Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey, what's happened? Everyone?
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome into another episode of the Checko Daily. Andrew de Checko,
- 0:15Speaker 2: Eagles beat reporter for insidethebirds dot Com. Some housekeeping items
- 0:20Speaker 2: to get out of the way before I talk a
- 0:22Speaker 2: little bit about a few Day three prospects, what I
- 0:25Speaker 2: know and maybe their outlook going into rookie camp OTAs
- 0:31Speaker 2: and then of course training camp. But the Eagles lost
- 0:35Speaker 2: another important member of the front office today in Alec Halliby,
- 0:41Speaker 2: the assistant general manager, a protege of sorts to Howie
- 0:45Speaker 2: Roseman and someone who has been at the forefront of analytics.
- 0:53Speaker 2: A brilliant guy. Went to Harvard University. He joined the
- 0:57Speaker 2: Eagles as an intern in two thousand and became the
- 1:01Speaker 2: assistant general manager in twenty twenty two. And this is
- 1:06Speaker 2: just a bright, a bright football mind. He's especially when
- 1:11Speaker 2: it comes to the analytics piece, and it seemed as
- 1:15Speaker 2: though he'd be primed for a general manager opening elsewhere.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Howie Roseman has it pretty well covered here in Philadelphia.
- 1:22Speaker 2: But I think it's more so of a byproduct of
- 1:26Speaker 2: when you're in a successful organization and you have success
- 1:33Speaker 2: a year over a year, sometimes you look for the
- 1:38Speaker 2: next challenge if you've held a role for a certain
- 1:41Speaker 2: period of time, kind of like any other job. If
- 1:44Speaker 2: you're holding that job for a while and you're a
- 1:47Speaker 2: self motivator, you're going to try to strive for more.
- 1:52Speaker 2: There's always so much he would be able to handle,
- 1:55Speaker 2: or or there's always so far he'd be able to
- 1:58Speaker 2: climb as far as titles go. With Howie Roseman occupying
- 2:02Speaker 2: the executive vice president and general manager role, and so.
- 2:09Speaker 1: I thought this might have been an offseason in which.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Alec Halliby got a general manager position, but it wasn't
- 2:15Speaker 2: to be. But I want to read a statement from
- 2:21Speaker 2: Alec Halby that the Eagles put on their social media
- 2:24Speaker 2: to put a button on it, and it says, I
- 2:27Speaker 2: am deeply grateful to the Eagles organization, especially Jeffrey and Howie,
- 2:30Speaker 2: forgive me a chance to work in the game. I
- 2:32Speaker 2: love Jeffrey Stewardship has created a first class organization. Howie
- 2:38Speaker 2: has been a mentor to me from day one, for
- 2:40Speaker 2: which I am greatly appreciative. It has been a rare
- 2:43Speaker 2: privilege to contribute to building a CHA championship teams for
- 2:47Speaker 2: the city of Philadelphia. The experience has been enriched by
- 2:51Speaker 2: a set of special relationships with front office, colleagues, coaches,
- 2:54Speaker 2: and players. Football has been a core part of my
- 2:57Speaker 2: life for as long as I can remember.
- 2:59Speaker 1: That won't change.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Nevertheless, after seventeen years in Philadelphia, I've decided to step
- 3:04Speaker 2: away to start a new professional chapter.
- 3:06Speaker 1: It has been a wonderful journey. And then he.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Writes go Birds. So that was Alec Halliby and his
- 3:15Speaker 2: statement there. So the Eagles also lost.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Who I believe to be a really key piece to
- 3:24Speaker 1: their scouting department. And after four seasons on staff with the.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Eagles, Ben Agelana is seeking new opportunities in scouting. This
- 3:33Speaker 2: coming from Neil Stratton at Inside the League on X,
- 3:36Speaker 2: a former NFL offensive lineman Colts, Jets, Jaguars. He was
- 3:41Speaker 2: drafted by the Colts in the second round I believe
- 3:44Speaker 2: out of Villanova. But it says Ben rome the Northeast
- 3:48Speaker 2: for Philadelphia for three seasons.
- 3:51Speaker 1: He has also he also has prior.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Experience, prior scouting experience with the Patriots. And I can
- 3:58Speaker 2: tell you this in my travels over the last few years,
- 4:03Speaker 2: whenever I'm going through the pro day circuits, the local
- 4:07Speaker 2: pro day circuits, and I would actually add Maryland to that.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Because I've seen him there as well.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Ben Agelana is a constant presence and his passion for
- 4:16Speaker 2: his job is very evident watching him work. He's led
- 4:20Speaker 2: different testing drills like the vertical jump I remember distinctly.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I think it was last year at Maryland.
