or
- 9:07that with them. Sometimes, you know, medically
- 9:09it might be necessary. I'll tell you a big thing for me
- 9:12is whips. I'm not against there is a time
- 9:14and a place for him, but you don't have to whip your horse
- 9:19the punish it because they don't understand, you know?
- 9:245 minutes later when you're so angry they're past it, they
- 9:26don't care anymore. So why you still whip it, you
- 9:28know? Yeah.
- 9:30But. Man, that's a huge key that like
- 9:33we might think we're sending some message, but they're not
- 9:37getting the message that we think we're sending with that
- 9:39kind of response to them. Yeah, no, we're making ourselves
- 9:41feel better because like I said, they're, they're over it at that
- 9:45point. You know, as far as the incident
- 9:48that caused you to do that, that's because they're just,
- 9:51they're here. They're right here right now,
- 9:53present. That's a hard concept to grasp
- 9:56until you just finally get it, you know, and you probably know
- 9:59yourself like with him, you know, I told you patience.
- 10:02You have to be present with him and at all times.
- 10:05You, you got to know what you're doing.
- 10:07You got to be in the moment with him right then and there.
- 10:09Because if you don't, he's going to know you slip up and he'll
- 10:14let you know about it. You know, like I said, he's just
- 10:16super quirky. But I love it.
- 10:17I'm the only one that can take him out and go work with him,
- 10:21you know, and chase cows and do what I need to do.
- 10:23But if I put him in the round pen, I put my little girl on his
- 10:25back, but only in the pen. He's that careful.
- 10:29Yeah, but it it really is incredible how I've noticed that
- 10:33with Mustangs that they will really change according to their
- 10:37writer for. Absolutely.
- 10:39Better or worse with kids? Yeah, they they notice.
- 10:42Oh, for sure, for absolutely sure.
- 10:44There there's something about Mustangs and horses in general.
- 10:47I just they know kids are kids and they're innocent.
- 10:50I'll give you a really good example.
- 10:51This guy right here, mind you, me just talking about his hind
- 10:54legs and how just quirky he was about him and like he would lash
- 10:57out, left out the detail that I was messing with his hind feet
- 11:01one time and he kicked me and tore my ACL and MCL and one
- 11:04kick. I left that one out.
- 11:06Yeah. So I was down for a little while
- 11:08and that was another outing experience right there for me.
- 11:11That was. Really.
- 11:12And let's back up. Let's look at ourselves.
- 11:13Let's reevaluate something here, you know what I mean?
- 11:16Because when you're down for, you know, four or five months,
- 11:19you got some time to think. Back to the kids thing, though.
- 11:23I'd ridden him at a local campground down here called
- 11:25Wranglers. My wife was going to come down
- 11:28and lead us, but I got done before she got all the way
- 11:31there. As long as we're short.
- 11:32We met halfway to a City Park, all right.
- 11:35He was still saddle and everything.
- 11:36I pulled him out of the trailer and we was riding around the
- 11:38park because. And towards the end, you know, I
- 11:41was fixing to leave and whatnot. There's a kid with special
- 11:43needs, but I didn't see him coming, but my better half did.
- 11:46And I seen her just get wide eyed, you know, I was like,
- 11:50because he was running towards his hind end, this little kid
- 11:53and grabbed his hind leg and he just, he kind of jumped for a
- 11:56second, but he just turned and looked and nothing, nothing.
- 12:00And I would just think, thought to myself, all right, big guy, I
- 12:03know you're lying to me because you just want me to take your
- 12:05feet from you. But you know, I, I get you.
- 12:08I got you. And like, I was scared to death,
- 12:10you know, that all I could picture was the worst happening,
- 12:13you know, especially after what he'd done to me, you know, and
- 12:15this kids 6-7 years old and you can tell he's special needs, but
- 12:20he don't know any different and he don't know better.
- 12:22But it thankfully that ended up on the good side of things, you
- 12:27know what I mean? Showed me something about him
- 12:29too, that he just being kind of a butt head a little bit, you
- 12:31know about it. I think they also kind of know
- 12:34the intention we're going in with.
- 12:36For sure my horses have. Definitely reacted very
- 12:39differently because you know, maybe it was the vet.
- 12:42Then it. Would have been if we were just
- 12:44going in the pen for something else, yeah.
- 12:46You know, and this guy, like I said, you know, he's standing
- 12:49there pretty pure right now, I'd say.
- 12:51And I just got him dressed and everything.
- 12:53And after we get done, I'm we're going to go ride a little bit
- 12:55and just relax. But they, they know he has
- 12:58different modes for moods. Whatever you want to call him,
- 13:01you know, he knows when we're going to work and he knows when
- 13:02we relax and when we're going to do something he may not be super
- 13:06comfortable with. I mean, that's all about that
- 13:07vibe. They just, you got to be.
- 13:10I have to center myself before I step on him every single time I
- 13:14have to bring myself back down. And he's just he's just not that
- 13:17horse that anybody just can just jump on, you know, for the heck
- 13:20of it. He's very in tune with what's
- 13:22going on. So you have to be centered with
- 13:24him, but he's also one of horses too.
- 13:26That being so in tune, he'll keep you safe, you know what I
- 13:30mean? And he'll let you know when
- 13:32something's not right. You know, I think I told you
- 13:34beforehand about there was 1 even me and him was out and it
- 13:38got dark on us a little quicker than I expected it to.
- 13:41And I didn't have no flashlight, no headlamp, no nothing.
- 13:44So I had two choices to either get off and walk him home or let
- 13:49him carry me home. Well, he was a good little lick
- 13:52from the barn. So I just kind of all right,
- 13:54guy, I don't feel like walking tonight.