- 4:28Speaker 2: He was conducting that in a crowded room, and the
- 4:32Speaker 2: same applies to Rutgers that year, I think it was
- 4:36Speaker 2: twenty twenty five. I've seen him even lead position drills
- 4:40Speaker 2: on occasion. This is someone who's very engaging. When he's
- 4:46Speaker 2: out there and he's working with prospects and he's interacting,
- 4:49Speaker 2: you can clearly see that there is this drive and
- 4:54Speaker 2: energy and passion that he brings.
- 4:56Speaker 1: And I've sort of noticed that a couple years.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Ago, and to me, I sort of followed along with
- 5:04Speaker 2: his career and I've crossed paths with him many times,
- 5:07Speaker 2: as I mentioned with my pro day circuit traveling, and
- 5:11Speaker 2: I always made note of Ben's here, Ben's here, and
- 5:15Speaker 2: I think at maybe the Rutgers Pro Day, I do
- 5:18Speaker 2: remember him being pretty involved with the overall event. So
- 5:24Speaker 2: we'll see what's ahead for him. I think he has
- 5:26Speaker 2: a very bright future.
- 5:27Speaker 1: And these are.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Names that probably a lot on the outside aren't going
- 5:32Speaker 2: to be familiar with, but they are very critical and
- 5:35Speaker 2: have been very critical. I should say to the Eagles
- 5:38Speaker 2: success and they deserve that recognition. And I wish nothing
- 5:44Speaker 2: but the best for Ben azelana hard worker, dedicated to
- 5:48Speaker 2: his craft, and I.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Have a lot of respect for that.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Moving forward to the day Day three prospects, and I
- 5:56Speaker 2: wanted to focus on that today because typically they're the
- 6:00Speaker 2: prospects that get the least amount of coverage. We'll have
- 6:04Speaker 2: plenty to talk about when it comes to mackay Lem
- 6:07Speaker 2: and Eli Stowers, even Mark el Bell, who the Eagles
- 6:10Speaker 2: drafted at sixty eighth overall, as he continues his he
- 6:15Speaker 2: begins his development, but the Day three guys aren't likely
- 6:19Speaker 2: to get as much notoriety, and I kind of wanted
- 6:22Speaker 2: to while it was fresh on my mind talk about
- 6:24Speaker 2: some of these players. Michael Morris, the guard from Georgia,
- 6:30Speaker 2: tantalizing athleticism, You like the imposing frame. To me, it
- 6:35Speaker 2: struck me as a Jeff Stoutlind type of offensive lineman
- 6:38Speaker 2: in terms of skill set, the power and sort of
- 6:43Speaker 2: the you know, it sort of fit the profile of
- 6:46Speaker 2: players that he's worked with and developed in years past.
- 6:50Speaker 2: But Michael Morris has gone against premier talent at Georgia,
- 6:54Speaker 2: needless to say, and that included Jalen Carter and Jordan
- 6:57Speaker 2: Davis when he was a freshman, which can help shape
- 7:02Speaker 2: your game and give you that confidence that you can
- 7:04Speaker 2: build on moving forward. But he liked the left guard
- 7:09Speaker 2: and right guard experience. He played five games at right
- 7:12Speaker 2: guard in twenty twenty four, sorry, the whole season last
- 7:16Speaker 2: year at left guard for Georgia. He tested well six five,
- 7:22Speaker 2: three hundred and thirty four pounds. I believe at Pro
- 7:25Speaker 2: Day he was measured in at you know, you know,
- 7:28Speaker 2: six' five and some, change but weighed in at about
- 7:31Speaker 2: three point. Fifty but this is a strong player with good.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Measurables he's light on his, feet and those are players
- 7:40Speaker 2: that you take a chance, on certainly from premiere programs
- 7:43Speaker 2: such As, georgia AND i think his and this.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Is way OR.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Oi they haven't even logged a practice, yet but it's
- 7:51Speaker 2: not hard to Envision Micah morris having a relatively clear
- 7:56Speaker 2: path to the roster because The, eagles for, one don't
- 7:59Speaker 2: have a prototypical reserve. Guard they have players who can
- 8:06Speaker 2: do it in a. Pinch like maybe A Drew, kendall
- 8:09Speaker 2: but he's really a. Center Jake, majors he's a Center Willie.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Lampkin perhaps he's undersized as it, is and he hasn't had.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Well he was with The rams last summer and he
- 8:20Speaker 2: got center opportunities in the, preseason but he's missed all last.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Season SO i.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Don't know if you're gonna be so is inclined to
- 8:29Speaker 2: cross train or at least depend on a player who
- 8:32Speaker 2: hasn't really played that. Position And Fred johnson has played
- 8:35Speaker 2: some guard earlier in his. Career he's a much better.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Tackle you could maybe Ask Cam williams Or Miles hinton
- 8:42Speaker 2: to cross train. INSIDE i Think Cameron williams has a
- 8:45Speaker 2: better shot than Maybe Miles hinton. Does And i'm saying
- 8:49Speaker 2: that months ahead of training. CAMP i understand, that BUT
- 8:52Speaker 2: i was really intrigued with What Cameron williams was able
- 8:55Speaker 2: to do and an opportunity that season finale WHERE i
- 8:59Speaker 2: THINK i sort of had him highlighted as a player
- 9:02Speaker 2: THAT i thought was going to be interesting one way
- 9:05Speaker 2: or the, other and he checked off some boxes there
- 9:07Speaker 2: in his FIRST nfl, action so much so THAT i
- 9:10Speaker 2: believe that can be built, Upon and he's also a
- 9:13Speaker 2: player that if he was in the draft this, year
- 9:15Speaker 2: he goes a lot earlier in all likelihood than where
- 9:17Speaker 2: he went last.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Year so there's. Upside and now he has.
- 9:21Speaker 2: A year of being in the, building a year of
- 9:24Speaker 2: working With Jeff. Stalin now it'll Be Chris, cooper and
- 9:27Speaker 2: SO i think that he carries a lot of interest moving.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Forward but as you can, see there's no clear cut
- 9:34Speaker 2: answer when it comes to backup.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Guard Would i'd expect that to change between now in training?
- 9:38Speaker 2: Camp, CERTAINLY i would imagine that you could stand to
- 9:41Speaker 2: add a veteran guard for depth, purposes because let's not
- 9:46Speaker 2: Forget Landon dickerson was awfully banged up last season and.
- 9:52Speaker 1: There's No Brett toth here. Anymore Brett toth was sort
- 9:55Speaker 1: of the.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Go to, option whether it be back up center of
- 10:00Speaker 2: guard last, season and he's In San, Francisco so there
- 10:03Speaker 2: is a need there for a backup, guard and SO
- 10:07Speaker 2: i think that you could look to see The eagles
- 10:10Speaker 2: maybe add someone there between now and. Then there's a
- 10:13Speaker 2: lot of, time, obviously but from a roster construction, standpoint
- 10:17Speaker 2: it would make a lot of. Sense but all things being,
- 10:19Speaker 2: EQUAL i Like Michael morris's chances of being able to
- 10:25Speaker 2: break through and make The eagles fifty. Three and of
- 10:27Speaker 2: COURSE i say that purely based on the, numbers based
- 10:31Speaker 2: off of the knowing that he was a draft.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Pick but he's going to have to go out there and.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Perform cole Was, newski the safety out Of Texas, tech
- 10:40Speaker 2: is an interesting prospect and if you haven't had a chance,
- 10:43Speaker 2: yet go ahead and read the story On inside The
- 10:45Speaker 2: birds dot. COM i spoke To Texas tech's co defensive
- 10:49Speaker 2: coordinator and safety's, Coach Rob, green provided a ton of
- 10:53Speaker 2: insight Into cole Was, newski and one thing that kept
- 10:58Speaker 2: coming up was his high level football intelligence and communication
- 11:03Speaker 2: ability and.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Instincts this is a.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Player who would lead player led, meetings whether it would
- 11:11Speaker 2: be the safety, room the Safety stars, room and sometimes
- 11:14Speaker 2: even in the summer he would lead the entire you,
- 11:18Speaker 2: know all of the five back end. Players he would
- 11:21Speaker 2: they would run, through you, know in the, summertime it
- 11:23Speaker 2: would be individuals and they would review some. Things but
- 11:27Speaker 2: this is someone who is a very sharp football. PLAYER
- 11:32Speaker 2: i think he should be able to acclimate fairly quickly
- 11:36Speaker 2: to THE nfl based off of What i've gathered because
- 11:40Speaker 2: of the FOOTBALL iq and it's the toughest and competitiveness
- 11:44Speaker 2: that sometimes sets prospects, apart and The eagles really value those.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Qualities and WHEN i Asked rob about, that he.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Mentioned as an, example that there was a nasty stomach
- 11:57Speaker 2: virus that was going through The Texas tech football team
- 12:02Speaker 2: leading up to their college game day matchup WITH byu
- 12:07Speaker 2: in Early, november And cole had practiced all, week but
- 12:11Speaker 2: it was Between thursday night And friday morning where the
- 12:14Speaker 2: bug hit. Him and at That friday walkthrough he didn't
- 12:19Speaker 2: take any. Reps he was standing behind his position group
- 12:22Speaker 2: and for a little bit there it looked like he
- 12:24Speaker 2: wasn't going to be able to.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Go feels a.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Little bit better in the, morning gets AN iv and
- 12:29Speaker 2: it's going to give it a. Go And rob mentioned
- 12:32Speaker 2: that when he asked, him how you, Feeling cole's answer,
- 12:36Speaker 2: was it doesn't.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Matter he goes out. There and this is the way
- 12:39Speaker 1: That rob described.