- 13:56And I had to, I literally just had to give him the reins and he
- 13:59dumped me. He'd kicked me throwing like
- 14:02bronc and fits previously and I was, well, we got two options
- 14:06Which one's going to go good or bad?
- 14:08And well, he carried me home like a gentleman because out
- 14:10here where I live, it's it's dark.
- 14:12You know, you can't see your hand in front of your face dark.
- 14:13And I, I was forced to trust him.
- 14:18And ever since then too, I guess me and him has had so many just
- 14:21light bulb aha moments that it's just I'm gonna get goosebumps
- 14:24just sitting here thinking about it really.
- 14:26You know, the way he's made me just change and re evaluate
- 14:29myself because I'm, I'm, I'll tell you right now, I'm not a
- 14:31trusting person by nature. I've seen the worst in people
- 14:34before And but the he forced my hand, I guess, you know, and I
- 14:38always think there's divine intervention and things, and I
- 14:41think it was one of them times too.
- 14:43I don't know. He's my, he's my guy, you know,
- 14:45so. What are the things he's
- 14:47demanded from you? You know, if you're going to
- 14:49have a relationship, how has that like being present and
- 14:54other things that you mentioned, has that had an impact on your
- 14:57life outside of horses, with your family, with other?
- 15:00People absolutely all the way around.
- 15:02He's forced me to be a better human being because it if you
- 15:07treat him unfair, he's not going to be nice to you either.
- 15:10And that course just outside, outside of these, you know,
- 15:13pastures and cow fields and whatever the case may be, you
- 15:16know it, I guess you could put the definition of, you know, you
- 15:20treat people how you want to be treated.
- 15:22And outside of that, he just, he taught me how to love correctly.
- 15:25Because there's been, there's been more than one occasion
- 15:27where like, all right, guy, you're going to a sale.
- 15:29But I had to reel myself in and thought of the good stuff.
- 15:32And Needless to say, well, he's still here.
- 15:33But with that being said and the patient's thing, I've got a
- 15:37little girl now, she's 18 months old.
- 15:39And I've actually named her after him because if he didn't
- 15:43teach me how to love correctly, I don't know if I would have
- 15:45known how to love her correctly. That makes sense.
- 15:48Love is work, period. Real love is work.
- 15:50I put it like that. And gentleness and, and kindness
- 15:53and just being forgiving, you know, and understanding.
- 15:57And granted, she's only 18 months old, but she's a little
- 15:59pistol. She's a little female version of
- 16:00me. And it scares me to death, OK?
- 16:03She has No Fear. She'll walk right up to this
- 16:05guy, you know? But that's my little girl.
- 16:09And I know I think about our past and.
- 16:12But I have to trust him too. And I have to, I don't know,
- 16:16it's so hard to explain. It's just just how I feel about
- 16:19everything. And I'm just so just, and I try
- 16:23to take everything in the moment.
- 16:25I'm trying to get too far ahead of myself.
- 16:26I can't look to the past because it doesn't matter now, you know,
- 16:29I mean, can't change it, but just I guess really the biggest
- 16:33thing is just being a better person overall.
- 16:35And if I'm going to love something, love it completely,
- 16:37you know, and fully, like I said, he's just, he's changed my
- 16:40life just to make me be a better person.
- 16:41You have to be to be around him. Not he don't want anything to do
- 16:44with you if you're not, if you don't have a good intention,
- 16:46he's not having anything to do with you, period.
- 16:49I'm going to prove that time and time again with him and other
- 16:51people. So because of that, it's made me
- 16:53want to be a better person because I want them.
- 16:55It's not that you know, you can't be, you're not going to
- 16:58make everybody happy, but you can still be a good person no
- 17:00matter what you do. And he's made me grow up.
- 17:03He's turned me in from a nice guy into a good man.
- 17:05I firmly believe there's a difference in that.
- 17:07He's one of the horses too, that he said he where he's such kind
- 17:10of a problem child at first from all this trauma and just there's
- 17:14lots of cases out there and there's people that I feel even
- 17:16could have done better than me with him.
- 17:18You know, that I wasn't deserving of him one time
- 17:20because I see his potential. I've seen his potential through
- 17:22all the all the crap that he put up as a front.
- 17:25I've seen what he could do and what he's capable of and I think
- 17:29what he wanted to be. But just like us, he put up some
- 17:32walls when he got hurt and breaking the walls down has been
- 17:36hard, you know? Coming back with that though, I
- 17:38had to break mine down too to get over his and we've done it
- 17:41together. Like I said before, I thought I
- 17:43was helping him though. He's really just helping me and
- 17:45I'm loading all my trouble from my past too, because I had to
- 17:49let things go. Well, if I can do it, maybe they
- 17:51can do it too, you know? And it all takes time.
- 17:54Once again, rolls back right back to the patients thing.
- 17:56I guess that's what it all comes down to really.
- 17:58It's going to have more time than they do.
- 18:00Yeah, yeah. And I really believe that, you
- 18:03know, there's particular horses that find particular people.
- 18:06I really feel like that with my first mare.
- 18:09She kind of came along just when I needed her and taught me just
- 18:12the things that I wasn't getting other places in life.
- 18:16And it sounds like he's really done the same thing.
- 18:18Not only can you maybe relate to his past, which I think is
- 18:22really powerful, but. Just the.
- 18:24Fact that he is kind of taught you the lessons you needed.
- 18:28Yes, he's, he's made me grow up. And yeah, he told me from a
- 18:31cowboy to a horseman, because you have to be a horseman with
- 18:34this guy. And I'd much rather be that, you
- 18:38know, I don't have. You see, he's wearing a basil.
- 18:40This guy, he ain't going to take a bit.
- 18:42Forget it. He flowed me across around being
- 18:44trying to put a bit in his mouth.
- 18:45Of course, guy, what happened? Once again, I had to trust him.
- 18:48I can peel that thing off of him right now.
- 18:49I'm running around making spin holes on the ground.
- 18:51You know, it all comes back to that trauma thing too.
- 18:53I guess that from being in the military and some childhood
- 18:56trauma center too, you know what I mean?
- 18:58He's brought brought them forth things that truth be told,
- 19:02things that I had suppressed that couldn't even actually
- 19:05recall until after maybe, you know, speaking to somebody about
- 19:07it, the try and piece memories back together, if that makes
- 19:11sense, you know, and it really brought to some hidden truths, I
- 19:18guess that I needed to face. So he brought some skeletons
- 19:21back out, I guess that I needed to get rid of.
- 19:25I'll be honestly one of the biggest ones was druggies.
- 19:29That's the ball and chain I'll always carry as being an addict.
- 19:31Okay, I haven't done anything now in probably five years, but
- 19:36there was coming a point in time to where I was really kind of
- 19:38teeter tottering with it again, just with life struggles, you
- 19:40know, I mean, that's really what drives people into that.
- 19:42I've had some people around that I knew maybe kind of dabbled in
- 19:46things and he's just like he didn't want to be nowhere near
- 19:50him. You know what I mean?
- 19:51At all Completely. So he's made me stay sober and
- 19:55clean because it just, you know, don't get me wrong, he's I've
- 19:58got other horses out here, but he's really kind of my go to, I
- 20:02guess when I really need to get something done and just to hang
- 20:05out with. But whenever I need to be still,
- 20:08I go to him and I mean truly be still.
- 20:10Of course, you know they'll kind of let you, your mind wandering
- 20:13this and that, but if you're not there, he won't be neither.
- 20:16And that more ways than one with that.
- 20:18There's only been two horses my entire life that I've been able
- 20:21to feel everything they've ever been through when I put my hands
- 20:24on them. And I own both of them.
- 20:25So whenever we was first going to see him and this and that,
- 20:29you know, every time we go, always keep a saddle and riding
- 20:32gear with me, OK, I'd always riding every time I messed up
- 20:35doing that. And I know that now what I
- 20:37should have done is feel him first before I ask him anything
- 20:42else. But the very last time I went to
- 20:44go see him before I went home, I got a trailer was I put my hands
- 20:47on him like truly put my hands on him and he broke me.
- 20:50It was his he was this helped me look in his eye, but scared to
- 20:53death all at the same time because he didn't know what was
- 20:55next. You know what I mean?
- 20:57I knew that he knew something about you could just see it.
- 20:59All right, here we go again. Where am I going now?
- 21:00I don't know. It's just so hard to explain.
- 21:02Say it was like not influenced everyone.
- 21:04I put both my hands on him and I I didn't care.
- 21:06He could have committed murder right then.
- 21:08I would still take him home. He will stay with me until the
- 21:11end of his days. He will not go anywhere else.
- 21:13He is home here, period. I've had people offer me, hand
- 21:18me blank checks. What do you want for him?
- 21:19I said your pockets are not deep enough.
- 21:21And it's not because of how fancy he is or this or that.
- 21:25It's just simply what he's done for me, you know?
- 21:27And I don't think anybody else can handle him, to be honest,
- 21:30because you have to know how to take him.
- 21:31And then now like me, you know, a lot of my friends tell me that
- 21:35I'm from, well, a butt head will put it like that, you know, and
- 21:39you kind of have to know how to take me.
- 21:41You have to get to know me. It's like I've had to get to
- 21:43know him. And I don't think people would
- 21:45put up with that unless you are in this for the right reasons
- 21:48and you would truly see him. You know, I'm still talking
- 21:51about it. And I think really there's
- 21:53something all up. He just wanted to be seen.
- 21:54At the end of the day. He just wanted to be seen
- 21:56instead of a tool, you know, he's big, he's strong, and he'll
- 22:00work out. He'll do everything you want him
- 22:01to. But a lot of people just seen
- 22:02him with a tool. And I've seen him for what he
- 22:05is. Yeah, I know.
- 22:06But yeah. And, you know, that's kind of
- 22:08the reason I put him in here, too.
- 22:09He's. I feel like he deserves the
- 22:11recognition, too. Yeah.
- 22:12I. Love it.
- 22:13I wouldn't know how to do it any other way.
- 22:14That's one of my best friends right there.
- 22:15I have more 4th best friends than I have human best friends.
- 22:18OK, I'll just be honest, I don't much other spend time with these
- 22:20guys than anybody else, you know?
- 22:22Yeah, I know that feeling. And I love what you said when
- 22:26you talked about going to see him, how the first thing you did
- 22:30with him shouldn't have been to jump on and ride.
- 22:33I think that's such a typical thing for us to do.
- 22:37Right, we look. At the horse and base the worth
- 22:39on What does he know? How well is he under?
- 22:43Saddle and. Yeah, How would it change the
- 22:45world if we kind of stepped back and we're like, let's fill the
- 22:49horse first, you know, and see what's there between us?
- 22:53Well, here's my claim with that. If they don't know how to feel
- 22:56themselves, how are they going to feel that horse too?
- 22:58If they don't know how to decipher their own feelings and
- 23:00emotions, So there's no way they can decipher theirs too.
- 23:03You know, that's kind of, I guess really my thoughts on it
- 23:05like that. I don't know, I guess you can go
- 23:08either way, but it'd make you step back and really think about
- 23:10the whole picture. I think if you can't feel, not,
- 23:13you know, and I'm talking like feel with your, your soul, not
- 23:16your, not your hands or your legs is that, but like hear
- 23:19what's going on and what's their mental state and how they, what
- 23:22they think about things then. But he doesn't what you do
- 23:25doesn't matter if they're not OK with it too.