- 12:40Speaker 2: That he, SAID i thought that he had his best
- 12:42Speaker 2: game of the, season had ten tackles and missed, all
- 12:46Speaker 2: played an all but one snap in that. Game so
- 12:49Speaker 2: that really underscores his toughness and competitive. Nature And i'm
- 12:55Speaker 2: sure that that was not lost on The, eagles and
- 12:58Speaker 2: then you couple that with the football, lack the unique
- 13:01Speaker 2: size for the position at six' three two NINETEEN and
- 13:05Speaker 2: i think his roster prospects are pretty interesting because there's names,
- 13:10Speaker 2: at safety but there's not a lot of numbers or.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Certainty THERE would i expect that to change between now in,
- 13:16Speaker 2: training camp much. Like guard probably there's still some work
- 13:21Speaker 2: to do at, THAT position i, would imagine But colet
- 13:23Speaker 2: wsnowski should thrive as a, special TEAMER and i think
- 13:27Speaker 2: a lot of it will be predicated on his ability
- 13:29Speaker 2: to contribute in the, third phase almost as much as
- 13:32Speaker 2: it will be to be consistent day to day in
- 13:35Speaker 2: training camp at his position. Of trade but this isn't
- 13:39Speaker 2: someone who's a. Raw prospect he was a. Former linebacker
- 13:42Speaker 2: he's a. Secure tackler he plays with physicality and when
- 13:46Speaker 2: he's coming downhill around the line. Of scrimmage AND when
- 13:48Speaker 2: I asked rob about his coverage ability and how that
- 13:52Speaker 2: might translate to the, next level he he mentioned that
- 13:56Speaker 2: he has more fluidity than he's really given credit for
- 14:00Speaker 2: and then goes on to detail a certain PLAY that
- 14:03Speaker 2: i guess highlights the movement ability and processing and being
- 14:10Speaker 2: able to be reactive. In coverage so interesting PLAYER and
- 14:15Speaker 2: i can't wait to see what he's able to do in.
- 14:17Speaker 2: TRAINING camp i just get the sense that he's going
- 14:19Speaker 2: to have some.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Highlight plays then you GET. TO. U, r BERNARD.
- 14:23Speaker 2: AND. U r bernard the international pathway Player from nigeria
- 14:29Speaker 2: Is and i've said this a few, days AGO but
- 14:32Speaker 2: i think he's one of my favorite draft picks For
- 14:34Speaker 2: the eagles from just, a storyline but also what he.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Could Become and i've often Lauded the eagles for their.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Player development you can go on and on down, the
- 14:44Speaker 2: list but they have an exceptional track record when it
- 14:48Speaker 2: comes to. Developing talent and you look no Further Than.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Jordan mylotta that's a. Special case they're not all going
- 14:57Speaker 2: to be able to elevate to. That level but knowing
- 15:01Speaker 2: that he's coming into the build to a building that
- 15:03Speaker 2: has that kind, of infrastructure with a support staff that
- 15:06Speaker 2: they're going to rally, around him he's already going to
- 15:09Speaker 2: be set up, for success which gives him a better
- 15:12Speaker 2: opportunity to sort of develop as and BECOME an. Nfl
- 15:19Speaker 2: player it's going to take. Some time you gotta be patient.