- 23:28You know what I mean? Because the reality of it is, is
- 23:30guys, I'm not tougher than he is.
- 23:32I'm not tougher than any of these horses out here.
- 23:33And sure, I might be without muscle one or two, but I'm going
- 23:36to come across one that I can't do that with.
- 23:37With that being said, though, you know, if you don't want them
- 23:40to do it, well, they ain't going to do it.
- 23:41But if you can connect on an emotional level, make them feel
- 23:44safe, odds are they'll probably follow you and they'll do it for
- 23:47you willingly. And it's not a forced effort.
- 23:50It just it, it goes back to how much time you want to put in
- 23:52them, how patient, how patient are you truly and willing to
- 23:57connect with him on a personal level?
- 23:59I guess because it is a personal experience.
- 24:01It's a spiritual experience really.
- 24:03Absolutely. I think one time we I'd
- 24:06mentioned something to you about people have brought me Mustangs
- 24:09in the past and want me. The first thing they want to do
- 24:12is take the wild out of them. I I'm still in a battle with
- 24:15that. Is it fair to them?
- 24:17Is it? I still don't know where I stand
- 24:18on that, you know what I mean? But every horse I come into
- 24:20contact with is it's always they get a little piece of me every
- 24:24time. I don't matter if it's, you
- 24:26know, I'm walking through an oxygen or a friend of mine's
- 24:29personal horse and I put my hands on them or I just, I let
- 24:33them have just this little piece of something.
- 24:35That way they feel that little bit of worth or love or just
- 24:40maybe it's not just moment. They know what it's like, you
- 24:43know what I mean? And that's me kind of humanizing
- 24:46them. But I'll be honest, I've met a
- 24:48lot of smart people and some pretty smart dogs, but I met
- 24:52some really, really, really smart horses.
- 24:53That's scary smart that you know, it's just their
- 24:56intelligence level, but their emotional capabilities is just
- 25:00they still baffle me and amaze me with it.
- 25:03What they, what they will put up with and they will tolerate.
- 25:06And until they finally say, no, I'm done, I'm not going to do it
- 25:09no more. And then then you're like, wait
- 25:14a minute now, now why you, why you throwing a fit now?
- 25:16You know, but you wouldn't listen.
- 25:19And that that goes back to me with the knee thing, him kicking
- 25:21me in the knee. I wasn't listening until he had
- 25:24to scream it at me. And when he screamed it, you
- 25:27know, so, but you know, the crazy thing about that is
- 25:31they're like, he was telling me, you know what I'm saying?
- 25:33Hey, I need you to quit. I need you to quit.
- 25:35But I kept pushing. Yeah, he he tore my ACL and MCL
- 25:38there. But you know what he done after
- 25:40there after that, he stood there and looked at me.
- 25:42He didn't run away. He stood there and looked at me
- 25:44like I told you so. Yeah.
- 25:46Are you going to listen yet? And.
- 25:48That's exactly what it was. He looked at me like, told you,
- 25:51you should have been listening, guy.
- 25:53And you know, I don't know if that was the icing on the cake
- 25:55for me to really like, all right, I don't know the true
- 25:58turning point there. You know, I'm saying there's
- 25:59just been these little incidents that's really just made me
- 26:02rethink things all the way through our journey together.
- 26:05Like I said, you know, he's changed me.
- 26:09And I got, you know, another guy out there that I just got here
- 26:12recently. He's feral as they can be.
- 26:14But I just see something about him and maybe he'll change me
- 26:17again. Yeah.
- 26:17But yeah, I'm sure he will. But they all do, whether they're
- 26:20domesticated or coming from the wild.
- 26:22But if something about a wild horse, they're raw.
- 26:24You know exactly where you stand every time.
- 26:26Every time. They ain't gonna lie to you.
- 26:27And it's once again, it's got to be on their time.
- 26:30And I like it. I don't know, I just like it.
- 26:32Hey. What was the thing that made you
- 26:34stick with him? Like, that was a pretty rough
- 26:36start, especially when he's, you know, putting you out to where
- 26:40you can't probably work for a while.
- 26:42No, I, I kept. Going when everything was so
- 26:44difficult. I don't know.
- 26:46And I just, I knew what he was capable of.
- 26:48I just seen it like whenever I felt him, I knew.
- 26:50Like, there's so much more to it that these were just.
- 26:54I knew they were walls. He was protecting himself.
- 26:57I can't give you an honest answer to that question.
- 26:59I just. And part of I can give you, part
- 27:01of that honest answer is my stubbornness.
- 27:04That's part of it, Yeah. To not want to fail something.
- 27:08And yeah. And part of it too is because I
- 27:12was starting to recognize his trauma and he was changing how I
- 27:15was doing things. I didn't want to fail him
- 27:17because everybody else had nobody else that saw him.
- 27:19And I was finally starting to see him and I didn't want to
- 27:21fail him. Even if I would be OK right now
- 27:23if he was a pastor pet, if that's all he could be, I'd be
- 27:25OK with that too. It doesn't matter to me.
- 27:27That's not what he can do in this.
- 27:29That isn't his worth to me. What he's done for me is where
- 27:33his worth stands. You know, like I said, I don't
- 27:36care who you are, you ain't going to buy him from me.
- 27:37So if anybody gets any ideas, you know.
- 27:41Don't even ask. Don't even ask.
- 27:43Well, you can, but you're going to get the same answer, you
- 27:45know, not for sale, But he's, he's too special.
- 27:48I don't know. There's something about him and
- 27:50the the fact that my 18 month old daughter can walk right up
- 27:53to him when this horse has tried to essentially kill me.
- 27:56I'm not helping him for just to do it.
- 27:59I guess I'm helping him for her too, because one of my dreams is
- 28:03one of my goals that maybe one day she'll be able to step up on
- 28:06him. And.
- 28:08Oh yeah, he carry her safely. I think she will be twice the
- 28:12horseman I am or she'll be a horse woman.
- 28:14But and I think he'll be twice as good compared to when me and
- 28:18him first met. And I think that'd be a hard duo
- 28:20to be, you know, in a few years. Yeah, I think that's going to
- 28:22happen. There's a good chance.
- 28:24I hope so. I'm proud of this guy and just
- 28:27how far he's come. I mean, you know, me and my
- 28:29wife, we talk about it, right? You already I see the little
- 28:32growth, you know, spots that he's made since we've had him.
- 28:35Even though the process has been long, it's been worth it because
- 28:39it's gratifying to me too. It makes me feel good.
- 28:41It makes me know that I'm doing OK.
- 28:42I'm doing right by him, and I feel like I'm doing him justice.
- 28:46And I hope I am. But you know, every day is a new
- 28:50day. You know, he could have a whole
- 28:52meltdown tomorrow. You never know.
- 28:53But that's OK. We'll work through it just so we
- 28:56have everything else. Hopefully he can find comfort in
- 28:59my guidance. Where he's nobody else has given
- 29:02him that opportunity. Like I said, he was leased out
- 29:05as a youngster, you know, to do whatever whoever wanted to do.
- 29:09He just never seen any. He just, I don't know, man.
- 29:12Is it? You don't know till you know, I
- 29:14guess. You know, That's the best way I
- 29:15know to put it, yeah. It is true.
- 29:17It's hard to describe when you haven't felt that.
- 29:19It is. I try to explain that people,
- 29:21that's why you know my my with what I do here, this, this place
- 29:25it. I just want people to experience
- 29:27what it's like to know the pureness of these guys because
- 29:31in it's if they're sacred, maybe we're in this land a long time
- 29:34before we have. I just want people to experience
- 29:36love from an equine, I guess, for like a better words and
- 29:39maybe set their heart on fire for him too.
- 29:41So I use this guy for an example that a lot, to be honest with
- 29:45you. And I tell kind of people the
- 29:47same thing we've been talking about here, how much we've been
- 29:49through this, and it's just a whole bunch of crap.
- 29:52And finally we're starting to see the lot, you know what I
- 29:53mean? And yeah, but it's been hard and
- 29:57tough, but it's been so worth it to me because.
- 30:00Yeah, I think that's definitely part.
- 30:02It kind of almost gets worse pretty bad before it gets really
- 30:05good. For sure, absolutely.
- 30:07For sure. Particularly with these guys
- 30:09because, you know, they, they grew up running the land and we
- 30:11took that away from and they're going to get the point where I
- 30:15don't know if there's, they have a resentment feeling, I guess,
- 30:18for lack of better words, but there come a point in time or
- 30:20feel if they test us to see where their boundaries are
- 30:22again, you know, and that's why I think you have to be fair with
- 30:26them, understand their point of view.
- 30:28I guess we like better words and take it into consideration when
- 30:31you're training them, you know, and riding them too, because
- 30:34they might have that feral moment where, well, they don't
- 30:37care. They're they're they're just
- 30:38being a horse again. But trying to reel them back in
- 30:40with a reassurance and not be a cowboy and not getting them
- 30:44around. You know, that it just I don't
- 30:46think it does any good. Try to got them back to the
- 30:48civilized world. You know those moments happen.
- 30:50Yeah, I like how you put that they they test you because I do
- 30:54think that they will kind of come with the approach.
- 30:57And if it's Mustangs are not for you, they're going to kind of, I
- 31:01would say you self select yourself out because if you're
- 31:04not willing to kind of reevaluate, Start learning from
- 31:08them. You have not going to be a
- 31:10really great. Experience, yeah.
- 31:11You know, you said it's, it's on their time.
- 31:13It has to be on their time. You know, they're they're a
- 31:16mayor of you. You're afraid if they, you said
- 31:18take a step back and reevaluate, reevaluate yourself if you're
- 31:22afraid of growth or change or facing something you haven't and
- 31:27you're just, you're not going to go anywhere because everything I
- 31:30just listed, that's the same thing they're going through
- 31:32right then and there when you're trying to get them to do this or
- 31:34that, you know, you have to grow with them.
- 31:39Period. Yeah.
- 31:40Did you ever doubt yourself throughout the process with him?
- 31:43Multiple times, multiple times even now, still sometimes I
- 31:47think, you know, and I say, you know, through the process, it's
- 31:50still the process. This isn't, you know, there's
- 31:52now there's tomorrow. It's it's always a process.
- 31:55But there's been multiple times where somebody else could do
- 31:57better with him. He deserves he deserves more
- 31:59than me because, you know, I guess it's lack of knowledge or
- 32:03my lack of confidence in myself or all right, it's never really
- 32:07been him. It's I'd hit a wall and I didn't
- 32:10know which direction to go. I'm so I just started chipping
- 32:12away at it, you know, and finally I get that little crack
- 32:15where I could start breaking through there, you know, and
- 32:18that's when I'm kind of all right now.
- 32:20Now we're getting somewhere. Let's relax, take a step back
- 32:22for a minute. Let's look at the picture again,
- 32:24see what we was doing and re evaluate again, you know, before
- 32:28we find him a breakthrough multiple times.