- 15:22Speaker 2: With This the eagles, know That but i'm more so
- 15:25Speaker 2: saying that in terms of the outside you got to
- 15:28Speaker 2: you gotta understand that that's going to be. A process
- 15:32Speaker 2: and it took some Time For jordan mailatta to factor into,
- 15:36Speaker 2: the mix but that athleticism.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Is, Rare hey philly fans game day is. Stressful, enough,
- 15:43Speaker 3: parking traffic, Long lines we've all. Been there but when
- 15:47Speaker 3: it comes to, Your Cannabis camden apothecary makes. It easy
- 15:51Speaker 3: this is the dispensary for, sports fans just minutes Outside,

- 16:39Speaker 2: And up and now you're bringing him into a building
- 16:41Speaker 2: and he's going to be working with defensive Line Coach,
- 16:44Speaker 2: clint HURT who i happen to believe is among the
- 16:46Speaker 2: best IN the nfl at, his job and that is
- 16:51Speaker 2: going to be just fascinating to watch him putting on
- 16:54Speaker 2: the pads for the, first time combating an offensive guard
- 16:57Speaker 2: for the. First time sometimes power is able to win
- 17:01Speaker 2: out and you work on refining the technical aspects. Of
- 17:03Speaker 2: it but then there's other times where whether it Was
- 17:07Speaker 2: Lake in Vakalahi Or Luca, felix fulwallo where you can
- 17:12Speaker 2: see that it's going to take a little bit of
- 17:14Speaker 2: time for everything to start to. Come together for some,
- 17:18Speaker 2: it does for some. It doesn't But Oo? ARE bernard
- 17:21Speaker 2: i remember When.
- 17:22Speaker 1: The eagles traded out of that pick out of one.
- 17:25Speaker 2: NINETY seven i MENTIONED on x that with one of
- 17:29Speaker 2: those picks would be really interesting if they Took Who?
- 17:31Speaker 2: ARE bernard i just think That the eagles are probably
- 17:34Speaker 2: the best team that he could have landed with that
- 17:37Speaker 2: are going to optimize the time that he's here and
- 17:42Speaker 2: work with them and do everything that they can to
- 17:46Speaker 2: get him to a. Certain level and rookie camp will is,
- 17:53Speaker 2: coming up so we'll get our first look at a
- 17:57Speaker 2: lot of. These players but that's certainly one that that
- 17:59Speaker 2: you're i't want to keep an eye on. AND highlight
- 18:01Speaker 2: i will certainly be keeping tabs on his progress in the.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Coming months and then You Have Keyshawn, james nuby who
- 18:11Speaker 2: doesn't get talked about. A lot he Went To, new
- 18:12Speaker 2: mexico he Was the eagles. Final pick Began At, montana
- 18:15Speaker 2: tech Goes to idaho and then winds Up At. New
- 18:18Speaker 2: mexico was a productive college player, six two two, forty
- 18:22Speaker 2: four run a four. Five three you look for production at,
- 18:25Speaker 2: that level he's certainly done that sort of an unknown
- 18:29Speaker 2: entity because you know he went to, you know a
- 18:34Speaker 2: couple of smaller schools and then he burst onto the
- 18:38Speaker 2: scene a little bit With At. New mexico but you
- 18:40Speaker 2: look at the athletic traits he certainly has that maybe
- 18:44Speaker 2: doesn't have, the length but if he's able to really
- 18:48Speaker 2: showcase some special, teams chops he's gonna have an opportunity
- 18:53Speaker 2: to make. The, roster again you don't want to get
- 18:55Speaker 2: too far ahead there's a lot of steps that need
- 18:59Speaker 2: to be taken before you even get to. That point
- 19:01Speaker 2: but just zooming out for a minute and looking at
- 19:03Speaker 2: the big picture and this this roster as it's.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Shaping up it's not a.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Stretch to say that there is a path for him
- 19:10Speaker 2: to make, the roster but a lot of things have
- 19:13Speaker 2: to go Right For Keyshawn, james newby but an. INTERESTING
- 19:17Speaker 2: prospect i Think the eagles on paper had a really
- 19:21Speaker 2: strong draft and it's strengthened on the backs of the,
- 19:26Speaker 2: you know in ADDITION to i should say the Trades
- 19:29Speaker 2: For jonathan Grenard And dantavian WICKS as, i mentioned those
- 19:33Speaker 2: should be included when you look back on the twenty
- 19:35Speaker 2: twenty six. Draft class that's it. For now that's gonna
- 19:38Speaker 2: do it for this episode Of The. Czecho Deily I'm.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Andrew decheco we'll catch you all on the.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Next one