- 32:30Like I said, it's just he's been far the toughest horse I've ever
- 32:34had to work with my entire life because he's made me re evaluate
- 32:37everything. He's he's still he still amazes
- 32:39me everyday. Some of the stuff I've seen him
- 32:41do, like this guy truly will put thought behind his actions
- 32:45before he does it. And I'm not talking just like,
- 32:47you know, riding and this and that, like he will think about
- 32:50something. If he wants out that gate, he's
- 32:52going, you're going to watch him sit back and think how he's
- 32:55going to open that gate. You know, whether he's going to
- 32:57go through it or he's going to pick the lock or what the case
- 32:59might be. Most things are scary smart.
- 33:01I guess you could in the civilized world, you can say
- 33:04they have St. smarts, you know, but but it's the truth, though.
- 33:07Him and my other one that I have out here right now, them
- 33:10together is dangerous because of just what they could do, you
- 33:13know, and get themselves in trouble.
- 33:14They're so smart. They're dumb in the way, you
- 33:16know, Yeah, sometimes, but. Yeah.
- 33:21That's what's kept him alive all this time, you know, and got him
- 33:24here, you know. But when you learn how to take
- 33:27that and grasp it and use it to your advantage, not to your
- 33:31advantage, but to help them understand something better,
- 33:34things go a whole lot smoother. And that took me a minute to
- 33:37figure out with him, especially just how to speak to his
- 33:40language. And I tell you really what got
- 33:42me through after me kind of stepping back is everything that
- 33:45like I said, everything I thought I knew that he showed me
- 33:47that I didn't know, you know, to correct the horse.
- 33:50Most time people are going to move their feet.
- 33:53This guy didn't care, so I took all punishment away.
- 33:55You did something wrong. Oh, well, let's try again.
- 33:57I let him recenter himself. I recenter myself and we tried
- 34:01again and it didn't matter. It took one time or took 100
- 34:04times. Those little behaviors that I
- 34:06didn't like are bad things eventually just worked
- 34:08themselves out and went away. And now mind you, that doesn't
- 34:11work for that reforce. But with these guys, I really
- 34:14feel that it does. It just, it has, once again,
- 34:16that's kind of just letting them figure it out themselves, you
- 34:18know what I mean? There's a level of fairness in
- 34:21there and respect because they don't know what they don't know,
- 34:25you know what I mean? Especially if they haven't been
- 34:27born into the domesticated world because they hadn't been, you
- 34:33know, So you, you have to take that into consideration.
- 34:37I don't know it, I guess that's really all I got on that one.
- 34:40But this, and it's like you said, though, taking all his
- 34:42punishment away. That's what I found to work.
- 34:44That's how I somebody got him to trust me.
- 34:47I've just found that, like I said that by doing that all
- 34:49these little nitpick behaviors of just kind of work themselves
- 34:53out and I've applied that with all the other horses.
- 34:56And don't get me wrong, they still get corrected and
- 34:59reprimanded, but I'm not the my punishment is only severe as the
- 35:02crime. So if it's something petty, I
- 35:04know it's they figure it out time.
- 35:07But this guy here, you know where you've been in so many
- 35:10different places. I'm assuming he didn't know what
- 35:12to expect. So when I took it everything
- 35:14away, you know, if he done something silly, it he was like
- 35:18he had to sit and reprogram and think, which is what we're
- 35:22always out there just getting them to think, you know what I
- 35:24mean? Because in order to mentally
- 35:27engage with him, you know, I because I wasn't getting
- 35:29anywhere, just hustling him around, I had to figure out how
- 35:32to get through to his brain. And that was how I done it right
- 35:35there. It's worked on him and it's
- 35:36worked on a few others too. You know, it's not the the the
- 35:40key thing there for every horse, but it and I never ever done
- 35:43that before and tell him take him along.
- 35:46It was always was cowboy him up make a move and well, but he
- 35:49just didn't care So and. I think everybody wants the
- 35:53yeah, I think everybody wants the easy horses, you know?
- 35:55But it really is the ones that don't just accept everything so
- 36:00easily that are the ones that really teach you how to do it
- 36:02better. Absolutely.
- 36:03That's how that's growth requires a little bit of pain
- 36:07and sometimes that I don't mean that physically, but just having
- 36:11to think things stir and reevaluate.
- 36:12Once again, not everybody likes that and he wasn't not only he
- 36:16would accept, he wouldn't tolerate it.
- 36:18And that's the thing, you know it in a way it taught me what my
- 36:22morals need to be. You know what I'll tolerate what
- 36:25I won't tolerate from people to to animals.
- 36:28You know what I'm saying? Well, I say he made me like
- 36:32reevaluate everything about myself out.
- 36:34That's I completely mean that 100%.
- 36:37I had to. This has not been an easy Rd.
- 36:39with him. It's been like I said, baby
- 36:41steps the whole way, but he's had to let go of a lot of his
- 36:44past and so have I in order to build on Ford.
- 36:48We've done it together. That's really all I got on.
- 36:50We've done it together every day.
- 36:52I come see him up here, you know, I'm barn.
- 36:56He's kind of he's one of the special ones that's taken.
- 36:58He holds a piece of my heart and all of me get a piece of me,
- 37:02like I said. But this guy, he's just somebody
- 37:04mechanics. I don't have any rhyme or
- 37:06reason. Yeah.
- 37:07Do you think there was something that prepared you to be ready to
- 37:11because you had to change a lot? I know with me I also had to
- 37:14change a lot, which went down into my everyday life.
- 37:18Do you think there's anything that made you ready to?
- 37:21Handle him? No, absolutely not.
- 37:23There. There was nothing like.
- 37:24I was to be ready to to. To grow and to reevaluate
- 37:28myself. It Yeah, like I said, everything
- 37:31I thought I knew nothing worked. When I said nothing worked, I
- 37:34literally mean nothing worked. He didn't care.
- 37:37He truly did not care. So that's how I was like, fine,
- 37:39let's do nothing. And I finally started getting my
- 37:41breakthroughs. Sometimes in the middle of chaos
- 37:45in our lives, we need to do nothing.
- 37:47Don't and don't try to do anything about it.
- 37:49Let the answer come and you'll find it.
- 37:52You, you will know when it's there.
- 37:54And that was kind of, I guess after me, these little
- 37:57breakthroughs with him, after I'm doing nothing.
- 37:59I was like, aha, it was, it was a light bulb.
- 38:02I get it. And now, you know, in the middle
- 38:05chaos in my life, you know, everybody, you know, you, you
- 38:09know anybody, they have their everyday stresses.
- 38:11But if I can't fix it right now, I'm not going to worry about it.
- 38:14I'm not going to let it consume me, you know, We'll cross that
- 38:17bridge when it gets to us. So I have to be still and just
- 38:21not worry about it, you know, and do nothing because I can't
- 38:24do anything anyways. You know that that's hard.
- 38:29Everybody wants to be these problem solvers and you know,
- 38:31and fix things will sometimes you can't fix it if it ain't
- 38:34broke because it ain't there yet.
- 38:35You don't know if it's going to be broke or not.
- 38:37So you just, you got to let it come to you.
- 38:40That once again comes back to that being still and being
- 38:42present. Let's be here, right here, right
- 38:44now. Being present takes practice.
- 38:47Lots and lots of practice. Yeah, You know these things.
- 38:52We're talking all right now. You know, the hustle and bustle.
- 38:54Truth be told, if I wasn't talking to you, I wouldn't have
- 38:57my phone in this barn. My phone would be in the truck.
- 38:59And that's one way I keep myself present with these guys at all
- 39:02times because I get distracted just as easy as the next person.
- 39:05But this is my refuge, just like I want it to be theirs, too.
- 39:08So by illuminating my connection to the outside world, I guess if
- 39:12you want to call it, I have to be present here because nothing
- 39:14else matters, you know? And I found that it just has let
- 39:18me be able to have a better relationship with all of my
- 39:21horses in general because it makes me see, you know what I
- 39:25mean? It makes me really look at them,
- 39:27see their emotional state, see their mental state, if they're
- 39:29comfortable. Give you a good example here.
- 39:31I've had a fence down, about a 5060 foot section of fence down
- 39:35for two weeks. They haven't left.
- 39:36And it's simple because I haven't had the time to go fix
- 39:39it, you know what I mean? But that tells me they're happy
- 39:41here at least. At least that's what I like to
- 39:43think, you know, because, you know, of course they don't want
- 39:47to be somewhere they're going to get gone, you know, they're
- 39:50going to leave. And well, yeah, they are still,
- 39:53you know, and I, I'm kind of proud of myself for that one.
- 39:56I guess I like to pat myself on my back because I feel like I'm
- 39:59doing something right to give them that feeling of safety.
- 40:02It's something as simple as that, you know what I mean?
- 40:05Because I know a lot of people personally that if they get a
- 40:08fence down on open gate, their critters are gone.
- 40:11See ya, they're out of there. I guess.
- 40:12Really one of my biggest fears with him.
- 40:15If he ever got loose, if I'd be able to catch him, if he'd go
- 40:17back to his feral state of mind. But he's had every opportunity
- 40:21that makes me feel like I'm again, like I'm doing him
- 40:23justice. And I guess doing myself
- 40:24justice, I guess doing myself justice, too, because this shows
- 40:27his growth in mind as well, if that makes sense at all, You
- 40:31know? Yeah, because there's an open
- 40:33door for them to leave if they want want to go, you know?
- 40:36Yeah, trap up. Share with us what you're doing
- 40:39now and how you know you, how you move forward with your
- 40:43philosophy with horses now and then, of course, where people
- 40:47can find you if they're interested in working with you.
- 40:49So I guess the biggest thing with with I ask them, I ask the
- 40:54horse before I do anything, I ask them.
- 40:56And that could be something simple, just standing in a pin
- 40:58with them and just standing there.
- 41:00It's something as silly as it sounds, I'll get down on one
- 41:02knee and I'll bow to them and I'll thank them for let me be
- 41:05able to work with you if they want want to, you know, I mean,
- 41:08and I always offer the horseman handshake, you know, the back of
- 41:11the hand. Let them come to me and I with
- 41:14everybody that comes to my barn in my facility, that's kind of
- 41:17my one of my pet peeves. Let them come to you.
- 41:19Let them touch you first because that's it's, you know, everybody
- 41:22wants to go pet them on the face, on cheek.
- 41:23I think it's rude. It's no different than me
- 41:25meeting a stranger, you know, and touching them on the face.
- 41:28It's rude. I wouldn't like it.
- 41:30Yeah. You know, but.
- 41:32Yeah. And a lot of horses, don't we
- 41:34just no. Anyway, yeah, I mean it.
- 41:37Try to I ask before I do anything and I always I apply
- 41:42that to every single horse I throw a leg across.
- 41:45I'll give them all the benefits of doubt everyone of them until
- 41:49they show me something different and it's just I always look for
- 41:52their try. You know, that's that's really
- 41:54the been the big thing right there.
- 41:55I ask when I look for their try a whole lot more.
- 41:57Whereas if I was blind to it, I was ignorant to it beforehand
- 42:01because I didn't know any different.
- 42:02But now if I see their, they're trying to at least understand
- 42:06what I'm asking of them that that's good for me because I
- 42:08want them to understand the why of what what I'm asking them
- 42:13then or worry about the finesse of it later.
- 42:17And that just makes a big difference.
- 42:20All and all honesty that comes all the way back to this guy
- 42:23here. You had to earn his respect
- 42:28before you did anything. And still, even now, there's
- 42:30days where I have to ask him before I get on him.
- 42:33Hey, you know, you care. You know, let's go take a ride.
- 42:36And and sometimes we have to sit and think about it.
- 42:41He'll kind of he I don't know where he learned it or what not,
- 42:45but he'll give me a nod that he's he's OK, let's go.
- 42:48You know that his sign of approval is his little nod that
- 42:51he does might be just a quirk. I don't know.
- 42:53But it's how I know. And I got to, I got to find that
- 42:57little signal and all, all the horses that I encounter of
- 43:00their, their approval. What's, you know, whether it be
- 43:02a licking chew from them or some little strange thing they do,
- 43:06you know, they're all different, all have their own
- 43:07personalities. And you got to work with that
- 43:10and you have to be, they said you got to shift too back and
- 43:13forth with them because what works for one may not work for
- 43:15another. And, and stand them and meet
- 43:18them where they are. I guess really that's all of it
- 43:22in a nutshell, I guess is meeting them where they are and
- 43:23asking them, you know, and it's, it's made it easier for me in my
- 43:27horsemanship because some a horse is willing, because they
- 43:31feel sane and understood is a whole lot easier to work with
- 43:36and a horse is forced and it's forced to comply.
- 43:40I don't want that. I want them to do it for me
- 43:42because they want to, you know, I'm not going back to them being
- 43:45my partner. But as far as finding me goes,
- 43:47Rewind Ranch and Rehab LLC on Facebook, that's really my main
- 43:51source of, you know, media that I use.
- 43:53Me and my wife both have access to it.
- 43:55So, you know, shoot us a message and we'll get back with you, you
- 43:59know, and go from there. Love to have anybody out.
- 44:03I don't I don't charge. You want to come out and ride
- 44:06and just experience horses. I don't charge for that.
- 44:09I'll be honest. I just want you to experience
- 44:11and maybe feel the love for these guys that I have, you
- 44:14know, if I can put somebody that finds a joy in them and I can
- 44:18teach somebody what I know and they take it and run with it and
- 44:21they make it their own and they can help other horses down the
- 44:24roads. And I've done my job.
- 44:25That's kind of how I see it. I'm all about, I'm about these
- 44:29guys right here because I mean, I can think of a million better
- 44:32things to do, you know, But on the same hand that I can't
- 44:35because I'm doing this for them back here, it's not for me.
- 44:40I want to help them because the reality of it is they're already
- 44:43broke. I want to help them heal just
- 44:45like they'd help me, you know, So that way, I guess they can be
- 44:48good outstanding citizens if you want to put it like that.
- 44:51Because a horse that feels sane, trusted and love, I mean, then
- 44:58they'll always have a home. And that's important to me.
- 45:00That's why every horse I kind of, they lead with a little
- 45:02piece of me. And do I know the reality of it
- 45:05is sometimes it doesn't always work out in their favor.
- 45:08And this once again, this is, this is a hard business to be in
- 45:11because it gets personal for me. Every horse is personal because
- 45:14I give them everything I got and I and I try to do the very, very
- 45:19best with them that I can. And so it so it is taxing in a
- 45:23way, you know, but very rewarding the same time, you
- 45:25know, to see them come from, you know, traumatic, you know,
- 45:29episodes or series in their life and to want your attention now
- 45:33and finally coming out their shell.
- 45:34It's very it feels good to me, you know, that they're like it
- 45:38now. So so it's very, very, very
- 45:41personal and on a spiritual level to you.
- 45:44They're my, they are my connection to the higher power
- 45:48out there. That that's how I connect with
- 45:50them, you know? Yeah.
- 45:52Same for me. Once again, you know.
- 45:54You don't know till you know. Quite surreal, to be honest.
- 45:56It's just really hard to describe.
- 45:57You already know this. Yeah.
- 45:59So you know it. I don't know where it is.
- 46:03I don't know if you know. It is a hard thing to describe,
- 46:07but if you've been there and you've felt it, you know exactly
- 46:10what people are talking about when they when they try to.
- 46:13And there's nothing quite like being with a horse.
- 46:16No. And then you, if you seek it, if
- 46:19you truly feel it, you like you seek it becomes a drug, you
- 46:22know, and that's, that's really how I explained to people, I
- 46:25think Clint Anderson said it, that, you know, they become like
- 46:27a drug, either you got it or you don't.
- 46:30And once you once you find it, you want it more.
- 46:32So it was very, very true statement there.
- 46:35Yeah. Yeah, well, I want to thank you
- 46:37for being here, Jimmy, and for all the things that you have
- 46:40shared about your journey and your experience.
- 46:43And it's really cool to hear you know, where you came from, this
- 46:47place that was difficult and traumatic.
- 46:49And along with your Mustang, you guys have taken you and your
- 46:53family and your little girl who's going to know the beauty
- 46:56of horses and all those wonderful things and all the
- 46:58people whose lives I know that you're going to touch both
- 47:01through your training and, you know, through talking here.
- 47:04I just really want to commend you for for taking the
- 47:08opportunity to learn and grow and make it into something so
- 47:11beautiful. I try, that's all I can just try
- 47:13and, you know, be my best mom. I want to be, you know, they,
- 47:18they all teach us something. So and I and I take it I've had
- 47:21to run with it. So I appreciate it.
- 47:23Yeah, absolutely. I think you're definitely doing
- 47:25it. I feel they all deserve to be
- 47:27seen for just being here, literally for them just being
- 47:29here. I mean, because it's, it's, we
- 47:31don't deserve them, you know? Thank you for joining us and
